so Nick Fury made Director of SHIELD sometime between 1995 and 2008. He's a regular field agent in 1995, so personally I'd put it close to his interactions with Tony in 2008, but I'll split it in the middle and say 2002.
That means he's Director of SHIELD for roughly 12 years before he starts getting curious about what Pierce is doing, begins digging and Hydra attempts to kill him.
Meanwhile Peggy is Director/Founder/High Command from 1950ish to at least 1989, and she gets to retire, relax, and die peacefully in old age
So we don't even have to unpack all the Hydra scientists it's implied she recruited. Because how on EARTH did she run things for FOUR TIMES as long, and didn't see enough to make her question things??? While it was a SMALLER organization? She really didn't ask a single damn question that ticked Hydra off in fourty years? Not one?
Peggy Carter is either incompetent, or complicit.
the way I've seen multiple Peggy stans attack Nick Fury for not noticing faster- the racism is real

Reminiscing on Clint and Vents ™️
To my knowledge the entire Clint in vents trope in domestic Avengers fics is not founded in any canon reason or instance (I believe our first introduction to Clint even ever being INSIDE a vent is from the Black Widow movie when Nat and Yelena are in that vent in Budapest) which isn’t to say that it’s a bad thing (headcannons are quite literally the bread and butter of fandom culture, but I think when taken meta textually this trope highlights a glaring problem with Clint Barton and Hawkeyes introduction and characterization throughout the MCU.
Which is to say his introduction and characterization was so botched by the hands of Marvel and their inability to juggle a multi-character story without picking favorites (probably corporate meddling to increase merchandise sales) that we literally had nothing to go on as far as his character at the end of Avengers. Zilch. Nothing. Nada. We had Nat and the scorching chemistry between Scarjo and Jeremy but that was it! And because of that we resorted to hand waving that the guy just climbed in vents because he like Obi-Wan likes the high ground. Like—
Think about it. We all already had a pop culture knowledge and in some instance entire movies about Thor, Tony Stark, Hulk (the old version), and Captain America. And even in those movies we had knowledge and an on screen portrayal of: Black Widow, Loki, fuck even Bucky. And yeah sure Hawkeye had a cameo in Thor but did we really get anything about his character on the same level that we got of Black Widow, Loki and Bucky that they got in their respective supporting roles? No. We got his smart mouth and Jeremy’s perfect acting.
And then the Avengers, where he’s brainwashed 98% of the movie?
Yeah it’s no fricken wonder the whole Clint in Vents trope was a thing in domestic Avengers fics—
We.
Literally.
Had.
Crumbs!
This isn’t a bashing of the trope of course but merely an opportunity to highlight just how butchered Hawkeyes introduction was and how Marvel utterly dropped the ball with such a wonderful character.
(And Jeremy Renner deserved better)
Anyway read more Clint Barton centered fics. They are great.
And for the love of god let that man out of the vents!

The way Matt Murdock thinks of himself and his need to be Daredevil makes me so sad.
He thinks he's got the devil in him because he's so violent when really it's empathy that drives him. Empathy for the good people of Hell's Kitchen that are being hurt and not getting help due to deep-rooted corruption (and other things).
He doesn't feel that he needs to attack, but that he needs to protect and there's such a fundamental difference between the two that it's heartbreaking that Matt himself can't see it.

Hey, Fiege👋👋
Here's an idea - hire a pool of fanfiction writers from different mcu fandoms, who know the source material and the characters inside out. Who have skin in the canonical game. Who respect the characterisations. Who can do justice to the possibilities and the untapped potential.
Tumblr media
The mind boggles with the absolute gold that would be produced. It seems like a mad idea but honestly, what's the worst that could happen.

so not to make it weird or anything, but you like the loki show? it seems kind of anti God (can explain if you want)
It might be, a little, after watching the second season. I just think it's well-done (the first season; second one's hit-or-miss.) I also like the points they make about "free" will, and "who gets to decide?"
Basically, it starts an intellectually honest conversation about free will. And it's a very, very good character study of Loki. Which I think is what the point of the show is: who is Loki, and once he understands who he is, what does he do with that?
Now. The show doesn't have much coherent to say about God, our God, the real God. It has no answer for a true higher power. He Who Remains starts out like a higher power simply because he's outside the timelines, controlling them. But he's a fallible human mortal, who had a beginning, and can be thwarted. All of that makes him not a higher power—just another super-powerful person. Then at the end of the show Loki seems higher-power-esque...but you have two problems with Loki As Higher Power. One is that he also is a fallible mortal, same as the problem with He Who Remains. (You know what I mean. He's a superpowered alien, not an eternally preexistent being outside of our reality.) But the other problem is that he's passive.
So if anything, the most anti-God thing about the show is that it has no good answer for "Okay, so everyone has a choice—even if they're not gods with every choice available, they have some wiggle room to choose. But who made the choices possible?" The show has no good answer for that question. Because it either says "a fallible tyrant made the choices possible" or it says "a passive but sort-of benevolent guy makes the choices possible--but that's all he does."
God is neither starting up the machine and then stepping back passively (Loki in the Chair)—nor a tyrant (He Who Remains.) He is better and outside of all of that.
But I really don't think the show was trying to comment on our God, the God of the Israelites and Christians. I think it was trying to comment on Loki, and because Loki starts the show thinking of himself as a god, it has to explore those themes to stay true to the character.
So. Yes, I like the first season. But that doesn't mean I can't acknowledge the problems in it. Tell me more. What do you think of the show's relationship to a commentary on the real God?

So proud of my collaborator & business partner Thom for this very important essay via Reactor on the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Madripoor, a fictional city they've now set in Indonesia. Please read, please share & learn some history from a member of the Indonesian diaspora who beautifully weaves in his own family's difficult life experiences into this article about how Southeast Asia is depicted.
Please share, because I didn't know the Indonesian history Thom shares here and I find that tragic. Learn something new today!

Dear Anonymous,

Not that I know of.

I mean, sure every Samurai has their crossovers here and there, but they're all its own movie. You know? It's easier for the audience to understand, I think. It never feels too big or make your audience think they have to watch 10 to 12 different Samurai shows.

I just realized i haven't ever posted about my take on captain america: civil war and the sokovia accords (in detail). Because i have a lot ot thoughts about the whole thing. I used to be firmly team cap. Nowadays, I'm team "they're all idiots."
And I'm going to get into that right now!
First off, the sokovia accords would never have worked. It's the government. They're corrupt, and when they aren't, it's only a matter of time until they become corrupt again.
I mean, this is the government that had hydra secretly growing within it for longer than cap was on ice! And to think signing over what is basically the "right" (is it even a right, in the first place?) to be a superhero (?) to the government? Not even the government, but all governments! That's the stupidest idea ever!
So, i agree with steve's thinking, for the most part. But i do not completely agree with steve. He's a self righteous ass. Nothing more needs to be said on that, at least for right now.
However, Tony was being a bit emotional and impulsive. He had the best intentions but when faced with the casualties of sokovia, he panicked because he's never really had to look directly at the death and destruction his superhero activities cause. And as a consequence as the way he grew up and the things he's been through, he had no idea how to cope with that. He couldn't fix this with money and so he wanted to just give control to someone else, someone (seemingly) more qualified. He never really has to take responsibility because he can usually just throw money at his problems and/or ignore them.
Tony never really thought about what the government would/could/might do with all the power the accords gave them.
But now, I'm going to switch focus back to steve. Steve didn't even try to see where Tony was coming from. He was very, "I'm right. You're wrong. Fuck anyone/everyone who disagres" and all. Tony was willing to try and work together.
Amd Tony's heart was in the right place. And tve thought/idea of working with the government, or at least trying to, is a good one, he just shouldn't have agreed to the terms so quickly. That kind of thing needs a lot more negotiation and stuff.
And that's my take on it.
Well, the actual accords themselves, at least.

I was making this argument in the notes to someone else’s post, so I decided I may as well make it into a separate post.
If I was the world’s most brilliant engineer and the crown princess of a sovereign nation and my 500-year-old mutant boyfriend accidentally killed my mother while trying to murder the world’s second most brilliant engineer, would I be able to forgive him for that even after my dead cousin urged me to seek revenge when we met on the ancestral plane?
I mean … maybe? Eventually? Because one of the reasons we watch superhero movies is to watch people make decisions based on situations that we would never, ever face in real life, and have those decisions be plausible.
So within that world, in those circumstances, I think the answer is … maybe, eventually, as long as he’s willing to accept defeat in single combat first. 🖤💜

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Commentary - A Tale of Minority Resiliency
I had the privilege of watching this film with a majority Black audience of over 1000 people, and can I just say, we had A LOT of fun. The dialogue was on point, the costumes were awesome, the fight scenes were well directed, and emotions were high. I've always believed that a good movie holds your attention, makes you feel something, and makes you empathize with the characters, and Wakanda Forever checked all those boxes.
Tumblr media
Upon discussing the film with others, I found that we all didn't particularly appreciate one of the film's primary conflicts being between two minority groups who shared similar histories and cultures. War severs the longstanding, cultural impact of the communities involved. While war may not have been discussed heavily (because everything is fairly lighthearted in Marvel movies), it was certainly felt by adult audiences that there would be significant loss on either side of the conflict. I was very ambivalent while watching the film and struggled to find a side or character to root for. In end, I found myself feeling a little stressed over it considering my lens is that of an Afro-Latina, but I was calmed by other plotlines and movie events.
Tumblr media
To be fair though, there is an important difference between Indigenous peoples and Latin people who were colonized. It wasn't until after I reflected on this that I removed my little self-insert. This was also a major topic of inspection on social media when it came to some audience members' favorite characters. There was some confusion and debate on the characters' ethnic backgrounds and how they played a role into both American history and Marvel's cinematic universe. While Marvel definitely seemed to be playing with fire in terms of proper representation and literal themes of slavery, I don't think their portrayal of minority ethnicities was intended to be offensive or exploitative. Admittedly, Disney is definitely culture hopping at this point but, at least in this film, it did not seem to detract from the story or dehumanize the characters.
Tumblr media
What I absolutely loved about the film was an investigation of vengeance and an opposing view of the hero archetype displayed in the late Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa. Letitia Wright (whose costume designer needs a raise) does an amazing job at expressing the grief and trauma her character experiences, making it all the more plausible for her to make the difficult decisions she does. While the thin line between justice and revenge has been thoroughly showcased in films prior, I enjoyed seeing it play into this scenario and involve story building elements and callbacks to the previous movie.
Tumblr media
In conclusion, I think that the external struggle of war and the internal struggle of grief allow for the leveling of socio-cultural walls in the film. Loss is something everyone can relate to and incorporating the historic loss of minority cultures in the United States creates a sense of appreciation for all that remains. This is what makes the characters in this movie relatable and what fundamentally motivates their dynamicity. Being Black or Brown in the United States forces you to carry the burden and legacies of generations that came before you. It is a mutual admiration of this unique experience that the film partially explores and employs as a tool to bond people who have experienced trauma. This also extends to personal, emotional afflictions and plays into the "hurt people hurt people," idea. It takes a lot of strength to overcome this psychological and generational pain to continue to the thrive. Therefore, living a life of resiliency is the only solution.
Random additional comments:
The film had some romantically charged scenes that came out of nowhere, and it was later revealed in an interview that there was an intended romance subplot. Apparently test audiences were not fans of this so, most of the romantic moments were cut from the movie. The end result was two main characters being slightly more flirty than platonic in a general way. Though it did not hinder the plot, it felt abruptly inserted. If anything, it successfully resulted in the thirstification of Letitia Wright and Tenoch Huerta by basically everyone.
Letitia Wright's outfits gave what they needed to give.
Music was a bop. Ooo! And with Rihanna's new music too!

haunting thoughts on Sedition: Unrest
Tumblr media
read it here: Sedition: Unrest
Fandom: MCU, HP Characters/Pairings: Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, Thanos Word Count: 1.6k Content Warnings: kidnapped and imprisoned characters, minor character death
RECAP: With Thanos fully returned and pursuing power, his Death Eaters are called back into service. Two of them will not quietly fall back into the ranks, but instead they may quietly unravel everything from within.
Tumblr media
I've only written a couple of things that I didn't like because I just had the drive to still write those pieces anyway. I like most everything else I write when I write it and some I grow to love more than I did when I wrote it, or I just kind of move on and forget it. I write a fair amount of stuff that I love writing while I'm writing it. This story is a case of something that I loved writing while I was writing it, I loved it when I posted it, and then it just kind of... faded into nothing?
The people I talked to about it while I was sketching out plot were pretty excited, so that spurred me to working, and then I posted it and then 1) it didn't get the traction I thought it might (I didn't have many followers then, but other stories I had been posting picked up a lot more excitement) and 2) I had a lot of other irons in the fire, so I kind of just didn't head into the second or third or fourth parts.
But reading it again now, I remember why I loved building this alternate universe crossover! It was thoroughly fun every time I played with it. I loved mixing my two most important fandoms. HP was my original fanfic fandom, and I read and wrote so much for it actively from 2004-2009, and then still here and there until 2012 and dabbled a touch again in 2016. My HP knowledge ran as deep as the Grand Canyon, and it's still all tucked away in my brain, and so climbing back in and playing around, liberally taking elements from HP and MCU and totally blending them to my whims? I loved it.
I reread the story tonight, and I still love it.
I had such wicked and wonderful intentions.
And soft!dark Steve and Bucky who were going to be playing between the Order of the Phoenix and the Death Eaters? Natasha in the Snape role taking over as the most perfect spy? Thanos for Voldemort? Bucky was going to become involved with a reader who worked at the magical archives and end up having to kidnap her to his house to keep her safe. Steve was going to have a semi enemy-to-lovers thing with a Muggle who worked for the British PM.
Maybe there's a second life for this AU...
