Thinking about how some of the Umbrella Academy/ Sparrow's mothers probably just gave them away willingly because they thought their child was a demon or the anti-christ.

You were laying across the backseat of the impala, Jenny laying on top of you. You felt her hot tears hitting your shirt and soaking through to your skin. You were taking her home. There was no need for her to suffer anymore than she already had. She had seen and dealt enough with the demons. Her family had been worried sick since she was reported missing at the school and it was time she went home. It was time she had the chance to recuperate in peace with people she loved and who loved her right back.
“I’m so sorry.” She said against your chest, her voice was small.
“Don’t be sorry. You have been so brave throughout this whole thing. You deserve some rest.” You ran your fingers through her hair and wrapped your arms around her.
“Y/N is right, Jenny. You have done more than enough, you should be with your family now. We’ll get the sons of bitches.” Dean said, looking at the two of you in the rearview mirror. Jenny sniffled and nodded, closing her eyes tight in fear.
“What am I going to tell them?” She asked, sitting up and looking out the window.
“As much of the truth as you want. If you want to make up a complete lie, I will back you up. If you want to tell them everything, I will back you up. Tell them whatever you feel comfortable with.” You found her eyes, sending her a reassuring smile and grabbing her hand. She tried to smile back, but you could still see the worry in her eyes.
Dean pulled up to her house about an hour later, all the lights were on and you could see movement inside. Jenny’s lips parted and all the air in her lungs felt trapped. She closed her eyes and shook her head slightly. The door flung open and her mom ran out onto the driveway. You saw Jenny’s face twist in both pain and relief as she opened the door and ran into her mothers waiting arms. They cried together, holding each other tightly in the cool evening air. You touched your cheek and felt the wetness on your skin, realizing you were crying as well. You got out of the car and walked over to them, touched Jenny on the shoulder. They pulled apart and her mother quickly gathered you in her arms as well.
“Thank you. Thank you so much for bringing my baby home.” She whispered in your ear. Jenny pulled you to her after her mom let you go. You inhaled her scent and let it stay in your lungs for a moment. She pulled back slightly, still holding you in her arms. She looked you deep in the eyes.
“You can do this, Y/N. You go back there and you kick ass. You are so strong, I am so proud of you. You kill those bastards for what they did to me.” Her eyes were filled with tears, her face red and swollen. You nodded, holding back your emotions. She let you go and fell against her mom again, they walked inside holding each other as you climbed back in the car.
“Ready?” Sam asked, turning around to look at you. You paused for a moment and let the question settle inside you. You were ready. Ready to take the fight to them, ready to use whatever strength you had to get the job done. You were ready to end this.
“Ready.” You answered, your voice was even and calm.
 --------------------
Jenny didn’t live far from campus, you pulled in about an hour and a half later. The three of you went into your apartment to make a plan and for a place to crash. You moved everything off the dining room table so the boys could lay out maps of campus, books bobby gave you, and a journal. Sam left to get you guys food, leaving you and Dean alone.
“I don’t think it’s a good idea if you come with us.” Dean didn’t even wait for the door to fully close.
“Sam already gave me the ‘I don’t want you to get hurt’ speech.” You answered, looking up at him.
“That’s exactly why I don’t want you to come, Y/N. I was with him when Jess died. It almost broke him. He had nightmares about her death for months afterward. He couldn’t mention her without almost breaking down, I still see him struggle with it. I also see that he cares for you deeply and I can’t watch him get hurt again, not like that. Especially because it’s this demon.” Dean had come around the table and took your shoulders in his hands. Looking directly into your eyes.
“Dean, I can’t imagine what you and Sam have gone through because of this demon. Your mom and then Sam’s girlfriend, it’s horrible and I am so sorry. I have to do this, Dean, I have to fight them for Jenny. She is like a sister to me, and what they did to her…and that I had to watch it. I want them gone. For good. For Jenny, for Jess, for your mom, and for you two. I completely understand that you don’t want me to get hurt. If I was in your shoes, I would be saying the same thing. I’m going with you. I have to do this.” Now it was your turn to look into Dean’s eyes.
“Well, you’re stubborn. You and Sam have that in common.” Dean laughed, taking his hands off your shoulders. You giggled too, playing with a strand of hair. Sam walked in with food and beer, handing one to his brother and then you. You ate in relative silence, most of the food untouched. Then you made your plan.
“I say, we just give them what they want. Me on a platter.” Sam said, taking a sip of beer.
“No, Sam, that’s just stupid and too risky.” Dean argued back. “Somehow we need to get in there so we can make devils traps in the house.” He leaned back in his chair.
“What if we go first thing in the morning and watch? We know how many of them are in there and they can’t all be missing class.” You suggested, placing your elbows on the table.
“Best idea I have heard all night.” Dean replied, standing and stretching his arms out. “I’m exhausted, night you two.” He then walked away and into Jenny’s room to get some rest, not giving Sam anytime to argue back. Sam let out a long sigh next to you and sunk a little in his chair, defeated.
“I’m gonna shower, why don’t you find something for us to watch.” You stood and ran your fingers through his hair, cupping his jaw with your hand before walking away.
After your shower, you joined Sam on the couch with your beer. He was still flipping through channels, his eyes clearly not seeing the screen. You reached over and placed your hand over his, taking the remote and turning off the TV.
“Wanna talk about it?” You asked, pulling your legs up onto the couch.
“Talk about what?” He asked back. There was a smidge of anger in his voice.
“Whatever is bothering you.” You answered, leaning closer to him.
“This demon. It killed my mom. It killed Jess. Dean and I, we think it killed our dad too. Y/N, if it does anything to you…I don’t think I could handle it. I don’t think I could go on. I have already lost three people and my childhood to this demon. I can’t-I can’t lose anyone else I care about. I really wish you would just stay here tomorrow.” He tried again to tell you how he felt. You could see the unshed tears and raw emotion in his eyes as he spoke. You licked your lips and looked down at the couch, taking a deep breath into your lungs.
“When I was 10 I had a crush on this boy down the street. His name was Riley. He was a year older than me so I thought he was really cool and mature.” You smiled at the memory, Sam smiled with you. “One day, we were playing outside. It was a nice sunny day out. I remember the smell of his moms flower garden. He touched my shoulder, nothing weird, but I saw it. I saw how he died. I watched him get hit by a car while he was on his bike. I saw his bike, the metal mangled and twisted in the road. I felt his last breath leave his lungs. I heard his head hit the pavement so hard it cracked. And do you know what I did?” You looked directly at Sam then, he was hanging on every word you were speaking. He shook his head and waited for the answer. “Nothing. I didn’t do a damn thing. I went home and never spoke of it to anyone. I was petrified. What would happen if I told someone? Would they yell at me? Would I get in trouble? Then, the most amazing thing happened. Nothing. Nothing happened to Riley, he went and lived his life. For two more years. On a warm summers night in the middle of July, fate took him. The crickets were so loud that night, and the moon was full and heavy in the sky. When he was 13 years old he was riding his bike home from a friends, it wasn’t too late but it was already dark out. The car didn’t see him. He died and it was all my fault because I kept this horrible secret to myself. I didn’t tell anyone because I was scared what would happen to me, and Riley died because of it.” You were crying now, the tears rolling down your cheeks.
“Y/N, it wasn’t your fault, you probably couldn’t have stopped it.” Sam leaned towards you, his hand running over yours.
“I felt it as soon as it happened. I was in my room, enjoying my Friday night and my heart stopped. I heard his breath in my ear. He never came to visit me, but I couldn’t get his face out of my mind. On summer nights when I am laying alone in bed, the wind outside will sound like his last breath. When the moon is full and high in the sky, I see the way the moonlight reflected off his bike in the street. When the nights are warm and the crickets are singing their endless song, I can still see his honey brown eyes and his curly black hair. Ever since the day he died I have lived in fear of closing my eyes, for what I might see when I do. I am always afraid of the cold and lonely nights when the air changes and I see my breath against the pitch black of night. Who will come into my room? Who will touch me with their boney, cold and grey skin. Who will whisper in my ear with their rotting breath?” You looked up at him. Your eyes wide. “Then you came. I touched you and I felt warm again, you kissed me and I saw colors again. I have to do this, Sam. I have to fight them, because if I don’t it will haunt me for the rest of my days. I will see those girls every time I close my eyes, just like Riley. I got pulled into this, and I intend to see it through.” You swallowed down your emotions, your throat raw from crying.
“I know what you mean. When I touch you, I feel warm too. I feel excited and calm all at once. When we kissed, I swear I could feel myself being filled from head to toe. I’m not sure what spell is over us, but I don’t want it to ever be broken.” He reached up, running his fingers over your cheek. “We’ll do this together.” He nodded once, looking you in the eye. You smiled and jumped on top of him. Your arms flying around his neck and holding him impossibly close to you. Your legs on either side of his trim waist, heat rolling through you. Your lips molded against his, bring all sorts of feelings up. The way his hands twisted into your hair, pulling ever so slightly. The way he listened to your every breath and sound, following your exact instructions. It was like the two of you were reading each other, never ending chapters written with heartbeats and breaths across skin.
The next morning you were in the impala outside the frat house. It was early. You yawned in the cold and staleness of morning, blinking your eyes. You held the coffee cup in both of your hands, keeping them warm. Movement. All of you turned and looked through whatever windows you could see into. Two boys left the house. They didn’t say a word the entire time, just walking with vacant expressions. About fifteen minuets later three more left, wearing the same vacant expressions. The three of you exchanged looks. Another twenty minuets went by and then two more walked out, one of them being Brandon. After they were out of eyesight you went in, Dean first with you and Sam behind. Sam kept you closely behind him. Sam had his gun raised in front of him. He was in a crouching stance as he silently walked around the house, clearing each room.
“Hold onto my jacket.” He whispered, turning his head slightly. You reached up and grabbed a fistful of his jacket, stepping with him throughout the house. There was no one in the house, you were all alone.
“Well, once again, that was weirdly easy.” Dean said, lowering his gun slightly. Sam nodded in agreement. Even for you, it did seem too easy. The boys lifted rugs, moved beds, and rearranged furniture to paint devils traps on the floor. They stood on chairs and counters to paint them on the ceiling as well. You looked around the house, touching things as you went. Something was bothering you that you couldn’t quite put your finger on. There was a strange buzzing happening inside you, it seemed like it was leading you somewhere. You closed your eyes and opened your mind. Listening to the energy around you. It was pulling you towards the basement. You opened the door and turned the light on. The moldy and stale air hit you in the face instantly. You gingerly walked down the stairs and into the disgusting and grimy basement. Dirt and dust covered every inch. Insects and rodents, dead and alive, were everywhere. You moved through the basement, keeping your arms close to your side. There was a doorway, when you walked through you saw the room from your vision. This is where they hurt Jenny. This is where the yellow eyed demon spoke to you. This is where they would sacrifice you. The buzzing was back and stronger than before. You held up one hand as you walked, letting it guide you. Off to the side was a door. You touched the doorknob and took a sharp inhale.
A girl laid on the table. She was bloody and old looking. Her eyes were wide, but unseeing. She was dead. You saw that she had the same brand on her chest that Jenny had. Brandon lifted her from the table and opened the door. He tossed her body in with the others before he wiped his hands on his jeans, his face a scowl.
You blinked back into the now, your breath coming in ragged. You raced back up the stairs and ran directly into Sam, wrapping your arms around him. He held you against him, his fingers tracing your neck.
“They are in the basement.” You mumbled against his shirt. “All of them, the girls. They are down there.” You felt him lift his chin off the top of your head. You leaned back to look at him, his face was one of worry.
“Sam, take her back to her apartment.” Dean walked over to the two of you.
“Dean, what if they come back?” Sam asked, letting you go.
“I’ve got an arsenal.” Dean replied, flicking his head towards his duffel bag.
“I’ll drop her off and then come right back.” Sam said, walking towards the door. You in tow. You wanted to help, but something told you there was something that needed to be done. Something that you didn’t want or need to see. You and Sam climbed into the impala and headed back to your apartment. It was two o’clock in the afternoon, most of the day spent at the house. You and Sam walked into the apartment, something didn’t feel right. A chill ran through you and you stopped dead in your tracks. You heard the sound of a hard object against a skull. Heard Sam fall to the floor. Then you felt the sharp pain yourself, you fell to the floor. Blackness took you.
You woke with a throbbing and heavy pain in your head. You blinked a few times, your vision blurry. You lifted your head feeling your body screaming at you. You groaned and tried to move your hands, only to realize they were tied behind your back. You panicked and began to wiggle, jolting your arms against the ropes.
“Hello, Y/N.” Your eyes widened and your head shot up towards the voice. Brandon. “I see you brought me a Winchester as well.” He was leaning against the doorframe into your living room.
“I’ll kill you.” Sam spoke, he was tied up too. His back against yours in the middle of your kitchen. There was suddenly banging on the door.
“Sam! Y/N!” Deans voice was panicked as he pounded on the door.
“Can’t let big bro get to you.” Brandon pushed himself off the wall and placed his hands on you and Sam’s shoulders. There was a whooshing sound and then you were in the basement. The filthy and disgusting basement. All the frat boys were standing around the table in the basement. Their bodies were covered in bruises and their eyes were a deep onyx. There was another man there that you didn’t recognize. He was older than the others and you didn’t understand why he was there in the basement. He had a large smile on his face that looked ghastly against the darkness of the situation. He turned his head slightly and you caught a glimpse of his eyes, a pale and spotted yellow. He looked directly at you. Directly into your eyes.
“Hello, Y/N, I have waited so so long.” His voice was grossly cheery in the dank basement.

-Kanda’s P.O.V; 4 Years Ago-
“Kanda!!!!” I looked around for the source of his voice.
Once I spotted him a grin spread across my face as I knelt down to his level. He jumped right into my waiting arms, hugging me tightly around the neck while I hugged him just as tight. I groaned playfully as I stood up, looking over his shoulder at the woman approaching us with a small smile on her face. I returned the smile, leaning down so she could give me a kiss on the cheek.
“How’ve you been, Ma?” I asked, trying to help Shoyo climb onto my shoulders.
She gave me a weary smile, a frown making its way onto my face at the sight of it. As soon as I got a good look at her I could tell how tired she was.
“I’m fine, sweetie...just a little tired is all.” She said, hooking her arm with mine as she pulled me into step with her as she began walking.
I felt Shoyo place his hands atop my head as I held onto one of his legs with my free hand to make sure he doesn’t fall, “Are you taking your medicine?”
She averted my gaze, her eyes looking out ahead of her, “We don’t have the money for that right now. Besides, Sho is about to start school soon and I want to buy him everything he-”
“Your medicine is more important than anything!” I shouted, cutting her off, “What are you doing with the money I’ve been giving you? I give you more than enough to buy your meds and buy Sho whatever he needs.”
She said nothing, her legs stopping as she just stared at the ground. I stood next to her, setting Shoyo down and watched him run to the playground a few feet away. My eyes followed after him for a moment before looking back at my mother.
“I work hard so you and my little brother can live comfortably. I give you more than half of what I make and what? You’re telling me you’re skipping out on buying your meds so you can buy Shoyo school supplies. Do you know how stupid that sounds? I’m not buying that bullshit, not anymore. I’ve kept my mouth shut for years but your condition has gotten worse over the years because that sick excuse of a man you keep at home.”
“He’s your father-”
“I don’t give a damn what he is! That man has never been a father to me, for all I care, he's just a sperm donor! All he does is drink his days away and do this!” I yelled, reaching out to grab her hand, pulling up the sleeve of the arm she had been trying to hide from me this whole time, her bruises coming into view, “I left to try and give you and Sho what you deserve, not to give that drunkard more money to feed his addiction! The only reason I’ve haven’t knocked his teeth in is because you’ve begged me time and time again not to but there’s only so much I can take! I swear the moment I find any of these bruises on Shoyo’s body I’ll kill that bastard myself. When the hell are you finally going to leave him??”
She looked away once more, pulling her arm away from me, “I can’t just leave him Kanda. You’re father...he needs me.”
“Sho needs his mother. When are you finally going to see that the relationship you have with that man is toxic? When you turn up dead? When Shoyo is left without his mother? When ma?” I asked, exasperated.
For as long as I could remember that man had been beating my mother over the simplest of things. He picked up drinking when I was five and since then his anger issues had gone from bad to worse. Back then it was just my mom and I but then she had Shoyo five years ago, a year before I left home. I had even considered staying to try and protect the two of them but I couldn't stand another second in that house. If I had stayed there I would've surely killed the bastard the next chance I got.
"Kanda I'm handling it. Y-Your father he's going to change I...I know he is I just gotta give him some time." She mumbled.
I sighed out in frustration, poking at the inside of my cheek with my tongue, "Ma-"
"Kanda come play with me!" Shoyo called out from the top of the slide.
I looked over at him for a quick second before looking back over at my mother, "This conversation isn't over."
…….
-Present Time-
To think that'd be the last conversation I would have with my mother. I looked down at the locket she had given me when I first moved out of that house, opening it to see a picture of her and Sho smiling widely. I felt a sad smile tug at my lips at the sight of the picture. I can’t believe it’s been four years since my mother was taken from this world and my baby brother was kidnapped. I had been assured his safety but I hadn’t been able to see him in person yet. They would send me pictures and videos of him to assure me that he was alive and I got to speak to him on the phone every week but I...I was still on edge.
“Kanda they’re here.”
Alex’s voice brought me out of my thoughts. I jumped off the windowsill and made my way over to where they were waiting. I walked into the living room expecting only the two that I had known about, but what I saw had my heart stop. I could feel my legs grow weak at the sight of him, unshed tears clouding my vision.
“Sho…” I whispered under my breath, catching the attention of the boy who was now nine years old.
He went to take a step towards me, looking as if he was going to run into my arms like he used to when he was younger but the man that was with him put a hand on his shoulder. I looked up into his eyes, glaring so fiercely that if looks could kill he’d be dead ten times over. He smirked, a glimmer in his eye before he let his hand fall back to his side, letting go of Shoyo. Once his hand was off Shoyo ran for it, crashing into my arms. I held him tight, noticing how much taller he had gotten, he had grown at least half a foot, maybe even more. At five the top of his head reached up to my hips and now at nine he was able to bury his face in my stomach, the top of his head reaching my bottom rib.
“I wanna go home, Kanda.” Shoyo whined, tears in his eyes.
"I know Sho and I want to bring you home but just wait a little longer, okay?"
He frowned, bowing his head in disappointment, muttering under his breath, "I miss mom…"
Those words tugged at my heart strings. Shoyo needed his mother more than anything and to know that I couldn't do anything to bring her back angered and saddened me. I know that what happened was out of my control and if I had been there I wouldn't have been able to do much. My family had been targeted because of what I do to earn money, the ones who killed my mother and kidnapped my brother were the ones who forced me to betray the only one I've ever loved and the people who were like family to me, it was either them or Shoyo.
"I'm sure she misses you too, little man." The blonde man said with a knowing smirk.
I grit my teeth, stepping in front of Shoyo, "You have no place in this conversation, you bastard."
He simply smirked, the woman next to him placing a hand on his shoulder, "We didn't come here to provoke him, Kei."
"C'mon Kiri I'm just trying to have a little bit of fun.” He teased, the smirk on his face growing into a grin, “Why don’t you tell the kiddo to go play in the other room while we have a nice chat, huh?”
I glared at him, clenching my hands into fists at my sides, “Sul take Sho to the back room, I’ll call for you when we’re done.”
I kept my eyes glued to Kei as Sul made her way over to us. I was forced to tear my gaze away from Kei when I felt Shoyo tug at my shirt. I looked down at him to see the frown that he had on his face had deepened. I furrowed my brow and knelt down to be eye level with him but just looking into his eyes I knew what the problem was. I sighed out softly, placing my hand atop his head and ruffling his hair in an affectionate way.
“It’s okay, Sho, it’ll only be for a little while.”
He looked down for a moment before nodding, turning to Sul without a word and let her lead him out of the room. Once they were gone I addressed the two ‘guests’, my gaze hard as I glared at them.
“What is it you wanted to discuss? I’ve been doing what you’ve asked-”
“And we’re happy you’ve been cooperating but there’s a job we need you to do,” Kiri interrupted me, pulling out a picture from her pocket and turned it so I could see it, “He’s an old friend of yours isn’t he?”
My face paled at the sight of the man in the picture but I masked the emotions that had managed to peek through, “What do you want with him?”
“The boss has some unfinished business with him but I’m sure you know as well as the rest of us that it’s just an excuse on her part. She wants him on her side. We know he has no family he cares deeply for that we can use as leverage so we need you to convince him to join us.” Kei explained, taking a seat on the couch, “She’s noticed how close he’s gotten to Y/N and as you know very well our boss isn’t fond of that bitch so hurting her in the process is a nice bonus. I have a feeling it’ll hurt more than when you betrayed her.”
I set my jaw at his words, the fire in my eyes intensifying, “Why not just kill her instead of taking the long way?” I asked, thinking back to when I asked San to get rid of her, going behind their backs to do so.
“It’s more fun to see her suffer...don’t you think? Being dead on the inside hurts so much more than actually dying. Dying is too quick and permanent but knowing that those you trust more than anything in the world betrayed you without some much as a second thought, that kills your very soul and that--that is a pain that lingers a lifetime.”
“What if he refuses?” I asked, ignoring his words.
He smirked, a devilish look in his eyes, “Then threaten to kill her...that should get through to him, right? We’ve got information that tells us he’s grown...very fond of her. I’m sure that if you tell him her life is on the line he’ll be like putty in your hands.”
“Use any means necessary just make sure he stays alive. If you do this she’s agreed to let your brother see you in person more often. I think she said three or four times a week.” Kiri spoke up, drawing my attention to her.
I felt my heart lurch in my chest, a lump forming in my throat at their offer. They’re doing it again, using my brother to get me to do their bidding...and like so many times before...it’s working. San...I’m sorry but you’re going to have to switch sides whether you like it or not.
-San’s P.O.V-
I felt a chill go down the length of my spine, a bad feeling coming with it.
“What’s wrong?” She asked, brows furrowed as she reached out to place her hand on my arm.
I turned to her, shaking my head, “Nothing...I just had the chills for a moment. Wait, don’t change the subject. We were talking about you. Isn’t it too early for you to be moving around?”
“San...I’ve been on bed rest for three weeks. If I have to sit around and do nothing for another day I swear I’ll go crazy.” She argued in exasperation.
I smiled softly, knowing exactly how she felt but I couldn’t help but want her to stay on bed rest for another few days at least. I knew it wasn’t going to happen, I was lucky I even managed to convince her to stay still for so long. But now with this sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach I wanted her to rest up some more. I don’t know why but I couldn't help but shake the feeling that something bad was going to happen...and soon.

anon asked: hey may I please have an imagine where you are away on a work trip for like a couple of months and Ben has to look after his teenage daughter and she gets her period and he freaks out before taking care of her and figuring life out? maybe he can ring Gwilym because you’re not picking up your phone? sorry if that’s weird
I got so inspired reading this prompt omfg… i think this turned out pretty good lemme know what you think! I also decided to write this in a different tense than i normally do.
y/n isn’t really involved in this, but she’s mentioned a bit :)
wc: 1.8k
warnings: swearing, unedited, mentions of periods and everything that goes along with it, fluffy ben w daughter
“Remember, soccer practice 5-6:30 on Tuesday and Thursday, and she’s having Madison over for a sleepover on Friday, so you need to get them pizza and ice cream if they ask. Check on them once every few hours but not too much-”
“Honey, I got it under control. I promise.” Ben chuckled at his wife’s excessive worrying. It really can’t be that hard taking care of a teenage girl alone for a week, can it? “You’ll be late for your flight.” Ben continued. She let her eyes graze over the expanse of her home before leaning in and kissing her husband on the lips.
“I’ll see you in a week. Good luck.” She said, wheeling her suitcase behind her. Ben laughed, but deep down was slightly nervous. He hasn’t been the sole caretaker of Allison for longer than five days, and that was when she was four.
She was a lot nicer when she was four.
Now she’s 13, and she spends a lot of time in her room and always asks to go to her friend's house. Not that Ben would complain, though. He was convinced he was the favorite parent (even though Allison never told him that).
Tonight, you were planning on taking her to the mom and pop diner, Delilah's Diner, that was around the block from their house, which happened to be Ally’s favorite place to eat.
“Al, we’re going to head over to Delilah’s in ten minutes is that good?” Ben bellowed through the house, hoping she could hear him. There wasn’t a response.
“Allison? Did you hear? We’re leaving in ten.” Ben tried again, but all that followed his words was silence. She must have her damn headphones in. Ben was starting to go up the stairs when Allison bounded down them, her blonde locks flying behind her.
“Do you think we could just go now?” She said breathlessly when she reached the bottom of the stairs.
“Yeah, I guess so. Are you hungry?” Ally nodded feverishly before hooking her arm with her dad’s and walking them out to the car. Ben’s heart melted at her gesture.

Ben and Ally had an oddly amazing conversation at dinner. They had sat and talked for two hours about anything and everything that came to mind. They had milkshakes and ate way more food then they should have.
After they were finished, the pair walked home, laughing and reminiscing on when Ally was little, or when Ben and Y/N first started dating. She was especially intrigued when Ben told her how her mom had dumped Ben for a solid two weeks before they got back together.
Ally went into her room when they got home and changed into comfier clothes, and met Ben back in the living room. The two of them sat on the couch and watched an entire season of Riverdale. Ben hadn’t seen the first season and was incredibly out of the loop and asked Ally about a thousand questions.
“Wait, so are they dating?” He had asked as he took a sip from his glass of water.
“No! Dad, we’ve been over this. They broke up three episodes ago.” Ally had spoke between giggles.
“Ah, that’s right, my bad.” Ben had responded back.
Ben felt his eyes start to droop and a yawn squeeze it’s way through his lip before he looked at the clock and realized the time. “Holy shit, it’s 3 am!” Ben exclaimed, practically jumping up and scaring the shit out of Ally.
“Oh god… so much for me passing my math test tomororw.” Ally muttered, beginning to scurry off to her room. Ben bit his lip in thought.
“If you want… I could keep you home from school? Take you to your ‘doctor’s appointment?” Ben asked, raising his eyebrows playfully at his daughter in the dark.
“I don’t have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow,” she responded, not seeming to understand where Ben was going with this.
“Yes, darling I know that. But I could keep you home from school and tell a little white lie? If you want.”
“You just asked if I want to stay home from school for no reason? Is that even a question? Yes. Please,” Ally responded, letting out a slight laugh as she ran up to her dad, “thank you, Dad. I love you,” she murmured into his chest.
“I won’t tell Mom if you promise you won’t,” Ben stated, pulling away from Ally slightly.
“Wouldn’t dream of snitching on you.”
“Glad to hear that.”
Ally bounded away from Ben back to her room, and the father’s cheeks were starting to hurt from smiling so hard. Maybe he is the favorite parent.
--
“Ally, you almost ready?”  Ben yelled impatiently as he waited for her in the kitchen. His leg was bouncing slightly from anxiety. He was worried Y/N would somehow find out about their shenanigans. There was no answer from his teenage daughter.
“Al?” Ben yelled again. And just like last time, no response. He yelled her name a few more times and there wasn’t an answer. Ben assumed yet again that Ally had her headphones in. He trudged up the stairs, walking into her room to find her bed made and completely empty. He was confused.
“Ally?” Ben said again, before walking out of her room and noticing the light on in the bathroom. He knocked on the door lightly, “you almost ready to go?” he asked. He heard a few sniffles and a soft “yeah.”
His heart dropped at the sound of her voice. She sounded like she had been crying. “Are you okay, love?” Ben spoke through the door, his voice soft and tender. There was a pause before he heard some shuffling from in the bathroom. She opened the door, revealing her slumped shoulders and puffy eyes.
Ben didn’t miss a beat before wrapping her in a tight hug, hoping to comfort her. He searched her eyes for a moment, waiting for her to say something.
“Dad… I-I think I…” she started to say before looking down at her feet in her embarrassment. Ben gently lifted her chin up to look at him again, silently urging her to keep talking.
“I think I just got my period.”
Oh fuck.
This week had been so simple and enjoyable for Ben. He was about to take his daughter out for breakfast and relax all day, probably have some more ice cream. And now he had to figure out how to deal with this.
“Oh. Well… okay. Give me a second, love. Just sit down for a second.”
Ally nodded and sat down on the closed toilet, staring ahead at the wall. Ben walked quickly into the living room, dialing Y/N’s phone number into his phone as fast as he could.
He put it to his ear, expecting to hear his wife’s sing-songy voice in a few moments. But it went to voicemail. Ben repeated the process multiple times, but there was no response. He mumbled a few curses under his breath before closing his eyes to think about what to do.
Gwilym.
He had two daughters, and one of them was well into their teens. He would know. Ben dialed his number, crossing his fingers slightly to increase the chances of Gwil picking up. And he did.
Relief coursed through the body of the blonde at the sound of the lanky man’s voice. He explained what was going on to Gwil, which caused Gwil to let out a chuckle.
“I was the same way when that happened with Kelsie. Her mom was at the store, and I kinda had to figure it out. Leave the ‘talk’ to Y/N; just get her whatever she wants. And make sure she’s not in pain. Let her talk, but let her hide in her room if she wants. Just be there for her.”
Ben was eternally grateful for Gwil’s advice, and made a mental note to send him a thank-you text later on as he walked back to the bathroom.
“Ally? I think your mom has some stuff you could use in her bathroom.” Ben’s voice was quiet and calm, and he led Ally to the bathroom he shared with her mom.
He opened up the cabinet under their sink and grabbed a few pads and tampons, quickly explaining what they were to his daughter.
“This is a pad, which goes in your underwear and just catches all the blood. And this,” Ben paused, holding it in front of him, “is a tampo, and it-”
“Yeah, I know what a tampon is, dad.”
“O-Oh okay.”
The two of them sat in silence for a while, on the floor in Ben’s bathroom. “I’m scared, dad,” Ally whispered softly into the silence of the bathroom. Ben whipped his head up to look at her, tears welling up in her eyes. He immediately pulled her into a tight hug, comfortingly rubbing her back.
“Love, it’s really not a big deal! I promise-” Ben began to speak before Ally interrupted.
“It’s not this. I knew it was going to happen I just… it just hit me that I’m not a little kid anymore. And I'm eventually going to college and I’ll live alone and get married and have kids and I’m scared.”
Ben felt his heart shatter in his chest at the sound of his daughter so heartbroken. He pulled away slightly and grabbed her shoulders, looking her directly in the eyes.
“Al, baby. That stuff is in the future. You’ve got a long time to prepare for that. And you’re going to be ready, I know it. Just take things one day at a time. Get through 8th grade before you start worrying about getting married, okay?” he paused and flashed a comforting smile at Ally.
“And your mom and I are going to be there with you, every step of the way. We got your back. We will always be there for you. When you graduate from high school, we’ll be there. When you get married, we’ll be there, god forbid you have kids, we’ll be there! Always. I promise. You’re going to be okay. If I can get through adult life and somehow manage to find someone as amazing as your mom to marry, you’ll do just fine.”
Ally was crying again, trying to wipe the tears out of her eyes before they slid down her cheeks. She gave a half smile at Ben during his little speech.
“I’ll go pick up some breakfast and we’ll finish watching Riverdale, yeah?” Ben spoke, waiting for Ally to approve or deny his little plan. She nodded, and Ben helped her out to the couch. He kissed her lightly on the head before walking out, texting Y/N and filling her in on the situation.
And, even though he hated Riverdale, Ben would watch it over and over again to make his little girl smile. He was scared shitless for Ally’s future and his own, but deep down he knew that as long as he had his two favorite girls in the world by his side, everything would turn out okay.

I’m so glad you’re back - Chapter 10
chapter 1  chapter 2  chapter 3  chapter 4  chapter 5  chapter 6  chapter 7  chapter 8  chapter 9  chapter 11  Chapter 12  chapter 13  chapter 14  chapter 15  Epilogue
One by one, each Avenger jumped from their time and destination they had collected the stones from, joining each other in the quantum vortex.
It doesn't take a few seconds before they are all their normal size again and landing on their feet onto the platform of the time machine in the hangar.
Once they land, they all deactivate their quantum bands around their wrists, the nano armour retracting from their bodies returning them to their normal suits. The air starts to fill with happiness and laughs as the team started talking to each other and realised they had the stones and started to give each other high fives and hugs. They'd done it! But the celebrations the team had started were soon cut short.
Natasha watched as her friends embraced in hugs and told each other welcome back. But no-one had taken notice yet of her, and the absence of one of their own. Except for nebula, she wasn't celebrating like everyone else, instead, she was looking around and saw her upset face.
Falling to her knees, a loud bang echos in the room at the sound of her legs collapsing. Suddenly everyone stops and whips their heads in her direction. They all fall silent as they look at her face, there are traces of tears on her cheeks, her eyes reddened. It's after Tony sees her face that he notices that there is one less person in the room than before they left. Clint wasn't stood beside her.
“Natasha? Wheres Clint?” Tony calls out to her, worried about his friend he immediately steps over to her and bends slightly to wrap an arm around her shoulder. At Tony's question, the rest of the Avengers start to move their heads around and shifting their eyes side to side trying to find the archer among their group, even looking around the room in the furthest corners in case he had landed in a different spot or had possibly arrived before them. But alas, he wasn't anywhere to be seen.
Once the group had finished searching the room, they all turned back to Natasha, waiting for her answer, the braided redhead carefully reached her arm outwards to the group, her clenched hand opened, her fingers slowly uncurling, revealing the orange infinity stone.
“Th- there-there was a price. A soul for a soul.” she could barely even whisper her words as she finished speaking.
Watching as her head dropped and she started to silently sob, Tony shut his eyes and held onto his friend tighter as he accepted the truth. Clint was gone.
The rest of the team watched Natasha and tony with sorrow in their eyes. Of course, thor rhodey and bruce’s reactions were more emotional than the others in their team. They had been friends for years, they had met his kids, his family. Scott and rocket were also saddened at the realisation. And nebula remained indifferent. They may have only known him for a short time, some of them only a few days, but he was their teammate. And today they lost him.
It took a few minutes for her to stand up and move, but with Tony's help, he helped her up onto her feet and led her away from the time machine and took her to her room to be alone.
The rest of the Avengers took a moment to mourn as Tony took Natasha. Rhodey, Bruce, rocket and Scott changed out of their suits and into normal clothes and went to sit outside near the lake. Nebula had wondered off, distancing herself from the team so they wouldn't suspect anything, using the teammate's death as an excuse to exclude herself. After taking Natasha to her room, Tony left to join the boys on the deck to talk about their fallen friend. Each sharing a different story about him.
Tony mentioned the first time Clint took them to his house, and that he thought Laura and the kids were agents, which made rocket laugh at Tony's stupidity to assume that the kids were agents.
Bruce only had stories from their time between the battle of new york and Ultron. Going on missions together, patching everybody up when they were hurt.
Of course, rocket had only just met him, but the racoon did share his thoughts about Clint. And that he was genuinely sorry about his family, and that he respected the archer.
And Scott, well Scott only really had memories from the incident from the accords. Teaming up, then getting arrested together. In the end, he and Clint had taken deals, both having to wear an ankle monitor for 2 years. It was a crazy thought to him. Ti was 7 years ago but to him only 2.
After the 4 boys had finished sharing, they make their way back inside the compound and into the workshop.
But when the boys were outside, Thor had gone to see Natasha. She had taken care of him for years, always making sure he was okay, keeping him on the right track. He knew how she must be feeling, she lost a friend, a man that was practically a brother. Now it was his turn to comfort her.
Knocking on her door, he waited until he could vaguely hear the soft voice of his friend telling him to come in. gently, Thor pulled the handle down and pushed the door open. Making his way in, he saw Natasha sat on the edge of her bed, staring into nothing, her hands in her lap.
walking over to her, the blonde god slowly sits next to her, the mattress dipping as he did. For a few seconds, he's silent, unsure of what to say, but eventually, he tries his best to comfort her.
“I spoke to my mother”
His words gain her attention, she didn't expect it.  Natasha lifts her head slightly to look at the blonde.
“You did?”  gently thor nods his head at his friend. The hint of a smile making its way to his lips.
“I miss her so much, she knew who I was straight away, she always knew what to say and what to do”
This makes Natasha smile when he mentions his mother's maternal instinct.
“I bet she did. Us moms always know what to do.”
“If she was here, I know she would do a better job of comforting you as you said, mothers always know what to do, especially to make you feel better. I know Clint was your oldest friend and I'm deeply sorry about him and I will remember him forever for his bravery.”
Turning to face his friends, thor reaches out his arms and pulls her into a hug, practically engulfing her frame with his. But she didn't mind, Natasha just returned the hug, grateful for the comfort.
“Thank you, Natasha, for being there for me always.” Natasha meant a lot to Thor, she really did. She was one of the only people he kept in contact with after all these years, and after losing his people and last of his family she comforted him and practically became his family, she was like a sister, and her son his nephew.
“Your basically my big brother Thor, ill always be there for you,” she said back, her nose quietly sniffling.
“And I, you. I know if Clint was here he would demand I look out for you and have your 6, and when we get everyone back, ill make sure to tell his family that he will forever reside in Valhalla for his sacrifice and that he was the best of us.”
Slightly pulling away from their hug, thor stretched his neck to the side and gave a gentle kiss to Natasha's cheek.
“ in all honesty Natasha, I can't help but be glad you came back. As awful as it sounds.”
She took no offence to his words, she knew he felt guilty to say it considering her return came at a price.
“It's okay Thor, I know what you mean. We fought when we were on vormir, em and Clint. Neither of us wanted each other to do it, and for a few seconds, I thought it was gonna be me. I jumped and then the idiot jumped after me. But in those few seconds when I was falling, all I could think about was James.”
At the mention of her son, her eyes start to water. She hadn't realised before when she and Clint were on vormir how serious it actually was. She would have died. Gone forever. She would have never seen her baby again.
“I'm forever in his debt. Even now he's gone. He gave his life to save mine, to save everyone. So I could see my son again, I can't imagine not seeing him, the thought of not being there for him. Clint gave me another chance at life today. He's a hero,”
“Yes he is.” thors heart nearly broke at her words, she talked about not being able to see her son anymore, and that Clint has saved her again. He couldn't himself imagine her not being here either. Natasha had been such a constant these past few years, both her and his nephew.
Natasha wiped the tears that had fell from her face, finally calmed down. After making sure she was okay, Thor and Natasha both left to join the rest of their friends in the workroom, where Scott, Tony, rocket and Bruce were now constructing their own gauntlet.
……
Standing in the back of the room, Natasha watched as the genius, hulk and racoon worked to insert the infinity stones into the iron gauntlet. Thor and rhodey were stood on her left also watching the three work, but nebula was nowhere to be seen and hadn't since they got back.
Natasha had noticed nebula had been absent for a while, but just put it down to her wanting to let them have their time to mourn.
Everyone minus the blue cyborg watched tensely as the metal hands of the machine picked up each stone and place them into the gauntlet one by one, it was nervewracking watching them attach to the metal. rocket, tony and Bruce watched up close to the glass as the machine placed the last one. With all 6 stones now attached, the gauntlet let off a glow of power.
“BOO!” the sudden fright make tony and bruce jump a mile. All rocket could do was laugh at them for jumping at his joke. nothing was going to happen when they placed them in the metal of course, but rocket couldn't help himself, it was too much of a good opportunity.
With the gauntlet assembled, the rest of the team suited up.
It was time.
“You saw what those stones did to Thanos, they almost killed him. None of you could survive that.” Bruce knew he had to be the one to do it. It was just logical. He couldn't let thor do it, even with his persistence he wouldn't let the god try. Bruce knew Thor had felt enormous guilt from not killing Thanos the day of the snap, Thor was still mentally trying to heal and move on, he wasn't in the right shape of mind. Not to mention he had a race of people he had to take care of.
Walking over closer to him to speak, Natasha put her hands on her hips, like a mother scolding her child and looked up to reach the green man's eyes.
“How do we know you will?” the braided redhead was obviously concerned, she didn't want anything to happen to her friend, not after just losing her oldest one.
“You don't. But the radiation’s mostly gamma. It's like I was made for this.” not fighting his words anymore, Natasha nodded. There was no stopping him and truth be told she knew he was right. She knew none of the rest of them wouldn't be able to take that kind of power. If it was going to be any of them that had a chance of coming out of this alive. It was Bruce.
The 6 other Avengers spread themselves around the room, Natasha was kept shielded behind Tony and his virtual shield whilst also holding her soldiers rounded one, tony suited up in his nono tech iron man suit.
Scott kept by the door and activated his helmet for extra protection. Thor and rocket stood opposite to Natasha and tony, also shielding themselves from any blows the stones may cause, and just in case, thor held Mjolnir and Stormbreaker in defence.
And in the middle of the room, Bruce stood holding the iron gauntlet, waiting to put it on. Once he was sure his friends were protected from the more than likely blast, he lifted his left arm holding the glove up and guided it to his right hand.
The small metal glove moved and adjusted itself to fit bruces hand as he glided it inside. The once human-sized glove was now able to fit his larger one.
Once on, the stone's power raced through bruces arm and body, making him scream in pain and fall to his knees. The stones were powerful, more powerful than anything in the universe, and now it was coursing through his veins.
Inbetween his screams he could hear his teammates telling him to remove it. Begging for him to take it off. But he refused. He could do this.
He had to do this.
Raising his right gloved arm, Bruce took a deep breath, in and out so gently. He bent his ring finger and thumb towards each other, placing the tips against the other. All it took was one slight movement and then...
Snap.
--------
Once they had returned to the facility, nebula had swiftly made her exit from the strangers around her. She supposed they were the people the traitor was on a team with. Once the rest of them had discovered one of their own had died, she took the opportunity to leave and separated from them, giving them a reason to believe she was mourning. She didn't know if the older version of herself had known this man properly, but even if she did or didn't, her absence would be assumed as a sign of mourning.
But unbeknownst to them, she wasn't their nebula. The blue cyborg avoided the teammates as best she could whilst they gathered out near the lake and also when they built the gauntlet. She kept an eye on them to make sure they wouldn't follow or suspect her as she made her way to the quantum time machine.
Before she had jumped, she had taken the particles and suit off her doppelganger and gave them to her father. With the help of his minions, he managed to create more of the particles so he could use them to come to the future. Now all she had to do was activate the machine, allowing Thanos to arrive in 2023.
Once she knew they were all occupied with the green monster and the gauntlet, nebula made her way fro the hangar, retracing her steps to find the room.
Walking over to the machinery that filled half the space, nebula got up close to the control panel, she was unsure of which button to press at first, but she was smart, this is what she had been trained for years for. But in the end, it wasn't that hard to figure out. To her right was a big red button. She couldn't help but sigh and roll her eyes.
Terrans are unbelievable, she thought.
Just as she hit the button, nebula felt a surge of power pass through her body. And travel through the rest of the building.
The green monster.
He did it.
But it didn't matter, because after a few seconds of activating the machine, the sanctuary II was transported into their air space. The massive, dark ship hovering above the building.
Thanos was here.
…..
Once Bruce had clicked his fingers, the power was too much for him that he almost passed out at the energy surging through his arm and body. Each of his friends ran over instantly as he fell, disregarding their shields, rocket, rhodey, and Tony worked to take the glove of his now damaged and charred arm. it looked smaller than the other, the power had obviously taken its toll, so Natasha and Thor tried to keep him awake. But Scott walked towards the window instead, his attention taken by something outside.
As lang got closer to the glass, he noticed it looked slightly brighter outside, as if the clouds had gone away to let the sunshine through at the act Bruce had done. Then he heard something. chirping.
Scott had been at this exact window before Bruce had snapped. Before they even asked for Tony's help. When he first arrived a few days ago. But there had been no birds there before.
And here, right in front of him, there were two birds chirping away as if nothing had happened.
Scotts face lite up in realisation, a huge smile gracing his face.
“Guys we did it.”
The rest of his team turn to look at him as he shouted out. All in slight disbelief.
Then a buzz started to ring out.
It was a phone, turning her head Natasha looked in the other direction of Scott towards the sound of the vibrations. Leaving thro to help Bruce. Step by step she walked over to look at it. Picking up the small object and Holding it in her hand she turned it over in her fingers to see the caller ID.
Laura.
Natashas breath caught in her throat as she looked at the picture and read the name that was saved in Clint's phone. He still had her saved after all these years, there was even a little heart next to her name.
Since Scott and Natasha were occupied on opposite sides of the room, The rest of the boys carried on to help Bruce with his arm and also had slight celebrations behind her, but Natasha could only focus on the phone.
It rang out a few more times before Natasha could answer. Swiping her finger along with the touch screen button, the mother answered the phone, slowly bringing it up to her ear.
Natasha held her breath. It couldn't be anyone else calling this phone. It was Clint's phone, and it was lauras number. It was Laura. She was calling him, Scott was right. They brought everyone back. She could just about hear the sound of lauras voice worry down the phone a voice she hadn't heard for years, but before she could respond, the compound trembled with the force of a hit.
And then everything went black.

**********
My phone started to ring from where it was laying next to me. I looked down to see it was a FaceTime call from my father.
"Sorry, it's my Dad."
"Don't apologize. You have a lot going on in your family today. Answer the phone." I smiled and slid my thumb across my iPhone screen to answer the call.
"Hey Dad."
"Hey kiddo. How's the first day of summer break?" he asked. "You look wet so I'm going to assume good."
"It's great. Axe is sleeping right now and we are all over at Ellery's best friend's house swimming."
"That's a fun way to start summer."
"Elle sure thinks so." She was swimming over to us and Jeremy picked her up out of the water so she could sit next to me.
"Hi Papa!" She loved my Dad.
"How's my little fish? You don't have a life jacket on so I'm assuming you're doing good."
"It's so fun, Papa. Mom and I still know the flip trick."
"That's awesome, Elle." Before I knew it Ava was sitting next to Ellie. "And this beautiful little girl must be, Ava."
"Hi," Ava said excitedly. "Are you Ellie's Papa?"
"I am. It's very nice to meet you." I moved the phone a little bit to show Jeremy.
"This is Ava's Dad, Jeremy. Jeremy this is my Dad, Vince."
"Nice to meet you," Jeremy said as he smiled. "You've got a great daughter and granddaughter."
"I like to think so, though my daughter is evidently aiding and abetting her little brother." We all started to laugh as I turned the phone back to look at me.
"Do you really think T gave me a chance to say yes or no? He called me and said he needed a break from California and didn't even really give me any sort of timeline so originally I assumed he meant like a vacation or something. Then Frankie called me in a panic because of it and now Tony is in a car driving here. I have no idea what is going on."
"You're okay with him staying with you, right?" I nodded. "Do you need any financial support with him there? I know having the four of you in the house now it is taken care of but you don't need to support him."
"I should be okay but don't hold me to that. If he's going to pay his own way I'll be fine."
"I can send you some money to cover his rent." My Dad was the best. He knew that Tony needed space and rather than freak out at me for taking him in like my sister was doing he was seeing how he could help. Tony and I had always been close despite the age difference. He knew I'd take care of him, let him have the space he needed but also make sure he didn't totally screw up his life.
"I should be okay."
"Let me help. Please."
"Fine. But you don't need to. He has a trust fund. He can cover his own expenses."
"I know. But you guys are my kids. I want to help where I can. Have you decided yet if you're coming back to LA for the trial?"
"I haven't. Jane and I had lunch this week. She's planning on going to LA for it. I told her she could stay at my condo. If I come back there's no way the kids and I can fit there."
"If you come back you can stay at home. Mandi and I would love to have you and the kids here."
"You would love to have us there. Mandi would be stressed out by it and likely at the spa by the second day." He laughed because he knew it was true. She really was a kind person but she wasn't really sure how to be a mother, even to Tony really. She did a lot better with him than she did with Frankie and me, though admittedly getting thrown into our lives at 13 and 10 couldn't have been easy for a 25-year-old woman. She'd fallen for my Dad. By the time I was 13 and Frankie was 16 we were living with them full-time as my Mom had accepted a job in London. She was still pregnant with Tony. It was an incredibly overwhelming time for her and I never really understood it until the moment the babies became mine. I hadn't quite found a way to tell Mandi that I got it now and she was still too panicked that at the idea of having five grandchildren when she was still pretty young.
"You're funny, kid. Will you let me know when Tony gets there? I know Mandi is really stressed about it. Enough that she called me trying to see if I could move workaround to come out for the memorial service."
"Really?" I was shocked.
"She has been really torn about that. She wants to be there for you and the kids, you know she always loved Sam. But she wasn't sure if your Mother was coming and you know how she can make Mandi feel."
"Mom is somewhere in Europe. After how horrid that funeral service was she's not allowed here for this. I haven't told anyone but I specifically asked her not to come back. She always makes everything about her and this is about celebrating the life of my two best friends and being there for the babies. I'd like you both to come but if you can't sneak away from work tell her she is more than welcome with me. Frankie and Ryan will be here with the kids. Alex and Max are coming with the boys. Obviously Savvy and Tony will be there since they are my roommates now. Sam's parents are coming though they aren't staying overnight or anything. I have 8 bedrooms plus the studio above the garage which is where I'm putting Tony. I can make it work to have you all here. Or there's a really great hotel not far from me that you'd love if a house full of people is too much for you guys. I'd love for you to see the house and the kids." They had only seen my Dad and Mandi over holidays since I wasn't ready to go back to LA yet. Thanksgiving last year the kids and I stayed and hosted Sam's parents. December when we all went to Mexico for Christmas and New Year's. Then for Spring Break my Dad took all of us to Florida to go to Disney and Universal because my oldest nephew, Carter, turned 10 and his only wish was to go to Hogwarts. They'd missed out on Axel's first birthday which was really hard for me but Mandi's Mom had fallen that week and she was taking care of her as she adjusted back at home so they hadn't been able to come.
"I'll talk to her tonight but plan on us being there. I don't want to overwhelm you with more people. Between you, your sister and Alex there will be seven kids not including Tony or Savannah. That's a lot of people."
"Tell me about it. It was overwhelming for Axel's birthday and the boys didn't even come with Alex because they were on some camping trip with Max and I think Cub Scouts or something."
"Send me the information on the hotel. That might make it easier to get Mandi there."
"Deal."
"I love you, kid. I'm proud of you."
"Thanks, Dad. It means a lot. I'm trying my best. It would mean a lot to have you there. Plus if Ryan can sneak away from the office you can too."
"Ryan has been on my ass about it. I think he and your sister were planning on coming to the house Saturday with the kids to go swimming and I know your sister plans on making sure that we know she's disappointed that we were going. The looks she gave me for missing Axel's birthday party should be illegal."
My sister was often overbearing and pushy with me but she was that way with everyone. She was very often put in charge when we were growing up. She's always felt like making sure I was taken care of was her responsibility. It's why she took me and the babies into her house until we moved. Then when we moved she abandoned her husband for two weeks and stayed with me while I adjusted to my new life and new house. She sobbed as she had to leave knowing that I wasn't fully adjusted to life as a new Mom in a new place and she couldn't do more. She needed to get back to her own kids and husband. I didn't go more than a month without seeing her. She'd just appear in my living room sometimes with all three kids and husband, sometimes by herself, sometimes with one or two of the other members of her family. She'd been here like clockwork every month since I moved because I wasn't ready to take the kids back to LA yet.
"Well, I'm being rude. I'll call you tonight once the kids are in bed while Tony and I are getting him settled. I love you Dad."
"I love you too, Charlotte Marie."
"Bye Papa!" Ellie said.
"Bye Fish!" I watched as my sidekick waved goodbye to my Dad and he blew her a kiss before ending the call.
"Sorry," I said to Jeremy.
"No need to apologize. You've clearly got a lot going on in your family." He helped both of the girls back into the pool before jumping out to sit next to me. "So your Dad hasn't been out here since you moved?" I shook my head trying not to get emotional like I always did when I talked about this. "Any particular reason?"
"I honestly don't know. His work has been nuts since we moved. As much as he's not handling the murder case, he's been involved. He does all of the legal stuff for all of us so while Sam was basically like another kid because she often appeared at home with me, she and Michael were also clients. Mandi had always taken to Sam the way most people did. She was magnetic. This beautiful soul that just released this light into the world. Mandi had been who went with me to get the kids stuff. She was a Mom, she knew what I'd need. She lives with that same trauma. She also got two more grandkids added to her life the day she turned 50 and while she adores them to no end that was overwhelming. She was 25 when she married my Dad. We moved in full-time with them when she was pregnant with Tony. Frankie and I were far from easy. If you ever meet my sister you'll know why. Just imagine me but three years older and 300 times crazier. She's got so much energy. Mandi never really got the motherhood she imagined. She was thrown into it with two teenagers while also caring for an infant. I didn't quite understand why it was so hard for her until a year ago."
"That makes a lot of sense. Hopefully, they can make it out here and it'll give you and your stepmom a chance to build towards a new relationship."
"One can hope." I needed to change the subject. Talking about me constantly wasn't a good plan when making a new friend. I could hear Sam in my head.
Come the fuck on, Chuckles. You suck at making friends. Stop answering his questions about yourself. You're weird. You're lucky that I overlooked the weird for your brilliance and the humor that hid somewhere inside you. Ask him about himself. And look at his eyes, they are gorgeous. So is his chest.
"Are you close with your family?"
"Extremely. It's why I have such a big house. Being the oldest means that there's a lot of siblings around. My sisters all have kids so this is essentially Camp Renner. Everyone shows up for a couple weeks in the summer. My house in LA is pretty big too. I made sure that they would fit a big family because of how mine is. Growing up as the only boy was a bit weird but my sisters are my best friends. They can be nosy, a little overbearing, and protective. My divorce was brutal and my sisters were the fiercest protectors."
"I've never been through a divorce but my last breakup, Frankie was the all-star. When he showed up to pick up his stuff from my condo he left with a black eye because of my sister."
"How long ago was that?"
"A year ago." I laughed a bit.
"Damn, the last year has been a bitch for you, huh?" I could only nod and laugh. "My divorce was kind of like that. Hell, we got married and filed for divorce in less than a year. Worst mistake of my life."
"Was Ava a product of your marriage? I mean only because that might make it less of a mistake. Ugh, here I go with asking the awkward questions now."
"My ex-wife is Ava's mother but we'd already had Ava. It was truly a nightmare. And of course, because it's all public record the tabloids had fun with it. The downside of fame."
"It seems like one of the many. Like I feel like being famous has a few perks but a lot of drawbacks. Like honestly I'm glad that as a composer people might know who I am but they don't KNOW who I am. I can still live relatively anonymously. You, on the other hand, you're on Axel's pajamas." Jeremy started to laugh again.
"I'm also on Ava's pajamas."
"Okay, I'm not gonna lie. I sleep in a cut-up Avengers t-shirt but there are no pictures of anyone on it. Just the A logo. Tony might freak out when he meets you. Just a heads up."
"Is he a big fan of the MCU?"
"That's an understatement. He's a comic book nerd. Yet another of his skills is that he can draw and he started doing that fairly young when he found comics. He was 12 when Iron Man came out in the theaters and despite being 26 and Tony being WAY too young to see it, I took my little brother to see it. We have gone to a midnight showing of every MCU movie. When he was in school he'd sneak home for the weekend so we could go. We haven't missed a single one. He's trying to tell me before the final one comes out next year that we are going to re-watch all of them together in preparation, in chronological order not release order. I don't know if the Mom version of me can handle that."
"So 26 when Iron Man came out. Makes you 36?"
"Look at you being good at math," I replied laughing.
"Okay. You have a live-in nanny that I've met at Ava's birthday party. She's at least 18 or 19 and you said she's a friend from college's kid. Explain that to me."
"Well, she's 18 for another three weeks. Alex got pregnant fall of freshman year and had Savy the next summer. She stayed in California that summer. My Dad had moved from Beverly Hills to Santa Monica during the school year. His place is huge and has two apartments as part of it. Alex was from Chicago if she'd gone home she'd never come back. She lived in one of the apartments, Sam in the other. She brought Savy home to my Dad's house and that was our home. We did that until our junior year when we found a place closer to campus that all of us moved into. We all lived together until the three of us were done with our master's degrees. The summer after we finished and before Alex started on her doctorate she got married to Max and I bought my condo as Sam took off to London for a couple of years thinking she'd fallen in love."
"Your Dad and Mandi let your two best friends move into their house one of whom had an infant?"
"Well, sort of. The only part we all shared was a courtyard. The main house had 7 bedrooms, they wouldn't have ever noticed. But there was a guest house and apartment. I give Mandi a hard time but it's mainly for the way she freaks about Tony. She was much cooler before he hit high school. She was the master with Savannah when she was tiny. I'd find her in the middle of the night walking the baby up and down the deck by the pool softly singing to her while Alex was passed out on a lawn chair. Tag teaming that baby with basically four Moms, my Dad, and Tony, it was literally a village raising the child." My phone buzzed in my hand, a new message from Mandi. "Speak of the devil."
Thank you for taking your brother in. You're a great sister and mother. Things have been rearranged and we'll be able to be out for the memorial service. I know your house will be full but if you have room for us I'd love if we could stay.
Of course I have room! It's a HUGE house. You know that Sam wouldn't have anything that wouldn't fit us all. Tony will be staying in the apartment over the detached garage so there's plenty of room. I figure that Alex's boys and Carter will stay in one room. Aria and Harlow usually like having a slumber party in Ellie's room. So there's still a lot of room. If you think that many people will be overwhelming I can get you a hotel room.
It'll be okay. I'm from a big family. I can handle this. Also if I can't handle this and need a hotel after a night you aren't allowed to judge.
Are you kidding me? I honestly thought about telling Tony that he needed to stay in the main house and I was moving to the apartment. EVERYTHING is overwhelming for me these days.
EVERYTHING.
It will be nice to have you there. I'll plan for an afternoon where we can go to this cute salon in town for pedicures. We can either do it just us or we can make all of the men watch the children and we can bring Frankie, Alex and Savy.
Men watch the kids. I need time with my girls. Well, the adult ones. I tried to take Aria and Harlow for pedicures last week. I do not recommend that.
Noted.
I'm really glad you changed your mind. I know the kids will be too. They miss Nana Mandi. Tony will enjoy seeing you too. Maybe in a couple of weeks, he will have settled down a little.
I think by then I'll be okay. I'm being overbearing. I realized after he packed his car up and sped out of the driveway that he did exactly what I did at his age. I'd spent two weeks at home listening to my Mom talk about priorities and the future and couldn't take it. Granted I packed a car and moved from Laguna to Los Angeles. Tony is going a little bit farther but he has you. If I hadn't packed my car up and left I'd never have met your Dad. I wouldn't have you and Frankie in my life and Tony wouldn't exist.
Just don't tell him I'm having this epiphany. I want him to sweat a bit.
My lips are sealed.
Your Dad said you might come home for the trial. If you do you are welcome to stay here. I'll get the kids' rooms ready. We can make the three of you comfortable here. Well, as comfortable as you can be in this situation.
I'm thinking about it. Jane is going. I should be there to support her. But I just don't know if I can go back and relive it again. I basically relive it anytime every time I close my eyes.
That's been my fear. My therapist and I have done a lot of work. Are you still seeing yours?
Yeah. We FaceTime once a week for appointments. She's gotten a few referrals for me here that I've tried two out here. The second one wasn't terrible but it's just not right yet. I have an appointment with a third try next week.
Good. I'm really excited to come to see you and the babies. I miss all of you so much. Oh and your Dad said that you had a playdate today with Ellie's best friend and a Dad. I need to learn more about this.
Yes we are at a playdate and I'm the worst guest as I've been dealing with family stuff for a while now but he seems fairly understanding. Ellie's best friend Ava invited us over to celebrate the first day of summer in her pool with her Dad. I'll call you tomorrow to tell you about that. He said he'd come help deal with Tony moving in and help me move stuff around to get him settled.
That is a very nice and helpful Dad.
He is. The questions going through your head have answers. They are yes, yes, and no.
Too funny. Call me tomorrow and we'll start planning what I can do to help for the visit for the memorial.
I will. Love you.
Love you.
"Funny story. Mandi realized that she did the exact same thing Tony is doing when she moved to LA." Jeremy started to laugh loudly. "So she grew up in Laguna. Went off to school. Moved home to figure out what she wanted to do next and within two weeks her Mom drove her so crazy she got in a car and moved to LA. She told me she's glad Tony has me because I know from the story that she stayed in a hotel for a while until she found an apartment and a job. At least I still get to watch out for Tony and make sure he doesn't do anything completely fucking stupid. She and my Dad are coming out for the memorial and staying with me, which is impressive."
"That's great. Hopefully, it will be a good weekend to have your family all together."
"I'm sure it will be."
***********
AUTHOR'S NOTE:
We now have a little bit more insight into Charlie's relationship with her parents. Mandi has reason to have been a bit distant over the last year. It's understandable that if she saw the same scene that Charlie did that she would be struggling, especially given her relationship with Sam. Also, the fact that she wants Tony to sweat a little bit about running away to his sister's is kind of funny. Charlie is very close with most of her family.  We will continue to learn about that along the way.
The idea of little Axel having Hawkeye pajamas is kind of cute. I have a 4-year-old nephew who says that Hawkeye is his favorite Avenger. He's one of mine too. While Captain America is my favorite superhero, Hawkeye is probably my favorite Avenger because he is just a normal guy with super skills, not superpowers.
Now we just get to wait for Tony to arrive and see where things go with Jeremy and Charlie since her answers to the questions in Mandi's head were 'yes, yes, and no.'
I can't wait to share more of this story with you and hope you're enjoying it.

Fluffy and Angsty: 3,051 words
A/N: Here, have another part. It’s a little shorter than normal, but not by much.
Tumblr media
Your peaceful corner of the universe was utter chaos. There was crying in all parts of the house, but also the chatter of children that were with Jungkook over in one corner, fascinated by the kids movie playing on the television. The kids wouldn’t go near you, and if you went near them… The babies, thankfully, didn’t care as long as their needs were met. There were about twenty-five kids total, seven of which were under the age of one. Hobi was doing his best to calm kids down, then deposit them with the others in front of the movie. Jimin had a few that were asleep upstairs, and two on each hip as tried to soothe them to sleep, his purr sounding more forced the longer it went. Jungkook kept checking on the ones around him, seeming a little jumpy. You carefully set the sleeping kitten into the carrier, careful to rub her ears a little and tuck the blanket around her. “Next.” Jin passed the Rabbit-hybrid he was trying to soothe to you, picking up the last one that was only slightly fussy. He was great with the babies, and the toddler that had attached himself to Jin’s leg. He seemed to know exactly what to do, despite the overwhelming numbers. You helped the bunny-baby curl into your arm, tucked up to your chest. He instantly calmed down. Jin looked over, looking slightly offended. “I did that.” “Um, Jin, I’m a little more…motherlike?” You glanced down meaningfully. His gaze flicked from your face and he looked away, cheeks red. “That’s…valid.” You stirred the pots again, then tasted both. “Soups are done.” “So, about the picnic,” Hobi started, looking amused and exhausted. “It’s been postponed until I find out what the hell my brother was thinking sending all these kids here,” You murmured, feeling a little flustered. Jin got up, scooping up the toddler on his leg and strolling over to stand beside you as the lab-eared toddler shrunk and hid his face in Jin’s shoulder. You looked down as the child whimpered a little. Jin licked his ear, then leaned forward and kissed you. “It smells amazing, darling. Besides, would you rather they were sent to another farm?” You shuddered and shook your head. “No. Never. But it’s hard to take care of kids when they’re afraid of you.” “Eomma! Look at this one! Human ears and a fluffy tail!” Jungkook said, bringing over a sleepy child. He was grinning broadly. You smiled softly. “She’s adorable.” The other kids that had been with him sort of followed, probably because you had said food was ready and Jungkook told them all that they were going to be eating. Many little eyes were on you. “But, Eomma, isn’t it really unusual?” Jungkook asked, setting the girl on the counter. She was sleepy enough that she just sort of blinked at him. You nodded, not daring to move closer in case you scared her. “It’s rare, yes. Not unheard of. It’s especially rare for fox hybrids like her.” “She’s a fox hybrid?” Jungkook asked, surprised. “But she doesn’t look like Hoseok-hyung.” “Hobi isn’t a red fox hybrid, he’s a Canadian marble fox.” The girl looked at Hobi and did a cute little gesture. Immediately, Hobi came and rubbed his face against hers. His hand rubbed behind her human ear. She grabbed onto his arm, giving a whimper of sorts. He nudged Kookie out of the way and picked up the little fox girl, letting out sounds that made the only other fox child, a bright eyed boy who was about five, look up and go over to rub against his leg. Both of them were responding with different noises. Jin chuckled softly. You watched with a smile. Kookie was close to you now, looking at the little bunny in your arms. “There is a bunny! Wow…he’s so little…” “You want to hold him?” You asked. He hesitated, glancing at the kids. “In a bit. We should get them fed.” You nodded. “Right, plenty of time later. Get the bowls out?” “Yes, eomma.” You noticed that the kids looked less wary every time he called you his mother, and you were silently grateful that Jungkook had noticed it before you had. Jimin came down with the baby monitor. “Food?” “You’ll have to help some kids eat while you do,” You told him gently. “Yes, eomma,” He said it without thinking, looking at the baby sleeping in your arms before sleepily rubbing his head on your shoulder. “What’s Hoseok-hyung doing?” “Um, bonding with the other little foxes.” He purr sounded natural now and amused. There was a soft mewl from one of the kids and he straightened. “Because she is my eomma,” He said, scowling slightly. “Doesn’t matter if she’s human. She’s still our eomma.” “Mmhmm,” Hobi hummed, butting his head gently against your other shoulder as he passed by on the way to the sink. Jimin left your side, looking annoyed. “You can’t compare y/n to other humans. Same with her brother, Micheal. They’re the best. You’ll see. Now shush. All of you sit down at one of the tables, we’ll bring you food. There are two soups: vegetable and chicken. Who wants chicken?” Some hands were raised. “Alright. If any of you change your minds you just let us know,” You said in a calmer tone than Jimin was. He seemed a little…hangry. Jin turned your head and kissed you as the kids scrambled to seats while Jungkook and Jimin helped the smaller ones. “We’ll have to have the oldest ones bathe first, then tag-team the younger ones. Especially the cats. This little one can’t have a bath, we’ll have to use a wash cloth for him. The bunny trait is stronger when they’re younger.” He placed a kiss on the baby’s head. “See the white tuft on his head?” You grinned and nodded. “That’ll disappear when he’s older, right?” Jin nodded. “About the time they hit puberty. Jungkook-ssi still had his spot when I took him in.” “No, really?” You grinned, imagining a cute little Jungkook with a white spot on his head. “Jimin-ssi had pictures. I had one of those cameras where the picture is available instantly…” “Polaroid camera.” “Right, and I took pictures of them a month or so after I rescued them. Jimin loved that camera up until its death about a year ago. He took pictures of us a lot. I don’t know what happened to them. Probably still in the shed.” You looked up at him. “You said the place got bought by someone else?” “I assumed it had. I just knew that the owners said I couldn’t work for them anymore and that they didn’t own the farm anymore.” You hummed, then let him take the baby bunny so you could help Kookie fill bowls with soup. It took another ten minutes to get food in front of everyone, including Jimin, Hobi, Jungkook and Jin, and even then, you stayed busy, feeding one of the babies that had woken up hungry. “The food is really good, Eomma, thank you for cooking,” Jungkook called over, keeping the tone of his voice soft so that he wouldn’t disturb the sleeping ones. “You’re welcome,” You said softly, knowing he heard you. One of the little ones had finished and slipped away, coming hesitantly over and looking at you and the babies. Her kitten ears flicked when you smiled at her. “She is nice,” Jimin said, turning in his seat to look at her. “And stop talking in cat. It’s rude.” “Are you really his mom?” She asked, a bit of a mewl to her voice. You smiled a little. “No, but I take care of him as a mother would. I love him like he’s my own.” “But you’re a human.” Jimin growled slightly at her tone. You gave him a look. “Stop it, Jimin-ah. Yes, sweetheart. I am human. But that doesn’t change the fact that I care about them. Kookie, JImin, and Hobi are my babies.” “What about Jin?” She asked, eyes flicking to Jin as he helped four kids at once, two of which sat on his lap. He heard his name and his eyes flicked over, a smile resting on his face. You couldn’t help but smile back. “Um…that’s a little more complicated. Let’s just say that he’s my friend for now.” “Her very good friend,” Jin corrected. You grinned and picked up one of the babies as she fussed over her empty bottle. You had a burp-cloth over your shoulder already and you patted the baby’s back. “So…you adopt them as your own kids?” She asked, tilting her head with wide eyes and alert ears and tail. “Yeah, I guess so. They sort of adopted me first,” You answered, setting the baby back in the carrier before picking up the other and burping it. “Are you adopting us?” You looked at her in surprise. “She can’t,” Hobi said gently. “You’re all too young. We’re taking care of you guys for now.” You gave Hobi a grateful look. “Oh.” Her tail drooped. “But while you’re here, we’re going to take the very best care of you,” You told her, setting the baby down in the carrier. “Which includes food, cuddles, and playtime.” “Cuddles?” She whispered, peeking up at you. One of the other boys had slipped over and his tail wagged a little, looking hopeful. You grinned and nodded. “Cuddles.” The boy didn’t need any more encouragement to hurry forward into your arms, rubbing his head against your shoulder. The girl gave an indignant sound and hurried to claim your other shoulder. She purred softly as your arm encompassed her, rubbing your cheek against the top of her head. The boy’s tail was wagging wildly as he cuddled up to you, a slightly wistful look on his face. “I miss my momma,” He whispered softly. The girl tensed, eyes going wide. You kissed her forehead before letting go of her to hug the boy who was sniffling now. He hugged your neck, whimpering and whining as he started crying in earnest. “Where’s my momma?” “I don’t know, honey,” You murmured, picking him up and cuddling him close. You started humming a lullaby, hoping it would strike a chord with him and provide a little comfort. He calmed down a little, listening to you humming. After you sat on the couch, kids slowly joined you, cuddling close with everyone else as they got close to you. You eventually switched to reading a story, running out of songs. You didn’t want to lose their attention, afraid they would go back to mourning their parents. To remembering the horrible events of the day. Jin and Hobi took kids in pairs to take baths, starting with the kids waking up from napping upstairs. Jungkook and Jimin were going back and forth between helping you with all of the munchkins around and checking on the babies and the kids that were still sleeping upstairs. Before you knew it, all the kids had been bathed and were low-key exploring the house. Well, the kittens were pouting by Jimin because they were forced into water. He was talking lowly, his smile a little tired, but his tail continued to stroke over their ears and try to comfort them. “They’re better when you’re not as dirty,” He told them sweetly. “Y/n?” Micheal called softly from the entrance, then wandered in, watching as the curious children scurried away from him. “Hey…I’m sorry about…this…” You arched an eyebrow. “How long?” “Well…” He looked at all the kids that were listening intently from a distance. Jin cleared his throat. “Why don’t you two talk outside?” You nodded, slipping out from under the kids and following your brother and Jin outside after Micheal waved for Jin to join. You punched Micheal in the arm. “Some warning, maybe?” “I know, sorry. If I had some warning I would have sent some more people to help you.” “Okay, but what’s going on?” “This is…temporary. They wanted to send them to a different farm, I argued that it would be better to put them in a caring environment for a while. That got them to agree to send them here, then I talked to a bunch of people to come up with a different plan. The word has been put out to the hybrid families…see if anyone wants to take in a kid.” Jin eyes widened. “You’re…going to try and place them with hybrid families?” Micheal nodded. “They’ve been through a traumatic experience. The politicians I talked to agreed that it was in the childrens’ best interest to be with their own kind…indefinitely.” Jin let out a choked sound, turning away. You looked at your brother in surprise. “How…?” “I may have exaggerated their emotional state a little. Only one of them actually saw any of the adults getting killed. The others were upset because their parents were taken from them. They don’t really understand that they’re dead. They’ll come to their own conclusions eventually, but being able to be with their own kind is better than most would get.” Micheal looked away. “The place was a nightmare.” You hugged him. “You were amazing today,” You whispered. He shrugged. “Becca’s going over to my house tonight to meet the boys. Do you guys need some extra help here?” “Probably in the morning. You go home, take a shower, relax. Enjoy your time with Becca. Eat.” You told him, kissing his cheek. “We’ll take care of these kids. Just…let me know.” Micheal kissed your forehead as you pulled away. “I’ll see you soon.” Jin caught him and hugged him before micheal could leave. “Thank you. Thank you…” He breathed, sounding choked still. Micheal just nodded, and patted Jin’s back before being released and going around the house to leave. Jin looked at you. “They’re going to be safe…they’re not going to have to suffer like me…like the boys…” He grabbed you and hid his face in your shoulder as you hugged him tightly. His tail was wagging a little as he pulled back and kissed you. You melted into his happy kiss, arms sliding from his waist to around his neck. The news was…beyond what either of you ever imagined. He pulled out of the kiss too quickly for your liking. “We should get back inside before the boys get overwhelmed.” You nodded, then kissed him again. “You know, I thought I was going to be the one to try and make a huge difference. Turns out it’s my brother…” “Only because you influenced him. His actions are reactions to your passion. If it weren’t for you, would he have had hybrid workers?” You hesitated, then shook your head. “It took a lot to convince him. It was a risky move and he didn’t want to endanger my future, or his own.” “If you hadn’t taken us in, would he have adopted Namjoon, Taehyung, and Yoongi?” You shook your head again, knowing he probably wouldn’t have even thought of going to the shelter while he dealt with his workers if you hadn’t had Jungkook and Jimin. Which would have meant that Hobi and the other three would still be in the shelter… “You were the one with compassion for hybrids, your brother learned it from you. He can only do these things because he has your support.” Jin looked down at you. “Because he sees the future you’ve chosen and he wants to protect you from the harshest parts of it. Change it for the better. He’s a good brother. Now, we need to go be good parents and make sure our boys don’t get trampled by a couple dozen small children.” You grinned. “They’re so cute! Did you see Hobi with those fox-hybrids?” He grinned back. “And Jimin-ssi with the kittens?” “And Kookie with all of them. I mean, I didn’t think he could get cuter.” He kept an arm around you as he led the way inside. “Neither did I.” Hobi looked over, curiosity spelled out in the tilt of his head and the alertness of his ears and tail, concern flickering briefly over him when he noticed the remnants of the overwhelmed tears Jin had cried, but quickly realizing that Jin was happy. Beyond happy. The kids quickly seemed to sense his happiness and gathered around him, asking him to play with them, which he agreed to with a big grin. You made your way over to Hobi as the kid he was entertaining abandoned him for the group game. “So?” You shrugged and shook your head. “Best to wait until all the little eavesdroppers have gone to sleep.” “Right. They’re so cute.” He looked at the kids fondly, then looked at you. “But I think Jungkook is getting overwhelmed” You looked over seeing that Kookie’s smile was just a little too fake, and hurried over. “Alright, Jungkook is going to go take a bath now.” Jungkook looked at you in surprise, then smiled and nodded, looking a little relieved. He got himself out from the tangle of the kids arms and legs and bounded over and up the stairs to that bathroom. Soon the kids were trying to hide how they were hungry again, but after hearing a couple rumbling stomachs, you headed back into the kitchen, coming up with some extra food to go with the soups that had made it through lunch somehow. “Food will be ready in another half an hour,” You called to Jin, Jimin, and Hobi. Jin’s tail started wagging. “Thanks, y/n.” Jimin’s purr was audible as he grinned over at you. Hobi’s ears flicked acknowledgment, but he was busy acting silly with a bunch of the kids. Loudly, actually. You were glad Jin had moved the babies into your room so that they wouldn’t be disturbed by noise and thankfully there were multiple sets of baby monitors, but you knew you were in for a long night. One baby was hard enough, but having about nine kids aged two and under? You wouldn’t be sleeping anytime soon.

I grew up on the Island of Hawaii, to be exact I grew up on the Island of Oahu, I’ve lived in Hawaii for 13 years then moved to Las Vegas recently ( a year ago ). And I told myself I will get married in Hawaii or have my honeymoon there because no matter how far I am from home I’ll always find my way back 💖
I know the beach house is in maui but tbh there is not a lot of in my opinion nice beach houses so bear with me please.
Beach House
Warning- Fluff and a making out like teenagers lmao. Being a wanderlust & Visuals.
*I decided to cut out the lap dance for the next chapter (; *
A day early AYO!
Word Count- 2,620
“Aloha we are now landing in Daniel K. Inouye International Airport the current time is 12:47 PM, it is 84 degrees fahrenheit with about 9 miles per hour winds. It is another sunny day on the beautiful Island of Oahu. Enjoy your honeymoon Mr and Mrs Raeken.” The pilot on the private jet announced I squealed looking out the window to see the beautiful stretch of the beaches as the waves met the shore
“It’s beautiful.” I gasped looking out the jet window Theo laced his fingers with mine brining my hand up to his lips kiss the back of my hand as we prepared for landing.
Once the plane landed I waited for the jet door to open revealing sunny blue skies “Aloha, welcome to Honolulu.” a lady greeted as she held something with flowers in her hands. She walked up to Theo and I and placed them around our necks they were called ‘Lei’s’ and placed a beautiful pink flower behind my left ear “Remember to place the flower on your left because it signifies that you’re married.” I nodded as a rental car pulled up as Theo led me to the car.
We pulled up to a beautiful beach house “Theo it’s gorgeous!” I opened the car door getting out to wait by the front door “Theo! Hurry!” I urged as I placed my hand on the doorknob pulling it down “(Y/N) you pack too many clothes and only use a third of them.” Theo complained as he got it the luggage out of the car I rushed over to him to take the car keys and the house keys I flew the door opened and gasped “Theo! Hurry in hurry!” It was opened to the back with the view of the ocean and a huge pool. Theo walked in grunting as he walked in dragging the suit cases I turned on my heels and gave Theo a hug “Thank you.” I mumbled as Theo wrapped his arms around my waist “Of course princess, anything for you.” I pulled back to place a kiss on his cheek “Hurry! I wanna go get lunch!” I squealed heading up the stairs “Princess you’re forgetting something.” I stopped mid-way up the stairs as Theo looked at the suit cases then at me “Awe, you’re strong you got this hubby.” I said with sarcasm as I continued my way upstairs.

Lifeas(Y/N)- Honeymoon vibez 🍯🌙
We arrived at a place called ‘Pā’ina Cafe’ cute and small famous for their poke and I love sushi so I already know I’m gonna LOVE this place. “Hi welcome to Pā’ina Cafe.” the worker said behind the counter “Hi can I get a two large spicy ahi bowls and two waters.” the worker nodded “It’ll be $19.95″ Theo placed a twenty and placed the coins in the tip bottle along with two dollars. Once we got our order we decided to eat outside since it was so sunny out.
“I don’t understand your love for sushi.” Theo mumbled with a mouthful of food causing me to giggle “Me? Look at you! Manner’s Theodore chew with your mouth closed.” I joked as Theo threw me a playful glare I kicked his calf playfully Theo grabbed some of the napkins towards me as I giggled at his actions “Are you ready for desert? We can go back to the beach house and swim.” I nodded finishing what ever I had left in the bowl.
We headed into Waikiki and stopped over at a desert place called Shimazu Shave Ice, and let me tell you the shave ice was HUGE for a large and quite affordable we waited in line as I looked up at the endless flavors for the shave ice. Theo glanced at her and smirked as her nose scrunched reading the flavors he leaned down to place a kiss on her cheek causing (Y/N) to lose her train of thought “Huh?” I asked confusingly “Get whatever flavor you want I’ll share it with you.” I smiled leaning up to kiss Theo’s cheek “Next, hi may I take your order.” a lady in her mid fifties said behind the counter “Hi can we get a large vanilla, blue cotton candy and french vanilla with condense milk?” The women nodded behind the counter “That’ll be $5.00″ I handed her a twenty “Keep the change.” I smiled as she gave Theo and I a warm smile “Are you two on your honeymoon?” she asked as I looked down at my left hand “Yeah we are.” Theo answered placing a kiss on the crown of my head “Awe how sweet, and it’s great that you chose Hawaii great weather all year long.” I smiled “Yeah it’s been a dream and on my bucket list to come to Hawaii.” she smiled “I hope you enjoy your stay on this beautiful Island! Here’s your shave ice.” Theo took it from her thanking her as she went outside to eat the shave ice.
I laid on the beach chair waiting for Theo to come down and rub some sunscreen on my back “Okay where’s the sun screen.” I looked up to see Theo with blue swim trunks with seahorses cauisng me to laugh “Love the trunks.” I said sarcastically Theo laughed dryly “I’ll leave you to burn in the sun.” I handed him the sunscreen as he began to massage it into my back.
TheoRaeken

TheoRaeken- Wifey 💍
I swam over to Theo wrapping my arms around his neck “Thank you.” I whispered causing Theo to show off his beautiful pearly white teeth “Of course, you deserve a honeymoon.” I smiled peppering kisses all over his face causing Theo to smile he lifted me up into the air spinning me around causing me to giggle “Theo!” I squealed as he placed me back into the water kissing me sweetly. My heart fluttered, this is the first time this happened first time. Usually when Theo kisses me I don’t feel anything but now... now it felt like fireworks. As cliche as it sounds it’s true I pulled back my eyes fluttered open to meet Theo’s beautiful blue eyes I smirked to myself pushing him down into the water yep I ruined the moment. “(Y/N)!” Theo screamed as he wrapped his arm around my waist pulling me into the water I swam up to the surface not long after Theo stood behind me wrapping his arms around my waist resting his chin on my shoulder “Let’s go to the edge.” he whispered I pulled away to look at him “Theo you know I’m short right?” I turned around to wrap my arms loosely around his neck “Well, I’ll carry you there.” Theo answered lifting me over his shoulder “Theo!” I squealed, once we were near the edge Theo placed me down gently into the water his arms tightened around my waist.
Silence filled the air, a good silence. The sound of the waves were calming standing here with Theo, my best friend... I married my best friend and here we are on our honeymoon. I never imagined myself here with Theo, the thought never crossed my mind but we’d be married for a year unless we develop feelings for each other. But one thing that I’ve been thinking about is, having kids. Being the only one out of the girls to not have children is kinda sad to me because honestly I treat them as if they’re my own... should I tell Theo? Should I use the gift Lydia gave me?
Lydia walked in with a Victoria’s Secret bags “I come bearing gifts!” she squealed dropping the bags down on my bed “Why?” I questioned looking at her with a confused expression “Duh for your honeymoon.” she pulled out a few kimonos that were satin then a few babydoll dresses “Lydia how much did you spend.” I grabbed one of the babydoll dresses that were a dark iron color a slit ran up the side and the coverage for the chest was lace it was quite beautiful “Uh about $500.” she shrugged taking out the rest of the items from the bag I gasped “Lydia Martin Stilinski! Why!” I questioned placing the dress onto the bed Lydia shrugged “Because I want a godson or goddaughter.. use any of these trust me it works.” my mouth gaped open “You want me to conceive a child in one of these things? Oh my don’t tell me that’s how you ended up pregnant with Allison.” Lydia began to chuckle “Yes that’s exactly how, now pack all of these beauties into that suitcase of yours.
“Hey, what are you thinking about?” Theo questioned I sighed turning around to sit on the ledge I fiddled with my ring “Do you think I’ll be a good mom?” one fear that I hate to come true is to be like my mother. She was never in my life and I wouldn’t want to miss any moment in my children’s life. “(Y/N) baby... you’d be a great mother. I know you’re greatest fear is you’ll become your mother but you won’t I’ve seen the way you look at Caleb and Cole. I know it may have crossed your mind to have kids, I would be lying if I said it never crossed my mind.”  did he just say what I think he said? “Theo.” I whispered “(Y/N) I think.. I think we should give this marriage a shot. If you want to.” Theo scratched the back of his nape looking down shyly. I cupped his cheeks so that he was looking at me I pulled him down slightly to kissing him sweetly “I’d love too.”
Theo’s Outfit & Reader’s Outfit
“Theo are you sure you know where you’re going?” I questioned looking up from my phone every so often looking at the surroundings “Yes, we’ll be there in about five minutes.” I chuckled remembering when he said that the last time “Last time you told me we’re five to our destination we were an hour in traffic on our way to disneyland.” Theo laughed dryly “That was one time and we took the long way.” which was true he told me we’ll be there in five minutes more like fifty five minutes. “We’re here.” Theo announced getting out of the car to come to my side of the car “Told yah.” Theo said proudly as he helped me out of the car leading up to the dirt path.
These food truck had the BEST garlic shrimp “This is sooo good.” I said with a mouthful causing Theo to chuckle he pulled out his phone and began taking pictures “Theo!” I reached forward to grab his phone Theo quickly placed it back in his pocket he grabbed my hand and kissed the back of it “Hush princess.” Theo smirked.
Our next stop was Dole Plantation and we’d head back to the beach house in time for dinner. The thing about Dole Plantation was there’s a maze and one thing I hate are mazes, but knowing Theo he’s competitive and would want to race to see who finishes first. We both stood outside the maze a lump began to form in my throat causing me to swallow hard “Ready?” Theo questioned with a smirk, nope not ready not even closer “Loser buys the ice cream.” Theo headed to the left as I stood there hesitant as I slowly made my way to the right.
“Stay calm and just find your way out” I reminded myself each turn I made was either a dead end or lead to a dead end “Theo?” I screamed as I felt my head begin to spin “Theo! I wanna leave you win! I just wanted ice cream!” my vision began to blur as I looked around to see no one near me “Theo!” I screamed as I felt fresh salty tears slip down my cheeks I began to walk backwards till I hit something hard thinking it was the bushes till it went “Boo.” and last time I checked bushes can’t talk. I screamed turning around ready to hit whatever it was I backed into to till the thing I bumped into was Theo “You! I want to leave I just wanted ice cream.” I mumbled placing my sunglasses on my nose to hide the fact that I had been crying “Princess I’m-” I turned to look at Theo “No I just wanted ice cream but now I want to leave.” Theo nodded his gaze fixed towards the ground leading us out.
*Third person P.O.V*
The drive back was silent music played softly in the background shared glances here and there but no one spoke. Eventually (Y/N) fell asleep thirty minutes into the car ride Theo glanced at her every so often to make sure she was okay. Once he reached the beach house he went out to unlock the door and went back to the car to carry (Y/N) out. Once he placed her on their shared bed he removed her shoes and placed the covers over her body, Theo left he placed a kiss on her forehead he had got up to leave till (Y/N) grabbed his wrist “Stay, just sleep with me.” she mumbled snuggling into the pillow as Theo kicked off his shoes “Don’t sleep for too long, I wanted to take you out to dinner.” Theo mumbled snuggling closer to (Y/N). Her eyes fluttered open slightly to meet Theo’s eyes “You don’t need to take me out to dinner.” she snuggled closer to him “I’m sorry I overreacted.” Theo glanced down at (Y/N) and smiled “Princess I should be the one saying sorry, but I wanted to take you out to dinner.” he whined causing (Y/N) to shake her head “No, I just want to have dinner in please?” Theo gave her a small nod his eyes fluttering shut as they both fell asleep in each other’s arms.
(Y/N) sat on the couch changing the channels as Theo was busy cooking dinner, she felt the couch dip as Theo let out a sigh “Dinner is in the oven.” (Y/N) smirked to herself as she moved to straddle Theo lap as his hands flew to her waist “Wanna make out like horny teenager?” her arms rested loosely around his neck as she played with the his short brown locks “Well aren’t you straight forward?” (Y/N) rolled her eyes playfully as she leaned in closer her lips ghosting over his “So is that a yes or a no?” Theo closed the small gap between them as their lips moved in sync (Y/N) began to move her hips against his at a slow pace. Theo licked the bottom of her lips a few times (Y/N) decided to bite his bottom lip pulling back a little as Theo changed their positions so that (Y/N) under him “Bad kitten.” Theo’s voice was raspy as (Y/N) tried to catch her breath Theo kissed her harshly as he licked the bottom of her lip a few times causing (Y/N) to part them slightly as their tongues fought for dominance which Theo won. Just then the timer went off causing Theo to pull away breathlessly “Dinner time.”
Theo and (Y/N) sat on the lounge chair as they watched the sunset “Thank you for this honeymoon Theo.” she leaned forward to place a kiss on his cheek “No problem princess anything for you.” Theo placed both their plates of lasagna on the ground as (Y/N) moved to lay against Theo’s body her back pressed against his chest. Theo placed a kiss on her exposed shoulder as ocean breeze filled the air as they watched the sun go down.
Best honeymoon ever.

JJ stayed with you into the evening to make sure you were safe.
“This is still my fault,” you said quietly, curled up on a single chair in your living room.
“Y/N, don’t. You had no idea.”
“But I’m a profiler, JJ, I should’ve seen the lies in that girl. I should’ve paid attention when Spencer said her name was different in the jail. I shouldn’t have just taken her word when Cassie appeared missing--”
She stopped you. “Hey, you didn’t know any of this would happen. Often times, we fail to see what’s right in front of us because we’re too close to the situation.”
“How can he ever forgive me? If Diana dies--” You choked on the lump in your throat before swallowing it. “If Diana dies, it’ll destroy him. He won’t want anything to do with me. He’ll blame me and he should.”
“Hey, if I know Spence, I know he would never hold you accountable.”
 “But he should,” you countered.
“Why are you punishing yourself this way?” JJ asked.
 “I don’t know. I just… I won’t forgive myself if anything happens to her.”
 “We will find her.”
Just then, your phone rang, it was Emily and the team.
“Good news, bad news,” she announced through your speaker phone.
 “What’s that?” you asked.
“I’m on the books first thing tomorrow with Judge Frost and AUSA Martinez.”
“But all we have is a theory, and no support from the brass.”
“That’s never stopped us before,” Emily reminded, and a small, tiny, flicker of hope ignited in your chest.
“So we have 12 hours to make an airtight case for you to bring them,” JJ surmised as her eyes flashed to yours.
“Yes, not only that, but we also need a paper trail.”
Rossi mentioned coffee and you sprang from your seat like your ass was on fire.
“What are you doing?” JJ wondered.
You slipped on your hoodie and grabbed your purse. “I’m going to save my husband from that bitch. You coming?”
She nodded and made a face of approval and you jumped in the car and floored it to the office. You arrived in PJs with JJ on your heels.
“Where do we start?” you demanded as you walked in and dropped your purse.
“You sure you’re up for this?” Rossi asked. “You need rest…”
“I need my husband home,” you countered, already opening files. If it were you, he wouldn’t stop until you were home and that’s what you planned to do for him.
“Y/N, could you come with me?” Emily asked politely. You stood and followed her to her office, where Garcia was sitting.
“Hey, mama bear,” she greeted as she hugged you, looking upset, but you kept quiet.
“Were you able to get Lindsey’s files from WITSEC?” Emily questioned.
“I’m close but I need more time,” Garcia told her.
 “Garcia, what’s wrong?” Em asked.
“Reid stabbed himself to get into solitary confinement,” she explained. Your hands flew to your mouth as you gasped.
“What?! He did what?!” you said.
“Oh, that’s great,” Emily said with a sigh of relief.
“How is that good?!” you demanded, shrieking.
“Well, he found a way to isolate himself,” she tried.
“My husband just stabbed himself and you think it’s great? Are you insane?”
 “I know it’s not ideal--”
“Not ideal? No, Emily it’s a fucking catastrophe.”
“And here’s this,” Garcia added, handing an envelope to Emily.
 “What’s that?” you asked.
“It’s my letter of resignation,” she informed both of you.
“Oh, honey,” you crouched next to her. “You don’t have to do that.”
But she was already shaking her head. “If Reid dies, I quit,” she countered, firmly.
“We won’t let that happen,” Emily vowed.
You nodded. “Garcia, come on. It’s me. It’s gummy bear, you think I’m going to let a psychopathic son of a bitch take Spencer away from me?”
“He already has. You don’t go see him any more. You’re mad at each other. He’s already winning. Reid is almost killing himself, just to keep himself safe.”
The truth of her words stung deeper than you ever thought they would. Because she was right. You’d let Lindsey and Scratch win. You let them tear your family apart.
“No one knows more than me how dire and upsetting this is,” you said.
“I’m exhausted. If Reid dies, I know that you’ll be right behind him to leave,” she informed and the silence from you confirmed that as you flashed a guilty look to Emily. “This whole thing is breaking me. I can’t watch you be in any more pain, I can’t have the people I love be distressed…And this whole year has been a roller coaster, and every time something happens, a little piece of me is chipped away. And if one more thing happens, I don’t think there’s going to be anything left.”
“Then I support your decision,” you said finally after some silence had settled in the room.
 “What?” Emily demanded softly.
“She’s right, Em. This job...it wears on you. In three months, I think I’ve started to grow gray hairs. Every time I’m out in the field with Spence, I’m terrified. So if she feels like she needs to leave, I get it.”
 “Thank you,” she said softly.
“Alright. Well let’s make sure we get Reid home safe.”
Emily grabbed the papers and files and brought them into the conference room as you joined everyone.
 “We leave no stone unturned.”
“And if I find out you did, I’ll have your head on a platter,” you threatened to everyone. Everyone nodded and got to work.
-------------
About an hour in, Tara said, “Hey, guys. Okay. I got Carol Atkinson crossing the border in Los Indios.”
And like that, life was breathed back into you.
“There’s a factory nearby that manufactures non-FDA-approved seasickness tablets, essentially, scopolamine pills.”
 Thank the heavens above.
“Los Indios is only a 40 minute drive from Matamoros,” Luke added.
“Looks like we’ve got Lindsey where we need her,” Rossi informed, a warm smile on his face as he looked at you.
“Now we put the knife in her hand,” Emily instructed.
Hours drug on as you continually looked through the papers, fighting the sleep that begged for you to take it. You couldn’t have coffee because of the baby either, so it was all you, all will power.
The flicker of hope was burning inside you but Emily was meeting in just an hour and you needed more proof, now.
JJ found that Jack’s gun was used the day before Nadie’s murder. Deliberation went around the table about it, and it was discovered that it was Lindsey’s bullet. More questioning flew around as you were trying to keep up, but this pregnancy was making you exhausted. Luke spoke up and said that there was an abandoned truck found by Mexican authorities that matched Spence’s description, that was dumped 2 states over and it belonged to Victor Flores.
You didn’t want to be a party pooper, but you were a realist. “Okay, this is great, everyone. But...isn’t this all circumstantial?”
“She’s right,” Emily agreed. “Garcia, any luck finding Lindsey’s prints from her WITSEC file?”
“I called in every favor I can think of and then some. It’s gonna take me like five more hours to cut through this red tape.”
 ----------
Emily was about to leave when you said you wanted to go with her.
“I need to be there. I want to fight that son of a bitch prosecutor,” you said, clenching your fist.
“Which is why you won’t be there. Y/N, you’re an amazing agent, and usually, you’re well composed, but so far, when it comes to Spence, you’re too...emotional,” she countered. “It would be best if I went, on my own, as an agent.”
“Okay, you’re right. But you call me as soon as you hear something,” you demanded.
“You know I will.” She hugged you and left.
You waited in the conference room at work as everyone sat tensely, awaiting the call with some sort of news.
“While we have a few moments, I just want you all to know it means the world to me that you all have worked on this case for hours, when you’re exhausted.”
“Hey, you’re family,” Rossi said as he rubbed your back.
“I know but...still...this wasn’t easy, it was exhausting, daunting, and frustrating and my hormonal ass didn’t make it any better.” You laughed, for what seemed like the first time in ages.
“Even if we get Spence out though, we’re not out of the woods yet. We need to find Diana,” you reminded.
 “And we will,” Walker promised.
 “I know…”
Your phone rang and you picked it up faster than anyone could blink.
“I talked to Judge Frost. She’s exonerated him, you can go get him from the prison.”
“Oh my god!” you screamed as you jumped up and everyone jumped in fright. “Emily, thank you. Oh my god. Thank you.”
You hung up and you were so excited, you weren’t even thinking as you started to jog out of the office in your pajamas, looking like shit.
“Y/N, wait!” Rossi said as the whole crew trailed you. “What’s going on?”
“He’s been released!” you shouted happily as you threw your arms around Rossi.
“I’m coming with you,” JJ said and Garcia joined her.
They let you drive and finally, after going in, telling them you were there for your husband, you waited a few minutes before they let you go back. You were so giddy and excited, all of the past grudges evaporated. You nearly ran to the room they escorted you to.
They opened the door to expose your husband looking ragged.
“Spence! You get to come home!” you nearly screamed as you ran to him, jumped in his arms, and wrapped your legs around his waist. You kissed him hard as he started to cry. Finally, someone else was doing the crying.
“Thank God you’re okay,” he breathed as he held you tightly to him. “I was so worried.”
“I’m fine, I’m fine. Let’s just get you out of here.”
You tightly held his hand as they gave him his clothes back which was a suit and it looked amazing on him. You walked him out to Garcia who hugged him tightly.
“Let’s go get my mom,” he said.
You drove to the office, holding his hand, and relishing in his touch. You hadn’t had it in so long, it was starting to be hard to remember what he felt like. He stared at you the entire time, smiling, as JJ and Garcia sat in the back, giving you two space.
“I’m so sorry,” he said quietly. “I didn’t want to see that video because I knew it would make me realize what I was missing, and I guess I couldn’t handle that.”
“I know...I know it had to be hard on you. I’m sorry for abandoning you. I should’ve never done that.”
“No, you should have. It made me realize what you were dealing with too. I was selfishly thinking of what I had to go through, but it didn’t dawn on me what you were being put through as well. It made me appreciate you so much more.”
 “And...Diana? Are you upset?”
“I’m upset she’s missing, but if you’re asking if I blame you, no. I can’t possibly do that. You couldn’t help it.”
“But I let her in the house. Cassie’s dead...That’s on me,” you started, before tears began to fall.
“Hey,” he said, reaching over and wiping the tear off your cheek. “No, you had no idea who she was or what she was doing.”
 “Thank you...I love you.”
“I love you too,” he quietly responded before kissing your hand.
------------
You made it back to the office where they filled him in on all the details and found a house in Southeast D.C. that Lindsey was working out of. Everyone set out to leave before Emily blocked Spencer.
“Spencer, I can’t let you go officially until you’re reinstated. But you can go back home…”
He understood and he took a step forward but stopped.
“Babe? You okay?” you questioned until you noticed the door was closed and your heart suddenly felt cold. “It’s...uh, it’s unlocked.”
“Of course,” Spence said as he went forward and you grabbed his hand, never wanting to be away from him.
JJ, you, and Spence went home, to see if he noticed anything unordinary. He immediately noticed a scrapbook on the coffee table.
“Y/N, did you open this?” he asked.
“No, why? What’s wrong? I just assumed Diana was flipping through it.”
“This picture was on a different page,” he stated. He flipped over the picture and XX - XY were on the back of it.
 “Is that significant?” you questioned.
“Other than the obvious of male and female chromosomes. Lindsey’s way of telling me she’s with Scratch.”
A few minutes later, Spencer got a call and he put it on speaker.
“Reid, listen to me, it wasn’t Scratch,” Emily’s voice sounded through the phone.
 “What?” he questioned.
“It was Cat Adams. She gave us a video. You have to go see her.”
 “In prison?” you asked.
“Yes. She said she will tell you where your mother is.”
“I have to go,” he informed, already on the move before you grabbed his arm.
“Woah, slow down, cowboy. You want to walk right back into prison? You want to walk into a trap?”
“Y/N, I have to get my mom back,” he said.
“I know that but...I just got you back,” you retorted, your voice breaking as tears started to flow.
“And you’ll be with me. It’s a women's prison. Nothing bad will happen,” he promised before kissing your head.
“Are you sure you’re ready for this? Cat? Your mom? Me?”
“Yes, I am sure,” he vowed.
“If you think you’re ready, I’m with you all the way.”
Emily informed you of your flight plans and JJ, you, and Spence took off. Emily asked that JJ be there as a neutral party. Before long, you were at the correctional facility.

There was praying, crying, and shouting. Her family expression the cacophony of emotions that he first felt when he laid eyes on her. Masashi stood holding his son’s hand, watching in the doorway, as his in-laws swarmed his wife. “Daddy, why is everyone crying?” “Everyone loves and misses Mommy. It’s been a long time since she’s been home.” Kouhei let go of his hand, choosing instead to hide behind his leg. “Hey,”- Masashi knelt down to meet his son at eye level. “It’s okay. Everyone will love you too. Let’s go give Mommy a break.” Lifting Kouhei onto his hip, he joined his in-laws. Placing his free hand on her waist, he almost chuckled when she looked up at him. That look was so _________ as she begged him with her eyes to rescue her. His poor wife must be so overwhelmed, and he was not the type of man to ignore his wife’s pleas.
“Why don’t we get out of the doorway. The neighbors will get curious soon,” Masashi said kindly. “Oh!” Her mother was the first to notice. The seven of them were still crammed awkwardly in the foyer. It was almost comical at how everyone had tried to hug her all at once. Her mother hastily wiped her tears with the back of her hand as she gave them a watery smile. “Look at us, climbing all over you the moment you get here. You must be hungry. I’ll go heat up lunch. Dai, go get your sister a snack. Honey, stop covering your face. Look at your daughter! Grandma, we’ll all pray together later! Sit down and rest that hip.” Her mother’s voice lacked Several pairs of feet disappeared to obey orders, leaving behind her father who was still scrubbing his tears away. “Masashi you brought our baby home.” Between his tears, her father clapped him on the shoulder. “We can’t thank you enough. About last time--” Masashi shook his head to stop his father-in-law. “Water under the bridge Dad.” “Right. Good man. Now let me get a look at you.” Her father took her face in his hands, tear filled eyes taking in every feature as if he was trying to sear the image into his mind. “You’re really home,” voice cracking, he crushed his child to his chest. When he finally pulled away, he held her at arm’s length, taking a good look at her again. “Come in, your mother made all your favorites as soon as Masashi called. Ah, who’s this?” he asked, finally noticing the child on Masashi’s hip. “This is our son, Kouhei. Kouhei will you say hi to Grandpa?” Masashi encouraged, bouncing his boy in an effort to get him to look at his grandfather. “Hi,” their five year old mumbled into Masashi’s shirt. “Sorry, he’s feeling shy,” _________ stepped in, and Kouhei gladly reached for his mother. “Ah, sorry about that. We’re quite the noisy lot. Must’ve scared him,” her father scratched his head laughing. “We’ll let’s get you all fed. Your mother won’t be happy unless all plates are clean.”
--
After seven long years, the _________  family sat complete in their home: grandmother, parents, and children, and the children of those children. Their loss wasn’t a figment of someone’s imagination. It was physical. The loss ravaging their home, like a reaper. The lines on her parents faces were deeper. Her grandmother’s health weaker. For their remaining child, the loss was like a plastic bag over his face, suffocating.
Daisuke, too had loved his older sister, and he helplessly watched their parents fall apart with each day. Their mother stopped laughing, their father taking to bed days at a time, and he tried to hold it all together with snapping threads. Hope was a delicate thing. He, like Masashi, had stood on the side of that road where his sister disappear. For hours at end, he stopped driver after driver, passing out flyers, asking if they had been there that day, looking for that spark of hope. But each ‘no’ felt more crushing. The words stomping on his very spirit. Cracking him, breaking him. For years, his life revolved around keeping his family together. While his classmates had reached for the stars, finding their dream jobs, he had chosen to find local employment. And when they celebrated their university graduation, he was digging his father out of an alcoholic stupor. Countless endless yelling matches to keep his father from drinking himself into an early grave. “Who will look for Sis if you don’t!” “Dai she’s gone! Your sister’s dead! She’s not coming back! At least let me keep her company! She’s lonely. She’s crying! My baby needs me!” “What about Mom? You’re just going to leave her like that?!” “I failed her anyway! No parent is supposed to bury their child!” “Stop talking like Sis is dead!” “She’s gone! And you need to accept it!” “She’s out there! Masashi still believes she’s alive!” “That man let your sister die alone!” “You are not going to find Sis at the bottom of a bottle! Is this how you want her to see you?!” “She can’t! She can’t! She can’t see us anymore,” their father wailed, dissolving into body wrenching sobs.
It seemed like no amount of rhyme or reason would stop their father from blacking out night after night. When did another visit to the police box or the hospital become normal? When would alcohol poisoning finally end it?
It took their mother’s attempted suicide. Their father quit drinking altogether, trying to hold it together to see beyond his own grief to his family. It wasn’t easy nor was it quick, but it was necessary.
Then it was the two of them, standing on the side of that road rain or shine, hoping for this day to come. Today was the day Daisuke thought his family would never see. It didn’t matter that his sister didn’t remember them. It didn’t matter that it took seven years. The only thing that mattered to their family is that she was here. Alive and well, sitting with their mother and grandmother as they tearfully looked over photo albums. Their father sitting on the floor with his nephew as they tried to play a game together on a table. A warm hand in his stopped him brought him out from his thoughts. “You’re crying,” a soft feminine voice said. Daisuke hastily dashed them away with the back of his hand. “Your nose is red too.” Daisuke smile as he took the proffered tissue. “Thanks.” “It’s nice to see your parents smile like that.”’ “Yea.” Daisuke squeezed her hand, running his thumb over her wedding band. And she was his miracle.
----
Night fell like any other day despite the miracle that one family experienced earlier.
Back at the Himuro apartment, all the lights were out except for a single lamp and the hallway night light. Their son was fast asleep across the hall, Between his recent surgery and all of today’s excitement, Kouhei’s eyes were closed before his head hit the pillow. His wife on the other hand was strung as tight as a bowstring in his arms. Her face buried in his chest as they laid in bed. “Are you alright?” Masashi asked as he ran his hands up and down her back.
By the time they came back from a very late lunch, all of Kouhei’s furniture had been waiting for them. The painters had come and gone, and so with some hired help, their little family went about setting up Kouhei’s room. The nursery that once was the manifestation of his guilt was now proof of their perseverance. But with Kouhei there, they say more about the elephant in the room.
It had been a lot for her to take in, and she had done wonderfully. His in-laws happier than he’s seen them in years. He had been so ecstatic to have her back in his arms that he didn’t consider her feelings. He couldn’t be prouder of her, but it didn’t replace the lost lifetime.
When he pulled away to get a better look of her face, his chest tighten. All the unsaid words that were etched in her furrowed brow. With gentle hands, he brushed against the lines on her face, hoping for the muscles to relax. The look in her eye broke his heart. He would move heaven and earth to make it go away. But if it was his fault… Masashi’s thoughts started to drift before he caught himself.
“I’m here for you,” he said instead. “No matter what.” He smiled for her. The small hands that were clenched at his shirt slowly released. “That’s what I’m afraid of.” “Why -” he stopped when the first tear drop fell. “_________…” his voice was painfully soft when he said her name as he braced himself for what was to come. “I’m happy here.” Relief flooded him at her words. The breath he held came out in a whoosh. “Kouhei’s so happy. He already loves you.” “That’s a good thing,” he smiled weakly as he brushed her tears away. “No you don’t understand.” She pushed against his chest, pulling herself out of his arms. It took every ounce of self control he had as he fought to keep from taking her back. She needed her space.
“I’m listening,” he said his voice patient. “This life, you, that family. That’s not me. I’m not your wife.” “_________…” The knot in his throat kept him from screaming out his denial. “I’m an imposter. None of this is me.” “That’s not true,” he refuted without hesitation. “You’re overwhelmed. I understand that.” “No you don’t Masashi. Your wife. She was a cop. She had a family who loved her. She brought criminals to justice. She built a life with you. Me?  I’m just a single mom trying to make things work.” “You’re not “just” anything. If you don’t want to be a cop, that’s fine. There’s nothing that says you have to be a cop.” “No you don’t understand,” she said vehemently, pushing away his hands. “I’m not her. I don’t know what she liked, what she did, how you met. None of that’s there.” “That doesn’t matter to me.” “It matters to me! This isn’t my life.” “_________ don’t do this.” He grabbed her shoulders. “Calm down.” “Let me go! I’m not your wife.” “Even if you weren’t my wife, I’d still feel the same.” He couldn’t help but remember the divorce papers that still sat in his desk.
“Look at me,” he shook her a little, waiting for her eyes to focus again. He gaze held her as he willed her to pay attention.
“You are you. This is your kindness and your strength.” He paused. Masashi was not a man of many words, but he would give her as many as she needed. He would make his wife feel safe again.
“The way you are with our son,” he continued. “It means everything. Everything else is window dressing. We can make more memories. And if you decide you want to know about our past, I’ll tell you. If you don’t want it, then we can forget it, but I want us. I need you.” His roughed fingertips caressed her face.
“Be honest. What do you want?” “Masashi…” She reached out for him, and he didn’t hesitate. “But the crying is quite troubling,” he admitted. He was rewarded with a watery laugh. “You were the one that told me I didn’t need to be strong.” “That’s what I said.” She only laughed again, and Masashi smiled. The storm had passed.
He held her until the tears subsided. By the time they did, both of them were wide awake. She curled up against him, her head pillowed on his arm. Idly, his other hand toyed with the ends of her hair. “What about my family?” “I’ll go with you to explain. We’ll take care of it together.” “Kouhei’s not done with school yet.” “That’s not a problem. I can wait,” he said matter-of-factly. He had waited 7 years. What was a couple more months? “_________, tell me what is really worrying you.” “I’m scared. Everything’s happening so fast. My life is turning upside down.” “I’ll support you, no matter what you decide.”
“Crying again?” he blinked at her, slightly bewildered. “Yea that seems to keep happening tonight,” she smiled weakly, rubbing her eyes with the back of her hand. Leaning over, he gently kissed the tears away, one by one. Bitterness mixing with the sweet as he worked his way up her face before pressing a kiss to each eyelid. “_________,” her name soft on his lips. “Masashi.” When she gasped his name, her eyes half lidded, he didn’t think twice. The taste of her tears lingered in their chaste kiss, but when she parted her lips for him, he deepen it, pressing her into the bed. “I love you. Always you. Only you.”
Author’s Note: We are near the end of our time together with this couple. In the next and finale installment, we’ll be revisiting the Sato family again. I’d love to hear how you feel about them, and hope you’re excited to see the fate of our loving couple. Are you sad to see their story come to an end?
“To Be Continued” has been updating like a monthly serial, but you guys have been so wonderful to support me for so long. If Part 13 can collect 20 comments, I will post the finale then rather than at the end of April.
Hope to see you very soon!

Michelle Sweitzer - phaware® interview 298
In this episode, pulmonary hypertension patient, Michelle Sweitzer discusses her illness and why she chose to adopt.
My name is Michelle Sweitzer. My connection to PH started many years ago. I had a brother that was diagnosed when he was almost five and passed away shortly after. At that time, there was no treatments or anything like that. Then 11 years later, my dad was diagnosed, and as a result, the rest of my brothers and I all got tested to see if we had the disease. I had another brother that at that time was asymptomatic, but diagnosed, and myself and another brother of mine were not. We were fine at that moment, but later came to find out that when they said it's not the gene, that we in fact had BMPR2. So, with that, came different things that we needed to do to try to help if there was a way to keep the PH from activating, so to speak, being the triggers. One of those was pregnancy.
So, when I got married in 1989, my husband and I decided that pregnancy wasn't something we really wanted to venture into since we knew that it could cause the PH to onset in my body. So, we looked into adoption. We started as foster parents and adopted our first son in 1992, and he's now 33 years old. Then throughout our marriage, we had other foster kids. When we moved to Washington, we ended up being blessed with another little boy at 18 months old. He is now 11.
In the meantime, I was actually diagnosed two years ago with the disease, not from pregnancy, but I don't know what the trigger could have been, maybe stress or hormone changes in my body, I don't know. With that, I had to retire from teaching, although I do homeschool our son. God has blessed me with the privilege of being able to go to different pharmaceutical companies with my mom and share our story and give them the human perspective of why they sell the drugs and why it's so important to allow us to have life and better quality and longevity. I'm so thankful for that purpose.
When I first started meeting people with PH, when my dad had it and we started getting involved in support groups and going to conferences and things like that, you end up meeting a lot of different people with PH. I kept hearing over and over again that there were women that that got it when they got pregnant. So, right away [it] set in my mind this idea, goodness gracious, that could be a trigger for me. That could cause me to have PH. It was actually quite an emotional thing I needed to battle with inside. I was young then. I wasn't married at the time, but I was thinking I would love children. I went into the field of teaching and I had a degree in child development.
To know that I wasn't able to actually bear children just in case that might possibly onset the disease was trying. It was tough. It led me through a lot of different times of having to just really be on my knees in prayer and just asking God why or what is it that I can do, obviously definitely moments of sadness. I kind of had to work through that loss of that idea that I couldn't do that. And that if I did what the repercussions would be, not necessarily even just me dying, because I knew where I was going to go, but that would be leaving my husband having to raise a child on his own. That was definitely not something that I wished on anybody.
Even though it was a difficult decision, it was a decision that I felt was the best. As I processed through it more and more, I realized there's a huge need out there for parents. There's a huge need for the kids that need a place to call home. They need a mother and a father [because they] don't have one. Or they don't have ones that are taking care of them properly. That was a need that we could fill. So, it actually gave me more hope and excitement knowing that, gosh, we could make a difference in these child's lives.
When you give birth, you don't have a choice of what child you have and I imagine it must be this amazing blessing of this child that God has blessed you with and as a part of yourself. But when you adopt or you foster kids who you actually are making that choice to take in a child and to give them love and to give them a family. [You] help them know, that regardless of their circumstances or what may have happened to them or what they're feeling, that there are people that do love them and are going to be there for them and help them through life. In a weird kind of way, it actually ended up being a huge joyous thing to be able to be foster parents and to adopt these two boys. It's a huge blessing even though it started off as a feeling of almost a curse, but it wasn't.
Now at this point, (I mean) it was only diagnosed two years ago, so there are so many medications out there. It's really a good time, per se, to be diagnosed, because there are so many different options out there. Whereas, if I had gotten pregnant earlier and had had the disease earlier, I don't know that I would have had that much hope at that point. There weren't that many choices of medication. In fact, when my dad was first diagnosed, there weren't any. There was just one that was experimental that he was able to get on. They gave him 13 years, which was awesome. But there was nothing for my youngest brother available at all. My middle brother, he caught the disease as a result of pneumonia. It onset and it hit too hard and there was nothing he could do. There weren't that many medications at that time either. I feel really thankful. I think it was the right decision, because I feel like I probably would have onset if I did get pregnant, which could have created all kinds of problems and not [be] as hopeful as it is now to have the disease.
Everybody has their own feelings about it. For some women, that's been their dream of to be a mom and wanting to have their own child. Most people that I've talked to haven't really grieved through that process of loss of not being able to have that. They're so overwhelmed, because they're newly diagnosed that they can't see beyond that loss.
I’ve tried to encourage them that with my story, just [to] say there are so many kids are out there, there's so many other possibilities. Yes it is a lot, but you could be helping so many other kids and your life could still be complete. You could have this child to have a complete family where you feel like you are a family, you have these children that you're able to love unconditionally and that love you back unconditionally. That that's still an option for you. I know other people that have also done this. They have adopted. It's been a process for them, but they're thankful too.
I know a gal that she was actually really young when she was diagnosed. When she got to getting married and then an age where she wanted to have kids, she was already diagnosed. [She] knew that wasn't something she wanted to do because it could have actually terminated her life with a baby. So, it wasn't even an issue for her, because she had all those years to process it. She just immediately went after she got married into the adoption process. Now she has two little boys she's adopted.
I think it's hard for some women to be able to let go of that dream of having your own child. I think when they do, look at a bigger picture and realize even though one dream might end, another one can begin. There are other doors that can be opened and other possibilities that your "traditional" family doesn't need to be a [naturally born] child. It could be one that you've adopted and still be an amazing family that way. I know this disease is hard and I know that there are challenges. I know that it's sad that you're not able to give birth naturally to a child and that's okay. It's okay to feel loss and it's okay to be sad about that. But don't stay there. Don't stay in that spot. Try to look at a bigger picture and to make the most of your life, including children. If that's something that you and your husband decide, that’s something you want to do. The need is great and you can be extremely blessed by going down that route. Don't give up hope. There are other things that you can do in life that can help you to feel fulfilled.
My name is Michelle Sweitzer and I aware that I am rare.
