#harry is queer
Text
After all the shit that’s happened on twitter I decided to make this post. People would rather believe that their idol does stereotypically queer things so they can profit off their queer fans. Like? That’s a horrible thing to do. Queerness is not something you can shrug on and off for the sake of profits and popularity amongst a ceratin group. If we are going with the theory that Louis is straight I, a queer person would be highly irked by his behaviour. First off, Only The Brave is about queer love. Louis didn’t write it, so if Louis sat down, read the lyrics and said “I’m straight and can’t relate to any of these lyrics but tons of my fans are queer and I know they’ll eat this up so I’ll take it instaed of passing it to a queer artist who would have a personal connection to the song” That would be such a fucked up thing to do. Not to mention that the song has literally become a beacon of light for his queer fans and the venues become literal pride parades for the song. He literally did a shoot with polari. That is a language created by the queer comminuty so they could communicate with eachother without getting fucking arrested or killed by homophobes. I would find it highly inappropriate for a famous straight man to promote and profit off a brand founded on the struggles of the queer comminity without having any connection to the community or those struggles. Especially when there are so many artists who are queer who could understand those struggles. Also, Louis knows what Larry is, he knows what blue and green mean. He goes out on stage every show and sings a song with Larry in it. He gets the venues to light up in blue and green. He points at Larry signs. The only shirt he wore twice on tour was blue and green. If we think he does all these things on purpose but that Larry isn’t real, it means that he is misleading an entire part of his fandom for profit and popularity. Plus, the Larry fandom is made up, primarily of queer people. It would be absolutely shit of him to constantly bait his queer fans just so he can make more money. Because that is what he’s doing if Larry isn’t real. He’d be preying on his queer fans and making himself more marketable to them because he knows they make up a big chuck of his fandom. But do you know how fucked up that is? Pretending to be gay and queercoding just for money? Like it’s something that people aren’t killed, disowned, beat and abused for? Like being gay is some trendy thing that makes you seem hip and woke? People would really rather believe that Louis is doing all that than believe that he might be in a relationship with his ex bandmate. Because if I wasn’t dead set on the fact that Larry is real, I would actively despise Louis with a passion for misleading his queer fans and profiting off the queer aesthetic.
Same with Harry. If Harry is straight than all his queercoding and coming outs would means he’s literally just ‘playing gay for fun’. What is light’s up? What is She, medicine, fine line? LIke?? How do you explain those in a cis/het way? They’d rather think that he has to get drunk to think of his girlfriend and that when they have sex is the only time he knows her than the possibility that the “her” in question is a reference to his gender idenity. Same with She. It’s like the thought of Harry being anything but cis/het is an absoutle tragedy. They’d rather create a version of the story where Harry actively hurts queer people. And the whole Holivia thing. You really want Harry to be the kind of guy who sleeps with his boss while she’s in a relationship with a man who she has with two young kids with? She also just happens to be Harvey Weinstein's right hand man and she’s also ten years older and in a position of power over him and can impact his career in the industry. You really think Harry would do that? And if he did, you should be concerned. That is a recipe for a relationship built on manipulation and power. Why would anyone want that for Harry? Because it’s better than him being queer? Because it’s better than him being anything other than the cis/het fantasy you’ve been sold since the day he auditioned for the X factor. So when people say that Larry is fake and clearly they’re both straight I just want them to evaluate what that means for them. Because if they are straight and Larry has never been real, not only are they profiting off the queer aesthteic and their queer fans, they are causing harm to real queer people who can’t come out, who can’t be themselves because guess what? Being queer is still a sin and bad to so many people. Also, do you really wanna believe that Louis, a world famous singer was so irresponsible he got a one night stand pregnant? That’s the first rule in Hollywood! If you’re gonna have sex, use protection! And if you do get someone pregnant? GET A PAT TEST! Lord knows some people would use a baby just to get money and fame. Also, Louis has always kept his private life to himself. He would not all the sudden take his baby on walks so he can get photographed for publicity and relevancy. Like? You want to believe that Louis is the kind of day to expose his newborn to the paps just so he can get media attention? Or make so many Billie Jean references? Get his own sons birthday wrong? Let the media believe he’s a dead beat dad? Is that who you want to stan? A man who refuses to acknowledge his girlfriend of 10 years? A man who treats his girlfriend like a dog walker and trophy wife? I would not support a man like that.
So all of this is to say, which narrative paints Louis and Harry in a bad light? Which one makes them seem like queerbaiting homewreckers? The one where Larry isn’t real and where Louis isn’t a dad.
If there day ever comes where Larry is confirmed to be nothing but a wise tale, H and L will lose my support because of how much they interact with the fandom and continue to push Larry.

It's so fucking infuriating to me how much yall straight wash harry styles.
It infuriates me because he has consistently confirmed he is part of the community but doesn't wish to discuss that with the public and yall take it as a personal offense. Like his sexuality is public property or something.
I'm not a Harry fan, I don't like his music besides a few songs here and there and I could care less about Larry. But that man has made it VERY obvious he is queer and yall need to stop demanding something so personal from him or any male celebrity who is gender non-conforming and sexually fluid.
Please unlearn whatever homophobic biases you have that lead you to behave like this. It's fucking nasty colonizer behavior. Do better.

i keep seeing ppl talking about how theyre ugly sobbing over that shitty pirate show. do you not have shame to care more about a racist antiblack TV show glorifying slave owners, written by a zionist racist supporter of genocide. that you have more tears to shed for that blight on the human race than you do for the millions of palestinians going through horrors unimaginable. where's your ugly sobbing for them?

the whole argument that it's problematic for cishet men to wear GNC clothing is so bothersome to me. JUST SAY YOU DON'T LIKE HARRY STYLES LOL. Just say you find him vapid and pretentious and hollow. idc. He's a rich white pop star, he will be fine. Because it seems that is really what people mean when they talk about cishet men not being gender conforming. and start to make up stupid rules like "wearing skirts but holding hands with women in public is problematic." literally do you hear yourselves. you are directly hurting the same people you are trying to white knight here. It is not progressive in the slightest lol.

Whats so frusturating for me is that whenever I mention that I think harry is trans I get so many cis people telling me to stop assuming his gender, and that clearly he’s a man and it’s gross to think otherwise and I just want to scream at them. The only people who are pointing out that H is trans are other trans people because we know what it’s like. We recognize his actions in ourselves because we share something- navigating the world as a trans person. I look at photos of H wearing womens white skinny jeans while tucking with long hair and I think back to when I would wear two sports bras under a plain t-shirt with short hair in highschool. I see H experimenting with fashion and think about when I would steal my brother's clothes and dress more manly. I see the way H relates to femininity through artists and other musicians and I think about how much I related to the male protagonists in movies- how much I wanted to be them. I hear him singing about the complexities of gender in She and not knowing what’s happening but acknowledging it and craving it anyway. It’s hearing the struggle of having to choose a side in Fine Line but neither feeling right, telling yourself it’s a phase, that it’s just a sex thing, that the risk of getting answers is too much, finally realizing that you can exist without picking a side and still be alright, walking that fine line between two binary worlds. I see it when H’s friends call him queen, sis, she, and other feminine terms knowing that they know him best. It’s how H can change his facebook pronouns to he/him but keeps them as they/them, how he went out of his way to say english person instead of englishman- a well known phrase. It’s how he does little gender affirming things like painting his nails, wearing lipstick and jewelry. It’s how he’s said he doesn’t see what's masculine and what's feminine, that the line between them is blurred. It’s how he wore a dress on vogue knowing that it’s so much more than a fashion statement, but an act of defiance and rebellion against the gender binary. It’s how I see myself in him. I see the hesitancy that flourished into pride and acceptance. It’s knowing that he understands me and I understand him. It’s seeing another trans person find themselves and being so fucking happy for them because you know exactly how hard that journey is. H has found himself and I am genuinely so happy and proud of him. This is why I think he’s trans, because I see my journey in his art and I know so many other trans people see the same things- we’ve all experienced them, it’s the trans experience. No wonder cis people don’t see it. They don’t know what to look for, but we do, we’re not even looking, we're just observing and seeing and putting it together.

As he comes out to her, Adam explains to his mother that things are much better for gay people now, and his relationship with Harry, a northerner in his 20s, allows Haigh to explore the personal effects of those changes – and whether they have really gone as far as one might think. For instance, Harry identifies as queer, and when Adam says he uses the term gay, Harry tells him the word was a ubiquitous insult when he was at school: “Your haircut’s gay. Your schoolbag’s gay.”

With my recent Harry Potter posts gaining traction, I just want to make an important note:
You are not a bad person for having enjoyed Harry Potter. You are not a bad person for finding it hard to let go of something so ingrained into your life. You are not a bad person for enjoying the overall story of Harry Potter despite the bigotry JK Rowling managed to smatter into it.
Nobody should be telling you that you are. Your past relationship with Harry Potter is not the issue.
The issue is what you and we all do moving forward with the new information and facts that we know.
And the facts are that JK Rowling is a rampant and proud bigot who is hellbent on using the fortune Harry Potter made her to actively pursue the entire trans community with hostile intent.
And she does not care. She is happy that she is doing it. She is happy that people oppose her because it gives her an excuse to play victim and paint trans people who oppose her as violent, aggressive and evil.
This is not about how you engaged with Harry Potter in the past. Or even how you engage with it privately. This is about whether or not you choose to contribute toward her mission and towards the persecution of trans people right now.
Because when you buy that licensed merch in the store, she gets part of the profit. When you go to Harry Potter World, she gets part of the profit. When you buy the Harry Potter game, she gets part of the profit.
And all of those things result in three consequences:
It shows the marketing departments that Harry Potter is still a cashcow.
It shows JK Rowling that she can say and do whatever the hell she wants and nothing is going to stop that money rolling in.
She is given a steady cashflow which she uses to bankroll anti-trans movements and spokespeople and government petitions.
That is the reality of your choice from here on out. That is why people are asking you to set aside what you once had with Harry Potter and to stand with the people she has made it her life's mission to destroy.
You don't even have to let go of it completely. Just let go of the interactions that directly fund JK Rowling. Just cut off the cashflow she's using to ruin the lives of people she's never even met.
Buy fanmade merchandise or learn how to make your own. If you're cosplaying? Buy unofficial cosplays or buy second-hand off resale websites. Same with other merchandise.
If you want to watch Harry Potter, there are hundreds of non-licensed steaming websites showing it which do not contribute royalty income to JK Rowling.
If you're writing Harry Potter fanfiction, use a site like AO3 which will defend you tooth and claw if she gets desperate and starts coming after fan creators.
Harry Potter might be the comforting memories of your childhood, but JK Rowling is an active threat to the literal livelihood of trans people. People who could lose legal rights and protections simply because of one vicious woman with a bigoted agenda and deep pockets.
All we're asking is that you compare your reasons for enjoying Harry Potter with the facts of why you should make a few simple, easy choices to avoid bankrolling her and determine which is more important.
Or rather, which one should be more important.
And make the right choice.
