Fem!Baron Zemo x Male Reader
For @wildcardjgambit
Tumblr media
It wasn’t supposed to be this way. You had gotten your daughter out of the blast zone that was the Battle of Sokovia. And yet with all the loss, it wasn’t enough for your wife Baroness Helga Zemo. Her heart had turned cold, cold enough to commit atrocities in the name of your home country. She wasn’t always this way.
She was your light, a loving wife and mother. And now you hardly recognize the woman that stands before you behind several inches of bulletproof glass, bound in a straight jacket.
“Why?” is all you can ask.
“I did it for our home, the people we lost.” she answers back, tears streaming down her face. “Where’s my baby?”
“S-she couldn’t make it” you lied. The truth was that when little Marie saw her mother’s image up on the news screen with the words terrorist written across it. It broke her little heart, “that’s not my mommy” she cried.
You didn’t have much else to say to Helga, you just slipped her the papers you were dreading to deliver. You hoped it would never come to this but it wasn’t much left for a marriage nor was it the best life for your daughter.
Helga sighed and signed them. “I don’t regret what i did” she whispered as she slid them through the opening to you. “they took everything from us”
“And I tried to rebuild it for you. I don’t blame the Avengers. I just wish you had thought of Marie and I.”
And with that, you turned and left. The microphone allowing you to communicate with Zemo was shut off. And a good thing too, because if it was still on, you would’ve heard her cries of anguish.
The helicopter left the Raft, with you aboard. It dropped you off not far from the border of Sokovia. You found yourself feeling empty but you were ready to rebuild.
You found yourself at a nearby coffee shop, just trying to plan out yours and Marie’s next step. Your thoughts ran rampant when suddenly someone spoke up.
“Excuse me” a young Sokovian woman asked you, “is this seat taken? Everywhere else is full”
“Sure” you gave her a gentle smile, “I’m just planning things out”
“I know the feeling” the redhead smiled back
“Sorry I’m (Y/N)” you offered your hand. She took ahold of your hand and shook it gently.
“Wanda. Wanda Maximoff”
You felt something jump within you when your hand shook hers. You’re not sure if it was the spark of something or maybe rather just finding solace with a fellow survivor. Maybe that’s all it had to be.

Wait , you're saying the MCU had a whole slew of pre-existing fictional Eastern European ministates to choose from and made up a brand new Sokovia instead? Why?
Good question!
It's a little hard to say, because this was way back during the Perlmutter years and Ike made weird decisions like that all the time.
My guess is this:
Because this long predated the Fox deal, Marvel couldn't use the comics origin in which Wanda and Pietro were mutants and the children of Magneto. Remember, this was back when there were duelling Quicksilvers and the MCU couldn't say the word "mutant." Thus, they didn't want to hew too closely to the best-known version of the Transia backstory. Now, they could have still gone with some of the weirder versions - like the one in which they're the kids of the Whizzer and Miss America, or the ones in which they were granted powers by the High Evolutionary's experiments, but...
At the same time, Perlmutter was pushing very hard for everything in the MCU to tie into the Infinity Stones - hence the heavy interference with Thor's storyline in Age of Ultron - which meant that he wanted Wanda and Pietro's powers to come from the Infinity Stones, and that's where we got the whole unfortunate business with HYDRA.
At the same time, Marvel didn't have the rights to the Fantastic Four either - those belonged to Fox. That means that the MCU couldn't use the most prominent Marvel Eastern European country, Latveria, either.
So I think the decision was made to go with a new country that would be a blank slate that gets us to a weird place where Baron Zemo was still a Sokovian villain, but not HYDRA for some reason.

Hello MCU fandom, I'm really bored now and I'm also pissed at Marvel for not knowing shit about countries and their developments so in retaliation I've decided to make my own version of where Sokovia would be located as a fellow Slav.
I'm pretty sure it would have been somewhere around what we know as Vojvodina today, and Vojvodina is really diverse, it's a melting pot basically, so it does make sense. And the Cyrillic they used was Serbian as some people on Reddit pointed out.
Y'all I'll develop an entire lore about Sokovia I'll go crazy I know it, but I swear I'll get it to reach Feige one day.

you can see me?
Tumblr media
pietro d. maximoff x reader
the language i'm having him speak instead of sokovian is serbian.
'think i forgot how to be happy...' 'something i'm not, but something i can be.' What was I made for - Billie Eilish fron the motion picture "Barbie"
'she lies and says shes in love with him' 'can't find a better man.' Better Man - Pearl Jam
you can see me? in chronological order.
information. chapter one: death day.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The world was cold. Not warm and welcoming as her grandmother said it would be, all she could hear was the soft music of Pearl Jam from her room as she looked at the body she once had, the body that was being held by her twin, after being murdered by her boyfriend.
Her breathing became erratic as she was screaming for her brother, her voice not even making a sound in the living. She couldn't feel, she can't feel the coolness of the room, can't feel the cold ground her body laid.
People you love don't kill, why is she here then? Her brother's choked out sobs rang in her ears and she couldn't do anything...She tried to put a hand on his shoulder, and hug him but she just went through him.
Then she looked and saw a man, tall, well built...very well built. He had bright, almost white hair and brown roots, soft blue eyes and a but of stubble...
He got on his knees, and in a Sokovian accent, he said softly.
"I am so sorry..." He mumbled as he looked at the woman and her eye's widen.
"Y-you can see me?" She whispers and he gave a half smile and nodded.
"Well, we both are  dead." He sassed lightly and she gave a half smile and chuckled, then looked back at her brother. Her eyes are watery, and her normally sun kissed skin was pale, ghostly pale. The unknown man gently wrapped his arms around the womans body and she started crying.
So, now here she is.
Dead and crying into a dead strangers chest. He held her tightly as she sobbed, her just enveloped her in his arms as her tears soaked through his shirt. He placed a soft kiss of her forehead and held her.
He held her tightly, giving her something he desperately needed when he departed from his twin.
"Shh...то је у реду..." He muttered softly.
Tumblr media
He held the new soul, the cops took her body and her distraught brother. And after hours almost she finally pulled away, and sniffled.
"Sorry...Crying on you without even knowing your name..." He chuckled and she gave a soft half smile.
"Pietro, Pietro Maximoff." She paused and tilted her head curiously.
"Like...as in Wanda Maximoff's brother Pietro?" Her tone was soft, and delicate as she knew it could be a sensitive subject.
He nodded, his heart breaking at just the mention of his sister.
He hurt, and she could tell.
"I'm Y/n Y/l/n..." She said softly and she scooted a bit over and hugged him once more.
"Yeah...we did just meet, but, I'm here. Since it seems like your the only other soul that can see me." He smiles and hugged her tight.
Maybe after all these years of just wandering around, he can find solace.

The final act of this movie is so dark. Darker than the movie thinks it is, and the movie already thinks it's pretty dark.
Again. Confronting Tony's imperialism and reckless disregard for the opinions and sometimes wellbeing of others is what this movie was trying to talk about. In a well-written film, lessons would be learned and characters would grow and change their behavior, and this change in behavior would then be used to challenge and overcome the villain.
What happens in this final act? Tony Stark's rogue super-weapon destroys Sokovia. Effectively, the ending to this film is that Tony's bomb in the Maximoff bedroom ultimately does detonate, and we're just supposed to be happy that it only took out the city block.
The film got lost in trying to be epic and clever, shooting for global stakes instead of personal ones while abruptly unwriting the conflicts surrounding Tony specifically. And the result? The Avengers save a lot of individual lives and the planet isn't destroyed. But Tony's reckless super-weapon nonetheless unmakes a sovereign nation. And we're supposed to feel triumphant about it when Tony vaporizes half of the city to save the world.
Remember when the civilians were throwing bottles at the Iron Legion? Yeah. The deepest this commentary winds up going with its final message is, "Those people shouldn't have done that. The Iron Legion are the good guys. They're here to defeat the terrorists and keep us all safe."
The Sokovia battle lives down to the imperialist themes that the movie was originally trying to challenge.
And nowhere is that more poignant than in Bruce's final betrayal. Through this film, Bruce has been wrestling with being treated as a weapon. The Avengers used him in the first act. Wanda used him in the second act. And now, in the third act? Natasha betrays him and weaponizes him against his will.
Bruce's arc concludes with his fears validated. The idea that the Avengers are no better than Ross with regards to the Hulk? Proven true.
Tony Stark annihilates Sokovia and Natasha proves that Bruce was wrong to have ever trusted the Avengers. What a shitty way to end this story.

Hi - I’m really a big Wanda Stan, (not a toxic Wanda One - I promise!) I’m literally so obsessed w her character so I did a drawing of her in her full Scarlet Witch form from MOM!
(Yes, this also includes non-ytwashed Comic accurate Romani/Jewish Wanda - love her too! Lizzie’s performance is fantastic but make no mistake that comic Wanda is THE OG we deserved too ❤️)

It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize Sokovia wasn't a real country. And I found out by trying to look up what continent it was in that it is, in fact, fictional
