This star system is made up of three stars. The two in this image are Rigil Kentaurus (α Centauri A) and Toliman (α Centauri B). Proxima Centauri (α Centauri C) is out of view.

The name Rigil Kentaurus is a Latinization of the Arabic name Rijl al-Qinṭūrus, meaning "foot of the centaur."

The name Toliman comes from the Arabic phrase aẓ-Ẓalīmān, meaning "the ostriches."

was looking through the zodiacs' character designs to describe them, and i was wondering, is sagittarius part bear? he's centaur-esque, obviously, but his legs look more like bear paws than horse hooves

That's correct! :) I did this primarily for the sake of variety, and to separate his design a bit more from his companion Centaurus, who is the more traditional horse centaur. This is his current design if you're curious, though I'm going to change the colours on his clothing later.

This does cause some to mistake Rus for Sagittarius when meeting him for the first time, but I like that from a characterization standpoint. Rus looks up to his mentor and wishes to emulate him in a lot of ways, so he usually sees the comparison as a compliment, even if he doesn't always feel like he can live up to it. Admittedly I have gone back and forth on whether or not I should redesign Sagittarius to be more horse-like to keep the themeing to his sign as strong as possible, like I've tried to do with the others. If Centaurus didn't exist as a character I probably would have stuck with that appearance for Sagittarius, but I like his design as it is currently. At least for now, a lot of this is still subject to change! I realize that makes things harder to write when character details keep changing during development, so my apologies for that ^^'

LOL! Now I'm curious on Sagittarius and Centaurus (the centaur)! Knowing the two centaurs with their confused mythologies I wonder what'll they react on each other 🤣🤣

Centaurus - He was basically a regular centaur, nothing particularly special about him. He once entertained Herakles who was passing through the region in search of the Erymanthian boar. But when Pholos (Centaurus) opened his 'wine skin' to serve the hero the other Kentauroi (Centaurs), driven into a mad frenzy by the aroma, attacked. Herakles slew most of them with his arrows and the rest fled south. Pholos himself also suffered a mishap, he was shot in the heart by a stray poison arrow during the fight and died (I altered this part, bec the of the way he died didn't make sense). The gods rewarded him for his show of hospitality by placing him amongst the stars as the constellation Centaurus and his wine cup as the adjacent Crater.

Sagittarius - He is the Centaur Chiron, and was the eldest and wisest of the Kentauroi (Centaurs). His is a lot longer so you can read it here. However, in short, Herakles accidentally shot Chiron with the same poison arrow that killed Pholos in a fight with others.
