its been over 2 years since i read volume 9 of chainsaw man and it still apparently has the power to make me sob uncontrollably when i think about it so im going to talk a bit about aki and denji being shown as children during the snowball fight and why it's currently making me wanna rip my hair out :)

aki is already gone during this scene for all intents and purposes, having very little comprehension of the events his body is in and just waiting to be set free. his mind reverting back to the moment he lost his family is not surprising, since that's when his life permanently changed trajectory.

he's not to blame for being stuck in this moment, as it would make sense for any kid his age. however, he didn't put himself on the path towards revenge, which inevitably made him unable to let go. that was makima. she took him by the hand and gave him this "purpose", something she very well knew he was never going to achieve anyway. she trapped him in this predicament and made sure he stayed there till there were no options left for him.

to the very end, aki's life was never his own, but planned for him. aki never left that snowy forest. he wasn't allowed to.

as a result, the essence of aki that remained within the gun fiend after his death materialized as the last genuine version of aki that ever was. a kid playing in front of his house.

moving over to denji, who is the one that got me crying today. his appearance as a child in aki's mind is partly to parallel the bond they shared and the bond between aki and his little brother, whom he lost that day. of course. however i think there's a lot of significance to this choice for denji's character as well.

denji grew up remote and very disconnected from society. he never got the chance to learn how to navigate his feelings and relationships with other people. he had to figure it all out as he went, first with pochita, whom he got attached to and later with aki and power. even with makima.

makima was the first person to ever give him attention and affection, to give him the things he always wanted, but she never treated him like a person. she never helped him get any closer to learning how to be one. he was used, much like aki was, and was given a purpose that was never going to be for his own benefit.

as a result, denji took a while to go through the motions of being surrounded by humans and being taught by them. the first time we saw him face the concept of loss was with pochita, an event that didn't really give him much in terms of experience considering all the implications and how suddenly it changed his life. in its nature, it wasn't a type of loss he would've been able to navigate as a human.

im not going to go into the situation with his father since we saw very explicitly how incapable he was to handle it to the point of blocking it out and having it haunt him till the end of part one. he surely didn't get much data out of that experience either, or the abuse he went through before it.

the first real time he got to see loss occur very close to him was himeno's death. he had no emotional reaction to it, which confused him since he was able to observe its effect on aki and other people around him. he questioned his own humanity for the first time and it upset him, if only momentarily. it gave him a hint of perspective.

sadly, he was going to find out what loss meant the hard way.

with makima still treating him like an animal and the circumstances forcing him to still rely on his instincts, denji's emotional maturity wasn't really prioritized. he did inevitably grow closer to aki and power, without necessarily being able to recognize those feelings for what they were. again he just had to go through the motions.

fast forward to the gun devil arc. he's told by makima on the phone to not think, to just fight aki without thinking about it. we see the progress that's been made in how clearly unable denji is to follow that order, aki being the closest thing to family he's ever had by this point.

he fights his best friend, not even thinking about himself, but of how aki would feel if he were conscious of how much destruction he was causing. still up to this point, denji doesn't know that he loves aki. it hasn't computed to him as a piece of info, only as an experience.

him being shown as a child in the snow, a contrast to the violent reality that his body is in, has as much significance as it does for aki.

denji never really grew up, he never got past his father's death or anything that happened to him before and after that. he was kept from it by his life and makima herself, once again. his ineptitude was weaponized and he was nowhere near being aware of it. he was also stuck.

in that scene, denji experiences real loss. he loses someone he loves and someone who loves him back. someone who thought himself unable to do so but was the first to love him like a human.

he was just a kid, losing his family by his own hand again, only this time he had been loved.

it's highlighted in the next chapter, where he appears unable to grieve and looks kind of numb instead. then we have the ice cream scene, where he thinks the words for the first time and throws up immediately.

his confusion after it happens, him being unable to fathom why his body would have such a reaction, breaks my heart almost more than the entirety of the snowball fight itself, from denji's pov.

im not going to talk about what happens directly after that and its implications bc im gonna end up talking forever, but his behavior throughout the next chapters very much shows how out of his depth he is when it comes to loss and grief and how lost and helpless he is in makima's hands.

my point is, both aki and denji were used, weaponised and kept from growing up while also having to deal with the world and its cruelty at the same time. even the closeness they achieved was planned and used against them both. this is only one of many angles of the snowball fight scene that can be looked at and interpreted in different ways. but it was the one that made me ugly cry today :)

I've been loving your ror fam x mha!reader works lately and I just remembered that war arc going on in the manga??? aren't the battles LIVESTREAMED??? ?

How would they react to watching their baby fight for their life back in their original world?? as well as watching other kids nearly die alongside them??? I know for sure Adam would be SEETHING cuz those are literally 15-16 year olds being tossed to the frontlines. Even the gods would be pissed cuz having CHILDREN fight is just too cruel even for them 😭

-Valhalla could only stare in horror, everyone watching, seeing the battle in Japan, where their beloved Y/N came from, seeing the destruction, seeing all of the students fighting against the villains.

-You had been granted your life back, to assist with the fight, to help your friends, who had been stunned to see you come back, but only for this fight, once the battle ended or if you were killed, you would be returned back to Valhalla, but you wouldn’t be able to go back to your world a second time.

-You couldn’t say anything about how you were back to your friends, even though you wanted to so badly, but at least this time, you would get to say goodbye to them.

-Adam was seething, radiating heat, seeing all of these children, your fellow classmates, fighting alongside you, fighting for their lives, many getting injured, some seriously. He felt so hot, so angry, that he almost felt nauseous.

-Zeus and Odin both were staring, glaring at the screen, their own dark aura surrounding them, which would have intimidated the others, if they weren’t all just as angry.

-How could the adults of your world force children to fight, putting their own lives on the line, even though they were gods and some of the greatest warriors of all time, they couldn’t stand to watch children fighting.

-Eve called out your name as you caught Tokoyami who was thrown back by All for One, “I gotcha Yomi-kun!” your woolly hair puffed up, wrapping you both up in your safe cotton as you slammed down into the ground.

-Eve sighed in relief, seeing you both unharmed as you stood, Tokoyami sending you a nod, “Thanks Aries-chan. Now- you wanna tell me how you’re back from the dead?”

-You just grinned brightly, “I can’t tell you everything, but let’s just say I’m a one-time zombie!” his eyes turned into sparkles before you ran back into the fight.

-Hades rolled his eyes at your words, but you didn’t tell your friend the truth, just giving him a basic idea.

-You used your hair to grab All for One, just for a moment, to hold him for Hawks to attack, but you yelped when All for One grabbed your wool and yanked hard, swinging you up into the air, leaving you to be a sitting duck in the air and he charged for you.

-You smirked at him, shocking him as you heard people shout out your name as you tilted your head back slightly. You caught his head, grabbing his cheeks between your hands, “Jizo’s Embrace!!” and you headbutted him hard, stunning him and sending him down hard.

-Raiden gawked, pointing at the screen like a child, beaming brightly, “Go Y/N! Headbutt him again!!”

-It was two hours later, the battle was over, you were panting softly, holding your broken arm, a grin on your face as your classmates, your friends all approached you all.

-You grinned brightly at him, feeling yourself slipping away and they could only stare as you seemed to slowly be fading away, “I didn’t get the chance last time. Bye everyone!”

-Many of your friends were crying, calling you by your name rather than your hero name, but seeing you smiling at them made them all smile back as you disappeared.

-Back in Valhalla, you immediately had been plowed down by Eve, sobbing as she clutched you tightly and the others were quick to approach, some welcoming you back, others praising your skills, while only a few, Brunnhilde and Adam, tried to get you unburied from the hugs, as you were seriously injured again and needed medical attention…again.

-You thanked them all for giving you the chance to help your friends, to save Japan, and to say goodbye to them all. You could rest easily now, knowing your dimension was safe.

I'm Gonna be honest, I think Eclipse was a much more compelling and interesting Villian before he got the star the second time.

His idea of a better universe while placing himself.on top was such a unique idea. He generally thought his way was right even though that act would have ended the lives of billons. The fact that he saw this as the right thing was very interesting and made him a good villian.

He also was just much more of a threat to Sun and Moon, tricking them, psychologically tormenting them, actually pushing their boundaries and made sure he was an active threat in their lives.

Eclipse was just fun to watch at the beginning and al the way up till he finally got the star. And then they ruined him in my eyes.

Suddenly, we have a sob story that really didn't make me feel sympathetic for.him at all due to all the harm he did. I liked it when he said he was just angry with Moon and wanted to reset the world because he saw it as too broken. He really did absolutely nothing leading up to his second death, he wasn't a threat and just kept mopping around. He became very boring to watch and that quickly lost my interest. He was more like a whiny kid than the cool and interesting villian he used to be.

When he returned, I was getting my hopes up because he seemed a lot more menacing... well at first! Then he was quickly captured and made pathetic really. So my hopes.of him returning back to form was kinda squished.

I hope they do fox this but I know people love their redemption arcs. Even when characters are better off without one. Or when character don't actually deserve it.

In reference to a previous ask you replied to, I'm so glad to find somebody else who thinks Garp is a shitty awful parent. He was so awful to Luffy but I keep seeing people going "oh he was such a good guardian".

I hate that trope in anime where you have a parent who tries to train their kid to be strong, but instead of doing it in any even slightly good way, they just beat and try to murder their kid and then the anime tries to pull the stupid "and the near constant death made me stronger, and that's why I love him." It's like NO, that man abused you and you need help.

(this is why Tekken is so good. Heihachi does the same to Kasuya, but instead of Kasuya loving his dad for dropping him off a cliff, Kasuya almost dies, makes a deal with a devil, spends the entire series waging literal war against Heihachi and trying to kill him)

You know who was a good guardian who actually properly and lovingly trained their child to be stronger? Kyros. The way Soldier-san cared for a trained Rebecca is the absolute peak of the parent-training-their-child trope because he actually did care for Rebecca and trained her to fight but made it clear that he wouldn't hold back in fighting because her opponents wouldn't either. (I'm also not done with Dressrosa yet, but im getting there).

Yeah. I have..... Some issues with Garp. Not as a character because I do love the way he's written and I think he's extremely complex (and also enjoy his scenes because, look, he's hilarious and his bond with Koby and Helmeppo makes me sob). He's just a shitty guardian. And hey, that doesn't mean he doesn't love his kids, but, uh, yeah. Love doesn't always fix everything. You can't "raise" a kid however you want and excuse it with love. Garp isn't a bad, horrible person for the mistakes he made, but he is not a good parent. He should've known better. I think he's facing the consequences of his actions right now in the manga and he did suffer most of them already after Marineford, so I usually don't talk that much about him. The man is tired. Not justifying what he did, but you know, at least he is aware of his mistakes and he is not actively being a horrible person.

The trope you mention bothers me so so much. I have no idea about Tekken but, you know, I get it. I hate when the writing ends up justifying that behavior when it comes to parenting.

Kyros my beloved, btw. I absolutely love him. He did so so good with Rebecca... I hope you enjoy the rest of the arc!!! The pacing is really meh but the amount of Doffy and Law we get (and a very specific Usopp scene that is one of my favorites from the whole show) and the awesome backstories make it worth it. Friendly reminder that right after Dressrosa comes Zou and then Whole Cake Island. And I say this because WCI is my favorite arc and if I don't mention this every time I have the chance I die.

I'm like. 85% sure that person was me afasdfafsd. I know I've mentioned it before somewhere!

Because it's like, MK feels extremely abandoned and hurt by Wukong during s2. MK's line of "Fine! Then just leave! At least my friends will never abandon me!" in 2x01 Sleep Bug is VERY telling, and it also makes me sob when put together with 3x10 The Samadhi Fire:

MK: "NO! Mei is my best friend—I'd never abandon her when she needs me! We're heroes! It's what we do!"

And 4x02 New Adventures:

MK: “You don’t know! We’d risk it for sure! I won’t abandon them when they need us.”

MK's own low self-worth combined with Wukong's tendency to leave in the worst way possible, which was only further exacerbated by the Lady Bone Demon's manipulation.

And I think MK's experiences and feelings throughout s2 made him resolve to never make his friends feel abandoned.

But of course, since this is Lego Monkie Kid, it's more interesting than just that—because MK leaves at the end of s4. It was out of fear, sure, but so was Wukong leaving in s2 and at the end of s3. MK does exactly what he set out not to do, making the same mistakes his mentor has, literally going to isolate himself on Flower Fruit Mountain for an undetermined amount of time.

It's things like this that make the question of "Who is MK" so intriguing, because that's who MK want's to be. He want's to be himself. But who is that person?

Is MK just like Wukong? Is he a harbinger of chaos? Is he just a noodle delivery boy? Is he Monkie Kid? What if you remove all those labels? What's left? What is he?

(Plus the whole "I just want to be me—to be MK!" "Yeah well...we all know where that leads." interaction between MK and the curse in 4x07)

And now that we've thrown MK's mysterious past and ominous future into the mix, we are in for a FULL on identity crisis spiral next season.

And well, when it comes down to it, MK was willing and ready to fight Wukong in s2. The lmk writers are fantastic at paying off several arcs all at the same time (see all of 3x10, which literally had the culmination of Mei's, MK's, Wukong's, and Macaque's arcs all in one. It's fucking phenomenal), and this is partly due to the time constraints of the show as a whole, but it's also just damn good writing. MK's past, his identity, the hurt he's experienced across every season—that's all going to come to a head. I also imagine it's going to happen right along side Mei, Wukong, and Macaque's arcs once again, because that's just how this show do. It do insane shit.

I also happen to be a believer in "Samadhi Fire Part 3", in which we get another 3x10 and 4x08 parallel to round it all up, and I am waiting, WAITING, for Mei to repeat MK's words back at him:

“Mei! You have to stop. I know you’re upset, and that’s okay! I know what it’s like to have a power you don’t know how to control—to feel like the fate of the world is in your hands and you have no idea what to do! But you always have my back, and help me through it. We, will figure this out! Together!” (3x10 The Samadhi Fire)

So technically I listened to Demi read this in the discord, but who's counting. This is such a cute and fun fic in the absolute best way. The pigeons! The undead plotting rats! Baz's resignation to being the Disney princess with his undead animals 😂 Demi, hearing you read this was my first time reading (or listening) to this fic, and it was INCREDIBLE.

Fic that made me cry: you never quite say (but i hear) by @that-was-anticlimactic.

Yeah, this fic made me sob. It reminded me so much of my best friend, who also has ADHD and a loud voice and loves talking about their special interests. I adore them so much and love listening to them talk, even if I don't really get DND. I remember immediately sending them this fic after reading it. This is such a special fic. I absolutely adore it, and Zuko is the best boyfriend.

Honorary mention to He's Cruel But You Don't Have to Be by notanotherfanficwriter. Definitely made me cry. Soren's character arc, especially in Finnegrin's Wake, is incredibly cathartic.

Midoriya Should've Stayed Quirkless.

So i haven't been active in the MHA fandom for quite some time, but nostalgia brought me back to it. And along my nostalgia-fueled binge I've noticed a lot more stuff narrative wise that i kinda wanted to talk about.

That being, of course, that Midoriya (i'll be calling him Deku since it's easier) should NEVER have gotten a quirk.

The narrative theme that MHA pushes (or wants to push i should say), is that "anyone can be a hero" which would be fine and dandy if Deku's entire existence didn't destroy that. What do I mean? I'll tell you.

Literally the very first thing we find out about the world is that quirks are given to 80% of the population, and that little 20% group of "quirkless" people are pretty much shat on in every way, as demonstrated by Bakugou and the entirety of Deku's flashbacks. He's seen as a failure and a wannabe, his mother breaks down sobbing after they get news of his lack of quirk, and he's in utter shambles as well. Despite being able to get into UA on grades alone, it's believed he'll never make it far, and that he simply doesn't have the means to do so. Sound familiar? It should if you're disabled.

Deku is disabled in an allegorical sense, and he honestly doesn't make a bad allegory. It can be interpreted as either physical disability, or neurodivergency due to the broadness of what "quirklessness" entails, along with his overall personality. Things seem to be looking up in this sense, and it would pretty intriguing to see how this kid with no powers makes it by in a school with superpowered kids. Or it would, I should say.

The entire allegory along with the theme completely falls in on itself because Deku, after receiving a speech about how "anyone can be a hero! Even quirkless kids like you!" Immediately becomes allegorically abled a couple scenes later. The entire message becomes completely void after this, as Deku loses pretty much what made his character interesting to begin with.

"But if he did stay quirkless, how would the story even progress?!" I hear you ask, and i can answer that.

See, I am of the opinion that the story would’ve been ten times more interesting had Deku never gotten a quirk. I mean- c’mon. We have Batman don’t we? Sure, we have plenty of characters with downright useless quirks that have made it into UA, so why wouldn’t Deku be the same?

Simple! Just have Deku be the first to join the hero class. A quirkless kid getting by on nothing but his brains and downright insane attunement with his surroundings? And maybe some gadgets from his buddies over at the gear classes? That sounds awesome as fuck! Not to mention nearly all of his relationships with the characters become way more interesting.

Bakugou instead of being threatened by his fantastic new power, instead is witnessing the kid who he bullied for years on end completely dominate any competition thrown his way, and grow his skills at an incredible rate. Not only does he feel threatened, but he’s being proven wrong. Quirkless kids can be heroes. And they can be better than him. Now who doesn’t love a good bully getting their just desserts? And in what is arguably far more satisfying and empowering than just, “Wow Deku has better powers than me”. It also makes his sports arc moment with Todoroki feel far more satisfying as well.

“It’s your power not his” feels strangely more impactful when you realize Deku had to get his “power” from the ground up. He used what he had to get by, despite everyone saying he was nothing. It’s not Bakugou’s, it’s not his parents, and it’s not Allmight’s, it’s his.

Speaking of Allmight, where would he even fit in all this nonsense? Well, who said he had to give Deku a quirk to be his mentor? It was already pre-established that Allmight was thinking of giving Mirio his quirk. If we could have Allmight have already given his quirk to Mirio, it would not only give us a foreshadow of his character, but also give Allmight a reason for Deku to not have his quirk. Allmight used to be quirkless himself, so seeing a little boy in a similar position to himself when he was younger, and wanting to give that kid the chance to prosper for who he is? Not only is that super sweet, but honestly makes Allmight look like a better person.

There were so many ways in which the story could continue as we see it with the omission of Deku’s quirk. And I’m my eyes, a far more satisfying and empowering story that keeps its narrative.

ZIMPAI STORY PART 6: A CONFESSION OF OBSESSION 🥺👉👈

“LIEEESSS!” The alien desperately screeched out loud on the top of his lungs (or whatever aliens had). Dib raised an eyebrow in confusion, distracting him from the overwhelming sadness he was trying to hide. “I…uhhh- didn’t say anything…?”

Zimpai blinked and tried to regain his composure. He slowly took a step back and tried to escape. Dib-chan tilted his head, and his hair bone scythe hair cowlick thingy turned into a light bulb as a thought struck him. “C-could it be…”

Just as the big headed boy opened his mouth to let out his undeniably kawaii anime voice, Zim-kun began to run and covered his nonexistent ears.

“Z-Zimpai has…a…a…”

Dib-Chan’s delicate pretty voice suddenly became deep and sounded like he was a macho and buff man. “CRUSHY WUSHY LUSHY USHY BLUSHY CRUSHY ON MEEEE!11!1!1!1!11”

The yell was so loud and ear piercing that the whole ground collapsed while everything around Dib got pushed away by 999999999 kilometers.

This was so powerful that even Gaz became flabberGAZted by this and was more concerned than ever. “TAK- WHY THE ACTUAL HELL DID YOU MAKE THE ANIME BEAM DO THIS???”

Tak, despite her messy hair and being literally yeeted away by an incredibly long distance from a pathetic lover boy, was still smiling smugly and just shrugged. “I had the most tragic villain story from the most stupid defective Irken of destruction demolishing a vending machine. His stupid lover obviously has to be as insane as he is.”

Back with our main character idiots here, Dibby boi realised what he has done and sobbed, “Z-Zimpai my pookie…! I didn’t mean to hurt you like thisss…!!” (he obviously did lolll)

From 999 something kilometers whatever that number I typed earlier (oh wait I can copy and paste but oh well) away, the green space cockroach creechur growled, “GRGRGRRR YOUUU…!! YOUUUU!! WHEN YOU YOUUU!11!1!1 YOUUU MADE ME MAAADDD GRGRGRGRHDIEJDEKJ” (bro this space boi couldn’t hear dib a shmillion times even when he was 1 inch away from him but now he can-)

Instead of apologizing again, Dib got mad at Zim too because it would be too out of character if the boys didn’t fight each other here as it was still an ENEMIES to lovers arc after all.

Deeb Doob Dob Dib’s voice became all buff again as he himself became buff too, electricity surging all around him. He then ascended from the ground, T-posing and let the mysterious anime power carry him towards the alien.

The alien boi zimmediately tried to become as buff as Dibby boi did by casually grabbing a machine that was 69 420 times his size in his PAK and blasted himself with it, causing his scrawny-looking green arms to develop more and more muscles and become as buff as Dib was.

The boys just stared each other down, eyes glowing while T-posing in front of each other.

Dib-chan then broke the silence that lasted for 10 hours by saying in a small and cute voice while still in that buff state

“…Z-zim-kun I… I… l-love y-you…”

Zim then reverted back to his cutesy smol chibi shape and responded with a little “B-baka!!” even when Dib didn’t finish the sentence.

Surprised by that, the big headed boy also reverted back into his original pathetic form and giggled, “I love you….your mom!” He laughed even more and smirked. Zim was taken aback and felt his heart— whatever aliens had shatter into smithereens. Was this really how Dib felt…? Was it all just a silly little game…?

Before Zim could take get out his PAK legs to absolutely destroy and obliterate the human, Dib laughed once more and threw that one love letter to Zim, smacking his face and not the back of his bald head this time.

“Nahhh! Just kidding, and uh- happy birthday, I guess…” Dib looked away quickly as the butterflies returned in his stomach. Dang it— he forgot how cute his crush looked despite how stupid he was…

“Ehhh- birthday?? Invaders don’t NEED pathetic Urth birthdays!”

“Yeah, yeah— but today is still special, y’know? It’s the day you set your little alien foot on this planet!”

Zim tried not to smile at his beloved nemesis remembering AND writing some letter to him for this day. But then…

“WAIT! How did you know it’s today?? We met at the disgusting skool one or two days after I landed on this filthy planet!!”

Dib smiled and responded, “I’m a paranormal investigator! Of COURSE I know the exact day an alien comes here!”

“You were a creepy stalker from the start, Dib-thing… even before becoming those… yhaaan-deers…”

“You’re creepy too, y’know!! And you were so weird too! In fact- everything was so weird earlier… nothing new, I guess!” Dib chuckled.

Zim coughed and shifted his eyes away from Dib, yet getting closer beside him. “…Yeah. Very…strange…”

Dib-ch- I mean DIB noticed this and leaned closer and closer to Zim and….

Ok ok trying to get my thoughts in order. Even still, this is going to be all over the place.

Tup coming up with the idea of using the Umbara sarlacc monster to trap Krell was so damn clever.

The moment Dogma broke and realised he’d been betrayed just absolutely broke my heart. He thought he was doing the right thing the entire time. He was trying to do the right thing. He was trying to be good. Omg good soldiers follow orders nooooo now is not the time for that thought. 

Do we know what happens to Dogma? Please tell me we find out what happens to him.

Jesse’s shoulders are so broad. That shot of him from the back in his upper blacks in the brig was just, omg, sir why are you so broad?

WHY THE FUCK DID THEY PUT A MEDIC IN A FIRING SQUAD?! WHAT WAS KIX DOING THERE?! WHY?! WHAT KIND OF MESSED UP NONSENSE IS THIS?!

Also, they put Tup in the firing squad as well?! It seems like Tup and Dogma are close so I’m assuming their close or best friends or maybe batch mates but WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!

I got the distinct impression that Jesse was much less impressed with what was happening than Fives, who seemed like he’d accepted his fate, until…

THAT ABSOLUTELY BADASS SPEECH! FIVES! You have all of my heart. All of it.

I kept mentally screaming “Where is Cody?!” during the scene where the 501st and 212th attacked each other until I realised that Waxer was in charge so of course Cody and Obi Wan aren’t there.

The whole scene where the clones attacked each other was just utterly heartbreaking. Emotionally destroyed. I was clutching my face and shaking and making pained noises and tearing up for pretty much all of this episode but that scene. Ugh. Omg. I do not have the words. I am completely devastated. The way Rex fell to his knees. The looks on all the clones faces. How the 212th clone Rex was holding fell to the ground. *sobs*

Waxer had a sticker of Numa on his bucket *WAILS*

And the tear right before he dies?! *SOBS*

I know it’s an “animated kids tv show” but it really made no sense that there were all these injured and dying clones and there’s no blood. Especially when Waxer was coughing and wheezing. That’s the point you’d expect him to be coughing up blood but there’s nothing. Also, Rex’s face when he asked Waxer who gave the order them to attack. It was so gentle and caring and sad.

Speaking of sad, the end where they’re all question what this is all for. They’re so right. So much pointless death and killing. 

Rex when he went down to execute Krell. Omg, you poor, poor man. So many emotions. He was struggling with so much. I know this is his line of “On your knees” comes from, and twice. And it was definitely a badass moment and I’m sure in time with further watching it’ll become one of those moments where if Rex said that to me in that voice I’d impale my knees through the floor immediately but at the moment I can’t separate it from the situation and what was happening. He was shaking.

I’m going to have to watch through these episodes again and do more of a live-blog style reaction to everything as I watch it, similar to 1x5 ‘Rookies’, 2x10 ‘The Deserter’, and the recent Wolffe episode, because I know I’m missing so much. But I also wanted to get this immediate first emotional reaction out first becomes omg ALL THE EMOTIONS

Of course the evil baddie starts monologuing. You could see his eyes turn yellow.

Ah, so this is the episode where the badass shot of Rex putting on his bucket while marching with a bunch of the 501st comes from. 

How did Fives, an ARC Trooper, not notice Dogma, who was in binders, had taken his blaster? And why did they take Dogma out of the brig in the first place? I may be reading into this way too much but I think mayhaps Fives (and Rex?) knew what they were doing? Maybe? Even I’m not sure reading that back. But Fives doesn’t dual wield like Rex, we’ve seen him very clearly use a DC-15 blaster rifle many times in battle. Though Wookieepedia says Fives “began using twin DC-17s like his friend Rex, though he continued [to] use the DC-15A from time to time.” and cited episode 4x8 ‘The General’ as the source for that quote. I think I’m just overthinking this now. Also, sobbing at that quote from Wookieepedia where Rex is referred to as his friend rather than Captain.

Waxer had tally marks on his armour too. Has Rex started a trend?

Who was the clone who reported to Rex at the end of the episode that Umbara had been taken? Was that Appo? He seemed very “generic standard clone”, with no different paint or tattoos or hair.

I’ve noticed that unless they’re specific characters, the rest of the clones (background clones? extras?) seem to be all the same. Which makes sense from an animation perspective, you’d just copy and paste (heh) the same model and save time by not having to customise every single one. Though I wish we could see some of that individuality in all of them, rather than just the main and supporting ones.

A lot of the lighting, especially of the clones' faces, is very stark, almost horror movie-esque. Like when you put a torch under your chin and tell spooky stories. 

Ok I’ve sort of run out of steam and fallen in an emotional heap now so I think that’s it for this and I’ll have to come back to everything in the re-watch. 

I’m going to go and curl up in a ball in the corner and cry or something now. Or I’m just going to watch it all over again.

Neteyam - Leo

Eldest son, blue theme (like I could say this for all the Sullys, but shush), can do no wrong except when one of the siblings stubs a toe and then the Guilt, daddy's favorite solider who's also a huge dork (like we don't see a lot of evidence of this in canon for Neteyam but let me have this), Neteyam's Untimely End vs Leo getting treated as such a punching bag by each TMNT iteration that throwing him through a goddamn window is an established franchise staple by now.

Kiri - Donnie

A case can be made for April-Kiri parallels (particularly for psychic powers re 2012 April, my beloved, and dead mom syndrome) and also Karai-Kiri (for dead mom syndrome, how often I've mixed up their fucking names while writing), but Kiri-Donnie fits the siblings theme, so there. They're tech nerd-nature nerd solidarity, autistic Entities of unparalleled death and destruction, happy to destroy government property, younger siblings pretending to be above the Chaos while very much not, and in desperate need of a nap and a stiff drink.

Lo'ak - Raph

Rage issues. Daddy issues. Big brother issues. Relatively smol and Keenly aware of that fact. Adored by the (smart) fans, cursed by Eywa/God. Makes strong bonds with animal fwends and also collects traumatic experiences like magnets collect nails. 100% either in a fistfight or sobbing into his pillow rn. In a family living at the bottom of a fucking sewer and/or on the run from the government, still manages to feel like an odd one out. Someone needs to introduce Lo'ak to emo music, it would fuck him up so much /pos.

Tuk - Mikey

Youngest and most excitable sibling, heart of gold and jaws of steel. Optimism that remains in the face of innocence slowly being shaved away by Events. Hates being left out or left behind, committed to various Schemes and Plans with historically mixed outcomes. Has definitely either killed a man or will do so as soon as the opportunity presents itself.

Spider - Karai and April

Spider's kind of an unholy amalgamation of April's Token Human We've Shared Traumatic Experiences With journey and Karai's At Odds With Creepy Undead Father Figure And Complex Relationship With Less Creepy Father Figure (see below) arcs. Basically part of my ongoing psyops plans to Feminize That Boy (don't worry Karai-Kiri and April-Kiri parallels, I still love you). Also, Leorai/Apritello and Speteyam/Spiri (mix and match at will) have exciting interspecies and/or vaguely incestous vibes we should all strive for in our weird fanfics.

Jake - Splinter/Hamato Yoshi

Tired dads trying their best and just so happening to raise The Kids as soldiers-warriors along the way. Exciting and confusing relationships with the concept of this thing you call "death." Shameless species hoppers, even though Jake did it on purpose while TMNT writers in various iterations have to come up with increasingly more convoluted ways for it to happen to Yoshi against his will. Is not afraid of violence, especially when it comes to their homoerotically homicidal relationship with

Quaritch - Shredder

Big Bad of the story, or at least the one everybody pays attention to. The Bitch Who Refuses To Die. Unhealthy, possessive, genuinely quite creepy (/pos) obsession with sort-of-kid who ended up in his care through Unfortunate Means. Will destroy everything he remotely cares about and sit in the ashes with surprised Pichaku face before finding someone to blame. Refuses to let go of a fucking grudge, be it with aforementioned homoerotic-homicide buddy or various children.

Neytiri

Technically the best Neytiri parallel in terms of family relationships would be Tang Shen, Splinter's wife and the pseudo/actual (depending on the iteration) mother of his children. However, Tang Shen has an unfortunate history of being Dead Girled and Ghost-Momed in a way that puts her more in common with Grace or Tom Sully (rip). Still, Neytiri has a lot in common with the vengeful demon ghost version of Tang Shen that exists primarily in my head.

BONUS

Payakan - Casey Jones

Outcast from society, defender of the weak, wanted by the authorities. Combines genuinely passionate belief in justice/revenge with an equally genuine talent for wanton violence and destruction. Has an interspecies bromance with Lo'ak/Raph that puts Achilles and Patrocles to shame. Someone definitely needs to introduce Payakan to emo music, too, not to mention death metal--he'd start a band to put those Little Mermaid fuckers to shame.

They would all be so fucking devastated. The family would get really rough for a while as everyone processes their loss differently. Diane may try to comfort everyone while sobbing. Sixtus at least would be very pissed at King, I think, and I doubt King would do anything to try defending himself because he'd be very pissed at himself too. He could even change his mind about revenge being a bad thing for one day before being told to pull himself together by someone else. He'll feel awful even if Myrtel is saved and stays with them...

If Myrtel had an illness this whole time on top of being gradually poisoned by the Fairy Realm, I'm sure it would have been cured in some way by now. His parents would try using the Drug of Yore or call Elizabeth for her healing power, then they'd realize his asthma can only be treated with mullein pills as long as he's there. It's even possible that his asthma is permanent as soon as it starts or King and Diane didn't realize the Fairy Realm isn't safe for humans until it started. If Myrtel has/had an illness on top of all of this, I can't guess what it might be.

Writing this out made me realize another possibility for what might happen at the end of this arc. I haven't thought it all through yet...but since Guinevere's vision and Ban recently visiting Liones happened, King and Diane might leave with Nasiens to Liones once this current battle is over. They could trust their kids to protect the Fairy Realm in that moment of urgency, especially if Kilbeggan does get the Drug of Yore. That would be a big deal.

So I’m working a summer camp/summer school this year, and while my kids are working on their summer packets, I have time to read! It’s been fun, because I’m reading a book a day, which is something i haven’t done in years.

I’m catching up on the “A Twisted Tale” series, so I thought I’d do a ranking of the books I’ve read so far! I’ve just ordered “Go the Distance” and “When You Wish Upon a Star”, so I’ll have the full collection by the end of the week, which is VERY exciting!

So here are the books I’ve read + my ranking/reviews (spoiler-free)(also all of these reviews are my own opinion, so if you like one that i said i wasn’t a fan of, PLEASE remember it’s my opinion):

“As Old As Time”: 10/10 - y’all can’t be surprised that this is my favorite in the series. It was the first one I read, and when i tell you the last section of the book had me sobbing on the train, everything about the story was so wonderfully written, and Adam’s entire character arc just made me fall in love with him more. And just… Belle was perfection. Gaston continues to be one of the most terrifying Disney villains, and Adam and Belle continue to be my absolute favorite Disney Prince/Princess couple.

“Almost There”: 10/10 - ok so I JUST read this one yesterday (because i just bought it lmao) and it was one of the best books I’ve ever read! I loved getting a look at Faclier’s past, and how he came to know his “friends”. Tiana’s entire struggle throughout the story, of the decision she was going between, it was honestly heartbreaking. Also the way Charlotte and Tiana’s friendship was discussed, and the moment at the department store, this whole book was fantastic.

“Reflection”: 10/10 - MULAN AND SHANG MY BELOVEDS!! Seriously, their relationship progressing from begrudging allies, to friends, to having feelings for each other??? I really loved how the entire struggle of Shang finding out that Mulan is a woman, not because of her gender, but because he found out that she lied, and it fit so well with their budding friendship.

“So This Is Love”: 9/10 - listen i love love love a good Cinderella retelling. I honestly have to think that this book took some kind of inspiration from “A Twist in Time”, because it just felt like there were moments in the book that reflected the movie! And given how “A Twist in Time” is honestly one of my favorite Disney movies, it makes sense that I love this book. Charles and Cinderella are so sweet together, and the fact that they establish that Cinderella was at the ball just to have fun and to dance and not to find a prince!!! I loved it so much.

“What Once Was Mine” 8/10 - okay so this was REALLY good, and the little lore insert with the Moon Flower made me SO excited to have references to the TV show. Arianna was a fantastic character, especially since we know so little about her just from the movie itself, and I love the entire underlying theme of mothers and daughters and how their relationships can be so different.

“Conceal, Don’t Feel” 7/10 - I’ll be honest and say this was my least favorite. Frozen was never my favorite Disney movie, but I did like the idea of Anna and Elsa coming together despite being separated after everything happened. The plot was a little forgettable compared to the other installments of the series that I’ve read so far, but I can see how, if you love Frozen, you’ll absolutely adore this book!!

The light I used to know

Pairing: Kid x Killer x G/N Reader

Summary: When Kid and Killer finally return to the ship after being imprisoned in Udon, the reader realizes their wounds are deeper than they appear.

"Fuck!" You yell slamming your fist against the table. With warm tears running like rivers down your cheeks you drop to the floor, sitting against the wall and surrounding your legs with your arms while you sob uncontrollably.

The pain in your chest burns more than ever, and your body aches from exhaustion, but you force yourself to keep going, to keep fighting. You have to find a way to rescue your captain and his first mate... to save the two people you love the most in the whole world.

A part of you died the day Kid and Killer were captured, and it was replaced by anger and the wish for revenge; together with alcohol, they were your only fuel now.

You don't remember the last time you ate a proper meal or had a full night's sleep... or even the last time you smiled. It hurts to keep going without them, as it is hard to ignore the little voice in the back of your mind telling you they're probably dead now, that you've lost everything that really mattered in your life.

If it wasn't for your crew and for the promise you made to Kid to take care of them, you'd already have sailed to fight Kaidou by yourself, even if it meant your death. If it wasn't for them, you would already be lost, mad, or dead.

The night turns to day and you don't even notice it until you hear a powerful knock on the door. Confused, you blink quickly, trying to come back to reality.

"Y/N!!!" One of your mates yells from the other side with a voice full of concern, but also... happiness?

"Are you alright!?" He asks as he knocks harder, menacing to break the door down. "They are back!" He adds and you hear his voice crack. "They're back," he repeats as he begins to sob.

In a matter of seconds, you open the door. The bright sunlight blinds you for a moment and you cover your eyes while you walk guided by your friend. You hear the hurried steps of the crew gathering around their captain. Why aren't they cheering?

Soon your eyes adjust to the light and you open them to meet Kid's sorrowful gaze; Killer rests motionless in his arms. Your eyes go wide with an expression of horror, and your heart drops to the floor followed by your blood pressure.

"He's only sleeping," Kid says with a hoarse tone before letting out a tired sigh, and you feel the life slowly coming back to you.

"Come with me," You manage to say without bursting into tears in front of everyone, and you thank the seas for that.

As soon as you enter your shared room, Kid places Killer carefully on the bed, letting out an afflicted sigh when he notices the bottles laying around and the overall mess. You shrug tiredly at his inquiring eyes. There will be time to talk about that later. One step at a time.

"Please, take care of him first," Kid requests, sitting at the end of the bed. There's pain and guilt in his orange eyes when he looks at his partner; you've never seen him so emotionally drained and it shatters your heart to pieces. What did they do to you, my love? You think to yourself while cursing Kaidou for whatever suffering he caused them.

Carefully, you start removing the bandages around Killer's head, relieved to see no blood stains on them. After placing a gentle kiss on his forehead, you start removing his clothes, slowly revealing a considerable amount of bruises covering his skin. Taking a deep breath to make the lump in your throat disappear, you begin examining his body for any fractures or cuts.

This is not the first time you see them both badly injured after a fight, but it is different now: they were betrayed by their comrades, incarcerated by an Emperor, and most certainly tortured. It's not their physical wounds that worry you the most.

After a while, Killer begins to open his eyes when you use an alcohol-soaked cotton ball to clean the last of his wounds. You welcome him with a sweet smile and a soft pat on his chest.

"I'm almost done, baby," you reassure him and he bursts out laughing, instantly sitting up. You throw Kid a confused look, and the tears pooling in the captain's eyes let you know something is wrong.

"They made him eat a defective SMILE fruit..." Kid speaks after a moment. His voice is broken, and his fist is clutched. He looks exhausted; you know him too well to know the only thing keeping him going is rage.

"And now he..." Kid tries to continue, but his voice finally succumbs under the weight of his anguish; he quickly covers his face with his hand.

Tears begin to blurry your vision and you throw your arms around Killer, letting him rest his head on the crook of your neck as he tries to control his laugh. Your t-shirt is slowly getting soaked with his tears. 

"It's okay, my love," you whisper in his ear before kissing his head. Your fingers stroke Killer's blond hair and his laugh begins to fade. He won't be able to show any emotions now, will he? You think, looking into Kid's eyes as if he could listen to your thoughts.

Your captain remains quiet. His face is darkened with anger, and his body shakes with contained rage. But deep down you know he's also afraid; your journey hasn't been easy, but you've never been reminded of the true dangers of the life you chose as you are being right now. Dying is easy, but losing the ones you love is more painful than any torture.

"Come here," you say reaching out to your captain.

Kid surrounds both of you with his arms and you cannot fight back your tears anymore. Despite the pain and uncertainty, having them back by your side lifts a heavy weight from your chest, and you feel whole again.

Minutes go by, and the three of you remain still, holding each other tightly as if your life depended on it. Kid kisses your temple and you turn to gently kiss his lips, tasting the saltiness of his tears on them.

"Let's go to sleep," Kid says after a while; his voice is barely louder than a whisper.

"But, what about you...?" You try to protest, but Kid is already taking off his clothes to join Killer in bed.

At least he doesn't look like he's badly hurt. You think, quickly inspecting his body with your eyes while getting rid of your clothes as well.

Finally, you take place between them and Kid pulls both of you closer, burying his head in your hair. Killer lets out a heartfelt sigh, falling asleep a few seconds later.

There, blissfully surrounded by each other's warmth, life finally recovers its meaning. Healing these wounds won't be easy or quick, but nothing is impossible as long as you are together.

"I promise I'll keep you safe." Kid whispers before exhaustion take over and he is finally able to sleep again.

Where CANON and FANON collide!

I haven’t posted a Seven Several Sentences Sunday in weeks but I have posted several Buddie fanfics since the hiatus began.

The sentences below are from a new fic I started writing today and I’m super excited about it.  This will be my FANON speculation journey for Buck and Eddie and The Buckley-Diaz Family in season 7. After 6x18 aired, I mentioned in a blog post that I will not post any CANON blogs that include speculations for the upcoming season but in that same post I indicated that I would include season 7 speculation in my fanfics.  Hence the reason for this new fic that I’m currently writing.

Please note: By the end of season 6, there were a lot of CANON “implications” about Eddie dating again that didn’t make any narrative sense along with Buck’s 1,001 storylines that weren’t concluded and it made everything about the completion of their arcs feel rushed and discombobulated.  There were too many unanswered questions with regards to Buck and Eddie, Eddie and Chris, Buck and Chris and The Buckley-Diaz Family for me to ignore.  Therefore, I’m writing this multi-chapter fic as a creative way to expound on the implications I found within their unfinished storylines because it’ll help me make sense of whatever the Frick Frack the showrunner(s) epically failed at with their sloppy execution at attempting to close their arcs at the end of 6x18 “Pay it Forward”.  Both the characters of Buck and Eddie and the actors OS and RG DESERVE BETTER than a season 4 redux of one-dimensional love interests and unimaginative storylines so my plan for this fic is to give them the Happy Ending they deserve and the one a lot of the audience hopes to still see.

I’m writing this fic to unravel the unnecessary ridiculousness of the things that were included in 6x14 – 6x18 for Buck, Eddie and Chris.  It’s therapeutic and I can’t wait to keep working on it.

“Eddie?”  Buck whispers.

Even though he’d prefer to rush this to find out what’s going on, he patiently waits for Buck to continue.

Buck whispers, “Eddie? I thought I could fix it.”

“Fix what Buck?”

Buck shakes his head from side to side like he’s saying no to someone but Eddie doesn’t remove his hands as he continues to hold onto Buck’s face.  

“I thought I could fix everything that I—I… couldn’t fix with Daniel by donating my sperm so they could have a baby.”

Eddie raises his eyebrows since he’s confused because the last thing Buck told the team was that he delivered Connor and Kameron’s baby on the couch Margaret bought for him and Buck took the death doula or whatever with him when he went to buy a new couch. Buck also said the baby was fine and healthy so he needs for Buck to tell him more so he’ll know how to help him.

A gut-wrenching sob escapes Buck’s mouth and he starts shaking. He falls forward and almost hits the pavement but Eddie catches him.

“After the baby was born…”  Buck speaks through heavy and loud sobs.  “I—I thought my parents would finally see me but they… they…”  He inhales a deep sob, then through bated breaths, he cries and admits, “They didn’t tell me about it.”

“Buck?  What didn’t they tell you?”

“That I—I… I can’t have kids!”
