Speeding Bonds: A Sainz Siblings Story

This is my first F1 fanfiction, and I'm excited to share it with you all! It's a bit short, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless. Your feedback means a lot to me, so if you like what you read, let me know! If there's interest, I'll definitely add more to the story. Thanks for taking the time to check it out!

Character: Name: Ji-min Sainz Age: 23

Background: Ji-min was adopted from South Korea into the Sainz family when she was just a baby. Growing up in Spain, she was immersed in Spanish culture but always felt a connection to her Korean roots. She has a warm relationship with her adoptive family.

Ji-min discovered her passion for music at a young age and pursued it fervently. She auditioned for a talent agency in Barcelona and was selected to be a part of a five-member girl group called "Eclipse." Despite her busy schedule as a K-pop idol.

Meanwhile, her older Carlos Sainz Jr. was making a name for himself in the world of Formula 1 racing. Their paths rarely crossed due to their different careers and lifestyles, but Ji-min secretly followed Carlos's races, feeling proud of his achievements yet also envious of the attention and recognition he received.

As Ji-min's popularity as a K-pop idol soared, she kept her family background a secret, fearing that it might overshadow her own accomplishments and potentially cause unwanted attention. However, deep down, she yearned to connect with her brother.

Ji-min: Yeah, all good here! Hey, I was actually wondering... would it be cool if I came to one of your races? I've been dying to see you in action, big bro! 🏎️💨

Carlos: Of course it's cool, Ji-min! I'd love to have you there cheering me on. But... are you okay with everyone knowing we're family? I mean, it's kind of a big deal to go public with this stuff.

Ji-min: Totally cool with it, Carli! I've been wanting to shout it from the rooftops for ages. 😄 Plus, I'm super proud of you, big bro! Let's show the world what the Sains siblings are made of!

Carlos: Haha, you're the best, Ji-min! Thanks for always having my back. 😊 Alright then, I'll hook you up with a pass for the race. Get ready for the full VIP treatment!

Ji-min: Woo-hoo! VIP treatment, here I come! 🌟 Thanks a million, Carli. You're the best big bro a girl could ask for!

Carlos: Anytime, Ji-min! Can't wait to see you at the race, little sis. Get ready for some serious fun!

The day of the race:

At the Australian Grand Prix 2024

Ji-min made her way through the bustling crowds, the sun beating down on her as she walked. She was dressed in a simple sundress, a soft pastel blue that fluttered gently in the warm breeze. The fabric flowed loosely around her figure, offering comfort and ease as she navigated through the throngs of people.

A pair of oversized sunglasses shielded her eyes from the bright sunlight, partially concealing her face and adding a touch of mystery to her appearance. She pulled her hair back into a loose ponytail, strands of dark hair framing her delicate features.

Despite the casual attire, Ji-min moved with a graceful confidence, her steps light and purposeful as she weaved her way through the crowd. She kept her head down slightly, avoiding direct eye contact to minimize attention as she made her way towards the VIP area.

Occasionally, she caught snippets of excited chatter from nearby fans discussing the upcoming race and the drivers competing in it. Ji-min couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement coursing through her veins as she neared the entrance, her heart pounding with anticipation.

As she reached the designated entrance for VIP guests, Ji-min took a deep breath, her excitement bubbling beneath the surface. With a confident smile, she presented her pass to the security personnel and stepped inside, ready to witness her big brother's momentous victory firsthand.

Her eyes scanning the crowd for any sign of her brother. She was so absorbed in her search that she didn't notice the people around her, her gaze moving to her phone screen as she typed out a message to Carlos.

"Hey Carli, just arrived. Where are you? "

Lost in her phone, Ji-min didn't notice the figure approaching until it was too late. With a sudden jolt, she collided with someone, nearly dropping her phone in the process.

"Oh, I'm so sorry!" she exclaimed, looking up to see who she had bumped into.

Standing before her was none other than Lando Norris, one of the drivers competing in the race. Ji-min's eyes widened in surprise, recognizing him instantly from his racing gear and signature smile.

Lando grinned apologetically, his blue eyes sparkling with amusement. "No worries! "

Ji-min nodded, feeling a blush creeping up her cheeks. Sorry for not paying attention."

Lando chuckled, waving off her apology. "Not a problem at all." giving her a friendly nod before continuing on his way.

As Ji-min watched him disappear into the crowd, she couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement coursing through her veins. Little did she know, her encounter with Lando was just the beginning of an unforgettable day at the races.

Ji-min's heart raced as she finally spotted her brother amidst the hustle and bustle of the Ferrari garage. Carlos stood surrounded by his team, his familiar smile lighting up his face as he greeted them with enthusiasm.

"Carli!" Ji-min exclaimed, weaving her way through the crowd until she reached him. "There you are! I've been looking all over for you."

Carlos turned towards her, his eyes lighting up with delight as he caught sight of his little sister. "Ji-min! I'm so glad you made it!" he exclaimed, pulling her into a tight embrace.

Wrapped in her brother's arms, Ji-min felt a rush of warmth and contentment wash over her. It had been too long since they last saw each other, and she cherished every moment they spent together.

"I wouldn't miss it for the world," Ji-min replied, pulling back to look at Carlos with a beaming smile.

They spent the next few minutes catching up, exchanging stories and sharing laughs as they soaked in the atmosphere of the race day. Ji-min couldn't help but feel a surge of pride as she watched her brother interact with his team, his passion for racing shining through in every word and gesture.

Okay I couldn't narrow it down so I'm adding a 6th fic akjnsdfksjnd. So here's my top 6 fics with some commentary because I'm extra af:

1: Everything Was White: After being accidentally revealed to the public and taken away by the government, Danny deals with the aftermath of his time with the GIW.

Yeah, this won't come as a surprise to many. This VERY angsty longfic sorta marked a turning point for me where I started taking writing more seriously, really looking at plot structures, doing research, interacting with other writers. I went into this with "I'll just do a twoshot cuz I suck and I'm not capable of writing much more," and seeing how far I've come in skill and confidence has honestly kept me totally enamored with this fic. I love that I can see my improvement as the fic's gone on. I've gone back and cleaned up the early chapters, and I can still see a distinct difference. Makes me very happy!

2: Morge: It was a beautiful day outside. The birds were singing, the flowers were blooming...a corpse was found in the woods.

This was my first Invisobang fic and also my first (and only? so far?) Outsider POV fic. I loved exploring the perspectives of Amity Park and Phantom from somewhat regular people who don't know much about ghosts. And, of course, writing Danny slowly losing it as the fic went on was a great bonus!

3: Transformation Troubles: A hit from one of Skulker's weapons leaves Danny temporarily unable to transform out of his ghost form. Unfortunately for him, he still has classes to attend.

This fic is just a vibe, honestly. It's a "guilty pleasure" category of DP fics that are few and far between (glitching powers, still has to go to class) but I absolutely inhale any chance I get to read one. College AU, post-reveal MY BELOVED real tea y'all. This basically came from me wanting a niche thing and going, "Fine, I'll write it myself!!"

4: and then he woke up: In his dreams, he woke up in his cell again.

This oneshot is similar to EWW where it's my take on what a realistic GIW recovery might look like. Aka, Danny Has A Bad Time. It's a very sad hurt/comfort fic, but I think it also represents a "level up" in my descriptions and pacing that I've been trying to employ more in recent fics.

5: Black and White Roses: When he died, he didn't get a memorial service. He didn't get the vigil, the flowers, the headstone. In fact, no one even found his body.

Dude idk man I just really love Valerie and Phantom's dynamic. Also, thought it'd be really interesting to write a full ghost AU fic, which it was, because as I was writing it I realized like hey, he'd have a corpse, and corpses are kinda freaky aren't they? Like how would you react if ur ghost friend was like "Hey yeah my corpse is over there." That'd be fucking nuts.

6: Birthmark: “No, it’s…” He trailed off, rubbing a hand over his face. His eyebrows were pinched and he looked almost sick. When he finally spoke, his voice was small. “They’re not tattoos.”

Lichtenberg HC my beloveddddd seriously I love it so much I am SO normal about it. That and Phantom and Valerie becoming friends fics. Literally so fucking normal guys. Just trust me bro.

Yeah 5 and 6 are so similar so I couldn't pick between them hahaha. But this is my current top fave fics!

I'm also REALLY excited to release all the stuff that I've been working on the past year this fall. Not tryna gas myself up here but I've been sitting on so much stuff since last NaNo and I'm just ahhhhh!

Varney the Vampire - chapter 2

Chapter 1: A completely different, much longer approach to the first recap.

Chapter 2: Honestly pretty much the same recap as before (Livejournal, December 7, 2010, in the same post as chapter 1), with some updating/revision.

Chapter II.

THE ALARM. -- THE PISTOL SHOT. -- THE PURSUIT AND ITS CONSEQUENCES.

So! Brought the room down a little last time! Oddly, the first chapter is this tour-de-force of Effective Gothic Atmosphere That Is Honestly Troubling If You Think About It, and then... the dialogue shows up. Welcome to the rest of Varney the Vampire!

Let's stop for a moment to introduce the rest of the family. ROLL CALL:

Henry Bannerworth: Flora's brother and the head of the family, which is broke and semi-disgraced. If you remember the recaps previously, he is the one who practically had to be carried home because vampire hunting is harrrrrrd;

George Bannerworth: Flora's other brother, who is "is of a highly susceptible nature and the very idea of [a vampyre] would kill him," and, indeed, he does get pretty panicked about it. He still has more gumption than Henry does;

Mrs. Bannerworth: Their widowed mother, who—as I originally phrased it, "screams and cries and faints a little, but doesn't ever do much else." This is, of course, the writer's choice—to have a character to wring her hands, and then push her aside to be "paralyzed" at a key moment rather than do anything interesting with her. You might look ahead to Lucy Westenra's mother and wonder if Stoker thought about this;

Mr. Marchdale: Mrs. Bannerworth's childhood friend (??) who lives with the Bannerworths, occasionally pitching in for groceries and stuff. I have a lot of questions about this setup and I can't remember if they were answered when I read ahead 10,000 years ago, but if I were writing this he would completely be Mrs. Bannerworth's live-in "friend"

And now we proceed to one of the key features of James Malcolm Rymer's writing, which is: real-time dialogue between the most excruciating people on earth. Rymer's gonna drive this penny dreadful like a slow cab and by God he's gonna keep the meter running. Did you hear a scream? I don't know, did you? I'm pretty sure I did or I wouldn't be asking? Yes, I think I heard a scream! Do you know where you heard the scream? It was so sudden that I cannot say! You guys, I think it came from FLORA'S ROOM! FLORA'S ROOM? YOU MEAN THE ROOM OF OUR SISTER? WHY YES I DO THINK SO! GET UP! I AM UP! DID YOU HEAR IT TOO? I SAY OLD CHAP I DO BELIEVE I DID! I am not even kidding. It's still going, in fact. DO YOU HEAR THE SCREAMS? THE SCREAMS, THEY SCREAM AGAIN! WHY YES I DO! CAN YOU DOUBT THEY ARE FLORA'S NOW? WHY I DO NOT BELIEVE I CAN! WE MUST SEARCH THE HOUSE! WHY, DO YOU NOT KNOW WHERE YOUR SISTER'S ROOM IS? WELL I'M JUST SAYING THAT MAYBE WE NEED TO BE THOROUGH ABOUT THIS! BUT I THOUGHT WE AGREED IT'S FLORA (WHO IS YOUR SISTER) WHO IS SCREAMING? So finally we get to Flora's room, but it is locked!! I will spare you the next umpteen pages of three grown men trying to conquer this one door, except to say that Marchdale runs off and gets his crowbar (what, you don't keep a crowbar in your bedroom?), and we start to make progress. Kind of.

"Another moment," said [Marchdale], as he still plied the crowbar -- "another moment, and we shall have free ingress to the chamber. Be patient."

OPEN THE FUCKING DOOR, GODDAMN

Finally we get into Flora's room, where—and this will be important later—everyone sees

a figure, gigantic in height, which nearly reached from the floor to the ceiling. [...] Before it passed out they each and all caught a glance of the side-face, and they saw that the lower part of it and the lips were dabbled in blood. They saw, too, one of those fearful-looking, shining, metallic eyes which presented so terrible an appearance of unearthly ferocity.

And then, some 200 words later, Marchdale shoots the vampyre. BLESSINGS UNTO.

That face was one never to be forgotten. It was hideously flushed with colour -- the colour of fresh blood; the eyes had a savage and remarkable lustre whereas, before, they had looked like polished tin -- they now wore a ten times brighter aspect, and flashes of light seemed to dart from them. The mouth was open, as if, from the natural formation of the countenance, the lips receded much from the large canine looking teeth. A strange howling noise came from the throat of this monstrous figure, and it seemed upon the point of rushing upon Mr. Marchdale. Suddenly, then, as if some impulse had seized upon it, it uttered a wild and terrible shrieking kind of laugh; and then turning, dashed through the window, and in one instant disappeared from before the eyes of those who felt nearly annihilated by its fearful presence.

Well, it's no Angel Cupcake Marble Sparklepire, but I'll take it. (This is another feature of the 1800s vampire: they're only pale when they're hungry, and they actually get some human-looking color after feeding; as such, they can walk around pretty much undetected if the tank is full.) LET'S FOLLOW IT! NO DON'T! MOTHER, I MUST! NO, MY SON! YES! NO! YES!!! NO!!1! Blessedly, Flora's mother faints at this point, so that everyone can shut the hell up and chase the damn thing. And then we (eventually) get to the first part of the book that nearly made me cry laughing.

They looked in the direction he indicated. At the end of this vista was the wall of the garden. At that point it was full twelve feet in height, and as they looked, they saw the hideous, monstrous form they had traced from the chamber of their sister, making frantic efforts to clear the obstacle. They saw it bound from the ground to the top of the wall, which it very nearly reached, and then each time it fell back again into the garden with such a dull, heavy sound, that the earth seemed to shake again with the concussion. They trembled -- well indeed they might, and for some minutes they watched the figure making its fruitless efforts to leave the place.

I don't know why Varney can't get over the wall. It's not, like, a holy garlic wall or anything. All I know is, I nearly fell out of my chair at the image of this poor vampire desperately trying to jump over it, perhaps with a sad little grunt, and then falling on its ass... over and over and over.

Geography of Galar

Galar is my home region, and I wanna talk about it more since there's actually multiple cultural regions of Galar. And, at some parts, even different languages! So, here's some stuff about Galar!

Languages

Just getting this out of the way. The most common language spoken in Galarian is, well, Galarian. But there are actually many different 'subcategories' of Galarian. For example, the Galarian I'm speaking is Hammerlock Galarian. But some parts will speak Lean (a language that isn't that common and is spoken and originated in the Glimwood Tangle area), while others might speak other forms of old Galarian. Keep in mind that the languages aren't as common as they used to be because the Hammerlocke kingdom colonized a lot of places. So you won't be completely lost if you visit these places and don't speak the local language.

Southern Galar

Also called Dùaicha by locals, which doesn't really have a direct translation, but it has the old Galarian words for 'country', 'white', and 'field'. Southern Galar is mostly a farming part of Galar, where people have strong accents. The history is pretty neat, as it was once inhabited by different tribes and clans before the people of Hammerlock came and forced them away from their culture. As a lot of history passed, and Hammerlock's kingdom soon died out, the people of Southern Galar were able to gain their cultures back, but of course, there were reproductions, as a lot of their history was lost. While they mostly speak Hammerlock Galarian there, words will sometimes be different.

The people that live in the Crown Tundra tend to have heavier accents (basically the stereotypical Galarian accent you hear all the time), and tend to speak Hammerlock Galarian less.

Central Southern Galar

The place I grew up! Central Southern Galar contains the 1st (first) Wild Area, Turtfield, and the 3rd most populated city in Galar, Motostoke.

The history of Motostoke is rather interesting, being founded in the 1st century and controlled by the old Hammerlock kings. But as time went on and technology started to improve, Motostoke became one of the first industrialized cities in the world!

The Wild Area tends to be different. For one, there's barely any towns there, with some houses and cottages scattered about. And since it's not near most people, they tend to speak old Souther Galarian there (which I would speak with my parents and the other people in the area I lived in). In ancient times, multiple tribes and clans lived in the area, living side-by-side with the Pokemon around them. But the people of the old clans went away for various reasons (colonization, slowly failing economies, disputes, wars, etc).

Turtfield is the second most well-known city in Central Galar 1, purely because one of the gym leaders lives there. The history is still pretty neat, with the artwork depicting the Darkest Day. It's also one of the oldest towns in Galar, still having a lot of culture involved with it.

Central Galar

Hammerlocke

One of the most well-known cities in Galar, which I find interesting since it's not even the capital (Wyndon is). Being one of an old kingdom, descendants from old Hammerlocke are known as Hammerlockians Anyways, Hammerlocke is located in the center of Galar, but I wanna mention it because a lot of stuff has happened here. I can't explain the entire history of it, because I'm most likely not qualified to do that.

But Hammerlocke was a super power in the Galar region, and it managed to colonize a lot of stuff, and is one of the reasons Hammerlocke Galarian is spoken all throughout Galar, spoken in Unova, and a commonly learned second language around the world. They had a monarchy and were run by kings and a couple of queens.

Other than the colonization, Hammerlocke was also known as 'The Dragon Hunters.'' They hunted a lot of dragon types in Galar to extinction, and even as Pokemon started co existing with humans, there was still a lot of stigma around having Dragin types in or near the city, and having one could get you seriously in trouble. Hammerlock actually designed their buildings like that to scare off dragon types. There also one of the reasons Flapple and Appletun look the way they do; they had to evolve to look friendlier to NOT get killed by them!

But now, Hammerlocke is one of the safest places to own a Dragon type in Galar. The wide and expansive area of it as well as the stigma of the area disappearing had led Hammerlocke to almost completely get rid of that stigma entirely (I also like to put that on the popularity of the gym leader here. Ngl, I might've had a crush on him when I was younger).

Central Galar is also home to the second Wild Area. Even fewer people live there compared to the first Wild Area since it holds a lot more dangerous Pokemon.

West-Central Galar

West-Central Galar holds the Leantír and the Creuilg area.

Leantír is the term that refers to the entire Glimwood Tangle area. The word Lea is a Galarian suffix for woodlands or a clearing. Tír is just Southern Galarian for land. The people who reside in this area are known as the Lean people. A cool thing about them is that they are one of the few groups that managed to avoid the colonization of Hammerlocke, purely because the people in Hammerlocke thought that Glimwood Tangle was too dangerous since of the Pokemon there. Because of this, the culture was able to grow free from colonization, and their language has been preserved throughout the years.

There was some stuff that happened though. Like how a guy found Indeedee 7,000 years ago in Glimwood Tangle and took them out to breed them. But another thing that isn't well known is that Leantír use to spread a lot farther than it does now, reaching all the way down to the Stow-on-Side area, and even a bit of Hammerlocke! But Hammerlocke cut down their trees and got rid of their dangerous Pokemon fairly quickly. The Pokemon of the forest than became more wary of people from Hammerlocke, and they ended up attacking any human that wasn't from deeper in the forest, which is why Hammerlocke never went that far.

Creulig is a combination of the old Galarian word for rock and blood (referring to the red-like color of the canyons). One of the largest towns there (Stow-on-side) holds a gym challenge there. It's also the only desert on Mainland Galar.

There were civilizations here in the ancient past, which were realized when old artifacts were found here. But little is known about that civilization, as the history of it only started being documented when newer people moved in.

East-Central Galar

East-Central Galar holds the Nixalba area, which got its name from a forgotten language. "Nix" means snow, while "alba" means white.

The history of the area is really cool (no pun intended), with the Circhester town being around for thousands of years. Originally, Circhester was made in 60 AD, where the first settlers there used the hot springs in the area as a spa area and built their town around it. It became a really popular tourist spot, with the added gym challenge making it even more popular.

The places around it (like Spikemuth and route 8) used to be a lot colder, but climate change and global warming have made it the way it is today. Route 8 has faced a lot of weathering and erosion, which is what gives it its more rocky appearance. But ancient people of the Nixalba area lived there, giving it the ruins it has. In the Hulbury area, people have used that place as a fishing port for hundreds of years.

Northern Galar

Other than the Wyndon district, Northern Galar is inhabited much because of the large mountains making it hard for people to live there. Mostly hikers, researchers, and explorers head there.

However, the history of Wyndon is really interesting. The main city itself was founded in 43 CE when the Hammerlocke kingdom was making its way around Galar. Most of the ancient tribes that lived there were wiped out, and not much is known about the tribes that resided here (which is sad).

The Isle of Armor

The Isle of Armor is a subregion of Galar. Back then, a lot of immigrants from Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh came here, and the culture here reflects that. This place is very popular for trainers coming here to get stronger because of the famous dojo they have here.

So yeah, that's the Galar region! Have fun with this information!

Honestly, I know this probably isn't accurate to irl UK, but I think it would just be boring to restate UK history. Plus, I don't want the world building to be EXACTLY like it is irl. For one, the game doesn't mention much colonization, and I like that idea. But it would make sense that Galar would have some colonization (it's literally the UK), But I also like the idea of different languages being more common, since it sucks that irl UK has a bunch of dying languages because of colonization. So instead, I made them have colonization, but the languages would stay semi-alive, where you would meet a lot more people that would speak them.

The Isle of Armor was based on The Isle of Man, which mostly has a Celtic history. But from what we see in the game, it has a lot of East Asian inspiration, and I wanted to reflect that here.

I purposely made the places seem bigger than they were since it's stupid to only imagine one small town in the entirety of an area. Plus, we only really see that stuff in the game because it's all we need to see. We can assume there's more people and towns there.

The old clans and tribes are supposed to be old Celtic tribes, but I couldn't think of a name to give them in the Pokemon world...

The Good Witch Thoughts

When I first heard the album I remember thinking there aren’t enough sad songs on here and then I entered a depressive spiral and HA I WAS WRONG (Sidenote i hate tumblr formatting)

1 - The Good Witch

Like the vibe

“Still upset but I now I’m twenty-two” - I'm a sucker for an age lyric - especially the parallel with You Signed Up For This (“I am twenty and probably upset right now”) and the fact that it’s the titular song again

“Still bitter” - Reference to Details (love of my life <3), Reference to I’m Trying (Not Friends)

“The calm before the storm comes rushing through” - Harmony v pretty (around 30 secs)

“Still King’s Cross and pullin’ heartbreak out of hats”- Love the reference to King’s Cross, her London references makes it feel so grounded and especially again it being a place in London I travel through it makes it feel like a new album and a specific album to me (still King’s Cross for a tiny little while longer). Also relating to Elvis song (“last train on the Northern line”) always moving through London, experiences anchored in London geography. Also love the ramping up of the music here

“Still argue like my mother and suppress stuff like my dad” - The pace on this line really shows the suppressing stuff lol

“Am I better yet?” - Change from You Signed Up For This “I know I’ll get better/I’m just not better yet" Questioning it now like I know I’ve changed but is it better? Am I at the point I want to be??

Instrumental outro and talking hurts my heart a bit? Very 3 am fucked up in a club

Music is so personal for me and this one is such a reclamation even though it’s so sad

Such a good single choice bc it’s such an easy listen but so brutal so captures heartbreak and bops and also u wanna listen over and over

“Haven’t thought of home twice” - feels like a hectic Cambridge time or any second and third week somewhere new when you’ve started to settle and everything is new and fun and you’re flying and you don’t wanna lose it

Fave lyric: “I'm twenty-one and I feel evergreen” - The way she sings this is so wistful, or “It was falling in love/in a gas station/by the pickup trucks” - Love the juxtaposition, love in the weirdest and most unexpected places

7 - You're Just a Boy (and I'm Kinda the Man)

“You’re kind of awful but you’re not awful on purpose” - Ugh you suck but you’re not even aware so it’s better and worse because how can I blame you but also how can you not know??

“I’m on a one way trip to take over the world/you could’ve come but your head’s in the sand” - Usually head in the sand is to avoid something shitty so it’s interesting to have it like this, like you’re so determined to ignore flaws that you miss all the joy

“But you pushed me out quicker than it took me to put my jeans on” - Oof that hit and feels like such shame but suddenly you’re like no if you’re not feeling like you’re the luckiest damn person then I’m gonna keep on going and you’ll see what you lost

“I made it to September” - oh man that feels like a real okay fine I’ve made it to the next year lets go again. But also like yeah fuck I reached this milestone I didn’t like I would and now this date is passed I don’t feel so broken

Fuck me I really like that this whole album is heartbreak but catharsis. Like want you back, this and watch are all sad but all elements of something

“I’m young but I am aging” - I love that so much. Like yeah I’m young but I am getting older, I’m changing and growing and I’ll look back at this one day and laugh, I’m gonna make the most of being young but I’m not gonna be terrified of losing my youth

“I felt so far from the cliffs” - Like u know what people can love me and be proud of me and want to show me off

“The way I loved you, I will not be embarrassed of that/I should’ve just known when to quit” - YES!! Don’t be ashamed of loving someone but you can be sad for not calling it quits soon enough

Also I love the way she sings it

Fave lyric: “The love we had was covered in snow” - Like Love Him I Don’t (“comin’ up roses/kickin’ up snow”), “The love we had was eatin’ me whole” - I had to rip myself away from that or “The loss is yours” - It feels so final and so confident

15 - History of Man

Oh the opening lines they’re haunting and beautiful also I love songs that reference Jericho

“Tale as old as honey” - Sweet and ancient

“I tried to rewrite it but I can’t” - She keeps saying she’s the writer but some things you just can’t change

“You walked out, oh/without sweating” - It wasn’t even fucking hard for you to leave, to run away from us, to leave me in the dust and rubble

“I’ve seen it in the poems, in the sands” - In the sands of time, in the poems of the ancients, this isn’t new, this will all happen again

The storytelling and the distance?? Love it

“I would’ve made him weaker too” - Redemption and vindication (I beg u Maisie write a song referencing Medea). The way she sings it is so pretty!

It’s so unspecific but so resonant

“Women’s hearts are lethal weapons/Did you hold mine and feel threatened?” - Were you scared of what me loving you meant? Were you scared of opening your heart and being vulnerable?

"Hear my lyrics taste my venom" - this is such a thesis statement for the album

Beautiful album closer and think it will be a fave

Undead Girl Murder Farce Episode 12: Where The River's Flow Changes

Certainly not the Murder Farce episode I was expecting, but I'll be damned if it hasn't set the stage for one of my most anticipated episodes so far this year. All sorts of little bits and pieces that leave the mystery on the very cusp of being solved, while teasing a veritable feast of action and matchups to close out the season. There's hardly any time to waste so I'll get on to the point.

Well, to start. Victor saves Tsugaru and Aya. Not anything special, but it's just allowing viewers to get acquainted with his character. Not-so-shockingly, Victor is - in a sense- a pacifist. He has no problem throwing down, but he won't kill. Saving Tsugaru and Aya is obvious, but I also like how when he lies down to pass the time, he briefly looks up at some butterflies or moths before dozing off.

Moving on to the episode itself, a very interesting thing. Very, very interesting indeed. We open with seeing a casket being carried through the werewolf's village. A casket that most likely holds Nora within.

On its own, it's nothing special, but later in the episode we find another casket... that contains nothing. Rather, it's on the side of the road that Louise's body is discovered.

Together, the pair pose the question of 'why'. Was was it just now that Louise's body was discovered. What reason would there be with its positioning. Well, that's the interesting answer that the episode poses, so I'll come back to it when we get there.

Anyways, we move onwards. Tsugaru and Aya are taken to where Shizuku's being held that they can discuss things. Just the usual, some exposition and character acting and whatnot. What I like more than that is the visuals. Shizuku is in cage because she's forced to be. The door is closed and she can't leave. Meanwhile, Tsugaru meanders into a cage with its door open and lazes about. Just a clever bit of character acting and visuals to show the disparity in how the pair live their respective lives.

Continuing to press onwards, we find more cool stuff. Both in terms of story and visuals. Really liked this cut that showed a 2D rotating object, and the overhead view. Great work all around to make the most of literally walking in a circle.

And this is where they mystery really kicks off. We confirm that it's Gustav's gun that's been the murder weapon of choice for these attacks.

Keeping it going, we get an even weirder reveal. Moths. These little guys are interesting, and arguably, important. So, a little info now, a bit more later.

Why was Nora damp/wet despite being murdered on a dry day? Why were the girls murdered on rainy days? How does Louise differ from all of this?

The moths. Any travel between the underground passage and aboveground causes people to be covered in moth scales. So, if you don't want to leave any hints or trails, they've got to be washed away.

Just a bit later, Aya is talking to Tsugaru about the blood splatter in a certain area in the cave.

Put two and two together, and what do you get? The way that Louise is discovered, and the way that this blood pattern came to be, they tell the story we're all thinking. Louise wasn't killed by a werewolf, but a gun. But the point still stands, why. I'm a fraction of a sliver of information away from putting it together, but I can't find what I need.

Regardless of my inability to solve the case, we get more info. Someone, something has been living in this cave, spending time there. On the wall "probation" is written above what Aya estimates at 550 tallies. There's certainly something being told with the affectations that litter the space, but I can't put them together.

Regardless of that though, I like this shot for two reasons.

1: Foreground obstruction that gives a feel of three dimensional space

2: Tsuguaru's head isn't in frame, but Aya's is. The point driven home is that Tsugaru is Aya's body, while Aya is Tsguaru's brain. Fun little detail for sure.

And then, of course, there's Alma, whos' now confirmed to be dead, but in a way that differs from the other two. One human girl dead, one werewolf girl dead, and one werewolf masquerading as a human dead. All of them with blonde hair. I don't quite have an answer for this either, but it certainly must play into the mystery at large.

Alright, lets speed things along then, shall we? Humans vs werewolves. Is it the end goal of Jutte? Driven out of the werewolf village with her mother, hunted down like animals by humans. Neither side showing affection to the girl forsaken by both. Could she really be doing this to get the two villages to annihilate the village? It's possible, and I guess we'll find out in the next episode, but I wanted to share this image.

A moon died orange, almost glowing as if it were on fire. An intentional mixture of the two aspects that have defined each village so far.

So, like I said, village vs village. An all out brawl spurred on by the "insurance" brokers that brought the humans down to the werewolf village. I think it's a little bit wonky, but surprisingly well animated. The ideas are creative, the actual animation itself is solid, but the boards and movement itself can certainly be odd. Shows a lot of ambition, and even the ability to back it up, but not the experience necessary to execute on it. Certainly has my hopes up for the finale episode though.

Alright, my last piece, more of that moth stuff. It seems like those moths might have been able to have an affect on the humans. Not a guarantee by any means, but just feels like something that might be possible considering how much effort's gone into showing those scales on them.

Okay I lied, this is the last piece. I'm really unsure now of the point of this blur. Before it was all on the noses of characters, but in this cut it's shown to effect the right side of Vera's body?

All in all, the stage has been set in wonderful fashion. Certainly a better episode than the prior, but still withholding all of its cards so that it can play them all in one go next week. A mountain of details and information that's just waiting on that final piece to complete itself, and a mountain of kickass and exciting fights waiting. I absolutely can't wait to see what comes of it.

Do you have motivational tips? I always lose motivation to continue writing after a while but I'm also scared of sharing works that aren't finished because while commets would probably the best motivator, they also started to scare me, even if that sounds dramatic. The thought of people "expecting" more kind of stresses me out because I get scared that they will lose interest if I don't work fast enough and that blocks me from working at all, I had this happen before a couple of times and eventually just stopped posting works in progess. That worked best for me but it's also less fun and I struggle to motivate me now: I've only recently gotten back into wanting to write fanfiction (for F1) and it doesn't work and seeing you suddenly work on your big project again makes me want to know your secrets, even though I know that they might not even apply to me. 🤷🏼‍♀️❤️

you're doing amazing, first of all, for simply wanting to make stuff. and acknowledging the fear and anxiety that comes with it. that's very brave of you and very strong. and to ask for help! i'm already very proud of you.

and i get you. i have experienced quite a lot of pressure and writing-fright with all the comments i've gotten for Racing Heartbeats too. and, due to so much time passing, i just felt like i could write the whole series better than i already had. but that's part of it too, the progress! i think people can quite well read the difference in my writing style if you were to compare work 1 to work, idk, 10? 20? i read a post by ao3commentoftheday on it a few days ago and what i remember was this: it doesn't matter that the writing style changes over course, the readers change with you, see you evolve, and really don't mind that. it stuck with me.

then another thing that helped, for me, was working on other projects. the constant affirmation to myself that, despite not being able to work on RH, i can still write. i still enjoy writing. whether it's a short brainworm like lover, lead me astray or a longer thing like my nanowrimo project keep me under the charm. i could isolate my block to only RH and focus on other stuff. and when i felt ready, i could go back to RH with ease.

i recommend picking up something super small first. a pwp, just getting them from point a to b with no stops along the way, a nice ficlet (<1k) or short story (<5k) to get your knuckles warmed up for something bigger. maybe even a non-fanfic writing exercise can help! i've once written a story about chess pieces getting picked up by human hands, not knowing what's going on or even that they were pawns in a bigger game. something very random. with a fifteen minute timer and just no pressure, no goal, no worries. just whatever words come to mind. it's quite a creepy thingie and i still think fondly about it.

besides that, specifically talking about the comments: it's not dramatic to see it as frightening. it very well is. you're putting your work, something you put time, effort, your heart, into just out for the world to see. that is scary. just bc it's through pixels and not on a big irl stage where you can see the faces looking at you, the faces are still there. so it's completely normal and not at all dramatic to find that scary. i had that struggle too, with people commenting 'when will you update' 'where's the next chapter' etc. go away!!!!!! it's so well-intended but it has the opposite effect. and what helped for me is standing up for myself, being kind to myself. i can only write and post when i'm ready, when i want to, because in the end the only person i'm doing this all for is me. it's not the nicest thing, sometimes. and i'm certain i've lost readers bc of it, but that's fine, because it did help me.

what also helps in that regard, and something i've painfully come to learn with RH, is only posting when you're done with the entire work. but that comes with the added struggle of rarely ever being able to share your stuff with other people bc you don't want to spoil your whole work before anyone had a chance to glance at it.

what always helps for me, and something i had the luxury of getting used to and then the pain of losing it only to then get it again and realise how much i need it, is a cheerleader. one person, or more, who does read what you write. who brainstorms with you. who checks what you're up to, who helps you out every step of the way. the official fandom term for this is an alpha reader, though i often see people referring to them as a beta reader too. the links go more in depth about the roles but the most important difference for me is this: a beta reader is someone you ask to check your work right before posting. checking spag, mostly. an alpha reader/cheerleader is someone you go to before you start writing. they help brainstorm the idea, characterisation, plotholes, etc. having a cheerleader really helps me so so much to stay awake and focused on a project. and you can do that thing you so desperately want to: share! you can share your work with someone! and someone who doesn't expect you to write anything and someone who helps you too!

i guess my biggest secret is that i rn have @vmyosotis as my beloved cheerleader helping me with literally every single one of my brainworms (she's collecting my wip documents like a gremlin hoards shiny stones), @pinkjamblesss to generally get excited about 4433, to brainstorm new ideas together and just go feral about these nerds, and @strawcars about some angsty whump ideas that are out of my comfort zone, but still the brainstorming gets me excited and consider things for my own work as well. i think i'm more of a cheerleader to cherry than she's to me. maybe one day if i'll venture into hurt/no comfort.

so yeah. get your people around you - through the tumblr tags, ao3, other social media, discord, etc. - to get excited with you about your ideas. hell, i'd love to be a cheerleader for you! i love helping people get to more ideas and working out the kinks in a story to create something new! i love seeing people with creative ideas i'd never think of! and i hope to see you in the F1 tag, when you're ready for it.

Gen VI, Complete!

You read that correctly, we've made it through PokeFrance (Official term for Kalos, honest!) and have compiled the data!

With that said, let us begin the usual look at this generations...

Sultans of Smash!

(Which is just my fancy way of saying they got more "Smash" than "Pass" votes)

So come with me on this fabulous journey in smashing! Our Smashables are (under the Read More because, you know, this gonna take a while):

1. So for this generation, we do have three starters on the list! But, sadly, Chesnaught couldn't make it. So for our first starter, we instead have our second middle evolution, Braixen! Suppose it's not hard to see why, everyone loves magical girls and Braixen certainly counts! Counts enough to get a 66.4% Smash rating, which is pretty good says I.

2. But far surpassing Braixen is the greatest of Pokemon fire mages, Delphox! And when I say surpass, I mean really surpasses! Delphox has the honor of being the first Starter Pokemon to make it into the Gods of Smash, with a mighty 80.9% Smash rating! There's no stopping the magic of this witch! ...Side note, I think I will be naming my next Delphox "Browser", because she's a Firefox. (Ba-Dum-Tss)

3. Similar to the samurai, ninja have long been one of the more interesting mainstays of Japanese pop culture (especially abroad), and are almost always popular. So it's understandable that Pokemon's own ninja, Greninja, would have their fair share of friends and admirers! And with a smash rating of 72.5% in Standard Form, god damn what fans they have! The Ash-Greninja form, while not quite as popular Standard Form, also makes it in with a 52% Smash rating! Looks like not even a ninja of this calibur can hide how smashable they are.

4. This next Pokemon has a pretty accurate name. Florges, a combination of "Flower" and Gorgeous", certainly describes them pretty well if you ask me! And judging by that solid 67.8% Smash rating she's earned herself, I'd say many of y'all agree!

5. Everyone knows the "Jerk with a Heart of Gold" character archetype, and the closely related "Bruiser with a Soft Center". And it cannot be understated that these character archetypes are super popular. So of course, combining them into a single Pokemon and making that Pokemon a panda? Instant recipe for success, I'm sure! And said Pokemon exists in the form of Pangoro! Are they loved? I dunno, let's ask that 67.9% Smash rating of theirs. ...Survey says yes.

6. Many of us love cats, but often wish it was easier to understand them (or at the very least make ourselves understood to them). Fortunately for the Pokemon universe, they do have cats that can understand us and be more easily understood in the form of the psychic Meowstic! Coming in at 68.1% Smashable for Female Meowstic and 59.3% Smashable for Male Meowstic, it seems some of y'all really appreciate these cats! ...Now if only Female Meowstic didn't tend to fall into the French/Kalosian stereotype of being kind of a jerk (according to the Pokedex, anyways)

7. If there's two things I've seen a number of tumblr users like, it's tentacles and hypno stuff. So with that in mind, Malamar having both makes it very unsurprising they've gained entry to the Sultans of Smash! That said, at a 51.7% Smash rating, I have to admit I expected larger numbers. But anyways... Wait wha- ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOSQUID.

8. It's a tale as old as time, people look at the Tyrannosaurus Rex as a kid and think "That's them, that's the coolest fucking dinosaur ever!" While some move on or get different favorite dinosaurs, for some that passion never fades. And that passion for the majestic t.Rex, it seems, translates itself onto Tyrantrum! And at 53% Smashability, seems this king will have no reason to go on a tantrum. (Thank god, I don't think we could handle the repair bills to the property if they did...)

9. The Aurora Borealis has fascinated humans since they've first been able to observe that wondrous display of light. Thankfully for those of us who don't live in polar regions, the color-changing sails of Aurorus can help capture the beauty of such a natural phenomenon! Certainly, many of you have expressed a desire to admire this Pokemon up close and personal, if that 65.9% smash rating is any indication! Though really, the ice crystals and geometric patterns on their scales also do a lot for the appeal of this cool customer.

10. Attention everyone, it is once again Real Eeveelution Hours! And for this list's Eeveelution, we have everyone's favorite walking trans flag, Sylveon! With their extendable ribbons, piercing blue eyes, and 69.3% Smash rating, it seems Sylveon continues the time-honored Eeveelution tradition of being absolutely smashable!

11. Hear me out here, what if snails and slugs were also... Dragons? If your answer to learning this was "Oh fuck yeah that sounds awesome!", then I have Good News! This Snail/Slug Dragon I proposed is a thing in the form of Goodra, with Kalosian Goodra being more slug-like and Hisuian Goodra being more snail-like! However people like them though, considering Kalosian Goodra has a 71.4% Smash rating and Hisuian Goodra has a 61.6% rating, it's clear people do like these dragons quite a bit.

12. It may not be Halloween, but for many of us there's always time for Jack-o'-Lanterns! And with Gourgeist, the next Pokemon on our list, you can have a jack-o'-lantern that can also be smashed, something a number of you want if that 50.4% Smash rating is any indication!

13. And next up on the list, we have a noisy one! Ever wondered what would happen if bats could be loud enough to shatter anything by yelling at it? Well, if Noivern and their 68% Smash rating is any indication, the answer is "People would want to smash it!" Though really, looking at them, I can safely say you'd have to be blind as a bat to not see the appeal. Sorry, the pun had to be made.

14. I'm gonna be honest, I tried thinking long and hard on how to be crafty with my statement regarding this next one, but I just can't do it. I'd need more than one lifetime to make something fitting enough for this majestic deer! Fortunately, Xerneas can give one all the time in the world they need to think of stuff! And judging by that 66.5% Smash rating, I think a few of y'all have a few ideas on what to do with all the time Xerneas' immortality will give you...

15. But where there's life, there must, sadly, be death. Fortunately, death is this case is the very cool looking Yveltal, who has achieved an impressive 63.5% Smash rating! Seems that for some of y'all, "Death comes for you" has a different meaning...

16. Balance is an important part of any ecosystem. Too much death and you have no ecosystem, but too much life and you risk one particular part of that ecosystem overwhelming the rest. Fortunately, to prevent this from happening, Zygarde is here! And judging by how 50% Forme has a 52.3% Smash rating and Complete Forme has a 61.2% Smash rating, I'd say a number of you wish to show Zygarde your appreciation.

17. Diamonds are great. They're shiny, they're stupidly hard to damage, and they can come in a variety of colors! And that's just in our universe, the Pokemon universe is lucky and has Diancie, a living diamond Pokemon! And if Standard Form's 56.1% Rating and Mega Diancie's 65.3% rating is any indication, Diancie also adds "Very smashable" to the list of good diamond traits!

18. And for the finale, I present to you... Another Pokemon who only had an alternate form get in? Yep! It's Hoopa, the genie in a bottle Pokemon! Specifically, it's Hoopa Unbound, who makes it in with a 55.6% Smash rating! And with his rings, they'll show you the wo- Eh? What? Copyright law?! Damn it! Ok my lawers just advised me to not finish that joke, so sadly I can't leave y'all on the Aladdin reference. But I can say that considering Hoopa has a history of stealing treasure with their rings, I'm beginning to suspect some of y'all have a thing for Pokemon with criminal tendencies...

And thus is the Gen VI Who's Who of Smashing concluded, bringing us up to 136 Sultans of Smash! Well then let's see what's next... Gen VII? Oh man, we've got some choice Sultans of Smash incoming...!

Current play updates! I got the Explorer-mode multiclass mod, and Tae now has the first level of Cleric! (Of Eilistraee, ofc.) Also gave them longsword proficiency, so they can use Phalar Aluve. Honestly probably won't be levelling up Cleric any further, I genuinely just wanted the dialogue options.

Also gave Astarion the first level of Bard. Listen he's made for using Vicious Mockery.

Storywise, pretty sure I'm at the end of act 1! Really only got two things left - the elevator at Grymforge, or the Mountain Pass. Image-heavy below the cut!

I know that taking the elevator at Grymforge definitely leads into act 2. Not sure about the mountain pass, so I may do that first and just… see how it goes. That's where I stopped first time because it warned about me being underlevelled (I was on 4 at the time, I think); since I'm using both the EXP mod and the no party limits mod, I'm, uh, now level 8 across the board instead and now have seven level-8 characters instead of four level-4 characters… bit of a difference, haha.

As suspected, the Underdark was interesting as hell as a drow. Lots of fear from characters like the gnomes, lots of characters assuming you're Just Another Drow In Service To The Absolute, like this guy. Honestly, was pretty satisfying kicking Nere's ass.

Tae is So Grossed Out but stuck to the more important point.

I actually ended up doing the third option and got some interesting side-eyes, but it didn't end in a fight. Ended up killing them later in the fight against Nere, anyway.

The discovery that the drow in the cages were likely surface drow… as in Tae's people… oh yeah, they killed him.

Interesting responses from Astarion (not in the image, just for this part in general). He actually tended to disapprove of things like helping the enslaved gnomes? I'm kind of wondering if it's trauma-based resentment, like, "No one ever helped me, why are you going out of your way to help others?" It's still very early on in his arc here, especially since Tae isn't romancing him, and I suspect a lot of those disapprovals are like…

He still almost has this mindset of 'slaves deserve what they get, they're just slaves, they're not actual people'. Because if he acknowledges that the gnomes are people as well, then he has to acknowledge his own personhood and the two hundred years of trauma that accompanied it. With the Moonlight Towers conversation, he admits he had still been thinking like a slave, and we haven't even got there yet. A lot of the disapproval may be from Cazador's conditioning, which is genuinely depressing.

Gale's response when Tae told the duergar to free the gnomes. I goddamn love how much the characters respond to stuff autonomously, it makes them feel so much more like people, not just collections of stats.

Of course, it's not all murdering! Here is some cuteness. One of those delightful times you get both [Astarion approves] and [Karlach approves]…

Hmm!

i once wrote a fic (that i never finished btw oops) about a character that's an absolute disaster (Root from person of interest) trying to charm a character from a totally different show (Lisbon from the mentalist). except the disaster one's just been wounded, so it goes pretty much like this:

character A: cheesy flirty introduction

character B : flustured/lowkey kinda falling for A

character A: passes out on the floor from the pain/blood loss

it was a while back and that fic is definitely not my best, but to this day i think that was hilarious of me.

Of course those assholes liked nothing more than to spend their worst hangovers going out for a run at ungodly hours in the morning when Hange was still walking that fine line between still a bit drunk and entering the despair of post-alcohol consumption dehydration, and then exposing their sensitive eyes to way too much daylight for the sake of long term health and detoxifying their bodies.

Masochists.

They scroll down the long list of texts, quickly scanning it and surprised to see even Erwin Always-too-busy Smith replied to the group chat saying he had a free day as well and wouldn't mind spending it in the sun; and finally cave to give into what they'd really intended to do in the first place.

Their heart beating wildly against their ribcage, they get their finger to tap on the other app. Levi's profile picture is surrounded by the familiar orange and purple glint of a new story addition, and Hange's so quick to click on it they sigh at themself –before they lay eyes on the content and it turns into a pathetic pained moan instead.

Since I rambled about last weeks episode as I watched it, I'm gonna do that again with this week's episode. So spoilers for The Flash S09E03 - Rogues of War beneath the cut. I'm depending on Hartley Rathaway to make things interesting again, so let's find out if he pulls through for me.

Opens with Fiddler and Boomerang having fun with a break in. I do enjoy their banter. Murmur, though... so creepy. (Yeah, I did see spoilers first so I know who is in the creepy mask.)

Barry and Iris taking cooking lessons in France. I do love that. And does this mean Iris is no longer a lethal chef? Since it took them 40 times in Flashtime... probably not.

But Iris really does not seem thrilled when Barry mentions she'll be pregnant soon. So seems like Ep 1's reveal of Iris' dislike of knowing so much about how her future is meant to happen hasn't been entirely dealt with. I'm not thrilled with this arc tbh. Like... I want to be glad they're finally addressing Iris feeling like she doesn't really have any real agency in her own life. But the time to address that was passed seasons ago. So doing it now feels forced.

oh lovely the app crashed, lets reboot that and hope I can skip forward to the right point.

Khione continues to make me think of Layla from Sky High, what with her interest in nature. And whatever is up with her is more interesting than the ongoing Chester/Allegra stuff.

Ooooh they name dropped the Cosmic Treadmill. I do love the Cosmic Treadmill. And after exposition and flashbacks and more exposition... yay there's Hartley!!!

Hartley with his grin as he convinces Barry that they should steal shit together is hilarious. Like, he has to be having so much fun with this. Especially since they need more Rogues to pull it off.

I don't remember Jaco right now (am I spelling his name right???) so I'm gonna have to look him up later.

Hartley pissing off Blaine makes me smile. Especially since he dislikes Hartley so much after last episode that Blaine makes a point of saying he isn't taking orders from Hartley. Oh how terrible, Hartley forced you to do the right thing and then pointed out getting drunk won't help. (Like... to some degree, I do get that there may be another source of his resentment of Hartley. If Blaine knows the story about Roderick and how Hartley waited five years to get him back then he may resent Hartley for getting his boyfriend back while Hartley destroyed the one thing that might bring back Frost. Of course, the biggest difference is that Hartley never tried to sacrifice anyone else's life to save Roderick. And, well... Roderick was never actually dead. Paused the show to write this so let's get back to it now.)

Goldface being dramatic and I do love that about him. And it amuses me that his on again, off again with Amunet is off again. And Carver. *cackling with laughter here* "Book club will remain a safe space." Lies apparently. *snicker* Hartley has to be wondering what kind of supervillain Goldface even is at this point. Also judging Barry so hard for his criminal contacts.

Oh... Jaco was in the episode where Iris got to be the Flash. I vaguely remember him now.

The bickering Rogues and Hartley once again asserting he's the smartest person in the room. Oh my arrogant Pied Piper. I do enjoy seeing him be so confident in his brilliance. :D Goldface and Blaine not getting along just makes me like Goldface more. And I already enjoy his character so much this episode.

What even is the point of the Chester/Allegra scene shoehorned in here?

Anyway, more Rogues banter. And Hartley is such a little shit. He's having so much fun pushing people's buttons and of course the Rogues being assholes to each other turns into them united against Barry so that they'll finally work together... which I think was Hartley's plan from the moment he started pushing buttons. He is a chess master who played against Eobard Thawne, after all.

Iris worrying about putting her career on hold to be a mom is pretty understandable. And I think it'd help if maybe she realized that she'll have more than just Barry to lean on when it comes to making time for herself once Nora comes. Joe and Cecile may wind up moving away, but Team Flash will still be there. And theoretically they're a found family.

I'm proud of Chester, making the Wayne Enterprises connection.

Oh, now Khione is enabling the Chester/Allegra. Bad Khione. Stop that.

Barry apologizing to the Rogues is actually kinda sweet. As funny as Goldface figuring out that Barry's the Flash on the spot, it's so much funnier that Jaco is just like 'yeah they got the same Jitter's order, it's obvious'. Had to pause the episode again, that's just hilarious. I may not have remembered Jaco before, but he is certainly memorable now. Barry, Barry, Barry... what is even the point of pretending to have a secret identity at this point?

So I'm kinda expecting Blaine to have betrayed them based on the listening device that showed up earlier. But it is fun to see all four Rogues working together with Barry.

Oh there's the betrayal. Mark Blaine. Asshole. I hate his stupid jacket. It looks terrible.

I do like that Hartley's first instinct is to tell Barry he's on the way to help. Of course, there are three more bad guy Rogues to stop Barry's Rogues from helping him.

De-powered Barry vs Blaine was definitely not gonna go Barry's way, but the Rogues vs Rogues was fun to watch. And Hartley canonically knows ASL!!!!!! Yes!

Jaco and Fiddler stopping mid fight to flirt. I adore them. That was unexpected and so cute.

Goldface naming the Red Death from Edgar Allen Poe. :D

Ooooh, likes like Hartley isn't the only Rogue sticking around. Goldface and Jaco will be helping out more this season too. Doesn't seem like they'll be in the next episode though, but I guess I'll know for sure when I check out the trailer for episode four.

Ryan has been missing for how long? And Team Flash is only finding out now? Why are these super hero teams so bad at reaching out to each other for help?

Fiddler is my fav bad Rogue now. Between flirting with Jaco and calling Blaine 'abs' mockingly, she's fun. And Blaine finding out that maybe he's in over his head now is exactly what he deserves.

Now for post episode thoughts.

Khione still doesn't seem to have a purpose. If she's supposed to be the right hero at the right time, then it may be a slog to get there. But right now, Caitlin would be a much more useful character than Khione is. So while Khione is sweet, that's all she seems to have going for her at the moment.

Chester/Allegra feel even more like a romantic plot tumor when there's Fiddler/Jaco's instant chemistry there to compare it to. Or last week's flirting with Hartley/Roderick.

Murmur trying to recruit Hartley was unexpected, but interesting in what it says about the respect Hartley must have commanded before he retired to run the club with Roderick. Especially since Goldface recognized Hartley once he identified himself as the Pied Piper. I'm not sure what to do with that yet, but it'll wind up expanded on in fanfic form eventually. I do like it's continuation on the last episode's themes about change, though. Hartley, when offered the chance to join the bad guys, turns the opportunity down because that's not who he chooses to be anymore. Compared to Blaine who presumably sought out Red Death's side because he cares more about his grief than what Frost would actually want. Much as I don't like Blaine, the narrative foil set up between him and Hartley is actually kinda interesting.

However. Does not look like we're getting more Hartley next week based on the trailer for episode 4, but maybe we'll learn how Ryan became the Red Death and if she's even our universe's Ryan? It'd be interesting if this is how the multiverse were to be reintroduced to the show. Probably not, but it's a thought.

Since ep3 was a more lighthearted episode, I'm expecting ep4 and ep5 (since they seem to be a two parter based on the naming) to be much darker. Which the teaser trailer seems to back up.

Despite the lack of Hartley, I think I'll tune in anyway next week. I mean, he might show up? And even if he doesn't, I don't want to miss out on important plot points for later. For now anyway. This season does seem better than what I saw of S8, but honestly it's a low bar to clear and my faith in the show runners/writers is pretty much gone.

(I'm still rooting for anyone to stab Mark Blaine in a dark alleyway. Because I'm afraid they're gonna give him yet another redemption arc. Undeservedly. Though it'd be great if he did not get a redemption arc and then Hartley gets to curbstomp him.)

I have recently learned that I don't have an original experience, under the guise that each day I prove to be more and more nerodivergent as time passes by and the question of "am i really? Maybe I'm just attention seeking" just sort if becomes a denial rather than a question.

Here's a bunch of things I think are signs and or could be debunked but I need opinions ti be able to figure myself out and stuff, so maybe enjoy the drama and stuff???

1. I thought I was able to look people in the eyes, no I'm not, not unless I'm comfortable with that person and/or the situation is like really awkward then I actually physically can't look at them in the FACE.

2. My jacket. The thing my avatar has, its my comfort item. One night I couldn't stop crying and had the thought "put the jacket on" and I did and I ended up being able to finally calm down and breath despite the tears not stopping. I felt safe.

3. Headphones. Once more another comfort item. I dont like leaving anywhere without them. Their as much as a trademark as my jacket and blue jeans.

4. Speaking of blue jeans (this could also be a self esteem thing I dont have a high ar on that) I don't like wearing certain clothes outside nor do I like wearing certain clothes to sleep or in my bed. My preferred fashion senses have always pertained to what I loved to wear and feel on my skin (let it be known I had a navy blue jacket at all times like this one sort of that I outgrew in middle school and a different jacket that held my special interest on it)

5. Speaking of special interests, TRANSFORMERS. that shit took over my life so fast you'd think that I was driving a nasa car with the way I dove headfirst into making that bitch an extraterrestrial. And while of course I grew out of things transformers is ALWAYS THERE and NEVER GOING AWAY no matter how much I dont talk about it with other people (that's what this blog is for)

6. Sensory shit. I dont care what something smells like I am going to get a whiff. Smells bad? Okay let me make sure. Smells good? I'm following it like a cartoon character ti a white steam trail. The only time I dont like a smell is when its so strong it literally makes me gag. I like smells but don't mix and match and crank it to eleven (also sugar cookies and cigarettes dont mix at all) this also goes for biting. I bite. So much.

7. Sensory OVERLOADS. I HAVE HAD TBOSE BEFORE APPARENTLY. Though absolutely they are rare. Is there a spectrum to how people deal with sensory overloads? I don't know and thats why I'm asking questions. I would be doing the dishes and the waters running the forks are clanging and the kids are screaming and the one little guy that I hate (sibling) is repeating the same phrase over and over in the most annoying way possible and I just can't take it anymore so I shut myself down to forcefully finish this task because I know what's going to happen if I don't and eventually in a groggy something something morning voice I tell him to shut the fuck up and it helps. If he listens.

8. For as long as I've known, I love food. And I have recently known, food equals a pattern in household. Not only food but the day has a type of pattern as well, and it directly connects to the type of food too. In simple terms so I don't spill guts along with blood, to little, irritable, find other ways to find needed things, a lot, the days okay and conversations light.

9. I have come to the epiphany that eggs are my comfort food. It doesn't matter how their made most of the time I will eat eggs in nearly any form I have LITERALLY had a daily/weekly limit to how many eggs i make a day forced onto me because eggs are too expensive.

10. I cant remember shit but most importantly I cant remember where I put items sometimes almost immedietly after I either set it down or look at something that has relative importance. I have forgotten I put my pencil in my backpack literal seconds after I put it in there, and mutual can attest to my lack of remembering exactly what I said unless it had great importance or funny capacity.

11. I have been stimming for as long as I have known and before I knew what stimming even was. Flappy hands and unusual sounds. I liked the sound of a whistle so much I ended up creating my own verbal stim that I used to this day. (Learned how to whistle a year later)

12. Masking. From what I was exposed to and understand its basically the ability to put on a mask and different facade for the general public compared to what was within, until 6th grade I actually barely had freinds (was really nice, had no/2 enemies in my life(very weird one was a literal frenemy)) and often was just walking around until I played games with others because those had rules and didn't involve too much small talk and I was happy to play in those games. But that was it. Then in 6th grade I gained the facade of happy and chill guy that never really got sad, the works.

This is not all but enjoy the blood sweat and tears of this... whole thing. I'm confused im tired and I'm simply trying to figure things out.

I think some people fail to realize that within fandom there will always be cases where people have an idea for a character within it that has literally nothing to do with that character's canon material but provides an interesting look at the media in question anyway

If we only allow what is canon or at least moderately connected to canon to dictate fandom then the majority of fanfiction would go away, because a significant amount of fanfiction is taking canon and changing shit to see how that changes the story, changes how things play out, changes the other characters, and honestly it is a massively important thing that we do that because it provides insight into storytelling in a whole different manner

A good example to me is My Hero Academia, we are given a decent amount of info and a fair amount of other stuff is implied but really could go one way or another

Within the anime (and the manga too for sure but since I haven't read it I won't be speaking to that right now) All Might is a good guy, an incredible hero, though also a bit of an idiot

Within fandom he can become more paternal and caring, increase his intelligence from what we are seen, become more of an idiot, or even become a bad guy, none of which is given in canon, some of it is implied of course but fandom takes these things to a level source material often cannot

In the end though even the most extreme mischaracterization can still provide interesting insight into the story, the characters, or even just provides a different way the story COULD have gone

For example, I watched the show a number of times and really liked All Might though I did question a number of his choices, and to be fair I still do like him, but now I look at him in a deeper way thanks to fanfictions I've read

We know All Might was once quirkless himself, he has to know a bit about what it is like to be so even with the time that has passed, and even so he crushed Midoriya's dream and left him on the roof of a building. Now Midoriya is forgiving and this is his idol so it's understandable he might not bring this all up to All Might or hold it against him, but we as the audience should take this into account

We should also take into account that he is the Number 1 hero and he didn't provide medical attention to someone just attacked by a villain, harmed the kid himself in the take down, proceeded to slap the kid awake, and then just planned to take off immediately afterwards

Yes he is on a time limit and this furthers the plot but the point of deep dives into characters in fandoms is to look at the actions we are presented with as the audience and take information from it, off the bat we often take in what is wanted, but on further revisits certain things should be questioned and looked at for what they could mean

And none of this even begins to look at complete AUs where the people are totally changed in some manner

Yes I don't always like reading these either but some are superbly well done even though they may bear little resemblance to the original source material, and they still can actually provide an interesting take on media you may already hold an interest with because some of the source material always leaks through and when it does it can and does provide insight into their canon actions while also showing how other people think about things

Mischaracterization isn't a flaw within fandom, it's a feature, if you want canon, canon is available to you, and there will always be those who want to discuss that but once you get into the parts of fandom where you see fanfiction (or even fan art or other such things) you are going to see these things because it's about expanding on what we are provided, fanfiction wouldn't exist without it because then they'd just be copying out what is already present which violates copyright and to an extent the same is true of things like fan art as well (I'm fixating on fanfiction more because you can create a decent amount of fan art with limited mischaracterizations, whereas that isn't as much the case with fanfiction where again if you only follow canon there is only a few things you can do that separate it from just copy down canon word for word)

Finally I'd like to point out as well that with the different ways everyone views the world around them there will ALWAYS be things where you interpret something one way while someone else interprets it another, that doesn't necessarily mean it is mischaracterization, it just means that you have different view points which is part of the whole point of analyzing these things, to see the different ways things CAN be interpreted

For example the curtains could be blue due to sadness or it could be a favorite color or it could be intelligence or any of the other many meanings the color blue is tied to, the point of analyzing what you take in is that you look at everything and say what you think based on that and then listen as someone else explains why it might be something else and see if you can tell why they think that and if you could agree or not

Even if some is categorically wrong in their interpretation you can still learn and gain insight from that, if not about the content in question then at minimum about the other analyst

TLDR: Mischaracterization isn't a flaw of fandom, it is a purposeful feature that plays an interesting and vital role not only to the fandoms themselves but to looking that the ways we tell stories and create characters

So you agree that Dahmer and Blonde were exploitative and gross but you still support p&t? please explain, how is it any different? I'm not even being snarky, just genuinely asking.

Mind you that this is the last time i talk about this simply because we are over this era and im not interested in talking about it now again! So it’s gonna be a long one 😁 im replying this because if you are new you could have missed the p&t talking.

So, no. I don’t fully support any of these projects.

But I think here we have three different but similar situations:

1. Blonde. The easiest one. One of the worst movie ever made. It’s genuinely bad under every aspect, even the more technical ones: directing and writing. Ana’s performance is half good half a parody (and she didn’t even sing herself..) but the rest is so awful that she managed to be the best part of the movie.

Blonde is based on a FICTIONAL book about a dead woman that can’t reply or express her opinion anymore and that has been the subject of thousands of projects now. It’s directed by a man and you can fucking tell it. It contains a pro-life campaign and a first p.o.v blowjob scene. The story in general is not accurate because again the book is fictional

2. Dahmer. From a technical perspective is good. You lie if you say it is not. Ryan Murphy can do his job well especially if the stuff he has in his hands is depraved and about real people (probably because he actually is not a great screenwriter). Evan did his job very well.

Sadly everything else was wrong. Idk who actually thought it was a good idea to make this series tbh. This time the victims’ families ACTUALLY loudly complained about the series and the fact that seeing themselves portrayed onscreen made the re-live the trauma.

It was also labelled under the “LGBT+” tag on Netflix (to be clear this tag is also applied to series like Heartstopper). Now. Do you think a black gay man would enojy to see Dahmer, a series found under the “LGBT+” tag on Netflix?

Last but not the least … actually the most important point: the victimisation of Dahmer. Choosing to show him as a baby and a child and the problem his parents had as a sort of justification of his crimes…

(And at these stuff can we add the absolute imbecility of the people who glamorised that criminal, treated him like and idol, made his “halloween costume” go sold out, etc?)

3. Pam and Tommy. Pam and Tommy seems a fucking joke compared to the previous two. It has its huge problems, to me the most important one is how they handled the press tour (bad) and Sebastian himself who should have shut is pretty mouth up. Lily too tbh.

For the rest , it’s a well made series with great musics and great performances. It actually stands by the two victims while showing you one of them was (at least at the time) a bad person. (Mind you that the series was about the sex tape being stolen not their marriage issues, some people didn’t get that). The impact on Pamela is so big that you can’t justify Seth Rogen’s character at the end of it which is good.

Thank god Pamela can say her version: she actually had a documentary in works for two years before the series was released… on the same platform who produced Dahmer. Oh the irony.

On a less ironic note, of course she has the right of saying whatever she wants. She is capitalising on it as well (good for her)

One thing I didn’t like about this is how people were so so quick on defending her without knowing how a bad person she is… and treated sebastian (just him… the other people who worked on it apparently get a pass) like he is the devil or something. While of course he did some mistake im convinced some reaction were a bit too much
