Lightning Bug - Chapter 23

Warning: sleep deperivation, a form of self harm, gay panic
Word count: 2.3k
The ringing of a bell announced your arrival at Lucia’s store. “I’ll be right with you,” her voice traveled from the back of the store.
“Take your time; it’s just me,” you called out and headed to the history section. You wanted to add supplemental reading on the topic you and Vision started. He said you would have to complete a project so you thought it was a good idea to get head start. You enjoyed your lesson with Vision as he taught you about early civilizations in India. After your time with Vision, it was straight into the training room with Maria. She was…intense, for lack of a better word. She discovered your limit and pushed you to reach past it. It made sense why she was Nick’s right-hand woman. You were thankful for the peace of Lucia’s shop.
“Hello, mjia,” Lucia said, holding a stack of books. You took the top few from her.
“Hi, how are you?” You asked and began to put the books away. You missed working here, the mundane action and it was an excellent way to shut your brain off.
“Busy since my best employee left me for the Avengers,” she teased and returned to her desk. You rolled your eyes and followed her with the books you picked out in your hand.
“I was your only employee, senora,” you said. “You may need to hire someone.” She mumbled something in Spanish you missed. You bite your lip as you grab a notebook from a pile on her desk labeled ‘free.’ “Can I ask you something?”
“Of course, child,” you sighed, handing her the books you wanted to check out.
“Have you noticed anything weird going on in the neighborhood?” You asked. She looked at you curiously.
“Define weird,” you took the books from her and placed them in the bag you brought.
“Like people going missing and talking about me.” You quickly summarized. Lucia sighed, doing the sign of the cross across her chest. You should have kept your mouth shut.
“I noticed some regulars that usually show up on Tuesday meetings haven’t been around,” you frowned. Every Tuesday night, Lucia held events for people experiencing homelessness in the community. You could study, get help with resumes, or have a quiet place to be.
“I’m guessing the police don’t care, right?” She nodded. That was typical. The NYPD never cared about you or the others who lived on the street. “Thank you. If you hear anything else, let me know.”
“I will, but be careful,” she said. “I fear something dark is coming our way.”
*
You took the notebook from Lucia and threw the bag onto the floor. With a sigh, you climbed into bed. There was so much information running through your head. The weird warning by Caesar and Lucia noticed people disappearing. What was going on? You began to write everything in the notebook and how you were connected to all of this.
None of it made sense. You were a nobody. People recognized you because of your appearance or saw you as an easy target. You were someone now because the Avengers took you in. You bite the end of the pencil. If it had to do with the Avengers, why target you?
“Miss. Y/n,” Friday said. “Just as a reminder, you have a meeting with Mr. Stark and Mr. Banner.” You sighed and stood up, placing the notebook underneath your pillow. The last thing you wanted was to have a math lesson, but you packed your bag and headed for the lab.
*
“Is everything okay?” Pepper asked, causing you to look up from the tablet you were working on. After math, it was your internship with Pepper. Math was well math. Bruce and Tony made it enjoyable, but you still needed clarification. Once you were done, you stopped in the kitchen for a snack and walked to Pepper’s office. She explained that your internship would include a lot of the work you were already plus attending some meetings to take minutes and designing presentations. “You’ve been oddly quiet.” You sighed and tapped your thumbs against the screen.
“I went to see Lucia, the owner of a bookstore I used to go to a lot,” you started. “She said many of the regulars that go to weekly events haven’t shown up. No one knows where they are,” she frowned and closed her laptop.
“Have they reported it to the police?” You rolled your eyes with a huff.
“The police don’t care about us,” you admitted. “Besides, it’s hard to report a missing person when people come and go so much. There was a guy named Larry; he would disappear for 5 months, then come back and act like nothing happened.” The CEO sighed, folding her hands on top of her desk.
“Well, I’ll talk to Tony. Maybe he can put some pressure on the local police.” You stared at the CEO, blinking once, then twice. You weren’t sure what would come of it telling Pepper, but getting the Avengers involved was not it.
“Tony probably has other things going on,” you said, trying to deter from involving the billionaire. “More important things.” You added to prevent her from asking him.
“The Avengers are here to help people,” she stated. “Especially those in our backyard,” she smiled and reopened her laptop. “Do you care about this?” You were a little surprised by the question. You nodded; even though they weren’t the nicest to you, they were still people. And these people had someone who cared about them. “Then it’s settled. I’ll talk to Tony tomorrow.” You smiled.
“Thank you, Pepper.”
“Don’t mention it,” she smirked. “Now, get back to work,” she teased. You giggled and got back to work. If the Avengers were involved, you could get more than answers on where all these people were going. Could you figure out what else was going on?
*
You stared up at the ceiling, hands behind your head and music softly playing from the Walkman. Dinner was filled with questions about your first day of ‘school’, then Natasha and Wanda ensured all your homework was done before you went to bed. However, sleep was not going to happen. You couldn’t turn off your brain. You kept reliving the past few days. Turning off the music, you quietly left your room. Once again, your socked-covered feet led you to the training room. Like clockwork, you uncovered the machine and ensured empty batteries were ready to charge.
You faced the machine head-on and felt the electricity dance around your fingertips, but you refused to release it. Inside, you let the electricity grow and felt the warmth that radiated off of it. For the longest time, that warmth scared you. You associated that warmth with a punishment, but now you like it. It was another reminder that you were free.
You shot your hand forward and released the charge until the batteries were full. You repeated the process until your body began to feel tired, and your mind was blanketed. You knew you would sleep through the night.
*
Unfortunately, you felt stuck in a cycle. Classes, training, homework, and your nightly visit to the machine so you could get sleep. Was it healthy? Yes? At least you weren’t yourself. You were depleting your powers to force your mind into a dreamless sleep. There was no danger to your hippocampus, and you used your powers to help others.
On the fifth day of this self-made schedule, you were running on empty. Every word Vision was saying about the ancient world wasn’t registering. Your brain was mush. “Miss. Y/n,” you jerked awake at the conversation change. The man was smiling. “That’s the third time you’ve fallen asleep. Is the caste system of Ancient India not entertaining enough for you?” He teased.
“No, it is,” you defended. “And you are doing a great job. I just-“Vision chuckled, closing the book. “You are mean.”
“Go get some rest,” he said. “I’ll speak with the others and cancel your lessons for the day.” Oh, you could give him the biggest hug.
“You are amazing,” you shoved your books into your backpack. “Thank you so much!”
“Your health is more important than a civilization that’s been long gone,” you giggled, thanked him again, and took the elevator to your floor. It was thankfully empty as you made a beeline for your room. Throwing your backpack on the ground, you flopped onto the bed and fell fast asleep.
Persistent knocking on your door woke you up. You groaned, rubbing the sleep out of your eyes. “Come in,” you called out, not bothering to sit up. When the door opened, you saw America walk into your room. You rolled over to make room as she ran and jumped on your bed.
“Hi,” she said.
“Hi,” you closed your eyes. “I was sleeping.”
“I know,” she giggled. Unbelievable. “But you’ve been so busy we haven’t hung out, so when Vision told me you were excused from your lessons, I came running,” you opened your eyes, and her head was turned to look at you. “Hi,” America smiled.
“You are a dork,” you said, rolling on your back and ignoring how your stomach flipped. “So what do you have in mind?” The bed shifted as you heard her get up. She grabbed your hand and pulled you into a sitting position. The smile she wore now was bigger, a little mischievous. “America,” you said slowly.
“Do you trust me?” She asked. You sighed, nodding your head.
“Yeah, I trust you.” She jumped from your bed and crackled your knuckles. Oh boy. Her eyes began to glow a light blue, a similar color and look to your electricity. You scrambled off your bed as she punched at your wall. A giant star formed, matching the style of some of her clothes. What surprised you was you saw people walking around - going about their day-to-day life as if a star wasn’t right next to them.
“Is this a portal-”
“To the multiverse?” You nodded. “Yeah, it is,” she held out her hand. “I did ask if you trusted me.” You laughed, took her hand, and allowed her to pull you through the portal. It closed behind you, and you were on a sidewalk similar to New York City. Nothing seemed out of place.
“Are you sure-” You saw cars flying in the sky. Your jaw dropped. “How is this possible?”
“It’s the multiverse, silly,” she dragged you down the sidewalk, where you saw inventions from every sci-fi book you’ve read - flying cars, hoverboards, and hologram phones. “Christianity never existed here,” she pulled you closer so she could whisper. “So the Dark Age never occurred, and humanity is 1000 years more advanced.”
“This is-” You were struggling to find a word to describe everything happening around you.
“I know,” she squeezed your hand. “It’s kind of crazy, but you get used to it.” You were curious to know if you would ever get used to it. “Let’s go get some food and explore.”
While you ate ‘pizza,’ you were curious if they called it something else here; America gave you the rules of multiverse travel. The biggest thing was not to cause an incursion - when the boundary between two universes erodes, and they collide, destroying one or both. When asked how to avoid that, America said it occurs with prolonged travel within the multiverse. “So we won’t stay long,” she took your hand and rang out of the restaurant.
Something about spending time with America outside the tower was different. She was always smiling around the others, but her smile was unlike her usual smile. It wasn’t as large and softer - she seemed happier. Was it because she was using her powers so freely? Or was it because it was just you and her? No team. No prying eyes. But no, you couldn’t think like that. America deserved someone better than you. Someone who wasn’t broken, scarred, and haunted so profoundly by their past. It was unfair to her.
“Y/n!” She yelled your name, and suddenly, her body crashed into yours, and you began to fall. Your back never made contact with the concrete sidewalk instead you saw the outline of her star as you fell into another timeline. You knew something was wrong by the way America held onto you; bruises were going to form on your arms.
Each time you expected to stop falling, the ground never came. Your stomach was flipping as you flew between different portals. It was never-ending as the world kept changing around you. For a split second, it was black and white, then hand-drawn. Were you in a jungle? You weren’t sure, but you wanted it to stop! You felt the grip America had on you loosen as she pushed you forward.
Time slowed down as you flipped through space and headed toward a portal. “America!” You yelled for her. It was impossible to control your body as you flew through the portal. You expected to keep falling, but your back hit a hard wooden floor - the air was knocked out of your lungs. Coughing a few times, another portal appeared above you, and you rolled out of the way before America landed on you.
“Thanks for breaking my fall,” she groaned. You sat up, rubbing the back of your head. The world was still spinning, and you felt sick to your stomach.
“Where are we?” You were sitting at the bottom of a tall staircase. The floor was wooden with a circular design, and you liked the blue. You saw a few areas to sit at. America sat up quickly, eyes wide and the color draining from her face.
“The where is subjective,” a mysterious voice said. “But I do know you are in a lot of trouble.”

America Chavez x GN Reader

America decided to stay on Earth-199999 and she will be trained by Dr. Strange. You became friends with her and you spent more time with her almost every day. But she started to develop feelings for you, but she hasn't told you. She does smile more when you are around her and she tries to flirt with you but doesn't go well.
“So, Halloween doesn't exist on your Earth?” You asked.
“No. So why do people celebrate Halloween?” America asked.
“Just to have fun. Some people like to wear costumes and go to parties and everyone gets free candies also people just like the treats” You said.
“That doesn't sound boring. Why do people ask for candies?” America said.
“It just became a tradition to ask for candies. Oh, you should celebrate Halloween! We can wear costumes” You said.
She starts to think about it.
“Okay!” America smiled.
“Awesome” You smiled back at her.
While walking to the store, she starts to talk about her training. She is getting stronger but has a lot to learn, you can see that she has a strong bond with Dr. Strange. While in the store, you two start to look around and you help decide what to wear. You got your costume but she hasn't decided what to wear. It took a while for her to pick a costume but she finally did it. Later, you and America went to get something to eat. She starts to ask what makes you attracted to someone and you start to tell her. But you didn't notice that she is into you.
✫ ✯ ✫ ✯
It's Halloween, and you are dressed as Sully from Monster Inc. America is dressed as Luigi and you take a selfie with her. You went to a party with her and Peter is happy to see you and America.
“Who are you dressed as?” America asked.
“I’m dressed as Han Solo from Star Wars” Peter smiled.
“What is a Han Solo?” America asked.
“Y/n, please tell me that she is joking,” Peter said.
“On her earth, Star Wars doesn't exist,” You said.
“Well, that explains it. Okay, Star Wars is about-”
Peter started to ramble on about what is Star Wars. But America got confused she didn't understand who are the characters or what is a jedi.
“Peter! Next time, we will show her the movies. Breathe and let's take a break from talking about Star Wars” You said.
“Okay. There are drinks and food in the kitchen” Peter smiled.
“Okay,” You and America said.
You and America are starting to have fun. Wanda and her kids are at the party, Wanda isn't after America or Dr. Strange anymore. Wanda just said hi to you and America then walked away.
“So no more fighting?” You asked.
“No. We worked it out and she doesn't hate me” America said.
You don't dance but America tries to convince you to dance.
“Come on, Y/n it will be fun,” America said.
“I don't know how to dance,” You said.
“It will be fun, Y/n,” America said.
“Okay, fine” You smiled.
She tells you to let loose and just have fun. You are starting to hesitate and she gently grabbed your hands. You start to dance and you are feeling very nervous about it, but she encourages you to keep dancing. You and America keep smiling at each other while dancing.
Later, you and America went to get something to eat in the kitchen.
“I’m really liking Halloween,” America said.
“That’s good to know,” You said.
You and America are standing very close to each other. She leans in and kissed you on the lips, she gently put her hand on your cheek and kept kissing you. She pulled away and you are speechless, it felt like your heart was beating much louder than the music.
“Y/n, I really like you a lot. I wanted to kiss you for so long” America said.
“Wow... America I-I”
“I get it, you don't feel the same way,” America said.
She started to walk away fast, she is leaving the party. You start to chase after her, then start to use her magic to leave but you grabbed her arm and pulled her towards you.
“America, I have feelings for you too. When you kissed me... I was caught off guard but I liked the kiss” You said.
“You mean it?” America asked.
“Yeah, I mean it. I wouldn't lie to you about my feelings and I want to kiss you again” You smiled.
“Me too, I want to kiss you again” America smiled.
She wrapped her arms around you and you start to kiss her.
“Do you want to go on a date with me?” America asked.
“Yeah, I would go on a date with you. Wait, does this mean you are my girlfriend?” You said.
“Yeah, I will be your girlfriend,” America said.
You kissed her again and she starts to smile then she kissed you back. But, you leave the party with her and went to get pizza. While walking to get pizza, she would hold your hand. You and America can't stop smiling about what just happened.

You weren’t a jealous person. Well, you mean, you are a little but only over one person. America Chavez. She has been your crush since you were 8 years old. You were positive that she didn’t like you back, so you never mentioned your crush to her.
Every time she got with a girl; you were always hurt. You never showed your hurt towards her though, you always kept it hidden.

You sighed loudly, flopping down on America’s bed, making her laugh at how dramatic you are.
“Tough day?” She asked, scooting closer to you so she could see you.
You nodded. Even though you were one of the youngest Avengers, they still made you spar with one of their best fighters, Natasha. God was she rough on you. You reckon you had gathered 5 bruises from sparring with her today.
“I think I’m dying.” You groaned when America pressed on your bruised thigh.
“Oh, she got you good. That’s a big one.” America muttered, lightly running her fingers along your stomach.
“She’s so mean to me.” You pouted.
America laughed, pulling herself up to lean against the bed head. “You’re a big baby.”
You shook your head with a smile. You loved America’s laugh. It had to be one of your favourite sounds.
“We should watch all the Descendant movies later.” You moved yourself closer to America and rested your head on her thigh.
America hummed, “If Stephen doesn’t want me to train with him, yes.”

Stephen did want America to train with him. You still really wanted to watch a movie with her, so you stayed up till 9pm until she came back to her room.
You were half asleep when America barraged through the doors, tears rolling down her face.
Your head shot up from the pillow when you felt America curl into your side and hide her face into your neck. Her sobs filled the room.
“Hey, hey. You okay? What happen?”
America shook her head, unable to get any words out through her cries.
“Breathe, America.” You scratched the back of her neck with your fingers. “Are you hurt? Talk to me.”
“She- she cheated on me.” She cried out.
America has been dating a girl called Angela for the past 7 months. You always felt this weird vibe coming from her.
“I found out because I tried opening a portal to her and saw her making out with her best friend!” She exclaimed, her grip around you tightening.
You didn’t know what to say so you kept running your fingers up to her neck and down her back to calm her down. 15 minutes later, she was passed out on her chest from all the crying.
Her phone that was sitting on her nightstand started to blow up from text messages.
my girl <;3: america im so so sorry. i swear we are just friends. her boyfriend broke up with her and she needed a distraction
my girl <;3: can you come over? i want to talk about it
You scoffed at her messages.
my girl <;3: stop leaving me on read
You quickly picked up America’s phone and snapped a photo of America sleeping on your chest.
You: sorry, shes sleeping rn
You giggled at yourself. You sounded like one of those over-protective, toxic male best friends but you didn’t really care.

You weren’t sure when you drifted off to sleep but you woke up to America softly shaking your shoulder.
“Y/n?” She whispered.
“Yeah?” You groaned, rubbing the sleep out of your eyes.
“Can I kiss you?”
Your brain didn’t even fully understand her question until her soft lips were on yours. You immediately reciprocated the kiss.
You kept mentally telling yourself, “You’re just a rebound, you’re just a rebound.” But you couldn’t pull away. You’ve wanted to kiss her for so many years, and it was finally happening.
“I love you, Y/n.” America whispered when you both broke apart for air.
You shook your head with a sad laugh, “We shouldn’t have done that. You’re just using me as a distraction to take that pain away.”
America pressed her forehead against yours, sighing softly “I’m not using you as a distraction, Y/N/N.”
You scoffed, “Your girlfriend just cheated on you and now you’re kissing me? Yeah, right.”
America placed her hand on your cheek and looked you in the eye. “She was the distraction.”
Your eyebrows furrowed, “What?”
You swear America was head over heels for Angela. She would constantly talk about her to you, was always facetiming her or going on cute little dates. No way did you believe she was just a distraction.
“She was a distraction. I mean, I did love her but not as much as I should have.” America explained, almost like it was obvious. “And I know that sounds extremely evil of me but when I was dating her, I didn’t realise I was using her as a distraction until she cheated on me.”
“You literally get every girl you want, why are you using her as a distraction?”
America glanced away from you and sucked in a breath, “I didn’t get one girl.”
“Who?”
“You.”
You stared at her in shock. Was she being serious? Or was she just messing with you. It felt impossible that the girl you’ve liked for half your life likes you back.
“You expect me to believe that you like me?” You acted defensive in case she was just lying to embarrass you.
America nodded, “I love everything about you. I love your voice, the way you laugh. I love whenever you crack those stupid, stupid jokes. You’re just so perfect and so fucking beautiful, Y/n.” Her lips curled into a smile at the bright blush that covered your face.
“Then why didn’t you ask me out?”
“The only reason why I didn’t ask you out was because I thought you were straight. You never mentioned a girl and every time I bought a girl around, you acted sour. I thought you were kinda homophobic.”
Your jaw dropped, “Me?! Homophobic? Gosh, America. I’m offended, I’m literally gay!”
America grinned and shook her head, “Then will you be my girlfriend?”
“Yes.” You answered in a heartbeat.
America squealed in excitement, kissing your face repeatedly. You laughed, rolling over so she was laying on top of you.
“I still can’t believe you thought I was homophobic AND straight.”
America laughed, “I’m sorryyy. How can I make it up?”
You thought for a moment, “Watching all three Descendant movies with me?”

“Deal."

I Just Wanted Some Cheetos
This ones about my girlfriend, America Chavez america x fem!reader no warnings; it's just fluf
this girl literally owns my heart I swear
Tumblr media
"America!" I saw America walking across the road as I ran up to her to catch up. She swiftly turned around to look at me from the other side of the road and smiled. We waited for the light to turn green as I crossed the street to meet with her.
"Hola bae, I just finished practice for the day. Boutta go home right now," she said, walking right next to me, hand in hand. I looked to the left of me to see the black bag she was holding as it swung forward and backward as she walked.
"What's in the bag?" I asked with fake suspicion in my tone; it looked like a deli bag, and if my girlfriend was gonna eat snacks, best believe I'm eating with her. "Girl, it's Cheetos," she said, laughing. I swung an arm over her shoulder as I re-directed her in the opposite direction we were walking in.
"Then you best believe we gonna go back and buy me a bag too, and a danish," I said, sounding like it was obvious what we were doing. She looked at me like I was crazy as she swung us back around to the original direction we were walking in, "Um, no ma'am, my legs hurt, and I'm broke."
"You got snacks at your crib?"
"Nah, we're out until next weekend."
"Then turn your ass around so we can get me a bag of Cheetos."
I swung us around and shoved her in the direction of the deli, which held beloved snacks.
"You know what's better than Cheetos?" she asked me. I shook my head no, ready to answer with a sarcastic remark to shut her down. All I wanted were some Cheetos, man.
But before I could get what I wanted to say out, she beat me by saying one word, which made me forget everything.
"Postmates."
Now she had my attention.
"Like anything I want?"
"Anything your pretty heart desires, we will postmate it."
I stood there, fake contemplating if I should accept her offer or not, but she and I both knew the answer I was gonna say.
"Fine. But we're getting Popeyes!"

--------------
America pushed around the food on her tray. Watching as the green beans turned into a mash mess. She looked up, watching the view of you and…him. As he tried to steal some of your mash potatoes while you swatted his hand away. Laughing, he tucked an arm around you to reach them.
She rolled her eyes, bringing them back down to focus on her own mash potatoes. She scooped them up with a spoon. Her face scrunched at the taste. She never got why you liked them so much. And she never understood why you liked Jeremy. Even his name was dumb. And it was a J one. That should give you a hint, right? No apparently not.
But apparently he was your ‘number 1 bestie.’ So she couldn’t do anything about him. Not even about the fact that he was completely in love with you but you were too blind to see that.
Well at least you weren’t bilnd enough to notice that she had liked you. America looked back up at you. Noticing the hand that was previously shooing Jeremy away was no longer occupied. She reached across the table to take it in hers. You glanced at her for a moment, a smile growing on your face. You turned back to Jeremy, rubbing your thumb across her knuckles.
The topic had been brought up before by her. How Jeremy was blatantly flirting with you in front of her all the time. You dismissed it saying that even if that was true. No way would you reciprocate. It took a lot of coaxing from you but you got America to believe you. Stating that if it continues to happen let her know and you would tell him to knock it off.
She was tempting to tell you it was continuing to happen. But sweet oblivious you just couldn't recognize it.
The lunch bell rang making the group of you rise and go dump your trays. America waited for you to be done, standing with her arms crossed as you chatted a few final sentences to Jeremy.
“I’ll see you after school then, right? To work on the science project?” She overheard him ask. You nodded, agreeing to meet him out front. She furrowed her brows. What project? You didn’t tell her about any project. And tonight you were working on it? You said that the two of you would be going out for ice cream after school.
“What happened to ice cream?” she asked in a murmur as you approached her. Jeremy going in his own direction to a different class. Your eyes widened in realization.
“Oh, crap. I’m sorry I completely forgot. Jeremy and I were assigned a project in science earlier and it’s like thirty percent of our grade. I was just focused on getting it done as soon as possible so as to not turn it in late,” you explained. She bit her lip, nodding her head.
America started walking down the hall. You furrowed your brows, jogging lightly to catch up. Slipping her hand yours, you bumped her shoulder lightly.
“What’s up? You were quiet during lunch and you’re being quiet now,” you asked. She rolled her eyes briefly.
“Sorry, I didn’t want to interrupt your and Jeremy’s conversation. You guys seemed pretty fixated on each other.” You paused in your step before pulling America to the side so as to not get in the other students' way.
“Is that what this is about?” you questioned, “Are you really worried about Jeremy still?” She was silent, shuffling her feet anxiously. You sighed, tipping her chin up to look at you. “I told you nothing is going on between me and him. He’s just a friend. I told you this.” America scoffed.
“Better tell him that, cause I don’t think he gets the memo with the amount of heart eyes he sends your way.” You opened your mouth to respond but she cut you off. “I know you said he’s just a friend, but the amount of times he’s flirted with you when I’m right next to you. And the fact you guys are going to be at his house, alone. I’m not even upset about the ice cream. It’s about what he's going to do when I’m not there,” she explained, taking both of your hands in hers.
“He’s not going to do anything," you reassured her. “And if he does its not like I’m going to give him what he wants. I get he can be a little touchy and his words aren't always the best choices but there’s nothing behind it. Jeremy’s a flirty guy, it’s just what he does. I guess after so long I got used to it and just don’t really notice it.” You pulled her closer, resting your arms on her shoulders. “I’m sorry you feel this way, but America I swear you are the only one I’m into. No way am I gonna fall for Jeremy. I mean come on he has a J name, everyone knows that's a red flag.” America broke into a fit of giggles.
“That’s what I was thinking,” she replied. The two of you stood in a nearly empty hall, laughing to each other as her hands fell to your waist. Once everything was called down she rested her forehead on yours. “You promise?” she asked in a mumbled. You nodded.
“You’re the only one for me,” you stated, moving to kiss her cheek. However the bell rang just as you went. A teacher stepped out of his classroom, scanning the hall his eyes landed on the two of you. Taking in the close proximity the two of you were at.
“Really? Making out in the hallways. I thought that was left in the 90s,” he rolled his eyes, “Detention after school,” he stated pointing at the two of you before going back to his room.
You turned back to America, the two of you once again falling into a fit of giggles.
“Well, looks like I’m not going to be going to Jeremy’s after all,” you laughed.
“Ice cream after detention?” America asked. You nodded.
“Only if we can convince Wong to sneak us out early. The shop closes at four.”

America Chavez x Reader: Signature Jacket
Hi loves! I'm on an America kick rn. I dressed up as her for my 2nd Halloween costume lol (my first was Harley Quinn).
Description: Reader is jealous of everybody's personalized statement jackets.
Gender: neutral! No pronouns used!
WARNINGS: being a lil anxious
This is a young avengers fic.
Tumblr media
*not my gif*
You are sitting with all the avengers at dinner. Everyone is enjoying their Mac and cheese, but something is on your mind.
"America, where'd you get your jean jacket?" You suddenly ask.
Everyone looks at you sort of confused.
"Uh, I found the jacket in some universe and thrifted it." She says.
"Kamala, where'd you get yours?"
Kamala shrugs. "I dunno. Found the jacket and embroidered the patches on."
You sigh.
"Why do you ask?" Kamala almost sarcastically asks, knowing you'll tell them what you want anyway.
"Cause I want a signature jacket but I don't have any sewing or clothing abilities." You frown.
"Mine was mostly how it came." Yelena says.
You glare at her. "Nu-uh. You added more pockets."
"That is true," she concludes as she adds more hot sauce (A/N: I literally CANNOT remember what she actually added for the life of me and I can't find the episode script anywhere, if someone could pls lmk that would be great).
"I can't just buy something, then it wouldn't be cool and authentic like all of yours." You pout.
💫
A few weeks later, you are lying in your bed watching something on the TV that you honestly couldn't care less about. It is 1am, you're tired but you can't sleep and you're so unexplainably lonely for no reason.
Suddenly, there's a knock on your door, literally making you jump so hard you drop the sleeve of crackers sitting next to you onto the floor.
"Shit," you whisper as you stand up, careful to avoid making the crackers a bigger mess. "Who the hell is knocking on my door at this god-forsaken hour of the morning."
By this time, the sleep deprivation has set in so you sound like a founding father turned into a goblin.
You open the door to see America standing there. Your heart immediately skips a beat. Your hair is a mess, there's crackers on the floor, and you've turned into your nightly maniac doppleganger and now your crush decides to come knocking?! Now she wants to talk?! Not all the times you deliberately dressed up when you knew she was coming over and put on makeup and brushed your teeth!
Of course. No, this makes perfect sense.
"Hi?" You try to bring your crazy voice down a few notches.
"Hi, um," she shifts. "I wanted to bring you this."
She pulls from behind her back a jean jacket hoodie (whatever those things are actually called). It has little hearts stained onto the sleeves and a few of the buttons have little smiley faces on them and embroidered to the front is your superhero logo.
You blink for a moment. America shifts again nervously.
"You uh-" she clears her throat. "You said you wanted a jacket and so I just, um, found this one and added some stuff but if you don't like it that's okay. This was stupid, I shouldn't of-"
"No," you cut her off, taking the jacket out of her hands. "I love it." You beam.
"Really?" She looks so relieved. Why is she this stressed over talking to you?
"Yes! It's so cool!" You squeal. Before you know what you're doing, your muscles move and you pull America into a hug.
You blush when you realize what you've done. But only a second later, her arms wrap around you. A little smile grows on your face.
"This is the sweetest thing anyone's ever done for me." You practically whisper. Why are you whispering? You pull out of the hug. "Thank you so much. I-"
The words die on your tongue as you see America's eyes flick down to your lips for just a second. You can feel yourself leaning closer to her and you think she's leaning too. Then, you lips connect ever so gently and sweetly.
"Ten bucks!" Kamala's voice scares both of you, causing you to bump foreheads. America's eyes immediately widen as she touches your forehead to make sure you're okay.
Your heart doesn't know what to do.
"Да пошла ты, сука. Don't be so cocky." Yelena yells back. "You only won by two days!"
"Haha," Kamala taunts. "You wish you won by two days."
"You bet on us?" You finally lay eyes on Kalama who was not even trying to hide.
"Well, yeah. Not like you wouldn't do the same if you were us."
"I'm moving out tonight." You declare, grabbing America's wrist and gently guiding her inside your door before slamming it shut.
You both burst into little giggles. You love this family.
Thx for reading, don't steal!

Lightning Bug - Chapter 25
Tumblr media
Masterlist
Warning: mention of past trauma, self-hatred, fluff lots and lots of fluff, lying (but like it's for a surprise), almost first kiss
Word Count: 4.8k
“Could this have not waited at a more reasonable time?” Tony asked, sipping on a cup of coffee. Natasha fought an eye roll and a snarky comment that threatened to fall from her lips. It was 10:45 pm. Yelena snorted
“Please, Stark,” she said. “It’s not like you sleep anyways.” Her sister beat her to the comment she was going to make. Natasha wanted to have this meeting much earlier. Getting the young girl absent from this little get-together and who this meeting was about was challenging. The Black Widow blamed it on the candy Maria, who was slipping her candy during the movie. Sam, Wanda, and herself were standing in front of the team.
“We’ll keep this quick,” Sam said. “The three of us learned recently that Y/n has never celebrated her birthday.”
“She doesn’t even know the day she was born.” It made Natasha’s blood boil at the girl’s confession. She could tell it bothered her more than she wanted to let on.
“That is..”
“Not surprising,” Vision finished off Steve’s trailed-off sentence. “FRIDAY couldn’t find any official document of her birth. It’s no shock that her parents never disclosed that information.” Parents were a loose way to describe who those people were to her. Hell, Alexei and Melina were better parents to her and Yelena, and they were brought together for a Red Room mission.
“So,” America said, a smile creeping up to her face. Natasha had a feeling she knew the direction this conversation was headed. “When are we throwing her a party?”
“That’s what we wanted to discuss,” the Black Widow said. “Are we cool with throwing her a party?” Maria rolled her eyes with a shake of her head.
“Please, Nat, you could have said, ‘I want to do something for Y/n,’ and we would agree to help,” the agent smiled. “That girl has us all wrapped around her finger.”
“We would do anything to see her smile,” Bucky added. “What’s the plan?”
*
Somehow, Natasha and Wanda crept back into their bed without waking the teen. The young girl seemed to find her way into their bed rather than her own. Natasha couldn’t care less. At least now the couple knew she was sleeping. The bed shifting under the weight caused her eyes to flutter open. “Is it morning?” The teen groaned. Natasha chuckled.
“No, we still have more hours to sleep.” She flipped on her back and glanced between the couple.
“Why are you up then?” She asked, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. Her lips were in a pout, which had Natasha biting her lip to stop herself from laughing.
“Just an Avengers meeting,” Wanda said. “Nothing to worry about, so go back to sleep.” It was a white lie, but Natasha hated lying to her even though it was for a surprise. She watched the cogs turn in the girl’s head, almost seeing smoke coming from her ears.
“Are you guys leaving for a mission?” Natasha shook her head. “Good, because I don’t want to lose my cuddle buddies.” Her eyes began to close, and she moved her body closer to Natasha.
“We aren’t going anywhere, molniyenosnyy zhuk (lightning bug),” Natasha promised, kissing her on top of her head. Overall, it was a good plan. Pepper was responsible for booking vendors so no one had to cook or serve drinks. Maria and Tony were sending out invites to the rest of the team. Kate, America, and Yelena had the most important job of getting their friend out of the tower while the party was being sent up; Wanda and Sam were doing decorations. There was some underlying fear that Y/n would hate the party and shut down on them. It was amazing to see the progress. Natasha felt her girlfriend’s hand on her hip and squeezed it reassuringly. Now, she had to figure out the perfect girl for her.
*
“Guys,” you whined as you followed your friends through the busy New York City sidewalk. “Guys, I have homework to do!” When you finished your lessons, Yelena dragged you to the elevator and down to the garage, where America and Kate were waiting. They kidnapped you for a lack of a better word and now were leading you to an undisclosed location.
“Not today you don’t,” Kate smiled, lopping her arm with yours. “We got big plans.”
“I don’t even know what those plans are.” America lopped your free arm with hers this time, and you were sandwiched between the duo.
“Just trust us,” she smiled. The last time you trusted one of them, you we were freefalling through the multiverse and throwing up in a wizard’s cauldron, making you a little nervous. They were acting odd. It was customary for Kate and America to be on another energy level, but even Yelena had a pep in her step.
“I trust you,” Against your better judgment, you did.
*
“What am I even looking for?” You asked Yelena as you pushed through racks of clothes. They took you to Macey’s, a store you never dared to enter when you lived on the streets. Now, instead, you were a little overwhelmed and lost.
“Just pick whatever you think you’ll like,” she said as if it was the simplest thing in the world. It took more work. You groaned, and Yelena chuckled at your misery. “Look, finding your style will take time and a lot of trial and error. There is no wrong answer.”
It was how you found yourself in a changing room with Yelena on the other side of the door. You had yet to learn where America and Kate ran off to. You were changing into camo cargo pants and a black shirt. The sizing was the most challenging part because you gained a healthy weight while living at the tower. “I heard Pepper asking Tony about missing people reports in the houseless community,” Yelena said. “I’m guessing that was what you were doing.” You checked the outfit in the mirror, liking the pants but not the shirt. You opened the door. “Yes to the pants, but no to the shirt.”
“I thought the same thing,” you said and closed the door to change. “And yeah, that was me. Two people have said something to me about people going missing, so I brought it up to Pepper,” you shrugged and changed out of the outfit. Next was a pair of jeans and a graphic shirt, cut shorter than you were used to. You liked both. Opening the door, Yelena glanced up from her phone.
“Yes to both,” you smiled, nodding. Again, you went back into the room.
“Do you know if they found anything?” You asked. Yelena sighed.
“Not sure, I think Tony is being,” she paused. “What’s the word? Stone floor?” You giggled and checked out the next outfit. You liked the shirt but the shorts were a weird cut to them.
“I think you mean stonewalled,” you opened the door. “Means to be uncooperative.”
“Nerd,” the blonde teased with no actual malice. She tilted her head as she looked at the outfit you were wearing. “Yes to the shorts, no to the shirt.”
“Really?” You questioned, looking in the mirror one more time. “I thought the opposite.” You closed the door and put the shirt in the yes pile and the shorts in the maybe. The final outfit was out of your comfort zone. It was a black and white plaid skirt (Yelena was excited that it had pockets) and a black-sleeved shirt that came down to your elbows. Yelena picked out a pair of black vans to complete the look. Before your mind spiraled, you put it on quickly and looked in the mirror. The cut of the skirt seemed too short, and all of your scars seemed to be displaced. “Okay,” you said. “Don’t laugh at this one. How do I-” You opened the door, and instead of Yelena, America was there with a little bag by her feet. “Oh, hi.” You watched as her eyes looked you up and down. Her gaze made you feel self-conscious.
“You look beautiful,” she said.
“Oh,” you squeaked and felt warm, embarrassed by the sound escaping your lips. “No one has called me that before.” You were ugly, a monstrosity, but never beautiful. America was quick to her feet and stood in front of you.
“It’s the truth,” she said, taking your hands. You couldn’t look at her when she was this close, so you stared at your connected hands. “I would never lie to you.” She softly spoke those words, and your head snapped to look at her. It was hard to keep eye contact with her as her eyes flickered down to your lips and then back to your eyes. There was no way she couldn’t hear how fast your heart was beating or the way your hands clammed up. Slowly, she leaned forward as if waiting for you to pull away. But you weren’t going to.
“Hey, are you almost ready?” you jumped back at the sound of Kate’s voice entering the changing room. “Damn,” she whistled. “You look good. You should wear that tonight.” She glanced between you and America, who immediately sat back in the chair. “Did I interrupt something?”
“Nope!” You quickly said. “Yeah, I’m ready. Let me change.” You slammed the door closed, cringing slightly at the sound. Your hands wouldn’t stop shaking as you tried to take the outfit off. America was going to kiss you. She was going to kiss you, and you would let her! Back in your clothes, you rested your head on the door. It took a few deep breaths to calm your racing heart. Wait. Pause. Kate said tonight. What was happening tonight?
*
After Macey’s, Yelena drove all of you to Kate’s apartment, which she still had in the city. They only used it when they wanted a break from the team, which America was slightly offended by. Pizza was waiting for the group, and Kate told you you had about an hour to get ready. She said the Young Avengers were throwing a party on Peter’s floor, and even Kamala was journeying to the city. So you ate pizza, watched the fashion show that Kate and America put on, and changed into the skirt and shirt combo.
The hour flew by, and you were riding the elevator up to Peter’s floor, anxiously biting your lip. “Hey,” America linked her pinky with yours. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah,” you smiled. “Just a little -wait,” you noticed the button for Peter’s floor wasn’t pressed, but the common floor was. “What’s going on?” You asked your friends; they were struggling to hide the smiles on their faces. The metal doors opened.
“Surprise!” The Avengers cheered, and confetti cannons went off and fell around you. The walls were draped in shimmering streamers of gold and silver, catching the light and casting a warm, celebratory glow. A large banner proclaiming “Happy Birthday Y/N!” in bold, cheerful letters hung proudly as the focal point. Balloons of various sizes and hues bobbed overhead, creating an ethereal ceiling of color.
The table was a symphony of presents, each carefully wrapped and topped with bows that sparkled in the light. The wrapping paper ranged from elegant patterns to vibrant designs.
“You little lairs,” you said, pushing the trio playfully. Your cheeks were beginning to hurt from the smile on your face. You never had a smile this big before.
“This was all them,” Kate pointed to the couple walking over to you. “We just played decoys.” You looked at the couple and ran over to them. Wanda and Natasha caught up in a hug.
“Is this okay?” The Black Widow asked. You saw the worried edge on her face.
“This is amazing,” you said. “You guys did all of this for me?” The couple smiled with a nod of their head. “Why?”
“Because you deserve a birthday party no matter how much you try to convince yourself you don’t need one.” Natasha tapped your nose, causing you to scrunch it.
“And look at this outfit,” Wanda grabbed your hand and spun around in a circle. The action caused you to dissolve into a fit of laughter. “You look so cute!”
“Thank you,” you smiled. “Yelena helped pick it out. She liked that it had pockets!”
“My sister does have excellent fashion sense,” Natasha mumbled. “Well, come on! You’re the star of the show, kid. You got some new people to meet!” There were so many people. Peter, MJ, and Ned hugged you and wished you a Happy Birthday. Kamala introduced you to Brunnhilde, but everyone called her Val, Carol’s girlfriend. You met Rocket and Nebula through Thor, and Shuri was excited for you to meet Riri. Meeting everyone new was fun, but you felt a sense of peace when you ran up to everyone you saw on a day-to-day basis. Sam picked you up in a hug and spun you around. Even Bucky hugged you, although he was a bit hesitant. Your heart was so whole that you couldn’t think it could improve until you saw two familiar figures from your family before the Avengers.
“Annie, Lucia,” Similarly to how you greeted Wanda and Natasha, you ran over to them, and thankfully, Paul was there to catch the two. “I can’t believe you came.”
“Easy there, sugar,” Annie said. “We aren’t as young as those two Avengers.” You giggled.
“Sorry, I got excited,” you looked at Paul. “Monsieur Breaux,” you said with a bad French accent and a slight bow. You saw the man roll his eyes, a smiling tugging at his usual stoic face.
“Cut it out, you whippersnapper,” he said, opening his arms for a hug. You gave him one. He smelt of cigar smoke and stale coffee. Similar to Annie, he was warm. “You’re looking good, kid.” He whispered and squeezed you tight.
“Feeling good, sir.” You smiled and felt an arm pulling you away from the man. It was Lucia who started dragging you towards the table of food.
“Mija,” she whispered, leaning close to you. “The Falcon. Is he single?” You stifled your laughter, which turned into a snort. Sam was leaning against the bar, waiting for his drink with Maria. You weren’t sure, but you noticed how he kept looking at the agent during movie nights or group dinners.
“I don’t know señora” you said. “Maybe you should shoot your shot as the kids say.” Lucia rolled her eyes.
“It’s nice to see you happy, mija. I’m very proud of you.” You grabbed a plate for her and looked around the common floor. Yeah, you were proud of yourself too.
*
“Hey, kid,” you looked at Tony. “Do you got a second?” You excused yourself from the group and followed Tony to a small table, a little off to the side of the party, where Pepper was sitting.
“Am I in trouble?” You questioned.
“Did you go something where you should be in trouble?” You shrugged at the CEO and sat in the empty chair. “We wanted to give you one of our presents before you opened the others.” You’ve been eyeing the table all night. You were very excited to open them. Tony set an envelope on the table, and you opened it carefully. It was a birth certificate with your legal name, and it was certified by the New York State Health Department, but there needed to be more information: your birth date and your parents’ names.
“I’m a little confused,” you admitted. Tony smiled.
“When Natasha first told us about you, I had FRIDAY do a search of who you are,” that made sense. Inviting a stranger into the Avengers Tower had a huge security risk. What was Natasha thinking? “We found no birth certificate.”
“Which means your biological parents never reported your birth to the health department,” you frowned. That was hurtful but not overall shocking. Pepper grabbed your hand. “We may never know your birthday, but we wanted to allow you to choose your new one.”
“It’s already signed and official, so the choice is yours.” Your choice. Your choice. You wondered if other kids would love to change their birthdays. Would they change it to summer instead of winter? Or away from a significant holiday. It was a lot of pressure, but you knew the day you wanted.
“The day Natasha found me. The day she saved my life,” Tony took the document and wrote the day, changing the year to match your age. “What about the parent’s spot?” You asked, taking the paper from him and putting it back into the envelope. “Who do I put there?” The billionaire rolled his eyes.
“Did you just ask that question?” He gestured with his drink behind you. Turning around, you saw who he was pointing to. Natasha and Wanda. They were playing darts against Yelena and Bucky. “They love you, kid,” Tony said, touching your shoulder. Loved you? Natasha and Wanda loved you? No one loved you even when you fought so hard for their affection. But they gave it to you without asking for anything in return. Natasha found your eyes immediately; she smiled and waved at you. You waved back.
“Sometimes that’s so hard to believe,” you said, turning back to look at Pepper and Tony.
“You are a wonderful person,” Pepper smiled. “Anybody would be lucky to have you as their daughter.”
*
Since it was your birthday celebration, finding a moment to talk to Natasha and Wanda was hard. Everyone wanted your attention. Thor wanted to discuss your ability and compare it to his. Shuri discussed your schooling, and Val wanted to know how your training was going and if you wanted her to take over. Kamala demanded you be her partner in the next ‘beer’ pong tournament. Even America, who you see every day, sought after your attention. You still needed to talk to her about what almost happened at Macey’s.
Once presents were opened, the cake was eaten, and a cringeworthily performance of Happy Birthday was sung, you finally had a free moment. Natasha pulled you over, the envelope that Tony and Pepper gave you still in your pocket. “Are you enjoying your birthday celebration?” Natasha asked as she sat down next to Wanda, and you sat in front of the couple. “I know Clint and Laura are upset they couldn’t make it. Lila had a school thing.” They gifted you a bow and arrow set that you were excited to test in training.
“Yeah,” you smiled. “Honestly, I am exhausted, but this has been the second-best day of my life.”
“Second?” Wanda questioned. “What is the first?”
“Is there something you wanted to talk about?” Natasha leaned on the table with her elbows on top and folded her hands.
“You’ve been a surprise addition to this tower,” she stated. “There is a light you radiate that draws all of us in.”
“Sometimes it’s dull, but other times that light is so bright and warm it’s beautiful to see,” Wanda added. You felt your throat burn as you tried to keep the tears that were forming in your eyes.
“We want to make sure that light never goes out, so,” Natasha smiled, glancing at her girlfriend. “We want to adopt you.” Still, you felt your stomach drop. They wanted to adopt you. You. You were constantly told no one would ever love you, that you were a burden to everyone. But they wanted you. Similar to how you choose your birthday, they choose you. “But we wanted to ask you before we moved along with the process.”
Instead of answering, you smiled and pulled the envelope out of your pocket. “I said today is the second best day because the day you found me was the best day of my life,” you gave them the paper. “So when Tony asked me for a birthday to use, I said that date,” Natasha held the paper in her hands. “You saved my life, Nat. I don’t know how I’ll be able to repay you.” The Black Widow let out a shaky breath and placed the paper down.
“It’s not complete,” she said, pointing to the spot where your parent’s names would be. “Who are you putting there?”
“You guys. I never got to experience life before you opened your family up to me. I know I’ve said it a million times and I'll probably say it a million more. Thank you for this incredible life I get to live.” With tears in her eyes, Wanda waved her hand, and a pen appeared. Without hesitation, you handed the pen to them. It was the best decision you’ve made.
*
“I think that’s everything,” Riri said, placing the leftover food on the counter. The party was dying down on the common floor, and you weren’t surprised when America came up to tell you the party would continue on Peter’s floor. “Your folks know how to throw a party.” You smiled. It was nice hearing everyone refer to Natasha and Wanda as your parents. It wasn’t weird or strange it felt right.
“Yeah,” you huffed a sigh as you placed a box of champagne bottles on the ground. “But the Avengers sure know how to party,” Peter asked the AI to play music to fill the quiet air. There was no need for that as everyone began to get more food and drinks that Yelena was making; you weren’t sure how smart that was.
A game of Would you rather broke out that had you wiping away tears from your laughter. You noticed Carol and Val joining, and no one seemed to bat an eye at the couple. You liked Val. You felt a tap on your shoulder and turned to see America. “Can I talk to you for a second?” Your stomach dropped at her question, but you managed to answer with a nod and followed her into the kitchen. “I wanted to give you your birthday present.”
“You didn’t have to get me anything,” you said, putting your drink on the counter. Your friend rolled her eyes.
“Of course I did. Now close your eyes,” you smiled and did as you were told. “Hands out in front of you.” When your hands were out, you felt a bag placed in them. “Okay, you can open them.” You put the bag next to your drink. “I still have the receipt if you hate it.” It was cute how worried she was. Inside the white gift box were two jewelry boxes. You opened one. Inside were two rubber rings; one had a lightning bolt, and the other had a star that matched the design of America’s powers.
“These are amazing! Thank you!”
We match,” she showed you her hand. Unlike your rings, hers were made of metal, but the design was the same. “Open the next one.” You put the rings on and opened the second box. This time, the jewelry was metal; a dog tag engraved on it was ‘Stay Gold’ from the Outsiders. “It’s made out of bismuth. It’s the least conductive metal and electricity.” You were a little lost for words.
“Can you put it on for me?” You whispered, handing her the necklace. She took it, placed it around your neck, and snapped it into place. You spun around to face her. It was a significant deja vu moment in the changing room. “Thank you, America. These are perfect.” She scratched the back of her head.
“It was nothing,” she said. “I’m glad I could make your birthday special,” once again, you saw her glance at your lips. Unlike at Macey’s, she stepped back and created distance between you and her. You frowned. “About what happened at the store, I’m sorry.”
“Sorry?” You questioned. “Why are you sorry?”
“Because I went about it the wrong way and should have asked before doing anything, so I’m sorry.” You smiled and held out your hand. Hesitantly, she took it.
“It’s okay. We’re okay,” you squeezed her hand. “We’ll figure it out, okay? Together.” America smiled.
“Yeah, together.”
*
You rubbed your eyes as you opened the door to your room. The presents you received were stacked on the wall to be dealt with another day. The only thing you grabbed from the pile was the blanket Wanda made you and threw it on the bed. You changed and got ready for bed. Before you lay down, you took the Polaroids with the camera Maria got you. It made you smile, capturing moments from your birthday celebration and the small party with the Young Avengers. You decided on two pictures to hang up on your wall: one with you, Wanda, and Natasha, and the other was a group photo with you and the Young Avengers. You hung up the two pictures following the newspaper clippings you had, your brother’s confirmation, and the fire that took your parents home. Well took Johnathan and Leah’s home. They were never your parents. They never deserved that title.
Climbing underneath the covers with Wanda’s blanket over you, you couldn’t help but smile. Your cheeks were still sore from the day. Reaching over to the newspaper clipping of the fire, you ribbed it off the wall. It was an article that you had memorized, and it was slightly tarring at the edges.
Tragedy Strikes as Beloved Pastor and Wife Perish in Devastating House Fire
In a heart-wrenching incident that has left a tight-knit community in mourning, a prominent local pastor and his wife lost their lives in a devastating house fire caused by an electrical issue. The fire engulfed the family home in the early hours, leaving behind a community in shock and sorrow.
Reverend Johnathan L/n, known for his inspiring sermons and tireless community service, and his wife, Leah L/n, a beloved figure in their congregation, could not escape the flames that consumed their residence. The couple had been married for over 20 years and were deeply involved in various charitable activities throughout the community.
The fire, which investigators believe originated from a faulty electrical connection, quickly spread throughout the home, making it difficult for emergency responders to contain the inferno.
Tragically, the couple’s only son, Caleb L/n, was away at school during the incident. He rushed home upon hearing the devastating news. Witnesses report that Caleb, in shock and desperation, was calling out for his sister, fearing that she might have been trapped inside. However, there was no evidence of a sibling at the scene, leaving many puzzled and concerned for Caleb’s well-being.
Friends and neighbors have rallied around Caleb, offering support and condolences as he copes with this unimaginable tragedy. The mystery surrounding the potential sibling has only added to the grief and confusion surrounding the devastating event.
The community has been deeply affected by the untimely loss of Pastor Johnathon and Leah L/n. Many gathered for a candlelight vigil outside the charred remains of their home to pay tribute to the influential couple. Tearful parishioners, friends, and neighbors shared memories of the couple’s kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to their faith and community.
Local authorities continue investigating the exact cause of the electrical malfunction that led to the fire. The tragedy serves as a sobering reminder for residents to prioritize regular home inspections and maintenance to prevent such devastating incidents.
Funeral arrangements for Pastor and his wife are currently being coordinated by the community, with details expected to be released in the coming days. As the grieving community comes together to support one another, the legacy of the beloved Pastor and his wife will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of those who knew them.
You fought back tears. Kindness, compassion, and dedication to their faith. If only they knew their beloved Pastor was a monster. You ripped up the article and shoved it in the drawer of your nightstand. You pushed the palms of your hands to your eyes. They were not going to ruin today. They’ve ruined so much of your life today, and it was not one of them. You took another photo out of the pile. It was of you, America, Yelena, and Kate. The tears went away, and a smile was once again on your face. America wrapped her arms around your neck while Yelena and Kate stood on either side. Your friends were everything to you. Friends. You had friends who cared about you, parents who loved you, and a family who would never lay a hand on you. You would have never thought this would be your life with the cards you were dealt. Closing your eyes, no nightmares dared invade your mind when surrounded by warmth, love, and happiness.

Good morning sleepyhead
Tumblr media
Pairing: Defender!Stephen Strange x Fem!Reader
Wong & Fem!Reader
Summary: Stephen chuckled, selecting a dark-blue shirt from the closet and some black jeans. "I'll keep that in mind for next time.”
Tumblr media
Y/N shifted in the plush bed, feeling the warmth of the morning sun filtering through the Sanctum Sanctorum's windows. As the soft sounds of the New York City outside reached her ears, she realized she was alone in bed. The memory of her first night with Stephen Strange made her smile, but the soreness in her muscles kept her from getting up just yet.
The rhythmic sound of running water signaled that Stephen was in the shower. Y/N relished the quiet moment, taking in the magical atmosphere of the ancient place. The room was adorned with mystical artifacts, and the air carried a hint of enchantment.
She considered joining Stephen in the shower, but the allure of the comfortable bed held her back. Instead, she closed her eyes, savoring the memories of the night before – the shared laughter, whispered secrets, and the tender moments that unfolded in the dimly lit room.
Lost in thought, Y/N heard the shower turn off. A few moments later, Stephen emerged, a towel wrapped around his waist. He caught sight of Y/N, a fond smile playing on his lips.
"Good morning, sleepyhead" he greeted, his voice a soothing melody.
Y/N couldn't help but smile “Morning” she replied, her voice still husky with sleep.
Stephen deftly gathered his long strands of hair, a casual focus in his eyes as he fashioned a loose man bun. Y/N observed the graceful motions, enjoying the intimate simplicity of the moment. "Are your muscles still sore?" he inquired, his gaze shifting to the closet where he contemplated his wardrobe choices.
Y/N nodded, wincing slightly as she attempted to stretch. "Unfortunately yes. Though your attempt at a lavender bath did work wonders."
Stephen chuckled, selecting a dark-blue shirt from the closet and some black jeans. "I'll keep that in mind for next time.”
"Next time?" Y/N queried, a playful glint in her eyes as she watched Stephen shrug nonchalantly. He began to dress himself, the play of muscles beneath his skin catching her attention. “You’re stuck with me, wether you like it or not now.” he replied, a mischievous smile playing on his lips.
As Y/N gingerly got up from the bed, she winced slightly, prompting a concerned look from Stephen. "You sure you're okay?"
"Just a bit stiff," she reassured him, grabbing his white T-shirt from the bed. Y/N clad in Stephen's oversized T-shirt, tiptoed to him and wrapped her arms around him from behind. As he met her eyes in the mirror, a warm smile spread across his face.
"You're wearing my T-shirt," he remarked, a hint of amusement in his tone.
She grinned, resting her head against his back. "Sorry for borrowing your clothes. They’re just too cozy to resist, and it smells like you. I might keep it." Stephen turned to face her, his hands finding hers. "Consider it a permanent loan then.”
“I might.” The air between them crackled with a shared warmth, and without a word, Stephen leaned in, pressing a soft, lingering kiss on Y/N's lips. It was a gentle exchange, a testament to the unspoken connection that had grown between them.
As they pulled away, Y/N met Stephen's gaze, her eyes reflecting the quiet intensity of their bond. The doctor looked at her with a soft gaze, his eyes reflecting a depth of affection. Sensing the intensity of his stare, Y/N playfully tried to slip away, but his arms gently pulled her back into an embrace. “I like seeing you in my shirts. It's a good look."
"You're a sap," Y/N teased, looking up at Stephen with affection dancing in her eyes.
He leaned down, planting a soft kiss on her forehead. "I just said what I thought."
Y/N playfully kissed his chin. "You know what I'm thinking?"Stephen hummed, a knowing glint in his eyes.
"Breakfast at that new local," she suggested, a grin spreading across her face.
Stephen nodded in agreement to breakfast, but their plans were interrupted as Wong made a sudden entrance through a portal.
"Stephen—Oh. I'm sorry, I didn't—. Y/N, it's good to see you!" Wong greeted, a hint of surprise in his eyes.
Stephen swiftly moved to cover Y/N, who was caught in a moment of indecency with his borrowed T-shirt. Y/N, blushing furiously, managed a greeting, "Hi, Wong. Nice to see you too."
"Wong, a bit of privacy, please?" Stephen asked a bit irritated. But Wong just chuckled, averting his gaze. "My apologies. I'll give you two a moment to finish getting ready. But Stephen, we have some matters to discuss in the library.”
As the portal closed behind Wong, Y/N let out a nervous laugh. "Well, that was unexpected." But Stephen sighed at the mention of matters to attend to, his fingers absentmindedly playing with a strand of Y/N's hair. Sensing his reluctance, Y/N offered a reassuring smile.
"It's okay, I don't mind," she said, understanding the responsibilities that came with his role as the Sorcerer Supreme. "We can have lunch later. Duty calls, right?"
He nodded, grateful for her understanding. "Thank you. I'll make it up to you, I promise."

Was this a date? Or did she mean it as just friends? Friends go to the movies all the time with one another. But what if America meant it as something more? What if she didn't?
A million thoughts raced through your head as you placed the length of your room. You anxiously bit at your nails, your brows furrowed. Sighing to yourself you paused in your step.
Even if this wasn't a date you wanted to look good. Glancing at your night stand you caught the sight of your clock reading '5:21.' The movie started at 7:00 and America would be here at 6:30. Around an hour to get ready, you could deal with it.
And deal with it you did. You smiled at your reflections. Taking in your attire and your other features. You had to admit. You looked damn good. Picking up your bag you exited the bedroom. As well as opening the front door and stepping outside. Placing yourself on the steps you took a seat, waiting for your future lover to arrive…
Well you hoped so anyways.
America texted you that she'd be there in five. The both of you would be walking to the theater. You scrolled through your phone to pass the time. However your attention was brought elsewhere at the sound of footsteps across the concrete sidewalk.
You looked up and stood from the sight of America waving towards you at the end of your driveway. Hurriedly you shuffled towards her.
Her eyes scanned over your body with a light smile. You chuckled at her speechless behavior.
"I'm so hot," you joked. America giggling her cheeks blooming in a slight blush.
"Loving the confidence."
"Shut up," you snorted, shoving her arm softly. She laughed along, linking her arm with yours. "What movie is it again?"
"I'm gonna be honest, I don't really know. I just know that Sandra Block is in it," she shrugged. You hummed in response. The sounds of birds chirping and cars passing by field the new found silence. However the more the quiet atmosphere made you more anxious as time went on. "The movie theater is just over the hill," America informed. When you didn't respond she looked over at you. Taking in your stressed expression. She squeezed your arm. "You alright?" You snapped you eyes in her direction. Nodding your head you cleared your throat.
"Y-yeah, I was just thinking," you mumbled.
"About what?" You bit your lip pondering. America nudged your hip with hers. "Come on, you can tell me," she assured.
"I was wondering what exactly what we're doing." America furrowed her brows.
"Going to the movies?"
"No no, but what are we going there as?" You held your breath as the question slipped from your lips. America froze in her step, turning to face you.
“About that. Hey, uhm, there’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you…” she started.
"Oh, no, don’t tell me you’re gonna go all sappy and confess your love and everything to me now, are you? I'm not prepared for that," you rambled.
“Well now I’m certainly not gonna to do it!" She exclaimed, laughter falling for her lips.
“ You flat out just admitted you have feelings for me. You know that right?" America rolled her eyes.
"Well, duh. I was going to do it properly but then you cut me off."
"I'm sorry. I panicked. I was overthinking this whole thing all afternoon and I wasn't expecting to get the response I was looking for," you explained.
"So you're saying you like me, right? ," America chuckled nervously. You nodded you head giggling.
"Yes, I like you back."
"Good. Cause this would have been so awkward if you didn't." She grabbed your hand gently. Linking her fingers with yours, pulling you along the sidewalk.

America Chavez x Reader: Laying in a Park
Description: Reader and America laying in a park.
Gender: neutral! No pronouns used!
WARNINGS: anxiety, depression, numbness, stress all mentioned but not directly shown (this is just comfort)
Tumblr media
*not my gif*
You close your eyes, feeling the wind brush across your face and the warmth radiating from your girlfriend.
America is next to you, her arm around your shoulders as you cuddle into her. She smells like cherry chapstick and cinnamon and vanilla. Her hair is soft, it tickles the side of your neck just enough to send slight shivers down your back.
You don't need to move. You are perfectly comfortable. Perfectly at rest.
You don't need to know how to feel emotion. You just need to be in this moment with America, laying in a park in the dark on top of a soft blanket.
You brush your fingers along the blanket, drawing a heart. You turn your head so it settles in America's neck. You wiggle just slightly to get comfortable.
The warmth from her skin is like resting your head on a cat. Her hand is running gently up and down your arm.
You feels so in the moment. You feel so relaxed. You feel so present in a way your anxiety usually doesn't allow.
You'd been feeling numb for awhile, stuck in a pattern of endless work and responsibilities without a break. You didn't realize how much you needed to take a break.
America's other arm moves to fully wrap you in a hug.
You feel totally safe and secure. Like nothing could hurt you. You move your leg on top of her's, slightly tangling them together. You turn fully onto your side so you can smell nothing but America.
You move your arm up and drape it across her stomach, holding on tightly.
In this moment, nothing can go wrong. In this moment, you are at peace.
You slowly drift off to sleep.
I wrote this with my eyes closed. Idk if it makes any sense, but it was just what I was feeling right now.
Let me know if you guys like this or not. Might start voicing my fics and posting them on YouTube so stuff like this can be more immersive.
Thx for reading, don't steal!
Buy me a coffee?
