Bruce regrets sound proofing all his children’s rooms
There are some things parents don’t want to know or hear when it comes to their children and it seemed like a great idea at the time.
That being said, as he looked down at his tired youngest, bottle feeding a baby in a way that seems to be half muscle memory, with a look on his face that can only be encompassed by the sentence “oh shit.”
Bruce was suddenly wondering if he made the right call.

Adrift With You - A Frankie Morales Series
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: Heading away on a work re-location, Frankie embarks on a flight, but unbeknownst to him, his life is about to change forever. For starters, he will need to fight for it; harder than he's ever fought for anything else before.
Marooned on an isolated island in the middle of the ocean, still recovering from an addiction, his chances of survival are bleak; but he’s not alone on the island, and soon he’s running towards a different kind of life - a life with fellow survivor, Jude, fighting right beside him every step of the way.
And if they can both survive the island together, they can survive anything, right?

pas besoin d'un faux sourire
learning to parent with dad!logan sargeant
[1.0k]
note: haha enjoy more angst. dw this one’s not an ambiguous ending it def gets fluffy. dad!logan save me fr
Tumblr media
lottie’s crying.
she doesn’t cry very often, which only adds to your concern.
you’d run into the living room when you heard lottie’s soft cry of, “mummy…” and now you’re sat on the couch with her, whispering consolations into her hair.
as if on cue, the front door opens and logan steps in, finally home after a few days of doing sim work in the uk. after taking in the situation, he parks his suitcase in front of the shoe rack and rushes to your side, placing a hand on your shoulder in support. what a welcome, he must be thinking.
“hey, sweetheart, daddy’s home. daddy’s here,” he says to your daughter softly, “what’s wrong, my lottie?”
you crouch down and hold out your hand for lottie. you’re a bit surprised she can see through her tears when she takes it, but wrap her in a big hug regardless.
“what’s upset you, baby?”
she just buries her head in the crook of your neck and cries harder.
you can’t see anything broken or spilt around you, and lottie doesn’t look hurt. you gesture vaguely at logan to take her temperature because you can’t reach her face without shifting and risking her discomfort. he side steps a toy strewn on the floor and presses the back of his hand to her forehead. he comes back into your field of view and shakes his head.
you’ve never felt more inadequate than you do right now. you have no idea why lottie’s so upset, and logan, bless him, isn’t exactly prepared to help in this situation. he’s just gotten back and probably drove the thirty minutes from nice côte d’azur expecting… not this.
“logan,” he looks up, much resembling a deer in headlights, “could you get us a wet flannel please?”
you’re giving him an out to leave the room and get into the right headspace to do some ‘proper parenting’, he realises. he ducks out, but not before placing a hand over his heart and mouthing a thank you as he goes.
he’s back in a couple of minutes, having also taken the opportunity to change out of his plane clothes, and joins his girls on the carpet.
“come here, lottie-lou,” you allow her dad to hold onto her, and you shuffle closer to him as he washes her face with the cloth, wiping her tears away as he does so.
“can you tell daddy what’s wrong?” you ask, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
she shakes her head.
“that’s okay, baby,” logan chimes in, “we can just sit here for a bit, yeah?”
you rest your head down on his shoulder as you sit in silence, save lottie’s quiet sobs. it’s never been exceptionally easy being parents, nevertheless at your relatively young age. lottie’s usually such a gem, so the moments like this are hard to get through, for all of you.
she’s getting quieter as the two of you comfort her, but it doesn’t seem like there’ll be an end to the tears just yet. logan kisses your cheek; he doesn’t know quite what to do either, so you’ll just have to figure it out together.
another few minutes pass by, then you hear her take in a big breath and mumble, “i miss my home.”
ah, of course. you’d all moved from london to monaco about a month ago, on account of location convenience for logan’s job, and the educational opportunities for lottie. the tax benefits weren’t exactly a complaint either.
lottie hadn’t had any qualms about the move so far, so you’d both figured she was adjusting alright. she’d even been excited, but of course, the realisation that this wasn’t like a race weekend or a holiday where she would be sure to return to your humble london flat, was bound to kick in eventually.
little by little as she calms down, lottie tells you about how even though she knows a little bit of french from you, it’s not enough to really talk with the other kids, and that the teachers are nice but she doesn’t want to cause a fuss and keep bothering them every day.
“i’m sorry,” she whispers.
you shake your head and open your mouth to speak, but logan beats you to it.
“you don’t have to be sorry, baby. it’s okay if you feel bad sometimes.”
you press a kiss to her hands and add, “you just have big emotions, my love. just like me.”
she’s stopped crying now, and even smiles a bit when you bring up your similarity.
“if you want, lottie love, we can find you a tutor here who can help with your french, and you and i can always practise at home.”
she nods at your proposition, then wrinkles her nose and asks, “what about daddy?”
lottie, selfless as ever, is already thinking about how to include logan. you want to laugh just thinking about logan learning french and even more so, him speaking french with his american accent.
“we’ll rope him into learning with us too,” you grin at logan, “now come on, let’s give daddy a big hug, 'cause we’ve missed him very much while he’s been working.”
logan smiles at his little family and wraps his arms around both of you, happy that peace has been restored. he takes lottie’s face in his hands and covers her in kisses, making her giggle.
“you wanna help me unpack now, lottie-lou?”
she jumps up and runs toward logan’s suitcase at her dad’s suggestion, and starts wheeling it towards your bedroom. you and logan, still sat on the floor, watch her go. you give him a kiss.
“welcome home, handsome. sorry that’s what you came in to.”
he looks down at you and breathes out a laugh. instead of saying anything, he just holds his hand out for a high-five, which you humor. he lets go of you to push himself up, and helps you up after.
before he follows after your daughter, he slings an arm over your shoulder and states, “we’re such awesome parents.”
it’s your turn to laugh now, and you reward him with a couple of quick pecks on his lips. you push him to go to lottie before she starts calling for him, and give him a cheeky pat to the bum as he stumbles forward.
“je t’aime, baby.”
okay; now that that’s sorted, what to have for dinner?

WHINEY BREATHS LEFT Jake's lips as he stared down at you. Locked in his bedroom, party still lively in full swing the muffled music from downstairs was heard through the walls, you had found yourself kneeled in front of his bed in between his legs that had his pants pooled at his ankles.
"Fuck, fuck you take it so good baby," He mumbles out, a fistful of hair in his grasp as he began to move his hips along with the rhythm of your head that bobbed up and down along his cock. "Such a pretty little mouth,"
A hum of delight erupted from your throat at his praise, the vibration causing him to twitch while you pushed your head further down, doing your best to fit all of his length into your mouth. Jake was big, bigger than most and was found to be the whiniest mess when he became undone.
Your lack of a gag reflex and the sloppy head game you seemed to have mastered was more than enough to have him like puddy in your hands. The combination was overstimulating, the sounds of your drool that began to wet his thighs, the way your tongue swirled around his tip, sucking on it with your hand stroking his shaft at the same time.
Jake suddenly yanked you away from his dick, hissing at the change while you pouted, peering up at his with a curious expression. With his thumb wiping away the drool that dribbled down your chin in the process, he leaned down to place a kiss to your lips. "You're gonna make me fall in love with your head," He mumbles against your lips, the words causing a small giggle to leave your mouth before a sudden yelp replaced it.
Lifting you onto the bed with little resistance, your head gently hit the pillows while Jake began a trail of kisses. Starting from your waist, his fingers pushed up the thin material of your shirt as he moved up. Tugging at it, you obliged to his silent command and pull the shirt up over your head.
A small groan erupts from Jake's throat, eyes focused on the lacy black bra that was rather see through, your hardened nipples seen in the thin material as he rolls one between the pads of his thumb and index finger. A moan hitched in the back of your throat, eyes rolling back while the sloppy open mouthed kisses that Jake continued to trail over your body held a smirk of delight.
"Fuck, Jae, please," You whine, hips moving against his knee that was placed between your thighs in attempt to get some stimulation to your aching core that was begging for his attention.
"Please what?" Jake teases, watching as you began to grind yourself up against him, seeming so desperate for his touch that caused his tip to throb.
You sent him a pointed look, one that lasted only for a second before he dug his knee closer into you, a loud moan leaving your lips in surprise. "I need you," You beg, voice whiny and hands reaching up to tangle into his hair. "Please, please make me feel good,"
Your pleads were more than enough for him to pull away. Undressing your bottom half in one swift motion, Jake's fingers looped around the thin thong he had been getting teased with all night. His hand reached down to your clit, beginning to rub small circles along your pussy and feeling how wet you were through the soaked fabric.
"Such a good girl," He hums, smiling at the way your body reacted to his touch, a rather loud moan escaping from your lips as his head moved down between your thighs. Trailing a line of kisses along the soft skin, inching closer to your heated core that he still rubbed, he pulled the material to the side to place his last kiss directly on your swollen clit that was aching to be touched. A small laugh left his lips hearing your lewd mumbles, a fist full of his hair now wrapped between your fingers. "Shhh baby, you have to be quiet so no one hears,"
His tongue licked a long stripe up your center, a small hum leaving his throat getting a taste of your arousal. Fully stuffing his head between your thighs, Jake gives little room to adjust as he begins to lap up and down along your folds, his tongue dipping into your hole a few times causing a loud moan to leave your lips. He doesn't stop, his hands forcing your thighs to stay open with a tight grip no matter how much you squirmed beneath him.
His lower half pushed into the mattress in attempt to alleviate some tension of his own, becoming a mess along side you as it seemed giving you head was just as much for his own pleasure as yours. He didn't stop, he couldn't not with how you mewled airy moans throughout the air and pushed your hips against him on your own. The pleasant taste of your arousal an added bonus, entirely drunk on the taste and wanting more with the way you began to come undone with just his tongue alone.
"Jake, oh my god," Your body was attempting to squirm away though you wanted nothing more than for him to continue. "Jake please— fuck," Letting out a loud moan, you roll your eyes back upon feeling the built up tension in your stomach finally snap. Riding the high of your orgasm, Jake slowed down his pace but continued to lap up your clit to the point near overstimulation, your body falling limp at the intensity.
He lets out a small hum against you, placing one last soft peck to your core causing your legs to tense up. Jake smiles, sitting up and positioning himself in between your legs while your eyes were shut, still attempting to catch your breath before feeling his tip push itself between your folds.
"C’mon baby, we're not done yet,"
YOU WOKE UP with a stir. Feelingly overly warm, you attempt to push the covers off your body but tense up feeling the unfamiliar weight on your chest. Peeking an eye open, there was minimal light entering the room, presumably still early morning while the events from the night prior flood back at once. The house was silent compared to last night.
The quiet snores that left Jake's lips suddenly find your attention. With one of his arms secured around your waist, both of your legs were tangled up underneath the blanket. The minimal regret that filled you was easily subsided by the satisfaction that came of last night. You now understood why Jake's reputation was the way it was, never before had you hooked up with a guy that willingly and eagerly ensured you came first just with head, not mentioning the other two orgasms he managed to get out of you that left your body shaking and sure you reached a new ecstasy.
Yeah, you'd do it again in a heartbeat.
Glancing over Jake's sleeping figure, you nearly giggled at the sight of his slightly parted lips and how utterly innocent he looked opposed to last night. You could only hope this wouldn't put a damper on your dynamic, a small part of you hoped that it could be an occasional occurrence, maybe you should add a new rule to the contract.
With a small sigh, you begin to wiggle your way out of Jake's grasp, doing your best to not wake him but the sudden urge to pee was more of a priority. Jake let out a disgruntled groan upon feeling you break free from his use of you as a body pillow, your warmth disappearing as he blinked his eyes open to see you hovering on the edge of the bed.
"___?" He mumbles, rubbing the corner of his eye with a yawn. You turn your head. sending his a sheepish smile. "What're you doing?"
"Bathroom," You respond, him taking the reason with a small nod, already turning over to make himself comfortable but the stilled silence that filled the room indicated you hadn't moved.
"You alright?"
"I can't walk," You mumble, the confession one of embarrassment but you didn't want to have to explain yourself if you ended up falling to or from the bathroom across the hall.
Suddenly sitting up, the cheeky smile that fell upon Jake's lips was visible even in the dim room. "What'd you say?"
"Jake," You drawl out, rolling your eyes while he lets out a small laugh. "Come on, this is your fault so help me before I end up peeing in your bed,"
He got up this time, still giggling to himself as he made his way around the bed. "Sorry ___, didn't think you were that fragile," He teased, his hands used as support as you pulled yourself up.
"I'm not, you just bent me in half like a damn pretzel though so you know," You huff back, using his arms to lean your body weight against him. Slowly, Jake began to guide the two of you out of the room, momentarily peeking out in the hall to ensure it was clear considering you only wore his t-shirt and nothing underneath.
"You liked it," He hums back while you click your tongue, not having room to deny him. "Can you pee on your own or do I have to hold your hand for moral support too?"
"Always a charmer aren't you?" You say dryly, plastering a sarcastic smile on your features and instead leaning onto the bathroom counter for support. "Now go away, I don't think we'll ever be at the level where I'd pee in front of you," Shooing him away, Jake merely rolls his eyes as he turns.
"Yell when you need me to come help you up from the toilet,"
"SO... HOW LONG is this gonna go on?" Yunjin mutters, eyes trained on Jake's figure that walked back and forth throughout the kitchen. Attempting to stay quiet, she leans into your side while he's ears perk up at the mention of his name, though making no indication of noticing.
With a small shrug, you stare down at your computer, popping one of the freshly washed grapes into your mouth while attempting to read whatever material was assigned as homework for the day. "‘Til my birthday," Yunjin lets out a small tsk, turning back to her phone as she types at a furiously fast speed. Raising a brow, you nudge her side. "What?"
"Minjun texted me," She starts, trailing off slightly as you tense up at her words. "He's coming back to town and wanted to see how you were,"
"Why's he texting you asking about me?" You tut, rolling your eyes momentarily at the idea while she shakes her head.
"You guys didn't end well, he's nervous about reaching out,"
You let out a small hum, lifting your eyes as you trailed over Jake's figure, who had seemingly not heard a word in his midst of making ramyeon for your study date, though he listened carefully, making less noise with the pots as he moved around. Looking to Yunjin, you pat her hand. "I know he's your cousin, but don't talk to him on my behalf. It ended for a reason,"
A small pout fell upon her lips but nonetheless she nodded along. Taking his time to serve the two bowls full of hot soup, Jake spun around with a small smile. "Who's Minjun?"
Yunjin nearly spits out the water she had began to sip, eyes wide and loud coughs heaving from her chest. "W-what? Ha! N-no one what do you mean—"
"An ex," You roll your eyes, patting Yunjin's back as she's on the brink of falling out of her seat in her attempt to come up with an excuse and failing.
Jake hums, taking a second to ponder it over before leaning around you, peering at Yunjin from where he sat on your side. "Unfortunately for him, I don't like sharing, so tell him he's lost his chance," A wink was added to his words, seemingly playful but the shared look he sent your way didn't go unnoticed.
Yunjin nodded along right away, seemingly embarrassed due to being caught and excusing herself from the table. Running away to her room, it left the two of you in silence, one that you didn't particularly mind but felt Jake's eyes gazing over you from the side.
"Yes?"
"Wanna talk about it or is exs a forbidden topic?" He questions, head tilted in the slightest of ways and thoughts of any studying getting done completely discarded.
You shrug. "He was a TA in one of my classes my first semester here. Ended up being Yunjin's cousin so we started hanging out together through that and eventually started going out. Broke up a few months back because he didn't want to be in a relationship with me anymore, nothing crazy or dramatic like having a long term stalker wannabe girlfriend like you," Summing up the details, you spoke as if it were a fling, nothing too serious or worth mentioning.
Though in reality, it was the first time you felt something quite like it, your first daze into thinking you've finally understood all the Disney films and K-Dramas you've watched growing up. Only difference was it left you devastated without a Prince Charming, him seemingly growing tired of you without an explanation. Jay spent two solid weeks with you, stuck to your side like glue ensuring you made it out of bed each day and ate proper meals.
Jake knew that well enough, remembering the time his best friend disappeared without a word only to check in every few days with a brief explanation as to why. At the time he didn't necessarily care about the details, only remembering the gist of his heartbroken friend that needed a little extra attention in getting over it, oh well, and that your name was the one Jay kept repeating over and over again through it.
Deciding against pushing any further, Jake turned to his bowl of ramyeon in front of him, the steam subsiding from its initial boiling temperature into a comfortable one. "His loss," He speaks, the words so simple and nonchalant but it provided a small comfort in your thoughts. "Great for me though, and you 'cause now you get an even better and hotter boyfriend,"
A small laugh left your lips before you could stop it. Raising a brow at him as he took a bite of his food, you turned slightly, legs brushing against one another but neither did anything to move. "How would you know that?"
"I just do," Jake smiles, entirely certain of himself before pointing a finger in your direction. "And if not you still have to lie and call me pretty so it doesn't really matter now, does it?" You hum in response, not bothering to retort before he nudges your foot with his own. "Right?"
"We playing footsie like we're kids again?" Kicking him back, you snort seeing Jake shake his head, peering at you with expectation as he bats his eyes and leans in slightly. Your hand was pressed against his chest in attempt to push him away, his own grabbing hold of your wrist in the lightest of ways to move closer if possible. "I didn't realize you were such a baby,"
"I like praise," He shrugs, a small smirk playing at his lips as he said so. "Well?"
"Yes Jake, you're pretty," You huff, bottom lip tucked between your teeth in attempt to hold back your laugh but failing as his hands dance along your sides, digging into your stomach in attempt to tickle you. "N-no!"
"Say it like you mean it," He wages, his own laughs filling the air and mixing in with your own. There was a bright gleam in his eyes, a look of fondness watching as you leaned back too far in your seat, nearly falling out of the chair causing him to wrap his arms around your waist and holding you up, weak from the lack of proper air as you laughed.
"Y-you're so needy," You giggle, peering up at him through fluttering eyes while he hums back. Jake's fingers brushed away the few strands of hair that fell into your view, gently helping you upright while still supporting your weight.
"Better get used to it ‘cause I’m not going anywhere,"

TEASER FOR SEMESTER OF SEX
Tumblr media
pairing: high school* student jake x high school student fem. reader
genre: smut [mdni], angst, some fluff, enemies with benefits
[warnings: smut [mdni], arguing, crying, trash talking, reader's mother is mentioned, implied absence of father figure, rough sex, protected sex, oral, fingering, handjob, spanking, marking, enemies to lovers] *will add more warnings if needed
synopsis: having to work with your biggest academic rival was the last thing on earth that you would want, but unfortunately the universe had other plans: a semester-long partner project where you are paired up with jake sim, who you totally want to work with. while learning not to bicker with each other every second of the day, you end up learning a few different things about each other besides the burning hatred you both still (apparently) held for each other.
*this story will take place in the u.s. where 18 years old is the legal age and the age of a year 12 student
Tumblr media
how would most of your peers at school describe you? a bratty brainiac. for as long as anyone can remember, you've always been deemed an academic princess. most people had a problem with your attitude but learned to ignore it as time went on. but the person who couldn't seem to ignore your notorious brattiness? jake sim.
he was your biggest academic rival, and he hated seeing the smug look on your face every time class rankings were released. every month it was:
jake
y/n
jake
y/n
jake
y/n
a vicious cycle for the two of you to say the least.
everyone knew how much you two despised each other because of the fact that you never shied away from expressing your hatred toward each other, but when the two of you are paired up for a semester-long project, all hell was about to break loose... or so you both thought. because you had to collaborate in order to ace the project like you both wanted, you couldn't fight back and forth as much as you were both temped to; it would be a waste of precious time you could be putting into the project. now, you two had to figure out another way to deal with your hatred toward each other that didn't take up too much time, and you never could've guessed what your reality was going to be for the duration of the semester.
Tumblr media
a/n: hi gang, yes i'm working on another thing LOL, and yes i'm still working on everything else like MHBTD and skater boy jake. i hope that you guys look forward to everything that's coming out soon!

MA BOY
Tumblr media
PAIRING: Lee Heeseung x M!Reader
GENRE: Angst, Fluff
WARNINGS: height/size difference,
SUMMARY: An enemy turned his lover? Who would've known. Lee Heeseung a band leader and you a co-member of his band was a bickering storm, but, oh how fate loves to play with its strins.
"Writing another song, Y/N?" One of the members of your group who happened to be passing by at the living room saw you all slouched out near the coffee table as your tongue stuck out a little as you tried to concentrate on what you were doing. You did acknowledge his presence and heard his voice, answering his question with a nod. The male just sighs feeling a little bad that after all your effort, the band leader never approved of the songs you've written and persisted on only playing the ones he wrote for HIS band. You are just wondering why he was so against your compositions. Everyone else loved what you have, so how come your leader always reacts with a horrid look and disagrees to ever play one of your songs?
Your roommate slash bestfriend, Sim Jaeyun or simply Jake, exhales through his nose and sat himself down beside you as you wiggle a little more to the side so Jake could have a comfortable seating. "Y/N, you know Heeseung will never agree to play one of your songs any moment now, right? Save your effort for something else. I feel guilty that I can't do anything." Jake lets out, yet you didn't listen and continued on, strumming the guitar occassionally and experimenting on how the next verse would sound like to add a little flavor to the song. If you like how it turns out, you jot the notes down on your music sheet. "Y/N..." Jake calls for your attention, you taking a second to stop and sighed.
"I know, Jake. One more of the reasons why I decided to quit the band and decide to go solo or maybe even start a new band." You told Jake, the latter shocked to hear your revelation. It was just a little too sudden and was totally uncalled-for. "I know you want to stay with hyung and the others, so I don't want to give you a choice, but know I'm always open for a synthesizer." You told him, the other male smiling sadly and embraced you in a comforting manner.
"Whatever makes you happy, Y/N." Jake said, caressing the back of your head as you gave him a nod and smile, hugging him even tighter. "I wish you the best and I just know you'll do great." Jake stated before he breaks off and pats the top of your head making you giggle.
You nudge his shoulder playfully, chuckling. "Thanks, Jake. You're the best friend a person could ever ask for." You told him, the other male smiling up at you with his pearly white teeth looking similarly to a cute dog to which he is, metaphorically speaking. "I just wish I didn't have to do this, but it's for the best." You said in a bitter tone, which made Jake frown sadly, his brows furrowed.
"I just simply think that Heeseung is a little insecure with what you can do and he doesn't want his ego to be stepped on especially by someone who's younger than him." Jake told you to which you knitted your brows out in confusion, never actually seeing it in that same perspective. You just thought he really hated you. "I know it's not what you intend to do, but forgive Heeseung. He just... has a reputation to uphold. Let's just say he's feeling a lot of pressure." Jake laughed softly to explain his statement, you finally understanding the slightest bit as to why the older male seems to despise you.
You let out a sigh and looked at the papers that was placed on top of your usual work place for writing, biting the bottom of your lip. "Jake, I know what I have to do. I made up my mind. I'm not quitting the band and I might actually try to know whatever is bothering hyung. I won't be able to solve anything if I keep trying to run away from the problem." You told Jake, whose brows furrows in concern, wanting to make sure if you're certain of your decsion. He just want what's best for you. "Jake, don't you worry about a thing, because I got a strategy." You gave him a wink, Jake smiling awkwardly.
"Yey, Y/N. I hope it works." Jake whispers, you already planning out your marvelous idea in your head. Oh, it is going to be perfect. It's going to be amazing, jaw dropping and mouth drooling. You just have to find the right time when to initiate the first stage of your plan.
Tumblr media
"Hyung." You called out to the male who was having a talk with his friends outside of the band, turning his attention towards the voice as he looks for the owner of it only to see you a feet below him as he rolls his eyes and groans in frustration. He opened his mouth and opted to say something, but before the words could come out of his mouth you decided to cut him off. "You look like you haven't slept in days, hyungie. Aigoo, the dark bags under your eyes. Tsk, tsk. Have a coffee!" You said all in one go, ending with a cheery tone and handed out the coffee you had with you and gave him a smile.
You hear a small scoff come from Heeseung as you tilted your head to the side, confused. The taller man starts to walks up towards you, ever so slowly your hand retreated back towards you as you lifted your head up to face Heeseung. "You really think this will make me want to play any of your songs? I'm not that easy to get, dickwad." Heeseung spat out, his arms crossed.
You shook your head with a small pout on your lips as if to contradict with what he said. "I know it would seem like that, but you really need to know that I'm just genuinely trying to be your friend. We're both in the same band for crying out loud and we don't get along well." You told him, to which Heeseung just scoffed at before swatting the coffee off your hand which was thrown onto your uniform shirt, hissing at the burning sensation of the newly brewed hot coffee.
"Yeah, right." Heeseung smirks, leaving you agitated, but tried to keep a smile on before letting out a breathe of irritation and picked up the now empty cup of coffee and angrily threw the trash in the garbage.
Jake meets you halfway, who was watching the whole scene unfold. "I told you it was a bad idea. He just won't open up to you that really quick." Jake said, but you were determined to make your master plan work. You just know somehow, someday it will work. It's just got to work. You didn't listen to Jake and walked past him, whilst Jake just sighed out and followed closely behind. You are just that stubborn.
Later that time during recess, you were forced to only wear your blazer exposing some bits of skin on you, but you didn't mind. It was not like anyone would stare at you. "Jakey, listen. I know you're going to think this is crazy, but my gaydar is telling me, Heeseung-hyung is queensified." You told him, Jake a little confused with your choice of words, you sighing at his cluelessness. "I meant gay, Jake. I think Heeseung is gay." You deadpanned, Jake's lips forming an 'o' shape as he nodded his head finally understanding what you meant to say.
Jake clears his throat after taking a bite from his ham and cheese sandwich. "I don't feel like you've known about this, but Heeseung and I used to date." Hearing that out of the blue confession you were able to spit out the milk that you were trying to drink and snapped your head towards Jake who continued to munch on his food, unfazed. "Surprise, surprise." Jake awkwardly laughs.
You wiped your mouth dry and took your handkerchief from your pockets to wipe off some of the milk that dripped down your chest. "Jake, how come you've never told me about this before?" You asked the male who only shrugged his shoulders and sipped his strawberry yogurt away. "Guess the master plan has to stop and I actually have to befriend Heeseung-hyung." Jake raises a brow.
"You don't really have to anymore though." Jake suggested, but you shook your head in reply, Jake knowing you have something in mind that you don't want to happen.
"I have got to. If I stop he'll know himself that he was right and I hate it when he's right. I just simply hate it!" You yelled out, Jake laughing a little as he caressed your back to calm you down. You were suddenly like a lion trying to burst out of its cage. You looked over at Jake and gave him a determined look. "I won't let that happen. Hyung is going to be my friend. He will be." You told Jake who gave you a look that said 'suit yourself' and looks away while you thought of what to do next. To become Heeseung's friend.
The day went for a very long time and you just couldn't hurry more to band practice and meet Heeseung there who was always the first one to arrive at the band's designated room. You ran to the room as fast as you can and stood at the door with a halt and a smile, as usual, catching Heeseung playing a few songs on his guitar. "Hyung!" You called out, the voice clearly making Heeseung groan exactly knowing who owns that all too familiar annoying voice. He turns his head around, his anger evaporating for a second the moment he laid his eyes on you.
So suddenly, Heeseung was entranced by the way you were clothed. With only the blazer on top and a little bit of skin showing, it was as though you purposely had done it to seduce the taller male who just can't keep his eyes off your exposed ches—"Hyung!" You shouted at him for another time, snapping the male awake from his train of thoughts, immediately regretting that he was actually checking you out. "Before you say anything, I was not lying back there and really wanted to become your friend. You don't have to play any of my songs. I'll do what you want." You said to the taller male all the while you picked up your own guitar and plugged it to the amplifier. You did a little riff to warm up, Heeseung still in a daze. "Hyung, are you alright?"
"I, what? Huh? Shut up." He retorts yet you just shrugged and practiced on the guitar with a few of Heeseung's written song, every once in a while the older male stealing a glance, but shook his thoughts away and focused on something else to distract himself. "Fuck, what is wrong with you?" Heeseung whispered to himself, grabbing a towel to clean his guitar.
You catching his actions, you yelled out to him to stop before he could do any damage to his priced guitar. "Hyung, wait!" Heeseung faces you and knits his brows, feeling a little stressed already and he had just got to hear you squeak out a noise again. "That's what we use to polish the floor." You informed him, Heeseung looking down at what he thought was a towel, but saw a rug instead and thinks of an excuse.
"I was... about to just polish the floor, so yeah.. But, now I'm lazy." He said, to which you just raised a brow at since Heeseung never really like to clean and actually don't think about cleaning at all unless told to. "Just.. I don't want to hear a word from you." Heeseung told you, which you rolled your eyes to and scoffed.
The following days, you kind of noticed the changes at how Heeseung acted around you and it was not even the best one. He always acted weird and really clumsy when you were in his line of sight, like you are some kind of activator or a switch that turned something on Heeseung's bolts that he starts to act unlike him. Like the confidence and shit faded away type of Heeseung and you weren't so sure why this was happening, but Heeseung literally made it clear that he was being all shy and always left when you arrive, except during practices.
For example this morning's flag ceremony where you lined up along with the other students who are late, you unfortunately stood beside Heeseung and the moment he realized it was you he flinches away with a loud scream, shocking you at how sudden it was. Even the rest of the students were shocked to have heard Heeseung scream. "Hyung, are you alright? You always seem to be scared when I'm around." You asked the taller male who only ignored you and cleared his throat. "Hyung?" You tried to find the answer you needed, but your words fell on deaf ears.
For the first time, you admit you wished the dismissive and sassy Heeseung came back. It was starting to get more and more hard to become friends with Heeseung especially with this new attitude he was showing around you. Pretending like you are invisible and never even dares to look at you in the eyes anymore. He busies himself with something else when he talks to you and when you try to find his eyes, he would just look away and avoid you.
"Jake, don't you think hyung's been... off lately?" You questioned a little concerned and a little worried that Heeseung is purposely doing this so he can prove himself right in the end of the day, as though your advances to be his friend was just nothing. Jake looks at you and nodded his head, humming lightly. "I mean, I'm not certain if I'm the only who's able to notice it, but Heeseung-hyung's been very suspicious. I mean not in a bad way." You admitted, Jake giving you a chuckle as you looked at him feeling confused.
"Oh, Y/N. You are just that dense are you?" Jake smirked, putting down the cup of coffee he bought. Seeing you're cluelessness, he just sighs and takes one more sip from the cup and starts to make some sense with his words. "That Y/N is a Heeseung who's in love." Jake said, you scoffing.
"Wow, didn't know Heeseung had it in him to actually fall for anyone. With who anyways?" You threw him another question, Jake scoffing in disbelief. Was his clues not too obvious enough? You glanced over at Jake when he fell silent, the male giving you a knowing look, you totally confused why he had that look on his face. "What?" You took a chip from his snack and chewed on it, wiping your fingers clean and stood up. "Anyways, I'll chat you later. I have somewhere to be." You told Jake, the latter nodding his head as he gestured for you to go already. Jake smirks smugly, your brows knitting together as you shrugged it off as nothing and left.
On the way to your destination, you unfortunately bumped into a wall, putting a hand over your head since you weren't paying much attention to where you are walking, lifting your head up to see Heeseung. You gave him a smile, although catching the same poker expression on his face. "Hyu—"
"So, Jake, huh?" Heeseung cuts you off mid-sentence. Giving you no context about what he meant. He just went fully with his accusations. You raised him a brow out of confusion, then shook your head and tried to get away from him, but the taller male caught you by the wrist as you averted your gaze to him, your confused expression replaced with a small glare. "Answer me."
"How? I don't even know what you fucking mean. You just come out of the blue and ask me 'sO jAkE, hUh'. What the hell am I supposed to answer? Double it and pass it to the other? Are you a fucking math equation?" You sassed. Heeseung blushing a tad bit in embarrassment, but he kept it subtle and covered it with a clear of his throat, keeping his gaze away from you for a moment, so you don't notice the red tint on his cheeks.
He crosses his arms, viewing you through the side of his eyes. He quickly looks away the minute your eyes met, Heeseung barely forming the right words, on the brink of stumbling through his words if it wasn't for his curiosity. "Sorry, I meant... uh, are you and Jake dating?"
You grimaced at his question and agressively shook your head. "What?! God, no. He's my bestfriend and like a brother to me now. It feels wrong to be dating Jake." You fake gagged, Jake who heard everything from where he was scoffs in disbelief and starts cursing you in his head.
Hearing your answer removed a huge weight off Heeseung's shoulders, his heart swelling with relief, lowkey hiding his smile under an undertone voice, sounding cold and emotionless, like he usually was with you. He tries his best to hide his smile. "Then... can I tell you something?" Heeseung asked you, you tilting your head in question, wondering what exactly could he want from you. I mean, it wasn't every day that Heeseung actually talks to you. When he does, it would only be for him to tease and mock you, so this was a little different to you.
"What? Please, make it quick. I have somewhere to be." You told him, looking as though you are in a hurry, but Heeseung is so persistent to tell you whatever there is for him to tell you. The male actually shocked at himself when he found his hands unconciously on your shoulders to stop you from going anywhere, as if he didn't want you to go.
Heeseung purses his lips, slowly retracting his hands back down his sides and gave another clear of his throats, making you laugh softly at his actions. "I... I actually want to tell you through a song, Y/N." You seemed a little surprise at him hearing your name come out of his mouth. He'd usually call you names just to make fun of you, but you simply shrugged it off and sighed.
You looked at the clock display on your phone's lock screen and decided that there is still an ample amount of time to spare. You averted your attention back to Heeseung, then crossing your arms. "Is it important?" You asked him and Heeseung, surprisingly enough, nod his head vigorously as though excited about something.
"Yes! Too important that you don't want to miss out on it." Heeseung replied, smiling from ear to ear which you found a bit creepy considering the one time Heeseung would only smile at you is when he finds you at miserable state. Maybe, that is his plan and you're falling into his trap.
Not putting your guard down, you still nodded your head and sighed for the nth time. "Alright, fine." He was about to move when you immediately stopped him, pulling him by the wrist which made Heeseung instinctively look down at where your touch lingered before facing you. "You're not... going to try and kill me are you?" You asked him cautiously, Heeseung staring at you for a second or two before bursting out into fits of laughter.
"That's what you were worried about?" Heeseung teases you, holding onto his stomach, making you blush a little out of pure embarrassment.
You avoided his eyes, turning your head to the side trying to hide your reddening face. "Well, yeah. YOU are cruel to me after all." You answered him, Heeseung's laughter dying down slowly and smiles down at you, you looking up at him with furrowed brows.
"Now, you're really scaring me." You told him, Heeseung rolling his eyes before he drags you to the band's practice room, laughing softly all throughout the way. He didn't know what he is feeling as of the moment. It was making him feel all giddy inside and his heart was beating like crazy. He felt nervous and happy both at the same time, but damn, it was you. He didn't know just when it started, but he could no longer handle the ache in his heart whenever he sees you being all lovey dovey with Jake, when it should be him and him only.
"Trust me, Y/N. I won't even lay a finger on you." Heeseung said, which made you feel a sinking feeling in your stomach. Heeseung was only grinning happily, but in your perspective he was trying to fool you, his prey for the night.
The moment you two arrived at the band room, he makes you settle down on one of the chairs as he goes on preparing whatever he needs for whatever he wants with you. You raise him a brow, catching sight of Heeseung's shaking hands, the male cursing himself when he clumsily steps on something or drop anything, in short when he gets a little too careless. He checks in on you and you tilt your head to the side, your usual way when asking anyone if their okay or if they need any help. "I-I'm fine, Y/N. Just... stay where you are." He tells you whilst you nod your head in reply, Heeseung hanging the sling of his guitar on his shoulder and turns to look at you. "I hope you will like it, Y/N." He told you with a small smile, taking a deep breathe and started playing with the strings ever so gently with his fingers, strumming carefully.
He starts to sing you the song, smiling to himself with the image of the person he wanted to sing this to, remained in his head. It was like a dream. Looking at him like this, you thought he looked like a man who came straight out of a comic. He looked like a proper gentleman, not like the Heeseung that you always knew. It was a little different.
He continues to finish the song, but soon slowly stops, the melody that his guitar crated fading into the silence, before he looks at you as you clapped your hands, leaving Heeseung a little confused. Didn't you see the hint he was trying to see? He literally just described you THROUGH A SONG. "Hyung, we should totally play that song during the prom! I bet you everyone will like it!" You exclaimed, the edges of your lips reaching up to the heavens.
"What? No! I mean, thanks, but Y/N..." Heeseung sighs in disbelief. He knew about how you're a little too late to understand the signals, but he didn't know that you are this dense when he already made it pretty obvious that he wrote the song for you and YOU only. No one else. Was it that hard to understand?
Your brows knited together at the center, tilting your head to the side in question. "Isn't that what you wanted to hear from me?" You asked him.
"Y/N—"
"I mean, you always wanted to be the one with the most recognition." You cut him off before he could even say anything, already thinking of other things that Heeseung would probably want to hear right now. Other than that he wants his song to be the only song heard by many. He is a little selfish at that matter, but that's not the point.
"It's not—" Heeseung was about to speak yet another time, but you beat him to it for another time, the older male groaning at how annoying you are sounding right now, mainly since he didn't want to speak about it loud, since it's possible for his ego to be stepped on by you with just a quick no and rejection.
You hummed, paying no attention to Heeseung and started to pace back and forth. "The possibilities of this actually adding more to your fame is about a fifty to fifty percent. I—" You are abruptly stopped mid-sentence when Heeseung yells who could no longer keep it in, especially when he's hearing words that's making him feel too guilty.
"Y/N, I WROTE THAT SONG FOR YOU, OKAY?!" Heeseung let out, puffing his chest while you are left speechless. The taller male turns his back at you, covering the blush that was forming on his cheeks that made him look almost completely like a tomato.
You were dumbfounded. Heeseung? Wrote a song for you? Are you by any chance still dreaming or asleep? Cause if you were, you would very much want to wake up right at this moment. "Hyung..." You uttered out, but the word you wanted to tell him never seemed to leave ypur lips. Your tongue got tied and all you could muster to form was static sentences that didn't make any sense at all. Everything seemed overwhelming and just plain so unreal.
Heeseung breathes in deeply and shuts his eyes close. "Do I have to word it out for you? Fine, L/N Y/N. I like you." He told you without even a tad bit of hesitation as though he was ready with all this. You couldn't even say anything. It's just too sudden and unexpected, like a birthday surprise from a person you know talks shit about you behind your back.
Tumblr media
It had already been a few weeks since the confession and it's the only thing that cycled inside your head like a broken record. No matter how much you tried to get it out of your head, you are just forced to think about it even more. It felt like a curse! "AH!" You screamed out too loud that even the person who sat beside you gave out a loud scream as well. "God, sorry." You sighed, almost slamming your head on the table out of habit, weren't for Jake instinctively pushing your head back to stop you.
"What is it now, Y/N?" Jake asks you, moving his hand so he could flip the page of the book he is currently reading. He may have been too engross with what he is doing, but you are his top priority. He had to always look out for you. "Is it still about that confession?" Jake asked, you whining with nod and groaned, laying your head on his shoulder and held onto his arm.
Jake looks down at you with a chuckle and locks your head in place in his arm, feeling his bicep's muscle flex. "Seriously, Y/N? It's clear as day you share the same feelings." He told you, while your cheeks were being squished, your lips puckered up a little like a duck's beak, you sighing.
You knew that Jake was right. You did find the feelings mutual, but you just don't know how to face Heeseung right now after that incident. You acted on impulse and just left, when you shouldn't have had. Just thinking about it made your stomach feel a little funny. "I... I know." Jake raised a brow at your answer, the urge to just open your brain and see what's going on inside there.
"Then, what seems to be the problem?" Jake asked you, removing yourself from him and groaned.
"I don't even know! I'm just going crazy now." You let out in frustration, you yourself can't even understand yourself any longer. Sure, it made your heart flutter and things, so what seems to be the problem if not that?
Jake's attention went over towards the entrance and smirks, laughing softly. "Well, make a choice. We leave now or stay. Heeseung at three o'clock." You immediately snapped your head towards the direction and you do see Heeseung, but there is something different about him now.
He was glistening with beauty. He looks like an angel, your world starting to revolve slowly as your eyes focused only on Heeseung and watched as he smiles at you, your eyes furrowing at awe, unable to find the answer how the heavens would ever create such a fine man. His new dyed hair and his hair sleeked back, shiny with the hair gel he lways loved to use. You're seeing a complete different side of Heeseung and, God, you just fell even deeper. "HIDE ME, JAKE!" You yelled at Jake, pulling him by the collar and quickly found your way behind him, Heeseung who saw it all rolled his eyes.
"Y/N, I'm not blind and you can't just keep on hiding from me." Heeseung crossed his arms, eyeing you from behind Jake who just pursed his lips and moved back to reading his book before taking a sip of his iced coffee, snorting when he hears your answer almost choking on his drink.
You peeked from where you are and glared at Heseung who tried to find your eyes, but you only looked away. "Says you." You muttered, still loud enough for Heeseung to hear you.
"Goodness." The male sighs, massaging the bridge of his nose. Catching the stress on his eyes, you bit on your lower lip thinking whether to have a talk with Heeseung or not, considering that every time you tried, you're only engulfed in a deafening silence and Heeseung is left to wonder what you're supposed to tell him.
Gathering enough courage, you tapped on Jake's side, the Australian humming in reply telling you that he was listening to you. "...Jake, can you leave me with Heeseung for a moment? I'd like to speak with him in private." Jake closes his book and nods his jead, looking over at Heeseung and gave him a look. He just wanted to make sure you'll be in safe hands the moment he leaves.
Jake finally stands from his chair and starts making his way out of the place. You silently sat down in front of Heeseung who only stares at you in anticipation. You cleared your throat to calm your nerves a little; a headstart to be exact. You lift your head up to see the male eye to eye. "Heeseung, look... I don't have any problem with the confession and your feelings." You admitted, fiddling with your fingers due to how anxious you felt right now.
"...Then? Why are you trying to avoid me?" Heeseung questions, his head slightly towards the side.
"Cause! Everything was all too sudden and I embarrassed myself Infront of you by just literally kissing you that day!" You answered him, the taller male chuckling at your reply, then shaking his head.
He holds your hand into his, which caused you to jump a little in shock. "I liked that kiss though." Heeseung said, placing a kiss on top of your hand, not losing the eye contact you both held, your cheeks starting to turn red.
"Hyung!" You whisper-shouted, Heeseung laughing cutely at you, deciding to tease you even more. You pouted at him, finally peeling your eyes away from his and covered your tomato cheeks.
"I'm leaving." You pulled your hand away from Heeseung and grabbed your things, leaving the table and walked your way out, hearing a soft laugh from Heeseung who follows behind you closely.
The male's hand reached over your chin and slowly moves your head so you could face him. "What? I just said what I should have. Your lips are soft, I could kiss them all day." His words slithered out of his mouth smoothly, that it became unbearable for you anymore and started to regret trying to ever talk to him when he'd constantly just tease you.

I’m the anon who wanted to gobble this up and boy did you feed. You’re so right and you should say it, Niki was criminally underrated (I’ll admit I ignored her until techno worked with her more, and I’ve gone back to rectify that bc she’s badass). Also, the elemental aspect for those three is so perfect, and lends itself really well to their entire arcs. Even recognizing that Techno fights fast and loose (rather than like most others who stand their ground thanks to the new combat system, Technoblade used a sword and focused on getting behind people rather than proper axe combat), he also was someone who would get stubbornly stuck in his ways/set in stone (re: the whole bit between him and Tommy and the rebuilt L’Manberg, his steady and unwavering loyalty to Phil, keeping stubbornly to his principles of you get what you give, you could even argue the sword is an extension of that). Niki could go scorched earth with people who betrayed her, sometimes literally, it even fits with Jack and Niki’s little anti-Tommy arc, since Jack fostered and directed her fire until it almost burned her completely up. Wilbur was constantly shown to be drowning: his own mind, his responsibilities, etc. and then when he became Ghostbur, suddenly that water connection became a more literal burden, it did more than just drown, it could outright destroy him (in a way, just like it did when he was alive). Anyway, yes, very good, very good.
-✨ (doing this so if I send asks in the future you can tell it’s me if that’s okay 👉👈)
Sparkle Anon, I have been obsessing over this AU to the point where I have designed house plans for Aus for them all living together. I am not alright at all, no one let me on the sims or any other house design game.
Niki was one of the few streamers I knew going into the dsmp (fun fact, at first I thought Dream was a small streamer that Wilbur and Tommy had decided to help out by joining his server, you can imagine my surprise when I learnt otherwise).
I like assign elements to characters for fun, so I have thought about many dsmp characters as elements (Philza and Kristin are both Air, and Tommy is Fire, in case you're wondering). Especially when it comes to their relationships and how the characters interact with each other. I can literally go on and on about elemental symbolism about these characters. I could assign so much symbolism to these characters, don’t tempt me.
Honestly, the more I think about SBI+ the more fun it becomes. Especially where it concerns AUs. I have so many AU ideas I want to write, but I am trying not to make too many fics at one time (I am tempted to just start posting fanfic prompts to this account though but I don’t know how many people would actually be interested in it).
The angst potential. The fluff potential. The humor potential. Niki doesn't take away from the usual SBI dynamic, she only adds and I love it.

( i would too ..  /hj ) would want to see you up-close too. watching the music video isn’t enough so don’t even take the outfit off before he allows you too!!! nevertheless, you wanted this to be a surprise and you still find his reaction priceless.  park jongseong  박종성 : - outfits : here and here - speechless. awfully speechless. oh please, he’d be dumbfounded!!  he can’t find the right words to describe how he felt, literally looks at you with a “holy shit that was YOU!?” look whenever you’d have your own cutscenes. he loves everything about the concept, song, choreography and is indescribably proud of you! notoriously yours | jay park
Tumblr media
✰ summary: jay park is a rich kid. it’s safe to say he has everything every broke college student on his campus could dream of and more. but the one thing he doesn’t have, which money definitely can’t buy, is a girlfriend. and his friends won’t see of it. literally.
so what happens when his friends bet him to date someone for more than three months? what happens when jay decides that fake-dating someone would be easier than actual dating (because god forbid Jay–the campus’ notoriously known fuckboy–decides to commit to something once in his life)?
and what happens when that someone is you, his childhood best friend he hasn’t spoken to in years..who has absolutely no interest in being in his life anymore?
✰ pairing: jay park x y/n [ft. members of enha]

Jay Park is a rich kid.
Jay Park has enough to buy every textbook he needs for his courses without having to look up the free versions online. Jay Park has enough to bribe his professors to let him pass every class with a perfect 4.0 GPA (but because the boy has morals, he doesn't). Jay Park has enough to afford a car to drive to his furthest class from his dorm building instead of walk or bike like every other college student, meaning he also has enough to afford a parking spot on campus (those things aren't cheap!).
Jay Park walks around your school's campus like he owns the place (and considering the amount of money his family has donated to the school, he practically does), looking like he just walked out of your local coffee shop's newest fashion magazine. His blonde hair is never seen untouched, his attire usually consisting of an undoubtedly high-end all-black fit, accessorized with multiple earrings and rings that probably cost more than all the overpriced textbooks you had to rent out this semester. It's safe to say that everyone knows Jay Park.
Bottom line is, Jay Park has everything.
Well, his friends beg to differ.
In their eyes, Jay Park has everything but a simple factor in the equation of love (or whatever love is to the minds of a couple of 19 year olds): commitment.
So yes, it's safe to say that everyone knows Jay Park. Because everyone knows he's the campus' rich fuckboy. (What's a college fanfic campus without one anyways?)
Jay doesn't go unreminded of this by his friends, to the boy's annoyance.
Jay is aware of this on a Sunday afternoon, in his dorm building's first floor lounge, where he and his said friends are having a study session.
They're doing anything but studying.
In fact, no one has any books out or anything. Not a single laptop in site.
"You don't think it's the slightly bit concerning?" Jake's words are muffled as he continues munching on the fried chicken that he spent majority of this study session debating if he should have it delivered through UberEats or not.
"I really don't, no," Jay shrugs as he continues mindlessly scrolling through his Instagram feed. They're having the same argument conversation that they've revisited multiple times over the course of their friendship, one that Jay has been lectured on too many times for his own good. He thinks his friends could become his new parents if they really tried.
"Look at it this way, okay. You're about to graduate college in a couple of years, into the big world. Like the actual, adult world. And that means you'll have to settle down. Which you can't do when you. have. no. commitment!" Jake punctuates each word with a single clap of his hands, desperate to get his point across.
Jay simply rolls his eyes. He looks over to Sunghoon, who's minding his own business, not bothered by the same topic he's heard over and over again. His eyes tell Jay you're on your own, in response to his blonde-haired friend's look of despair.
Jay thinks that maybe he should get new friends. Yes, that's the only solution here.
"My love life," Jay reaches across the table for a drumstick from the greasy tub seated in Jake's lap until Jake swats his hand away, "is none of your business. Also, ouch."
"Uh, it kinda is. Because of you and your reputation around campus, it kinda affects us, your best friends. How do you think we look, hanging out with the guy who's known to ghost every girl in existence after one night with them? No offense to you," Jake deadpans to him. Jay mentally reconsiders the term best friends.
Tough love. Jay tells himself it's tough love.
"Yes, because every girl totally hates Jake Sim, the teacher assistant of a physics class who volunteers at the pet shelter every Sunday and brings their pet golden retriever to campus every two weeks," Jay rolls his eyes at his Australian friend.
Jake sighs. "Okay, then I'm coming from a place of worry for you."
Jay groans. "Again, none of your business!" This doesn't stop Jake. He comes from good intentions, really, but Jay wants nothing more than to stuff the kid's mouth with some of that chicken to shut him up.
"What are you gonna do if one day you meet someone you like, genuinely like, and you screw yourself over because you've never been in an actual relationship before? A real, committed one. Like one that lasts at least three months."
"You don't think I can last three months in a relationship?" Jay questions the boy currently taunting him.
"Honestly? No. What's the longest relationship you've been in?" Jake cocks an eyebrow at his friend across from him.
One month and two weeks. But Jay's smart enough to not say that out loud.
"I can so last over three months," Jay mutters more to himself than Jake.
Jake laughs at that, pausing to take another bite of the drumstick in his hand. "Jay, I am willing to actually bet you. Bet that you wouldn't be able to." He leans back on the couch, the ball now in Jay's court.
Jay freezes, looking up from his phone, narrowing his eyes at Jake.
"Forget it, Jake. He's not gonna agree even if you offered him money," Sunghoon finally perches from beside him. Well he's not wrong. It's not like Jay is exactly in need of more money, per say.
"What kind of bet are we talking here?"
Sunghoon's right. Jay doesn't need the money, but he does hate being wrong. Even if it's over something as stupid as this matter.
Caught off guard by the blonde's answer, Jake blinks blankly at him and takes a second to think.
"Hmm..what about...what about if you can date someone for at least three months, and I mean an actual, committed relationship, then I'll do all of your physics homework next semester."
Jay's eyes sparkle at that. If there's anything he despises more than commitment, it's physics.
"And if I win, you have to buy all of my textbooks," Jake sits back from the edge of his seat with a smirk lying on his face.
Jay pauses to think about it. I mean, what does he have to lose? A couple hundred dollars over college textbooks? No. Because he just simply won't lose.
And maybe he'll learn what it'll be like to actually be in a committed relationship for once. Maybe he'll finally learn what it's like to actually devote yourself to someone, open up to them. He shivers at the thought. Never mind. He'll warm up to it. Baby steps.
Nonetheless, what could go wrong? Even if he does lose, at least his money would be going somewhere productive––towards his friend's education. Jay was probably gonna use that money on something useless like a blanket that resembles a tortilla (a burrito blanket, he calls it)––something he doesn't necessarily need, but must have, he would argue.
"Fine. Whatever, okay. Deal," he grabs Jake's extended hand in front of him and shakes on it.
Jake's impressively smiling at the boy as Sunghoon lets out a sigh, in disbelief with the two guys he calls his best friends.
Jay concludes that this will be easier than his Introduction to Photography 101 course he took his freshman year. How hard is it to find someone to date the Jay Park? Surely, everyone will be lining up once Jay switches his FaceBook relationship status from "it's complicated" to "single".
Tumblr media
Turns out, it's not as easy as his class where all Jay had to do was take pictures of a pretty sunset, slap a VSCO filter on, and call it a day.
He comes to this realization on a Wednesday evening, as he's seated at one of the many study tables lined in the middle of the campus' library, staring down at his phone's dry iMessage app, with his laptop and blank sheets of scratch paper scrambled across the entire table, as an attempt to look half as studious as the other students studying in the facility.
Turns out, being known as the campus' fuckboy who ghosts every girl on campus isn't a good thing when it comes to wanting to find a real relationship.
He comes to this realization after failing to receive a single text back to the many ones he sent out throughout the first half of his day. The ghoster gets ghosted. Oh how the turn tables.
Jay groans dramatically as he tosses his phone on the hard surface of the table, earning himself a harsh shush from the librarian filing books in the aisle beside him.
He sheepishly smiles back as an apology, directing his attention back to his open laptop screen, where his untouched calculus homework stares back at him––his mind preoccupied with the looming threat of Jake's bet. Not that it was threatening in any way, per say, but Jay just hates losing. And from the looks of things, it's safe to say that Jay won't be celebrating any victories anytime soon.
Jay thinks he should just change his identity and just transfer to some boarding school in Switzerland. Yes, that's a much better solution than admitting defeat to Jake.
Jay sighs as he lies his head on the table, figuring he might as well just write the check for Jake's textbooks now. He wonders how he got here in the first place. Not how he got into the bet, and definitely not how he's sitting in the middle of the library, having yet to start his calculus homework due at 11:59PM tonight (he should really start that).
But no, he wonders how he gained the reputation as the campus' playboy. To be fair, his friends (mainly Jake), are constantly reminding him of his notorious habits. But how did they come a habit in the first place?
The idea of being in a relationship is nice, sure, but the commitment that comes with it? The idea of being dependent on someone? It's scary, vulnerable, and one that Jay can't picture for himself.
Maybe some people just aren't meant to be paired. Maybe some people, like Jay, like being independent and are meant to stay that way.
But Jay also likes affection. He likes the fleeting, warm feeling he gets every time he finds himself under someone's sheets. He likes the short-lived comfort he receives from someone else's touch, even though he knows it's going to cease to exist the second he steps out of those bedroom's doors. He just likes affection, simple as that.
That and he's a 19 year old teenage boy with needs, what did you expect?
And so what if he likes the idea of affection minus commitment? Is that so bad? Apparently it is, to people like his friends and the entirety of his school's campus, at least.
At this rate, he might as well pay someone to date him.
Wait. Jay lifts his head off the table's surface in realization.
He might as well pay someone to date him.
There's no harm in that, is there?
He wouldn't have to endure through an endless amount of dates to find someone he clicks with, then continue going on dates with said clicked person, all while trying to develop an actual, serious relationship.
He'll win the bet, get his physics homework done for an entire semester, and some lucky girl out there will be making profit for the small price of hanging out with Jay Park for three months.
And lucky for him, Jay knows the perfect candidate for this scheme.
Simple as that.
Just as long as said perfect candidate says yes.
And as long as Jake and Sunghoon don't find out. Or else Jay might really have to move to Switzerland after all.
Tumblr media
You love your friends, you do.
Hana and Heeseung have been there for you when others haven't––they were by your side when you knew no one entering high school, and they were still by your side when you were all graduating said high school. Needless to say, you're eternally grateful for friends like them.
But right now, in this moment––with you seated in the middle of the campus' library, trying to write your essay, as your two friends blabber on and on about the most recent gossip across from you––your two friends could be your villain origin story.
But again, you love your friends, you do. So you don't have the heart to tell them to leave. You've managed to naturally tune out most of the conversation, anyways, for this––your friends coming to hang out while you're trying to study––is no rare occurrence by any means.
"Oh yeah, Jay Park texted me last night."
You hate how your brain's filter suddenly turns off at Hana's words.
You hate how your ears catch the sudden mention of Jay Park's name.
You hate how the thought of Jay Park gets to even occupy a single brain cell of yours.
You hate how you even know who Jay Park is. Well, knew.
Past tense. Because up until eighth grade––when Jay decided to just suddenly pretend you didn't exist––he was attached to you like a koala to a eucalyptus tree.
And if you had asked past Y/N, ideally, Jay would've never left your side. Ideally, he would've never left you to fend for yourself when entering high school. Ideally, he would've stayed your best friend through out all four years of high school and ideally, you would've eventually told him how you really felt about him after growing up with him all your life. And maybe it would've lead to a completely different story. But for the sake of this fic, we don't live in an ideal world.
So yes, if it wasn't for his attendance at the very same university as you, you would've forgotten about the boy who brought you the painful memories of your childhood.
And since the universe clearly doesn't work in your favor, avoiding Jay Park's existence like he's the plague would have to suffice. And it works.
For the most part.
Until some people, bring him up uninvited into your conversation. Like now, for example.
"When was the last time you guys talked anyways?" Heeseung mindlessly asks as he reaches across the table to grab one of the many snacks you usually bring to your study sessions.
"Uh..like a few weeks ago. Give or take. Whenever you threw your house party. Can't say there was much talking involved however," she teasingly says with a giggle and wiggle of her brows.
Heeseung's rolling his eyes as you scoff and chuck a nearby crumpled piece of paper that was once one of your many essay drafts at her.
She bats it away right as it's about to hit her face as she laughs. "Doesn't matter anyways. He ghosted me the next morning, as he does with everyone else. Telling you this now," she extends a finger right at you, "stay away from Jay Park. That kid's just bad news."
You nod in response, mentally telling her she has nothing to worry about.
Been there, done that.
Tumblr media
College. Ah yes, the very concept of spending four years of your life imprisoned on a campus where you'll be tearing your hair out from stress and spending all your life's savings just for a laminated sheet of paper with a golden stamp at the end of it all. We live in a society.
Because of said college, and all the weight that comes along with it, you had adapted a strict daily schedule in order to not completely lose your mind. It's a simple schedule really, one of a typical college student who's just trying to get by everyday with as little mental breakdowns as possible.
Wake up, get ready, go to class, go to the library to do your homework, walk all the way across campus to get back to your dorm, shower, then sleep. Oh and eat, of course. And maybe if time permits, be an actual social being and socialize.
It's gotten you this far into the college life without dropping out so, you conclude, you must be doing something right.
Sometimes, if you're feeling nice to yourself, you'll tweak the schedule a bit to fit in some exceptions. Maybe squeeze in a little trip to the bubble tea shop that's on the other side of campus, or maybe get dinner at that one dining hall that you don't usually go to because of the unncessarily long lines (but because they serve ice cream, you go anyways). It doesn't matter what the exception is, you still plan it out to fit into your schedule somehow. Everything is planned out.
Sometimes, however, the universe disagrees with your schedule, to your demise. Such as today, for example.
Because what you didn't expect for today was for a particular blonde-haired boy who you haven't spoken to in almost six years (but who's counting?) to approach your table in the library––a table you were sure no one could find you at, as it was quietly tucked away in the back corner, right next to the Astrophysics shelves. Because who browses the Astrophysics aisle for fun? Actually, maybe Jake Sim would. Anyways.
You definitely didn't anticipate a visit from the boy you've been actively avoiding, so you definitely didn't expect the first words coming out of his mouth when he sees you for the first time in six years to be:
"Fake date me."
You blink up at him.
Yeah, definitely not expected.
But you only let it phase you for a split second, until you feel a slight annoyance beginning to bubble up deep inside of you.
"Wow, hello to you too Jay! It's been what––half a decade? Yeah I've been pretty good, thanks for asking!" The sarcasm is practically dripping off your tongue.
You don't know what runs through Jay's mind, but apparently it isn't common sense––or the ability to read the room. Because next thing you know, he's sliding the chair across from you out from underneath the table and making himself at home.
And he's smiling right at you.
Curse him and his smile.
But no, you're not giving into it.
Not yet, at least.
"What do you want?" You deadpan at him when he makes no sign of making the next move.
"A girlfriend," he deadpans right back at you, as if he was casually telling you what he wanted for dinner. As if you two were close-knit friends that could approach one another without any proper greeting. As if you two had kept your friendship all these years. As if you two even had a role in each other's lives.
"Can't help you there," you scoff, deciding to not even question his lack of manners on top of his uninvited presence.
"Aren't you gonna ask me why?"
"Well gee, seeing that the first few words you decided to say to my face for the first time in forever were a demand, a demand to date you no less, then....no," your monotone voice says as you keep your eyes focused on your laptop screen, not daring to look at the boy across from you.
In the Introduction to Sociology course you took your freshmen year, you had learned of one important term: interactional vandalism. Textbook definition being: "ignoring signals of disinterest in a conversation, leading it to an offense."
Your definition being: "are you oblivious or just plan dumb, read the room!"
This was interactional vandalism, alright. Whether Jay's truly oblivious or just trying to annoy you until your head explodes (it's really the former, but you're convinced it's the latter), he takes your signals of disinterest and tosses it right out of his head to continue the conversation.
"I'm stuck in this stupid bet with Jake--do you remember him? He bet me that I couldn't date someone for more than three months and I figured having someone fake date me would be easier than actually dating someone, right? That's where you come into the equation," he proposes as he leans back in his chair, as if he had just finished a sales pitch to a prospective customer looking to buy a car.
You couldn't believe this. You're 98% sure this has got to be a prank. You're mentally preparing for a camera crew to jump out from in-between the library's aisles any moment now and scream into your ears that you've just been punk'd!
The remaining 2% of you, however, wouldn't put it past the two boys to get themselves in such a situation. The last memory you had of Jay and his friends were pretty much their childish selves back in middle school. And by looking at the current scene unfolding in front of you...it's needless to say they haven't changed much.
"Again, can't help you there. Ask one of the many girlfriends I thought you had." Ouch.
"But Y/N, you've known me all your life--"
"Up until you dropped me a few years ago but sure, let's call it that."
"--and convincing other people is gonna make me look--"
"--desperate? Yeah."
"C'mon, Y/N. What do you have to lose anyways?"
"Uh..my dignity? Pride? Self-respect? Sorry Jay, not happening," you turn your attention back to your unwritten essay in front of you, mentally checking out of this conversation. This would be a good time for that camera crew to jump out now.
"Look, no one else is gonna do it, Y/N." Jay has always been stubborn, you suppose. But so are you.
"Yeah, because you've managed to push every being of the opposite gender away from you. You gave yourself this reputation in the first place," you give it to him straight. It's not like you had a relationship with him to uphold anyways––Jay himself broke that friendship years ago.
Jay hates that you're right.
You're always right. He remembers how he used to always go to you for advice and clarity on the world's biggest problems. Granted, the world's biggest problems to him at the time equated to what he should dress up as for the fifth grade Halloween party, but still. A tough decision, for the mind of a ten-year-old.
You abruptly stop typing and begin putting your laptop and textbooks away as you huff in frustration. There's no point in trying to get your work done now. The longer you stay arguing with Jay, the bigger your headache gets. The longer he continues to occupy any part of your brain, the bigger your headache gets.
Getting up from your seat, packed and ready to slam your head into your pillow, you turn to the blonde one last time.
"Look Jay. We went on our separate ways years ago. If you weren't so notoriously known around campus and my friends would stop talking about you, I would've long forgotten you. I'm sorry you're in this situation, really. If I were you, I'd just tell Jake I can't do it. Or don't, I can't tell you what to do. Just don't get some innocent girl involved in whatever stunt of yours this is."
Jay stares at you, mouth agape, as you find your way out of the library and through the main doors. By the time he comes back to his senses, he realizes how he looks plain stupid––standing in the middle of the library, the look on his face screaming befuddlement, to say the least. Jay quickly makes his way out of the building, in hopes of convincing you one last time.
Jay catches sight of your figure already half-way down the walkway that connects the library to the main quad of your school's campus. Geez, you walk fast.
Not fast enough to outrun Jay's legs, however. If Jay running after you through the middle of campus in order to convince you to fake date him doesn't show how desperate he is to win this bet, I don't know what will.
"Wait, Y/N!"
You groan to yourself before turning to face the boy who can't seem to take a hint and leave you alone. You stare at his out-of-breath state as he heaves up and down from the slight jog he had to endure to get to where you are. If you're humored by him chasing after you, you do a good job of hiding it.
He meets your unimpressed state before stating his final proposition: "I'll pay you. Five hundred dollars."
You nearly stop breathing.
Now this catches your attention––after all, you're but a broke college student who's just trying to survive. And preferably not by feeding yourself instant ramen cups every night.
And so, naturally, you begin rethinking about the opportunity presented in front of you. You narrow your eyes at the boy as you weigh your options.
The first problem being, it's Jay Park––the bane of your very existence. You spent the last few years of your life pretending he didn't exist...for good reason. Not only did he do you dirty when you were merely a couple of 13-year-olds, but you just didn't want to be involved with someone like him. Someone known for his nature, someone who left your own current best friend ghosted. And not that Hana herself would care, for she has called herself the "female Jay Park", but you're sure this would be breaking some rule in the girl code handbook. Plus, if you agree to this, you'd be betraying 13-year-old Y/N, the one who decided to never speak to nor think of Jay Park again––which by now you've failed, but you get the gist.
Second problem being, three months is a long time. Three months is practically the rest of this semester, and did you really want to spend the rest of the semester tied down to the label of being Jay Park's girlfriend? There would have to be some negative connotations that came along with that title, right? No offense to Jay, but being his first girlfriend since, what, high school could make you come off as..naive, for lack of a better term. As if the only person you could settle for was Jay Park. As if you barely had any standards for yourself. Again, no offense to Jay.
Needless to say, if your school's debate club had to argue on why you shouldn't be doing this, you're sure the negating side could win with these two reasons alone.
But before you're rejecting the boy currently standing in front of you one last time, you find yourself mentally listing rebuttals.
First of all, you'd be getting paid. And again, you're merely but a college student living the stereotypical broke college student life––burdened by the costs of tuition, textbooks, and midnight McDonalds runs for when you're out of aforementioned instant ramen cups. Five hundred dollars could provide you with more than enough chicken McNuggets to last you the semester, and maybe some more to treat yourself to an online shopping spree.
Second of all, it's not like you were going to do anything better with your next three months anyways. It's safe to say you were too busy being a diligent student to actually look for anyone to date, per say. And if anything, having a fake boyfriend might actually be helpful in your case. Your mom would be off your ass about how you're still single, for one. And two, your friends (though it's really just Heeseung) would stop trying to hook you up on blind dates with guys that you would choose Jay Park over any day (and that really says something).
Third of all, it's Jay Park. As much as you despise the kid, you still know him. He's not a complete stranger to you, no matter how much you try to deny it. It could be worse, it could be a complete rando asking you to date him. At least you two have some sort of history, which would take care of the typical small talk and getting to know each other bit of this equation. And truth be told, you'd be lying to yourself if you said you weren't a tad bit satisfied by the fact that Jay chose you, of all people, to pull off this stunt with him. You don't know if it's the nostalgia of your childhood memories rushing back to you, but it reminds you of the endless schemes you two used to plan behind your parents' backs all the time. Granted, your childhood schemes––such as the both of you faking sickness so you could skip school together––don't even fall close to being in a fake relationship with one another, but still. It's the thought that counts.
All of those reasons plus, Jay isn't the worst to look at. He may have a spoiled reputation, but at least he has his looks going for him, you'll give him that (you're still secretly wondering when and how did he get his glow up, but don't tell him that).
And so by the guidelines of a college student's logic that states the pros outweigh the cons, you come to the overarching conclusion that maybe, this won't be so awful after all.
"Five hundred?" You ask, just for clarification. Jay's immediately nodding at your words. You continue to ponder on your thoughts as he stares at you hopefully.
The silent atmosphere of your campus heightens the tension so much, you swear you're in one of those overdramatic pausing scenes that occur too many times in k-dramas.
You sigh, then nod.
"Okay," you're internally praying that you won't regret this decision. "I'm in."

The next time you see Jay is at 12:17PM on a Friday afternoon, as you're exiting the doors of the lecture building that's home to your awfully long Capitalism in the Western World class.
You're going down the steps of the building, mentally deciding where and what you're going to treat yourself to for lunch––as the three hour lecture you had just attended drained all the life and energy out of you––when you hear the slight call of your name.
Turning to the source, you're met with a waving Jay, leaning against the passenger's side of his car, parked in front of the lecture hall building you were currently leaving.
Great.
You walk over to where he's casually waiting––he's unaware of all the stares he's attracted from fellow students leaving the same lecture as you. Can you blame them? It's not everyday you see a sleek, black BMW that probably cost more than your tuition pull up in front of your Friday afternoon lecture. It's not everyday you see Jay Park waiting for anyone outside of his said sleek, black BMW that probably cost more than your tuition.
"Hi," you simply let out as you plant yourself in front of him, not sure whether or not to question him why are you here? Surely, he wasn't waiting for you?
"Hi," he smiles down at you. There's a beat of silence. "I was waiting for you."
Bingo.
"Oh. What are you, my chauffeur?" You raise an eyebrow, unimpressed.
"Maybe. I am your boyfriend, after all," he says into the air, loud and clear, as if he wanted people to hear. Well that is the point, you suppose.
But still, all you want to do is smack the smirk right off his face.
Before you have time to put your next question into words, he answers it for you.
"I'm taking you out for lunch," he declares as if you have nothing else planned for the day. Well, to be fair, you didn't have anything else planned for the day. Except for your usual library run. But you figure the library could wait.
"Oh, like on a date?" You raise your eyebrows teasingly at him as you get into the car, Jay holding the door wide open for you. "Is Jay Park treating me to lunch as a date?"
Jay fights the scowl (or is that a smile?) growing on his face as he bends down to meet your eye level from inside the car. "Don't flatter yourself, princess. We've got fake lives to live."
"Call me princess one more time and you won't have a real life to live," you flash him a sarcastic smile and slam the door in his face.
Jay meets his own shocked reflection on the passenger's side window.
Cute.

"When you said you were taking me out to lunch, I expected like...I don't know...the diner on campus. Not whatever this is," you mutter to Jay as the two of you are brought to your table by a waitress at an upscale sushi restaurant, one that is undoubtedly out of your usual budget, but for sure an upgrade from your dining hall's pizza you were planning to have. You should've figured as much, the drive here was a little more than out of the way from campus, and who are you kidding, it's Jay Park you're eating with.
You stare down at your current outfit, which consisted of a hoodie you've owned since your junior year of high school and leggings that you threw on without second thought this morning––because you didn't exactly wake up and decide I'm going to go to a fancy sushi bar for lunch today!
"Why are we here anyways?" You ask him when you're both settled in your seats and the waitress walks away after listing the chef's specials for the day.
"Oh, they have killer dragon rolls here, you have to try it," Jay tells you nonchalantly as his eyes rake the menu in front of him, blocking your view of him.
How dense can one be? Your hand snatches his menu as you stare into his unamused eyes.
"No, Jay. I mean, why are we here? It's not like anyone's around to see us put on a show anyways."
"Oh. I figured," Jay's quick to grab the menu back from out of your hands as he continues, "that we should sit down and establish how exactly we're going to deliver this performance. After all, you're stuck with me for the next three months."
Again, smacking the smirk currently resting on his face would satisfy you beyond relief. Just once.
"If I drop out halfway through, do I still get $250?" You tease, leaning back.
"Ha ha. Funny. No," he narrows his eyes at you from across the table. "It's all or nothing."
You dramatically huff to make a show just for his annoyance.
"Worth a try. But sure, let's solidify this. What's the game plan?" You sit up in your seat, leaning over the table as if the two of you were hosting a secret meeting.
"It's simple really," Jay mirrors your actions, face leaning in close to where yours is hovering over the table. "Just pretend to be deeply in love with me for three months, and try not to actually be charmed by my cunning looks."
If someone gave you five dollars for every time you've already rolled your eyes at him today, you wouldn't even need to be in this deal for the five hundred dollars.
"Wow, smooth. Can I just remind you you're the one paying a girl to be in a fake relationship with you because you're just not competent enough to find an actual girlfriend?" You lean back, arms crossing over your figure.
Jay, unfazed, laughs, tongue briefly hitting the inside of his cheek. "Touché."
Your eyes go back to the menu in front of you as a silence falls over the table. Because you're not a loaded trust fund baby who comes to fancy five-star sushi restaurants for lunch on a daily, you don't recognize half of the entree names on the menu. You spot the dragon roll Jay suggested, but seeing that a basic California roll is less expensive, your natural broke-college-student-instincts figure the California roll shall do.
"Okay, in all seriousness," Jay begins as he puts his menu down. "It's simple really. We'll just go on weekly dates and post cute pictures of each other once in a while and a little after three months, I'll just say it didn't work out. I'll give you the five hundo and boom, we move on with our lives."
It's clear Jay's put some thought into this. Safe to say he's put more effort planning this out than the amount of work he's been putting into his classes. Someone's got their priorities straight.
You're impressed to say the least––you figured Jay would just be the kind to go with the flow and wait for the situation to unfold on its own and maybe blow up into flames. But seeing as he was just as serious about winning this bet as you were with making five hundred dollars, your doubts about this entire situation were slowly withering away.
Don't get it wrong, though, you still despise him. To an extent, at least.
"And don't worry about the dates. I'll pay on your behalf, as the loving, doting boyfriend I am," Jay finishes with a wide, cheesy smile you can't help but return a growing smile back at.
"Well then, as the loving, doting girlfriend I am, I shall gift you coffee, breakfast, all that fun couple stuff, whenever you please. Or maybe unannounced, if I'm feeling nice," you figure you should pitch in as much if he's paying for all your dates. And deep down, you find the idea kinda cute. But don't tell anyone that.
"Wow, look at us. We should become Dispatch's couple of the year already!" Jay exclaims, earning himself a small giggle from you, which pleases him to say the least. He thinks that maybe when this is all over, he'll hopefully make a good friend (well, for the second time) out of it.
And you're thinking that maybe the next three months won't be as bad as you initially had thought.
As the two of you delve deep into a debate about who would be the better significant other to each other, the waitress comes over to take your orders.
And because you're laughing and Jay's brightly smiling at you from across the table, you order the dragon roll.
Tumblr media
The second time Jay takes you out––this time he gives you a heads up to get ready––it's at a, once again, high-class steakhouse.
The third time, you insist on the on-campus diner that's popular amongst the student population. Partially because you feel bad for the amount of money he's spent on you (even though he couldn't care less), but mostly because if you have to put on another fancy dress to just eat an overpriced meal that doesn't even fully satisfy your hunger, you might lose your mind.
And by this third time, Jake is aware of this newly blossomed relationship.
"Three dates! I didn't know you had it in you, going on three dates with the same girl!" Jake excitedly exclaims as he jumps into the empty spot on Jay's dorm bed and shoves his phone's screen into Jay's face.
The smaller screen displays Jay's most recent Instagram post: an image of you sitting behind your too-small-to-be-this-expensive-steak and smiling right into Jay's camera––a memory that brings a smile to his face:
~ ~ ~
"C'mon! We said Instagram posts would be a part of the deal! How else can we convince people we're dating?" A pout rests on Jay's face as he stares at you from across the table in the middle of the extravagantly decorated restaurant he picked out for your second date. You remember your eyes bulging out of their own sockets when you saw the "$$$$$" rating Yelp gave the place when you searched it up earlier.
"Okay, okay! One picture," you give in, already slightly annoyed that you were here instead of the comfort of your own bed, where you could be rewatching your favorite Netflix show for the third time. But because you made a deal and because you're desperate for money, you had to follow through––so here you were.
You flash an unconvincing smile to Jay's camera, which doesn't satisfy him, to say the least. "At least pretend you're somewhat enjoying this date," he frowns at you.
You sigh, until a thought crosses your mind and a smile grows on your face. "Only if you get me boba afterwards."
He narrows his eyes at you, but then meets your smile. "Sure, whatever you want. But only because I've been craving some mango milk tea lately."
"You're a fruit milk tea kind of guy? Sorry, but I might have to fake break-up with you," you tease as you take a sip of your overpriced drink to go with your overpriced meal.
Jay scoffs, feigning hurt by placing his hand over his heart. "Ouch. But before you break up with me, let me get this Instagram post in."
"Wow. Your priorities are so straight," you roll your eyes at him, eliciting a cheeky smile from him as he watches you through his held up phone screen.
"3,2,1."
"Hey, I wasn't ready! That was like mid-laugh!" You reach over the table to grab the phone, but not quick enough for him to put his phone back into his pants' pocket.
"Nope, nuh uh," he laughs as you quickly sit back down into your seat, not wanting to cause a scene in an establishment as proper as this one.
"It's fine. It's a good picture, you look cute," he casually lets out, unaware of the blush rising to the surface of your cheeks, thanks to the fact that you were suddenly interested in playing with the left-over food on your plate.
"Jay! Delete it, I'll let you take another one," you whine from your seat, imagining just how bad a candid picture of you could be.
"Ugh, fine. Ever so picky." He playfully rolls his eyes at you as he takes his phone out and opens the camera app as you prepare yourself.
"Okay, how's this?" Jay turns the phone screen to you after he takes a few snaps on his phone.
"I approve," you grin at him as he goes through the pictures himself, unaware of the smile growing on his face.
"Okay now delete the first one," you point your finger at him, narrowing your eyes at him.
"Okay, okay! Bossy," he laughs as he raises in hands in surrender.
When Jay gets home that night, he recovers the image from his Recently Deleted folder, telling himself it's for the sake of the memory.
Obviously.
~ ~ ~
"It's not that big of a deal," Jay mutters from his spot as his eyes go from the Instagram post to his Exile and Belonging in Modern Literature reading that's due tomorrow, bright yellow highlighter in hand. Typically, you'd find the reading buried deep at the bottom of his school backpack. But because Jay ran into you this morning and because he complained to you about the amount of work he's fallen behind on and because you had threatened him to do his work or else you're not going on another date––a fake date that is––with him, he figured he should at least get one reading done and annotated, despite his strong dislike for highlighters (they hurt his eyes, okay?)
What he doesn't know, however, is how your threat was completely full of bluff––but don't tell him that.
"It is so a big deal, for you at least!" Jake hops off the bed and lands on the wooden floors of Jay's dorm room so hard, Jay winces and sends a mental apology to the poor person who lives below him.
Jake suddenly gasps. "I have to meet her, Jay! As your best friend, it's practically mandatory that I meet her."
Jay opens his mouth to protest, but not before Jake interrupts him once again. "Oh! We can bring Sunghoon too, it'll be so fun! The best friends meet the girlfriend."
Jay can't think of anything worst. Jay imagines that bringing you to meet his best friends would just intimidate you out of dating him––fake dating him, that is. Obviously.
He stares at his friend in agony then back at the reading in front of him––the one Jake said he'd come over to help annotate, but the intention completely left Jake's head the second he heard about Jay's recent dating life.
"You don't have to meet her," Jay says pointedly. "Plus, you already know her."
Jake frowns at his friend's excuse. "Yeah, but that was in middle school! This is different."
Jay's hands shuffle through the reading's pages in front of him as he realizes there's no way the two of them are going to finish the assignment at this point. He supposes he'll have to save death by blindness from highlighters for another day and hope you still agree to go out with him.
Jake suddenly gasps in realization.
"Oh my gosh! Childhood best friends turned college sweethearts," Jake says so dreamily, he might as well plaster heart eyes on. Hopeless romantic, this one.
Before Jay can argue, the piercing sound of three loud knocks echo through the small room, followed with a:
"Jay, are you in? It's me!"
Jay stills at the sound of your sweet voice. He whips his head to Jake, who is also frozen in place.
But the widened-eye boy is quick to come to his senses––unfortunately quicker than Jay himself––because the next thing Jay knows, Jake's eyes are lighting up and he's running to the door, ignoring Jay's screaming whispers through this seething teeth that were somewhere along the lines of Jake––stop, I swear to god if you open that door I'm gonna fucking--
"Y/N!" Jake swings the door wide open, revealing an overly excited him and a frozen Jay half-way to the door, as if he was about to grab the very boy welcoming you in. It's as if we're living in a Sims game and the player clicked pause on this very moment.
Jake's eyes are wildly going back and forth between you and your supposed boyfriend, as if he was waiting for Jay to run over and smother you in hugs and kisses...or something couple-y like that. Jay wouldn't know.
"Uh––hi," you're awkwardly standing inside the room now, a relatively large paper brown bag resting in your palms as you look around for a surface to place it on. Jay makes his way to you without a second thought, quickly taking the bag out of your hold.
"You seemed stressed out earlier, so I figured I could bring you some food as a little pick me up. I didn't know what you liked, so I kinda just got a little of everything from the dining hall. Nothing fancy," you're rambling, but smiling so excitedly at him, Jay doesn't know what to say.
Instead, his mouth slightly drops open as he stares at you in awe, mostly because he's not used to being on the receiving end of such spontaneously generous actions––all while Jake's still excitedly looking back and forth between the two of you, as if he was expecting a marriage proposal to come next.
"Oh wow. Thank you. Really," Jay, still touched by your simple act of kindness, softly says as he places the bag on the limited amount of empty space on his desk surface––the rest of it is covered with his untouched textbooks and unfinished assignments. He wonders if you did this out of playing your role or just because you wanted to. He internally hopes it's the latter. "Seriously, you didn't have to do."
"Nah, don't worry. I wanted to," you shrug with such a genuine smile that Jay realizes he actually missed your smile.
Despite having seen you during your brief run-in this morning when you were fetching your morning coffee, Jay realizes he missed you. The two of you haven't been seeing each other recently because of your busy schedule and if Jay didn't realize it before, he's now sure he missed your company and presence around.
Weird.
"Well, you two have fun! Sunghoon needs me for something," Jake suddenly chirps from his place near the front door, halfway through with putting his shoes on already, breaking the comforting silence that fell between the two of you.
Jay frowns. "But you said you were free all da––"
"SUNGHOON IS CALLING BYE!" And before Jay can even register what's happening, Jake's out the door without another word.
"Er..sorry about him, he's...weird," Jay scratches the back of his neck as he returns to his spot on his bed, mentally setting a reminder to yell at Jake later for leaving the two of you alone. Jay doesn't know exactly why, but he's nervous at the fact that you're here in his room. It's not like you two are complete strangers––or whatever you guys were before––anymore. "Good job on your part, though. How'd you know Jake was here?"
"Oh uh, I didn't"," you let out an awkward laugh. "I just felt like doing it."
Heat rushes to Jay's cheeks and he's not sure 1) what this newfound feeling is and 2) how to respond, yet again.
Having expecting you to leave after dropping the food off, Jay's taken by surprise when you take your shoes off and come over to his bed to look at the pile of work he's spread out.
"Is this everything you have to do?" You question the stressed-out boy as you flip through the various assignments, readings, and essays he put off in the past week.
"More or less," he groans. This is no rare occurrence by any means––Jay being behind in his work––but this time, Jay realizes he may actually be in deep shit, considering he has no idea where to begin.
Right as Jay's expecting a scolding from you, he looks up to meet a look of sympathy on your face. "Well, I mean, I'm pretty much done with my day. I can try to help, I recognize some of these readings from last semester."
Jay thinks to himself that the universe has sent him an angel through the form of you.
"Really? Wow, you were't kidding when you said you'd be a good girlfriend," he sends you a surprised look.
"I'm just being nice, Jay. A concept I'm sure you're not familiar with," you remark back at him, causing his forming smile to grow into a laugh.
"I can too be nice! Need I remind you of who's paying you $500, covering all of our dates AND giving you rides to class everyday?" He remarks pointedly at you, a teasing look resting in his eyes as you're reminded of the first of many times he's come to pick you up before class:
~ ~ ~
You're late.
This never happens.
But then again, your life's been a series of unexpected occurrences lately. Such as the fact that you're currently known as Jay Park's girlfriend, for one.
You're scrambling out of bed once you take one look at your phone and realize shit, you're already late for class. Throwing on whatever articles of clothing your eyes land on first, you're already mentally groaning at the fact that you'll have to skip breakfast and run across your campus to get to said class.
Curse your professor for hosting her lecture at the furthest possible building away from your dorm. Curse the architect who decided to make your campus so large.
You're running down the steps outside of your dorm building's doors when you're abruptly stopped by a familiar sounding cough. You look up from trying to gather all your belongings together at once to meet the gaze of the source of the sound––Jay.
"Wow, you're a mess," he smirks as he gets up from the spot on his car he was leaning against to make his way over to you.
"Gee, thanks! Good morning to you too," you flash him a sarcastic smile before your default frown quickly makes it way back onto your face.
"Aren't you gonna ask me why I'm here?" He grins as he grabs hold of your backpack to sling it across his own back as the two of you walk towards his car.
"Why are you here, Jay?" you sigh, your sarcastic tone hard to miss.
"To give you a ride to class, of course!" He's beaming at you, as if he's a pre-pubescent teen who just won their first girlfriend a prize from the arcade's claw machine.
Oh. That explains the car, you figure. Deep down inside, you're relieved that you'll no longer be bursting through the lecture hall's doors as a sweaty mess––a result of having to run across campus to get to class.
Determined to not let your satisfaction completely show, you resort with a little smile directed towards Jay as he opens the passenger door for you.
The second your enter Jay's car, the strong scent of coffee hits you, and your attention is targeted at the two small cups of coffee sitting in the cupholders of the car.
"Breakfast?" Jay asks as he enters through the driver's side and reaches into the backseat to whip out a small pastry bag. A small, deliciously smelling, pastry bag.
Okay, well. You suppose you could drop the annoyed act now.
Your eyes widen with joy as you grab the bag from him and open it to reveal your favorite breakfast sandwich. He's been taking notes, you'll give him that point.
"Okay, you win. Thank you," you grace him with a soft smile before taking a bite into the glorious gift in your hands.
"Of course, I was just feeling nice," he grins at you as he starts his car. "But don't get used to it." His tone is serious, but his smile directed towards you says differently.
And the fact that he still showed up to drive you to class the next morning.
And the next.
~ ~ ~
"And need I remind you who has to date your dumb ass for the $500 in question?" Your eyes narrow at the boy who can't seem to get that damn smile off his face.
Jay sticks his tongue out at you, ending the conversation. Really Jay? What are you, five? Well, mentally––probably.
You're looking around his minuscule dorm room for a place to sit down, and Jay can't help but feel embarrassed now that you're here, in his messy single studio room that pretty much reflects how Jay treats every other responsibility of his oh so hard life: neglected.
"Uh...here, you can sit on my bed," Jay immediately offers as he moves to the side to make room for your presence––and it isn't much, considering the university only provided him a twin XL bed which is definitely not built for two grown college-aged kids.
If you told yourself a few weeks ago that you'd be shoulder to shoulder on a bed belonging to the guy you cringed at the very thought of, you wouldn't have believed yourself. You wouldn't have believed yourself if you said you were actually glad Jay let you stay instead of kicking you out after delivering the food. Huh.
Weird.
"You know, this kinda reminds me of when we were kids. I always carried us through those horrible multiplication tests in the fifth grade," you wink at him as you settle in the spot next to him, hands grabbing hold of the papers in his lap.
Jay let out a laugh, nudging your shoulder with his. "Hey! The twelve times table is hard, okay?"
You roll your eyes at him––a habit of yours he's noticed whenever the two of you are together, but more recently, he thinks it's been more out of fun than annoyance.
He wonders why.
Tumblr media
When Jay had first brought up the idea of bringing you as his date to his father's company dinner, you had expected a fairly fancy five-star restaurant with a formal dress code––for you've become accustomed to Jay's lifestyle. Turns out, your expectations can continue to be exceeded. Because what you had expected to be a simple dinner with a few other business men and women turned out to be an entire party, hosted in a hotel whose interior resembled something close to a castle (Or what you assume a castle looks like, as you've never personally been into a castle yourself, but this hotel is close enough).
Your eyes sparkle at the extravagant columns and diamond chandeliers hanging high above you, and Jay smiles at the expression on your face; like a little girl being brought to the amusement park for the first time ever.
"Wow, this is...wow," you mutter as you drink in the scene in front of you: people dressed in formal attire likewise to yours and Jay's, mingling and drinking what you imagine to be beverages that cost more than your entire life's worth.
Jay laughs from behind you, "Yeah the company goes a little...extra when it comes to these company dinners."
You scoff as you look up at him. "Oh really, you don't say?" You look around and you're suddenly aware of the many people surrounding the two of you and the attention you've acquired ever since entering the building.
"Jay, people are staring." You shuffle closer to him, your voice lowering down to a whisper.
"Well, it's not everyday the son of the company's CEO brings his girlfriend with him, so...looks like we'll be the talk of the party tonight. Smiles on," he winks at you, and you just know he's loving the attention the two of you are receiving right now.
"Jay Park? Is that you?" You hear a warm voice call out from behind the two of you.
The two of you turn around to meet the owner of the voice, a middle-aged woman dressed in an evening gown that matches the pattern of high-end brands you've been recognizing ever since arriving.
"Mrs. Lee! It's so nice seeing you again," Jay cheerily addresses the woman as the two of you bow in greeting.
You internally giggle at the thought of your Jay being so picture-perfect in the eyes of his father's co-workers.
"This is Y/N," he continues, his hand finding its way to your back, protectively resting it there as you go to introduce yourself. "My girlfriend."
You swear you feel goosebumps rise from where he's lightly touching you, and more so when he introduces you as his girlfriend.
You tell yourself it's just your nerves. Yes, that's it, you're just nervous. I mean, you're in a room filled with people who could easily pay off all your college loans with just a snap of their fingers, who wouldn't be nervous? Right? Right.
"Y/N! It's a pleasure to finally meet you, I've heard so much about you!" Mrs. Lee excitedly exclaims as you turn to Jay with a slightly confused look plastered on your face. He mirrors your expression as he shrugs, moving to stand behind you completely, bringing his hands to rest lowly at your hips.
His hands feel like feathers on the thin fabric of your evening gown, so light, so delicate, as if he's unsure if he's crossing a line. It leaves you wanting more, wanting to naturally lean against him and his warmth. You quick to shake the thought of your head as Mrs. Lee chirps up again.
"Jay's father is always talking about how you've been keeping Jay pleasantly busy nowadays! Good thing too, about time this poor boy settle down for someone as beautiful as you," the woman rambles on as you feel a blush creep up on your cheeks at the thought of Jay talking about you to his dad. If only they knew.
"We should probably go find our seats, I think the dinner is beginning soon," Jay says from behind you, saving the two of you from having to listen to Mrs. Lee's story of how she's known Jay ever since he was five years old and seeing him grow into this mature, loving, young man is so amazing. Oh look! I have baby pictures.
Yeah, he was more so saving himself from embarrassment.
The two of you bid your goodbyes before Jay gently uses the hand on your back to maneuver you through the crowd of socializing business moguls.
"She's not wrong, you know," you feel Jay dip his head so he's speaking near your ear, his warm breath tickling your earlobe, as the two of you make your way through the large foyer room.
"Hm?" You hum in question, turning your head up just enough to be able to make eye contact with him as he responds to your look of confusion.
"You look beautiful tonight," he says, eye contact not breaking once. You freeze in your steps.
You stare back at him in silence. Oh.
Your mind is panicking as it flips through your mental book of responses, unsure of what to say back. But because your mind is cloudy from staring at a put-together Jay in a dark navy suit to match your dress (mixed with the nervous butterflies in your stomach––have they always been there?), the only sound that's able to leave your lips is the small stutter of a:
"Huh?"
Wow Y/N, you had one job. A simple "thank you" could've sufficed! And you went with "Huh"?
You felt like a fifth grader who just learned from a friend of a friend of a friend that their crush likes them back.
"U-um. Mrs. Lee. What she said about you. You look good, really," somehow your nervousness made its way over to Jay now––his eyes flickering from yours to anywhere, anything, else in the room––the awkward tension growing tenfold each second.
Goddamnit Y/N, this is just Jay you're talking to, get a grip.
You're knocked back into reality when he slightly nudges your back to continue making your way to the main ball room, where the dinner is being held.
"Is that a compliment from the Jay Park?" Your smirk can't be seen by Jay, since he's still trailing behind you, but he can definitely hear it through your tone.
"Don't make me take it back," he chuckles, his words felt against your neck, leaving behind a tingly sensation you're not sure why you're feeling. You're glad he's behind you, so he isn't able to see the blush creeping onto your face for the second time tonight.
Jay gives a small nod to the people behind the check-in desk stationed at the entrance as the two of you waltz right into a large ball room lined with countless circular dining tables. So much for a small business dinner.
As the two of you approach one of the tables placed at the front of the room, you notice a familiar figure seated next to the seats reserved for you and Jay.
"Y/N!" Jake exclaims as he gets up from his seat to greet the both of you. "I'm so glad you made it, Jay was so excited to bring you tonight. Deadass would not stop talking about it."
Jay lets out a noise that falls somewhere between a cough and a goose being strangled, his widened eyes warning his talkative friend to just shut up. He's silently cursing the company for always seating his and Jake's family at the same table for these events.
"Aw, is that so? He's lucky he's cute or else I wouldn't have agreed," you grin, winking at your assumed boyfriend sitting next to you.
"Hey, YOU were the one excited to come! I recall a certain someone's face lighting up when I suggested we go shopping for tonight," Jay immediately retorts.
"Only because you were buying," you giggle, causing Jake to laugh as well.
"Damn, Jay. Tough," Jake jokingly adds as you laugh alongside him. The scowl sitting on Jay's face expresses the opposite of what he's feeling right now: warmth filling him up from the sound of your laughter and the image of you getting along so well with his best friend.
"I'm gonna get us some drinks, you two have fun making fun of me," Jay narrows his eyes at the two of you as he gets up from his seat. You bid him off with a smile before turning back to Jake.
"No but really though, this boy would not stop talking about you coming tonight. Then again, he doesn't really ever stop talking about you," Jake nonchalantly says, not knowing how much he was exposing his friend to you right now.
You raise an eyebrow up in response, "Oh really?"
"Seriously! I don't know what you did to him, Y/N, but this Jay I've been seeing recently is new. He complains a lot less about life nowadays, especially on the days he sees you," he leans back in his chair as his comment brings a smile to your face. Little does he know.
You stretch your neck up to find the boy in question and spot him right as he's returning to your shared table, two drinks in hand. You lock eyes with him from across the room and without a second thought, you're giving him a genuine smile that he's immediately returning.
Your heart beats faster at the view.
You wonder why.
Tumblr media
It's 3:07AM when you hear the first ding.
You're not 100% sure as of why you're awake at this hour on a Tuesday night––perhaps a combination of your restless thoughts and feelings not letting you sleep plus the typical stress that comes hand-in-hand with the life of a college student.
It's 3:09AM when you hear the second ding, and you brush it off, assuming it was just Heeseung spamming you with memes again––something he does often when he also can't sleep (you found this out the hard way).
It's still 3:09AM when you hear the third ding, and at 3:10AM , you finally reach over and decide to acknowledge the being who's bothering you at this godforsaken hour.
Jay [3:07AM]: Y/N
Jay [3:09AM]: hi
Jay [3:09AM]: r u awake rn
Y/N [3:10AM]: unfortunately so
Y/N [3:11AM]: why are you up
Jay [3:11AM]: come outside
Y/N [3:13AM: jay it's 3am
Jay [3:13AM]: ye and? don't tell me ur a college student with a curfew
Jay [3:14AM]: plus im alrdy waiting for u outside so u have no choice
Jay [3:15AM]: :)
You groan at your bright phone screen currently illuminating your dark dorm room.
You ponder the consequences you may have to suffer tomorrow if you stay up any later than you already have. But considering the fact that you're probably just going to stay awake lying in bed for god knows how long anyways, why not?
(And you would like to point out that this decision has nothing to do with the fact that you haven't seen Jay in a few days and that maybe a tiny, tiny, tiny, part of you may have missed his presence. Nothing.)
And since that logic is obviously valid (you really gotta work on justifying your life choices), you're suddenly grabbing a hoodie from your closet and hoping it'll be enough to keep you, who's merely in an old band t-shirt from high-school and pajama shorts, warm.
The breeze hits your skin the second you open the doors to your dorm's building, and you're met with the view of Jay's sleek, black BMW that probably costs more than your tuition. He waves at you from the driver's seat, motioning for you to get in.
"To what do I owe you the pleasure at this hour," you deadpan at him with a stone-cold voice as you enter through the passenger's side door, hoping your tone was enough to hide the fact that you're giddy at the fact he invited you out at 3AM in the morning. Like a high-school girl sneaking out of her house to meet up with her bad-boy boyfriend that her parents dislike.
The second you enter his car, you're instantly comforted by the warm air blasting through his vents and his playlist softly playing in the background. Jay's pajama pants and messy hair give you more than enough information to know that he probably just rolled out of his own bed as well. You don't know why, but your view: Jay in his oversized hoodie with his unkept hair in front of your dorm building at 3AM on a Tuesday night, gives you comfort in weird ways you can't explain even if you tried.
But it's obviously just your cloudy, 3AM mind not thinking straight. Obviously.
"When I can't sleep, I go on drives around campus. It helps clear my mind," he says, looking over at you to give you a quick smile before starting his car. "Plus, SnapMap said you were still awake, so...figured you'd wanna join."
"Oh so what, you're my stalker now? You're not driving to the woods to kill me now, are you?" You tease, an eyebrow brought up. Jay lets out a laugh from beside you as he begins to drive further into your campus.
"Guess you'll just have to wait and see," he throws you a wink before reverting his gaze back to the road, mindlessly driving to wherever the road decides to take him.
A comfortable silence falls in between the two of you as Jay continues to drive endless routes around your campus. You look over to the boy driving next to you and take in his features––you don't know what changed, but you no longer feel the same anger or annoyance bubbling within you when you're around him. You're not sure when this changed, but you figure it's just the effect of desensitization. After all, you've been spending so much time with him, you're bound to get used to it. Right?
"Why were you up?" Jay finally asks after a few minutes of just the two of you silently basking in each other's presences.
"Ah, you know. The usual. Endless thoughts running through my mind, stress from school, nothing new," you sign, giving him a soft smile followed with a shrug.
"Penny for your thoughts?"
You answer him with silence as you search your head for the answer.
"I don't know. This is kinda weird, isn't it?" You don't know why you get a sudden surge of confidence, but before you can stop yourself, you find yourself rambling on. "If you had told me a month ago that I'd be here driving around with you when it's nearly 4AM, I would've laughed in your face."
Jay doesn't know whether to laugh or scoff. "Is the idea of hanging out with me that unappealing to you?"
You give him a serious look back. "I mean, up until a month ago when you needed me for whatever this game is, you literally pretended I didn't exist."
Oh. Awkward.
You freeze at your own words, mentally screaming at yourself for letting the words leave your mouth. Why, why, why.
"Y/N..." Jay says after clearing his throat after a few seconds of silence.
"No it's fine, it was a joke," you awkwardly cough and direct your attention to anything else around you right now. The view of your campus' buildings zooming by. The clicking of Jay's blinker when he switches lanes. The quiet roaring of his car's engine. The nervous tapping of his fingers against the steering wheel.
The rest of the ride is excruciatingly silent as he exits the main road and into an empty parking lot of some administration building made out of glass that has too many floors for you to count.
You don't know why you feel your heart beating in your throat as Jay puts the car into park––why you feel uneasy. You slightly turn towards him in your seat, hoping to pick up any sign of well...anything from him.
You don't know why you feel a twinge of guilt––it's not like what you said was necessarily wrong. If you were being honest, you were slightly bothered by how the two of you seemed to silently agree not to mention your past all this time. You were always one to seek answers, to seek closure. You couldn't help but bring it up––Jay was your best friend during those years. For him to just wake up one day and pretend you were nothing to him hurt you, and you couldn't help but still wonder what in the world you did to initiate his actions.
"I'm sor–" You're interrupted with his timid voice, as if he was almost afraid to speak.
"I'm not good with people." He's nibbling on his bottom lip, fingers nervously picking at a spot on the steering wheel.
You're opening and closing your mouth, unsure how to respond. You're 100% positive you look like a fish right now. Good for you.
"I don't know why. Jake calls it commitment issues but in order to have commitment, people have to stay in my life. And people just...don't. They're all bound to leave at some point. So what's the point of putting in effort into relationships if they're just going to leave you at the end?"
You're stunned by his sudden confession, not having been prepared for such a heavy topic to arise between the two of you. Up until tonight, your interactions had always been light-hearted and easy––you guys got along well. You didn't know this is how he felt all along.
But you knew where he was coming from.
You knew what Jay had gone through as a child––his mother having left him and his dad when he was young. You remember when your parents had told you the news at the young age of 13, and you remember the pain and sorrow you felt for your then friend. All you wanted to do was go to him and comfort him, but he had already cut you out from his life by then.
"Or maybe I'm the problem. My dad barely acknowledges my existence because he thinks giving me an allowance is all the parenting I need, my friends probably only stick around because they feel bad for me, you wouldn't even be here if it weren't for the bet, and, fuck, I'm literally known as the campus' fuckboy," Jay continues, falling deeper and deeper into the hole he dug himself.
He hates this, he hates opening up and feeling vulnerable, so he doesn't know why he's doing it now. He doesn't know why he feels comfortable voicing out his fears and worries when he's around you. But he does know it's a new feeling––one he doesn't know how to deal with.
"Jay," you lace your voice with as much comfort as you can provide. None of this is his fault, you want to tell him. "I'm sorry."
"Why are you sorry? You didn't do anything," he says with a hint of bitterness and you can't tell if it's directed towards you or the topic at hand.
You're completely turned in your seat now to face him––despite the fact that he refuses to meet your gaze, afraid that looking at you is gonna bring out the most vulnerable in him. "You can talk to me. Talking about it makes it a lot easier. I'll always be here for you, as a friend."
Jay doesn't know what it is or why, but something in him snaps at the sound of a certain word falling out of your lips. Friend. Friend.
Friends don't make his heart beat nervously whenever he's around them. Friends don't keep him up at 3AM in the morning, pondering about his feelings for them. Friends don't provide him with this new, warm comfort he's become accustomed to whenever he's around you.
Deep down, Jay knows you didn't mean to add fuel to the fire. But because he's strong-headed, stubborn, and hates how vulnerable he feels next to you, he unleashes his emotions without thinking about the destruction coming along.
"It's none of your business, Y/N. Forget I said anything. You're just a toy for this stupid game and when it's all over we can go back to our own lives and forget this ever happened."
His sudden words cut deep, but they hurt him more than you. The second the words tumble out of his mouth, he's hit with the feeling of instant regret washing over him, and the lump forming in his throat restricts him from finding the right words to take them back.
The silence that falls between the two of you this time is different. It's a cold silence. A loud silence.
Jay feels his walls coming back up around him––the ones you managed to get through––and all he wants to do is apologize but he's terrified. Terrified of seeing your reaction, terrified of losing you again. For the second time.
You tell yourself he doesn't mean it. You tell yourself that he's just enduring more pain that one should ever receive.
But you also tell yourself that this wouldn't be the first time Jay leaves you in the dust.
You tell yourself that you're foolish for ever believing a friendship, or more, could come out of this act at the end. That you're so naive for feeling those stupid, stupid butterflies you've started to notice in your stomach whenever you see, or even think of, him.
"Okay," you begin with a firm tone. You're hurt, but you refuse to show it. You won't let him hurt you for a second time. Not again.
"Just...find me when you need me. As your fake girlfriend or just...me. I'm still here for you," is the last thing you say before un-clicking your seatbelt and leaving his car, beginning your walk back to your dorm hall.
Jay is unsure about many things in life. He's unsure about what he wants to do in the future, he's unsure of where he's going to settle in life, heck, he's unsure about what to have for lunch tomorrow. But he's sure about one thing.
That he's wearing his heart on his sleeve right now, and it's all because of you.
That you've become this new lifeline and he has to choose between holding onto you or drowning.
Tumblr media
When Jay wakes up the next morning, his first gut instinct is to get ready to pick you up for class. But today's different. Jay doesn't know where the two of you stand now, especially after last night.
Jay doesn't know how to deal with this combination of unknown emotions he's been feeling lately. They didn't come out of no where, by any means, he realizes. They've been slowly growing over the past month of seeing you so often––like a plant he's been watering overtime, not expecting it to bloom into a flower so suddenly––but he figured it was nothing more than just enjoying the company of a friend.
Until he realizes that the term friend just doesn't suite you anymore––not to him, at least. And that scares him. It scares him that you've made him genuinely smile more in this past month than he ever has in his 19 years of living. It scares him that when he's around you he can't comprehend his own thoughts, his feelings. It scares him that you make him vulnerable, that you've changed him. That you've managed to make the walls that he's spent so long building and polishing to crumble with a simple tap of your finger.
In a perfect world, Jay would have already told you all this––he would be unafraid of how you would react, unafraid of your rejection, unafraid of losing this growing relationship with you. But alas, we don't live in a perfect world. And so when Jay drives to class that day, he drives right past your dorm building.
"Where's Y/N?" is the first thing Jake questions when he enters Jay's car that morning, confused by your absence, having been used to you being in the front seat every morning when Jay goes to give Jake rides to class as well.
"I don't know," Jay mutters, unemotional eyes focused on the road in front of him, not interested in continuing a conversation that involves thinking about you.
Jake hesitates as curiosity gets the best of him. "Did you guys get into a fight or something?"
Jay's hands tighten around the steering wheel of his car. "Or something. Let's just leave it at that."
There are a few beats of silence before Jake speaks up again.
"Well, I guess this works out because I wanted to talk to you about something."
Jay continues to stare straight ahead of him, focusing on just trying to get by without mentally beating himself up at the simple thought of you.
The simple thought of you and your smile. Your witty remarks. Your stupid eye rolls. Your laughter. Your kindness. So much for not thinking about you.
"I'm calling it off," Jake's words catch Jay off guard.
"Huh? Calling what off?"
"The bet. I'm calling it off. I don't care about the textbook fees I'll have to pay next semester. Look, fight or not, you and Y/N are good for each other, everyone can see it. And I really don't want this to end up being one of those messed up teen TV shows where the girlfriend finds out the entire relationship was based off of a stupid game and then they break up and the boyfriend falls into eternal sadness and regret. And I don't wanna see you sad, dude. So yeah! Congrats," although he's admitting defeat, Jake's beaming widely, just content with the fact that his best friend has finally found happiness through the form of you. "You win."
But Jay feels like the opposite of a winner. Because even though his only intention coming into this was simply winning the bet, his life isn't as simple as it was a month ago. Because he discovered something much more valuable than some stupid textbook fees or five hundred dollars or getting his physics homework done for an entire semester.
Something he's scared he's already lost.
You.
⸺ ⸺ ⸺ ⸺ ⸺ ⸺ ⸺ ⸺ ⸺ ⸺ ⸺
The next time you see Jay is at the same time and place as when he first ever appeared to pick you up––at 12:17PM on a Friday afternoon, as you're exiting the doors of the lecture building home to your awfully long Capitalism in World History class. This time, however it's different.
Because this time, it's one month later, and Jay Park is no longer a forgotten side character in the story of your life. This time, you're frustrated because it's been three days since you've last heard from Jay. And because it's been three days since you've last heard from him, you can't focus on anything else, and because you can't focus on anything else, you're falling behind on every other aspect in your life. Jay's somehow managed to become the center of your life without even having to be present.
Well, up until now. Up until you go down the steps of your lecture hall's entrance and look up to be met with a figure leaning on a car you're far too familiar with. You freeze in your steps as you make eye contact with the boy you've been thinking about non-stop for the past month three days.
Your mind tells you to walk away, to just follow your flight instinct instead of fight, to just go back to your normal life. But here's the thing. Ever since Jay's made his way back to your life, it's been far from normal.
And if you're being honest, you had no interest in going back to your normal life. Normal's overrated anyways. You find your legs bringing yourself over to him, your heart leading the way.
"Hi," you simply say, planting yourself right in front of him.
"Hi."
"What are you doing here?" You already know the answer, but you want to hear him say it.
"Waiting for you," Jay doesn't hesitate in answering you. This time will be different, he tells himself.
"I can walk myself home, thanks," you state, but your actions tell differently, as you make no sign of moving from your spot in front of him.
Jay's mind contemplates telling you everything. About how he regrets that friendship-breaking decision he made that one fateful day in the eighth grade, about his true feelings, about how he first suspected these feelings when he was 11 years old and saw you in your fancy get-up for the sixth grade dance but put it off as a little crush, and about how the same feelings grew into something so, so much more in the present. But seeing that putting all these thoughts into words would involve more than one functioning brain cell (which is all he's convinced he has in the moment, for the view of you staring up at him, looking like that, has his brain short-circuiting), he settles with:
"He called it off. It's over. The bet."
"Oh."
Silence.
Okay, Jay. This is your chance. Say it.
"Is that it?" You lift an eyebrow, awaiting for more explanation. When it doesn't come, you slightly nod and start backing away. "I'll see you around then."
Is that it? Do the two of you just go back to your respective lives now? How can Jay do that, when he doesn't even recall what his life was like before you entered it––and especially when he has absolutely no interest in going back to that life?
Fuck it.
"Y/N!" He stands up straight, a newfound confidence taking over. This time will be different, he tells himself. Because now, he knows what he wants. For sure.
You turn towards him, to see him already making his way towards you, stopping in his steps when he finds himself close enough to you that he can't concentrate anymore.
"I'm sorry for ditching you in the eighth grade. I'm sorry for ignoring you since then. I'm sorry for dragging you into this stupid mess and for pushing you away and I'm sorry for calling you a toy. Because it's far from truth. I like you. A lot. And––and I'm scared. I'm scared of what this means for us, because I just keep messing things up and all I know is that I don't wanna wake up tomorrow and realize you're not in my life anymore and––"
"Woah, woah, Jay. Slow down," you look up at him, the corners of your lips threatening to curve up into a smile. "You're an idiot, you know."
Jay's never really confessed his feelings to anyone before, per say, so he doesn't really know what to expect. But he's watched enough Netflix rom-coms in this lifetime (which is still not that many) to know that hearing the words "you're an idiot" isn't what you're supposed to hear after pouring your heart and soul out. Surely not, right?
"I––I'm not sure how to respond to that," he quietly says, searching your eyes for a sign, for anything. You giggle at his sudden shyness as you grab both his arms and look at him right in the eyes.
"It's okay. I get it, if anything, I'm also scared. But you somehow got me wrapped around your stupid finger, and I hate it," you smirk at him, your hands slowly making their way up his arms to circle around his neck.
Jay's hands naturally fall at your waist as he lets out a breathe he didn't even know he was holding as he returns your smirk. "Well, I could say the same about you. And I also hate it, for your information."
"Hmm, is that so? I guess it cancels out then, right?" You smile at him as he's pulling you in so close, your head turns cloudy.
Jay grins at you, his eyes holding so much joy and endearment as they quickly flicker down to your lips before returning to your own eyes. "I guess this only means one thing then."
"Mm, and what's that?"
And before Jay can answer––and because your life's been anything but normal lately––you make the first move this time, moving your head up to close the small gap between the two of you.
His arms instinctively tighten around you as you capture his lips with your very own, and Jay swears he's about to lift off into space right now. He's on cloud nine, and he makes no plans to touch the ground ever again.
The kiss quickly becomes fervent, all the pent-up tension that the two of you had for one another finally finding its way out, all the words that were previously left unsaid finally expressing themselves. You don't even care if you're being judged by the conservative faculty members of your school right now, or by the looks of fellow students walking past the two of you.
You try your best to keep yourself from smiling as he continues to press his lips against yours, his hand moving to hold your chin, guiding your mouth with his.
Before you find yourself getting carried away, you step back to take a breath, resting your forehead against his chest as his hands rest against your back. He smiles at the sound of you giggling against him.
Jay takes a step back to take one look at you and realizes, in this moment, that change can be good. And he's willing to undergo this change. As long as it's with you.
⸺ ⸺ ⸺ ⸺ ⸺ ⸺ ⸺ ⸺ ⸺ ⸺ ⸺
The next morning, you bounce down the steps of your dorm building's entrance to meet the wide, bright smile of your ex-childhood-bestfriend-turned-fake-boyfriend-turned-real-boyfriend waiting for you in front of his car, small pastry bag in hand. You smile back at him.
Jay drives you to class that day.
And everyday after that.

Kenma:
You and Kenma have been in a long distance relationship for a while.
Both of you stream, Kenma doing it seriously for his job and you just playing it for fun,
Sometimes you stream together of course but because of your difference in audiences and games you don’t do it all the time
“Bye guys! Hope you enjoyed todays stream” You wave off to the camera and shut off your PC taking a few sips of water.
Kenma: Hey.. nice stream today Y/N are you going to watch mine?
Y/N: Of course I will
Kenma: Ok talk to you later
Y/N: okayy <3
Kenma is what inspired you to stream, he also taught you all the ins and outs of streaming making sure you were set and ready. Your gaming style was very relaxed and friendly as you obviously weren’t streaming as a career just for fun and to make friends with your online viewers. The games you played were usually: minecraft, COD, Sims 4, Roblox, Animal crossing and *Insert your favourite game here* the way I literally named all the games I play
You wait for Kenmas stream to start, kind of excited as you’ve always loved seeing your boyfriend in his ‘element’ when it comes to playing to games. As your boyfriends stream starts you see he’s already chosen what game he is playing today which is to your surprise Call of duty, since that was the game you were playing earlier.
As he gets into the stream you are entertained, as always since Kenma was being his usual self laughing at his own deadpan jokes and interacting with his viewers. He is currently waiting for his capture the flag game to start so as he waits he decides to read some comments in the chat.
You’re used to the usual ‘Kenma where is Y/N I miss your usual streams together’ or ‘kenma please RAIL me’ which always makes you laugh. You were also used to the common hate comments Kenma and You both got on your streams but you were definitely not ready for this..
@ Ihatewomanandiamadick : Hey Kenma did you see your girls stream today she is so dog shit at COD lmaoooo jhdfkjdrhdrr
“Well hello ihatewomenandiamadick” started Kenma “but yes I did see Y/N stream and obviously she is not the best at games and I would definitely NOT ask her to team with me for any serious gaming competitions ... but she’s fun to watch I guess” as he finished speaking about you his game loaded up so he focused his attention on that the words he just spoke going to the back of his mind as they end up at the forefront of yours.
You obviously knew you were no match for Kenma’s gaming expertise but you didn’t expect him to publicly agree with a hate comment let alone add more of his imput on you. Did he really think that about you? ‘She’s fun to watch I guess’ did he not even enjoy your streams that much?
You wanted to distract yourself, and you definitely couldn’t do that watching him so you close off of his stream and get in your bed deciding to watch your favourite show.
Waking up at 6pm after your sad nap, you see that Kenma has left some messages to you,
Kenma: hey did you watch my stream?
Kenma: do you want to facetime later and play some minecraft..?
Kenma: y/n r u ok??
Y/N: oh hey cnt play minecraft w you rn not really in the mood..
Kenma: oh ok..
Time passed since then a month to be exact and you basically dropped off of the face of the earth, you weren’t in the mood to do anything let alone game and stream, which was a constant reminder of your boyfriend (something you didn’t want at the time.)
You felt embarrassed over all the things he said about you and all the things you now think he thinks about you and the way you play. Maybe he thinks even worse things about you, beyond just how you game? What if he doesn’t even genuinely like you...or he has someone else...it does make sense, you do both live miles and miles away from eachother AND he’s a big streamer you see the amount of girls in his comments.
You shake your head to erase your protruding thoughts coming in your mind, but it doesn’t really help. You and Kenma haven’t spoken much over this month he tried to constantly reach out to you at first but you assume he got bored over your constant, repetitive dry texts. So you were almost content with you and Kenma not even being in a relationship anymore.
However on Kenma’s side, he was beyond worried about you. Since you haven’t been streaming or barely responded to his texts he thought something happened to you, but he didn’t want to be seen as ‘overstepping boundaries’ if there was nothing wrong at all with you and you simply were just ‘not in the mood.’
So here he is, in Kuroo’s apartment trying to get him to help him out on finding out what is wrong with you.
“So kenma can you remember what happened the day when Y/N went ‘ghost’“ asked Kuroo in a mock detective voice
“Y/N didn’t go ‘ghost’ Kuro, and take this seriously” said Kenma “I’m worried bout her”
“Okay fine, but for real what’s the last thing you remember before she started acting all weird.”
“Umm I think it was around a month ago I did my saturday stream and I think she was on it but she didn’t leave her usual nice comments throughout”
“Ohh that was the stream when you sai-” Kuroo said before pausing his words as the memory of what Kenma said about you on his stream came in his mind, as even Kuroo thought it was a tad bit harsh for Kenma to say all those things “I think I know why Y/N has been so distant kiddo”
“What why?” Asked Kenma
Kuroo pulls out his phone and brings up the clip off what Kenma said and Kenma’s face cringes ‘did he really say all those things about you’ he thinks.
“Shit.. I didn’t know I said all of that” he said quietly “how do I make it up to her?”
“There’s only one thing you can really do Kenma” said kuroo
You are woken up out of your sleep by a knock on the door. Getting out your bed like a zombie, you trudge to your front door only surprised by what you see. There in his 5′6 glory stood your ‘boyfriend’ Kenma with a controller and a kitten teddy in his hand. You were very tempted to shut the door in his face and get back to your dreamless sleep but you waited on him to speak.
“Hi Y/N” he said quietly “wanna play some minecraft...?”
“Why so you can ridicule me on how shit I am?” You ask bitterly ready to shut the door on him
“No! No not all” he said stopping you from shutting the door entering your place “Y/N i’m really sorry on what I said, I wasn’t thinking AT ALL... I love watching your streams and I think you’re great at playing games...I was just being a dick,”
You take a deep breath before tears pool in your eyes “what you said really hurt me kenma..” you say “ I know people say shitty things on the internet all the time... it’s the internet. But I wasn’t expecting you to agree with the hater and say even more shitty things on top of that.. I don’t think I want to even stream anymore”
Upon hearing that, Kenma’s mouth parts open with shock ‘you dont want to stream anymore’ were his comments that bad? Now he feel even worse as he should and is now more determined to make things right.
He impulsively drags your arm into your game room, catching your surprise ‘what is he up too?’ you think. He stops for a second seeing your usual pristine gaming set up, collected up with dust.
“What are you do-” you start
“Just wait!” He says, as he rushes away turning on all your stuff and logging onto his twitch account as he sees the views go up he starts to speak
“Hi guys, its me kodzuken and today I’m here on stream with my beautiful girlfriend and today I want to say..” he turns to you “Y/N im so sorry for the horrible things I said to you that day... I was just being a dick and I’m sorry I really am.”
You look at the chat and you see some confusion and some people recalling his words from last month. “It’s fine Kenma, I forgive you” you say giving him a hug”
“Okay Y/N, so what do you say... wanna beat my ass at bed wars?” He says with a smirk
“When have I ever loss?” you return his smirk
Of course you did beat his ass as bed wars for rounds on rounds never losing proving yourself to actually be a good gamer girl. You enjoyed your time with Kenma, forgetting what he said before about you and moving on.
Eventually, you guys moved in together and streamed together all the time and yes you still do play for fun but you’ve gotten way better at COD (some may say better then Kenma) but who is better didn’t matter to any of you, as long as you got to play together that’s all you both cared about.

Kuroo:
Kuroo and you have been together since you were in your first year of high school
You met as friends first when you got him to tutor you in chemistry ( a subject you still aren’t that good at.)
Now you have your upcoming entrance exams for university in a month so your school has you doing mock exams in preparation for them.
20%
You look down at your chemistry paper that your teacher just handed you. 20%. You’re surprised, very surprised since out of all your subjects (that you go 90+% on) you studied on the chemistry test the hardest ensuring Testurou, that you didn’t need his help at all. But I guess it turns out, you did.
This failing mock grade put a blunder on your day, you didn’t interact with anyone and didn’t want to see your boyfriend so you skipped your usual routine of meeting him on the rooftop and went to the library instead ‘might aswell start early on your studying’ you thought.
As you were going over your chemistry topics, you hear an ‘ahem’ next to you and you turn your head only to find your boyfriend and his friends next to you. Kuroo with his usual goofy smile on his face.
“Hey kitten where were you at lunch?” he asked
“Needed to go to the library, Chemistry is kicking my ass” you mumbled
“Oya” he said as he noticed your chemistry test laying under your textbook “20%, well damn Y/N I knew you were stupid, but I didn’t know you were that stupid” he laughed doing his stupid usual hyena-like laugh.
Ouch well that hurt. You slightly flinched at his words, “Really your name, you didn’t know the molecular formula for ethanol, that’s first year work” he said continuing to laugh “I’m pretty sure that’s one of the first things I tutored you on when we first met”
His overbearing laughter was not good for you, you were already having a bad day and yes you do know your not that good at chemistry but you didn’t need your chemistry-enthusiast boyfriend to make fun of you for failing. Kenma and Yaku stood there awkwardly obviously aware of how bad Kuroo is making you feel but they didn’t really know how to stop his friend in the moment.Whilst he’s still dying of laughter you decide to pack up your stuff and leave the library.
You managed to get your Chemistry tutor to let you retake your mock paper in a week so that means, extra hard studying with no distractions you definitely can’t fail again. Since studying on your own was definitely not a good option, and you couldn’t go to Kuroo (especially after he ridiculed you) you decided to ask the second smartest person you know to tutor you.
Y/N: Hey Yaku! Can I ask you a favour?
Yaku: Hi Y/N what do you need??
Y/N: I have my chemistry retake next week, and as you know from your loud-loud friend I failed my recent test so can you tutor me??
Y/N: Pleaseeee
Yaku: Ok Y/N why can’t you ask Kuroo you know that he’d be more than happy to help
Y/N: Yakuu pleasee just help me out
So there you was, nearly a week done with your study sessions with Yaku and you’re feeling way more confident than before.
“Y/N what is the functional group of a Carboxylic Acid” Yaku asked
“umm... COO?”
“Great! that’s correct Y/N” he praises i dont actually know if it’s correct or not
You then hear a knock at Yaku’s front door and hear his mum let the person in, Kuroo then enters Yaku’s bedroom with shock plastered on his face surprised to see you here.
“Y/N...hey?” he says confused “what are you doing here?”
“Oh Mori-chan is just helping me with chemistry for my retake tommorow” you say nochalantly internally smiling at the twinge in Kuroo’s face at the purposeful use of Yaku’s first name.
“So why didn’t you ask me to help you know I’m a chemistry whiz” he asks
“Maybe I’m too stupid to be taught under your tutelage” you mumble “since I seem to forget whatever you teach me, even when it’s 3 years ago... but ok”
“Y/N I-” he starts
“Oh save it Kuroo, I have studying to do” you say cutting him off
“But I-” he tries
“So Mori-chan COOH is the function group of ethyl ethonate right?” you ask ignoring your boyfriend who is now at a lost for words
“ummm yeah it is” says yaku who is clearly feeling heavily awkward at the tension in his bedroom.
Kuroo leaves and you and yaku finish off the studying for the night, you did feel a little bad for being a bit mean to Kuroo but it’s karma for him being a dick to you.
You wake up the next day ready for your exam which was first thing in the morning, before you hand in your phone you see a message from Kuroo,
Kuroo: I know you’re still mad at me, but I think you’re going to do so well on this test. You’re not stupid at all, you’re really smart and I love you < 3
Kuroo: Good luck Y/N
You don’t respond to the message but smile at the sincerity of it and thankful for the boost of confidence it gave you before you start your exam.
Finishing the exam with a smile, you were confident you did well as everything you and Yaku went over was on the paper and you’re almost certain you atleast got more than 75%. You have to wait an hour before your teacher can give you your results, so in the meantime you might aswell reconcile with Kuroo.
When you exit the classroom, standing there was Kuroo who seemed to have been waiting for you for the whole duration of the exam.
“So how was it?” Kuroo asked, apprenhensive as he assumed you would just ignore him like you did at Yaku’s house.
“It was fine, I think it went alright..” you say
“Kuroo”
“Y/N”
You say simultaneously, he pauses for a second to let you speak “I’m sorry I was being so stand offish when we were at Yaku’s I just wanted you to see I could do it on my own, and when you called me stupid I really took that to heart since you and I both know that Chemistry wasn’t ever my best subject”
“I’m sorry too, I didn’t mean to make you feel bad, and since it was only a practice test I didn’t think you’d take it to heart but I am sorry I know you aren’t stupid.”
Before you got to say anything else, your Chemistry teacher exited the room with your chemistry paper in hand. Kuroo grabbed your hand anticipating your nerves and gave it a gentle squeeze.
“Miss L/N” said your teacher “Well done on your chemistry test” he turned your test around to sure a perfect 100%. Both you and Kuroo gasped, you were elated to say the least you wanted to jump up and down in excitement but a PERFECT 100%.
“I’d also like to add that you have now got the top chemistry score in the school beating the previous title holder Kuroo Testurou” said your teacher, this made Kuroo open his mouth even wider in surprise nearly making you giggle at his response.
Your teacher took his leave, leaving you and Kuroo in the hallway “ I guess i’m the chemistry whizz now “ you say wiggling your eyebrows just as Kuroo did to you before at Yaku’s this made him chuckle as he came to put his arm around you.
“Y/N don’t get ahead of yourself now, you may have won this battle but I will win the war” he said smiling
In the final exam, you continue your winning streak also getting a near 100% and still beating Kuroo which didn’t matter to either of you, now you’re just like him cracking chemistry puns and jokes all the time which none of your friends appreciated but atleast Kuroo found them SODIUM funny.
AN: Please kill me for the last line of Kuroos, I didn’t really like Kuroo’s since it was a bit self indulgent with my hate for chemistry but what do you guys think?

To add on to the Matenro raising a child question, how would Ramuda get along with Yotsutsuji? After they all work through the coma thing. I love Jakuramu, but the only thing I can't quite wrap my head around is the fact that Ramuda would sort of? not really? be Yotstsuji's other "dad" LOL. Yotsutsuji is tech savy, so he could manage a website for Ramuda's fashion line or work on advertising. "You know there are more efficient ways to market than scouting random people on the street." - Y to R
This is not an answer to your question, but a couple years back, I downloaded a height mod for the Sims which, I was told, normally works quite well but makes for some funky interactions whenever two sims with a large height difference try to do anything romantic. Always a fan of funky interactions between two people with a large height difference trying to do anything romantic, I immediately tried testing it out by making single dad Dr. Jakurai with his son Yotsutsuji moving to the big city and getting a roommate (Ramuda) to help pay rent. Eventually, I tried forcing Jakurai and Ramuda together and had them go on a date to a place that had a pool in it which turned out to be a disaster as Jakurai, in complete defiance of how Jakurai normally acts in canon, ignored Ramuda to the point where he climbed into the pool, absolutely refused to get out no matter WHAT I did, and fucking died there. He was not having ANY of it. It was a romance free zone. What this meant, of course, was that Yotsutsuji was vindicated for being so worried about Ramuda the whole time. It also meant that Ramuda was now Yotsutsuji's dad.
Ramuda did not take to fatherhood immediately (man didn't even know how to cook), and Yotsutsuji had a lot of teenage angst to work out in terms of losing yet another parent. However, I am unfortunately incapable of letting my Sims be irresponsible (it makes me anxious if they're not being model citizens), so I forced Ramuda to step up to the plate and be a Good Parent, dammit. He learned how to make more than just grilled cheese sandwiches. He helped Yotsutsuji with his homework, despite never having gone to high school himself. He stopped letting Yotsutsuji stay up late playing BlicBlock and encouraged him to participate in local tournaments (Yotsutsuji pro gamer arc). In an effort to encourage more exercise after eating all those non-grilled cheese meals started catching up to Yotsutsuji, he took Yotsutsuji to the park and tried playing basketball with him (Yotsutsuji ball is life arc). He also encouraged Yotsutsuji to socialize more and taught him Ramuda's trademarked smooth moves, which led to Yotsutsuji getting a girlfriend (Yotsutsuji player arc) and practicing safe Fooling Around with her. When the game glitched out, leading to gnomes (?) permanently overrunning the apartment (??) and spawning copious amount of flower seeds (???) that blocked access to Yotsutsuji's bed, Ramuda was there to clear the packets away and enrage the gnomes, thus ending their love affair with spawning seeds for Yotsutsuji. I'm thinking about having him save up (read: me save up to buy the expansion pack) to send Yotsutsuji to university as well. Ramuda's little (bigger than Ramuda, though) boy is growing up...
Sometimes, a family is a pro gamer boy, his girlfriend, his clone dad, his ghost dad, and his four gnome dads, and that's okay.
Anyway, in actual answer to your question, I think it would probably be really awkward, and I am all here to grab the popcorn to watch. I personally skirt around this issue whenever I can when writing fics because it's pretty daunting to tackle.

CHAPTER TWO: INTOXICATING
previous masterlist next
word count: 1.9k
warnings: alcohol, partying, mentions of yeonjun for funzies, jake thinking with his dick even after what just happened so sort of questionable???
a/n: bare with me i’m trying to build the plot a little bit
YOU DIDN’T KNOW how you ended up back at the frat house. Truly, the party was in full swing and after dealing with the encounter that you did, it would've made the most sense to go home and cry it all out, maybe eat some ice cream for dinner and watch a few romcoms. But that wasn't the case due to Yunjin sending you a text saying how she wouldn't be coming home for the night, the date seemingly going well and you didn't have it in you to ruin her night by telling her of yours.
Thus, uncomfortable with being left alone, you opted to go the other route and surround yourself with as many people as possible. Though, the boys hadn't wandered far, keeping you in sight at all times and Jay particularly staying by your side no matter how many times you told him to still enjoy himself knowing how much of a social butterfly he was a majority of the time. Your work uniform was disregarded in his room, changed into a spare pair of flare jeans and lacy top to fit in with the party, courtesy of the few clubbing nights you went to with him and ended up spending the night, leaving your clothes in his dirty laundry after stealing large hoodies and sweats.
All bad things could be washed away with alcohol, or so they said. Thus, you were on your fourth round of shots in the last 30 minutes with a random group who made their way in the kitchen, never one to have been a lightweight but typically better at timing your drinking. Jay was growing particularly antsy by your actions, knowing you were acting out of the need to forget but he didn't want to let you drink irresponsibly.
"Why don't you slow down a bit, yeah teeny?" Jay asks, leaned close to your ear for you to hear over the loud blaring of music. Attempting to take away the can of Twisted Tea, something you typically hated by the taste but tonight didn't seem to care, while you pull it back with a pointed look.
"I'm fine," You emphasize, words clear and steady, the alcohol not hitting you yet much to your relief. Glancing around, you make eye contact with the umpteenth girl who had been shooting daggers your way for keeping Jay occupied thus far. "If you don't go away I'm gonna end up getting jumped tonight by your fangirls," You add with a small snort.
Jay followed your gaze, turning to the girl who's face morphed from a glare into a sickenly sweet smile as she waved at him with a bite of her lip, attempting to be seductive but he merely snorts at the gesture. "Pretty sure she got chlamydia from a dude in the drama department,"
You scrunched up your nose, finding the information one you didn't need to know. "At least you know better than to fuck anyone that offers," Taking a long sip of your drink once more, the slight burn in your throat becoming easier to bare. "Alright, I'm gonna go dance. You go do anything else,"Jay shakes his head almost immediately causing you to send him a bored look. "I'm fine dude, honest. You need to stop worrying so much. Nothing actually happened,"
"You're not in the right headspace," He protests but you let out a small snort.
"Jesus, dude, you act like an overprotective brother,"
"I am!" Jay defends while you shake your head.
"We're not even related!" You shoot back but his jaw drops in offense.
"We were born a week apart, our moms have been friends since high school. We're basically twins, I know you better than yourself," He lists off, deeply concerned by the way you were disregarding your twins in another life theory that your families always joked of since you were young.
"I'm definitely not your twin, you know why?" You start, standing up from the kitchen island with a small smirk playing at your lips. Your head began to feel fuzzy, the start of your buzz coming and the tension from earlier leaving you slowly but surely. "I'm hotter," You finish, a cocky look playing at your features while Jay rolls his eyes.
"Right, and which one of us gets laid?"
"Hey!" You hiss, waggling a finger in his direction. "I don't hook up by choice. Y'all are nasty,"
"And because you're a hermit who doesn't see the light of day," He snickers causing you to narrow your eyes at him.
Decidedly having enough of the banter, you merely spin on the heels of your feet. "Bye Jay!" You call over your shoulder making your way toward the living room which was lively and loud, body's meshed together and dancing to whatever song that was blaring through the speakers that sounded through the house.
Jay let out a sigh of defeat, pulling out his phone to do a headcount of where everyone was. Thankfully, Heeseung and Jake were in the general area you were, him asking them to keep an eye on you for the time being and getting a thumbs up in response.
Heeseung was on the dance floor, a random girl he never met before tonight swaying herself pressed up against his hips. He looked lively, a few more shots in and just wanting to mess around for the time being. You spotted the tall boy momentarily in the jumble of people who nodded over to you ensuring that you were okay, a nod you returned reassuring him and he took it as enough to go back to his business.
Meanwhile, Jake was on the sidelines, leaned up against the wall as he spotted you the moment you walked over. Far too caught up with the events from earlier, he found it hard to enjoy himself, feeling partially sorry for you but also having an unpleasant pit in his stomach, not necessarily angry but he couldn't exactly pinpoint it.
He continued to sip at the cup of punch Jungwon had conducted up, only drinking it due to how excited the younger boy was of his creation but it was entirely too strong for anyone to stomach more than one cup.
His eyes continued to glance over you, taking in each of your curves that was showed off by the tightness of your jeans. They hugged your ass in the right places, emphasizing the perky shape before beginning to flare out from the knee down. The lacy black top was cropped, showing a good portion of your stomach due to the mid rise of your pants, the deep v-plunge neckline providing more to the imagination in seeing your breast that were pushed up with your bra. The shiny gleam that came off of your naval piercing catching Jake by surprise, having to do a double take to ensure he was seeing things correctly.
You were attractive, that was obvious enough. Although slightly shameful, he couldn't help but rake his eyes over you, thoughts filling his head imagining what it would be like to have you under him, staring up with that daze-y doe eyed look that would make him bend to of any of your desires.
But there was a problem with that. He wasn't the only one with eyes, able to see you and the way you swayed your body to the music, your tiny waist and full thighs that he wanted to die between if so lucky. Jake took note of the few guys who's glances began to wander toward you, even ones who had already claimed their fuck buddies for the night and danced alongside them all while drooling at you who danced by yourself.
He watched as a familiar face make his way toward you. Choi Yeonjun, cool dude to be friends with, horrible guy to date. His reputation preceded him in more ways than one, notorious for stringing girls along week by week and the worst part was they knew of his doings. It was embarrassing how they fought to be his newest toy for the day, a sort of achievement to the girls he's strung along to say they've ticked hooking up with Yeonjun off their list.
Yeah, not happening. Jake didn't know if it was due to him still feeling protective due to you unintentionally calling him for help, or rather the more sinful thoughts that passed through his head moments ago and not wanting to sit and watch you to become a new trophy to a guy like Choi Yeonjun.
Picking himself up from where he was leaned back, Jake took a large swig of his now lukewarm concoction of liquors. Weaving his way through the crowd, he pushes his way to you just as Yeonjun stops in front of your view.
Wrapping an arm around your shoulders, Jake leans close to your ear. "Go along with it," He whispers, catching you by surprise as you were previously engrossed by the music in your own little world, unaware that two of the most lusted over guys at the party were having a silent debate over you at the moment.
Feeling the alcohol now coursing through your bloodstream, you obliged by Jake's words. Continuing on without a word of protest, though you did take the red solo cup from his hand and took a sip from it as you adapted to dancing with him now. Scrunching up your nose upon the drink hitting your tongue, you look at Jake with an incredulous look of disgust in his beverage choices causing him to laugh.
"Jungwon made it," He explains with a small shrug, leaning dangerously close to your face as his breath lightly fanned against your lips. Peering over your shoulder, a small smirk plays at his features seeing as Yeonjun had disappeared from your sight, decidedly giving up on any sort of chance he was attempting to have with you for the night.
"It sucks," You respond back and yet still take another sip, this time longer as you quickly swallow it without time for it to settle on your tongue. Jake's smile turns into one of amusement, watching as you handled the alcohol as if it were nothing before you placed the cup back in his hold. "You either dance with me or go away, your pissing contest with that dude is over now,"
Jake raised a brow. "Pissing contest?"
"You know, marking territory that's not yours," You shoot back, a bored look sent to him as he sheepishly shrugs. "I don't need you being protective like Jay. For one, we barely know each other and two, I'm not that much of an idiot to hook up with Choi Yeonjun no matter how badly I need to get laid. So you either shut up and dance with me or you go away,"
Already rather blunt as it was, the second you got alcohol in your system you tended to be more unfiltered than necessary. Jake finds amusement in your confession but your eyes seem so certain. Though the slight gleam in them as you looked up caused his stomach to do a flip, one that caused him to not think clearly.
Jake didn't respond, instead his arm slips down from your shoulders down to your waist, snaking around and encasing your body against his own. A small smile perks at your lips, sighing blissfully at his lack of commentary and rather allowing you to do as pleased.
"Good choice," You mumble out, breath fanning against his neck as your arms lazily drape from his neck, brining your bodies dangerously close to one another though neither of you minded.
After all, having a little fun with a hot guy never hurt anyone, right?

ahem... cassian taking nesta to that bookstore (fluff, don’t try making shit sad aight?)
Our First Non-Date
SURPRISE I GUESS!!
Nessian Archeron x Cassian
You can find the first part here.
A/N: this month has been really nice on me. I finally feel better, not crying every day for literally nothing and I wanna dedicate this to my fren Sim (@perseusannabeth) cause homegirl just finished the offcampus series and she's grieving. I know she is. So yep. Take some Nessian fluff
And Nina, I had to add some angsty parts, but they're not Irene Angst Level, okay?
Word count: 6,833
When Cassian had called her back the night after their outing with Amren and Varian, she'd stared at the phone for a full minute until it had stopped ringing and she could go back to reading the article on poisonous plants that Elain had sent her.
It hadn't even been five minutes before the words had been obscured from the call screen again and the name "Cassian Navarro" appeared.
When she had ignored the call for the second time as well, he had decided to change tactics.
Hi Nes, I was thinking about when you'd be free to go to the library. I need a couple of manuals because I'm building a little gazebo in Rhys and Feyre's garden and your sister is putting a lot of pressure on me, so I was wondering if you had the day off tomorrow.
Nesta was stunned at the amount of useless information he had given her, but managed to reply with a simple, Working tomorrow, day off on Wednesday. Sending you the address later.
She certainly hadn't anticipated how hard it would be to get up that day, her will to live must have been hiding somewhere under her bed and Nesta didn't know if it was directly related to their going out or just her stupid brain not being able to connect to real life.
The only other worst thing she'd been able to think of at that moment was having to explain to Cassian what was going on, so, pulled out of bed by the future embarrassment they'd feel in such a situation, she'd managed to dress, wash and style her hair so that she had a braid crowning her head.
She hadn't put too much effort into deciding what to wear, after all, it wasn't a date and Cassian had seen her many times before in far more outrageous and scruffy clothes than the comfortable black jeans and grey jumper she was wearing right now.
The silence had made her uncomfortable at first, only because Cassian seemed to be really stressed - about what, she certainly wouldn't ask - but after about ten minutes, he'd turned on the radio and popped a CD into the player and the melody of a Verve song had filled the cabin.
She'd started humming under her breath and he'd looked at her with a faint smile on his lips and his eyes sparkling. She hadn't mulled over that look too much, but she'd started eyeing him more closely and noticed the way he narrowed his eyes at every street sign and how he ran a hand over his face every time a strand of hair landed in front of his eyes.
When Cassian had to blow the hair out of his face for the millionth time, Nesta pulled a rubber band off her wrist and handed it to him abruptly.
Cassian looked surprised, but took it almost immediately, brushing her fingers. Nesta immediately withdrew her hand, feeling how warm and calloused his were.
"Thanks, my hair is killing me today," he finally spoke.
Nesta continued to look ahead, noticing that they were about to enter the highway. "Well, it wasn't very wise of you not to tie it up before you got in the car. I never drive with my hair down."
He nodded slowly, still with the band clutched between his fingers. And then, suddenly he let go of the steering wheel, "Hold that for me for a second." and Nesta's eyes went wide, launching herself at him to grab it and keep the car in their lane.
"Are you nuts?" she almost shrieked, keeping her gaze fixed on the road and feeling every nerve ending vibrate with anger.
"Relax." he said in a calm tone, shifting her hands and gently pushing her back into her seat one more time. "It wasn't even five seconds."
Nesta huffed out a laugh that lacked amusement, "You do something like that again without warning me first and I'm getting out of the car."
Cassian looked at her with a raised eyebrow, "A bit dramatic, but alright."
She sighed, shaking her head slightly and resting it on her hand propped against the window.
That awkward silence fell again and Nesta couldn't figure out what the problem was. She hadn't felt any kind of unease three days before, but after all, they'd been with friends and busy walking, not stuck in a car for two hours with no chance of walking away or splitting up.
And in that moment, the reality of their situation overwhelmed her.
She forced herself to steady her breathing, opening the window slightly so that more air could get in. She forced herself to think about all the things she would see today at the library and how beautiful and spectacular it had looked from mere pictures. She wasn't going to let her twisted mind stop her from having fun with someone who was desperately trying to be her friend.
She took a deep breath and a surprising calm enveloped her. She looked to her left to see if Cassian had noticed that temporal change in her behaviour, but it seemed to her that he was just as fidgety.
She was about to ask him if he was okay, because the knee that kept bouncing and the fingers opening and closing on the steering wheel were obvious nervous tics, when he did the eye thing again, this time leaning forward over the dashboard as well, and the sharp turn he took to the right caused her to shift in her seat so much that she bumped her shoulder against his.
Cassian grimaced, "I'm sorry," he murmured.
"What's wrong?" she asked, readjusting in her seat.
"Sorry?"
"What's the matter? With your eyes, I mean."
"Oh." he seemed surprised by the question, almost as if he hadn't realised she'd been observing him for the last twenty minutes. He cast her a curious glance immediately returning to the road. "I wear glasses when I drive, but I couldn't find them this morning and these contacts are the wrong shade and I can't see very well."
Nesta nodded thoughtfully, "Where do you normally keep them?"
"In the glove box. But I already checked," he replied, rolling his shoulders. Another nervous tic.
Nesta had to suppress a smile. There was no way he could be so worked up just because they were talking. She looked down at the phone in her hand to check the time, and a flash of light momentarily dazzled her. She blinked a couple of times and then scoffed, "Found them."
She reached a hand towards the hatch compartment and pulled out a pair of very plain black glasses, handing them to him. Cassian seemed to finally relax since she'd gotten into the car.
"Thank fuck." then he pulled into a lay-by and without turning off the car, slipped two fingers in his eye, removing one contact and then the other, leaving Nesta stunned. He put the glasses on his nose and flashed her a smile that went from ear to ear. And Nesta was stunned for other reasons.
She couldn't deny that Cassian was an attractive man. She wasn't stupid or blind, but the man next to her should have come with a warning sign or a bell.
Attention, hot stuff coming your way.
Nesta forgot the comment she had wanted to make about how antigenic and risky it had been to remove his contacts without first cleaning his hands and in such a dirty environment.
His hair tied back in a messy bun, with the hint of a beard he was letting grow, and now his glasses on, Cassian looked like a model on the cover of a newspaper about sexy carpenters. The short-sleeved black shirt he wore that pulled on his huge biceps every time he moved in the slightest was just one more point to add to the list of things that made him appealing.
"So," he began, getting back on the road, "what's your favourite colour?"
Nesta snorted, "Are you serious?"
Cassian seemed to blanch, "What?"
"Have you ever been out with a girl?" she asked him sarcastically, knowing full well what the answer would be.
He clenched his jaw so hard that a muscle popped out on his face, "Only on dates."
"And this isn't a date." pointed out Nesta, holding back a laugh at how tortured he sounded.
"It's not."
Nesta touched the tip of her nose, thoughtful, "Shouldn't this be easier for you then?"
Cassian released a breath through his nose, "I'm under a lot of pressure right now."
"Yeah?" she asked, looking away and smiling.
"Yeah, and stop looking like you're enjoying it." he retorted.
She feigned innocence, "Enjoying what?"
"My pain." he sheeted.
Nesta laughed, unable to contain herself any longer and when he glared at her, she covered her mouth with one hand, laughing harder. Only when he snapped his fingers against the steering wheel did she stop, laying a hand on his arm, just for a few seconds, "I'm so sorry." she wheezed, "I just don't understand. When you're hanging out with my sisters or Amren, or Mor, I don't know, you don't seem to be in this much discomfort."
Cassian sighed again and Nesta chuckled one last time, stopping when he smiled slightly. "I'm just trying not to make you uncomfortable. You accepted I take you on this non-date, and I'm doing my best not to flirt badly with you every chance I get." he confessed, nodding slowly, as if to convince himself that he was doing the right thing and not wasting their time.
Nesta was genuinely surprised at his answer and decided to offer him an olive branch.
"My favourite colour is blue."
"Nice." he smiled, showing a hint of a dimple, "Mine is red."
"It's too bright of a colour," she said lightheartedly.
Cassian chuckled, "I'm pretty sure it reflects my peppy personality."
Nesta nodded, "I read an article once about how a person's favourite colour says a lot about the person themselves," she said annoyed, "It sounded like one of those quizzes you find in gossip magazines, like it was written by a third grader. I hate those things, like horoscopes."
He grunted, "God, Mor's obsessed with horoscopes..."
The conversation continued without any more awkward silences for the remainder of the ride, and when Cassian turned onto a bumpy road, Nesta knew they were close. Of course, even if she hadn't looked at the directions from her house to the place, the myriad cars parked along the road would have been an indication.
They parked in the first vacant spot they could find and as soon as Nesta was out of the car, an icy gust of wind hit her face, making her shiver with cold. She looked over the bonnet at Cassian and found him staring at her with a half smile on his face. He'd left his glasses in the car and had let his hair down again, her hair band on his wrist, and he looked even prettier than before.
"Do you want my jacket?" he asked her, with a conflicted look on his face, as if he didn't want to. Nesta narrowed her brows and he hurried to add, "There's no hidden agenda to my offer, just a friend lending a jacket to another friend."
Nesta watched him for a moment, trying to really understand his intentions, but then remembered reading in one of the reviews that the library was heated inside and shook her head.
Cassian gave a small nod of assent and then pointed down the street, "Shall we?"
From where they had parked to the library it would have been about a ten minute walk and Nesta couldn't help but notice the way Cassian kept his distance between them as if he was afraid she would get scared and run away.
He was back to fidgeting nervously with his fingers and when he realised she was looking at him, he put them in his pockets, smiling tensely at her. He took a deep breath and then said, "So, what do you know about this library?"
Nesta looked ahead, hoping to catch a glimpse of the building, but the foliage of the trees was still too thick and they were still too far away for it to see anything. She brought her hands to her stomach, crossing her fingers, "I actually did a bit of research before I came. Did you know that the Peace Treaty between Prythian and Hybern of 1864 was signed here?" she asked in an excited voice.
Cassian smiled at her so naturally that she felt herself blush. He had an expression she couldn't decipher, but Nesta had never been good at cracking people in general, so she didn't venture to continue until he said, "Tell me more."
And Nesta launched into a detailed description of the events that had taken place inside the building, which only a hundred years before had become a bookstore. Only one wing of the building had been furnished in such a way as to become a real shop, the rest had been set up to be visited as a museum, one of the oldest libraries. She talked about the architecture and how it was obvious that the palace had been built long before it became an important meeting place for scholars and researchers.
"And in 1932 a fire destroyed the science wing, burning more than a hundred textbooks." Nesta sighed, thinking how devastating that loss had been. She lit up with happiness when she remembered what happened next. "But luckily, one of the most important literary clubs in the city got together and they managed to recover a small portion of the books. It took them years to rewrite every manual, but they got help from one of the local researchers, a certain Mr. Hawthorn, I can't remember the name or details of the research, only that he's mentioned often in the article I read."
When she paused to catch her breath, Nesta realised with immense horror what had just happened. Cassian had not spoken a word after asking her if she knew anything about the place and she had monopolised the conversation without even acknowledging him once. She felt herself flare up and knew in that moment that any hope they had of becoming real friends was gone.
Sometimes she would get lost in thought and ramble on about the things she was passionate about. Quite often people had stopped her, letting her know they weren't interested in the subject, but Cassian had never interrupted her and she was afraid to look at him, convinced she would only find boredom and disgust on his face.
That was why, when he spoke, she was struck dumb.
"I'm impressed." he breathed, chuckling immediately afterwards.
Nesta pushed herself to look at him and he stood admiring her with his mouth slightly open, as if he couldn't find the words. She felt her heart clench in her chest so tightly that she didn't know if she could survive the pain. Who knows how many times he'd tried to stop her and she'd gone on and on about windows and arches and treaties of peace.
But when she got a better look at him, stopping in front of him, Cassian looked... happy.
He let out a laugh, running a hand through his hair, and Nesta was distracted for a moment by the sway of his arms before she was brought violently back down to earth when he said, "You surprise me more and more every time, Nesta."
And the way he said her name - Ne-sta - made her toes curl.
"Why?" she managed to throw out in a weak voice.
Cassian laughed again, raising his eyebrows so high they ended under the hair on his forehead, locking his eyes to hers. "I have a degree in history and my final thesis happened to be on this very library." Nesta felt the ground open up beneath her feet and hoped it swallowed her alive. "I came out of university with top marks and various accolades for finishing my studies on time and you, dreadful creature that you are, have just taught me at least three new things about this place."
His gaze was so intense that Nesta had to lower her head to hide the satisfied and surprised smirk that popped up on her lips.
"You're amazing." huffed Cassian, "Perfect in every way."
She shrugged.
"Although," he clicked his tongue against his palate, "You made a mistake."
Nesta looked up at him, frowning, "Oh, yeah?"
Cassian nodded, smirking fiercely, "Why don't you turn around and admire the palace, and once we're inside, I'll explain what it is?"
She must have been so lost in her chatter that she hadn't noticed that they had arrived in the large entrance forecourt, because when she turned, her back to Cassian, the building stood among the forest trees, as imposing and splendid as ever. The photos had not done it justice in the slightest and Nesta was left speechless.
Living in a country with a history going back millennia, it wasn't hard to stumble upon historic streets with old buildings and monuments, but this was completely different.
She was still admiring the way the stone around the windows had been carved to look like trees trying to get into the building when she felt something settle on the small of her back. A hand.
Nesta stiffened slightly, before closing her eyes and relaxing.
Cassian must have noticed her discomfort because a moment later his hand was no longer touching her.
They entered the museum part of the building in silence and Nesta paid the entrance fees, reminding him of the tea he'd offered her last Sunday and Cassian hadn't been able to argue with that.
They had just passed the doors to the first room, the smallest in the entire palace, when he leaned towards her, to the point of touching her ear with his lips.
The fact that he was whispering as if they had been in a sacred place did things to her little icy heart, "Mr. Hawthorn was not a man."
Shocked by that information, Nesta's head snapped in his direction and she realised too late that she had miscalculated the space.
Her lips brushed against his cheek, the corner of his lips, before Cassian reacted so quickly he startled her, but avoiding them both an involuntary first kiss. His sudden movement caused him to lose his balance and he reached out his hands towards her, straightening as he held on to her shoulders.
Both of them were holding their breath.
Cassian cleared his throat, shifting his gaze to the wall of books, but returning to look at her soon after, "I'm sorry."
"I'm sorry, you just surprised me," she said when she had recovered. "I must have read the article wrong."
He was still watching her and shook his head, "Oh no, I don't think it's that. They only found out a few months ago that it was Georgina and not George Hawthorn. They found letters in the house of what was thought to be Hawthorn's wife. Some people think they were just friends, but anyone who has read the letters they exchanged knows full well that they were lovers. Anyone who says otherwise is either homophobic or stupid."
Nesta realised that she could have listened to this for hours on end. And so it was.
The visit continued relatively quietly, Cassian explaining every detail to her, expanding on things she already knew and when he forgot something, she would step in and have her say, commenting on every little aspect.
She'd noticed how Cassian hadn't tried to touch her anymore and how whenever someone was about to bump into her, he'd vocally warn her instead of wrapping an arm around her shoulders to move her out of their way like he had on Sunday.
The visit to the museum lasted less than expected unfortunately, because Nesta hadn't had this much fun in too long. It was becoming easier to smile at him or tease him when he said dumb things and even he seemed to finally be more at ease when he had to make jokes that smacked of him.
When they finally got to the shop, Nesta couldn't stand on her feet anymore, she just wanted to buy all the books she saw and go home and arrange them on her shelves.
"Which section do you want to see first?" she asked him, even though she had started hopping impatiently about the place.
Cassian gave her a smug look, "Why don't you go wherever you want and I'll look for the manuals for the gazebo in the meantime? That way you don't waste time keeping up with me. I'll be right there."
Nesta let out an excited squeal and ran off, hearing only the echo of laughter that shook Cassian from head to toe.
***
As Cassian flipped through the various books to find a picture of a gazebo that looked similar to the one Feyre had requested, he kept casting glances at Nesta.
Her eyes sparkled as she grabbed book after book without even reading the synopses. She was in the romance novels section, from what he could see from where he stood, but soon ended up in the classics, where she grabbed just as many books. She moved to the mystery books section, this time stopping to read the plots and putting most of them back on the shelves.
Then, surprising Cassian, she walked over to where the historical novels were and turned to face him. He bent his head to the side, raising an eyebrow to ask her what she was doing there. Nesta seemed at a loss, trying to move all the books from one arm to the other to point him to join her, but Cassian was already halfway there and when she looked back up at him and found him standing in front of her, she gave him a bright smile.
"Hello." she exclaimed.
Cassian's breath caught for a second before he too sighed a greeting.
"I was thinking," Nesta began, running her eyes over the titles in front of them, "that you could recommend something about..." she wiggled her fingers as much as she could, trying to point to the shelf, and Cassian leaned forward, cursing himself for not thinking of it sooner.
"Here," he removed the first stack of books from her arms and she sagged a little, giving him a thankful look. "I can go get a bag so you can put them all in there and you don't have to carry them like this," he said taking all the books and having her help him arrange them so they wouldn't fall out.
He smiled at her over all the books, looking down at her and she smiled back just as happily.
Hell, if she looked at him like that every time he took her to a bookstore he should do it more often.
He had just turned to go towards the entrance, where he had seen special bags for carrying books, but Nesta stopped him by putting a hand on his arm.
"Wait!" she exclaimed almost impishly.
Cassian turned his head, genuinely worried that something had happened to her in the mere seconds he had been shot. He must have moved too fast, because one of the smaller classics flew off the top of the stack and landed right in her face.
Nesta groaned at the impact and brought her hands to her face, rubbing her forehead where it hurt.
"Oh my God, are you okay?!" he asked with wide eyes. And then Nesta laughed, her eyes sparkling with amusement as she stared at him and he visibly relaxed. "Christ, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to throw a book at you."
She waved a hand in mid-air, to let him know it was nothing, and bent down to pick up what he realised was A Vindication of the Rights of Woman. Of course Nesta was reading feminist classics.
She turned back to the books as if nothing had happened and Cassian had the urge to look for a list of all the bookstores in the world to take her to if it meant having her in such a good mood by his side, it didn't matter if she would never agree to go on a real date with him, he realised. As long as he could see her smile like that, he didn't need anything else.
"So, I was saying, before you battered me with a book-" she cast an amused glance over one shoulder at him.
He frowned, muttering, "I said sorry."
Nesta ignored him, "What do you recommend?"
Cassian blinked.
"You said you read historical novels right?" she asked, looking for confirmation, "You could recommend your favourites. But not the English or Russian classics. Or French ones. Chances are I've already read those."
Cassian was stunned. Nesta wanted advice on books. From him.
They were silent for too long as she turned around impatiently, "You lied?"
He looked surprised, "When?"
"When you said you were reading. Were you just doing it to impress me or were you serious?" she asked and maybe Cassian imagined it, but she looked disappointed.
He was quick to reply, "The Black Coat, by Neamat Imam. It's pretty recent, but set in the 1970s in Bangladesh. It's about a man who needs help and seeks it from a journalist he asks for work and one of the main themes is the famine that hit the country after it became independent. It's not my absolute favourite, but it certainly gives you something to think about."
Nesta nodded, searching through the titles and finding it almost immediately, "Anything else?"
Cassian felt his neck heat up and coughed a little before resuming speaking. "The Long Ships by Frans G. Bengtsson. Set in the tenth century, it's about a Viking who is called Red because of his hair and focuses on the European political outlook in the late Viking Age. Again, it's not as good as the historical classics, but it's nice and shows a way of life that we're definitely not used to. It's different."
After looking for a few minutes, Nesta gave up reading and turned to him, crossing her arms. She tilted her head to the side, watching him closely, "What's your favourite book?"
Cassian shrugged, settling the books against his chest, "I think at the moment it's The King Must Die by Mary Renault. But I change my mind every month when I find something more interesting or captivating."
She nodded thoughtfully, "I'll take that one then."
And Cassian wished he could change the title immediately because... what if she didn't like it? Or if she thought it was a stupid book? What would she think of him then?
But Nesta had already found a copy a few shelves down and there was no turning back.
He could counterattack, though, "What about yours? You're not going to give me any advice on feminist classics or blatantly trashy romance novels?"
Nesta opened her mouth wide, looking outraged as she placed the latest addition on the pile, settling the book under her chin, "How can you say they're trashy if you don't even know what they're about?"
Cassian chuckled, "On the cover of You Came," he said as he gave her a sly look, "there's something called a 'spicymeter'. How am I supposed to take you seriously?"
Nesta blushed, "I read erotic novels, so what? I have to keep myself busy in my spare time somehow."
And then he challenged her, "Get me the hottest book you've ever read," he said in a joking tone, "I'll go get the bag in the meantime."
She had already left for the section when he had an idea that would surely doom him depending on how Nesta would react.
He walked up to the cashier's desk, making sure she didn't notice, and begging the clerk behind the counter to be quick, paid for all her books, gently placing them back in the bags.
When he reached her again, she seemed not to have noticed anything.
"'So, what did you get me? Ride Me? Fucked You Good? Last Night I Gave You A Thousand Orgasms?" he teased her with an annoyed grin on his lips.
Nesta gave him a fiery glance before noticing the bags, quite different from those you put the things you wanna buy in, and closed her mouth tightly. She frowned and looked at them for so long before speaking that Cassian began to feel self-conscious.
"You paid for my books?" she whispered, looking at him.
He nodded.
"It's not a date, Cassian," she reminded him for the umpteenth time.
"I know, but-"
"So why would you pay for things that are mine?"
He couldn't read her. She wasn't hinting at anything.
She didn't look angry but she didn't look impressed or grateful either.
Cassian placed the bags on the ground between them and Nesta followed his every movement with her eyes.
He ran a hand through his hair, sighing, "My adoptive family is filthy rich. I have a trust fund that I never get to spend on things I really want to do, the only way I get to use it is by giving gifts to my friends, so just accept these as my first gift - friend to friend - and call it a day."
Nesta continued to be impassive as she kept her eyes fixed on the books.
Perhaps he had gone too far. After all, she had taken more than a hundred and fifty euros worth of stuff, but he really didn't mind.
He was about to apologise, tell her she could give the money back if it made her feel better. Cassian would find a way to spend it back on her at other times anyway.
Then she raised her head, handing him two books with hilarious covers to say the least, "These two have storylines full of plot twists. You won't be able to put them down, but don't expect big epic battles or Viking warriors. It's just two college kids trying to survive in the modern world while finding solace in each other."
He didn't even have time to thank her that she was already across the room and waiting in line so she could pay them.
He scoffed, shaking his head.
"I guess you'll be paying for these two," he said as he caught up with her.
Nesta didn't even look at him, pulling out her wallet, "A gift from a friend to a friend."
As they walked back to the car, Cassian offered to carry the bags, but she didn't want to hear one more word so they had managed to compromise and had split the load equally.
They'd been on the road for about thirty minutes now and Nesta had gone through every book he'd bought her, talking about all the previous works by the authors she was holding in her hand at the moment.
Cassian could have died like that. Happy, relaxed, listening to the plots of those dirty books with no moral lessons to teach the reader, just pure entertainment.
He wondered at that moment if he would make it through the first few chapters of the books she had offered him and let out a heavy breath through his nose as he turned right towards the coast.
Nesta looked at him wide-eyed, stopping her rant about the headmaster's son getting the occasional model student to fall in love with him. She brought a hand to her mouth, "Oh dear, sorry, I'm boring you. I'm sorry."
He gave her a confused look ready to tell her she didn't have to apologise, but she continued.
"Sometimes I do and I don't even realize it. And I realize they're not challenging plots where you have to apply some hidden lobe of the brain to understand them, but they distract me from everyday problems, you know? It's fun to be able to unplug a few hours after I get home from work and-"
"Jesus, Nesta, stop!" he laughed, placing a hand on her thigh. She sighed. "You don't have to apologise. Not when you're so excited about something." he looked at her slyly, offering her a reassuring smile, "In fact, I'm glad you're talking so much today. Normally I have to pull the words out of your mouth."
She blushed slightly and then grew sullen soon after, sitting up straighter, "This isn't the way to Velaris, where are we going?"
Cassian didn't answer.
"You're taking me into the woods aren't you?"
"We literally just came out of a forest."
She ignored him.
"I knew it. You're a serial killer."
"Nes-"
"You're a little dense though. Why would you spend so much on someone if you're going to murder them?"
He decided to ignore her, chuckling, "I'm taking you to the beach."
"Why?" she asked, somewhat unconvinced.
Cassian shrugged, "I wanted to see the sunset."
"You didn't ask."
He sighed, gripping the steering wheel, "Okay," he whispered, then louder, "You want to go to the beach and watch the sunset?"
She nodded in assent and then continued to read the plots aloud.
And Cassian could have sworn he was in heaven.
***
Nesta gathered more sand, making a small ball out of it and placing it on the top of one of the towers she had made so far.
"Where did you learn to make such good sandcastles?" asked Cassian suddenly from behind her, startling her.
She jumped in the air, turning to face him and noticing the satisfied smile on his face for having taken her by surprise.
Nesta didn't answer him immediately, but allowed herself to admire him a bit.
Since they had arrived at the beach, they had taken off their shoes and were now both barefoot and then Cassian had bent down and started to roll his trousers around his ankles, offering to do it to her jeans as well, but Nesta had refused. She had sat down, looking at the sea for a while, while he walked along the shore and collected stones and shells.
When he had come back to her and shown them to her, asking her to make a sandcastle, she had laughed at first, but faced with his serious expression, she had been unable to do anything but get up and roll up her sleeves, moving to where the sand was a little more workable.
She looked away from that heavenly vision and made another ball, placing it next to the one she had just made. "When I was little my mum never let me do these, she said I'd get too much sun and forced me and Elain to stay under the umbrella all day," she replied truthfully, remembering the cruel bite of jealousy watching the children on the shore.
"And Feyre?"
Cassian had joined her, kneeling beside her and had begun to place the shells so that they served as windows to the towers.
Nesta sighed, "Feyre was still too little when Mini Me wanted to build sandcastles, but as soon as I became 'too old to play like a kid'," she gave him a knowing look, mimicking her mother's voice, "and Feyre started to figure out she was an actual being, Mama let her do whatever she wanted. Even stand in the sun for hours on end." she shrugged. "Whether it was out of indifference or love, I never understood."
Cassian had been silent the whole time and now he watched her, hands on his thighs as he waited for her to give him more. For her to tell him another little piece of her soul.
So she offered him a forced smile, "So to answer your question, it's all pent-up creativity."
"Well, you're very good at it," he granted her. "I can imagine what you could have done if your mother hadn't been so strict."
Well, yeah.
"What about you?" she asked him.
"What about me?"
"Did you go to the beach a lot?"
Cassian smiled weakly, getting up and heading towards the water to collect more shells. He nodded a couple of times and then said, "My mum and I loved coming to the beach and she loved making castles. And she always put so many 'windows' on the towers-"
Nesta turned to look at their work, realising how many shells he had placed on the piles of sand. She smiled softly, covering her eyes from the sun and watching him walk towards her.
"We always came when she was free from work."
A charged silence settled between them until Cassian chuckled, drawing her attention, "What?"
"You said this wasn't a date. And that we're just friends. Right?"
Shifting her gaze to him, she noticed how he kept his hands hidden behind his back and the mischievous glint in his eyes didn't reassure her at all. Slowly she stood up, nodding.
"So, I must treat you as I would treat my friends. Correct?"
"Cassian, I swear to god that-"
She didn't have time to finish her sentence that something wet and sticky landed in her face with a resounding splash, making her jump back.
She took a deep breath and immediately regretted it when a strong smell of stale water and seaweed flooded her nostrils.
When she opened her eyes again, wiping the seaweed from her face, Cassian was doubled over in laughter.
She didn't even give him time to get up when she started to run towards him - to do what, she had no idea - but he started to run away too and soon they were chasing each other all around the beach, not noticing the sweet looks they were getting from the people around them.
At that moment, Nesta was running so fast that she could feel the wind in her hair and the smell and sound of the sea, together with the laughter of the man who was chasing her, mixed with her own and the continuous tapping of her feet on the sand, made her feel alive.
She felt Cassian come closer every few metres until two strong arms wrapped around her waist and she was pulled up and spun around in the air.
A surprised yelp escaped her as Cassian laughed in her ear, "Gotcha!"
It wasn't until he stopped spinning with her in his arms that they realised the position they were in and immediately broke away, laughing embarrassed.
Nesta turned to face him, her face red from running and her breathing laboured. He was in no better condition. His hair was pointing in all directions and his sculpted chest was rising and falling with haste under the black fabric of his shirt.
He looked away first, scratching the back of his neck and fixing his eyes on the sunset, and offered her his arm as they returned to where they had left theirs things unattended.
Nesta shook her head, laughing one last time and started to run, " Last to reach the castle is stupid!"
Cassian burst out laughing, but he caught up to her in the blink of an eye and they both knew that she had doomed herself to lose. That's why, when he fell tripping over his feet, Nesta knew he had done it on purpose.
She helped him up and they sat back as in silence they watched the sun go down, disappearing past the horizon and the blending lights of the sky created a breathtaking spectacle.
Nesta couldn't have noticed, too busy admiring the clouds, but Cassian had been watching her the whole time, trying to understand how something as sombre and secretive as her could look so bright just by being.
The journey back was silent, but this time the silence was not awkward. They both welcomed it with open arms, a new awareness that there was no need for it to be filled with chatter and that gave Nesta the opportunity to close her eyes for a moment and doze off.
When the car stopped outside her flat, Nesta was surprised to find that she didn't want to get out.
She turned to Cassian after she had gathered her things and nodded, "I had fun today."
He gave her a genuine smile, looking surprised, "Me too."
And then she permanently shocked him, adding, "I'm not working on Saturday, we could do it again. Changing location."
He blinked once. Twice. Then he nodded, "Sure."
He didn't seem to want to say anything more, so Nesta waved goodbye to him and then got out, not waiting for an answer from him.
Cassian stood motionless in the car park of her flat for another half hour, trying to figure out what had just happened, and when the reality of things finally dawned on him, he smiled, "Fuck yeah."

“hey guys! meet my girlfriend!”
jay pulled his girlfriend closer to his side by her waist and you felt your heart crack. you knew something was off when jay was running up to you and jake while holding a girl’s hand, both of them elated when they saw them. you glance at jake, who is trying his best to smile. jake claps his hands together.
“wow, i’m so happy for you two!”
you purse your lips. you know the girl, her name seulbi, and you also knew that jake liked her since your freshman year. jay looks over to you expectantly.
“yn?”
“you two are cute together, i’m sure you guys are lucky to have each other.” you barely choke the words up, every word paining your heart to the point you want to cry. jay smiles brightly, unaware of your pain and he hugs seulbi unbearably closer, the two of them smiling at each other with the sweetness one has when they’re in the honeymoon phase. jake grabs your wrist, pulling you towards him.
“I think me and yn should get going, we have physics next period and we don’t want to be late.” jake smiles but you feel how hard he’s gripping your wrist and you know he just wants to leave as fast as possible. jay tilts his head but he nods.
“I think me and yn should get going, we have physics next period and we don’t want to be late.” jake smiles but you feel how hard he’s gripping your wrist and you know he just wants to leave as fast as possible. jay tilts his head but he nods.
“yeah, of course, don’t let us take too much of your time.”
jake nods and the moment he turns his back to them, his smile drops heavily and he takes the two of you to the physics room, but he grabs your bags and hands them to you before dragging you two out of the school building.
“jake, where are we going?” you turn back to watch the school get farther and farther away the farther jake dragged you out the building. jake doesn’t even look back at you, getting tunnel vision with only one goal in mind.
“skipping. we’re going to my house.” he says it with so much finality that you don’t bother to argue, because honestly, you don’t want to be in school knowing jay is somewhere kissing up his new girlfriend, the thought making you feel sick to your stomach. you stay quiet, a silence falling between you two as you leave school grounds through the gate. jake stops by a convenience store, the summer heat plus the adrenaline making him crave a popsicle. you wait outside as he pays for the treats, sitting against the window of the store, and he comes out and hands you a soda flavored popsicle that you take with a ‘thanks.’ jake plops down next to you and leans against your side as he opens his popsicle and sticks it in his mouth.
“this fucking sucks.” he groans, pushing against you as he leans on his back. you hum, eating your popsicle as you watch people pass you two on the street. jake goes on. “i’ve liked seulbi for so long and she’s suddenly with jay? are you kidding?” he whines.
you chuckle. pressing your back against the window and jake slides down to your lap when you shift. he looks up to you with a frown.
“didn’t you like jay? why are you so much calmer than me?”
you clench your jaw, taking a bite of your popsicle out of frustration.
“i’m so sad i can die right now.” you groan, slumping even further against the window. you’ve liked jay since you guys were kids, though you only realized your feelings in middle school. jake frowns.
“oh yeah, you’ve had a big crush on him since you were in diapers.”
you jab jake’s stomach, making him thrash in your lap.
“way to rub it in, asshole.”
jake laughs.
“look at us, two fools in the same boat.”
you sigh, finishing off the rest of your popsicle.
“it’s like our own little club.” you add on and jake’s eyes widen and his smile grows. he sits up excitedly and looks at you with sparkling eyes.
“we can call it a heartbreak club! doesn’t that sound cool?”
you raise your eyebrow.
“are you trying to tack a fancy little name on our pain to make it feel better?” you muse, and jake shrugs.
“sounds better than ‘losers that got rejected before they even got to confess’”
you snort, looking away again.
“sure. heartbreak club it is.” you whisper, testing the name out. jake smiles and finishes off his popsicle, grabbing yours and his trash and throwing it away before taking your hand and pulling you up. he smiles at you, bright and cheery, all too happy for someone that just got their heart broken.
“first club activity is video games at my house.’
you return his smile.
“you’re on.”
Tumblr media
you had initially thought that jake somehow managed to get over his feelings for seulbi after a good popsicle, with how loud and happy he was when you two were playing video games, but you were sorely mistaken. upon walking into homeroom, you didn’t even get to sit down when jake came barreling towards you, grabbing your hand and pushing you out of the classroom.
“let’s go get some drinks.” he says hurriedly, taking you to the vending machines. you manage to steal one glance into the classroom, and you see why. seulbi was standing over jay, the two of them chatting over something you obviously couldn’t hear with how jake is dragging you away, but they’re both smiling sweetly. you understand, your mood souring immensely as well. jake takes you to the vending machines and feeds the machine some bills before punching in buttons to get two drinks. he hands you your favorite drink before stabbing his straw into his. you drink it immediately, rather leaning against the vending machine and observing jake sulkily drink his chocolate milk.
“you’re more hung up on her than i thought.” you mention, jake looking up at you from where he was boring holes into the floor and blushing, pulling away from his drink.
“i thought i was better after yesterday but when i saw the two of them together, i felt like throwing up.” jake admits, sipping his drink again. you hum.
“yeah i get it.” you open your drink and sip on it as well, the two of you taking your time to avoid witnessing whatever love fest jay and seulbi have going on in homeroom. jake takes your trash again, sighing before starting to walk back to homeroom, you following him. you two pass seulbi on the way back and she greets you two happily. jake smiles at her and waves back, you nodding at her in acknowledgement. you push forward a little more, slinging your arm around jake’s shoulder and holding him a little closer.
“don’t worry, we’ll get through this together.” you murmur and jake nods. you two enter the classroom and take your seats, jake behind jay and you beside jake. jay smiles at you and greets you good morning, you do the same, but you can’t bring the same energy as you used to, every word turning bitter in your mouth. you swallow down the taste and pay attention to the board when the teacher comes in.
this is going to be hard.
Tumblr media
jake has started clinging to you more, though you’re not any better. every time jay suggests you and him hang out, you say you’re hanging out with jake, even if you two don’t have anything planned. jake plays along, and you two do end up hanging out so it’s not a complete lie, jake has started buying you things, whether it be food or keychains, leaving snacks on your table or handing you a cutely packaged box after purchasing something at a store you two were perusing. you know he’s doing this because he needs a way to pour out his feelings for seulbi without doing it on her, and you two have your little club so who better than you?
“jake, this is the sixth pin you’ve bought me.” you say as you open the box jake handed you upon entering the classroom and sitting down. jake shrugs and smiles.
“it’s your favorite character.” he says easily, you huffing but you stick pull up your backpack to pin it with the other enamel pins jake had bought you.
“you’re so stupid.” you laugh, setting your backpack down and lightly kicking jake’s chair. jake just laughs before laying his head on his desk to rest. it was a free period so you let him, stretching your legs to rest them under jake’s chair. you look up and find yourself making eye contact with jay. you flinch, startled by his calculative gaze.
“what?” you prompt.
“are you two dating?”
you choke on your spit. out of all the things to come out of jay’s mouth, you didn’t think it was going to be that. you shake your head.
“no? why?”
jay shrugs.
“he always buys you stuff, you two always hang out together, and you two have been awfully clingy lately.” jay grins, like he’s onto something, like he’s finally caught you and jake in something. you freeze.
have you and jake been acting like a couple lately?
you shake your head.
“no, we aren’t dating.” you say but you can’t say it confidently. your brain takes a halt and you look over to jake, who’s snoring softly into his arms.
why can’t you say it confidently?
you have an inkling of an answer, but that inkling is enough to make you feel sick. this can not be happening.
jay raises an eyebrow.
“oh really? could’ve fooled me.”
you laugh nervously. but the inside of your head is racing.
you think you like jake.
Tumblr media
“do you think you would try to get jay to fall in love with you?”
jake lies on his stomach, you sitting against the wall and your knees bent over his back, the two of you sitting on his bed. you look over at him, setting your notebook aside.
“no, i don’t think i would. jay seems perfectly happy, and as long as he’s happy, i don’t see any reason to interfere.” you say thoughtfully, reaching over to pat jake’s back. “what about you? are you willing to try to get seulbi to date you?”
jake rolls over, lying on his back now to stare at the ceiling.
“no, not really. if jay and her end up breaking up, then maybe, but i don’t know if i still like her that much.”
you raise your eyebrow.
“you’re over her?” you ask. jake glances at you before shrugging.
“yeah, something like that.” jake looks at you. “ what about you? are you over jay?’
your heart seizes. yeah you are for the most part. you still get little butterflies when jay smiles that one smile, but you think that’s just the park jongseong effect.
“yeah, i would say i am.” the problem, now though, is that you like jake now. you turn your head away to grab your notebook and set it back on your lap, just needing something to distract you from your growing feelings for the other. jake hums.
“cool. cool.”
that was the last thing you two talked about before you went home, your head fuller than it was before.
Tumblr media
jake has been avoiding you.
you noticed immediately.
it was the day after the conversation you had when you two were sitting in bed together, not making you feel any better. did jake find out you liked him? you don’t think you were being particularly obvious, especially with how much you swallowed your feelings because you thought he still liked seulbi. are you going to be the only member of the heartbreak club? maybe you can become president, a whole two heartbreaks under your belt when jake dumps you before you even had a shot at being subtle with your feelings. the worst thing that can happen is that he’s straight and you started having feelings for a straight boy. wait fuck, is jake even into guys? that left you spiraling for a good ten minutes.
whenever you try to talk to him, he gives you this strange look and murmur one word answers. he refuses to look you in the eye for more than a second as well, no matter how hard you try to get his attention. you felt your stomach tie itself into anxious knots, not knowing what you did or what’s wrong. jay notices and buys you a bottle of water and rubs your back when jake leaves during the break period.
“what’s with jake?” he asks, and you wail, slumping on your desk.
“i don’t know.” you grumble, frowning excessively because jake being upset makes you feel like shit. jay sighs and pulls up a chair to sit beside you to comfort you. jake comes back before the break ends and sees jay rubbing your back, whispering words he can’t hear into your ear. he taps your shoulder, and you look up from your desk to look at whoever tapped you, eyes widening when you see it’s jake. he’s frowning, eyes shifting between you and jay.
“i want to talk.”
you feel your heart drop, his tone making you a lot more nervous than you already were. you look at jay, who nods and gets up to go back to his desk. you get out of your chair and follow jake, who takes you to an empty classroom, locking the door after you two get inside. you lean on a desk, fidgeting with the hem of your shirt.
“what did you want to talk about?”
jake freezes from where he is at the door, looking over his shoulder and making eye contact with you. he immediately adverts his gaze and you feel like digging a grave for you to jump in.
“uh, i don’t know how to tell you this.” he starts and your heart spikes, feeling as if it’s about to jump out of your chest and flop at your feet. “it’s kind of sudden and i don’t want to make you feel uncomfortable.” he continues.
this is it. he’s going to tell you he’s straight and that he knows of your feelings, and you’re going to have to change your name and leave the country. this is somehow more crushing than finding out jay has a girlfriend after having a crush on him for years.
“i like you.”
huh.
“you like dudes?” of course that’s the thing that falls from your mouth the moment you find out your feelings are reciprocated. luckily, jake finds your stupidity amusing. jake laughs.
“well that was what i was thinking about all day actually, if i liked guys or not. i wasn’t planning to tell you today, but then i saw you and jay and i,” he pauses, collecting his words, “i couldn’t think properly, i just knew i liked you and that i didn’t like you two so close together.” he sighs.
you blink, still in awe that jake likes you back. jake frowns.
“can you please say something? we’re on the second floor but i think i can get somewhere if i jump out the window.”
you snap your head at him and then wave your hands around frantically.
“fuck, shit, i like you too, sorry, i just,” you take a deep breath, “i just can’t believe you actually like me back.” you whisper. jake looks stunned, dumbstruck, before he breaks into a wide smile. he walks up to you and leans forward, caging you in between his arms by placing his hands on the desk you’re leaning on. your breath hitches when jake gets closer to your face. you bring your hands up, unsure of what to do with them but then settling with pressing them against jake’s chest.
“can i kiss you?” he whispers and you take in another breath because you feel like you’re going to forget to. you nod gently and jake doesn’t waste time to connect your lips with his. his lips are little chapped and raw, his lip biting habit taking the wheel for the majority of today because of how hard he was thinking, but they still felt intoxicating against yours. you keep chasing his lips when they aren’t yours even if it was just for a second, making him chuckle and his laugh just makes your head spin even more. you eventually lose your breath and you grip his shirt. he pulls away and you gasp for air, eyes blurry and mind cloudy. jake takes in some breaths too but he immediately kisses you once more because he just thinks you’re the prettiest boy in the world.
“let’s get out of here.” he declares, taking your hand. “let’s get our bags and leave before class starts” he drags you out of the classroom towards your classroom, making you wait outside as he goes inside to get your things. he comes out shortly, doesn’t even hand you your things, and just slings both of your bags over his shoulder to take your hand and drags you out of the school, dodging teachers to pass the gate.
“where are we going?” you ask. jake looks back and smiles.
“my place. we’re graduating from heartbreak club today.” he announces. you smile.
“so what club are we in now?”
jake hums, before giving you a sly smile.
“boyfriends club?”
your eyes widen before your face splits into a large grin.
“yeah that sounds nice.” you say but then you chuckle. “god you sound like such a dork.”
jake hums, stopping in front you and turning back to hold both of your hands.
“but i’m your dork now.”
your heart skips a beat, despite the cheesiness.
“yes, you are. you’re my dork.”

‘No girls or Jungkook’s allowed! ’
The sign on the door filled you with so much anger. You had to physically remember to breathe, it wouldn’t do to start yelling at the hybrids, they already felt inferior and vulnerable compared to humans. You never wanted them to feel weak, which is why you were mad. You didn’t care if they wanted to exclude you, but you would give the two young men a strong lecture for even thinking about excluding Jungkook.
“Jimin and Taehyung I would like to talk with you,” you ripped the sign down and tore it up. It would be best to dispose of the evidence before the young man saw it. Seeing his hyungs ignoring him would break him, “If you are upset talk to me and I will try to fix the situation.”
There was no response so you sighed walking away pushing the small lump in your throat down, you heard them whispering and thought maybe they needed time. It was after lunch that you began wondering if they planned to lock themselves up all day. Jungkook sat on the soft rug looking at the video games and he smiled setting up the controllers as he looked between two games.
“Which one do you think is better?” Jungkook asked Seokjin who took one of the controllers and smiled, he read both and grinned and you stepped over sitting on the floor picking up a controller.
“I can play right, I think Jimin and Taehyung are talking about some things,” You smiled, nuzzling his hair for a second and leaning back on Seokjin’s legs. “So what are we playing, I have never played before?”
Namjoon ended up joining and Yoongi took a seat on your spare side on the rug and leaned on one of Seokjin’s legs laughing at your expense. “You missed, he was right there and you missed, he shot you,”
“Look, I am a Minecraft kind of videogamer, you know the sims?” You puffed your cheeks flailing as you tried to shoot Namjoon who was doing a lot of shouting and not a lot of aiming either.
Everyone was in stitches. You almost forgot about the other two boys who were feuding with you. It was late and you had played a series of driving and shooting games and a game of Minecraft; where you all made a village and lived side by side and visited each other's houses with food and tools.
“I am hungry,” Jungkook pouted, pulling your sleeve and glancing at the dark kitchen. You looked at the time, and your mouth dropped open. “When is dinner?”
“Let’s order in, I can’t be bothered cooking,” You ordered a bunch of food, making sure to get Jimin and Taehyung’s favorite dishes so that you could lure them out. They would no doubt be hungry.
The food was delivered and as you removed the lids you named the dishes loudly hoping the two locked away in their room would emerge and eat something.
It’s super effective!
You smile as everyone digs in. The two boys were obviously mad and jealous that you had slept in Jungkook’s room and you wondered how you would possibly be able to fix this.
“I will take Wednesdays,” Yoongi smiled “I like Wednesdays”
“What is he talking about?” Hoseok asked he was just as confused by the white tiger's outburst looking towards Namjoon who with a mouth full of noodles shrugged.
“Sunday’s you can sleep in Jungkook’s room, and mine on Wednesdays,”
“Oh I will take Monday’s” Hoseok smiled, brightly
“Monday is tonight” Jimin accused looking panicked, “fine, I will take Tuesday then”
“Can you sleep in my rooms on Wednesday?” Taehyung said,
“Wednesday is already taken,” Yoongi glared, placing some meat on Taehyung’s plate in an attempt to console him, “Take Thursday”
“Yes Thursday”
“I will take Saturday,” Jin grinned, “Which means Namjoon is Friday? Is that alright?”
You blinked watching this all unfold, they had just decided on their own sleep schedule for you. It was nice to see them working together but you didn’t know how to feel about moving rooms every night. But at this point, anything seemed more comfortable than the couch. “Maybe once and when I have stayed once in everyone's rooms, I will go back on the couch.”
“What if two people share a room and have bunk beds or something, then that leaves a free room for you?” Jimin said, grabbing some tteokbokki, “I can share with Hoseok or Taehyung or Jungkook, I can give you my room. It can be your own little space.”
“Oh, my room! My room!” Hoseok said, “I miss the sound of other people in the night, we can get bunk beds.”
Hoseok and Jimin grinned at one another, the two already talking about how they would design and decorate their room. Heading into the bathroom you cleaned up the clothes off the floor and dumped them in the hamper. It made you laugh how comfortable they were all getting enough to drop their clothes on the floor right beside the hamper.
Taking a rather warm shower you scrubbed your skin wondering if you would smell different again in the morning. It was a strange thought, once scrubbed and buffed clean you wrapped yourself in your towel and stood on the small mat in front of the basin. Examining your appearance, as you slowly moisturize your skin.
Whilst smoothing the cool night cream across your brow you thought you saw an orange tail in the mirror turning you thought Seokjin had burst into the bathroom to pee but when you turned nothing and nobody was there.
It left you feeling a little unsettled, it was your head playing tricks on you. Getting dressed you all but ran out into the hall smacking into Seokjin who was coming out of his room. You grasped his large shoulders to prevent yourself from falling back. He gripped your waist in response.
“Woah, what’s wrong, why are you scared?” He asked, his tail fluffed and his ears twitching looking for a threat. A few heads popped out of their rooms, “You reek of fear, what happened?”
“I spooked myself, one of the towels moved in the bathroom and I thought it was something else and I got scared, that’s all” Your voice died off with your rambling, and the blush settled upon your cheeks.
Hoseok walked over and took your hands, “don’t worry, you are staying in my room tonight so I will protect you!” His chipper tone did wonders to ease your distress, pulling you along to his room where he tucked the two of you into the bed.
“Thank you, I miss having people to talk to and just be there,” He smiled, “I am excited to get to stay with Jimin, he is such a nice guy.”
“He is a sweetheart when we were little we used to play together and he always wanted to play pirates and superheroes but on my 4th birthday no one from our school showed up to my princess party. So Jimin dressed up as a princess as did my carer Felix and his carer Astrid and we all shared snacks and cake”
“YOU SAID YOU WOULDN'T TELL ANYONE!” Jimin’s voice screeched from the hallway seconds before rapid footsteps. His figure appeared in the doorway for a split second, his sock-clad feet slipping out from underneath him sending him sliding further down the hallway.
“I have pictures too,” You giggled
“Send them to me.” Yoongi’s tired drawl came from a few rooms up and you grinned airdropping them around the house. Jimin tried to wrestle the phone from your hands and you grinned, pulling him onto the bed.
“Time for bed Jimin, lay down or get out.” he indeed snuggled up on your other side, Hoseok and Jimin's arms wrapped around you and you were indeed feeling quite safe from your previous scare.
