Record of Ragnarok x Harry Potter reader. (I do hope that you know the Harry Potter series) the reader can be from the ages 11-17 and could do complex magic spells and can do all with their wand.
Got stumped at this point but I generally wanted to know how the gods and humans; especially Odin would react to this.
It could happen during the tournament or not.
-Y/N Potter, survivor of the dark lord Voldemort, a mere 11 years old, had died at the end of your first year of Hogwarts, taking your DADA teacher, Professor Quirrell and Voldemort with you, ridding the world of evil.
-While you were bummed when you arrived in Valhalla, as you had enjoyed going to Hogwarts and making friends, this new world you found yourself in was so vast and had lots of stuff to explore!
-Many of the gods were furious to learn that you lost your life fighting the battles of adults, even if you technically won because you rid the world of evil, and the human warriors were quick to adopt you as their own.
-You were so small, and after you told them how you were treated by your aunt, uncle, and dumpty cousin, it was no wonder why, and your massive adoptive family were very quick to start spoiling you and showering you with love, praise, and all the snacks you could ever want to eat!
-After learning a bit more about Hogwarts, Odin and Loki became your teachers on how to use magic, teaching you Latin and the basics of magic.
-This was totally unlike how you were being taught at Hogwarts! You were learning spells and skills that most didn’t learn until they were an adult- after they graduated!! And you were still only eleven!
-That was one downside, as you died at your prime, so you wouldn’t grow anymore after this, so you were forever stuck as a child. Some things about it wasn’t bad, as you got out of trouble a lot and many loved to hug you like you were a little kid, but there were times you wanted to be treated like an adult, which some thought was cute.
-There were a few, like Thor, Lu Bu, and Nikola, who treated you like an adult, Thor and Lu Bu because they treated you like everyone else when they were teaching you things, and Nikola did it because he could see your drive for learning and was quick to figure out that you were way smarter than you seemed.
-You enjoyed spending time with Jack the most, mainly because the two of you would discuss books you’ve both read over afternoon tea, something you weren’t allowed to participate in while you had been alive until you reached Hogwarts.
-You did find, however, much to Loki’s amusement, that you quite enjoyed being underestimated by those who didn’t know you, thinking you were just some twiggy, dorky looking kid, only for you to easily hand their asses to them without moving a single inch!
-You were definitely a force to be reckoned with, not only with your own skills and powers, but with your massive family now in your corner, backing you up.

Bellatrix Lestrange x Reader
Y/N and Bellatrix are second cousins. Now it's time to say goodbye to each other as Bella is in danger.
Tumblr media
It was nearly midnight when Y/N went to the Malfoy's Manor to meet Bella as she promised. The stars were shining so bright above and the moon painted the environment with it's blue light. And there she was, standing in one corner with sadness in her eyes. Though she tried to hide it deep down her Y/N still could penetrate till the deepest point of her soul. Bellatrix threw herself into Y/N's opened arms, hugged her so tight and tear started bursting out of her eyes like waves of a raging river.
''Bella?''- Y/N asked softly
''I'm sorry, I am really really sorry for this, but I had to do this.''- she cried
Y/n looked at her curly black and brown hair with confusion.
''Hey''- Y/n said softly '' It's okay, just talk to me, alright?''
And Bella began.
'' Months ago the Dark Lord found out that you and I are related and that we are so close. And that was not all, he also found out that you are Harry's friend and that you're on his side, he thought maybe I was helping you, giving you and therefore Harry and others some secret information and that probably I wasn't loyal to him. After that he tortured me a lot with cruciatus curse and still he didn't believe me, he didn't.'' - she again began crying
All Y/N could do was just hugging her and kissing her forehead, Y/n had no idea what to say or do. Voldemort hurt Bella. She was furious and yet she knew she could not do anything to Voldemort.
''He gave me time to prove that I didn't betray him, he even forced me to drink Veritaserum, but even after that he didn;t believe me. The thing is I don't wanna die, I don't wanna leave you. I spent most of my time living in darkness, now it's finally the time when the prophecy about Harry Potter and the Dark Lord will come true and I finally can live without darkness in my life. I am not evil, I'm not like them, but now it is time that I have to go, I'm sorry, but I have to leave you and maybe this is the very last time we're togheter. He's gonna kill me.'' - Bella finished
All this time Y/n was listening with tears in her eyes and she just dreamed of waking up from this nighmare. No, she could not live without Bellatrix. But there she heard footspets coming from behind.
'' Saying goodbye to the loved one, aren't we Bellatrix?''- his cold voice was heard from behind,- ''How sad. Well I'll do you one last favor before you die. You have exactly 2 minutes.''- and the Dark Lord disappeared.
'' No, Bella please, please don't do this to me, please, you're the only one I have, you're my only family. Can't you just hide somewhere and wait until he's defeated?''
'' I wish I could, but he'll find me where ever I go. You think I didn't try? But look now it's time we say goodbye. But remember this those who love us never leave us and you can always find them in here.'' and Bella pointed into Y/n's heart
'' That's what exactly Sirius said to Harry you know? I'll miss you Bella and I want you to know that no matter what I'll always have you in my heart, I love you Bellatrix. '' Y/n finished as he appeared again.
'' It's enough now.'' - were his words.
''Will you stay with me?''- asked Y/n to Bella and looked in her eyes for very last time.
''Always.'' - said Bella. The green light spread all over the place, throwing Bellatrix on the groun and sending her to an endless sleep.

Bellatrix Lestrange has a daughter who befriends Harry AU
So...conception.
Well, Rodolphus and Bellatrix conceive a child on the order of Voldemort. Since Voldemort wants to live forever, he keeps in mind that his army would need an eventual replacement. And if Bellatrix is willing to spend so much time in Azkaban for Voldemort, than surely motherhood is less extreme than 14 years of torture. Plus, if they are unable to perform, well, Voldemort can always cast Impero.
I think the couple would still end up in Azkaban, Voldemort would still diseappear and the Longbottoms are here also. Also, I headcanon that they were fed some pain-relief cancelling potions by Rabastan who spiked their tea. A potion that blocks the body’s natural soothing reflexes, thus making the brain overflow with cortisol to the point of nerve damage. And it makes more sense then just the Crucio thing, because I try to be more scientific than J.K Rowling.
Now, in terms of name, the Lestrange family seems to be, for the British branch, have latinized Germanic names inspired by scavenging animals, and the French branche has Latin names based of creepy animals and concepts (although the girls seem to have perfectly normal names, if a bit rare). The Black family seemed to all have constellation names, mostly Greek and Latin.  However, we all know J.K Rowling loves name symbolisme. Peonies, in French flower language are associated with bashful love (especially pink ones), apology (especially white peonies), shame (french expression: rouge comme une pivoine), compassion, wealth, passion (especially red ones) and remorse. In british flower language, it can symbolize unluck and luck, while for Americans it can represent wealth and marital bliss. In China, it can mean honor, beauty, luck and wealth, and in Japan, it can symbolize honor and bravery. The peony plant is mildly toxic, but have been used historically as a pain killer in small doses.
So for a character who tries to do good, and wash herself of the family shame to do what is right, the Peony seems right. So Peony Lestrange she is.
Now, by who she will be raised. There are multiple possibilities, including: grandparents and aunt, Andromeda and Ted Tonks, the Malfoys, and Walden Macnair and his wife (who’s probably a psycho, because if he’s a walking stereotype and a more competant version of Jack Ketch, than he can be also married to a stereotypical Bourrelle, because why not pile up stereotypes at this point) or the Muggle foster system. I think the Muggle foster system would make her a bit to angsty for something like Harry Potter, but she can live with her grandparents and aunt, with maybe some cousins (I already made two OCs for this). Now, Andromeda and Ted Tonks would probably find it very strange having to raise the daughter from the family that disowned her, so that may not happen. Narcissa would probably welcome her niece with open arms, but Lucius, I don’t think he would want the attention of raising the daughter of the two most infamous Death Eaters when he tries to distance himself, although he could just as well craft a story of socializing her into becoming a “respectable young lady”, and Macnair might become responsable for the children of Azkaban thanks to some obscure law.  I think getting her raised by the Malfoys, and have regular contact with her grandparents and cousins, plus Macnair, would give her a nice “framework”.
In terms of looks, none of the HP main characters are describes as particularly “hot”, mostly normal teenagers. However, many purebloods, at least from the “evil” families, are shown as good looking, but sickly. We can have a slight mixt of the two by having her get a pale, ashy complexion and reddish dark, intense circles (if snakes can blink, Harry have magical hair and Snape have pitch-black eyes, she can have a slightly unrealistic complexion, plus it’s not that flattering to current beauty standards) giving her a shadowy stare.
And why would she rebel against her family. I think she would be someone who grows up feeling incredibly lonely, plus let’s not forget the casual relationships many pureblood wizards have with violence, and that’s already a very bad mixt. Plus, I think she would be genetically pre-disposed to enjoy the thrill of the chase, both as predator and as prey. So, Peony would grow up a very depressed child, subconsciously desiring real relationship. Also, might have reoccurring nightmares from living under the same roof as a sadist, even if they don’t harm her directly. Now, she would still be a proud pureblood used to grow up in an odd mixture of wealth and outcast hood, and be quite proud, and be hugely impulsive. Now, Lucius Malfoy is a sadist, it’s basically canon. Macnair is also a sadist (who tries to contend himself with animals, but is more than happy to move onto human victims), and Snape has some sadistic tendencies, but mostly show as verbal bullying and is not a serious threat. But I think her rebellion would be slow, and she would probably want, in the beginning at least, to still have warm relationships. Also, since the only reason she was born in the first place is to be groomed into becoming a death eater, so yeah, that’s also something to consider. Also, living in such a social environment, would require if she lacks cunning, a great deal of bravery. So, for her to be into Gryffindor were she would have more opportunities to befriend Harry, she will have to be a little dumb dumb, and frankly quite clueless, especially with social life.

I would be okay with the phantoms if their agenda didn’t change so quickly and if the acting wasn’t comparable to something from a backwoods haunted house.

Paring: Remus Lupin X Wife!Potter!Reader
Summary: Life is unfair in numerous ways but it seems like it’s out to get the Potters in every way shape and form.
The huge eight-foot man who introduced himself as Hagrid was bringing Harry around London. It was amusing to see Hagrid turn his cousin - Dudley - butt into a pigtail after trying to eat his birthday cake. It was the first birthday Y/n, and Remus hadn’t shown up. Harry didn’t blame them. Of course, to be fair, they didn’t know where Harry was.
“Um, excuse me, Hagrid?”
“Yes, ‘Arry?”
“Where- Where are we going?” Harry questioned hesitantly, and Hagrids lips curled into a smile, “‘Er gon’ meet with som’ of yer folks.” Hagrid answered.
Harry wanted to jump with joy, “Moony and Y/n?”
Hagrid nodded, and Harry smiled brightly. It took a couple of minutes and walking of a couple more blocks. But eventually, they were coming up on an old-looking building made of black stone bricks. In front of the door was a familiar sandy-haired male with green eyes. He was accompanied by his wife with h/c hair and gleaming e/c eyes.
“Y/n! Remus!”
Y/n turned to see her little nephew running up to hug her tightly, “Hey Harry.”
Remus ruffled his hair while Harry hugged his aunt, “Hey there, mini Prongs.”
“I missed you.”
“Awe, I missed you too, Harry.” Y/n replied, pulling apart from Harry, “I’m sorry we didn’t show up right away. But we’re here now. I hope that’s okay. We wouldn’t miss your birthday for the world, okay?”
He nodded, “I know. I can always count on you.”
“Good.” Remus stated, “Now c’mon mini prongs. Gotta get your school supplies.”
Walking into the Leaky Cauldron with Hagrid, they were greeted by multiple people. Many people were flabbergasted by meeting the famous Harry Potter and were welcoming to see Y/n Potter. In the back of the Leaky Cauldron, Hagrid tapped his wand against the brick wall, causing it to open into Diagon Alley. Harry’s mouth was agape at this new form of Magic.
It was astonishing. The narrow alleyway was packed with people. Clusters of them walking in groups. Some were carrying animals, or brown-wrapped items Harry could suppose were books. Y/n smiled and intertwined her hand with Remus’. She could remember the first time she stepped into Diagon Alley. James was acting like such a prat.
“Woah!” James gasped, “Look at all the cool stuff!”
Fleamont chuckled, “Yeah. Isn’t it cool, sweetheart?”
Y/n nodded, completely entranced in the stonework in the alleyway. It was littered with different shops, and the roads were an uneven stone. Euphemia and Fleamont shared a look of pure glee. Their children were magical born, and they were finally experiencing it first hand. Of course, they had their incidents where Y/n would make lights flicker or James blowing plates.
As they began walking, James began to run off, bumping into people left and right, “James! Get back here!” Fleamont scolded, but he was out of sight.
Euphemia sighed, “He’s gonna be a handful.”
“Definitely.” Fleamont agreed, running a hand through his dark brunet hair, “Perhaps he’ll be even worse than me.”
His wife glared at him. Despite James disappearing, they took Y/n into Flourish and Blotts to get their books. They needed books such as The Standard Book of Spells (Grade 1), A History of Magic, Magical Theory, A Beginners’ Guide to Transfiguration, One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi, Magical Drafts and Potions, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and finally, The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection.
They didn’t find James until they reached Quality Quidditch Supplies. He was already eyeing the new broom on display. His mouth seemed to be salivating at it. Y/n rolled her eyes at James, drooling over a piece of wood. Euphemia chuckled and motioned Fleamont to reel him back in. It seemed that Euphemia would never get a break, and her heart would be in a constant attack of worry. They had a mischief Quidditch player on their hands.
“C’mon Harry,” Y/n beckoned, “Lots of stuff to get.”
His smile faltered just a tad, “But I don’t- I don’t have any money.”
Harry’s embarrassment made the tips of his ears red, “That ain’t true. ‘Course ye got money.” Hagrid replied bluntly, making Y/n nudge him harshly, “Hagrid!”
“What?” Hagrid queried, confused, “‘S not like ‘m lyin’.”
“Yes, but you don’t just say that.” Y/n scolded, laughing lightly.
“Oops?”
Harry looked up at his flustered aunt, “Come on, Harry. We’re going to Gringotts.”
They began walking to the bank of wizardry. The goblin at the front allowed them to the vault, where Harry was able to pocket a couple of handfuls of galleons, sickles, and knuts. Hagrid made a separate trip for Dumbledore as the other three waited patiently. When they exited Gringotts, Harry began to buy all his supplies.
Their first stop was getting him a wand at Ollivander’s. Harry pushed the door open, and it sounded a bell off, but no one appeared the be in the shop. Remus and Y/n stood behind him as he let out a hesitant, “Hello.”
It took a minute, but then an older male appeared with hair as white as snow and wispy as whiskers. Ollivander smiled brightly at the familiar people in his shop and at the little boy who resembled the older female greatly.
“Ah, Y/n Potter.” Ollivander said, “James broken his wand again?”
Y/n released a shaky breath, “No, not this time.”
“We’re here actually for Harry here.” Remus motioned to Harry, “He’s getting his first wand. He starts at Hogwarts this year.”
Ollivander's lips quirked, “He yours?”
“No, sir.” Y/n shook her head, “He’s James and Lily’s son.”
“Where are they? I’d love to see them, you know.”
Remus shifted awkwardly, “You haven’t heard?”
Ollivander shook his head, “My parents are dead.” Harry informed, “Someone killed them.”
Everything clicked into place in Ollivanders mind. How stupid could old age make him? He had just sounded terribly insensitive, “‘M so sorry. Pardon me and my old age. I didn’t mean-“
“It’s perfectly fine, Ollivander.” Y/n smiled reassuringly.
The older man smiled and began giving Harry wands. The first one was horrid. It made wands on the shelf fall onto the ground, making a vast clatter noise. The boy smiled sheepishly and placed it back in the box. The next wand caused a shatter of a vase which Harry cringed at. It took a couple of minutes until Ollivander came out with the following wand. It was 11 inches long, made of holly, and possessed a phoenix feather core.
Harry waved the wand, and nothing disastrous happened. Remus and Y/n smiled with joy. Ollivander charged him seven galleons for it, and Harry placed down the golden coins with glee. Ollivander could remember the way James had done the same while Y/n beside him. Their identical toothy grins as Fleamont paid the man.
“My wands cooler than yours!”
“No way!”
James nodded in triumph, “You’re just lame.”
“And you’re boring!”
“No way!” James gasped, “I am far from boring!”
Y/n crossed her arms, “And I’m not lame.”
Euphemia chuckled, redirecting her children to look at the counter while the two parents stood behind them, “Ignore them. They like to try and be better than the other.”
Ollivander grinned, “Ah, siblings. What amazing pairs they make.”
Fleamont scoffed, “Yeah, try having two at the same time. Felt like the crucio curse.”
“What do you say?” Euphemia beckoned, and both twins turned to Ollivander, smiling gleefully, “Thank you!”
“They’ll be a handful.” Ollivander informed Euphemia and Fleamont, “But they’ll change the world, and they’ll do it together.”
The older man smiled at Remus and Y/n as Harry went outside to see Hagrid carrying a giant golden cage with a beautiful snowy owl inside, “That boy is something else.”
Remus chuckled, “We know. Little mischief-maker, just like James.”
“Perhaps he is,” Ollivander replied, “But he’ll change the world.”
The rest of the day went by blissfully. After getting all his school supplies, they retreated into the Leaky Cauldron to eat dinner. The tavern was practically empty as they sat at a long narrow table. Hagrid at the head, Harry to his left, Remus across, and Y/n beside Remus on the other side. They were eating in silence before Harry spoke up.
“What happened to my parents?” Harry questioned, and before anyone could answer, he continued, “Truthfully. No lies.”
Hagrid and Remus turned to the female at the table who swallowed thickly, “Something horrid, Harry.”
“How horrid?”
“Harry-“ Remus began.
“A death I wouldn’t wish upon anyone, even my worse enemy.” Y/n answered, staring at the soup in front of her, “The way they died doesn’t matter.”
Harry crossed his arms, “I believe it does.”
“In the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t.” Y/n replied, taking deep breaths in and out, trying to stay calm, “It doesn’t matter how they died. They’re dead, and they aren’t coming back.”
Tears collected in her eyes when she muttered, “No matter how badly I want them to.”
Hastily Y/n wiped her face and placed her napkin on the table. She sniffled before standing and pushing her chair in. Y/n leaned down to kiss Harry on the forehead before retreating to the room they got upstairs. Harry sighed and stared at his bowl of soup that remained steaming hot. Remus rubbed his face with his palms.
“Harry,” Remus called, and Harry’s green eyes met similar ones, “Your parents died at the hands of a very evil Wizard. He went as dark as one could go.”
Harry looked intrigued, and Remus continued despite his throat beginning to constrict, “His name was Voldemort, but most people call him ‘You-Know-Who.”
Hagrid flinched at the actual name being said, “James risked everything to try and save you and your mother. When he died, Lily tried to save you. In the end, it all worked out because you were saved. You didn’t die like you were supposed to.”
“Why did aunt Y/n leave the table?”
“Talking about this is still hard for her.” Remus replied, and Harry could see the tears in his eyes too, “It’s hard for me too, but- but you need to know.”
“What were they to you?”
“James and Lily were everything to me, Harry. Everything and so much more. Your mother saw the good in people when they didn’t see it themselves. Your father? Well-“ He chuckled, “He was a trip and a prat. But he cared for those around him. Treated me like family and took care of me like a brother.”
Harry fiddled with the sleeve of his sweater, “James was a mischief-maker that one.” Hagrid said, “Always up to no good.”
“Him and that Sirius boy.” Hagrid chuckled, “Dynamic duo those two.”
Remus let out a tearful chuckle, “Yeah, that was Padfoot and Prongs.”
“Always up to no good.” Remus whispered.
The following day Remus had waken up to what he swore was the most perfect sight. Y/n was still sleeping beside him. Her head was nestled under his chin, drinking in his body heat. Her hair was laid against the fluffy white pillow. Their legs were intertwined together. Gently Remus kissed her forehead before seeing the clock read about nine o’clock.
Remus took five more minutes to admire her before waking her up. He began to kiss all over her face, and Y/n scrunched her nose, waking up as his lips kept attaching to a new place on her face. He smiled as she opened her eyes to meet his green ones.
“Mornin’ love.”
His Welsh accent was to die for, “Morning, Rem.”
“You ready to take Harry to Platform Nine and Three Quarters?”
Y/n shook her head, “No. Not really.”
“Hey,” Remus said softly, stroking her hair, “You’ll be okay. We’ll be okay.”
“There are so many memories there, Rem.” Y/n replied, “Like- Like meeting Sirius for the first time.”
“Or seeing you come back after fourth year with an entirely new style.” Remus chuckled, “Or- Or seeing James almost fall out of the train.
Remus caressed her cheek with his thumb, “We’ll make it through, love. Harry needs us today.”
“Yeah.” She replied breathily, “He does.”
They both ventured out of bed into the cool air of London. Remus, Y/n, and Hagrid walked Harry to Kings Cross. When they arrived, Hagrid had departed from them to do something for Dumbledore. Harry was bluntly confused when his ticket read Platform Nine and Three Quarters. Last he checked, that wasn’t a platform.
As they reached the main floor of the train station, Remus and Y/n recognized the Weasleys almost instantly. Molly had embraced them tightly as they all went through the platform. Harry gave his trunks to the man at the end of the train and turned to the only family he had left. His eyes glistened with tears, and he tried to hold them back but failed.
“Harry,” Y/n knelt to his level, “You’re gonna be okay. I promise. James and I made lots of friends at Hogwarts.”
He smiled at the mention of his father, “Do you think… Do you think he’d be proud of me?”
“They’d be beyond proud, Harry.” Remus replied, smiling, “You’re everything they wanted you to be.”
Harry turned back to Y/n and hugged her tightly, “Please make sure you write to us.”
“‘Course, Auntie.” Harry replied as they pulled apart, “Love you guys.”
Y/n stood beside Remus, “We love you too, sweetheart.”
Harry smiled and wiped his cheeks before hopping on the train. He found a compartment alone and watched out the window as the train began moving. Y/n and Remus watched as the train hauled by. Kids who started waving their last goodbyes to their parents.
“Mum, dad!” James exclaimed from inside the compartment, “We love you!”
Euphemia and Fleamont chuckled tearfully, “We love you guys too!”
Truthfully James never wanted to leave his parents. They were his entire world. When Kings Cross was no longer in sight, he plopped down in the seat beside Y/n, who put her head on his shoulder. His left arm wrapped around her shoulders, pulling her tightly to his side.
“We got this, sis.” James assured, “We always have each other.”
It didn’t take long for Harry to get in trouble. As a matter of fact, it made Y/n laugh that within the first month, he had already managed a detention. She had settled for a letter rather than a Howler. Remus had made sure to tell him his fair of scolding words (“Say hi to Minnie for me!”). Harry smiled when the letter arrived in the morning.
Harry definitely made sure to say hi to “Minnie,” which made McGonagall smile like an idiot despite her usual strict nature. She could see and hear James saying the name when she gave them detention or Sirius’ pouty face begging her to have some form of mercy on them, for they had just turned the Slytherin robes red. Ever the dramatics that Black.
When he arrived back at the Platform, he nuzzled into Y/n and Remus’ arms before departing to the Dursleys. But all was good because in just a month he’d see them again for his birthday, which he did. They took him to Diagon Alley to get his second-year stuff along with some ice cream to celebrate his twelfth birthday.
He spent a week of his summer with them in their little house in London. It was far better than Privet Drive, and he felt a lot safer. But after the week was up, he was forced to return to the Dursleys. Within a week of being back, he’d managed to screw everything up. A thing named Dobby had quite literally dumped puddling all over one of the Dursley’s guests, and that got him trapped in his room.
Thankfully, Ronald Weasley, who had become his close friend, had saved him. Harry went to the Burrow for the first time and met everyone else. Molly had notified Remus and Y/n of his entrance. Sadly, they couldn’t make it to the Platform for reasons. Molly wouldn’t tell Harry, but he was okay with it.
Until Ron and he smashed into the brick wall, making them late for the train. It was then Ron had a brilliant thought of taking the flying car to Hogwarts. It did work until they got stuck in the Whomping Willow and then got caught by Severus Snape. A letter was sent home to Y/n and Molly. Both of which made two very different Howlers to their children.
Molly’s howler was scolding them, and it made Ron’s ears turn pink. Y/n and Remus’ howler was a different story. The moment it opened, laughter rang through the Great Hall. Familiar laughter of Remus and Y/n. It made McGonagall furious and happy at the same time.
“Merlin Harry!” Remus’ voice rang out, “You’re brilliant, aren’t you!”
“Remus, we’re supposed to be scolding him!” Y/n retorted jokingly, “I’m scolding myself for never thinking of it!” Remus replied.
Y/n chuckled, “Obviously, you shouldn't have done that, Harry; however, as long as you’re not harmed, we aren’t mad. Just be more careful next time.”
Remus was still dying of laughter, “Remus is still dying of laughter. We love you, Harry. Stay safe.”
Ron looked appalled with the coolness of the howler, “Bloody hell, you have a cool family.”
“They’re pretty cool.” Harry shrugged, smiling.
Y/n and Remus would be lying if the whole petrifying thing didn’t scare them. They were worried for Harry’s safety but weren’t surprised when Harry ended up saving them all like last year. When they were on the Platform, Remus began getting on the train with him after kissing Y/n goodbye.
He was grunting and groaning at every movement. The bags beneath his eyes looked more prominent than usual. Remus moved sluggishly, which was very unlike him. But Harry didn’t question it until he began to get on the train at Harry’s side.
“Uncle Moony?”
“Yes, Harry?” Remus replied after sitting in a compartment, his cloak covering most of his body.
“Why’re you on the train?”
He chuckled, “I’m your new Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor.”
Harry smiled, and Remus fell into a dreamless sleep after a rough full moon the night prior. Hermione and Ron joined them not too long after as Harry began telling them about Sirius Black. The year went by as eventful as usual. Harry found out the accurate way his parents died along with Remus and Y/n. Peter Pettigrew being the culprit and then leaving before someone could catch him.
Afterward, Sirius had been staying in the guest bedroom at Y/n and Remus’. He didn’t want to go back to Grimmauld Place. That was the last place he wanted to go. So despite not wanting to be a burden, he took the position that Y/n offered him. Ever so kind, just like James. When he walked through those doors, Y/n had hugged him tightly and kissed his cheek.
“It’s good to have you back, older brother.”
Sirius could’ve cried on the spot, “It’s nice to see you again, little sis.”
The next couple of years were a trip. Fourth-year Harry had managed to get his name pulled out of the Goblet of Fire, leading to a new adventure of challenges. After finishing his fourth year, Cedric Diggory had died, marking the return of Voldemort, which had traumatized Harry in more than one way. That summer, he decided to stay with Y/n, Remus, and Sirius. They were all fantastic help throughout the entire thing. Through his nightmares, Y/n would make him hot chocolate and sit on the couch with him as he talked.
Fifth-year was dreadful. Delores Umbridge had come into the office as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor, and the Order of the Phoenix reformed. Her detentions were terrible and horrid, especially for the first years. They were just kids, for Merlin’s sake. It made Y/n fume when she saw the back of Harry’s hand. The night they ventured to the Department of Mysteries was almost the worst night Harry could have dreamed of.
Sirius had almost died if Y/n wasn’t as quick as she was. Bellatrix was stunned to see her spell deflected but kept firing nonetheless. When they got home, it was silent. Remus had made tea for himself and Sirius while making hot chocolate for the other two. Harry had laid his head on Y/n’s shoulder and fallen asleep.
Truth be told, sixth year wasn’t any better. Dumbledore had died, and Harry was left to find the rest of the Horcruxes. It was then Sirius learned the actual death of his brother, making him mourn him all over again. Seventh year Harry, Ron, and Hermione ventured out to find the rest of them.
When Harry returned to Hogwarts through the passageway to the Room of Requirement with Snape as headmaster, the war had officially started. In the end, everything had fallen into place. When Harry used the resurrection stone, he saw them. He saw James, Lily, Remus, and Sirius. Harry almost wanted to laugh at seeing them all together. They looked so happy.
“Where- Where’s Y/n?”
Remus gave a solemn smile, “She made it. She’s still out there. Waiting for you.”
“Does that mean…”
“Turns out my sister is a tougher cookie than I thought.” James stated, and Harry turned to him, “She misses you.”
James chuckled, “As I do her.”
Harry turned back to Remus, “Does she know?”
“She was there when it happened.” Remus replied, “I had to give her one last ‘I love you’ and kiss goodbye, right?”
A noise rumbled from a distance, “It’s time, sweetie.” Lily stated.
Harry released a shaky breath before dropping the stone on the ground. He had to do this for Y/n, for Ron, for Hermione, for everyone. He was ready. When he stepped in front of Voldemort to die, all he could think about was his Aunt's eyes. The way they glittered with tears when she let him go for the first time. The way they creased when she smiled at his first Christmas. The way they gleamed with mischief when she gave the Weasley twins new prank material.
His last words would be ones he’d never regret, “Thank you, aunt Y/n, for everything.”
Because through everything, she was the only constant. She was the only one to hold him through anything. Through every nightmare, every battle, every tear, every smile. She was there with her radiant smile and caring nature.
When Harry defeated Voldemort, the world stopped. It was done. It was over. But the pain wasn’t gone. The trauma wasn’t bypassed. This was more than a war. Harry walked into the Great Hall to see crying parents, kids, and siblings mourning their dead loved ones. His eyes zoomed on Y/n sitting crisscross beside her husband, holding his hand tightly.
Wordlessly Harry sat beside her and leaned his head against her shoulder. Y/n tilted her head onto his. No tears fell from her eyes despite everything she had gone through, two wars, friends dead, parents dead, brother dead, and now husband dead.
“His last words were- they were,” She choked, and Harry rubbed her shoulder, “I love you more than Moony loves the moon.”
Harry smiled, “Dad said you were a tough cookie.”
Y/n chuckled, and Harry relished in the sound, “He said that if anyone could get through this, it’s you.”
“Damn it, James.” She said to no one, still holding Remus’ hand.
“We’ll get through this.” Harry said, “And we’ll do it together.”
“Together.”

adventures in babysitting
At least Voldemort had the decency to look evil, Drank thinks later, after the doctor he hires to tell him his baby cousin hadn’t given him lycanthropy tells him werewolves are able to infect as young as three. He pays the doctor double to keep quiet and spends the rest of the month crying in the bathroom, pausing only to floo Andromeda and let her know she should get a sitter for the full moon, preferably one that already has lycanthropy or one she wouldn’t mind sacrificing to werewolf-hood, like a Weasley.
“Oh, Im actually going to France with Minerva next week,” his aunt says before he can actually tell her why he's calling. “Harry’s taking care of Teddy.”
Draco’s breath catches in his throat, stopped-up by memories of a half-naked boy kissing his mouth, his neck, his chest, his stomach, his wrist, between his legs —
“Draco?” He’s still flooing Andromeda.
“HaveAGoodTime, Bye!” He yells and pulls his head out of the fireplace. Resumes crying in the bathroom, now with the added quandary: Do I tell my ex-lover he’s babysitting a lethal baby if it means I’ll have to talk to him for the first time since I broke things off to focus on betraying him (and saving my mother’s life) in sixth year? He tries to convince himself he doesn’t care what happens to Harry and, when that doesn’t work, he tries to remember what hating Harry felt like. He ends up knocking on Grimmauld Place the day before the full moon.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” Harry’s wearing black shorts and a knit tunic cardigan and nothing else.
“I see you’re still opposed to wearing shirts.”
“What the fuck are you doing here?” Harry repeats. Draco wants to tell him every awful feeling he’s had over the past month, how most of them have been sharpened to an animal edge that terrifies him, and also he doesn’t want to tell him anything at all.
“You’re watching Teddy.”
“Yes. And?”
“And … I wanted to warn you about him. He has the ability to infect you. Just so you know.”
“He’s three. Why actually are you here?”
“Werewolves gain the ability to transmit the disease at age three, even though they won’t transform until they’re in their teens. That’s actually why I’m here. He bit me.”
The words hang in that space between them where hatred and love have both taken up residence before. Draco doesn’t know which end of the spectrum Harry’s response is going to fall closer to: if he thinks Draco deserves this, or if he thinks this is a tragedy of the highest order and is going to spend the rest of the day crying in the bathroom with Draco.
“So you’re going to transform into a werewolf on Friday. Would you like company? I’m assuming you’re on wolfsbane, and I’m an animagus, remember.”
As though Draco could forget the majestic stag turning back into a half-naked boy mid-laugh and kissing Draco breathless, whispering you need a really good tether to manage an animagus transformation and you’re mine.
“Have you done it since then?” Draco asks. Did you find security in someone else?
“No.” Harry says. “But I mean the mechanics are the same so I can’t imagine it’d be all that difficult. Besides, this’ll be good practice for later, when Teddy, you know, transforms. I’m sure he’d like having two people he trusts with him, especially if one of them’s another werewolf and can show him the ropes.
Hope rises like the full moon inside Draco. He’s never been good at recognizing bad things for what they are, but the best things always look like this: half-naked, bright-eyed, spinning bad luck into golden futures.

It’s Pretty
Pairing: Sirius Black x Female!Reader
Warnings: death, fighting, swearing, fluff
Word Count: 1k
Summary: Y/N is newly pregnant and Sirius is over the moon. Then, the unexpected happens.
A/N: I usually post imagines on Mondays, but I wrote this last night and couldn’t wait!

Tumblr media
Lounging on the couch with my head in Sirius’s lap, we go over baby names. I’m only less than a handful of months along, so we’re keeping the news a secret until we’re certain it’s safe. The only people who know are Remus and Harry. We told Remus because he’s our oldest friend and Sirius accidentally exploded when Remus came over the other day. The man-made it through from the door and Sirius just let it out. It came as quite a shock to me too and I’m the pregnant one. Harry was planned. We wrote to him asking to be the godfather, it only seems fair. Sirius pushed for Remus for a while, but with his responsibilities to the Order, I felt Harry was the best choice.
Ever since we found out, it’s all Sirius can talk about. When everyone comes over for meetings he has to bite his tongue. I’m afraid the meetings' firewhiskey sessions will perhaps be my worst enemy one day. Sirius loves to blab. Recently, he’s been talking about names all hours of the day and sometimes randomly in the middle of the night. No seriously- no pun intended- he’ll wake me up in the middle of the night when he’s thought of “the most perfect name for the little guy.” We don’t even know if it’s a boy yet.
“Alexi,” I announce for a boy.
Sirius cowers, his face scrunched like a bulldog. “Alexi? What are we Russian?”
“It’s pretty!” I defend.
“I won’t let my son have a pretty name,” he mocks. “It’ll be handsome and strong!”
I roll my eyes. “And Sirius isn’t pretty?”
“It’s majestic,” he corrects.
I hum, “oh! What about Torryn?”
He taps his finger against his chin, pondering it over. “Not too shabby. Better than Alexi...” He remarks slyly. “We always do-”
“We’re not naming it James!” I repeat, yet again. “Let Harry have that one.”
“Fine...” he grumbles, all pouty. “What if it’s a girl?”
“Sheridan,” I answer.
“So now we’re Irish?!” He sighs deeply, resting his head back dramatically on the couch.
“Do you have any bright ideas?!” I challenge playfully.
“Cressida,” he states calmly.
“Cressida...” I repeat, thinking it over.
“You like it?” Sirius smiles, petting my hair gently as he looks down at me.
“Yes actually,” I admit. “It’s pretty!”
“Don’t sound so surprised,” he laughs, leaning in for a kiss.
The sound of the front door causes Sirius and I to leap up from our position. My heart pounds in my chest. We weren’t expecting visitors today. The sound of footsteps, a series of them, brings me panic. Sirius immediately blocks me from the archway, protecting me. His wand is raised in front of him in one hand and the other grips my hand behind him. Then, Remus and Tonks turn the corner panting.
“Quick! It’s Harry and the other kids!”
“What?!” Sirius and I say in unison.
“They’re... They’re at the ministry!” Remus pants. “The prophecy!”
Sirius curses under his breath and starts down the hall the way they came with our friends. I follow the trio without a second thought.
“You’re not going!” Sirius shouts just before we reach the door.
“I’m coming Sirius!” I yell at my husband.
“Y/N!” He whips around angrily.
Tonks and Remus move aside, creating a clear path between me and my husband.
“I’m not even showing yet!” I defend.
“You’re pregnant!” Sirius reminds sharply.
Tonks gasps, her hand flying up to her mouth. Remus whispers something to her. Probably along the lines of ‘sorry, I couldn’t tell you.’
“And you’re an idiot,” I fire back, stifling my laughter. “Looks like we both have a gamble!”
Sirius rushes down the hall to me and cups my face in his hands pleadingly. “I can’t lose you.”
“Then you should be able to understand why I can’t let you go without me,” I claim quietly, placing my hands over his. “I can’t wait here doing nothing when I know you’re out there risking your life! It’s not just your life Sirius, it’s both of ours. It’s always you and me.”
He exhales deeply, lowering his head as he struggles with the internal debate going through his mind. “Okay,” he mumbles reluctantly. Rushing, he plants a kiss on my lips and takes my hand.
 _____________________________
I sprint to huddle behind a bolder with Ginny beside me. She’s brilliant, I’ll give her that. Granted, I could already tell after hearing her subtle comments at dinner that never failed to make me laugh.
Remus runs into view with Hermione and I take the opportunity to hand over Ginny. “Remus, watch them!”
“Y/N! Where are you going?!” He shouts, leaving the girls hidden to stop me.
“I have to help my husband and godson! I can’t just stand there!” I argue, marching aww.
“No!” He grabs my wrist and yanks me down behind a rock. “Sirius wouldn’t want you to!”
“Since when have I ever listened to him?!” I move to stand.
Remus yanks me back down, much to my annoyance. “You have your child to think about!”
“I am thinking of them!” I hiss at my oldest friend. “I won’t let them grow up without a father!”
His eyes pour into mine, awestruck. It’s highly unlike me to argue with him or anyone who isn’t my husband I suppose. Taking the chance now that he’s a little more compliant, I rise to my feet. Sirius and Harry fight off Lucius on the giant boulder in the center of the room. I run to join them urgently.
“Avada kedavra!”
I halt upon hearing the horrific words echo in the room. My eyes scan the room for the source and I spot Bellatrix towering above the rest of us, a wickedly grin on her face. I follow her eyesight to the center, to my husband. He has an unfamiliar blank stare in his eyes as he peers at Harry. Out of my peripheral vision, Remus runs past me. Before he can reach the pair, Sirius slips away into the archway.
“No!” I scream at the top of my lungs. “No!” I cry.
Kingsley wraps his arms around me, keeping me back. I fight him off, aggressively. “Let go of me!”
“No, no don’t let her win!” He warns in my ear.
I wail as my legs give out on me and I slip to the ground. “No,” I cry toward the ceiling.
“Get her out of here!” Shouts Remus.
I hear Bellatrix’s laugh ringing throughout the room. Something in my snaps and my tears stop altogether. Kingsley reaches to apparate me home, but I snatch my wand off the ground beside me and runoff. I follow Bellatrix out into the crevice she escaped through.
“Y/N!” Everyone calls after me panicked.
“I killed Sirius Black!” The crazy lunatic repeats like a song as she skips through the Ministry. “I killed Sirius Black!”
“You raging bitch!” I yell as I shoot a spell her way and missing.
“Aw cousin-in-law coming to get me?!” She mocks, continuing her celebration.
“Crucio!”
Bellatrix falls to the floor with a yelp. I continue my spell, putting at much focus as I can into her. She flails on the tile in pain, screaming. I wonder if it reminds her of torture in Azkaban. I sure hope it does.
I ease up on the spell, lower my wand to her chest. Catching her breath, she peers at me terrified. As she should be because now I’m the raging bitch. She thinks she’s evil because she was filled with hate. Well, now I’m filled with hate!
Pointing my wand directly at her chest, I smile wickedly at the woman who killed my love. Just two words and everything will be set fair and square.
“Aw, afraid of me now?” I tease with a mocking pout.
“I don’t need a blood traitor feeling sorry for me!” She bites.
I snicker, amused by her pointless insults. Swiftly, I kneel down on the floor beside her, getting in her face. I point my wand at her chest and dig it into the skin intimidatingly. Then, I hit her where I’m certain it will hurt.
“You’ll never be anything more than just another loyal follower,” I remind her smoothly with a smile on my face. “He will never want you. You alone will never be enough for him. You can try everything in your power, but the Dark Lord will never love you.”
She pushes back against my wand. “How dare-”
I slap her hard, causing her face to snap to the side. “Tell me how it feels Bella! Tell me how it feels to be worth nothing in eyes of the person you love! Because I wouldn’t know that feeling! Because unlike you, the man I loved, loved me in return!”
“Go to Hell!” She screams in my face.
“I’ll see you there!” I laugh, leaping to my feet and ready to kill the bitch.
“No Y/N!” I hear Remus shout a distance away.
“What is this?” I hear a sly voice question directly behind me.
I glance over my shoulder to be met with Voldemort. Bellatrix laughs loudly.
“Y/N, it’s been too long,” he smiles wickedly. “You’ve grown up so much!” He pauses for a moment, then his eyes fall to my stomach. “And you’re with child, how wonderful.”
I remain silent, restraining myself from doing something rash. The Dark Lord slithers toward me with a smile. Remus and the others stay back, ready to intervene if necessary, but don’t want to cause anything detrimental.
“You know, it’s not too late to join my ranks,” Voldemort whispers to me as he circles me.
“Never,” I stand my ground, knowing it may cost my life.
“Pity, you have such potential,” he mutters disappointedly, starring into my eyes.
He stays for a moment and I can see the wheels turning in his mind. Reaching up, he brushes the back of his hand against my cheek. Then, he sighs and turns to walk away.
“Aren’t you gonna kill her?!” Bellatrix whines, following after him.
The Dark Lord halts and snaps his attention to her, “are you questioning me?!”
The sound of blasting fire as people arrive through the fireplaces signal Voldemort that he must depart. Voices erupt once they see him for themselves.
Voldemort looks to me. “The honor of being my right hand is always open to you, Y/N,” he purrs before disappearing into a cloud of broken glass.
I fall to my knees, utterly exhausted. Tears well up in my eyes and soon I feel arms around me. I glance to my side and Harry’s head rests on my shoulder. I turn to face him, wrapping my arms around him. His head falls to my lap and he wails. I lean over him, protecting him from the world as I’ve always done. I didn’t just lose a husband, he lost a godfather. The realization hits me hard, we’re each other’s only family now.

Muggle Love
Tumblr media
Pairing: Harry Potter x muggle!reader
Warnings: None
Requested: Yes! @oyasumimosura
Summary: You and Harry find out that you both come from the world of witches and Wizards during Order of the Phoenix
***
Harry had been your best friend for god knows how long until you eventually started dating. On some days, it seemed to be as though he was your only friend as you went to different schools.
Everyone had something unique about them, and you were just about to find out something Harry had kept from you over the years in just a matter of seconds. It all started while you were both hanging out together in the local park, sitting on the swings as you were helping Harry grieve over the lost of his friend the previous school year.
Just as Harry was sharing memories of his friend, the beautiful, yet sad moment had to be disruptive by his jackass cousin, Dudley Dursley. No matter how hard you’ve tried, it seemed that he, Dudley, found ways around to hurt and/or tease Harry.. even in the presence of his supposedly muggle girlfriend. Just as you always do in this situation, you held onto Harry’s hand to try and have him remain calm, but it all became too much, even for you, of Dudely’s rude teasing remarks he threw at Harry. He knew how to get under Harry’s skin as you started to feel Harry’s hands shake in almost red hot rage.
“Who’s Cedric? Is he your boyfriend?” Dudley sneered, mockingly.
Harry’s hand tore apart from yours as he stood up and angrily approached Dudley as he pulled something out of his pocket. When our watched Harry pulled something out of his pocket, you at first, thought it was a knife, but than recognized it as a Wizard’s wand.
“So..Harry’s just like me, except a wizard.” You thought to yourself.
———
You had sworn to secrecy to Harry you’d never tell anyone what you had witnessed with the unexpected visitors that fateful and almost fearful day.
As much as you almost hated to admit it, you felt sorry for Dudley after the whole thing happened. But the way you got through it, was you kept reminding yourself that was all in the past now and didn’t have to worry as it already had happened. At the same time, however, it wasn’t like he was already asking for it. Even though you now knew about Harry being a wizard, you still kept your own secret from him, you promised yourself to tell him when you felt the timing was right. But that timing had come earlier than you would have liked as for Bellatrix had somehow gotten her hands on you and dragged you back to Malfoy Manor and threw you in the dungeons as you where you would be waiting for your fate.
You had been taken not long after the death of Dumbledore; the headmaster of Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. While you were awaiting your fate in the cold dungeons, that’s where you had met Luna Lovegood and you befriended each other. All your access to magic had been confiscated and were almost powerless to make an escape attempt. This had left you with almost nothing, but the weapons you used was putting your heads together for ideas, plans to escape the very next time they open the dungeons. While you were doing your part in trying to find a way out of this mess, Harry and the gang were already on their way to rescue you. They didn’t know where you were exactly until they were brought to Malfoy Manor and was introduced to the dungeons.
Evil schemes echoed throughout the Manor and you would be lying if you had said it didn’t scare you because it did whenever the rumors had reached to you by one of Voldemort’s most loyal death eaters. Your heartbeat had picked up as soon as you heard footsteps coming towards the cell you were being kept in, thinking it was another follower, you maintained your distance as planned in order to make a run for freedom. Only this time, however, when you got a closer look and saw who it was they brought in, the plan slipped away from your mind as you realized it was Harry. Once they brought forth Harry and Ron, Harry immediately ran over to you, than he noticed you there accompanied by Luna Lovegood. Harry than engulfs you in his loving arms, whispering promises to never loose you like that again.
You were his absolute world and without you, his world would be shattered and he would be lost. Not only lost, but a lost soul yearning for his true love to be back by his side to where she truly belongs.
Of course, you’ve all escaped Malfoy Manor thanks to Dobby’s help and during that battle of your escape was when the fact of you being a witch rather than a muggle like Harry had thought you were had been revealed unto him when you used a spell to block ones killing curse directed at him. Much to your surprise, Harry wasn’t upset at all, he was just happy to have you back safely by his side. However, not everything was as they had seemed to be, as for escaping had come with a sacrifice that was almost too hard to accept.
As if losing one friend wasn’t hard enough for Harry already, escaping the manor you were held captive in took the life of Dobby and it was just as heartbreaking for you as it was for Harry. You both were doing your absolute best to move on forward with your lives as that would have been what Dobby had wanted for both of you.

Harry Potter girls are wicked because they are 1) different and 2) well written. Their main character traits aren’t being a girl. Aren’t being feminine or being a badass.
Hermione is nerdy and introverted and genuinely loves learning and is quite emotionally detached. It isn’t viewed as a flaw - it is her character. And her friends love her for it. Even though she isn’t perfect. She really isn’t.
Ginny is extroverted and popular, but she’s also a real badass, she’s also brave and sharp tongued but not in a boy attracting way, not in a bitchy way, she just doesn’t give a fuck what anyone thinks of her and can and will protect those who need it.
Luna is dreamy, detached, weird and lonely. She’s weird not in a “I’m not like other girls so boys like me”. She’s just weird and stays that way even though people bully her for that because even if it’s not as visible, Luna is as metal as Ginny. She is a good friend, but she has always been lonely because she is actually different from everyone she knows (and in her case it doesn’t sound cliché). That is a well written, deep, original character.
Cho isn’t just a love interest like in the movies. Cho is described as a great Ravenclaw seeker. Cho is brave and strong because she joins the Dumbledore’s army even despite her mom’s position. Neville is praised for the same thing in the end of the Philosopher’s stone. Cho may be a little jealous of Harry but imo it makes her even more real. She has flaws just like Ginny and Hermione and Luna. She mourns Cedric but doesn’t turn into depression like fucking Bella Swan. She fights because that’s what Cedric would do.
Tonks is easy going and fun and reckless and amazingly brave and a Hufflepuff. She is basically the only argument you need when arguing with Hufflepuff haters. She is so young and already an Auror. But she’s also not unrealistically badass. She’s super clumsy (and not in a I’m clumsy in everything but things that are supposed to look hot and attract attention). She told Harry that she almost failed an exam because of her clumsiness. And it still doesn’t stop her from being amazing.
Andromeda is an example of a good Slytherin. She is brave and cunning at the same time. She went against her family too. She lost her family too. She still fought Voldemort, no matter the cost. She lost her daughter and her husband and her sisters and brothers and cousins and parents. She lost everyone and still stayed with Teddy because Teddy needed love and support. She is strong as hell but that is quiet strength. Other character’s are praised for what she went through silently.
Molly is a mother of a big family. She doesn’t fight the war (until Hogwarts), she doesn’t go out on missions, she didn’t come to rescue Harry in the beginning of TDH, she didn’t come to the Ministry in TOoTP. She stayed at the Grimmaud place to cook dinner for the tired Aurors, to make that house at least a little comfortable, to take care of the wounded, to raise her children. And other children. She stayed there and watched her family risk themselves, get wounded, even get killed. Molly is strong as hell and she’s still feminine. She does the “woman’s” work that many YA heroines disregard. Does anyone dare to disrespect Molly? I bet your sweet ass they would never.
Molly kills Voldemort’s right hand after all.
Lily Potter is kind but fierce and brave. Lily Potter joined the Order at the age of 19. Lily Potter died at the age of 21 protecting her son. Lily Potter was incredibly smart, maybe not the Hermione way, but still. Lily Potter is very interesting and it’s super sad that she’s eventually downplayed to being Snape’s love interest. However, Lily doesn’t fuck around. The moment he disrespected her she stopped being his friend.
Even Bellatrix. She is a great villain. She isn’t even a love interest of the main evil guy. She is loyal to him, maybe she loved him, but those aren’t her only motives. Bella is legitimately mad and evil because of her family and her story and just because she’s a bad person. Bella enjoys making others suffer. Bella is proud. Bella is a good villain because she doesn’t chase beauty or power like most female villains do. She actually had a rare interest for a woman villain — she enjoyed hurting people. She is racist. But she’s also not the boss. She’s interesting and I love her despite her being evil.
Fleur Delacour is beautiful and elegant but she isn’t scared of Bill’s scars, she isn’t scared of the consequences that hiding Harry, Ron and Hermione might bring in TDH, she speaks her mind and fights when it’s needed. She may be gentle, she may be fantastically pretty, she may be annoyingly proud, but she’s one hell of a character. She has character, not just smarts and looks.
Lavanda Brown and Parvati Patil were both girly and loved gossip but fought bravely against Voldemort nonetheless. They are an example of how being girly doesn’t equal being weak or boring.
Rita Skeeter and Dolores Umbridge are both villains. But they aren’t for Voldemort. And they aren’t similar. JK managed not only to create various and interesting good heroines, she created Bellatrix Lestrange, Dolores Umbridge, Petunia Dursley and Rita Skeeter and gave them absolutely different personalities, motives, stories and looks. Not many authors have many female bad guys. Not many authors can make them this realistic.
JK Rowling writes amazing female characters.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Secret Marriage
Pairing: Sirius Black x reader
Summary: Reader and Sirius try to keep their marriage a secret, but it’s hard to keep secrets from Harry and the Order of the Phoenix.
Warnings: none
***
Keeping secrets from the Order was much more difficult than you and Sirius had anticipated. It was bad enough that you hadn’t invited any of them to your impromptu wedding, but you felt awful for keeping your marriage to Sirius a secret. The only person that had been invited was Dumbledore, and he had served as both the officiant and witness.
“Nobody can know that we’re married. It’s too much of a risk if one of us gets captured. I won’t have any death eaters touching a hair on your pretty little head because they know about us,” Sirius said, cupping your cheek and pressing a kiss to your forehead.
“Can’t we at least tell Harry? He’s your godson, and I’m sure he won’t tell anyone,” you replied.
“If he’s anything like his father, he’s terrible at keeping secrets,” Sirius said. You laughed and leaned into his chest.
“I wish they could’ve been there,” you muttered.
“Me too, love. But I’m sure they were watching, wherever they are.”
The first time that your marriage was almost discovered was your fault.
You had just returned to Grimmauld Place from a mission that left you awake for two days. It was second nature to put your wedding band on after you had showered, and you forgot entirely that you were wearing it when you went down to the kitchen for a snack. You smiled at Remus as you prepared yourself a cup of tea.
“Hey, Moony. Anything good in the paper for once?” you asked.
“The usual. More disappearances and deaths. Looks like Ireland’s quidditch team is doing better this year, though,” he replied.
“Sirius and I have a bet going. They better not win the season,” you said, raising your mug to your lips.
You didn’t understand why Remus was staring at your left hand until you looked at it yourself. He raised a knowing eyebrow as you slammed your mug down and tucked your hand behind your back.
“Something you’re not telling me, Y/N?” he asked.
“No! It’s just a promise ring, that’s all,” you replied.
“Glad that my wedding invitation wasn’t lost in the post,” Remus said, reopening the newspaper and leaning back in his chair. You sent him a guilty smile and made a mental note to look up a spell that could hide your ring while it was on your finger.
***
The second time that your marriage was almost discovered was Sirius’ fault.
Sirius was the best secret keeper you knew, even when he was drunk—you had complete confidence that whatever you told him, he would take it to the grave. But Sirius hadn’t been this drunk since Hogwarts.
Order parties were rare. The only time that every single member was able to be at headquarters at the same time was around the holidays. Even then, it was difficult to have a party with all members present—evil didn’t stop because St. Nicholas threatened coal. But for Sirius’ birthday, everyone decided that it could wait, even for just a few hours.
“I love you all so much!” Sirius yelled, his cheeks rosy as he went around to every member of the Order and gave them tight hugs. His mug of butterbeer sloshed dangerously, and even spilled down the backs of some people’s cloaks, but nobody seemed to mind all that much. Not even Moody, who simply laughed and clinked his flask against Sirius’ cup.
You smiled and leaned against the fireplace, watching Sirius run around like a child. It had been a while since you had seen him so happy and carefree. You glanced down at your left hand and your bare ring finger, and your smile slowly slipped. You knew why your marriage had to remain a secret, and had accepted the fact that it was to keep you and the people you loved safe. But a part of you wanted to be selfish, just this once, and yell from the rooftops that you were married to your best friend.
“Y/N! My love! Why so sad?” Sirius slurred. He placed his drink down clumsily on the mantle and wrapped his arms around your waist.
“I’m not sad,” you replied. Sirius squinted and ran his gaze across your face.
“Yes, you are. You’re doing that pouty thing I hate. I can’t have my wife sad on my birthday!” he exclaimed. You shushed him and put a finger over his lips as you glanced around the room—nobody seemed to have heard. Sirius giggled and kissed your fingertip, nipping at it playfully.
“Keep your voice down! I’m just sad because I wanted to wear my wedding ring tonight, that’s all,” you muttered.
“You can wear it later. That can be the only-”
You laughed and shoved Sirius’ face away from yours. He gave you a mischievous smile and turned dramatically to face the room.
“Attention, everyone! Like I said before, I love you all. You’re all very special to me, but…none of you are as special as my dear Y/N. She is the woman of my dreams, my other half, and the only person who somehow puts up with me. I don’t know how I convinced her to marry me!” he yelled. Your heart leapt into your throat as everyone began murmuring.
“Not yet!” you exclaimed, stepping up beside Sirius and looping your arm through his. “I’m very disappointed if that was your way of asking me to marry you, Sirius.”
“I thought I already did,” he mumbled. You watched the gears turn in his head, and then a crooked smile crossed his face.
“She will be my wife, friends! Don’t worry everyone, I plan on marrying Y/N. And you’ll all be invited to our wedding! Drinks all around!” Sirius announced, patting your hand.
“Cheers to that!” you exclaimed. Everyone raised their glasses, and you blew out a sigh of relief. Sirius was going to get an earful in the morning.
***
It was nobody’s fault when your marriage was finally discovered. You thought it was Sirius’, and if you asked him, it was Moody’s. In reality, it was both yours and Sirius’ fault for thinking that you could keep such a big secret from your family for so long.
The Order had made a breakthrough on the whereabouts of a death eater hideout. Harry had stumbled upon a broken-down mansion not far from the Weasley’s burrow while practicing his flying, and when he had flown closer to investigate, saw none other than the Malfoys apparating in. Sirius sent you a wink across the table as Harry told Moody and a few other Order members what he had seen.
“We need to scope it out. It’s most likely crawling with death eaters, important ones too if the Malfoys bothered to go there,” Moody said.
“There’s probably evidence lying around that we could collect while we’re at it,” Sirius suggested.
“Good point. It’s best if only one of you goes, so as not to draw attention and in case you need a quick getaway. It’ll be a standard reconnaissance mission, just to collect information until we’re ready to go in and fight. Y/N, you’re one of our best spies. Are you up for it?” Moody asked.
“Of course,” you replied.
“You’ll be in and out in no time. We just need to know a basic floorplan, how many death eaters they’ve got there at a time, if there are any patrols. You know the procedures. Maybe we can have you stake it out for the night to see if there are any patterns,” Moody explained.
“You’re really going to send her alone? You said it yourself, that place is probably full of death eaters. They’ll capture her if they find her,” Sirius said.
“Sirius,” you began.
“No, you’re not going alone. I’m going with you,” he insisted.
“You can’t go with her. This is a one-person job,” Moody said.
“We can ask Dumbledore to borrow James’ cloak. They won’t know I’m there,” Sirius suggested.
“No. I’m going alone,” you said. Sirius slammed his hand down on the table and clambered to his feet.
“Sit down, Sirius,” Moody hissed.
“I don’t want to sit down. Don’t send her, send me instead,” he replied, pacing back and forth.
“Y/N is one of our best at reconnaissance. There’s nobody else I trust for this job,” Moody said.
“There’s got to be. Can’t you bring someone else in, or go yourself?” Sirius spat.
“That’s enough!” you exclaimed. You rose from your chair and leaned your hands against the table. “I’m going on this mission, Sirius, whether you like it or not.”
“No, you’re not,” Sirius said.
“That’s not your choice to make, is it? Mad-Eye needs me on the mission, so I’m going. End of discussion. You don’t make decisions for me. You’re not in charge here, and you’re not my father!” you yelled.
“No, I’m only your husband!” Sirius roared.
The entire room went silent as you and Sirius started at each other over the table, chests heaving. His eyes were wide with worry and the realization that he had just revealed the secret that you had both spent months trying to keep. There was a sinking feeling in your gut as you pushed off from the table and crossed your arms. When Sirius spoke again, his voice cracked with an emotion you couldn’t quite place.
“Merlin, Y/N, you’re my wife. I just want to protect you. Maybe it’s selfish, but I care more about you than I do about this mission, or any of them. I need to be there so I can keep you safe. I won’t know what to do with myself if something happens to you,” he said.
“But we’ve been on missions without each other before,” you muttered.
“We weren’t married then. It was different, somehow. I vowed to protect you, Y/N. I won’t break my promise,” Sirius said.
“You’re married?” Harry asked. You tore your gaze away from Sirius’ and nodded down at Harry.
“We’ve been married for a few months. We had a quick ceremony, just us and Dumbledore. I’m sorry that we didn’t tell you, that we didn’t tell any of you, but we were afraid of what would happen if any of Voldemort’s followers found out,” you replied.
“Having a relationship with someone in the Order is dangerous enough, but being married? I didn’t want to run the risk of anyone capturing Y/N to get to me, or the other way around. My dear cousin Bellatrix has some vendetta against me, so I wanted to keep us all safe from her,” Sirius explained. He made his way around the table and stood next to you, entwining your fingers together.
“So, my invitation didn’t get lost in the post because I never got one? Ouch,” Remus said.
“We’re sorry, Moony. We wish you could’ve been there, we wanted you all to be-”
“Relax, I’m joking. This just means you have to throw a party now that we all know,” Remus interrupted.
“I like that idea,” Sirius said, clapping a hand to his friend’s shoulder.
“I’m sorry we didn’t tell you, Harry,” you muttered.
“Oh, I kinda figured. Sirius never shuts up about you, and I’ve caught him wearing his ring a few times. He’s a bad liar,” Harry replied.
“I used to be better in school. Ask McGonagall,” Sirius mumbled under his breath.
“Well, there’s no use in keeping our rings a secret anymore, then,” you said as you pulled out your wand and waved it over your left hand. Your wedding band appeared on your finger, and you twisted it with a smile. Sirius pulled his necklace out from under his shirt and opened it, pulling his wedding band off and slipping it onto his finger.
“Hey, I’ve seen that ring a dozen times! You said it was your brother’s!” Remus exclaimed.
“See? I’m still a good liar sometimes,” Sirius said, ruffling Harry’s hair.
“Not to ruin the moment, but I still need Y/N on that mission,” Moody said. Sirius opened his mouth to argue, but you put a hand on his chest to stop him. The light from the fireplace glimmered off your wedding band.
“I’ll be fine. Consider my ring my good luck charm,” you muttered. Sirius sighed and pressed a kiss to your forehead. You didn’t miss Harry and Remus making a face at each other out of the corner of your eye.
“I know you will. I’m sorry I overreacted. And told everyone our secret,” he said.
“That’s okay. You were bound to tell them at some point,” you replied.
“Me? I’m better at keeping secrets than you are!” Sirius exclaimed.
“Mate, you literally told us that you were married on your birthday, and Y/N had to cover for you,” Remus said.
“I was drunk,” Sirius argued.
“Sober Sirius is good at keeping secrets. Drunk Sirius, not so much,” you said.
“She’s right. Remember when you told the entire Gryffindor common room that James was in love with Lily before he had the chance to tell her himself?” Remus asked.
“I was drunk!” Sirius repeated.
“Exactly. I think we need to keep you away from the firewhiskey,” you replied.
“I second that,” Harry said. “You’re really affectionate when you’re drunk. I don’t think I’ve ever been hugged so much in my life.”
“Get used to it, Potter,” you muttered, pulling him into a tight hug. Harry sighed dramatically before melting into your embrace.
“Just so you know, I’m glad that he married you. I’d be proud to call you my godmother, if it’s okay,” he said. Tears stung your eyes as you pressed a kiss to the side of his head.
“That sounds wonderful.”

hey darling, eleventhboi here! i was just rereading your character analysis for tom, and i must say i agree with you on so many levels and it’s wonderful to see all my compicated thoughts about him written down wonderfully like you did!! but, i assume just like you, i can’t really understand his motives later in his life no matter how i try to look at it from different perspectives from time to time. but there is this one analysis by @thecarnivorousmuffinmeta -a controvertial but great one definitely- but i’m not so sure if i agree with that or not. if you’re up to answer; since we think quite alike, i wonder what’s your take on that one? you can just say ‘idk bro’, or make an explanation or not answer at all darling- it’s your call. lots of love!!
Hi!!
I love to ramble and especially about Tom Riddle, thank you so much for giving me the excuse. The analysis you linked is definitely a really good one, Carnivorous Muffin has a lot of interesting points on Tom's character.
Long post ahead!
Link to my five-part character analysis here, in which I have opinions about Tom Riddle.
A Second Attempt: Demystifying Voldemort the Villain
Tom Riddle has the potential to be an interesting villain, but unfortunately Lord Voldemort is a shallow, unmotivated and disorganised Hitler metaphor, right down to the claim that Hitler’s grandfather was Jewish neatly coinciding with Riddle being half-blood.
Now, this wouldn’t be so bad if he were Sheev Palpatine, but he’s not. The attempts to give his backstory depth in COS and HBP only serve to make him more frustrating, because Tom Riddle is an infinitely better character and villain than the not very scary bogeyman Voldemort, and this leads me in Part 5 to come to the same conclusion as @theoriginalcarnivorousmuffin’s starting point — Lord Voldemort as presented doesn’t make sense. Unlike Carnivorous Muffin, I didn’t offer a serious solution (other than Voldemort becoming some kind of immortal non-human or the actual Grim Reaper, which is very weird and a bit tongue-in-cheek).
I think, going chronologically, where Tom’s characterization starts to annoy me (see Part 3, where I explain why it doesn’t make sense given his criminal profile, psychological profile, style of the murder itself, or family history) is the murder of the Riddle family. So, I ended up here:
Point being, I think the patricide bit was just put in to make Tom sound more evil.
Although this isn’t mentioned in Carnivorous Muffin’s analysis, this is going to be relevant; because I think from here, Tom's characterization generally starts to go south.
Here's the premises of Carnivorous Muffin's argument:
We know very little about Tom Riddle or Voldemort
What we do know of Tom Riddle comes to us from suspect sources
I’m just going to go out there and start with the basis that Tom is not crazy
I'm going to look at (3), because I think it's the most important one, as (1) and (2) have ample support, as CM elaborates.
While crazy is one of those terms that makes less and less sense the more psychology papers you read (along with its shadow cousins, mad and insane), I think if I can distill the common-sense idea of 'craziness' into two things, it would be (A) irrationality and (B) psychosis, or a break with reality.
I'll tackle (B) first, because it's simpler.
Does Tom suffer from breaks with reality? Delusions?
We don't know, because unfortunately we never get to poke around in his head, but I wouldn't rule it out 100%. The guy does have an unexplained pathological fear of death that leads him to rip his soul seven times. This could be the result of a delusion.
Not only that, but sixteen-year-old Tom floats around the Chamber, telling Harry how wonderful and awesome he is, and how he's Lord Voldemort, the greatest sorcerer of all time. Now, we know he's not far off, but both this and his fear of death, although we don't have nearly enough data points, are enough to raise a few eyebrows IMO.
And then (A). Is Tom Riddle unable to reason?
Again in Part 3, I believe Tom knows right from wrong (especially in the case of murder).
Emphasis on the noble. A noble thing is worth doing; a thing worth doing is good. Ergo, Diary Tom believes in the concept of good (and perhaps, by extension, evil). In fact, this is the last time we will hear ‘moral duty’ reasoning out of Tom for reasons that will be discussed below. And what I find really interesting about this, is what it suggests about Tom’s internal state: he either doesn’t believe in right and wrong (because murder is wrong), or he does, and just doesn’t adhere to it.
The latter is more likely than you think: Here’s a conclusion from the linked paper (about young children, but still interesting) that I think could apply here: "In summary, a concern for relative advantage may prevent children from enacting their knowledge of fairness when actual resources are at stake.”
Furthermore, canon tells us that creating Horcruxes did not affect Voldemort's mental abilities.
Evidence #1
But here’s a weird thing Tom says in HBP:
“Yes, sir,” said Riddle. “What I don’t understand, though – just out of curiosity – I mean, would one Horcrux be much use? Can you only split your soul once? Wouldn’t it be better, make you stronger, to have your soul in more pieces, I mean, for instance, isn’t seven the most powerfully magical number, wouldn’t seven – ?”
Evidence #2
Although we think that such a destructive process must weaken Tom, even Dumbledore doesn’t seem to think that’s the case:
“Yes, I think so,” said Dumbledore. “Without his Horcruxes, Voldemort will be a mortal man with a maimed and diminished soul. Never forget, though, that while his soul may be damaged beyond repair, his brain and his magical powers remain intact. It will take uncommon skill and power to kill a wizard like Voldemort even without his Horcruxes.”
In summary, although Tom may or not suffer from delusions, I agree with something approximately close to (3):
3*. Neither Horcruxes nor genetics nor environment impaired Tom Riddle's mental faculties sufficiently that he was unable to reason effectively and rationally, moral or otherwise. The thing is, oftentimes rational people reason that it is rational to kill.
Now, onto the actual argument:
Of course, I will address things out of order.
CM: I’ve gone over this before, but I don’t believe Tom had minions early and I think he was effectively treated as a muggleborn (see here and here) until he took on the Voldemort persona many decades later. I’m hard pressed to believe someone as intelligent, angry, and proud as Tom Riddle would willingly believe and accept he was inferior to the likes of Abraxas Malfoy. More, even if he wished he was a halfblood, I think the evidence of him being muggleborn would be stacked too high against him to deny even to himself (and when he finds out it’s not true, he has maybe a month or so before he realized that he’s the bastard son of a squib).
Which is about identical to my assessment in Part 1 except for a single, but important point:
While of course, this does NOT excuse ANY of his actions, I find it vastly implausible that the likes of Malfoy, Mulciber, Carrow, etc… would have been welcoming in any way, shape or form to an assumed ‘Mudblood’ in scruffy secondhand robes from a London orphanage, and as such, indoctrinated him into his fanatic belief in blood-purity via antagonizing him.
...
In other terms, I think Tom was bullied for having dubious origins. That’s often the swiftest way to radicalize someone, and would have left Tom with a crippling sense of self-hatred that I don’t think he would have even picked up from the orphanage.
I think one of the reasons, perhaps, that our opinions differ, is that I believe Tom discovered very early that he was a Gaunt on his mother's side (first or second year at the latest). Why? Because in COS he says he's been searching for the Chamber for a long time, meaning one or more years, and that means that he's known he was descended from Salazar Slytherin for a while. But of course this is Math of Throwaway Villain Lines; your mileage may vary. So I believe this Gaunt heritage (see Part 2 where I discuss the Gaunt Ring) was something Tom became obsessed with and really clung to, and that at the same time, he developed a lot of resentment towards Riddle Senior (because that's about the only way to resolve the annoying patricide subplot). Plus, seeing as the Pure-blood Directory existed, it was just a matter of Tom finding Marvolo Gaunt's name in there.
There's a second reason I think Tom really does, if not outright hate Muggle-borns, consider them beneath him. It's this.
Tumblr media
While CM points out that this is Tom at a point of crisis, right now he's not actually fighting for survival. Right now, he's in control, and he's in control until Fawkes deus ex machina's Harry from dying of basilisk venom in Voldemort's most airtight and well-thought-out murder attempt.
Here's the shallow basis of why Tom does have at least contempt towards Muggle-borns (from Part 3, section on cognitive dissonance):
1. He believes murder is wrong. 2. He’s murdered someone. 3. We know that in order to successfully make a Horcrux, you can’t feel the guilt or remorse associated with your actions (or else you’ll end up healing your soul). 4. Tom has to rationalize his actions in order to not feel guilty.
Solution: Well, she's a Mudblood, so her life didn't matter. Or perhaps she even deserved to die.
Something like this, perhaps?
Salazar Slytherin is revered by my housemates, who I look up to -> Salazar Slytherin is good -> His ideals are good -> purging the school of Muggle-borns is good, plus it benefits me in that I get to make a Horcrux -> killing Myrtle Warren is good.
Now, do I think Tom is the #1 Muggle and Muggle-born hater in Britain? Uh, no. Not even close. But does Murder Justifiable, Mudblood Bad enter Tom's moral reasoning set? Yes. Definitely yes.
I'll summarise this post, where CM says that Tom opening the Chamber was basically an unplanned power trip with no end goal -- in their words, a mental breakdown.
CM: “Something” is releasing the basilisk, murdering all the roosters, and painting the walls in blood.
He watches the students run around in terror, feeling very important, very much like the Heir of Slytherin. LOOK, TOM IS IMPORTANT TOO!
And then someone dies and reality crashes back down.
Whenever writing pre-Voldemort Tom Riddle, we have to justify why:
(1) Tom does the Dumb Shit he does
(2) Tom does the Immoral Shit he does
(3) How TF he doesn't get caught doing the Dumb and Immoral Shit he does
Of course, me being me, I'll start with (3), in which case there's a major issue.
Namely, Dumbledore.
Tumblr media
Love the twinkly-eyed bastard or hate him, he's an extremely skilled Legilimens, and I don't like sixteen-year-old Tom's chances over an entire year. Maybe Tom avoids looking him in the eyes. Maybe he practises Occlumency. Maybe Dumbledore's having a major depressive episode that saps his magical abilities.
Even so, Dumbledore is onto Tom, and Tom knows that Dumbledore is onto him. Furthermore, out of the several people who were attacked, only one died, which means that all the victims but Myrtle saw the basilisk's reflection... perhaps someone with mind powers made sure that this happened?
That in itself is a hint that a lot of thought went into this; Tom intended to Petrify, not kill Muggle-borns for whatever reason.
(I have my own headcanons about Salazar as a toxic father figure who Tom tried to emulate/please but that's unfounded and just a personal headcanon.)
However, my why is pretty close to CM's. First off, like CM, I think that Tom Riddle hates the status quo in the wizarding world. And I don't know if fifth year is his breaking point, necessarily. I think Tom is just generally in a quagmire of emotional crisis and mental turmoil which the Horcruxes are very much part of and a metaphor for self-harm (see Part 2 and especially Part 4 for an in-depth discussion of institutionalised childcare).
I think Tom assumes that his Muggle father most likely died before he was born, which is why Merope named him after him. Tom hates his father because he’s learned pureblood supremacy from his fellow Slytherins, and covets the respect and power that would come with being pureblood himself as he’s sick of being mistaken for a Muggle-born (we’ve seen Dippet do it) and feels that he has to prove himself as the Heir of Slytherin by opening the CoS, having no proof of magical heritage. I don’t think he’s that stupid to go around flashing his Parseltongue, especially given Dumbledore’s response to it, and it doesn’t prove that he’s the Heir of Slytherin, anyway.
And eventually, I came to a similar conclusion as CM, albeit that I think a lot of careful planning went into the Chamber openings. After all, transporting a fifty foot basilisk discreetly and quickly is no small feat.
Seeing as the public doesn’t know that Lord Voldemort opened the Chamber of Secrets (and thus don’t know that he’s the Heir of Slytherin, either), I think Tom did it all for the good of his own ego, insecurity, and of course that self-harming behaviour turned outwards that we discussed before.
Getting back to the point.
Anyway. So Tom is a petty, self-hating yet egotistical adolescent murderer who has had blood purist ideology drilled into him and solidified by his own actions/solving his own cognitive dissonance, and hates that the world where he should belong discriminates against him for being a Muggle-born/low-class, bastard half-blood who has a pureblood imaginary alter ego he uses to cope (did I mention Lord Voldemort is one of Tom's maladaptive coping mechanisms?) somewhat reminiscent of Pecola's blue-eyed reflection in The Bluest Eye.
CM: Second, I never really bought Tom’s racism. It’s too convenient and too contradictory with his backstory.
So, I suppose the main thing we disagree on here is that I think it's plausible and quite likely that Tom both has a massive ego and is self-hating.
CM: And it’s just so convenient. All the people with the power, with the money, who are itching for a cause against a threat that doesn’t really exist believe in blood purity. Ergo, Voldemort shows up suddenly espousing over the top blood purity rhetoric (rhetoric that directly clashes with his “there is only power” philosophy at that).
Now, this I do agree with. It's convenient. Tom is a rational being, and purebloods have money. Why not tell the people what they want to hear? But that doesn't mean he doesn't agree with it, even a little.
Tom Riddle is an Ineffective Big Bad... Or Is He?
CM: For a guy who has had the entire country in the palm of his hands twice, one time taking it over in a bloodless coup, he’s really big on causing collateral damage and really small on actually doing the ruling thing.
The problem with the Hitler metaphor, and where it falls apart big-time, is that Hitler was a German nationalist.
Voldemort is...
His motive is to...
His intentions are to... kill all Mudbloods... but he doesn't try to kill all of them... or even most...
His goal is...
Uh...
Voldemort is not well-characterized. I don’t understand his motives, and the ones that I do understand are not compelling.
Not to die? Well, he’s already made several Horcruxes. Why not sit back and relax? Why start a war and risk himself?
JKR said that Voldemort’s great desire was to become all-powerful and eternal. But that’s… boring! It does little to tell us about Voldemort, other than that he’s a villain and a wannabe dictator.
Not only that, but as CM says, Voldemort is already the greatest Dark wizard of all time and has control of the government of Wizarding Britain. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Remember how I said patricide is when Tom Riddle stops making sense?
Yep.
First, Tom turns down several Ministry offers to work at Borgin and Burkes. CM posits that it's possible that the Ministry positions were not offered and Slughorn told Harry a fib perhaps; because although Dumbledore points out that after several years, Tom was able to use his job to get Hufflepuff's Cup and Slytherin's Locket, there was no guarantee that he would find anything. He just got lucky, because plot.
Like CM, I don't think it's plausible that Tom turned down government positions to work in a disreputable shop in Knockturn Alley; yet, I don't think Slughorn was lying. Perhaps, they were only temporary positions, refused to pay Tom enough to live on or at all, et cetera.
Sometime before 1970, Tom pays a visit to Dumbledore to apply for the Defence position, and ends up stashing the Diadem Horcrux, then cursing the position, because petty.
But herein lies the issue; no one who wants to take over the world becomes a teacher. They just don't.
And it's not the first time Tom asked to teach, that being immediately after graduation. He even seemed interested at the beginning of his sixth year during the Pensieve scene. Furthermore, I don't think Tom was seriously considering World Takeover while at Hogwarts. I think, because as Harry says, Tom and Harry share a first love = Hogwarts, he may possibly have been quite content to be the Defence professor??? Teaching was good enough for his equal in skill and intelligence (Dumbledore), so why not for Tom?
I just don't see how he would corrupt the youths further than they already are, what with the pureblood supremacy in Slytherin and the Horcrux and Dark magic books easily available in the library. There is nothing in the Voldemort Handbook that hasn't been done before. He simply, as CM points out, mines and refines blood purity ideas that are already there.
No. I think Tom, having left his shitty job, picked up a few pureblood wannabes using his new Lord Voldemort persona (like CM, I don't think the Knights of Walpurgis existed early on as Tom's followers. In my opinion, Tom got a bit of street cred in his last two years for claiming the Gaunt ring, but idk if it's enough to regard him as anything more than a curiosity given he ended up at Borgin and Burkes), and completed his seven-part soul, intends to sit back and relax at his favourite place in the entire world and be showered with respect, admiration, and Christmas cards, which is of course the sensible thing to do.
But... Tom has poor impulse control at times.
By at times I mean often.
Temper, temper, temper.
He jinxes the Defence position (which could have been a savvy move to make Order fighters ineffective, but it would also impact Death Eaters since they're drawing from the same pool), hides the Horcrux like he was intending, and storms out.
Why start a war?
CM: I believe Tom was systematically destroying the very foundations of the country through its core aristocratic families. Within a few short years Tom decimates the Black family, it goes from having five heirs to none, and while some of this isn’t Tom’s fault he does take care of quite a few of them. He brands Lucius for life, while Lucius rises high in politics he never escapes the stigma of being a known Death Eater and in the end cannot escape the consequences for his actions. The Malfoy family is very nearly destroyed by the end of the series, had Draco died in the Fiendfyre. The LeStrange family, presumably decimated as well.
I'm going to go way back in time here. One of the chronologically first things we learn about Tom is this:
"Billy Stubbs's rabbit. . . well, Tom said he didn't do it and I don't see how he could have done, but even so, it didn't hang itself from the rafters, did it?"
"I shouldn't think so, no," said Dumbledore quietly.
"But I'm jiggered if I know how he got up there to do it. All I know is he and Billy had argued the day before."
While some might point out that Mrs. Cole isn't the most reliable source, I actually really like this detail; because it tells us that Tom has a hell of a vindictive streak. When he feels he has been wronged; you'd better believe that there will be consequences.
And yes, Tom Riddle is a very smart guy, but I'm not sure if CM gives him a little too much credit here.
Yes, he has no particular love for the pureblood leaders of the not-free world, but this kind of long-term planning requires unparalleled chessmaster-ing that makes me go ehhhh, especially when said chessmaster gets outsmarted by his old teacher, a twenty-one-year-old Muggle-born, one of his very own Death Eaters, and his very own vendetta against a certain green-eyed teenager.
In fact, let's talk about Voldemort and Harry. He fails to kill a baby due to the Power Of Love (canon) or the Power Of Love Plus Lily Evans's Badass Invented Sacrifice Spell (headcanon) and ends up as a wraith for nine years.
And what does Voldemort do a year later, when presented with the options to (1) get the Philosopher's Stone and his body back or (2) kill Harry Potter even though at sixteen, Tom Riddle KNOWS about the sacrifice spell/power of love?
Yeah. Tries to kill Harry. Because to Tom, Harry is the Bogeyman, he is Fear, he is the Grim Reaper, he is Tom's destiny, he is Death.
Voldemort is terrified of him; he is the number-one priority.
Tom has poor impulse control. Someone who makes this kind of mistake can't do long-term planning like that, IMO.
CM: By the time we get to Harry Potter’s canon, it is now only a minority that are anti-muggleborn, and they’re perceived as raving lunatics. Nobody wants to be grouped with these people. Which, just goes to show, how much Voldemort rattles the wizarding world in a very small amount of time.
This is true, but I don't think it's by design in the least. I don't think Tom cares for the fate of Muggle-borns, or anyone but himself.
Exhibit A: Tom is a selfish prick.
Yes, sometimes Tom is rational. He is often rational.
But he is very, very far from infallible. It isn't because Tom is 'crazy.' We all do irrational things and act on emotion rather than thinking things through.
Hanging Billy's rabbit was not rational. Releasing the basilisk, though it required strategy and precision and attention to detail, was not rational. Killing Myrtle to make a Horcrux because he has a pathological fear of death was not rational. Killing the Riddles was not rational.
To reason that murder is rational, you have to be operating on very flawed logic, a very flawed worldview, or both.
When he is in pain, he wants everyone else to be in pain, too. When he is scared, he wants the world to share his nightmares of the Reaper coming to collect his soul.
In short, Tom's pattern of poor impulse control and terrible planning makes it hard for me to believe he could pull off CM's version of events. Sure, he'd like to knock everyone off their pedestal, but... I don't think it was his main concern.
Tom is a generally very frustrated person. That much, everyone can agree on.
What I can't fathom, is why start a war? It's an odd style of revenge.
Here's what CM suggests:
CM: Given the results we see, that more than any others it seems to be the purebloods and often Tom’s own followers that suffer colossal losses, I think Tom’s actions are, in part, a means of vengeance against the entire damn wizarding world (but especially the purebloods).
Who the hell is Lord Voldemort, anyway?
But I must wonder if Lord Voldemort, with his yew-and-phoenix wand (which carries heavy symbolism of immortality and rebirth) and almost deified figure is meant to be a personification of Death himself? His name, Lord Voldemort, is a shade close to Lord Death.
In Part 5, I come to the amusing conclusion that Voldemort is Persephone. Deal with it.
But in all seriousness, I think Lord Voldemort is originally Tom's private coping mechanism/alter ego invented while at Hogwarts -- the greatest sorcerer of all time, a foreign Dark Lord who looks down upon the likes of Abraxas Malfoy.
Here's how it might have went down.
Once he's sufficiently changed his appearance, he decides to take the Voldemort persona out for a spin with the pureblood crowd, flaunts his charm and leadership skills, and chats his blood purity bullshit.
And they eat it up. Voldemort is a hit.
So, once he's turned down from the Defence position, perhaps Tom decides to see just how far he can go with this. How much he can humiliate and enslave these people who treated him like scum.
His life is meaningless. He's going to live forever, but the world is worthless and he hates everything and everyone in it. He installs a puppet minister, because he can't be bothered, he has no interest in ruling the damn world anyway. World Takeover was never the plan.
In fact, Tom doesn't have a plan.
CM: He makes fools of these people, brands them as his slaves, and has them participate in the most over the top ridiculous rituals (the cloaks, the masks, the entire theatrics of it feels like Tom got drunk one night and planned this whole thing out).
And so, I think Voldemort's not the Big Bad, but nor is he an iconoclastic, cloak-and-dagger chessmaster revolutionary. However, the fame, the veneer of being the Big Bad goes to his head, and not really having an identity of his own, I think Tom starts to believe his own hype, right up until the point where he gets killed by a fifteen-month-old.
CM: Basically, I think by the time the series begins Tom is fueled by a nihilist rage that knows no bounds. But dammit all, the wizarding world is going to burn.
Yeah. I'm still not satisfied and Voldemort's motives are unclear. But this is probably the closest you can get.

Hi! I’m a big fan of your work!! I am looking for more but unfortunately I feel like I have read all yhe good Harry Potter docs on Ao3. Do you have any recs?
Sorry for the delay, I just know that whenever I make rec list it usually ends up taking a while.
With that, Harry Potter fics are a big genre. Just saying Harry Potter in general really isn’t that specific to me so this is across genres/character focuses/you name it.
Also, as usual, I’ve been on fanfiction longer and have amassed more favorites there. Some of these are cross posted to Ao3. Similarly, a lot are unfinished, this personally doesn’t bother me but if it bothers you take heed.
Also, you’ll see my embarrassing obsession with Tom Riddle. So, heads up for that.
Stepbrother (Tom Riddle/Hermione Granger, period piece, in which the two remind me a lot of Nabokov)
Cat Among the Pigeons (Tom Riddle/Lily Evans, Psycho-Pass Detective AU, in which I am a beta actually so my promoting this goes without saying)
Til Death Do Us Part (Tom Riddle/Harry Potter, Voldemort wins AU, which for me does very well with the concept of immortality and what exactly Tom is supposed to do after he wins)
This Tangle of Thorns (Tom Riddle/Hermione Granger, modern AH AU, a full on Nabokov inspired fic which I enjoy because Lolita)
Delusional (Tom Riddle/Harry Potter, sort of. Harry wins the war, goes crazy, checks into a mental hospital. Or he’s not crazy and Voldemort is as unkillable as Palpatine.)
Harry Potter and the Natural 20 (OC insert, D&D inspired, shameless crack. I mostly enjoy the beginning of this but it makes me laugh enough to recommend.)
A Hairy Business (AU, Harry is a deer, he is literally a deer, that’s it. It’s funny.)
Animus, Anima (Tom Riddle/Harry Potter, Harry travels back in time, gets stuck in Tom Riddle’s brain, and it turns out Harry’s responsible for every terrible thing that ever happened. This one was squicky even for me, very well done, but strap in.)
Addendum, He is Also a Liar (Tom Riddle/Hermione Granger, Tom has an inexplicable ability to travel to the future, but only to this random little girl Hermione Granger)
Framed & Fractured (Tom Riddle/Harry Potter, Harry gets stuck in an evil painting back in time. Tom is creepy as usual.)
Trying for Eden (Tom Riddle/Harry Potter, Harry travels back in time to lecture Tom into morality. It doesn’t work.)
Magical Mirrors (Luna Lovegood and Severus Snape, Luna and Snape stumble on the Mirror of Erised at the same time and strike up a conversation)
Aphelion (Hermione Granger/Loki, MCU crossover, Hermione and Loki strike up the world’s weirdest toxic friendship when Hermione’s young and attending Hogwarts, this leads terrible places as Loki slides into madness and despair)
Wandering Souls (Luna Lovegood and The Undertaker, Black Butler crossover, Luna meets and strikes up a conversation with the Undertaker)
Of Lies Most Beautiful (Tom Riddle, Hunger Games crossover, Tom wins the Hunger Games becaues that’s what he does bitch)
In Wonderland (Tom Riddle/Harry Potter, Harry ends up back in the past and decides to raise Tom Riddle. This goes so poorly that the pair almost get eaten by eldritch gods multiple times.)
Rumpelstiltskin, Guess My Name (Tom Riddle/Harry Potter, Female Harry travels back in time and offers to save Merope’s life/get her Tom Riddle Sr. the non rapey way in return for her firstborn son. Merope thought Harry was joking. She wasn’t joking. In the sequel, also linked, Harry kills Morfin.)
The Eyes (Harry Potter, AU, turns out “the power he knows not” is the power humanity knows not, Harry’s ability to see eldritch abominations and cosmic gods and thus bring them far enough into our reality that they eat everything. And I mean everything.)
Mirror Mirror (Harry Potter, MCU crossover, Harry makes a huge mistake and stops Hulk in the middle of a rampage. This gets him abducted by octopus nazis.)
I See the Moon (Harry Potter and Bruce Banner, MCU crossover, Harry got brain damage from the war and wanders around the middle of nowhere. He runs into Bruce. He’s now Bruce’s only friend.)
You Will Be the Death of Me (Harry Potter and Tom Riddle, Despicable Me inspired, through a series of convoluted events Tom as the world’s worst father figure ends up raising Harry the sad adorable orphan.)
In Death, Standby (Tom Riddle/Harry Potter (sort of, the authro claims), Tom raises Harry, the only Tom raises Harry that I’ve seen done well because Tom is the world’s worst father. Harry thinks he’s a deformed snake until the age of three.)
Little Harry’s Mirkwood Adventure (Harry Potter and Dudley Dursley, Hobbit Crossover, one of the most Tolkien style crossovers I’ve actually seen and is very good)
A (Self-Imposed) Trap for a Fool (Ginny Weasley, turns out Harry Potter never existed, as in he’s a collective hallucination made up by the entire wizarding world)
McLaggen and From McLaggen with Love (McLaggen, a detective AU then a James Bond style adventure starring McLaggen, the greatest wizard who ever wizarded)
Tom Riddle’s Diary: on keeping devils in the summer (Tom Riddle, Tom Riddle’s antichrist orphan adventures involving exorcism and burning people alive)
and the fates sing (hold on, son) (Harry Potter, MCU crossover, Harry is the son of Loki and like all children of Loki he is a wretched and cursed thing)
A Faulty Master (Harry Potter and Itachi Uchiha, Naruto crossover, Itachi after the massacre of his family has a run in with a master of death Harry, who is a creepy creepy man)
Eye of Reason (Harry Potter/Jack Frost, Rise of the Guardians crossover, due to the mythos surrounding his life Harry ceases to be a man and becomes akin to a god)
Flowers for a Ghost (Luna Lovegood and Itachi Uchiha, Naruto Crossover, Luna befriends a blind ghost)
Third Time’s the Charm (Harry Potter, MCU crossover, Bruce Banner keeps trying to kill himself and MoD Harry is there to have himself a real good day)
Blind Faith (Bellatrix LeStrange/Tom Riddle, canon compliant, an in depth look at Bellatrix from the escape of Azkaban onward)
Cocktail Time (Rita Skeeter and Gilderoy Lockhart, Rita does an expose and autobiography detailing the descent of Gilderoy Lockhart and how he became what he became)
Fantastic Elves and Where to Find Them (Harry Potter, canon divergent AU, Harry thinks he’s an elf. That’s it.)
The Twine Bracelet (Colin Creevy, a look at Colin’s death)
Legal Alien (Harry Potter, MCU crossover, Harry visits New York and an alien invasion breaks out. Culminates with the best, dumb, joke.)

Deadheads (Harry Potter/Godric Gryffindor, a romantic comedy of a kind, culminating in the best dumbest joke)
Give and Take (Tom Riddle/Hermione Granger, Hermione tries to outwit Tom, it ends in despair)

Harry and Tom: Parents, Love and Death
Ever since I read re-read HBP earlier this month, I wanted to explore parental rejection/abandonment as concepts related to Voldemort and his subsequent relationship with death vs Harry's. It was also sparked off by Ralph Fiennes saying he wanted to play Voldemort as a very "human evil" with "rage against the world" as opposed to an idea of evil. Fiennes also noted that when his nephew took the role of young Voldemort, he sensed a "loneliness" about him and he wanted to be able to play that. So to tap into the humanity of Voldemort, I wanted to chart his idea of his parents vs Harry's.
Tumblr media
Infancy
Voldemort's mother died an hour after she gave birth to him. His father obviously neither knew nor cared what happened to him. The child who is born is essentially abandoned and rejected by both his parents. In stark contrast, Harry spends a year fiercely loved not only by his parents who died for him, but their friends too. All of this affects your brain development.
At age 11
While Voldemort is conscious of his powers and has, for his age, immense control over them, Harry is usually on spot for accidental magic. Voldemort shows instincts for power, control, and uses his powers to bully and terrify other kids in orphanage. He has no trouble believing he is "special". Harry, on the other hand, is almost always using powers for self preservation and quite accidentally. Aunt Petunia gave him a bad haircut? Hair grows back. Aunt Petunia giving him a horrible jumper? It magically shrinks until it no longer fits him. Dudley chasing him? He is somehow on the school roof. Dudley elbows him aside in zoo? The glass vanishes and boa constrictor is free. In fact, I believe Harry's instinct for fighting his way out of tight corners, as Snape puts it, comes from here - a decade of escaping or hiding from his cousin, his uncle, and being quick to react to protect himself (because no one else will). Therefore, Voldemort's response to his environment is to seek wider control, while Harry's is for simple self preservation. Harry, of course, can't believe he is a wizard so quickly.
Tumblr media
Belonging and Friends
Harry points out in DH that Voldemort would have seen having an account in Gringotts as a "symbol of belonging to wizarding world". This is something Voldemort covets.Him coveting trophies with magical histories and hiding them in places like this is a sign he understands desire. His own personal history is a vast disappointment, so he will create his own. Again, in contrast, Harry's sense of belonging is validated with the gold his parents left him. They both think of Hogwarts as home. Harry immediately makes friends, while Voldemort, a self hating bully, would attract people because of his immense power.
Fascination with parentage
Both Voldemort and Harry are fascinated with their parentage as teenagers. Harry's is, of course, fueled by the knowledge that his parents died protecting him whereas Voldemort has no idea about his father and believes his mother can't possibly be a witch because she died. Voldemort keeps his father's name, even though he dislikes it because it's too common, until he finds out that his father was a Muggle. This comes after a lot of painstaking search for his father in school records. After accepting that his father may not be the magical one, he finally looks into the ancestry of the woman he thought was weak - his mother. I think these are the beginnings of his relationship and understanding of death. As a child, I wonder if his mother's death constituted as rejection for him. I wonder if his fear of death and his painstaking steps for immortality is also a way to make himself different from his "weak" mother. Both of his parents disappointed him in different ways and Voldemort sought himself to make himself different from both : rejecting his father by shedding his name, playing up his mother's ancestry and rejecting his mother by attempting and "going further than anybody" for immortality.
Tumblr media
This is, again, huge contrast to Harry who is repeatedly shown to have longing to meet his dead parents. Harry has the knowledge he is loved, and Voldemort doesn't and I wonder if it contributes to his inability to understand it. Harry expresses desire for Resurrection Stone and scared Hermione and Ron with his talk of living with dead people. He has a guilty desire in Book 3 to hear his parents voices and he has to really get a grip on himself to learn Patronuses. He visits Mirror of Erised until Dumbledore stops him. He and Luna were also among the few who could hear voices beyond the Veil in Book 5 - and I wonder if it means that Harry believes he will see the people he loved again, or believes in a certain kind of afterlife. It seems to be why he was comforted by Luna at end of Book 5 saying that "they were just hiding, lurking out of sight, you heard them". This is why, when Harry drops the Resurrection Stone in the forest - his biggest longing and temptation - it's a huge deal for his character who is haunted by the loss of people he loves. Harry is not only accepting his own death, but also of the people who died defending and loving him the most. Voldemort rejects and fears death. It is an unknown he cannot control.
The fathers
Both Harry and Voldemort looked to their fathers first, as young orphans looking for a masculine ideal to emulate in life. However, when Harry's ideal of his father is dashed, Harry , through his father's friends and his father's own death to protect him, is able to reconcile with the idea that his father is imperfect. Most of Harry's father and mentor figures are put off their pedestals and Harry learns to reconcile their humanity with his own projections of them. In short, he grows up.
Tumblr media
Voldemort, on the other hand, learns more of his father from his uncle. And whatever version of the story his uncle told him, Voldemort seems to have believed. As he says to Harry in GOF - he believes his father abandoned his mother after he found out that she was a witch ("He doesn't like magic, my father"). Which, as we know, is not the true story. For Voldemort, however, coupled with his rage of being abandoned and rejected, his father essentially left him to rot in an orphanage. His Muggle ancestry is just one strike too many. He killed his father and his family, his source of rage and shame. He sheds his father's name, and becomes someone else, only known by his "special" magical lineage - cutting off that undesirable part of himself.
Tumblr media
Harry, in contrast, finds his father "inside himself" through his Patronus. ("Prongs rode again last night" as Dumbledore eloquently put it). Tom sought inanimate objects and notorious titles in wizarding history in order to reject his "ordinary" self and magnify his self importance while Harry sought connections in friends, and created found families with his father's friends to connect with his own personal history and move forward.
There are many other subjects to explore with two of them - especially with how they deal with a sense of aloneness, trust and secrecy. But this is a big enough post for now.

My Mother was locked up in Azkaban, so I was living with my Aunt, Uncle, and cousin. My cousin Draco wasn’t really a huge fan of me, but I wasn’t really a fan of him either. He was weak, no matter how hard he tried to hide it. He was too emotional and wasn’t Death Eater material. However that wasn’t my decision to make. The two of us went to Hogwarts together,  obviously getting placed in Slytherin. I ended up using the Malfoy name so no one knew who I really was. My Uncle was able to sneak letters into my Mother and she was delighted I was put in Slytherin. The first year was rather boring but that summer I got a job from Voldemort. I had to help the young Weasley girl open the Chamber of Secrets. My Uncle planted the book and then it was up to me to make sure the Chamber got opened. I was just the watcher to make sure Ginny wasn’t destered, but at the same time I couldn’t be caught. Lucky for me it was pretty simple, however Harry Potter ruined it and killed the basilisk!
I then had to gain Harry’s trust. It wasn’t easy to do, but I managed to do so by defending him and his disgusting friends against Draco. He hated it, but I assured him I hated it more. However it all paid off when I was invited to join their secret group in year five. Dumbledore’s Army was what they called themselves, how pathetic. Unbridge ended up catching us because of Cho Chang. Luckily they still trusted me and when Harry was going to the Ministry he asked me to join them. A small group of us made our way to London after a bit of trouble. When we made it to the Ministry we went straight to the Department of Mysteries. We walked down the hall, following Harry and he stopped just in front of a door at the end of the hall.
“This is it.” He said. We walked slowly to the door and walked in to see a dark room with shelves of orbs.
“Ninety-two, ninety-three, ninety-four, ninety-five.” Harry said and stopped in between the shelves.
“He should be here.” Harry said.
“Harry. It’s got your name on it.” Neville said looking at one of the orbs. everyone watched as Harry grabbed the orb.
“Harry.” Hermione said and looked down the hall. He pulled his gaze from the orb and looked down to see a Death Eater walking down towards us. I silently smirked and no one could see me since I was in the front. Harry moved in front of us and I quickly changed my expression to one of worry.
“Where’s Sirius?” Harry asked.
“You know, you really should learn to tell the difference between dreams…” Uncle Lucius said and removed his mask.
“And reality.” He finished.
“You saw only what the Dark Lord wanted you to see. Now, hand me the prophecy.” He said.
“If you do anything to us, I’ll break it.” Harry said and I tried my hardest to not roll my eyes. I heard my Mother’s laugh and I suppressed my smile.
“He knows how to play. Itty, bitty, baby. Potter.” She said and shook her head at me. It wasn’t time.
“Bellatrix Lestrange.”  said, stepping forward.
“Neville Longbottom, is it? How’s Mum and Dad?” Mum asked with a smirk.
“Better, now they're about to be avenged.” He replied and held up his wand. My Mother held her up and Uncle Lucius saw this could go bad quickly.
“Now, let’s everybody just calm down, shall we?” He said and they each lowered their wands.
“All we want is that prophecy.” He said.
“Why did Voldemort need me to come and get this?” Harry asked and I sneered slightly.
“You dare speak his name? You filthy half blood!” My mother shouted.
“It’s alright. He’s just a curious lad, aren’t you? Prophecies can only be retrieved by those about whom they are made. Which is lucky for you, really. Haven’t you always wondered the reason for the connection between you and the Dark Lord? Why he was unable to kill you when you were just an infant? Don’t you want to know the secret of your scar? All the answers are there, Potter, in your hand. All you have to do is give it to me. Then I can show you everything.” Uncle said, holding his hand out.
“I’ve waited fourteen years.” Harry said.
“I know.” Uncle said, looking as though he cared.
“I guess I can wait a little longer. Now! Stupefy!” Harry said. Everyone did the same and then ran. We ended up getting separated and my Mother found me. She grabbed me and pulled me along with her. Luckily no one saw.
“Where’s Y/N?” I heard Harry ask.
“They must have gotten her.” Neville said with a nervous tone. I smirked.
“Get back to the door!” Harry shouted and I heard them running.
“What do I do, Mother?” I asked.
“Just wait for the right moment.” She said and took me with her to follow them. We followed them into a new room and while the chaos was going on my Mother hid me in a doorway. I had to stay there until it was the right moment.
“Did you truly believe, or were you truly naive enough to think that children stood a chance against us?” Uncle asked and I stifled my laugh.
“I’ll make this simple for you, Potter. Give me the prophecy now, or watch your friends die.” He said.
“Don’t give it to him, Harry!” Neville shouted, but my Mother hushed him. I saw a white light appear and glanced around confused.
“Get away from my godson.” Sirius Black said punched my Uncle. Other white lights came and a fight started. I wanted to join, but my Mother gave me a sign to stay hidden. My Uncle was in trouble and my Mother had made it to me. I knew it was my time.
“Avada Kedavra!” I shouted and aimed it at Sirius. My Mother and I laughed as he fell back into the archway and disappeared.
“No! No!” Harry cried and I laughed harder. My Mother and I smirked at him as we ran off.
“I killed Sirius Black!” I laughed as I heard Harry running after us.
“You coming to get me?” I teased.
“Crucio!” Harry shouted and hit me. I screamed as I fell to the ground and Harry pointed his wand at me. My Mother escaped through the fireplace so I was alone. I looked at him with fake sadness.
“You’ve got to mean it, Harry. She killed him. She deserves it.” I heard the Dark Lord say and I looked up shocked and worried.
“You know the spell, Harry.” He said and he appeared behind Harry. I started laughing and smiling.
“Do it!” He said, but Harry turned around and knocked his wand from him.
“So weak.” He sneered. Dumbledore appeared and a fight started, giving me the perfect moment to escape. I made it to Malfoy Manor and my Mother greeted me with a wicked smile.
“Did I do well, Mother?” I asked with the same smirk.
“You did dear, the Dark Lord will be proud.” She said and my smile grew. The two of us gave an evil cackle and I knew the Dark Lord will rise to power once again.

Anon finally figured out The Definitive Answer for why so many people worship Bakugo, because there's a blog post by lovecrafts-iranon where, refreshingly, he actually comes right out and SAYS the reason why fandoms worship assholes: he thinks Dudley should have been Harry Potter's protagonist instead of Potter himself, because "good people doing good things are a boring snooze, while cruel and vicious people are entertaining." So he, and others like him, judge morality by "what entertains me".
Wow. I found that Dudley post, and it has SO MANY notes, and NOT EVEN ONE OF THEM IS SOMEONE DISAGREEING. How is that possible?
But I'd like to take a moment to look at this post in more (i.e. WAY TOO MUCH) depth. With pull quotes!
There is so much potential for growth, and at a nice slow pace because he would need to be dragged kicking and screaming every step of the way and have several reversions.
I guess it's true that he'd have to go through a lot more radical change than Harry did. And that would definitely be interesting to see unfurl, in a fashion. But Harry has to learn self-confidence, learn to cope with death (in the sense that he has to process it for the first time), learn to accept the things he can't change... all the things that people in the targeted demographic age of the readership are simultaneously dealing with. Dudley, on the other hand, doesn't have any reason to learn most of that stuff. He's only relatable to readers who are also massive assholes. Dudley's already overconfident - he's full of himself, and him being told that he's basically the Chosen One will only make it much worse. Will he have to cope with death? I mean, maybe someday. But we start with him only caring about himself, so it's unlikely he'd be too terribly affected if someone died in front of him. That would require him to care about someone else. And learning to accept that he can't change everything is something he'd probably struggle with in a semi-interesting fashion, but do you want to watch a spoiled brat who believes he can scream until he gets his way FINALLY start to learn that maybe he should stop screaming and start facing facts? Shit, that just sounds like modern politics. And coping with people who can't face reality is intolerable and infuriating.
Magic, aside from being not real, is a special kind of repulsive evil [to him]. Merely mentioning magic is the only thing that can temporarily revoke his Specialest Boy status.
I think the author is stating that this is a thing that's true of Dudley in the existing novels? Maybe I'm misunderstanding, and this is something that the author of the post wants to introduce into their AU fanfic. If it's the former, however, then I want to point out that there's no evidence that Dudley held any opinions at all on magic before Harry was declared a wizard. His parents sure did, but they never spoke of magic and refused to acknowledge it, so they naturally never said a word to Dudley about it.
So Dudley actually has no reason to be repulsed by the notion of being a wizard. In all likelihood, he'd be overjoyed to be told that he's a super-powered being of importance who everyone in the magical world has heard about. He'd probably want everybody to genuflect when he entered every room from then on. (I am assuming that Dudley must still be the one who has to eventually defeat Voldemort according to prophecy, but I guess he wouldn't be "The Boy Who Lived." His parents were obviously never killed; the fact that they raised him a certain way is what defines his character. He'd need some other kind of legend to cause his fame.)
Harry would never cause problems on purpose, while Dudley would never stop doing so at Hogwarts!
A character who is actively the source of all the trouble they're in isn't remotely sympathetic; I root AGAINST that kind of character. I want LESS of them. I want them to lose.
That's actually part of why I hated the new Snake Eyes movie — every bad thing that happens can logically be laid at Henry "Snake Eyes" Golding's own [probably gorgeous] feet. I'm not rooting for someone like that.
Harry gets to experience friendship and acceptance for the first time, snooze, while Dudley would have to face lack of friendship and rejection for the first time (there is nobody who wouldn't be put off by 'hates magic' even if they were fine with the rest of his personality)! Now that's fascinating!
I still think seeing a lonely boy with no sense of self-worth make his first friends is interesting. But I admit that Dudley facing rejection and lack of friendship for the first time DOES sound fascinating. The author has got me there.
And imagine him going home for Christmas break loudly announcing how happy he is to get away from all those awful wizards only to find out his parents treat him much differently now, their love having been completely conditional all along.
Would it be, though? I guess this is up to the perception of the author, but I kind of imagine Vernon and Petunia taking it as a personal victory if their own spawn is declared the special Chosen One. Their kid being a powerful wizard known around the world, and Lily's kid being no one in particular? They'd visit Lily's grave for the first time ever just so they could dance on it.
I could go on and on. I remember looking to see if there was any Dudley goes to Hogwarts fic as a kid and there was one popular one, but it let Harry go too (boo, the realization there might be something wrong with how his adopted brother is being treated back at home should be a shocking revelation to him), let Dudley become too nice too fast (it should be a long, drawn out process where he never gives an inch he doesn't absolutely have to!) and was too easy on him (characters suffering is good).
Author is assuming that Dudley - now christened a mighty wizard of destiny, the literal Chosen One - would actually perceive of there being something wrong with how his lowly muggle cousin was treated. I'd say: Highly doubtful. He'd just continue to be an asshole about it.
And the longer you drag out an asshole getting redeemed, the more I'm going to feel like "Well I don't fucking care if they get redeemed by this point; they've had every possible chance and every possible piece of evidence thrown at them, and they chose to remain an asshole, so fuck them. They deserve nothing."
At least the author wants Dudley to suffer. Not that I agree with the notion that characters suffering is automatically good, but asshole characters DO often deserve that shit.
BOTTOM LINE: I... just... I guess I shouldn't be surprised that people would actually WANT to focus on horrible assholes? That people want those fuckers to be the heroes instead of actually decent human beings? Because there are so many awful people in the world, so I guess it must be relatable enough for them. But dammit, I'm still surprised.
No, no, no. FUCK no. Being an asshole does not inherently make someone interesting; it just makes them an asshole. They deserve to be punished, not celebrated. They might still be interesting as an antagonist, but I'm sure as hell not going to root for them. And if you're going to insist on spending valuable focus time on these characters, you'd better at least be acknowledging that they are the VILLAIN of the story.
Which is honestly a more logical role for Dudley anyway. If Voldemort told Dudley that he's an exceptional being and that the inferior muggles else should be made to serve at his feet? Dudley would totally go for that. He'd become the whiniest, brattiest Death Eater.
Besides, Dudley is a particularly weird choice for their post, because he's NOT interesting! Not even as an antagonist! Dudley only exists as a one-note plot device. He deserves no attention.

                               Mattheo Riddle
(Mentions of Torture, Death, Anorexia, and Betrayal)
Who knew. I mean I lost my dad, and the only person actually that actually comforted me was close to the person that murdered my father. Crazy, thought we were supposed to be the good guys.
You may be wondering what happened, or who the good guys are, and who killed my dad.
I was apart of the order, was. They were or are the good guys, the people that don't want Voldemort to win, that want their pretty little world to stay in perfect shape. And Bellatrix Lestrange killed my father. My boyfriends family friend killed my father, I saw it happen. I witnessed my fathers soul leave his body.
" Davina, hurry up! " Harry yelled, sending yet another spell at the death eaters, until a big fog took over, and all of us were now in the arms of a death eater.
Sadly, Crabbe's father was gripping onto me, he really did get his god awful smell from his father.
I couldn't hear exactly what was happening til my father yelled a spell at Crabbe's father, who threw me into my fathers arms.
" are you okay darling? " he yelled over the noise, I nodded and hugged him. After my mother passing away, he was all I had left, I was never close with Lupin cause he was always focused on the potters.
We heard more yelling and looked over, Harry was yelling at Bellatrix, and of course, of course! My father had to go help him, not once did he ever choose me over the 'chosen' one.
I looked over at Mattheo who was staring at me, as he held onto Luna Lovegood. Hermione was struggling in the arms of a death eater, and Ron just gave up. I was trembling as I watched my father get in front the Potter boy.
Bellatrix threw spell after spell at my father, completely missing or getting rejected. My father was a good guy, he didn't throw a spell at his own cousin, though she was throwing spells at her own cousin. My father was the only true good guy in the order. Other than Dobby.
He messed up, the blocking spell. My father messed up the blocking spell, he had been teaching me since I got my magic abilities. He looked at Harry, as his soul left his body, then at me. He mouthed the words 'I'm sorry' then died.
My father died protecting a Potter, just like he spent so many years in Azkaban for the Potter's. For something he never did, and never would do.
I wish I could have been like him, giving up my whole life for friends, but no. They were not my true friends.
When we got my to Hogwarts, sadness took over the school.
Lupin, Nymphadora, Dumbledore, McGonagall, Ron, Hermione. All of these people were supposed to comfort me too. I lost my father, he was my FATHER. But where was my comfort? The Potter boy wasn't even related to my father. My time with my father got cut short yet AGAIN by a Potter.
I sat on a windowsill, crying, watching everyone I know and cared for comfort a boy who lost someone he had just met only a year or two before. He was always my father.
I stared at them in agony.
I was alone now,  for good.
They had taken my father away. AGAIN.
My father had chosen him over me, AGAIN.
I stared at them, with tears falling down my face.
" funny isn't it? " a dark voice said down the hall, making me jump. I looked over and saw the boy with scars falling all over his face.
" I mean he was your father correct? Why are they comforting the Potter boy? Because he lost his god father? " the boy asked again, coming close towards me.
Mattheo, Voldemort's next of kin.
" you know, your father was the last one we wanted to kill, we normally don't aim for killing family, unless they deserve it. "  he said sitting down next to me.
I scooted away, feeling bile boil in my stomach. " I mean he was canoodling with the enemy, but here I am sitting by one. You are the enemy right? " he asked, pulling a cigarette out, then mumbling Incendio, lighting it.
" I mean they are the reason your father is dead. And now they aren't even here to put back the pieces they destroyed. " he spoke lowly, blowing smoke out.
I looked at the Scarfaced boy, and walked away, towards my dorm, slamming the door.
Over the next two weeks, I didn't leave my room, I ignored Luna, and ignored hermione who somehow found out the password to the hufflepuff dorm, and ignored everyone that tried to comfort me days after my fathers death.
The words of the riddle boy playing over and over in my head.
" I mean they are the reason your father is dead. And now they aren't even here to put back the pieces they destroyed. "
" I mean they are the reason your father is dead. And now they aren't even here to put back the pieces they destroyed. "
Again
" I mean they are the reason your father is dead. And now they aren't even here to put back the pieces they destroyed. "
Again
" I mean they are the reason your father is dead. And now they aren't even here to put back the pieces they destroyed. "
I couldn't deny that what he was saying was true, but I didn't know what to do.
When I finally decided to leave my room, I could barely walk. My ribs were sticking out of my robes, and my arms were frail. I hadn't eaten only showered, slept and cried.
" davina hi how are y- " Hermione started as I walked by, but I shook my head no and continued walking towards the Slytherin table where Mattheo sat with his friends.
Hermione, Ron and Harry stared at me as I sat down with the evil boy and his friends.
" glad you decided to join us. " he whispered, smirking. " Now eat. You need to have some meat on your bones. "  he said, pushing a plate with a LOT of food towards me
I smiled at him, and listened to he and his friends talk about random things.
Who knew the dark lord's son, actually had a social life.
-
Now, we're here. Bellatrix was actually broken up about killing my father, and she took me in. Mattheo, though he was quite difficult, he helped me through it. Gave me nutrition spells to keep me strong when I couldn't hold down food, and Voldemort. Voldemort was evil, but he welcomed me with open arms.
" Make them suffer the way I suffered for the last 15 years! " I yelled at the table, slamming my hands down. Making the death eaters cheer and clap their hands.
I pulled my sleeves up as we went over the plan of killing Harry, and taking down the order. And I glanced at the tattoo that laid upon my forearms
I became their insight after I got the dark mark, told them what exactly the order planned to do. They had no idea, we acted as if everything had been normal, other than me ditching the Hufflepuff house at lunch.
" Darling, your aunt would like you to go home tonight " Mattheo said, kissing my temple
I nodded, and stared at the ceiling that showed us the dark clouds.
My father came to my mind again, and I laid my head on Mattheo's chest.
" you miss him? " he asked me, stroking my hair. I nodded, " I wonder if he's disappointed in me. He believed in and put in so much to the Order. " I whispered, making the boy nod.
" yeah he did. But where were they for you when you needed someone? Someone to lean your head on? Davina, my love. I know we aren't the best people, I know we used to kill innocent people, but I'm in it for you. You chose us because you needed us. We've been here for you for the past 2 years, I'm not sure where we would be without you. " he said, making me grin.
" I love you Theo. " I said, pecking his lips. He grinned, and kissed me back then pulled me back to laying on his chest.
-
" We did everything for you Davina! " Hermione yelled, her nappy hair blowing over her face from the wind.
I laughed, shaking my head. " My father died that day. MY FATHER! HE WAS MY FATHER. I was continuously stepped on. My father was used as bait, he was used as a sheild. You people treated me like SHIT and ignored me whenever I lost my FATHER! " I yelled with venom, making Hermione and Harry begin to slowly walk towards me.
" Davina, we can help you now... you've been brainwashed you're even shacking up with Sirius' murderer. " I rolled my eyes and looked back to Bellatrix who sent me a smirk and nodded.
" say it Potter CALL HIM MY DAD. Admit that he was more important to me. " I yelled backing up and grabbing onto Mattheo's hand.
One...
" Davina he was important to us all. " Harry yelled, the wind getting harsher.
Two...
" You don't want to admit it? Fine then. " I said, smirking.
Three...
" AVADA KEDAVRA " I yelled, the red light hitting the boy, and Mattheo apparated me, my aunt, Draco and Lucius back to the Malfoy manor.
" you just did what the dark lord has been trying to do for years darling. " Bellatrix said, smiling sadisticly.
" Goodjob my love. " Mattheo whispered, kissing my temple.
" The dark lord would like to see you Davina. " Lucius said, opening the door for Mattheo and I.
" Davina Black. You just set up the next 5 years for us. You got rid of the last Potter, and now the order is next. " Voldemort spoke, the other death eaters keeping their heads down.
I nodded, smiling. I finally got rid of the person that kept me from my father for the past 15 years.
" they tried to show me sorrow, show me they cared. They were faking it, they got what they deserved. The order is next. Let's get rid of these saintful bastards once, and for all! " I yelled, cheering along with the rest of the death eaters.
" THE CHOSEN ONE, IS DEAD! " Voldemort yelled, flicking his wand and making the chandelier of candles light up.
They continuously tried to tried to win over the next few years, but one by one, Mattheo, Bellatrix, Draco and I took out the people of the order. Beginning with The Weasleys, and ending with the mud-blood. I can still remember her screams as my aunt engraved the word into her forearm, the way her tears rapidly fell down her face, but I saved the youngest male Weasley for last. And I brought him over to his lover and made him watch as we tortured her.
" see the way she's crying Ronnie? That's the way I cried whenever you bloody lot comforted that Potter boy over the death of MY FATHER " I screamed in his face, tossing his body over to my lover.
" you see, you lot never batted an eyelash at me until DAYS after. You all got what you deserved. Used my father as bait. Even believed that my oh so great uncle Lupin was on your side! " I spoke, laughing in the Ginger's face.
Lupin walked out of the hall, with Nymphadora on his arm, and their baby in her arms.
" See Weasel. You and your order, used my father, even used my mother. Used me. Used Remus and Nymph. You used them, and what did you expect? Did you expect them to love you? And cherish you? HUH? ANSWER ME WEASEL! " I yelled, slapping the ginger. Mattheo tugged on my wrist,
" Darling, don't knock him out, he needs to be up for the rest of the grand finale. " he said and I nodded backing away as Voldemort came in.
" see Ronnie. I told my lord about how you treated me, then I recruited this other girl you treated badly too! You remember her? Lavender? Lavender Brown! " I said smiling evily then turned towards the door.
" Hi Won-Won! " she exclaimed, waving at him then walking to me and pulling me in for a hug.
" The dark lord, really enjoyed the stories I told him about you! How you took my virginity on the astronomy tower in 4th year. Took Vina's in 3rd at the same place too! " she said, her smile looking forced now.
" yeah I wasn't really happy to hear that, I mean that isn't very gentlemen like, but then again you and Harry weren't very good people were you? Always had to make everything about yourselves. " Mattheo said, pulling the boys head up so he could stare him in the eyes.
" now children, let's calm down. We can do a little reunion later! Let's get started! " The dark lord said, as he stuck his wand to everyones temple, pulling out the memories.
" see Ronnie. This was Lavender and Davina's idea! And I thought it was a great one considering she is my best friends daughter. " Remus said, as he sat his child in a basket and faced the basket away from the scene.
" what-what is happening " the ginger stuttered, shivering. " you're gonna watch us torture your family! Then you're gonna watch and rewatch Davina murder the chosen one! " Mattheo said, laughing.
" See Ronnie. You all showed your sorrow for Potter. But you never showed me mine? After everything we've been through too! But hey, we aren't gonna show any sorrow for this, so pay back right? " I asked as the memories flooded into Ron's mind, terror taking over his face.
" oh my god you didn't touch my sister right? Or my mom? " he sputtered, closing his eyes.
The boys gasped, " of course not Ronald! We aren't animals! " Mattheo said, punching him in the shoulder.
“ okay, your turn Davina “ Mattheo whispered smirking, I nodded and pulled my wand out muttering the word
“ Crucio “ Ron’s screamed echoed through the room as we laughed.
No sorrow given, No sorrow returned.
