I originally wrote this fic for the August Heat '23 Event Day 10 - Lactation, and it's now finished with 4 chapters in total :D Summary: It has been three days since a ghost attacked Lan Xichen and he still isn’t getting any better. The ghost has left traces of resentful energy behind that makes it impossible for him to regenerate his qi.

4. Hi! I’m sorry to bother you, but maybe you can help me? I’m looking for a fic where Wei Wuxian is fighting at what I remember to be Qiongqi Path. I think Jiang Cheng makes a smart remark (something like “Are you just gonna play your flute or you going to help us?!”) and Wei Wuxian stops playing his dizi long enough to give JC the finger… only for them to realise what it means that he’s stopped playing and a flute can still be heard. Not long after LWJ pulls Su She out of the foliage with the other flute.

Vaguely I remember it being a fix it fic where less people die than in canon.

5. hi!! i’m been looking for a fic for days. i read it forever ago but it’s during the cloud recess study arc and in it lan xichen realizes how awful the jiangs are treating wwx and tries to subtly convince him to leave tywng and stay in gusu bc he knows how much lwj likes him and he sees how talented wwx is and knows he would be a good asset for any sect to have. a specific scene i remember is that lxc would pretend to accidentally bump into wwx to talk to him. and they would go on walks and lwj saw it and got jealous. i think lxc was lowkey manipulative but in a way where he was doing it to make wwx care enough about himself to leave the jiangs. it was not jiang clan friendly at all. i kno this is so vague sorry about that. but it’s driving me crazy how i can’t find it when i know ive read it more then once. thanks for any help u can give

I remember Wei Wuxian maybe living in the jingshi, possibly teaching classes, but definitely going into Caiyi with Lan Wangji and during a festival Wangji wins a game and the prize is this ugly turtle statue that Wei Wuxian adores. It sounds like the last extra chapter. / Not saying there isn't a fic involving it, but #14 sounds a lot like the Yunmeng extra in book five, as well. Ring toss, ugly turtle statue, and Wei Wuxian considering pranking Lan Qiren included. The only difference is the location. Your searcher may have mistaken it for fic, especially if they read translations online. / #14 is one of the extra chapters from the actual novel (Extra 7 in the official English translation)

more self-indulgent jgy abo headcanons

I read a fic so long ago that I no longer remember the fandom nor characters involved, but the thing about it that really stuck in my mind was that it was an abo-verse fic that used the concept that omegas have an ingrained biological need for physical (including platonic) affection, to the point where “touch-starvation” was a medical diagnosis

this is obviously extremely up my alley for ALL my blorbos, but consider jin guangyao in particular:

unlike the usual ‘omega pretending to be a beta’ trope, I think that once he is established at jinlintai, he would not really try to let people assume that he’s a beta. being an omega leads people not only into underestimating him, but also into offering him a certain degree of safety in providing a veil of stereotype-associated demureness, placidity, etc. it is more to his benefit for people to see him as a polite young man, perhaps even one who, yes, is a war hero - but people can’t quite imagine what kinds of things he must have done for that. surely nothing too bad.

but at the same time, this is the character who couldn't even serve tea to people as nie mingjue’s deputy without people making a show of wiping off their fingers after touching the cups. people know he is an omega, people judge him for being an omega on top of all the other things he is already judged for, but I suspect that most of the relevant and appropriate people in jinlintai avoid touching him unless absolutely necessary. in a world where casual contact is thoroughly commonplace just due to the socialities set up by their biology, jin guangyao has a personal space bubble of like 2-3 feet because he's the dirty son of a prostitute.

he walks through the halls, ostensibly the second young master of the tower, and feels like he is drowning in the physical manifestation of loneliness.

who does he have left? family? jin zixuan is not close to him, and frankly is likely an alpha raised by alphas to whom it would not even occur to that such needs need to be minded. jin guangshan certainly is aware, but is using it as leverage, allowing and denying contact as he see fits to manipulate jin guangyao the same way he does with his fatherly affection. there are his sworn brothers, but his relationship with nie mingjue is fraught: certainly da-ge wouldn’t withhold contact as punishment or leverage, but that doesn’t mean he wants to touch jin guangyao anymore, nor does he really understand how the necessity of it feels when he grew up with nie huaisang, an omega who has never been shy about taking whatever affection he wants. and er-ge... he just isn’t around enough.

lan xichen is still the best option, and by the time they have the opportunities to see each other, jin guangyao is pressing nails into his palms to stop from just plastering himself up against lan xichen’s side, which surely would be humiliating for both of them. but still, he’s so aware of it any time they’re in the same room, meting out as many small touches as he can get away with without embarrassing himself. lan xichen slips his fingers over jin guangyao’s wrists as he pulls him up from a bow, intending warm affection. jin guangyao doesn’t want to let him know that it feels like being allowed to gasp for a single breath of air before his head is shoved back underwater.

(with nie mingjue, it is worse. da-ge is just as aware as jin guangyao is when they touch, but for all the worst reasons.)

it is the strangest blessing whenever jin guangyao sees nie huaisang. it’s embarrassing, a little - the knowledge that nie huaisang understands, unlike most people in jin guangyao’s life. but nie huaisang takes that embarrassment onto his own self willingly, never hesitating before making a fool of himself in the way that only a terminally younger brother can, and simply flinging himself into his san-ge’s arms. it’s nostalgic, too: nie mingjue isn’t quite so aware of how important touch is with how proactive nie huaisang can be, and so during his days as deputy, it was often nie huaisang who gave meng yao what he could not ask for.

the cultivators at jinlintai look down on him just as the ones in the unclean realm did, but now there is no willing young master to soothe away the tangible, physical ache of it. more often than not, jin guangyao tucks his hands into his sleeves to hide the way his fingertips shake.

anyway this is my petition for jiang yanli to take two looks at this situation and promptly wrinkle her brows just the slightest amount, expressing quiet concern to jin zixuan that it’s strange how she doesn’t see anybody touch his half-brother very much, does she? and jin zixuan is a little confused, a little embarrassed, a little off-balance - he doesn’t feel close enough to jin guangyao to be that casual, but he’s an alpha, he doesn’t get it until jiang yanli explains to him, with a beta’s patience, the value of family bonds to an omega as well as jin zixuan’s responsibility as a brother (older brother? younger? his father claims older, but there’s no way to truly know - ), and isn’t it wonderful, having a little brother?

and then someone pats jin guangyao over the head until he’s feeling a little less strung-thin and out of options, he realizes he has to keep jin zixuan and jiang yanli alive lest he actually lose his mind (sympathy for da-ge? oh no...), and etc etc things end happily ever after, the end, QED.

Hehe, I am thinking that JC got tangled in some shenanigans that keep following Wei Wuxian, and in effect got sent to some other dimension where everything is the same but isn't.

And now WWX has to go and retrieve him - and for that ends up going through quite a few realities in a "Where isy my shidi?" adventure that places him face to face with a variety of Jiang Chengs and his own feelings of shame, guilt, love and anger towards his shidi.

He sees a Jiang Cheng who have lost their core and a one that didn't, ones that reclaimed his sect and one that was enslaved by Wen Zhuliu as some sick standin for his mom. One that saved Yanli and sacrificed his sect and one that never forgave Wei Wuxian (ohz so that's how his actual hate feels) and one that got over WWX's death and forgot (and that's how indifference feels, Wei Wuxian hates it!). There is a reality where JC didn't get a replacement core and Wei Wuxian was the Jiang Sect Leader who kept him under lock and key (and that Jiang Cheng was miserable, but didn't want to run away, as long as his Wei Wuxian loved him still...).

There is one where Jiang Cheng is married to Lan Xichen and they have kids??? (Wei Wuxian hates it! Hates it! Hates it!!! ....just can't explain why... His shidi would never...right? And what does it mean Jiang Cheng gave birth to the kids?? Oh gods, he never wants to have Lan Xichen sit him down for a sex talk ever again>_<!!! The alpha/omega sex sure is something!) That world unsettled him the most. How is it that Jiang Cheng is happily married here? How is it that Lan Xichen chose him to marry??? Doesn't he mind the awful personality and constant anger? His shidi is very pretty and great, and strong, but he is just like his mom and... Lan Xichen almost slaps him in the head in that universe. Which is scary, because Lan Xichen never gets angry to Wei Wuxian's memory. And on account of a joke? Wei Wuxian doesn't get it.

"If you stopped looking at him and trying to see his mother instead of the boy you grew up with." The big alpha tells him. "Then you'd understand."

And uh, yeah, that one kinda....stung a bit. Maybe that reality wasn't that bad - for Jiang chengttonhave someone who cared for him and understood him. For his shidi to have family again, one that loved him as he should be loved even if it didn't include Wei Wuxian. Even if his shidi had to birth babies and take that monstrous Lan pillar...(he hated it, hated it, heated it!!!)

It's still better, however, than the one reality Wei Wuxian stepped into that just... Didn't have Jiang Cheng of its own. One where he died at the hands of Wen Chao, where the Sunshot Campaign never even got off the ground, because their Wei Wuxian burned the Wen to the ground and salted the ashes. There's no Lan Sizhui there, no Wen Ning. Wen Quing died under his hands like all the others. There's no Yunmeng Jiang. Just Wei Wuxian full of rage and the world that lives in fear of him. What a miserable existence.

He left that world as fast as he could, sick to his stomach.

On the quest to reclaim his precious shidi.

imagine being stuck between the needy but generally carefree omega WEI WUXIAN and the jealous and insecure omega JIANG CHENG, being an alpha whom they playfully and not really pull from side to side — and things only get worse when LAN WANGJI also begins to show interest in you, which makes Lan Xichen interested in the alpha who was able to attract his brother's attention for the first time, who is characterized by indifference to anyone, no matter alpha, beta or omega.

you literally have to balance and try to build that chain where it will work at least a little normally, especially when you can feel others secretly watching with interest (which is forbidden in the Gusu Lan sect!) what 'your' omegas are doing and how you are trying to treat them, especially considering that none of them is an ordinary or normal omega, while you, well, are not at all from some 'special' status and do not have significant influence.

you really don't know what you were thinking when, instead of trying to run away or suppress, you agree to 'try' without hiding anything too much from them and the nature of this relationship, and even less do you understand what is happening when, despite some time of reflection and weighing decisions, you get their approval. but the fact that you're running between them like a prom-trotter at the same time is so stupidly funny and exciting that you don't mind, even if these 'dates' don't have any particularly romantic overtones.

... but the fact that you are subsequently forced to run away from the three potentially most dangerous omegas among cultivators, since 'love nonsense' has an untimely habit of looking like this only for you.

It wasn't like he was entirely fake. He was basically an omega, the only thing he couldn't do was to release and smell the pheromones, but who cared about that, right? He was way prettier than any omega he had ever met, he was good at staying home and being a gorgeous little eye candy, and he could even get pregnant if needed. Sure, he didn't want to get pregnant, but he could, even without being in heat, and that was the important part.

So, him, being sold to Lan Xichen as the perfect omega wife, was not-

It was fake as hell.

And now he was going to have to break the trust of the only other person he adored other than Nie Mingjue, something he never wanted to.

But how the hell he could have foreseen that it would be Lan Xichen who would buy him?! The softest, gentlest, sweetest and kindest alpha ever, who deserved the best omega wife ever, instead of the lying fake younger brother of his best friend.

"It's okay A-Sang. Xichen-ge is going to take a good care of you," Lan Xichen promised, caressing his hair as the car drove them through the city. Nie Huaisang was curled up in his lap, seeking out the warmth he had no right to feel and the lovely smell even his inferior nose could differentiate, and he sighed contently.

"Of course you will," he murmured half as an elated agreement and half as a sarcastic retort. Because Lan Xichen would do anything for his pretty omega wife he just brought for an obscene amount of money, especially when that omega wife was the supposedly kidnapped brother of his best friend.

Nie Huaisang was born as a beta. He was not the typical Nie, strong and obviously alpha even before the presentation. But, he could have been an omega. He was always sickly, loved arts and lazing around like a pretty housewife, and before the age of the presentation, he knew that was going to be his life goal: to be a pampered, prized omega of somebody who loved and adored him, somebody who would take care of him at least as good as his Da-ge did.

But he never presented.

And his dreams of becoming the trophy omega wife of a rich, adoring alpha husband was gone-

Until Nie Mingjue. Well, until Meng Yao, but that's basically the same thing. His Da-ge's lover and assistant - and, honestly, brain and better yet overall much worse half - decided they needed money for their feud with the Wens.

The Plan was to "kidnap" and "sell" Nie Huaisang to the highest bidder, and save him just after the transaction and before he could leave with his "new owner". It would have been easy. Meng Yao and Nie Huaisang were a terrifying and efficient team, it would have been an effortless task for them.

What they didn't count on was Lan Xichen and his annoyingly honorable self.

Nobody counted on that the man would want to help Nie Mingjue's "search" for his didi when he had other things to worry about. (Like his own didi and his omega not-wife.) Nor that he would actually find Nie Huaisang. And especially not that he would literally make Nie Huaisang the world's most expensive omega with his relentless pursuit to be the one who could buy Nie Huaisang and take him home.

That man was unreal.

And now that unreal, ridiculous, amazing, honorable and kind man was his alpha.

"Xichen-ge," he started, "why did you-?"

"Because..." Lan Xichen hesitated, his hand stopping its soothing motions. The fake omega whined, bumping his head into the gentle hand until the fingers returned to their soft scratches.

"So unreasonable," Nie Huaisang teased with a tiny giggle, but it really was unreasonable. He could have left him there. He could have called Da-ge. He could have done anything except for buying a useless, fake omega. (Well, he didn't know that part, but he didn't need to buy an omega! He was The Lan Alpha!)

"Being reasonable didn't get me were I wanted so far." He smiled, but it was something different from his usual ones. It was- darker, somehow. His smiles were always so neutrally pleasant, so pretty and empty, but that one... That one made Nie Huaisang's world shift and his heart beat faster.

"And being unreasonable did?"

The fingers tightened, lightly pulling on Nie Huaisang's hair, just enough it could be felt. "I have you now, don't I?"

Nie Huaisang's breath hitched and he swallowed back his moan. Lan Xichen as a dangerous individual was just too attractive for a pretty little beta like him to handle.
