you know when the structure of a piece of media is meant to elicit a specific audience reaction and then that reaction itself becomes a device of the narrative working from the outside to further the story’s themes through the anticipated thoughts & emotions of the audience. god yes

#personal log #media #bc i was thinking abt this earlier with ethel cain’s new album & how the 2nd to last song Feels like an ending song but #after it’s over there’s still #one more song to go; and how that in itself is reflective of the story being told of the character ethel dying but her soul continuing to #live on in heaven as well as her body on earth still being acted upon (cannibalization) & basically like. what you think is the end isn’t #actually the end.#& i just watched the film ‘the loneliest planet’ and the ending was very abrupt & there wasn’t exactly resolution #which mirrors the conflict/reaction to The Incident in the film #and the way that the characters have to grapple with how it shatters what they thought they knew #either about themselves or about the other #& how that shattering might feel impossible; like the end to something and they have no idea how to continue on living life afterwards #but they have to #life goes on; the film doesn’t have a concrete resolution/ending because neither do their emotional journeys #when the credits roll u can feel in your chest how life still stretches out before them & the agonizing reality of having to continue.#bc reality isn’t like a movie where the conflict gets wrapped up all pretty at the end & everything’s fine you know? and like i don’t #believe that’s a pessimistic take i think it’s just the way things are and it can be understood in a pessimistic way but can also be #accepted & embraced as part of life’s beauty #things keep going and it’s a blessing that they do

#i hate hate hate this #i've been putting it off all month all the scenarios in my head are so awkward.#but if i don't find a room until october i'm gonna be in trouble lol #like i specifically didn't specify i can't stay at work til midnight this month so i #i'd have the motivation to look for a place. and now we're here.#if i don't find sth i'll be sleeping at a train station with menele until 5am after my shifts lmao #also uni's starting and i'm in deep shit with my thesis and idek what my options are re: not graduating on time maybe #also my oldest friendship is basically over tho in retrospect it was a long time coming #and i feel like the loneliest person on the planet #like i don't really have friends just acquaintances i don't really see much outside of context of work/uni. and all the other friends #i might have had over the years were mostly *her* friends mostly and i always felt like an add-on like this is so pathetic god
