aita for not inviting a friend of mine into my dnd campaign?

so i (18nb) have a friend (18nb, Martin) who i play in a main dnd campaign with with all our other friends (Ill name them Dan, Virgil, Mark, and Ray). Dan is our DM after we kicked out the old one bc she was horrible. We're a pretty close group of friends, but lately we've all been really busy with respective school & work, ect. so we didnt play dnd for a solid, like,, 4 months. I DMed a one shot for everyone besides Ray cause she was flaky anyway, and added in my boyfriend Zeke for it.

Everyone had a really fun time w it and I loved everyones characters, especially Dan's. I watch a lot of dnd shows, so i just keep getting more ideas- but while the one shot was fun it was messy as hell. Ive been wanting to write a campaign for a smaller group for a while, (because when i tried making a campaign with the whole group the character creations were... disappointing to say the least. this sounds mean but i created a fairy world that was very magical & told everyone to go crazy on character creation in a world with few/no humans, and like 5/6 people opted to be a human with a fighting class :/ )

ive been writing a campaign that im really proud of and have a good vision for, and decided to include Mark (because we're best friends) Zeke (because he wants to play dnd more and has no opportunities) Dan (bc he never gets to be a player) and then another close friend of mine outside the group named Gabe (who i love but never get to see) I love their characters & we're all super excited.

Thing is. I was briefly talking with Dan, Zeke and Mark about it at school bc I'd sent everyone a little intro message for the world and they were all super excited and wanted to talk to me about their classes. Virgil had no problem with this and was excitedly asking abt the world + characters along with some other friends from school, but Martin got quiet and went and sat by himself. I could tell they were off, but Martin is generally a quiet person anyway and is often sad + doesnt want to talk for like a hundred different reasons, so i left her alone. Later that day in a different class I have with Virgil he showed me his phone where Martin had sent him a message saying she was really disappointed & felt left out that i hadnt invited them to my campaign.

i instantly felt bad and started to text him, but,,,, to be honest, i dont think im at all responsible for this.

i have reasons for leaving Martin out, the main one being that they just..... arent a very active player. Hes soft spoken and doesnt actually like rping their characters- her character in our main campaign is/was literally mute bc they said they didnt want to have to speak as him. (theyve since taken this back and went through with a curse breaking thing to be able to speak, but her character,,, still doesnt talk much.) he writes really good, sad backstories but doesnt actually play or do anything with them and gets uncomfortable acting. Their characters are not only emotional, but like. crazy. they play a bunch of cool tieflings with insane magic classes & features and then, again,,,, dont roleplay them. I didnt want the group to be big and had a good reason for including everyone that i did, and our other friends that arent in it (Virgil, Ray who is Martins sister btw, all our other d&d interested friends at school) literally dont mind at all. i just wrote a campaign that theyre not in. Martin also has their feelings hurt very easily, so to be honest i just find her being sad about not being in it just... stupid. id never say that to his face & i get that he feels bad, but like....cmon.

im aware im a very very incredibly low empathy person- to be honest i struggle with depression and bpd very heavily and am often mean to my friends & loved ones without really processing why or how much it affects them. i told Virgil that i thought Martins reaction was stupid, and he said that that wasnt fair bc Martin had always been in my campaigns before (which is, yknow, one. Martin and I were even in a campaign with a completely different group a while back and Martin willingly left it very early because the group was loud & their character wasnt doing anything (yeah)). Every time Martins expressed (or i guess not expressed) sorrow for not being invited to it ive just sort of ignored them. this again isnt that uncommon cuz when shes sad he doesnt like to talk about it, and also they havent directly confronted me with this at all.

ive been talking about the campaign a lot because it occupies frankly a lot of my brain because i have so much to write, and i especially talk to the people that arent in it bc theres no risk of slipping up and telling them something they arent supposed to know. The other friend, Gabe, is friends with Zeke and Mark and I, and Dan is good around new people,, but Martins really quiet around people he doesnt know well, so if i invited her anyway they'd probably play the game even less than they already do.

again, im really bad at having an actual perspecitve on this. Virgil said he feels bad for Martin but not for himself, as far as i know Dan doesnt know about the situation, and i literally just dont wanna involve Mark and Zeke (Zeke HATES conflict and when people fight so he really doesnt have to be involved.) Mark Martin and I have all been really close friends since literally 7th grade and I guess Martin especially feels left out that I involved Mark and not them but Marks both really good at character creation and also talking in character, and like, hes my best friend who i do everything with.

I dont wanna blow off Martins emotions but but i truly dont give a shit that they feel betrayed by my not inviting him. especially because they havent bothered actually telling me this. objectively i dont think its my fault even a little, and Martin is really horrible at handling their emotions anyway (this isnt an insult, just a fact. i am too). aita for not inviting him + not caring that shes upset by it and acting like they arent?

How the AU’s work

Each au has four version (book style in which it falls into silver eye’s continuity, game style in which it falls into game continuity, movie style in which it falls into movie continuity, and amalgam style in which it combines all three continuity’s into one)

In xanthophobia Cassidy is the villain (William afton die’s extremely soon in the AU and for once in his life never comes back)

So in my most of my AU’s the souls are able to grow old despit not being alive which explains any shipping you might see. Most of it isn’t my doing though

Elizabeth x Nick is only cannon in golden children

Unless its Evan x Cassidy or Mike x Charlie

TF2 is cannon in the golden children au (i mostly just wanted to make fnaf 2 Jeremy TF2 Jeremy)

The golden children au takes place in the late 80s to early 90s with flash forwards towards the pizzaplex era while the shattered souls au takes place in 1991 and the malefactor malfunction shifts the entire time line to start in 2000 GMTC takes place around 1999 to 2018 xanthophobia takes place in in the 2000s and 2010s

In shattered souls Springtrap is much nicer due to him losing his murdeous tendencies after getting spring locked

malefactor malfunction is a Ben 10 fnaf crossover with Cassidy having a version of the omnitrix called kaizotrix

DND Rocks

I love DND SO SO MUCH because I started a new campaign today and as it was an impulsive ‘I wanna DM’ from my youngest bro we just used characters we like as our PCs.

So the party consists of:

Strix… (I can’t remember the rest) who has one string arm (inspired by Ginny Di) for the funnies as our rouge, Luz Noceda as our wizard/druid, King Clawthorne as our barbarian, Grian as our artificer (and since we dunno how they work and don’t have the book he’s just a wizard but instead of spells every long rest he gets one of each ‘explosive’ item, it’s TOTALYYYY balanced dw XDD), Virgil Sanders as our warlock and ‘Skeleman With Magic Powers Purple’ as our other druid.

And in this session we’ve (some highlights):

Fought a bunch of monsters (one having a attack that happens each round of you can hear it so Mary Poppins started shout-singing supercalifragalisticexpalidocius [I’m in charge of music {and notetaking} so of course I put it on loop extra loud XDD] so it didn’t effect us).

Kings (player not DM this time- he’s the ‘forever DM’ of our group [just me and my 2 bros]) made King a custom race for Sting (King and Skele are DMPCs as Sting wanted to have some PCs to help him with getting out of his comfort zone) which comes with the spell thunder wave AKA thunder-WEHH.

Convinced a giant squid in a language it doesn’t understand to not fight cuz fighting bad and now it’s our ally and Luz is controlling water to keep it alive until we find it an ocean.

And visited a tavern where:

Mary Poppins bought 10 penguins to start a band with.

Strix got a gf and bought a house for them plus bought lots of alcohol cuz there’s always gotta be an alcoholic PC.

And lastly Luz and Grian started a small bakery called ‘Grian’s Grains y Spain’ (Luz is involved bc I couldn’t afford it with only Grian’s GP so they split the cost and ownership) where they’ve employed one Amity Blight (who will start off disliking her bosses and of course end up in a relationship with Luz).

I know the argument could be made that the Sides were roleplaying Inside Out and so technically they didn't need to sound like themselves but ooh boy, I watched newest Asides and when Roman appeared I had no idea who he was supposed to be. And when Virgil showed up I literally would have not known it was him if it wasnt the eyeshadow. Like the Sides in the 2016-2020 vids all have very distinct voice inflections and word usage that helps define them as their own unique characters but the only Side whose voice felt distinct and true to themselves was Remus to a degree.

Even when they were "themselves" again, they didnt sound like themselves. It was so bizarre, it was like watching one of those AI deepfake videos.

And as much as I'd like to see the finale, I'm not sure if I want to see it with these versions of the characters. And in regards to this past year's "content" like, yeah I would've loved seeing some lighthearted filler content with the Sides several years back that were non-main series related, but this current year of Asides content has made it increasingly harder not to feel like Thomas is ready to move on creatively from SaSi, but he isn't willing to admit that to fans. Or at least be honest with fans that he wants to pursue other projects and maybe one day return to SaSi to give a finale.

In contrast to other content creators who are honest with their fans that there was a time they created "x content" and now they find it more fulfilling to create "y content", it just feels incredibly shitty for him to string fans along knowing his Sides content does more views than anything else (and im sorry but my toxic conspiracy theory is that there was a genuine spinoff series featuring Sasi!Roman but Thomas scrapped it and "refurbished" the idea to be Roleslaying and misled fans into thinking it was the spinoff sasi series because it would get the sasi fans in the door) and act passive-aggressive when fans express interest in Sasi content since he hasnt outright said anything about his feelings regarding SaSi.

Something of interest to note, Thomas was on a recent Smosh vid a few weeks back and when they did their usual spiel of "what can people expect to find you", he didnt promote Sanders Sides at all, just Roleslaying and his shorts content, which is like,,,, absolutely wild. I know Sanders Sides is on indefinite hiatus but if that doesnt show that he really wants new people who finds him to focus on his ongoing dnd series than SaSi, Idk what will.

Chant is a lovely tiefling (They/Them) created by my friend @lovelivingmydreams from her fanfic Blazing song.

I was given a full freedom to design them so their appearance is different from the story. Though I kept their main features: silver coating on antelope horns, purple skin, long braid and silver eyes

Godsides Ref Sheet

I've been working on my own version of the godsides idea (sanders sides as gods), and this is what I've got. (kudos to @thegoldenduckie for helping! I couldn't do this without you!)

This is going to be a long post, so here:

First up we've got the characters themselves! (this does include Remy and Emile, I know that they aren't sides, but I love them)

Logan

God of: intelligence, wisdom, strategy, memory, time, and space

Style: like an ethereal, noble, starcore, gay ass bitch

Age (as of Thomas): as old as the universe itself

Interests: poetry, science, mathematics, astronomy, Patton

Animal counterpart (+features): Raven, he has the wings of a raven

Patton

God of: emotion, empathy, health, animals, life, justice (morality)

Style: dad x kid core gay x that one nice librarian you met when you were five and have never seen since that one fateful afternoon but the memory of them has stuck with you forever x flowery cottagecore dresses

Age (as of Thomas): as old as there has been life on earth

Interests: baking, cooking, sewing, knitting, hanging out with the other gods (and Thomas!), gardening

Animal counterpart (+and features): dog, specifically a golden retriever, and he has the tail and ears of one (you fucking furry)

God of: fear, instinct, paranoia, anxiety, monsters, weather (especially storms)

Style: a 2005 emo, but make it fancy

Age (as of Thomas): as long as humans have been around, is our best guess

Interests: watching horror movies, baking with Patton (don’t judge, okay?), keeping up with his anonymous tumblr blog (shh, the mortals don’t know it’s him), embroidery, cosplay, shitposting

Animal counterpart (+features): spider, multiple eyes/limbs?

God of: creativity, love, passion, the arts, honor, pride

Style: pretentious fuck at a ren faire

Age (as of Thomas): since art could be found (wow, so fancy you flamboyant little shit)

Interests: acting, poetry, writing, cosplaying with Virgil, dnd, fashion design/putting together outfits, pottery, photography, fencing

Animal counterpart (+features): lion, has a tail, ears, mane like hair?

Janus

God of: deception/deceit, puzzles, riddles, tricks, theatre, outcasts

Style: Victorian-era conman outlaw (now with added capes!)

Age (as of Thomas): since the first lie fell from a human’s mouth

Interests: fucking with the other gods, chess, gardening, witchcraft, winetasting, turning into a snake at zoos to freak out mortals (remus is with him obvi)

Animal counterpart (+features): snake, has his lil scalies, snek tongue, and eye.

Remus

God of: creativity, sex, the abandoned, chaos, mischeif

Style: fancy, alternative, androgynous, grunge

Age (as of Thomas): same as Roman (they’re twins, what’d you expect)

Interests: fucking with other the gods and mortals (but different), pole dancing, cooking/baking, solving cold cases from decades ago because he can, acting, drawing, painting

Animal counterpart (+features): octopus… (please help, what features should he have?)

Remy

God of: sleep, night, dreams (kinda)

Style: he looks like the vines and only that. No joke this god came into existence thirty minutes late with a Starbucks in hand

Age (as of Thomas); the first time someone slept ig???

Interests: going for walks/drives, stargazing, listening to podcasts, chatting, drinking coffee, talking with Emile

Animal counterpart (+features): raccoon, he’s got the bags under the eyes, but he chooses not to have any other features, and those are just cause he’s an insomniac

Emile

God of: the mind, illustrative arts, language

Style: similar to Patton’s, but a bit more masculine(?)

Age (as of Thomas): since humans evolved their mind enough to speak words everyone knew

Interests: watching cartoons, animation, pet care, crocheting,

Animal counterpart (+features): ram, he has horns!

Thomas himself is a mortal in this, but the gods have chosen someone to speak through every lifetime, and they chose Thomas. He's honestly pretty much the same as he is in the videos, though.

Ships include: Logicality (kinda going to be the focus), probably prinxiety and dukeceit, but there might be a bit of princeit. Logan acts as the "main character" seeing as he'll be around the longest, but all of them will be a focus.

That's most of what I've got for now, but I'll keep you updated as things progress.

Because my two biggest special interests rn are The Mountain Goats and Ride The Cyclone, here's what I think the rtc characters favorite Mountain Goats album(s) are:

Ocean: The Sunset Tree- seems happy and nice and stuff but at the same time is absolutely not and needs therapy

Noel: Goths, Zopilote Machine- homosexual yearning.

Ricky: In League With Dragons- funky music for dnd players and gays alike

Mischa: All Hail West Texas, Bleed Out, Getting Into Knives- the first and last ones because he is the saddest thing known to man and then the second one because I think he would enjoy a soundtrack for a fake action movie

Constance: Beat The Champ- she would love Foreign Object. that is all.

Jane: We Shall All Be Healed- she deserves to be healed. (also ik its not on this album but she would love Picture Of My Dress)

Virgil: Beautiful Rat Sunset- I just wanted to make that joke

what's your favorite thing to write? what's your favorite part of the writing process? your least favorite?

what other fandoms, besides the ones you've written, would you want to write for in the future? If you were forced to write something about a fandom you knew very little about (let's say you get a summary of the plot and characters, plus whatever you might've absorbed via fandom posts from your mutuals), what fandom do you think you'd have the most luck with and why?

if you create OCs, what's your favorite OC that you've created? have you created any villain OCs? do you prefer Gen fics or romantic fics (both to read and to write)? who's your favorite comfort character? who's a character that probably shouldn't be comforting, but is anyway? who's a character that other people seem to love, but you just don't get the hype?

20 questions 🤣🤣🤣 ok:

1) my favorite thing to write is also my favorite thing to read! Hurt/Comfort!!!!!

2) Most favorite part - Daydreaming about the characters/storyline while pretending to be mentally present at work!

3) Least favorite part - Making the words go 😢

4) I usually write what I know best at any moment - I've been eyeing some of the art/fic in the FNAF fandom lately but just kinda dipping my hands in, not really ready to dive in. I just love my Sanders Boys, ya know?

5) I think I could BS something from one of the classic animes, like Death Note or Naruto. I did watch Ouran Highschool Host Club and a few other sillier animes but my fandom experiences with those ended at looking at fanart. ((Wait, can Pokemon count? Can I do Pokemon? I know some Pokemon 👀👀👀))

6) my OC's are my DND characters and by far my favorite is Ink of Dreams, my cat-person thief 😍😍. Also Thistle, who isn't really an OC so much as my OC's pet 😅😅😅 If anything I guess HE would be my "favorite" because I talk about him all the time and he's in three dnd campaigns and I had a plushie made and I'm trying to have a movable puppet made...

7) RN I have a villain OC for a WIP I'm working on (read: poking with a stick like a dead animal) and I do enjoy writing her very much. She is an agent of chaos and I hate her so much, it's great 💜 I don't have a lot of experience doing the just straight up ridiculously depraved, but writing her is also giving me practice for writing future LRH adjacent fics involving Gabriel 👀👀👀

8) uuuuhhhhhh I like cuddles 😅😅😅😅 I'm fine with both, just not big on smut. I think I'm a little bit romantically starved tbh because sometimes I pull up a comfort fic that I know is gonna make me cry because I just kinda *need* to cry if that makes sense? I'm asexual and finding a romantic partner is hard 🥲 But anyway yeah I'm fine with both! RN I'm on a baby fic kick so send me babies 💜💜

9) My current comfort character is Patton from Sanders Sides, and no one is surprised. 😅 I just vibe with him a lot because in also a very emotionally-open and emotionally-invested person, I tend to be a caretaker and I like to be prepared in case someone around me needs help. And RN with fandom drama especially, I just feel connected with Patton. I also experienced a period of my life where I tried to help but made some mistakes and then was demonized and called an abuser, manipulative, gaslighter, horrible person and then I found out I was autistic so the things I was doing (like leaving a party to sit outside and decompress when I was overwhelmed and crying) weren't as common-sense and understood as I thought (aka said behavior was called me going off and crying to isolate people and make them come take care of me) ANYWAY. It's kinda funny because I've always bounced between Patton and Virgil for TS; it was mostly Virgil at first and then I had a gap where Good Omens took over, and then it was back to TS but now more vibing with Patton

10) I can't really think of a comfort character that would be considered "not good" besides like. The characters I call my "Anime Boyfriends", Jake English and Dirk Strider from Homestuck, but that's more because like,,, the creator of Homestuck kinda uses a *lot* of slurs,,,, but also I only read like 1/4 of the whole comic,,,, and I go off of fanon interpretations,,,, from ask blogs c2012,,, so.........

11) I do not understand the obsession with Janus and Remus. I'm gonna admit - I don't like them in canon. At all. I am ok with most fanon interpretations, but I just don't like them. I like the "Core Four" (Logan, Virgil, Patton, Roman) and that's it. And I do NOT look forward to the "orange side". And to be 100%, I get frustrated because I want to read poly fic of just the core four and so many people are tossing Janus and Remus in the mix and I just want to find the ones that don't and it takes *forever* to filter out all of the different variants of ships. 🥲 obv I'm not going to tell anyone else to stop enjoying their ships and characters, but I'm not gonna go searching for the stuff that I don't enjoy, either.
