A Prissy Girl’s Guide to Fall

back by popular demand, i’m here with another prissy girl guide! this post is a bit late for the fall but it’ll allow you to finish the season off in a pretty fashion, and transition to the winter smoothly. i’ll be discussing the look i’ve been adorned in as of late and my fav products i’ll be using for the spirit of fall! 💓

what’s the look this fall?

the look this season is “divalicious barbie.” voluminous hair, tapered square nails and fur details + neutral color palettes. add in a few pops of pink and some sparkly detailz and you got my look this fall. “sexy chic.” i’ve been really leaning into the vibe of a runway supermodel diva emulsion. as you may have seen, my birthday outfit drew from many inspirations, focally the early nineties alaia runway shows. just immense glamour, class and girliness with a healthy dose of sexy.

first and foremost…

the weather is turning so a lot of us are catching colds. take care of your health and rest. protect your immune system and dress according to weather. i almost always get sick around late september/early october and its because of the dip my immune system takes due to the change in climate.

preparation

some of you are in school like me. one of the reasons the fall is my fav season is because it’s time to get back to the basics. you should be developing new study routines around this time or perfecting the ones you have already

new school supplies + stationery. pretty girls deserve to stay stocked up on glitter ink and fuzzy pens

start saving money for the holiday season

get a handle on your halloween look early so not to scramble when the day comes

DERSE ROYALTY AU LINEUP!!!! All the Strilondes are siblings in this AU, and are princes and princesses. Derse and Prospit are warring countries, one of which uses magic to fight (Prospit) and the other relies on vaguely industrial machinery (Derse). Magic is outlawed in Derse. I’ll give more info if wanted!

I tried to strike a balance between extravagance and practicality depending on personalities. Dirk and Rose’s clothing are the most embellished, but while Roxy and Dave’s outifts may seem plain, the dye used to get such vivid colors would probably be horrifically expensive.

Dirk: He is the oldest, and therefore the first in line for the throne. I tried to show how he is trying to keep up put-together appearances, but is still mainly focused on combat-readiness. Notice the visible steel toes on his boots! He would also probably carry his sword around at his hip.

Roxy: Her outfit is one of the most practical for plot reasons (not to be divulged yet). She prioretizes outdoor-preparedness, with a hood for harsher weather. When in the palace, she would probably enjoy wearing much fancier, flouncy attire, like fluttery dresses.

Rose: The most prim and proper, even more than Dirk, and the least practical. She would absolutely love showing off her fashion, and doesn’t need much movement as her work and/or hobbies would likely be academic in nature. I added pearls to her bodice because they make me think of sea creatures!

Dave: He barely wears any embellishment on his clothes, and is usually out on the training grounds with the knights. Hence the sturdy, well-made leathers. He is following Dirk’s combat-driven ways, just with less pressure from outside forces.

Toshiya and Fashion

As someone who studied fashion, I wonder if the "revival" or "renewal" of certain iconic looks over the years is a conscious decision made by Toshiya or just a pattern from his tastes.

Naturally his taste has become more mature, refined and elegant. But some materials have remained something he reaches for constantly and the overall feeling too.

When it comes to accessories hats, gloves and pearls have been a part of his wardrobe and image over the years. In different styles and different formats but they make appearances in the late 90's, in the 2000's and until now.

Ties and chokers too.

In the fabric department, lace and leather make a comeback every now and then. And when you consider that lace has always been more heavily associated with women's fashion, I find it so remarkable, bold and refreshing to see Toshiya wearing it. To me it shows that Toshiya is a man in touch with his emotions and his divine feminine. It requires a certain touch of sensibility to reach for something like lace.

The same with velvet. Who doesn't remember the iconic blue velvet dress from the Studio Coast live?

There is something so royal and regal about the velvet dress. And the jewellery pieces? Chef's kiss. He is bold through and through.

Also keep in mind, this man doesn't mind skirts. When you study fashion and history of costume, you learn that all these things (skirts, lace and velvet were used in men's fashion for centuries.)

Fashion details like ruffles, bows, balloon sleeves and pleats also come around every know and then.

When I think of a lot of Toshiya's wardrobe pieces I get the feeling he must be a big McQueen fan. In fact I have seen him wearing the famous McQueen skull scarf during a photoshoot mid tour and he actually owns the Savage Beauty book.

There is a gothic romance, dark but sensual feeling that radiates from him sometimes.

And then... we have the more masculine tone of his fashion. The suits... my goodness I could ramble about this one none stop. The man has great build and a good suit, makes him look sharp, clean and elegant.

I do wish however that the tailoring around his back neck width, the neck drop, shoulder to shoulder length and height of the collar were made by a good tailor (not that the costume designer in charge of his fits is bad). I have only noticed that the fitting around this area often leaves creasing around his neck.

The same can be said about the fringe blazer. The concept and the visual is unrivalled. But I do have beef with it... the poor construction and sewing on that lapel gives me tailoring nightmares.

Mind you this is all the on-stage, artistic fashion surrounding Toshiya. It has been sharpened over the years so beautifully and I quite admire that about him.
