Title: Just Let Me Get These First.

Image Description: A pale, tan, winged fox with their back to the viewer. In them are multiple thin rods, with held in the fox's mouth and several others already on the ground. The fox has a nosebleed, there's a particularly bad rod protruding from between their wings and shoulder blades, one's in their throat, another in a joint in their foreleg, and several are in their gut. The fox's eyes are open and alert. The background is a soft mix of magenta and blue, causing the fox to pop but the rods to fade.

This is the third painting I made this weekend— I put the other two on my wall in places that would be inconvenient to photograph before thinking better of it. As for the idea behind this particular piece, it's basically Fork Theory; do what you can to make better what you can. For some personal examples, I keep a meal bar or emergency snack in all of my bags in case my guts start cramping (hormonal, I think— it happens regardless of how much I eat). I also always travel with a filled water bottle (keeps my vision from flicking black, gives me a means of easy oral stimulation, and helps keep the gunk in my throat to a minimum). Etcetera, etcetera. Taking care of what you can helps with what you can’t.

I initially intended the painting to be more triumphant or versatile, with the fox being full of mettle. It turned out a bit more defeatist than desired, not helped by the fact that menstruation hit like a truck this morning, leaving me unable to do basically anything for literal hours per weak limbs, painful nausea, and so on. It was the first time I had one really 'hit' for…I want to say a year? In any case, I am happy with how the painting turned out.
