The Light in Ariel’s Grotto Comes From the Surface.

That’s all. That’s so cool and perfect. It has to be hidden, but it’s not a dark and gross place, because to Ariel, everything in it is beautiful. Because it comes from her beloved Surface.

Of course, all light under the sea logically comes from the surface, that isn’t special. But in the rest of the ocean, the light from the surface is just generally dispersed so you don’t notice it. In her grotto, it’s not general—it’s focused on. The circular, tower-like shape of her grotto means all the attention is drawn up, to the surface, not just to the gallery of stuff she’s collected.

The Surface is the light that Ariel can see everything in her grotto by. Just like how she sees everything differently than the others under the sea, because she’s been up to the surface before. Her perspective is different. She literally sees everything in a different light.

The set design for this part of the movie is so cool.

(I know it’s obvious but I feel like if we appreciated the obvious more often we would realize why these movies are so good)

omg omg i could talk abt this movie FOREVER

MM has been out for a while and theres no spoilers below but ill put a spoiler warning just in case !

i loved every bit of this movie but my absolute favorite thing was the animation <333

bowing down to spiderverse, mutant mayhem, the mitchells vs. the machines, etc. bc that style of animation just blows my mind. you can tell that a lot of hard work went into this movie from just the animation alone and i was in awe seeing it in theatres. i remember, from the behind the scenes thing, the director/animation team saying they wanted little doodles included in the animation, to represent the doodles a kid/teen might do on their homework or sketchbooks. the faint swirls, squiggly lines, and comic-like scenes captured that so well.

another thing i really like about mutant mayhem is that it also captured being a young teen really well. like the turtles literally acted exactly like my younger cousins and it was so funny.

the soundtrack was so good too, i was freaking out every time a song i knew played lol

anyways i could go even more in depth but id be writing on and on forever, this movie is so SO amazing and i'm really grateful for everyone who put it together and worked hard on it <3
