BNHA Soulmate AU Week Day 1: The Ticking Clock
Tumblr media
(GIF credit to its owner!! :) )
Bakugou Katsuki x Reader
Word Count: 2,726 (haha oops)
A/N: Here we are, kicking off the first day of my BNHA Soulmate AU Week!! Today’s fic is a timer fic, where a timer on your wrist counts down the time until you meet your soulmate! Poor reader has a clock that has been on zero since before they can remember, meaning they may never know who their soulmate is. I had a crap ton of fun writing this (a lot more than I probably should have haha), and I hope you guys like it! Remember, I’m taking soulmate au headcannon and imagine requests for BNHA characters in addition to the 6 other fics I have planned this week! So stay tuned, tomorrow we have a red string au with Tamaki coming! If you want to be added to this week’s taglist, or have a request, let me know! Thanks for reading! :))
Masterlist
In a world filled with hope, you had learned to give up on love a long time ago.
While the rest of the world sat on the edge of their seat, waiting for the timer to hit zero, ready for the rest of their lives to begin with the one they were meant to love, you tried your best to ignore the clock on your wrist.
For while Mina had confided in you that hers was down to under a year, and Momo complained that hers was still just under a decade, you could never relate to the anticipation of the clock running out, of the first meeting of your one true love. Cause yours, for as long as you could remember, had always been zero.
As you got ready to hang out with your friends, changing from your school clothes to something casual, you tied a little scarf around your right wrist.
Most people covered their timers, no matter how exciting they found them. At school, the long cuffs of your uniforms covered up the ticking clock, but on your own time, you could get creative. You knew others who wore sweatbands or bandanas, hair ties or bracelets. But tonight, the small scarf covered your greatest disappointment pretty well.
By the time you were old enough to understand the concept of soulmates, you asked your parents who yours was, if you had already met them. Since you couldn’t remember, they should have then, and for many years of your life, you found yourself blaming them for denying you this part of your life.
But they had been just as upset as you. They had tried so hard, they told you. Tried to keep an eye out for you when the timer was getting close to running out. According to their story, they had taken you to the park, and about three minutes were left when you ran off, slipping out of their grasp.
When ten minutes passed, they were so freaked they nearly called the police. But you came running back to them, arms open wide, and no matter how much they pestered you, they couldn’t figure out where you had gone, or who you had happened to meet.
For a few years, you tried your hardest to remember that day in the park, but you didn’t even remember a park, much less a person you met there. You had been two, three maybe, and you simply couldn’t form the memories.
And you had theories, ones that involved a hopeful future, a future where you actually found the person you were meant to be with. Your two best friends, Midoriya and Bakugou, you had met before you could remember, and when you were younger, before you lost all hope, you liked to fantasize about finding out it had been one of them all along.
But you knew better than that, and like everyone else, their marks were always hidden when you saw them. Soulmates were never something you guys talked about, and by the time you were off to middle school, you learned to give up on that fantasy.
Your soulmate was out there somewhere, but you’d never know who they were.
Fixing your hair quickly, you rushed out the door. You were meeting Bakugou in his room, and he hated it when you were late.
As you waltzed into his dormitory, opening the door without knocking, you could tell by the look on his face that you hadn’t made it in time.
“Haven’t I told you to never be late when you make plans with me?” Bakugou growled, his body nearly sparking with anger.
“Oops,” you said, not sounding apologetic at all, and hopped onto his bed. “Excited for movie night?”
Bakugou rolled his eyes, crossing his arms over his chest stubbornly. “You’re lucky you’re getting a movie night at all.”
“I’m going to take that as a yes.” You grinned. “Would it be okay if I could invite Izu?” you asked, putting on your best puppy dog face. You pouted your lip as he looked at you, scowling at your expression.
“I’m not watching a movie with that nerd,” Bakugou scoffed, making you pout harder.
“Please?”
“Tch.” You could tell he was wavering, but by the dangerous look on his face, you could tell he wasn’t very happy about it.
“Yay!” you exclaimed before he even said yes. “I think he’s going to bring Uraraka too!” You jumped on the boy, hugging him tightly.
He shoved you off of him roughly, and you fell back on the bed. “You already invited them!”
You giggled sheepishly. “But you still agreed to it, so everyone wins either way!”
Bakugou rubbed his forehead, clearly frustrated. “Fine, but I’m inviting Kirishima.”
“Yay! A party!”
“It’s not a party, dumbass,” he said, but he still reached out for your hands, helping you up from the bed.
“I’ll go pick out a movie!” You went over to a shelf in Bakugou’s room, where he kept a collection of some of his favorite DVDs.
As you looked through the movies, you kept stealing a glance in Bakugou’s direction. He was getting the TV ready, getting blankets and pillows out for the others that were coming to join you. You knew he didn’t like hugs very much, and you hoped you hadn’t upset him by hugging him earlier. But despite how often Bakugou reminded you verbally how your touches made him angry, he always had let you hug him, squeeze his arm, or rest your head on his shoulder.
You never really were an overly touchy person, and it wasn’t common to find people who weren’t soulmates hugging each other or being overly affectionate, so you never really knew why you had been with Bakugou. When you were around your other friends, you tried to hold back, though, worried they’d find your friendly affection to be inappropriate.
“Oi!” the boy you were thinking about suddenly shouted, breaking you out of your thoughts. “Don’t you have a job to do? Quit staring!”
Your cheeks heating up in embarrassment, you turned back to the DVDs, refusing to say anything.
Luckily, there was a knock at the door just then, and Bakugou left to go let the others in. Izuku, Uraraka, and Kirishima came into the room, each giving you a cheerful wave as they settled in. You quickly fished out one of the films on the shelf and leapt up to welcome them.
As you handed your pick to Bakugou, he gave the smallest of smiles in approval, causing your heart to leap in your chest.
“Hi Izu! Uraraka, Kirishima!” you greeted, smiling brightly. The others smiled in return, the smallest sending you the biggest grin and a little wave of his own. When you noticed his arm was bandaged, you poked it with curiosity. “Izuku, what did you do to your arm?”
Deku scratched the back of his neck sheepishly. “I broke it again during training.”
You sighed, but had no words for your tiny friend. You knew nothing you could say would stop it from happening again at the next training session, and then again at the one after that. (Trust me, you had tried. Often).
After Bakugou chastised Deku for hurting himself (in his own, heartwarming violent way), everyone settled into their positions for movie watching. You found yourself squished between Bakugou and Kirishima on the bed, with your backs against the far wall, while Izuku and Uraraka shared a blanket on the floor, their backs resting on the side of Bakugou’s bed, just below your feet.
During the movie, Bakugou’s eyes were glued on the screen. You had made a good choice, and you could tell by the peaceful expression on his face (one that was all too rare) that your friend was enjoying himself.
You, on the other hand, couldn’t focus on the movie in front of you. You spent too much time thinking about the boy beside you. And when, about halfway through the movie, Kirishima’s bandana around his wrist shifted, and you could see the clock ticking down, you lost any hope of concentration.
Cause no matter how long you had spent knowing there was no hope, it hurt so bad to be reminded of it, especially when Bakugou’s shoulder was glued to yours, the warmth of his arm comforting, but a constant reminder of what you would never have.
No matter how much you knew you should move away, you couldn’t bring yourself to, and instead, leaned into his touch even more. He was so warm, and for once he was still, and…
~
You woke to someone poking your face. “Hey,” you mumbled, struggling to open your eyes to what was around you.
When you did, you realized you were still in Bakugou’s room, which was still empty, except for the blond boy, whose shoulder you were currently rested on.
“Sorry,” you said, laughing lightly as you lifted your head. “Did everyone leave already?” you asked, moving away from your friend and laying your head down on one of the pillows, stretching your legs out the length of the bed. You yawned, closing your eyes again, giving in to the struggle of trying to keep them open.
“What, did you hate the movie or something?” he grumbled. You could feel his eyes on you even with yours closed.
“I’m sorry Suki,” you said softly. “I’m just tired.” You yawned again, proving your point.
“If you’re tired, you need to go back to your dorm.” He shoved your arm, but not hard enough to send you tumbling over the edge of the bed. You were grateful; it wasn’t as if he hadn’t done that before.
“But I’m too tired,” you whined, snuggling even more into his pillow. When Bakugou let out a defeated sigh, you knew he wasn’t moving you anytime soon. He plopped himself down in the bed too, about a foot away from you, facing away from you at the wall his bed was up against.
“If you keep me awake…” he warned, and you laughed in response.
A few more moments, and you realized you were now wide awake, staring at the ceiling as you listened to the breathing of your friend beside you. You thought he might have fallen asleep, but then you heard a heavy sigh next to you.
“Suki?” you said softly, poking his back lightly as you turned to face him. But he didn’t turn around.
“I didn’t want to watch a movie tonight with all those extras,” he grumbled.
You giggled softly. “They’re not extras. They’re our friends.”
“I wanted to watch a movie tonight with you.”
Your smile faded, and you pulled your hand away from his back. He was still facing the wall, and you desperately wanted to see his face, to see what he was thinking right now. “Kat-”
“But you’re not my soulmate.”
And in that moment you knew what he felt about you, and he knew that you felt the same way. But there was nothing you could do about it, the frozen clock on your wrist and the ticking clock on his proof of that. His words were permanent, and you realized then that any fantasy you had ever dreamed of was simply that. A fantasy. He was not your soulmate.
“It’s not fair,” you choked, clutching the back of his shirt as you rested your forehead on his back. You knew you would never have anything like this, and the thought that one day, he would find his true soulmate and he’d leave you behind, alone to deal with the fact that you would never have one of your own, left you trembling against him. “It’s not fair.”
You laid like that until you fell asleep, you sobbing against his back and him using all of the power within him not to turn around and pull you into his arms.
~
When you woke up, you couldn’t move.
You wiggled a bit, but you were locked tightly in place by a pair of arms that were most certainly not your own. Your eyes opened wide as you realized who you were snuggled up against, your head on his chest, his arms wrapped around you, and your legs tangled together at the end of the bed.
“Katsuki?” you asked, lifting your head to look up at your friend’s face just above you. Your struggling had woken him up, and he was blinking his eyes as he noticed your position on the bed.
He groaned when he met your eyes, rolling over as he attempted to untangle himself from you. He was still tired, and you guessed that was why he was groaning instead of yelling, but you were happy about it all the same.
You laid your back down on the bed as he pulled his arm out from under you, trying to calm your racing heart. Your cheeks were on fire, and as you finally found the courage to sit up, you couldn’t look your friend in the eyes.
Instead, you looked down at his hands. But his right arm, which he had just pulled out from under you, was missing something you had never seen Bakugou without. His bracelet, his leather band he never went without.
It was a cruel trick, to show you your friend’s tattoo for the first time after you had spent the night cuddling and admitting your feelings. Except, as you read the tattoo, your heart stopped beating in your chest.
0 years, 0 days, 0 hours, 0 minutes, 0 seconds
“Katsuki!” you gasped, grabbing his wrist. “Your timer!”
But Bakugou yanked his hand from your grasp roughly. “You don’t need to remind me!” he yelled, making you realize that he wasn’t too tired to scream. He shoved you away as you reached out again, and sent you nearly off the bed.
“But-”
“What happened last night was nothing,” he said, already shutting down. “I’ll never know my soulmate, and you’ll go and find yours and none of this will matter. Just leave me alone, already! It hurts enough to think I’ll never get what everyone else has. I don’t need to be thinking about the fact that you belong to someone else!”
“Katsuki, look!” you finally yelled back, untying your scarf and shoving your wrist in his face. He froze as he saw the frozen timer on your wrist, identical to his.
“What?” he breathed, his own hand trembling as he looked again at his wrist.
“I was too young to remember my timer running out,” you told him. “I met my soulmate when I was a baby, I’d always thought it was someone I’d never know…” you trailed off, looking up at him, meeting his crimson eyes.
But Bakugou had no words, and he stared at you in shock as you realized that you had never had to look far for the person you were meant to spend your life with. You were looking right at him, and no fantasy could compare to the way your heart soared at the thought.
He was suddenly on you, latching his lips to yours frantically, his arms secured around your waist. Before you toppled backwards off the edge, he leaned back, pulling you with him by the hips, until you were on top of him, his back leaning against the bed.
You sighed into the kiss, tears of relief streaming down your face and onto Bakugou’s beneath you. Your hands were on his face, and threaded in his hair, and his were wrapping tighter around your back, pulling you as close as he could.
The kiss was everything, every hope you each had spent years locking away. And when you finally broke for air, you buried your face in his neck, hugging him as tight as you could manage. His arms squeeze you as he held you on top of him, and you let yourself sob freely into his neck.
“Why the hell are you crying?” he asked, peppering kisses on your hair, your ear, your shoulder.
You pulled up, looking down on him with a smile on your face. “I’m just so happy.” You have no idea, you almost said, but as Bakugou gave you a smile of his own, reaching up to give you one more peck, you knew he did, one hundred percent. “I’m just so happy it’s you.”

BNHA: something sad (Grief)
Summary: The last time Katsuki sees Izuku alive the other boy is rushing to save him. A ‘the Sludge Villain incident gone wrong’ AU.
Characters:  Katsuki Bakugo
Fandom: My Hero Academia
WARNINGS: Major Character death, swearing, heavy angst. destructive behaviour.
(Additional part here)
..
(Grief- Katsuki self reflects and visits Izuku’s grave)
Katsuki knows he has a volatile personality, probably inherited it from his mum, and enough attitude that he has steamrolled his way through life without much difficulty. Things annoyed him easily and he got irritable at the drop of a hat. He has enough self-awareness to recognise that as a flaw, even if he had never seen it as much of a problem.
There was a difference between irritation and anger. Deku had always made him angry, inducing a burning hot sensation that ate at his insides. Now Deku was gone and he couldn't turn any of it off. It was like the world was suck behind a filthy pane of glass that he couldn’t smash through no matter how hard he tried.
Katsuki watches the head of his Kamui Woods figurine bend at an odd angle as the plastic began to superheat, having been exposed to a string of minor blasts. He had been slowly working his way through his figurine collection as both quirk training and to take the edge off his anger. Melting this figurine was particularly cathartic.
“Perhaps we should look into getting you some new hobbies.”
Katsuki shifts his focus to glare at his father who stands at his bedroom door, an expression of worry pulling at his features. No surprises there, worry was his father’s default response to anything Katsuki did these days.
 “Not interested.”
“Something to get you out of the apartment,” his father continues to which  Katsuki narrows his eyes. He wouldn’t be in the apartment if he had any say in it. Both his parents know this.
“Some physical activity where you’ll be able to let loose without having to worry about property damage. I have a colleague whose brother runs a kickboxing studio. I can make arrangements for you to spend time…”
“I said, I’m not interested,” he grumbles, returning to his current distraction.
“Well, I want you to think about it,” his dad instructs, “It would do you a lot of good and it’s something you’re passionate about….”
The figurine Katsuki is holding begins to blacken, colours melting away under his tiny, controlled bursts. There is an unhappy sigh from his father and the sound of footsteps retreating down the hall. He growls and the figurine explodes with a small Bang. Melted plastic is flung across his walls and floor.
He knows what his dad is trying to do…
How many times had he begged his parents for better training opportunities, for karate or boxing lessons, only to be denied due to money restraints? Outside of a few judo lessons he had received as a birthday gift from Inko one year, any combat training he did he had been self-taught.
Now he’s no longer interested, his parents are practically threatening him with extracurricular activities.
It’s fucking annoying is what it is.
He reaches for another figurine only to find that he has none left aside from his limited edition All Might collection.  He lets out an angry breath, trying to rid himself of his restless irritation. It doesn’t work, and he ends up standing so he can pace back and forth, listening to the pop, pop, focusing on his tingling skin as sparks run up and down his arms. It keeps him distracted for all of two seconds.
Usually, he would be at the library studying, or going on long runs and working on his physical conditioning. Sometimes, he would meet up with a few of the loser-extras from school and they would visit an arcade. Recently, he had taken to wandering through the streets around his neighbourhood, waiting for something to piss him off enough that his mind would white-out in pure rage and could forget reality for a few seconds. Obviously, that had become a lot harder after several run-ins with the local police had had him all but permanently grounded outside of school hours.
This is what he wanted… he remains himself. His plan to piss people off enough that he received some iota of punishment was working like a charm so, of course, it sucked. He hated it, but then, he hated all the alternatives as well so what did any of it matter.
Katsuki ends up with his ear pressed against the door, listening for activity in the living room, waiting for an opportunity to make a break for it. He needs to be careful because Aunt Inko is visiting and the last thing he wants is to see her stupid, sympathetic smile.
When it sounds like the coast is clear, he creeps out, stealing down the hall. Muffled voices from the kitchen are all the encouragement he needs to beeline for the door and slip out before anyone can spot him. He’ll be in trouble for this later. He’s counting on it.
The hot summer air is a welcome change from the chill of air conditioning. There is the loud buzz of cicadas, chirping away in the sticky heat. He picks a direction and walks, not caring that he is wearing the sweatpants and the black singlet he had slept in. If someone has a problem with his presentation, he is more than willing to throw down.
Unfortunately, the relief being out of the apartment brings is short-lived. Today, a feeling of discomfort follows after him which has nothing to do with the heat. A bubbling frustration that bites at his heels as he stalks the streets. It is that feeling he has come to associate with times when all his rage burns away, leaving him numb.
He doesn’t plan to stop at the florists, he just sort of does.
He turns suddenly into the store before he can properly process what he is doing. The chime on the glass door rings and the sickly-sweet smell of the store has his nose wrinkling. Before he can chicken out and retreat, he walks to the counter.
“How much?” He snaps at the older lady in overalls manning the register, pointing at the nearest bunch of white flowers. He has no idea what type they are but that wasn’t the point wasn't it?
“Ah,” The woman squints at him, taken back “That depends how many you want?”
“I don’t care” He smacks the few yen he has on the counter, “However many that’ll get me. Don’t rip me off.”
The woman nods slowly, “Do you just want these specifically? You don’t want to add some more colour to the bouquet? White is a bit of a dower colour.”
“Whatever is cheapest…just make it quick.” He is already regretting coming in.
The woman hums, pulling out a roll of paper, beginning to place and wrap the flowers Katsuki had pointed to.
“Who are they for if I may ask?”
“No.”
“Oh? A special friend maybe,” She begins to tease.
“He’s dead,” he snaps abruptly, “and he’s not my friend. Just give me the damn flowers.” Why did people always make this shit more difficult than it needed to be?
The old hag is silent after that, awkwardly finalising his purchase which ends up being an assortment of white flowers with a few smaller yellow and red ones scattered between. It almost looks pretty and it is sickly-sweet smelling, just like the store.
He tries no to think about his destination as he walks with renewed deliberation. He doesn’t think about it right up until he is practically walking into the low stone wall nearest the gate. The shock of seeing the place has him freezing in place, breath catching. The last time he had been here had been during the funeral.
There are lines of thin, tightly packed, gave markers, rising horizontally on sets on uneven steps. There is barely room for people to pass between them on the narrow, flagstone path. Trees are scattered throughout the space, providing patches of uneven shade. The noise of the cicadas is louder here, almost oppressive in its throbbing hum.  For a moment, all he wants to do is walk up to the nearest stone and blow it all sky high. Then he would be sure to flatten every marker in the place until the land was a barren waste. That would get him arrested for sure. The thought passes quickly, and his eyes slide away from the cemetery to his flowers. They don’t look nearly as nice now he has almost strangled them with an unintentionally tight grip.
He breaths out, resisting the urge to set something on fire. Slowly, he walks up the steps, passing the small temple at the entrance. Deku is buried further in, his stone modest in size when compared to the others.
“Deku…” He grows out a greeting when he arrives and it gets caught in his throat. The stone, obviously, does not respond.
Before he can accidentally blow them up, he carefully places the flowers next to the small pile already adorning the small stone. There are more offerings than he expects to be there. He recognises a few of the names from school. One larger bunch looks especially expensive and elaborate, monopolising most of the limited surface space.
‘From Yagi Toshinori’ the card attached reads. Katsuki doesn’t recognise the name.
He doesn’t know why he’s surprised, he didn’t know shit about Deku other than their shared ambition to be a hero.
“Deku…” Why the fuck is he having trouble talking, “You’re...” He stops.
“You’re a fucking moron,” he manages to spit.
“I didn’t need you to save me.” The anger is burning so hot that its almost unbearable. Pop, pop, his hands fizzle. “I didn’t want your help.”
BANG! He makes sure the explosion is directed away from the stone and up into the sky. The small shock wave it produces rustles the flowers and nearby trees. All the cicadas stop chirping at once, plunging the area into an eerie quiet. His legs feel shaky and he is practically vibrating with anger.
“What did you think a quirkless idiot could have done!”
Save his pathetic life while the real Heroes watch him suffocate from the side-lines? His brain supplies an answer. It was all a big joke wasn’t it? The bastards had all watched Deku die. That was what a Hero did apparently, wait for backup while someone died because it was safer for them. Safer for the Hero.
His legs give way and he falls to his knees, curling his hands into fists, jaw locking up. Finally, the haze of anger falls away and his mind quietens. Everything was painfully clear now. People didn’t care when Katsuki yelled, swore, and hurt other kids, because his quirk was amazing, making him amazing. What a joke. If he hadn’t had his quirk, then the Slime Bastard would have had nothing to work with, and Deku might still be alive.
“I’m…I’m fucking sorry okay." He had always treated Deku like shit and he doesn’t think, if their positions had been reversed…he doesn’t think that he would have even thought about saving someone like himself.
The truth stings. He slams his fist into the flagstone next to him and he watches it crack.
"I’m sorry…”
He was lucky…that’s all he was… He wasn’t special… he was just an average human with a good work ethic and a garbage personality who just happened to have a powerful quirk.
He wasn’t a hero…well, not one like Deku had tried to be…like Deku had been…
He didn’t even want to be a hero...not anymore...He doesn’t know what he wants.
“Damnit…” the words have no heat behind them. The explosive rage that had been burning continuously in his chest for the last week simmers, snuffing out like a candle. There is a hole where his anger had eaten away at something fundamentally him, leaving empty space.
Katsuki leans forward, letting his head thump against the stone.

1, 8 for the writing asks?
1) Tell us about your current project(s)  – what’s it about, how’s progress, what do you love most about it?
okay so ig i have four current projects rn? technically more but i only really count em if i plan on posting the wip soon or they're chaptered fics ig 🤷‍♀️ if its apart of a series of mine then really i dont call it current unless ive already started a draft for the next part, i sideline my series' constantly bc most of the fics are fine to read by themselves anyways uhmmm lol moving on, a mini run down of my current projects:
mellodramattic fic: chaptered piece about mello and matt's relationship thru the years, probably gonna turn it into a series once i finish the main piece bc there's definetly ideas i wanna include that I probably cant in the main story. progress on it is fine ig, I have the next chapter mostly drafted (by hand, i need to type it still) i just update really slow bc it's an old hyperfixation of mine so i really only get bursts of motivation for it every like 3-5 months, sometimes longer. i just really enjoy writing this one bc i can basically make up whatever i want about the characters bc there is very little actual canon material for them and, as a matt kinnie, i have a very specific vision of their lives that ive always wanted to e riu te about and i finally started doing that with this fic. there's a few chapters on ao3 rn, but they arent stellar bc it's old writing lmao. ill link it (and any of these other fics i mention) if anyone asks
bnha chat fic: a mess, has 16 chapters rn, it's a lot of chaos ft a side of me projecting. it has slow updates now bc im out of my bnha hyperfixation, but i still love writing this fic, even if i regret some of my past writing decisions with it. next 2 chapters are half drafted, but idk when ill actually get em out. it's been 8 months since i last updated anyways, so whatever. one of the chapters is chat, the other is actual writing bc ig this fic is technically like a combination of chat and regular fic, but it's mostly chat so 🤷‍♀️
karlnapity wip: i started this fic 6 months ago and just recently started working on it again?? i plan to upload it in the near future but also idk if that will actually happen bc im not actually invested in either karl or sapnaps lore which makes me very uninvested in writing this fic lmao. the wip is kinda banger tho imo, very angsty but it has comfort so its okay.
it chat fic: i know vaguely what i wanna do with the next chapter but i havent uploaded for this bitch in so long its criminal. it's literally just a modern au losers club chat fic, everybody's gay, streddie are in love and that's really the only reason im writing it, plus i made stozier have tiktok clout which i think is too funny of an idea to drop, sue me. also it's a stranger things crossover, but only bc i wanted to make richie and mike twins bc i read a different crossover fic that did the same thing right before writing this and i was brainrotting the fic too hard not to include this twin shit in my own. im unoriginal, what can i say.
8) Is what you like to write the same as what you like to read?
generally, yes, though i think i write more angst than i tend to read? i wouldnt call myself an angst writer at all, but i tend to project and i really like writing emotional spirals or trauma related stuff bc ooooh coping mechanisms babey but it's always paired with comfort whether its immediate or eventual. i also write more chat fics than i read, mostly bc it's a good way for me to write about a hyperfixation without actually having to have good ideas or be very dedicated to the piece, especially bc i hate not finishing chaptered fics, but i tend to do it a lot when i lose a hyperfixation (for example, i have had a 1/? fic in my works for like a year, maybe two, now all bc i stopped hyperfixating on bnha like a week or two after that, and bc it was Real Writing i havent had the energy to update it, meanwhile ive updated the bnha chat fic a few times since losing that hyperfixation bc it's very low effort content) idk i think most of it's the same typa content in the end tho

Tagged by @pidgeonpostal! And not tagging anyone else because I have SOILED the original template (soiled it!!) in deference to my [brushes off skirt] mostly clean public-facing appearance.
...I’ve been making a lot of Spongebob memes lately for someone who has not seen Spongebob.
How many works do you have on AO3?
71!
What’s your total AO3 wordcount?
...306,834. Jesus.
How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
Uh. Many! I do a lot of one-offs (and/or start long things I never finish) in many different places. My top three fandoms by fics written are RWBY (29), Undertale (25), Gravity Falls/Transcendence AU (4).
Bet you can’t tell where my hyperfixations have fallen.
I’ve also got some Pokémon and Sonic the Hedgehog fics back on my ff.net account, or I think I still do, anyway, but let’s never go back there pls
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
1. Sweeter Than Honey (Undertale): Taking a Completely unsurprising first place, with over 600 more kudos than the runner-up, the haphazard Underswap fic featuring a post-college self-insert I wrote just after high school! I shake my head some at how overblown and ridiculous the gap between this and all my other stuff is (c’mon, guys, I’ve written way better fics), but this is also the fic which prompted me (and at least one other person!) to start using they/them pronouns. I’ve gotten a lot of really sweet comments about how seen and appreciated it’s made people feel, so I can’t get down too far about it.
2. To Be A Hero (BNHA): I don’t count myself as part of the BNHA fandom, for a number of reasons, but for something that’s arguably the main motivation for the entire plot, Midoriya’s quirklessness is something I’ve never thought has been handled well. This fic marked the first time I (somewhat tentatively) claimed the disability label (thanks again to Sweeter Than for prompting that realization) to hold that lens over canon. It also really shot up my chart, dang! It’s the only thing here I’d consider “recent.”
3. Three-Sentence Shipping (Undertale): Self-explanatory.
4. Brothers Beyond Bonedaries (Undertale): Ah, the way-overcomplicated AU³ I got nowhere close to finishing. One of the things I really like about Undertale is the interface screw, how Toby Fox uses the medium of the video game to pull off crazy things and enhance his game, but most of the fic written for the fandom seems dedicated to explaining it away, grounding it, rather than taking it to the next step and messing with the medium of fanfiction when you keep the story going. I tried to do something cool like that here, playing with questions like narrator and authorship and breaking the fourth wall, even taking the “final boss” fight to a “totally separate” fic reached through the first by link – but, well, then I never finished it, which probably didn’t make anything less confusing for the poor folks who missed the intent.
5. Spirit and Such (Gravity Falls: Transcendence AU): A whole fic written to line out a particular image I had, which, naturally, never made it to the page. I consider it a bit of a cautionary tale for myself when it comes to writing (near-)original content; there’s a lot I look back on and cringe. I still love the characters, though – well, the important ones – and I think just stepping away from the tried-and-true Mizar formula nets it a star sticker here.
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
>w>; I try, but a lot of the time I just don’t have anything to say? Like, oh, you liked it? Neat. There’s not much to respond to in comments like that, and then I’m weighing falling down on an ~obligation~ to respond to every message in my inbox vs annoying people with copy-paste fluff responses all down the page. Plus I know I make more of an effort to comment on things that didn’t get the attention I feel they deserve, so if I’m driving up my own comment count with nonsense, am I preventing myself from being in a position to receive more comments later? And then if I do comment, am I being too effusive or running people’s ears off explaining things they don’t actually need to know? Sometimes people just want to express interest or admiration and don’t necessarily want a whole peek and guided tour behind the curtain.
Can you tell I have anxiety? x3;
Anyway, I do respond when I can. And I keep most of the comments I’ve gotten to go back and reread.
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Hm, hmm. Lots of stuff in the TQ Nonsense series would probably qualify! I’m thinking of Unfixable, Wolfsong, and Ethanol. And there’s Bursting Through A Blood-Red Sky (I Can Live, I Can Breathe), of course, but that was always intended to have a fix-it epilogue. It’s just that I wrote it in a couple of hours day-of, stared at it, and decided I didn’t wanna just then. But now that’s As Long As You’re Still Burning Bright (I’m Still Awake), and that’s probably the best romance I’ve written, so that one worked out.
Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve ever written?
Now and then! When the urge strikes. Uhhh, I’ve got a series of Doctor Who x Undertale crossovers I actually made a whole dang verse for that never made it to print. Get a couple great comments on that every few months or so. I think the World Trigger x Undertale crossover is probably weirder, though, by virtue of WT being a very small fandom. My enthusiasm kinda sputtered out on that one.
Mostly I just daydream crossovers with whatever happens to catch my eye at any given moment. I have a lot!!!! Though odds are out on whether I manage to remember any of them once the initial thought’s passed, lol.
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Gotten a couple eyebrow-raising comments, but I think mostly I’m just too small a writer to draw that kind of attention.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don’t? think so? Think my tastes are a little niche for most people to bother ^^;
Have you ever had a fic translated?
I had someone apologize once for any language mistakes in their comment cause they had to run it through a translator! That’s not what you asked (the answer is no), but it’s very flattering to think that someone liked my fic enough to read and comment despite the language barrier.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes! :D @pidgeonpostal was gracious enough to agree to co-write Five Nights at Denny’s with me off an idea about shoes. This has fulfilled a long-held dream of mine (collabing with someone, not the shoes) and also introduced me to some lovely people.
What’s your all time favorite ship?
Who has time for just one? ;3c Honestly, I care more about the characters and how the relationship – any relationship – between them changes them than I do about ~A Ship~ as a solid, bounded noun-object. I’ve got characters I like more and less and feelings about who does and doesn’t have chemistry in which directions with whom, but finding anything that agrees with those preferences is hard, harder when you take alloromanticism into account. I’ll play in any sandbox with cool toys, especially if other folks have already built sick sandcastles there.
What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
[kicks every single unfinished fic further under the bed] What nooo no WIPs here, everything on my account is either finished or does not exist
I’ve got a couple extra chapters of Sweeter Than floating around unposted, but 1. that fic’s a mess 2. high school Twixt and post-college Twixt are different people and trying to contort myself into three other me-shapes just cause people Like this fic is not something I’m super interested in 3. it’s headed for an emotional dip and I’d rather leave it where it is than post two chapters, stall out again, and leave folks with a bad end.
As for other fics... it’s looking more and more likely that v7 of my Yellow Brick Road AU will never actually make it out. >w>; I’ve got some really great ideas, but not enough to make me feel like I know what I’m doing, and that’s a big roadblock. Plus trying to engage with RT’s Atlas-Mantle worldbuilding in any serious capacity is... a headache. I can’t recommend the Happy Huntress Cinematic Universe enough, but it leaves some pretty big shoes to follow! And I’ve got small feet. <w<;
What are your writing strengths?
Dialogue’s fun, probably as an extension of characterization. I love tearing into what makes people tick, especially against the backdrop of their environment, the story they’re in, and the people they’re up against. Voice is a double-edged sword; I’ve been told my writing is really recognizable and individual, but on the other hand, I’ve been growing frustrated with with the limits of my narrative ability. There’s a strong rhythm I keep when I write (you might notice it here, even) but that leaves me feeling predictable and stale. I’m not sure I’m great at setting as a matter of course, but I’m pretty good at describing setpieces where the need comes up; that comes from my background in poetry, as does the fun I have with sublimating and abstracting complex imagery. And I think I bring some needed nuance to the universal. For good or ill, I don’t do what “everyone else” is doing.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Well, writing, for one thing. If I don’t know how something’s going to go and don’t have the urge to write it, it isn’t getting done, which means there’s a billion things that will never see the page and a few hundred more that are never getting finished. I lose momentum easily and have a hard time getting started, and I put way too much standing on finding a foothold with other people; as critical as I am of my work, I have high expectations for the stuff that passes muster, and it never seems to measure up. I’m also really uncreative. Yeah, I can mix up elements and extrapolate events, but coming up with things wholesale is really hard, which is why I avoid it wherever possible and steal/reskin stuff from other places instead.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Something along the lines of “Hoo boy, I am Not qualified for this but hopefully it’s decent anyway.” Maria’s Spanish lines haven’t been a big deal – I’ve used it sparingly and, as a Latin language, it should be easy for English-speaking audiences to pick up on the gist – but I’ve had a harder time with Tai’s Chinese, both because I have Even Less background there and because it is, of course, an entirely different language system. If I write it out in English or Romanized italics, am I colonizing it or changing the meaning? If I write it out in the presumed-original characters (presumed because it’s Google Translate and who knows if I’m even barking in the right forest), am I confusing or alienating my presumed-majority-English-speaking audience? Where should I put the translations? Should I put the translations? And for Frisk’s sign language, thinking back, are the brackets I used instead of quotes alienating/infantilizing? I like that different characters give the text between a different feel, but I’m not an ASL speaker – and I’m pretty sure the word is “speaker,” which would only reinforce that that demographic would rather I didn’t do that. It’s important for all these characters, I think, that they use non-English language where it makes sense; it’s part of who they are. But as a white monolingual English-speaker, I don’t think I can really weigh in.
What was the first fandom you ever wrote for?
Thaaaat’d be Pokémon, followed closely with Sonic the Hedgehog. Whether those fics are still on my ff.net account or not (pretty sure I’ve purged them, but you never know) I’ve still got a couple saved to a folder on my current laptop, ostensibly so I can look back and see how far I’ve come and more practically to allow for the possibility of furthering group cohesion through public shaming.
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
I still like the idea behind The Man Who Is Atlas, and Burning Bright (Still Awake) gets props for being my current fic, though it’s currently in that spot where I’m excited to get new chapters posted but also quietly marking everything up in red pen. I think Harbinger gets the crown here, at least for now.

ask answering/updates
Tumblr media
first of all, thank you 💘 second of all...
ok ok ok don’t get too excited, but I finally got the juice to start working on the next part of Fanatic 🖤 most of you guys will be like ‘who cares’ but i know some of you have been waiting for this for a while! it’s been what, 2 months?? hope I’m not jinxing myself by saying this *knocks on wood* also not to hype myself too much but it’s kinda bomb 😳 maybe this is just my sick bias but I’ve really been wanting to write about...aftermath iykwim haha. reader all scared & shy & trying to avoid him but yk he’s not going to leave her alone :P
I also figured out the ending to it will come back!! it wouldn’t be shiggy if it didn’t get dangerous 😈 also gonna be nice to write some eyes-rolling-back-in-the-head fuckery so our favorite handsy creep can finally get his dick wet with his beloved little nursey <3
here are some other vague ideas, some based on requests, some not. as always no promises!!
BNHA—pillage & plunder with fantasy AU warlord Bakugo (and his gang of ruffians?? hmm...)
BNHA—Overhaul makes you work off your daddy’s gambling debts the extra hard way uwu...also I have SO many ideas for Overhaul 😷 after I finish iwcb my next multi-part fic will probably be with him
BNHA—various things with reader as an aspiring villain set in the same universe as Caught in the Act: reader getting quarantined with shiggy & dabi...dabi getting mad at you after you keep fucking up...incel shiggy jacking it to his adorable protégée without her knowledge (a galaxy brain request from a very good buddy!!!!)
BNHA—ABO with alpha Hawks and omega reader in an elevator...and uh-oh, it’s stuck! and you’re going into heat! oh no, whatever will you do??
Haikyuu—you get stuck in a hole in a wall, good thing your dutiful boyfriend Kuroo is there to help you out ;)
Haikyuu—gangbang with Tsukki, Bokuto, Akaashi, and Kuroo...a challenge bc I’ve never written a gangbang before!! will have to do some research 🧐
Haikyuu—your bf Atsumu does mean things when he’s jealous, like putting his hands up your skirt in public
KNY—Kokushibou decides to keep a shrine maiden as his cute little human pet 💜 actually already wrote pt. 1 but I’ll wait to post til I’m done with Fanatic
AxK—just some no good very bad yandere content with Dr. Midori...neglect play stuff...sensory deprivation stuff...icky icky
Gintama—something with Kamui. does this count as monsterfucking? very very rough...idk what exactly? some form of dastardly acts
Tumblr media Tumblr media
thanks for the concern friends 💕💕 I’ve been preoccupied by things happening irl for the past few weeks, trying to educate myself, going to protests, etc.
also in case anyone else is confused, my stance is and always has been that Black lives matter and all cops are bastards. I’m not sure my porn blog is the right place to talk about this at length but if you’re a bootlicker, please smash that unfollow button and don’t let the door hit you on the way out. if you don’t already have a decently functioning moral compass you should not get anywhere near my writing...fr
learn more and get involved
Tumblr media
omg thank you & yes yes a million times yes!!! hope you don’t mind commitment issues and student loan debt 💝👯‍♀️
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the line between not hawksfucker and hawksfucker is very thin and very blurry, beware.....lol and thank you!!
the video you recommended...like damn!!! that’s exactly the vibe I feel like fratty Hawks x reader from be a little bad would be like if they had a happy ending eventually (start at 1:39)!!!!! “I didn’t make you do this” “I’m not accusing you of anything” it’s that exact dynamic. imo Hawks might be a little less willing to make things official and reader would prob have a hard time being straightforward enough to ask tho...hmmm
I did get several requests for a part 2! I’m thinking it over atm. I will say tho that most of my reqs have very slow turnaround so if I write it, it might be a while
Tumblr media
ooh I love getting recommendations! here’s what I like:
fanfic: I read stuff like what I write (smut, kink, yandere, villains). at some point I’m going to make a long post of fic recs of my own! I also read fluff and character x character ship fic so interests are pretty broad
TV: humor, crime shows like Bones, Criminal Minds, Psych, that kind of thing. nothing too dark or complicated, nothing that requires too much investment. same goes for anime
movies: pretty much everything! lately I’m really into Howl’s Moving Castle and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
books: literary fiction. can I say I’m into dark academia if the only dark academia I’ve read is The Secret History? favorite books I’ve read semi-recently are TSH, All the Light We Cannot See, The Poisonwood Bible, and Discipline & Punish. currently reading Foucault’s History of Sexuality
music: idk man...all kinds of stuff. I listen based on vibe more than genre. all my spotify playlists are named things like “sunday” and “the power” and “[sparkle emoji]”. my artists on repeat are Hozier, The Weeknd, Kendrick, M.I.A., The Neighborhood (F I’m a basic bitch) but I’ll try anything once
Tumblr media Tumblr media
jfc these two asks have given me so much hope 🥰😭💗 you know what? sooner or later I’m going to post Kamui x reader smut and it’s going to get 3 notes from the three of us liking it and that’s okay because I’ve thirsted over this man too long and too hard to go my entire life without reading over-indulgent reader-insert porn of him. yes the villain kink jumped out but DAMN!!! the man has ‘h*rny scumbag who lets his instincts rule him’ baked into both his DNA and his psyche, and I’m so here for it 😌
Tumblr media
if you don’t know who Kamui is, do me a favor and watch gintama. yes there are like 400 episodes but it’s worth it. I will convert more bitches to the gintama thirst train if it costs me my life. Kamui was made to star in disrespectful breeding kink smut and this is a hill I will die on.
Tumblr media
??? sure, if you can point me toward part 2 ????? lmao
I’m guessing you meant to ask for a pt 2 instead of pt 3? in which case, thanks for asking!! but tbh...for some reason I have a really hard time imagining what a pt 2 would look like, maybe because I wrote it 100% from Overhaul’s POV so it’s hard for me to define the reader’s feelings. I’m not saying it’ll never happen but 🤷‍♀️
HOWEVER if it’s Overhaul content in general you’re craving, you’re in luck!!! he’s a favorite of mine. legit he ticks so many of my boxes—villain kink? check. medical/scientist kink? check. yakuza kink? honey I’m weak. I’ll definitely be writing more for him in the future!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh no! I checked it on my computer & on mobile and all of the links are working for me? are the links still broken for you guys?
anyway, here are the rules, here’s the short version of the request rules, and here is part 1 and part 2 of it will come back.
thank you to everyone who has sent kind words, everyone who replies to my writing, and everyone who posts thirst in the tags!!! I read that shit!!!! and it makes me fucking cry, I love you all
one more thing: several people have requested continuations to Sleepless, Sidekick, and Fanatic. on one hand, I’m so flattered that you guys want more!!! on the other hand, I actually already answered asks about pt. 2′s for those particular fics. before you request a continuation of anything, it’s probably a good idea to look up the name of the fic as a tag on my blog so you can check and see if anyone else had the same question 💖💖💖

hero interview ↠ park seonghwa
➣ ateez my hero academia au
➣ warnings: none really. there is talk about flame on skin because of hwa’s quirk so if that makes you uncomfortable i’d steer clear of this interview
➣ genre: i’ll just say slice of life. hwa’s just a normal top ranking hero course student trying to graduate man
➣ word count: 1,165
➣ author note: part two of the hero interviews for my bnha ateez au!! origin story will be linked here once it’s released. for now, feel free to read both hongjoong’s origin story and interview :)
➣ other interviews: hongjoong
➣ origin stories: hongjoong, [seonghwa]
➣ main masterlist
“to some, a dry summer’s unbearable heat may stand as a difficult obstacle to definite survival. but such is not the case for the one and only valiant hero, park seonghwa! now my viewers, do you think you can handle hearing the firsthand account of just what goes on in our lovely lumiere’s head?” seonghwa can’t help but sigh at the fiery look in san’s eyes as he points his cue card at him, waiting for his answer. “san, what did i say about introducing me like you’re filming a nature documentary on the candle from beauty and the beast? i am ready though, more or less— let’s just get this thing started.”
Tumblr media
❅♩♬♩❅――
“First of all, who are you? Tell us your profile information.”
”Alright, well, I am Park Seonghwa, also called by my hero name, The Red-Hot Hero: Mars. I’ve been a student at U.A. High School’s Korean campus for all of the last three years. My birthday is April 3, so I’m one of the oldest students in 3-A, though Hongjoong is the representative. Then for the overall ranking for this year’s graduates, I came in sixth. I’m currently in my Hero-Work Study under the popular flame hero, Inferno, and my quirk is called ‘Candle’. I am also the eldest of the eight members of ATEEZ.”
“How did your quirk manifest?”
”I think I was nine when it happened? I was a late bloomer regarding my quirk development, but the story honestly is pretty boring. My family was out camping one summer, and while my brother and I were sitting by the fire making smores, my skewer was a little too close to the flame, so when a few embers crackled off the firewood at the bottom, a couple bounced onto my fingers and immediately erupted into flame. I don’t remember it all that well, since I had a sudden rush of adrenaline from thinking I was gonna burn to death, but my mom says the moment I came to my senses and realized it really wasn’t at all painful and that I’d probably developed a quirk, I cried.”
“Why do you want to be a hero?”
”Hmm, I’m not sure how I can answer this actually. If I had to put it into words, I think it’d be because I want to be seen as a reliable figure that people can’t help but want to lean on. I want people to feel that even though we can’t help the bad things that fall upon us, that there are heroes like me that they can call upon when times get tough.”
“Tell us about your quirk. What is it? What are the pros and cons of it?”
”I briefly mentioned it earlier, but the name of my quirk is ‘Candle’. It’s exactly as the name implies, and there are flammable fibers embedded in my skin and hair that I can make burst into flame at will. It’s very simple, but since everyone with the exception of flame and resistance quirks can burn, it’s extremely effective. And it isn’t just the fire part that makes me useful, since similarly to Mingi, I’ve also got the ability to emit soft light like a candle. I think the pros here would be that I can easily stand high temperatures without suffering burns, and I can control the heat of these flames. Early on in my first year, I learned to make completely heatless flames which isn’t very useful, but I like to think it’s a unique skill! As for the cons, well, my skin may be physically incapable of burning, but I can still overheat and fall into heat exhaustion. We also learned last year that it’s possible for my flames to explode if I reach a certain heat, so if the flame is still connected to my skin at that point, it’s possible for me to terribly injure myself.”
“Now tell us about your hero name. Is there any specific story behind it?”
”Honestly I don’t think that many of us graduates have super interesting stories for our hero names, and I’m no exception. I initially chose Mars as a first year because it had a nice ring and you could see the clear correlation to my name*. Over the years though, the name has gained a bit of meaning. When you think of Mars, you think of the scorching hot planet, or you think of the Roman god, right? I want people to think of the burning intensity of the planet along with the strong presence of the Roman god of war when they think of my name, so in the end it still ended up being a good fit, no? Also Mars is one of the planets you can easily see in the night sky without a telescope sometimes, so I want people to think of me as a hero you can always feel watching over you like that. I want to be someone reliable to the people.”
(*i think most atiny already know this, but in case you weren’t aware, if you flip the characters 성화, seonghwa’s name, you end up with 화성, the korean word for mars)
“Do you have any hero role models? If so, who and why?”
”Well I do look up to the hero Hongjoong is working with, Eden, and I’m pretty sure everyone in ATEEZ does. All eight of us have gotten to work with him at some point, and there’s just something very admirable about his efficiency. Besides Eden though, since it’d make for a boring set of interviews if everyone gives the same answer, I really, really admire one of U.A. Korea’s accelerated graduates, Hwall. I’m pretty sure since he was in class B, that other hero team “The Boyz” is very close with him. I ended up taking a particular interest in him not just because he had a fire quirk like me, but because he’s overall a very powerful fighter, yet he has an easily recognizable and incredibly unique style. I do find it odd sometimes when I suddenly remember I’m older than him, but even if he’s one of the youngest active heroes at the moment, I think Hwall deserves the entire nation’s respect for his intellect and tenacity.”
“What was your favorite memory at U.A.?”
”The other members all call me a freak for having enjoyed it, but I think my best memory here by far was the provisional hero license exam. Yeah, we were all immensely stressed and Mingi almost failed, but really enjoyed the rescue phase of the exam. I kept getting frustrated during the initial elimination phase because of how ATEEZ kept getting targeted since people could easily identify us and our quirks, so we really struggled, but then during the rescue phase, I was instantly reminded of why I was dealing with it; why I wanted to become a hero. Just having experienced that test helped push me closer to my goal of being the reliable Mars.”
“Closing thoughts”
“Well, it may not seem like it now, but for the longest time during my training, I wasn’t confident in my skills at all, but as I look back at the years I’ve spent here, it’s very clear that I’ve come a very long way— I’ve grown so, so, so much from even just this time last year too. I’m thankful to this school for giving me the training I need to help others. Once all the members of ATEEZ graduate, I hope we can grow into a reliable team Korea’s proud to call theirs. This has been The Red-Hot Hero: Mars. Thank you for having me today!”

blooming (1/6);
fandom: bnha pairing: kacchako; bakugou katsuki x uraraka ochako word count: 3129 warnings: mentions of violence inspiration: [link] synopsis:
Ochako doesn’t understand much about the world outside the limits of her village, but she does know this: She loves her family, and at the end of the day, she’ll do anything to keep them safe – even if it means sacrificing herself to do it.
When she runs away to join the army in her father’s place, the only thing she leaves behind is an untouched cup of tea, and a whispered apology nobody is awake to hear.
(or, in which an attempt is made to write a kacchako mulan au)
parts: [1] [2] [3] || AO3: [link]
“娘は壊れ物.” – Japanese proverb (transl. "Daughters are fragile.")
__
Ochako doesn’t understand much about the world outside the limits of her village, but there are some things she does know, even as she pretends to be oblivious.
She knows that the butcher lowers his prices for the richest families, in exchange for a monthly barrel of wine that he hides from his wife. She knows that the elderly lady who begs in the market isn’t actually homeless, but dresses like she is and lives in the next village over, rubbing dirt on her cheeks every morning. She knows that her mother hasn’t given up on trying to find her a husband, even after three different matchmakers deem her hopeless.
Ochako knows that the shogun needs men to full the ranks of his army, to fight in a war against a madman. She understands that a daughter is supposed to bring her family honor through marriage, while a son is meant to earn his in battle. And she knows, as her father tries and fails to run through long-forgotten katas with his nodachi, that if her father goes to war, he isn't coming back.
She’s never wanted to be a hero like her father, left old and broken from defending the shogun and his country – but while Ochako doesn’t understand much about the world, she does know this.
She loves her family. She wants more than anything to see them happy and healthy, and at the end of the day, she’ll do anything to keep them safe – even if it means sacrificing herself to do it.
Ochako steals the conscription papers from the bedside table. She binds her breasts and cuts her hair and takes her father’s swords, running away to join the army, and the only thing she leaves behind is an untouched cup of tea with a whispered apology nobody is awake to hear.
__
When Ochako arrives at the training grounds, one thing is abundantly clear – this place isn’t meant to produce soldiers. The men she sees as she settles into the camp are boisterous and cheerful and carefree, the types of people who see battle as a game and not a fight for survival, and it’s very clear that whoever is in charge is being set up to fail.
By the look on Captain Bakugou’s face on their first day of training, he’s in complete agreement.
He’s also the most physically stunning man she’s ever seen in her life, and it takes everything in her to pretend like her face isn’t on fire when he carelessly sheds his shirt to expose carved muscles and sharp hipbones and miles of smooth, golden skin.
She keeps her eyes on his face and tries to ignore how her ears are burning.
It helps that his personality has all the charm and charisma of a dead rat. The man is crude and impatient, a permanent scowl fixed on his face as he has each recruit spar with him one on one. There’s no mercy as he knocks each and every one of his opponents out of the ring with bruises and injuries of various degrees, a mocking sneer twisting across his mouth as he goes.
Ochako is shaking in her boots when her name is called up.
Bakugou looks decidedly unimpressed at the way she nearly trips over her own feet and falls on her face before stepping into the marked boundary of the sparring ring. His eyes are drifting to run over the remaining recruits that are waiting their turns, and she’s angry and embarrassed that he’s writing her off so easily.
“Hey!” she yells, and Bakugou’s gaze snaps back towards her, “don’t look away from me!”
She grits her teeth at his answering sneer. “Why the fuck would I pay attention to a waste of space?”
Something hot burns in her chest at his words – it feels an awful lot like rage.
Family, honor and duty. The words echo in her head as she runs over the past twenty-odd fights, short as they were. She slides a foot back, settling into a low crouch as determination coils in her stomach.
“Hajime!”
Ochako doesn’t give him the time to think, springing forward, and she can see the way his eyes widen at the initiative. She has the bare bones of a plan in her head, half-formed and relying on chance more than skill, but maybe it’s enough.
When she’s within range, Bakugou leads with his fist, body thrown into the movement with full commitment, and her heart leaps as she smoothly dodges the punch, ducking to the side and sliding into his space to try and sweep his legs out from under him and strike at the underside of his jaw. She catches him in the cheek, a rabbit-quick punch that doesn’t seem to do much damage, but she’s too slow to react to the kick to her leg, her knee crumpling beneath her as she hits the dirt with a gasp.
It’s only by luck that Ochako sees the boot hurtling towards her face, and she scrambles away just before Bakugou’s foot comes down in what would have been a nasty curb stomp.
She gapes at the cloud of dust that rises from the impact, scrambling to her feet and putting distance between them as narrowed red eyes turn to meet her gaze. It’s just as violent as some of the other attacks he’d made during other spars, and it’s obvious that he wasn’t expecting it to actually land, but as he turns to her again, there’s a marked difference in his expression and stance.
Now, his sneer is tinged with a curious edge, red eyes flashing in interest. He doesn’t look even a little winded, but Ochako is panting hard from a mix of pure willpower and adrenaline.
“Tch.” Bakugou flexes his jaw, testing the movement. “You actually hit me.”
She grits her teeth. “There’s more where that came from!”
He scoffs, but his focus is entirely on her now as he rushes in first. He’s leading with his fists again, but this time, when he goes for the punch Ochako tightens her core and lets it land, wheezing as pain explodes in her stomach. Her feet skid back, bracing against the force, and she pushes through the pain, using his outstretched arm to pull him towards the elbow she aims at his nose.
The hit is deflected with a palm strike that sends her off balance, a kick to her back sending her to the ground. As Bakugou closes the short distance between them, the fine, loose texture of the earth below her palms gives her an idea.
It's playing dirty, but Ochako doesn’t really care as she flips over and tosses two handfuls of dirt into Bakugou’s face.
“Motherfucker, you bi – !” The fine particles give her precious few seconds as Bakugou scrubs at his eyes, and she tries to dart in close to land a hit. Unfortunately, it takes her too long; by the time she manages to land a sweeping kick that knocks him down, he’s already recovered enough to lunge at her in an all-out tackle that ends with her wrists twisted behind her and his weight bearing down on her back.
“Tch, that was almost halfway decent.” The rough growl does nothing to hide the smirk in his voice, and when she tries wiggling out of his hold, he only puts more pressure on her wrists. “Tap out, or I’m gonna start breaking shit.”
Ochako grits her teeth, stubbornness holding out for a moment before she slumps. “… I yield.”
She gasps in relief as her arms are released, the weight on her back disappearing. Her arms flop at her sides into the dirt, exhaustion finally hitting her, and all she wants to do is not move for the foreseeable future.
“Oi. Round face.” She flinches as a foot nudges into her side roughly. “Get the fuck up, I’ve got other extras to beat to the ground before the day is done.”
Ochako takes a deep breath, then slowly clambers to her feet, wincing as the tenderness of her stomach from tanking that earlier punch. Bakugou is already looking at his next opponent, eyes fixed on a tall redhead whose biceps look like they’re bigger than her own head, but something makes Ochako call out to him.
“My name,” she says through gritted teeth, and he pauses to look back at her over his shoulder, “is Uraraka.”
Bakugou studies her for a moment, eyes unreadable, and as he turns away, scoffs, “Whatever, round face.”
__
Days pass. Ochako aches on her good days, and can barely move on others. Bakugou is a harsh taskmaster who has a takes-no-prisoners attitude that drives every single recruit into the ground, and now she knows that she was right about him being set up to fail.
The man that arrives a week into training is a smug, obnoxious little prick from the shogun’s court, a noble looks like he had weaseled his way into his advisor position through nepotism and money. Lord Monoma sneers at all the recruits like they’re dumb animals rather than people, and for some reason has it out for Ochako in particular, snidely pointing out how she lags behind the other men during training exercises and her overall slow improvement.
The only consolation is that Bakugou hates Monoma more than anyone else, and actively works to make the man’s life as miserable as possible. One ‘accidental’ fire keeps the insufferable man away from the training grounds for a solid week, and Ochako has to hold herself back from crying in relief. Some of the other men have no self-preservation and actually try to hug Bakugou, which earns them extra laps and chores as punishment.
There are some moments of brightness that shine through the monotony of the days, but for the most part it’s not easy, being here. She’s the smallest and shortest one in the camp, the one with the lowest stamina and the least energy to spare, and more often than not it takes her twice as long to finish endurance exercises or obstacle courses because she just doesn’t have the physical strength to keep up. She does well in spars, using her father’s teachings to turn her opponent’s size and strength against them, but at the end of the day, she’s a woman pretending to be a man, and there is only so much she can do on her own before the frustration at her lack of progress starts to eat away at her. Some days, she feels like she's breaking through her slump, but on others it feels like she's the dead weight who's moments away from being cast off.
It's during one of these days that Bakugou is waiting for her as she comes back from her exercises one night, the rest of the men having finished hours earlier. In his hands are two heavy weights, cloth straps looped through the holes in the center of each disk, and he unceremoniously drops them into her arms.
“Get the arrow by sunrise,” he says, pointing upward, and Ochako follows his hand until she sees an arrow embedded into to the wood of a training post that’s thicker than the circle of her arms and as tall as a century old pine. “If you can’t, don’t bother showing up for training.”
He doesn’t look back even as panicked questions start spilling from her mouth, ducking into his tent and leaving her alone in the darkness. Her arms already heavy and worn from the day’s training, the arrow looks like it’s miles away, and Ochako looks down at the weights with a growing sense of hopelessness until she sees it.
There are words embossed into each disk. It’s a full moon and the characters are easy to read, but Ochako still traces the raised strokes slowly. Discipline and strength. She thinks of her father’s swords, tucked in her tent, and the horimono engraved on each blade. Peonies – bravery and honor.
Ochako looks up at the post, eyes observing the knots and cracks in the old wood. She then ties the weights to her torso, wraps her hands in strips torn from her shirt, and starts climbing.
__
Two hours from sunrise, Ochako approaches the commander’s tent, illuminated from within by the light of a candle. When she’s given the permission to enter, she’s finds herself staring directly at Monoma of all people, sitting on the opposite side of the tent. At the sight of her, he looks like he’s just swallowed an entire yuzu fruit whole.
“Well?” Bakugou doesn’t even glance in her direction, eyes focused on the scroll in his lap. One hand is flipping a knife between broad fingers, the other holding a half-eaten pear, and here in the soft candlelight he’s softened by the shadows cast along his sharp features. The loose shirt he wears does little to hide the broadness of his shoulders or chest, and abruptly, Ochako feels a tiny flutter bloom beneath her breastbone.
Oh. Oh, no.
No, no, no, no, no.
She’s delirious, she decides. She’s exhausted and sleep-deprived and confused by the feelings that are stirring in her chest, and Ochako blames all of that on what she does next.
“One arrow, Captain,” Ochako says, and stakes the arrow, head first, into the map spread across the table in front of her, “as promised.”
Something in her revels in the way Monoma jumps in surprise, wide-eyed, and her ears burn as Bakugo barks out a sharp laugh. She pulls the two weights off her back, dropping them in a neat pile at her feet.
“What was it you said? Fragile?” Bakugou’s expression is full of unholy glee, and Monoma looks like he can’t decide if he wants to punch Bakugou in the face or stab him. “A deal’s a deal, fuckface. Get your arrow and your shitty ass out of my damn camp.”
Monoma grinds his teeth and stands with all the grace of a sore loser, sweeping out of the tent without a word.
Silence falls. It takes Ochako a few embarrassingly long moments to process what she's just heard, still confused as hell, but then decides that she can’t be bothered to be polite about it.
“I’m fragile?” Offended, Ochako looks down at herself, where her raw hands are bleeding through makeshift bandages. She can see the dips of her abdominals showing through her shirt. “… wait, you bet on me?!”
“The shitty bastard did.” She barely reacts fast enough to catch the pear that nearly brains her in the forehead, fumbling with it for a moment before it lands awkwardly between her elbow and her chest, and Bakugou just smirks when she shoots him a glare.
“There’s nothing fragile about you, round face.” Stunned, her mouth falls open, and there's something else in Bakugou's expression that she can't name. “Now get outta my tent.”
She knows, logically, that it’s not meant to imply or mean anything – still, heat floods her face to the point where Bakugou notices, by the way his eyes narrow. Before he can say anything else, she decides to cut her losses and squeaks out a goodbye before rushing out and making a beeline for her own tent.
Family, duty and honor. Ochako is here for her father, nothing more and nothing less. She scrubs herself down the best she can, collapses on her sleeping mat, and pretends like the rapid-fire beat of her heart is nothing more than excess adrenaline, burning itself away.
__
The arrow doesn’t mean anything. It shouldn’t mean anything, but something shifts in Ochako, after. It’s odd, breaking through a plateau that has held her back for so long; her body doesn’t feel any different and she’s still waking with sore muscles and aching limbs. The real difference is those five words, spoken with a conviction that Ochako herself doesn’t know if she quite agrees with – but something in her burns whenever she remembers the way Bakugou looked at her after saying it. She wants to prove that he’s right.
There’s nothing fragile about you.
She runs faster and farther, pushing until she’s leading the endurance runs rather than trailing them. She spars with the other men, beats them all one by one – and then she trains with Bakugou. In the beginning, he knocks her on her ass every time, but slowly, each bout between them lasts longer and longer. She learns to hit harder and fight smarter, until she finally manages to pin him down after weeks of eating dirt.
“Gotcha.” She’s panting, pressing down on him as hard as she can manage, and bares her teeth in a vicious, proud smile. Below her, he’s catching his breath, recovering from the way she slammed his head into the dirt seconds earlier. “Yield?”
“… whatever,” he says, empty of all his usual aggression and rage, and Ochako is suddenly distinctly aware of the position she’s in. Her hands are pressing his wrists into the ground at his sides, the bulk of her weight on his hips to prevent him from flipping her – and Ochako swallows when something in Bakugou’s eyes darken.
“Oi, you getting up anytime soon, round face?” His voice is low and rough, and it sends heat pooling dizzily in her stomach. Ochako scrambles off of him, babbling her apologies, but this one moment becomes the spark that ignites the fire burning through her body late at night, when she's alone in her tent and too tired to stop herself from dreaming.
They all start the same way – hand to hand combat, one on one training with Bakugou that transitions into grappling and wrestling. She’s strong, but he can easily overpower her nine times out of ten, and it’s so easy to imagine him holding her down with his hands and hips and thighs.
Sometimes, she fights back – struggles against him until she wriggles free and pins him too.
Sometimes, she leans up to press her mouth to his, and Bakugou bears down on her with all the tempestuous rage of a storm, intent on devouring her whole.
Sometimes, she lies there and lets Bakugou wraps a careful hand to her neck. His thumb presses into the underside of her jaw, tilting her chin up so he can mouth at the skin of her fluttering pulse as she arches into his touch, begging him for more.
Those are the worst to wake up to, her body trembling and aching with longing, and she has to press her fingers to the cold metal of her father’s swords to bring her back to her senses.
Still, she spars with Bakugou – and the dreams don’t stop.

thank you for your answer! i think my most pressing question is at what point am i trying to salvage a bigoted mess that isn't worth "promoting" by creating AUs for it. if a piece of media has potential but the author is too much of a centrist to ever fully realize it and ends up promoting a lot of things i really disagree with, is it fair for me to create different scenarios and tell other people "yeah, this piece of media is a bad take but it could have been like this instead"
I know tumblr makes a big deal out of no-platforming certain creations and creators, and this is a legitimate strategy and one that I agree should be applied at the very least, no exception, to TERFs and fascists and people who are legitimately bigoted. I think there’s a strong argument to be made for no-platforming certain exploitative creations, such as KS, and exploitative fanworks.
But.
1) for all the mess that BNHA is, I don’t think it’s equivalent to KS, and
2) what is “promotion,” even, really?
“Promotion,” when it comes to these discussions, I think usually refers to introducing a creator or creation to someone who didn’t know about them in the first place. This is actively dangerous when it comes to bigotry, and it’s part of TERF and fascist strategy to post ‘reasonable’ ideas (ex: about feminism) or innocent-sounding memes in hopes of drawing the ‘uninitiated’ back to their blogs or forums to ‘convert’ them (as an aside: I think pro-fetishizing fandom types do this as well, to be honest, and they do it by portraying their concerns as ones of free speech or misogyny so that people who aren’t aware of the root of the issue are easily led into agreeing with them). On this basis, people who have bigoted opinions should be no-platformed so their ideas can’t be spread.
I don’t think fandom participation is this insidious though. People make fanwork because they transparently enjoy a canon, not because they’re necessarily trying to insidiously “promote” it. Of course, there’s still a snowball effect where the more people are talking about a canon, the more buzz it gets, and the more people check it out, which makes buzz an important thing for small or new canons (but rarely is this contingent on one person only, and especially not if that person only has a small following). With BNHA specifically? It’s already huge. One person doing anything for it is a snowflake in a blizzard, and if anyone is checking out your fanart or fanfic, it’s incredibly likely that they’ve already heard about or are already into BNHA. Is it really fair to yourself to, uh, think about writing AU fanfic as you proselytizing to non-BNHA fans somehow, rather than you seeing better ways to do BNHA and sharing it with other fans? Rather than you writing something for the sake of your own catharsis?
As I said in my previous answer, there are still a lot of ways for you to decide how you participate. When I mentioned “AUs and dumb headcanons,” it was really just a group of my friends on a fairly insular forum and group chat, fairly self-contained. Even though we were fans of a ‘problematic’ canon, I wasn’t all that worried about “promoting” it, because it was a small group of people who I trusted could be respectful and critical, and other than that, we were just doing our own thing, having pretty much zero impact on anyone outside of us. You could say that liking this canon means we have questionable tastes (and that’s fair lol), but it’d be pretty hard to argue that we were promoting it, rather than just... adapting the canon into something we could semi-privately enjoy together.
Now, I’m running a BNHA blog with a few hundred followers. I guess that could count as "promoting” BNHA (though most of the people who found me were already BNHA fans in the first place), but I’m personally quite comfortable with that. I like to think, and I hope lol, that even though I’m giving BNHA a platform, I’m also giving platform to myself and my critiques. I’m unlikely to prevent people from reading BNHA by deleting this blog, but by continuing to run it I’m much more likely to engage people to think critically about the way the narrative treats issues like sexual assault, and abuse, and criminality. I hope I don’t reach the point where I’m hate-blogging about BNHA, but at this specific point in time, I’m happy with talking about the things I like and hope for, in addition to the places where I think it fucks up.
That’s all to say that you really do have options. If you can’t stand to think that you’re “promoting” it? Maybe just talk about it with a group of friends or a server, rather than posting about it. If you want to post about it, but don’t want to feel like you’re ‘justifying’ it? Maybe reblog more critical posts, or write your own.
While I agree with many of the posts on tumblr that say we should probably distance ourselves from some creators and creations—and the worse their issues are, the more all-consuming their issues are, the more relevant this position is—I also think there’s some leeway for people to say “this canon is bad, and I acknowledge its flaws, but there are parts of it I still really like.” Yes, while liking certain creators and creations will make you highly questionable and untrustworthy, we also have to resist the temptation to inextricably link our morals to our consumption (I mean this both about media consumption and the consumption of material goods), because “there’s no ethical consumption, etc.” and also because there’s no work without flaws. Being hypercritical toward ourselves for having imperfect tastes in an imperfect society will just make us obsessive with hypervigilance, tirelessly questioning ourselves and our motives like we’re waiting for ourselves to fuck up, and that’s not a healthy way to treat our own being.
(If you read the above and were like, “no, I’m capable of enjoying things without overinvesting in the perfection of its morals, there’s just something about BNHA that ticks me off,” then, good, it doesn’t apply to you. I thought I’d mention it in case this is a recurring issue.)
The final thing I have to reiterate is: if you’re grasping for reasons to stay, and ways to interact with BNHA that don’t impinge on your values, then this is my insight. If you’re grasping for reasons to go, then go! You don’t need my permission nor my insight to say “this canon makes me so uncomfortable that I don’t think I can interact with it happily anymore.” If you think leaving BNHA behind is for the better for yourself, if it will give you more peace of mind to do so, then you probably already know your decision.

It’s best to start at the beginning,
“At this current moment in time about 80% of the population has a quirk, which is a talent that is unique to the individual. The manifestation of a quirk has become commonplace over the years. There is another oddity in the world that is quite rare, only 32% of the world’s population have this particular manifestation. A soulmate mark, usually a phrase found on a particular part of the body. However, because it’s such a rare occurrence, there’s not much research or knowledge on the subject.” Mr. Aizawa paused and motioned with his head for me to enter the classroom,
“This is Evangeline, she’s new, you can wait until the end of class to make her acquaintance.”
With that, I nodded my head in acknowledgement and made my way to the only open spot in the room behind a kid with green hair and freckles. I’ve moved around enough to not give attention to the inquisitive stares following my movements. Mr. Aizawa continued with the lecture that I knew by heart since I was one of the few that actually had a soulmate mark. I tune out the words having heard them too many times to count, and absentmindedly running my fingers over the fabric of my skirt right above where my mark was concealed. The principal had told me that the teacher who usually teaches this class, World History, is absent, so they have my homeroom teacher, Mr. Aizawa, teaching a review lecture it seems. The rest of the class seemed to pass by quickly. The stupor I was in broken by the ringing of the bell indicating class over and the beginning of our lunch period. However, most of the students didn’t even bother to head out the door to the cafeteria. They instead chose to clamber around the desk I was sitting at and surround me in an enclosed circle of bodies. One after the other shouting different questions at me leaving me a bit overwhelmed and panicky. My eyes darting from one face to the next, seeing their mouths move, but not the sound of their voices. This is just too much, and I need out. NOW! I bolt shoving through the mass of students and make a break for it. Bathroom, bathroom, bathroom. Ah, there it is! I add an extra burst of speed to get to my destination, my sanctuary. I rush over to the sinks I run my hands under the water and splash myself in the face with the cool water. It feels good in comparison to the sweltering environment around me. All those eager kids, like vultures for information about the new kid. ‘I was prepared for something similar to this. There will always be the excitement of the new classmate. But this, this was different. A completely different animal. Maybe it has to do with the hero class in general. Something in the water... Aside from that, I haven’t freaked out like this since the third grade. This is insane, get it together Eva! Don’t let this super important school get to you. They’re teenagers just like you, they’re all relatively human, except that pink one. I don’t know about her, we’ll have to ask about that one.’
*Smek*
I swat my cheeks to snap myself out of the soon-to-be thirty minute internal monologue. After giving myself a steeling look in the mirror I head out of the bathroom and walk in the direction of the cafeteria.
I walk into the central eating area and scan for a place to sit, all the students for my class are busy conversing with one another. I start walking in the general direction when I spot it, the holy grail of all lunch tables. It’s completely empty and no one is going to bother me while I try to eat. I avoid eye contact with the other students from 1-A as they attempt to grab my attention, by flailing their arms around and pointing to their table. ‘I don’t think so, judging by the massive freak out I had earlier, the last thing I need is more interactions.’ After setting my tray down, I can finally breathe a sigh of relief. It takes mere seconds before a small group of students congregate around me. ‘Greeeaat’ I think to myself as I force a friendly smile and wait for them to realize I can’t address all of their questions at once. A firm *Ahem* can be heard from the center of the mass, and like Moses parting the Red Sea, a boy with glasses and an intellectual look about him came forward, and said, “Hello, my name is Tenya Ida, I apologize on the behalf of my fellow classmates for bombarding you earlier.” He finishes his statement with a deep bow, turns away from me towards the classmates who are gathered, and then issues what seems to be come directions to the rest of the class.
They form a line of some sort and wait. He turns back to me after this, and pushing his glasses back up, he says, “They should all wait their turn now and not talk all at once, which is what seemed to overwhelm you the first time.” I nod to show my understanding, and then raise my hand instinctively, then ask myself, ‘why did I just raise my hand for permission to speak when he’s a student just like me?’
“Yes, Evangeline?” Ida says.
“I would much prefer if they weren’t lined up, it feels weird and too formal,-” ‘Not to mention like they’re in line to meet with a queen or some other royal,’ “- I don’t mind if they’re bunched up, just one question at a time would be better.” He nods and asks my fellow classmates to do just that.
I point to a girl with a round face, chocolate brown hair, and kind eyes to start off what feels like an interview session with the press. She says, “ Hi, my name is, Ochaco Uraraka, what’s your name?”
“Evangeline Shaffer.”
The next person is the boy from before with the blue hair and glasses, “I’ve noticed that you’ve got a distinct way of speaking Japanese, foreign even. If you don’t mind me asking, where are you from?”
“Well, that one is a bit more complicated, my family traveled a lot when I was younger. I’m from a little bit of everywhere, but you would be correct in assuming Japanese is not my first language. I still have a hard time with it sometimes, so if I ask any of you to repeat something it’s probably because I need to be able to properly understand you all.”
“So what’s your power?” a fairly short girl, with green hair and her tongue sticking out asks. I then notice a small boy with freckles and green disheveled curly hair, whip out a notebook. Pencil in hand, he was poised above the paper after writing in anticipation of the next word about to come out of my mouth.
I quirk my brow up at this strange observation but answer the question nonetheless. “It’s a form of crystallization, but instead of crystal it’s quartz.”
Some students have already left, after getting the information they were looking for, but there were four that came over at a significantly belated time in my conversations. One of them was pink, with strange, but beautiful eyes, she came over and introduced herself as Mina Ashido. With her were a boy with a lightning bolt in his hair, Denki Kaminari, and there is also a boy with bulky elbows, who introduces himself as Hanta Sero. The last person of the group was a boy that seemed super friendly, when he came up to the table he beamed showing his shark-like teeth, his name is Eijiro Kirishima.
Ashido practically bounced her way over to my side of the table and encompassed me in a tight hug. “I just hope that we can be awesome friends is all! Welcome to class 1-A!”
“Thwank Ou” (Translation: Thank you, head/face squished = distortion of words)
She released me from the hug and sat down at my table next to me allowing me to take in a deep breath of air. Kaminari and Sero sat down across from me while Kirishima sat at the other side of me that wasn’t occupied by Ashido. ‘Everyone else has left my table, why are they still here?’
“Um, weren’t you sitting somewhere else?” I say, hoping they’ll take the hint that I just need some time alone.
“We thought that it would be better to sit here so you’re not sitting alone at the lunch table, especially on your first day.” says Kaminari.
I next hear thumping noise approaching the table we’re all sitting at, and look up to find a boy with spiky, ash-blonde hair, and saggy pants sit himself down at the table. I look on at his actions with wide eyes, ‘Wow, who pissed in your cheerios this morning?’ Sero looked over at me and motioned over to the new addition to the group while saying, “This is Katsuki Bakugo, don’t mind him, he’s always like this.”
“I don’t need you to introduce me Tapeface!” He exclaimed, but he didn’t bother to introduce himself anyways, he just went back to eating his lunch.
I feel a slight tingling sensation on my left hip, but I dismiss it because, for the rest of the lunch period there was no real excitement other than whenever Bakugo was a part of the conversation. Watching their interactions was a great change of pace from my previous school experiences, ‘This is actually pretty nice, maybe the world isn’t all that bad after all.’

I was glad to see you enjoyed my Top 10 ask. You did mention you had a ranking for the arcs - would you do a ranking for them? Like, worst to best? (My guess (of the arcs you've finished): Internship arc, Hero Killer Arc, License Exam, USJ, Intro Arc, Culture Fest, Battle Trial, Pro-Hero arc, Final Exams, Sports Fest, Camino Ward, DvKp2; since you haven't liveblogged Joint Training Arc yet, no clue.) Just curious.
good morning evening everyone, and welcome to another Wednesday episode of “makeste tries to answer asks from two months ago while on the bus.” this one is a bit of an interesting challenge since it involves ranking and that always takes me a long time, but as you said, I did have an ongoing ranking of the arcs in my head, so we’ll see. at the very least the ones at the beginning and end shouldn’t be too hard, and you can probably guess them already. (in fact, you actually did.)
(ETA: yeah this took me two sittings to do, so I ended up posting it on the ride home lol. I just like BnHA you guys. almost as much as I like talking about how much I like it!)
okay so here goes.
14. Basement arc - yeah so let’s just go ahead and get this over with. this is the one and only BnHA arc that I actually dislike. fortunately it’s an outlier and suffered from a bunch of one-time issues, most of which stem from the fact that Horikoshi was apparently trying to write a longer and darker arc than usual. well he succeeded! and thankfully learned his lesson. and at least this arc gave us Eri and Mirio and some good Kirishima flashbacks and Chekov’s Quirk-Be-Gone bullets and the Highway to Hell. hopefully the anime can improve on the rest.
13. Provisional License arc - okay, so it might surprise a few people that this arc is all the way down here. let me explain. this is a perfectly fine arc, and I like it well enough, but it’s a bit longer than it needs to be, and not that much happens in it aside from our introduction to best boy Yoarashi Inasa, and the Great Toga Conspiracy (which is admittedly excellent). there are some great moments (Aoyama doing his best impression of “THE BEACONS ARE LIT” from RotK comes to mind), but overall it’s fairly forgettable, and it suffers from being placed directly in between my two absolute favorite arcs, which means I have a tendency to overlook it, which isn’t really the arc’s fault.
12. Hero Killer arc - this one is interesting because I really lost patience with it during my first read-through, but strangely enough when I watched it in the anime I actually really enjoyed it. it was also much shorter than I remembered. I’ve belatedly realized that reading it while doing commentary really slowed me down, because for the parts that I wasn’t feeling, doing the commentary took a long time and also left me dwelling on a lot of the things I didn’t like. but in actuality, Stain’s Annoying Rants aside, this is a pretty enjoyable arc full of Big Hero 6 flashbacks, hot revenge-driven Iida, Gran Torino’s introduction, Deku learning full cowl, Bakugou’s Best Jeanist internship, and Todoroki saving Deku and Iida’s lives by being glued to his phone when he really should have been paying attention to his own internship. get off that social media already Shouto.
11. USJ arc - this is a great arc, but it just feels small compared to everything that happens afterward. but it’s fun to look back on because there are lots of little hints for future developments to come. the traitor theory, for instance. and this is also our introduction to the League and to Tomura and the Noumu. and that final fight between All Might and the Noumu is still one of my favorite scenes in the whole series, especially in the anime. it’s so fucking good you guys. shit.
10. Intro arc - just FYI, I lump everything from the first chapter up until USJ into one arc since it’s easier. anyways, so this is roughly on the same level as USJ, but gets a slight edge because there are some iconic moments here. namely, the first chapter (which is still one of the best shounen intro chapters I’ve ever read, if not the best); Kacchan VS Deku 1; the entrance exam; and our introduction to the rest of class 1-A, particularly Ochako and Iida. oh, and Aizawa! gotta love how he starts out all ready to expel some bitches only to wind up falling in love with the whole class. fatherhood agrees with him.
9. Band AU arc - I actually love this arc. I just love all of the ones above it on the list a bit more, and I can’t really justify it being any higher than this. but it has The Band and the Babysitting Squad and Mirio being the best big brother in the world and Eri being just ridiculously, astonishingly cute. Gentle and La Brava are also great villains, if not quite my favorites. there are a few questionable plot holes in the arc, and it lacks any sort of big impact on the rest of the series, but it’s basically a canon filler arc and it’s so much fun and I can’t wait to see it animated.
8. Fanfic Lodge arc - you guys this arc started out so fucking cute and ended up so fucking tense. and this was our intro to the League of Villains proper, including Spinner, Twice, Tuxedo Mask, the prodigal Todoroki son, and my best girl Toga. Deku VS Muscular is still hard for me to read (his liiiiiiiimbs) but it’s one of Deku’s best moments regardless. and the angst at the end of the arc is almost unparalleled. god I love it.
7. Final Exam arc - a.k.a. the one where all the kids team up with each other to shoot their teachers in the fucking face. this arc has it all: Momo character development, Bakugou character development, TodoMomo, BakuDeku, and Aizawa being a total badass. (and All Might too, but he’s kind of overkill tbh. which is its own kind of awesome though.) there’s so much good stuff in this arc that this description is a bit vague because if I got any more specific we’d be here all day. it’s just a lot of good stuff that I like.
6. Joint Training arc - dudes I love this arc so much. class B and their array of ridiculously awesome quirks! class A and their impeccable teamwork! Bakugou joining the OFA Scooby Squad and showing off his new WIN AND RESCUE COMBO! Monoma! Shinsou!! SIXQUIRKS!!! god there’s so much great content.
5. Endeavorhawks arc - this arc would be even higher except that it’s a bit short (though it’s perfectly paced, so that might actually be a plus) and it doesn’t feature as many of my faves. but Hawks’s intro + our intro to The Great Noumu Conspiracy + Todoroki Family Drama + some of the best character development I’ve seen in a shounen manga (god I still can’t get over what a ballsy move it is to try and redeem Endeavor) = solid gold. and it’s so well done. and caps off with one of the best plot twists in the series to date, which sets up what promises to be one hell of an interesting arc later down the line. just. it’s so good. possibly the best-written arc to date, even if it doesn’t quite top my list.
4. My Villain Academia arc - and this isn’t even done yet!! and it’s still already this high!! Tomura flashbacks! Toga flashbacks! TOUYA FLASHBACKS???! (we’ll see??) creepy cults! my new favorite character One-Handed Giran, the biggest badass in the whole fucking series! worldbuilding for days! Dr. Robotnik! more Noumu shit! etc. etc. this arc has been non-stop goodness and I almost feel spoiled at this point.
3. Sports Festival arc - the most fun of all the arcs. I have rewatched the cavalry battle in the anime like a bazillion times. there used to be this show on Nickelodeon called Wild & Crazy Kids where kids teamed up for all these zany competitions (water balloons were usually involved), and I fucking loved that show, and parts of this arc kinda have that same kind of spirit. it’s just fun. and then to top it all off we have our Shouto character development, as well as Bakugou’s little character arc that he also has which is excellent. not to mention what is probably Ochako’s most badass moment to date. love it.
2. Kamino arc - guyyyys where do I even start? this arc is perfection. good VS evil. All Might taking a stand even when he’s got nothing left in the tank, because the world needs him and he won’t let them down. the sheer visceral terror of AFO’s introduction. my favorite character getting fucking kidnapped and being brave AF and his friends rallying to save him yesssss. and the reveal of All Might’s secret, which is arguably the most powerful scene in the series. I get chills every time. “my heart is still the heart of the symbol of peace.” if All Might had announced at that moment that he was starting a new religion I would have been like “yeah okay.” I would follow him to the ends of the earth. how can one man be that selfless and brave. anyways this arc is absolutely incredible and objectively one of the best in all of shounen.
1. Deku VS Kacchan Part 2 - nothing to see here, just two boys who’ve known each other since they were in diapers, who’ve done everything together and have always been together but have never actually understood each other until now. just the two of them finally opening up to each other, because the one who always tried to act so tough actually isn’t that tough, in truth, and in spite of everything, he trusts the other enough to let his guard down around him this one time. just two rivals, sorting out their shit and figuring out what it all really means. and their dad, helping to facilitate the whole thing because he knows that one day, somewhere down the road, this bond between them will mean absolutely everything. is this really even an arc?? it’s only like six chapters, and only one event actually takes place. but do I care?? yeah, no. Deku and Kacchan’s relationship is the series to me, so yeah. to me it counts as an arc. and not just any arc, but the best arc.
so there you have it! I hope I haven’t accidentally left something out lol. but this should hopefully be a pretty definitive list, at least for now. looking back at all of this really makes it sink in just how good of a story this is, though. damn.

BNHA self insert AU [Book 2]
Lost and confused on this here day? Start from the WAAAY beginning!
Chapter 1: It is Wednesday My Dudes.
Howdy! I guess I should introduce myself? Oof UMMMMMM, the names Lili Perla Iida! I’m 15 years old, about to turn 16, and I’m the oldest of 4 kids. Being big sis feels as natural as the wind in my hair as I pirouette. Speaking of dancing, it’s a Saturday morning, that means I have to get my ass in 5th gear for my private dance lessons. My favorite days are the ones where I get to dance and cause havoc with my siblings! I guess I should head downstairs for breakfast before that robo doggy yips at me for still being in my room.
“Buenos dias mija!” thats my mom, she’s the one bitch I respect the most.
“Good mornin” I greet everyone at the breakfast nook “what’s for breakfast?”
“Spam and eggs with toast” that’s my dad at the stove, I love him but he’s putting too much pressure on me to follow his footsteps. “Here’s your coffee.”
“Oh FUCK yea!” I holler as I jump into my spot at the nook. There’s nothing more I love than some egg and toast with my iced coffee.
“I’m hungies! Please just gimme one toast!” thats my younger brother Iwata, but I call him Iwee or Iwa, don’t tell the other two but he’s my favorite sibling. He’s the one that schemes and I say if that’s doable or not.
“DADDY! Tensei is teleporting my forkfuls into his mouth!”
“MOMMY! Hanaka set my toast on fire!” those two brats are my twin siblings, Hanaka and Tensei but I call them by their middle names, Rosa and Oro. Rosa is half-way decent to be around, so I share a room with her. Oro is a punk ass bitch in the making but I can’t hate him too much, he’s an intellectual.
“Can’t we go one breakfast without something catching on fire?” I rolled my eyes as I got served “thanks dad.”
“Nope, fuck you” Rosa stuck her tongue out “TENSEI STOP!”
“Hanaka! What did we say about tongues?” scolded dad “your family isn’t fire proof!” he turned to Oro “and what did we say about pestering your sister?”
“I shouldn’t play with fire unless I wish to get burned” the boy pouted and crossed his arms “but Iwa and I are hungies!”
“Here’s your plates” dad slid the food in front of the two boys “no more yelling or I’m taking away toast privileges!”
“NOOO THAT’S NOT FAIR!” we whined, you can take away our freedom but us Iida kids will be DAMNED if the sanctity of toast in the morning gets taken away.
“Oh shit, listen to your father” mom jeered as dad sat next to her “oh Lili, don’t forget about applications for entrance exams.”
“I still don’t know where to consider” I sigh as I butter my toast “like, I get that theres privates that have scouted me to go to their’s but I just wanna go to a dance school.”
“Sweet heart, you know we can’t just send you off overseas so young!” mom spoke with a hint of worry “besides, you still have private lessons at the institute until you turn 18! I won’t let you go off without the things you love to do.”
“You can always apply to UA” dad spoke up as he cut his spam “with the recommendations we can give, you don’t have to take the entrance exam.”
“Ugh, I can’t dance if I’m going to a hero school” I huffed “I don’t wanna go to your pompous alma mater dad. No offense mom.”
“None taken, not even I wanted to be there” mom responded so casually.
Dad gave her a side glance “May I remind you on who you met in said pompous school that helped build this family?”
“May I remind you on who was too much of a little bitch to tell me they liked me at said pompous school even though we saw each other basically everyday” she sipped her coffee loudly, marking her win.
“Oof I felt that roast in my DNA” Iwa hit the whoa “that shit hurted, F in the chat for Dad’s pride.
“F” chanted everyone but dad.
After breakfast, I grab my duffle bag and make my way to town.
“Good morning Lili!” thats my aunty Mimi, her and my mom are besties “say good morning Nikita.”
“Guden Morgen Lili!” that’s Nikita, Mimi’s daughter. She’s just a year younger than my twin siblings and today they have a little playdate as my mom and Mimi go to work.
“Mornin’! See y’all later!” I wave them off.
“Oh Lili! Good Morning!” that’s my uncle Jin, he lives next door to us and is besties with my mom and Mimi. For someone that doesn’t have kids, he sure does know how to care for them.
“Mornin’! Are you driving today?”
“Yep, can’t let the media know your mom’s car needs detailing!” he joked as he waved me off.
The dance institute I attend is in the same town we live in and just a 20 min walk from the gated community we live in. Well, 20 minutes for me because I walk kinda fast because of the engines on my feet. Dumb location for the quirk but it does help me when I dance.
“Ah Lili! There you are!” cried out my dance teacher as I walked in “can you lend me a hand in costuming? We need re-adjustments for a few costumes for the level 3s.”
“Of course I’ll help, be right there in a jiffy!” I rush into the costuming room, my second home at times! The lord has blessed me with a second quirk, Master Thread, and I like it more than my other one. It’s not dumb and super useful! I heard that there was once a pro-hero that had the same quirk and my parents knew him before his retirement. My mom says that she interned under his agency and he favored her for her Copy quirk. How cool is it that?! But hero stuff ain’t for me, I just wanna look pretty and dance for the masses. Maybe one day make elaborate ballet costumes, I already make my own at home to practice my quirk. How lucky am I to have such supportive parents?! After I finish the adjustments, I quickly put on my pointe shoes to do a practice run of our summer showcase. As much as I work well with the others in my class, I’m not friends with any of them and I don’t blame them. The instructors show me too much favoritism and even I’d hate me for hogging the attention.
“Lili! Marvelous work!” one of the instructors praised “how about we make you a solo act for this season finale?!”
“Me?! On such short notice?!”
“Yea! I thought I was going to do a solo act?!” huffed one of the girls on stage.
“Yes, you and Lili are going to be solos” they responded “we need to fill out time for our show and I know Lili can give quite a show.”
I looked around to my dance-mates and they all rolled their eyes “I mean, sure but I don’t know how good I can make a solo act in a month and a half!”
“Great!” they clapped “okay, from the top! We need to work on those jumps!”
As usual, nobody bids me good bye at the end of class. I’ve known most of them since I started there at age 5 and they don’t give me the decency to say hello or good bye! It sucks but I didn’t join to make friends. I walk through the streets to get to the fabric store I frequent, you’ll often catch me here after school or practice.
“Lili! Hey!” that’s Maru, he’s son of the number 1 hero, Deku. Our parents are friends and his dad owes his life to my mom because of her quick thinking that saved him back during the UA days. So I guess Maru is my friend?
“Oh sup Maru” I stopped walking as he ran toward me “what brings you around these here parts?”
“I was just looking at some of those shops” he points down the street “theres always cool stuff around here.”
“Yea there is, anyways, wanna join me?” I get giddy “I heading into the fabric store and I need some opinions.”
“I’m your guy!” he joins me as I fully geek out over the new satins.
“Okay so which one? The candy blue” I hover the bolt over my chest “the pearlescent one OR this blush pink?”
“I’m torn between the pearl and pink one” he mutters to himself “what are you trying to make?”
“Another costume, I got a solo act but I have yet to come up with something.”
“Oh that’s not fair! Isn’t the showcase in a few weeks?”
“THAT’S WHAT I SAID!” I groaned “I need so much help Maru! Plus I have to get started on applications and it’s all just a mess.”
“Well, if you ask me” he gets up and walks up to Lili “I think you should get both these satins and I know you’ll come up with something amazing! You’re really good at being graceful” he does a shakey spin “see? And why don’t you apply to UA? So that way we could go to school together!”
“Thank you for your kind words but I’m not going to hero school” I turned to put the blue satin back in the rack “I wanna wear pretty dresses and dance, not kick villain ass!”
“But think about it!” He picked up the two bolts of satin “how cool we’d be as a duo! I’d kick villain ass and you wrap them up to detain them!” he walked up to her “I’d be much braver with you by my side.”
“Be serious!” I laughed as I playfully pushed him “it’s not playtime, it’s hero work! Plus you gotta make your parents proud.”
“But I am serious” he retorted “I want to fight along side you, I want to do lots of things along side you. We’ve been friends since you were born!”
“And? That doesn’t mean you can’t live without me!” I look through the decals section “But you’re already doing great over there.”
I make my purchase and Maru walks me to the front gate before parting ways. What to do? The days just whoosh on by and I don’t have much to go off on. I submit applications to some private high schools that have dance programs but dad keeps insisting that I apply to UA. He had the audacity to give me a physical copy of the application! Apparently hero school apps are due much later than the other schools, for UA it’s October and it’s end of June right now. More time passes and I got a piece together for the showcase along with costume. At this point, I’m just counting the days until I get a response from those other schools I applied to.
-Night of the Summer Showcase-
What a night to be alive and pretty! My costume got the eyes of many that they didn’t notice my tiny fumbles. Another success in my books! My family came out to see me and so did Maru. After, I met up with my parents and Maru also came up to us.
“Amazing show Lili” he hands me a large bouquet of flowers “these are for you!”
“Oh you didn’t have to get me flowers” I was astounded by the mass of pink roses and lilies “but I’m glad you enjoyed the show!”
“I loved your floating spins and the thing at the end when you revealed the satin costume!” he imitated some of my moves “oh um, is it cool if we go for a little walk?”
“Oh sure let me just give these to my mom” I turn to my mom “I’m going for a walk, catch up with yall later.”
“Don’t wander too far! It’s dark out” dad chopped as I turned.
We walk to the garden area to the side of the performance hall “it’s a nice summer night.” commented Maru “the sky is clear too.”
“It is” I smile as I look up “I hardly get the time to look at the sky anymore, I loved star-gazing as a child.”
“Lets star-gaze over there!” Maru pointed to an open patch of grass. We lay on our backs and point at our made up constellations. “You know, I really enjoy your company Lili. You make things so much fun.”
“Thanks I guess?” I really didn’t know how to take that compliment.
“It’s a good thing” he laughed and turned his body on his side, toward me “I’ve been thinking about what you said about just wanting to look pretty and dance. Well, what if I figured out something?”
“What did you figure out?” I was genuinely confused because I don’t remember there being a problem with me wanting that.
“I figured out how you can dance and be pretty with always being by my side” he smiled “we just, get married.”
A record scratched in my head, did this foo just say get married? “Um, what?”
“I know that was a bold thing to say but I was giving it some thought” he explained himself “I like you a lot Lili, I want to be someone you can depend on and I can be someone that supports you in everything you want to do. I’ll be the breadwinner and you can do your thing and not have to work as hard.”
“But I don’t JUST want to be pretty and dance” I butted in “I want to work too! Professional Dancer is a legit career plus I want to go to college” I was starting to think I’m missing the point here “why are you suddenly talking about this?”
“I’m saying that I like you, more than a friend” he meekly spoke “and I want to be a man you can be proud of. You make me feel like I could do anything! Won’t you be my girlfriend?”
My mind was racing but going dumber, how do I tell him that he’s making a mistake without saying it word for word? “Maru, I didn’t know you felt that way!” I scrunched my face “I don’t know what to say.”
“It’s okay, take your time!” he leaned in closer to my face, softening his voice “maybe I should show you how serious I am.” This bitch fully kissed me on the lips, my first kiss and I didn’t feel the sparks or flutters in my tummy. I felt...nothing.
“Huh” I said after he broke the kiss “well uhhhhhh oof um” I stood up “I’ll be talking to ya later” I do finger guns and bolt to the parking lot.
“Wait Lili!” he tried to catch up to me.
“TEXT ME WHEN YOU GET HOME!” I yell before locating my parents “MOM! por favor start the car!” I get in and everyone picked up that I was not okay and something happened but needed some time to sort out my thoughts. Once we got home, I took a shower and slumped in my fuzzy chair in the dark.
There was a knock at my door “Hey, you wanna eat some hot chips with me?” it was Iwa.
“Sure” I open the door to let him in.
“What’s the deal with you? Everything was cool until you started running” he popped open a party size bag of hot cheetos con limon.
“Ugh it’s Maru” I grab a few cheetos “he out of nowhere just confessed and kissed me.”
“Oh shit!”
“Right?! And I feel a little fucked up” I crunched on a cheeto “because I feel like he could do better and when he kissed me, I felt nothing. And that was my first kiss, from my childhood friend!” I put my handful of cheetos in my mouth “I wanted to feel those good feelings but I didn’t. Does that make me a bad person?”
“Dang Lili, from how I see it” he licked the cheeto dust from his thumb “it’s a sign that he’s wrong and you aren’t the one for him” he gestured to the ceiling “the universe isn’t telling you to kiss every boy but just that it’s okay not to reciprocate feelings to somebody else. Your feelings are valid and you’re the baddest bitch here.”
I started to feel a lot better after talking to Iwa. I eventually told my mom and she said basically the same thing. I am confident to say that I am not in love with my friend and I don’t need their validation. Of course I didn’t get a chance to tell Maru since it’s summer and he’s busy with school. In some weird twist of fate, I got rejected by all these schools I applied to. I wasn’t upset, just questioning if this is the universe trying to tell me something.
“You okay sis?” carefully asked Rosa “you don’t look too hot.”
“I don’t know what to do” I spoke up from my desk “nothing but rejection letters and I’m not worried about school or where I go, but what’s wrong with having me as a student?”
“Hmmm, well I know daddy wants you to go to that school” she points at the blank UA application on my desk “and you want to go to a dance academy...por que no los dos? You can go to dance academy for college and go to hero school BUT only to spite dad.”
“Rosa, you’re a genius!” I praised her “who says you have bad ideas?!”
“I know I’m right” Rosa gives a power stance “I’m the powerhouse of the cell!”
And I did just that, I applied and got an invite almost immediately to take the entrance exam in early November. That gave me almost 2 months to train, plenty of time! I tried to hide this from my dad but the word slipped and he was too happy to take me to the exam and help me train. Don’t even get me started on that whole side of the family, uncle Tensei started crying, grandma and grandpa wouldn’t shut up on how the family is going to be full of heroes. All the while, I was trying to break the news that I wasn’t going to be returning for the advanced level courses of dance. All the instructors were sad to the point of begging, everyone else was happy that I was leaving.
-Day of exam-
“You have everything you need?” Dad asked me for the 5th time since we got in the car “we still have time to-”
“YES DAD! FUCK!” he was stressing me out “I’m ready to take this test, stop worrying.”
He sighed “You remind me so much of your mother when we were at UA” he smiled at the thought “she’d snap at me too when I was being overbearing, but I did it because I loved her and wanted her to succeed.”
“Well, what’s one thing she couldn’t leave without?”
“She didn’t feel right unless she hugged me goodbye” he chuckled “even something so simple made my heart race.” He pulls up to the front of the massive front gate of UA “we’re here, do your best! I believe in you.”
“Thanks dad” I take a deep breath “I’ll call you later.”
I walk in the place and I don’t see anyone familiar, just a bunch of students from public schools and other privates. I took a written exam, then came the infamous physical portion. My dad and his hero friends were telling me that it’s one of the toughest entrance exams in the nation, but I wasn’t afraid, just oddly excited! I do my stretches, just minding my business, when I get some crude comments.
“Excuse me but the dance auditions are that way” said some boy condescendingly “why don’t you take your little pink shoes and get out of here before the big scary robots crush you?”
I squinted at them as the group of boys behind them laughed “Excuse me but aren’t the weak little bitches auditions that way?” I stood up to show that I tower him in height “I’m in the right place little man.”
“Lets get to the gates dude, she’s scary”
Everyone was summoned to the start gate and I had a feeling that somebody was watching me. Not like a camera watching me but like somebody near me was looking at me. I looked around but didn’t see anybody familiar or staring at me, it didn’t matter once the siren wailed to start the exam. I was kicking mecha ass with some fancy moves thrown in and when I thought I was going to end the exam on a good note, I hear somebody cry out for help. I rushed over and saw someone had their arm and leg trapped under a mecha, with the added panic of the 0 point big boy mecha dangerously close. I wasn’t going to leave them there, so I gave my all to lift the mecha off them. I couldn’t even lift the thing an inch off them! I had to get creative and used my 2nd quirk to lift the mecha off. I did it and pulled them out to make a run for the safety line.
“It’s no use, just leave me here” said the trapped person “I can’t walk.”
“I’m not giving up on you! I don’t care if I fail this exam” I unraveled my sports jacket, shirt and the ribbons in my hair to fasten them to me “hold on tight! We’re going airborne!”
“Wha-!”
I use the last of my energy to blast us into the air in a wide arch to barely avoid the mecha crushing us. Of course I didn’t have a back up plan and we crash landed in the safety zone, on top of other students.
“Owchies” I groaned “is everyone okay? Sorry about that! I didn’t have a landing plan.”
The nurse runs over “WAH! Miss Iida?! You caused this mess?!”
“Heh ummm yea” I shamefully admitted “sorry Miss Eri, I couldn’t let this student get crushed by the big boy mecha.”
“Lets get you two in the stretcher, come on” she sighed in disbelief “and I’ll be telling your parents young lady!”
“Aww wack!” I pouted as robot helpers put me in the stretcher. I looked over to see the other person in the stretcher next to me “are you alright?”
“I’ll be okay know” they smiled at me “thank you so much for not giving up on me.”
“No problem! I’m Lili by the way.”
Before they could tell me their name, they were hauled away for intensive care. It was fair, they did get injured far worse than me, I walked away with just some gnarly bruises and a scraped shoulder. I didn’t see them after and I really wanted to know their name because they looked oddly familiar. My parents were worried about my injuries as I tend to heal slower. It was winter vacation, usually I’d be excited to be in the holiday mood but I was just waiting in anxiety for my letter. Come the last day of December, I got my acceptance letter! The amount of relief I got from it all was amazing, according to the letter, I scored the most rescue points. Making me at the top of the scoreboard along with some others, so I’m in Hero class A, just like dad and mom. My dad fussed over me the most in the weeks leading to the first day of school.
-Morning of the first day-
“Wake up Wake up Wake up!” yipped the robo dog as they bust into my room “it’s the first day of classes Lili and Hanaka! Please get dressed and hurry down for breakfast.”
“Hnnn it’s 7 in the god foresaken morning!” I groaned as I rubbed my eyes “welp, come on Rosa or the boys are going to beat us to the sinks.”
“Hn! 5 more minutes” she tossed in her bed “Tensei is gonna teleport us to school, you have to ride with daddy.”
“Don’t remind me you brat!” I threw my pillow at her “whatever, just don’t melt the shampoo bottles.”
“Fuck you!”
I quickly take my shower and got dressed in my new uniform to greet my parents. They fawn over how much I look like them when they went to UA, mom told me the story of how she got confused for a boy on the 1st day because her ass was too big for the skirts that they had to be tailor made! I got a good laugh out of that and it made me feel better about starting my school day. I kiss them goodbye and got in the car with dad.
“Excited Lili?”
“Yea, I mostly want to see if that person I rescued made it in” I could hardly sit still in the passenger side “the rush I got from them thanking me had me feeling alive.”
“I hope they did! Sounds like you made a friend if they did.”
“I also wonder who’s the homeroom teacher!” I said as we slowed at the last stoplight before school “since it’s not Eraserhead anymore, I hope it’s one of your friends or some other notable alumni.”
“That’s a good question” Dad pondered “you have to let me and your mother know when you get home” he stops at the same place as last time “here’s your stop, have fun and make friends!”
“Okay dad” I took in a calming breath “I’ll see you later!”
To think my parents walked through the same doors, not knowing that they were going to end up like this? Now their daughter... I hope I’ll find my soulmate here too. I have a soft spot for the love my parents have for each other, you can just tell that they’ve been working on their love since before they actually started dating. I often catch them making out, give loving embraces after a hard day and care for each other in different ways. I want to be loved as hard as my dad loves my mom.
“Lili? Is that you?!” Maru’s voice broke my train of thought.
“Huh? Oh, Maru! Hi!”
“Hey! You made it in!” he gave me a tight hug and twirled “welcome to UA! If you want, I have time to walk you to class.”
“Oh sure” he puts me down “do you know where room 1-A is?”
“Sure do! It’s down over here” he leads me to the hero wing “wow A class huh? I thought the hero stuff wasn’t for you?”
“I thought so too” I shrugged “guess I just had to try and see for myself.”
“If you’re not busy at lunch, we can eat together too.”
“Don’t you have friends here Maru?” I snickered at him.
“You have to call me Midoriya-senpai around the others” he said trying to silence me “and I have to call you Iida-chan.”
“Eww fuck no” I gagged “sounds like you’re calling my dad chan! I’m going to call you Maru, and you have to call me Lili MAYBE Perla if I’m acting up.”
“Fine but I’m saying that I’m respected around here for being one the top students” he bragged as he put his hand on my head “and you’re just a little bitty baby still!”
“Ah! Get yo hand off my hair” I tickle his side to retract his hand “looks like this is my class, see ya later!”
“You don’t play fair Lili” he waved me off “have fun.”
I walk in and see a few people already there, I looked around for my seat and mine is number 4. I set my bag down and get approached by someone.
“Um hi, you probably don’t recognize me but I’m the person you rescued at the exam” shakily spoke the person “I didn’t get a chance to say, but my name is Hoshi Togata.”
I looked at them and something was oddly familiar about them, like I knew them before the exam “Oh you made it in! I was worried if you placed and if you recovered well.”
“You were worried about me?” they blushed “well, I recovered just fine. My arm was broken but Nurse Eri healed me before I was supposed to go home.”
The bell rang and we all sat in our seats, Hoshi sat behind me.
“Good Morning class! And welcome to UA, my name is-”
“BAHAHA NO WAY!” I bursted into laughter “Yo we got Diaper Boy as homeroom teacher?!”
“My name isn’t Diaper Boy!”
“Oh I’m sorry, Diaper Man!”
Our teacher rubbed his temples “Anyways, my name is Grape Juice but you can call me Mineta sensei.” He gave me a stern look “Miss Iida, I trust you’ll behave like your father.”
“Don’t compare me to that Turbo Rectangle!”
“It’s like listening to your mother in your father’s body” he muttered.
Once we went through a whole day of classes, Hoshi and I walk around.
“You know Togata, you look oddly familiar and it’s bothering me a bit.”
“How?” they sweat a bit “I’m just one of the boys!”
“Hmmm, I feel like we met before the exam” I rubbed my chin “but I can’t quite remember, we were probably children when it happened.”
“Well, actually” he put some thought into it “I was thinking the same thing sort of, would it help if I told you my dad is Lemillion?”
“Oh shit! It’s coming back to me!” I was wide eyed as we head to the parking lot “yea! They have 2 boys and a girl my age. OH THAT’S WHO! I was thinking about your sister, how is she by the way?”
“Oh ummm I don’t have a sister” the smile on his face disappeared as he said that.
“Huh? Maybe I was-” I hear a car honk, it was mom “oop, gotta go! See you tomorrow!”
I hop in the car and waved bye. I told my family of my school day and my mom couldn’t stop laughing at the fact that their school-mate Mineta was the homeroom teacher. But as I was getting ready for bed, one thing was bothering me... where did I see Hoshi before?

My “WIPs”
Thanks @sugaandyams. I don't get tagged too often, so thank you!
“The Rules: Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous.”
Oh my goodness. I had stuffed saved in all different places. I’ll start with the folders that contained fics that are incomplete. Welp, here I go!
Great Galactic War - this folder is the dump for my Haikyuu space/war AU, one of three or four fics I may focus on writing in the near future (first chapter is already published); the folder has very little atm, but I have about two dozen different scenes on my phone that aren't saved on PC
Kenma Project - the dump for my actively ongoing Haikyuu next gen captain war AU. I have a file in here further titled Ennoshita chapter. I wonder what that’s about? ;)
Three Kings - the dump for my Haikyuu samurai AU starring Hinata and Noya, the second possible fic I may commit to writing (first 2 chapters already published); there’s a chapter outline (which is dated because I’ve updated it in my head so much), and there are notes and many chapter tidbits on my phone too
Vice - the dump for a canonverse Haikyuu fic that was borne from a desire to write more Nekoma, so I subjected them to debilitating angst. There’s a rough chapter outline in here, and there are a couple of chapter drafts saved as emails on my phone. It’s the third fic that I might commit my time to (first 2 chapters, starring poor Inuoka, already published)
March of Justice - this folder was the dump for my aborted One Piece/My Hero Academia crossover, in which a couple of One Piece villains travel to the BnHA universe to conquer it
And here’s the rest I found. Some of these are just notes on fanciful ideas I had for a day and then never revisited. Others were never intended to see the light of day whatsoever
Abe dake ga Inai Machi - Oofuri-Erased - oh goodness. I had to stare at that title for a while to figure out what was wrong with it. An Oofuri/Big Windup fanfic that I didn’t play with for very long, but I was surprised to find I actually wrote the first chapter. Like Boku Dake ga Inai Machi (Erased), there’s a murder and then Abe finds himself transported back to the start of the Oofuri series, 10 months earlier. I reread some of this first chapter, and by my standards, it’s awful
Ace of Diamond - scandal fanfic - one of the ones never intended to see the light of day. It’s just notes. Basically Seidou pulls off its own Black Sox scandal and gets nailed, with some drama over whether Eijun is actually guilty
Ace of Iron / Ace of Swords - a Diamond no Ace samurai AU, mostly notes but also including drafts of a first chapter. It grew so huge there was no chance I could ever write it as a fanfic, so I actually converted it into an original story idea that I may do something with some day
Big Windup - cheating ploy disaster - this one is just notes and also never intended to see the light of day. An Oofuri idea in which Nishiura’s defeated rivals suspect them of cheating and kidnap the club boys to force them to confess. It goes even more downhill. (I’m very glad that, since discovering Haikyuu, I now conceive fanfics I actually want to write.)
Day of the Countercoup - I had to dig to find this one cos I knew it existed, but it wasn't a file. It was a tab in an Excel doc I used for my Haikyuu political AU, Coup d’Etat. It’s notes for an aborted sequel (Coup d’Etat’s original title was “Night of the Coup,” hence this contrasting title) that I scrapped soon after starting work on it. So glad too! Coup d’Etat got its due, and that AUverse shall be left to itself now
Haikyu - Gospel of Shouyou - oh goodness. I’m not gonna explain this one. Me experimenting, not intended to see the light of day
Haikyu - Nightmare from Heaven - this one may be the fourth candidate for continuation as a long-term fic but is currently unpublished. A war/occupation fic in which Miyagi Prefecture is conquered during a contemporary World War III, and the Karasuno boys must now live under foreign military occupation. The first chapter and part of the second were written, and I've got several notes on my phone and PC about subsequent chapters. Thank goodness tensions in that part of the world have simmered down since I devised it
Life Hereafter - Chapter 6.5 alternate ending - oh no. Life Hereafter is my darkest and most sensitive fic, published only on FFN, written to process a RL tragedy I was distantly affected by. I struggled with the ending of Chapter 6, which covered Tsukki and Yamaguchi’s coping with the canonverse tragedy. One draft (called “6.5″ in case I ever wanted to publish it, but I likely never will) featured Tsukki, seeking solace and desperately wanting to console Yamaguchi, giving in to poor judgment and kissing him. Only to then learn Yamaguchi doesn't have the same feelings back. Topping off their hurt with this was far too cruel and painful, and even before I started typing it, I knew I wouldn’t actually publish it. Rereading the draft even now made me feel uncomfortable which is why I kept it because it’s perhaps the best friendship-ruining moment I’ve ever written
Oofuri fanfic - Sakura Conspiracy - I thought I wrote a chapter 1 draft too, but this is an outline for a WWII Oofuri AU in which Nishiura, after winning Koshien in the late 20s or early 30s, moves on to military and political careers, one of their former teammates dies under suspicious circumstances, and Mihashi fears one of his old teammates may be responsible. The story stretches from 1937 to 1945
I'm actually surprised I found no notes on my Haikyuu mafia AU idea. I guess I never actually transcribed any, even though the plot is substantially complete in my head!
These four are all notes for gigantic crossovers:
Periods of World fanfic - This was an experiment, in which each century from 2000 BC to 2000 AD was listed out, a different part of the world selected for each century, and then a different anime or manga assigned to each part of the world. The idea was to write a chapter set in that century in that area starring those characters. The last chapter, for the new millennium, would have covered all parts of the world. The file is dated 2013. It never became more than this list
Periods of World fanfic 2 - and so it seems I tried again! This file is dated 2014 and shows just a teeny bit more dedication, with the 20th century further subdivided into decades, then every year from 2000-2009, and then every six months for 2010-2014. There are some different anime choices than the 2013 version. Never went anywhere with it, never gonna
Reborn epic crossover anime tribute layout - yes, that’s the literal filename. This is from my days as a Katekyo Hitman Reborn fan, and I don't even recognize most of the character names anymore. Apparently the villains of Reborn travel to seven other anime universes to kidnap major characters to sacrifice them as part of some weird magic scheme that I can’t properly decipher now
Random multi-anime WWII fanfic plan - yes, that’s also the literal filename. This is an outline for a 50-chapter crossover set before and during World War II, where the main characters of Naruto are Russian, One Piece are British, Bleach are French, Katekyo Hitman Reborn are German, Blue Exorcist are Italian, Fairy Tail are Japanese, and Ed and Al from FMA are American. The plot is emotionally devastating, doesn’t pull the punches on all sorts of WWII-related triggers, and frequently and cruelly denies catharsis.
To be perfectly honest though, rereading it, I swear this is the best story I have ever invented! It has a heartrending blend of tragedy, poignant poetic justice, subplot causality, and social commentary and contains few of the traps I sometimes fall into like cheap shock and subplots going nowhere. I really wish I could do something with this narrative now
And I’ll count the hefty handful of TV scripts I’ve written in an effort to practice and hone my scriptwriting skills. All but the last one of these are hypothetical new seasons of real anime:
Blue Exorcist s2 - 1 episode. My attempt to write the Impure King arc, years before they actually produced the Impure King arc. This was not my best work
Noragami: God’s Secret - 2 episodes for a manga-based Season 3. These were pretty decent imo
Oofuri/Big Windup: The Coming of Fall - 17 episodes. I got really into this one. A speculative season 3 assuming three cours (imo we probably won’t be blessed with that many episodes if season 3 comes), covering everything up until the end of the fall tournament. The first 13 episodes covered the story up to chapter 84 minus the Kasukabe match, followed by an OVA (ep 13.5), and then I was working on the Kasukabe match told in hindsight before planning to continue with the big game of the fall prelims. The third cour would have covered the fall tournament itself
Mekakucity Actors XX - 4 episodes. My own idea for a season 2/alternate ending. Because I was very conflicted with how the anime ended
School Babysitters - this was an original episode idea for Gakuen Babysitters that I enjoyed writing very much but turned out too long (40 pages) and features the babies turning into insects. I wouldn't mind publishing it somewhere actually!
I am going to tag @wire-pudding and @kemoiunder! Anyone else who reads this and wants to explore the abyss that is non-started WIPs, be my guest too!

My Writing--a review of 2017
Wow, I can’t believe it’s already time for this! This year literally like...just started I swear lol. I’m really excited to make this post though, because I feel like I was really productive for the majority of the year! I joined a new fandom, and I’ve started a lot of new projects, so I’m really proud of myself! I’d like to thank @emeraldwaves for being with me every step of the way, reading and editing all my stories no matter the fandom <3 And also, thanks to everyone who has supported my writing this year! I answered most of these questions on twitter, but I wanted to make a tumblr post too heh ^^’’
total number of completed stories
27 fics omg *_* Most of them are from haikyuu!! but there are a few I finished for K project as well! In addition I have 2 stories that are ongoing ^^
total word count
269, 481 holy fuck lol. I beat my last year count (219k)! I’m so happy with myself lmao but part of me is also determined to beat that next year already lol
fandoms written in
K Project, Haikyuu!! and BNHA!
looking back, did you expect to write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected?
Oh definitely more lmao, I hadn’t expected to get involved in a new fandom so passionately tbh, but once I found kurotsuki/iwaoi I just started having so many ideas and it just made me write like mad. Also, I participated in a lot more events (zines, exchanges, etc) this year, so that definitely helped!
what’s your own favorite story of the year?
I’d have to say Let My Love is my favorite by far lmao It’s a lot different from what I normally like to write. It’s also my first attempt at slow burn/relationship angst so it’s just really fun to explore. The plot is also super close to my heart so yeah, I put a lot of effort into that fic.
did you take any writing risks this year?
Writing anything feels like a risk to me but yeah I definitely stepped out of my comfort zone a lot this year! I tried to experiment with my writing style and plots, because I wanted to challenge myself to write a variety of things. It could be so damn frustrating sometimes but it’s worth it in the end!
do you have any fanfic or profit goals for the new year?
Mainly I hope to finish both of my multichapters lmao but I also want to try writing a fic in full before posting, and I want to participate in more fandom events! I’ve always wanted to collab with someone too, so maybe this will be the year!
best story of the year?
Best story in terms of writing is probably Perfectly Aligned?? My beta told me it’s some of the best writing I’ve ever done so I trust her lmao and I love pacific rim aus so it was fun, if not a little painful to write ha
most popular story of the year?
Slipping Underneath, without a doubt lol. I did not expect it to be so well liked tbh, but as of right now it has 339 kudos and 66 bookmarks, which is...wow. I am so happy people like it so much!
story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Hmm not too many of my fics have done terribly, but I think Ceaseless and Perfectly Aligned are both overlooked. Probably because one is a rarepair and one is just really long but I am actually proud of both so please read them if you like kiyoyachi or pacific rim aus!
most fun story to write:
Most fun fic to write is Slipping Underneath just because I’m a modern mythology nerd LOL It’s awesome to world build and explore the legend of sirens and how they’ve continued to survive into the modern world with all these various problems lol
story with the single sexiest moment:
I don’t write a lot of porn anymore honestly lol which is a huge difference from last year pft, but I’d say when you’re hittin’ it has a lot of sexy moments, also I’m all for the idea of Tsukki giggling during sex lol
sweetest story:
COMFORT KISSES. -cough- yeah...what’s sweeter than eskimo kisses tho??
“holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you!” story:
I don’t think I had one of these fics this year, not in the nsfw department at least lmao.
story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
Perfectly Aligned mostly because I got to give Kuroo a bit of a tragic backstory, as opposed to Tsukki, and I got to explore his character from a more weak/hopeless point of view. Writing Kuroo has always been more of a challenge for me, so having a fic with a lot of his pov was interesting and eye opening ^^
most unintentionally telling story:
Let My Love OR hopping into puddles, since I deal with a lot of themes in each that are really important to me. Insecurity, denial, conflict...I didn’t mean to dig so deep in some scenes but it sorta happens LOL
hardest story to write:
Uh any fic that was iwaoi LOL probably I Search Through the Crowd in particular. I just struggle a lot with iwaoi idk why, it’s probably just from a lack of practice.
biggest disappointment:
I didn’t have many big disappointments this year, I’m more just upset that I didn’t write as much as I could’ve towards the end of the year. Like I wrote a lot more overall than I expected, but I hit a slump around November that kinda killed my muse for any of my own ideas, and I’m still sorta in it lmao. But for the most part, it was a great writing year!
biggest surprise:
Once again, the response I’ve gotten on all my fics has been amazing and more than I could’ve imagined! Especially since joining a new fandom, I didn’t think I’d get much attention at first, but people have been so nice and encouraging! I’m really thankful for all the kudos and comments I’ve gotten as well as the support from both twitter and tumblr. I can’t thank everyone enough!

2017 Writing Round-Up
source
Total year-long word count: 90303
Word count by fandom:
BNHA: 4891, 4 fics DGM: 3414, 2 fics Haikyuu!!: 81998, 36 fics
Fics completed:
39/42
Works-in-progress:
3/42 - Of Demons & How to Chase Them | twenty-four hours | for the voiceless (though this one... is debatable) crossfire is also, technically, a wip. but at the same time... it's not, lol.
This year I wrote and posted:
Timeless: 4 Across the Ages At Sunrise Back Home Beyond Nightfall
soft kitty warm kitty: 2 cat that got the cream catching catnaps
writing with snowdrops & others: 21 the little bits and pieces of this world with nothing in our hands Of Demons & How to Chase Them (DGM, chapter 3) on eggshells crossfire Runaways (chapter 2) Role of a Captain People You May Know forever is a mighty long time one-way ticket destination: forever the longest, darkest night the weight of you (DGM) cold (BNHA) safe (BNHA) twenty-four hours herding cats (BNHA) for the voiceless molten gold spring (BNHA) when I think of winter
SASO: 15 the owl and the duckbutt at the end of the world terms and conditions count on me, count on you best-kept secret light years from home (you) fear and bravery midwinter silence two chairs to a table crying is contagious phantom passing the baton control, and the lack thereof mirror
Total: 40 fics + two updates to old fics
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
At the start of 2017, I wrote on Lofter and Tumblr that my target would be to hit 60 published works on AO3 by the end of the year. I have 79 now, so I wrote twice as much as what I was aiming to. I definitely didn't expect to write so much, and I have SASO to blame (thank?).
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
Anything to do with the Miyas (duh!)... and also Seijou. But I guess the one that I would have never expected myself to write would be Matsu//hana: I wrote one-way ticket on a bus ride home after reading chapter 258. I hardly ever read Matsu//hana fic, much less ever feel inspired to write it, so one-way ticket really caught me off-guard.
What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
I thought about this question for a long time and skipped ahead to answer a few before I came back to this. At first I thought it was a really hard choice to make - how can you ask me to choose a story out of all 40 that I've written this year? - but then I realised the answer's always been really clear.
It's the weight of you, my Laviyuu fic based off of Vienna Teng's Enough to Go By. I wrote it in one sitting, with hardly any problems in terms of storyline or thematic exploration. it was one of those fics that just. came to me and let me embrace it. half a year later, I'm still incredibly proud of what I achieved in that meagre expanse of 1000 words. once in a while when I need to be reminded of what my writing can achieve, I reread it.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I signed up for SASO. I was definitely not planning to write as much as I did, LOL. It taught me how to write fast, and to not be as hung up over the editing as I always do. I'm a slow writer because I like to write and edit at the same time, but with SASO it was just writing and minimal editing. I also got a bit more comfortable with working with prompts, though I'm still terrible at it.
I also signed up for two zines this year, one of which was for Kacchako, a pair I'd never written before. And to top it off, I was struck by writer's block when I was working on my submission. I don't know, it taught me to not sign up for zines when I'm drowning in schoolwork and that impulsive decisions are never a great idea (but are they really?).
Your best story of this year:
What's the difference between favourite story, best story and most popular story? I'd say it's either the weight of you or molten gold. the former for reasons stated in the earlier question, but molten gold because it's a fic that clearly shows how far I've come in writing ever since I started writing for HQ last year. when drawn parallel to Storm, my first Noya character study (and my second ever HQ fic), the difference is stark. It's still not perfect, and there are still things I wish I could've included, but I'm proud of what I achieved in it.
Your most popular story of this year:
By 'most popular' I'm assuming most kudos.
herding cats for BNHA and overall, and the little bits and pieces of this world for Haikyuu!! - neither of which are surprising results.
herding cats is a lighthearted and fun fluffy piece written for a ship that is gaining traction in a very thirsty fandom, while bits and pieces has the HQ fandom favourite trope of enemies to friends to lovers, and the benefit (?) of it running parallel to canon story.
Story of yours most under-appreciated by the universe, in your opinion:
At Sunrise. previously I would've said Across the Ages, but as I read and reread my old works, I've come to realise that At Sunrise is a piece that delves very deeply into the emotions of my characters, and really builds up an emotional bond not just between my characters, but also between my story and my readers. The amount of actual emotional pain that I inflicted on myself while writing it really shows in my writing, and my readers can feel it too.
I get why people don't read it. I really do. I've said it before, a few times now. Major character death scares a lot of readers away. Being a fantasy AU, and a Part 2 in a series turns people off. And it's Kage//hina, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it being a major ship means that a huge amount of the people who click in soon find that they're not here for this content.
Even so, I still think it deserves better.
I published it on April 1. It's December 28 now, and these are its stats.
Hits: 614 | Kudos: 37
Go figure. *salt
Most fun story to write:
Honestly, any story with Futakuchi as a narrator is great. It's a toss-up between when I think of winter and People You May Know. with nothing in our hands comes close as a runner-up though.
Story with the single sexiest moment:
You're asking me, a writer who can't even write kissing scenes, about a sexiest moment...??? I guess it'd be Back Home, if only because it's the fic with the most snogging.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
mirror. It's not wrong per se, just not what I would have usually done for a Haikyuu fic. I think a lot of readers were taken aback by its hidden twist.
Story that shifted your own perceptions of the characters:
I don't really have an answer to this. It might be cold, my first ever Todo//baku. Writing it gave me a lot of insights into the Tod//obaku dynamic and understanding them better, but shifting my perception? I'd be hard-pressed to name it as such.
Hardest story to write:
on eggshells, At Sunrise, midwinter and molten gold. The first two because of how emotionally taxing they were, the latter two because of how difficult they were to actually write. I set out on each of these stories with a clear image of how I wanted to end it, but the process of going from start to finish was a long, long winding road, whether in picking the words that I needed to evoke the exact nuance and atmosphere I wanted to portray, or in letting myself hurt for my characters as I wrote. Sounds dramatic, but unfortunately true.
Biggest disappointment:
I hate to say it, but, Beyond Nightfall. I feel like I could have done a lot a lot a lot more with it, but I also don't know what exactly I could have done. I realised my biggest problem with writing longfic manifested when I was writing Beyond Nightfall - the incessant need to make everything tie up perfectly, which on hindsight was not the best decision because it made everything too neat, and also forced my story in a way that it didn't necessarily want to go.
Moving forward, I hope I can work on this (I've already started to do so starting with when I think of winter) and I eventually plan to come back and rewrite Beyond Nightfall.
Biggest surprise:
forever is a mighty long time. I'd been toying with the idea of a reincarnation AU for Kuroyaku for the longest time, but never really wanted to actually start on it (...as is the case for 80% of all my fic ideas...) because I'm not a fan of writing tropey AUs (oh, look at that holier-than-thou attitude in that sentence LMAO JK). But when inspiration struck for me to put a twist on what would otherwise have been a very standard reincarnation AU piece, I decided to sit down and get to work on it.
Looking back, it's a good fic. not my best, but it's good.
Most unintentionally telling story:
on eggshells. It wasn't unintentionally telling, though. It was intentional, every bit of it. eggshells was the first time I dared to dig deep within myself to write a story based off my own emotional experiences, and while I found it cathartic, it's certainly not something I hope to replicate anytime soon.
Favorite opening line(s):
Futakuchi was not pining. He was absolutely not pining over Karasuno's vice-captain with the shaved head and rumpled training vest - what the hell, they even shared the same number, ew. - People You May Know
Favorite closing line(s):
kuroo stretches a little, his toes touching the calf of yaku’s leg, warm, solid and present, and very much alive. very much here. “yeah, i know.” - forever is a mighty long time
And the worst part of it all is that when he looks into the shards of broken silver lying on his bedroom floor, he still can’t stop seeing ‘Samu looking right back at him. - mirror
But in fact there is nothing much to say at all, when those shoulders that have been tempered with fire are more than capable of holding its weight. - molten gold
Favorite 5 line(s) from anywhere:
Moonlight scatters on the floorboards, a miniature Milky Way filling the space between them, but Yaku takes a step, then another, and then he’s falling into Kuroo’s arms, no longer a cold ephemeral spectre for Kuroo to gaze at from afar, like the twinkling stars through window grilles, but a warm, solid and real body that fits right against Kuroo’s own, a puzzle piece slotting back into place. - midwinter
And he would have liked to think himself invulnerable, with a mask stoic enough that nothing could shatter, a heart cold enough that nothing could touch, disillusioned with the evils of humanity that he had borne witness to. - the weight of you
where issei would usually retort with some comeback about takahiro’s birthday, today there is only silence. the train pulls to a stop, doors beeping an arrhythmic melody as their knees knock together with the movement. issei’s pulled out his phone now, the bend of his arms making his elbow dig into takahiro’s side; takahiro wonders if he, like him, is trying to feign deafness to the echoing chasm that seems to have opened up between them over the course of five sentences. - one-way ticket
His hands clutch at his throat, run ragged and raw by the smoothness of poppy petals. What an apt irony then that poppies should signify peace, because Aone is and has always been the peaceful, stoic rock to the swirling tempest that Kenji is, but their mere existence is doing the exact opposite in calming Kenji’s raging heart, their stem a noose around his neck. - fear and bravery
He takes a deep breath, and steps onto the court, into the fray. He can feel eyes on him - from his teammates, from his opponents, from the stands. The numbers on his jersey feel like they’re branding himselves into his back, and he squares his shoulders, embracing the burn. He’s not Nekoma’s number 3, but he’s Nekoma’s number 12, and he’ll show them what it means to be Nekoma’s libero - what it means to be guarding Nekoma’s backs. - passing the baton
Top 5 scenes from anywhere you would choose to have illustrated:
Lavi in front of Kanda's grave, at the remains of the old Black Order - the weight of you
Kuroo and Yaku doing work at the kitchen table, their legs barely touching - forever is a mighty long time
Oikawa and Futakuchi in front of the irori - when I think of winter
The moment when Shirabu and Kawanishi realise that Futakuchi's read the map upside down and they're now hopelessly lost - with nothing in our hands
Hinata, through Kageyama's eyes, when he tells Kageyama that he won't forget him - At Sunrise
Fic-writing goals for next year:
15 fics in total. It's a downsize from this year because the first half of next year will be occupied by uni and transition into adulting, so I don't want to give myself too much pressure. I'm still on the fence about signing up for SportsFest (SASO's successor) but I'll think about that when I get there.
I'm also going to take a break from fandom events for the time being. I've learnt from this year that I write terribly when given deadlines, and I admit that it was bad planning on my part to sign up for HQSS and a zine on top of my own schoolwork, especially when I was already taking a module on creative writing. Creative drought hit fast and furious and made the last two months terrible for me, writing-wise. Next year, I want to make sure that I can give my writing the due time and effort that it deserves, rather than forcing myself to churn out work.
Most importantly, I want to keep growing as a writer. I'm happy with how my style has developed this year, and I want to continue growing. Besides improving my dialogue writing and visual descriptions, I also want to venture into writing more challenging AUs and also characters that I've never dared to try.
I also want to attempt long fic, in particular the fic that I'd outlined for Nanowrimo this year but never had the chance to start on. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that I'd make that Nano fic my year-long project for next year, except I don't know if I'll actually be able to make it draw out for as long as I want it to, and also because I doubt my discipline in sticking it out with one single work for a whole year.
Besides all that, I'll be slowly chipping away at making the Kuroyaku anthology a reality. That means REWRITE REWRITE REWRITE. With writing style changes come inconsistency in storytelling. I think I need to find some time and give myself the chance to standardise everything, and fix any glaring errors I might find.
We shall see. 2017 has been a fantastic year for me in fandom, both in writing and in finding a community. I hope 2018 is even better.

for the letter asks, how about doing all of them? :D 💜
Thank you and ahhh that’s so much but tbh I like these asks so I’m excited to and I will haha :’D 💜
A - Ships that you currently like a lot. (They don’t have to be OTPs because not everyone has OTPs.) Friendships, pairings, threesomes, etc. are allowed.
Wow that’s way too many but my current favs would have to be Bakushima, KamiSero, OchaMomo, OchaMina, Momojirou, OjiroTooru and Todoiideku. From fandoms other than BNHA my current favs also include KidoMomo, Klance, PreciousMetalShipping, Jadeshipping, Originalshipping, TeruMob, Hector/Eliwood, Florina/Lyn, Soriku and idk there’s lots more but I’m too lazy to list everything rip.
B - A pairing–platonic, romantic or sexual–that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind.
Every day I fall farther into TodoKami hell. TogaOchaMina which I blame you for haha. OchaJirou which I blame my sister for. IzuMina which I saw in a fanfic and it was actually really adorable. A lot of BNHA rarepairs tbh
C - A ship you have never liked and probably never will.
Kacchako and KatsuDeku. I have nothing against people who ship these, and I’m not gonna hate on these ships, I personally just don’t ship them.
D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t.
Not really anything? I’m chill with most ships even those I don’t like as long as they aren’t adult/child ships or sibling ships. So there’s no ship out there I wish I liked that I don’t already
E - Have you added anything cracky/hilarious to your fandom? If so, what?
I used to write so many crack Kingdom Hearts fics omg. And I guess It’s Murder Time and Group Chat With the Girls would be considered crack fics for BNHA haha
F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom?
I’ve been in the Kingdom Hearts fandom since like middle school. Same with PokeSpe
G - Have you ever had an OTP? If so, do you remember your first one? Who was in it?
Way too many rip. First OTP was probably Soriku if I’m remembering correctly or PreciousMetalShipping
H - What is your favorite source text for fandom stuff (e.g., TV shows, movies, books, anime, Western animation, etc.)?
Anime but there is a lot of books I do like
I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?
Not really because I just kinda ignore the drama/discourse ^^’
J - Name a fandom you didn’t think about until you saw it all over Tumblr. (You don’t have to care about it or follow it; it just has to be something that Tumblr made you aware of.)
I can’t recall off the top of my head? Yuri on Ice, I think? Mob Psycho 100 as well I think I saw some art of it and was like oh I wonder what that is, it looks cool
K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?
Teru and Dimple from Mob Psycho 100, I went from hating them at the beginning of the season to loving them by the end. In my opinion, from what I’ve read at least since I haven’t read all the manga, all the PokeSpe characters have amazing character development. Katsuki Bakugou from BNHA has good character development in my opinion as well because even if it’s slow, it’s realistic development.
L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves. (Characters you’re neutral about are fair game, as are characters you merely dislike. Characters that you absolutely loathe with the fire of ten thousand suns are exempt, as there is no point in giving yourself an aneurysm over a character that you hate.)
Kouda from BNHA deserves more love. Such a sweet boy. He’s never done anything wrong in his life. Loves animals, has a pet bunny, terrified of bugs. He’s freaking adorable and he deserves more love.
M - Name a character that you’d like to have for a friend.
All the BNHA girls would be amazing friends. Kirishima and Tokoyami would be really good friends to have as well, I think
N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).
I wish I saw more content for rarepairs in BNHA particularly f/f ships but that’s just because I’m a slut for BNHA f/f rarepairs. Other than that, nothing really?? The fandom’s pretty good, like everyone is really nice I’ve met and there’s so many good artists and writers. Same with most of my fandoms tbh
O - Choose a song at random. Which ship or character does it remind you of?
My sister is playing Hamilton and it’s making me think of musicals so let’s go with Freeze Your Brain from Heathers and Tododeku because for some reason I can see a Heathers Tododeku AU?
P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas).
*Cracks knuckles* I love AUs. Let’s see…Maze Runner AU for BNHA. The kids are all in the maze together, and Deku shows up and he’s the last one and doesn’t have a quirk unlike the rest. There’s also a group B which is Class 1B.
Q - A fandom you’ve abandoned and why.
I haven’t really abdonded any tbh. Sometimes I forget about fandoms but I always return to them once I remember rip
R - Which friendship/platonic relationship is your favorite in fandom?
I really like Bakugou/Ochako friendship and Mina/Kirishima friendship
S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon (prompts optional but encouraged)
Ahh let’s see…Random headcanons…Ok let’s just go with I have headcanon sexualities for all of BNHA Class 1A, and I headcanon Jirou as bi but leans towards girls and ace.
T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending?
All of Class 1A is super close, and they have a group chat. Fight me on this. There’s no way not one person in the class was like hey lets make a group chat for everyone. Also Kaminari spams it with memes. (The girls probably have a separate one too lol)
U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.
Let’s see…I really love Reigen from Mob Psycho 100 because he’s hilarious and such a great character. Kido from Kagerou Days because she’s really cool and sweet and I love her. Ahh if I have to choose Momo from BNHA because she’s really nice and smart, and I just really like her character and quirk but also Iida because I really love him too, he’s really funny and sweet
V - Which character do you relate to most?
That’s tough…I have a lot of characters I kinda relate to rip. I relate to Roxas from KH a lot for some reason because my friend and I always joke we’re like Axel and Roxas, and it kinda became a nickname for me. I also relate to Suga from Haikyuu a lot because I’m like him personality wise and I also relate to how he loves the sport he does and cares a lot for the underclassmen but also sometimes feels surpassed by them. Also from BNHA I’m kinda conflicted because I relate to a few characters? I kinda relate to Mina, Momo and Ochako tbh like different parts of their characters and stuff
W - A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom.
I can’t think of one of the top of my head? If love triangles count as a trope then that
X - A trope which you are almost certain to love in any fandom.
Again I can’t really think of one off the top of my head ^^’
Y - What are your secondhand fandoms (i.e., fandoms you aren’t in personally but are tangentially familiar with because your friends/people on your dash are in them)?
Tbh most of the time if a fandom keeps showing up on my dash, I get into it lol. I guess Steven Universe since I haven’t seen all the episodes and I’m not like too into it but I do still like it?
Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go! (Prompts optional but encouraged.)
Ahh let’s see. I don’t know why but lately I’ve been really into BNHA. Like I have other fandoms I love as well, but my main focus keeps returning to BNHA. I still love my old fandoms like KH and PokeSpe and like I keep having brief fandom moments with Fire Emblem SoV and Kagerou Days which I still love as well, but BNHA has just become my main fandom and I find the characters from it the most fun and easiest to write askjddja
