Hello! It's my first time doing requests, so I'm sorry if i bother you!
Can I request for a William Moriarty x Fem!Reader fluff headcanon during cold weather? It can be either rainy days or winter days! Or maybe both haha. Please make it super fluffy and warm!
Thanks a lot, have a nice day~
★ winter + rainy days hc's with william
Tumblr media
a/n: HEYEYE!! i'm not fully back yet! just clearing up my requests so i won't have a tough time when my break finishes :) + its not a bother at all!
pairings: william j. moriarty x fem!reader (i said fem!reader but all i'm doing is using ‹you's› 😭
Tumblr media
❄️;; winter —
✧ william always has your hands stuffed inside the pockets of his coat whenever the two of you are walking side by side. he'll interlace your fingers w/ his as well.
“there we go.” he tucks your hand inside of his pocket, intertwining your hands. “much better.”
✧ he finds it absolutely endearing how your cheeks look rosy due to the cold weather. he'll cup your red-tinted cheeks in his slender hands and press warm kisses on the tip of your nose.
“you're as adorable as always, my dear.”
✧ william likes taking you out on little walks in the snow, then stopping by a quaint little cafe or restaurant for some hot chocolate, coffee or tea.
✧ plus, he loves watching your face light up as you take a sip of your hot drink. (softly swipes away at the froth that's settled over your lips w a small chuckle!!)
✧ william is somewhat a worrywart when it comes to you so he'll always be wrapping you in the most outrageously large scarves and clothes until you've burst out laughing and telling him how you feel like an abominable snowman.
“now now, darling, we can't have you catching a cold, can we?”
✧ when the windows are fogged from the freezing temperature, the two of you will be sitting together by the windows; lazily playing tic-tac-toe on the glass, of course, until you get fired up because of the constant losses while playing w/ him.
“mm? another round? are you sure?”
Tumblr media
☔;; monsoon —
✧ william tends to get a little lazier during the rainy season so he's always pulling you back to bed, mumbling sleepily for five more minutes w/ you.
✧ he enjoys listening to you while enjoying something steaming hot (tea, stew, hotpot wtv!!). he'll silently tuck a few strands of stray hair behind your ear with the most fond expression on his face as he listens to you babble.
“aha. is that right?”
✧ there was a time the two of you went waltzing under the rain and it's absolutely, utterly engraved inside of his brain. sometimes when it's raining, he'll look at you from the corner of his eye expectantly - secretly wondering if that experience will happen once more. (will literally do his best to hide it when you ask, though)
“why am i staring? nothing, love. i'm merely thinking about how you're the best thing that's happened to me.”
✧ william likes reading books alongside you by the fireplace during rainy days. the two of you huddle up and share your warmth while enjoying hot chocolate together.
“shall we read together?”
✧ when the weather outside is frightful, there's nothing better than snuggling up with william underneath a pile of warm blankets. he'll hold you close, pressing kisses to your forehead as you drift off to sleep. (he might hum you to sleep too!!)
“shh. that's alright, we can talk more once you wake up.”
✧ he likes playing board games with you when the clouds are heavy. if the two of you are playing chess, he'll look at you with the softest of eyes, the slightest tilts of his head & the subtlest of smiles while you're focused on planning your next move on the chess board.
“how adorable you look when you're so terribly determined to beat me.”
✧ picks you up bridal style if you're trying to cross a puddle or something since he doesn't want your dress getting wet and dirty (assuming f!reader wears a dress since it's the 1900's)
✧ he holds the umbrella over your heads' while you're walking beside him. it doesn't matter if his arms are already laden with shopping bags and whatnot. he'll always shield you from the rain.
“join me, dear. i don't want you getting wet.”

Daryl x reader - take on the world together
Tumblr media
Part 6:
Following Daryl up to the watch tower, you sat down inside while he stood by the door leading to the platform.
“The boy?” He asked.
“Human if that’s what you’re wondering, it’s why I cover him in my jacket when we’re out, and keep him close.”
Daryl nodded.
“How did you really come across him?”
“I was looking for something to eat, it was the second week of the outbreak, I was in a small town looking for sick or injured stragglers left behind, the town had already been overrun by walkers.”
You sighed, and you pulled your knees into your chest, wrapping your arms around then.
“I couldn’t find anything, so I was getting ready to leave and I walked past this house, I heard crying coming from inside, so I walked inside. I walked to the basement door, two walkers were there, looking like they’d tried to get it over with before they were bitten, and they failed, turned anyways.”
Daryl glanced at you before looking out past the prison.
“I crushed their skulls, and I broke open the door, and downstairs was the little boy, huddled in the corner crying his eyes out, he’d hurt his leg trying to reach a window to climb out of. I’d never been one for humanity, but I couldn’t leave him there like that, so I brought him with me.”
You sighed.
“Turns out the walkers I killed was his parents, they wanted this little boy to survive on his own, they left him all alone. I wasn’t going to do that, so I packed a bag with food, and some of his stuff, took a couple of hunting knives and got the hell out of dodge.”
“How’d you know the walkers didn’t like you?”
“Well, you got all these dead things eating living things but none of them coming after me? That’s pretty concrete evidence you know?”
He scoffed, shaking his head.
“Why did the wounds close so quick?”
“Small wounds heal in seconds, larger ones would be minutes but without a good died I’d be looking at weeks, months even. As long as it doesn’t destroy my heart or brain I’ll always heal.”
He slowly nodded his head, sitting down in the doorway.
“What do you eat?”
“Same thing you guys do.”
He glared at you and you raised your hands.
“I’m telling the truth, I can eat anything you can providing I balance my diet. In order to be up to full strength, I need blood. We survive on human blood, but that doesn’t mean we need to kill in order to do it.”
“We? There’s more? Blood? You survive on fuckin’ blood and you expect me to just keep you around? Is that why you travel with the kid? A snack for later?!” He hissed.
You slammed your hand into the metal wall beside you, making it creek as you put a sizeable dent into it.
“Say that again I’ll take your heart out your chest…”
Daryl stared at you.
He just wanted to make sure everybody was going to be safe with you around, that spencer was safe around you.
Clearly you didn’t want to hurt Spencer, but he couldn’t be so sure about anybody else.
“I’m not going to feed on anybody, you guys have it tough as it is without being hunted down by more creatures. I go out, I find small wildlife, maybe a deer if there is one and I feed on them.”
“Why not feed in walkers, plenty of them running around.”
You scoffed a little shaking your head.
“I tried. I’d much rather drink a whole bottle of holy water than do that again, they taste like shit, like, you ever eaten rotten food? It’s basically the same. I’d have to eat before they turn, cause once they turn the disease or whatever it is destroys everything inside.”
Daryl thought about his next question for a moment.
“Can you tell if someone’s infected?”
You nodded.
“All humans are, I don’t know what it is, but since the outbreak the smell of human changed ever so slightly. No matter how you die, if the brain isn’t destroyed you come back, illness, a wound, bitten.”
You went quiet for a moment.
“I can tell if people are infected, sick with a cold or something, same with animals, can tell if they’re sick.”
“The fuck are you?”
“The original walking undead, vampire. Got no heartbeat, no blood pumping inside me, no body temperature, as cold as a corpse, don’t succumb to human illness, or wounds, or age, better senses, speed, strength. Whatever a human would need to survive this shit, I have.”
He slowly nodded, and he grabbed one of his arrows, stabbing you in the shoulder and you grabbed hold of his wrist.
You bared your fangs at him, red eyes meeting his.
He pulled the arrow out and you raised your hand to your shoulder, pulling it back to look at the blood.
“Then why’re you bleedin’?”
You placed your hand over your shoulder, feeling it already starting to heal.
“Still got blood dumbass, still falls out when I get stabbed. My body still holds blood, any I uh.. let’s just say drink, it gets absorbed into my own body, becoming my own meaning I’ll still have blood, it’s what helps me heal.”
You moved your hand from your shoulder, looking at your blood before you looked back at him, red eyes boring into his own.
You pushed yourself up, squinting a little as sun got in your eyes and you stepped back into the shade.
“The fuck is your problem now?”
“These eyes, the sunlight, they don’t really mix all that well. But you stabbed me, so I don’t really feel like relaxing.”
“Shit, if I wanted to kill you I woulda already dumbass.”
You shrugged a little, crouching down and resting your arms on your knees as you looked at him.
He never dared to turn his back on you, he wasn’t stupid, so, he kept his back on the doorframe.
You kept away from him, not wanting to risk your own life because one wrong move would be all it takes for him to kill you no hesitation.
You saw his gaze fixed outside and you placed your hands on your knees, pushing yourself up.
“What is it?” You asked.
“They’re pushing the fence again.”
Daryl stepped outside and you followed him, hand just above you eyes as you scanned over the walkers.
“You got another trick for this shit?”
You walked around, checking the other fences.
“It’s the smell, all these humans in one area, warm bodies, still alive, that’s what’s bringing them here. You could leave a walkers along the fence, dead ones but that would bring a smell.”
You ran a hand through your hair, and you glanced at him.
“I might be able to scatter some of my own blood, but with that many of you guys in there I just don’t think it’ll work all that ways. I can put some on a few trees.”
“The fuckin’ good is that gonna do?”
“Confused some hopefully, any that come straggling will smell me first, think it’s me and hopefully stay away. I need to know what time the guard changes though, I can go out, but only when I know it’s safe to come and go.”
“You think that’s gonna make me trust you dead ass?”
You shook your head.
“No, but Spencer is here. He’s happy, I want him to be safe. He asked me to help, I’ll help.”
“If he asked you to kill us?”
“If he had a good reason to, then I would kill you without hesitation. I will kill anybody who dares to put him in harms way, don’t mistake this for kindness Daryl, it’s not safe anywhere, he needs food, he needs water, he needs a shelter. That’s all.”
“You really takin’ orders for a kid?” He scoffed.
You said nothing and he shrugged a little bit.
“Fine, do it. I’m on watch tonight.”
You nodded, and you quickly left the watch tower, jogging back up the path to the courtyard.
Jogging up to the gate, you waited for it to open and you looked around.
“He’s inside with my dad.”
You nodded at Carl and made your way inside.
Walking into the cell block, you tried to find the man, and you looked up to the second floor to see him walking out of your cell with Spencer in his arms.
You took the stairs two at a time, and you stopped in front of him.
“He went to sleep, I think he had a nightmare or something he won’t say.”
“Spence?” You asked softly.
You placed your hand on his shoulder, and he spun around, tears on his face.
“Hey buddy, what’s with the tears?”
“You’re okay!”
He flung himself into your arms and you laughed softly, holding him closely, running a hand up and down his back.
“Of course I’m okay, nothings gonna happen to me, alright?”
He sniffled a little bit and nodded his head, and you smiled a little at Rick.
“Thank you…”
He placed a hand on your shoulder, moving past you.
For the rest of the day Spencer stuck closely to your side, and you waited for him to fall asleep before leaving the cell.
Jumping over the gate, you made your way to the bottom of the watch tower where Daryl was waiting for you.
I’ll take out as many as I can while I’m out there, but I’ll focus on creating a diversion.”
He nodded his head, handing you your knife.
“Show me how you get in and out.”
You nodded, gesturing for him to follow you, the pair of you jogging down the path to where two fences meet.
Putting the knife in your belt, you climbed part way up the fence, then you jumped to the next one, jumping over the barbed wire and you landed on your feet.
“Well shit…” he whispered.
“Would be easier if I could break the wire but security and all that, go back to the tower, I’ll come up when I’m done.”
“One wrong move.” He warned.
“Yeah yeah you’ll kill me good and proper.”
“Damn straight.”
You turned around to begin your work.
With the cover of darkness you had the ability to used your full speed, strength, whatever you could in order to get everything done.
You killed walkers, disposed the bodies as far as you could, scattering your blood along street and the top of some of the fences so they couldn’t see it.
You did some hunting, killing a few small animals so you could eat to regain some of the energy you were using.
You also found some scrap metal and brought it over, using it to fill some of the gaps in the fences, crushing them together.
When you were finished you jumped back over the fence, running to the watchtower before climbing up.
Daryl was stood at the top waiting for you.
“I’ve done what I can for now, and covered a few small gaps in the fence.”
He nodded his head.
“They’re going to ask about it.”
“Not my issue, it’s safe, all I care about. What did you see out there?”
“Not much, a few walkers, couple of animals, too many trees to be able to see properly and I was too busy with other shit.”
“Yeah, yeah.”
You walked over to the outside of the watchtower, slowly looking around.
For a human it was dark, and they wouldn’t be able to see much but you could see a lot more, you could see a few walkers wondering away, some a little curious but not wanting to come to close.
“It seems to be working.”
“Looks like it, guess you earned your keep for a while.”
You both went quiet for a few minutes, despite your efforts a few walkers could still smell the others inside.
“I don’t think it’s going to last for long, I’ll have to keep going out every few nights to kill them.”
“Don’t know why you’re telling me.”
“You’re the only one that knows, I want to keep it that way, I’ll need to match my time outside with your watches.”
“Oh hell nah, not a fuckin’ chance.”
You turned around.
“Daryl remember our deal, anybody else finds out I’m gone, you’re on your own. I can get to places you can’t, move faster, and move among the walkers. You. Need. Me.”
He grabbed you by the shirt, holding you over the edge of the tower, your cold hand gripped his wrist.
“We don’t need shit from a bitch like you…” he snarled.
“I could easily throw you off this building and to them walkers… nobody would ever find your body…”
“They’ll throw you and the boy out…”
You sneered, loosening your grip on his wrist and you help up your hands.
“Doesn’t change the fact I need to work on your watches…”
Daryl turned you around and threw you inside the tower.
“Fine, I don’t give a shit. Just get the fuck away from me.”
“No problem jackass.”
You left the tower, slowly making your way back towards the cell block, trying to contain your anger

Until I Met You - Chapter 1
Chapter 1: Introductions
Pairings: Halsin x Tav
Word count: 3,898
Rating: Currently M, will be Explicit in later chapters.
Read on AO3
Next
Summary: A slow burn Tav and Halsin romance fic about their relationship forming between the major events of Baldur's Gate 3, and probably a little bit after too. Explores Tav's friendships with some of the other companions, but mainly Karlach. Lots of longing and fluff, including plenty of soft Halsin moments.
Tags: Slow burn, hurt/comfort, love confessions, eventual smut, light angst, implied past rape/non-con
A/N: After starting another playthrough specifically to romance Halsin, I decided to write some additional details of how their relationship forms throughout the game. Not sure how many chapters there will be yet...we'll see where the game takes me :) There will be POVs from both Tav and Halsin throughout the fic. Enjoy!
The disgusting sight of the goblin camp was bested only by the smell that assaulted the group’s nostrils as they strolled through the mucked-up halls.
“Ugh, goblins are such vile little beasts. Remind me why we agreed to come here?” Tav could hear the eye roll in Astarion’s tone.
“Because Astarion, there’s a medically talented Archdruid who can maybe help rid us of these tadpoles who is being held and probably tortured by these little beasts.” She tried to keep her voice down but found it hard to stay quiet while keeping up with Astarion’s quips.
“Speak for yourself, my friend. My tadpole and I are getting along swimmingly. I can walk in the sun, wade through rivers, and enter any home I like. I’m living the dream.” He teased back at her.
“All good points. I’ll make sure to remind you of them when your skin is turning purple and sprouting tentacles.” She turned back with a smile just in time to catch Astarion’s playful glare.
“Hey soldier, eyes up. Archers on the beams.” Karlach had her eyes fixed above them on the two goblins patrolling the large chamber.
“Best exercise caution. I might remind you all that goblins come by dozens when one of those war drums sounds off.” Gale was clutching his staff with a white-knuckled grip.
They carefully continued exploring the unfamiliar temple, on the lookout for anything that could give them a clue to Halsin’s whereabouts. Tav had thought the mercenaries and tiefling refugees may have been exaggerating about the goblins. But now that they were here amid their den of depravity, she was starting to doubt the abilities of her party – and herself. The numbers alone were enough to overwhelm them even if Karlach could cleave three goblins at a time.
In one of the far corners, Astarion spotted a small path that wound around into a back room. There was a door guarded by a few goblins, but they were able to pass by them easily while still passing as ‘True Souls.’ The air around them somehow smelled worse as they walked into the next room. The mix of decaying flesh and the worg pens caused them all to gag slightly. Several small laughs and squeals drew their attention towards another prison cell, inside was a very large cave bear. Two young goblins were throwing stones at the bear huddled in the corner of the cage. Tav quickly and quietly cast Speak with Animals just as the bear’s eyes locked on to hers.
“Stop them…free me.” The bear growled. Listening to its voice, Tav noticed the smallest tone difference between this bear and other animals she had spoken to in the past. Given Rath’s description of Halsin, she was almost certain this bear was the Archdruid they had been searching for.
“Again! Again!” One of the young goblins squealed, picking up another rock. Tav jogged up to them.
“He’s helpless! Let him go.” She demanded.
“Tav, what are you doing? We can’t stop to help every furry creature in need.” Astarion didn’t even try to hide his disapproval. She turned around to glare at him and called on their shared tadpole.
“Astarion! Use whatever piece of your brain the tadpole hasn’t eaten yet. This is obviously Halsin from the Emerald Grove.” She held her glare until he seemed to understand their situation. He let out an exaggerated sigh and backed off.
Gale groaned behind her, realizing that they were probably going to be fighting off the several goblins and worgs in the room with them.
“The beast is stayin’ right ‘ere.” The older goblin responded, taking a step towards Tav.
“I’m ending this. Now.” She growled back. The bear let out a small roar in response.
“Time for blood.” Its voice was a low snarl.
Before she had a chance to react, the cave bear rammed into the cell doors, effortlessly breaking them from their hinges. The older goblin was crushed beneath the heavy iron, causing a scream from the two younger ones.
“The guards! Get the guards!” One of the little ones yelled. They both turned to run past Tav and her party.
“Those little brats are going to bring this whole fucking camp down on us!” Astarion yelled, daggers twirling in his hands.
“Then take care of it you whiny prick!” Tav yelled back at him, lunging for the goblin that was looking after the worgs. Karlach followed suit, jumping back up the stairs to swing at a goblin that had been butchering some suspicious looking meat.
“We’re killing children now?!” Gale cried from the top of the stairs. A thin line of ice shot from his hands to the goblin archer approaching them from the rear.
“Goblin children, darling. Hardly a moral dilemma.” Astarion responded, driving his dagger into the chest of the first young goblin.
“Perhaps but still, I think we should discuss –” Gale started to respond but let out a strangled yell that interrupted him. When Tav looked back she saw an arrow sticking out of his neck, and blood was starting to spew from his mouth. Another arrow suddenly struck him in the chest. He made a small choking sound before collapsing to the floor.
“Shit! Gale’s down!” Tav yelled. When she turned away, the goblin she was fighting tried to make a swipe at her but was quickly taken down by the cave bear that had rushed to her side.
“He’s going to have to wait! We can’t risk these little monsters alerting the rest of the camp.” Astarion was slicing his blade across the throat of the other young goblin.
Tav drew her bow and shot two arrows into the worg pens, easily landing the shots right between their eyes. She could hear Gale’s labored breaths, the sound was warped by the blood spilling into his throat. Karlach took her goblin out with one more clean swing of her axe and turned to the archer.
“I’ll get Gale, take that archer down!” Tav yelled. The others all moved in to surround the last goblin as Tav dashed over to him. She quickly looked him over, ready to remove the arrow in his neck so she could heal him. Before she could start the spell, she heard one last raspy gurgle come from Gale before his body went limp.
“Fuck.” Tav whispered under her breath. She pulled her pack to the front of her waist and started frantically searching through it. They had found a couple of revivification scrolls on their journey that she was certain she had stored in her pack somewhere. Just as she started to search through the pockets, the air around her became thick with the smell of death.
“What the…” She started to exclaim before she became horribly sick, necrotic energy swirled all around her. Startled and struggling to breathe, she jumped back a few feet away from Gale’s body, allowing her to cough the toxic air from her lungs.
The last goblin’s body fell to the floor with a soft thud. Karlach and Astarion walked back down to join Tav, examining Gale and the small cloud of death encircling his lifeless body.
“Terribly tragic, always a sad day when you lose a friend. Oh well, best we keep moving before these goblins catch wind of our little fight.” Astarion said, waving his hand in the air nonchalantly and starting to walk away.
“Astarion…” Tav grumbled and turned to shoot him a warning glare. He smiled sweetly in response.
Before they could say anything else, an illusion of Gale popped up in front of Tav, causing a small scream to escape her lips.
“Well met! I am a magical projection of Gale of Waterdeep, and if you see this manifestation, that means I have prematurely perished.”
“Oh for fucks’ sake Gale…” Tav pressed one hand to her forehead, already exasperated by Gale’s afterlife theatrics.
“…it is of vital importance that my death be remedied at your earliest convenience.”
“How am I supposed to bring you back then?” Tav asked, annoyed.
The three of them sat and listened to Gale’s projection list a very detailed description of his security protocol to receive a scroll of true resurrection. First, they had to retrieve a small pouch from his robes which Astarion deftly picked from his pocket. To open the pouch, they had to unwind the purple cord in a counterclockwise motion. Inside, they found a small flute and a folded letter with notes in the corners that they would have to play. Next, a magma mephit was supposed to appear and pose the question ‘I’ss k’cha t’chiss n’aga’ to which the answer should be K’ha’ssji’trach’ash. The mephit would then give them the scroll.
“Well shit.” Tav muttered. “Does anyone know how to play a flute?”
Karlach and Astarion shrugged in response, the panic they felt evident on their faces.
“I at least caught the mephit name!” Karlach offered.
“Gods above, Gale!” Tav yelled. “What are the chances that whoever you’re dying around knows how to play a fucking flute?!” She waved the small instrument in front of the projection’s face, whose expression didn’t change. While she continued berating the magical illusion in front of her, she failed to hear the magical whoosh behind her.
“…and even if we do figure this out, it won’t matter! Because I’m going to punch you so hard that I send you in to the beyond again! And then I’ll revive you, just to choke the life out of you so we get to do this shitshow all over again!” Tav was stomping and screaming at the projection now. She noticed Karlach and Astarion staring past her, bewildered looks on both of their faces. Was Astarion…blushing?
“Excuse me,” A deep voice called out from behind her, “perhaps I could be of some assistance? It’s the least I could do.” She could only assume it belonged to Halsin.
“Look, I know we came here to free you and all and yes, we will need your help but right now our melodramatic friend has…” She had whipped around ready to tear into the mysterious addition to their group, but her breath caught once she was able to fully look at the Archdruid.
Tav wasn’t sure what she had been expecting to see when they met Halsin, but it certainly wasn’t the large, handsome elf standing in front of her. She was rather large for an elf, but Halsin made her feel tiny. Her mouth was hanging open, unable to form words as she stared him down. His smile was enchanting, his tanned skin covered in blood from their fight.
“I owe you my thanks, I am the druid Halsin. I did not expect to meet the acquaintance of someone who would not only speak with a bear, but free it too. I’m always happy to meet another true friend of nature. And you are?”
“I’m…” Tav sputtered, “…single.” Her voice was barely a whisper. She shook her head to regain some semblance of composure. She could hear Astarion giggling like a child behind her.
“Tav…my name is Tav.” She finally blurted out.
“Oakfather preserve you, Tav. Now I’d be happy to…”
Halsin was speaking but she wasn’t really listening to his words. She saw that he was holding his hand out to her. Without thinking, she placed her hand in his and gave a soft handshake, interrupting him. He gave her a confused look, still smiling.
“As I was saying, I know how to play the flute if that would help to resurrect your friend.” He was still smiling at her.
Tav’s face and chest turned a deep red and she yanked her hand back quickly. Astarion burst out laughing behind her, almost falling over. Karlach at least had the decency to try and cover her laugh. She handed over the small flute and quickly unfolded the paper, holding it in front of her face to try and hide her blush.
“Okay so his instructions said to play the notes listed in the corners of the pages, starting in the bottom right, and working our way around the page clockwise. I’ll read them off to you. Ready?” She asked, peeking over the page at Halsin. He gave a small nod, flute held up to his lips.
“D…” The first note floated through the air.
“E…” Halsin switched gracefully to the next note.
“A…” Another note rang in across the room. Tav paused before reading the last note, fighting the urge to roll her eyes.
“…D…” The last note echoed off the walls slightly mixing with the groans of her companions. Of course his resurrection tune spelled out ‘dead.’
A small magma mephit appeared in front of them.
“I’ss k’cha t’chiss n’aga.” He asked.
“K’ha’ssji’trach’ash!” Karlach responded, excited to help.
“D’a jah’jah s’um!” The mephit leaned forward as Tav held the folded paper in front of her. The small note transformed into an ornate scroll. She turned back to Gale as the mephit vanished.
Tav read the incantation and felt a warm swirling energy gather around her. It was quickly transferred to Gale who disappeared momentarily. He reappeared in front of her, standing and gasping for air. His hands shot up to his neck, feeling the area where the arrow had pierced him. Then he started laughing.
“You did it! Oh it feels good to be alive. I’m sorry to say my hands are still quite cold, so a handshake will have –” Gale was interrupted by Tav punching him in the gut, letting out a loud grunt.
“That was for your ridiculous protocol. What if we couldn’t find someone who could have played the flute? What if you had died and we weren’t around? We need to do something about that orb, Gale.” Tav was yelling again, she wasn’t truly angry with him though. She had come to like Gale, seeing him dead had upset her more than she cared to admit.
“You know the volatility of my condition, Tav. The element of mystery helps persuade others to keep me amongst the living. Sore abdominals aside…I sincerely thank you.” He wheezed back.
“You’re welcome,” Tav sighed, “and welcome back.” She nudged his arm slightly.
“Thank you for your help.” Tav looked back over to Halsin. “I suppose proper introductions are in order.” She wanted to put her embarrassing display from earlier behind her.
“This is Gale, that’s Karlach back there, and Astarion standing next to her.” She pointed to each of her companions as she introduced them. Karlach waved enthusiastically, Gale was still bent over catching his breath, and Astarion wiggled his fingers seductively in their direction.
“A pleasure, truly. Might I ask how you found me?” Halsin looked between the four of them.
“We’ve been to the Emerald Grove, it’s in danger.” Tav responded. She quickly filled Halsin in on their adventure so far. Kagha’s alliance with the Shadow Druids, the cult of the Absolute, the mercenaries that had escaped from the goblins. She paused, trying to decide if she should tell him about the tadpoles yet. Before she could continue, Halsin held a hand out in front of her.
“That look in your eyes…” He said quietly. A golden glow surrounded her as Halsin closed his eyes in concentration.
“Oakfather preserve you child, you’re infected, aren’t you?” He jerked his hand back to his side. Tav placed a hand on her sword, prepared for a fight. Halsin held his hands up innocently.
“It’s no coincidence that you found me, I wager. I’ve been studying these tadpoles. They’re different from how mind flayers typically procreate.”
Halsin launched into a summary of his research surrounding the tadpoles. Of course, there wasn’t going to be a simple cure for their affliction. He confirmed that their tadpoles were special, altered, just as they suspected. He was also able to give them their next destination, Moonrise Towers. She froze at the mention of Moonrise. It was their first solid lead since the nautiloid crashed, but the news filled Tav with dread. She knew all too well the evil that besieged that land. Without thinking, she stepped close to Halsin, leaning in so only he could hear her. She reached up and grabbed his arm, trying to keep her balance.
“You’re sure that’s where we need to go?” She asked quietly, in Elvish. “That is no easy task.”
His expression softened and he gave her a knowing look in response.
“You know of this place?” He lowered his voice to match hers, as smooth as his voice was before, it was nothing compared to hearing him speak their native tongue.
“Unfortunately, yes. I would not go back there unless I had no other choice.” Tav’s hand was starting to shake slightly against his arm, but he placed his other hand over hers to steady it. His hands were lightly calloused but warm and comforting. She felt the blushing feeling returning to her face.
“It will be dangerous, but it can be done. And perhaps, we can see the light there again.” He whispered back. His voice was hopeful, but his face was a mask of pain.
We? Before she could respond, she heard Astarion clear his throat loudly.
“Care to include us in your little whispers, darlings?” He practically sang the words.
Tav quickly let go of Halsin but noticed his hand lingered on hers for just a fraction of a second longer.
“Don’t be jealous, love. There’s enough of me to go around.” She composed herself and flashed a teasing grin at him.
“Thank you, Halsin. At least we know where to go now.” Tav turned back to face him.
“Wait,” He called after her, “I could accompany you if you’ll have me. I’ve long sought to return to Moonrise.”
“Great!” Tav said a little too quickly. “We just have to find a way to sneak through this camp and we can get you back to the Emerald Grove. Could you shift into something small so we can sneak you out? Like a mouse or a bird?”
“I cannot do that.” Halsin said, his voice lower than before.
“So much for a powerful Archdruid.” Astarion murmured. Halsin pursed his lips.
“I cannot allow these butchers to continue to threaten the Grove. I have no right to ask it of you, but if you would lend me your aid in removing the goblins’ leadership, I would be free to join you on your journey.”
Tav considered his offer for a moment. They were a capable group of fighters, but there was an alarming number of goblins between them and the three leaders. Even with Halsin, she wasn’t sure if they could fight their way out. Then she thought back to the refugees, the tieflings sheltered in the Grove. Even if they could sneak past the entire camp, Zevlor and his kin would never be able to survive on the road. Halsin was right, they needed to take out the leaders.
“Having a shapeshifting bear-druid at my side might make things easier.” She smiled at him and held out her hand. “Welcome to the team.”
He smiled back at her and clasped her forearm, once again lingering just a little longer than she would have expected.
***
Halsin let go of Tav’s arm and took a moment to catch his breath. He had been in his bear form for days now, standing on two legs made him feel a little uneasy at the moment. The four strange adventurers in front of him had huddled close together, plotting their plan of attack on the goblin leaders.
His eyes wandered to Tav, who seemed to be their leader. A picture of elven beauty in his humble opinion. Her long white-blonde hair was tied back in a braid that was currently slung over one of her shoulders, several strands had worked their way out of the confines of the braid and swirled around her head. The long scar that ran over her nose and right cheek looked like it had been caused by a claw of some kind based on the shape of the edges. She had a rugged look to her, like she had been in the wilds long before she was abducted by mind flayers. But something was off. He listened as she strung together a plan with her companions, effortlessly doling out assignments and orders, commanding their attention despite their tired state. There was a noble air about her, but he hardly knew of any nobles who would prefer stomping around in the wilderness over the comforts of their estates.
Seeing her now, it was hard to believe their initial awkward encounter had happened. She seemed so confident and sure of herself talking with her companions. He wasn’t a stranger to others being caught off guard by his appearance. Given her own beauty he was surprised that she would have any trouble forming words of flattery. She seemed witty enough and happy to flirt back at the pale elf in her company. He would have assumed she had suitors lined up from here to Neverwinter, so why would he elicit such a flustered response from her? Regardless, he would be lying if he said he didn’t feel a slight pull in his chest looking at her. It had been quite some time since anyone looked at him with any kind of desire in their eyes. As for her awkward fumbling, he found it rather endearing. He pushed the thoughts away for now, he couldn’t allow himself to be distracted, not when he finally had a chance to correct so many of the mistakes from his past.
At some point while he was lost in his thoughts, Tav had summoned a large wolf to her side. The beast paced around her protectively, the smells in this wretched hideout were no doubt overwhelming to it. Halsin met its eyes, causing the wolf to freeze. He kept calm, careful not to startle it. Making a small lap around the others, it walked over to stand in front of him, still crouched in a protective stance.
“Lunari! Here girl!” Tav shouted.
Halsin carefully lowered his eyes, continuing to stand still. The wolf tentatively circled around him, sniffing around his legs. Seeming satisfied, she moved back over towards Tav and plopped down on her haunches in front of her, tail wagging slightly. Such a loyal creature, he thought to himself. Tav was absentmindedly scratching Lunari’s ears, causing her to lean against her legs and wag her tail faster. A friend of nature indeed.
Halsin thought back to Tav’s reaction to Moonrise. She had to know of the curse. When he looked into her eyes, he saw the same fear that had haunted his reflection for the last century. There were so few still alive who knew of that tragedy, let alone who had lived it. Now, it seemed that he may have found another who shared that burden.
“Okay, I think this gives us as good a chance as anything.” Tav’s voice rang through the room. “Anything to add?” Astarion’s hand shot up in the air, but Tav gave him a look that caused him to lower it again. She took a deep breath and motioned for them to head for the door. Halsin took the cue to wildshape back into his bear form. He padded up behind Tav, braced and ready to follow her into battle.

King Chickens, a thrall folk story
Sijana is a beloved trickster character in South Front stories. In this one she deals with the generic Captain, a character who rarely has any other name or much of a brain. Translation from Corps Savic.
For some time, Sijana was a servant to Captain, and did all type of chores for him.
Once, the company captured a small town that was recently full of Briari people (in those old days those kind of towns were as thick as fleas on a dog). As soon as Captain saw there was lots of food in the town, he called Sijana.
“Get the biggest chickens in town,” he said, “my officers will have a feast tonight.”
Ever dutiful, Sijana went to find the biggest chickens. After some stomping around in a muddy chicken coop she found two large hens. Carefully she plucked them and gut them, and ate the feet and entrails.
When she showed them to Captain, though, he took one long look at the birds and then waved them away. “Pathetic. In Savos they come ten times bigger.”
Sijana just nodded and promised to bring new ones, as one does. When she came outside she gave the chickens to the crowd of field babies. “I guess these might fill little thralls, but apparently not big humans. Find me bigger and you can have these.”
The kids were ecstatic at this game and ran off, screaming. In time, they brought her two even more massive hens, with bright red combs and shiny feathers. These she didn’t waste her time plucking, having learned her lesson, and brought them inside.
“Pathetic,” said Captain. “My officers are already plotting to take my place, and you’ll have them think I can’t even feed them.”
Twice more Sijana sent the field babies, while she napped in the long grass behind the house. They came back with more hens, which Captain quickly rejected, and then the two biggest, oldest roosters in town.
“Don’t you know what a chicken is?” asked Captain. “Find some good chickens or you’ll be sorry.”
This time Sijana did go to look for herself, because it’s hard to nap when you’re angry. She walked past all the chicken coops in town, until she heard something; the honk of geese. Following the sound she went and found them, all huddled in the corner of an old barn. Except when she got closer she realised the honk was more of a wheeze, because the geese were very old and very forest-sick. Their old paddle shaped feet had grown lumps, and their eyes were laced shut with feeler tentacles and mucus.
“If you pretend to be chickens, I’ll give you some mercy,” Sijana said to them. The geese were angry at this idea and hissed at her.
Quickly Sijana killed the two biggest geese. Even sick, they fought her, and they were as big as five chickens. After they got some bloody pecks on her she killed them, all the while cursing them. Then carefully she cut off their geese heads and geese feet, and plucked out all the feathers. Under the feathers were some bad lumps and sores, so, thinking quickly, Sijana rubbed their whole body with red taber leaf. Then the goose’s skin was red, and you couldn’t see the sores.
She took the geese to Captain.
“Finally!” said Captain. “These will do. But why are they red?”
“Oh these are King Chickens,” said Sijana. “You were right to send me again, sir. These are a legendary type of chicken in Briar land and I only just found them. Their meat makes men stronger and more virile.”
“Fantastic,” said Captain, not wanting to seem more ignorant than a thrall. “I’ve always wanted to try King Chicken.”
So Sijana roast the two sick geese on spits over a hearth, until the meat was crackling and made her hungry even though she’d seen the pustules. Then she put them on the table of the captured farm house for the officers.
All the men immediately shoveled ‘King Chicken’ into their mouths, laughing and talking with each other. Soon though, some of them made disgusted faces, and looked like they wanted to spit it out.
“Is there something different about the chicken?” One finally had the courage to ask.
“It’s King Chicken,” said Captain. “Maybe you wouldn’t know the taste, if you haven’t been fortunate enough. I had my thrall find them for us. It’s a legendary delicacy in Briar country.”
“Oh,” said the young officer, “that’s why it’s so good. I’ve always wanted to try King Chicken.”
And so it went. By the end of the night the two huge geese were gone.
For the next two weeks, all the thralls had a great leisurely time in the nice little town, because all the human officers couldn’t walk two steps away from a latrine. One even died, and Sijana had a hard time stopping herself from laughing when Captain announced that.
Perhaps they would have recovered faster, except now they wanted King Chicken broth to help them heal. Until the sick geese ran out they would eat nothing else.

Rock, Paper, Scissors
It’s rare Dean won a game of rock, paper, scissors against Sam. He always went scissors and the one time Sam was hopeful that it was a sure thing, he switched it up. Sam slammed down a rock, and Dean slapped down paper.
“Sorry, Sam,” you sighed, actually sounding disappointed, “looks like Dean is my date for the evening.”
He’d watched you walk into your adjacent motel room and felt the same disappointment he hoped he saw in your demeanor.
“Dude,” Sam called, jogging after Dean into their room, “Don’t flirt with her tonight!”
Dean chuckled and turned to face his brother, the triumphant smile still plastered to his lips. “How can I pretend to be her boyfriend and not flirt with her?”
“You know what I mean,” sighed Sam, “don’t take it too far.”
“You could just swap places with me?” Dean suggested.
Sam shook his head quickly. “No way. Then she’d ask why we swapped.”
“Here’s a crazy idea,” Dean started, imitating a brain explosion, “and I'm just spitballing here, you could just nut up and tell her you like her.”
“Shut up, go take a shower.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leaning on the trunk of the Impala, Sam checked his phone, reading Dean’s text again, “Wait in the alley, we’ll be twenty minutes.” It had been thirty minutes and neither of you had emerged from the club.
He tried calling Dean’s cell. Voicemail. He tried your cell, same result. He had a mental flash of the two of you huddled up in a corner booth, your leg draped over Dean’s lap while he kissed you and his hands roamed places Sam wished his hands could explore.
He tried your cell one last time, deciding if he got no answer he’d find a way to get inside. Just as your voicemail picked up the call, he heard the door open. He spun round, hair swishing with the swift movement and his jaw hit the floor.
You looked left, searching for him and then right, giving him a shy smile before turning to close the door gently. Sam took the time to admire you. The simple black dress looked as if it was made specifically for you. It hugged your figure in all the right places. It was a sexy but tasteful length, an inch above your knee, and the curve of your ass was perfect. You held his gaze as you walked toward him and he lost his breath. Your make-up was subtle but highlighted your best features, and he cursed a breathy, “Holy shit.”
“Something wrong?”
“Yes,” he said instinctively, before thinking it through. The only thing wrong was that you’d spent the night with Dean, looking like a Goddess worthy of a magazine cover. “No! No, everything’s fine. Um, you look, wow, you look amazing.”
You tucked a stray piece of hair behind your ear and smiled, “Thank you.”
“Really, Y/N,” he said, rushing to open the passenger door of the Impala. He waited until you stood in front of him again, gazing down at you, softly he said, “You’re beautiful.”
“You’re not so bad yourself, Winchester,” you replied, rising to the tips of your toes and he reflexively leaned down so you could reach to place a gentle kiss on his cheek.
Heat flooded his whole body and he felt it color his cheeks as you dropped back down, eyes locked together. Time seemed to slow as he stared at you, unable to look away. He wet his lips, the desire to kiss you was encompassing. He wondered what your tongue tasted like, probably sweet with a tang of sour, as you had a preference for fruity cocktails washed down with a shot of tequila. He pondered your other flavors and how they’d taste mixed with his own.
“Sam,” you whispered.
“Huh.” You pointed toward the car and he realized he was in your path.
He took a half step out of your way, but changed his mind and blocked the door again. “Wait,” he said, shaking his head to rid himself of the sordid thoughts, “Where’s Dean?”
You laughed at his memory lapse. “He picked up a chick, proving his theory that women are more interested when guys appear unavailable,” you explained, with a slight shrug. You stepped closer to him, tilting your head up to keep eye contact. “He’ll be gone all night. So we can do whatever it is you were just thinking about.”
“W-what?” he stuttered, trying his best to appear innocent and confused.
“Or,” you drawled, with a teasing smirk, “I can go back into the bar and find someone else to take this dress off.”
You waited a half second, your words settling in the breath of space between you, taking a small step back.
“Wait,” demanded Sam, quickly grabbing your wrist before you could take a second step.
“What am I waiting for?”
“This,” he said, and dipped to press his lips to yours.

Do you write fanfiction of your OCs? If so, can we have a taste?
I do. I plan on working on the Full story of Siva sometime in the future detailing her survival through the biblical apocalypse, but I am only working on a one shot for now. It takes place after the end war, maybe a couple months after the events of Darksiders, and it covers about how Siva is coping to a peaceful life, but no human ever comes out unscathed after her experiences. I put the Beginning snippet of it here , but I can share a little more too...
Siva's POV
With a sharp gasp for air, I shot up from my bed with a start, my heart and head pounding against their weak prison of flesh as tried to get oxygen back into my system.  Through the ringing in my ears, I could hear a torrent of rain against the window, beating harshly to create a constant patter of sound.  I had almost come back to my senses before a sudden flash of white light filled the room, making me tense up and freeze in place.  Without even thinking I rolled off the mattress and onto the floor, my feet meeting the ground as my eyes flitted against the illuminated  darkness.  Where is it?!  Where did I-
The shimmer of metal caught my eye, and I made a desperate sprint toward the hammer that rested at the door. I was so close...until the resounding boom of thunder sent a shock throughout my body, making my limbs lock in place.  The last thing I registered was my body falling to the floor in an uncoordinated heap of limbs, my head was throbbing, and I couldn't hear anything except the staggering gasps for air as I laid there.  The sheer sound of the elements outside sent my mind reeling, my adrenaline was pumping through my veins, and the terror came back in a raging force.  All I could manage to do was curl up where I was, clenching my teeth as I felt a phantom pain run through my frame, wheezing as my stomach began to churn in ways I never thought possible.  As if my body was preparing for the worst.
I don't know how long I spent on the floor, trying to still my beating heart that seemed to want to escape from my chest.  Time spent clutching my gut as if my insides were imploding, while my brain wracked against my skull from all the images burned in my memory forever.  The smell of burning flesh, the smoke and rot that permeated in the air with every life lost.  The sights of endless bodies littered  across the Earth, flesh and blood strewn about, and hopelessness of being the only one......it all came crashing down.
All I seemed to recall doing in that moment was summoning what ever strength I had, and while grabbing Ironbark from it's place, proceeded to drag myself to the only enclosed space I could think of.  The storm outside continued to rage, and all I knew was that I need to get as far away from it as possible.  Some where quiet and small.  Somewhere safe.
Once there, I crawled into the space that was my closet, and there I stayed.  Huddled in the corner, my back turned away from the outside world as I leaned against the wall for support.  My grip on the hammer had tightened considerably, trying to regain some semblance of composure through the storm raging within.  Breath........just breath.......
I tried to make as little noise as possible, keeping my dry sobs to a whisper as I repeated to myself.  "It's over now......It's over now.....It's all over now......no need to be afraid...."
It was as if I were in a trance.  My every instinct was fighting to stay awake no matter what, even though my mind knew there were no more demons or ghouls.  The thunder certainly didn't help, for I seemed stuck to the corner, fearing what I would see if I turned around.  The faint noise of heavy footsteps almost escaped me due to the storm overhead.  When the lightning passed, I heard it. .
.....Oh god.....I'm gonna die.
The thought came without warning, and before I knew it, my entire being tensed uncomfortably as a sense of dread over took my mind.  I wanted to fight it, whatever had just entered my home, but I couldn't move.  I was too scared, and i felt as if I was caught at my weakest.  I shut my eyes in resignation as the footfalls got closer, but when I felt the presence right behind me, I also registered something else.
The sound of heavy armor clinking against itself echoed in the darkness, heavy steps that stopped right at the door, followed by a scent.  That familiar scent that I faintly could recall.  While not as tinged with foul blood and smoke from before, the smell of iron, leather and the earth filled the small space.  It was so strong that it began to draw me from my forced trance, but I dared not move until I was absolutely sure.  Then after a moment of eerie silence, the familiar deep voice rose above the thunder.
"Siva?"
.......War?
My intial surprise was overtaken once more by the lightning strike outside, letting out a small whimper as I burrowed my face into the corner.  Even as the thunder passed, I could not muster the courage nor the strength to answer back, too focused on trying to calm myself down.  How is he here....and how did he get in?   When I heard nothing, I tried to brush it off.  Maybe the lack of sleep is making me imagine it......do I really miss him that much, that I think I-
"If you do not answer, I will break this door like the other.".
.....That explains how he got in....and proves he's.....real.
Clearing my throat, my voice wavered from the closet corner as I replied in haste.  "I'm fine- just uhhh......resting?"
For a mere moment, a quiet energy hung in the air like a heavy mist.  It was almost suffocating, and as I took a faint breathe to quiet my mind, the doorknob to the closet began to shake.  I only watched as it turned one way then the other, and with uncharacteristic care, the large nephilim opened it as he poked his head in.  Even with the darkness, his brilliant gaze lit up the small space, his eyes trained on my form as he looked to me for confirmation.  I stared back with weary eyes.  ".......Hi big guy."
Hope ya like, and would love feedback cuz it's still a work in progress.

It Is A Wise Child That Knows Their Father
papa emmet au, with stella adopted but still accepting it. emmet too.
🍓🍓🍓
Stella knows things, despite what everyone thinks. Sure, she didn't gain the "ultimate knowledge" or the "secrets to the universe" or anything like that from falling through the rifts, but she prides herself on being observant. Her brother could always tell how people felt, no matter what their faces said, and he was teaching her the same before. . . everything happened.
So she puts her skills to use on Emmet.
Emmet smiles, always. He's always smiling, and people around him are always whispering. Stella stands at his side, gripping his coat as the await trains or stoplights, and she can hear the whispers.
Unnerving.
Murderer.
Lost soul.
Shell.
All of these words mean things, not very nice things. And Stella can see it in the way Emmet's smile tightens at the corners, the way it does when he looks at old photographs, or reads those letters that come into the mail (that he doesn't let her read, but Emmet is a creature of habit, and where he hides the magazines about her, he hides the letters).
Emmet is like her, only one half of a whole. He's facing the entire world, convinced that he knows more than he does, with only a handful of people at his side, one being an anxious little girl that hasn't slept through the night in months.
But then again, Stella thinks, listening to the footsteps creak through the apartment, neither has Emmet.
She slides out of bed, footsteps silent due to her far smaller stature. Weaver, roused from her own slumber by Stella's missing warmth, yawns and floats lazily into the air. She follows Stella out into the hall, towards the study. It's dark, but Emmet's turned on the lamp, so they follow the muted rays through the shadows.
Emmet is bent over his desk when they peek inside, hands in his hair as he stares down at various papers.
Stella shoves the door open, startling the man with her presence.
"I had a nightmare." She announces before Emmet can say anything, make any excuses for his own consciousness in the early hours. The quiver in her voice is enough to distract him from it.
"Stella." Emmet coos, reaching down towards her. Stella bolts into his arms, crawling into his lap to sit while he hugs her. "I am Emmet. I will protect you from nightmares."
Stella sighs, put at ease by the steady beat beneath her ear.
"What do I pay you for?" Emmet asks Weaver, hovering overhead.
"Muuuuunna." Weaver replies.
"You are a dream eater, and yet you eat no dreams."
"She's full from eating my daydreams." Stella provides with a tiny yawn. Emmet cradles her closer, leaning back in the stiff wooden chair as he props his head on her.
"I see. That is why you hide your backpack from me." Emmet chuckles as Stella says nothing. "I know report cards came out. You can not hide things from me in my own home."
Stella just burrows closer. Emmet's chest jumps with gentle laughter, but all she can think about is "my own home." This isn't her home, not really.
Stella knows things. And she knows that for all the ways she and Emmet are the same, they are different. She more resembles the one that frowns, than the one that smiles. Ingo was taken by the thing that brought Stella here.
She's heard the whispers at her, the "replacement Ingo" as the magazines write. She knows once Ingo returns, Emmet won't need her anymore. It's the subject of many of her nightmares.
But tonight is not the night she outlives her purpose. So Stella huddles close, and imagines for a moment, Emmet might actually love her, and not the image of his brother he sees in her.
Unaware of the silver eyes that watch over her slumber.
🍓🍓🍓
i hope this is coherent. i don't feel my brain is working that well, but whatever

Chapter 4 - Run To The Hills
Tumblr media
The D&D game went well that night. Everyone was enjoying themselves and having fun. You even ended up saving all their butts at the end when Vecna almost got the best of the team. This definitely gave you brownie points with Hellfire. Dustin was so emotional over the game you thought the poor guy was going to pass out a couple times. As the gang started to depart still singing songs of their glory tonight, you stayed and helped Eddie clean up the table. You meticulously move his figurines into their cases, careful not to scratch any of the paint. Out the corner of your eye you watch him carefully gather his books and papers together. Focused on keeping everything organized and pristine. You want to break the silence but can’t think of anything worth saying. You ache to hear his voice again. And that’s when you realize and fully admit to yourself, you have a crush.
“Y/N” Eddie starts. Gods be praised. His voice is music to your ears.
“Yeah Eddie?” You glance his way slowly setting down a couple figurines.
“Um....just wanted to say....thanks....for staying and help clean up.” He gathers his papers and taps them on the table a couple times so they’re even before glancing to you.
Tumblr media
“Don’t mention it.” You reply. When his eyes reach you, your mind goes numb. Your breathing slows and all you can think about is kissing him. What is wrong with me, you think to yourself. You only just met this guy. He could be the next Ted Bundy for all you know. You need to get some sleep and think clearly tomorrow. Too much excitement in one day has got your brain scrambled.
You set the box of figurines in front of Eddie. You want so bad to reach out and touch his hand. Come on Y/N. You have got to get it together.
“Here’s your figurines all boxed and ready. I have to be heading home before my parents call Chief Powell for a search party. Thanks for a great campaign tonight.” You say and start to grab for your bag.
“Y/N wait. Do you need um a ride or anything?” He asked almost nervously.
“No silly. I drove here remember. Thanks though. See you tomorrow, Munson.” You wave goodbye and hurry out the door to your car before you can have any more unholy thoughts around him.
The next morning you wake up with a little pep. You’re actually excited to go to school today. You had a pretty good first day making new friends and even participated in a D&D game. Your mind goes back to last night. You and Eddie huddled under the glass in the soundproof room at school while holding hands as you’re gripped with anticipation of getting caught.
You stop and laugh at yourself for obsessing over one little moment. Jesus H. Christ Y/N you say to yourself. You grab a grey tank and shorts and tie a grey & black flannel shirt around your waist. You don’t use a lot of makeup but you do put on some mascara and eyeliner. Today you want to look extra nice.
Tumblr media
Of course, you’re running late as it is and now you can’t find those damn car keys. You frantically scoured the living room before going through your laundry and searching the pockets. You feel something in one of the pockets and pull it out. Eddie’s lucky pick. You grin from ear to ear and look for somewhere to keep it. You set it on your music box on the dresser for safe keeping. In the mirror you notice your keys under the bed.
“There you are” You cry to yourself and hurry out the door to pick up Max.
When you arrive at school Max thanks you for the ride and then hurries off inside the school. Guess she isn’t up for being a tour guide again today. You see Dustin and Mike walking up to the school and you start to head towards them. Before you can even leave the parking lot, Jason and Patrick are standing in your view.
“Hey Y/N. Ready for the pep rally later?” Jason asks cheerfully. His eyes look past you and focus on something coming towards them. You turn around and Chrissy his walking up to Jason, ready for their morning embrace.
“Um yeah sure.” You reply watching the two of them collide and engulf each other. Must be nice to have someone like that. Patrick watches the two of them also and you wonder if he is thinking the same thing.
“Come on. Walk with us.” Chrissy leaves Jason's hold and grabs your hand urging you towards the front doors. You see Mike and Dustin watching you as you enter the school with the jocks and cheerleaders.
“Well, that’s the last we will see of Y/N. It was a good run though.” Dustin woefully admits.
Tumblr media
Day 2 of school was not what you had in mind. But neither was your first day. Chrissy and the gang always got together between classes and they were sure to find you and have you join them. You were really happy to be making friends left and right here but all you really wanted was to join the Hellfire squad and riminess about last night's campaign while you try to catch glances at Eddie.
“Y/N meet us in the cafeteria after next period. You know where we sit. I’ll save you a seat.” Chrissy tells you with her warm smile. She was so sweet how can I say no.
“Um I was thinking about maybe sitting with the table I sat at yesterday. They were really nice and....”
“No way.” Jason interrupts. “That’s the freak table. They’re a bunch of Satan worshipers and listen to the devil's music.”
Oh boy. If Jason only knew you had been in the Hellfire club last night or listened to as he called it “the devil's music”, they would banish you from their click instantly. You glance at Lucas who meets your gaze and gives you a “Don’t say anything” look.  The warning bell rings and everyone starts grabbing their belongings to head to the next class.
“See you at lunch!” Chrissy waves to me and heads out. This poor girl. Either she is completely clueless about what kind of guy Jason really is, or she’s just as twisted as him. No wonder Eddie wasn’t a fan and warned you beforehand. Your head snaps as you realize your next class. English with Eddie Munson. You hurry down the hall and whip into the classroom hoping to see his face in the back. To your dismay his seat was empty and as you quietly prayed in your head that he might show up in the middle of class with an excuse, he never did.
You were honestly dreading lunch at this point. I might just go sit in the bathroom and wait it out. If I go sit with the Hellfire clan then I will definitely be bullied by the jocks all year and probably cause some West Side Story type tension. But if I go sit with the jocks then Hellfire is going to think I turned on them and I'll never play D&D again. You decide the only solution is to have lunch on the football bleachers until you can come up with a better plan.
Tumblr media
When the bell rings you head straight for the gym and out the side door leading to the football field. There’s not a ray of sun due to the grey clouds swirling above you but at least it’s semi warm out. You make your way to the field and notice a small white rabbit hopping around the bleachers. It must be a baby. The poor thing is probably lost. You sit your backpack down slowly and ease your way towards the baby rabbit. If you could just coax it towards the woods then maybe it might find its mother, you think. You gently coo to the rabbit to go home while slowly walking behind it as it went hop by hop to the woods in search of home. You follow behind it for a while until you see it take a very fast hop and disappear under a hole. You smile at your successful rehabitation of the small animal. A few feet in the distance you notice a clearing with a pick nick table. You walk up to inspect and realize this is the perfect place to have your lunches without anyone knowing. You brush some leaves off the bench and turn around to go back and get your bag when you’re startled by someone approaching you. I’m about to get busted by a teacher or murdered by Michael Meyers you think. You squint your eyes and realize it’s another student. Jason’s friend Patrick to be exact.
“What are you doing out here Y/N?” Patrick asks as he approaches you, moving twigs and branches from his path until he enters the clearing.
“I just saw a little bunny and followed it until I found this table. What are you doing out here, Patrick? Stalking me?” You playfully giggled.
“Well yeah.” He responded.
The way he said it made you a little uneasy.
“I mean, you are ditching us at lunch, right?” Patrick snapped. His voice seemed harsh and tense. You nervously try to think of the right thing to say to end this awkwardness.
“I mean, you are ditching us so you can hang out with Eddie “The Freak” Munson, right?” He pulled his arm from behind his back and revealed a notebook in his hand. Wait. That’s not just any notebook, you realize. That’s your journal.
“I noticed you leave out the side door and so I followed you. And then you left your bookbag on the bench...tsk tsk tsk. You can’t leave your personal belongings unguarded or someone might read them.”
This infuriated you beyond measure. But here you were alone, in the woods, with a boy you don’t even really know, and not sure of what to say or do. Something takes over though and you walk up to Patrick and grab the journal from his hands.
“That’s personal and private and none of your business, thanks.” You scold, trying to keep your cool. You go to push past him and head back to the school when Patrick grabs your arm, hard.
“Ow” You exclaim.
“Let's get one thing clear freak, you might fool Chrissy but you don’t fool me and Jason. We could tell you were odd from the beginning but Chrissy’s heart is too big for her own good.” Patrick’s voice is serious and unfriendly. You try to pull your arm from his grasp but he has a tight grip you can’t shake.
“Let go” You demand and reach over to pry his fingers but his other hand catches your arm and he pushes his weight on you pushing you against a tree, trying to hold you in place. He’s very tall and very strong. You struggle to force his weight off you but it’s futile. You beg him to get off of you and start to scream. He quickly pins both of your arms with one hand and covers your mouth with the other. Tears stream down your cheeks as you try with every ounce of strength you have left to push him off you as he leans in to kiss you, when suddenly he goes flying.
You gasp for air and hurry to stand up not knowing how you got him off you. Then you see it, another boy has Patrick on the ground and pummeling his face. It takes you a second to realize your knight in shining armor is about to commit first degree murder for you. You run over, tears still filling your eyes and impairing your vision, and try to break up the fight. You pull the boy off Patrick, who is laying on his back covered in blood and bruises. You look over at your new found hero and realize, it’s Eddie. He takes one look at you and cusps your head in his hands and wipes away the tears and dirt.
“Eddie? What are you doing here?” You ask confused.
“I was about to skip class when I heard some noises coming from the woods. I knew something was up when I saw your backpack.” He explained. “Did he hurt you?” His eyes locked on you and you could feel his hands shaking from the adrenaline.
“No, I’m fine. Thanks to you” Your voice cracks and you begin flooding tears down your face.
“Hey hey sweetheart. Don’t you worry, I've got you. Want me to call the police and arrest this perv?” Eddie glared in Patrick’s direction who was slowly starting to sit up. You could feel Eddie tense as he looked at Patrick, wanting to finish what he started. You could see the darkness in his eyes.
Tumblr media
“No but we should get him some help. Maybe an ambulance.” You start, and Eddie’s eyes snap back to yours.
“This ASSHOLE just forced himself on you and you want to call HIM an ambulance? Maybe he did cause you some brain damage.” He joked trying to hide the anger in his voice. He gently wiped the tears from your cheeks. His fingers were warm but rough from the calluses on his fingertips.
Patrick slowly stands up in a daze from the ass kicking.
“You’re dead freak.” Patrick yells at Eddie trying to compose himself. Eddie turns from you and takes one step towards Patrick before he starts running back towards the school.
You rub your wrist, still sore and raw from Patrick’s grip. You see your journal on the ground as Eddie bends over to pick it up, inspecting it’s condition and wiping the dirt and leaves off it.
“I believe this is yours, m’lady.” He hands the notebook back almost bowing playfully.

giant dream post
aka everything from the past eleven months i just told Mary about instead of posting here, copy-pasted directly from Discord. this is For Me so feel free to ignore it! (in fact, do ignore it, because it is very long)
okay so... my dreams... were wild and i can only sort of remember both of them. in the first one, i was in my hometown, driving around on a cloudy, slightly rainy day. i went to the public library and when i left, i realized my childhood friend Kim (perpetrator of the original Patron story and January fucking Kindle, as well as co-author of the Great Harry Potter Rip-Off) was across the street. IRL, there were a bunch of houses and an intersection there. in the dream, there were a couple of kind of run-down houses instead. in a small lot between two of them, Kim had a sort of "fort" - only it wasn't actually hers, it'd been there for a long time. i can't really remember it now, but it was a very small structure, barely big enough for one person, with most of the front wall missing except a bit at the bottom. the entire lot was overgrown and a little dirty, lots of cobwebs and stuff. there may also have been a well? but the really strange part was the hatch in the floor of the fort, mostly hidden beneath a rock Kim was sitting on... apparently it led to a small underground room where she implied there were at least some skeletons, if not currently-decomposing bodies. i went over to say hello. a few other kids she was friends with were there, along with a man who inexplicably decided to show us a projector-film about the history of this little structure? it was very dull but Kim had said she would show me the room underneath once it was over, so i waited... and unfortunately woke up before i saw what was really down there.
the other one was RIGHT before i woke up this morning. it started out as some kind of weird high school documentary about the way nicer locker rooms the athletic kids had compared to us normies, and then suddenly i was a youngish girl - maybe 10 or 11 - and had a twin sister, and we were in a group sort of like Girl Scouts? we took a field trip to a farm so we could feed baby piglets milk through syringes... anyway, at some point my sister and i were looking for something and we went into this house, and apparently the not-Girl-Scout organization was actually a front for child secret agents???? my brain was pulling plots straight out of the LEGO years, clearly. thank god there were no horses. so my twin and i were recruited to break into this huge house nearby for some reason i don't recall. we did; my sister went upstairs to hide and i ducked into a small room with a closet. inside the closet was this big bag of powdered hot chocolate mix i was supposed to retrieve???? anyway we were waiting for backup, so i hid in the closet for a while. and then something happened, i had to leave, saw a bunch of cops or something in the house along with the residents - a couple and their three kids. the girl was about my age, the boy was a bit younger, and there was also a toddler of indeterminate gender. (side note, at the end of the dream i found a small, leather, strangely greasy book that was like. a character guide to everyone in the dream? except we were all cartoony Sanrio-esque characters... the family were a bunch of small fluffy white dogs... anyway the toddler was not given a gender lol). i raced back to the little room so i wouldn't be caught and the power abruptly went out. before i made it back into the closet, i heard someone opening the door and quickly huddled in a corner.
the boy and girl from the family came inside with a flashlight. the boy didn't see me - he went to a cabinet near the closet and looked for something - but the girl did. i panicked, because i could hear other people right outside, but she quickly came over and whispered that i looked like her and if i was careful not to get too close to anyone, i could make it upstairs and hide in her bedroom and everyone would just think i was her. i didn't know why she was helping me, but i didn't really have a choice. so i sort of messed up my hair (it was dark and a bit curly) so it mostly hid my face and quickly walked out of the room and towards the nearest staircase, trying to avoid the cops and the parents. when i got upstairs, the boy (who'd gone up too, i guess??) said good night to me, not realizing i wasn't his sister, and i went into the girl's room. i stayed on her bed for a while, wondering if my twin was still okay and whether or not our backup would arrive. then i heard the parents' voices out in the hallway - i laid down and hid my face in the pillow so anyone who looked inside wouldn't notice i wasn't the other girl. the father came into the room. then he poked my side really hard and i yelped and he was like AHA I KNEW IT. but even though i'd been caught (by a man who was implied to be REALLY dangerous), i wasn't worried? i got up and told him i still held all the cards. and soon after that came our backup, which were a bunch of giant spiders. i ran outside and found that little booklet i mentioned earlier and then it ended... except right before i woke, the dream started to repeat, beginning when my sister and i went into the house and were given an assignment by the elderly woman running this weird child-secret-agent group. i remembered exactly what'd happened on the previous 'loop' and i was leading my sister across the field outside, avoiding the other not-Girl-Scouts on our way to break into the other house... and then i woke up
------
oh jeez in one part of my dream, i went for a bike ride at my old house, except nobody else was home and i forgot to close the garage door. so when i came back i saw movement inside, realized someone broke in, and fled to my neighbors' house... except i think in the end i forgave the girls (who were like, 15) and befriended them? idk. and in the other part, i was in a classroom taught by my third grade teacher, who was Awful. i think i'd just moved or something because i was definitely new - she gave a spelling test and i didn't know ANY of the words (some of which inexplicably related to Supernatural??) so i just guessed. then she took attendance and the other kids were all either writing down the names or writing down one name over and over? and i had no idea what to do and the teacher got mad at me? and then she got mad AGAIN because my notebook smelled like vanilla and i had to explain i'd apparently put vanilla-scented oil on it at some point in the past... idfk
------
had an odd dream this morning. i don't remember most of it, which sucks because it was very vivid. i think i went on a trip with my family and we were staying in this small house in a seaside town. my parents went out somewhere and my brother was busy, so i decided to take a walk to the beach. on the way i kept picking up things i found on the ground, like a blue heart-shaped rock and a wooden cross someone had painted. eventually, somehow, i met up with a girl and followed her to a courtyard where her church was having a sort of craft fair or something? i watched the girl pack a basket of food... then slowly i realized all these people were supposed to be in church and asked why they weren't, and the girl said they didn't want to leave me alone out here, so either they'd stay in the courtyard until i left or i could come to the church with them. i chose the latter, so we all went into this small stone church with pews that were like... stadium-seating, lol. regular wooden pews but each row was a little lower than the one behind it. idk. she and i sat down for a while, but then right before they actually began the service, everyone got up and moved down to the pew below them - and for some reason we were supposed to make up a silly excuse for the person whose seat we were taking, like we were arriving late or something??? it was apparently tradition. so as i passed a blonde woman, i told her "sorry i'm late, my pet fish ran away and i had to go look for him." then the girl and i sat again. an old man came to sit in front of us and the girl got annoyed - he was the husband of an elderly neighbor she was very close to - and she told him he'd better be good to his wife this week. he reminded her of the time he'd shot the limo driver in a movie she liked????? no idea what that was about. i then woke up and discovered i'd seriously overslept.
------
the only thing i remember from my dream last night was being at some kind of orphanage/group home for girls called "Grant's Abbey" that was right by the sea. there was a big sort of tower right on the beach that we all liked to climb and everyone slept in one huge room in the main building, which looked like a church.
------
my dream... mostly forgotten... in one part i was at my childhood best friend's house, which was like four stories and thus WAY bigger than irl. i accidentally pulled a rug off one of the many staircases and had a hell of a time putting it back. then later i was in Hawaii and walking with someone on a long, winding path... i was trying to text something but Hawaii apparently had its own emojis to represent letters, all of which were tiny photos of people making some weird gesture, and i couldn't remember which letter was each. finally got to our destination - a movie theater - and i was going to watch the new Lilo & Stitch film, but the movie listings used a bunch of confusing abbreviations and i was trying to look it up on my phone and i'm not even sure that theater was playing the movie. woke up before i found out
------
i've been trying to remember my dream, but i can't recall anything besides bits and pieces... something about putting a piano in my bedroom, which looked like an attic... finding out i'd been kidnapped as a child even though my twin sister (who was a small blonde girl maybe 7 or 8 years old) hadn't been... going to live with my "real" family only for my "father" to collapse while bringing my birthday cake outside and trying to call my twin with a whistle shaped like a bird... idfk
also i had a very colorful windbreaker in the dream
------
dude last night i dreamed my father was in the mafia
and i briefly worked at a pizza restaurant owned by the mob, but i never had anything to do and after like two days they fired me because they had too many waitstaff
and then i guess my dad retired because a bunch of mafia dudes showed up at our house to 'clean it' of anything that could possibly be used against them... i vaguely recall acting like a normal kid so they wouldn't suspect me and finally my father could send me to bed even though we were all supposed to stay outside while they were 'cleaning'. i went into my room and tried to find some polaroid pictures i'd taken of very suspicious objects or something, discovered them still in a box someone had moved. so i knew i'd be caught if i removed them, and i wanted to make copies, but then a woman walked in and i had to throw the pictures under a dresser... i don't remember much else?
------
my dream was weird... in at least one part of it i was riding the scooter i had as a kid by my old elementary school... there was a part that involved the characters from The Old Guard? they were in some kind of rowing race and came in second, which didn't make much sense because the woman who won came in 16th. also Joe was apparently dead
WHY DOES MY SIM'S FINAL EXAM BEGIN AT FOUR AM (not dream-related but lol)
------
i had a weird lil dream where i was living in an apartment with my father, and then my mom and brother moved in. the apartment only had two bedrooms - my parents were in one and i guess i slept in the living room, because the other room was an extremely tiny, windowless closet. except when i showed it to my brother it was suddenly a little bigger and had several windows and he decided to take it. then he got dizzy and my mother was like "oh no his heart is failing!!" and called an ambulance... and later on i went to the hospital to visit Ahsoka??? but then she was fine and she and i were trying to get some kind of cure into the hospital's ventilation system, which involved climbing over a really long drop into the vents and getting help from a dude who ran some kind of illegal concession stand in the basement... idfk
------
among the bits and bobs of weird dreams i had last night, there was one where i was this dude who'd died as a child but was placed in some kind of magic river and revived, and the river was at least somewhat sapient and he'd have to do things for it because the river had given him life and could take it away just as easily...
mind you, pretty sure the "river" was actually my pool because i was swimming in it with my dad and brother
------
i remember some of my dream. there was a part where i was at this sort of big park/playground/swimming pool area next to an elementary school, and in the middle was a big cylinder with all these ads and job postings stuck on it. the school had some kind of after-school gardening club for the kids (who were apparently very low-income) and there'd been a newspaper ad for some kind of assistant to help out, so i was there to ask about it. the article in the paper was weird lol, i distinctly recall it saying something about the woman in charge looking like she was "made of noses"?? and she'd formerly run a ballet school but the other teacher went off to join a company so it had to close. anyway, i wandered around a bit until i found a woman and asked about the job. she started singing a song in... well, it was def a made-up language thanks to my subconscious lmao but i think it was supposed to be an African language. she led me over to the big cylinder and tore a piece off an ad that had a name and phone number on it. once her song was done, she gave me the paper and said "here, you'll have to call Deborah - she's going to call you a rich spoiled brat and probably won't be very nice, but if you want the job, go ahead." and i remember thinking 'thanks! i'm going to go home and throw this away because why on earth would i want to work with someone like that?!'
------
lord i hate hate HATE those dreams where i'm trying to pack up my shit and i have so much shit i can't possibly pack it all up
iirc i was on some kind of school trip and we were heading home soon (it was like three am??) and i had apparently brought SO MUCH CRAP with me... it was all but impossible to get it all together... my friend Jackie from junior high was helping me and we could still barely manage. TONS of Beanie Babies and Legos and books.
also we were in some kind of basement with a gas station attached? like i remember going into the gas station's bathroom, and a ton of other kids on the trip were in there so i left. hung onto the bathroom key but when i finally decided to go back, the owner had closed up all the metal shutters and left...
there was an earlier dream where i was youngish (i got the impression 'eighth grade' for some reason) and i'd just escaped from being kidnapped for what i gathered was at least a month? and i immediately joined some kind of soccer team where all the other players were high-school-aged boys who were all super protective of me (no idea MY gender here tbh). i was the goalkeeper. don't remember ever playing any actual soccer
------
part of my dream was a very weird Star Wars Rebels thing involving an underground library. the rest of it had 1. me going to church, sitting in the front row, and then leaving literally a minute into the service, 2. backing out of my spot in the church parking lot, rear-ending someone (who was sitting in his car at the time), and just... fucking driving off lmfao, 3. going to the park, 4. deciding to rollerblade home (wtf happened to my car), 5. rollerblading past TONS of children who were all skating around this park which IRL is an apartment complex, but whatever
------
god i had a weird-ass dream last night... in part of it i was at my childhood BFF's house, hanging out with her, occasionally wondering how this was happening because i know she's a Functional Adult with a husband and two young kids? but like, never thought about it too hard haha. then we decided to go to my house instead, which inexplicably involved a stopover at Wal-Mart (with my mother?) because i had left either my car or my shoes there. idfk. so i'm going through the aisles of this huge warehouse-like room, trying to find my carshoes, and sometimes wandering back to the front of the room where there are about three rows of concrete benches. my friend was waiting there on one of them and when i came over to her at one point, she showed me there was some kind of very small gun lying in the various bits of debris under the bench? we were like 'huh, weird'... and then suddenly a man showed up with a very LARGE gun and pretty much took everyone in the warehouse-store hostage. he put us into three groups based on the row of benches we sat on and told us he'd lost something important and we needed to find it, or he'd kill us. so obv Jordann and i are thinking 'oh shit, it's this gun, but what if he thinks we stole it from him????' so we sorta hid it under some garbage instead. eventually the guy let one group of people go, then another, until it was just our group left... but i sorta got the impression they were like, working for him or something and just there to make this look more real. so finally we decide to 'find' the gun, and the dude's all happy, takes it and says he's going to let us go now. but idk, i saw SOMETHING that made me suspicious and realized no, he was going to just kill us instead. not really sure what i did, but somehow i released a bunch of very tiny bees?? and we all fled in the confusion, getting stung a few times but escaping?? and my mom texted my father to come pick us up but he didn't get the text lol. the end.
------
recently i had a dream where i was in front of my elementary school, about to start my first day of sixth grade, and i was lucid enough to go "wait... this already happened... OMG I TIME-TRAVELED HOORAY" and i was so excited for a moment before i actually walked inside, realized the inside of the school looked completely wrong, and figured out it was probably a dream. also my teacher was a young woman instead of a middle-aged man who was retiring the end of that year and the desks were inexplicably in pairs; i had to sit next to a boy named Ryan who was something of a troublemaker. and there was math.
-----
was rudely woken up this morning by a VERY LOUD buzzing noise that kept repeating... finally figured out something is Up with the pool heater and turned it off... had an unsettling dream where i was in my bedroom in my old house and could hear a very deep, mocking laugh coming from somewhere else in the room. eventually realized there was like... some kind of sentient theater mask (you know, the white ones that are either smiling or crying?) in the a/c pipes, watching me through the vent, periodically laughing. it doesn't sound creepy typed out like that but in the dream it was TERRIFYING
------
don't remember much of last night's dream except a part where my family was walking home to the apartment we lived in, saw a tornado off in the field in the distance, and noticed what looked like a dog and a cow running away from it... they came towards us and we slowly realized the "dog" was actually just a guy in a dog costume. went into the building, he followed us... and then he fucken attacked us??? like, scratching and biting and legit trying to hurt all of us. we ran upstairs and down the hall (being assaulted all the while) until we got to our apartment; my dad opened the door and told me to get the phone and call 911. i did so while he managed to wrestle Dog Dude into a chair and tied him to it. but when i called 911 and relayed the whole weird-ass situation to them, the woman told me to call back for some reason. so i did and had to listen to an ad beforehand?? and some other woman picked up, but i think she thought i was playing a prank, so she hung up on me? i called a THIRD time and the second woman picked up again, and either she couldn't hear me or was pretending she couldn't... but Dog Dude, who'd either been drunk off his gourd or just tripping balls, was starting to sober up and getting calmer at least... and then i woke up
------
had a weird little dream where i was working at a store in some mall for a bit with a bunch of girls i knew in high school... and then i guess the job was over and i'd made like $300? so on another day i was at the same mall with one of the girls i think also worked there and we wandered around a bit, went into a store that had Harry Potter themed sneakers. they were priced differently depending on which House they were for lol, i remember Gryffindor was around $300, Hufflepuff was $400 for some reason, but Ravenclaw was only $100 and those were the ones i wanted... after a while though i thought "eh, that's an entire third of my paycheck and i don't have another job lined up, might as well wait and maybe someday they'll go on sale" and didn't buy anything. my father and brother were also at the mall because there was an eye doctor there and my brother was getting glasses... sorta funny because IRL he's the only one of us who DOESN'T wear glasses haha. and then i decided to go down to the store i'd worked at, only to find they'd let go ALL my friends who had worked there for the holidays (I guess it was around Christmas??) and the only two employees left were Sam and Dean from Supernatural, so.
------
forgot most of the dream i had last night but i vaguely recall one bit where i'd like... sleepwalked in the middle of the night from my old house (i guess?) to the building that used to be a sketchy flea market and is now a Target, a distance of 3-4 miles. i was either trying to get my nonexistent boyfriend to pick me up, or he'd already picked me up and i was trying to keep my parents from finding out? 'twas weird
------
god i had this creepy-ass dream sometime last night... i was in a hotel room with four or five girls, around high-school-age (i think i was as well). i don't remember their names except for one, but they had a very cliquey vibe; one of the girls was pretty overweight and the others were kind of snarky and dismissive of her even though she seemed like a perfectly nice person. anyway, the fifth girl was named Eleanor, Ellie for short, and i only saw her once because she was sleeping under the bed. more on that later. there were two double beds and a pull-out sofa bed, which the 'leader' of this little group shared with her best friends. i think the other girl and i had the other two beds to ourselves. there were also like... six cats in this room with us??? at least two of them belonged to Ellie but i have no idea what was with the rest. anyway, it was pretty late and i took a shower before settling into bed and the others were about to go to sleep themselves. and this entire time i knew we were going to die tonight - a group of men were going to break into the room because one of the girls had left the door unlocked for some reason, and they'd kill all of us except for Ellie. somehow, even with this knowledge, i fell asleep, then woke up (in the dream) when they came inside.
so because i had this weird foreknowledge of the situation, while there was a moment of chaos and panic, i seized the moment and dove under one of the beds where Ellie was. she'd completely wrapped herself up in a comforter along with her cats; i realized as i huddled under the bed the only reason she survived was because one of the guys probably peeked beneath the bed quick and assumed she was just an extra piece of bedding or something.
and then the dream just kinda... repeated. back to the beginning with all of us getting ready for bed. idk if it was some kind of time-loop situation or just dream nonsense, but this time i decided to make sure the door was locked before we went to sleep. eventually woke up for real kinda freaked out haha
------
so i don't remember most of my dream, but at one point i was either in school or doing homework or something, and i had an assignment to write an essay on this topic: "if Frankenstein's monster was a better lover, Mary Shelley wouldn't have fucked that celibate professor."
------
i remember nothing of my dream last night except a very weird sort of sideplot thing where Cin Drallig was supposed to have been Cal Kestis's Master, but that didn't happen for some reason
also wild because i've never played Fallen Order, just watched like the cutscenes on youtube lol, and only have the vaguest idea who Cin Drallig is
(this one is funny in hindsight...)
------
alright so in the dream i had sometime early this AM, i was evidently a teenage boy. can't confirm because i didn't LOOK or anything lol. but i guess i was going to high school in Orlando and had to take the train there or something. also it was Thanksgiving and i think my mother wanted to visit some kind of cave system with me... the majority of this dream was an incoherent mess lol. the one part i do remember is that i had a girlfriend called Cecece (yes, pronounced C-C-C) and i have no idea if that was her given name, a nickname, or the name she used for her music, because she was this H U G E teen singer. literally in the dream there was an article comparing her to Billie Eilish in terms of popularity. hopefully her music was different though because i've never liked Billie's stuff lol. anyway, she was my girlfriend - we went to the same school - but she was ALSO in some sort of weird polyamorous relationship with (i shit you not) Lin Manuel Miranda and his girlfriend/wife. since she was underage they weren't all sleeping together or anything, but it was still REALLY controversial... and was possibly the reason she committed suicide. i found out she'd died while i was in the parking lot of a grocery store (which may have been the lot for the train station too) late at night. i don't even think i was upset about it because even dream-me was going ????????????? most of the time lol. the end.
------
you were kinda in the dream i had last night
the first part of it i don't remember well - i was in my hometown, walking around mostly on Smithtown Avenue, and there were a whole bunch of buildings and stores that didn't exist irl. on some level i realized i was dreaming, so i was trying to memorize these places so i'd remember them when i woke... you can imagine how well that worked out lol
in the second part, i was also in my hometown haha. i'd been talking to you on Discord, as usual, had to leave the computer for a while, and when i came back, you'd written me this MASSIVE story about something that'd happened at a beachfront family reunion you'd gone to when you were younger. i read the first message, which was just a bunch of backstory (i think the story itself involved a whale? and some cousin of yours making up a character which was just blatantly ripped off of Philippine mythology???), then went "okay, i have to go to a party now, but this is already HILARIOUS so as soon as i'm back i'll read the rest."
this party was held in the yard of my old elementary school, which was a fair bit bigger than it was IRL. it was nighttime and everything was lit up and decorated, and loads of people were there - most of the kids i went to elementary with, some kids from my junior high and high school, plenty of other randos i didn't know. as usual i was very nervous and awkward lol. i did chat with a couple of people as i gradually made my way to the other end of the yard (somehow i started at the far end?) where the actual school was. i saw Kim and def had a moment of 'jeez, we haven't talked to one another since high school ended fifteen years ago', but we talked a little bit too about something or other. then i asked her what this party was about, since i'd only gotten an invitation a few days ago and decided to drop by and honestly didn't have a clue. she told me it was for Michael Dagrossa - maybe his birthday? idk. kept walking, wound up sitting against the building, sort of between two groups of people who were doing the same thing. Michael himself came over then and was like "hey, it's cool you came, nobody's seen you in years," so obv i went "that's because i moved to Florida????" and then somehow i got involved with this weird "pass the hug along" game except nobody was hugging, we just tapped each others' arms... oh, and at one point someone showed off a piece of artwork they did. it was very anime and i went "oh god, for a second i thought that was Hetalia fanart" and people laughed and i was way more socially acceptable than i've ever been irl. the end. never got to read the rest of your story. :||||
------
god i had this fuckin weird dream... part of it involved a high school gym class that i did not actually attend because i think i had a broken ankle or something, and i was GOING to participate anyway despite Pain except Samuel L. Jackson showed up and refused to let me? also i had a hell of a time actually reaching the gym because for some reason the school was like, made of all these separate parts with random staircases that didn't actually connect to one another and my map was extremely confusing??? and there was a completely different bit where this woman named Cindy was On The Internet and constantly accusing me of kidnapping her daughter Ashlee and keeping her under my bed?????????
------
i dreamed about the two girls from a book i read a few weeks ago... it involved pirates, jewelry, some type of slushie called a 'patee' which was apparently so famous you could get a commemorative pin to prove you'd had one, Publix, Target, a display of glass frogs in the Target, and a harp. i was one of the girls, the other was 'cousin Courtney' (though i mostly called her 'Cor', probably because of How I Feel About That Name lmao). it was very vivid but i don't remember a lot of the actual plot, just bits and pieces.
LOL it was very weird and just seemed like an ordinary slushie, but Courtney got the pin to mark the occasion lol
we had fun though... miss my nonexistent cousin Courtney :|
------
okay so clearly i've been consuming Too Much Mass Effect Content lately because last night i had a dream where i was reading a nonexistent ME novel
all the POV characters were turians and i don't remember most of them well (nor the plot, assuming there was one lmao)
but the ones i do remember were named Lavinia, CJ (short for Castus, which he hated), and Qirrenn. seriously. Qirrenn, pronounced like 'Kieran' except with the accent on the second syllable. the funny thing is that this was a Dweep IN-UNIVERSE - all these Latin/Roman named turians were like ???????? when they saw his name. i think the explanation was that he'd been orphaned as an infant and was raised by quarians instead, but honestly i don't remember much
yeah i think it was just like, a completely normal Quarian name, but this guy didn't tell people he'd been raised in the flotilla so he couldn't just say "yeah, it's Quarian, don't be fucking racist" lmao
also in the dream-novel i believe there was a minor character named Dulcinia, which does not appear to be a real name - closest i found is Dulcinea, which is Spanish... oh well lmao
it was so funny in the dream-novel though, literally EVERY turian this poor guy met was like "what the hell kind of name is that"
------
personally, i dreamed about a summer camp, a weird bike trail that ran through an apartment complex, and a cat who'd laid a bunch of massive eggs beneath a deck. my family was trying to gather the eggs because we wanted to hatch the biggest ones into kittens, but sadly they were broken
somehow i was like... pretending to be a camper at this summer camp even though these kids were like, elementary aged and i definitely do not pass as that young??? and i made friends with a ten-year-old girl and was super happy about it????????
------
meanwhile i woke up this morning from a dream i've been calling 'Escape from Hot Topic'
okay! so! Escape from Hot Topic. obviously this dream took place in a Hot Topic - considering where the store was located i think it was supposed to be in Smith Haven Mall, but honestly, who cares. it was also way, WAY bigger than any Hot Topic i've ever seen, more like a one-story department store. so i'm at the entrance of the store with a bunch of people i assume were my classmates. i felt like i knew all of them even though in hindsight i only recognized Kim. so a guy comes in and has us all gather around, and explains the Hot Topic has basically been arranged into a massive hedge maze, and our objective is to find the way out. everyone who found the exit (which was not the main entrance at the front of the store, i guess) would get to choose a prize. so we're basically unleashed into this "maze" like someone freeing a bunch of captive wild animals. now, it was... not really a maze? some parts were kinda maze-like, but mostly it just seemed very cluttered with displays and racks and whatnot. it also sold a LOT more stuff than the usual Hot Topic, including books and a whole rack of greeting cards. everyone's running around, searching for this hidden exit; a lot of kids were forming groups but i just wandered around by myself. at one point i saw an employee go through an ‘employees only’ door on one side of the store and suspected that was the exit, but it was locked. there was a lot of petty theft going on lol. whole bunch of people had found this cute keychain sorta thing with a little black ghost on it - i ran into Kim and asked where they'd gotten them, she led me over to the cards and said they were apparently in one particular card, people were just stealing them LMAO. there was like one left so i took it and stuck it in my pocket. stick it to the man, amirite?!?
anyway, a little while later i was at the back of the store where the register was. not sure if the cashier was one of us or what, she was hanging out at the desk with a MACHINE GUN but also kinda looking for the exit too. somewhere at the back of the store i found all these boxes that had been carefully lined up with the wall and sorta camouflaged to blend in. they had drawers in them, most of which were empty, but one was FULL of keys. i remembered the employees only door and dumped the drawer out; some of the keys were labeled and i hoped i could find one for that door. the cashier and a couple other meandering kids saw what i was doing and came over to 'help'. kinda figured if they found the key first they'd make a run for it lol. unfortunately, we couldn't find one marked for the employee door and there were so many it'd take ages to test them all. we gathered some other kids and came up with an idea - earlier the guy in charge had said if we did something, he'd have to dress up as some celebrity for us or something?? don't remember this part well and i don't think it really made sense lol. but we got somebody to Do The Thing, so the guy did indeed go off to change into a costume, and he went through the employees only door. we wisely gathered near it, and when he emerged, we rushed the door and i managed to squeeze through just behind another girl and a boy.
the door actually led to the store next door, which mostly seemed to sell a lot of Asian decorations and stuff, but there was a scanner set up to mark us off as we came through and it turned out we were right! we'd found the exit!! so now we were allowed to pick one thing from the Asian store as a prize before we left. everyone was streaming through the door behind us (i was so smug about being third lol) and especially the girls were making a big deal of these adorable pieces of pottery and little statues and whatnot that were apparently Japanese and SUPER popular, but also very expensive normally. so they were going quick. for some reason i had to go back into Hot Topic and by the time i returned, all of that stuff was gone and i was very sad... however, when i walked by the register, the cashier had one of the pieces left. it was a RIDICULOUSLY CUTE little brown piglet statue that he'd planned to damage out because one of the feet was chipped or something, but i was like "NOPE I WILL TAKE THAT THANK YOU". so he wrapped it up for me and put it in a bag, along with this little seed-growing kit i guess he threw in because my statue was broken lol, and then i headed out. i was about to text my parents and let them know i was on my way home when i woke up. weirdest field trip EVER.
------
my dream was very disjointed and confusing and sadly lacked Lucky and Niche haha. in part of it i was back in third grade and very impressed by the flexibility i suddenly had (that i didn't have IRL??), and also i was like 'i should make an active effort to be more social and maybe make more friends!'. so i told a girl i liked her bracelets and she called me gay. didn't even know that word when i was 8... the other part of the dream involved the Room of Requirement from Harry Potter. apparently it was actually a completely separate and normal school for girls? i went in there to hide something and wound up helping console a little girl who was upset about something (she also had a tail). once she walked off, the other girl with her told me i should come to their school, and i was trying to find a way to explain why i couldn't without saying "i'm actually a witch". and there was yet another part of the dream, which i barely remember except that a house was on fire.
------
but iirc it started with me going to this really small fireworks store. i mean, the place was TINY; like twice the size of my bedroom max, stuffed with shelves and displays of colorful fireworks. somehow i got stuck in there overnight?? idk why i couldn't just leave... so i had to spend the night in the store, i guess, but i'm not sure whether or not i actually did. i do remember looking at these fireworks and thinking about how my nonexistent boyfriend and i met because we were both illegally setting off fireworks in like, this empty parking lot in the middle of a forest. i may or may not have left the store at some point to go to a nearby restaurant for dinner, which begs the question of why i didn't just LEAVE ENTIRELY... but maybe i did? because the next thing i know, i'm walking home (in what i think was the late evening) with a dude i knew in elementary/junior high. he was called Donald and was exactly as much of a douche as you'd expect someone named Donald to be. it's been 20 years and i still haven't forgiven him for blatantly lying to our sixth grade teacher on like, the third day of school just to try to get me in trouble. anyway, for whatever reason we're walking along a road through a fairly wooded area when we come across this somewhat ramshackle house/barn. Sarah Palin, of all people, is there, filming some kind of political video. i leaned over the fence and called her name and she came to see what i wanted, at which point i threw a cup of strawberry lemonade into her face, then ran away. immediately afterwards i realized she'd still been filming and therefore i was DEFINITELY caught on video. went "home" to some random house anyway and sure enough, a little while later the police showed up. my dad and i had to go back down the street to some building for my trial lmao.
i have no idea whether i won or lost, but i think they'd decided against like... sending me to prison lol, so i think i was just going to get a fine or something. while we waited for the verdict (or possibly after it, i have no idea) i returned to my house, except now instead of my dad, there was this big bodyguard dude named Sebastian with me. for some reason i did not want Sebastian following me upstairs to my bedroom, so i kept trying to lock doors to keep him out, mostly unsuccessfully. i did make it up to my room alone, and knowing i had only a short time before he reached me, i started mentally making a packing list because i guess i wanted to run away? i'd planned to use this weird dumbwaiter thing located beneath a staircase to get back down to the ground floor and make my escape, but i'm pretty sure that's when i woke up.
my dream: you and your boyfriend met during illicit Firework Shenanigans me: yeah i'll integrate that into my belief system /makes note for the next self-indulgent nonsense i write
------
i had a dream where i lived in Hawaii. i think i was in high school because i was on a sports team and hanging out on a playground with some other girls once, and they said we never did well at away games because it took so long to reach other schools that some of the girls just skipped those games. my house was at the top of a hill. walking up the road, there were more roads and houses to the right and on the left was a fenced-off slope with a chairlift and a waterslide. i can't remember anything about the house itself. one night i wanted to get home fast to take photos of the sky, since the moon was full, and also there was Moon 2: Electric Boogaloo? it was HUGE, full of blue and white swirls that shifted and churned constantly. for some reason i decided the best way to do this was to drive on the beach rather than the road right next to it... i was speeding and just barely avoiding obstacles and shit and not really paying attention because i was so captivated by the moons.
------
my cat woke me up Yelling this morning, and i meant to get up but instead i fell back asleep and had this dream... part of it didn't make sense at all. there was something about a Target and i think a bunch of dudes coming to my house to bother me. the other part was better - i packed up all my crap and went off to college! for some reason, 'all my crap' included two snakes (a fairly large python of some kind, and a teeny-tiny green snake who spent a lot of time just coiled around my wrist) and a lizard which i may or may not have actually gotten after i made it to college. so not long after arrival, i guess, i decide to go take a shower and head down the hall to the communal bathroom. i have both my snakes with me. the little one is fine on my arm, but the big guy, whose name was Rin, needed to be Confined while i showered. there was a massive sink with a wide, flat brim, so i filled it with water and plopped Rin in there; he swam around contentedly and i started one of the showers... only to realize i hadn't brought my shampoo or anything. then i also realized i'd forgotten my door key and couldn't get back into the room. but since i had No Shower Objects i figured i would pop back to the room quick and knock, see if my roommate was there or in class. btw, you were my roommate, so i guess i went to St. Mary. luckily, you were there, and then we... went the other way down the hall to a different bathroom, where all of my stuff was???? you helped me gather it because like, shit was packed really oddly - bottles inside bottles that shouldn't have fit in there - idk why i wasn't just using this shower. finally got it all and left, passed some tables in the hall advertising various clubs, ran into a grandfatherly dude who'd written a cookbook or found a cookbook or something.
he and i had made what was either a yellow cake or cornbread and we were excited to try it later. i returned to the bathroom, which was now inexplicably a huge lecture hall, with the bathroom just tucked into the upper-right corner. some other girl had stolen my shower. Rin was still swimming about, though, and a bunch of people were sitting around the sink, using the edge as a table while they ate?? one girl said she'd kept an eye on the snake for me and i was like "thanks!! :D" no idea if i ever showered or not. i joined the old guy and his cornbread-cake and my whole family arrived. we'd frosted the cake with blue icing and decorated it with stars and constellations, it looked really nice... ofc i leaned over to cut it or something and the lizard, who'd been hanging out on the collar of my shirt, jumped onto the cake and messed up the icing. fortunately we all thought it was funny. we started eating cake (which tasted like cornbread) and my brother was telling me about this office job he'd gotten and then i woke up.
------
my dream last night continued with the Trend of Awesome Skies, i guess - no moon or Moon 2 this time, just an absolutely GORGEOUS Milky Way. my family went to some dude's house... he supposedly lived along the river, but after we went inside and i looked out the windows, suddenly he had a backyard instead of water lol. but i saw the sky and went :OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO and pretty much ran outside with my phone to take pics. for some reason this entailed walking through the big greenhouse in the backyard, which is really the highlight of the dream, because i didn't pay attention to a single damn plant. dude was raising Furbies in there. evidently in this dream they were A. alive, and B. capable of reproduction. fucking appalling.

open season thirsts [3/?] /// Dabi x f!Reader (18+)
Tumblr media
Request: my darling sara dm’d me this request for halloween-themed dabi creeping on poor innocent reader <3
@printhes ily for getting me to make a halloween playlist in fucking september. your mind unparalleled. this is just a drabble but i’ll consider continuing it for real halloween…
Tags/warnings: stalking, mentions of alcohol/drinking, drugging, angel costume ok ok
everything seems a little more spooky on halloween.
your mouth tastes like cranberry juice and white rum and bacardi breezers and you wonder if it stained your lips red. the halloween party you were at was fun, but you shouldn’t’ve had that fourth drink…and you shouldn’t’ve said you’d walk home alone. it’s cold. you didn’t bring a jacket because you thought it would ‘ruin the outfit’, or something—and hey, 5-hours-ago-you has a point. this year you decided you were going to be an angel for halloween, and you don’t own anything that fits over the wings.
still. damn it, why didn’t you bring something to change into? sure, you’re probably not the only pretty girl stumbling down the sidewalk in a too-short costume and too-high heels past midnight on october 31st, but the stretch of pavement you’re walking down is weirdly deserted. no fellow post-party walk-of-shamers, no random teens in ribcage t-shirts smoking in huddles, not even the perpetual annoying men who seem to think yelling about your tits as you pass by should be taken as a compliment.
you don’t know this area of the city well—you took the bus here, and by the time you left the party the buses weren’t running anymore. according to google maps your place is less than a mile away, but everything around here looks unfamiliar. chain link fences, brick walls, rows of iron grating covering closed storefronts. you pass a club you’ve never heard of and hear a snatch of the music pumping from inside—‘this is halloween’, the marilyn manson version. so stereotypical...the clubs have to stick to the theme, right? they played this song at your friend’s party too, and now it’s going to be stuck in your head for weeks.
but the music’s fading into the background now, and the only thing you can hear is the clickclickclick of your shoes against the concrete and the buzzing of the streetlights overhead. mist is hanging low and thick in the air, seeping through the thin satin of your slip and lifting cold sweat onto your skin. the dark feels darker than usual. you check your phone for the dozenth time since you started walking…
no signal.
that’s weird, isn’t it? the neighborhood you’re passing through has gotten steadily more residential than urban, but it’s not like you’re in the middle of nowhere. you stop dead, hold up your phone and turn in a tight circle, trying to coax out a few bars of data.
nothing. damn it. well, you know you have to keep walking in this direction for a while. hopefully if you go far enough, you’ll get somewhere you recognize. you take a step forward, making for the next orange halo from the streetlight at the end of the block.
god, it’s so quiet. shouldn’t there be—like, a dog barking or something? a couple yelling at each other, crappy teen music from a house party, some kids snickering to each other while they TP their principal’s house—something. it’s halloween, for fuck’s sake. it shouldn’t be this quiet. it’s making you imagine things…
…like another set of footsteps behind yours.
click. the heel of your strappy white pump hits the sidewalk. click. you take another step. thud.
you’re imagining things. you stop in your tracks again and twist around to look behind you. there’s no one there, just the blue-black expanse of sidewalk disappearing between the trees. you’re just imagining it.
you start humming. just to have something to listen to that isn’t your shoes and your own nervous breath. as predicted, that fucking song is stuck in your head, so you start murmuring the lyrics quietly.
“come with us and you will see—“
keep going. keep walking. the house next to you is decorated like a 9-year-old’s halloween fantasy—big inflatable jack-o-lanterns lit from the inside, plastic bats hung on strings over the stairs, cotton batting stretched out to look like cobwebs. there’s even a hunched-over witch mannequin sitting on the porch swing with an empty bowl in its hands, the kind of thing you’re sure would bust out a terrifying animatronic cackle if a kid got too close. the next house has foam gravestones sticking out of the yard. the next house has gigantic purple-striped stuffed spiders twined into the trees near the entrance, and the next house—
“—scream in the dead of night—“
the light overhead flickers.
someone’s behind you.
you heard it for sure this time. footsteps, not yours. and the sound of someone flicking a lighter on. you’re not sure why that knowledge makes you shiver—weren’t you wondering why the hell no one else was on this street just a few minutes ago?—but you pick up the pace, almost skipping in the direction of the next light down the block.
don’t look back, you think. maybe you’re still imagining it, maybe the atmosphere is getting to you and you’re nervous for no reason. keep singing. “—everybody’s—everybody’s waiting for the next surprise—“
someone laughs—low, a man, mocking—but don’t think about that. your heart is beating like crazy, fuck, you’re an idiot, who walks home alone on halloween while dressed like the sluttiest angel since lucifer? damn it—your little white slip is riding up on your thighs and you smooth it down with cold damp palms. you can’t run in these shoes, not really, but you want to. he’s probably just passing by. he probably thinks you’re an idiot for running away. you’re being really rude, it’s really—you’re panting—
you hit the circle of light and the rush of adrenaline from being able to see around you makes you pause, turn involuntarily behind you to look for him. but once again, there’s nothing there. maybe you really were dreaming it up. maybe you’re too tired or you’re drunk or maybe you’re losing it.
either way, it’s time to call a damn uber. no more walking in the dark in a nightdress and fluffy white wings. you shrug your phone back out of your purse to check if you have signal yet—one bar, but the map isn’t loading. it feels quiet again and you realized you must’ve stopped singing so you pick up where you left off while you twist around again seeking a better connection. “something’s coming…no, what is it? something’s waiting now to pounce and how you’ll—“
“scream?”
weight on your shoulders. you whip toward the yellow streetlight and he’s in front of it. he’s dressed up, you think dazedly, he’s dressed up for halloween—dark eyes dark hair all those piercings and his face—but then your brain catches up and you try, you try to scream, except a hand is folding something over your mouth and pinching your nose shut and he’s squeezing around the grip you have on your phone until the pain is unbearable and you have to drop it—
you hear it hit the ground. your phone. it probably cracked. but you can’t look, can’t check, can’t bend down. how are you supposed to? a man, a man has you, he has you. the cigarette hanging out of his mouth glows blue and then a cloud of bitter smoke hisses out into your eyes.
his face. god, that has to be a costume, it has to. you need to breathe but he’s holding a damp rag over your mouth like some movie villain but you need to breathe. you shove a fist into the hard muscle of his torso and nothing happens. could you kick him? your legs feel shaky.
you make a whimpering sound and the corner of his mouth curls up into a smile. “are you trying to fight?”
your lungs are screaming. you need oxygen, your head is starting to spin. air rushes into your lungs before you even realize you’ve taken a breath and it tastes wet and warm and sickly sweet. he adjusts his grip so he’s holding you more securely, ready to lift you up when you fall. feels warm against him. you’re already getting dizzy but you shake your head, push weakly against the dark fabric of his shirt.
“save your strength, angel,” he laughs softly. one of those horribly scarred hands cups the side of your face where you’re staring up at him and he pinches your cheek. “…you’re gonna need it.”

It’s Been Too Long
Shinobu Kochou x She/Her Reader
A/N: Alright Shinobu Community, take a fuckin’ sip babes. It’s kind of a long one. My brain was like, friends to enemies to friends to lovers? To which I replied, this is going to be simultaneously too long and too short. I love me some slow burn but also I can’t justify putting that much time into something like this lol. While writing this I learned that one becomes a Hashira by killing a demon moon OR killing at least fifty demons. I didn't know that before, but I was in too deep to fix things. Y’all are a Kinoe rank that probably should be a Hashira given how much slaying you’ve done, sorry! As far as warnings go, I think we’re good. Unless fighting and misunderstandings aren’t your thing. It’ll all be better in the end though!  Word Count: 15,088
The estate was dark and bleak. It had rained for nearly a week straight, the patter of water against the solid structure of the tiled roof was a near constant companion to the blank static of despair that clouded everyone’s minds.
Kochou Kanae had died of lethal injuries bequeathed to her by a high ranking demon who had left her to bleed out as the sun made its appearance. Perhaps if it had risen even just a few minutes prior, she could have evaded such a cruel fate.
Shinobu had found her of course, the world is just that cruel, or perhaps kind in giving her sister that closure, to be able to see her one last time before she took her last gurgling breath.
It was appropriate, the rain. After the funeral it was a temporary reminder of the warmth that had been reaped from the estate, never to be felt again in this lifetime. Not that (Y/n), Kanao, Aoi, or the youngest residents of the estate needed a reminder. Shinobu certainly didn’t either.
“Shinobu, you didn’t come to dinner. Please try to eat something.” (Y/n) coaxed, sliding the door open. The only light came from a small lantern inside the swirling gloom of the room, highlighting Shinobu hunched over her desk with her head in her hands. “Shinobu?”
“It’s only been a week.” (Y/n) strained to hear the taut whisper of the girl who had grown to be her closest friend. The girl who had given her a second chance at life when she had nowhere else to go. It hurt to hear her sound so broken. “It feels like time is standing still and going too fast at the same time.”
(Y/n) set the light meal in front of Shinobu and leaned against the desk, the wood creaked slightly as she did so. “I know what you mean. I feel the same.”
It wasn’t the first time they’ve talked like this. To be survivors of such unthinkable atrocities, one could go crazy keeping it all locked inside. The guilt, fear, helplessness... sometimes the memories played on loop night after night, waking up to the screams in their minds making sick harmonies with their own.
“I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.” Shinobu spoke tentatively after a moment of drizzling static tapping against the roof. She raised herself just enough to wrestle a paper out from under her arms and slid it to (Y/n). “Oyakata-sama has sent me a summons to meet with him and the Hashira. He intends for me to take,” Shinobu’s voice grew tighter and she could not bring herself to finish, instead a painful sounding intake of air was all that was audible.
(Y/n) took the paper, holding it close to her face as she squinted, the dull light of the lantern made the letter a bit difficult to read, but the message was clear.
“He wants you to take her place.” (Y/n) frowned, a pained gleam pricked at the corners of her eyes.
“It’s been too long, but yet, not long enough,” Shinobu’s fists tightened, “I know the world hasn’t stopped spinning, demons haven’t stopped killing, but why do they want to replace her so quickly? Why are they willing to toss her aside? I don’t...”
“Shinobu,”
Shinobu finally looked up at (Y/n), angry and mournful tears tracked down her face, “I’m not my sister, I’m not Hashira material. I can’t fill the hole she left, (Y/n)!”
(Y/n) abandoned her perch on the desk to crouch beside Shinobu, enveloping her in her arms. Shinobu tightly grasped her back, watery gasps and sharp inhales fell from her lips as she tried to gain control of her breathing once more.
“Oyakata-sama knows you aren’t Kanae. You’re strong in your own right, Shinobu. He wouldn’t breach the subject if he didn’t think you could succeed by your own merits.”
“I have to keep the estate in order, the infirmary, the girls... I can’t take all this responsibility—“
“You don’t have to,” (Y/n) cut her off, the words came a bit sharper than she meant them too, “you’re not alone Shinobu. We can all have our own parts to play. You don’t have to shoulder this all by yourself.”
“Thank you.” Shinobu’s voice cracked.
They had stayed up well into the night. They hardly talked, the two young girls sat huddled together, holding each other tightly. No matter how much they’ve been hurt, time continues moving forward. Just because a boat has been shredded against a reef, that doesn’t mean the waves will grant reprieve from their assault. No, one is expected to keep swimming or to swallow the salty brine and drown. The Butterfly Estate’s allotted time for grief had passed. Now they were being given the not so subtle command that it was time to get back to work.

“I wish you could come with me.” Shinobu said the next morning as she sat on the engawa to put on her shoes. “Even if they made you wait outside I would feel a bit better.”
“You’ll be okay, we’ll be thinking about you all day and waiting for you to come back home.” (Y/n) assured, resting her hand on Shinobu’s back. She was almost afraid to touch the haori Shinobu now adorned, as if her hand would pass right through the material.
(Y/n) was surprised when she saw Shinobu wearing it instead of her usual short white haori, though she supposed there was comfort in holding this piece of her sister close. Perhaps the butterfly patterned haori could comfort Shinobu where (Y/n) and the others could not.
(Y/n) must have been staring too long because Shinobu leaned away from her hand, catching it with her own before (Y/n) could withdraw it completely. Shinobu squeezed the hand a moment, (Y/n) swore her heart froze upon seeing the ghostly smile painted over Shinobu’s lips.
“You’re right. No point in fretting over it, is there?”
“...Right,” (Y/n) blinked, “yeah. You’re going to do great.” (Y/n) managed a smile in return but she could feel the corner of her lips tremble at the effort. She wasn’t sure why, but this smile Shinobu was sporting sent chills down her spine.
“I’ll be off then,” Shinobu stood, releasing (Y/n)’s hand as she stepped away from the engawa, “Do make sure to keep everything in order while I’m away.”
“Of course!” (Y/n) winced at her own volume and Shinobu exhaled a quiet chuckle before turning away to make her way down the path. (Y/n) watched until the haunting haori could no longer be seen between the wisteria trees.
***
It was rather late when Shinobu returned. (Y/n) had just helped the youngest girls of the estate get ready for bed and was heading to the kitchens to prepare some tea to help her sleep. She had jumped in her skin when she saw the back of the butterfly patterned haori in the dim lantern light. Shinobu turned at the sound and sent a small, tired smile (Y/n)’s way.
“I thought I’d catch you here before you turned in for the night.” Shinobu spoke. “You almost always take a cup of tea to bed. I hope you don’t mind having some of what I’ve already prepared.”
It wasn’t the first time Shinobu caught her going to the kitchen to make tea. Though usually it was much later in the dead of night when nightmares and grief kept sleep at bay. (Y/n) wasn’t sure what kind of leaves or brewing Shinobu did, but her tea always managed to knock (Y/n) out cold into deep, dreamless bliss. Something about the way Shinobu was speaking was rubbing (Y/n) the wrong way however. There was none of the familiar attitude. The bashful bitterness that came with the sweetness of the tea. (Y/n) decided to shake it off and returned Shinobu’s tired smile. It would take time for things to seem normal again.
“You know me too well. Thank you.” (Y/n) graciously took the cup, relishing in the cup’s warmth and the relaxing scent that wafted off of the steam. “How did today go?”
“It was... fine.” Shinobu’s smile faltered and she quickly disguised it by sipping her own tea. “I’m officially a Hashira. Insect Pillar Kochou Shinobu.”
“It has a nice ring to it.” (Y/n) put in after a moment’s consideration hidden behind the guise of her clearing her throat. She didn’t know if a ‘congratulations’ would be what Shinobu would want to hear give the circumstances that led up to her new title.
“And how was holding down the fort?” Shinobu asked. It seemed she wanted to shift the topic of conversation away from herself. Not that (Y/n) could blame her.
“Everything went smoothly. Well, Aoi did get a bit aggravated with Kanao about one of her coin decisions but we worked it out. Sumi, Kiyo and Naho are picking up the recovery training lessons quickly and are doing very well. The Kakushi have been taking great care of the infirmary. All patients were still stable last I checked in.” (Y/n) reported.
“Thank you for keeping up with all of that.”
“I have to pull my weight around here somehow.” (Y/n) replied, hiding a yawn behind one hand.
“It’s getting late. You should get to bed before the tea kicks in any further.” Shinobu said, putting her own cup down.
“Aren’t you getting tired too?”
“I made myself a different brew, actually. I’ve got more work to do.” Shinobu allowed herself a little sly smile at the tiny frown (Y/n) wore as she looked into her own empty cup as if it had betrayed her somehow.
“Well, don’t forget you need to sleep too. Don’t overwork yourself.”
“Goodnight, (Y/n).” Shinobu called over her shoulder. She was already walking out of the kitchen.
“I mean it Shinobu. Promise me you’ll sleep tonight.” (Y/n) gently demanded, slipping into the hall to fall in step beside Shinobu.
“I’ll promise to try. Is that acceptable?” Shinobu asked, a bit of familiar snark came through and it made (Y/n) relax a bit and nod.
“Alright. Goodnight, Shinobu.”
At the end of the hall they broke off in different directions. Shinobu to the lab and (Y/n) to her room.
***
(Y/n) went through most of her morning routine before going out of her way to find the newly appointed Hashira. She hadn’t seen her since they parted last night. (Y/n) groaned inwardly, already assuming she’d find the young scientist still balancing equations and mixing beakers.
(Y/n) adjusted her butterfly hairpin before knocking her knuckles against the door, waiting for a reply.
“Shinobu?” (Y/n) had called out after another knock led to no reply. (Y/n) frowned and slid the door open of her own volition, closing it behind her once she was inside. It didn’t take long for her to find the exhausted girl hunched over an array of papers, dead asleep.
“When I told you to go to sleep last night, I had your own bed in mind, not a desk.” (Y/n) sighed quietly.
(Y/n) startled at another knock at the door.
“Who is it?” She asked, keeping her voice soft as to not disturb Shinobu.
“It’s Hayato, miss.” The muffled voice called. Ah, one of the Kakushi. “Kochou-sama has guests to attend to.”
“Set them up in the garden with tea, please. Kochou-sama will meet them just as soon as she finishes these papers.” (Y/n) said. It would not do to have news of the young master of the estate sleeping so late in the morning, and at her desk no less.
The Kakushi dismissed himself to carry out his orders and (Y/n)’ shoulders relaxed as his footprints faded down the hall. (Y/n) didn’t want to wake Shinobu, but if her presence was required, then the meeting must be important.
“Hey, Shinobu,” (Y/n) called softly, gently shaking Shinobu’s shoulders, “you have guests that need to see you.”
Shinobu managed to curl further into herself, mumbling a few curses under her breath that (Y/n) couldn’t help but giggle at.
“Maybe you’d feel better if you had actually gone to bed instead of passing out like this.”
“Who is it, what do they need?” Shinobu grumped, sitting up to stretch her abused spine.
“I’m not sure. A Kakushi came by to tell you about them. I asked him to set them up in the garden with tea.”
“Thank you for taking care of that,” Shinobu rubbed her eyes and stood, her chair scratching against the floor, “I should get going then.”
“Let me fix your hair quick at least.” (Y/n) said, already freeing Shinobu of her own butterfly clip. “Hold still.”
“It’s a little hard when you keep tugging your fingers through my hair.” Shinobu winced.
“Sorry, just a second.” (Y/n) spoke around the butterfly wing that she held between her lips as her fingers worked to gather Shinobu’s hair. Once Shinobu’s hair was neatly clipped back into place, (Y/n) circled her and smoothed out the wrinkles in Shinobu’s clothes the best she could before finally backing away with a satisfied nod.
“Are you done yet?” Shinobu asked, a faint dusting of blush powdered her cheeks.
“Yeah, you still look tired, but at least you look a little more presentable.” (Y/n) said, opening the lab door and ushering Shinobu through it.
“Presentable.” Shinobu scoffed. “Come with me to the garden?”
“I don’t know if that would be appropriate. I’m not sure who is visiting.”
“Just make yourself busy in the blooms. You live here, you can go where you please.”
“Okay, I’ll come.”
The young girls made their way outside, it was warm and sunny, a bit humid as well after all the rain the week before. The sweet smell of the flowers invited deeper breaths to swallow up the scent into every bronchiole of their lungs.
(Y/n) broke off from Shinobu with a little wave, giving a respectful acknowledgment to the people waiting with their tea before busying herself with the flora. Checking on the quality of the plants as Kanae had taught her. The memories spent with the older girl who had taught her so much made (Y/n) shiver despite the warmth of the sun beating down.
(Y/n) would on occasion, discreetly observe the progression of the meeting. The smile Shinobu wore as she spoke to the visitors unnerved her. Even just the way Shinobu was holding herself now, prim and proper, (Y/n) wondered what they could possibly be talking about.
Then the familiar cawing of a crow circling over her head broke (Y/n) from her thoughts. She released her gentle grip over the flower she had stopped to smell and craned her neck to see her crow calling out to her. A mission, her heartbeat picked up in pace. She hadn’t been on one since a few days before Kanae’s death. How out of practice could she be?
“Pardon the noise,” (Y/n) bowed. The meeting had paused in their hushed conversation to observe the bird as well. (Y/n) hardly gave Shinobu a glance as she past. Her fingers trembling slightly as she made her way back inside to retrieve her nichirin blade from her room. (Y/n)’s mind buzzed and her crow’s caws sounded muted and muffled, far away. She kept walking, willing her breaths to remain controlled. Her concentration broke as a hand reached out from behind her and tugged her back.
(Y/n) turned to meet Shinobu’s eyes. Though more subdued, the concern she saw there was genuine.
“(Y/n), I kept telling you to stop. Are you listening to me?”
“I’m sorry, I guess I was just focusing on the mission ahead.”
Shinobu breathed deeply releasing the air in a shaky exhale before gripping (Y/n)’s face in one hand, surprising her.
“No you weren’t.” Shinobu’s grip was firm, “You need to concentrate on your surroundings. I was almost yelling at you just now. I need to know you are going to be able to keep your head about you out there.”
(Y/n) tried to nod her head but Shinobu’s hand kept her head in place.
“I need to hear you say it.” Shinobu said.
“I can keep my head. I will.” (Y/n) swallowed uncomfortably.
Shinobu searched (Y/n)’s face, slowly releasing her grip from (Y/n)‘s jaw and instead grabbed at the neck of (Y/n)’s uniform pulling her so close their noses bumped.
“You better,” She spoke softly.
“I will,” (Y/n) repeated.
Shinobu untensed, her fingers released (Y/n)’s uniform and she wrapped her arms around her in a tight hug that (Y/n) quickly reciprocated.
“Your meeting,” (Y/n) recalled after a moment.
“I asked to be excused. I’m the master of the estate, I can get away with escaping for for a few minutes.”
“I wouldn’t make a habit out of it if I were you.” (Y/n) attempted to joke.
“Only when it matters.” Shinobu nodded seriously, causing (Y/n)’s heart to leap.
(Y/n)’s crow cawed impatiently and the girls parted. (Y/n) left to retrieve her blade and Shinobu watched her back as she left, her hands clenched into tight fists beneath the sleeves of her sister’s haori.
***
Night after night, the missions kept coming. (Y/n) had begun to wonder if she’d ever get to go home again as days became weeks. Scattered letters between waves of demon slaying were the best she could manage to make sure everyone back home knew she was alright.
Another night, a new moon. A few more nights and it would be a full month since she’d last seen everyone. She was glad she took the time to say goodbye before she left. She never imagined she’d be asked to work for so long without reprieve.
Another well timed flower breathing technique beheads another demon and (Y/n) falls against the trunk of a tree breathing hard. She is uninjured but greatly fatigued. The thought to sit and rest hardly enters her mind before her crow commands her eastward to eliminate another threat before dawn.
Breath after breath, technique after technique, night after night (Y/n) fought until everything ached and beyond. When she saw the the sun peak out over the horizon it was almost enough to bring (Y/n) to tears, but she never faltered. She had to stay strong. This was the life she chose to pursue. To save people from the same fate that befallen so many people she had cared about.
It was during an exceptionally hot day when the sun was at its highest point that (Y/n) flinched awake at the shrill squawks she had grown to loathe.
“What?” She hissed between her teeth, her fingers knotting in the grass that had served as her bed for the day.
“Return home to the Butterfly Estate! Return home to recover and rest! Await further instruction!”
(Y/n) lifted herself to rest on her elbows to stare wide-eyed at the bird sitting in the tree branch overhead. For the first time in that very long month, she allowed the tears to finally fall.
***
(Y/n) felt nervous coming back after so long. She opted to return from the rear entrance in an attempt to not garner too much attention. She allowed herself a tentative smile as the gardens came into view. Her fingers skimmed across the colorful blooms as she walked, freezing up only when she saw Shinobu collecting herbs in the distance. Her foot snapped a twig, alerting Shinobu to glance behind her.
“Hi, stranger.” Shinobu simpered, getting to her feet. “Oh!”
(Y/n) forgot all her previous worries and jogged up to Shinobu, picking her up with the added strength that she had built up in her month long absence and twirled her around with abandon.
“(Y/n)?” Shinobu chuckled with surprise, bracing her arms around (Y/n)‘s shoulders as she was flung around.
“I missed you!” (Y/n) sniffled, finally putting the girl down but still holding her tightly.
“I missed you too.” Shinobu said, rubbing (Y/n)’s back. “What took so long getting back, hm?”
“Mission after mission after mission.” came (Y/n)’s bitter reply. “I actually cried when my crow told me I could come home... I don’t know why I told you that. That’s embarrassing.”
Shinobu laughed, pulling back from (Y/n) to get a good look at her. “My, (Y/n), I can tell your time away had made you stronger. Even if you are still a bit of a crybaby.”
“Hey!” (Y/n) pouted.
“(Y/n) is back!”
“Woah!”
(Y/n) was sent stumbling backward a few steps by three blurs of white. Naho, Sumi and Kiyo spoke a mile a minute filling in (Y/n) on all the goings on of the estate. Aoi and Kanao came by soon after and gave (Y/n) their own greetings, expressing their happiness over the slayer’s return in their own ways.
It was good to be home, it was. But after a few days, (Y/n) really got a chance to see how different Shinobu had become.
The tone of her voice carried like a soft breeze and a polite smile could always be seen on her lips. Aoi reminded (Y/n) more of the Shinobu she remembered than the current Shinobu before her. It unnerved her. The way Shinobu would tilt her head just so and giggle daintily into her hand... it was like staring at a ghost.
(Y/n) thought she could get over the change, but she simply couldn’t. Not when staring into those dark, purple eyes. Oh, how they swirled with anger and despair. If Shinobu couldn’t fully believe in the persona she had crafted for herself, then (Y/n) wouldn’t either. Late one night while helping Shinobu in the lab, (Y/n) finally decided to confront her.
“Why do you keep smiling like that?” (Y/n) frowned, worrying the page of the textbook before her between her fingers.
“Hm? I’m afraid I don’t quite know what you mean.” Shinobu replied casually, smile still firmly in place as she crushed some herbs under her pestle.
“You do too know what I mean,” (Y/n) eyebrows furrowed slightly in aggravation, “why do you keep smiling like you’re okay when you’re clearly not?”
“What have I said or done that makes you think I’m not okay? I’m perfectly fine, (Y/n),” she chuckled, “you worry for nothing.”
“That mask might have everyone else fooled... or maybe they’re just complacent, but I’m tired of pretending nothing is wrong. Talk to me, Shinobu.”
“Don’t be ridiculous,” Shinobu shook her head, “there is nothing to discuss. Perhaps I’ve kept you up too late.”
“You shouldn’t have to hide what you’re truly feeling,” (Y/n) persisted, “not from me at least. I thought we were friends.”
“We are.” Shinobu’s tone was nearly clipped as she crushed the herbs a bit more vigorously.
“Then stop acting so, so fake!” (Y/n) spat, wincing almost immediately as fast has the words came out. There was probably a better way she could have said that. Before she could apologize and try again, Shinobu put the pestle on the table with a harsh clink and stalked over to where (Y/n) was sitting. Fighting to keep her tone in check, she stared (Y/n) down with that plastic smile and spoke in a low, hushed tone that filled (Y/n)’s veins with ice.
“So I’m fake, is that right? People change, (Y/n). You were gone for a month, you can’t expect everyone to wait for you, to not change or grow in your absence.”
“People change, yes,” (Y/n) swallowed tightly at the proximity, “but whatever this is Shinobu, I really don’t think it’s healthy. I can tell you’re bottling something up. Kanae—”
“Leave.”
“...what?”
“Leave,” Shinobu closes the textbook in front of (Y/n) and although she does so with care, the sound is deafening in (Y/n)’s ears, “I don’t care where you go, just get out of my lab. I’ve had my fill of this mindless chatter.”
“Are you being serious right now?” (Y/n) clenched her fists and stood from her chair, the legs slid roughly against the wood below.
“Yes, I don’t have time for immature children right now I’m afraid.” Came Shinobu’s airy reply.
“Immature— stop acting like you know better than me, we’re both kids, we’re fourteen!“ (Y/n) seethes, “I’m worried about you! I care about you! Don’t you get it?”
“Your worry is unfounded. It’s late and you are being of no help to me like this so I’ll ask you once more, leave.”
(Y/n) felt heat pricking the corners of her eyes. “I feel like I don’t know who you are anymore.” She breathed. “But fine, I’ll leave if that’s what you want.”
“At this moment in time, I couldn’t ask for anything better.” Shinobu replied, turning her back to (Y/n) to continue what she had previously been working on.
Once (Y/n) shut the door with finality and her quick footsteps became softer as she ran down the hall, Shinobu exhaled harshly, gripping the pestle tightly in her hand as she mercilessly pounded the dried herbs into dust.
“Only immature people don’t control their emotions... only immature people...”
As Shinobu repeated her mantra, (Y/n) burst into her room and looked around her. With trembling hands she changed into a fresh uniform and packed a small bag of belongings and slinging it over her shoulder. She grabbed her haori and attached her nichirin blade to her hip.
She looked around the room once more and caught her reflection in the little hand mirror on her desk, catching the bright colors of a wing that secured her hair in place. She reached back, freeing her hair from the clip and stared at it. She ran her thumb over the decorative clip before setting it on the desk. She reached for a plain hair band and tied her hair back with that instead.
(Y/n) left her room, sparing one last hurt glance at the butterfly clip before exiting the estate grounds. Before long, her crow circled overhead and (Y/n) held her arm out for the bird to take perch. The crow cawed at her expectantly, questioning her.
“If she wants me to leave, then what else is there to do?” (Y/n) shuddered in the wind. She turned away from the estate, willing herself not to turn back.
“Where will you go?” The crow asked.
“...I don’t know.”
With every step leaving the warmth of the estate farther behind, (Y/n)’s heart grew heavier in her chest.
***
“Have any of you seen (Y/n) today?” Shinobu asked the girls once they had come back in after hanging the laundry out to dry.
A chorus of negatives and head shakes met her and she sighed inwardly. “Very well then. Thank you.”
Shinobu traveled through the maze of hallways that made up her home, easily finding herself in front of (Y/n)’s door, knocking politely. With no reply, Shinobu forced herself not to roll her eyes and opened the door.
“(Y/n), if this is about last night...” Shinobu blinked at the empty room. Futon made, clean floors, not a thing out of place, but no (Y/n).
“Perhaps she’s out training.” Shinobu said to herself. She was about to close the door and head off into the gardens when a glint from the desk caught her eye and she approached. A soft gasp left her lips as she picked up the hairpin. Cradling it in her hands, Shinobu forced her breaths to remain controlled. (Y/n) had never gone a day without wearing the pin since the Kochou sisters gifted it to her.
In the safety of the empty room, Shinobu allowed herself to slump over the desk. She held the discarded hairpin close to her chest, immediately understanding what this small symbol meant. Yes, she knew what it meant, she just wished to know why. She fought against the waves, against the feeling that she was drowning again.
***
Four years was a long time, and if you asked (Y/n), the demon slayer would say that was especially true with her line of work. The demons were never the same, but the routine in between was lonely and dull. Kill a demon, settle down at an inn or in the trees for the day, move to the next village and repeat. Sometimes the stays were longer, but that was the gist of it.
(Y/n) kept to herself most of the time. There wasn’t really a point in making anything more than loose acquaintances with the constant traveling and dangers her work presented. Even on the few missions she had been paired up with other slayers in the area, she focused on the job at hand before quickly making her way to her next assignment. That started to change after she met Kamado Tanjirou and his demon sister Nezuko.
They did not get off on the right foot to say the least.
(Y/n) had been sent to the same location as the young slayer for a mission and knew something was off about him right away. Something off with that box he carried around anyway. (Y/n) opted to let him be for the time being, focusing on the mission ahead. Skip forward to the heat of battle, and (Y/n) could hardly believe her eyes when a demon burst from the boy’s box to attack another demon that had snuck around Tanjirou’s back.
(Y/n) had no time to watch and focus on this new development at the moment, she had her own demons to take care of. Her flower breathing techniques weaved through her enemies and heads went flying. Before long, the mission was completed and (Y/n) turned to the boy breathing heavily in the dirt with the demon from the box hovering over him looking at (Y/n) with curious eyes.
“You’re really skilled, (Y/n)-san!” Tanjirou praised, somehow unaware of the danger his sister was in, “You don’t even look like you’re out of breath.”
“I’ve been doing this for years. I know a lot. For instance,” (Y/n) spoke, her face stern as stone as she readied her blade, startling Tanjirou, “every demon must be destroyed.” She went in with a quick slash aimed at the demon’s neck  only to pause at the last second when the foolish younger boy leapt to his feet to shield the demon from the blow.
“What are you doing?” (Y/n) asked sternly.
“Wait, she’s my sister! She’s a good demon!”
“I shouldn’t have to tell you that what you are doing is against corps rules. I can sympathize with wanting to hold onto your loved ones, but there is no such thing as a good demon. Step aside.”
“No, Nezuko has never eaten a human and she never will!” Tanjirou held his ground while his sister growled at (Y/n) from behind him.
(Y/n) rolled her eyes. “Alright then,” she said with a sarcastic sweetness, “prove it.”
“What?” Tanjirou blinked.
“Prove it, take off the muzzle. Let’s see if she has as much control as you claim she does.”
“But—“
“It shouldn’t be a problem, right? If she’s as docile as you claim what’s the issue?”
Tanjirou grit his teeth and gently pulled the muzzle to rest around his sister’s neck. (Y/n) stepped forward, her face inches away from the demon. She wasn’t worried, if the demon lunged for her she was confident she could slice its head the moment the air changed.
“Well demon?” (Y/n) sighed, surprising Tanjirou by slicing the pad of her thumb on her sharp blade, “hungry?”
To Nezuko’s credit, she hardly flinched. However, her eyes followed the path of the blood and a small trickle of drool slid past her lips. (Y/n) taunted her a bit further, waving the bloodied hand in front of her nose, still Nezuko held strong and even went as far as turning away.
“...I must say, I’m rather impressed,” (Y/n) finally spoke, stepping back from the demon and licking at her own wound, “marechi blood such as my own usually makes the demons go crazy,” she turns back to Tanjirou, “still, you must know that keeping a demon alive like this, especially as a slayer, is dangerous for both of you.”
“I know,” Tanjirou bowed his head.
“Well,” (Y/n) stretched and sighed, “as long as you know I guess it’s your own problem.”
“Huh?”
“Yeah, just don’t call me out if a Hashira finds you out. I don’t feel like dying a disgrace.” (Y/n) waved him off. “You’re going to have to work even harder and be more discreet. That’s my advice to you.” And (Y/n) was going to leave it at that and walk away, but then her crow chanted in tandem with Tanjirou’s, calling them to continue forward together. (Y/n)′s eye twiched at the grating sounds.
“It looks like we’ll still be working together for some time, (Y/n)-san!” Tanjirou smiled, catching the older girl off guard by the sincerity behind it. You’d think he’d be more put off considering (Y/n) was planning to kill his sister not five minutes ago.
“I suppose we are.”
“Say, (Y/n)-san, you’re strong. You can help me get stronger too, right?”
“Mm!”
“Hey, get her off of me!” (Y/n) momentarily panicked as the demon wrapped her arms around her waist.
“Nezuko, manners!”
(Y/n) wasn’t sure what she had done to get saddled with the strange siblings, but she could tell her job just went above her pay grade.
***
As it turns out, the Kamado siblings weren’t so bad. In fact, (Y/n) was starting to get really attached to the two. It was when Inosuke and Zenitsu were pulled into their little group, that was when (Y/n) realized she didn’t know what true pain was.
“(Y/n)-san, marry me!”
“Flower Girl, fight me!”
All damn day and night.
(Y/n) thought she’d finally have reprieve once Tanjirou had healed up at the Wisteria House, but of course the two boisterous boys were being sent with them to their next mission, Natagumo Mountain.
Zenitsu cowered at the forest edge and (Y/n) felt no remorse in leaving him behind as she sprinted ahead of Inosuke and Tanjirou, freeing the puppeted Mizunoto slayers.
Eventually they had been split off from each other to fight their own battles. (Y/n) was tired but otherwise unharmed, surprised when a small Nezuko came barreling into her.
“Nezu—?” (Y/n) gasped as the air shifted above her and she dodged the quick swipe aimed at the tiny body that clung to her. She quickly pivoted, blade in hand, and crossed swords with the assailant her eyes blowing wide at the placid face in front of her.
“Kanao?!” (Y/n) yelled out, the nostalgia and adrenaline coursing through her body was an odd, slightly terrifying combination.
Kanao tilted her head, her lips parted ever so slightly as recognition gleamed in her eyes. Despite this, Kanao did have a mission to complete and (Y/n) was keeping her from completing her orders. She continued swiping at the older girl she used to know, trying to behead the demon she could not fathom why she was protecting.
(Y/n) parried and blocked best she could, taking a defensive approach while she tried to talk Kanao down. She didn’t want to hurt Kanao, but she didn’t want Nezuko to be killed either.
Finally a saving grace, a crow swooping by with a message that saved Nezuko’s neck. (Y/n) sighed in relief as Kanao pulled back. Still looking at (Y/n) she pointed to the small demon that had wrapped herself tightly over (Y/n)’s back.
“Is this Nezuko?” She asked looking for a positive ID on the demon in question.
“Yes.” (Y/n) easily replied.
“Come with me then.” Kanao said, already corralling (Y/n) and her demon backpack in the direction of the forest edge.
(Y/n) walked alongside her a bit begrudgingly. If she made a break for it, she could have probably gotten away, but it was very likely Tanjirou and the others were already in custody. The best chance they had now was to do as they were told and hope Nezuko’s resolve would stand firm.
So (Y/n) hid Nezuko in her haori as the sun began to peak over the hills and followed Kanao to the clearing of bustling Kakushi. On the way, she began preparing her story for the trial she was sure her little team was bound to endure.
She was immediately broken from her thoughts at the ethereal sight of the Insect Pillar emerging from another point of the woods with the Water Pillar and a badly beaten Tanjirou on his back.
(Y/n)’s breath caught in her throat as those deep, dark eyes found hers at it was like time was at a stand still. At least it would have been if not for Shinobu steadily making her way towards her, her expression painfully impassive beyond the small upturn of her lips. Shinobu kept coming until she was directly in front of (Y/n).
Nezuko stirred in her sleep, clutching at (Y/n)’s back as if she could sense anxiety in the slayer’s heart. The demon was the only thing grounding her at this point as Shinobu tilted her head, an almost sinister look in her eye as she observed the small demon bundle protected by (Y/n)’s haori. All too soon, her cold eyes found their way back to (Y/n)’s and she spoke.
“I’m not going to have to tie you up, am I?”
(Y/n) closed her eyes briefly and tried to take a calming breath. With a short, almost imperceivable shake of her head, she hoarsely replied.
“No.”
“Let’s try to keep it that way then.”
Shinobu and Kanao had let (Y/n) help Nezuko into her box, but then they immediately separated the two, having a Kakushi carry the box with a wary look in her eyes. (Y/n) did her best not to look behind her where Kanao and Shinobu walked, no doubt watching her for any sign of flight.
She gulped, eyes nervously shifting to the Water Pillar walking beside her, and the Kakushi who was now carrying Tanjirou in his stead. The Water Pillar spared her an emotionless glance as he forged ahead.
“Is he going to be alright?” She asked in a hushed tone.
Enough time had passed after her question that (Y/n) had figured the man wasn’t in the mood to talk, understandably so, but (Y/n) was worried about the state Tanjirou was in. She nearly jumped out of her skin when he actually answered her minutes later.
“That will all depend on how the trial goes.”
(Y/n) felt dread pool in her stomach as they continued to march down the mountain.
***
The garden of the Master’s estate would have been lovely on any other occasion, but (Y/n) could only bring herself to stare at the pebbles below her knees and Tanjirou passed out at her side. They had taken Nezuko somewhere else in the meantime, she could only hope they would let the demon be, let her prove herself in front of them instead of killing her on principle.
(Y/n) could feel that Shinobu was standing just behind her but she dared not engage. Four years of silence between the two and a trial for treason in the highest regard had brought them together again. (Y/n) wanted to scream.
Finally Tanjirou began to stir and (Y/n) allowed herself to push away her turmoil to rouse the younger boy gently. The last thing they needed was for him to be all up in arms before the trial even officially began.
“(Y/n)-san,” Tanjirou winced, “where are we? Where is Nezuko?”
“We’re at the Demon Slayer Headquarters,” (Y/n) replied, her voice was hardly above a whisper as she felt the pressure of all the Hashira’s eyes boring into them, “I don’t know where they’re keeping Nezuko, but right now you need to focus on the trial ahead.”
“The trial?”
“For harboring a demon, Tanjirou.”
“I wouldn’t bother trying to justify it! A crime as heinous as yours only ends one way!” Rengoku Kyojirou loudly proclaimed, rallying a range of replies from his fellow pillars.
“Now that he’s finally awake to witness his punishment, let’s behead these traitors and the demon and get on with our lives.” Uzui Tengen added.
“Please,” (Y/n) forced her voice not to waiver, “allow him to explain the situation at least—“
“You’re in no position to be asking for favors, girl.” Obanai Iguro cut her off, glaring down at her from where he lounged on a tree branch. “You had best hold your tongue. A slayer at your rank should be ashamed. I’m surprised you haven’t already sliced yourself open for the embarrassment you’ve brought to the corps.”
“Iguro-san!” Kanroji gasped at the harsh words.
“Who are these people, (Y/n)-san?” Tanjirou groaned, noticing for the first time that his hands were tied tightly behind his back.
“Tanjirou, are you serious?” (Y/n)’s tone was hushed and urgent, “they’re the Hashira! You know, best of the demon slayers?”
“I don’t know, umph!” (Y/n) hastily covered his mouth, a nervous sweat gathered at her brow.
“Just try to be respectful, will you? You already broke the thin ice you’ve been traveling on, let’s try not to drown as well!”
“This isn’t right, (Y/n)-san! Where is Nezuko? Zenitsu? Inosuke? Murata?” Tanjirou spoke out, his voice heavy with emotion as he fought his way up to his knees.
“What I want to know is why we haven’t tied Tomioka or the Kinoe ranked slayer.” Obanai sneered from his tree, ignoring Tanjirou’s desperate tone. “They are both part of the boy’s schemes and should be punished as such. How are we going to teach them a lesson?”
“Oh they’ll be fine,” (Y/n) shivered hearing Shinobu speak above her from where she knelt in the pebbles, “we’ll come up with a penalty later.”
(Y/n) froze, her eyes refused to look up beyond the feet that stood before Tanjirou and herself.
“What I’m interested right now, is hearing this boy’s story.” Shinobu said. “He’s been traveling with a demon all this time, and I wish to hear why. It must be quite the tale to have Tomioka-san break ranks,” the feet take a step closer and Shinobu’s voice dropped in volume, “and you as well, (Y/n).”
(Y/n) tightened her grip over her pant leg, still refusing to look up. She could imagine an array of expressions her old friend could be wearing right now that could cut her deeper than any blade. Pity, anger, disgust, smugness, apathy, that blank smile... no, (Y/n) couldn’t bear to look up.
“So why, Kamado Tanjirou?” Shinobu asked.
“Who cares?” Uzui scoffed from a few yards away, yet he waited for the boy to explain himself.
“She’s my—“ he broke into a fit of coughs and (Y/n) tried to soothe his back, telling him to breathe.
Shinobu stooped down, a gourd of water in hand, offering the water to Tanjirou and finally catching (Y/n)’s eyes as the boy drank the medicated water. When Shinobu’s eyes returned to Tanjirou, (Y/n) remembered how to breathe.
“She’s my little sister!” Tanjirou proclaimed. “She’s never hurt anyone and she never will!”
A few of the Hashira began casting their doubt, but Tanjirou powered through.
“I became a slayer to find a cure for her! In two whole years since she became a demon, she’s never eaten a single person! Let her continue to fight by my side!”
“Well, well, looks like the fun’s already starting.”
(Y/n) turned her head and her breathing hitched. Of course the Wind Pillar of all people would get his hands on Nezuko’s box.
“Is this the boy who has been traveling with a demon? Just what the hell do you think you’re doing?” Shinazugawa asked with a sinister grin.
“Please put down the box Shinazugawa-sama!” The Kakushi (Y/n) recalled to have prior possession of the box pleaded.
“Shinazugawa, please do not act out of line.” Shinobu warned.
“Nah, run that by me again, kid?” Sanemi jeered, holding the box precariously in one hand, “fighting alongside a demon? Impossible, you idiot!”
Tanjirou and (Y/n) called out in horror as the Hashira rammed his blade clean through the box, skewering Nezuko.
Tanjirou scrambled to his feet and lunged at Sanemi, (Y/n) was about to get to her feet as well, but Shinobu held her firmly in place, clutching (Y/n)’s arm tightly while shooting her a warning glance.
(Y/n) could only watch, mouth agape, as Tanjirou head butted Shinazugawa to the ground.
Mitsuri attempted to stifle a snort, covering her face in her hands.
“If you can’t tell the difference between good demons and bad ones, then you don’t deserve to be a Hashira!” Tanjirou yelled.
“We’re doomed.” (Y/n) whispered weakly. She felt as if all her blood was sinking to her knees, sinking as fast as their chance of forgiveness down the drain.
Before Sanemi could retaliate, a couple of Oyakata-sama’s children announced the Master’s arrival. (Y/n) was quick to follow Shinobu in a bow, wincing when she heard what could only be Sanemi pounding Tanjirou into the rocks, forcing him to bow.
“Hello everyone,” Oyakata-sama addressed the garden, his voice carried in the warm breeze, “how good it feels to have you all here.”
Sanemi greeted the Master, formally asking for an explanation. If not for the seriousness of the moment, (Y/n) would have rolled her eyes.
“The Kamado siblings have been sanctioned, you see. I request you all respect that.” Oyakata stated simply.
An array of mostly negative objections arose at this ending with Sanemi calling for punishments for Tanjirou, (Y/n), and Giyuu.
The Master stood silently for a moment before asking one of his children to read a letter aloud. A letter from a previous Hashira, detailing Nezuko’s history. The letter also revealing that should Nezuko fail; Urokodaki, Tanjirou, and Giyuu would atone through seppuku.
A few of the Hashira were still willing to speak against such a plan, swearing that it was not a risk worth taking. Once there was a lull in their heated remarks,  Ubuyashiki saw fit to address (Y/n).
“(Y/n), my child.”
(Y/n)’s head jutted up at the sudden call of attention to her presence. “Ye— yes, Master?”
“Why do you think that of the squad that has been built around you, only you are here?” Oyakata-sama asked with an warm smile.
“I would suppose it would be because I should know better than a ragtag group of Mizunoto, Master.” came (Y/n)’s subdued reply.
“I would hope so.” The Master chuckled, causing heat to bloom across (Y/n)’s cheeks. “Why didn’t you kill the demon?”
“I was going to, but she proved herself to me,” (Y/n) began speaking more evenly as she recalled the moment, “I presented her with my blood, my rare blood, and she turned away. I have traveled with the Kamado siblings for weeks and not once had Nezuko hurt anyone. She protects people, she sleeps to replenish energy. Based on everything I have observed, I believe in Nezuko. I believe in Tanjirou.”
“Would you stake your life on this along with the others listed here today?” Oyakata-sama asked.
(Y/n) breathed in, firmly nodding her head. Her eyes meeting Ubuyashiki’s milky blank one’s despite his lack of vision.
“Yes, I would.”
Shinobu’s hold on (Y/n)’s bicep curled. (Y/n) hadn’t realized she had still been holding her down.
“And here we have three, now four, people willing to take responsibility for this demon. What say you, my children?” The Master asked the Hashira warmly.
“Forgive me Master, but this is not a matter of numbers!” Sanemi yelled, “Demons are sick creatures that need to be put down and I’ll prove it to you now!”
Sanemi sliced his arm, much more blood than (Y/n) had conjured with the small cut to her thumb that she had presented to Nezuko. She and Tanjirou watched as the blood dripped to the box, staining the lacquered wood.
“No good doing this in the light.” Obanai said, “it won’t come out unless it’s dark.”
Sanemi dashed to the shaded engawa, enticing Nezuko to come out with another stab at the box.
“No!” Tanjirou yelled, he made to scramble to the engawa, but was quickly subdued by Obanai.
“Stop!” (Y/n) echoed Tanjirou’s sentiments, pulling against Shinobu’s hold. “Why are you being so needlessly cruel?”
Sanemi ignored them, a wicked grin on his face as he watched Nezuko emerge from the box, growling lowly.
“Well then, demon?” He sneered, holding out his arm.
(Y/n) could tell Nezuko was straining against the pull of the marechi blood. With all of the injuries she had sustained working against her as well, it couldn’t be easy for the demon to hold back.
“Nezuko!” Tanjirou wheezed as Obanai was pincering his lung painfully with his elbow.
“Kamado-kun,” Shinobu addressed, “don’t struggle too much while in that hold, your lung might burst.”
Tanjirou only struggled harder, surprising everyone when he broke through his rope restraints and stumbled towards the engawa. Tomioka stopped Obanai from pinning him again.
“Nezuko!” Tanjirou called again.
His voice seemed to finally break through to Nezuko and after a few tense moments, she turned away from Sanemi in disgust.
(Y/n) couldn’t help the relieved smile that overtook her lips.
Once the scene was relayed to the Master, he seemed pleased with the report. He told Tanjirou that although Nezuko had done well to prove herself, they would need to grow even stronger before they could be fully accepted by the others. With that wisdom, he said they were free to go.
(Y/n) startled as Shinobu finally let her go, raising her arm to speak. “If all is well then Oyakata-sama, allow me to provide lodging for them.”
Both (Y/n) and Tanjirou seemed a bit wary of this sudden hospitality, (Y/n) even more so, but if Shinobu noticed or cared she didn’t show it, signaling the Kakushi who had been standing by to gather the injured boy and the demon.
The Kakushi tasked with carrying Nezuko seemed a bit frightened of the little demon kneeling in her box, so naturally (Y/n) rose to carry her instead.
“I’ve got her.” She smiled kindly and reached for the box and secured it shut, but not before giving the demon girl a few well earned head pats that rose Nezuko’s mood greatly.
Another Kakushi picked up Tanjirou then (Y/n) and the two Kakushi quickly made their retreat. That is, until Tanjirou bursted back into the garden asking to headbutt Sanemi.
“Please excuse us!” (Y/n) and the two Kakushi bowed deeply once they got him back under control and sped off twice as fast. (Y/n) and the Kakushi running beside her berated Tanjirou from where he sat on the other Kakushi’s back for such a disrespectful display after being allowed the impossible.
When they reached the Butterfly Estate, (Y/n)’s heart squeezed in her chest. The grounds looked to be near the same as the night she had left. No one was there to greet them at the door, so they went around the gardens and found Kanao standing amongst the butterflies.
“Hi, Kanao.” (Y/n) greeted the younger girl bashfully. Now that they weren’t battling over keeping Nezuko’s head, (Y/n) finally took in how much she had grown in four years.
Kanao stayed silent, a serene smile on her lips as she merely observed the group that had approached her.
“What are you all here for?” A sharp voice called from behind them, causing the Kakushi to jump and spin to quickly explain they were here to put Tanjirou in the infirmary.
“Well then come with me...” Aoi’s words trailed off a bit once her eyes found (Y/n)’s face.
“Hi Aoi,” (Y/n) gave a nervous half wave, “you’ve gotten a bit taller.”
Aoi marched straight up to (Y/n) and berated her with a barrage of small fists pounding painlessly against her chest. “What would you expect after being gone so long!” She sniffed, “Four years without a single letter or visit? We thought you were dead, idiot!”
“(Y/n)-san? Do you know these people?” Tanjirou asked from Gotou’s back.
“Yeah, I uh, sorta used to live here.” (Y/n) replied, allowing Aoi to continue hitting her to her heart’s content.
“‘Sorta used to live here’, you’re family! You have always had a place here! Now come on, I’m sure Kiyo, Sumi, and Naho will have a bone to pick with you as well. And Shinobu-sama!” Aoi’s fist struck especially hard at the thought, “Shinobu-sama is going to have some choice words for you when she gets back I just know it!”
Aoi led them all inside, occasionally throwing a few more jabs into (Y/n)’s side to make sure she was really there. She didn’t admit that was what they were for of course, she played it off more as a punishment for disappearing for so long.
There was screaming coming from the infirmary and (Y/n) would have been worried if she hadn’t recognized the sound almost immediately.
“Zenitsu!” Tanjirou called excitedly.
While Tanjirou and poor Gotou were dealing with the sobbing, snotty boy, Aoi had dragged (Y/n) over to Kiyo who had been tending to Zenitsu only moments before.
“Look who finally decided to come home.” Aoi told the younger girl who looked up, tilting her head. (Y/n) almost thought Kiyo hadn’t recognized her. Being as young as she was, she wouldn’t have blamed her, but then she burst forward and hugged (Y/n) tightly around her waist.
“What’s going on in here? Hm, Aoi-san, Kiyo?”
Naho and Sumi had made their way into the infirmary with a basket of fresh linens and paused at the entryway for a moment before they realized who their friend was hugging and ran over to join her with tears in their eyes.
“(Y/n)-san, where have you been all this time?” Naho whimpered.
“Why didn’t you say anything before you left?” Sumi cried.
“I’m sorry,” (Y/n) knelt down to better hug them all, “I know it’s not enough to make up for anything, but I’m sorry for leaving like that. It wasn’t fair,” she looked up to meet Aoi’s stern blue eyes, “to any of you.”
“Well, make it up to us by sticking around from now on.” Aoi said, crossing her arms. “No more running away.”
“But...” (Y/n) was conflicted. Had Shinobu not told the girls why she had left? (Y/n) mustered up the best smile she could and nodded feebly. “All right.”
“(Y/n)-san, your box is... humming?” Sumi pointed at the wooden box.
“Oh, um, you see... in this box is my friend, Nezuko,” (Y/n) treaded carefully, not wishing to startle the girls too badly if she could help it.
“You have someone in a box?” Aoi barked, “well let them out for goodness sake!”
“It’s a little bright in here...” (Y/n) shifted her vision to where Tanjirou and Zenitsu were talking, catching sight of Inosuke as well. Poor boar boy looked like he’d seen better days. “And I’m not sure that Shinobu-” should she still speak of her so informally? “-would be pleased if I let her out without her blessing.”
“Why wouldn’t Shinobu-sama allow you to let someone out of a box?” Aoi rolled her eyes.
“It’s complicated. I’m sure she’ll want to talk to you all about it once she comes back. Until then, Nezuko will be fine in here.”
The girls, though incredulous, let the subject drop for now. Although, they couldn’t help but eye the box with suspicion. Once Tanjirou was settled in the infirmary, the butterfly girls dragged (Y/n) away to talk about the goings on of the last four years which soon devolved into hounding (Y/n) for her own stories to share, even Kanao had come by to sit and listen.
“...And that’s how I helped the fishing village take care of the demon that was lurking in the sea.”
“Tell us another one, (Y/n)-san!” The youngest girls pleaded, kicking their feet in the air behind them. They had migrated to lay flat on their stomachs as the stories progressed and watched (Y/n) recount her adventures with their heads propped up on their arms with rapt attention.
“I’m afraid that will have to wait for another time, it’s quite late you know.”
Everyone turned to the door to find Shinobu staring down at them. The youngest girls pouted a bit, trying to get a bit more time to stick around, but Shinobu held firm and directed them to their rooms.
“You’ll still be here tomorrow, right? (Y/n)-san?” Sumi asked from the doorway.
“I...” (Y/n) pulled at the sleeve of her uniform and subtly pursed her lips while trying to figure out how to proceed, to her surprise, Shinobu spoke up on her behalf.
“I promise you’ll see her in the morning. Now of to bed. (Y/n) and I have much to discuss.”
The thought of having a prolonged conversation with Shinobu sent shivers through (Y/n)’s spine. Once all the girls were well out of sight, Shinobu redirected her attention to (Y/n).
“Let’s drop off your cargo first,” Shinobu said, motioning to the box sitting beside (Y/n), “I’ve arranged a room and Kamado-kun has been wondering where his... sister, has been.”
“Of course.” (Y/n) stood, shouldering the box.
Apparently the room was rather far. (Y/n) felt as if the silence between them was slowly eating at her until she finally decided to speak. For better or for worse.
“You’ve taken all of this extraordinarily well,” (Y/n) commented, testing the waters.
“Mm, I’d like to hold off on any conversation until we drop off the demon. Use this time to gather any thoughts, if you have them that is.”
(Y/n)’s brow furrowed slightly, eyes narrowed. She was sure that was some kind of dig at her intelligence, but she held her tongue.
They dropped off Nezuko, (Y/n) and Tanjirou bid each other good night, and then (Y/n) was led to an all too familiar space, the lab.
Shinobu motioned for (Y/n) to sit at one of the less cluttered tables while she closed the door firmly behind them. (Y/n) would have been lying if she said she wasn’t even just a tad bit concerned by the setting of this ‘talk’ that was about to unfold. Finally, Shinobu took the stool across from her on the other side of the table. She laced her fingers together, using them to prop up her chin as her endlessly amethyst eyes bore into (Y/n)’s. That ghostly smile seemingly perfected after four years of separation, had (Y/n)’s hands clench into fists under the table.
“So,” Shinobu began, her voice deceptively sweet, “when exactly do you think it was when you completely lost your mind?”
“Excuse me?” (Y/n)’s eye twitched.
“Defending a demon, offering up your own life for a demon to live... how insanely idiotic. I thought you were smarter than that. I suppose it had been.. four years, was it? Four years since you ran off. And I thought that was the most careless thing you could ever do. You really have outdone yourself!”
“Stop,” (Y/n) had heard enough of these little jabs and she new well enough Shinobu could go all day as long as she hadn’t changed too drastically in their time apart. However, Shinobu powered through.
“Everyone was devastated when you left you know. We were a family and you just up and left in the middle of the night without a word so soon after—“ After Kanae, “Now you’re putting everything on the line for some demon? You’re a coward. A selfish coward.”
(Y/n) was really angry now. She stood up so fast her stool clattered to the ground behind her. She slammed her hands against the table and stared furiously into Shinobu’s placid expression, though she could detect a hint of a heated spark in those deep purple eyes.
“Don’t act like you’re so innocent in all of this! You told me to leave! You want to judge me for trusting Nezuko with my life, fine! But I only did what you commanded of me when I left. You don’t get to say I just fucked off because you think I didn’t care enough!”
Shinobu had the nerve to chuckle, though no trace of humor was there, as she slowly rose to her own feet and assumed a similar stance over the table as (Y/n).
“Did you really think when I said that, when I told you to leave the lab, I meant I wanted you to walk out of my life?” Shinobu asked seriously.
“I didn’t know what you wanted! You weren’t the same person anymore! Don’t try telling me that it wasn’t what you wanted either, you never came looking for me. You never sent your crow. Tell me you weren’t ecstatic when you woke up that morning and didn’t have to deal with me anymore!”
Shinobu slapped her own hand against the table, a vein pulsed painfully under the skin of her forehead. She opened her mouth to retort, poisoned words ready to lash out with a flick of her tongue, but as luck would have it, a Kakushi nervously called from the other side of the door.
“Kochou-sama, the treatments for the, uh, despiderfication of the slayers from Natagumo Mountain are ready to be carried out with your supervision.”
Shinobu closed her eyes, breathing in deeply before opening them again and looking significantly more drained.
“I see. Please inform the others that I’ll be there in a few moments.”
“Right away, Kochou-sama.”
As the footsteps pattered away, (Y/n) fixed her stool upright before heading in the direction of the door, assuming she and Shinobu were done talking, or screaming rather. (Y/n) was surprised to feel Shinobu grasp her hand as she tried to pass by.
“You remember where your room is, right?” Shinobu asked, the undertones of her voice still taut with anger.
(Y/n) too tired to fight on, responded simply with a mute nod.
“I had the Kakushi clean it earlier today. Everything should still be as you left it.”
Shinobu let go of (Y/n)’s hand and it immediately felt cold. The Hashira opened the lab door and stepped out into the hallway, her back to (Y/n) as she made her last parting statement.
“If you know what is good for you, you won’t step a foot outside of estate grounds without speaking to me first.”
“And if I don’t?” (Y/n) asked just to be obstinate.
“Then I guess I’ll have to hunt you down for sport.” Shinobu quickly replied, turning to face (Y/n) just to show her how serious she was.
(Y/n) couldn’t help the weak guffaw that left her lips. To hear such a threat delivered by such a soothing tone was practically oxymoronic.
Shinobu lingered for a moment longer before gliding off to see to her patients while (Y/n) turned down the opposite end of the hallway and traveled down a few more to find herself standing outside of her old room. She opened the door, the space was clean as Shinobu promised. She closed the door softly behind her, blocking off the light from the hall. There would be time to be sentimental in the morning. Right now, between the Mountain, the trial and the emotional battle with the Insect Hashira herself, (Y/n) was exhausted. She scooted her way into the freshly made futon and fell asleep with the nostalgic smell of wisteria petals drifting through her airways.
***
(Y/n) awoke around mid-morning to the sun shining through her window. She stretched and got dressed, her fingers pausing over the last few buttons of her uniform as she glanced over the desk.
The butterfly hair clip she had once worn with pride sat in front of her. It appeared to be left untouched by time. Not even a speck of dust adorned the colorful wings. She reached out to it, but her fingers curled just before she touched it. She pulled her hand back as a knock sounded on the door.
“Yes?”
“It’s Aoi.” A voice called from the other side.
(Y/n) quickly took the last few steps needed to reach the door and slid it open to greet Aoi but before she could, the stern girl stepped inside and pulled the door shut again.
“Were you and Shinobu-sama fighting last night?” She asked hurriedly.
“Where did you hear that?” (Y/n) answered the question with one of her own.
“The Kakushi are partial to gossip. Now what did you do!” Aoi huffed, jabbing (Y/n)’s shoulder.
“Why does it have to be me? Shinobu was the one who started it!” (Y/n) backed up, rubbing her shoulder.
“You two better make up soon. It will hurt Naho, Sumi and Kiyo if they find out you’re still mad at each other,” Aoi crossed her arms over her chest.
“It’s not that easy, Aoi. It’s been four years. It’s not all going to go away overnight.”
“Do I have to do everything around here?” Aoi grumbled to herself, passing a hand over her face. “I’ll help you, but you better try to be civil.”
“Aoi, I don’t need help. I’m sorry that fight got back to you. If Shinobu and I talk again, I promise I’ll try harder to keep my temper in check, okay?”
Aoi sighed and shook her head, “Fine. That wasn’t what I had come to talk to you about anyway.”
“Oh,” (Y/n) tilted her head, “then what is it?”
“Your friends,” Aoi pinched the bridge of her nose, “they’re driving me crazy. I need you to get the blonde and the boar to participate in recovery training.”
“I’ll see what I can do.” (Y/n) answered with slight reluctance. She knew just how difficult those two could be.
Aoi and (Y/n) arrived at the room that was being used for the boys’ recovery training. Tanjirou was already working hard, trying to catch Kanao in a game of tag, while Zenitsu and Inosuke watched from the corner with bitter disinterest.
“Hey,” (Y/n) addressed the younger teens, “what’s the problem? Don’t you guys want to get better? Stronger?”
“It’s pointless.” Inosuke weakly answered.
“(Y/n)-san, this training is too difficult!” Zenitsu cried.
(Y/n) dodged the weepy blonde’s attempts at hugging her and bonked him on the head with the side of her fist.
“I feel no sympathy for you. Aoi and the others are working really hard to get you back in fighting shape, the least you could do is put a little bit of effort in!” (Y/n) crossed her arms, “before you know it, Tanjirou will leave you both in the dust. Do you really want that?”
Zenitsu and Inosuke grunted, still refusing to budge. (Y/n) motioned for Naho to hand her a cup of medicated water and promptly splashed its contents all over the boys.
“What was that for?” Zenitsu screeched.
“Want revenge? Come take me on.” (Y/n) motioned to the table of cups.
Naho, Sumi and Kiyo made small sounds of excitement, trying to encourage the boys, but they just grumbled and walked back to the infirmary.
“You guys are going to regret walking away!” (Y/n) called after them. “Let me know when you are done moping and want to get back to work!”
“Oh my.” Shinobu giggled as she walked in, watching Zenitsu and Inosuke sulk past her.
Shinobu turned to observe the room, pausing at (Y/n). Her eyes flickered down at (Y/n)’s chest and stayed there long enough for the other slayer to notice.
“What?” (Y/n) had grumbled mostly to herself as she followed Shinobu’s gaze downward. Heat shot to her face immediately as she realized she had forgotten to finish buttoning her uniform after Aoi distracted her. It wasn’t showing a lot, just her collar bones and a bit of her chest, but it was still jarring. With a strangled chirp, she quickly buttoned her uniform the rest of the way.
“Oh please, no need to cover up on my account.” Shinobu easily teased, though she felt a bit embarrassed to have been caught staring. She wasn’t entirely sure why her vision gravitated there to begin with.
After a few false starts, (Y/n) finally choked out, “what do you want?”
“I need Kanao and Aoi to help me gather more herbs for spider demon antidotes, not that it’s any of your business.”
“Kochou-sama,” Aoi interjected before (Y/n) could retaliate, “Kanao and I are helping Tanjirou complete his recovery training for the day. I’ve asked (Y/n)-san to fill in for us and she has readily agreed to take our place.”
(Y/n) gave Aoi a look, prompting the younger girl to pinch at (Y/n)’s side discreetly. A message to keep her mouth shut. Kanao simply blinked, twisting on the ball of her foot to dodge another one of Tanjirou’s lunges.
“Very well then, keep up (Y/n). I hope you still remember a thing or two about plants in that thick skull of yours,” Shinobu glided past (Y/n) to step out onto the engawa, “though I wouldn’t be too surprised if all of that knowledge fell out of your head along with your common sense.”
(Y/n) opened her mouth before shutting it firmly closed. Remembering that the younger girls were there and what Aoi had asked of her, she pursed her lips and silently fell into step beside the Hashira, walking with her to the nearby forest where the herbs they needed flourished.
“You recall what Aralia Cordata looks like, correct?” Shinobu asked once they were well within the trees.
“Yeah, kind of hard to miss that shrub if you know what you’re looking for.” (Y/n) groused.
“Fine, fine. Don’t come crying to me if you touch something poisonous.”
“I won’t. Won’t touch anything poisonous I mean. Because I know what I’m doing.”
“Are you telling me that or are you just trying to reassure yourself?”
(Y/n) chose not to reply, instead she split off from Shinobu to one of the shrubs in question and began harvesting a few leafy tendrils from it. Before long, her basket was filled and she turned just in time to see Shinobu turn back to her own bush, pretending to examine one of the tendrils she had cut.
“You know,” (Y/n) sighed as she stood back to her full height, “Aoi only made me come here in her stead because that fight we had last night got back to her. She expects us to make up.”
“Mm, I figured it was something like that,” Shinobu hummed, “I do believe that for once, she is too optimistic in that regard.”
“Well, you never did like admitting when you were wrong,” (Y/n) shrugged, “or saying you’re sorry. It’s comforting to know you haven’t completely destroyed your old personality.”
“And what exactly have I been wrong about, (Y/n)?” Shinobu’s forehead pulsed, “what exactly have I done that requires an apology?”
“You lie to everyone Shinobu. You hide behind plastic smiles pretending to be someone you’re not to fill a void. Saying your fine and shrugging everyone off while holding them at arm's length. When I tried to talk to you, you pushed me away and told me to leave. You were dismissive, cold.”
(Y/n) wrapped her arms around herself as if a chilling wind overcame her. Continuing on, she spoke lowly before Shinobu could speak her denial.
“Not to say that I don’t have my own fault in all of this. Even if I thought you really wanted me gone that night, I should have fought harder for you. I knew you were hurting, but I gave up and left anyway. That is something I’ve thought about a lot in our time apart and I regret it every day because you were worth fighting for.”
(Y/n) blew out a harsh breath of air, running a hand over her scalp she made her closing statement.
“If there was one thing you were right about last night, it’s that I’m a coward and I’m sorry that I didn’t try harder.”
(Y/n) chanced a look at Shinobu’s face. The Hashira’s eyes rounded and her mouth was ever so slightly agape. The silence hung in the air until a sweet wisteria breeze swept through the trees and (Y/n) cleared her throat and looked away.
“So if we could at least pretend to get along for the sake of the girls, I think Aoi would appreciate it.” (Y/n) added before reaching down to collect her basket. A sudden noise, like air being rapidly released through one’s nose, came from behind (Y/n) and she paused in her movements to glance back at Shinobu who was looking down at the leaf she was worrying between her fingers.
“I... apologize, for pushing you away in such a way that made you think you had to exile yourself. It was also cruel of me to say you didn’t care about us when I knew that you thought of this place as your home. I was trying to hurt you back and that was wrong of me. I’m sorry.” Shinobu solemnly said.
Now it was (Y/n)’s turn to stare. Soon, Shinobu leveled a cocky smile and stood with her basket of leaves and a few other miscellaneous plants she gathered.
“Looks like you were wrong about my ability to apologize, hm?” She said.
“Shut up. Don’t ruin the moment.” (Y/n) smiled, reaching for her own basket.
The atmosphere surrounding the girls leaving the forest felt a lot more relaxed than it had upon entering.
***
Days turned into weeks and everything seemed so much better after. It was still awkward at times, but (Y/n) and Shinobu were finding their rhythm again. There was still a little hostility at times, but rather than avoid each other, they talked it out. It was almost frightening how in sync they were when they were working well together.
(Y/n) split her time between helping Shinobu with the slayers turned spiders and helping the younger girls train Tanjirou. She was elated by the boy’s progress as he finally managed to catch Kanao. She had noticed Zenitsu and Inosuke lurking nearby and gestured to the room. Now that they knew recovery training was possible and Tanjirou was leaving them in the dust, the rambunctious boys finally felt the need to catch up with their comrade’s progress.
Before long, the boys were well enough to continue the training on their own and (Y/n) found herself spending more and more time with Shinobu. They would spend hours talking or saying nothing at all, just enjoying each other’s company while they worked away on medicines and poisons.
It didn’t take long for (Y/n) to notice the difference. How Shinobu took up more than her fair share of space in (Y/n)’s thoughts. Even just catching sight of her across the garden was starting to make (Y/n)’s heart leap. On the occasion Shinobu would spot her she’d smile and wave, making (Y/n)’s heart stop all together before kicking into overdrive. The lingering touches and whispered words Shinobu would share with her as they worked in the lab certainly didn’t help either. Just when (Y/n) had thought they finally found their dynamic... Why was it changing again already?
(Y/n) was telling Naho, Sumi and Kiyo the story of how she met Tanjirou and Nezuko while she patted the demon’s head. Ever since Nezuko had woken up, the younger girls, though skittish at first, had grown to be fascinated and even enamored with her. As (Y/n) retold the tale, Nezuko humming happily at her side, Shinobu happened upon the group.
“I’m afraid we’ll have to cut this session short. Tanjirou and the others are ready to get back out on the road now. Something about joining Rengoku-san on his next mission.”
“How did I not here about this plan sooner?” (Y/n) frowned.
“That’s a question best suited for Tanjirou to answer I suppose.” Shinobu replied rather emotionlessly, concerning (Y/n).
So while everyone else was getting ready to leave, (Y/n) pulled Tanjirou aside and asked him what was going on.
“I didn’t tell you we were leaving because I hope you’ll stay and continue to rebuild the relationships you have here, (Y/n)-san. I appreciate everything you’ve done for Nezuko and I, and now I hope to return the favor.” Tanjirou smiled brightly.
“And how do you figure you’re doing that?” (Y/n) crossed her arms.
“Because the longer you get to stay here, the more time you get to spend with Shinobu-san! I can smell that you two want to be together more now than ever.”
“You and your nose I swear,” heat radiated off of (Y/n)’s cheeks, “I think you have intuition and that sense mixed up.”
Tanjirou merely laughed in response.
“So, you guys think you’ll really be okay without me? You’ll stay out of trouble?”
“Don’t worry, (Y/n)-san! We’ll see each other again soon!” Tanjirou beamed.
(Y/n) smiled in return and they rejoined the send off.
“Where did Shinobu-san go?” Tanjirou wondered.
(Y/n) looked around and sure enough, the Pillar was nowhere to be seen.
“She must have had something urgent to attend to,” she answered, making a note to search for her later.
(Y/n) stood out in the garden until the loud group disappeared into the trees and their shouts could no longer be heard over the rustling of the leaves. She took a moment to stare out into the clear blue sky before returning inside.
(Y/n) was going to go look for Shinobu, but she wanted to go to her room to change her uniform first since Zenitsu had snotted all over it in his tearful goodbye.
She opened the door and was surprised to find Shinobu already inside. Shinobu’s back was turned to her as she quickly ran a sleeve over her face. She cleared her throat before facing back with a weak smile.
“(Y/n), forget something?”
“Huh?” (Y/n) blinked, still trying to process why Shinobu might have just been tearing up in her room of all places.
“The others must be ready to leave now. You better pick up what you needed so they don't have to wait too long.”
“They already left, Shinobu.” (Y/n) explained. “I hadn’t planned on going with them.”
“Oh.” Shinobu turned to look outside the window of (Y/n)’s room, hoping the blood that buzzed in her cheeks hadn’t burned its way to her ears as well.
“Shinobu, is something wrong?” (Y/n) tested.
“I just feel a bit silly now I suppose.” Shinobu admitted, bringing a slight smile to (Y/n)’s face with her honesty. “I thought you were gone again.”
“Well, I wouldn’t leave without a proper goodbye, not again.” (Y/n) came up beside Shinobu, intending to give her hand a comforting squeeze when she felt something other than skin instead. Looking down she saw her old butterfly clip in Shinobu’s hand, a quick look at the empty spot at her desk confirmed it.
Shinobu noticed that (Y/n) had noticed and rose the hairclip up between them with a subdued exhale.
“You know, every morning I wonder if it will be the morning you feel comfortable enough to wear this again.” Shinobu said, twirling the insect in her fingers. “When I thought you were gone and I saw this still sitting on your desk, it brought me back to places I’d rather not think about.”
“I’m sorry,” (Y/n) rested her hand over the back of Shinobu’s haori, “I just haven’t felt... I don’t know, worthy of it? I didn’t intend to make you feel bad.”
A small puff of air left Shinobu’s nose at the words. “It isn’t a matter of worth, it’s about whether or not you feel like you belong here again. Whether or not you’re comfortable here.”
“Agree to disagree.” (Y/n) joked. “But if it makes you feel better, I’m glad I get to spend more time here. I’ve been happier in these last few weeks than in the last few years.”
“I’m glad.” Shinobu watched a couple of butterflies flutter against the window before turning back to the garden. “And if you insist on it being a matter of worth, you are more than worthy. It’s not even a question to me.”
“Thank you.” (Y/n) simpered. Her breathing hitched slightly when Shinobu reached up to run her fingers through a loose lock of (Y/n)’s hair.
“Would you let me do your hair?” Shinobu asked softly.
“I’d like that.” (Y/n) whispered.
Shinobu guided (Y/n) back to the desk and sat her down on the chair. She freed (Y/n)’s hair from its plain hair band and quietly ran a brush through her locks with such softness that (Y/n) felt like she might fall asleep. Shinobu gathered the hair in her hands and styled it as she wished, clipping it together with the butterfly hair clip. Shinobu checked over her work, her hands resting on (Y/n)’s shoulders.
“You look perfect.” (Y/n) shivered. She hadn’t expected Shinobu’s lips to be so close to her ear. Neither had she expected the lips to ghost over her cheek in a light kiss.
“I just remembered I have a meeting I need to attend. You’ll help the girls with the infirmary won’t you?”
(Y/n) had almost forgotten how to speak but managed to pull it together. “Of course! I’ll, um, see you when you get back?”
“Perhaps,” Shinobu removed her hands from (Y/n)’s shoulders, “I won’t be back until late though.”
“Okay.”
A shy hug (in slightly awkward positioning due to the gross state of the Kinoe’s uniform, courtesy of Zenitsu) and Shinobu parted ways with (Y/n). (Y/n) met up with the girls in the infirmary and was almost immediately met with a chorus of cheers from Naho, Kiyo and Sumi when they noticed her hair. Aoi and Kanao smiled at the sight as well. A full day of caring for the infirmary made (Y/n) excited to finally get into bed for the night.
She awoke with a scream caught in her throat. Old demons had visited her in her sleep. As she worked to calm her heart, she noticed the light of the full moon streaming through her window. With a few more deep breaths she sat up from her futon and wrapped her haori around her shoulders.
Quietly exiting her room, she padded through the halls until she found her way to the kitchen, a smile pulled at her lips when she found Shinobu already there boiling water.
“Rough night?” Shinobu asked. She was also in her bed wear, her hair hanging loose from its usual style.
“Yes,” (Y/n) moved to stand beside her, “it’s been awhile since the last one I had.”
“How did you deal with that when you were on the road?”
“I would buy little sacks of tea leaves as I went. On bad nights or whenever sleep eluded me I’d boil up some water and try a new blend. Yours was always the best though.”
“I was already going to make you a cup, no need for flattery.”
“No flattery here. Just the truth.” (Y/n) swore, making Shinobu’s smile just a tad fuller.
Shinobu finished preparing the cups and as (Y/n) took hers about ready to leave, the Hashira asked her to wait.
“It’s a full moon tonight. Want to watch the stars for a moment?” Shinobu asked.
“I’d love to.” (Y/n) nodded.
The pair walked outside along the engawa until they had a pleasant view of the full brightness of the moon. They sat along the engawa’s edge, letting their legs dangle as they sipped their tea in the drowning noise of cicada and cricket songs.
(Y/n) chanced a glance at Shinobu in her periphery and marveled at how the moonlight highlighted her skin to the point where she almost appeared to be glowing. The way it reflected off of her eyes was absolutely enchanting. (Y/n) forced her attention back on the sky. Though beautiful it seemed to pale in comparison to the girl next to her.
As her eyes traced over the larger craters of the moon, she thought back on an old saying she had read at one of the inns she had frequented. An old, battered collection of pages that she read through when sleep didn’t come. She had read that particular work quite a few times.
She wondered if perhaps Shinobu had read it too. Though more likely the girl had her face buried in medical texts than anything else. (Y/n) then wondered, if perhaps she could get away with saying it. A confession without consequence, but on the off change that Shinobu was knowledgeable on the old text it could damage the progress they had made in healing their relationship. Perhaps it would be better to just enjoy the moment. (Y/n) took another sip of tea.
“The moon is beautiful, isn’t it?”
(Y/n) nearly choked on her tea, spluttering and coughing as she tried in vein to stop herself. Finally she managed to calm down only to notice how intently Shinobu was staring at her.
Had she meant that literally? Shinobu was looking at (Y/n) so expectantly, but it could easily just be because she had nearly blacked out from inhaling her tea!
“...It is.” (Y/n) finally answered hiding her face in her cup, looking at neither Shinobu nor the moon.
Another long silence filled by the chirps of insects enjoying the humid night air. (Y/n) had finished her tea and set her cup to her right, her free hand that had been resting between Shinobu and herself was soon covered by a cool and calloused touch.
(Y/n) shyly turned her head to meet the Pillar’s gaze and jumped a bit when her nose unexpectedly brushed against Shinobu’s.
“The moon is beautiful tonight, isn’t it?” Shinobu repeated barely above a whisper. She was not pulling away.
(Y/n) felt her throat dry and she wished she had just one more swallow of tea left. With a slight quiver in her lips, she responded. Doing her best to stay focused on the purple irises before her.
“Yes,” she answered with a slight nod, careful not to bump head with Shinobu, “it is.”
“(Y/n)?” Shinobu called to her, cupping her face gently with the hand that wasn’t already resting on top of (Y/n)’s.
“Y.. yes?”
“Would you kiss me if I asked?” Shinobu murmured, filling (Y/n)’s senses with a dizzying wisteria scent. The slayer didn’t even try to talk herself out of answering such a query as the thumb of Shinobu’s hand swiped the corner of her lips.
“Yes.” She replied, nearly breathless already and her pupils blown wide.
“(Y/n), please kiss me.”
It was all too easy to lean in when they were already sitting so closely. The hand Shinobu had been using to cup her cheek weaved through the hair at the back of (Y/n)’s head, pulling her closer yet as their lips met a bit clumsily in buzzing, mind numbing bliss. (Y/n)’s free hand, the one not currently being clutched in a near death grip over the wooden floor, found home at the back of Shinobu’s neck, lightly massaging the skin there.
They broke apart a few times but the breaths they took were quick and few. Eventually they rested against each other while their abused lungs burned with a hunger for oxygen.
“I have wanted to do that for longer than I’d like to admit.” Shinobu quietly confessed, twisting a lock of (Y/n)’s hair though her fingers.
“Even when we were fighting?” (Y/n) joked, rubbing the back of Shinobu’s neck with her thumb.
“Strangely enough, yes. There were times when I thought about doing it just to shut you up. Though I didn’t dare allow myself to entertain the thought for long.”
(Y/n) chuckled and leaned in to steal another kiss, much less heated then the last few and much quicker as a chorus of surprised gasps made them pull apart and turn around.
“They kissed! They’re kissing!” Sumi cheered while Aoi tried to quiet her and push her back into the mansion.
Sumi and Kiyo emerged from the doorway that Shinobu had left open when she and (Y/n) first came out into the moonlight and were immediately hounding them for confirmation.
“We missed it! Do it again!” Kiyo pleaded.
“It’s like a fairy tale!” Naho cheered.
“You three!” Aoi grumbled with embarrassment. “Kanao, help me out here!”
Kanao looked between Aoi, the rowdy girls, then her sister and senpai, before settling on a nice golf clap of congratulations. This made Aoi lightly smack herself in the face and completely give up on trying to rein in the younger children.
“My, what are you all doing up I wonder?” Shinobu smiled.
“We wanted to watch the moon too Shinobu-sama! Aoi-san even made tea!” Naho clapped.
“But it’s clear you’re, busy, with something and we should go back inside.” Aoi rushed.
“Nonsense, it’s a lovely night. These things are best experienced with those you care about, don’t you all agree?”
“Yes!” Three excited voices readily agreed before wiggling in between the older girls with light blankets and their tea.
Aoi grumbled a half hearted reminder to be careful with the tea before sitting down beside (Y/n) with her own cup. Kanao took a seat beside Shinobu, lightly kicking her feet over the engawa as she started up silently at the moon.
They stayed up for hours, naming constellations, spotting shooting stars, and listening for the occasional loud croak of a far off frog in the thick of the cicadas and crickets.
Dawn wasn’t too far off when Naho, Sumi and Kiyo fell asleep. (Y/n), Shinobu and Kanao each picked one up and returned them to their rooms. Aoi gathered the discarded cups and helped with the doors before bidding the older girls goodnight, Kanao trailing behind her.
“What a lively night. I’m afraid chores will suffer tomorrow.” Shinobu mused as she walked (Y/n) back to her room.
“We’ll figure it out.” (Y/n) said, shyly brushing her hand against Shinobu’s and smiling when Shinobu laced their fingers together.
Once at (Y/n)’s room Shinobu raised (Y/n)’s hand to her lips with a smirk, planting a kiss on battle worn knuckles.
“This is where I leave you. I’ll see you in a few hours.”
“Why does that feel too long?” (Y/n) laughed quietly.
“I’m not sure, you’d think after four years of bitter silence a couple of hours would be a walk in the park.” Shinobu chuckled in return.
“I guess we just have a lot of time to make up for, huh?”
“Mm, that is a plausible line of reasoning,” Shinobu hummed, a spark growing in her eyes, “might I trouble you for one more kiss before I retire to my room?”
“I was hoping you’d ask.”
(Y/n) hardly got the words out before Shinobu was on her. Four kisses later and they pulled away with matching grins.
“I’ll see you in my dreams.” Shinobu added one last peck before pulling away.
“As will I.”
***
Well into the next morning (Y/n) awoke energized and ready to fight the world. She changed into a fresh uniform and pinned her hair with care, straightening the butterfly pin before rushing out of her room to begin her day with the young woman who had gifted it to her.

You started to drift into deep sleep when the sudden blares of the dorm’s fire alarm stirs you awake.
Your groans are muffled in your pillow, frustrated that this is probably another false alarm like usual. With heavy eyes, you rush to grab your phone and keys, stuff your feet into your shoes, and waddle among the crowd of students, departing the building with your blanket over your shoulders as a make-shift jacket.
The moment you reach the front of the building where everyone safely coalesces, you glance at your phone as you tug at the ends of your blanket around your chest. 3:08am glows back at you, along with a couple other notifications. You barely get the chance to check them since the blatant chattering of teeth nearby catches your attention instead.
Your gaze rests on the familiar figure a few steps beside you, rubbing his arms up and down while his legs tremble. Peering around, you realize you’re one of the few who brought more than a jacket for extra warmth during this chill, autumn night. On the other hand, he’s one of the few who hardly had any layers, solely wearing a baggy red t-shirt and a pair of boxers.
His face swivels side to side, searching the crowd, and it dawns on you that it’s none other than your next door neighbour, Mark.
His dorm room was to the left of yours. You’ve only interacted with him in passing, regularly acknowledging each other with casual nods and smiles. His sweet smile never failed to make your heart race and to make the corners of your mouth widen further. You didn’t know much about him, except for the fact he played guitar since you occasionally heard him play late at night.
You always wanted to get to know him, but neither of you shared the same classes nor were you in the same clubs. To make matters worse, the only time you saw one another was when either of you were coming or going.
Perhaps now was the time to finally make a move.
Lifting your blanket off the pavement, you shuffle your way towards him. As you near him, it clicks in your head that you didn’t initially recognize him because, besides the lack of clothes and the slightly messy hair, he’s wearing glasses to boot.
“Hey, neighbour.”
Mark stops his searching and his focus lands on you. The handsome individual steps closer to shorten the space between you, displaying his signature smile. You grip onto your blanket tighter and the weight of your shoulders droop, allowing your face to shyly sink into the sea of fabric covering you.
The shivering man says your name and replies with a cool, “Hey.”
“Do you want to share the blanket with me?”
“Oh, no. It’s okay, I’m all right,” he stammers with a shake of his head, continuing to rub his arms.
You perk an eyebrow and open one of your arms out, offering him the promise of warmth.
Beaming, you say, “There’s enough room for another.”
His mouth twists to one side of his face, the gears in his head obviously turning.
“Are you sure?”
A hum, nod, and a grin answer his uncertainty. Mark swiftly grasps onto the end of the blanket and wraps himself over his shoulder. Although the heat from the front of your body flees due to the partial sacrifice of your cover, you’re now having an extra source of heat from being right next to Mark, touching shoulder to shoulder.
“Thanks,” he bobs his head. “I appreciate it. I just bolted out of bed and didn’t think of even bringing a jacket.”
“That’s okay, that’s why you have me,” you joke, swaying and pressing your shoulder lightly against his.
Both of you chuckle softly. There’s something else to add to the list of things that are keeping you warm—the prickling rising from your chest to your cheeks.
You then comment, “I’ve never seen you with glasses before. I almost didn’t recognize you.”
“Ah, yeah, I wear contacts during the day. Depending on stuff, I sometimes wear my glasses, but not as often.”
“Well, I think you look good either way.”
Your eyes practically fall and roll away from your head, cognizant of the words that just escaped your mouth.
“I mean—” You snap your eyes shut for an extended beat, not wanting to see the look on your next door crush’s face. “You know what, let’s just pretend I didn’t say that out loud.”
Exhaling a lengthy sigh, you turn to face the opposite direction, now regretting your offer to share your blanket with him.
Your regret leads you to miss the way his face lights up.
“Hey, no, thanks for the compliment.”
Under the blanket, his fingers gingerly graze over yours for a fleeting moment, which causes you to shift your head towards him again. The tips of your noses are almost touching. His twinkling eyes are locked on you, but yours are veering everywhere else except on him.
“If it makes you feel any better, I think you look good too.”
With that, your gaze finally lands on Mark.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
You want to continue the conversation, you really do, but you’re at a loss of words and are too busy getting lost in the galaxy of his eyes from up-close. From the way he’s not tearing his eyes away either, a little part of you wonders if he harbours an infatuation with you as well. He couldn’t possibly, right?
Despite being practically strangers, the silent, intense aura blooms as time passes. Your respective breaths brush against each other’s lips and it’d be so easy to just lean in to meet the other’s—
Suddenly, the tension is cut short as everyone begins to sluggishly amble their way back into the building.
Although nothing really transpired, you break apart simultaneously like someone caught you two doing something you shouldn’t. Mark lets you have your blanket all to yourself once more and both of you head back side by side in comfortable silence.
After walking up the flight of stairs, trailing behind all the other residents of the building, you finally reach your respective doors.
“It was nice to see you,” you say, pulling your keys out and inserting the fitting one into your lock.
“Yeah, thanks for sharing your blanket with me. I really appreciate it.”
“Anytime, neighbour,” you glance up at him from your hand. His whole body faces you and his mouth is agape like he’s itching to say something. On second thought, he presses his lips together and feels around his body for his keys. Realization hits him in the face.
“Shit,” he bangs his forehead against the door, deterring you from entering your home abode. “I forgot my keys inside.”
Mark turns to you with a scrunched face. Even in a state of frustration, how could someone be so cute? “Sorry to ask, but can I borrow your phone?”
“Oh, yeah. Of course.” You don’t hesitate to scramble and hand it over to him.
He mumbles a quick thanks, rubbing the back of his head. When he finishes entering a number to dial-in, he holds the phone against his ear and leans the side of head against his door, still facing you. You stand there awkwardly, eyes wavering between the adorable phone borrower and the handful of people in the hallway trickling back into their dorms.
After the third unanswered ring, a bold offer impulsively escapes your lips.
“You know, you can stay at my place overnight if you need to.”
Oh, no. Shit. Why brain, why?
You don’t register your brazenness until the fifth ring, when Mark’s jaw is hanging and his eyebrows are glued to the ceiling. Okay, maybe you can save the moment by saying it was a joke or—
“Hello?” you overhear a muffled grumble on the other end.
The shock dissolves away from his face. “Oh, hey. Sorry to wake you, Johnny. It’s Mark…”
Utter embarrassment. This time, you can’t save yourself from your impetuous words. Millions of possibilities run through your mind, including abandoning your phone for him to keep and then moving to another building. No, moving to another college. Actually, Mars sounds like an even better idea.
You’re so deep in your overdramatic thoughts, your face in a pinch behind your blanket, that you don’t even realize Mark’s already done with his call.
“Thanks.” His voice breaks you away from your thoughts, eyelids shooting open. He must’ve stepped closer while you weren’t looking because he’s now in front of you, dangling your device from his fingertips. You gently grasp the phone, jointly holding it with him.
“And about your offer…” You cringe, ready for him to ignore your existence until the end of time. You officially ruined everything, and nothing has even happened yet.
“How about we go on a date first?”
Your head shoots up at his proposition. Did you hear that right?
“Then, maybe when the fire alarm goes off again next time and I forget my keys, I’ll take you up on it.”
It could be because it’s almost 4am and you’re teetering on sleep, or you’re purely stricken, but all you could do is nod mindlessly and squeak, “Sure.”
A heartstopping smile rolls over his face. “I was hoping you’d say that. I took the liberty of adding myself to your contacts and sent a text to my phone.”
Mark releases your phone from his grip and begins to walk backwards towards the stairs, suppressing his desire to stay with you for a little while more. But, it’s late and it’s not like this was the last time he’d see you. You are neighbours after all.
Waving, he whisper-shouts in the hallway, “I’ll text you back first thing when I can. Have a good night!”
You subtly wave back, still huddling your blanket over your shoulders. When he disappears from your line of sight, you enter your room and flop onto your bed with a jubilant sigh.
Tumblr media
Following knocks at his door, a slit-eyed Johnny is welcomed by a vivacious friend. Too vivacious for 4am.
“Dude, you won’t believe what just happened. Remember that cute neighbour I’ve been telling you about?...”
Tumblr media
Maybe (and thankfully) there wasn’t an actual fire, but another one was certainly beginning to kindle.
And neither of you had the intention of extinguishing it any time soon.

Little Whore (DabiHawks Smut)
Warnings: Slave!Reader, blowjob, spanking, squirting, spitting, degradation, overstimulation  double penetration, master (dabi) and daddy (hawks) kink, aftercare
Tumblr media
Nsfw under the cut. God, I love these two.
Dabi walked along the halls of Hawks’ apartment to where you stayed in your cage. When he heard that Hawks had a sex slave, he wanted to find out himself. He opened the door to the basement and there you were, huddled up in your cage in the corner while naked.
“You ready to play, little whore?” he teased while kneeling down to your cage. You nodded like the obedient slave that him and Hawks had trained. Dabi opened your cage and you crawled out, stretching your limbs. You sat on your knees looking up at your master.
“You know what to do.” he said. You unbuttoned and unzipped his pants just the way he liked it. You took out his cock and waited for permission to suck on it.
“Go ahead.” You took his cock in your mouth and sucked on it while looking up at him.
“Aww, you guys are starting without me?” There at the doorway was Keigo. He walked over to you and Dabi and watched as you sucked on his cock like a needy whore. He pulled down his pants and stroke his cock.
“It’s your fault for not getting here sooner. And since I got here first, I get to play with her cunt first.” Dabi’s harsh words made your cunt clench. You felt your wetness dripping out of you but you know not to touch yourself without permission.
“God, she’s such a good little whore. Just look at the way she’s sucking my cock. You love sucking cock huh?” You nodded the best you could and kept sucking his cock. You really wanted to breathe, but you knew better than do disobey your master and your daddy. Dabi pushed your head further till your nose was touching his crotch and you gagged. God, that was so hot.
“Aww, does the whore wanna breathe?” Keigo teased. He could tell by the way your eyes looked that you wanted to breathe. Dabi pulled out of your mouth and let you breathe in the air you desperately needed. Keigo grabbed your hair and pulled you towards his cock. You took his cock and sucked it like you did with Dabi. With your hair still in his hand, Keigo started to face-fuck you.
“That’s not fair, bird-brain. Let me face-fuck her.” Dabi growled.
“No way, bacon bitch. It’s my turn.” Keigo groaned. Dabi grabbed your hand and put in on his cock. You stroked your master’s cock while sucking on your daddy’s cock. Keigo pulled out and you gasped for air again. Kiego grabbed your chin and made you look up at him.
“Be a good little whore and go wait in the bedroom. And grab your favorite toys.”
“Yes, daddy.” you moaned. You stood up and ran to the bedroom while grabbing your favorite vibrator, dildo, gag, restraints, and flogger. You laid them out neatly on the bed and sat on your knees again in front of the bed. Dabi and Keigo walked in with their cocks still out and a collar with a leash in Keigo’s hand.
“Wow. Such a good whore. Just like we trained you to be.” Dabi said.
“Thank you, master.” you said. Dabi put on the collar and sat down on the edge of the bed. You climbed up and laid over his lap with your hands behind your back. Dabi grabbed the wrist restraints and put them on you. He grabbed the dildo and rubbed it against your pussy. You moaned softly but Keigo spanked you.
“Did we say you can moan?” he growled.
“N-no daddy.” you whimpered.
“Put the gag on her. She still needs to learn to not make a sound till we say so.” Dabi said. Keigo grabbed the gag and put it on you. Dabi continued to rub the dildo against your cunt. When he thought that it was wet enough, he put it inside you. You moaned through the gag and got spanked again. Keigo walked over to get a view of your stuffed cunt. Dabi moved the dildo at a ruthless pace. You tried your best not to moan, but it felt so good. You felt your orgasm approach and so did Dabi. Dabi took the dildo away and you squirted onto Keigo’s cock.
“Good girl.” Keigo groaned. Dabi spread your lower lips and spat at your little hole.
“Let’s make you do that again, whore.” Dabi put it back in and moved it at the same pace as before. You moaned again through the gag and felt your orgasm approach again. He pulled the dildo out and you squirted even harder this time. Dabi pulled you off of his lap and removed the gag.
“You ready to have your cunt stuffed by the both of us?” he asked.
“Y-yes master.” Dabi laid on the bed and put you on his lap while Keigo went behind you. The both of them lined the cocks up against your tight hole and pushed in. You threw your head back and made an ahegao face. Keigo grabbed the leash and pulled you close to him.
“You liked being fucked like this, huh? Taking both of our cocks and being fucked stupid?” he moaned in your ear.
“Uh-huh. Love it s’much. Feels s’good.” you moaned. Keigo took the flogger and spanked it against your ass. You screamed in pain and pleasure and felt your orgasm coming again.
“You gonna cum, whore? Gonna squirt for us?” Dabi growled. You nodded, no longer able to form words. Dabi rubbed his fingers against your cunt and you squirted on his chest.
“Oh fuck. Good girl.” he moaned. They pulled out and made you lay your back. Keigo grabbed the vibrator, turned it on to the highest setting and put it on your clit. You squealed and tried to arch away.
“S’too much! Can’t take it. Fuuu~kuuu~” you babbled. Dabi put the gag back in your mouth and put his fingers in you. You moaned loudly and arched your back.
“Fuckin’ take it, whore. Take it like the whore you are.” Keigo said. They kept torturing your little cunt till you squirted for the last time. They pulled you off the bed, took the gag out and started stroking their cocks. You opened your mouth and rolled out your tongue, wanting their cum. Keigo felt his orgasm first and came on your face. Dabi came second and rubbed it on your face.
“What do your say, whore?” Keigo asked.
“T-thank you for cumming on my face.” you said, still fucked out. They smiled and helped you clean up. Once you were cleaned up and your toys were put away, the three of you cuddled up and watched some movies. You fell asleep in their arms and they fell asleep too after turning off the T.V.
“Goodnight, bird-brain.” Dabi said.
“Goodnight, bacon-bitch.” Keigo said. The both of them smiled and whispered to you.
“Goodnight, baby.”

It was always an itching urge within Rintarou’s heart. He wanted to find the perfect girl, so kind and innocent, and ruin everything she thought she knew about herself. He wanted to see her shaking and crying because of his fingers, his dick. Rintarou wanted to break down a girl until she was completely pliable and at his mercy.
It was fucked up, he could even admit it. He knew that it was a twisted thought inside his pretty head. But the thought of corrupting someone so perfect made his whole body go tingly.
Rintarou had no luck for the first couple of years he was in college. All of the girls he had the displeasure of meeting were whores and sluts in his mind, all-knowing how to suck dick and roll their bodies on top of his. He was starting to get tired of all of their experience.
Rintarou began to give up on his twisted perversion.
Then he laid his eyes on you.
So cute, huddled in the corner of the frat party, hands gripping at the bottom of your tiny skirt. Your pretty eyes were darting back and forth as people walked by you. Suna gave a small chuckle, hands gripping his red cup in excitement. He could see it in your eyes.
You were finally something he could corrupt.
Tumblr media
“You new to these things? I live in this frat house so this is an everyday thing for me,” You jump when you feel the hot breath of a stranger tickle your neck. He had snuck up on you, “What’s your name?”
You nod your head as you stutter out a response, “Y-yeah... I’ve never been to a party before and my friend ditched me,” You lick your lips as you finally lay your eyes on the guy beside you. He was pretty with black hair framing his face, smoky eyeliner lining his lids, and rings adorning his long fingers, “My name is Y/N. You?”
He chuckles, “Suna Rintarou. You can call me Rin,” He leans down closer to your ear, “What a crappy friend you have, leaving a little lamb like you all alone. Wanna hang out together?”
“Yeah,” You feel a smile creeping up on your face, happy someone was at least talking to you, “We can hang out.”
Your newfound friend offers a hand to you and you look at him inquisitively, “Let’s go up to my room so we can get to know each other... Y/N.”
You weren’t sure if this was the best of ideas but it was better than waiting around for your friend to stop making out with random guys. At least with this, you wouldn’t look like a loser, out of place. So, naturally, you took Rintarou’s slender hand and let him lead you up to his room.
His room was standard, with dark red walls with random piles of clothes scattered on the floor and a couple of movie posters lining his walls. His bed was neatly made while his desk was scattered with textbooks and pens. It was just a normal room, for some reason that consoled your worrying heart a bit.
“What do you major in?” You find yourself asking the most common question in college. Rintarou grabs a textbook and hands it to you.
“Psychology.”
Your eyebrows raise in shock, “I wouldn’t take you for a psychology major,” It immediately sounded bad as soon as you heard it. Your head shoots up to look at the amused man as panic sets in, “I-I didn’t mean it like that! I’m so sorry-”
His hands land on your angular shoulders, instantly shutting you up, “It’s okay, baby girl,” The nickname makes you shudder in his hands while a sadistic smile creeps on his face, “But, how will you make it up to me? You kinda offended me when you said that...” His voice was slow and low making a small blush appear on your face.
You swallow, “I’ll do a-anything,” Rintarou bites his lip, “I’m sorry, Rin.”
“Anything?”
“Anything.” You respond.
Tumblr media
It wasn’t a surprise that you found yourself laying down on his bed with his fingers buried deep inside your cunt, pressing new spots and making you feel like you never have before. Your shirt was lifted up just above your breasts with your bra pushed up as well. The sight was making Rintarou’s mouth water. Your face was so adorable, flushed, and starting to break out a sweat.
“Stop tensing,” His hands slap at your thigh, causing your hips to jump, “And stop this stupid jumping shit. Stay fucking still.” He grabs your hips roughly, pinning them to the bed, much to your demise. You couldn't meet the thrust of his fingers like that.
You let out a harsh groan when his fingers prod at that certain spot that makes you see stars, “C-can’t, hng, help it... feel so good.” Rintarou had you right where he wanted you. You were starting to pant like a bitch in heat and the words you were mumbling made no sense to his sane ears.
He was starting to get you fucked out and you hadn't even cummed yet. Rintarou continued pushing his long fingers in your gummy walls. The way you were writhing around just because of his fingers almost made him want to laugh.
This was perfect.
“Rin,” You let out a particularly hard moan while your hand slaps down on his shoulder, grip making him wince, “Gonna... gonna cum. Please, please, let me cum.” Your hips were shuddering as he continued his assault on your walls. Eyes rolled up in your skull, hair plastered to your forehead, and your whole body shaking with pleasure. Rintarou had never seen such a pretty sight.
“Cum for me, baby girl.”
Those simple words had you allowing yourself to fully let go of the pent-up feeling in your stomach. All of your hearing went as white-hot pleasure spread through your body. Your muscles hurt from tensing up so much but you couldn’t help but to tense more, milking as much pleasure from this experience as you possibly could.
You look down to see Rin with a satisfied smile gracing his lips. You can’t help but smile at the sight, chest filling with warmth.
The bed sinks down when he crawls on top of you, kissing your forehead and brushing your hair off your face, “Think you can handle the real thing now?”
A panic replaces all of the warm feelings you had before. You were scared. Scared it was going to hurt, that he would be too fast or rough with you. He begins to take off his boxers, stroking his length a couple of times with a lazy grin on his face.
When the tip prods at your sopping hole, your hand shoots down to grab at his wrist, "Rin," He looks at you with an eyebrow quirked, "I've n-never done this before-"
He leans down and kisses your cheek sweetly, "Don't worry, that's perfect," His eyes narrow like you're some kind of prey, "I'll go nice and slow." His strong arms cradle your head, pushing it into his chest so you couldn't see what he was doing.
What you couldn't see, wouldn't hurt you, right?
The painful stretch as his cock slowly gliding in had your legs kicking out, a shriek leaving your lips. The burning feeling was too much. He was ripping you apart, about to pierce your stomach if he didn't stop. Rintarou shushes you, stroking your hair as if he was consoling you. His hips settle against yours and you can let out a sigh of relief now that he doesn't have to slide in anymore.
"Hurts..." You mutter against his chest. Rintarou continues to stroke your hair before looking at you.
"It will feel good soon, baby," He lets go of your head, letting you lay down and face him again, "Let me take the lead."
His pace at first was so agonizingly slow, your head spinning with the pain that you were feeling. You didn't even know your lower half could feel this much burning and stretching. After the seventh or eighth stroke, it was like a veil was lifted up. You began to see stars, body relaxing and tensing all at the same time at the wonderful feeling of him filling you full of his cock.
Rintarou took your blissed face as a sign to finally go faster.
Rintarou began to slam his hips into you causing you to stutter out a couple of dumb-sounding moans. The feeling of him was too much. It was causing your legs to seize up and your body began to ache.
"Too fast!" Your legs try to close but he pries them open and slams them against the bed.
He glares down at you, "Take it," The sounds of his hips slamming against yours made your brain go hazy, "Fucking take it. Shit, so fucking good."
When your eyes go bleary and begin to cross, that's when he chuckles. You looked like the perfect little fuck doll.
"Feels so good, Rin! So, so good," Your breasts jiggle with the movements of his hips, "God, I'm gon' cum again."
You have never felt such bliss before. It opened so many doors you didn't even know were possible. A couple of slams of his hips against yours had you finally releasing once again. It was better than the last, maybe because of how full you were. Your body was tensing and clenching around Rintarou. A warm feeling began to coat your walls. You pry your eyes open to see Rintarou hunched over with a face full of pleasure.
He collapses on top of you after a couple of minutes inside of you.
Your brain felt foggy but your body felt so good. It was the perfect combination in your head. Your eyelids begin to droop with the exhaustion of it all and you let yourself take a short nap.
Tumblr media
You were awoken with a harsh shake to your shoulder. You blink a couple of times, trying to adjust to the light.
"Y-yeah," You sit up, pain jolting through your body.  Rintarou was standing in front of you with a lit cigarette hanging halfway out of his mouth.
He sighed, looking annoyed at your cluelessness, "I usually never let girls sleep after I fuck them, consider yourself lucky. But," He hands you your shirt and skirt, "I'm gonna need you to leave. Class in the morning, you know."
You furrow your eyebrows at the sudden shift in his tone, "But, I thought-"
He cuts you off with a sinister laugh, "Thought you were special because I called you loving names and went slow?"
You felt your chest begin to cave in on itself. This wasn't happening, was it? He was just playing some sort of cruel joke on you.
"Rin-"
"Fuck," He rolls his eyes, "Don't call me fucking Rin, okay? Call me Rintarou. I just wanted you to feel like you could trust me."
Tears prickle at your eyes as his words begin to register to you, "So this was all... a joke? A prank on me or something?"
He clicks his tongue, taking a puff out of his cigarette and flicking ash in his tray, "Don't take it so personally, sweetheart," He sits on his bed, hand going to caress your knee in mock comfort, "I have this kink. I wanted to corrupt someone."
You shake your head, "I don't understand."
"How could I pass someone like you up? You looked so innocent when I first laid my eyes on you," He smiles at the memory, "You were the perfect person to corrupt. So I did it, and now I need you to leave my house."
It was like your whole world had crumbled in front of you. It was a stupid thought in your head, but you thought maybe he just wanted to take care of you, make you feel better after slipping up and offending him.
You felt so stupid.
Leaving his room was as humiliating as finding out he didn't really care for you. You felt his slimy eyes on you as you redressed, all the way up until you shut the door to his room.
Standing out in the hallway of his frat house you didn't know what to do with yourself. You felt nothing short of crushed and heartbroken.
Tumblr media
Rintarou laid against his bedframe, basking in the silence. His cigarette was filling his chest with warmth. He couldn't help but begin to laugh like a crazy man at what he just pulled off.
Corrupting was more thrilling than he thought. He wanted more.
The look on your face had a sinister emotion creeping into his brain. He wanted to do this more.
But for now, he will continue to think back on this night with a victorious outlook.
Rintarou had successfully corrupted someone and crushed their heart.

speed racer pt.2 - eren jaeger
Tumblr media
pairing: eren jaeger x fem!reader
word count: 4.3 k
content warnings: 18+, smut, car sex, possessiveness, choking, dangerous driving idk LMAO
notes: it’s my birthday today! my gift to you all is speed racer pt. 2!!!! pt. 1 is not necessary to enjoy this oneshot, but may help with some context. here is that!
SUMMARY: eren takes the reader for a drive where he decides to clear some things up about their relationship in his own special way.
“it’ll be quick; i promise,” eren’s voice brought you from your daydream, head shifting against the cold window to look at him in the driver’s seat. his hair was up, brows furrowed in guilt as he waited for your response.
you let out a dramatic sigh, reaching to unbuckle your seatbelt. “fine, but i’m not going to wait in the car.”
“once it’s over i’ll buy you some food,” he rationed, unbuckling his seatbelt the same. you eyed him suspiciously, waiting for the inevitable sexual innuendo to leave his lips. “n’then i’ll take you back to mine and fuck you, just like you want.”
your unspoken agreement with eren had become routine at this point. after your mutually discovered attraction a couple weeks prior, the two of you had spent many a night in his bed, unashamedly basking in your sexual tension.
the concept of sex buddies hadn’t been one you’d previously dived into, and you would’ve been lying if you’d said you didn’t want to be exclusive. it only made matters worse that eren insisted on doing everything with you at this point, including dragging you to his board meetings for his sponsorship. he was a pain in the ass, but he was a pain in the ass that treated you like his girlfriend.
you wanted to make it official, but were too scared of embarrassing yourself, so you resorted to enjoying things the way they were. frienemies with benefits, as eren would say.
“c’mon, don’t be so vulgar,” you responded, slipping out of the car as eren snickered to himself quietly. you hated the fact that his comments made your face heat up. you were beginning to act like a schoolgirl around him, infatuated by your little crush.
“you know you love it,” eren smirked over the top of the car as he joined you, locking the vehicle. it was dark outside, the stadium brightly illuminated against the navy sky. “what was it you said again? ‘i want this just as much as you do’?”
you scowled, giving his arm a hard shove. he would not let you forget the things you’d said in the heat of the moment. “oh, fuck off.” you snipped.
eren laughed again, jokingly rubbing his arm as the two of you walked up to the stadium. it was around eight, the building being nearly vacant save for the members of eren’s sponsorship board inside.
“what’s the meeting about?” you asked as he held the door open for you, a gush of air conditioning making you shudder.
“if i’m being honest, i don’t know,” eren replied, his eyes settling past you. as you turned your head, you saw a group of exhausted looking men in worn grey suits talking quietly amongst themselves. they stopped whispering at the sound of the door opening; a short, balding man making his way over.
“mr. jaeger, thank you for coming on such short notice,” his voice was thick as he spoke, obviously a smoker. eren reached out to shake his hand, the man’s beady eyes settling on your face as he did so. “i’m sorry, but we won’t be allowing any unauthorized people in this meeting.”
startled, you looked to eren, whose face did all but curse at the short man. “do you mind waiting out here?”
“oh, yeah, no biggie,” you smiled reassuringly. he shot you a look of gratitude, mouthing the words “i’m sorry” as he walked off with the group. it was funny to watch him go; surrounded by serious men in suits while he wore jeans, a sweatshirt, and a pair of sneakers. not to mention he was about a foot taller than the rest of them.
a sigh escaped your lips as they disappeared around the corner. the building was ominous when you were alone; large and vacant, normally filled with people excitedly bustling to watch a race. without the energy, it was downright creepy.
you decided to stand against the wall while you waited, anxiously toying with the hem of your skirt and counting the number of fluorescent bulbs that flickered in the ceiling.
the distant rumble of talking suddenly hit your ears, head snapping in the direction of the sound. it was getting louder, obviously two people approaching. you readied yourself to launch into an explanation as to why you were sitting alone in the stadium, after hours, only to be pleasantly surprised at who rounded the corner.
“yo, what’re you doing here?” connie cried out in excitement, a smile splitting across his face. he was with jean, the two of them spattered with engine oil and dirt.
you grinned back, pushing yourself off the wall to meet them halfway. “eren had a sponsorship meeting and dragged me along. what about you guys?”
jean smirked at your response, sharing a look with connie that went unnoticed by you. “well, connie accidentally told the boss that we don’t know jack-shit about car mechanics, so now we have to go to a stupid workshop five days a week.”
“hey, it’s not my fault he was eavesdropping on our conversation with armin,” connie retorted, coming to stand beside you. you smiled at your friends, happy they were there. “we’ll wait with you, if you want?” he proposed.
“that’d be great,” you sighed. “eren said they’re usually only like thirty minutes long, so we won’t be here all night.”
“about that,” jean started, uncomfortably bringing a hand up to scratch the back of his neck. you frowned, wondering where he was going with this. “are you and him, like, y’know...”
you paused for a moment, deciding to play dumb. “huh?”
“are you and jaeger-meister dating?” connie interjected, wiggling his brows. despite knowing that this is where the conversation was going, you couldn’t help the wave of embarrassment that washed over you. you shifted uncomfortably in place, looking between your friends.
“i don’t know,” you answered honestly. “i can’t tell if he likes me or not. god, this is so high school.” you muttered.
jean gave you an apologetic smile, opening his mouth to speak before connie decided to give his own advice. “huh? why wouldn’t he like you? you’re a hot piece of ass!”
a laugh escaped your mouth at his idiocy, jean dishing him a scowl. “don’t listen to him. personally, i can’t see why you’d want to date that little shit.”
“yeah, it’s pretty embarrassing,” you replied demurely.
“well, if you like him that much, i say go for it,” connie shrugged. you eyed him warily, waiting for the ‘but’. the three of you stood in silence for a moment longer, considering what to say next.
“do you want my help?” jean asked apprehensively. he looked put-off by something, but you couldn’t tell exactly what. connie gave him an incredulous look.
“sure, i guess,” you responded. in some ways, you felt bad for jean. your friendship had been built off of a mutual distaste of eren, and now that you two were sleeping together, the playful mockery with jean had died down. he motioned his head back towards the wall, indicating that you and connie should follow.
“alright, here’s my plan,” he whispered dramatically. connie nodded his head, the two of you leaning in as if it were some grand escapade. “eren is a dumbass. in fact, i think he still has the brain of an ape.”
you rolled your eyes, suppressing a laugh as connie nodded once again in agreement. “get to the point, he’ll be out here any minute now.”
“alright, alright!” jean held his hands up defensively. “i genuinely don’t think he’s capable of intelligent thought. that being said, i believe the right way to gage his feelings are to activate his instincts.”
“dude, how long have you been planning this?” connie snorted. you couldn’t help but smile at just how funny the two of them were.
“never mind that,” jean shooed him back in annoyance. you raised your brow impatiently. “we need to make him jealous. if my assumptions are correct, it’ll piss him off and then you can tell him that he’s the only one you’re interested in.”
you pulled back from the huddle, unsure about his grand plan. “i dunno, jean. this sounds kinda stupid, if i’m being honest.”
“oh, c’mon,” jean begged, a devious smile on his features. “this’ll be our last chance to taunt him together.”
connie grinned as you contemplated it. “i think this is a great plan!”
you groaned, the small side of you that liked to make fun of eren starting to grow once again. “okay, fine. how’re we gonna do this?”
“leave that to me,” jean smirked. as if on cue, you could hear the bustle of the sponsorship men coming down the hallway. your tall friend was quick to step behind you, wrapping his arms around your torso and placing his chin on your shoulder, effectively pulling you to his chest. “follow my lead.” he whispered into your ear.
you couldn’t help the heat that rose to your cheeks at the action. jean was respectfully keeping a distance between your ass and his groin, but he was close enough that it wasn’t very obvious.
connie started to babble about a new korean barbecue restaurant that he and sasha were planning on going to, you rocking in jean’s arms to make the sight believable.
your heartbeat was drumming in your chest as eren rounded the corner, his professional smile plastered on his angular face. he was in the middle of talking with the balding man from earlier, eyes fixed on him. jean gave your waist a squeeze in reassurance.
eren’s gaze peeled from the short man, teal eyes landing on you and jean all cozy. it was as if a flip was switched; the professional smile he’d been wearing slid off his features with ease, face hardening.
you held his angry stare for a moment before turning to connie, laughing at whatever had been said, the feeling of jean’s breath against the shell of your ear as he let out a light chuckle. “it’s working.”
you heaved out a deep breath, focusing on connie instead of eren. you could feel his eyes practically burning holes in your head, shifting your neck so that yours fell back on jean’s opposite shoulder.
“alright, that should be it for tonight,” you heard one of the men say, glancing back over to them. you didn’t look for long though, quickly noticing that eren’s stare was intently focused on you and jean.
the men shuffled past the three of you, leaving the building. “hey, jaeger. we ran into y/n as we were leaving.” jean hummed against your shoulder.
you looked back at eren, who was standing in front of you with his eyebrows furrowed. jean must’ve been right, judging by eren’s face.
“we’re leaving.” eren deadpanned, taking a step forward. he wasn’t looking at jean, rather staring directly at you. you could feel a slight amount of guilt creep up your spine, jean sighing exceptionally loud as he pulled away from you.
“do you guys wanna come to the korean barbecue place with us? it’s gonna be real good,” connie asked innocently. eren didn’t look away from you, his jaw clenching.
“no. we’ve got other plans.” he said seriously, reaching forward to grab your hand and tug you the opposite way from the doors.
“woah, eren, you’re going the wrong way,” you huffed in confusion, trying not to trip as he yanked you away from your friends. he continued forward, not looking back.
“uh, bye i guess?” jean yelled. you looked over your shoulder to see the two of them giving you a thumbs up. you dished them an appreciative smile as you rounded the corner.
“eren, where are we going?”
eren stayed silent for a moment, not letting go of your wrist. “for a drive.”
“huh? but your car is in the lot out front?” you mumbled, absolutely dumbfounded. the tall man didn’t respond, large hand still wrapped around your wrist.
it wasn’t until you came to a familiar large door, eren giving it an unnecessarily hard shove. the lights flicked on, revealing ten shiny race cars, all perfectly lined up.
eren let go of your wrist, making his way over to his own car. it was a sleek black with white checker decals, much like the rest of the vehicles in the garage. you’d seen it before, as it was quite literally one of eren’s most prized possessions.
you stood in the doorway, eyeing him warily. “your race car? you never take it out on regular roads.”
eren’s jaw clenched as he unlocked the car, pieces of hair falling in his face. he looked upset, muscular arm propped on the roof and brows laced with annoyance.
he walked around to the other side, opening the passenger door for you. it was strange, seeing him dressed in his regular clothes next to his race car. something about the nonchalance was attractive, teal eyes looking at you expectantly. “c’mon. be a good girl and get in the car.”
at his choice of words you swallowed, inwardly cursing jean for his plan. you knew you were in for it, judging by the fact that eren only referred to you as good girl when he had his most sinful plans in mind. maybe you should’ve just talked to eren about making things official rather than making him jealous, you thought. too late now.
“okay,” you sighed, resolutely deciding to accept whatever fate it was that jean had painted for you. you crossed your arms, slowly approaching eren. you stopped right as you were about to slip into the car, looking up at him through your lashes. he stared down at you, eyes serious.
you slipped into the dark interior of the car without further discussion, the cold leather making you shiver as eren shut the door. you observed him through the windshield as he pressed a button to open the garage before getting in the car himself.
the smell of his cologne filled the car, your teeth nervously nibbling at the skin on the inside of your lip as he turned the vehicle on. you’d never been inside the car before, only seeing it on the track and in the garage when you came to pester your friends before a race.
it rode impossibly smooth, eren bringing his hand to the back of your seat as he backed out of the garage. you tried not to stare at the way his arm flexed, jawline enhanced as he strained his neck, but you couldn’t help yourself. he was just so hot.
eren must’ve felt your eyes, glancing down at you momentarily with an expressionless look. you quickly shifted in your seat to stare out the window, heat burning in your cheeks. god, why was this suddenly so awkward?
it was silent as he drove out of the arena, the dark city glittering against the sky. it was beautiful at night, skyscrapers lit up all pretty. you quickly found yourself distracted by the view, leaning your head against the cool glass. you were so consumed that you didn’t notice eren merging onto the freeway.
you were brought out of your trance at the feeling of his large hand resting on your upper thigh, grip tight and possessive. you glanced to him again, lifting your head from the window.
he was staring straight forward, foot slowly increasing the gas. you felt your chest tighten, seeing how he was riding the tail of a minivan in front of you.
“eren,” you warned, insinuating that he slow down. his index finger tapped tauntingly on your bare thigh, slowly rising up the skin. the fabric of your skirt rode up, eren weaving past the minivan with one hand on the wheel.
“i have a question for you,” he said lowly, eyes not leaving the road. you gulped, a strange mix of arousal and anxiety pitting itself in your stomach as his hand reached the apex of your thigh. the side of his pinky brushed against your pelvis. “hm, no underwear?”
you felt a pang of embarrassment. in your defense, you’d thought tonight was just going to be spent hooking up with the man, not going to the arena. “i, uh-”
“so, jean had his dick pressed against your ass and you didn’t have underwear on?” his voice was deep, jealously dripping from every word. your breath hitched as his middle and ring finger slid against your clit with ease, already soaking wet.
eren’s shoe pressed down on the gas again, the car zipping in and out between other vehicles on the freeway. his fingers rubbed against your clit slowly, your legs subconsciously spreading to give him better access. it felt so good, the way he was circling the nerves with desirable pressure.
“mmm, eren slow down, you’re going to crash the car,” you mumbled, watching as he sped up, whipping past the other vehicles. he was easily approaching 100 mph, your anxiety beginning to outweigh the pleasure. as if sensing this, eren sped up his fingers as well, a whimper leaving your mouth.
“i know it’s bad for me to be so jealous,” eren said flatly, his middle finger deviating from the ring finger to slowly insert itself into your tight cunt. he pumped it slowly, still not looking at you. he was pushing 110 at this point, doing so with ease. “but something about jean touching you. being so close to you like that.”
his ring finger joined the middle, the two sliding in and out of you, curling slightly. it was hard to stay focused on his reckless driving when he was fucking you with his fingers like that, your mind feeling fuzzy as a passing car laid on its horn.
“eren,” you breathed out in worry, his fingers hitting your sweet spot in order to make you shut up. “you gotta slo-”
an involuntary whimper left your lips as he curled his fingers particularly deep, the tingling sensation at your core beginning to build. you looked over to him, and boy what a mistake that was.
his one arm was flexed, hand gripping the wheel so tightly his knuckles were turning white. he was entirely focused on the road, eyebrows furrowed intently as his other hand purposefully increased its speed. he was so so hot.
you stifled another moan as your eyes looked forward again, the sight of eren nearly clipping a subaru outback making you sit forward.
“you’re going to crash!” you gasped.
“i’ll slow down if you answer my question,” eren growled, his thumb coming to rub your clit rapidly as his fingers continued to pump in and out of your cunt. you hissed at the newfound pleasure, your head coming back to rest against the seat.
“yes, yes, okay,” you agreed, screwing your eyes shut to avoid looking at how fast he was driving.
eren took a deep breath, giving you a sideways glance. he’d never done this before, but he’d also never felt this way about someone. the way you clenched so good around his fingers making his chest tighten. he made you feel this good, not jean. the thought brought a smirk to his face as you let out a strangled moan.
“i’ll stop speeding if you agree to be my girlfriend,” eren’s words shocked you right out of your pleasure coma, eyes widening as you jolted upright in your seat. did he really just say that? did jean’s plan actually work?
his hand jerked the steering wheel to the side, your mind too preoccupied with his statement to even notice his fingers had stilled inside of you, anxious for your answer. he wasn’t looking at you, eyes still locked on the road.
you held your breath as you noticed how fast your heart was beating. “i thought you’d never ask.” you responded, cheeks burning.
eren’s lips curled upwards, pulling his fingers from inside of you. your eyes followed his long digits as he popped the middle two into his mouth, sucking your bitter sheen from his knuckles. he was your boyfriend. he wanted you to be his girlfriend. “good girl.” he mumbled.
you glanced back at the freeway, surprised as eren jerked the steering wheel, making an abrupt exit. it appeared to deviate into the woods, your eyes flitting nervously to the man beside you. “um, where are you taking me?”
“i’m just fulfilling my promise,” he answered, bringing his hand back to grip your thigh. his fingers were wet with his saliva, the sight bringing a strong throb to your core. oh yeah, i never finished. “’member? i said once we were done with my meeting i was going to fuck you.”
you suppressed an excited smile at his vulgar words, pressing your thighs together for some form of relief. you were painfully aroused, the burning sensation almost too much to bear.
“plus, it seems like you never learn,” eren’s words were suddenly serious as he pulled the car up a gravel road. there was a sharp drop off to the side, the city skyline sparkling in the distance. you cocked a brow at him. “you’re my girlfriend now, but i’m still pissed about that stunt you pulled with jean. gonna have to punish you, of course.”
you swallowed as he shut the car off, the city sitting innocently in view. the spot between your legs was aching, desperate for some form of release. you couldn’t help the swell in your chest at the fact that eren was your boyfriend now, anxiously awaiting whatever he had in mind.
eren leaned over you, maintaining a deep stare as he shifted your seat into a flat position. his fingers lightly danced across your skin as he unbuckled your belt, face hovering above the hem of your skirt. he glanced back up to you, teal eyes glinting in the darkness.
“can’t wait to fuck my new girlfriend,” eren growled, wasting no time in climbing on top of you. he shifted your legs so that your knees were bent by your head, wet cunt on full display in front of him. he stared down at you, a hand on each knee. “shit, you’re so hot like this.”
he slowly brought a finger to your center, the feeling of his cold digit gliding against you bringing slight relief to the deep ache. his eyes were focused below your waist, lazily flitting upwards as he brought his finger to your lips. “taste.”
you happily accepted, wrapping your lips around his finger. your tongue swirled around his knuckle, the saccharin taste filling your mouth. he pulled it from your lips, a devilish grin on his features.
“i can’t wait any longer,” he breathed, leaning forward to press his lips against yours. the kiss was deep and heated, however it felt different from all the others you’d shared in the past. it was meaningful and tender, slow and deliberate. his tongue swiped your lip, slipping into your mouth with a sigh.
his hands undid his pants as you kissed, the sound of his belt being undone filling the small space. you could feel him positioning the tip of his cock at your entrance, sliding it against your slick.
eren pulled back to look at you, breaths mingled for a moment before he pushed past your entrance, burying himself deep within you. the stretch was slightly uncomfortable and you were convinced you’d never get accustomed to the sheer size of his dick.
eren didn’t wait for you to adjust, flexing his hips back to give you another purposeful thrust. a whimper slipped past your lips at the feeling, his hand leaving your leg and lightly wrapping around your neck.
“fuck,” he hissed, speeding up his pace. your walls clenched around him, climax fast approaching with every deep thrust of his cock within your cunt. “feels so good fucking you when you’re all mine.”
his hand tightened around your throat, the combined pressure at both ends of your body only adding to the pleasure as he rammed into you. he grunted as his other hand pressed your legs forward, getting a better angle so that he could fill you to the hilt.
a strangled cry ripped from your throat as he hit particularly deep, bringing his face down to roughly kiss your lips. he was breathing heavily, the car shaking as he bucked his hips into yours.
eren craned his neck down to look at where his length disappeared inside of you, a small smile toying at his features. the sight caused his cock to twitch, relishing in just how nicely he filled you up. you were his, and he was yours.
just the thought of you being his girlfriend was enough; a loud groan leaving his chest as he pressed his hips against yours. you could feel him release himself inside of you, the thick sensation bringing on a much anticipated orgasm. your limbs grew cold, the pleasure reaching the tips of your fingers.
eren placed a chaste kiss to your forehead, gazing down at you. “my girlfriend is so fucking hot.” he grinned.
you rolled your eyes at his cheesy comment, swatting his chest playfully. he carefully removed himself from you, trying not to drip onto the car seat.
“here, pretty. you’ll have to keep your legs up,” he instructed as he pulled his pants back up. you frowned, the thought of holding this position the whole way back somewhat daunting.
“huh? but how am i supposed to keep this stuff from coming out?” you whined, still trying to regain your composure. eren’s face was flushed as he smirked at you.
“that’ll be your punishment, m’kay?” he said smugly. you scoffed, holding your knees in each hand.
“but that’ll be impossible!”
“don’t worry,” he leaned forward to kiss your lips once again. “i’ll drive slow.”
