Saw posts and and tweets about how junho getting upset and complaining how the dates that youngwoo planned was so out of character for him. Now while I respect everyone's reaction and opinion,I beg to differ. To me, it was totally in character. Also, i was real glad that he was showing frustration and being a sulky boyfwend (that cutie patootie)

I think he would've eventually talked about it/brought it up. Him not talking about it doesn't mean he wasn't being true or ooc. Man is whipped. He was excited to be out on a date with his girl and my girl showed up with a huge ass trash basket asfghjkl (Did I mention how much I love her). Anyways, our girl caught him unawares with her "my dad caught us sucking face and wanted to meet you but I was like nah, we're not a thing yet. (I love her) . SoJunho, understandably thinking after all the spit exchanging and more importantly the "loving me is hard,but are you still going to. Yes." and "I'll be your personal hug chair. SMOOCH and going on dates he didn't particularly enjoy because he is just so in love,it makes him sick, the guy naturally assumed they are a thing and so when his girlfriend (assumed) said that ,boy was all wut you mean you not my boo?

Yes. He should have been clear because as we understand from young woo's side. They were going to go on dates to get to know each other before officially becoming a couple. To be fair to young woo,I don't think this would be something only an autistic person like young woo would get confused by, heck so would I.

Anyways that scene was cut. Pretty sure they became boyfriend girlfriend after and they kissed again.

Here is another thing about junho. This isn't some indepth character analysis and this is stupid because I bet it's something everyone knows but it's still something I see some people bring up or rather complain about

Junho has a short temper. He is quick to get defensive. He isn't one to shy away from showing how he feels (which is one of the reasons he is perfect for young woo). He isn't hot tempered in a toxic way if that makes sense.

For example. That time atty Kwon (fuck you) and atty Jung (loml) and that client didn't include youngwoo in their whatever drink cheers. Junho was commiting murder with his eyes.

Or that time he roughed up minwoo during the basketball match (I want him to do it again ,this time of throw the ball in his face too)

His two conversation with minwoo at home where's he got loud and upset and mad when first that ableist shit was like the girl you like can't be young woo and the other when he said that junho wasn't sure about things working out between him and the girl he likes.

Even when suyeon confronted him about his feelings for young woo abd if they were just temporary. Man got so offended and he wasn't subtle about it

And of course,the angry (HOT) at the bar body slamming an asshole to the ground and ready to pummel his face for talking shit about his girl and assuming he is dating her out of sympathy.

So you see,my man isn't as docile and sweet as you think. I don't get where the he is such a 2d character comes from? You complain about him being this boring goody two shoes and when he shows some "negative" traits then it's oh it's so disappointing he is acting this way? Doesn't make sense to me.

Lee Junho is a neon green flag with all his faults.

I'mma be real. To me as an artist, the official game cover of SPR is a bit misleading and confusing.

Because out of all the characters in the cover only 2 of them shown aren't good guys, but when people who are just getting into playing the game don't really know that. You don't even get the basic understanding of what the game is about, from the cover art. Which btw is the main purpose of game cover art.

It feels wrong to use this franchise, since it uses characters and a universe foundation that are already established via other games and also it's made by an actual company and not a group of people and a creator we don't talk about for obvious reasons, but. The inspiration series, Paper Mario does this damn near perfectly and still sticks to the aesthetics of the game. (Note: I haven't played the franchise nor watched others play it, so hopefully this doesn't come off as bias)

Like in Super Paper Mario:

You can easily tell who's the good guys and who's the bad guys, along with getting told one of the main features in the game. Which is the 2D to 3D power. You know the basics of what you're giving into.

A more older example would be Paper Mario 2/Thousand year door:

Sure it doesn't tell more about the story than Mario is looking for something, but I never said the basic understanding of the story has to be that deep. But that's not the only thing, you can immediately tell the characters' business by just looking at the cover(outside of Mario and Peach)

Young kid who's gonna be one of Mario's helpers

Dragon that's staring at koopa in an obvious way to show that they will be trying to do something bad to the kooba, thus being a bad guy

Adventure ready and obviously gonna be the party member who identifies people.

Evil skeleton dude. especially considering he's 3d, 2 out of 3 3d characters are evil in this universe.

Little gremlin, but obviously too small and weak to be a bad guy

Looks too detailed to not be an important character, and considering they are in front of peach (and if you know a bit of this game, you know that peach gets kidnapped in this game), holding their staff menacingly, it's obvious that they are at least either a higher minion or the one of the main bad guys.

Heck even Bug Fables, an indie game that's an homage to the Paper Mario series, was able to have cover art that tells a bit of the basic story of the game. Two of them too.

Sure this game came out way after PR/SPR, but still.

A/N: This is a crack/trash fic. Like seriously, this is absolute garbage written poorly on purpose. I was inspired by this tiktok of Midoriya Izuku from My hero Academia. One about him being a savage and insulting everyone around him,so I decided to do one for Yuji. It was a cool afternoon in Jujutsu high, Tokyo campus. There weren't any curses that needed to be taken care of at the moment, so the students weren't up to much and honestly none of us are even sure these people do normal high subjects either(if I'm wrong don't hesitate to inform me in the comments). Megumi was leaning his back on a wall, Nobara was staring at Yuji sitting all dejectedly in a nearby corner and the second years were no where to be found.

"I wonder what's up with him" she said more to herself than to anyone in a particular

''He seems upset about something,best to just leave him alone" Megumi huffed

"Hmm" Nobara hummed but proceeded to walk up to him anyways for reasons unknown to me

"Oi idiot,what's got you so down" Despite the insult that was used,she did seem a bit concered.

The salmon haired vessel of Sukuna spun his head around 180 degrees(😳) and looked at the female sorcerer with menacing blood shot eyes. If looks could kill,Nobara would have been seven feet underground by now.

"Idiot? so says the bitch who's wasting her time speaking to said idiot"

Nobara was shoketh;she stared dumbfoundedly at the boy in front of her.she definentely wasn't expectng that. Determined to keep her pride,she decided to retaliate.

"Who do you think you're talking to, asshole?"she clicked her tongue and put on her most threatening look.

" Clearly there's no other bitch here beside you ,so go figure"

Her viscous countenance was immediately dismantled and she had nothing left to say. Megumi who overheard everything decided to step in.

"What has gotten into you?It doesn't matter if you're upset, you can't speak to people like that"

"So says the edgy guy who always acts like he's got a stick up his ass" Yuji scoffed

Megumi was equally as dumbfounded as Nobara was a few minutes ago. He couldn't believe Yuji would ever act in such manner. He bet that Sukuna had something to do with this sudden change in behavior. The aforementioned king of curses was busy snickering at the spectacle from inside Yuji's body. Maniacal laughter poured from the mouth at the side of the young sorcerer's face.

"How pitiful" Sukuna chuckled

Yuji glared at the opening at the side of his face.

" The only thing that's pitiful around here is a 1000+ year old cursed spirit sitting around idly in a 15 year old's body"

He didn't think he'd have the audacity to speak back to him,that's why he was left speechless (also cause he hit close to home)

You(yes you,dear reader) oveheard everything that was going on and decided to interfere.

" Yuji what's your deal,like seriously?"

" No,what's your deal? Why do you feel the need to insert yourself into fictional universes and ship yourself with 2d characters instead of real people"

" you didn't have to be so blunt" you ran away in tears

The second years were back from whatever it is they were doing and saw the whole hullabaloo from the bushes.

" OK Itadori,you need to stop,this isn't funny"

" Of course,it's not nearly as funny as how you're in a fucking curse school with no curse abilities"

"Oi" Maki's rational demeanor was disrupted and her face contoured to one of displeasure.

" Okaka!" Inumaki spoke strongly

" Use your words senpai,oh that's right, you can't"

" Hey stop now Yuji-kun" Panda tried to diffuse this ruckus

" Stay out of this panda,or should we even be calling you that"

Having enough of this ,Gojou hopped out of the bushes (jeez ,why's everyone hiding in the bushes today?) and decided to put a stop to this madness,surely he had to listen to his sensei.

" Oi Yuji-kun,You shouldn't speak to people like this, this isn't very responsible of you"

" Not the literal man child trying to talk to me about responsibility. You of all people should not be speaking to me about that!"

"Hey,that's not very nice" Gojou ran away in tears

The news about savage yuji reached the ears of the Kyoto students who were on the Tokyo campus for stupid reasons I'm too tired to explain.

"If it isn't Sukuna's vessel causing havoc as usual " Mei sneered

"If isn't Maki's less than competent sister.Get lost .nobody gives a fuck about you"

"Wha- I" the 2nd year was definitely at a loss for words

" I can't believe my besto friendo is acting like this"

"Best frien-bitch we barely even know each other"

One could tell Todo's feelings were hurt.

"Pssh,I'm not surprised they let their students act like that" Nishimiya huffed

" Can someone please take this toddler back to the daycare center cause she's obviously lost"

The blonde girl had wanted to protest but she couldn't form the words as it had cut her off guard.

"Despicable" Mechamaru tsked

"OK Walmart dollar store Alexa" Yuji rolled his eyes

"Yuji-kun,you shouldn't say these things"

Miwa who was normally shy and lacked proper self-confidence had to intervene.she didn't think she could do much but she wasn't about to let Yuji speak to her mates and upperclassmen like that. It was unforgivable

"Aww look ,Gojo's fan girl found her voice,ain't that cute"

Everyone's eyes were now on the blunette,even Gojo and you who had been crying together in the corner.

"I-wuh-f- wahhhhh" she ran away abruptely having nothing to counteract the salmon haired boy's comment. Everyone just stood there with a sweat drop on their foreheads.

"Tch,this is unbelievable" Kamo shook his head in pure disappointment and muttered to himself but Yuji had caught wind of his statement

" Why don't you look me in the eyes and tell me that?"

" I will not entertain this any further" The third year turned his heels and walked away. In lay man terms,"Dude wasn't about to deal with this shit"

" yeah that's right get your pale looking Robin hood ass out of here"

The ravenette kept on walking, paying absolutely no mind to the first year's comment. No matter how much it stung, he still wasn't getting involved in anything.

The sun had almost set and alas,it was evident that no man,woman or non-conforming individual could put a stop to savage Yuji's reign of terror.

But look!who was that figure that came out of the bushes (I'm done at this point🤦‍♀️)?. was it an ostrich? Nick Jonas? Ah yes! You guessed right! It was our beloved Nanami-san.

"Is this what you were looking for Itadori-kun?" He came up to the scene,flashing a silver movie ticket in his right hand.

"Been looking everywhere for this,where did you find it?. Oh thank you so much Nanami-san,you're an angel?" Yuji pranced all around in pure excitement.

"I found it near the gates and I had remembered you were looking for it"

"Oh,thanks a lot,you don't know how much this means to me"

"It's alright,just be careful next time"

Nanami then turned on his heels and proceeded to take his leave,away from the befuddled sorcerers who had witnessed the spectacle. He paid no one a single glance and left to where he had come from.

"All this just because of a damned ticket?" Everyone echoed in unison( a faint "mentaiko" could be heard in the background)before fainting "anime style".

" Itadori,in my office now!" The young boy whipped his head around to see a rather livid Principal Yaga standing beside principal Gakuganji who was as contemptuous as always.

"Aw,shit!"

Ideas for Kingdom Hearts x Disney Chills stories

(warning: very BEEG and tall wall of text and spoilers)

... I kinda once got some weird ideas about some stories of the Disney Chills storybooks with something that could be considered as well strange too, and that is: Kingdom Hearts. 

Now, you may be wondering: What’s sort of thingus have you drank to think of a weird idea like that?! or, what the heck is Disney Chills or Kingdom Hearts?!

And to that i tell you: i did not drank anything except water and milk, and cola... and orange juice, i just thought of the idea because it’s cool and i kinda wanna see it, but before speaking of how, i will tell what exactly both series are about:

Disney Chills is a series of 6 books (7 in the making) made by Vera Strange that mixes the scary spooky storytelling from the Goosebumps series and the classic villainy of Disney’s Animated Villains. The stories are about a random kid (often a middle schooler) being down in the dumps for something that they lack or because they’re ostracized due to having any quirk. Then comes the Disney Villains to help them at the expense of turning their lifes for the worse in the long run, and then the villains wins at the end while the kiddos suffer the consequences for what they did, too bad~!

Kingdom Hearts is a series of videogames made by Tetsuja Nomura, who at first just started as one boy named Sora and his friends Riku and Kairi getting separated from their homeworld Destiny Islands and then Sora masters the keyblade to seek and find his friends from the claws of the Heartless and the Disney Villains who controls them (but there’s a bigger evil than they don’t know about) then became more confusing adding Nobodies, Time Travel, Replicas, and even bigger bad, a keyblade wars and various VARIOUS games that made from going from game 1-2-3 to UX-ML-DR-BBS-0.2-1-CoM-358/2D-2-RC-DDD-3-4. Aka there’s a lot of story spread over multiple games.

Soo, now that you (kinda?) know what those series are about what sort of weird ideas i kinda got into making, since these are too big (even for me) but still, i’m just gonna say what sort of ideas i thought and what sort of villains from the series would fit the best for them, and soo... Let’s dive into the Darkness.

Ansem, Seeker of Darkness:

The very first antagonist from the Kingdom Hearts series. Ansem was created after getting Terra-Xehanort’s heart out when he unlocked it with his keyblade, he then went to the past to help Young Xehanort to go towards his dark road and stayed in there, eventually manipulating Riku into joining the darkness and then eventually taking over his body to become “whole”. He also has a heartless bodyguard that is actually Terra’s Heart. He was eventually defeated by Sora, but still manage to return thanks to Riku’s darkness and eventually Xehanort’s Time Traveling shenanigans.

In a way, a story featuring Ansem would be kinda interesting persay; since the ideas about these sort of stories are about choices or wanting to get something "physical", i imagine that the kingdom hearts-related stories would be more about ourselves as people and how we threat each's others, as well understanding our emotions too. Ansem's Story would be about the Darkness in our hearts due to our own physical and emotional struggles, as well on how we affects others without not noticing at all. 

In this story, we would get a protagonist that feels preety weak and sad because of how much he gets bullied, so one night, he find at some place, he finds Ansem and then he helps him to get strong, by calling to the darkness inside it’s heart and then our protagonist gets courage to be strong, so next mornign, he puts a bully on it’s place, and everything goes, but also, he felt something, like he somehow felt that there were less and less people around the school, and that there were reports of some “shadowy” beings roaming around the streets (these being being pureblood heartless like shadows, neoshadows, possesors, dark balls and dark servants), and then, he finds out that the more he looks at his reflection, he sees himself less and less of a human, and more like a dark silhoutte of what he is. (based on Antisora). So, he decides confront Ansem before things spiral out of control (but sadly, thing spiralled out of control, so now he has to run through a darkness-ized city full of heartless to follow and stop Ansem once and for all.

(bonus points if the protagonist in a way is like Riku but different, and that a sora and kairi-look a likes would be important for the story too.)

(Alternatively, Ansem’s story could also be about Dabbling in the dark arts, like how Dr. Facilier did, albeit, with a few differences since Facilier's Story was about being at the shadow of someone else though. in this idea, it would be that an occultist based character got the help of a “Master of Darkness” that managed to summon the heartless (just some shadows) to prove that the occult itself is real and then get more members for it’s club or what not, only to realise that it might had condeem the entire city to the darkness....)

I kinda thought that the final battle would be on a toy shop, and that the heartless would ended up posessing some toys that would be weirdly-reminesent from the emblem heartless from the game (mostly first and second and maybe third game too) and the near-final obstacle would be Ansem summoning a version of the Phantom Heartless as a “puppet” before being faced at the rooftops. in the end, Ansem would tell that he still has potential in his heart for a greatness and stuff, our protagonist doesn’t believe it but then, a heartless attack one (or two) of his friends, he then succumbs to the darkness and ask Ansem to help them, and Ansem replies, by “returning” our protagonist’s friends’ hearts back, but taking his own.

The idea i thought that at the end (of theses two ideas), our protagonist would then be turned into the Dark Guardian by Ansem (using it’s heartless magic), thanks to the inmerse hatred and darkness it had during the story condeming it to be Ansem’s personal servant and fighter, collecting more darkness for his master to use.

Xemnas

Xemnas is the main antagonist of Kingdom Hearts II, being the leader of organization XIII and the leader of the nobodies, he was born after terra-xehanort unlocked his heart, leaving him to be his nobody. He then created the organization for his nefarious needs.

Xemnas's Story would be more about the opposite of what most of the stories you made are: Popularity, while in most of the disney chills stories are about any characters trying to be popular and outshine anyone else (Part of your Nightmare and Fiends on the Other Side comes to mind), in this story the protagonist would already start as a popular person, but it would get tired of it and wanted to live a simple life (probably thanks to peer preasure and other stuff like toxic fanbases and stuff too, in a way, it would be like a “kid-friendly” version of Oshi no Ko, and how popularity (As well the internet) can be like a double-edge sword., that's went it's meets Xemnas, and stuff goes on. 

I’m not sure exactly how the plot afterwards would it be but i imagine it having to be similar to Fiends on the Other Side and our protagonist at first embraces the fact he’s no longer picked up but then more and more people start to forget him and he doesn’t know what to do. I also thought of an idea that it would get a bittersweet ending that after the protagonist get’s forgotten by almost everyone, Xemnas comes and then gives him a “second” life with him, afterall, he also found other kids that were forgotten too so he brought then to be part of a “family” (in a way, it would be related to Organization XIII) and that our protagonist was number xii.

Master Xehanort

Master Xehanort is the antagonist of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, 3 and Dream Drop Distance, as well the overarching antagonist of the series as a whole. he wants to redo the keyblade war to get the X-Blade and unlock Kingdom Hearts, he summoned Vanitas as a copy of Ventus, he manipulated Terra to give into the darkness and took over his body turning it into Terra-Xehanort, and he sent Aqua to the realm of darkness as terra-nort. He also sent himself from the past to get to follow it’s dark road and help his future self to gather the new 13 darknesses to fight agaisnt the guardians of light.

Master Xehanort's Story would be a bit more... "tricky" (since he’s a chessmaster sort of villain sitting in the shadows while everyone else is doing their thing and help him without knowing about it), but since his motives rely on more manipulation from the shadows, he would kinda use the protagonist to help it be the best, only to end up as "the best" as Xehanort himself (Kinda mirroring what happened to Terra in BBS.) yeah, i know it’s simple but it’s kinda what i got.

(in a way, i thought that by the end of... whatver happened, Xehanort would do the same thing that Ansem did a few characters above, but instead of using it as a heartless, he would use it as a way to get a physical body since he’s technically not a live/he’s a “ghost” of somekind, and after getting to posses it, we get a time skip of Xehanort now using the protagonist’s body as it’s own, ready to relieve a second life to path it’s path to sucess and darkness.)

(in a way, when our protagonist meets Xehanort, he would see it as a cloaked figure that needed help and then, after telling about what happened, he helps the protagonist to become better at the expense of being a pawn for something the protagonist doesn’t know about until the end. his cloaked appearance would look like Ansem’s Cloaked form when he met riku and sora on destiny island, while his possesion of the portagonist at the end would make him look like the protagonst but with white hair and yellow eyes, barley looking like Young Xehanort.)

(I have a feeling that the cloaked figure would fit better with ansem on the occult-based story but changes can happen down the line, i think?)

The Heartless/Anti Black Coat/Dopperganger.

... Basically, an original idea, now you may be wondering: but why? well... why not? Plus, the Heartless as a whole could be an intereting as they being born from the darkness inside of out heart. In a way, what’s interesting is that they could also be the first villain our protagonist doesn’t know about, but everyone else kinda manages to see it as it’s follow the protagonist’s shadow whetver it’s goes, and then use their inscurities to power themselves more and more to become like the protagonist.

In a way it would first start out as a normal shadow at the ground (both psylosofically and literally, like the kh enemy), then it would evolve into the Neoshadow, and Finally it's become like afusion of the Anti-Black Coat and Shadow Roxas, who, went reveal it's hood out, it's turn like the dark version of our main protagonist, but all black, and after the protagonist falls to his darkness, it’s posses the protagonist to become 1, as well the main personality, erasing the original’s as a whole as he slips into the darkness, to no longer cause any problems at all...

(in a way, if there’s a final battle, i imagine the Shadow Dopperganger cummonig some sort of silhoutte barely reminesnce of the Darkside, or getting it’s hair spiked up and wavy like the darkside too.)

Ho boy, this ended up being far more longer than i anticipated, but yeah, what do you think of my ideas? are they good or way to far out to be considered anything at all? i may post another idea soon-ish though, but still, i have a feeling i wouldn’t work to deep since i have other projects doing on my own, but i would like to see your own ideas on these ideas i had and see what you can do about them, even if it is the covers for books or which sort of protagonsit deisgn, age, gender and maybe even nacionality could be good too, until then, if you have read up to this end, i’m happy you got time to listen to me. it’s makes me happy.

I know it sounds mean, but if you think about attacking someone over fictional stuff that isn’t hurting anyone and you can easily avoid, there is not a single mature bone in your body whatsoever, and not a single ereri creator wants you near them. Heck, any ship-content creator to be honest.

Steven Universe

Set millennia after a kinda-failed alien invasion, this is a story of a half-human protagonist with a big heart who has to deal with the consequences of this long-ago war and learn what it means to be human.

The trope of a peacekeeper hero, excellently executed. Goes from cute to cute and rather dark, but still hopeful. Nice songs, lovely animation, interesting characters; you can tell that the storytelling goes from the hearts of the people who made this. This is a generally uplifting story; however it does have some discussion of war, mental illness and parental death, so tw for that. Also depending on where you live, this may be a bit difficult to track down across the streaming services... That said, this is undoubtedly one of the best shows I have ever watched.

Hollow Knight

You are a tiny badass with a sword and a mysterious past, travelling across a derelict kingdom and trying to make sense of what happened to it. And the more you learn, the more you suspect that you are here for a reason...

A 2D platformer game, doesn't require anything fancy from your laptop - not even a mouse. Previous gaming experience not necessary either. Beautiful visuals (I mean it!), a huge world to explore; exasperatingly difficult, which makes for a great distraction. I do have to warn that the plot of this game revolves around an infection, although it's not very reminiscent of Covid. As a plus, you get to kick its ass in the end!

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Four great nations are at war - have been for some time, actually, and things aren't looking great. The discovery of the Avatar - the peacekeeper with abilities from all the nations - offers a glimmer of hope; however it doesn't help that the Avatar is eleven years old and has spent the last century frozen in an iceberg.

Truly, a classic. I love the trope of the peacekeeper hero - both Avatar and Steven Universe explore it beautifully. Just like with Steven, I have to mention a tw for war, but this being a cartoon it's not explicitly traumatic. A great place to start if you're not into cartoons yet.

The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells

Murderbot is a half-organic, half-robotic being, serving as a security unit on interplanetary missions. It's much more sentient and independent than its company believes - but all it wants is for the annoying humans to leave it in peace long enough to watch one more episode of its current show. However when things go south on a mission, Murderbot has to deal with much more reality - and human interaction - than it would like.

Very fun and quick read; the narrator's voice is just excellent. Much less bloodthirsty than the title suggests, but still a tw for injury and death. (Not too much though - I hate gore and I was perfectly fine reading this.)

Folk of the Air by Holly Black

Elfhame is no place for humans - well, normal humans, anyway. Jude Duarte was brought up here with her sisters, and she is hell-bent on proving her worth in the fairy court she has come to call home. Few are happy with that, or believe that she can make it - but even Jude herself wouldn't have guessed where the political turbulence would get her.

Very well-written; politics of the fairy court stand to logic and offer plenty of exciting plot twists. True to the title, some characters can be rather cruel, so tw for violence and parental death; however most of the plot revolves around politics and not explicit physical trauma.

Cartoon Saloon films: Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea, WolfWalkers

Some of the best modern animation plus Irish mythology. Each of these films explores a different myth/historical period, but they are similar in the magical atmosphere; I recommend each and every one of them. The plots being different, I won't list all the tw's here; there's nothing particularly gruesome going on, so just have a look at the plot description before watching to check for sensitive topics.

Gravity Falls

Dipper and Mabel are sent to a cabin deep in Oregon forest to spend the summer with their great-uncle. Sounds like a boring holiday - however it turns out that the town has more weird secrets than residents, and even their great-uncle seems to be hiding something...

Very cartooney, so the style might be a little off-putting at first - however I loved the plot, especially when the overstory started to pick up. This is a great exploration of family and what summer should feel like when you're an adventurous kid. Will probably get you into cryptography.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power

Adora grew up with the bad guys. That is, of course, she thinks they are the good ones - until one day she escapes from the camp and sees much more than she bargained for. Oh yes, and apparently some magical sword wants her to be a hero. Now on the side of the rebellion, she has to protect her new friends, deal with the old ones, and try to figure out what the heck is going on.

This show is fun, very diverse and full of positivity without trying too hard. For me it was a joy to watch something with a lot of strong female characters without having the dark gender issues discussed, not even once. (I mean, it's still important to have shows that explicitly discuss this - but a show where characters are just happy in their identities, no questions asked, is something I didn't know I needed.)

Carmen Sandiego

The young woman who calls herself Carmen Sandiego has a rather unconventional occupation. She was brought up in a school for thieves - but when she glimpsed the outside world, she realised that things weren't as simple as her teachers said. Now she uses her expertise to track her former schoolmates - and steal back their loot.

This is probably the most young-age-oriented item on my list, so there's not a lot of drama going on, and some plotlines are rather simple. That said, this series is good fun, I still found the story and the characters compelling, and the animation was really good as well. Honestly, seeing what modern 2D animation can do is a treat.

These things - and many other - helped me stay sane during this year; I found out that stories can be fun shameless escapism and really deep and satisfying at the same time. Feel free to add to this list - and I will keep it updated as well when more good stuff comes my way.

Andy on Asian Animation or SYAC: The Master Review 2

Let’s talk a bit about anime and Dobson’s work relation with it.

I think we can all agree, that starting from the late 90s and early 2000s on, anime and manga became extremely popular in the western world. Sure, Japanese animation was nothing completely new to us (Speed Racer, Nadia-Secret of Blue Water, Samurai Pizza Cats, Sailor Moon, Kimba and Akira e.g. come to my mind as properties already known in the west before 1995) but it really was around this time that thanks to “mainstream” stuff like Dragon Ball and Pokemon people became aware of how different Japanese animation was from western. Eventually resulting in the really good shit (like Cowboy Bebop, Black Lagoon, Kenshin and Heat Guy J) coming over and enriching nerd culture for more than just a few people who knew of it as an obscurity at that point. Now, if you know anything about Dobson, you likely know that his relationship with anime is rather… complicated to say the least. Or, to let him explain it with his own words…

Dobson essentially likes silly and wacky 90s anime. But later on he hated anime in general, because it got too popular and a bad experience with an anime club in college soured his enjoyment of it. Furthermore, he put the blame on his lackluster art style and storytelling capabilities as seen in the likes of Formera, Patty and Alex ze Pirate, on anime in general, while also claiming that Disney pulling the plug on 2D animation is the result of the “anime inspired” Treasure Planet, meaning anime in a sense deprived him of his chance at working at his dream job and “ruining” western animation.

Which to me has always been ignorant as fuck. For starters, I can understand not liking certain stories or genres, either for objective or subjective reasons. But to hate on an entire nation’s form of entertainment (not just individual shows or genres), depriving yourself of the chance of potentially watching a lot of good stuff while also being rather insulting to these other works and people enjoying them? Especially when the stuff you can supposedly “stomach” has been rather simplistic compared to other things?

 Second, blaming Japan for “poisoning” your art style? What, did the ghost of Osamu Tezuka possess you and FORCE you to put sweatdrops on your characters forehead while also going for the rather simplistic character style of Rumiko Takahashi, as well as emulating the slapstick of the likes as Slayers and Ranma ½?

 Next, if he had emulated them successfully, I say he would have actually managed to tell decent enough stories worth to read online. Not create Uncle Peggy aka “Discount Happosai” or the bland proto-Isekai known as Formera.

I mean, let’s give some context here: There have been people who successfully managed to emulate certain anime and manga aesthetics into western animation and make it work. Otherwise we wouldn’t have gotten the likes of Avatar-The last Airbender, Samurai Jack, the Animatrix, Thundercats 2011, Super Robot Monkey Hyperforce Go, Kim Possible, W.I.T.C.H, Megas XLR and Wakfu. You know, shows that are actually awesome as hell.

Heck, Dobson’s favorite animated show of the last decade, Steven Universe, is heavily inspired by anime aesthetics to the point of being embarrassing.

 But Dobson… well, he emulated anime aesthetics in his work the same way as these crimes against animation did.

Combined with his general shortcomings as a storyteller it is no wonder his initial comics did not do well.

 Lastly, and sorry for digressing here a bit, but if the Wikipedia entry on Treasure Planet is something to go by, there was no real inspiration by anime involved in making this movie.

Supposedly the idea of making an animated Treasure Planet in outer space movie was already pitched by Ron Clements WAY BACK in 1985 but only came to be after Michael Eisner greenlighted stuff in the late 90s. Design wise the movie was supposed to look 70% traditional and 30% sci-fi inspired and people took inspiration for the art style by illustrators associated with the Brandywine School of Illustration. A western style of illustration established in the 19th century, that had a big impact on the illustration styles for many 19th and early 20th century adventure novels and short stories.

What, is anime supposed to be the only form of animation allowed to have sci fi elements or steampunk in it? Fucks sake, The Lion King and Atlantis, which came out one year earlier to Treasure Planet, were likely more inspired by anime. Don’t believe me? Watch Atlantis and then a certain anime by Studio Gainax called “Nadia-Secret of Blue Water”. Or read up on the controversy surrounding the two.

The truth is, it is not entirely clear what caused Disney to shut down 2D feature film animation in the early 2000s. In fact, if anything, most people put the blame on Michael Eisner and a certain change in the publics taste in movies in general, combined with Disney trying to turn almost every movie they had into a franchise via cheap follow up movies on video and DVD.

And even if Disney did not shut down, are we really supposed to believe that a certain guy with fedora would have made it big at Disney to the point Alex ze Pirate would have been made into a feature film?

But Dobson could never quite understand this and instead of “reinventing” himself properly, he would rant about anime and its fans in one form or another…

 And on the peak of his hissy fit create this little art piece he baptized Anime Sux. Alternatively “West vs East”. Or as I like to call it, slap a jap.

Now, the pic was done in 2008 and Dobson claimed sometimes in the last decade, that he no longer holds his old opinions. Unfortunately, by that point he would also more or less use the chance to vent in his webcomic about anime (or rather its fans), which brings us finally back to SYAC.

 While Dobson never outright thematized in more detail WHY he hates anime and manga in SYAC (likely cause if his comic reasoning was even slightly like his reasoning in his blogs, people would have torn him apart like a bag of paper) he did use the format to punch down on anime fans and their preferences.

 For example, for someone who has a 4chan story going around of having been rather arrogant towards others in college for not liking Ranma ½, Dobson has THIS little college related comic to show off, where he portrays an aspiring manga artist as a delusional jackass.

Then in this strip titled manga, his manga fan is essentially portrayed as a young woman dressing up like a very stereotypical high school anime girl, who is in the wrong for even just DARING to draw her comics in the direction manga are read.

On one hand, I get Dobson’s point. She could be at risk of alienating a market of readers as she is obviously drawing for a western audience. Then again, if she doesn’t draw a traditional western comic but a manga, why shouldn’t she? I mean, as long as she enjoys it, which I assume she does as she seems genuinely just happy when stating that she likes manga, why not let her? Plus, this comic was drawn in the late 2000s. I think by then most people kinda knew how to read from right to left, so Dobson’s claim she would alienate or confuse people is kinda redundant. If anything I find a) Dobson getting angry at her just very petty (just let her have fun) and b) portraying a western manga fan as someone who would be confused by the sheer idea of reading stuff from right to left is also in itself just really dumb and insulting. What is Dobson trying to imply? That anime fans are so stuck in the way they consume certain media, they can’t act according to “western standards” again?

Then there is this strip where yet another female anime fan is essentially portrayed as the embodiment of how “ignorant” manga fans are of the idea of different art styles...

Which becomes rather laughable once Dobson describes his style as a mixture of European, American and  Japanese. Why? Because he is the one oversimplifying things, rather than the anime fan.

You see while anime and manga of all sorts do share certain aesthetics (like the black and white art style, emphasize on the eyes of characters, the way hair is drawn, recurring tropes within certain genres and so on) style wise (both in art and storytelling) there can be severe differences, depending on the artist alone. Akira Toriyama’s style differentiates significantly from the likes of Eichiro Oda, Rumiko Takahashi, Kentaro Miura, Tezuka, Kaori Yuki and so forth.

The same also goes for many western artists. Herge had a significantly different style from Uderzo and Goscinny. Don Rosa has a different style in which he drew Scrooge McDuck than Carl Barks did. Rob Liefeld and Jim Lee draw mainstream superheroes differently compared to how Jack Kirby, George Perez and others did. Heck, Ethan Van Sciver and Jim Lee were closely associated with Green Lantern in the 2000s and look how they differentiate.

 Which btw is the kind of skill level Dobson would have needed to have, to make it in the mainstream industry

So when Dobson says “I draw in a combination of American, Western and Japanese” all I can think is the following: THAT DOESN’T NARROW IT DOWN! WHAT THE HECK HAVE YOU LEARNT IN COLLEGE ABOUT COMICS? WHICH ARTISTS, WORKS AND STORYTELLERS DO YOU TRY TO EITHER EMULATE OR HAVE BEEN INSPIRED BY?

Then there is this little thing…

Where do I even begin? How about the fact that Dobson’s hand in the last panel looks like he has lost a thumb? The fact that the little boy, anime fan or not, is aware of Sae Sawanoguchi, a character from a short lived OVA and anime series from the 90s, which considering his age, I kinda doubt he would be aware off. Unlike Dobson, who got into anime in the 90s and admits in fact within the posts I loaded up earlier, that he had watched the anime in particular, known in the west as Magic User Club.

Then there is the implication by Dobson, that anime is so “corruptive” as a medium, little kids don’t even know the most basic characters in western animation because of it. I expect in a next panel, that all of sudden some 50s PSA guy comes along and lectures me that if I want this kind of thing not to happen at MY convention, I need to teach little kids more about the GOOD western animation, instead of the BAD eastern one. Then there is this rather unflattering portrayal of a shonen ai/shojou ai fangirl…

 Which makes me laugh cause honestly, even some of the worst shonen ai and shojou ai can do better in portraying a “realistic” gay relationship than Patty if you ask me.

Also, as much as I think fangirls can be extremely thirsty (I have read my fair share of extremely stupid yaoi and yuri fanfics) I think that in hindsight Dobson is really not anyone to complain about shipping obsession and sex when he himself has KorraSami, the Ladybug fandom and a certain rat pirate under his floppy belt.

As you can imagine, Dobson would get heat for those comics, considering how he himself has been greatly inspired by anime and manga for his major comics. And while I don’t have any explicit deviantart posts of him reacting to criticism in that regard, I do have this comic which addresses it directly.

 And yeah, if I were schoolgirl number 4, I would just sigh and walk away after telling Dobson that his mistakes and shortcomings are not related to having consumed anime, but rather by what sort of anime (and other stories) he had consumed and the amount of effort he had put in creating his stories instead of emulating just something more popular. Plus, if you really want people to draw more from life, how about drawing more from life yourself down the line? And no, tracing Star Wars movie frames does not count.

Finally, Dobson, considering how very little most people think of your work, I say mission accomplished: People have learnt from your mistakes and know not to be a Dobson.

And at last, there is this comic, which kinda wraps up Dobson’s “vendetta” with anime and manga fans within the pages of SYAC.

By trying to mock anime fans and make them look just as shallow as he is. I at least suppose. Honestly, the message of this comic is rather muddled. On one hand, I would say the strawman accusing Dobson hates anime just because it is popular is very simplified. After all, Dobson has made his reasons for not liking anime clear in a few more details. It’s just that the details in and on themselves in real life are still rather shallow and boil down to a lot of personal bias rather than an objective criticism of actual flaws. Which I think is worth pointing out.

But frankly, what is Dobson trying to say or point out here? That the strawman is not so different or even dumber than him, because he hates Justin Bieber for “shallow” and superficial reasons too?

Okay, this doesn’t quite work as well as Dobson wants. First, the argument Dobson’s strawman makes is in huge parts based on some verified statements Dobson made for not liking anime. Second, he just says a name and that triggers the guy to express his hatred for Bieber. We don’t know why the guy hates Bieber and you could make in fact the case, that he hates him not because he is popular, but because he has a genuine issue with the artist, his work or his behavior as a human being. Third, if you want to make yourself look like the better person Dobson, try to argue with the guy and make solid arguments why you don’t like anime. Instead you just deflect the criticism by changing the subject and then try to make yourself look like the “smarter” person in the room by mocking your critic in the most condescending manner.

Which as I think about it, sounds like your modus operandi on twitter and tumblr.

Weirdly enough, that more or less marks the “end” of Dobson tackling anime fans and the beef he has with them within the pages of SYAC. Despite how much Dobson’s negative reputation especially in early years was build around him hating on anime and belittling its fans, he didn’t really do more afterwards in the Dobson focused pages of SYAC. And mind you, those strips were also separated by other strips in-between, focused on Dobson just being at conventions.

Unfortunately for him, the strips didn’t really help in any way to diminish that negative reputation and instead just confirmed for many, that Dobson can’t handle criticism about his flawed opinion on anime. If anything, it just made people think even less of Dobson, as the strips just painted him as someone who would rather portray his critics as strawman he can be “rightfully” annoyed at, instead of fellow humans with slightly different tastes in entertainment, who are still worth listening to.

So, now that we have the anime fan related “annoyances” out of the way, what other sort of silly problems in making webcomics would Dobson cover in his strips and are “relatable” to everyone?

Lets see some of these examples in the next part.

You answered quickly, then turned off the phone and resumed watching the next episode of ‘Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood’. There was a lot of your favorite character at this arc, so unfortunately you couldn’t stop watching it right now! ‘Sorry, baby!’

Todoroki, on the other hand, had been staring at his smartphone’s screen for two or three... or maybe four minutes, probably not catching your joke about your alleged date with a non-existent 2D character. Only after long thought he decide to go to your room in the dorm.

Shoto expected everything; that you will be getting ready for a mentioned date, that you’re drunk or something, that you will cry while devising a plan to break up with him... but he certainly didn’t expect that you will lie on the bed hugging a large and fluffy dakimakura with the anime character’s face and body.

“Y/N?”

You glanced to the side, pausing the anime episode, and raised an eyebrow. “Oh. Hi?”

“What are you doing?”

“I have a date. I wrote it, remember?” You laughed softly as you sat on the bed. “You want to join?” You asked, but seeing his surprised expression, you decided to explain it. “I just watch anime, Sho. It’s a inside joke that you ‘go on a date’ with your favorite character when you just watch your favorite title. And my favorite character is Roy Mustang! Come here, please and watch it with me.”

After a short while, you played a few seconds of the anime for your boyfriend, and he raised his left eyebrow.

“Why you like this ‘Roy Mustang’ if you have me? Plus, my power is much better and I don’t need gloves to activate my quirk.”

You looking in shock at the boy, then blushed hardly. A moment later you grabbed his hand and pulled him to you, hugging him. 

‘I guess, I just like hot guys Shoto-kun.’ You thought, still hugging Todoroki.

“Y/N why do you like this Robot-Man more than me?” Izuku pouted so you looked at him in big surprise. For a moment you didn’t know what the young High School student was talking about, but after the next few seconds you realized he meant your favorite 2D boy – Genos.

“I never said I liked him more than you, baby.” You laughed softly as you looked again at the black and white page of the manga, which showed the changing pictures and the fight of your favorite hero with the huge scolopendre-like monster.

“B-But... You keep reading about him, you have him on your wallpaper, you have his photos on wall, and you even cry to him while watching anime. Not to mention that you’ve watched this title about eighteen times already...! You love him more than me! I’m so sad, Y/N-chan!”

You raised your left eyebrow, laughing softly, looking at the book again and then closing it with a little, colorful bookmark. Of course, the bookmark with the image of Genos. Lmao.

“Izu-kun... No offence, but you know that well – all your room is in All Might’s things; bedding, mugs, pens, carpet and posters. When we kiss there, I can feel his smile and eyes on me. All. The. Time.” You said honestly, causing his pouty cheeks to flush after a short while, like two huge red ripe apples from an orchard.

“Yeah... B-But...”

“Anyway, I like this manga also because the main character looks like you. He also beats the villains with one punch! You should read this with me... I think you will like it, baby.”

This one, simple sentence was enough to interest Midoriya, who was (yeah, let’s face it) obsessed with physically strong characters/heroes/people.

Unfortunately, after a short time you turned your boyfriend into a monster who started buying various ‘One Punch Man’ stuff... Mr. Yagi Toshinori had a competition from now. Lol.

“Leave me alone! They’re playing an important game with Shiratorizawa Academy right now! I can’t, I just can’t! I have to support my favorite team!” You squeaked as your boyfriend pulls your leg and tries to pull you out of the safe ‘nest’ on the bed. “Katsuki! LEAVE ME ALONE, YOU BASTARD.”

“Shitty woman, let’s go on a date.”

“Piss off, let me spend time with my beautiful volleyball players! I missed them.” You almost cry holding onto the wooden bed frame while kicking your boyfriend in the face. “Let me finish watching the game and we’ll go on that date. I promise. I PROMISE.” You add quietly, looking at the screen again.

Bakugo snorted loudly, finally sitting down on your white carpet and leaning back against the bed. Then he took out his phone to browse his social media, but shortly afterwards he speaks back again. His raspy voice was irritated.

“I just don’t understand why you like that anime and that black-haired idiot so much... Like, I’m better in every fucking way.”

“Don’t offend Kageyama, you stupid ass.” You growled, poking him with your foot. “I like him because he’s so handsome and cute. He’s tall, he can play volleyball, he has beautiful, blue eyes...” You started exchanging softly, blushing, which made your boyfriend mad.

After a moment was heard a sound of a laptop hatch closing loudly in the room.

“KATSUKI, YOU SON OF A BITCH. I HATE YOU.”

“Yeah, yeah. Anyway. We’re going on a date. Now.”

The blonde boy looked at you with a very scared expression on his face. When he saw the tears in your shiny eyes and the blush on your both cheeks, he approached you, asking if you were all right.

“Nothing’s alright, Denki!” You screamed out, stopping the episode of ‘Kaichou wa Maid-sama!’ and then looking back at your still worried boyfriend. “Usui kissed Misaki. I don’t know what to do with myself. I’M SO JEALOUS!” You squealed as you grabbed your warm forehead. “I’d like to kiss him too!” You added, causing the fear on his face to turn into surprise and confusion.

“Baby, I... Huh?”

“I would like to be a character in this anime. Life is hard, Denki. Life is painful.” You sighed, glancing at the colorful screen again.

After a while, however, you felt a warm touch on your hand, and then a gentle tug of your body towards the blonde’s chest. You looked at him questioningly, but before you could ask what he was doing, your man pulled you even closer, finally kissing your sweet lips. The kiss was gentle, slow and sweet; it was that kind you liked mostly and personally.

When you pulled away from Kaminari, he smiled at you, tucking unruly strands from your head behind one of your reddy ears.

“You may not live in the same anime as Usui, but at least you live next to me. It’s nice, isn’t it, Y/N?”

Your cheeks flushed even more than a few minutes ago, when you watched the last episode of your favorite title with interest. So you nodded gently. “That’s very nice, thank you, cutie.”

“Y/N, why do you like this bad and nasty man so much?” Kirishima looked at you, and you paused the third episode, looking at him with amusement in your both, bright eyes.

“He’s not bad at all. He does justice as he sees fit.” You ate some popcorn and the boy pouted. “Hm? What’s wrong, baby?”

“I just don’t understand why you like this anime so much... There are much more enjoyable series! Honey, please, let’s watch ‘Pokémon’ or something where good and love wins. Pretty please.”

“But, you know that I don’t like this kind of anime or manga. I prefer what I’m watching now, Eiji-kun.”

“Yes, but you know it by heart!” He said reproachfully, and you shrugged your shoulders again. Kirishima gave up for a few more moments, watching your cute face, which with each second of the episode turned to an expression of admiration and big as heck stress. ‪Template & Pale in Star Sanses Studio!!!

@unu-nunu-art I love your sons and I been trying to keep it in because they came in middle of the story, until I found Template & Pale’s hobby are writing fanfic & cosplay (plus someone TEMPing for me to do this *look at Shandy*), now they appear even more earlier as why SSStudio got more income even tho their studio is so new(other than Blue’s announcement on his YouTube channel). So I hope it’s ok for these two being part of this tiny AU😂❤️.

Template, the #1 INKmagination’s STAN, promotes the heck out of it to support his idol‬ (also with Pale’s help as a cosplayer to promote the character design and start fundraiser to help SSStudio). All of these going well till Core announcing to an  internship for young animators who want to work with the studio (aka their way wanting more labor😂), so Template just yeet himself into it even tho his skill is more of 2D traditional animation instead of the Studio’s 3D formate (curse Error and Ink who can’t animate 2D traditional animation for crap, but something will change..).

Template and Error’s connect is not going to be so good🤣😂. Error kinda point out the thing he hate about himself most, haphephobia, in front of his idol plus Error complaining about Ink all the time that he very don’t like Error at all, so most of time he try to avoiding him if they not in internship. Template have to deal that in an animator’s world, networking and teamwork is the most important thing if he want to go far or he will fail. Hate it or not, Temp learn it from Error, who learn it hard way from the NightTerror Studio with Nightmare and other animator involves to keep him have a job. Error find Template hilarious and look down on him as amateurs (which is somewhat true), especially his reaction when he noticed that Ink and Error got closer more deeper the story go.

Template and Pale’s friendship if that even is one, in the better term, strange. Temp don’t really want to be friends with Pale because Pale have a tendency of following him around in their high school (Pale just want a friend, plus he like Temp’s animation that he showcase on their art show and also Temp kind thoughts that Pale stole his art at one point, but that don’t matter because Pale more surprised that Temp notice him in the background 😂). But these two kinda stuck together because due to Temp’s haphephobia (plus his somewhat narcissism) that make Temp just like to work alone but try to hide that phobia when interacting with people, make other people see him as weird and not talk to him. Temp is lonely and hate that isolatation that he try to hide all the things he hate about himself that he start to get use to Pale, who people already don’t want to talk with, and kinda make Pale his “sidekick” on his animation work as an in betweener. Sometime they cosplay together or Pale read Temp’s fanfics of (technicality Dream’s) ink’s character, they can define their relationship as friends but not really 😂🤣🤣.

Now I got to let them out in this AU, I finally can rest for now🤣🤣. I hope you welcome these two in this AU, I love them😂❤️❤️❤️❤️.

It’s been a long year everyone, but at last we have arrived. RWBY Volume Eight. This is the fourth volume I’ll be doing text reviews of, which feels crazy. I’ve been watching this show more or less form the start, and I can safely say that this is the most scared I’ve ever been. Not because of the quality, I have high hopes for that. But we know how the last volume ended. We knew that it was going to carry over into this one. And it was even MORE tense than we expected. It’s gonna be one heck of a Chapter 1 review, I can say that.

Before that, we have a new opening! Sadly, to my knowledge, the song title hasn’t been announced yet. But other than that... oh man. There is a LOT to unpack here. SO much to analyze. So much to speculate. Once more Jeff and Casey gave us a banger, and Casey was NOT kidding when she said it was dark. But before we proceed any further, let’s get the disclaimer out of the way

(Warning: This post WILL contain spoilers for RWBY V8 Chapter 1. If you have yet to see the episode and do NOT wish to be spoiled, PLEASE scroll past this post. You have been warned.)

We begin seeing Mantle int he state we’re used to, but it glitches. The blues and whites shift into reds, fires and chaos are widespread, and the Grimm are wreaking havoc. This is going to be what Mantle looks like the moment that Salem strikes the city. The one watching this all unfold? Ruby. She failed to stop Ironwood and the division between our heroes, Atlas, and Mantle is greater than before. The poor girl can only watch in horror as Mantle burns, Atlas continuing to hover above... for now at least.

The theme oft the volume, contrast to last volume’s themes of trust and fear, is mistrust and division. The first chapter demonstrated this, but I’ll save that for then. But here? We have the logo causing a divide between Ruby herself, and all of her allies. I could be reading into this too much, but I do have to wonder... si something going to happen that causes Ruby to strike out on her own? Do things go badly and she’s the only one who doesn’t quit? Does the pressure get to her and she does something that causes everyone, ever her own teammates and sister, to turn their backs on her? It’s hard to say, but I don’t think that Ruby is coming out of this 100% the same.

Ah, isn’t this nostalgic? Our girls really have come far. Ruby went from a naive, innocent girl with an overly idealistic dream to a true Huntress who wants to make lives better after witnessing how bad it can really be. Weiss when from a spoiled rich girl suffering form neglect and a controlling father, to a defiant young woman determined to reclaim her family name her way. Blake has gone from a frightened girl to a woman broke free of her abuser’s control and is fighting for both equality and for her loved ones. Yang was a confident, yet reckless girl with abandonment issues and while she went through great loss, she came back even stronger and shining even brighter.

The girls have changed. They have grown. They’ve lost their innocence along the way, but they survived and kept moving forward. But while they could, another failed to do the same...

The general has completed his descent into villainy. He is now a cold, heartless tin soldier who is willing to take any step he deems necessary to protect Atlas. Even if it means cold-blooded murder. Even here, there is nothing but coldness in his eyes and as the shadows engulf him, we see the image of Atlas fall into ruin. We also see Clover’s badge, and the images of his remaining teammates and Qrow. Marrow in particular just looks uncertain about everything, a major contrast to how upbeat he was last volume. Harriet... just looks like she has been consumed by hate and rage. And if I had to guess, it’s going to be aimed at Qrow. She may claim to not be friends with her teammates, but losing Clover is going to have some very, VERY bad affects on her and the others. Especially under Ironwood’s influence.

We see Qrow downcast before Robyn offers him a hand in support. Yeah, think it’s safe to say that these two are gonna launch some kind of prison break. Looking forward to it~! Then we cut to Oscar, clutching his head and looking like he is in pain. He’s surrounded by Grimm and it looks like he’s int he Grimm Whale. We know that Salem is after him, so... yeah, my concern is VERY high. Also we see Salem in a new form and... umm... the apparition of her in V5 has now been topped in... help us world.

Returning to the theme of division, that seems to be central especially for Ren and Nora. Last volume, they were in conflict with Nora unable to get Ren to open up, even after they finally kissed. Here? It seems the drift is only going to grow. Ren glances at Nora, before facing away. Nora had been facing away, but then she glances back at Ren before turning around. She just looks so upset and pained as she stares at the man she loves. Along with Nora willingly splitting from Ren in Chapter 1... it’s gonna be a ROUGH volume for Renora shippers everywhere.

We come to the Schnee Family. Weiss and Winter walk past each other. At first, Winter looks like her usual, composed self. But as she passes her sister, her attire changes to have her new cybernetic features. her composed expression shifts into one of sadness and maybe even guilt. Weiss seems to notice, looking up with wide eyes before the scene shifts. We know that the two will be in conflict now due to their opposing sides, even though neither clearly wants to be. Chances are they’ll meet face-to-face again, and it is NOT going to go well as they must decide whether or nit to fight each other on their respective sides.

Then we see Whitley and Willow. No Jaques, though we know he will be appearing. Willow continues to look tired and depressed, and I can only hope that somehow SOMETHING goes better for her here. But then we have Whitley. Despite his role being minor, Whitley got hit a heavy blow with Jaques arrest curtesy of Weiss. But here he looks like he’s trying to look calculative... but his fear is shining through. The kid is in a bad place and I doubt that he’s broken form his father’s control. Will Weiss help him out of it? or is it too late?

Then we shift to a chess board. We have Salem, her pawns all ready and charging ahead with their attack. Now I knwo nothing about Chess, but clearly the Queen is winning. Ironwood is on the opposite side, all of his chess pieces fading into dust as the board breaks away. He stands alone, completely open to checkmate. The King is about to be overthrown. Ironwood has driven off hsi allies, and the remaining are likely either going to soon follow or fall to Salem’s forces. For all his efforts to save Atlas, all that he is done is secure it’s downfall, as well as his own. Yeah, even if by some miracle he realizes his mistakes, I don’t think that James is coming out of this alive, and it will all be by his own doing.

We see Watts being Watts, typing away. I have to wonder... does he somehow escape form custody? Or does ironwood willingly let him free for his side? The guy is desperate, he’ll do anything to win, even strike up a bargain. Which Watts would absolutely take and use the access for his own means. Maybe even some hacking...

Then we have Pietro, himself hard at work. Behind him is a mirror, and his reflection turns to look at Penny. Compared to the bright smile she had int he last opening, Penny looks scared and dishearted. She is looking at her hands, closing her eyes as though in resignation. We see her reflection glance at her. To just increase my fears of a potential ‘Watts hacking Penny’ theory, here are some images from later in the opening.

The first has Penny up above the heroes. At first I thought it was just her flying up to get into a battle stance. I didn’t realize how she was facing the gang face first. Right in front of Amity, and in between Atlas and Salem. Then from the tail-end, we have this 2D effect showing her eye. It goes from the usual green color, to a bright red, which soon engulfs the rest of the lines. Yeah... I know I panicked about Penny getting hacked last volume... but I am even moreso now! 

A snowflake falls into Ren’s palm before promptly meting. Due to the color fo his glove, it looks like a flower petal. He looks down at it forlorn. Jaune puts a hand on his shoulder and he, Yang, and Oscar are there. Btu the support doesn’t do anything to change Ren’s expression. We then see a flower petal fly by Nora, who tries to catch it. She fails, but Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Penny appear at her side. This perks her up as she gets into a battle stance. Once more, emphasizing the divide between Renora and showing us our current team dynamics. They have separate goals, but they aren’t divided... at least, not right now.

Then we have this shot of Ruby and Yang. I’ve bene predicting for a while that there was going to be a conflict between this two. They have VERY different ways of handling things, and last volume made it clear that while she stood by her, Yang was having doubts about Ruby’s decisions. I’ll go more into that when I review Chapter 1, but I am hoping that this shot shows that no matter what issues they have between them and even if they end up arguing, they WILL work past it. They’re still sisters. They still love each other. They still ultimately have the same goal. No matter what happens, they will be there for each other.

After a really cool battle sequence (I’d post the pics but this si already a MASSIVE post), it freezes. When it does, we see Cinder walk past it. At first, she is displaying the demeanor that we expect from her. Confident, egotistical,a nd wearing that sick smirk on her face. You know the one. She also walks past neo and Emerald. Neo looks exactly what we expect, annoyed. Emerald looks more optimistic though, also expected. I think it’s safe to say that Neo’s gonna turn on Cinder fairly soon, especially after Chapter 1. But will Emerald? We’’ve been hoping, but will this be the moment she finally realizes that Cinder doesn’t care about her and get out? Only time will tell.

But Cinder’s usual smugness stops when she grabs her arm in pain and screams. Her Grimm Arm. As many have noted, the arm has slowly been consuming her body. It went form just up to her elbow, to now engulfing up to her shoulder. Not to mention Winter managed to slice it off, and it grew back in a pretty violent manner. Given what we saw in the start of the episode, it looks like we may FINALLY be getting the Cinder backstory and truly understanding her motives. I think that Cinder will reach a breaking point in this volume. One that is NOT gonna be pretty or do our heroes any good.

We get the usual villain lineup which ends at Salem, We get a close-up of her eyes, and in them are the Relics. No shock that those are what she’s aiming for. Then we see both the Lamp and the Staff, and they both glow and let loose the blue smoke. It brings up a question... we all know that the Gods will be summoned if all four are brought together. But what would happen if two are brought together? If the two are used together, what will it cause? Either way, both of them are gonna be vital in whatever happens.

The image glitches again, going form the  Grimm devastation to Ruby looking out at Atlas. She is with the others, her scythe being use to cause a division line between the two current groups (as seen in the top image). Then, the ice cracks beneath her feet. She and the rest of Team RWBY fall into the depths below. Remember that scene in the V6 opening when Qrow got dragged down by Grimm arms? And how that symbolized his conflict int he season as he endured a downward spiral? Well... it might be Team RWBY’s turn.

The girls fall into the water, sinking into the abyss. But there are light particles surrounding them, and Ruby opens her eyes to see the light above. The source? The Staf fof Creation? She reaches up for it, only for a group to Grimm arms to grab her and keeping her from going upward. The lyric accompanying this is “Sometimes it’s worth it all to risk the fall and fight for every life.” Could this hint to Ruby deciding to use the Staff to stop Salem? If she does, then this will guarantee Atlas’ Fall f she makes even a minor mistake. Is that a risk that she is willing to take? What will happen if she does so? How will her team react? Will this cause a greater divide? Like I said, Ruby ain’t gonna have a good time in this volume...

Then we have the following words appear.

Happy Ever After. The same words we see at the end of every fairy tale. But life isn’t a fairy tale now, is it? The words get crossed out and twisted. Until at the end, we are left with...

Yeah... if you needed more proof that this volume was going to be dark... here you go.

We end with the girls weapons landing at the bottom of the abyss. The last to do so is Crescent Rose, and we cut to it emended in the ice with the moon behind it. It’s a shot that reminds me GREATLY of Ruby’s first ever appearance in the Red Trailer all those years ago. And aas the petals scatter, we have the credit to Monty Oum. Your show has come so far Monty, hope you’re proud right now.

This opening was fantastic! The song sounds like a VERY twisted version of Lets Just Live, being about the heroes realizing the true horrors of their world but there’s no real motivation to keep living this time. Now it’s all about how bad things have gotten, and ends with wondering if sometimes, it’s best to take a risk to save everyone. As far as where I rank this, song-wise it hasn’t topped Let’s Just Live, Rising, and Trust Love, but I think it’s beaten the other four. That can always change though. Animation wise... I’m still trying to decide if it’s topped Opening 7 or not. But it is very, VERY good. The fact that they managed to make it look this good despite the work-at-home environment is commendable.

In your “Little Jacky AU”, do you think Jacky would have a second mental breakdown like in the comics? (Obviously under different circumstances since he couldn’t get a job at QuackWorks). And if so, would he be anything like QuackerJack was in the comics? How intimidating and effective would he be? Would the rest of the Fearsome Four try to help Little Jacky?

Ah, this was the sort of question I was wondering would eventually happen. As the idea of the Little Jacky AU is that the only core change is QuackerJack’s age, which dictates the changes made in the ripple that ensues, that would mean that there would have to be quite a shift in the comic set up, because, again, Jacky’s a child

The first major to note would be that he would no longer be employed by QuackWerks at any given time, due to being underaged and as bad as St. Canard can be with it’s justice system, I’m quite sure child labor is strictly prohibited regardless of the fact that a mob boss has control of the conglomerate at that time. 

No QuackWerks means no being metaphorically beaten down by a system that set him up to fail for the goal of squeezing out every ounce of individuality he had and crushing his dreams, at least not in the setting of being a cog in the machine. This has to be altered in some way if I were to keep the darker shift intact without like... doing what QuackerJack does in the comic proper.

So instead, let’s focus on the time supposed time jump the comics loosely indicate, but never make a concrete decision on, as it’s implied to have been a year since the end of the cartoon despite having technology advance nearly 20 years in functionality. Like, Whiffle Boy was a platform 2D Sidescroller on a system that uses an Atari-esque joystick, but then suddenly they’re all playing an MMORPG that’s supposed to be advance polygons? What sort of computer classes have they been funding to get that sort of jump in one year?? Amazing!

Anyway, back to the timeline. I personally like to toy with that concept and imply in my other AU that it’s been more like a few years or something, so lets take a loose comic book time handling and say a few years. 

Lil Jacky would now be roughly 13, a young teenager, and not so keen on being the token Goofy Kid Mascot as much anymore for the Fearsome and wants to have his skills and aptitudes be recognized for their usefulness, and like... not just be dismissed because our boy here is getting older and honestly, no one has really taken as much effort as they should have for providing a more stable environment. 

Except maybe Claire, who is now no longer his girlfriend in this AU due to the clear age difference that now exists, but now either a temporary guardian or perhaps surrogate older sister figure who does genuinely want this kid to have a bright future. Like, one responsible normal adult who actually thinks that it’s absurd that the system hasn’t done much to keep this kid from hanging out with the wrong crowd. And Jacky does hold her in high regard, since she seems to be the only adult he knows that actually listens to what he has to say about things.

Because I’ve stated a few times before that in this AU, Negaduck isn’t nearly as cruel to Lil Jacky as canon Negaduck is to canon QuackerJack (because there’s enough indication in canon material that Negaduck ain’t that sort of monster and he’s also a type of Darkwing and all Darkwings are going to be nice to kids, and also, this is an AU, so I can make that work to my liking anyway). But Negaduck is still a jerk anyway, and still doesn’t take Jacky seriously as a team member, which has caused some animosity to grow over time.

Also, very important to note: Mr. Banana Brain does not get ripped to shreds in this AU. 

Back to the thing now...

Lil Jacky doesn’t like not being taken seriously. He’s a smart lad, he works hard, he follows orders, he does everything to try to earn Negaduck’s approval, but nope, he’s just the designated Token Kid it seems. Too soft. Too inexperienced. Too young. There’s no way a kid like him can come up with a good plan and not get caught. 

Jacky doesn’t like that, and one day, that all finally comes to a head and he’s had enough. Jacky is going prove him wrong, he’s going to prove them all wrong.

... Now that that mood is set for future inquiries, because I just made that all up on the spot while making the accompanying doodles, I suppose that the general emotional shift would be relatively the same, but he’s still a short stack here, so realistically, there is absolutely nothing stopping either Megavolt, Bushroot and/or Liquidator from grabbing him by the back of his shirt like a scruff and waiting for him to calm the heck down and ask him what the heck he’s upset about, but like... that’s too easy of an answer and a bit of a cop out.

The sad thing here is that they probably wouldn’t really realize that this emotional outburst is deeply rooted in something that needs addressing and this is just going to factor into things later down the line...

[Where My Twin Watches]: PMMM Rebellion - Part 3

After Charlotte has a snack and Hitomi’s Nightmare is resolved, the girls are walking to Mami’s, Sayaka and Kyoko once again chasing each other around Madoka. So this is the next morning, right? Did the girls just not sleep last night? I mean, Mami was getting ready for bed when “Bebe” said there was a Nightmare.

Speaking of, we get a nice reflection in the water of Bebe looking at us with a little smile. Please stop that. Mami’s saying she still has some chamomile tea which makes Madoka happy, although Kyoko’s not happy with her other offering of an apparently sour tea. Cue Sayaka teasing her about her sweet tooth, they squabble while Bebe bounces around babbling about wanting cheese-

Wait. Hold on.

Ranubis said:...Apparently Sayaka is a raspberry, Kyoko is an apple, Mami is cheese...

Mami, run!

Ok, while I now wait for Bebe to chow down on Mami again oh come ON Mami, now you’re just tempting fate.

[Mami]: “All right, all right. I’ve got to reward you too, Bebe.”

NO. NO YOU DO NOT.

While awful foreshadowing is going on, Madoka notices Homura is trailing behind. You ok, Homura?

Oh. OH.

[Homura]: “I wonder if our battles have always been like this?”

That right there… is a very interesting line.

Scattered shots of the city back to the fancy school, we

what the heck. teach don’t look right.

Yeah, ok. The math teacher has no face. It’s just a blotchy red blur with two dark spots for eyes. That is not a human face.

Homura’s glancing around GAH ok no I did not need to watch this part so late at night. Every non-named student has the same blotchy face, only our girls, Hitomi, and Kyosuke are normal.

Ok then! That confirms my thoughts on Homura’s line! Like I said last time, the sense of Something Is Wrong is really ramping up now. From the Witches/Wraiths being replaced by Nightmares to the NPCs losing cohesion, it’s clear that this world is off. Which goes back to my theory: the girls are being brainwashed to work for Charlotte. Only I was just thinking about the rest of the Madokrew, not Homura. She’s been brainwashed too. Only she’s waking up.

While I’m working on my conspiracy theory, Urobuchi’s trying to convince me that things are just fine with a cute little rooftop lunch between the Madokrew. Interrupted by a fullscreen flash of the Incubator’s eyes, I did not need that thank you. And a flash of Charlotte eating cheese, I get it already!

Yeah, while the rest of the crew is giggling away, Homura’s looking out over the city at how literally everyone else has Blotchy Face. From their fellow students running track, to young and old in parks, to everyone walking along the roads. The cracks in the deception are showing.

Later, we see another blimp (I KNEW those seemed out of place), and yep there is now a Labyrinth-style 2D music-box player in the park performing for some kids dressed in black. Everything’s slowly changing to the design of a Labyrinth. Now, how to get out of it?

Seems that Homura’s starting with Kyoko, asking her if things have felt a little “odd’ to her lately. Or, seems she hasn’t fully woken up herself yet, is just sharing her uncertainties. Specifically she’s speaking to Kyoko first because she feels the “oddest”. Gee, thanks. But yeah, post-character development Kyoko is certainly different from the standard timeline Kyoko who espouses the food chain. Not saying it’s a bad change, just saying.

Aha, making progress! Homura presses her on when she transferred to Mitakihara, and Kyoko can’t recall. The Labyrinth signs keep increasing, from more black-clothed children listening in the park to a veritable fleet of blimps now overhead.

Homura asks Kyoko to return with her to her hometown, see if it’s like the city that she remembers. Kyoko’s still confused at what Homura’s getting at, but she does trust her. And heck, she can get paid dinner at her favorite Ramen place. Road trip!

Said road trip is a disorienting array of bridges in the background and overhead, I think I spotted the Golden Gate in the mess. And yeah, now the sky’s all blotchy, with backgrounds of faint windmills. Kyoko doesn’t seem to notice how disorienting things are now, just remarking that her hometown will be the next stop. She hits the button

Uh oh. There’s just an announcement that the next stop is Mitakihara, which Kyoko protests. Back “home”, they discuss that they know they got on the bus for her hometown, resolve to try it again and make sure they pick the right one. They try again… but this time the bus announcement is for the middle school. Fed up by this point, Kyoko literally jumps onto the hood of the bus and yells through the glass at the driver. No response.

[Kyoko]: “What the hell is going on?”

That’s what I’d like to know, Food Girl!

One last attempt, Homura says they’ll go on foot this time. And so they wander through backgrounds that I am too unnerved to properly appreciate how nice they look, until to my utter lack of surprise, they face Mitakihara City again.

Kyoko suspects an illusion, tries summoning her Soul Gem before Homura stops her. She has the sense that “nothing actually exists outside of this Mitakihara City”?

Uh, that’s kind of a big deal. I’m thinking it’s brainwashing and Labyrinth by Charlotte, but you’re saying it’s a pocket dimension? Is this the power that a Cannibal!Witch holds?

Homura asks Kyoko to keep the fact that they can’t leave secret from the rest of the Madokrew for a while, she wants to investigate on her own first. Kyoko protests, but Homura says it’ll probably be safer if they pretend they haven’t discovered anything. Don’t want to alert your jailer, after all. Who knows what-

GAH ok really really did not need the image of them surrounded by NPCs with crayon-drawings of their heads. Methinks Charlotte is giving them a warning. Kyoko stands down, and the NPCs return to “normal”. The warning is clear: Keep doing what you were doing before trying to leave, and things will be the same as ever.

But even if they have to play along for now, at least we got something out of this: Kyoko’s remembering seeing Tough Homura before. And she approves! Have some food.

Ladies and Gentlemen, with a hairflip and heelstomp worthy of Satsuki, the Mysterious Transfer Student we know and love is back!

Brrrr! Well that’s a thing. Even beyond that, though, I remember in the show that the girls could exit a Labyrinth while the Witch still lived. If they can’t now, then that means that this is a stronger Labyrinth than usual. More fuel for the Cannibal!Witch fire! Also, now that Homura’s broken out of her Meek Mode I expect things are going to get loud. After all, in the show once she tossed the glasses and let her hair down she started raiding armories for fun and profit, my threat estimation of her has increased greatly.

Pixu Ponders: My Favourite Games of the Decade

As the 2010s come to a close, I wanted to take a look back on my gaming experiences of the past ten years. I wish to look back on the games that I believe shaped my teen and young adult years, games that defined this decade for me, and all my treasured memories with them.

As we go into this, please bear in mind that these are my opinions. If you don’t like what you see, cool.

Furthermore, just because of long this darn post is, I’ve had to keep my list pretty short. If there’s a specific game you think I’ve missed, it’s because I had to cut it out.

Among the games cut from the list are: * Portal 2 * Super Mario Odyssey * Undertale * A Hat in Time * Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild * Stardew Valley * Monster Hunter (3U and World) (If you wish for me to write up about these games like the list below, shoot me an ask.)

The Binding of Isaac (2011 and 2014) (Franchise)

To me, the Binding of Isaac is a trend-defining indie game that, along with a couple other entries on this list, I believe contributed to the indie game boom.

The Binding of Isaac, created by Super Meat Boy's Edmund McMillen, depicts a young boy trying to escape his mother (and his inner torment) by delving into his basement and slaying countless monsters with his tears. Amongst many things, The Binding of Isaac stands out due to its simplistic art, unusual fleshy monsters, frequent depictions of... excrement, and a variety of other unsavoury material.

In spite of the crass material and immature nature its contents carry, The Binding of Isaac is a surprisingly deep and heavily replayable game. Many Roguelites that have sprung this decade like to say “No run is the same” but nowhere is this more clear than in the game that kickstarted the modern Roguelite trend. Within the game, Isaac can collect a wide variety of items that can help better slay monsters or navigate the labyrinthine levels of his basement. Isaac can pick up an item that allows him to shoot a large laser of blood, he could obtain a knife to throw at enemies, he can pick up an item that suspends his tears in midair and then release in a volley of bullets Kylo Ren style. When this game says “No run is the same”, it means it.

On Steam, I have over 250 hours on the game’s 2014 remake (Binding of Isaac Rebirth). I have approx. 300 of the 413 achievements the game has to offer. To say that I love and play the heck out of this game is an understatement. And it’s not even my most played game on Steam.

Hollow Knight (2017)

Hollow Knight was a surprise favourite of mine. Being a big fan of metroidvania games, I knew I was going to like this funky little bug game. After all, the game seemed fun and was going to be something of a hybrid between Metroid-style exploration and progression but a Dark Souls health system and storytelling. What’s not to like?

I will be real here, the first two areas of the game weren’t all that amazing. Though there were pleasant sights, neat characters, and simple but kinda fun gameplay, I couldn’t help but feel like wanting... more. Something more captivating. Perhaps something more amazing might await me if I push on through. A hurdle that I needed to overcome. Would it actually happen or will this fun but unimpressive saunter through the world of insects be all there is? And boy were my instincts right.

I will not go into the specifics but the game’s appeal and charm finally clicked for me after a few hours in. It was a combination of taking on two very specific bosses and entering a specific area of the game that instantly made me fall in love. I was enamoured. What had simply been me crossing a game off my bucket list had turned into an adventure I was whole-heartedly engaged in. This game’s adventure was now my own. It was an adventure that I hadn’t been quite as engaged with as... Kingdom Hearts, honestly. And if my posts on here are any indication, that’s quite the feat.

Hollow Knight’s usage of atmosphere, clever writing and worldbuilding, and simple but challenging gameplay are something of a brilliant recipe. I was fascinated by every single snippet of dialogue, smiling as my little insect buddy clashed with perilous foes, wowed by some of the levels, and charmed by every character who I happened to stumble upon.

Though I only played it so recently (Spring 2019 for reference), I can very confidently put it as one of my favourite games of all-time. A list shared by greats such as The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, Cave Story, Kingdom Hearts 2, and Super Mario Galaxy.

Terraria (2011)

Ah, Terraria... The “2D Minecraft”, the “Minecraft but not as good”, the “Starbound but not in space”.

Terraria, as you may know, is a 2D action-platformer sandbox. It’s a game that drops you into a large (but not unlimited) world and says “You’re gonna need to gear up, bucko.” So, you tear down some trees and dig up the land a bit in a bid to gather some resources. After all, this is a sandbox! It’s mine, mine~ Mine for the taking~ It’s mine, boys. Mine me that gold! *ahem* Seems I got a little carried away. Anyways...

Within the first few minutes, the sun starts to set on Terraria’s world and you’re being mauled apart by zombies. That is unless you built a house and hunkered down for the night to avoid the ghouls that intend to ruin your night. Seem familiar? Well, it should. And it’s why people drum up the comparisons above, flag it as just another sandbox game, and leave.

This, I believe, is not really a fair look at Terraria. Yes, you mine blocks. Yes, you fight monsters at night to survive. But that’s it. Those are the only substantial comparisons to be made. Terraria, as I described earlier, is an action-platformer. To me, Terraria’s sandbox nature and simplistic Minecraft-esque survival come secondary to what I consider to be the meat of the game. The exploration, the combat system, and the shenanigans.

Within the game are several set pieces to explore and countless bosses to fight. Players are expected to plunge headfirst into the rotting landscape of the Corruption (or the more eldritch and bloodied Crimson), delve into the skeleton-filled Dungeon, brave the perilous Jungle, and even venture into Hell itself. In exploring and slaying the many powerful foes that await the player, one can go beyond just “I swing my Iron Sword at a Zombie. Yaaaaaay... =_=“ and into extreme levels of zaniness. Wanna beat up Martians with a lightsaber? I don’t recommend it but you can. Wanna kill a giant robot worm of doom with a minigun? You bet your butt you can.

Minecraft (2009, 1.0 release in 2011)

To say Minecraft didn’t define the 2010s would be a blatant lie. As the #1 best-selling game, a spot hotly contested with Tetris, it’s hard to deny the influence and critical success of this simple voxel-based sandbox game.

What is it that makes Minecraft such a perfect and fantastic game? To me, it’s all in the simplicity of it all. The lack of goal, the blank slate of a world you’re given, and the openness and accessibility of the game. Minecraft expects you to take whatever inspiration and ideas you may have and construct them in this blocky world.

Wanna build a plane? Wanna build a sweet mansion? A bit too normal for you? How about a working computer? What about recreating settings from your favourite games? In Minecraft, you can do just that. And let’s not even forget about the enormous modding community this game has. Automation, adventure, aesthetic, graphical enhancements, quality of life. Mods have everything and more!

Above all else, Minecraft helps to connect. With its huge player base and countless public servers, you’re bound to find a community that will welcome you and treat you right. Minecraft is best played in multiplayer, in my honest opinion. Explore caves with friends, collaborating on build projects, or just plain old chatting and hanging with folks.

For me personally, Minecraft is an invaluable game. Through it, I met countless people, made many friends (several of which I consider my best friends), I even found love through it. Minecraft came to me at a time I needed it most. As a late teen, I was at one of the lowest points in my life. The game allowed me to express myself and work past what issues I had developed over the years. In finding friends and a way to express, Minecraft helped shape me into a much better person. Were it not for this game and the folks I met through it, I wouldn’t be the person I am today.

- theodore turner is the actual name. goes by todd since pretty much always. - born and raised in yorkshire, england. lived in driffield for a while with his parents, but they divorced when he was small. his dad quickly re-married to a nice woman from leeds who had a one year old daughter. - todd moved with his father to leeds where he went to school. still visited mom on weekends and just.. whenever he had the chance, really. - he was dragged along to the states at the age of thirteen. didn’t wanna go, as england is his city, but his mom was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (ms) and decided she wouldn’t be able to take care of him. so, rhode island it was. - there, his dad and step-mom started their business. they opened a hotel on some insurance money and became pretty rich p quick.  - todd didn’t find himself in america at all. in high school he kinda fell into the wrong circle of friends. started doing some heavy narcotics at a pretty young age. his habit continued for ten months before his step mom caught him and he was sent into a rehab of a sort. - after that, he was sober for a while!! - he graduated high school and went to uni in manhattan, majoring in computer science which meant he was now gonna live on his own. he started reaching for drugs once again. - at this point he’s basically p brain-fried. not stupid, but very much disconnected and doesn’t fully know what’s going on, ever. - struggles a lot with his feelings. goes between feeling nothing at all and then suddenly feeling all too much. however, he bottles it all up. hasn’t cried since he was like eighteen. convinces himself everything’s fine all the time. - can’t tell what’s real?? he’s in haze p much all the time, despite not necessarily being always high. think 2d from the gorillaz. - is in a band. they’ve got that kinda alt-j vibe going on. plays the keyboard. goes to music festivals a lot, has all these types of bracelets all over his wrists. - got a bunch of random, almost out of place tattoos.  - despite his genuinely confused and chill persona, he lowkey gets attached to ppl a lot !! someone’s nice to him? BAM he’ll make a mixtape !! because of this he’s had some troubles finding a girl-boy-friend-whatever-partner thing, ‘cause uh he kinda just starts writing them songs n poems and that usually . scares any possible love interest away ?? - quite book-smart which def helps him get by. - is actually working on graduating uni. works as a barista on the side, does gigs with his band pals and occasionally models.  - doesn’t really identify as anything. completely neutral, but goes by any pronoun.  - looks ill all the time. skinny child. gets frequent nosebleeds. - has almost overdosed twice. on what?? well the first time he was told it was mdma, but .. you never know. the second was a bad mixture of pills and alcohol, however not meant to be an attempt of any sort, just a thoughtless action rly.  - his step sister is now 17. they get along just fine. he talks her through boi troubles and she makes sure he doesn’t die on the way to the shop.  - is very much into human contact. all for cuddling with ppl, having someone play with his awkwardly long fingers, touch his hair, etc etc. also hooks up with people a L OT . enjoys the idea of being loved though doesn’t seem to quite get the concept ??  - very harmless. such a ragdoll. u can do with him whatever the heck u please basically. - is very good at getting himself into strange or dangerous situations simply bc he just goes with the flow a lot?? if u tell him to get into the car with that shady stranger behind target, he won’t even question it !!  - is renting an apartment with two lovely girls.  - not a bad housemate, but causes loads of inconveniences. lets the bath overflow bc he forgot and went for a walk. leaves the pot on the stove, starts almost fires. but HE MEANS WELL.  - wanders off on his own, a lot. like, sometimes he’ll just disappear and the next thing u know he’s having a ciggie under an oak tree while petting three cats at the same time.  - has been hanging around the factory quite a bit. def one of his new fav hang-out spots.

Since it seems @whatpumpkin is changing around a lot, and most of the key staff have left the company, I thought it’d be nice to pay tribute to Act 1. We’ll still see their work when act 2 is released, so it’ll be a bittersweet occasion. 

Here are the credits in full. 

Some notable names, let me know if I miss out anything important each person contributed:

@skullmandible was the head writer and director. He’s responsible for nearly every item combination you see in the game, including the goofy pigeon jokes. Cohen was the person who talked to us the most during Hiveswap’s development. This is really important, and I think his contribution to our fandom is deeply underrated. 

@guzusuru was the animation director, overseeing the contributions of all the animators and giving direction. Homestuck wise, you may remember her for her work on [s] Terezi: Remem8er, where she drew the young Scourge Sisters, and [s] Collide where she directed the animation yet again. Her most ambitious Homestuck work is probably animating the whole of Act 7. Angela’s famous homestuck fandom works include Lullaby to the Gods. She’s been with the fandom for a long time. I think her contribution runs deeper than I know.

@paperseverywhere was the lead animator. She made the intro to the game, and has drawn.... basically every character in act 1 and 2, lmao. Papers is a fandom veteran and very talented young animator contributing to Vriskagram, drawing the ghost terezi/vriska parts of Remem8er, drawing a bunch of panels for End of act 6 including the post-Collide shots, and storyboarding the Heir of Grief section for Collide. Papers also drew some Paradox Space comics, like Mother & Grub and Lalondian Tourism.  Needless to say, done a heck of a lot. 

@jamesroachmusic was the lead musician for the first two acts. He’s been working on Hiveswap since at least the shift to WhatPumpkin NYC, so James has seen a lot of shit go down. My favourite track from Act 1 would be Intermission, the ending theme which set in deep anticipation for the next act.  

His fellow musician Toby Fox needs no introduction

@shelbycragg and @poinko were cutscene animators for Hiveswap. Poinko/Phil Gibson wrote the Secret Sufferer comic for Paradox Space, among others, while Shelby is reknowned for being Calliope’s artist and the creator of Neokosmos. Shelby has been in this fandom for a VERY long time, and Poinko is a funny man who gives sassy replies to all his tumblr asks. I’m not entirely sure which animators made which cutscenes, but Poinko and Shelby at least contributed to the Pigeon scene, the flare scene, Xefros crashing a can against his head, and the ending cutscenes. 

@rah-bop, as well as @dammek, were background illustrators for Hiveswap. User Dammek has been working on the project since its kickstarter, drawing the majority of the concept art that ended up being reworked for the 2D project, and Dammek also drew the cute photos with the young ‘Guardians. Some of their notable works would be Paradox Space’s Night at the 100dseum and Vrisky Business.  rah-bop, meanwhile worked on Remem8er as a background artist who drew all the special effects of the sky falling. I’m sure they’ve done more before. Anyway, these two drew most of the epicly detailed backgrounds that you see in the back of Hiveswap. 

Shout out to Ash Paulsen, the Associate Producer who interviewed everybody during Act 1′s development. From what you said, it sounded like your work was pretty important.

I think that’s it for this post! It’s amazing what WP 2D have accomplished, and despite the odds being stacked against them Hiveswap has gone off to a good start. Best of luck to everybody who’s moving forward, and here’s hoping Act 2 blows us away.
