Help me decide what podcast to listen to next!! :D
These are all shows I’ve had saved for a while, but haven’t gotten around to listening to. They’re also relatively short, so getting caught up with them will be pretty easy for me!
Feel free to defend your pick in the replies/comments/tags. If you don’t recognize any of them, you can pick based on which title sounds coolest, or just show results if you want :) I’ll also put my favorite shows in the tags so you can get a sense of what I like!

Wishlist-entry -- another one taken from my previous version of this blog!
Technically I guess this is a thing that can only really work between Robin and Starfire, I guess, but I’ll still list it simply as wishlist-item.
Basically, inspired by this image (and this one though the first one was what gave me this wish) - an AU kind-of thing where Robin and Starfire meet while they’re still kids, while he’s still in the circus!
(Some more blabber about details below the cut)
My currently most prominent idea for Star being there would be that the happenings I wrote in her origin story simply took place much earlier (probably with a few alterations here and there, haven’t really thought through the details yet), and she still escaped from the ship that was taking her, still heading to Earth, and finding cover underground, hidden enough that the Gordanians weren’t able to locate her again. She of course doesn’t know if they’re gone yet or still searching, and she also doesn’t know anything about the planet she had come to, so she stays hiding, only sneaking out when there isn’t much ruckus/noise above to take some things that might be food, to survive. And one day, a lot of noise is happening above her - a circus sets up above, and she sees the very changed surroundings the first time when sneaking out during less noises (say during a show or something, as most happenings would then be focused on the actual show). She again only takes food and goes into hiding again, day after day, but one of these days while the circus is above, someone seemed to have heard her. An opening in the ground above, someone was lowered down, and the tamaranean girl stared at the stranger who just found out about her hiding here.
She’d need to learn the language, which (unless he can stop her) she definitely would do through lip-contact as it is the way of a tamaranean to do it. (Or, if you really don’t want this, we could have her slowly learn the language for whatever reason? Isn’t what she would do though so I’d need some reason for her not doing the lip-contact. Maybe we can say she left Tamaran before learning how to properly do that - I usually assume they learn it pretty early, but we can change that around for here) I picture that in this situation, she isn’t able to access much of her powers, both because of missing her family and her home, being in a whole new, strange place and alone, and also because she just hasn’t had much positive emotions for a bit. I’d see Robin introducing her to earthen things, maybe at first still letting her hide longer, but eventually (maybe because the circus is about to move on?) convincing her to stop hiding, maybe join him and his parents (or he ‘hides’ her from his parents, or everyone, but still offers her a place to stay? maybe with the animals if hiding is better possible there? idk really). As they bond more and more, she would eventually be able to slowly gain access to her powers again.
I won’t go into more details here, but yes, I think this AU would be absolutely adorable and really interesting to play through. Of course there would be more things if we play through the ages, like once that with his parents and Batman taking him in happens I’d have to figure out what I (or we) have be with Star - but all of that is stuff I don’t wanna go detailed into for now. I just wanted to write this down as a wishlist thing too.

Research: Warren Street and Great Portland Street
Part of the project is to become an expert in what we are photographing. Like I said in my previous post, I want to walk around London and take photos of different stations and then learn the history behind them.
I'll start with Warren Street Station. It opened in 1907 and serviced the Northern Line. It was originally called Euston Road but that name didn't last more than a year. And in 1968, Warren Street was added to the Victoria Line as a means of breaking up the distance between Oxford Circus and Euston. Over the years, the usage of this station has gone down, however in 2012, it was the first Underground Station to have Wi-Fi.
Tumblr media
Great Portland Street Station opened as one of the original stations on the Metropolitan line in 1863, making it one of the oldest stations on the entire system. It was originally named Portland road before making the switch to Great Portland Street in 1933. The building is historic as it is built on what was once waste ground and a traffic island. The architecture including the elliptical shape and high rotundas has earned it Grade II historical status in England. You can see in the photo below that Great Portland Street has an old brick structure on the platforms, showing it's age.

Here’s Security Breach FT Freddy! And a little Bon Bon to boot.
Below is some headcanons I have made up so far
•He was the Ringmaster of the Funtime Circus (Now Roxy Raceway)
•him BIG (not DJ MM big but he’s bigger than the Glamrocks)
•him BIG (not DJ MM big but he’s bigger than the Glamrocks)
•Has the same AI as ol FunTime Freddy so it’s basically still him but in a swanky new body.
•He has vague memories of the past.
•still has quite a temper and an obsession with death though he really only talks to Bon Bon and Bonnet about it.
•LOVES true crime and forensic shows
•Has quite a big Ego. Every ringmaster outfit he has MUST be as grand as him. His favorite is the one depicted in the art above.
•You can imagine he wasn’t pleased when he found out the Company was making the Glamrocks.
• Got even more angry when they were gonna move his Circus to make Roxy Raceway
•Sun/Moon used to be a part of the FunTime Circus before it was decommissioned and he was made the new Daycare Attendant.
•dislikes older teens and adults. He prefers being around kids. They LOVE his jokes and comedy bits.
•slips in some more adult jokes that go right over the kids’ heads every so often. Some parents get offended but most lose it laughing. He may not like adults but he’s and Entertainer first and foremost.
•rage grew when the S.T.A.F.F tried to get him to introduce himself as “The Ringmaster” rather than “Freddy”; injured a few in his outburst over it.
•barely met GlamFreddy once and took a swing at him within the first five minutes. He scares the younger animatronic
•also kinda hates Roxy cuz of the Raceway taking over his space.
•the final straw was when after a performance a jackass teen grabbed Bon Bon by his ears and actually broke one of them.
•Freddy flew into an absolute rage and nearly killed the teen. Bon Bon and Bonnet couldn’t even get him to calm down
•started going after other guests and S.T.A.F.F but was brought down by the Emergency Enforcement Animatronic before he could do more harm.
•was decommissioned afterwards
•Never was afflicted by Vanny’s virus.
•wanders the pits and underground looking for Bon Bon and Bonnet.

DickTim Week 2021: Day 5 Winged!Talon Tim au
So. another dual prompt and I really regret nothing about this one tbh. I took tomorrow’s Talon and today’s Wings and made a Winged!Talon!Tim fic. Of course, I talked to the wonderful babes on Capes & Coffee about a what if combination and this just, whew. Careful, it might break your heart a little, but damn if it isn’t an interesting idea.
Not beta read, so don't be a hater :D
Previous Talon!Tim universe posts: The initial idea, Babe and I talking it out, Talon Training Ask, Ra’s vs the Court, Talon and Ra’s, Talon and Ra’s take 2, Talon and Shiva short.
**
Watching B take on the new and improved Talon is really the entertainment of the year.
Once upon a time it had taken all of them plus more to take down as much of the Court of Owls as humanly possible. Of course, like rats, the Bats knew there would be no way to get the entire Court or all the Talons, not when the upper echelons of Gotham had spent the better part of 200 years creating, storing, training, and obtaining more.
Politicians were investigated, corrupt cops removed, and criminals burrowed underground once word of what the capes did to save the day got passed around.
For the first time in years, crime in Gotham was at an all time low.
But, as the coin flip dictates, nothing good lasts forever. Trouble is always brewing below the surface to eventually rise to the top and try to take over.
Case in point:
The Bats of Gotham have come up against a new threat wearing the signature Talon armor, and the call goes out to all available capes for help taking on the undead mercenary before another crime family ends up in the Obituaries rather than Blackgate.
The fact the Court is still up and running after the Batfamily took them down in a fiery blaze that ended with all their Talons gone, Sensei exposed, and most the ruling families imprisoned or poisoned by Lincoln March, is like a kick to the abdomen after they closed that particular book. Worse, with a new Talon soldier is sighted running around Gotham, another circus kid has been kidnapped and turned into the right hand of the Court of Owls. Dick, with his absolute survivors guilt, is the one to make going after the Talon and whoever is still behind the scenes a top priority.
Which is how they find themselves in the middle of Knight’s Stadium facing down a Talon that is too short to be March. Red Hood, Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl, and Black Bat pretty much got their asses handed to them in the first twelve minutes. Pretty hard to understand until you take into account the new and improved Talon facing them now is terrifying in a completely different way than most undead assassins are.
He knows them.
He knows them in ways that lets him fight fast and furious with vicious accuracy, striking at weaknesses few of the vigilantes of Gotham realized they even had.
He isn't as big as Lincoln or even Cobb, not nearly as old. He hasn't been kept in cryostasis waiting for the next generation to need his skills. He doesn't have creaks in his joints from being put on deep freeze too many times.
This one is silent and efficient, obviously trained in multiple types of martial arts, is highly proficient with or without the standard Talon knives, is a master tactician, counters the majority of their moves with alarming consistency–
and the fucking Talon has wings.
Honest-to-God wings.
Everyone had assumed the metal monstrosities on his back were weapons of some kind, but the glint of steel in the streetlight flash a warning before the lumps moved in an arch, extending far out past his shoulder blades, slicing into Red Hood’s body suit with a razor-sharp edge, shredding the armor like paper.
It’s not enough he’s got weapons obviously made specifically for his skill set, it’s not enough he’s an assassin and doesn’t hold to the same standards of non-lethal combat, it’s not enough that he can use his wings to fly or to fight like he’s using another limb to kick the shit out of them, and it’s not enough that he effortlessly counters so many of their attacks that he has to have some kind of inside information on all of them and their fighting styles.
The knives are definitely a thing when the Talon can throw them hard enough to penetrate parts of their suits in between armored plating, which further drives the theory that this is a person they’ve dealt with before. Intimately. Few people in the world know how their suits are made. Even more, few people know particulars enough when their suits are constantly reconstructed.
The only thing on their side that tipped the scales in their favor–
–the Batman.
The wings threw him off his game, obviously, but not enough to stop B from holding his own with swift and merciless force.
It's like watching a dance of fast and furious fists, blades in Talon's hands glinting deadly in the night, finding B's suit over and over and over until he's made it to blood and bone. He takes every hit the Batman can dish out, head snapping back, left, and right with the volley of jaw-breaking blows and bone-shattering kicks.
None of it gives the Talon pause. When a move makes him drop a blade, another is already in hand, cutting into their body suits, wings flipping out to defend or distract, sweeping moves and well coordinated attacks.
The unnatural appendages are like another arm, another leg, an extension working on the same central nervous system, regardless as to how the Court managed to make it happen.
A jump kick off a trash can is a lucky shot as a wing catches B in the ribs hard enough to knock him into the wall of Mike's Famous Hotdogs. The only thing saving the Dark Knight from a concussion or permanent brain damage is the plating in his cowl.
It gives the Talon enough time to make a final bid for a battered Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin struggling to their feet again, eyes for their fallen mentor.
Before he can lunge forward to start the attack yet again, the Talon just stops, pauses like he’s stuck or something, and in the span of a breath, both wings extend fully, flap powerfully once to propel him up into the Gotham night.
O tries her best to track his flight through the city, but no one’s arms are working well enough to toss a tracker on him.
She loses him over Cape Carmine, slams her palms against her system in frustration, makes sure she gets as much footage from the confrontation as possible.
After some sleep and a whole lot of bandages and ice packs, the Bat family meets in the Cave to watch the footage, breakdown the Talon’s fighting style, his weaponry, and make theories on his identity.
O helps out with readings she has of electronic pulses she managed to capture coming from the armor over his wings. She thinks she might be able to use it to track him if they can get close enough for her equipment to ping the signal again.
B makes a trip to Arkham since Freeze apparently hasn’t stopped producing the formula used to put Talons in cryostasis.
It’s not until Gotham’s power grid has a massive surge that O and the Bats can pinpoint a possible location, all of them invested in one hell of a fight to get the last rats still scurrying in the underground.
The plan of attack comes together smoothly once they’ve scoped out the location, seen the shady activity, and together, they make one hell of a plan.
**
And because, you know, Gotham, it is completely normal for the Court of Owl's headquarters to have a skylight.
Natch.
For this one, they've got Batgirl and Black Bat, Red Hood and Robin, Nightwing and B, a real family affair.
O's quiet voice over comms leading them through the maze of traps and empty rooms, abandoned libraries and spooky ball rooms. The laboratory isn't the most horrific they've all ever seen (because the Joker's summer place is literally the stuff of nightmares), but a few of them do gag on the smell alone.
The plan, however, goes horribly awry when the clear sounds of tormented screaming echoes from right under their reinforced bootheels.
Black Bat's fists clench hard, her breathing wheezes out when the tone, the utter agony goes right through her.
A shudder slides up Robin's spine as all of them turn toward the noise.
Without a flicker or a word, the Batman moves, strafing in the shadows toward the sound. He can't assume it's an innocent civilian with something the Court wants, but he's betting on the fact that scream will lead them to whoever is running the show.
The medieval room has bars and reinforced locks, implements hanging on the wall. The cement brick is stained rust colored with old blood, the vestiges of training, and the awful realization they've found another hidden niche in the city that always existed right under their noses is punctuated with the abrupt drop in temperature, with the sudden charge in the air, with the zzzzcrack snapping beyond the door, replaced with a muted buzzing Robin can feel in his back teeth.
B is already on his way to the roof, Batgirl down through the floor vent while Nightwing picks the locks with fast precision, knocking the tumblers around.
Robin and Red Hood stay close to the reinforced door, balancing on the balls of their feet, katana and .45s at the ready.
Black Bat takes the high road, ceiling tiles giving way under her Bat-a-rang. She gives a sharp nod before she's up and gone.
"All right. Ready?" Nightwing stands, cracks his neck, flips his escrimas in both hands, works his shoulders to prepare for the strain of each blow he plans to give.
"Ya betcha ass," Hood murmurs low, a cut figure with both guns at his sides, gloved fingers on the trigger guard.
"Don't disappoint," Robin snarls, "either of you."
"Nice pep talk, squirt," Nightwing snickers.
"Tt, back up your mouth with action."
"Better shuddap, Demon. Golden Boy ain't fuckin' 'round. Neither is the Bat. We get one more chance a' this asshole. We ain't gonna blow it again, ya feel me?"
"Finally, something we agree on, Hood."
"Other than N's shitty mullet?"
Nightwing swiftly glares at them both over his shoulder, unconsciously putting himself front and center of the trio, ready to be the first in once they get the signal.
– which is the sound of the glass raining down from the heavens.
Three booted feet kick the door hard enough to take it off the hinges, lying against the faded stains like a fallen body.
First step in the room is the complete opposite to what they'd all been expecting.
The two Owl masks aren't the usual, but a perversion of the originals, crudely drawn yawning mouths complete with fangs dripping blood.
But.
The boy on his knees, arms in a binder holding the appendages hostage at a painful angle, is dripping the real thing. Rivulets down his chest and where his back is partially visible. Some from the base of the wings going into the back of his shoulder blades where the skin is torn and raw.
The bar gag shoved in his mouth doesn't take away from the splatters on his chin, the bruising on his face, the swollen eye. But it's his wings that makes the Bats falter from the initial rushing attack.
His wings are without the armor, are bound straight up above his restrained body with hooks grotesquely puncturing through the downy softness, desecrating the beauty with blood and gore. The angle makes the pull to his back where the wings are part of him just another agony on top of atrocity.
"Fuck," from the first Owl mask, and a swift move frees the Talon's bound arms, the appendages flopping uselessly to the floor, only his trapped, tortured wings keeping him up on his knees.
The second Owl shoves the first back, "let him take care of them. Let's get out of here!"
The first Owl snarls out something low and foreign, the phrases rolling off his tongue.
The words lock into place, and the Talon's head snaps up, snarling around the gag in his mouth.
When his face is finally, finally visible, the protectors of Gotham are frozen in their tracks.
Familiar violet-blue eyes, too-long blue-black hair, cut jawline and pointed nose. Tiny scar on his right cheek from the time he caught Ra's al Ghul's ring across the face.
"Jesus Fucking Christ," is barely heard through the Red Hood's synths and in no way fully expresses his utter horror at what these dirty motherfuckers have done.
Robin wretches, bile burning the back of his throat once those eyes swing up to the masked parody of the Owls and his bare upper body is visible through the blood and sweat on his chest, when the scars peeking through on his collar bones form a half-visible Y-incision, when the coloring of the bared wings now makes sense (robin's wings, Damian Wayne thinks with his heart beating pitter patter fast, and his stomach in knots, they put robin's wings on him...).
And the hurt, agonized noise coming out of Nightwing's chest is the only noise he can make when those dimmed, dazed eyes swing from the Owls back to the vigilantes frozen in their spots, when there's no spark of joy or fondness or stubbornness he's so used to seeing staring him down.
The errant thought, the first instinct, is the only humane way to deal with this new Talon is to put him down for good wars with the man behind the mask that only wants to reach out, wants to pull the Talon into his body and curve over, to scream at the injustice of it all, to rail at himself for not even suspecting.
Another switch flipped and the hooks release his wings, blood splattering on top the old stains.
"Get them! Don't fuck it up this time or you won't get another chance," the second Owl shoves the Talon's injured shoulder in the direction of the horrified vigilantes.
They don't even bother to take the gag out of his mouth before setting him on his target.
A flap of wings, and the Talon is on his feet again, swaying only slightly. He's in the boots and pants from earlier, the rest of his uniform tossed carelessly behind him by his tormentors. A sweep of his feet and the knives glint in bare palms, a whisper of a sound.
The curved, clawed blade glints in the overhead light when the Talon raises it and cuts the strap of the bar gag in his bloody mouth, turns his head to spit it out without looking away from the vigilantes.
The Batman, grim and stoic in the face of this surprising turn of events, gives the barest nod. From her hiding spot behind the complex machinery, Black Bat takes off after the running Owl members, leaving the rest of the family to deal with their former third Robin.
The wings flinchingly flare out and their former bird hunches over, ready for the attack.
“Wait! Wait, wait, wait,” the Red Hood removes the helmet, leaves the domino underneath. He keeps one hand out in peace, slowly dipping down to put his helmet on the ground. “Is us, Tim. Timmy. Baby Bird. Is us. Yer family. Gotta lookit us, yeah?”
For the first time, the Talon speaks, “who’s Tim?”
And then he lunges.
**
The fight happens very differently this time.
The former power behind the punches is obviously dulled with the Talon’s identity reveal. He doesn’t hold back, is utterly ruthless with his attacks. He takes out B’s right knee, puts Hood down on the stained floor, knocks Robin into the wall with crushing force, and slams Batgirl’s head off the operating table.
He stands over Nightwing, wicked blade in hand and robin’s wings spread wide. He takes a knee, the sharp edge right above N’s adam’s apple, staring down impassively into the whiteouts.
“Timmy,” N spits blood, grunting when one knee pins his arm down. “Timmy, please. I’m sorry. I’m so so sorry. I love you and I’m sorry they did this to you.”
Those eyes don’t change in the slightest. “You should not have tried to oppose the Owls.”
“We beat them once,” Nightwing gasps, “and you helped us, Baby Bird. You were with us then, don’t you remember.”
“I was nothing before the Court perfected me,” the Talon replies emotionlessly.
“You were perfect before they ever touched you.”
“No,” and the Talon leans down, puts them a breath away. “The only thing you and those others do is put the criminals back in prison, back in Arkham for them to escape again, for them to kill and destroy over and over again. Like this, I can stop them permanently.”
“Oh Timmy,” and behind the whiteouts, Nightwing’s eyes spill over, his vision wavery. “Timmy–”
“Don’t call me that. Stop calling me that.”
“You know me, you know us. You have to remember–”
“Lies. All of it lies!”
Nightwing’s chest stutters, his fist clenching, “it’s not. None of it is. Not even this–”
And he’s fast enough to grab the back of the Talon’s neck, to lean up enough against the blade pressed against his throat, can bring their mouths together, can kiss him like he’s dying and the Talon is the only thing that can save him.
It’s sloppy and awkward because the Talon doesn’t know what’s happening, gasps against the vigilante’s mouth. The tongue sliding over his, the muffled moan in his mouth sparks something in the back of his brain where the Court of Owls could never touch.
When Nightwing pulls back, stares up at wide violet-blue eyes, when the blade falls away to clatter against the block, when the Talon’s mouth trembles and tears fill his eyes, when his wings flutter and falter, fold in on them both, when his voice goes hoarse with, “D-Dick?” Nightwing throws both arms around his waist and holds on.

This week on Passionate Reply: We all know “Don’t You Want Me,” but the early Human League is a totally different beast, featuring a different line-up, and songs about killer clowns and wanting to be a skyscraper, on their debut LP, 1979′s Reproduction. Transcript below the break!
Welcome to Passionate Reply, and welcome to Great Albums. In this installment, we’ll be investigating one of the most surprising debut LPs around: The Human League’s Reproduction, first released in 1979.
Pretty much anyone with a general understanding of Western pop will already know the name of the Human League, and associate them, rightfully, with their early 80s hits like “Don’t You Want Me.” For many, the Human League were the first genuine synth-pop that they had ever heard, and their work in the 1980s has been immeasurably influential in bringing the notion of electronic pop into the mainstream. But before they were hitmakers and game-changers, the Human League were a very different band.
Music: “Being Boiled”
“Being Boiled” was the first thing the Human League would ever press to wax, way back in 1978. In most respects, this track is everything that “Don’t You Want Me” is not: its pace is languid, its structure is shapeless and meandering, and rather than a simple and relatable love story, its lyrics offer us a strange and opaque condemnation of the tortures endured by silkworms during textile production. While fascinating, and endearing in its own morbid way, “Being Boiled” does not exactly scream “hit record.” The Human League were not only a different band in a stylistic sense, but also with respect to their personnel, driven by a creative core comprised of budding synthesists Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh. Prior to the release of the breakthrough album Dare, Marsh and Ware would abandon the group over creative differences, and go on to form Heaven 17 instead. It was vocalist Phil Oakey, and producer Martin Rushent, who would create the sound that their name is now so strongly associated with, and this early incarnation of the group is probably best thought of as an entirely different entity. This album, Reproduction, was their first full-length release, and is perhaps the best introduction to their pioneering sound.
Music: “Circus of Death”
“Circus of Death” had appeared as the B-side to “Being Boiled,” and was included once more as the second track on *Reproduction.* It has a lot in common with the other track it accompanied: a plodding pace, a dark and obtuse lyrical theme, and a sparse, fully electronic instrumentation. The Human League were among the first British groups to utilize a totally electronic sound, devoid of any traditional instruments besides the voice, though in this underground and more experimental context, it doesn’t present a threat to the status quo of pop the way that Dare would a few years later. Alongside fellow proto-industrial acts associated with "the Sound of Sheffield," like Clock DVA and Cabaret Voltaire, they dwelt on the fringes of good taste, crafting subversive music for subversive people. “Circus of Death” introduces us to a demonic figure called “the Clown,” who controls, and torments, human beings by use of a drug called “Dominion,” in a scenario that sounds a bit like Huxley’s Brave New World. It’s worth remembering that while younger generations are quick to think of clowns as icons of evil and terror, clowns were unironically beloved as bringers of joy for most of the 20th Century, and these early portrayals of clowns as killers were indeed shocking at the time. Preceding “Circus of Death,” and opening the album, is “Almost Medieval,” a track with some similar themes, but a rather different composition.
Music: “Almost Medieval”
While “Circus of Death” is slow and dirgelike, “Almost Medieval” showcases the more aggressive side of *Reproduction.* It opens the album with a starkly simplistic tick-tocking beat, reminiscent of an unaccompanied metronome, before bursting into its punk-like sonic assault--a musical representation of how seemingly predictable and deterministic machines can also create something outrageous and unexpected. The lyrics of this track seem pointed towards the past, with the narrator exclaiming that they “feel so old,” and as if they’ve died many times before. Juxtaposed against the thoroughly modern setting of an airport with tarmacs and jet engines, it might be taken as an expression of the horror a person from the past might feel if they were shown the world of the future, created by capitalism and high technology. While it isn’t very accurate, we have a tendency to think of the “Medieval” world as a barbaric, unclean, and uncivilized era, full of witch hunts, chastity belts, and the deliberate erasure of “ancient wisdom.” “Almost Medieval” turns that idea on its head, suggesting that perhaps our world is the one that’s truly barbaric. The image of its narrator, “falling through a rotting ladder,” can be taken as a rejection of the notion of a “ladder” of progress. Similar themes of open-ended symbolism, and the sorrow of modernity, can be found on “Empire State Human.”
Music: “Empire State Human”
Like “Almost Medieval,” “Empire State Human” is lively and faster-paced, with driving percussion. With its straightforward rhymes and repetitive structure, it readily encourages the listener to sing along, almost as if joining in some sort of ritual chant. It’s an idea that Marsh and Ware would return to in their Heaven 17 days, with tracks like “We Don’t Need This Fascist Groove Thang.” “Empire State Human” was the album’s only single, and thanks to this exposure, and its (relative) palatability compared to the rest of their catalogue, it remains one of the best known tracks from the early Human League. “Empire State Human” makes its concept pretty clear, with less ambiguous lyrics and an easy to follow mix that brings Oakey’s voice to the fore: the narrator wishes to become a building, and a mighty skyscraper no less, which might rival the achievements of the Pyramids of the ancient Egyptians. While it is clear that that’s what the song’s about, what we do with this once again high-concept subject matter is up to us. I like to think that this is some kind of perverse commentary on the unnatural and alienating experience of urban living, which may come with the feeling that the concrete and rebar structures that surround us are more significant to our lives than the people who may live or work in them. City life is addressed more directly by the track “Blind Youth.”
Music: “Blind Youth”
“Blind Youth” is probably the most “grounded” track on the album, in terms of its theme, making pointed remarks about “dehumanization” and “high-rise living.” It’s tempting to think of it as a sort of parallel to “Empire State Human,” with a broadly similar musical backdrop, and a more literal expression of the theme hinted at more obliquely by “Empire State Human.” With its focus on the experiences of the titular “youth,” “Blind Youth” can also be contrasted with “Almost Medieval,” whose narrator keens about feeling old. Where “Almost Medieval” deals with the disgust an older person feels at the decrepit state of the human race, “Blind Youth” shows the demented, unthinking joy of the youth, who have grown up in an industrialized and urbanized world, and don’t know different--or better.
While there have been many classic underground albums whose covers aimed to shock and displease polite society, the cover of Reproduction is one of the few that I feel would still be seen as offensive, over 40 years later. It was allegedly the product of a miscommunication between the group and the illustrator commissioned to create it; the band requested a scene in which people are dancing above a ward of babies in glass-topped incubators, and the striking angle, which seems to show people crushing infants underfoot, is an unintentional aspect of the design. Unintentional or not, this crudely violent aspect dominates the final composition, and lends it vileness and immediacy. Like the lyrics of many of the songs, the combination of the cover and title can be interpreted a number of ways. Perhaps it’s a glib commentary on human reproduction as fun and games: we partake in the “dance” of courtship and sexuality, and babies drop beneath our feet. Or perhaps it suggests a contrast between life’s enjoyments, like dancing, and its stressors, like the responsibilities of parenthood. It’s hard not to see so many crying, seemingly distressed infants without becoming upset oneself, and I think the deep instinctual revulsion that this piece inspires is part of why it’s remained so resonant in its subversiveness.
As I mentioned in my introduction, the Human League have gone down in history chiefly for the music they made later, which has largely buried this early period as part of their legacy--at least in the public eye and outside of the dedicated diggings of motivated enthusiasts. If you’re a fan of what you’ve heard from this album, you’ll probably enjoy their 1980 follow-up Travelogue, as well as their EP, Holiday ‘80. Given the emphasis on long-form albums among music aficionados, EPs and their exclusive tracks are quite frequently missed, but Holiday ‘80 is a gem from this short-lived line-up, featuring the fragile “Marianne” as well as a cover of the stadium favourite “Rock ‘N’ Roll,” made famous by Gary Glitter. Thumbing its nose at everything the culture of “rock and roll” stands for, and transposing this hymn to its greatness into an abrasive and sterile lunar landscape of synths, this is one of my favourite covers of all time, and seems to prefigure how a very different Human League would later become the archnemesis of all that rock fans held holy. It was also one of very few tracks to be performed on Top of the Pops, and subsequently see not a rise, but a drop in the singles charts!
Music: “Rock ‘N’ Roll”
My favourite track on Reproduction is one that appears on its second side, unlike the other tracks I’ve talked about so far: “Austerity / Girl One.” Side Two of Reproduction is mainly focused on longer and more narrative-driven tracks, and this is no exception. Like the opener of the second side, “Austerity / Girl One” is a medley, albeit one of two pieces that are original compositions and not covers, as medleys usually are. This track’s story is both timeless and modern, a bit like a contemporary King Lear: the “Austerity” half deals with an aging father, incapable of understanding his children, dying alone and ignored, while the “Girl One” half puts us in the mindset of his daughter, a New Woman whose life is hectic, but also bleak. It’s a story that many of us will relate to, about people who try their best with what they’ve got, but still feel as though they’ve failed in life. Its simple, but effective musical backdrop of wan synth pulses allows the narrative, and Oakey’s evocative portrayal of it, to take center stage. That’s everything for today, thanks for listening.

@noblelightfighter asked: "How did you come up with the town scenarios? Like Wild trying to bargain and Sky being one of the links who was eager to try bomb-chu bowling?"
I’m really glad you asked this! I love talking about my thought process and inspirations when it comes to my writing, especially with Oops! All Links. There are a lot of sequences in the Selggog arc, so I may as well go through them chapter by chapter. More below the cut!
I'll start off by saying that around the time I wrote “Musings and Memories,” I read James Baldwin's short story “Sonny’s Blue’s.” Baldwin does a really good job keeping dialogue-heavy scenes interesting by describing the characters' poses and mundane actions. I thought, "damn, I want to do that too." So if you noticed another layer of detail in my writing at that point, that was why.
Chapter 15: Inn or Out... Maybe Just Inn.
Hyrule is by far the hardest Link to write for. He has hardly any source material, so all I really have to go off of is Jojo’s comic and other fan content. That's why I accidentally ignored him for the first 14 chapters. So I decided to give him much more of a spotlight in this arc, and one of the few concrete things that we know about him is that he has had to deal with vendors with wildly different prices. I figure, yeah, he probably got good at haggling.
I put Sky, Wild, and Hyrule together because they all have different experiences with vendors in their own games. I decided that I could add Baldwin-esque detail by describing the minutia of them undressing and eating supper. Damn, did I consult the original LU character concepts a ton for this segment. I also used this scene to add my headcanon/self-projection of Sky being vegetarian.
The Links also went through what could be a traumatic experience in the burning town. I had already written some fallout of Time using Darmani's Mask, where the others are mad at him, Wild flips shit, and Time describes how painful it is to use the masks. But Time only wore the mask to save Hyrule. Wouldn't Hyrule feel guilty about that? And who better to soothe that guilt than Wild, who must have felt incredible survivor guilt after the Calamity?
Chapter 16: Panacea
Scene 1: I wasn't sure why I made Twilight wake in a cold sweat, but it could be because of recalling his past experience in "Stars and Stories." Aside from giving Twi and Wars some 1-on-1 dialogue, this scene lets Twi have some pleasant memories of home after the awful ones in "Fire." It also shows his soft side when he lets Time oversleep.
Scene 2: This is mostly just setup for the rest of the arc, but eating breakfast and getting dressed is another Baldwin opportunity. The group also gets some downtime to decompress and act off of each other.
The title and Hyrule's line "And enjoying breakfast together in a warm and cozy inn is probably the panacea for that poison” is a reference to the Flobots song "Panacea for the Poison."
Chapters 17 & 18: To Sell a Butterfly (Necklace); A Sailor and a Ranch Hand Walk into a Store.
Bro, I love writing Twi and Wind together. All the Links consider each other sort of brothers, Twi acts like a big brother to his friends in Ordon, and Wind is the youngest Link. Perfect. These chapters let their relationship shine and give Wind a chance to use his own experience with treasure tellers for what I think were great character moments. Madame Viliafore wasn't really inspired by anything, she just kinda came into existence.
Twilight's line “Uh, I’m pretty sure most shops won’t buy off strangers. They’re trying to sell their junk, not buy yours. Think how fast they’d go bankrupt.” is a reference to the Snowdin shopkeeper in Undertale.
This is probably pretty obvious but the titles are references to To Kill a Mockingbird and that one joke (you know the one).
Chapter 19: Swords, Shields, Arrows
Wild is a knight and knows exactly what he is doing when it comes to weapons. The pose he ends his sword test with is a reference to the BotW Memory "Shelter from the Storm." He tries to haggle with the shop owner precisely because he just saw Hyrule do it, and they talked about it the previous night. He fails miserably because he has absolutely no idea how to do it. I also give Four and Wild some character interaction that stresses how much Wild's past messed with his head.
There's no particular reason the shopkeeper said they were scaring his customers when there weren't any customers in the shop, I just thought it would be funny.
Chapter 20: Mind the Tea
Hyrule got some comfort from Wild and Sky, but I felt he really needed to hear it from Time. Besides wrapping up all the plot threads from the previous chapters, I got to sprinkle in a bit more Time angst and humorously conclude the wallet side plot. I just thought it would be funny to make the events of two whole chapters entirely unnecessary.
This chapter and the opening to the next are inspired by the time I went to a British tearoom in New York City called Tea and Sympathy. It's a bit pricy but if you're ever in New York, you should check it out.
Rolling with the British theme, the title is a reference to the warning all over the London Underground saying "Mind the Gap."
Chapter 21: Me and the Boys
The Links needed some fun after everything, so I figured, what minigame from one of the Zelda games could all of them enjoy? Time said it himself, they all like explosions. Sky is the most enthusiastic to play (besides Wind) because he's generally one of the more positive Links, and one of his own minigames was that circus-themed diving game. I figured that this would remind him of that.
The girl at the counter is indeed the younger sister of the Bombchu girl in Ocarina of Time. The "heroic sideburns" line is a reference to Tri Force Heroes, which otherwise doesn't really come up in LU.
In my opinion, this is my funniest chapter by far. I really laid into the comedy here, because I knew that after this chapter, I was going into an arc centered around intense combat. I absolutely love Twilight's increasing concern over the Cucco, and Sky's line about animal welfare laws is a reference to the "Wait. That's illegal" meme from Red vs Blue.
My favorite jokes I've ever written are in this chapter:
“Games?” Hyrule replied. “You mean like chess?” Wind gaped at his friend in disbelief. “No, games are fun.”
And this entire bit here
The girl giggled from behind the counter. Legend shot daggers at her. She sobered up. Warriors snatched up a bombchu in one hand and patted Legend on the shoulder with the other. “Please, I’ll show you how it’s done,” he said with a wink to the shopkeeper. Warriors’ bombchu was as good as dead on arrival; it was blocked by the very first barrier. His shoulders slumped. “I don’t remember him asking for the quickest way to lose,” Wild teased. “Shut it, you don’t remember a lot of things,” Warriors shot back. “I—… okay, that’s fair.”
To finish up, I'll explain where this town's came from. Back in middle school, I ran a Minecraft server for my friends and me. We built a town and my friend decided to name it Selggog. Where did he get the name? We had just watched the "Lab Safety Song" in our science class, and it mentioned safety goggles. He wrote down "goggles" backward and, what do you know, he got "Selggog."

CHAPTER 2
Indiana Jones Crossover/Bodyguard AU Veracruz x reader
A/N: It’s here. Okay. Warnings. Mentions of many creepy crawlies: spiders, scorpions, and snakes. Some canon violence, nothing graphic. Veracruz makes an appearance at the end and is his snarky self. Umm. No sexy times, not yet.
Ezekiel: i imagined John Boyega and Reina i thought of my bestie whom i love dearly.

The next day, they woke up before dawn, packing up the jeep before making their way out of the city and into the rainforest. They spent several hours driving, driving well through the night. They stopped only a few times in nearby villages.
They got to a point where the path was too narrow for the jeep to travel. So, they grabbed some of their gear, and began to walk slowly up the trail. They walked for about an hour before coming to a stop to make camp for the rest of the night.
They had a small fire going and were simply using sleeping bags; no tents since they were only going to be there for a few hours. Vixen didn’t bother with unraveling her bag, not wanting to deal with it in the morning, opting to instead use it as a pillow.
As they all rested, sitting down and eating energy bars, drinking water, they made light conversation. She was casually leaning on one hand as she sat, quietly nibbling on her food.
Reina, a beautiful half Puerto Rican woman, stared at her worriedly.
“Hey..uh.. Vix… not to…alarm you or anything… but uhh…. There’s a large spider on your hand,” She slowly informed staring at her hand in horror.
Vixen slowly looked down and lifted her hand up to examine the spider on her hand.
“He’s fine. Just trying to get warm. It can be really cool at night in these regions, so all he wants is warmth,” She lightly stated as she moved her hand back down and let him crawl off and sit near the fire.
“Alright. Get some rest everyone. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow,” Professor Jones ordered as he settled against his pack, tilting his hat over his eyes.
The others got settled in their sleeping bags and Vixen rested against her rolled up bag. Minutes later she could hear multiple snores and light breathing come from everyone else. She stared up at the sky, through the canopy, at the stars.
‘Don’t get to see much of the stars up in Chicago, never seen so many.’ She quietly thought. ‘Wonder if Veracruz likes stargazing? Hm. Doubtful. He’d probably think that to be ‘too girly.’’
Her eyes slowly drifted closed as she her thoughts began to spiral about her handsome one-night stand.
They slept undisturbed until cracks of dawn began to weave through the winding tree limbs around them. As Vixen woke up… she noticed an odd feeling on the side of her face.
“Professor Jones? A little… assistance please?” She croaked out slowly.
“Don’t move. He’s not venomous, but if he bites it won’t be pleasant,” Prof Jones cautioned as he used his rolled-up whip to move the giant spider off her face.
The spider lazily walked off and disappeared into the brush once he was away from her. She then felt the professor move his whip to brush along her back, to knock off his friends.
When she was finally cleared to get up, she brushed herself off and shuddered lightly as she wiped her face.
“Reina. Ezekiel. Time to get up, and start our trek,” Prof Jones called out waking the other two up.
As the 2 of them got up, Vixen stretched and gathered her things. She looked over at Ezekiel who was about to put on his shoes.
“Wait!” She called out, rushing over to him.
She grabbed the shoe out of his hand, and slowly turned it upside, punching the bottom of his sole a few times. After a moment, a large scorpion popped out.
“If you take anything off, be sure to check it before you put it back on. Anything and everything will crawl into it to make a home in it,” She warned as she handed him his shoe again.
“How the hell do you know that?” He asked staring at his shoe in disgust.
“Had 4 of Professor Jones classes and was his TA for a year. Trust me. You’ll pick up on a lot. So, when he talks, listen. You’ll learn so much. It might seem absolutely useless, but it can be lifesaving,” She said with a laugh as she shoveled some dirt to put out the fire that was still simmering from last night.
A few minutes past and everyone was ready to go. They began to follow Prof Jones up a winding path, through deep vegetation. Every so often he would leave a marker to note their path.
About an hour had passed and they came up to a large stone structure. It was shaped to be a doorway, but the door itself was blocked off.
“This is the structure that was seen from a plane?” Reina asked tilting her head looking at it.
“Indeed. From the looks of it, if this was indeed a temple at one point, the forest has slowly consumed it. Shrouding it in its own mystery. It’s possible that a great portion of it buried underground. We will see once we start exploring,” Prof Jones explained walking closer up to the structure.
“So, if we can’t go through it, maybe we should go above it? Reina, ya wanna go with me?” Vixen asked as she moved forward.
She dropped her pack, and grabbed her flashlight, and a handful of other supplies, stuffing them into the pockets of her pants. She stood just below the edge of the structure and took a deep breath.
She then jumped up, to grab ahold of the edge, and pulled herself up slowly. She got up there after a moment of struggle, before turning around to hold her hand down for Reina to take.
Reina after dropping her pack and grabbing similar items, looked around quickly and held up a finger, a silent ‘wait a minute.’ She walked over to the side and grabbed two long, study limbs and handed them to her one by one, before reaching up to join her.
Vixen set the limbs aside and pulled Reina up gently. Once the both of them were up they grabbed a limb and used them to gently tap for any weak spots as they walked along the top. They walked about 20feet before they reached a large gap.
Vixen looked down, moving to squat, squinting trying to see in the dark.
“There’s… something moving down there,” She quietly noted.
“Got a flare on you?” Reina asked as she squatted down with her.
Vixen nodded and reached into one of her pockets, and lit it, before tossing it down. The flare illuminated the room below and showed off the 100s of snakes that were chilling around what appeared to be an altar.
“Go ask Ezekiel if he still has that bottle of vodka on him,” Vixen requested with a grimace.
Reina made her way back to the guys, following her same footsteps back, before rejoining her a minute later.
“Alright oh brilliant one, what we about to do here?” Reina teased as she handed over the bottle.
Vixen laughed, “Not really brilliant… just uhh. A little crazy.”
She opened the bottle up and poured the bottle out both onto the center of the altar, and accidently onto some of the snakes surrounding it.
“Got any matches, hot stuff?” Vixen teased back.
Reina playfully glared at her and pulled out her book of matches from her breast pocket on her shirt. Vixen took the book and grabbed one match, quickly lighting it before dropping it down onto the altar. The vodka lit, and a path of flames formed from underneath the altar down a hallway. Several snakes were burned, but the fire scared the rest of them way, clearing the path.
“Ouch. Harsh,” Reina said with a wince.
“I feel… slightly bad about that, but it was the only way to safely clear them,” Vixen admitted with a frown.
They decided to then drop down from there, grabbing their flashlights as they began to follow the path that was illuminated by the flames.
Reina was examining the walls as they walked, “There’s art drawn on here. Do you think it’s Aztec or Incan?”
“Hard to tell to be honest. If there was writing maybe, but these walls have seen a lot of moisture, so much of the art is worn down,” Vixen replied staring at them as well.
They continued walking in silence for a time, walking down this one hallway.
“Is it me… or does it feel like we are going down at an angle?” Vixen eventually questioned, glancing down at her feet.
Reina nodded in response, “Think we should wait for the guys?”
“Nah. They are probably behind us anyway. Or about to catch up. Prof J doesn’t like snakes so hopefully none of them came back,” Vixen noted with a sigh.
“Doesn’t like snakes?” Reina asked stopping mid-step.
“Phobia. Something about being on a circus train and falling into the car that stored the snakes, when he was a teenager. Hasn’t liked them since,” Vixen answered with a small laugh.
Reina shuddered in response, and said, “I don’t blame him.”
They continued walking, quietly talking about old classes and such, when the pathway opened up. They were suddenly looking at a long winding rope bridge, and darkness all around them. They glanced up and could see an opening, but all that could be seen were trees.
“We are in a ravine. Fun. Great. Not terrifying at all,” Vixen quietly muttered looking around.
“I don’t like this. I think we should wait for the guys now,” Reina requested backing up slightly.
Vixen nodded in response, agreeing with her. It didn’t take long for Prof Jones and Ezekiel to catch up to them.
“Ladies. Have fun?” Ezekiel teased as he joined them.
Professor Jones stepped forward and scrutinized the bridge before them.
“We are going to take this one at time. Once we have a proper base setup, we will make improvements to this bridge, but until then, I don’t want any of you trekking across this alone, got it?” He ordered looking at each one of us.
The three of them nodded in response and watched with trepidation as he began walking across the bridge. There were several moments where they gasped as a board fell out from under his foot. After what felt like a lifetime, when in reality it was like 10 minutes, he made it to the other side.
“Alright! One at a time guys!” He called over to us, his voice echoing slightly.
Ezekiel goes next, muttering to himself ‘this is some dumb white people shit.’
Reina stared at the bridge worriedly and said, “I… I don’t know if I can handle going alone.”
She was wincing at every creak and groan of the bridge as Ezekiel walked.
“Listen… I’ll be right behind you. Those guys are twice our weight and made it over, we can do it too. Just move slowly, and don’t focus on anything but your feet,” Vixen tried to reassure as Ezekiel made it over.
Reina nodded her head, and slowly began to step forward. She had made it about halfway when her foot suddenly fell through a board. She screamed at the sudden drop and was clutching onto the bridge tightly, not moving.
The bridge shook some, and once it had slowed down, Vixen slowly made her way over to her.
“Don’t move Reina. I’m coming. I got you,” Vixen called out as she got closer.
Once she got up to her, she quietly stated, “Reina. I’m right here okay? I’m going to pull your foot out and then we are going to get up okay?”
Reina, after a moment, nodded. Vixen gently reached for Reina’s leg, and once she got a firm grip, slowly lifted it back up. Reina helped as much as she could, trying to move her leg and foot out of the way. Once her foot was free, they took a deep breath.
Vixen slowly stood up, and helped Reina get up, without shaking the bridge too much. Reina winced in pain, as she tried standing on her foot.
“We’ll check it out once we are over this, okay? C’mon. Lean against me and we will get out of here,” She said, wrapping one of Reina’s arms around her shoulder.
The walk was now a hobble and it took a while for them to get across the bridge but once they were, Ezekiel immediately took over for Vixen, and helped her take a seat on the ground.
Ezekiel then began to apply first aid treatment to her foot.
“You two good to stay here for a moment? There should be another path out of here. We are going to go on up ahead and see if we can find it. If you feel strong enough, catch up. If not, stay here and rest. We will be back before you know it,” Prof Jones informed them, concern lacing his features.
Vixen stared at Reina with concern before slowly following Prof Jones down the path before them.
“Not the best start to an adventure,” Prof Jones muttered.
“Could’ve been worse though?” Vixen offered with a shrug.
He gave a small chuckle as they continued on. They soon came into a large atrium and could see many paths leading from the center. They looked at each and sighed, before going to each tunnel to try and figure out where it led.
The first two were dead ends, and they marked an X in the dirt, to notate it. The third path led to a stairway that went further down. They decided that that was a path they would explore more at a later time. The last path was a long hallway that led to set of stairs that went up, but there was no door.
As they further examined it, they noticed that a section of the ceiling was made of wood. The both of them then, using whatever means necessary, began to shove at the wood. The wood wobbled several times, and it creaked and squeaked. They could hear roots snapping and dirt shifting. As the wood began to give way and opened, they could see cracks of sunlight breaking through as they were covered in dirt.
It took several more minutes, but soon they had pushed open the newly found double doors and were now staring at large statues hidden by the rainforest. They dusted themselves off as they move forward.
“This doesn’t look Incan to me professor,” Vixen stated as she moved a little closer examining the statues.
“It’s not. It’s Muisca. They were the most prominent of ancient civilizations here in Colombia. Incans did have an influence in this area, but it was not until about 13th century or so,” Prof Jones explained looking at the statues with reverence.
“Muisca? El Dorado?” She asked making the first connection that she remembered from class.
“Yes. The very same. Don’t get too excited though. I doubt we’ve stumbled upon on El Dorado. This is more likely either a center of worship, or it could be a small part of a much larger city,” He replied with a chuckle, shaking his head.
Vixen nodded in understanding and then looked around for a moment.
“How far do you think we are from where we started?” She asked looking in the direction that they came out from.
“Probably a good mile. The ravine we wound up in could be much larger than it appeared. So, we are going to have find out just how far off the path we’ve gotten. But first, let’s go get Ezekiel and Reina,” Professor Jones answered looking back down the stairs.
“No need. We are here,” Ezekiel’s voice called out as he and Reina came into the light.
Reina walked with a slight limp and had a hand on Ezekiel’s shoulder for support as they walked up the stairs.
The two of them looked at Reina with concern and were about to ask her how she was doing but she spoke before they could.
“Just an annoying scratch, no sprain yet. Vix, thanks for coming after me,” Reina explained before expressing gratitude to Vixen.
Vixen smiled at her brightly, relieved.
They took a moment to rest and relax before they made an hour-long trek back to where they began. The ravine was in fact much larger than it appeared, and they had to find a safer route around it. By the time they had reached the beginning, it was midday and painfully warm.
They began to clear as much as they could in the surrounding clearing, to safely put-up tents. Once their camp had been made, they made a game plan on what they needed to do first starting tomorrow. As they spoke, they were unaware of the eyes that watched them from afar. The guys made a plan to get the last of the gear from the jeep before the light left them.
As they left, Reina and Vixen began to setup a canopy, for them to have as a station for their gear and maps. They also got a campfire pit setup but did not light it. They eventually had settled down, sitting around the unlit campfire, telling each other more stories
Halfway through one story, Vixen heard a twig snap, and felt strange. She looked around, suspicious.
Reina stopped speaking as she noticed her behavior and slowly realized why Vixen was acting strange. The rainforest was eerily quiet.
Vixen got up and walked over to one of the bags and pulled out a machete, motioning for Reina to get behind her. They started walking back toward the structure looking everywhere. They heard a shout, followed by rapid gunfire. They dropped down as bullets rained over them.
It went on for several minutes before it stopped, and more shouting was heard. They couldn’t make out what was said, but soon enough they heard more yelling, this time from more familiar voices.
“Reina! Vixen!” Came Prof Jones and Ezekiel’s voices.
They could hear movement, sounds of several people rushing away, as the two of them came back to the base.
The two of them were shaking hard as they slowly lifted their heads up as the coast cleared. The guys checked them over as they came up to them. Reina was fine, Vixen had been grazed by a bullet on her arm. The wound was quickly cleaned and stitched afterwards.
As Ezekiel took care of her arm, Prof Jones made some phone calls.
“So, you glad you got that first aid and CPR training Zeke?” She lightly joked as she tried to calm down.
Ezekiel laughed and shook his head, “Glad I haven’t had to use it on myself. But so far, these are not terrible injuries. Let’s hope this is the worst it gets.”
She nodded in agreement as Professor Jones walked up to them, “Alright. By tomorrow morning, we will have a local unit come in and offer additional protection. You sure the both of you are okay?”
Vixen nodded and Reina, after a moment quietly said, “Yeah.”
“Alright. Let’s uhh. Eat and rest up,” He said with a tired sigh, before walking over to the designated food bag. They ate mostly in silence, and then made their way to their tents.
As night fell, Vixen felt a bit on edge, and was having a hard time relaxing long enough to fall asleep. She had almost given up when she heard Reina softly call her name. Vixen told her to come in, and as she did, she noticed Reina had her pillow and a blanket.
“Can’t sleep either,” Reina softly said. “Safety in numbers.”
Vixen nodded, feeling a wave of relief as Reina settled in next to her. As they both laid down, Vixen took a shaky breath in and tried to slow the racing of her heart. Reina, slowly reached over, and took Vixen’s hand into hers. She gave it a small squeeze, trying to give some comfort. Vixen after a moment squeezed hers back, and that’s how they eventually fell asleep.
The next morning, they woke up to the sound of Ezekiel tripping over a pan as he tried to make breakfast. They both snorted and giggled quietly, trying not to laugh too hard. Reina soon got up and made her way back over to her tent, so the both of them could get dressed and ready for the day.
Vixen ate a little bit, before going about her assigned task for the day. Ezekiel and Reina were going to go find a watering source nearby, and Prof Jones was going to wait for military unit and lead them up to us via walkie talkies. Vixen was going to go through and light up what she could in the tunnels, leading up to the bridge. Afterward, they were going to see if there were other openings to the main center, besides the bridge.
As she began to set up lights and make torches, she quietly examined the art on the walls. She could not make much out of them, but it appeared to show some form of worship, particularly to the sun, or a sun god.
It hadn’t taken her too long to get the hallway lit, so she quietly took photos of everything she saw.
As she did that, she heard Professor Jones call out to her, asking her to come out.
She made her way back over to the camp where several men with guns, in military uniform had appeared.
She could see the professor speaking to one of the men, and as she made her way over to them, she felt her brain short-circuit. It was Veracruz.
“Ah. This is one of my students, Y/N, but most call her Vixen. Vixen this is Comandante Veracruz,” Prof Jones introduced.
She blinked rapidly as she heard his title and name that confirmed she was not hallucinating. She slowly reached her hand out to shake.
“Pleasure to meet you, Comandante,” She greeted, surprised her voice didn’t crack.
“Pleasure is all mine, Vixen,” He replied with a smirk, his eyes roving over her up and down.
She noticed his gaze stop at the bandage on her arm and took note that it darkened, something akin to fury.
“Is this why we were called up here?” He asked motioning to her arm.
“Yes. Several men took position about 20ft back, and fired upon her and Reina,” Prof Jones explained quickly. “It was sheer luck that this was the only injury sustained.”
“Not necessarily. If they didn’t make themselves known, they clearly wanted to scare you off. If they wanted them dead, they would be. It is quite possible that they may come back,” Veracruz warned as he waved to his men. “I’m going to get them in their positions, I also don’t want any of you going off without an escort. I want either me or one of my men with you at all times.”
As he said that, Ezekiel and Reina had returned, and had been successful in their trip to find water. They noted where it was on the map, before Prof Jones caught them up on what was going on. Vixen tried to focus on the conversation at hand but found her gaze drifting over to Veracruz as he ordered his men.
Seeing him in his position of power was a major turn on and she was not okay. Her mind kept drifting back to their one-night stand.
Veracruz eventually joined them with three other men. Prof Jones quickly introduced him to Ezekiel and Reina.
“I am Comandante Veracruz, this is Horacio, Rene, and Tadeo. The four of us will be guarding each of you. Horacio, you will be with the professor, Rene with Ezekiel. Tadeo with Reina. Which.. leaves me with you, Vixen,” He assigned turning to each person as he said their name.
When he turned to look at her, his eyes almost dared her to protest. She didn’t. She just nodded her head, even though internally she was screaming.
“I ask that the four of you wait here, while we get ourselves setup, and do a quick perimeter check,” He said in a tone that didn’t leave room for arguing.
By the time his men were done with that, it was late in the day, and any plans to find another safer entrance to the other side of the underground temple, was halted. The three of them were mildly annoyed by it.
“We are not exploring the rainforest in the dark, most animals go hunting at this time. It’s safer to just stay nearby,” Prof Jones explained since we were all annoyed.
Vixen did a small eyeroll, before getting up and grabbing her camera. “I’m going to finish my photos, then.”
As she made her way back inside, she briefly heard Veracruz swear in Spanish before running to catch up to her.
“And just where do you think you are going?” He asked, moving to stand in front of her.
“Inside. I have work to do. I’m not letting a… babysitter get in the way of it,” She stated with narrowed eyes.
“Babysitter?” He repeated annoyance lacing his features as she moved past him.
As she made her way inside, he followed after her. She took a few more photos, and as she stopped to look at them, she failed to notice that he had crept up beside her. He took the camera out of her hand suddenly and set it on the ground away from them.
As she moved to protest and tried to reach for it, he pinned her against the wall. Her hands were trapped between their bodies as he pressed himself firmly against her.
“Babysitter? Really?” He mocked slightly, his hand reaching up to brush her hair out of her face. “I am here as a favor, princess. I could very easily, leave you to the wolves. Do not mock my authority.”
She shuddered slightly as his tone got darker. She muttered, “I’m sorry. Can I have my camera back please?”
“Hmmm. I don’t know… I quite like the position we are in. Maybe I should see just how quiet you can be?” He whispered into her ear as one of his hands ran up her side.
She shivered at the thought and stared up at him. She bit her lip at the thought. He even leaned in close, acting like he was going to kiss her.
“Then again that wouldn’t be very professional of me,” He teased as he pulled away, picking her camera back up. “Finish your photos, Princess.”
She blinked at the sudden loss, and stared at him, her jaw dropped. She closed it after a moment, took a deep breath to calm her racing thoughts. She took her camera away from him, and finished up her photos, now painfully aware of him and his presence.
She was slightly embarrassed that she would’ve willingly let him do whatever he wanted to her a moment ago. She didn’t care that his men and her team were only 20ft away from their location.
Once she was done, they started to move back to the base. He made subtle touches to her as they did. His hand would brush against hers, or he would needlessly help her step over fallen trees and limbs, pulling her close to him.
She had one thought as she rejoined the group, ‘This is going to be a long project.’

And again here are more theories and opinions about the magnus archives from my brother
The corruption is one of the "four horsemen"
War and conquest are the military ghosts, and the desolation
Famine and pestilence is the buggy bois
Death is the end, duh
The corruption is colonisation basically
Elias is against having a cat, because they are too powerful, he was very serious about this
Centipedes have a masochistic foot fetish, millipedes have a normal one, don't ask
The woman in Dead Woman Walking is just a Zombie
Is the Woman a victim of the Book of Death from MAG 70
Georgie is a ghosty hunty person
Georgie and Melanie don't seem to be afraid of anything
The Italian mountain troops would have known they were being fucked with
More undead
Reminded him sort of the Meat Men
Also reminded him of the buried on the London underground
The mysterious firing squad intrigued him, did all the men that went up the mountain come back to kill him?
Basira is Drax from gotg
She'll randomly appear and no one will know she's there until she speaks
The chuckle brothers origin story, he means Breekon and Hope
Didn't think the circus had anything to do with the stranger
Breekon and Hope are taxidermy
So they're with the stranger
The Stranger is just everything that doesn't fall under something else
The circus was it's own thing
The cult of the lightless flame is it's own thing
The people's Church of the devine host is it's own thing
The circus is just full of people who you don't know, if you do know them that's sad... He was kinda rambling at this point
Is Sarah Baldwin capable of being bored
Why was she working with Melanie?
Do you just take a liking to ghost people
Did you take them over before of after they were eaten.
The Buried is called The London underground
Is it the Fairchild's? Thinks they're about isolation
Thinks it might be a book
The pit could be an Antlion
Thought that the young woman who was eaten by the pit turned into Gertrude
The young man could be, Gerry, Martin, Salesa, young Jon, Elias.
Thinks The stranger is vanilla in terms of gods and monsters.
The stranger is the least interesting.
Thinks all the Stranger wants to do is just summon a god
For some reason he thinks the Dark should be doing more to stop them, because Rayner wouldn't want that to happen
Martin will rap battle the archive to victory, via poetry from Leitners books
The stranger could just be Lego
He's horny for Rayner, his words not mine
Mr. Sandman brought him a dream
Thinks that the Dark at least can get to their gods dimension but choose not to.
If you make everywhere dark does their god appear?
He asked what would happen if two factions tried to summon their god at the same time what would happen
Thinks that all the Avatars /Entities do the same thing.
Breekon and hope have never killed anyone
Maxwell Rayner is a time travelling shadow demon
Mr sandman is like an angry sandy from Rotg
He made this episode unnecessarily kinky
They're just summoning gods
The stranger is remarkably being left alone
Thinks there is no fighting between factions
If anything they're aided
Is the Fairchild's entity already here
Are they working with the other factions
Says he knows whats going to happen because he "knows how these things go"
The Beholding is already on this side and if another God is summoned then it will be booted
Elias killed Gertrude because she was trying to defeat the Beholding and if it was defeated he would turn into the same thing as below the Library in Alexandria
There were three versions of the unknowing that he thought of
Destroying the concept of identity, the unknowing destroys the concept of personality, individuality, and identity. Turning them into Stranger worshipping entities
The angler fish was the thing in the basement at the Taxidermy shop
Stranger just means it couldn't get any stranger
Or it's deliberate parodies of humans
Breekon and Hope were normal people
Salesa, the chuckle brothers, the meat man, the skin walkers, the taxidermist, the manquien, Not-Sasha, the architects, the circus and to some extent the witches are part of the stranger
Magnus is a stranger that took over Elias
He also thinks Elias is just Magnus who found out how to stick around for a while
But Elias isn't the archive god like he first thought
The twisted detergent is Michael's new entity
Michael is like Loki if he didn't have a brother
The stranger is the big bad
Jon is an idiot, he's a bit slow
His second theory for the unknowing is that It's just going to destroy all knowledge revolving the Elder gods, hence the unknowing, the one he thought the least likely
And third, It somehow increases their powers so that the few people that would recognise them, no longer do. Levelling up in short. Thinks it would work for every entity
Doesn't think The Unknowing would be that big of a shift
The circus and the stranger were different because the Circus dealt with the "Freak show"
Thinks Rayner isn't dead
Dust devils
Dirt zombies
Has only made the connection between the Underground, the pit and the dust storm
Was the kid in the car Michael
Was Michael always the Spiral but just really liked working with Gertrude
Michael is the Spiral, he doesn't worship anything
Elias took Gertrude from him, now he's after revenge
Jon should go chill with everyone at the Archive
Jon should have a sword
While you were busy not having a paranoid breakdown I studied the blade
Michael has a crush on Gertrude
He has a granny kink, he is obsessed with making it all kink related
Michael originally gave his powers away to be with Gertrude
Michael took on this form because he could blend in or brag
He's a monster with a thing for Gertrude
Michael wasn't the same Michael as in the tape
Just trying to trick everyone
Lynne Hammond was lying, goes in line with the church of the lightless flame but it didn't happen
Maybe she heard something similar but it didn't actually happen to her, she was just trying to get some money
He actually feels bad for Tim
Tim should run
John Smith was half telling the truth.
People are in the tunnel's but it's not a government conspiracy
Tim doesn't deserve this
You can tell Basira is used to dealing with idiots
Liked that it cut out when Robin Lennox said let me start again, it's like the archive was trying to make it stop
Thinks the archive doesn't care what is being read to it, someone should read it the Lord of the Ringd
The archive is recording the tape recorders not Elias
Get the dog out
Michael was the crying man, he wanted the dog out
He doesn't want to hurt the dog
"Gertrude why did you leave me? I'll get you one day Elias" based on his Michael granny kink theory
Brian Finlinson was the most coherent in terms of links
Thinks that the spiders were actually there, hiding whenever anyone came around
Lynne is lying, John Smith is half telling the truth, Robin Lennox saw Michael having a breakdown, Brian Finlinson was telling the truth
He didn't remember Peter Lukas ever being mentioned before
Already shipping Peter and Elias
Michael is very sensitive
The Fairchild's and the Lukas' are working together
They don't seem to have an interest in the conflict going on between everyone else
The Fairchild's were in aerospace and Lukas was the ships
Still cthulhu
Even space had a cthulhu vibe
The depth of the ocean or the isolation of space
The Lukas and the archive are working together
There are some of these guys that don't want the entities on this side
Likes the power, doesn't want the full on entities here
The Lukas and the Fairchild's are the cthulhus
They're somewhat working with the archive/the beholding
Is Elias actually a Lukas? Decided yes because he and Peter are married
How much do the Lukas have to do with the Beholding
What sort of arrangement do they have?
Nikola was supposed to be part of the circus but there is a difference between the facimalies and the circus
Thinks that the archive burning down would have no downsides for the Beholding.
They'll summon a god and gazing upon it will kill everyone, everyone dies.
As he was now halfway through the series he explained who he thought was in each of these factions
The beholding, Elias, Martin, Tim, basira, daisy, sims, melanie, sasha, Rosie, Gertrude, leitner. Sasha is caught in a time loop...
The stranger, everyone, has no limits, The maniquein, the taxidermy, the circus, skin walkers, grifters bone, breekon and Hope,  angler fish
The desolation, the cult of the lightless flame, Jims pims aka Jude Perry, Agnes,
People's Church of the divine host, Rayner, Rayner have something to do with the German crypt, Rayner Is also not dead
The diggy boys, the buried, Maggie and Gordon from the dump, dig dude from Dig, whatever was going on with the pit, and the dust storm.
Meat, no recurring. The haans that's it.
Buggy boys, spiders, Jane prentiss
Michael, the twisting deceit, the twisting deceit just is Michael, didn't exist before him
The leitners, the witches are using the books, Gérard, Mike crew,
Cthulhu collective, the lukas', the Fairchild's. Both are just isolation, the Fairchild's are all about being alone, the only time the Lukas have turned up are being alone either in space or at sea
The witches, Mary Keay, puzzle witch, have big crossover with the Leitners, they just have some of leitners books
Trevor is his own entity, is he part of the desease and corruption group
The architects, smirke, smirkes apprentice.
Jared is his own thing. Just found a self help book
It's a giant celestial orgy!
Also Came up with a random spinoff comedy again
Slowly the archive collects strange people
Michael, who is mourning Gertrude... Loudly
They found a worm in the tunnel left over from Prentiss
The worm loves gooseberries
That's Elias, we're not sure what he is
Thats the Admiral, it is a cat.... It runs the place
Rayner is sat in the corner giggling
Leitner started a microbrewery in the basement
Serves bud leitner, you can't get leitner than this

Title: Sea shells and all the things he left behind 2/2 Summary: Somehow explaining that you were raised by a siren is not an easy task. AN: I wrote a sequel. Wild, i know.
Read on AO3
Dick didn’t have a chance to explain anything to Wally or anyone else at the aquarium until after Bruce was settled. The siren wouldn’t sleep, Dick would be surprised if he did in unfamiliar terrain, but he had calmed again. The boy, Tim, or secret-who-paints if Dick had caught that correctly, was sitting at the edge of the pool, dressed in a new set of clothes. His legs were dangling in the water and every so often Bruce would pull at them, reassuring himself and the boy. Far more often than that though, his large tail fin dragged against Dick’s legs. His scales were sharp, could cut if grabbed incorrectly, but he had never hurt Dick and even now caressed him as softly as he used to. The entire day had been exhausting and nothing short of a train wreck.
Dick wanted to go home and sleep.
The fact that he couldn’t really recall whether home was the apartment he shared or the caves he had grown up in didn’t help his mind either.
His tiredness must show because Roy and Wally both were sitting next to him in the red zone – the five-meter room all handlers were supposed to stay out of unless they wanted a siren to drag them into the water. From experience Dick knew that that space wouldn’t be enough if Bruce wanted to get to them. He was massive, large even by siren standards and more stubborn than anyone else. If he wanted you dead, you’d be no matter how far away from him you truly stayed.
“Dick,” Wally finally spoke up. “What is going on?”
Dick had no idea how he was supposed to start. He hadn’t ever said a word to anyone, not a single living soul. He’d been angry at Bruce when he had left, but not so angry that he would give away all their secrets.
He turned to look at his father and the mer clicked at him. Yes.
“I was nine when that huge earthquake hit Gotham,” Dick heard himself say. He felt like he was miles, years away from this room and moment. “We were performing in Gotham. I think I told you that I used to be part of a circus?”
Wally and Roy both nodded. Dick was pretty sure that even if he hadn’t, they’d have known. Dick would always be flipping, spinning, jumping and flying. Being an acrobat was in his blood.
“When the earthquake hit, we were in one of the underground trains. Gotham was built pretty much artificially. The earthquake shook it up pretty good and the support just broke. There are large caves underground, huge water dwellings. You can cross the entire city underground without ever touching the surface. Paths towards it are far and few and difficult to access. Most of the people living down there are physically unable to reach them. They don’t particularly care about them.”
“People?” Roy inquired.
Dick smiled wearily. “Yes, people. Mers. There is pretty much a second city right below Gotham. The waters there are toxic, mutated after years of waste being stuffed into them so most of the mers never leave. They’re pretty much incapable of breathing actually clean seawater.”
Dick glanced at Bruce again, who held his head high above the water. He’d always been able to breathe air as well, so he wasn’t suffering too much, but it would aid his recovery if he’d be allowed to submerge completely. They should throw some chemicals in the water, up the chlorine levels. Maybe Bruce’s fins would shine as prettily as they usually did then as well.
“But yes, the earthquake hit and the train crashed into one of those caves. Most people died upon impact or were so severely injured that they died soon after. Others drowned in the water.”
Roy and Wally looked positively sick. Dick couldn’t even blame them. He’d gotten used to the sight of bloated corpses, death and bloodshed to a degree that was honestly concerning.
“But you didn’t,” Wally said and sounded like he was half reassuring himself that his best friend was still there.
“I didn’t,” Dick replied. “Bruce saved me.”
The siren in question frowned when Dick’s friends both set their sights on him, confusion coloring their expressions. It was a little funny, to be honest.
“His name is Bruce?”
Roy’s voice sounded almost a little hysterical. He was probably trying to save up his panic attack for when he could afford to lose his calm in the privacy of his own home.
“It’s actually dark-who-swims-with-the-sharks,” Dick pointed out.
Wally mouthed the clicks and thrills Dick had let out so very easily by comparison, but just shook his head and gave up. “Yeah, that totally sounds like Bruce.”
“I was nine, I couldn’t exactly pronounce it either,” Dick defended himself. Bruce had been very proud of him the first time he actually had gotten it right. His name was still too long to use it regularly so the nickname had stuck.
“So Bruce saved you and what? Helped you back to the surface?”
“After a couple years,” Dick answered.
He didn’t want to think too much about it. In the beginning Bruce had been more concerned that Dick would make it through the nights. He had been injured by the fall and Dick almost couldn’t recall how long it had been until he’d been able to move on his own. A month or two? Probably longer. His diet had suffered a lot and he’d lost a lot of weight until Bruce had figured out that he could not in fact live of fish, never mind raw fish, alone. But then Dick had needed to learn how to hold his breath for a longer duration, until he could swim from the cave that was their home to the next and so on. He was fairly sure that if he tested against the current world champion, he’d be able to hold his breath minutes longer than them without any preparation.
“It’s not like there was anybody else and Bruce was the only other person who could understand me besides Alfred.”
Alfred had rarely left Bruce’s side, they were family after all. Dick knew that it was a common misconception amongst humans that sirens were solitary creatures, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. They just usually didn’t go anywhere near humans with the rest of their family and were therefore only ever spotted and caught on their own.
“Who is Alfred?”
“Another siren. Bruce’s sort of parent but not. It’s complicated and doesn’t translate well into English. He raised Bruce after his… owners died. Point is that I spent six years down in there with him until I reached the surface again for the first time. I think I looked like death, there’s not exactly a lot of bioluminescent fauna down there. I left when I was seventeen because I wanted to be amongst humans again. Studied a lot, played catch up with long-forgotten human manners and here I am.”
“Here you are,” Wally echoed, then froze up, realization settling in. “Is that why you didn’t know any TV shows whatsoever?”
“What?”
That was absolutely not the question Dick had expected. In fact, he had thought that at least one of them would run out screaming by now, calling the nearest clinic because Dick Grayson has gone insane! Or if not that, maybe a government office to inform that that mers were in fact as sentient as humans, had a language and one of them even raised a child. Wonder if that would get Dick an entry on Wikipedia.
“And your obsession with spices,” Wally continued. “And fruits. How are you even healthy, your diet must have been the stuff of nightmares.”
“It was okay,” Dick said. “Just because it’s hard for me to get in and out of the caves, doesn’t mean it was for everyone else. Bruce and Alfred brought me stuff they found out in the sea or on the beaches. I had clothes and like bagged chips, dried fruits and instant noodles. Even a couple books once we figured out how to transport them safely and life got a lot better after I could make my own trips upstairs. And then I left.”
That felt like a simplification, but he didn’t want to share all the gruesome details of that period. Sure, he had gotten books and could actually get caught up on school and the like, but he’d almost drowned on the regular making those trips, which lead to fights with Bruce which lead to leaving which lead to this.
Dick turned to the kid who had listened attentively to the conversation, but hadn’t actually added anything to it. He was a quiet boy, silent in a way Dick had never been. He had always been babbling in any language he knew, from English, Chinese and Spanish to Bruce’s language and all the other dialects of it that his friends had taught him.
“Shit, dude,” Roy cursed and buried his head in his hands. “You got raised by a freaking mer. You got raised by a mer. How-?”
The rest of Roy’s question was lost to the overwhelming realization that Dick was not just one of them. He hadn’t ever felt like it, but he had been able to pretend and that had been good enough. There simply hadn’t been another option.
“So you haven’t actually spoken with… Bruce ever since?”
“No,” Dick answered. “No, I have not and now I’d like to know you found me.”
The kid, Tim, apparently didn’t catch onto the fact that Dick was talking to him now. His head was dropping and his eyes fluttering shut. He had had one hell of a day, just as exhausting as Dick if not worse because he was years younger than Dick
“Kid showed up here with a stolen boat and Bruce tucked into the cooler,” Wally said.
“Not stolen,” Tim muttered sleepily. “It’s mine. My parents were on it.”
When he said parents, his voice quivered so badly that Dick thought he was going to cry any second. Bruce picked up on that as well and moved away from Dick to pay full attention to Tim. He tugged on his legs again, trilling softly, and Tim pushed himself off the pool’s edge and jumped straight into the water, into Bruce’s arms. It was straight to see another child cling to Bruce when recalling how he used to hang onto Bruce. The fins on his arms were so long, Dick had been able to disappear completely in his embrace when he’s been younger. Only his black hair had been visible, like it was now with Tim. Wally and Roy stood up in alarm, but Dick gestured for them to sit down again. He supposed it looked frightening to them, the ocean’s most terrifying killers gently consoling a young child.
“What happened?” Dick asked Bruce.
Tim was in no shape of answering now and Dick wouldn’t force him too, no matter how much he wanted an explanation.
“I was caught,” Bruce replied. “I was looking for terror-who-laughs, but secret-who-paints’s parents found me and put me in a viewing glass. Showed me off to other humans, but secret-who-paints is smart, kind. He’s a good child.”
Bruce scowled and the displeasure was apparent. He hadn’t been in a pool since he was twelve and the Wayne’s had died. Being locked up like that again most have been horrible, especially since whoever Tim’s parents were, they definitely wouldn’t have been able to contain Bruce in a pool big enough for him.
“And then venom-in-his-blood came.”
Dick paled. He had hoped that he had misheard Tim before, that the child had made a mistake in his panic, but-
“Venom-in-his-blood? Are you sure?”
“He attacked their ship,” Bruce continued. “Pulled them off, I’ve been on the sea with secret-who-paints on my own since, we only barely managed to escape.”
“But why would venom-in-his-blood show up in the first place? You defeated him years ago.”
Dick remembered that battle vividly. He had been much younger than, small and helpless and had to watch from afar as Bruce and venom-in-his-blood tore into one another.
“He came back,” Bruce spat. “He came back and Gotham’s falling apart.”
“What are you two talking about?” Wally asked uneasily. “It sounds serious but we don’t speak… that.”
“There is a mer, another siren,” Dick began to explain. “His name is-“ Dick sighed in frustration. ”Just call him Bane. He’s dangerous, incredibly tall. Easily the biggest siren I’ve ever seen, bigger than the ones we have on record here. He attacks humans and mers alike.”
“What for?”
Dick turned to Bruce and Tim. Bruce was swimming slower now, just floating on the surface, really. The kid must have fallen asleep.
“Fun and hunger,” Dick finally replied after moments of silence. “He’s a cannibal and once he set his eyes on his prey, he doesn’t stop.”
Which meant that the moment Bruce swam back to Gotham, Bane would attack him.

BTS365 Prompt.Week25
[Full Masterlist] [Prompt Masterlist]
Beta: @jung-hoseok-s-airplane
Please tag me in your work if you use my prompts. I want to see your work. Ever your Jester.
Tell me your birthday and I will tag you on your special day!
═══════ ೋღ ღೋ ═══════
        June 18th - 24th
═══════ ೋღ ღೋ ═══════
Kim Seokjin - panic @absoluteyoongit (I am so sorry I didn’t get to post it on your birthday, but still Happy Birthday my love)
You were at the BTS concert. It took all your savings, a countdown timer and quick refresh skills and you had scored mosh pit tickets. The concert was amazing. The fans were shrieking, pressing you to the gates and you were a little annoying. Until you were actually elbowed in the face by a fan during Dionysus.
You fell forward over the gate and was grabbed by security, passing out with an apology.
You woke to ice to your neck, you were sat hunched forward, hands holding your shoulders and chin.
You blinked sitting up noticing the two medics were holding a bloody rag to your nose and you apologized taking the cloth and holding it.
"How are you feeling?" The woman asked.
"Uh my head hurts, some girl elbowed me during Dionysus, but I guess you couldn't blame her it's a really good song," it was awfully quiet and you had a nervous sick feeling, "what time is it, am I okay? I don't want to miss the concert"
"It is over," she said and you frowned.
"No it can't be over, I paid so much and I didn't get to even see them perform their new songs"
"I am sorry, but the concert is over, you can head home if you are ready just follow the exit signs," she said quietly you nodded holding your emotions in.
You grabbed your small bag and stepped out the infirmary, tears starting to flow. Following the exit signs the further away you got the more you broke down.
Until you bumped into someone re-injuring your nose and fell back onto your behind, openly crying as you sat like a child, shirt all bloody and nose bleeding once more.
"Oh I'm so sorry" the voice said, it was soft and unsure, "I didn't mean to hurt you?"
A figure crouched in front of you and tilted your head a little to look you over, "Are you badly hurt?"
"I missed the concert," you sobbed and wiped your eyes, “I used all my money for the best seat in the house but I was knocked out. I didn't get to see any of their new songs.”
"Hey shh, neoneun neui jigu, nege nan just a moon, me mameul baikyeojuneun neoui jageun byeol, neoneun naui jigu and all I see is you," he sang and you looked up to see the Kim Seokjin kneeling in front of you holding his handkerchief to your nose and smiling.
The only appropriate response was for panic to set in.
Min Yoongi - picnic
You were planning to have a picnic with your boyfriend of many years when he called and said he wasn’t able to attend but everything sounded suspicious especially the woman giggling in the background. So here you sat in the parking lot of a hotel with a picnic basket full of homemade snacks
You entered the lobby and made the trek to the front desk. The young man at the front desk looked up and laughed at your light sky blue sundress, mismatched red coat and picnic basket. “Hello, little red riding hood, how can I help you?”
“I am looking for my boyfriend,” you said seriously, giving him the name and his face fell looking at your concerned face. “Are you sure he is at this hotel, maybe I spelt his name wrong.”
“The idiot used my credit card, I know he is here with another woman. You will give me the key to the room I paid for.”
“With pleasure little red, I will come with you purely for your protection.” He grabbed the keys and sprung over the desk shouting “I am on lunch, Mister Seokjin!”
The two of you took the elevator up to the fourteenth floor, where he asked you about you and your partner. He asked you all sorts of questions and generally being nosey but he was funny.
“Who rents a room at midday to cheat on someone, psychopaths, I am glad you found out now before you got murdered or something.” Making you laugh and taking your mind off the present issues regarding your cheating and lying boyfriend.
“Listen little red, I finish work in less than thirty minutes. Let’s go on this picnic” He gave a cheeky smile showing all his pink gums. And for a moment you were happy with what had happened.
Jung Hoseok - sauntering
Hoseok was walking leisurely through Malta trying to find some souvenirs for the other boys. It was a hot day and he had lost Namjoon in a crowd, the music pulled Hoseok and when he looked back he was alone with only one cameraman. That’s when he saw you working at a restaurant, weaving through tables while dancing to the street music.
You moved so elegantly rolling your head to the side while placing plates down at the tables. You didn’t walk, you glided slowly captivating him, every movement was so simple and yet looked like you were an angel floating and inch above the ground.
In a way he was right, your six-inch heels kept you lighter than air on your feet and yet never let you touch the ground. Your hips swinging in figure eights exaggeratedly and seductively but it was your natural gait.
He adjusted his collar and hat and went to saunter over letting his body move to the music in hopes to impress you like some nature documentary where the male species must impress the female with their moves.
Kim Namjoon - juggling
The circus seemed like a fun idea, he thought the other members would enjoy the stunts and jokes and more. They were only in town for a week so he knew he had to get it over and done with before they missed out. It was a carefree night filled with ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ but then she appeared in a sparkly crimson leotard her lips as red as her outfit and she moved with grace to the music.
Lowered from the ceiling she unravelled herself like a present and he watched her move the lights hitting her figure just right casting a silhouette onto the back of the tent, she rolled her hips and danced on pointed to kicking her legs and she began juggling three became four became five, six, seven and she spun and danced never dropping a single one.
She started juggling both hands above her head and she slid into the splits and caught all the balls raising both hands into the air. He would be back.
Park Jimin - Daylight (this will become a story but the details of the scene and how the reader finds the elevator might be different)
You were being chased by a young woman trying to take your bag, you took a wrong turn in a shopping mall’s parking lot followed by at least four more until you reached an old abandoned floor below the basement you could hear her coming and you looked around finding a door with a faint glowing keypad, you pressed each number four times.
1,1,1,1. No.
2,2,2,2. No.
3,3,3,3. No.
4,4,4,4. Beep. Yes, the reset sequence works on most old pin code machines. You snuck inside and it locked behind you.
Inside the room was kind of dark, you saw small glowing arrows one pointing up the other down, pressing the down arrow the doors opened and light poured in.
It was an elevator and it looked like it was in good condition, stepping inside you pressed the button and headed down. What you saw shocked you; it was like an artificial world. It seemed to go on for a fairway, you could just see walls in the distance but there were lights that created an artificial daylight.
The roof had screens showing a fake sky, there must have been UV lights as the trees and vegetation were growing well. Then of course there was the elevator shaft you were in, the further you went down the more you saw, animals and buildings and people.
They turned to you watching the elevator come to a stop each holding weapons, it was then you noticed how big this underground ecosystem was and on top of that, the people were all handsome young men.
They all looked scared of you except one. Jimin looked at you curiously. He had never seen anything like you before, what were you, you looked like him and yet different?
Kim Taehyung - ring
Taehyung’s ears were damaged and he barely had any hearing left all except for the constant ringing. He decided to just use sign language and live his life that is until he met you. You were like a breath of fresh air and you could sign a small hearing aid in your ear brightly colored for your own enjoyment and for others to notice.
Jeon Jungkook - writer
Jungkook took his monthly wage and ran through the town, he passed a man with a long scar down his face which vaguely reminded him of the king. His thoughts were interrupted by a bearded man hitting him over the head with his fishing pole and Jungkook grabbed him by the collar and punched him.
The scuffle didn’t take long, as both parties had yielded blaming the man with the scar. Jungkook continued on his way and finally arrived at the postal service.
“Any letters for me Jimin?”
“None today,” he smiled, “you here to send another?”
“Only the best for my pretty flower.”
“What would you like it to say?”
“My dearest…” Jungkook poured his heart out and Jimin wrote it for him. And the letter was sealed and Jimin grinned, taking the small silver coin and handing back a few even bronze ones.

The Binge Eater
Summary:

In his entire career as a Pro Hero, Aizawa met many kinds of Villains and has captured many Villains. But never in his life did he meet a Villain as odd as this kid right here.
No one knew who the boy was, but he was given many names.
The Binge Eater, Fire Fist, Eat-n-Runner, Dine and Dash, the Running Man, Broke-Ass Kid with Bottomless Stomach.
Aizawa did not know where that second name came from, but he was certainly the one who gave the brat that last one. Like all his names (except that second one) suggested, the kid was a serial dine and dasher.
He would go into restaurants, fill up that bottomless stomach of his and ran off without paying.
In the beginning, restaurants that suffered from lost thanks to the kid would all call the police, demanding the brat to be caught. But a couple of months later, bags of money would suddenly appear in every restaurant the boy had eaten in, paying back enough money to cover a whole month of their expenses. And there will always be a card there, specifically stating that these were compensations for the trouble the brat had given to these restaurants.
When words of this got out, the boy instantly became famous throughout every single restaurant in Japan. It became these restaurant owners’ dreams to get the boy to dine and dash at their stores—so much so that it became a competition between their circles to see who will be lucky to have the boy as customer.
While the eat and runs were been taken care of—as weird as that was—there was a more serious issue.
It was the brat’s clear disregard for Quirk restriction laws.
On many of his runs from the police and Heroes, the boy had used his Quirk.
He used these Quirks to evade getting caught by Heroes and has even been seen in fights against Villains with such Quirk. The boy has even fought against Pro Heroes such as Endeavour who got thoroughly beaten in a battle of fire.
That wasn’t something the police and Heroes could overlook anymore.
And so, the Binge Eater was officially put onto the list of Villains.
Aizawa has no idea who the boy was. Even the police couldn’t find a file on the kid, but he must have some background considering how much money was used to cover up his eat and run antics—along with property damages. He didn’t know why the boy was doing such a thing, but his illegal use of Quirks couldn’t be overlooked.
That was how Aizawa found himself standing inside a restaurant on a Saturday evening, using his Capture Weapons to hold down the infamous eat and runner.
“Oh! If it isn’t Eraser!” The brat greeted him cheerfully. “How long has it been?! Hey Sakumoto! Get the beer! We’re gonna have a party over here!”
“Roger that!” A waiter yelled from across the restaurant, giving the boy and Aizawa a thumb up.
“We are not having any party!” Aizawa growled at the waiter. This was another thing he could never understand. As long as this brat was involved, the IQ of the people around would pummel downward like an elevator with the wires cut.
“Got caught again, Ace-chan?” An old man—one of the restaurant’s regular customers—laughed.
“Ace-chan, Ace-chan~! Look over here!” An older woman called, holding up her phone to snap a picture of the moment. The Binge Eater even complied, turning with a wide grin on his face.
“The police will get here soon, Ace!”
“Ace!! We’re all rooting for ya!”
“Come to think of it, who’s that Hero holding Ace-kun down?”
“Dunno…never seen him.”
Voices echoed around Aizawa, but he ignored it all. As much as he loved to retort and remind these civilians that this boy was a Villain, he needed to focus. Despite how the boy behaved, it was a known fact amongst the Heroes how dangerous he was. Aizawa couldn’t afford to mess it up.
“By the way, how’s All Might? I haven’t seen him for a while now! Pretty surprising that he would suddenly become a teacher at a school.”
“Don’t test my patience, kid," Aizawa threatened and tightened the binding. “Save it for when we arrive at the station.”
Right on cue, the echoes of sirens could be heard coming towards the restaurant’s direction.
Aizawa pulled on the bindings, but the kid refused to budge. Instead of panicking like any ordinary Villain would, the boy gave him a nasty grin.
“Nah, I like my freedom a little too much.”
The brat spun, reeling in the Capture Weapon—along with Aizawa—while his right leg swept over the mountains of dishes and plates he had piled up towards the underground Hero.
Later that night, a video went viral within Japan.
There were multiple videos taken from the customers within the restaurant, showing how a raven-haired freckled boy kicked a whole plate of chocolate cake (gift from the restaurant owner) right into the Erasure Hero: Eraser Head’s face.
The moment the Eraser Head’s face was smacked by the cake, flames erupted from below the boy’s waist. The boy easily slipped out of the Capture Weapon and shot through the roof like a rocket and vanished into the night sky.
Cheers and claps could be heard in the background with Aizawa standing there, the cake still stuck on his face but anyone could see the veins sticking out of his neck and hands that were fisting the Capture Weapon so tightly they were shaking.
Once more, the Villain by the name of the Binge Eater became top trending.
Along with Erasure Head’s embarrassing video were many other more embarrassing examples of other Heroes’ failed attempt in capturing the boy.
The fans of the Binge Eater (yes, the fucking brat got fans) even made a compilation of pictures showing exactly how the Binge Eater has outsmarted the Heroes.
A picture of Kamui Wood—surrounded by muscular men in drags trying to kiss him—after accidentally barging into the lady’s change room in an Okama bar during his pursuit of the Binge Eater.
A picture of Edgeshot flying right through a fire hoop in the middle of a circus performance. There were lions and the tamer in the background, gawking at the sudden appearance of the Hero and the Villan who was holding the hoop.
A picture of Mountain Lady who had her head buried under the rubble of a collapsed building with her ass up in the air as she struggled to pull herself out.
A picture of Fat Gum whose face was flat against the ground, arms sprawled out and his lower body was high up in the air—legs creating a perfect split with a yellow banana peel soaring into the distant sky.
A picture of Best Jeanist whose clothes were all burned away, leaving a tiny bit of cloth around his hips for decency.
A picture of Manual who was screaming from the boiling hot water that blasted back at him.
A picture of Mirko who was wrapped up into a gigantic ball of yarn and rolling down a traffic-filled slope.
A picture of Wash whose arms and legs were completely tied up by bright red ribbons and left by actual washing machines with a huge CLEARANCE sign stuck on his front.
A picture of Endeavour whose flames were shooting off in rage as he signed a cheque at a restaurant for the property damages (one table and a ton of dishes) the Hero had caused when he attempted to punch the Binge eater (who ducked) in the face.
A picture of Hawks at a yakitori restaurant with the Binge Eater, their arms wrapped around each other’s shoulders and...smiling towards the camera like best buds??
And the latest edition—a close-up of Eraser Head surrounded by a flurry of plates in the foreground and background with a chocolate cake covering his face. On the back of the cake’s plate, the tip of the Binge Eater’s black boot could be seen kicking the cake into the Hero’s mug.
If there was one thing all Heroes in Japan could agree on, it was that the Binge Eater was a little piece of shit.
By the time Monday came along, everyone in U.A High School knew what happened to the homeroom teacher of Class 1-A—including Class 1-A.
That entire morning, the kids felt like they were treading on landmines.
They wanted to ask, but none of them dared. They didn’t even dare to make a sound during their lesson as their teacher’s eyes were even dryer and redder than usual. It was only during lunch that they gathered in the cafeteria to talk about this infamous Villain.
“Doesn’t the Binge Eater seem really cool?!” Ashido held up her phone to show her classmates one of the many pictures of the Binge Eater on the internet.
“Ashido-kun, the Binge Eater is a Villain!” Iida reprimanded while making a chopping motion with his right arm. “As Heroes, we cannot look up to Villains!”
“I’m not looking up! I’m just talking about outlook!” Ashido quickly defended herself.
“But if you think about it, the Binge Eater never hurt anyone?” Kirishima pointed out. Doesn’t he just eat and run?”
“But he violates the Quirk laws.” Sero reminded the redhead. “I heard he injured quite a bit of Heroes. Even though none of them were serious, they still got hurt.”
“Yes, that’s not something we should overlook, just because he didn’t cause too much harm.” Yaoyorozu agreed.
“But still, you gotta give it to the guy for having the guts to do that to Aizawa-sensei…” Kaminari was shuddering just thinking about it.
“I wonder if sensei’s alright…” Uraraka said worriedly. “He seems really mad.”
“He’s just some fucking grown-ass man wanting attention,” Bakugou snorted. “I’ll fucking kill him if I ever see him!”
“Yeah…even if he doesn’t mean it, he’s violating the law.” Midoriya has to agree with his classmates. He also agreed with his childhood friend’s perspective that the Binge Eater was likely someone seeking attention. Why else would anyone do something like this? But even if it was for something that simple, a crime is a crime.
The Binge Eater was breaking the laws left and right and needed to be stopped before someone gets hurt.
The green-haired youth wanted to ask his homeroom teacher but shook that thought away when he recalled the cold air his teacher was emitting all morning.
After school was over, Midoriya turned to the only person on his list—All Might.
“The Binge Eater, hm?” All Might said after taking a sip of his tea. “I didn’t think you’d come to ask me about him.”
“Do you know him, All Might?” Midoriya questioned curiously.
“I don’t think there is a single Hero who hadn’t encountered him once or twice,” the blond sighed. He felt a headache coming from remembering that freckled boy with a smile too wide and too bright to be a Villain.
Since Heroes needed to be kept updated to the news at all times, he naturally knew of Aizawa’s unfortunate encounter with the boy. The video had even gotten onto the news with newscasters talking about it. Early this morning, there were hordes of journalists and reporters surrounding the school gate, demanding to hear comments from Aizawa with regards to the video.
He has never pitied his co-worker as much as now.
“So you have met him?” Midoriya gasped, not expecting that response. After all, if All Might—the No.1 Hero—has encountered the Binge Eater, why wasn’t the Binge Eater in prison? Why was he still running freely?
“It was two years ago when I first met that boy. He was eighteen at the time. His behavior wasn't evil but more like a child, so I thought I could speak to him and with proper education, we can put him back onto the straight path.”
“…What happened?” Midoriya asked carefully, not sure if it was something All Might would want to speak about considering how tired he sounded.
“He rejected me,” All Might replied, remembering back to that time. “He told me that he wanted to live freely.”
“To live…freely?” Midoriya felt that the phrasing was a bit weird.
“To live however he likes regardless of the law.” All Might’s gaze grew serious at this. “The lack of restraints that defines a Villain. When I realized that he couldn’t see it the right way, I tried to apprehend him. But as you can see…”
“Even you couldn’t catch him, All Might?” The teen gaped in shock.
“You shouldn’t look down on the Binge Eater, young Midoriya,” All Might told the boy seriously. “The Binge Eater’s Quirk is a very unusual fire Quirk unlike anything I’ve seen before. It’s no exaggeration to say that the Binge Eater is stronger than All for One.”
Midoriya stared at All Might with his mouth open, unable to wrap his head around what his mentor had said.
Stronger than All for One?
How was that possible?!
Then…wouldn’t that mean he was also stronger than All Might?!
Even if back then All Might was still suffering from his injuries…the Binge Eater was stronger? An eighteen years old boy?!
“What is his Quirk?” Midoriya hastily asked.
“Fire,” All Might replied simply. “If I have to put it into words…rather than having a fire Quirk, it’s like he is the fire.”
“What do you mean?”
“That boy can turn his body into flames.” All Might explained. “In other words, he has no solid body.”
“But that’s—”
“Impossible,” the Hero finished for his student. “You're right. There must be some sort of trick we haven’t figured out yet. But during our fight, I couldn’t even land a hit on him.”
“EH?!” If Midoriya wasn’t surprised before, he was thoroughly shocked now. All Might of all people couldn’t even land one hit?!
“Every time my fist touched him, I went right through his body. No matter how much power I put into it, the result was the same. My punches would all go through his body and that area of his body turned into flame. I tried to outspeed him so he wouldn't have time to react, but even so, that did nothing. As ashamed as I am to say, I couldn't do anything to him, nor could I stop him from leaving."
“But he must have some weakness!” Midoriya argued, not believing that his idol would ever be so powerless. All Might was the strongest! There was no way! "What about water?"
“Heroes with water Quirks that has encountered the Binge Eater all reported that their Quirks are useless on him.” All Might told the boy. “His fires can burn faster and hotter than the time they have to get their water out. Even now, we still do not know the limit of his Quirk. All we know is that throughout all the battles, we have yet to see a time where he is shown being worn out by his own flame or signs of his body overheating from overusing his Quirk.”
“That’s…” Midoriya didn’t know what to say. What can he say?
“The Binge Eater has never hurt any civilians and even in his fight against Heroes, he held back his strength. However, his behavior is too dangerous to be left alone. On top of his fame on social media, there is the danger of children being influenced by him and begin to recklessly use their Quirks in public. That's why even though the Binge Eater is perhaps the most harmless within Villains, he is on the top of the capture list for all active Heroes.”
Midoriya was completely lost for words.
He came to All Might due to his curiosity. He hadn't expected to uncover such a huge secret.
A couple of days later, the excitement and gossips in U.A over the Binge Eater died away. There will always be threads talking about the Binge Eater—where he was last sighted or what restaurants he went to—but nothing big that needed the entire media's attention.
That was until the U.A festival rolled along…
It happened during the match between Iida and Hatsume Mei.
During one of Hatsume’s introduction of her produces (using Iida as a demonstration), a voice suddenly shouted out from the audiences.
“How many of that Villain capture gun do you have?” The voice wasn’t loud, but it resounded within the sea of quiet audiences that were starting to become numb to the long match that became a sale.
“I have as many as you need!” Hatsume was quick to follow up with the sudden appearance of a potential buyer. “I can even customize the gun’s style, colour and firing range to your liking! If you buy a dozen packs, I will throw in an additional free pack!”
“I’ll have two dozen packs!”
“Thank you for your patronage!!” Hatsume’s eyes were practically shinning and she began promoting her other products to that customer.
“Uh…what a turn of events!” President Mic finally found his voice again. He shook out of his stupider and grabbed his mic once more. “After seven minutes of Hatsume Mei’s sales, we have a buyer in the audience! Let’s take a look at who this Hero is!”
Everyone turned towards the said Hero.
The man was wearing a yellow shirt, unbuttoned to reveal his muscular chest. He was holding a monocular over his eyes, using that to look at the girl while conversing with her. His bright orange hat rested upon a mass of raven black hair and on his right arm was a huge tattoo, spelling out A C E with a crossed-out S.
“Hey…doesn’t he look familiar?” One of the Heroes asked.
“Which Hero was he?” Another Hero wondered.
The muttering in the audiences suddenly quieted down.
Everyone stared at the orange hatted man, their eyes budging wider and wider with realization slowly sinking in.
“V…VILLAIN!!” President Mic screamed while Aizawa shot up—only to crumble back down due to his sudden movement pulling open some of his injuries. “THE BINGE EATER HAS APPEARED WITHIN THE AUDIENCE?!!”
“The Binge Eater?!” Midoriya gasped along with his classmates.
It was as if someone had hit the play button. In an instant, all the Heroes swarmed towards the infamous Binge Eater and pounced at him like hungry wolves.
“GET THAT LITTLE SHIT!!!” The Heroes roared with fire lighting their eyes. Just from this, anyone could tell how great the Binge Eater’s reputation was amongst these Heroes.
In an instant, the Sports Festival became a battle royal with Heroes vs the Binge Eater. Quirks were being blasted and explosions began blasting everywhere.
The little brat was laughing as he evaded all these attacks with eat. He didn’t use his Quirk—just stepping one Hero over another. With him jumping onto different Heroes, other Heroes had to hold back on their attacks and resort to getting near to capture him.
And with these Heroes swarming towards him, the Binge Eater gained more pebbles to step on.
At some point, he even got to the sky, where he began beating down the Heroes with nothing but his fists and legs.
He easily beat a Hero, kneeling the woman in the gut before using her body as leverage to jump onto another flying Hero that was coming in to help. This lasted five whole minutes with Heroes raining down from the sky and the Heroes that were grounded catching them.
Even the students could tell how one-sided the fight was.
President Mic was heatedly broadcasting the event on his mic like some sort of sports announcer while the homeroom teacher of Class 1-A struggled to recover from whatever he may have opened.
"This is bad, I need to go!" All Might shouted but was stopped by the Principal.
“Wait,” the white creature told him, looking at the battle in the sky. "Let's see how this plays out."
“But principal—”
“Something isn’t right. Why is the Binge Eater here—knowing how many Heroes are attending the Sports Festival?”
“That’s—” All Might thought back to his encounter with the boy and realized that the principal was right. Despite acting so carefree, the boy was smart. His countless getaways were proofs of that. Even if he wanted to come see the Sports Festival, he wouldn't do it so blatantly.
He was after something—that was the only explanation.
“W-what should we do?!” Uraraka shouted at the chaos in front of them.
“Perfect, I’ll fucking go kill him right now!” Bakugou roared, cracking his knuckles with an excited look on his face.
“Bakugou! We can’t!” Kirishima shouted, quickly stopping the explosive teen from joining the fight.
“That guy must be crazy, showing up in front of all these Heroes!” Sato shouted.
“Wait…what’s that?” Midoriya pointed at the mass of Heroes where a spark of orange light could be seen.
And then—from within the Heroes—a burst of bright orange flames.
“HIKEN!”
The flames expanded, pushing back the Heroes before shooting upward into the sky, becoming a bright beacon that pierced through the clouds.
Midoriya was nearly blown back from the intensity of the heat. He grabbed onto the railing and stared at the flames in disbelieve. The bright orange flames lasted a couple of seconds before it died away, but that was enough.
Everyone stared at the cloud, then to the single boy standing there.
He was young, he wasn’t extremely muscular, yet the power he displayed was anything but normal. Perhaps in this entire world, All Might was the only one capable of doing what this boy had just done.
Thanks to the fire and the heatwave, the Heroes were all pushed back, forming a large circle around the Binge Eater. The young man with an orange hat stood in the middle of the fighting stage with the stage’s surface completely scorched.
“Can’t we stop here?” the Binge Eater asked with a smile—completely unlike someone who had just blast a pillar of fire into the sky.
Midoriya looked closely and found that the man was holding Hatsume’s mic. The pink-haired girl from the Support class had long run off to avoid getting caught up in the battle.
“Binge Eater, why are you here!” Kamui Wood demanded, pulling back his woods that were now literally charcoal.
“Would you believe me if I say I’m here to enjoy the show?” The Binge Eater replied in a smirk.
“Portgas D. Ace.”
Hearing the call of his name, the Binge Eater—or Ace, turned to see a white creature that looked like a gigantic mouse walking up to the stage with the Ectoplasm and Hound Dog by his side.
Behind him, Ace also noticed Midnight, Vlad King, and Cementoss slowly edging forward.
Instead of showing any worries of being surrounded, Ace was obviously more interested in the U.A principal.
He crouched down, eyeing the little creature with great interest. “Are a Mink?”
“I have been called a mouse, a bear or even a dog, but a mink is a first!” The principal grinned with his beady eyes staring at Ace. “I am Nedzu, the principal of U.A High School."
“Well, please pardon my intrusion, principal!” Ace laughed and offered a hand.
The principal walked up to the Villain fearlessly and shook that large hand with his tiny paw.
“Since you’re a principal in a school for Heroes, I take it that you’re a Hero too?”
"Indeed! But at the moment, I am just a principal!” Nedzu replied. “Hero or not, as the principal of U.A High School, we have the obligation to bring you in. Please cooperate with us. I can tell you have a kind heart, Ace. We don't want to fight you.”
"Neither do I, but—" Ace let go of that furry paw and straightened his back. "Obeying law was never really my thing."
“Portgas D. Ace—the Binge Eater. You are wanted for the repeated offense in breaking the Quirk restriction law, resisting capture and injuring Heroes!” Midnight announced, cracking her whip against the ground. “You have nowhere to go, come with us or we will resort to force.”
Ace opened his mouth, but suddenly stopped and whirled around. His eyes were wide as he stared up into the sky—at the hole his flames created within the cloud. Everyone immediately tensed up. They got into their positions, ready to engage in a fight. But in such a tense moment, the Heroes heard a screeching sound coming from afar.
“What’s that?”
The Heroes began to look around. At first, none of them could see anything but soon, the crowds started to get noisy as they all looked towards that hole in the cloud.
“Ha…hahahahaha!” Ace suddenly began to laugh, startling the Heroes who looked back down to see tears streaming down the boy’s face.
“You’re so slow…” Ace mumbled, eyes locking onto the hole where something flew out of it. Another screech came, this one much clearer than the first.
It was the call of a bird.
“What’s that?” Ashido squinted up at the sky. “Is that…a bird?”
“Are birds…supposed to be…that…BIG?!” Sero screamed out the last part for that the bird was now much closer, revealing its form for everyone to see.
The bird was gigantic. And what was more shocking was that the cyan blue colour on its body weren’t feathers, but fire!
With another screech, the bird tucked its wings in and the speed of its drop increased. The Heroes barely had time to brace themselves before the bird had already arrived. The bird flew around the arena, sending out a whirlwind of blue fire that swept the Heroes off their feet.
“Duck!” Iida screamed and all of them ducked down as blue flames blasted towards where they sat as well.
All they felt was a sharp gust of wind and then everything was quiet. Confused, Midoriya slowly poked his head out only to jump up with a sharp gasp.
All the Heroes had been thrown back—including the principal and the U.A teachers. The bodies of the Heroes were scattered all over the place. Midoriya couldn't tell how they were from this far away, but he didn't see any signs of burn, unlike that orange flame the Binge Eater had sent out.
When Midoriya looked back to where the Binge Eater was, he saw the raven with another man he has never seen before. He was a tall man with a tuff of golden blond hair on the top of his head. He was smiling widely with a prickle of tear staining his eyelash as he hugged the raven-haired Villain.
As for the Binge Eater…he was sobbing.
For the first time anyone has seen, the usually cheerful boy was crying. He hugged onto the taller man tightly, fingers digging into the man’s purple jacket as he cried into his shoulders.
The Binge Eater dropped his mic onto the ground, but the mic was still picking up on their words and broadcasting it for the world to hear.
“Marco! Marco! Marco!” The boy called out that name repeatedly while crying his bawling his eyes out.
“I’m here yoi,” the man name Marco mumbled, hugging onto the younger man even tighter. “I’m here, Ace.”
"I knew it…you're the one giving the money to the restaurants! You were the one…why didn't you come see me?!"
“I’m sorry,” the older man apologized. “I wasn’t sure if you remember…no, I was afraid that…”
The man struggled with words a couple of times before he let out a frustrated sigh and smiled bitterly. “I’m sorry for leaving you alone for so long, Ace.”
“I missed you so much! I missed pops and everyone else!”
“They missed you too, Ace.”
The raven's cries were instantly cut off. He pulled back, staring at the blond with a look of disbelief before he was crying all over again. This time with a wide smile he couldn't hold back on his face.
“Thank you for coming back to us, Ace.” Marco closed his eyes and tucked his face into the raven hair and enjoyed the warmth within his arms. He was only able to savor the moment for a couple of seconds before he had to pull away and turned to the person walking up to them.
It was the No.1 Hero, All Might.
“Sorry for all the trouble this guy has caused,” Marco apologized, smiling easily despite being in the No.1 Hero’s presence. “If I say that he won't ever be a bother anymore, will you let us go?”
“I’m afraid not.” All Might’s hands rolled into fists. “We’ll need both of you to come with us.”
“You Heroes are always so uptight yoi.” The man smirked before blue flames burst out of him.
All Might took a step forward and threw out a punch, but instead of disbursing, the flame grew bigger within the violent wind. The colour of blue and orange mixed, creating perfect harmony and shot up into the sky—sending another blast of heatwave across the arena.
That gigantic bird made of fire surfaced from the flames, carrying the boy on its back as it flew off into the distance.
None of the Heroes chased after them. None of those who could keep up with the bird’s speed has the proper Quirk in stopping the pair and those who can, cannot fly.
The only person who might be capable was All Might, but the Hero stood on the burnt platform and watched them leave. In his mind, the scene of the Binge Eater crying in such heartbroken way and how much that Marco was holding back from crying made All Might hesitant to go after them.
From the bits and pieces of what he heard them, it seemed like the two of them had been separated for a long time—both of them looking for one another. That was why the Binge Eater always made such a huge scene to get people to notice him. He was putting himself out there to search for that man with some sort of mutation bird and fire Quirk.
While the man named Marco had found the Binge Eater, he didn’t reveal himself and instead chose to watch over him. Once the Binge Eater realized that, he resorted coming into the Sports Festival to put himself in front of all Heroes, forcing the other man to come out.
It wasn’t just All Might who thought of this. Everything that happened was broadcast live for the whole world to witness. In an instant, all of the fans of the Binge Eater band together to protest against the government—demanding them to remove the label of Villain from Portgas D. Ace.
There were many debates over whether or not the Binge Eater’s action could be justified.
The Binge Eater has violated the laws.
He was a lost kid trying to find home.
He used his Quirks.
He helped defeated Villains.
He also attacked Heroes.
He never seriously hurt them.
He is a threat to society.
He helped an old lady crossed the road and made friends with the people around him.
The debate went on and on without ever coming to a conclusion. Perhaps it never well, as there was no right or wrong.
The government refused to take down the Binge Eater from the position of a Villain.
They stated that no matter what the reason was, the Binge Eater has violated the law and must be held accountable. However, given special circumstances, the government was willing to give the boy a pardon if he turned himself in—together with the blond man that also violated the Quirk law.
The governments also as far as to allow the court to be public for the world to see, promising a fair judgment on both fire Quirk users. This made the protesters quiet down. If Ace did go to court, he was promised minimal sentencing and maybe even none at all depending on how good his lawyer was. The government clearly stepped back to present this opportunity, so all that was left was Portgas D. Ace’s response.
The citizens anxiously waited, but the raven-haired male never showed up again or announced that he will accept the government's deal.
The police were working overtime trying to track down where the two fire users had disappeared off to. They couldn’t find anything—not even the satellite could pinpoint where these two had gone. They ran multiple searches on the man name Marco but like Ace, there was no data on their files.
Either the man was some sort of wanted criminal that erased his past, or the man had smuggled into the country. Considering how no one has ever seen such unique Quirk like a flaming bird, they were leaning towards the latter. If so, then this led them towards a possibility they hadn’t considered before.
Could these two have left Japan already?
There were many questions from both the police and civilians, but these answers will never be found…until one year later, that was.
As people gradually began to forget the beloved boy that would frequent the restaurants, a picture surfaced on the internet.
It was a picture of a boy, smiling brightly against the camera while holding onto a Villain capture gun. He seemed to be in some sort of bar filled with a bunch of shaggy looking men in the background. They were all looking at the camera, raising large mugs in the air.
Marco was there, sitting not far from Ace with a fond and relaxed smile on his face. There was someone next to Marco as well, but all people could see was a huge boot. Either that was a fake, or that there was a giant in the room.
On the floor in the middle of the bar was a brown-haired man in chief clothing sporting an impressive pompadour. He seemed to be yelling at Ace while clawing at the red net wrapped around him.
The very next day after the picture spread like wildfire on the internet, Power Loader stormed into Hatsume Mei’s workroom and screamed at her for two whole hours about selling products to Villains. Naturally, the pink-haired girl didn’t think she was in the wrong at all, so it was settled with Power Loader taking away all of her equipment and banned her from any creation for a whole week.
Everything went back to normal, and their world continued like normal.
Occasionally, people would speak of the Binge Eater and the man who defeated over hundreds of Heroes with a single blast of blue flames, but their stories were gradually forgotten as the threat of Villains loomed over the country.

Enter Skylor, the laconic, acrobatic, chi-blocking daughter of a Fire Nation high-up, and Akita, the borderline feral knife-wielding niece of Vex, the warden of the Boiling Rock, who ran off to join a circus. Harumi ‘recruits’ the two girls, who she had ‘befriended’ years ago when she was first brought to the Firelords palace, to help her track down the Avatar. They were also sort of friends with Morro when they were kids too (there will be no ships between these four. They might be shipped with other people, but not with each other.) Also, Akita is a little younger than the other three, but won her right to hang with the ‘big kids’ by being able to pin a fly to the wall with a toothpick at thirty feet when she was 8 and the others were 10-11.
Wu and Morro are working their way to Ba Sing Se, under the guise of being refugees. There are shenanigans. (Wu 100% makes tea out of the poison bush thing. Morro almost broke his neck rolling his eyes at that) There are stupid fake names. There is bonding. They don’t end up splitting up like Zuko and Iroh do, but they do get unintentionaly separated at one point (more on that later).
Also, Kai’s acting a tad more overprotective than normal bc of what happened with Zane. And he’s acting that way toward everyone, including Maya and Garm. That will be addressed later.
Team Avatar is heading to the city of Omashu to try and find an earthbender they had meet there before, a guy who was actually a friend of Koko’s from her travels before she settled down in the South Pole. I have no idea who this character will be yet and am open to suggestions (mb one of the Serpentine Generals? Or one of the Elemental Masters? They’re some of the side characters I like, so they might work but idk). They stop briefly at an Earth Kingdom base, where they meet one General Kozu, who has the brilliant idea to try and weaponize a thirteen-year-old boy.
This does not go well. Garm, Maya, and Nya are staunchly against this, Kai thinks if they had a sure-fire way to get it to work without hurting Lloyd they should go for it, but if he thinks Lloyd is in danger he will step in, and Lloyd is scared, but thinks that if they can get this Avatar State plan to work and end the war now, long before the comet arrives, then it’s worth the risk. Kozu does the thing where he makes it look like he’s trapped Garm underground to suffocate (what happened to Katara)(also, there will be no ships between Lloyd and any of the ninja or Morro). Kozu gets his butt whooped and his base trashed.
And now we get to the next ninja to join the plot! In a second. Maya, Nya, and Lloyd are practicing waterbending, Garm and Kai had been doing a little firebending practice but had started chilling. And then they meet the nomad musician stoners, who are a few of the Elemental Masters. Jacob (Sound) is definitely one of them, a couple I haven’t decided on, and Jay! Jay’s a nonbender (I couldn’t for the life of me come up with a way to make him a firebender so he can use lightning) and an inventor who is following these weird flower hippies around bc they said they could get him to a city where he could try and sell his inventions. That was months ago. He has not seen a city. He has not been able to properly bathe. He is regretting several life choices.
Jay is instantly enamored with Nya (sorry if you hardcore ship Jaya, but that ship aint gonna happen here. I don’t like, hate the ship, but it’s really not my favorite), the strong waterbender who was instantly intrigued by his inventions (I think a character in Legend of Korra has some kind of lightning glove thing. One of Jays inventions is something like that) and was able to understand and keep up with his technobabble. He thinks he’s found his dream girl, and an excuse to get away from the smelly flower people! Jay begs Team Avatar if he can come with them. They say yes.
They can’t make it over the mountain, so they have their adventure in the Cave of Two Lovers. They get separated into three groups, Ultra, Garm and Maya, Kai and the musicians, and Jay and Nya. Jay keeps trying to awkwardly flirt with Nya, who actually doesn’t realize that he’s flirting bc she’s worried about her family and focused on getting out of the caves. They find the crystal path thing when their last torch either burns out or gets dropped and snuffed out. Kai and the hippies befriend the badgermoles. Garm and Maya, who were thoroughly done with this whole lovers cave adventure, used their bending and Ultras help to brute-force their way out (the badgermoles fix the cave later).
They get to Omashu, but it’s been taken over by the Fire Nation and the earthbender they were there to find was taken captive by the Fire Nation and sent to an earthbender prison. They have their first run-in with Harumi, Skylor, and Akita.
They have their little swamp adventure, they have some not-fun visions. Garm sees his dad (which scares the crap out of him), Maya sees her dead mother, Kai sees Zane, idk who Nya sees (mb Ray I guess? She misses him but he isn’t like, dead or anything so it might work?), or who Jay sees either (his birth parents I guess? That could be part of a character arc) and Lloyd gets a vision of his earthbending teacher. Y’all can probably guess who it’s gonna be, but I don’t wanna spoil it right now. And you know that one swampbender who bent the water in the vines to make a big plant monster? That’s Bolobo, the EM of Nature.
That Avatar Day adventure happens. Lloyd tries out that free lesson at the earthbending school, and they go to Earth Rumble 6. Kai gets way too invested in this underground fight club. Karloff is The Boulder, nuff said. And the reigning champion, whose stage name I haven’t decided on is Cole. Now, here’s the thing: I don’t want to make Cole blind just bc Toph was, but I do love the whole ‘listening to the earth’s vibrations to become a powerful earthbending master’ thing. So here’s Coles deal. His father is a rich and famous performer, and his mother was killed in an accident (possibly Fire Nation related, possibly not) that lead to Cole losing his legs (below the knees). He was just learning how to earthbend when it happened.
Something I’ve noticed in A:TLA is that earthbenders seem to use their legs and feet much more than other benders, with strong stances and stomping moves to connect to the earth. So to an earthbender losing their legs, losing their way to connect to the earth, would probably be one hell of an obstacle to work around. Cole’s father used his wealth to get Cole some nice prosthetics (Sparky Sparky Boom Man had two prosthetics, so I know they exist in the avatar world. Coles aren’t intimidating metal ones with some kind of mechanism to move like a real foot) but they don’t allow him to feel the earth like he needs to. So he painstakingly makes himself some new prosthetics. It looks like he’s just got bulky boots made out of stone, but Cole spent years working to be able to feel the earth’s vibrations through these prosthetics, to the point that he could be blindfolded and still be able to ‘see’ and earthbend fairly well. He can even get them to move like their his real limbs a little bit.
He can’t move with as much speed and agility, but he makes up for that by being a freaking powerhouse. But Cole can’t wear his earth prosthetics for super long periods of time bc he had no idea how to actually make them comfortable and make it so they don’t damage his stumps after long periods (after he joins Team Avatar Jay and Nya help him combine his professionally made prosthetics with his earthbending ones so he can wear them full time). Lou had become very protective of Cole after the accident, which is why Cole started participating in Earth Rumble 6.
Things go similarly to cannon, Cole shows his dad how powerful he is as an earthbender, and while Lou does ban Cole from going with Team Avatar at first, he actually does change his mind and let Cole go with them. He even sees them off. It’s a sweet moment.
So what have Wu and Morro been doing? Traveling, dealing with the occasional rude fellow traveler, and getting seperated in a storm turned flash flood. Team Avatar also get split up in this storm turned flash flood, Garm, Cole, and Jay get separated from everyone, including each other. This leads to Maya, Kai, Nya and Lloyd flying Ultra around in a small area to search for them, and makes it really easy for a tank occupied by three dangerous girls to track them for a good two days, leading to some mild sleep deprivation. (Dragons don’t shed fur, so that’s my fix for that bc I really like “The Chase” and wanted to include it)
Morro was looking for Wu, but finds Harumi and starts following her (he’s hoping that she might lead him to Wu, or that Wu might start following Harumi and they’ll run into each other, or smthn. And if he’s able to catch the Avatar there’s a chance that he and Wu will be forgiven by the Firelord. He’s not banking on it, but it might work). Jay and Cole find each other, and then run into Wu, who was looking for Morro. Maya and the kids split up to cover more ground and to try and to try and lose the tank and the girls. Lloyd goes one way, Kai and Nya go in another, and Maya takes Ultra to find a place for him to nap.
Harumi follows Lloyd’s trail, and Skylor and Akita go after Kai and Nya. Meanwhile, Cole and Jay have some tea and conversation with Wu. No idea what the conversation is about, but it gets cut short when Garm finds them and tells Jay and Cole to get away from Wu. There’s a bit of a stand-off, since Garm doesn’t trust Wu and hasn’t read his letter yet, and Wu is getting a little frustrated at his brothers stubbornness, (and is wondering how he keeps collecting children) even though he does understand why Garm would be cautious around him.
They work together to find a trail, have some awkward small talk, the brothers start to reconnect a little bit, meet up with Kai and Nya (who fought off Skylor and Akita), and they all go after Lloyd and Harumi. They find them in a three-way fight with Harumi, and Morro is going all out with his airbending for the first time in his life. Everyone gangs up on Harumi and corner her, and when she notices Garm is a bit distracted trying to subtly check on Lloyd, she tries to fire an attack at him-
-only for Wu to push him out of the way and take the hit. Wu goes down, hard, and everyone attacks Harumi, but she gets away. Morro blows Garm away away when he tries to get to Wu, calling Wu his father for the first time, and he kicks up a wind storm to keep them away. Maya shows up on Ultra, who got enough of a nap to fly for a few hours and let everyone get some much needed rest. Everyone that is, except Garm, who finally sits down to read his brothers letter...
