In the world where purebloods hold all the power, muggleborns are second-class citizens and muggles denied humanity, Tom Riddle never made it to the top. Ostracized by most of the society for impure heritage, he decides to stay under the radar and opens a school providing education to those whom Hogwarts denies it - half-bloods, squibs, muggleborns and those holding dangerous, antigovernmental ideas. With raging propaganda, his pupils are considered as nothing more as dregs of society and their skills and powers remain completely underestimated.

The whole notion of purebloods immune to Riddle's charms and talents and Tom choosing to stand as opposition to the elites is refreshing. A much more common trope in fanfiction is Riddle climbing the ranks with full support and backing of such families like Malfoys, Notts, Lestragses and holding position of power in the ministry or the military. In this story he needs to operate in the shadows and be underestimated.

We follow the school years of Harry and Hermione in Riddle's school. Both of them posses unique and extraordinary talents that will make them useful to Riddle's revolutionary effort. The overall level of power wielded by different protagonist is spectacular - disintegration of matter, mind manipulation at the distance, warding, battle magic and many others. On one hand these worldbuilding elements are creative and when first encountered, interesting to the reader. On the other, developing so many characters to overlord level will inevitably lead at some point of the story to an all-out confrontation, changing the battle of wits, spying and guerilla tactics into last-man-standing situation. I definitely consider a much more subtle to be a more interesting storyline.

This is a very dark fic featuring murder, acts of violence, torture, brainwashing and elements of body horror. Lucius Malfoy created a dictatorship catering to the need of elites and his rule is strengthened by propaganda spread by media, schools and scientifically incorrect research. It puts Tom Riddle not only in the role of an avenger but paints the picture of David versus Goliath, the later being the oppressive system.

The description how neutral people or opposition can be seduced to government side is very realistic. Parallel to the events in Fortius school, we accompany the Weasleys, Draco and Neville into Hogwarts. The see the Weasleys family straining and finally breaking torn by different opinions, differences in morality and willingness to take risks. It's intersting to see how different are the approaches towards the ministry - from open disobedience, hidden disregard, through neutrality and turning a blind eye, emigration to being a fervent supporter.

I have a problem to reconcile so much darkness and high stakes with child-soldiers brought up by the school. I wished the author aged up the protagonist to young adults, because their unprecedented level of powers, cunning and willingness to wipe out dozens if not whole armies breaks the suspension of disbelief. As much as Fortius school does not teach its pupils that wizards and muggles are not the same species, they indoctrinate students to be ready to fight and give all to the cause.

It terms of the characterization and development, Lupin takes the absolute first place. His transformation into feral, murderous werewolf contrasts so much with the canon, that is sends chills down the spine. It's the best written character in the whole story. Unfortunately I cannot say the same about minister Malfoy - he seems weak in comparison to Riddle and does not seem to be a worthy opponent. It's a pity that the author brought into the story another dark lord, diminishing Malfoy's role even more.

Overall it's a well-written, very original piece of work breaking with many fanons. Some editorial work would improve readability and pacing. It's definitely worth of your time!

Quand on constate les dégâts occasionnés par le climat, on s'interroge sur l'action du gouverneur de Floride pour que de tels intempéries s'abattent sur l'État qu'il est chargé de protéger !

En tant que gouverneur, il est responsable et doit être tenu comme tel, de ce qu'il se passe dans son secteur. De même pour Washington, la Floride constitue une part des États Unis dont il se porte garant, une part du secteur dont il est responsable...

Tous ces gens font un job mais il ne font manifestement pas le job, je suis même prêt à parier que bon nombre des sinistrés pensent qu'ils ne font même pas l'affaire !

Pour les assurances, les primes de risque augmentent au fil des catastrophes qui surviennent aux Etats Unis, il sera pour certains bientôt si ce n'est déjà le cas, plus possible de s'assurer.

De là à dire qu'on fait les poches des sinistrés, il n'y a qu'un pas que j'hésite à franchir.

Les responsables démissionnent et ne pense qu'à se racheter.

Les irresponsables refusent de démissionner et il sont coupables !

Il faut que cela cesse.

Voldemort wins, his opposition represented by Harry suggests a peace treaty allowing emigration of all the undesirables from the UK and cease fire. The purebloods' ideal country comes to fruition - free of muggleborns and half bloods and any kind of resistance.

The story is told from the perspective of Lucius Malfoys who reflects on the years after Voldemort's victory. Very soon the long-awaited glory days turns into nightmare and bitter disappointment. With emigration at massive scale, the magical Britain experiences drain on resources and human capital. The country slowly crumbles - infrastructure is in disrepair, there is not enough money going around, many products are sold out, there are no wizards left with certain skills. Additionally problems with fertility and magical powers only begin.

In his musing Lucius is worried about the continuity of his bloodline and overall deterioration of the worlds he knows. He recognizes the future looks bleak, yet not once does his question his ideals- about pureblood supremacy, alienating politics and dictatorship. He seems incapable of changing his views and puts all the blame of treaty that tricked him and the Dark Lord into unfavorable conditions.

The portrayal of reigning over ruins is striking - the author described very realistically the consequences of shortsightedness in politics and attempts at isolation in interconnected world. I am also glad that there no haphazard redemption arch - most of purebloods remain self-interested bigots.

The story also shows the power of vision, where one battle result does not determine the final outcome of war. Harry and the opposition will be the ultimate victors.
