#manifesting bakugou on this week's chapter

Text
Bakugou was my warmup sketch today, manifesting Bakugou crumbs for this week's chapter! I also found a Baku at a game store my husband and I visited when coming into town yesterday! My Hubby is on a business trip and so I tagged along, and am using it as a little work week myself, but only for ART WORK.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel like he's with one of his Girl Besties from UA and he's trash talking some rando that she is dating. He is just a brutally honest bestie.

BNHA 365 Thoughts
Execution issues aside, I think this chapter shows that jumping onto rash, overly dramatic conclusions at the end of each (very short) chapter is counter-productive.
We can spend weeks arguing about Bakugou being a “jobber”, and then learn weeks later that his attack wasn’t reckless and stupid, but rather it did blaze that path he said he would.
Tumblr media
Even if it came in a different moment than what he originally planned.
Tumblr media
He rattled ShigAFO and the fused identities are starting to come apart at the seams.
The themes are also laid out. The Symbol of Victory is broken child, sacrificed for the sins and omissions of the past generation and there is no path to victory unless they heal and bring back that broken child who seems beyond hope. The pro-heroes have changed, because now their biggest ultimate moves are unleashed not to suppress the villain, but to save the child.
Of course, this triggers that beyond hope child in the trigger who asks the question why go so far for him, but not me? And it’s a valid question - I think Tomura / Tenko getting back more agency will unleash some of that rage. But it’s interesting that even though Tomura has been led to believe that all he was created for is destruction, right now the way his body adapts is creation.
Because even though his body can’t feel pain, the emotional pain of losing his family is still inside him and is searching for new pathways to manifest.
Tumblr media
I think Shigaraki will witness once again the tenacity of the heroes - the will to save that is a strength in itself. And the heroes, once they saved Bakugou, must understand that there is no perfect victory unless every child is saved.

Chapter 9: True Vision
~~~~~
“I have an idea,” you grinned evilly, exchanging glances with the UA students surrounding you inside Gym Gamma. “Let’s flip this training on its head, shall we?”
“Care to explain, Aya?” Todoroki asked, tilting his head in curiosity. Aizawa watched from afar, supervising the training with the eyes of a hawk. It had been two weeks since you stood up that guy near the parking garage, and you intended not to run into him again. During this time, training with Class 1-A had really grown on you. In addition to this, your power over your quirk had manifested in ways you could never imagine. Apparently, all you truly needed was the exposure you had been avoiding your whole life. Support from friends helped, too.
Full of excitement, you turned towards Bakugou, Kaminari and Kirishima, giving them a deadpan stare they couldn’t quite fully comprehend. You masked your eagerness behind another devious smirk. “Kaminari, give your jacket.”
The blonde raised an eyebrow. “Err…alright?” He removed the black coat and flung it at you. You caught it and began wrapping the item around your head, covering your eyes and inhibiting your vision entirely.
“Alright,” you smiled, hands on your hips, “Katsuki, come at me!”
Was using my first name really necessary?
Ugh.
With pleasure.
Die!
Bakugou lunged at you, resulting in you stepping to the side and dodging him with ease. He blasted into the wall, anger and frustration written all over his face.
“I want to see if any of you can hit me,” you said, twirling around to face the rest of the class. "If you can clear your mind enough, you should be able to."
Bakugou laughed, regaining his composure. "YOU SHOULD HAVE SAID THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE, YOU BRAT!"
I wonder if long distance is allowed.
"Long distance is allowed," you replied to the thought you had heard. "Good luck, everyone!"
Our TA is LITERALLY the coolest!
Alright, here goes nothing.
One after the other, the 1-A students launched themselves at you, shooting lightning bolts, blasting lasers, firing shards of ice, and hurling several other various attacks...but to no avail. You were too quick, registering thoughts early and listening patiently, filtering which thoughts indicated attacks and which did not.
That was until a surprise visitor entered the training facility.
Do you think this might have an effect on you?
In the middle of dodging Tsuyu Asui, you decided to respond. “I don't know. Why don't we—“
And then your body refused to move. Your mind went blank, a haze blanketing the world around you—which was currently dark because of the makeshift blindfold over your eyes. The coat was tugged off of your head and handed to Kaminari, revealing a young man with purple hair standing a couple feet in front of you. He punched you in the gut, causing you to fall backwards.
“Stand up,” the boy commanded, “I didn’t hit you that hard.”
You did as he told you, being released from your trance. The other UA students watched with eyes as wide as saucers.
“Aya, meet Shinsou Hitoshi,” Aizawa commented, coming into view. “He is a student in UA’s General Department from Class 1-C, and it appears his quirk—Brainwashing—works on the mind whether through verbal communication or internal thought. Thank you for indulging me.”
“Fascinating!” Momo Yaoyorozu gasped, running to Shinsou’s side. “So that’s why you brought him in! I was beginning to wonder.”
“Clever bastard,” Bakugou growled, making eye contact with his teacher.
Eraserhead glared at him in return. “Call me that again and I’ll be sending you to Nezu’s office.”
“Tch,” the spiky-haired blonde snarled. “Consider it a compliment, Teach!”
In the meantime, you were still trying to understand Shinsou’s quirk. He could tell, quickly jumping in and saving your brain from doing overtime. “Brainwashing is a sort of mind control power,” he explained to you. “I can only activate it when my target verbally responds to something I say to them—or so I thought. The power needs to be intentionally activated and it will not take effect if I don’t want it to.”
“Lucky,” you spat, a little annoyed you had been outsmarted. Despite feeling very violated by this kid, you reached out to shake his hand. “Surprised to hear you’re in General Studies of all departments.”
“For now,” Shinsou smirked, grabbing your hand and shaking it firmly.
“Although I think you ruined the assignment.”
“Huh?” Shinsou and the rest of the class stared at you blankly.
“None of you were able to successfully clear your minds, so you all—“ All of a sudden, you were kicked in the ribs and sent flying into Kirishima.
Izuku stood across the area from you, bright green electricity surrounding him. “Ha!” He cracked a smile. “I did it!” The raw power faded as Deku deactivated his quirk.
“Um,” Kirishima blinked awkwardly, looking up at you on top of him. “Aya?”
She’s so cute up close! What am I supposed to do here?!
“Sorry, Kirishima,” you carefully climbed off of the student, coughing and catching your breath.
“It’s not your fault, no worries,” Red Riot stood up, rubbing the back of his neck. “Though I must say, you’re turning into quite the badass!”
“Thanks,” you muttered, still trying to catch your breath.
“Oh my gosh, Aya! Are you alright?” Midoriya panicked, jogging towards you. You turned towards him, dusting yourself off.
“Good job, Izuku. I suppose I stand corrected. That quirk of yours packs one hell of a punch—or kick, rather. However, your speed alone and the fact that I was in the middle of a conversation may need to be factored in when analyzing the attack you landed. Then again, I didn’t hear any of your thoughts, which is quite the feat. Especially for you of all people.”
“What does that mean?” Midoriya asked innocently.
“Sometimes, Deku, you talk and mutter to yourself a lot,” Ochako Uraraka whispered to him, startling the teen. “At least I think that’s what she means.”
“Well, my brain tends to turn off when I do that,” Deku beamed at her. “So that’s exactly what I was doing over in the corner while nobody was looking!”
Tokoyami and Todoroki exchanged glances, trying to hold in laughter after hearing Midoriya admit his strategy to Uraraka.
That’s when Aizawa stepped between you and the rest of Class 1-A. “Okay Class, I think that’s enough for today, seeing as Midoriya got a little too intense. You are dismissed to your dorms. Have a good afternoon.”
“I think I’ll be seeing Recovery Girl,” you chuckled.
Later that evening, you joined some of the Class 1-A students in their dormitory.
The group chatted over some tea and snacks, almost constantly cracking jokes and teasing one another. Glancing over your shoulder, you noticed a very anxious Yuga Aoyama. You leaned over to Midoriya and whispered, “What’s up with Aoyama? He seems a little too nervous around me.”
Very carefully, Deku peered over at his flamboyant classmate located across the room. Aoyama was leaning against a wall in the hallway, twiddling his thumbs and keeping his distance. Midoriya shrugged and suggested, “Maybe walk over in that direction and I’ll help survey what he does?”
You nodded—it wasn’t Midoriya’s worst idea. If you could just get within Mindscape’s ten meter range, you’d be able to read Aoyama’s mind. If he were to move away from you, it would become clear if he was intentionally avoiding you or not. You got up from the couch and circled around it, heading in Aoyama’s direction. The boy noticed right away, appearing worried for a brief moment and then turning and disappearing down the hallway. You froze in your tracks, surprised by how quickly he reacted.
Something was definitely up.
You spun around, bonking foreheads with Bakugou.
Great. Juuuust great.
"Watch it, new girl!" Bakugou warned you, standing almost shoulder to shoulder with Kirishima. “I thought you would never let anybody sneak up on you.”
"You didn't sneak up on me," you corrected him. “You just weren't paying attention. You bumped into me, not the other way around."
"Tch. That's not how I see it, Little Miss Try Hard!" He was about to poke you in the head—right where he’d bumped it—but thanks to your quirk, you saw it coming and caught him by the wrist. The two of you locked eyes, Kirishima watching intently.
“You know, sometimes I wish I could go back and get the proper Bakugou greeting upon arriving at this school.”
”What are you talking about?”
”You know, like telling me to swan dive off the roof of a building or something.” You yourself didn’t realize it, but you were subconsciously trying to teach young Bakugou here a lesson. After hearing your comment, Midoriya ran to the scene in hopes of deescalating things.
“Some hero you are,” Bakugou sneered, ripping his arm away from you.
“I’m not a hero, and I don’t want to be one.”
“Then what the hell are you doing here?”
“You’re one to talk! You’re the most repugnant asshole at this school. No one would want you to save them!” Meanwhile, Bakugou’s thoughts began to stand out, growing louder and louder with each passing second.
Don't think about it, don't think about it, don't—
Her…
—Shit!
I can’t stand this!
What’s going on with me?
My heart’s pounding!
"Wait a minute," you narrowed your eyes at the blonde, taking a step back and placing both hands on your hips. "Don't think about what, Bakugou?”
"Hey!" Kirishima jumped in, interrupting the two of you. "Is it getting hot in here? I think you two should just hug it out and go your separate ways, don't you agree? Here, let me help, we can group hug—"
"Shut the hell up, bastard!" Bakugou barked at his friend.
"No way," you smirked sadistically. "You can’t be serious. Does someone have a little crush on the teacher's assistant? Is that what's going on here, Sludge Boy?” Bakugou nearly tackled you to the ground in a fit of rage—if it weren't for Kirishima holding him back, that is.
Wow, you were getting bold.
Matter of fact, it wasn’t at all like you to act this way.
"Ah, it's so fun to mess with you now that my quirk is cooperating with me," you grinned eerily. “It’s too easy.”
"He was just taking me up on my offer and trying to give you a hug," Kirishima chuckled awkwardly, continuing to restrain his classmate.
"I was not, Shitty Hair!" Bakugou argued, rolling around on the floor with Kirishima.
Tenya Iida approached you from behind, pushing you aside to give the two boys a firm scolding. "Everybody calm down," the Class President instructed, waving his arms around. "It's getting late, so we should all probably get some rest before tomorrow arrives. We have a busy week ahead of us, and we don't need to deal with anymore of your antics, Bakugou!"
“But it wasn’t me!” Bakugou insisted, appearing genuine for a brief moment.
Maybe he was right?
Deku grabbed you by the hand and yanked you toward him. “What was that about?” he asked, sincerity in his eyes.
You sighed. “I don’t know. Something came over me and I just—“
“How do you know about what he told me in middle school, Aya?”
You stared at the floor. “I don’t know.”
“Aya,” Midoriya snapped, his eyes flashing a vivid green for a moment.
“I…m-may have overheard it once. You were replaying it in your head and…I need to be honest. I don’t really know the context but I just honed in on—“
Then Midoriya wrapped his arms around you, giving you a hug. “Hey,” he said in your ear, “I’m doing fine now. I’ve forgiven Kacchan.” He pulled away. “Now, no more fighting with him. This is the third time in the last two weeks.”
You took a deep breath. “Izuku,” you said in a whisper, exhaling slowly.
“Yes?”
“I know about your quirk, too. One For All…?”
Izuku froze for a good thirty seconds before saying, “I need to make a phone call.” Then he turned and darted outside, cell phone in hand.
You stood there for a moment. “That…was the first time anyone’s hugged me in years,” you mumbled to yourself.
“Aya,” a voice said from behind you. You knew it was Kirishima, yet still decided to act surprised.
“Oh, hey Kiri,” you said, giving him a friendly wave. “What’s going on?”
“I need to make a confession.”
The thoughts she heard earlier were mine, not Bakugou’s.
I’m the one who’s “crushing on the teacher’s assistant.”
Have been for a bit.
Oh. Now you legitimately felt bad about how you treated Bakugou.
“Actually, you don’t have to tell me anything,” you replied, smiling after hearing his internal monologue. “At least not out loud.”
“Oh,” he giggled hesitantly. “Right…”
“It’s just…I’m not in a good place right now,” you explained apprehensively. “The problem is, I’m a little too unpredictable for any kind of relationship right now. I’m finally getting the chance to explore my quirk, and some really weird things are happening to me. I just don’t feel like myself sometimes.”
“How about a friendship?” he asked, breaking a brief moment of silence.
You laughed a bit. “We already are friends, Kirishima.”
“Just making sure,” the redhead beamed, showing off his jagged teeth. “Let me know if you ever want advice on hand-to-hand combat or being a quirk-user. You could probably use that kind of training. I’m off to bed.”
“Thank you, Kiri. Oh—and can you apologize to Bakugou for me?”
“I guarantee he would appreciate it  a lot more coming from you. Have a good night, girlie.” And with that, Kirishima wandered off.
Finally, after several minutes of waiting, Deku re-entered the dormitory. “Izuku!” you called out, approaching him. “Who were you on the phone with?“
“Believe it or not, I was on the phone with All Might,” he replied, putting his phone back in his pocket. “Walk with me?”
So excited!
Time for some fun!
“Sure…happy to walk.” You raised an eyebrow. “But what’s so ‘exciting’ about a walk?”
“Oh, uh—well, evening walks in particular. The fresh air, the breeze, the night sky. Y’know.”
“I guess that’s true.” You followed Midoriya outside, walking alongside him like a little puppy. You figured he would be more concerned with what you had said to him about One For All, but it didn’t seem to be on his mind whatsoever. “So…penny for your thoughts, Deku?”
Right at that moment, you were kicked square in the back and launched onto the ground. A foot landed on your spine, trapping you underneath it.
“I can’t believe you stood me up!” the voice above you snickered, a pit forming in your stomach. “And here I thought we could be friends.”
You managed to make eye contact with Midoriya, pleading for any form of help. However, he just stood there staring down at you.
Sweet Izuku’s still on the phone, Aya.
I’d much rather be chatting with him, but I want to get a good grade on my assignment!
Deku’s face and body started melting away to reveal someone you knew all too well: Villain Himiko Toga. You were well educated on Villains, partially because of your time spent at UA, but also because of the thoughts and murmurs you’d hear on a daily basis growing up in the city.
What caught you off guard the most was the boy who had you immobilized. This was the same guy from a couple weeks ago who had cornered you on the streets. He held a knife to your neck and started whispering in your ear.
“Since you refuse to ask, I’ll tell you point-blank,” he said quietly, tickling your ear. “Call me Doppelgänger.” He gestured upward with the knife. “And I’m sure you know Toga.”
“Pleased to meet you!” Toga curtsied, proceeding to lay on her stomach in front of you. “Whoa, your eyes are gorgeous, they kinda remind me of my own!”
“Don’t get lost in them, Toga,” Doppelgänger snapped. “We should probably get her back to the rest of the League. We have things to do.”
“Seriously,” another voice interjected itself, a flash of blue light illuminating the area. “Hurry your asses up before I burn all of you to ash.”
Chapter Seven
All Might(thinking): I was worried about you for a second… but that was superb, my boy! He still can’t adjust the power output! Yet he also can’t afford to cripple himself. So he waited until the very last second and focused one for all at the end of his fingertips. He used it for the shortest time possible at the last possible moment! You know what kid?
Izuku: I… I can still move!
All Might(thinking): You’re actually pretty cool right now!
Ochako: You finally got a record suitable for a hero!
Tenya: Your fingers are swollen… reminds me of the entrance exam incident… what an odd quirk.
Yuuga: It’s not stylish enough.
[Bakugou is shown to be shocked]
Katsuki(thinking): What the fuck…! A quirk manifest by age four at the latest! It’s impossible… and yet…! He said he’d won it!
Katsuki: What is this, Deku!? Explain it now, Shitrag!
[Izuku, scared shitless]
[Aizawa stops Bakugou with his capture weapon]
Katsuki: Guh-hh, what is this cloth? I can’t…!
Shouta: It’s my special “capturing weapon”, a steel wire alloy woven with carbon nanofibers. Jeez, don’t make me use my quirk so much. I got serious dry eye, damnit!
Class 1-A(thinking): His quirk is amazing, but it seems a waste on a guy with dry eye!
Narrator: Aizawa Shouta. He can “erase” the quirk of anyone he looks at! When he blinks the effect turns off!
Shouta: We’re wasting time, prepare for the next trial.
Ochako: Is your finger alright?
Izuku: Y-yeah.
[Bakugou clicks his tongue]
[Bakugou starts thinking about past memories with Izuku]
Katsuki(thinking): Up until just now… you were just another pebble on the road.
[Katsuki cues a dramatic flashback of when they were kids]
Izuku(4): I’m jealous, your quirk is such a cool one, Kacchan! I hope mine comes in soon too!
Katsuki(4): I told you! No matter what kind of quirk you get, Deku, it’ll never measure up to mine!
[Back to the present]
Katsuki(thinking): He shoulda been nothing more than a pebble in my path!
Izuku(thinking): I couldn’t get any oter records of notes while battling the pain and then all 8 trials came to a close.
Shouta: time to present the results.
Izuku(thinking): If my total is the lowest, I’ll get expelled…! Did anybody else get such low scores…
Izuku(thinking): The only real record I managed to excel at was the ball pitch.
Shouta: The total is imply the aggregate sum of each of your scores. IF I recited all your scores it’ld take a million years, so I’ll diclose them all at once.
Izuku(thinking): I did miserably at every other trial! I did especially horrible at the endurance run since I could barely stand the pain! If I’m expelled…
Shouta: Oh yeah, that whole “expulsion” thing… that was a lie.
[Aizawa gives a shit-eating grin]
Shouta: It was a logical ruse to pull out your best performances.
Class 1-A(aside from Momo and Shouto): Whaaattt!?
Momo: C’mon guys, use your brains! Of course, it was just a ruse!
Shouta: and… right. Yep, with that, it’s over. Your curriculum sheets are back in the classroom so give them a once-over. And Midoriya…
[Aizawa hands him a note]
Shouta: Go see Recovery Girl and get yourself patched up. Since your eyeballs will doubtlessly pop out at tomorrow's absurd ordeal.
Izuku(Thinking): Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I’m safe, but there’s still too much I can’t do.
[Scoreboard order as followed: Yaoyorozu Momo, Todoroki Shouto, Bakugou Katsuki, Iida Tenya, Tokoyami Fumikage, Shouji Mezou, Ojiro Mashirao, Kirishima Eijirou, Ashido Mina, Uraraka Ochako, Kouda Kouji, Sato Rikidou, Asui Tsuyu, Aoyama Yuuga, Sero Hanta, Kaminari Denki, Jirou Kyoka, Hagakure Tooru, Mineta Minrou, and Midoriya Izuku]
Izuku(thinking): Last place isn’t exactly a promising start. From here on, I’ll study my ass off! So I can reach my dream!
All Might: Aizawa, you liar!
Shouta: Oh, it’s All Might. So you were watching, I take it? You must be free, then.
All Might: A logical ruse? April Fools was a week ago! You expelled an entire new class of first-years last year! You kick kids out without a moment’s hesitation if you judge them as having “zero chances”. This is a total 180 from what you used to always say! Could it be because… you felt it too, right!? Young Midoriya’s raw potential?
Shouta: You too? So you have his back, right? Normally, that’ be against your teaching style.
[All Might is too stunned to speak]
Shouta: His chances are above the “zero” mark. That’s all. I can kick out anyone whose chances drop below that mark at any time. It’s not a cruel thing to end the half-assed chasing of a dream.
All Might(thinking): So that's your brand of kindness, is it, Aizawa? However…
ALl Might(to himself): Just as I thought… we’ll never get along.
[END OF FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL]
Izuku: I’m pooped.
Tenya: Is your finger healed?
Izuku: Ah! Oh! Hey, Iida. Yeah, Recovery Girl saw to that…
[Flash back]
[Kissing noise]
Izuku: Wow! Amazing… it’s really healed! But… suddenly… I feel so tired…
[A note appears saying he fainted last time Recovery Girl healed him. So he doesn’t remember being healed the first time]
Recovery Girl: All my quirk does is magnify your own body’s regeneration process. In order to heal, you need to use up some of your own strength. If you keep getting injured and use too much of your body’s strength to regenerate, you’ll just end up dying anyway, so be careful.
Izuku: I’ll die anyways!?
[Flashback ends]
Izuku(thinking): I can’t go on like this, getting rescued all te time… I’ve gotta learn to adjust it, and quickly!
Tenya: I have to save, Aizawa-sensei really got me! I’d actually thought “So this is what the highest academia is like!” Now I see how a teacher can encourage through deception.
Izuku(thinking): Before, I saw Iida as scary. But he’s just a really honest, diligent guy!
Ochako: Hey there! Hey, you two! You headed towards the station? Wait for me!
Izuku(thinking): It’s Uraraka!
Tenya: You’re that “infinity girl”!
Izuku(thinking): infinity girl?
Ochako: Hi, I’m Uraraka Ochako! You’re, uhh, Iida Tenya, and if I’m not mistaken, Midoriya Deku!
Izuku: Deku!?
Ochako: Eh? Wasn’t that what that Bakugou kid called you?
Izuku: Erm, actually, my name is “Izuku”, “Deku” is just what Kacchan calls me to demean me.
Tenya: Oh, so it’s an insult?
Ochako: Ehhh, for real!? Sorry!
Ochako: But you know, I kinda like the name “Deku” for you! It gives me a sorta “I never give up” vibe, you know!?
Izuku(red faced): Hi! I’m Deku!
Tenya: Midoriya?!
Izuku(thinking): I may not have a lot going on for me at this moment, but like she said: I can’t give up.
Tenya: Don’t be so weak-willed! It’s an insult, remember? It’s just like when Copernicus flipped the paradigm…
Ochako: Coperni… huh?
Izuku(thinking): But you know something, All Might?
[Izuku thinks back to people laughing at him]
Izuku(thinking): I’m ecstatic just to have gotten far enough to make some real friends!
[cue to Small Might at UA]
Small Might: Sorry, my boy, but we haven’t got any time to relax… the real test starts tomorrow…
[We see the daily lives of UA students trying to get ppl to join clubs, present mic teaching English. We find out UA is required to teach normal lessons to all students.]
[At noon the kids have lunch]
[In afternoon students do their specialised classes]
All Might: It’s me!
Izuku: You came!
All Might: Coming through the door like a normal person!
Denki: I can’t believe it! All might’s really gonna be teaching us!
Eijirou: That design’s so silver age! That art style clashes so much! It’s giving me goosebumps.
All Might: Foundational hero studies! For this class, we’ll be building up your hero foundation through various of trials!
All might: Let’s jump in with this! The trial battles!
[Bakugou is grinning while Izuku looks confused]
Katsuki: The trial…
Izuku: Of battle!
[All Might stands on the side of the class where he presses a button and the children's hero gear comes out]
All Might: and to go with your first battle… we’ve prepared the gear we had you send in a request for to match your quirks!
Class 1-A: Our battle gear! Awesome!
[Izuku hugging his bag]
Izuku: My costume…
All Might: Go get changed and we’ll be ready to go! Everyone, gather at Grounds Beta! The garb you bring into the battlefield is vitally important, boys and girls! And don’t forget, from here on out, you’re all officially, heroes!
Izuku(running in an empty tunnel): Hey! Wait for me!
All Might: All right! Let’s see what you’re made of, you embryos!
The 1-A girls are having an end of week slumber party and Kouda's pet rabbit, Yuki, has been invited! Kouda is sure Yuki will have plenty of fun with the girls, and he trusts them wholeheartedly to take care of Yuki and bring him back in time for his vet appointment the next day.
There is just one major oversight that the girls failed to account for: The manifestation of cuteness, Yuki, has no intention of going to the damn vet.
Now, with only a few hours until Kouda leaves for the vet, the girls are desperate to hunt down the fluffy escape artist and keep Kouda in the dark about the panicked operation. With varying levels of help from their classmates, can they really catch Yuki without Kouda knowing?
Or, Kouda's rabbit makes a run for it with class 1-A hot on his little bunny heels.
BNHA Chapter 285: I’m Not Ready to Say Goodbye
mysterylover123
Yesterday: “I’ll go on Tumblr for just a minute. Surely no spoilers have leaked yet”. Instantly learns: “HEADLINE: INTERNET HAS GONE CRAZY DUE TO BAKUGOU PRETTY MUCH DYING”.
never go on tumblr on thursdays
Tumblr media
Honey I was wondering about this. So unless Deku manifests a healing/regeneration quirk right the Ff now we’re gonna have to start looking into some robot arms.
Tumblr media
Don’t you dare get my hopes up Shiggy. I saw those leaks I know how this ends.
Tumblr media
sobs
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You’re making your boyfriend worry so much Deku.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quick, time for some TD/BK to distract me from my emminent feels!!
Tumblr media
YAS I KNEW YOU WOULDN’T LEAVE TDDK OUT OF THIS! THE OT3 IS COMPLETE. (and apparently about to become an OT2 sobbbbbbssssss)
Tumblr media
HE SAID THAT CAUSE HE WAS WORRIED ABOUT DEKU OH. MY. GOD. Litereally everything Bakugou has ever done is now legitimately interpretable through a “cares about Deku” lens.
Tumblr media
MORE BB BKDK SOB HORI WHAT’RE YOU DOING TO ME
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Guess who just rewatched season 1 guess who’s drowning in BKDK feels you got it me
Tumblr media
I’m sure this’ll work. Hey Endeav remember the last time you used this attack on a regenerating League of Villains baddie? Remember what he did to you IMMEDIATELY AFTER that looks remarkably similar to those leak images?!
Tumblr media
is Tomura actually getting possessed by the Ghost of AFO or something?
Tumblr media
Shoto’s gon lose his dad and his boyfriends in one day dammit our 1/2 and 1/2 boy doesn’t deserve this mus protecc shoto he deserves the world
Tumblr media
IKR? That’s what we’re all thinking!
Tumblr media
shit shit crap here it comes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SAD BKDK MONTAGE TO MAKE THE MOMENT HURT AS MUCH AS FUCKING POSSIBLE BECAUSE OF COURSE KACCHAN’S LAST THOUGHTS WILL BE OF DEKU AND MY OTP NEEDS THEIR SWANSONG DAMMIT IS THIS THE LAST RIDE?!
Tumblr media
I think this image has burrowed its way into my psyche and will never leave until I either reach the series’ final chapter and see Katsuki getting a happy ending or know for sure if this is the last time we’ll ever see him next week. please oh please oh please oh please don’t be dead
I know a lot of people are being like “chill, he’s not dead, he’s a shonen character”. But I also know that this series is known for subverting shonen tropes. Hori doesn’t do things by the books and doesn’t like to be predictable. If he wants to kill Kacchan then Kacchan’s dead, that’s all there is to it. I don’t want this to be the end. But until next week...well, even beyond that, there’s no way to know for sure. If this is where Bakugou (And BK/DK)’s story ends...well, I can’t say it isn’t poetic and moving. To have Bakugou decide to sacrifice his life for Izuku, it’s pretty much the ultimate expression of both love and character development.  It would hurt like hell but if it is, I’ll just have to deal with it. If it is, Deku is about to lose his shit so badly there won’t be enough of Shigaraki left to scoop up with a teaspoon.
 If it’s not, then this moment marks an unbelievable growth for our hero. I haven’t failed to notice that the title is “Rising”, which is likely an allusion to both Movie #2 and Yaoyorozu Rising, volume 8. The latter is really interesting to me, since that was Momo’s biggest moment of character journey in the early part of the series, and Baku is channelling her a bit here, taking over as the commander (makes those TDMM/BKDK parallells even stronger too). If Baku does live, with his quirk gone maybe, this will change things for the Wonder duo. Baku has decided to do saving, and saving Deku. I worry that him losing his quirk would drive Deku pretty far over the edge as well. And maybe have him offer to share OFA with him like in HR. And I’m not sure how this new dynamic would play going forward, though it would also be pretty poetic.
Either way I’m drowning in feels and I can’t write anymore and I need to go pretend my heart’s not broken into pieces and wait in agony for next friday. Never go on tumblr on thursdays, people. Just don’t do it.
🎀Oyavaski's BakuDeku Fic Masterlist🎀
Under the cut are some of my all time favorite BakuDeku fics I've ever come across on A03. They range in ratings from Teen to Mature to Explicit. The majority will be Explicit because I prefer more adult themes over toothrotting fluff (mostly for the miscommunication and drama that spurs from intimate romances lol) So be sure to pay attention to ratings before considering clicking the links 😏👌
Not Rated:
Burn, Pine, Perish by Kindaopps
"Three things dawned on Izuku, as he stared at the slick flower petals scattered over the black words of his book: he has fallen in love with his husband, his husband did not love him back, and he is going to die." <- Izuku is a fae cursed from birth, never to fall in love lest his love go unrequited. Hanahaki Disease trope done very well.
Teen Rating:
Solar by Kindaopps
"Here he is, a God, wanting a mortal." <- Sun God Katsuki falls madly in love with a human man named Izuku Midoriya. One of my newest favorites
__
I Still Do by RaeRyn
"He's losing him to pieces, but Izuku still tries to make them count. In which a battle leaves Katsuki with Amnesia, and Izuku finds himself picking up the pieces." <- perfect summary description. Heart breaking dialogue exchanges and concept. One of my treasured fics.
__
Many Sunflowers Later by Jeka
"Scholar Midoriya Izuku comes back to the person he left behind after his journey through the kingdom, the mighty dragon clan leader Bakugou Katsuki." <- A super precious and unique take on the Fantasy AU. It's a short one, but I guarantee it'll warm your soul like homemade stew on a frigid winter morning.
__
The Way You Used To Do by Edema_Ruh
"During a battle, Midoriya gets hit by a villain whose quirk detaches his soul from his body. Stuck in a ghost-like state, the boy enters a race against time in order to save himself from permanently dying. Much to his luck - or lack of it -, the only person who can see and talk to him in this state is no one other than Kacchan. Alternatively: Deku and Kacchan are Soul Bound." <- quite possibly the most popular and well written/nearly perfect canon characterization BakuDeku fic currently out there. Very worth the read, and enough insanely detailed chapters to keep you reading for a week or more lol.
____
Mature Rating:
The Night We Met by Majjale
" "You a poet?" "Only for you." Two sincere wishes and the ramifications of them."<- part one of the Dead Poets series. A simple summary for a Deeply Painful fic that will Hurt You until it doesn't. I've reread this, and it's epilogue fic, over a dozen times now. It's seriously so beautifully written.
__
Take Me Back by Majjale
"A soft epilogue." <- epilogue to The Night We Met, and part two of Dead Poets. A fitting end for our heros after the events in the first part of Dead Poets. Made me cry like a babybackbitch.
__
Imperial Retrograde by Mynameis152
"Raised on a continent at the brink of war, Katsuki and Izuku's sides were chosen the day they were born. But now, as Katsuki's birth right is stripped of him and handed to a foreign prisoner, as Izuku's stolen from his home in the dead of night to fight for an enemy nation because he was at the wrong place at the wrong time, the two are forced to find common ground with each other, and end a war heading towards total annihilation."<- A wonderful Fantasy AU fic set in a universe/kingdom where harboring a dragon is punishable by death. And our poor Izuku just so happened to accidentally hatch a dragon he didn't intend to find!
__
I Feel You by Soulstring
" "I don't always take questionable substances from strangers but when I do I end up getting a second hand boner from my childhood friend's feelings" - Midoriya Izuku, most likely."<- Izuku meets a girl with an empathy quirk that manifests in the form of a goo that she bottles and offers it to him as a gift for rescuing her from a kidnapper. Izuku becomes addicted to the goo because of the intense feelings it gives him, and Katsuki has a few issues with that.
____
Explicit Rating:
On The Run by Justaperson1718
"(Based in an AU where All Might loses to All For One) Follow Izuku and Katsuki as they fight together for their very survival and mature through their experiences with each other, on the run together from the League of Villains with no one to depend on but each other. The two will have to work out their differences if they want to continue to live and escape the villains."<- summary explains it pretty well. Haven't read this in quite a while so I don't have much to elaborate on.
Fire In The Mountains/Fire In The Blood by EllaBesmirched(El_Bell)
" “I’ll do it.”
Enji finally turned around and fixed Shouto with an expression so scathing, Shouto had to fight to keep his chin raised. “You’ll marry the Barbarian King.”
Shouto blinked. “Yes.” " <- A polycule masterpiece. I've reread this series no-less than 12 times by now. Incredibly detailed, insanely well written and fleshed out characters. Polygamous relationships and multiple pairings throughout. Main pairs are TodoBaku/TodoBakuDeku/BakuDenkiMinaKiriTodoDeku. It's honestly fantastic, I highly recommend it.
Kacchan by KyuukaKoinu
"Sometimes it’s about winning an argument. Other times it’s about acknowledging your feelings. And in rare cases, it’s about trying to make sense about your ex-childhood friend making out with you in your mother’s kitchen when he swears that he hates your guts. But most of the time, it’s about growing up and understanding what makes the difference between a boy and a man. Both Katsuki and Izuku are finding this out, and they are figuring it out in the hardest way."<- OK so, I can totally look past the almost word-for-word plagiarism of the summary for Boys by CaseyV (the greatest SoRiku fanfic ever fucking made, thank you) because this story was really fucking good. And the character development and progression throughout the plot is fluid and doesn't feel forced at any point. Katsuki coming to accept his sexuality and love for Izuku, Izuku being bullied by his peers for his obvious affection for Footballplayer!Katsuki, and all the drama that lies throughout between two boys learning to accept their feelings and an older man Izuku seeks comfort in from his issues with Katsuki.
Vicious by feelslikefire
"Midoriya and Bakugou wind up in the very last position either of them thought they'd be in: Hero Partners. It's not fun, but they learn to cope. Their first big assignment together takes them undercover to infiltrate a cult, but the situation turns out far more sinister than they first thought. (Or: Midoriya and Bakugou pretend to be Fake Married, join a cult, start having sex, and learn not to suck as partners, not necessarily in that order.)"<- where do I even BEGIN??? This fic has. It. All. Fake marriages, Fake relationships, an insane scary ass cult, hardcore bondage sex, friends with benefits, an insanely well thought out plot that will keep you hooked. Seriously worth the read. I've reread it multiple times and I'll probably reread it again soon once my glasses are repaired lol.
Play The Field by Lalazee
"Baseball and feelings, feelings and baseball. Turns out, Bakugou and Deku are both good and bad at the same things. They try to work on it"<- in which Izuku and Katsuki were aiming to go pro in Baseball, until Izuku's good arm is mangled in a serious accident that creates a crevasse between himself and his relationship with Katsuki. Been a while since I've read this one, but anything by Lalazee is worth the read!!
Blood Moon by Lalazee
"The Thank-Fuck-We-Aren’t-Dead Sex had started then, and had never really stopped. Then came the feelings and the fights. The ego, the pride, the jealousy. And then there was Us (The one-shot smut fic that turned into an entire world for you.)"<- the very first BakuDeku fic I ever read, and an AMAZING way to start. The horny dial is sex to MAXIMUM. (OK so I made an error here, but I think "horny dial is SEX to MAXIMUM is better kept than fixed so fuck it LOOOL)
So there we have it!!! I spent a good hour or so jotting all this down. So I hope ya'll see a few you haven't read yet and give them a shot!
Please like/reblog if you find anything you end up liking so others can take a look themselves 🥰
It’s Tuesday!! So that means,
Bnha 306 possibilities:
I just wanna add that there are a lot of situations that could branch from those possibilities. So I’m going to break down the possibilities with those situations!!
Deku wakes up
If Deku wakes up:
he asks for Kacchan & potential Bkdk reunion (manifesting 🙏)
Hopefully we see Inko.. maybe Hisashi?
All Might and Deku have a conversation
Hawks and BJ enter Dekus room
Deku + Class 1A reunion (I can’t really imagine AM letting them in so soon though)
Deku doesn’t wake up
If Deku doesn’t wake up:
more information about the 2nd and 3rd users
The third user potentially starting to try and cooperate with Izuku
Start making plans for the next AFO/Shiggy encounter and what to do in that case scenario
The users giving Deku some sort of solution for his broken limbs?? (Once again, not too confident ab this one)
I don’t have too much to say about this, I feel like if we see Deku not awake yet it’ll likely only be for half the chapter
Scene changes to the villains
If the scene changes to the villains then:
See how Shigaraki is doing
Potential Shiggy and AFO argument
Shiggy learning about Twices death
Shiggy reflecting on Nana and his family and potentially growing more angry
Seeing how the people form the prisons are and if the ones from Tartarus have anything against Deku (the answer is probably yes)
Seeing Toga and getting to know whether she has found the League or if she’s off on her own
Scene changes to Bakugou
If the scene changes to Bakugou:
Him still struggling to try and get to Dekus room
A potential TdBk talk about everything that happened on the battlefield
Todoroki asking what OFA is and why the villains were after Izuku (Bakugou likely won’t answer, but possibly could)
Bakugou potentially telling Todoroki about his past with Deku and how he is super worried for him
TdBk being the absolute best because I love them 🥺❤️
Hmm.. I think that’s all I have!! Definitely a lot more than last week!! A reminder that these are possibilities. None of this is guaranteed to happen and I do believe some more than others. Lots of these are just spitballs of possibilities <33
Life Within a Tarot Deck
Chapter 1: The Sun Has Lost His Shine
Midoriya Izuku was devastated.
Today has been the worst day of his middle school career and it weighed heavily on his mind. First, his mother yelled at him that he would need to find a job as she would not support him going to high school. She only tolerated him in hopes he does get his Quirk, but 12 years is the cap in late manifestation. He is now 14.
The second was he received a beatdown in physical education from other people so they can have their training. That probably enraged his mom further, medical bills piling up because of burns and broken bones.
Then when he raised his hand that he applied to UA still in hopes of becoming a hero the entire class laughed at him for his stupidity, causing his childhood friend to yell at him after class, destroy one of his notebooks, and even tell him to jump off a building hoping that he would get a Quirk in his next life. He knew he didn’t mean it but it still hurts.
The icing on the cake? He was saved by his idol All Might from a sludge villain and when he asked an innocent question if he could still become a hero without a Quirk, the Hero shut him down, hard.
“You cannot be a Hero without a Quirk, that is nothing but instant death.”
Instant death…
I am not supporting my Quirkless son anymore! If you want to go to UA, get a job!
You are so pathetic, Deku. If you want to have a Quirk so bad, take a swan dive off a building and wish for one in your next life!
“Maybe dying wouldn’t be so bad.” Midoriya said quietly. He had reached his limit, and he had no support. He even thinks that Bakugou also despised him, if the increased aggression towards the greenette even says anything.
I am nothing but a burden…to everybody.
“Looks like you will get your wish, Kacchan.”
Something wasn’t right, dammit.
Bakugou was kicking empty bottles in front of him along an alleyway with two of his classmates, hoping for some fun. However, his mind was preoccupied with a green-haired nerd.
I always say a lot of shit to him to bring him down, but why did this time feel different?
“Hey, Bakugou?”
“Yeah, what the hell is it, Wings?”
“Was it just me or did Midoriya act weird?”
Bakugou looked at his friends in surprise. “You noticed it too?”
His other friend nodded. “Yes, he seemed much more withdrawn and has not done his usual mumbling for the last 3 weeks.”
Bakugou clicked his tongue. It’s true, he hasn’t done that for a while. What is going on with the Nerd?
Wings then pulled out his phone. “There was one other thing…”
Bakugou looked like he was about to blast something. “What is it now?”
“Before Physical Education while he was putting his gear on I noticed his back was red and swollen-”
“What!?” Bakugou couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “What do you mean red and swollen!!??”
His two friends flinched at his outburst and the explosions coming from his hands. Eventually, Wings gulped and handed the blonde his phone. “I think it would be best to show you, I snuck a pic without him knowing…”
“Give me that!” Bakugou grabbed the phone and sure enough, it was Midoriya facing away from the phone and at the lower part of his back, that was visible. Was indeed red, swollen, and from the looks of the marks, fresh.
“What the hell?” The blonde was in shock, trying to figure out where he got those wounds from. He walked behind him this morning, so he for sure knew that he was not beaten on the way to Aldera. And yesterday he was fine on the way home, except…
Bakugou’s eyes widened in shock at a horrible thought. He looked like death when heading back home. Why?
He raged and kicked a full soda bottle and pulled his own phone and sent the photo to his mom, demanding answers and possibilities. Then went back to the duo.
“Wings, Fingers, do not tell anyone else about this. The Old Hag will look into this.” He told Wings and handed back the phone. “In the meantime, let’s keep an eye on Deku for the rest of the week.” He then looked at them weirdly when they looked behind him in fear. “What?
They pointed behind him and when he turned around he came face to face with a sludgy monster with a messed up smile.
“Thank you for getting me out of that cramped prison. Now as a reward you will be my host.”
“...Shit!”
While seeing 2nd holder being Almost!Bakugou is more exciting at least than the last couple of weeks, I just want to remind everyone that the fandom is intrigued by him only because he resembles our!Bakugou - a character we’ve spent a long time being invested in and learnt to root for.
Tumblr media
And whatever almost!Bakugou’s deal is (ancestor, or alternate universe Bakugou Ni. Katsuki or Same-Face cosplayer of on the nose parallel), the attention he gets is all earned by our!Bakugou. His story is relevant mostly in relation to our!Bakugou.
Because this dude is dead and as a character, his development is for all purposes is done (while our!Bakugou is dealing with a ton of shit somewhere out there and I frankly want to see what he’s up to!!!) And this is why I’m really getting worn out by the 7-quirk OFA plot.
Long rant under the cut.
We are treading water in Vestige-World, with Deku’s new dead friends. They are not characters we are invested in, because in order to do that, we need to spend time with them and watch them struggle and change and learn and grow. But that’s not feasible within the span of the story - so we just get a short-hand explanation of their history - but they have no depth and only very surface personality.
Banjo is the loud Good Guy. Nana is the hot thighs Good Guy who happens to be Shiggy’s granny. En is the quiet Good Guy. First is the original Good Guy who looks like Shiggy. 4th is the Good Guy with the scar. 2nd is the tsundere, almost!Bakugou Good Guy. 3rd is the BFF to second Good Guy. Like the seven fucking dwarves.
In the end, they don’t really have distinct motivations. All these supposedly “randomly” chosen people are good and heroic and they do their best and now that AFO somehow pulled them out of the core of OFA, they sit around on their cushy chairs, breaking themselves to be helpful to their cute little kuhai.
Because it is all so shallow, Deku gets no development from it either. We are visibly trying to speed through this thing so much that smokescreen is unlocked off-screen, Deku learns everything in a week (undermining everyone else’s quirk learning curves)- but there is no process, no learning, no struggle, no change.
Sure, there is a change of design into Badass!Bunny (Mirko still wears it better), but how did the vestiges IMPACT Deku? What did he learn other than new skills? What perspective did he gain?
It feels like Deku is the empty cup, they keep pouring their skills into, and he just stands there as always, with eyes wide, as our one-way mirror into vestige!world, which itself is just a bunch of asspull, make-it-up-as-we-go-along type of lore.
Deku has very little agency in this OFA-business. Things happen because of external factors:  because of “singularity”, because AFO tried to take it, because the vestiges decide to “show up”, because First gives a pep talk to 2nd and 3rd. They give him live instructions on how to use the new toys, so he’s not even figuring anything out. Ironically, it feels less and less like Deku’s quirk and more like OFA Hivemind using Deku’s body.
And because obviously the objective is just to give Deku more powers, well the powers themselves are also under-developed and uninteresting.
In BNHA-universe, quirks are established as physical abilities with limits. They require a limited resource, or have a downside or they are on a timer. No power is limitless.
Yet the OFA-extras don’t seem to have any of these things.
Black Whip is the worst offender. We don’t know what resource it uses, it has no timer, it can sprout from any body part, its strength is not connected to the strength of the wielder, yet it is apparently strong enough to keep restraining a Muscular level guy - it doesn’t even disappear after manifestation even though it’s not corpoeral. Like, BW has absolutely no limits.
It’s only known parameter is: whatever Horikoshi wants to draw.
Float is another outrageous quirk. Everyone else’s flight requires a resource, an active effort, or a trade-off between flying and fighting. Float is just a limitless air-movement with no downside or timer that completely leaves Deku’s arms and legs free to fight. And is a mostly passive ability? I guess? We don’t know... But it sure doesn’t look complicated since Deku unlocked and used it instantenously with no problems.
Danger Sense - I had so much hope for Danger Sense because finally a quirk that could have been troublesome, stretching Deku’s mental limits and teaching him something about trying to do everything by himself.  While in the raid Deku blacked out from Danger Sense, within one week it developed into a power that can be used basically the same way as Sir’s prediction (which was on limited timer) to evade opponent’s move and also as a long-distance police emergency scanner to locate more danger. No downsides - no mental strain - no confusing input into the fight.
Smoke Screen - ok, we know nothing about this one either, other than it’s like BW - makes something out of nothing.
So here we are now. Deku spending time with his under-developed dead friends and using a bunch of extra quirks that he got as free candy. It’s all fight mechanics. Where are the emotional stakes???
7-quirk OFA undermined the uniqueness of characters like Sero, Froppy (BW), Uraraka (Float), Jirou, Shoji (Danger Sense), like we said it would. It shifted story-time from the characters we are invested in, and the bonds we care about, to have Deku interact with his under-developed and uniformly Good Guy dead friends. It gave him more powers, but none of it feels earned. He’s not challenged either by the power or the history.
There is no sense of accomplishment like there was when Deku figured out Full Cowl, or when Bakugou got his new explosion, or when Todoroki finally pushed his limits to get flashfire.
I’m not saying there was never potential in this plot. The vestiges could have challenged Deku more - some of them could have been a bit more grey (maybe 2nd will be just a bit), the powers could have been more challenging with more downsides, with bigger off-sets.  Having so many people in his head could have stretched Deku psychologically.
But Vestige-land feels like a shiny, boring suburb where everyone is just so NICE and HELPFUL that it feels kind of fake.
And what did we gain? Yes, Deku got more powers and a wardrobe change, but no character development.
And what did we lose? Everything. We are losing out on seeing Deku’s friends, the meaningful bonds, their struggles, their resolve.
I’m sorry, but I’m a 1000 times more invested in seeing Bakugou and Todoroki (especially Todoroki! OMG! what an untapped drama potential) and Momo, and Mina and hell Aizawa, Shinsou - they all came away with so much pain and unfinished business. And the League - Dabi, Tomura, Toga ... so much potential.
Instead, we are getting an - what feels like - obligatory  MC arc that tries very hard to pretend that Deku is the only hero left in the world (when we know that there is no way the others are not out there doing their best, and if they aren’t, that’s because some stupid plot asspull) who will fix everything by himself.
Because it’s blatantly untrue. We’ve spent years learning that there are other heroes who can and will step up when they need to, all the class, most of the pros, other students... I’m feeling such a whiplash and deep disappointment every time I open a new chapter with this peddling of the “new symbol! Deku stuff”.
And no cutesy fucking lunch-boxes are going to mask the emptiness of this crap.
And I’m baffled by the fandom reaction. There are so many people who say that oh, finally, because Deku deserves his own arc. Sure, but doesn’t it matter what kind of arc? Wouldn’t you want to see something more meaty than “omg our boy looks so badass!!!! squeeeeee!!!!”?
I’m hoping still that it is a build-up to something more interesting and Deku’s current obsession of doing it all alone and frankly grating martyr-complex is not going to be framed as a good thing (even though it looks right now that this is totally being framed as a good thing and a Mighty Boy origin story) and will lead to some kind of failure instead that will teach Deku to learn to rely on his friends and empower them and not just try to fix everything for them, which after 300+ chapters feels pretty fucking insulting on behalf of the “side characters”.
into the night (bakugou x reader) - chapter 4/?
Tumblr media
Summary:
You were born to die.
It is a fact you’ve known since your quirk first manifested, and one you have been denying for just as long. You refuse your supposed fate and try to live the best life you can while remaining undetected.
But maybe fate has another plan. A chance encounter on a mountainside changes your life forever.
Chapter One
MATURE : MINORS DO NOT INTERACT // 18+
The day feels almost dramatically longer than normal. You love your dad and really should be relishing the time you get to spend with him, but your brain is elsewhere the entire time. It swirls with the urge to do more research, to try and figure out who exactly the blond is and why he was here. Especially if he posed any sort of threat to the small town, or if this was a sign of more heroes arriving. Unfortunately, being with Dad meant you couldn’t risk looking him up. It just wasn’t worth the risk of him seeing your phone.
So the day drags on until Dad leaves for his weekly ‘game night’ with the other older men of the village. He offers for you to join, but you wave him off and say that you’ll meet him at home. You remember being forced to go as a kid - at least until he was comfortable leaving you with someone else - and absolutely hating it. A bunch of men drinking, playing card games, and reciting awful jokes was never your style. Or you thought so anyway, but you seem to be spending many similar nights at Naoko’s bar.
There is a bit of extra time before the call with Naoko, so you pop into a nearby restaurant and grab some food to take home. You chat lightly with the man behind the counter, someone you knew vaguely from school, grab your food, and head out. One hand occupied with the bag, you use the other to reopen your search on your phone on the hero. You click the first article that comes up.
The article is dated from about three weeks ago and has a small paragraph at the top which spoke of a villain attack on the western side of Musutafu. Directly underneath it is a slideshow of photos. The first few showcase a rather vicious-looking villain destroying a small street. They seem to have some sort of mutant quirk along with...crystal manipulation? You wonder at the crystals surrounding the villain for a moment before swiping further. The next photo turns out to be a video. You hit play.
It’s a shaky amateur video, probably taken from someone's cellphone, with no sound. The camera follows an explosion in the distance quickly getting closer. The man you now know as Ground Zero appears on the scene almost impossibly fast, sending concrete flying around him as he lands in an explosion. The video ends there. You swipe to the next video. This one seems to be taken from above, out the window of a nearby high-rise building. Ground Zero fights from the air, held afloat by explosions. He calls out to another hero fighting on the ground. The distance is too far to see anything of the other hero other than the colour red. The video stops. You swipe to the next. The last part of the slideshow is a photo. Ground Zero isn’t in it at all, but the villain has been defeated. The red man from before is shown placing cuffs on the villain.
The actual article doesn’t have much information on Ground Zero. Actually, it doesn’t speak of the explosive hero much at all. If you hadn’t seen the pictures, you wouldn’t think he was a big part of the fight. The most the article speaks of is the destruction he caused at the site. The other hero - Red Riot apparent - takes the spotlight in the article, as it goes on about his numerous accomplishments and motivational words. It seems a bit unfair, truthfully.
By the time you have read through the article, you make it home safely. You hang up your coat and scarf, and toe-off your boots before heading into the warm house. Placing the food on the kitchen table, you make your way upstairs to grab your laptop. Laptop and charger in hand, you head back down to the table and get yourself set up. It is only a few minutes to five when you start the video call.
It rings for a few moments before being picked up. Naoko smiles in the video, giving a small wave before sipping from her glass of wine. She looks like she is at home, relaxed on her plush white couch. “So, any run-ins with your mountain boy today?”
“He’s gone.” You grab your food, sliding it closer. “Apparently he checked out this morning.”
She frowns. “So, no autograph then?”
“I guess not.” You shrug. Not like you were planning on asking for one anyway. That would be much too awkward after everything that happened. You begin to unwrap your take-out food, the call silent as you try to figure out what to ask first. “So, any idea why he was here?”
“I’m not sure.” She adjusts in her seat, crossing her legs and taking another sip of wine. “There's been nothing online about it, not even in the groups I’m in. It’s weird, usually, the media is all over him.”
“Why?” You ask, finally freeing the food from its plastic wrapping. You attempt to throw the plastic into the proper recycling bin across the room. It misses. Figures.
She chuckles. “Well, you met the guy for like a minute and determined that he was an asshole.” Okay, that's true. “He’s prone to acting out and gets into trouble with the media a lot. Especially recently.”
“I guess that makes sense.” You pause to take a bite of your food. “Why is a guy like that even a hero?”
Naoko shrugs. “He doesn’t really talk about his motivations or anything in interviews, but he’s good enough to be number six even with that personality of his.”
Number six? You swallow, thinking. Wait. “The number six hero?!” Your voice raises in shock. The hero rankings were pretty important, even you knew that. To be anywhere in the top ten meant you had to be absolutely amazing. “How?!”
She doesn’t react to your question, instead looking off to the side and swishing her wine. Her lips are pressed together in thought. “Maybe...maybe he was on a break.” She finally speaks, her voice trailing off a bit. “After all the drama from the JHBC...it would make sense to disappear…”
“Drama?” You prompt, after a long moment where she does not continue.
Holding up a finger in a ‘wait’ motion, she downs the rest of her glass quickly and stands up, disappearing from frame. A minute later she returns with a full glass and sits down. “The last JHBC was about two weeks ago-”
“What’s that?”
“The Japanese Hero Billboard Chart.” She gives you a look for interrupting but continues. “It's where they announce the new rankings. Usually, you can sort of tell who is going to be where in advance, this is more of an ‘official’ thing, but this year the number five spot was a toss-up between Ground Zero and Deku.”  Ah, one of the heroes you actually vaguely knew about. It was sort of hard not to know of the ‘new symbol of peace’ or to see his merch essentially everywhere, even in Hokkaido. “Deku blew everyone away by not only cracking the top five but moving immediately to the top 4.”
“Ohh, so there was drama between Deku and the old number four hero?” What did this have to do with Ground Zero being in Makkari?
Naoko smiled. “Nah, Edgeshot didn’t really show anything but respect for Deku as he took his spot. I mean, we all saw it coming in a way. That man is going to be number one sooner rather than later. The drama came from Ground Zero.”
She takes another long sip before continuing. “Nobody knows the specifics, although there is a lot of speculation online about it. As Deku was announced as the number four hero, there was a loud scream and a sound off-screen. The entire stream got cut out for a few minutes. When it came back on, Deku was on stage looking really uncomfortable. Ground Zero was called for his spot as number six, but the audience was told that he had to leave for an emergency. The guy has been essentially missing from all media since.”
“Suspicious.”
“Extremely.” Naoko agrees. “The online consensus is that he lost due to his attitude. Around the time of the rankings, almost everything you saw about him was super negative. He seemed to be blowing up at everything. It was everywhere, I’m honestly surprised you never saw it.”  You shrug. It’s not like you had been aggressively avoiding all things hero for all your life. Nope.
“Anyways, after all of the media coverage, it was sort of weird when he just disappeared. Nobody saw him in fights or on patrol. Lots of conspiracy groups popped up that maybe he was injured or undercover or something worse happened at the JHBC, but no official source came forward.”
“And then he ends up here.” You mutter. “But why Makkari?”
“I don't know.” She shrugs. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen him in Hokkaido. He’s usually closer to his agency and the other top ten in Musutafu.”
All of that is interesting, sure, but honestly, the only thing you care about is: “Does that mean there's a villain here?”
“Let's hope not.” She sighs. “The heroes here seem to be acting the same. I saw Grand and Turtle Neck on patrol the other day and they seemed calm. Got myself an autograph easily enough.”
“Who?”
“Oh my god.” She pressed one hand to her temples. “You should at least know the local heroes, especially with your job.” You shrug, taking the opportunity to stand up and throw out your crumbs and extra packaging.
When you return, Naoko has a new glass of wine. “Well, no matter what he was doing here, he’s gone now, apparently.”
She hums thoughtfully. “Did he…Did he seem weird? Say anything?”
“I don’t think so.” You think back to your interactions with him. “I mean, I wouldn’t really know.” Drunk-you aside, anytime you spoke to him on the mountain was kind enough...wait.  “I gave him a lecture about his quirk…” You mutter. “Oh my god. I gave a pro hero a lecture about using his quirk without a license.”  You had been worried for him.
Naoko laughs. “Hey, it’s a story to tell at least.”
You think of your dad and shake your head. “No. I don’t want anyone to know. Nobody here seems to know there was a hero, and it's probably a good thing. And if he’s gone, there’s probably nothing to worry about.” Staring into the camera, you continue. “Don’t tell anyone, please.”
“I don’t get you.” She shakes her head, letting out a breath of frustration. “But, whatever girl, it's fine. I won’t tell a soul.” For a moment, neither of you speak. There's a bit of a weird mood between you both after the conversation, the type of mood that comes from two people with completely different outlooks on a situation. You wish you were there in person to break it.
A sound from her end echoes lightly through the computer. She gasps as a big black mass jumps up on her lap. Naoko makes a high-pitched sound and holds her glass above her head, careful not to spill wine on her white couch. “You little shit…” She mutters.
The weird mood breaks. You laugh. “And there is the man of the hour. I was wondering where he ended up."
“The only man allowed on my lap.” She jokes back, carefully placing her wine glass on the coffee table beside her laptop.
The conversation flows away from the topic of heroes and onto daily life. You grab a can of beer from the fridge and join her in drinking. By the time the call ends a few hours later, both of you are tinted red and giggling. You wish her goodnight and close the laptop. Your bones pop satisfactorily as you get up, stretching a bit once fully standing. You grab your stuff and head upstairs, depositing it on your desk before heading to the bathroom.
Nighttime routine complete, you change into warm pajamas and slide into bed. A quick look at the clock on your nightstand shows that Dad should be home in about half an hour, although by the way you’re yawning you doubt you will be awake. Stretching out comfortably in bed, you stare at the ceiling.
Your mind naturally drifts to the blond hero, going over the weird interactions you’ve had. A lot of what he said and did makes more sense in hindsight, like when he asked if you wanted his autograph or his complete shock at your warnings about his quirk and safety on the mountain. Honestly, you had thought he was just being a dick.
Well, it's over now. He’ll go back to Musutafu and you’ll go back to your life of only seeing heroes while on the job. In the end, Naoko was right, it’ll just become a story to tell in the far future.
The ground is covered in snow when you make your way back to Sapporo a few days. It happened quickly, as the weather tends to do this time of year. You had to cut your visit short by three days due to the heavy snowfall predicted for the area. Dad tried to argue that your team doesn’t need you that bad, but you were insistent.
The drive back is peaceful. It’s not too long of a drive, and soon you can see the city in the distance. You can't help but smile as you look at those big buildings looming ahead, lights almost like stars in the dark. The city is as congested as usual, but you make okay time as you drive through the city center towards your end of town.
After dropping off the car at the rental place, you make the walk home. The air here is nothing in comparison to the clear and fresh Makkari, but you’ll get used to it again soon enough. Pulling your luggage behind, you make your way through the city. It’s still early, really, so you decide to make a detour from your house. The sight of the bar, with its non-descript sign and dark windows, fills you with warmth.
It’s a quiet Wednesday night, with a few patrons littered throughout either drinking at tables or playing billiards. It’ll probably get a little busier a bit later. You glance over to the bar. Naoko is there, leaning against the counter and speaking to a customer. She looks up, eyes wide. Her mouth opens in shock, then she calls out your name. Leaving her customer, she rushes around the counter to wrap you in a hug. You return it happily. The customer, a regular that you’ve spoken to a few times, waves at you with a smile. It’s really nice to be back.
You sit on a barstool as Naoko makes her way back behind the bar,  placing your luggage beside you as best you can to not take up much room.
“I thought you were back on Saturday.” She says, a question in her statement.
“Weather.” You reply. “Makkari is supposed to be hit by a pretty bad snowstorm tomorrow.”
“I bet your dad wasn’t happy.” She hasn’t even met the man and knows. Naoko shoves a drink at you. You don’t know what it is, but take a sip. It’s...spicy.
You shake your head, a small smile forming. “He tried to convince me to stay.” It had been...difficult to say the least. He has always hated that you chose to live here. “So, what was I interrupting when I came in?” You smile apologetically at Naoko and the customer. The regular seems to be asleep against the bar. Huh.
“Ah, I was just telling Haru here about the fight I had to break up last night.”
“Oh?” You prompt, running a finger around the top of the glass. “What happened?”
“Just your average drunk assholes.” She replies. “Not regulars, thankfully. I had to use my quirk to get them out.” Naoko lets out a breath and leans against the bar. “I can’t imagine working here and not having my quirk.”
You nod absentmindedly. Her quirk - Calming Touch- does come into use pretty often at the bar. Calming Touch is pretty much what it says on the tin, she is able to calm down anyone she touches when she activates her quirk. It can work on any type of extreme emotion. Luckily, it’s not classified as a dangerous or physical quirk, so she is able to use it without a license.
Hm. There is a weird silence. You look up, locking eyes with Naoko’s. She seems tense. “What?”
“I’m so sorry!” She blurts out. “That was super rude of me.”
“Huh?”
“The quirk thing.” She continues. “I shouldn’t have said that.”
Ohh...you get it now. “You quirkless?”  The voice comes from your right. You turn to see Haru awake, leaning against his arm on the bar. Huh, you didn’t realize he had been awake.
“Ah, uh-” You stumble through your words.
“It's okay,” Haru mumbles, laying his head back down on the bar, facing you. Dark eyes stare at you.“‘ ‘m too.”
“Thanks.” You smile, ignoring the pit of guilt forming in your stomach. You turn to Naoko. “ It’s okay. I’m used to it. Lived this way my entire life.”
“Still…” She sighs. The bar door swings open, slamming loudly against the wall. You turn to look over your shoulder. A large group of people has come in, a few of them looking at the door in shock. Well, it’s not like you haven’t accidentally done the same thing. After a moment they head towards the back where the pool tables are, four splitting from the group to head towards the bar.
“I’ll get out of your hair.” You say, sliding off the barstool. “I should be getting home anyway.”
“Be safe getting home!” Naoko asks.
“Always.” You grab your luggage as the four converge on the bar. “Bye Haru!” You call out, not knowing if the man fell asleep again, and leave the bar.
Leaving the warmth of the bar for the cold outside hits harsher than before. You wonder idly if the temperature went down while you were in the bar. Burying your face in your scarf, you turn left and head down the street. It's busy this time of night, but you maneuver effortlessly through the crowds.
It takes less than ten minutes before you reach your apartment. Looking up at the large building, you make your way up to the front door. It's not an especially nice building, but not horrible either. It’s pretty average, although the landlord is known to never reply to complaints. Still, the apartment takes up a huge portion of your paycheck.
You take the elevator up to the sixth floor and make your way down the hall to your door. Opening the door to a dark apartment, you’re hit by a sense of comfort. It’s always nice to be back in your own space. You toe off your shoes, hang up your coat and scarf, and head inside. Leaving the luggage at the door - a problem for tomorrow- you turn on a lamp and head over to your couch, plopping down.
After a few minutes of molding to the couch, you grab your phone from your pocket.
[Contact: Bossman]
You: I am back in Sapporo a few days early. Let me know if there is anything I can help with.
It might seem a little sad to give up your last day of vacation but you love your job, and it’s not like you have much else to do. Most of your friends share the same job as you, so it’s not like they are free often. You can accomplish everything you need -groceries, laundry, etc- tomorrow. Unless you go back to work, you know you’ll be spending most of the next four days on your couch watching tv.
You let yourself lay in the quiet for a bit longer. The mix of traveling and whatever drink Naoko had given you -and oh wow you forgot to pay, shit- making you a bit more tired than you would have suspected. It’s going to be an early night. Finally, you stand up and make your way to the bathroom. You feel a bit better after a quick shower, the last remnants of cold seeping from your system. But something about that warmth just adds to your tiredness. You don't even put on clothes, you just head straight to bed and fall asleep.
You dream of playing billiards with a bear. You lose.
It’s your phone that wakes you up. Opening your eyes a bit, you stare at the ceiling and contemplate the benefits of not picking up. In the end, the phone wins out. You roll onto your side and grab it, checking the contact.
[Contact: Bossman]
Huh? You pick up on the last ring. “Hello?”
“Hey!” The voice on the other end is way too chipper for this early in the morning. Wait, is it early? You check your phone. 8:35. Hm. Acceptable. “I got your message yesterday. If you want to come back early, I have no problem with that.”
“Really?!” You sit up. Ouch. A crick in your neck.
“Well, there's a bunch of paperwork you need to do.” You groan. He laughs. “Don’t be like that. It’s your paperwork that I’ve kindly allowed you to put on hold during your holiday, but it needs to be done.” A pause. You feel your excitement droop. Maybe a few days of laying on the couch will be better than paperwork, but if you have to do it anyways...“If you get it done early, I don’t see any problem with having you at-ready.”
“Yes!” You say instantly. “But, why?”
“There’s been an uptick in villain attacks recently.” He says. “We need all hands on deck. That’s all I can really tell you.” Ah, the wonders of bureaucracy. He always says the same line when it’s an order from the top.
“Alright.” You conceded. “Can I come in today?"
“Whenever you want.” There's a sound in the background.  “Gotta go. I’ll see you later?” You agree and hang up. After that conversation, you’re wide awake. Part of you wants to go straight to work, but you know you have some stuff you need to do first.
You stretch and slide out of bed. It’s colder than you expect. You shiver, looking down. Oh yea, you’re naked. Right. Heading towards your closet, you pick out some casual clothes and get dressed. You start the day with a quick run to the grocery store, grabbing take-out breakfast on the way home. You eat on the couch, laptop in your lap and check up on emails. After, you tackle the errands around your house by organizing your luggage, laundry, and watering your plants. You hum as you mist the nerve plant on your window, looking out. Your eyes scan the area around you. It's busy on the street below, as is usual for this time.
Your eyes lock onto a building a few blocks down. You can barely see it in between the other buildings, and it looks relatively nondescript from your angle. But that building is the single reason your rent is through the roof. The hero agency. It had been by your Dad's insistence that you moved to this building. It was the only one in the area with a rent that you could possibly keep up with. At first, you thought it was odd that Dad was so insistent upon you being closer to heroes, but the more you thought of it the more you understood. The only thing that man is more worried about than heroes is villains, and villain attacks in the area surrounding a hero agency are extremely rare. None have occurred even close to the area since you moved in.
Your phone alarm goes off, warning you of the time. 12:00p.m, time to go. You get dressed in your uniform, throw on your coat and scarf, and head out. Your workplace is on the east side of Sapporo, so you take the subway most of the way. The building, tall and surrounded by various emergency vehicles, takes up almost a block.
The receptionist waves at you while on the phone as you walk by. You smile at him and continue to the elevator. The third floor is, as usual, in an organized state of chaos. Coworkers rush past you on their way out to some sort of emergency. Others sit at desks furiously typing away or are on intense-looking phone calls. You head towards the large office at the back, your boss's office. He is on a call but locks eyes with you through the window. The man looks at your uniform, rolls his eyes, and points towards the back of the room. You look over and fight back a groan. An empty desk sits there, a stack of paper already on the edge.
Still, you head over and plop down. The stack of paper looks even larger up close. You wish the department could just go paperless. You log into the computer, then log into your account and take a moment to stretch. A deep breath, and you begin.
Nighttime hits way before you are even close to being done. You take small breaks in between for coffee runs and the occasional small walk for exercise, but otherwise, you remain glued to your seat, determined to finish this work by the end of the day. The idea of leaving more of it for tomorrow is just too horrible.
Eventually, you submit the last of your work. You don't exactly feel accomplished, but the relief hits you nonetheless. Sitting up from your hunched position, you can feel the bones in your back crack happily. You check the time: 8:00 p.m. Not that bad, actually. You essentially did a full 8-hour day.
“Done?”  You look up at the voice. It's your boss. He has a coat on, probably on his own way out. You nod. “Alright, I’ll put you back on the roster. Keep your pager close.” He tosses you a pager and leaves.
At eight hours, you have four more that you could be on-call. Logging out of the computer, you stand up and head towards the elevator. After eight hours in this building, you need to get out for a little bit. You wander around the perimeter of the station, looking up into the sky and missing the stars.
The pager buzzes in your pocket. You startle and grab at it. The display simply reads EMERGENCY and a number. You look at it and break into a run back for the building. Luckily, you’re not far.
The number corresponds to the vehicle that you have been assigned. You find the ambulance quickly, the last of your team to arrive and jump into the back. The team usually consists of four people per vehicle. Two sit in the front, and two ride in the back. It’s a bit surprising when three people jump in the back. You sit down and buckle your seatbelt, looking over the others. The first is a man you’ve worked with before and the second is one you haven't. The new guy barely manages to do his seatbelt up before the vehicle begins to move.
“Hey.” You smile. The man looks over, face nervous. “I haven’t met you before. What’s your name?”
“Eito.” The guy has an adorable voice. Damn. “I’m a new hire.”
“And they stuck you with us?” You ask, raising an eyebrow. New hires don't normally go to your section of the department.
“My quirk.” Eito mutters. “I can create a shield of energy, only for about a minute, and they’re pretty weak but…”
“Ah, I see how that could be useful during a villain attack.” You nod, moving on to ask him questions about the emergency. Apparently, the call itself was vague, although that wasn't unique in your job. The Villain Attack division is called in the moment a villain is reported, so you never had enough information.
The ambulance comes to a skidding stop. You’re quick to unbuckle your seatbelt, gear up, and jump into action. Opening the doors was a weird scene, to say the least. Large cloth-looking dolls walk down the street, hitting buildings. They don’t seem strong enough to destroy them in one hit, but some of the nearby ones are crumbling. You can’t see the villain that must be controlling them.
The vehicle is stopped on the outskirts of the fight, carefully hidden away.
“We have one injured reported to the right.” The coworker in the passenger seat pops around the side of the ambulance holding a radio. “Let’s go.”
You move as a seasoned four-person team, the driver having to stay in the ambulance in case it needs to move. Your team stays on the outskirts of the battle raging on as you walk, ducking into buildings and behind cars to avoid notice. Eito trails behind you carefully. Eventually, you reach the injured woman. She is awake and bursts into tears as she sees your team. Eito and you watch the area around you as your coworkers attend to her. They assess vitals, ask questions and make the final decision that she is okay to move. She seems to have a broken leg, so they help stabilize the leg before helping her up. Your two coworkers are practically carrying the woman as they move, with you at the front and Eito at the back as lookout.
As you move, something catches your attention in the corner of your eye. A shoe on the ground. You pause, looking a bit closer. Shit. That’s a leg. Hopefully connected to a person. They’re mostly hidden behind some rubble, so you can’t even tell if they are alive or not.
You look at your coworkers and tell them the situation. “I’ll help you get her out, then I’m going back in.”
Your coworkers agree, and you all try to speed your walk as fast as possible to the ambulance. The moment you can see it in the distance, you call for a split and turn around. “Eito, come with me.” A two-person team is only slightly better than a one-person, in the case of issues popping up, but you’ll take anything.
Eito nods and the two of you make your way back to the area you saw the leg. As you make your way back, you notice that the fight has gotten a lot closer than it had been previously. You are going to have to be quick. You motion to Eito and the two of you creep up the street until you reach the rubble.
At first, you think he must be dead. The man lying there in a pile of blood just can't be alive. Eito crouches down beside him and checks vitals. “He’s alive!”
“Woah.” You crouch down and begin your own assessment. You use Eito mostly as an assistant, aware that time is not with you for many reasons.
The outcome of your assessment is grim. The man is bleeding heavily from a wound in his stomach, the cause of the blood around him. His whole body is twisted weirdly, likely a spinal injury. You can’t move him. Shit.
Eito works to stop the flow of blood as you reach for your own radio, calling for a stretcher and immediate assistance. Reaching into your pocket, you grab your small flare and light it, watching as the red light floats above the buildings. The flare is used in situations where the EMT needs assistance immediately but is unable to properly communicate their location. Your team will be able to find you soon. You hope. You go back to helping Eito stem the bleeding.
A large vibration echoes through the ground.
crack
You look up again at the sound. A piece of the building above you crumbles, sending large shards of metal and concrete towards you. You think that you could survive this. Your patient won't.
As you stare, a green light overcomes your vision. The metal and rocks hit it harshly, angry sounds echoing throughout the area. Your wide eyes look over at Eito, who has his hand up, a green light emanating from it. A terrified look is on his face.
“I can't hold it!” Eito exclaims, arms shaking wildly. The green aura suddenly disappears. You close your eyes and brace for impact.
BANG
The impact never comes, but it almost feels like it did. The sound, deafening. Hot air forces you sideways harshly into the ground. Dust fills your nose.
You cough through the dust, opening your eyes. A blurry figure stands amongst the debris, covered in the same dust you’re breathing. You rub at your eyes and push yourself up. The figure - probably a hero- is standing with his back to you. You can't see much of him except for...gauntlets on his hands and blond hair.
Wait.
No.
The figure looks back. Your eyes lock with red ones.
No fucking way.
And the last chapter of the first volume! Though technically there’s after-chapter content that will be in a separate post from this, but for now, what matters is finishing up the quirk assessment and getting into the battle trial!
Honestly, it’s a good thing that I just shoved all the opening arcs from before the USJ together into one tag, because this chapter literally goes from the quirk assessment into the beginning of the battle trial stuff, and trying to separate them out would have been a mess and a half. Better to just have it all in the ‘opening arcs’ tag.
...weird title for something that only comes at the end of the chapter, but whatever, it’s not like we don’t see that happen later on in the series as well.
[No. 7 - Costume Change?]
And we immediately come back to where we left off, with All Might realizing what just happened and what Izuku did and even why! One of those little peeks that remind us that All Might is very smart! Also god, him with a small fanboy moment over how proud he is of his kid and how cool that workaround was, mmm this is the Dad Might content I signed up for.
Izuku is still standing firm, even with his finger swollen and damaged, biting back the pain. Ochako is cheering about that record, Tenya notices Izuku’s finger is damaged and thinks back to the entrance exam, calling it a ‘strange quirk’, Aoyama says it’s stylishly done, and Katsuki is brain broke.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m sorry that’s just so fucking funny. He is such a goddamn gremlin, but he’s also completely shook. He thinks about how quirks never manifest past age four, but somehow Izuku has a quirk.
Tumblr media
He then recalls Izuku saying ‘he earned this’ and gets pissed, blasting forward to demand an explanation while Izuku freaks out-
Only for Katsuki to have his quirk cancelled by Aizawa and also get caught up in the capture scarf.
Tumblr media
Beauty. Grace. He’ll bite off your face.
Katsuki notes the cloth is stiff, while Aizawa tells him that it’s a capture weapon made of carbon fibers and a special alloy wire, then tells Katsuki to stop using his quirk already. Which is interesting; can Aizawa sense when people are trying to use their quirks while under the effects of his? If so, is he sensing the aborted movement of whatever quirk factors exist, or ???
(All I’m saying is that that is some possible fuel for a Dad For One connection but for Aizawa instead of Izuku… you know, just in case.)
As we sort of saw from the last chapter, Aizawa’s quirk has the side effect of giving him dry eyes (he was putting eyedrops in his eyes after using his quirk on Izuku). Izuku thinks that sucks since his quirk is so awesome. Aizawa lets his quirk and scarf drop, telling the class to prepare for the next event.
Katsuki is standing where he was stopped, glaring at Izuku who is holding his hand while Ochako worries over him and his finger. He’s caught up in a flashback (which again, reminder that this is chapter 7 and we already have flashbacks), thinking about how up to then, Izuku was just another pebble in his path. We get a brief cut to a memory flashback (not a chapter flashback) to when Izuku and Katsuki were still friends, and Izuku was waiting for his quirk to come in still, and then repeats that Izuku was only supposed to be a pebble. Single track mind, much?
Ah, that good Bakugou discourse. This is why you do this stuff in a server with friends.
Izuku narrates a short passage of time - over the rest of the events - while handling the pain of his injured finger. Aizawa tells them it’s time for the results, with Izuku thinking about how he’s going to get expelled because the only record worth mentioning was the throw, and how the endurance running failed hard because of the pain. Aizawa says he won’t explain the process behind the scoring process, just that they reflect performance.
And then he reveals he was lying about expelling someone.
Tumblr media
The trio’s faces. Aizawa’s manic smile. The trio’s faces. And Momo there like ‘what did you expect?’ God, I can’t help but giggle.
Izuku just fucking ascending to a new plane of existance here.
Aizawa turns to leave, saying they’re done there and that the documents about the curriculum and whatnot are back in the classroom. He then calls out Izuku, who is shaking in panic (probably about Aizawa changing his mind again - I wonder if teachers before UA pulled that sort of ‘syke’ on Izuku… yikes.)
Instead, he just gets handed a pass to the nurse’s office (not even filled out fully, incredible) and then turns and walks off.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The class is left to stare after Aizawa in bafflement, with Izuku’s narration noting that he’s safe for the moment, but still has too much he can’t do, and that he’s literally starting from the bottom - but here’s there to learn so he can get closer to his dream!
Class rankings:
And- ah, he walked past All Might, who calls him out as a liar. Aizawa either didn’t notice him watching or didn’t know it was All Might specifically who was watching, but either way calls it ‘wasting time’ - which makes sense when all the teachers know about his time limit that he’s spending there watching Izuku the kids do their trials.
All Might notes that April Fool’s was over a week ago, and that the ‘rational deception’ thing falls flat when he expelled an entire class of first years the previous year. Aizawa discards those with zero potential, but he went back on his word here, and then asks if he sensed Midoriya’s potential as well. While giving Aizawa finger guns. Have I mentioned this man is a complete dork yet?
Aizawa catches onto the ‘as well’ bit, and determines that All Might’s supporting the kid - which isn’t his usual style. He then starts walking off again, saying Midoriya doesn’t have no chance, but that’s all he’ll say on the matter. He then says that if the kid had no prospects, he’d cut him loose, since it’s crueler to let someone chase half-baked dreams.
All Might determines quietly that it’s Aizawa’s way of being kind, but out loud states that they can agree to disagree. Meanwhile, in the background, Sero and Sato notice All Might, which probably leads to class 1a going after him and him fleeing for safety.
We transition to when Izuku is heading home, with him exhausted because of his trip to Recovery Girl. Tenya checks in on him, and Izuku says he’s fine, with us seeing a temporary flashback to the nurse’s office. Izuku notes his finger’s better, but he’s exhausted all of a sudden (he doesn’t remember last time since he was unconscious).
A couple of things:
Kamui Woods pez dispenser
Oh, so if he doesn’t have stamina he’ll die! Good to know! :)
Anyways, Izuku thinks about how he can’t keep going on like this and has to figure out how to regulate his power fast. Tenya goes on to talk about how Aizawa had fooled them, making them think that was how it was, only for it to be a deception. (The irony that the mercy was actually unplanned all along gets to me.) Izuku is more relaxed around him now that he realizes Tenya isn’t scary, just super serious.
Ochako rushes over to catch up, asking if they’re heading for the station. Tenya calls her ‘Infinity Girl’ and Izuku repeats it mentally in surprise. Ochako introduces herself, and then brings up their names - though she mistakes Izuku’s name for ‘Deku’, because of what Katsuki said during the test. Izuku corrects her with awkward hand gestures, saying his real name and that the ‘Deku’ is just Katsuki being a bully.
Tenya and Ochako both acknowledge this, with Ochako apologizing, and then mentioning how ‘Deku’ sounds like ‘do your best’, and that she likes it. Izuku goes beet fucking red and immediately replies that Deku is fine, with Tenya chastising him for not showing backbone while Izuku calls it like the Copernican Revolution and Ochako questions who Copernicus is.
The narration takes over, noting that even if there’s a lot he can’t do, he’ll do his best, but having All Might and even some friends behind him… it’s more than he could have asked for.
Tumblr media
Good children. Best friends. God, these were the good days… more OG Dekucrew content please and thanks.
We get one panel of Toshinori that Izuku’s got no time to rest, and that tomorrow the real test begins. Then we’re onto the next day, aka the first day of actual classes - and oh, right, UA has clubs, that’s something that’s easy to forget when we never see it with the hero classes. I mean, considering that the actual hero training classes probably overlap the usual club hours, not surprising, but still.
Present Mic is shown to be the English teacher, trying to get the kids in the spirit of class, but pretty much everyone is finding it boring - asides from Izuku, who is actually trying to answer the question mentally, even if not out loud. The narration notes that the mornings are for normal classes, and that lunch is top-notch food for dirt cheap in the cafeteria (as cooked by Lunch Rush), and then hero training is in the afternoon… possibly after lunch? Which isn’t great when people could end up throwing up. Ah well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These fucking dorks. Two peas in a quirkless-to-superpowered pea pod.
And of course, more meta from the class on how All Might’s drawn differently.
Anyways, All Might gets into Hero Basic Training, how it’ll mold them into heroes, and that there’s no time to waste as he shows off a card reading ‘battle’ before stating that they have battle training.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Have I mentioned he’s a dork? There’s more ham here than in Shatner’s performances in the original Star Trek series!
Katsuki is thrilled with battle training, of course. All Might notes that for battle training, the class will need - as the wall clicks and opens several drawers with numbered cases, each with contents in accordance with the quirk registry and the special request forms fill out before admission - costumes! Which the class is super hyped about. Izuku is holding his backpack in excitement, and All Might orders the students to come out to Ground Beta in ranking order once they’re changed, to which the class agrees.
As he takes his leave, he notes that looking good is important, and to look alive, because from today on, they’re all heroes! We also get some nice transition moments showing pieces of people’s costumes, with Izuku being the last one out as the rest show theirs off.
Tumblr media
So cool! And what a way to end a chapter and a book! And a nice nod to the prototype costume for Izuku. Time to say goodbye to it before the end of this arc.
Next time, I’ll try to get through all the bonus stuff for the end of the volume, and then we can get into the battle trial proper! Looking forward to that.
Tumblr media
Izuku Midoriya x reader/ Katsuki Bakugou x reader
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
Summary: You have struggled with mental health your whole life so why can’t you seem to get it under control. Will you be able to keep the same mask even though two of your classmates have seen under it?
Warnings: Depression, Mentions of suicide/ Attempt at suicide, Angst, Anxiety,
Word count: 4,336
Comment: Thank you all for reading this series, I have two different endings I’ll be posting after this chapter. One will be for Bakugou, One for Midoriya. I’ve enjoyed writing this and I am so happy that so many like it.
Once again you matter and any issues you have are valid!
--------------------------------------
You remember once, when you were little, watching a hero on TV save the day. What hero it was didn’t matter to you at the time. All you saw was this person risk their life to save someone else. You watched the emotions that passed over the citizens face, the relief and security they found after being rescued. You remember thinking that you wanted to save people. You wanted to be someone’s reason for feeling safe, a stable beacon of hope and strength. Oh, how foolish you were. Really a child with dreams too big for her bleak future.
A little girl with a quirk better suited for someone with confidence, for someone who truly believed they could save the world. You remember the excitement when it manifested. You ran around telling everyone you were gonna be a hero. There was no idol for you, you didn’t need to be like All Might. You just wanted to help people and with this quirk you were gonna do it. Other kids wanted to be hero’s for fame or power but you didn’t need any of that. You just wanted to make a difference in someone’s life. As you grew the dream was the same but the reason started to change. You wanted to make a difference in your own life, you wanted self-worth and thought being a hero could give you it. Selfish, that is what you thought you had become. How could you have gotten so lost? It wasn’t that you didn’t want to save people you just wanted someone to save you.
As you grew up each year brought on more and more emotional issues. You were convinced that you had brain damage or were dying of some brain eating bacteria. You weren’t completely wrong, you had issues, mental issues.  The first time you had gone to therapy you were six. You stopped getting along with other kids, stopped playing with toys, stopped being a child. Your family was worried, what could have happened that you lost all desire for life. A little kid not wanting to be a little kid was a strange concept. After therapy and some medication, you were back to being a child, running around and playing hero. You were ten when you watched the people around you go about their days like you didn’t exist. You found out the hard way that the world doesn’t stop when you are depressed. Still a child you had to realize that if you were gone the people around you would go on and eventually forget about you. You couldn’t understand this feeling of anxiety. You tried harder and harder to be noticed in the hopes that if you did disappear or die people wouldn’t be able to forget you. This plan back fired. Your family members, friends, and teachers started getting irritated with you. Your parents yelled at you to behave, your teachers scolded you about being loud, and your friends pushed you away not liking this version of you. Eventually you were secluded, an outcast. You were afraid of being alone so you cried. Crying became a norm for you. You did it in public until the judgement started. People didn’t feel bad anymore, instead they claimed manipulation just like Uraraka had. Crying eventually became a taboo thing you did behind closed doors. You learned how to sob silently, how to scream without being heard. That ten-year-old girl was aware of how painful life was and yet you hadn’t even felt true pain yet.
As you aged beyond ten the headaches started, the voices told you horrible things, your smile had faded out of existence, and you constantly felt like you couldn’t breathe. Your therapy was pointless because no one knew why you were like this. It was trial and error. You’d be fine one minute and then you would have scratches up your arms and hollowed out eyes. You’d look like you hadn’t slept for weeks which was true. You couldn’t sleep because your thoughts were worse at night. When you tried napping during the day you were called lazy, told that you were slacking. How could you be a hero if you slept instead of trained and studied. Your parents meant well when they pushed you toward your goal. They just didn’t know the real you. The you behind chipping paint. You felt like an abandoned building left for the earth to take back. Your words were vines burying walls of concrete. The worse things got, the more you painted portraits and placed them in front of you. People admired your work, telling you how happy you looked, how hard you were trying. You were a success story but what was success when you were miserable and a step away from falling into a pit of despair.
One day things changed and for the first time in a long time you felt normal. You felt excited and happy, you looked forward to waking up. What happened to change you? You were accepted into UA. You had tried harder than you thought possible. Tears, blood, sweat, and a lot of profanity was released from your body on your journey to be a hero. All Might telling you in a holograph that you were good enough made you feel like maybe you were. You hadn’t smiled in a school photo until the day you received your school ID. There you were with a toothy grin staring directly at the camera as if to say ‘I did it’. That should have been the moment your life took a turn for the better. You should have been on an escalator going up and you were for the first year. Even after the attack on USJ, after the training camp kidnapping, after everything with overhaul you still fought with no doubts. You smiled even when you cried with your classmates. You had participated and enjoyed their company. Things had gone so smoothly for a while.  However, mental health issues don’t magically go away. One day feeling mentally exhausted turned to two days feeling useless and massive fatigue turned to ten days of sharp chest pain, uncontrolled emotional breakdowns, and drowning in self-loathing. That most fucked up part was you were dealing with it all alone. You couldn’t tell your parents what was happening. What would they say? They would think you were pathetic, not cut out to be a hero. But were they wrong? Did someone who constantly wished negative things on themselves have the right to be here. You found that you questioned yourself over everything. You wondered why you even tried if you were a failure. Why did you eat while others went hungry stressing over classes while you suffered academically on your own terms? Why drink water when you hadn’t put in enough effort to prove you deserved it. The thing that never changed was wanting to save people. You would die if it meant saving just one person. You wanted to change lives not ruin them. You wanted people to smile not scream and cry. You wanted to do so much more for people but had no energy left to try. Your flame had burnt out and you were running on what little smoke it still produced.
Like a steam engine your legs moved you up the dark staircase. Your fingers ran along the cold railing feeling every nick or chip. You wondered if someone touched you if they would feel the broken pieces. Could you cut someone with your shattered mask, with your fractured mental state. Was there a doctor, a quirk specialist, a magician, any person that could put you back together? all the kings’ horses and all the king’s men couldn’t put poor Y/n back together again. Or at least that’s what was going through your mind as the roof door opened with a swift kick that jolted pain through your leg at the heavy metal it was made of. You were so close to the edge. No one could stop you; no one could help you. No hero was waiting and you weren’t feeling heroic enough to try and stop this. All you could think was how you were just a few steps away. You had failed everything else. You couldn’t, you wouldn’t fail this.
---------------------------------------
You don’t have to remove your shoes since you aren’t wearing any. The roof is much windier than you expected. You jump slightly when the roof door slams from the force of the wind closing it. Your hair is reacting to the wind, trying to blow with it, which would normally bother you but you don’t care about something so trivial. You rub your arms from the slight chill the height and wind brought. Not much longer and you won’t have to worry about the cold, or anything for that matter. You close your eye tilting your head upward toward the vast sky. When you open them, you can barely make out the stars because your vision is warped. It’s like you’re watching the night sky as you sink deep under water. The tears that slide down your cheeks make you angry. Why were you crying when you chose this? You chose to climb the stairs and there was no turning around now. The large metal door wasn’t going to be the way in which you would be leaving. Your legs grow shaky as they move you closer and closer to the fencing. You push your hand against the fencing letting your fingers slip through the diamond patterning of thick metal wiring. This wasn’t going to stop you. Not when you climbed all those stairs and broke open a heavily locked door. You activate your quirk using the blades that appeared on your finger tips to cut the obstacle away. Your quirk allowed you to create blades on your body, they could range from small swiss army knives to sharp saw-like weaponry. A cool useful quirk wasted on a useless fuckup. Once there was a large enough hole in the fence you deactivated your quirk before tossing the damaged property aside. There was a little room between the outside of the fence and the lifted concrete ledge. Just enough room for you to move along the ledge trying to find a good spot. You ran your fingers against the cold stone feeling fragments of cement crumble away. You stopped after finding the perfect spot. You could see city lights in the distance and when you turned you could see the buildings you had run from. The rows of large dormitory building. Some lights were still on and you smiled wondering what these strangers were doing. Maybe some friends were staying up talking about nothing important just enjoying each other’s company. Maybe someone got hungry or needed to finish an assignment. The thing you truly hoped was that none of these lights were coming from a room where someone laid crying wishing for death as you had done for so long.
“Please don’t cry!” Your voice is carried by the wind and disappears into the darkness. You wipe at your eyes because you are yelling to no one but maybe you were yelling to one of those lights. Maybe you wanted anyone hurting to hear you, to feel that you cared. That you believed that they could get better, as a true hypocrite would.
“It’s okay to hurt!” The words weren’t yelled at max volume because your throat was tightening from holding back sobs. You were suffocating on them as you leaned your body over the ledge gripping it for dear life. This time no words came out but instead a scream. A scream that mimicked that of an injured animal, or someone who had witnessed everything they love be destroyed. You screamed until you felt like you couldn’t breathe anymore, till your throat was raw. Your nails dug into your neck, palms pushing against your throat begging for your lung to work. Your body was breaking down and you could feel adrenaline pulsing through your veins. The word ‘breathe’ a mantra pounding in your skull. Maybe this is what you deserved for trying to preach something you didn’t practice, something you didn’t believe for yourself.
“I… I JUST WANT IT TO STOP!” There were rivers of sorrow moving like ghastly rapids down your flushed face. Snot dripped out your nose and you gave up wiping it away. You were ugly right now and that didn’t matter. No one was here to see you like this anyway. That was a good thing. You wouldn’t be able to bear the weight of judgement you’d receive from this nauseating display. “Please make it stop.”
Your grip on the stone wall tightened as you finally pulled yourself onto it. The edge crumbled slightly causing you to feel the smallest bit of apprehension. Why were you scared? Why the hell did you keep questioning yourself? The more questions that you asked yourself the more doubt arose, it was creating hesitancy. You were standing literally on the edge, there was no room for indecision. Eyes closing you think, think about everything that lead you here. The quiet disappointment of your parents, the withdrawn behavior that pushed your friends away, the pain of waking up. The bad wasn’t all you thought about, you thought about the good times. The way your parents cried and held you with worry after the USJ attack, the proud cheering for you at the sports festival even though you lost, and how they always text you to remind you that they love you. They supported you, loved you, and yet you just couldn’t use that as an excuse to feel better. You were still missing pieces of yourself, no matter how much love you received you still hated yourself which made their love feel invalid, undeserved. There were good times with your friends as well. The first day of school was the most terrifying and yet best day. You remember Bakugou getting scolded by Iida, you remember the way Midoriya’s eyes sparkled when learning people’s quirks, and you loved the anxiousness and thrill you felt holding onto that ball. You didn’t even know if you could match everyone else’s throws but that didn’t matter, what mattered was that you were even there amongst such amazing people. The time you spent with Mina was the most important, she was the first friend you made that truly loved and cared about you no matter what mood you were in. The first time you ignored her she gave you space but still checked in on you. She still told you jokes and complimented you. It hurt at first but then you realized that no matter what happened she’d be there for you. She made school easier for you. Other people soon approached you and you had become a part of different groups. Kirishima always invited you to train, Kaminari always tried to make you laugh and flirted playfully with you every time you seemed down. Every time you were lost in bad thoughts, when your body was amongst friends but your mind was in a dark place, Sero would tape Kaminari to the wall. You’d laugh, really laugh no matter how many times he did it. There were so many moments and memories you had shared with your classmates. What a shame they’d go to waste.
“I’m so sorry.” The words came out dejected. No fight left, no more energy. You were tired and ready. Oh god you were so ready for this to all stop. The slightest giggle broke the silence with as much pain the screams had. “I’m sorry.”
Your parents flashed through your mind followed by your friends. Regrets disappearing from your body as you inched closer to freedom. Midoriya would cry, he always cried. You didn’t want him to cry, sitting in that teacher’s lounge waiting for you knowing that you wouldn’t ever return. With you gone he could have friends, enjoy life without your negative energy. He could hold Uraraka close while you faded from existence. Bakugou wouldn’t show his emotions, he was really good at hiding any emotion that wasn’t anger. However, you knew he would be sad. You knew that he had blamed himself for All Might’s retirement. He would blame himself which scared you. This had nothing to do with him failing to save you. This had everything to do with failing to save yourself. You wondered if he would still make too much food out of habit and have to throw it away. Would he train harder as a distraction, potentially overwork himself? One final heartbreaking question passed your mind. Would Mina still smile, would you take her sunshine when you left?
One step and the world seemed to move in slow motion then all at once. The sky was beautiful as you turned to fall backwards. You didn’t want to see the ground. Just the gorgeous vastness of space. You fell with grace. Like an angel falling from heaven, like a shooting star, like someone who had nothing left to live for. Darkness surrounded you as your conscience was lost, as you plummeted toward the ground.
--------------------------------------
Bakugou and Midoriya collided as they rushed into the broken school doorway. The panic in each other’s eyes evident as they shared a look. Usually they were rivals but, in this moment, they wanted the same thing and it didn’t matter who got there first, what mattered was that they got there. Got to you. Finally sharing the same goal, they moved as a unit toward the staircase. How long did it take you to climb these stairs? Were your legs as heavy as your heart? Midoriya wanted to find you sitting on the stairs crying. Bakugou wanted to open the door and find you on the other side about to head back down because you couldn’t do it. As they ran, they both wished they could have done more but there was only so much they could have done. Bakugou wanted to go back in time and fought the people and situations that made you feel this way. Midoriya would have held your hand, dried you tears, reminded you every moment that you mattered. They will do these things if they stop you, after they stop you. Fear drove them up the stairs faster. The temperature getting hotter and hotter as Bakugou activated his quirk to move faster. The dark walls of the stairwell illuminate as Midoriya uses one for all to boost his legs further, skipping a copious number of stairs at a time. Passing a window, they hear you, the words you yelled to those distant lights, ‘please don’t cry’ ’it’s okay to hurt’ it was as if you were giving the validation you wish you had. The words were heartbreaking enough but the added tone intensified them, the broken scream that followed just about destroyed the boys. By the time they reached the halfway point you had begged for this to stop. Your words were like knives digging into their hearts, chests, and minds. How could you have felt this much pain and no one ever notice? What kind of heroes were they if they couldn’t save you? Though the most important thing for heroes to remember is that they can’t save everyone. Right now, they didn’t care if they couldn’t save anyone else, they just wanted to be able to save you.
“Don’t you fucking do it!” Bakugou’s voice matched the time he had broken down in front of Midoriya. Tears welled up in Midoriya’s eyes and his voice followed his childhood friends. “Y/N! WE’RE COMING FOR YOU!”
Bakugou turned and looked toward the doorway leading into the school halls. He didn’t know what possessed him to rush through the doors rather than continue up the stairs, but he was grateful. He ran at the window as he heard Midoriya scream from the floor above. Bakugou rushed through the glass and he wasn’t the only one. Midoriya had kicked through the window and launched himself outside to try and catch you. Bakugou used his quirk to propel himself downward after you. Him and Midoriya moving at the same speed. Fire blasting behind Bakugou while Midoriya kept running along the side of the building. You were passing the floors faster and faster. Bakugou screamed using the full force of his quirk. His hand reached out and grabbed your ankle yanking backward to pull the top half of you closer. His hand gripped the back of your head pulling you into himself. He could see the ground getting closer and couldn’t use his quirk without letting go of you. He would have taken the damage but didn’t. He never hit the ground as Midoriya kicked off the building grabbing the two of you before pushing against the air. He broke through the fourth story window hitting the floor and tumbling through the glass. He had let go of Bakugou who was still holding you, his hand cradling your head against his chest as he took the force of hitting the floor and glass pushing through his sleep tank top. Both boys were breathing heavy their chest pounding harder than when they were running. Midoriya got up rushing to your side. Bakugou moved you away from his chest. Your chest rose and fell in a very slow manner. It was like you were sleeping. They were scared that when you woke up, you’d try again, you’d fight them for saving you. Or maybe you would be okay. Maybe you just needed to be saved to know that it was possible. Bakugou wouldn’t let go of you and Midoriya wouldn’t leave your side. His fingers stroking your hair. The two boys shared a quiet promise to not tell anyone about their sorry states. Bakugou was crying, his eyes bloodshot. Midoriya didn’t look any better, he had to keep wiping his nose and eyes on his hoodie sleeve. There was the distant sound of sirens and the dark room flashed with red and blue lighting from below. Bakugou stood up holding you in his arms. Midoriya took off his hoodie shaking the debris off it before laying over you. Bakugou and him stare at you before looking at each other. They could tell how much the other care for you. Bakugou scoffed before walking ahead. Midoriya smiled sadly walking beside him. His legs were throbbing and he could see the singe marks on Bakugou’s knuckles. They walked down the stairs in silence, no words being shared. Nothing could be said right now, you were safe for now and they just wanted you to be okay. Police, EMT’s, and a fire truck were parked outside. Your classmates stood off to the side behind tape, every one of them. Mr. Aizawa turned with All Might to look at the boys than down at you in Bakugou’s arms. The medical staff rushed forward but before they could try and take you Bakugou pulled the hand supporting your head free. It sparked and his snarl threatened them. Midoriya moved his hand to replace Bakugou’s against your head. The officers told Bakugou to back down and give you over. All Might and Mr. Aizawa approached.
“Young Bakugou, Young Midoriya. You got to her on time. We are so grateful; you both are heroes but now you have to hand her over so they can take her to the hospital.” Bakugou didn’t want to let you go and before he could Midoriya spoke up. “We made it on time to catch her. We didn’t make it on time to stop her. She jumped; we were just able to catch her.”
There was this tension as the realization seeped into the two adults’ minds. You had jumped and that changed things even more. The two boys knew you needed help, a lot more help and they were determined to get it for you. They knew that you couldn’t be magically cured and that this would take time but they had time and were willing to be there through it all. The two boys nodded at each other before handing you over to the EMT waiting. They watched them hook you onto a gurney lifting you into the ambulance and then you were gone. As you were wheeled to the vehicle your classmates behind the tape watched. They couldn’t believe that one of them had been hurting enough to do this. The girls were quiet do to them being the last ones to witness your breakdown. Uraraka was crying and rubbing her hands against her eyes. Sobs broke from her as she realized that she was the one who pushed you to do this. Mina screamed your name willing you to sit up and smile at her but you remained unconscious on the bed. She watched you get taking away and she cried out your name while the students around her cried too. They never wanted this and wished they had been there for you. The thing is though, you would never want them to blame themselves.
“Come on you all get back to the dorms.”  Mr. Aizawa ushered his students away leaving Midoriya and Bakugou to tell the police what had happened. Bakugou was aggressive toward the officer when he seemed to not care about your mental health. They made it seem like you were crazy. Even Midoriya had to argue for your sake. They both left with All Might. They wanted to go to the hospital but only family was allowed to see you. All Might promised the boys that he would take them to see you as soon as you were allowed to have visitors. There was also a chance you wouldn’t want people to see you, or that you’d be considered a threat to others and yourself and be locked up.
While everyone dealt with this heart ache and remorse you rested peacefully for once. Not even aware that you hadn’t succeeded.
