My brain refuses to sleep, so more drabbling! Probably modern-ish AU?
Steve makes a career for himself as a re-decorator (or de-decorator, as he loves to call himself). His clientele are those celebrities who rose to fame so quickly they have plenty of money, but they don't have time to make their houses feel like home. They just bought penthouses and mansions and now live in homes that are fancy, but they feel like hotels.
Steve is there to fix that.
One of his clients is the hard working rockstar Eddie Munson whose life path went from a trailer park to couch surfing to living with 4 people in a tiny apartment, then suddenly tours, hotels and boom! He has a house that looks like an IKEA prop.
He doesn't hide his distaste at the pristine condition of the place (yes, Eddie has a cleaner). "Oh god. A beige carpet?" he scoffs and he sounds so bitchy Eddie decides he likes him already.
He likes him even more when Steve puts on reading glasses. Damn.
Over coffee, they discuss what Eddie wants. Except Steve doesn't just...tell him. He doesn't give him any hints. He just keeps asking about Eddie's favorite colors, what movies he likes, does he have hobbies apart from music? Can Steve see some of the items that bring him comfort?
And Eddie's surprised. "Shouldn't you, like...be telling me what I'm supposed to want?" he asks the gorgeous man who almost wails when he sees the vase with fresh flowers ("This is the third place in a row that has this fugly thing! Is it like a status symbol? Uh, tasteless.").
And Steve just stares at him. "Uh, Mr. Munson?"
"Eddie."
Steve nods. "Eddie. Why should I have any say in what you want? If you ask me what's practical, easy to clean, what bounces off light well, that's another thing. But in matters of taste...you're the boss. You live here, I don't. (Pity, Eddie thinks) Now, let's change this place into somewhere you actually like staying, hm?"
They spend the whole afternoon talking. Eddie opens up about what he loved before the touring and expectations from his agent took that from him. He talks about the Lord of the Rings, Dungeons and Dragons, fantasy in general, and Steve listens, makes tons of notes and asks questions that make Eddie's heart bleed, such as "and who is your favorite Lord of the Rings character?" and "you mentioned elves, dwarves, orcs, wizards...so what is your favorite group?" and "which DnD class would you be then? I guess a bard? Is that too obvious?". Now, Steve doesn't know much about these things, but learns quickly and works with the info he has.
They walk through the house again, with Steve making notes and wincing at transgressions against humanity or at least against his taste in things ("Oh ew. EW. Glossy finish on a kitchen counter? What is this, a future crime scene?") and Eddie feeling equally amused and curious. Eddie orders dinner for them, it goes something like:
"I don't know what would be appropriate, any preferences?"
"Eddie, there's no time or space when pizza is not appropriate."
"What about a funeral?"
"It puts fun in a funeral."
"Touché."
They follow up on a bunch more things. Steve notices Eddie fidgeting and asks him like the mindreader he is if perhaps the place is too clean for him. "Minimalism is what everyone's trying to push," Steve says, not without sympathy, "but it's not for everyone. I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but you seem like a person who'd love a more....personal, cluttered space."
And god, Eddie feels so seen. He tells Steve about all his favorite books and trinkets that he lost during a horrible earthquake in Indiana, so when he moved to the city it was just some clothes and his two guitars. Steve makes so many notes. "I've seen quite a lot of collectibles for your beloved trilogy," he says with a hint of a smile. "Is that something you'd like in your home?" Eddie can't nod any faster.
They talk about the budget (Eddie just scoffs at that, for the first time in his life money is not an issue), Eddie's absolute no go things ("No more vases, please! PLEASE. Also maybe the one room that can stay as it is is the studio, there's no decor"), if he has issues touching any materials, if he wants to keep any areas in the house neutral for visitors (he doesn't). Then finally, he asks Eddie if he wants to be more consulted or surprised.
And Eddie, tired and surprisingly relaxed from talking to Steve, just grins and says: "Surprise me, big boy."
Steve just smirks and makes one more note. "Oh, I will, Eddie."
...
Eddie goes on yet another tour for a couple of months, which is the ideal time for Steve to start working on the house.
Steve sometimes texts Eddie random choices, such as "Rohan or Gondor or both?" or "what's the best pub in the Middle Earth?" and Eddie usually trips over his feet trying to get to his phone after concerts to see if maybe he has another message from Steve. He learns bits and pieces about the man as well - he has a younger brother, Dustin, who is into the same stuff that Eddie is. Sometimes it goes like this:
STEVE: What's the best battle in the LotR movies?
EDDIE: The Ride of the Rohirrim, duh!
STEVE: Dustin says you're wrong, it's the last stand at the gates of Mordor.
EDDIE: The disrespect to king Théoden!
And finally, the big day comes. Eddie meets with Steve at the door. From the outside, the house still looks boring, but that's what they agreed on. At least for now.
But there's one notable difference and Eddie gasps when he sees it.
"I know we said no changes on the outside," said Steve sheepishly, "but I took the liberty to make one slight change."
Where the door used to be bland and white, it is now carved with silver etchings. It replicates the Doors of Durin. Eddie loves it.
Steve smiles at him. "Speak friend and enter, right? Dustin told me. Anyways, are you ready?"
Turns out, Eddie wasn't ready. Steve took all of the shiny and sterile surfaces and turned them into something beautiful.
The kitchen is now in warmer colors, brown and green, imitating the Green Dragon inn, plaque included.
Guest rooms have been changed, each to represent a group or a nation of the Middle Earth. Eddie thinks his uncle will love the Rohirrim one.
No more vases are to be seen, but Steve got potted plants ("almost immortal, as long as your housekeeper waters them once a week or so").
Eddie howls in laughter when he sees that Steve somehow managed to disguise all his security cameras as tiny eyes of Sauron.
The bathroom is inspired by the Rivendell, with soft tones and nods to Elvish architecture.
Eddie's bedroom resembles the Shire, with round shapes and homely motifs.
But Eddie's absolute favorite is the living room.
The only things that remain there that he bought are the massive TV and his stereo system with records. The rest though...
Gone is the ugly and sharp couch that looked like a geometry exercise. The new one is large and comfortable, with a couple of armchairs to finish the cozy feel. The coffee table and TV stand are more rough looking, with decorative ironwork. And then, around the room and on the walls...
"Oh wow," whispers Eddie and Steve beams at him.
There are collectibles and figurines that young Eddie Munson would have killed for. A replica of the Narsil hangs over the TV. It's cluttered but tasteful, still easy to clean, but Eddie always has something to touch, to play with.
And then he spots the bookcase and actually sobs. "What the fuck, Steve?" he asks, but there's no anger, just awe. "How did you know?"
The bookcase is full of Eddie's most beloved books, all that he told Steve about and more, but it's not just that. These aren't just pristine new prints - Steve managed to get both those and well-loved used copies. Most of them are the same editions that Eddie had before the earthquake. He runs his trembling finger over the back of the Hobbit and it feels like home.
"That was the hardest part," says Steve and leaves Eddie to rummage through the books, the old DnD guides and used comic books. "But I assumed you're sick of new and shiny. In fact, most of the collectibles are already used as well. They have some history. As for the books, uh..." He scratches his neck, embarrassed. "I will be honest, I don't read much. Dyslexia and some issues with the eyes, although audio books are making it more possible for me now. So I had to ask Dustin for help. We looked for editions published before the earthquake. I hope we got some of them right?"
Eddie just mutters "Sorry, I'm about to do something really unprofessional now" and pulls Steve into a bear hug. And Steve reciprocates.
"Fuck, this...this is everything," says Eddie into his shoulder. "How did you do this? Are you magic. You must be magic."
Steve grins. "I take it the surprise was a success then?"
Eddie finally pulls back. He would have loved to keep embracing Steve for a bit longer, but boundaries. "A total one. Wow. I mean. It's a lot, but so good. SO GOOD. How can I repay you?"
"You already paid me, Eddie."
"You know what I mean!" Eddie points and the books and apparently also a DVD collection he now owns. "This must have been so much more work than you normally do, no? I doubt every client has you memorize the members of the Fellowship."
"Not just that, but also why Sam is the best," Steve smiles at him and fuck. Eddie might be in love. "It was more than usual, but I loved it, Eddie. That's why I like my job so much, helping people find themselves again. You don't owe me anything. Although, if you're offering..."
"I'm listening."
Steve runs his fingers through that majestic hair. "So, I didn't tell Dustin that I was decorating the house for you, but he's a huge fan of your music. Like, massive, has every album, has been following your career from the start. And feel free to tell me it's too much, you are my client after all, but...he'd love to meet you. Over a pizza, maybe? The plain ham and cheese one you like so it doesn't have too many flavors?"
And Eddie melts. Because Steve still remembers his pizza choice from months ago, even though this definitely wasn't in his notes. He decides there and then that Steven Harrington is a national treasure.
"Sure, big boy," he smiles at Steve, and hopes he didn't imagine Steve leaning into the touch. "How about you invite him over for a movie night or something? With pizza of course."
It looks like Steve could kiss him, but he doesn't. Not yet. That only happens a week later, when they bump into each other in Eddie's kitchen when they scramble to make more popcorn for Dustin.
Steve stays the next night. And maybe a few after that. Always in a different themed bedroom.
They travel for work a lot, but when they are both in Chicago, they always meet in the Green Dragon kitchen, cuddle in the bed that would be far too large for a hobbit, and in the night, Eddie wraps himself around Steve and whispers: "My preciousssss."
And Steve can't really complain, because it's his fault that his boyfriend has re-discovered his dorkiness, so why would he mind?

Terrible Fic Idea #87: Percy Jackson, but make it MCU
Look, I didn't want to come up with yet another crazy PJO crossover, but here I am. Because instead of just coming up with the lightest, fluffiest, gayest PJO romance possible - which is what I wanted - I had to turn it into an MCU identity reveal fic too.
Or: What if post-ToA Percy Jackson was Peter Parker's caseworker following Aunt May's untimely death?
Just imagine it:
Tony Stark first meets Percy Jackson in the ICU of Metropolitan General the day after Peter and his aunt are caught in a terrible subway accident. May dies on scene. Even with his advanced healing, Peter is badly injured and taken to the nearest hospital - where it quickly becomes apparent he's Enhanced. It takes about 24 hours for the news to make its way to Tony, who immediately storms the hospital with the intention of taking Peter back to his Tower to heal-
-only to be told Peter's not going anywhere by the social worker assigned to the case.
This is remarkable for many reasons, not the least because the social worker is an unassuming, overworked 27-year-old wearing Finding Nemo socks and a faded Save the Oceans t-shirt. That the case worker - Percy Jackson - stands his ground in the face of Iron Man's wrath is even more remarkable, but Tony is forced to admit the kid has a point: he can't just let someone without any obvious connection to a minor walk off with said minor, particularly when that minor is Enhanced.
It takes Tony a couple days to get his ducks in a row, proving that he is not only able and willing to take in Peter, but is the one his aunt wanted to take care of him in the event something happened to her. During that time he has JARVIS research everything he can on Percy (lives in a Central Park penthouse owned by his long-time boyfriend, a successful music producer; volunteers for a NPO started by his best friend dedicated to restoring the wild; brief stint as the youngest ever on the FBI's most wanted, etc), but finds nothing to suggest he's anything other than a social worker trying to do what's best for his charges.
Percy becomes a semi-regular fixture at the Tower. At first it's just business, checking in on how Peter is doing and facilitating the foster care/adoption paperwork. Later it becomes something akin to friendship, with Percy being utterly unimpressed by Tony's fame but remarkably charmed by his inventions and philanthropic efforts. (He also comes to have strong feelings about the Rogues and their actions during the Civil War once he learns of them, helping Tony to see their betrayal for what it is. This alone makes him one of Rhodey and Pepper's favorite people.)
This goes on for quite some time - though I see this as happening post-CACW, we don't jump straight into the Infinity War, with there being several years wherein the Accords are ratified, the Rogues found and tried for their actions in the Civil War, and for the most part allowed to return to the Avengers on a probationary basis - until Thor finally arrives with news of Thanos' impending arrival.
Only Percy happens to be visiting when Thor arrives and the Avengers naturally have questions after Thor addresses him as Prince Perseus.
The truth of Percy's identity comes out in fits and starts (demigod son of Poseidon, saved the world a couple times, ascended to become God of Heroes, Natural Disasters, and Poison as well as Patron God of New York City; has been dating Apollo since he was fourteen; yes, is actually a social worker, albeit one who takes cases across the country to protect demigods and Enhanced), which is not helped by Thor (who can't help but comment on what he knows of Percy's heroics) or Apollo (who shows up after Percy texts an SOS but can't help but talk up his boyfriend either.)
The Infinity War still happens, albeit rather differently than in canon - perhaps Thanos turns out to be a disgruntled child or sibling of Gaia out for revenge, justifying Greek/Roman interference? But the details don't really matter as much as the identity reveal.
And... that's really all I have with regards to plot. But there should be a lot of character moments leading up to the reveal that hint at who Percy really is but which don't form a coherent narrative until the truth is revealed.
Bonuses include:
The softest, fluffiest romance possible for Apollo and Percy, with the pair more or less falling head over heels at first sight at the start of TTC, having their first kiss at the party at the end of the book, and dating throughout the rest of the Titan War. Apollo goes absolutely batshit insane when Percy goes missing at the start of HOO and breaks out of Olympus to crash the Senate meeting at the end of SoN and check on his boyfriend, and eventually gets made mortal for helping too much during the Giant War. The broad strokes of ToA occur with Percy fighting at his now-mortal boyfriend's side, and Percy ascends to godhood when Apollo regains his. There's some tension (Zeus is not happy about his firstborn son's choice of lover, fearing overthrow; Poseidon fears Apollo will end up breaking Percy's heart, but softens after Percy ascends and his chance of becoming a flower diminishes; many CHB campers think Percy's mad for dating a god, etc) but for the most part it should be as fluffy as circumstances allow.
Percy having been really obvious about his background, but in ways that seem reasonable ("How did you meet your boyfriend?" "I was at a really bad party when a friend ended up calling her brother to pick us up early. I fell in love with his car and then with him.") or like jokes ("Those sea turtles really seem to like you." "I like them too." "I guess they're kind of cute." "Excellent conversationalists too.") until the full truth comes out; and
Thor attempting to make up for blowing Percy's cover in dramatic (and hilarious) ways. This should include the gift of at least one native Asgardian water plant ("Dude, have you never heard of invasive species?") and end in a bakery's worth of Asgardian baked goods.
And that's all I have, though given the way this has been living rent-free in my head all week there may be more. As always feel free to adopt this bun, just link back if you do anything with it.

I don’t even know how I can describe the week I spent in Washington state with @thatisadamnfinecupofcoffee and @annespelledwithane. Here are the memories that will stay with me:
Pike Place Market, the perfect introduction to Seattle, on a rainy Sunday evening, eating Beecher’s mac and cheese and enormous cookies while standing huddled under a storefront. A huge dinner that night at Din Tai Fung, one of my favorite restaurants.
Marveling at the glass art at Chihuly Garden and Glass, and watching a live glassblowing demonstration. Taking an underground tour of Seattle on a rainy afternoon, and learning a lot about the city, and warming up with a hot pot dinner after a day of being in the cold and rain.
Savory pastry breakfasts in the warm golden light of a bakery while it was gray and drizzling outside. Road tripping from Seattle to Port Angeles and entering Olympic National Park to do our first hike at Marymere Falls, and getting to sit on and walk along the shores of the enormous, beautiful Lake Crescent, eating bread and cheese.
Driving deep into the forest the next morning to hike at Sol Duc Falls, and then even further into the Hoh Rainforest, marveling at the Hall of Mosses. Walking along the Pacific Coast at Rialto Beach under the golden evening sunlight, when the sun finally came out from under the clouds. Sitting on the driftwood at the beach to eat farmer’s market persimmons and more bread and cheese.
We found the cutest diner in Port Angeles on our way back to Seattle, and loved the final drive past Lake Crescent while listening to TSwift. We explored the Main Street of Bainbridge Island and ate locally made chocolate truffles, and went to the Museum of Pop Culture. We went to Snoqualmie Falls, of Twin Peaks fame. On our final day of our trip, we hiked Rattlesnake Ledge, climbing a whole mountain. We saw so many sides of Washington State in our short time there, from the forests and rainforests to the mountain, the ocean, and the streets and underground of Seattle.
I loved our takeout dinners of pizza and Thai food and Chinese food eaten in our hotel rooms, the episodes of the X Files we watched, the music we listened to, the discussions we had. It was amazing and beautiful. I love the Pacific Northwest, and it’s been my dream to visit Olympic National Park for years now. I’m so glad I got to have this experience with my friends.
Waiting at the airport for my flight home now ♥️

Fam, I am gonna need pictures. That sounds so cool!
Heads up, this turned into more than just some pictures. It’s a short history lesson as well because this place is cool.
Introducing: Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado!
Tumblr media
Built in the 1920s, the area was purchased by the City of Denver as part of Red Rocks Park, which is a mountain park also maintained by Denver. Denver then contracted a guy to design the amphitheater. It’s held other names, such as “Garden of the Angels” but everyone calls it Red Rocks because, well…
Tumblr media
Pretty much it was carved straight out of a rock and remains mainly untouched since it’s creation save for some general safety things (and a bit of reconstruction in 2020)
Tumblr media
(Picture from 1966)
However one of the big new additions in 2015 is the Colorado Music Hall of Fame, a refurbished trading post that honors anyone who’s either from Colorado or have had a massive musical influence within Colorado.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Musicians like John Denver (who’s not actually from Denver despite his name haha) was one of thousands who’s played at this theatre, and recorded songs. The Grateful Dead considered Red Rocks as one of their favorite venues. OneRepublic, One Direction, U2, The Beatles, Carole King, The Blues Brothers, the Lumineers, and The Carpenters are just a few of the big names who have come here. South Park’s creators also came here a few years ago.
Red Rocks amphitheatre is also fairly steep with wide steps for spectators to stand or sit accordingly… or simply to run up and down stairs (you can see it in this in a video that actually got on the Colorado news of a guy running with his dog). This also makes it easier to see over other people. However along with the general safety changes made over the years, they’ve also dedicated 70/196 rows as wheelchair accessible, and the first 3 rows are exclusively for towards anyone with a mobility disability who can’t walk or push a wheelchair too far (everyone else must take stairs up from the main parking lot). There’s also a couple elevators.
Beyond its cool location and historical impact, it’s also really pretty with different lighting. The nice thing about the rocks is that it can easily reflect the concert lighting and still capture the vibe a football stadium or concert hall might. And it’s all outside!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which means you can be hailed on haha. Don’t worry, it happens more often than you think.
Anyway that’s the short little Tumblr tour around Red Rocks. It’s a rather well known amphitheatre among musical artists, and a must-see should you ever come visit here.
The end!

[Intro]
eurt si em tuoba yas yeht gnihtyrevE
Euphoria
[Verse]
Them super powers gettin' neutralized, I can only watch in silence
The famous actor we once knew is lookin' paranoid and now spiralin'
You're movin' just like a degenerate, every antic is feelin' distasteful
I calculate you're not as calculated, I can even predict your angle
Fabricatin' stories on the family front 'cause you heard Mr. Morale
A pathetic master manipulator, I can smell the tales on you now
You'rе not a rap artist, you a scam artist with the hopes of being accеpted
Tommy Hilfiger stood out, but FUBU never had been your collection
I make music that electrify 'em, you make music that pacify 'em
I can double down on that line, but spare you this time, that's random acts of kindness
Know you a master manipulator and habitual liar too
But don't tell no lie about me and I won't tell truths 'bout you
[Part II]
[Intro]
Shoo, shoo, shoo
Shoo, shoo, shoo

Have you ever walked your enemy down like with a poker face?
Have you ever paid five-hundred thou' like to an open case?
Well, I have, and I failed at both, but I came out straight
I hate when I rap or talk about guns, then somebody die
They turn into nuns, then hop online, like "Pray for my city"
He fakin' for likes and digital hugs
His daddy a killer, he wanna be junior, they must've forgot the shit that they done
Dementia must run in his family, but let it get shaky
I'll park his son
The very first time I shot me a Drac', the homie had told me to aim it this way
I didn't point down enough, today, I'll show you I learned from those mistakes
Somebody had told me that you got a ring, on God, I'm ready to double the wage
I'd rather do that than let a Canadian nigga make Pac turn in his grave
Cutthroat business, you got shit twisted
What is it? The braids?
I hurt your feelings? You don't wanna work with me no more? Okay
It's three G.O.A.T.s left, and I seen two of them kissin' and huggin' on stage

You better off spinnin' again on him, you think about pushin' me
He's Terrence Thornton, I'm Terence Crawford, yeah, I'm whoopin' feet
We ain't gotta get personal, this a friendly fade, you should keep it that way
I know some shit about niggas that make Gunna Wunna look like a saint
This ain't been about critics, not about gimmicks, not about who the greatest
It's always been about love and hate, now let me say I'm the biggest hater
I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk, I hate the way that you dress
I hate the way that you sneak diss, if I catch flight, it's gon' be direct
We hate the bitches you fuck, 'cause they confuse themself with real women
And notice, I said "we," it's not just me, I'm what the culture feelin'
How many more fairytale stories 'bout your life 'til we had enough?
How many more Black features 'til you finally feel that you're Black enough?
I like Drake with the melodies, I don't like Drake when he act tough
You gon' make a nigga bring back Puff, let me see if Chubbs really crash somethin'
Yeah, my first one like my last one, it's a classic, you don't have one
Let your core audience stomach that, then tell 'em where you get your abs from
V12, it's a fast one, baow-baow-baow, last one
Headshot for the year, you better walk around like Daft Punk
[Verse 2]
Remember?
Ayy, Top Dawg, who the fuck they think they playin' with?
Extortion my middle name as soon as you jump off of that plane, bitch
I'm allergic to the lame shit, only you like bein' famous
Yachty can't give you no swag neither, I don't give a fuck 'bout who you hang with
I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk, I hate the way that you dress
Surprised you wanted that feature request
You know that we got some shit to address
I even hate when you say the word "nigga," but that's just me, I guess
Some shit just cringeworthy, it ain't even gotta be deep, I guess
Still love when you see success, everything with me is blessed
Keep makin' me dance, wavin' my hand, and it won't be no threat
I'm knowin' they call you The Boy, but where is a man? 'Cause I ain't seen him yet
Matter fact, I ain't even bleed him yet, can I bleed him? Bet
When I see you stand by Sexyy Red, I believe you see two bad bitches
I believe you don't like women, it's real competition, you might pop ass with 'em
Let's speak on percentage, show me your splits, I'll make sure I double back with you
You were signed to a nigga that's signed to a nigga that said he was signed to that nigga
Try cease and desist on the "Like That" record?
Ho, what? You ain't like that record?
"Back To Back," I like that record
I'ma get back to that, for the record
Why would I call around tryna get dirt on niggas? Y'all think all my life is rap?
That's ho shit, I got a son to raise, but I can see you don't know nothin' 'bout that
Wakin' him up, know nothin' 'bout that
And tell him to pray, know nothin' 'bout that
And givin' him tools to walk through life like day-by-day, know nothin' 'bout that
Teachin' him morals, integrity, discipline, listen, man, you don't know nothin' 'bout that
Speakin' the truth and consider what God's considerin', you don't know nothin' 'bout that
Ain't twenty-v-one, it's one-v-twenty if I gotta smack niggas that write with you
Yeah, bring 'em out too, I'll clear 'em out too
Tell BEAM that he better stay right with you
Am I battlin' ghost or AI? Nigga feelin' like Joel Osteen
Funny, he was in a film called "AI"
And my sixth sense tellin' me to off him
I'ma blick niggas all in they coffin
Yeah, OV-ho niggas is dick riders
Tell 'em run to America, they imitate heritage, they can't imitate this violence
What I learned is niggas don't like the West Coast
And I'm fine with it, I'll push the line with it
Pick a nigga off one at a time with it
We can be on a three-hour time difference
Don't speak on the family, crodie
It can get deep in the family, crodie
Talk about me and my family, crodie?
Someone gon' bleed in your family, crodie
I be at New Ho King eatin' fried rice with a dip sauce and blammy, crodie
Tell me you're cheesin', fam
We can do this right now on the camera, crodie
Ayy, fuck y'all niggas, I don't trust y'all niggas
I wave one finger and thump y'all niggas like mmm
Field goal, punt y'all niggas, they punk y'all niggas, nobody never took my food
Whoever that's fuckin' with him, fuck you niggas, and fuck the industry too
If you take it there, I'm takin' it further
Psst, that's somethin' you don't wanna do
[Outro]
Ooh
We don't wanna hear you say "nigga" no more
We don't wanna hear you say "nigga" no more
Stop

Los Angeles Complete Travel Guide
Tumblr media
LOS ANGELES FAMILY TRAVEL GUIDE
The second largest city of the US, Los Angeles has its own unmatched magnetism. In my growing up years, I recall Los Angeles as the venue of the Olympics. And then subsequently over the years, this most prominent metropolis in California, as the glamorous hub of Hollywood. Beverly hills where stars own palatial houses. And of course Disneyland ! If you’re a Disney fan, and are traveling with your family surely you couldn’t possibly return without a trip to Disneyland in Anaheim.
Best Los Angeles Getaway With Family
As LA is huge, with Anaheim being a city in itself, plan your itinerary in such a way that you first visit the parks. There are two Disney parks  near Los Angeles in Anaheim, 26 miles away. It is highly recommended, to first spend 2-3 days here. Stay in one of the hotels just walking distance from the parks and then move to main  LA for the remaining part of your trip.
HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES
Staying in a centrally located hotel in West Beverly Hills, Hollywood, at the doorstep of the Walk of Fame boulevard has its advantages. Just as you step out, you’ll find yourself on the legendary Walk of Fame boulevard, having the longest list of stars, celebrities and performers.
Tumblr media
It’s a pleasure to stroll here. The views of the tree lined street, the blue skies above and brightly colored buildings is picture perfect in the day and transforms into a wonderland in the night when the fluorescent lights are lit.
It was Halloween during that time, and if you too happen to visitng in this month, then look forward to being fully entertained by all sorts of the weirdest and scariest dressed passerby’s.
There are a plethora of museums on the boulevard that can be visited depending upon your interest and time. These include  the Guinness World record museum, World of Illusions and the Hollywood Wax museum to name a few, that are great for families. Also plenty of cultural activities happen – live theatre, art galleries, film complexes and music concerts.
BEVERLY HILLS
Beverly Hills has been the setting of innumerable films, and  to be actually present there was like a dream come true. And above all, the most magical moment was to watch the shooting of a movie starring Brad Pitt on the streets of West Hollywood. This sort of completed our trip and was the ultimate experience.
Tumblr media
If you’re a tourist visiting Los Angeles for the first time, it’s worthwhile to take a chartered tour to the famous Beverly Hills. There are multiple types of private trips with a live commentary at hand including half day, full day or few hours. The three hour tour included Beverly Hills, residence of celebrities and film stars, and finishes off at Rodeo drive . This is actually quite sufficient, as you can do it at your own pace rather than a hurried, longer trip,  in which a lot is squeezed in.
One advice here,  before the tour begins make sure to eat something and be refreshed as there are no stoppages in between, specially if you have younger children accompanying you.
https://travelsimplygo.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/LA8.jpg
The tour halts at vantage points from where the iconic Hollywood sign is visible on the hill-side. Sunset Point and Bronson Avenue give a clear view, and are ideal spots for photos.
You’ve seen them in movies, now see where your favorite stars live, hang around for a while, listening to interesting stories narrated by your guide, gazing at their posh, sprawling homes/ mansions !!
Afterward, the tour continues onto the upmarket Rodeo drive, with its high class stores of luxury brands. Here again there are no halts and is the final destination, where you are dropped off.
Tumblr media
Griffith Observatory – There is more to the Griffith Observatory than the exteriors and stunning views of the city from its elevated position. A planetarium inside and a number of ticketed shows too draw tourists.
 FAMOUS BEACHES
Santa Monica beach – the pier at Santa Monica is worth visiting. It’s a picturesque point on the Pacific Ocean, having  loads of activities, a children’s park, or street performers vying for attention and tips.
The other prominent beach of LA is Venice, spectator sports like basketball, baseball, football, soccer etc are played in abundance  on these beaches.
The `city of angels’, looks spectacular after dark when it’s lit up and truly comes alive. The best way to enjoy that is to drive through the streets around the Hollywood area, where traffic congestions are less. Admire the high-rises or the  wonderful houses in the residential neighborhood!
If you wish to have more adventure and unlimited fun, then there is Universal Studios, Hollywood. Apart from the plethora of thrilling rides and sci-fi shows,  of particular interest here are the movie shooting sites, and complete tours of how special effects are created in films.
Tumblr media
Though Los Angeles is fringed by the Pacific Ocean, and has nice beaches, the weather is not typical beach type. It can be classified as a Mediterranean climate – characterized by  dry summers and wet winters. My own experience of the weather in October – sunny and warm during the day and evenings becoming mildly cold as temperatures go down. Going by the diverse activities offered here, travelers can pack accordingly.

Memphis, Tennessee - From A Local
Original Post Link / Original post date: September 11 2023
Here is everything I enjoy doing in Memphis as a local to Memphis, Tennessee. Memphis is an interesting city to visit with a lot of history while currently in a season of growth and healing. I also did include some museums that relate back to the history of Memphis for anyone who is visiting and wants to know more about it.
Memphis Museum of Science & History (The Pink Palace) – Information Page
This has always been a favorite of mine in Memphis, ever since I was a kid. It’s so fun to walk around. There’s Memphis history and southern history In a beautiful museum. The gift shop is a bit overpriced FYI. [11/02/2023 Add.] A good thought of warning that there is a Civil War section with grotesque, realistic wax statues of amputations and Civil War medicine, so… Keep that in mind. If you want to hold your food down.
National Civil Rights Museum – Lorraine Motel – Information Page
Go. Go to this museum. This is one of the most important museums you could visit currently. If you go to one museum in Memphis, go to this one. This is Memphis history. This is the history of a city that was born of holding your head up and moving forward.
The Children’s Museum of Memphis – Information Page
This is another fun museum! I went when I was… you know, a children at one time, and I remember vividly enjoying it. I would recommend this is if you have a young restless child. If you have an older child, go to the Pink Palace.
Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid – Information Page
Look. This is a fever dream and I beg you to go. I cannot explain the trip I feel with this being the largest bass pro shop in the world while being in Memphis, Tennessee, on the Mississippi River, in a Pyramid. They have a whole bowling alley.
Memphis Brooks Museum of Art – Information Page
I have been to this museum a few times and I have loved it. It is a very nice museum. In my opinion, it Is one of the better Southern art museums in terms of covering ancient to contemporary art.
Huey’s – Website
I like their queso. I’ve been to many Huey’s locations and I have had a good experience at all of them. Just be careful if you go when Memphis is playing. It’ll probably be busy. Or any other football or basketball game.
Central BBQ – Website
Central is great. Go to it.
The Art Center – Website
This is my art store! If you are an artist, I would suggest popping in and supporting a Memphis business. [11/02/2023 Add.] If you’re driving and not flying, I would suggest stocking up a little here. They have great prices on certain things like Golden Acrylic Paints.
Memphis Zoo – Information Page
I think if you grew up in and around Memphis, you know this place like the back of your hand. It’s wonderful. It is one of the best Zoo’s. End of sentence. The Memphis Zoo is beside the Brooks in Overton Park and they have events for halloween and the winter holidays. I am partial to Zoo Lights, for the winter holidays, where the zoo is covered in lights and certain exhibits are open.
Stax Museum of American Soul Music – Website
Slave Haven/Burkle Estate Museum – Website
Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum – Website
Blues Hall of Fame Museum – Website
The Cotton Museum at Memphis Cotton Exchange – Website
Dixon Gallery & Gardens – Website
Two places that are overhyped in my opinion: The Rendezvous and Graceland. I grew up here. No local could care about either of these places. If you want to go to Graceland, that’s fine. None of us particularly care, but that’s okay. The Rendezvous on the other hand… don’t. Go get some real barbecue and experience the city. Not whatever monstrosity this is. Central BBQ is great. Tops is pretty good. Don’t go to The Rendezvous unless you want subpar BBQ. Do not.
Also, we have a whole IKEA. If you’ve never been and want to go… we’ve got one! It’s big. Bring your walking shoes.
I really just wanted to make a post about where I’m from and put that out there. I love this city. Aside from that, I hope you’re having a good day/night wherever you are, and most of all-
Happy travels! – Annie, the Crosseyed Cricket.

Childhood Best Friend
Notes: This feels simultaneously like the most romantic thing I’ve ever written, and also like I’ve ripped my heart out of my chest and rubbed it on the page.
Prowl had been forced to come to terms with his failures.  Hed accepted many of his faults and was working on finding contentment.  His life was nothing like how he’d imagined it.
He was not the Chief of the Enforcers.  He was not even an Enforcer.
He did not own his own habsuite.
He was not bonded.
He had no honors for the walls, no proudly displayed awards or certificates.
He was a faceless no one on the street and he was going to have to be okay with that.
He was not okay with his sparklinghood best friend finding out.
0-0-0
Jazz had arrived at worse than rock-bottom - he wasn’t even a has-been.  He was inching towards middle age, firmly set for being a never-was.  Mediocre.
He had no record contract.
He had no gigs.
He wasn’t famous.
He wasn’t rich.
There was no ‘wall of fame’ with his music on it.
He was a failed musician working odd jobs to get by and he had been able to mostly ignore the gnawing sense of shame in his spark.
He wasn’t sure he would be able to if the most important person from his sparklinghood found out.
0-0-0
It was chance that they ran across each other - an old teacher had contacted them both, looking for pictures of their classmates for a reunion.  He’d been surprised they hadn’t kept in touch and given each the other’s comm code.  Meeting up was unavoidable.
They decided to meet at a small cafe by Jazz’s habsuite.
Prowl had sprung for a polish, but it wasn’t enough to hide the cheapness of his paint or the lack of Enforcer decals.
He’d driven most of the way himself, fueling on the cheapest energon he could find to save a few credits and now he was lost.
“Excuse me.”  He was walking through a residential area - apartment buildings, tiny front gardens, a shabby well-loved sparkling park.  He stopped to ask an older mech repairing the fence for directions.
“Do you know where Gravity Cafe is?”  The mech stood up, creaking slightly, and brushed curls of aluminum from his knees.  He was the muddy brown-green that older bots tended to favor and he wore two small metals of distinction on his left shoulder for service in the Space Academy.
“Out of towner?  You’re in the right area, keep goin’ up tha’ way,” he pointed ahead, “an’ take a right at the mega-credit station.  You here for the festival?” he asked hopefully.
“Festival?”
The mech pointed towards a banner strung between two light posts down the road.
“Music and Light Festival, every town in Polyhex does it. Ours is just local - the one in the central town is huge an’ that’s where bots usually are heading.”
“No.”  Something warmed in his spark - Jazz was probably going to be playing on one of those central town stages soon.  “I’m visiting a friend - Jazz - but it might be interesting to see.”
The mech’s optics brightened.
“You’re a friend of Jazzy’s?”
“Yes, you know him?”
The mech bounced in place.
“He’s the bot that walked my grand-sparklings to school every day when their creators left them wit’ me!  Used ta come over and play ‘em ta sleep too.  He’s the kindest bot in the whole city.  I was jus’ wishin’ he was here ta help me wit’ this, but if he’s meetin’ a good friend, I think that’s better.  Tell him I said, hi, yeah?”
“Of course.”
The mech wasn’t the last to talk up Jazz.  The femme at the mega-credit station raved about how Jazz donated his time to the local school and taught music lessons cheap enough for bots to afford them.  Another said that no matter how sad he felt, when he walked by Jazz when he was playing at night, he felt happier.  Prowl stopped to help a couple of younglings hang a banner and mentioned Jazz again.  He was apparently “the cooooolest” and they’d been to one of his concerts in the park.
Prowl dreaded Jazz finding out about his own life, but he couldn’t stop smiling, thinking about his best friend being so well loved.
0-0-0
Jazz had given in and looked Prowl up on the net.  He’d expected a few articles about him, maybe some pictures.
He hadn’t expected how many forums would be talking about how he saved their lives.
“I’d be dead by now, if it wasn’t for Prowl,” one post read in a neighborhood forum.
“He helped me keep my sparklings safe,” said another in a forum for abused bondmates.
“He was an aft, but he was right, and he got me out of trouble,” was a most liked post on a finance forum talking about people who needed advice.
Jazz wondered what branch of the enforcers Prowl was in that brought him into contact with such a wide range of bots and problems.
It sounded just like him though.  Stupidly brave, mechling was not a stupidly brave mech.
At least one of them had gotten their dream.
Jazz saw the Iacon Hall stage in his processor, the screaming fans, himself playing something brilliant and new and complicated.  Endless hotel rooms and money to burn.
Frag.
Jazz stared down into his cube and tried not to imagine Prowl’s face when he realized what Jazz was doing with his life.  He traced pictures in the fluffy foam top with the tip of a digit.
The door opened.
0-0-0
It was Jazz.  Dear, Primus.  For some reason, Prowl hadn’t expected the mech to look the same - that smug grin, those sparkling optics, he even still had the same visor, now out of date and out of fashion.
“Jazz,” he breathed, a smile breaking across his face.  “Jazz.”
“Prowler.”  Then he was standing and they were both caught in a crushing embrace, not sure who had started it.
“Let me order ya a cube,” Jazz said, reluctantly breaking away from the embrace.
“Okay.”  Prowl slid into the booth and discretely wiped his optics.  Jazz bounced up to the counter and waved over the mech.  They spoke and the barista turned to Prowl, smiling.  He said something to Jazz and then turned to make whatever concoction Jazz had ordered him.
The mech turned with an extremely purple cube in his servo and instead of giving it to Jazz, walked around the counter and headed towards their table.
“Orion!  Hey - !”  Jazz grabbed for the mech.  He walked faster, slopping a bit of purple over his servos, a giant grin on his face.
“One Gravity special!,” he said, placing it before Prowl.  “On the house for a ‘friend’ of Jazzy’s!”  Then he winked and spun around, walk - sauntering back to his station.
“What was -” Prowl stared, but Jazz waved it away.
“Jus’ a friend who thinks he’s funny.  It’s good though, the special.”  Jazz sat and Prowl took a sip.  It was good.
They fell silent and Prowl felt something in him ease.  He’d missed Jazz.
0-0-0
“So,” Jazz said, as he licked the last of the foam from the rim of the cube, “how’ve ya been doin’?”
Prowl twitched and his optics dropped to the table.
“I am…well.  There is nothing exciting going on in my life.”
“Ya went inta the Enforcers’ Academy after university, right?”  Jazz hadn’t seen Prowl since secondary school when they had both been awkward younglings, still growing into their new frames.
“I…no, I was not accepted.”
Jazz felt his mouth drop open and hurried to hide the surprise from his face.  All those people on the data net -
“What did you do instead?” he asked quickly.  He wanted to know - but he wasn’t going to ask.
Prowl answered the silent question anyways, his voice flat and low.
“They said my psych eval indicated instability in highly emotional situations.  I was offered a desk position in one of the political offices, but I declined.  My tactical processor was not designed for…politics.”
“That’s - that sucks, mech,” Jazz said.  He leaned back and vented deeply.  Poor Prowl.  The news must have devastated him.  “But, ya doin’ good now, right?  I mean -”
“I share a habsuite with two others and we’re saving up to buy it.  Credits are not plentiful right now.”
That explained the cheap paint.
“Is it a nice neighborhood?” Jazz asked, trying to steer the conversation to something positive.
“It is not bad,” Prowl admitted.  “It is close to work -”  He fell silent.
“Ya don’ have ta talk ‘bout it if ya don’ wanna,” Jazz offered.  “If -”
Prowl folded his servos neatly on the sticky table in front of him.
“I am a financial advisor and I run a small private security firm.”
“Oh.”
“I usually do small things - I work mostly with non-profit organizations.  We help mechs and femmes get financial independence.  Bots that have fallen below the poverty line.  My company only has three bots - me, Bulkhead, and Cliffjumper - and we only do piece work.”  Prowl was staring out the window, keeping Jazz out of view.
“You do events or -”
“Whoever needs some…security.”
“And you advise -”
“I was just hired by the Bonded Protection Home - financial abuse is very common.”
“I hadn’t thought about that.”
“It is not…what I had imagined for myself,” Prowl said softly, looking down at his servos, shoulder hunched to make himself smaller.
It was the opposite of the sparkling Jazz had known.  That Prowl had always stood up, doorwings flared out, jumping in the middle of fights to defend whatever poor bitlet the bullies had decided to target.
He’d lost most of the fights.
“Ya mean all that hero business we talked about?  Running inta burnin’ buildings and saving people?  Going up against gangs and stuff?”
Prowl nodded.
“I…have had to accept that I am not a hero.”  He said it softly and Jazz saw his own shame mirrored in Prowl’s face, in his dim optics, in the twisting of his servos.
Frag that.
“Of course you’re a hero, dumbaft!”  Jazz slammed his servos on the table and the cubes rattled.  “Those bots save what - a couple dozen sparks a vorn?  Some showy heroics and a couple of traffic stops?  Ya using ya processor ta give people back their lives, Prowler.  Ya save lives every week - more than any a’ the enforcers could.  Ya special, Prowl.”  He reached out and took Prowl’s servo, squeezing hard.
Prowl was staring at him.  Jazz got the feeling that his enormously powerful processor was spinning in circles.
“That - you don’t understand - what?” he finally said, servos clutching at Jazz’s just as hard now.
“I think that’s amazing, Prowl, that you help people in so many different ways.  Jus’ like when we were bitlets.”
“Oh.”
Looking at it like that made everything seem…like something he could be proud of.
0-0-0
Jazz’s barista friend, Orion, came over under the guise of ‘cleaning’ to see if they were alright.  He smeared some of the spills around the table and then walked away, leaving the dirty rag and both their empty cubes.
“He must care about you,” Prowl remarked.
“He’s a nosey fragger that can’t stay outta any bot’s business,” Jazz grumbled.  He stacked the cubes and wiped the table probably.
“Is he a fan?” Prowl asked, letting his smile just peek out.  “The bitlets told me that everyone goes to your concerts.”
Jazz tensed and Prowl knew he’d said something wrong.
“Jazz?”
“I ah…they ain’t exactly concerts.  Not like tha’.  I jus’ drag my fiddle out ta the park every few months an’ play a few hours.  ‘S nothin’ big.  I - I don’ actually play professionally.  At all.”
That was…not what Prowl had been expecting.
“But you still play?” he asked.  Jazz’s optics were avoid his, darting over the small cafe.  A small, false smile was fixed on his face.
“Yeah.  Just…not as a career.”
“You chose something else?”  Jazz had lived for music when they’d been young.  Even as back when they’d met as toddling sparklings in preschool.
“Wasn’t really a choice.  I mostly do odd jobs.  I - well, it started as a way ta pay bills while I was workin’ on becomin’ a risin’ star and then, when I didn’t, it was all I really knew how ta do and -”  He laughed but it had a rough edge.  “I’ve got some steady gigs - jobs, I mean - like music lessons at the community center and they always hire me for the festivals.  I help some of the bots wit’ house and yard work that they can’t do.  Doesn’t make a lot, but the rent here is cheap.  I got my own habsuite - but it’s the size of a datapad.”  He laughed again.  “Not what I’d thought I’d be doing when I graduated.  Thought I’d be out, building up my name, getting contracts -”
“You’ve still made quite a name for yourself -” Prowl interrupted.  He couldn’t bear to hear that note of loss in Jazz’s voice.  The shame Prowl was only too familiar with.  Jazz was amazing - a brilliant musician and the kindest mech he’d ever known.
“I ain’t famous.”
“Yet every bot I spoke to on the way here knew of you,” he countered.  “They talked about hearing your music and how it helped them when they were sad.  You made them feel happy and the sparklings were excited to hear you again at this festival that’s going on.  A mech told me you helped him take care of his grand-sparklings when their parents abandoned them.  Bots love you Jazz.”  He couldn’t hold back a laugh.  “They always do.”
0-0-0
Jazz blinked.  That was how they’d met, two sparklings in school, grumpy Prowl and Jazz who could chatter to anyone.  People had insisted that if Jazz could make Prowl his friend, he could make friends with everyone.  Bots loved him.
Jazz had loved Prowl.  He stared at him now, the best friend he’d ever had, and he could feel his world shifting.  Something was coming loose from the moorings.  Something was changing.
Prowl, who thought he wasn’t important and spent his days saving lives, was looking at him as if he was important, his optics soft, warm.  He spoke, quietly, love in his optics.
“I would love to hear you play.  I know it’s not the Iacon Hall, but -”
“Nah, I’d love ta play for ya, mech.”  Strangely enough, for the first time in years, that vision of himself, playing on that stage, seemed fuzzy and, well, silly.  It was just a stage.  He couldn’t even picture the crowd anymore - just a sea of strange faces.
He imagined playing to Prowl, sitting on his beat up couch, the upstairs neighbors calling down their favorites.  He imagined Prowl’s optics as he played their favorite tunes from their bitlet days.  He imagined a future with Prowl in it, visiting on the weekends, talking about their days.
It was…bright.

Bang Bang - "Bye Bye Blues" Hi:Fidelity Lounge - Volume One: Subterranean Soundtracks Song released in 1997. Compilation released in 1999. Downtempo / Trip Hop
Bang Bang is the alias of French multi-instrumentalist Xavier Jamaux, who basically has two claims to fame in his career: currently, he is a successful film composer, and long before that, he was also in a high school indie band in the mid-80s called Orange, with Jean-Benoit Dunckel and Nicolas Godin, both of whom would then later go on to form the electronic downtempo/prog/pop band AIR.
After Orange broke up, Jamaux put out some stuff with an experimental new wave group called Persona and Spleen Ideal. Then following that, he and fellow band member Marc Collin formed a trio called Indurain, which was then whittled down to a duo and became Ollano. And after Ollano released their 1996 debut album, Jamaux finally launched his own solo career as Bang Bang. '97 would see his debut, a 12-inch on Bob Sinclar's Yellow Productions called Bye Bye Blues, and then that record's closing title track would get licensed by Chicago label Guidance Recordings for their own partially-mixed 1999 comp that tried to cash in on that whole global underground chillout and downtempo craze at the time called Hi:Fidelity Lounge Volume One: Subterranean Soundtracks.
So, what I find to be most remarkable about this terrific piece of relaxational late 90s trip hop here is how its sound seems to evoke the two things that Jamaux seems to be best known for himself these days: "Bye Bye Blues" is this smooth bit of meticulously-made haze that both sounds cinematic and also as if AIR could've possibly produced it themselves. There is a certain spacey depth to much of AIR's own oeuvre, and you can hear it on this tune with certain things, like the combination of string pads and the wavy reverb off the subtly ringing, undergirding keyboards, as well as the funky wah guitar's reverb too. And credited on guitar for this tune, which probably includes the quiet acoustic strums in the background as well, is a guy named Patrick Woodcock, who can be found on a bunch of AIR's very own works.
(Jamaux and AIR have made music together since Orange broke up too, by the way. AIR did a remix of Ollano's "Latitudes," which came out in '97, and Jamaux is credited with the samples on AIR's "Modulor Mix," which was their debut single in 1995.)
So, this track is sort of a mix of past and future, I guess, for Jamaux. It has that AIR quality to it (no pun intended)—and he actually played with those guys when he was a teenager—and despite the fact that he had yet to change the focus of his career to making music for films, "Bye Bye Blues" definitely sounds like it could be used for a movie of some sort; I'm thinking some kind of scene that follows someone's hassle-free, warm, sunny day in a big city: riding the subway, hitting some small shops, getting a bite to eat, walking in a park, you get the idea.
Highly satisfying downtempo tune from the late 90s by this multitalented French musician.

Worldbuilding Intro- Welcome to New Olympus!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Olympius (where my fantasy series Kingdom of Ichor takes place), its capital is New Olympus, which is also the country's largest city! The inspiration/aesthetic of the city is an amalgamation of real world locations like Modern day Greece, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Modern day Rome, Modern day Italy, NYC (New York City), LA (Los Angeles), Miami, London, & many more other places!
Here's some general info about the city:
Near the Lightning Harbor stands a 600 ft glittering Imperial Gold statue of King Zeus (holding his iconic lightning bolt in one hand and an aegis in the other). It's called the Panhellenios Statue, commissioned & built by his son Hephaestus (god of the forge).
It's the most diverse, in terms of population!
Grand Thunder Station is a commuter rail terminal having a connection to the New Olympus Subway. It's a mode of transportation not just throughout the country, but also some direct lines to the Underwater Realm & a single direct line to The Underworld. The terminal's Main Concourse is often used as a meeting place. Grand Thunder Station contains a variety of stores & food vendors- including upscale restaurants, bars, three food halls, and a grocery marketplace. It's a tourist attraction! Grand Thunder covers more than 50 acres & has 45 platforms.
Other modes of transportation include ferries, cabs, buses & trains (courtesy of the NOTA- New Olympus Transit Authority), and even through use of a chariot (pulled by a pegasus).
The Three Kings Bridge is the longest suspension bridge in New Olympus. It's of course inspired by the three main rulers & most powerful gods with each section of the bridge being built out of a different material. One section is built out of Imperial Gold (inspired by Zeus), the middle section being built out of Oceanic Metal (inspired by Poseidon), with the last section built out of adamantine (inspired by Hades).
The governor of the city is a mortal woman named Corinna Sotiropoulou while the mayor is the first of its kind- a satyr named Stathis Spiridakis.
There's the Pantheon Walk of Fame- where five pointed Celestial Bronze & Imperial Gold stars contain the names of the major and minor gods & goddesses. They're embedded in the sidewalks along several blocks of Eaglepoint Boulevard and five blocks of Bolt Street in Downtown New Olympus.
The hearth goddess Hestia's eternal red flame (which never goes out) is a symbol of strength and hope is situated (seemingly juxtaposed) in Acropolis Square.
Acropolis Square is a major commercial intersection, tourist destination, entertainment center, & neighborhood in Midtown New Olympus. Brightly lit by numerous billboards, neon signs, and advertisements, it's often referred to as "The Crossroads of Olympius." It's the second most visited tourist attraction in Olympius (right after the palace on Mt. Olympus) & is the busiest pedestrian area. Notable locations in Acropolis Square includes Acropolis Square Garden (a multi-purpose indoor arena), Mall of Olympius (the largest retail shopping mall in the country), and The Parthenon Theater (the largest movie theater in the city)
* not to be confused with The Parthenon (an architectural feat & temple built to honor the goddess Athena, located in Athens.
Eaglepoint Park is New Olympus' largest urban park, located between the Queenstown & Skyline neighborhoods. It covers over a thousand acres of land- home to the New Olympus Zoo, among other attractions. Another statue of Zeus (built out of marble) with an eagle perched on each of his shoulders is here as well. The Summer Solstice Music Festival also takes place here. All the people of the city and its visitors know better than to mess with the stymphalian birds (carnivorous birds known for their bronze beaks, sharp metallic feathers, & poisonous dung).
Some notable things to eat in New Olympus:
Gyro hot dog- a beef frank folded into two slices of pita bread & topped with tzatziki sauce, feta cheese, cucumber slices, and sliced plum tomatoes.
A bag of spiced olives!
Loukoumades- small fried dough balls usually covered in honey & topped with cinnamon and chopped walnuts
Koulouris- a ring shaped bread garnished with sesame seeds
A bag of assorted dried fruits (usually containing raisins, figs, apricots, & pears) lightly drizzled in honey
Greek frozen yogurt
A box of mini honey cakes!
Dolmades- wrapped grape leaves stuffed with rice, onions, fresh herbs, & pine nuts. Comes with tzatziki dipping sauce & other sauce options.
*The next post will go more in depth into the individual neighborhoods of New Olympus!

Run This Town is a song by the American rapper Jay Z released on 24th July 2009. It features Rihanna and Kanye West. The song won Grammy Award for the Best Rap Song and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards. Song Review and Meaning Jay Z has a knack of finding incredible talent. He got both Rihanna and Kanye signed and both of them went on to become giant superstars. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztygmWtWCjQ The song talks about how power and influence in general. There are also hints in the lyrics and symbols in the video to understand it more clearly. Jay Z, Rihanna and Kanye all had humble beginnings but they rose to prominence and went on to dominate not only the music industry but also the world in general. Music has a lot of influence and they know that people listen to them, admire them and feel inspired by them. Music helped them reach a position that others probably never imagined they would reach. As popular figures, they have power, money and all the connections required in this world. Their fame helped them create businesses in other walks of life as well. So, when Rihanna says 'we're gonna run this town' it implies having influence to a point where in you control the society. All of them while bragging about their wealth and accomplishments also emphasize certain aspects. Jay Z talks about building a family and how connections bring you power. While Kanye's verse is introspective talks about the how it feels once you reach the top. Rihanna is talking about the importance of pushing forward in crisis to reach the top. The music video was filmed at the historic Fort Trotten Park in Queens, New York City. It depicts Jay-Z, Kanye West and Rihanna performing in the midst of what seems like an mob of people wanting to revolt and create chaos. It was directed by Anthony Mandler, who earned Jay-Z's respect with his work on the "Umbrella" video. There's a tone and feeling to the song. There's a militia, a march and a kind of rambunctious energy to it that, for me, I immediately wanted to tap into. I showed [Jay] some references from the classic rebellious zones of the world. We live in a very orderly society in America, but when you get into Brazil, you get into the Middle East, you get into Africa, you get into Eastern Europe, when you get into places like that, there's a different sort of 'we run this town' [going on]. There's less order and more chaos. So we looked at a lot of those references, new photos and historical photos, to capture that kind of falling-apart feeling. Anthony Mandler on 'Run This Town' Overall, a very entertaining song to listen to. The song was quite ahead of its time and the things they talked about are relevant even today. All three of them did a great job on the lyrics. The rhythm and melody was on point as well. Let me know what you think of the song in the comments below.
