On the Edge of Losing You
Tumblr media
Thank you @azrielshadowssing for organizing the Summer ACOTAR Writing Circle. This is my first time participating, and my first collab fic in general. I am thrilled to be kicking this off with my OTP, Feysand. Writers of part two and three, you are more than welcome to reuse the banner I created or make your own if you don’t like my theme.
Also a huge thanks to my beta readers, @deepsleep07 and @headcanonheadcase for the critique that really helped form this piece. Without further ado, I hope you all enjoy it!
Summary: Feyre and Tamlin are set to say their I dos on the beautiful beaches of Cancún. The problem—Feyre's wedding jitters have escalated to the revival of a crush on her best friend a few days before the wedding.
CW: None
Word Count: 3,318
Part 2 (@thegloweringcastle) // Part 3 (TBA) // Ao3
Chapter I: Do I Say I Do?
“Careful, Rhys. Someone might start thinking you have ill intentions.” He knew Feyre had sensed him the second he appeared on the surf, lingering a few feet from where she lounged in her beach chair that sat low to the ground, her long legs extended so her feet were cooled by the rising tide.
Haloed by the July sun wearing only her bikini she looked… He wasn’t ready to think about how Feyre looked. Not with that sun glinting off an emerald-topped engagement band she never took off. Not with her fiancé throwing a fit every time Rhys was within a ten mile radius of her. For someone who had secured an engagement and was beginning his vacation that preluded a disgustingly grand destination wedding, Tamlin failed to view Rhys as anything other than a threat.
He snagged a camping chair and set it so it sat parallel to hers and he wouldn’t have to get so low to the ground to join her. “You’re looking a bit pink already. You know you’re hopeless when it comes to tanning, don’t you?”
Her lips turned up into a small smile as she rose to a sitting position. “I took a dip earlier. And it’s been a few hours since I applied.”
He took the sunscreen bottle from the pocket of his chair and passed it to her. “No need to be burnt on your wedding day.”
Her eyes snapped back to him, the set of her mouth telling him she didn’t approve of the bitter note in his voice. “Rhys—”
“I know. He’s perfect and hasn’t shown any of the red flags I mentioned from the moment you met, right?”
“Rhys!” She was red-faced for an entirely different reason now. “You are my best friend, but it is not your place to worry about my marriage.” She took his hands in hers. “You are my best friend,” she repeated, “and he will be my husband in a matter of days. I want both of you in my life. But this tension between you has to be resolved.”
This tension. A kind way of putting Rhys’ loose tongue about all of the faults he saw in his best friend’s fiance. And Feyre, stubborn as she was, refused to listen to him this time. He didn’t want to control her. He just wanted her to see sense.
“Right. Call me when he doesn’t find a guy talking to you to be a criminal offense.”
“He’s protective,” she insisted, breaking eye contact as she rubbed the sunscreen into her arms. “There’s nothing wrong with protecting someone you love.” He opened his mouth to argue again. “I’m done with this, Rhys. We can speak pleasantly or you can leave.” She sighed, turning to bare her back to him as lifted her braid. “Help me with my back please.”
Fuck. After the conversation they just had about her “protective” fiancé? He really didn’t feel like dealing with the huffing and puffing today. “Feyre, seriously?”
“Oh stop it. It’s never been a problem before now. I always miss spots if I do it alone. If Tamlin’s your concern he won’t be back for a while. Even if he was, he’d see reason.” He didn’t think either of them really believed that. “It’s not a problem.”
No, it hadn’t been a problem. Then they'd gotten older and he found himself crushing on her. And that crush grew. They hit their teens and his sweet friend who was once all knees and elbows from too few meals was standing in her prom dress, taking his breath away.
His mother had made sure Feyre and her sisters were cared for when she saw the signs the Archeron family tried so hard to hide. Things got better, even if their father took it as an insult until the day he died. Their father’s feelings aside, they made friends and had food in their bellies. And Rhys bonded with all of them. But things had always run deeper with Feyre. Her older sisters teased and teased her for it as children, but there had never been anything to act on.
She had been objectively attractive, of course. More so than her sisters. But one doesn’t think that of their best friend. Rhys didn’t let himself think that way. Not until she came down those stairs on prom night. He could remember every detail, a girl of sixteen attending the school dance in his senior year. She was a vision in a gown of midnight blue and silver.
He finally saw her as a woman he hadn’t been able to look back since. Even after he graduated and the world pushed them apart for years on end. There had been other women, college flings and bar hookups. But none of them were Feyre.
Here they were at twenty-six and twenty-eight, both a little wiser and in control of their own lives. And the honest truth was he couldn’t focus on anything around her. If she hadn’t announced she was dating Tamlin six months ago, he might have acted on those growing feelings by now. Yet here they were, lounging on the private beach in Cancún with a whirlwind romance dropping Feyre at that altar. If she couldn’t see the timeframe as a red flag he didn’t think anything would change her mind.
“Rhys.”
Scanning the beach for the blond bastard, he obeyed, rubbing the sunscreen into her back as quickly as he could, trying very hard not to think about how he really wanted to run his hands over her. Slowly, not leaving an inch of skin unmapped. He shook the thought away. “There. You should be covered.”
“Thanks.” She offered him the bottle. “Need some?”
“Sure.” He came here to hang out, after all.
She leaned back in her chair again, folding one arm behind her head. “So, what took you so long to fly in?”
He chuckled. “Other than the fact I’m a full time professor in the height of summer courses, grading a buttload of essays for Astronomy 101? Some of those students…” He shook his head.
“Girls?” Feyre asked with a knowing smirk. He wasn’t sure he wanted to hear the rest of her assumption. “You’re the youngest teacher in the department, Rhys. They’re failing because they're staring at your pretty face instead of the whiteboard.”
He snorted, not ready to admit there had been a student or two who scrawled a ten digit number on the back of their final. “Yeah, well, flirting never got anyone an A.” He squeezed her hand. “I got here as fast as I could. Whatever disagreements I may have with Tamlin, you know I wouldn’t miss this. I said I’d be there for you through everything good and bad. This fits the bill.”
Even if he pictured himself on Tamlin’s side of the altar every time he saw the wedding invitation on his apartment’s fridge door. “I wanted to ask you—”
Before she could finish, a high-pitched squeal pierced the air. “About time! Get over here!”
Feyre jumped as white sand sprayed up onto her, clinging to the fresh sunscreen. “Mor, really!”
He saw a flash of blonde before his cousin was barreling into his arms, giggling maniacally. With her traveling so much it had been an age since they saw each other. It had been her dream to explore the best of life overseas and it seemed to do her some good. But then, any freedom must feel like heaven, growing up with a father like Kier. There were many days Rhys still ached to throttle his uncle for keeping Mor on such a tight leash. The stern hand his own father took seemed forgiving when his cousin finally opened up about everything in their early college days. Feyre had been the one to pry it out of her, simultaneously convincing Mor to lean on the found family who cared about her so much.
She was better for it now, bright-eyed and cheerful most days they talked in person or on a video chat. “Where’s Cassian and Az?” she asked. “They were here an hour ago.”
“Looking for some activities. You know it’s a crime asking men to just relax on the beach,” Feyre jested, picking up some sort of fruity cocktail she’d ordered. How she and Mor could tolerate them was beyond him. “This one’s only sitting here because he feels obligated to be nice to me.”
 He frowned. “You know that’s not true. I—”
“Rhysand.” He grimaced at the too-familiar voice behind him, ignoring Feyre’s glare and its silent demand that he keep playing nice. “So glad you could finally join us.” Though his gait could almost be considered casual, there was no denying he was once again using his own body as a barrier between Rhys and Feyre. “Enjoying your stay?”
“I just flew in, but I’m sure it will be a delight. Thank you for so graciously inviting me.”
“You’re very welcome.”
“If you two are finished,” Feyre groaned. “Rhys, can you walk with me for a minute? Just down the beach?”
Tamlin’s body locked, a vicious glare in his eyes aimed at Rhys. How could he turn the lady down now? “It would be my pleasure, Feyre darling.”
She smiled, reaching for her dark cover up, despite the lack of wind and the noon sun beating down. It wasn’t his place to comment on that. Even if he felt it very much was his place to characterize the man his best friend intended to spend the rest of her life sharing a home with.
Feyre was silent at first, watching the birds soaring ahead of them. He didn’t pry, waiting until she was ready to share what needed to be shared. “I love you. You’re my best friend.”
“Yes?”
She swallowed. “So much of this has been planned by… friends. I let things go, when it came to the technicalities of the wedding. Ianthe has been… helpful.” He suppressed a snort. Just days ago, Feyre had been moaning and groaning about how Tamlin’s old friend and apparent officiant couldn’t keep her nose in her own business. “I just…”
He paused, gently taking her hand and squeezing it. “Are things okay? Are you having doubts?”
“About marrying Tamlin? No. I’m just feeling off-kilter I guess. Caught up in a whirlwind of planning and out of control. I just want to hit the pause button and make my own choice on something, but I don’t even know the first thing I’d change. I need an anchor. Something they haven’t thought of yet.”
He furrowed his brow. “And you think I can help?”
“Yes. Before Tamlin sticks it on Lucien or something. I don’t want anyone’s feelings hurt.” He cocked his head. “I don’t have my father anymore. And even if I did… things were strained when I got older. And then he died before things could mend. Rhys, would you walk me down the aisle?”
And if that wasn’t a punch to the gut.
He cast a nervous look over his shoulder. “Feyre, are you sure?”
She nodded, lacing her fingers through his. “It’ll be fine, Rhys. He knows I want you in my life. I know things will get better for you two. And I should have some say in my own wedding, shouldn’t I?”
“Of course, but…” He shook his head. He couldn’t and wouldn’t try to stop the wedding. Feyre was smart. She had to know Tamlin well enough to feel safe if she had agreed to marry him. So he would step aside. He would do this one last thing for her, even if he broke his own heart in the process. “I’d be honored, Feyre.”
~~~~~
“You did what?”
She sighed as she opened the door to the bathroom. “Tamlin, you said you were going to try. You aren’t trying. Not even slightly.”
“That arrogant piece of—”
“My best friend, you mean?”
He let out a huff. “Rhysand,” he hissed, “has no place walking you down the aisle. That’s—”
“That’s whose job, Tamlin? Certainly not my father’s any longer. Or did you expect Lucien who I’ve known for a matter of a few months to do it? Rhys and Mor and Cassian and Az will always be my family. They aren’t going anywhere, no matter how many fits you throw about it.”
“Your sisters are an option, of course.”
“Tamlin, don’t. What’s done is done. On our wedding day Rhys will be my escort. And you will keep your mouth shut about it and keep a smile on your face.”
“You have other friends, Feyre. You and Ianthe get along well.”
“Oh do we? I’m sure you know my feelings so well when it comes to tolerating her.” He reared back. “Ianthe will keep batting her eyes and paying compliments as long as you let her leech off of you, Lucien hasn’t even tried to hug me because you probably threatened to cut his arms off for doing so. Tamlin, you will stop this overbearing asshole behavior or I will not marry you.”
Faster than she could react, he lunged, red-faced and wild-eyed. His grip on her arm was bruising. While she was all fired up and ready to lay things out he had been stewing with every word. “I am doing what’s best for you,” he snarled. And that was the wake up call.
God, had Rhys been right? Was it taking the cogs turning just days before her wedding to see the red flags as Rhys called them?
“You are trying to control me. And I will not let you. Now let me go.” Seemingly in a daze, he uncurled his hand from around her wrist, the pale print from his hand beginning to pinken again. “I’ll be back later.”
“Feyre.”
“I said I’ll be back,” she snapped, shoving her feet into her flip-flops. “Do not follow me and do not send Lucien like some hound on my trail. I need some space.”
One thing. She asked one thing of this wedding and it was that her best friend be more than another name on the absurdly long guest list. What a crime it was. Down where the beach started to soften, she removed her shoes, letting the sand sift through her toes. Minutes or miles she walked with nothing more than her thoughts and a nocturnal choir around her. While the silence might have bothered most, She had always found peace in a quiet night.
Feyre sank to the sand, leaning back on her hands and tilting her head to view the sky above her. She was lucky the busy lights were on the other side of the resort. Here on their side, even with the light pollution day and night she had a chance to enjoy the star-flecked unknown. She was hopeless to identify constellations without her favorite astronomy professor of course, but they were still pretty to look at alone.
“You can see Lupus from here.” She jumped slightly, whipping her head over her shoulder. “Sorry if I startled you. Can I sit with you?” Rhys asked.
“Always.” She sat up so they could sit shoulder to shoulder and he reached for her hand, frowning when she jolted away and rubbed it instinctively. The tenderness there scared her more than she wanted to admit. And Rhys was staring. “What?”
“What’s wrong with your hand?”
“Nothing.”
“Feyre.”
“Rhys.”
“I know you too well to fall for your lies.” She bit her lip, casting her eyes to the ground, only looking back up when he gave a heavy sigh. “Ara.”
“What?”
“Ara, it’s almost straight ahead. And there’s Corvus there.”
“You’re speaking Latin to me.” He snorted at the frankly terrible joke, nudging her shoulder good-naturedly. She slumped against him, exhaustion taking over. “You’re going to have to carry me back,” she mumbled. “In the morning.” He tensed beside her. “I can’t go back there tonight. It would just be weird.”
“Why?” She shrugged. “Feyre.”
“He doesn’t like you.”
His lip curled slightly against her head. “I think I’ll survive.”
“We were fighting over it. You. All of you. He has his bubble, and if he can’t control the people in it… I didn’t realize how deep it ran until I told him you would give me away. I’ve never seen him so…”
The word hung between them as he reached for her wrist again. She wondered if it would bruise by morning. If Ianthe would try to dab a bit of powder over it before Mor showed up and had a cow. Feyre didn’t know what she would do at that point.
“He’s been stressed lately. Between the wedding and work and—”
“Do not make excuses for him.” The edge in his voice put a new heaviness between them. “Do not pretend this is okay, Feyre. You want to know why you’ve never seen him so violent? It’s because cowards like that need control to feel they hold the power. That they’re worth something. He let you speak your mind this long to make sure he had you for good, but the second you say ‘I do’ everything is going to change.”
If Tamlin’s anger was the strike of a storm, Rhys’ was the deadly calm before it. Chilled as death even as those violet eyes glinted against the moon. He twisted in the sand, cupping her face and pressing his brow to hers, as he had done so many times to calm her from her panic. This time he needed that calm.
“Do not make excuses. Do not wait for that stress to go away. And Feyre, please do not marry a man who will free his temper the moment you kiss him on that altar.”
She twisted her lower body to face him fully, stroking a hand over the short stubble at his jaw. It had started as a teasing touch when he was just old enough to start growing facial hair, later a habit she couldn’t resist maintaining. Until she met Tamlin and all the fond habits and touches earned scowls and glares. That hand teasing his stubble rose to run through his hair, a touch to sooth. It still seemed to work.
“All I’m saying is that six months is awfully fast for a wedding,”
“Oh, is that all you’re saying, Rhys?”
She pulled at his hair slightly and his eyes fluttered open again. If she didn’t know better, she would say  time had turned back for them. They were kids again and he was taking her to his senior prom, despite her only being a sophomore.  Coming home from the dance she’d joked on her front porch that they were at the point where he was supposed to kiss her goodnight.
She’d been the typical sixteen year old, crushing on a senior. Except that senior was her best friend. Romantically off limits was an unspoken rule of friendship to them, no matter what their friends and family thought. But for a moment—one fraction of a second—the world paused, giving her a glimpse of a boy that wanted to kiss her back.
She never saw that boy again.
Until now.
Days before her wedding he was staring at her like she hung the moon. Like she was the only thing keeping his world turning, as ludicrous as that seemed. But god, she wanted someone to want every part of her that badly. Looking into his eyes now, she realized all of the things she’d been compromising.
“Feyre, what are you doing?” Her hands slid down to cup his face. “Feyre.”
Every moral she had was screaming for her to stop. She was an engaged woman and kissing her teenage crush could be the biggest mistake of her life. And yet the devil on her shoulder spurred her on.
And Feyre listened, kissing Rhys for the first time. Only the stars could damn her tonight.
Also let's not forget that Sara was a huge shipper of Mor/Az until she chose her character to be queer—Az as far as we know, he has always shown romantic interest for Mor and nothing else for a very long timeeeeee.
For her he would sacrifice his sanity and rationality to protect her—Az is not a soft baby, yes he's polite but let's remember this man can murder you without any second thoughts—I'll be scared as hell of him.
Do you want to pair this type of man to the sweetest girl in the planet? And yes I know the appeal of the bad boy and good girl-they look good aestethycally but nothing else, maybe if Elain was shown to have at least..a bolder side(not sexually but the personality) a dark side maybe I could give them a try but I like femenine and gentle characters☺
Come on you prefer Az over Lucien—the sexiest man in the world, a gentle man, HE HAS FIRE IN HIS BLOOD(THE AUTHOR IS FORESHADOWING😏🤭) and he's a bad boy in a sense( this man is a flirt, he's sassy and A GENTLEMAN, his loyalty has no bounds) that would never ask Elain to change for him, maybe she would become more confident by his side and El can make him feel relaxed because this boy hasn't known peace for A VERY LONG TIME.
Honestly they are my OTP😆😆😆..they are so unique and original..of Nessian, Feysand and El/riel 's dynamics I've read so many that I've got BOREDDDDD.
Everyone says all three sisters ending up with their Mates is cliche but what is more cliche is all three sisters developing ocassionally dark, vengeful personalities to make them a match for their dark, brutal warrior Illyrian males. You're so right, E/riel would be more of the same and it would be redundant coming from yet another Archeron sister. Nesta can be dark when it comes to her enemies and Cassian isn't even the darkest of the Bat Boys, Azriel is. So if Elain were to end up with him, would it make sense that she's almost the complete opposite of Nesta? How does that work? Az's spy sessions do lead to torture sessions and people truly think Elain is going to be right there beside him for that? Staying in a court as a member of the IC where Feyre has already stated she only looks at Elain as a "pleasant companion" even after they'd grown closer? Lucien and Elain don't need to change anything about who they are to be a match for one another. Sure they'll grow, they'll learn to stand up for themselves as individuals. But they are naturally suited to one another and there's no mental twister going on to make them fit together. Not to mention the diversity they bring to the series, where not every single main character is about training and being a warrior and getting revenge against all those who have wronged them through the most painful of ways possible. And they both deserve to find their people, the ones who look at them as the most important part of their lives rather than an afterthought.
rank your favorite acotar ships?
1. Elucien! My number one! My loves! The epitome of a slow burn. Of a courtly romance. The otp!
2. Feysand. I don't feel as passionate about them as I once did, but I'll always love them for how I used to love them you know. Acomaf Feysand were so good!
And that's about it tbh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ all the other ships I'm kinda neutral/indifferent about/like but don't feel any real passion for them OR straight up don't like
1 through 10 for the salty asks <3
1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?*
Rowaelin. I’m sorry I just don’t see the appeal with Rowan at all. I have tried but he and Rowaelin do nothing for me.
2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?*
Main ones are Malina and Theon x Sansa - I just don’t see it romantically but I do enjoy their friendship. I’m also starting to feel this way about Gwynriel too 🤷🏻‍♀️
3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?
Yes and I’ve blocked them. I usually give people a few chances, but if they keep posting stuff that annoys me I have no problem unfollowing and blocking.
4. Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?*
i have so many but the ones that genuinely make my skin crawl and jon/sa, el/riel, ner/is and sn/ape x her/mione.
5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?*
I mean I never shipped el/riel but I could have been ok with it. but then all the post acowar shit went down in the fandom.
6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?*
Yes! I still don’t like Rowaelin or Feysand but there have been fics and fanart that has made me briefly reconsider those ships. Malina also has had some really good edits!
And then not ship related, but smtb has got me dumping over Eris 😊
8. Have you received anon hate? What about?*
Never, because I am a perfect angel who always right 😇 lmao jk. Not recently, but years ago one one of my old blogs I used to get anon hate all the time because of shipping, mostly bc of hp ship wars.
9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?
There’s so many, I actually am drawing a blank lol. I really hate the “secretly good guy trope” so fucking much. So it’ really shouldn’t be a surprise that I hate Sn/ape, Er/is and Rh/ys. I actually really liked Rhys in Acotar until under the mountain when he started helping Feyre and then I was like ugh BORING!
I also hate Dean and Logan from Gilmore Girls, fuck those guys.
10. Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?*
HP really and everything related to it. Just talking about it in this ask made me angry.
Gwynriel - I have so many mixed feelings about that ship, but the ship war has really made me hate them - the ship and Azriel, never Gwyn she is my angel baby.
Lysaedion - for reasons completely unrelated to the books or fandom. One of my friends made a comment about Aedion years ago and I haven’t been able to look at him the same way since.
Star Wars - I recently unblocked the tag and started positing about it again, but I honestly the last Jedi left such a bad taste in my mouth, I’m still bitter about it.
When it all goes to hell...when there are none of us left...
Don't, I begged him. Don't say it.
I want you to run. I don't care what it costs. You run. Get far away, and live to fight another day. You don't look back.
I began to shake my head,
You said no goodbyes.
So, not going to lie, I was not a fan of Nesta before this book. The way I've copied with trials in my life is taking on the role of caregiver and peacekeeper, so I genuinely couldn't relate with the way she would lash out and intentionally hurt others to push them away. And there's no judgement, I get that this was the way she coped with her trauma and I didn't hate her character, but I wasn't very attached.
But to be able to watch this journey of how she clawed her way out of the darkness and emptiness she was trapped in was so empowering. How she was able to look at her past choices and mistakes frankly and make conscience choices to grow from them. This book honestly made me reevaluate my own trauma, and how I need to address it.
Like Cass said by the lake, it's not how you need to fix yourself, it's how you need to help yourself.
And like Gwyn said, your stories are worth telling.
So many pure moments I'm tearing up just thinking about them, goodness.
And this was 100% Nesta's journey. How she overcame her self-destruction, learned to utilize her best qualities, and build a rich life for herself and all the others who needed healing (I'm fangirling over the Valkyries So. Much. The entire Blood Rite had me screaming. The most supportive group of women I have ever encountered. My heart genuinely can't take it).
And you could see how Nesta took complete ownership of the choices she needed to make to help herself, with the support of her loved ones, but not dependent on them. Which was refreshing, considering many characters' journeys to healing are codependent to some degree.
I went into this book more excited to live in the world of Prythian again than to see this specific story, and I was definitely proven wrong.
So thank you, Sarah J. Mass, for write one heck of a redemption story.
And not Nesta's redemption for the others, but the redemption she needed to give herself.
39. Avoiding the mistletoe at all costs, however, everyone is trying their best to get the otp there.
From the Christmas prompts, for Feysand. I lovee your writing
I love you nonny! I'm still in drabble mode as I avoid feeling anything this holiday season. here we are its not edited even though i am on my laptop again. hehehe...
...
"Merry Christmas!" Mor screeched into Feyre's ear the second she'd walked through the door.
Feyre staggered as Mor nearly knocked her over. The blonde was always one for giving affection and the holidays (combined with copious amounts of alcohol) merely enhanced the trait.
"How much have you had to drink?" Feyre chuckled as she pried herself from her friends arms.
"I'm the hostess, I've drunk half the bar," Mor said matter-of-factly. She swept Feyre into the apartment that was already full of people and decorations streaming from every corner of the kitchen and living-room.
Chuckling, Feyre accepted a glass of something sure to be brimming with alcohol.
She really hadn't expected anything of the holidays. Ever since her parent's deaths she and her sisters had blissfully ignored this time of the year. Until Feyre had met Mor. And Mor loved the holidays. She loved family. She loved giving gifts. Everything.
It was a miracle that she and Feyre ended up being friends.
"Stand right here," Mor ordered, "I'm gonna get you another drink. You have to catch up."
Rolling her eyes, Feyre sipped on her drink and tried to let herself settle into the mood of being around people. It wouldn't be so bad--Alis was here and there was Emerie who had recently started dating Mor.
She made a step to go talk with Alis when the giant hulking form of Cassian sidled up to her.
"Feyre!" he yelled as he threw an arm around her to keep her close. "You made it!"
"Hey Cass," she chuckled. She made to move away but Cassian kept her close.
"I thought you weren't coming," he said. And Feyre knew he was at least three drinks into the night. She wondered vaugely if Nesta would made an appearance and how that would change his demeanor.
"Mor threatened me," Feyre said honestly.
Again she tried to slip away but Cassian's hold held firm. It wasn't that her friend made her uncomfortable. The opposite really, Cassian had a way of making her feel like one of the family. A feeling that she had always earned for.
"How's work going?" Cassian asked. Feyre cocked her head, it was a strange question. Usually the first thing out of his mouth was something about Nesta.
"It's fine," Feyre said, "Beron's making everything miserable.
"Bastard," Cassian agreed.
The front door opened again and Feyre caught sight of the one person Feyre had been dreading to see. Rhysand. The man that she had many a strange run-ins with. He was a few years older than her and for some reason Feyre'd always been infatuated with him. Granted he was tall, tanned skin, violet eyes, and cheek bones.
But he was also arrogant, pig-headed, and stubborn.
Again, Feyre eased away from Cassian, but before he could stop her she'd made it a few steps away to talk with Emerie.
Anything to get away a potential run in with Rhys. Because she always made a fool of herself in front of him. Despite how much he annoyed her on most occasions, she was always infatuated.
Emerie talked about her little shop where she sold trinkets and goodies to tourists to Valeris, exclaiming more than once that she'd needed to find a helper for the holidays.
Every so often Emerie grabbed her arm keeping Feyre in place while they spoke.
When Rhysand made his way over to them, being dragged by Mor, Feyre slipped away to find Tarquin.
And so it continued for another hour.
When Feyre finally found a moment of peace, she'd imagined that she managed to sulk way without anyone left to disturb her.
"You're avoiding me." Rhysand managed to sneak up beside her, nearly causing Feyre to spill her second (third?) drink of the night.
She met his violet eyes. Okay, maybe she was. But with someone as attractive as him who she'd known for years, who she would admit to having a small (giant) crush on--all Feyre could do was avoid.
"Maybe I like being social and talking to people," she said.
Rhys snorted a laugh. "Like hell."
Rolling her eyes, Feyre took a long sip of her drink. Crap, this might actually be her fourth drink.
"Why so desperate to talk to me?" she asked. "I thought I''m too stubborn for your tastes."
He smirked and was about to say something when Mor popped up, phone in hand.
"Gotcha!" Mor yelled. She kept her phone trained on Rhys and Feyre. "Look up!"
Feyre felt a bit of dread roiling in her stomach as she looked up. Dangling from a string was a giant wad of mistletoe. And, as Feyre looked around, she found several other bunches of mistletoe handing throughout the apartment.
Hell. Feyre knew she shouldn't have told Mor about the stupid crush on Rhys.
When she looked over at Rhys she found him looking at her a spark in his eyes.
"You gotta kiss, those are the rules," Mor reminded them.
Cassian howled and ran over, his own phone in hand too. "Kiss, kiss, kiss!"
Rhysand quirked a brow and Feyre scowled. Then before either of them could think too much about it, Feyre surged on her tip toes and caught Rhys' lips with hers.
She meant it to be something quick. Something light. Something easy and noncommittal. But the second their mouths collided Feyre felt that spark shooting through each of her nerves. When Feyre made to pull away, Rhys' arms wrapped around her pulling her tighter against the hard contours of his body.
Well. This was delightful.
Feyre found her self melting against him and deciding that this was a fine way to spend the holiday.
Amid catcalls and hoots of laughter, Feyre and Rhys finally parted--much to her chagrin.
"Merry Christmas," Rhys murmured.
She quirked a smile and chuckled. "You're still an ass."
Rhys laughed and rolled his eyes before pulling her in for another kiss.
Right so 16 for Elucien, 4 for Gwynriel, 21 for Nessian and 14 for Feysand. Besos reina, hope you are having a lovely day!!!
16) Who is more seductive when they are drunk? and who is louder in bed?
I always picture Elain as a very giggly drunk so I definitely see Lucien as the more seductive one when drunk. He's very suave sober, imagine him drunk. As for who is louder in bed...Elain. Once she's comfortable exploring what she likes and has that sexual awakening courtesy of Lucien's firedick, she is very vocal and Lucien loves it. Lucien is a talk low and dirty kind of guy. He can bring her to the edge with whispers.
4) Who likes to walk around the house naked and who tells the other to go put some clothes on?
This one is a little hard because I can't really see either of them doing this often as they are private people but between Gwyn and Az...Gwyn HAHA. Once she's become more comfortable with her body and having an intimate relationship with Azriel, she gives this man zero breaks. He's hoarsely begging her to please put clothes on so he can function...she keeps reading her book and giving him information about the text he definitely didn't ask for.
21) Who cuts the others hair?
Nesta trims Cassian's hair. He loves her hair too much to risk ruining it by trying to cut it.
14) Who starts the hand holding? Who grabs the others butt? Who slides their arm around their waist? Who likes to put their fingers in the belt loops?
Yo, Feyre starts the hand-holding and Rhys is a lost little s i m p. Feyre puts her fingers in his belt loops to pull him closer to her but between the two of them, Rhys is much more touchy-feely of the two. He's touching her butt, he's wrapping his arms around her, and constantly putting his hands on her.
thank you for your ask bby! I hope you're having a wonderful day my love <3
pick an otp and send me some important otp questions
Master Post of things I wanted to post while reading ACOSF- mostly humour/ crack lol (Spoilers... Duh...)
First, general opinion: I liked the book generally. I knew it would be very Feysand friendly and I was prepared for that. Not my first choice but I get it. I really had to take a few hours off with the whole hiking scene. That really fucked with me to see Cassian so pissed and militant despite already knowing where Nesta was coming from and how betrayed she felt (ESPECIALLY once I learned that he had guessed they were mates already). I know that self loathing was a major theme but I do think it was laid on a little too thick for too long. I also think there was so much Nessian interaction when things were angsty and then when they were happy I was just WAITING for that full chapter of soft happiness and I feel like a lot of that got lost to Nesta’s relationship with her sister. Above everything though I gotta say that it BREAKS MY HEART that Cassian never actUlly says I love you to Nesta at any point in the book. I know it’s meant to be that he’s always loved her and it’s his actions that show it etc etc but it’s still kind of a blow for him to never say it... never even outright think it in his own perspective (go back and look the closest he gets is saying he’s acting like a lovesick puppy. We only get to see Cassian loving Nesta from her perspective as she realizes it which I get and is beautiful but maybe ONE DECLERATION THANKS). Anyway, I am hoping that opportunity arises in future books. Although.... I don’t think I will read the future books. Maybe I will, but honestly this was just SO MUCH. Like... I think there was too much in the book. Each of these quests could have been its own book and I was happy to keep going because I’m obsessed with Nesta, but I just don’t think I’d be interested enough in the other characters to read something so convoluted again (like I’m sorry the blood rite started with basically 100 pages left that is WILD). It was also so clear that so much of this book was setup for future books and that’s fine but it was kinda messy just being honest. ANYWAY onto more specific thoughts/ jokes:
Chapter 2:
Cassian: I just hope that Nesta knows we are doing this for her benefit, because we care.
Feyre: I don’t care this shit ends now. I’m burning your apartment to the ground.
Also Cassian: *Let’s Nesta fall down a flight of stairs*; *calls Nesta pathetic every day*; *tells Nesta everyone hates her*; *walks around slamming doors all pissy as if he’s the one being held captive*
Chapter 11:
Nesta:Rhysand is an asshole
Me:
Tumblr media
Cassian: well everyone fucking hates you
Me:
Tumblr media
The way that Cassian thinks about Russet Potato is just straight up not healthy. Like I get looking up to a sibling or whatever but I’m starting to think that Rhys is Cassian’s one true love. Cassian being THAT blind to every one of Rhysand’s flaws is a character flaw of his own. Even Feyre isn’t THAT blind.
Chapter 11 Pt 2:
Nesta from day one: I’m not training in that camp. I hate that camp. I’m not training there. Fuck that camp
Cassian: this is because you hate me, isn’t it?
Me:
Tumblr media
Like I’m sorry did we really need Feyre to show up to help him crack that code???
Chapter 10 (and beyond):
My OTP? Nesta and the House of Wind.
It’s a solid enemies to lovers story (chapter 6 she says even the house hates her then later it’s her only friend and ally. Great love story.)
It reveals its heart to her before Cassian does
It knows what she needs
Gave her water on the steps instead of watching her fall down them
Pushes Nesta gently by keeping the fire so Cassian can see that she is afraid and haunted instead of empty and broken. Encourages her to go to dinner with people by barring the library but doesn’t FORCE her to go. The house does not judge her.
Spoils her and is silly with her while she has her sleepover.
Takes an active interest in something important to her and shares one of her hobbies
Side note- this book even has me pissed at the IC about how they treated a damn house!! Like how dare they say no one likes going there! How dare they be so rude to my new #1 favorite book character??? The house just wants to give you cake and books and run you a bath. Perfect partner IMO.
Chapter 17:
Me when Cassian does the bare fucking minimum and tells Rhys to calm the fuck down and stop threatening to kill Nesta:
Tumblr media
Chapter 21:
When Rhys said that Nesta always has a choice here I said, out loud, “that’s fucking rich rice ball”. My dog looked up. That’s all.
Chapter 21 (and beyond) pt 2:
Prythian: mating bonds are very rare
Archeron sisters: survey says that was a lie
Prythian: fae fertility is very difficult. Conceiving can take decades
Archeron sisters: survey says that too was a lie
Prythian: No High Fae can survive the birth of an Illyrian winged baby
Archeron sisters: once again, the survey is not on your side here
Chapter 42:
Rhys: this is a bad idea
Cassian: that should be written on the Night Court’s crest
Me, wine glass raised to mouth, scoff more bitter than necessary: yeah it Fucken should”
Chapter 42 pt 2:
Yknow I was genuinely shocked by one thing in ACOSF. I was shocked that Rhysand and I agree on something.
He absolutely fucking shouldn’t be High King.
The mere SUGGESTION that Nesta’s power and fight and trauma and depression and war and entire FUCKING STORY has all been so that Rice cake and French fry can be a high king and queen literally set my blood BOILING at exactly the point in the book that I was starting to VIBE
Side note- Can we please just Fucken stop with the stars blinking in and out of existence in Rhys’ eyes. Like calm down. Rice pilaf has purple night eyes we get it. Just like... simmer please.
Chapter 46:
I GET that it shouldn’t have come out like that and that Nesta’s reasons weren’t right, but get ABSOLUTELY FUCKED RHYSAND for thinking that it is your right to HIDE THE DANGERS OF LABOUR FROM A WOMAN WHO DOES NOT KNOW YOUR SPECIES!!! This had me truly wildin and I think it was a disservice to Feyre’s character too that she didnt lose it more.
Chapter 55 (and earlier):
Cassian: *bows to death as Nesta emerges from the black depths on a throne to rule her undead armies*
Cassian: *watches bleeding as Nesta plucks the harp and wields her Made sword of death to murder Lanthys and claim the ability to stop time itself*
Nesta: So, now I go after the crown
Cassian:
Tumblr media
Chapter 57 (and earlier):
Kelpie: You shall be my bride before you are my meal
Helion: *rides enchanted horse up to shoot his second shot with Nesta*
Lanthys: Tries to seduce Nesta into being his Queen even as he attempts to kill her
Eris: I’ll give you anything in exchange for Nesta as my bride
Cassian watching every male being in the universe trying to get with his mate:
Tumblr media
Chapter 60:
Emerie: we’re not entering the blood rite, are we?
Cassian: Only if you want to
Brialynn:
Tumblr media
Chapter 80:
Nesta: *Saves Cassian’s life in the war*
Rhys: I still hate you and will never forgive you for what you did in not hunting as a child.
Nesta: saves Feyre and Nyx
Rhys: I bow before no one and nothing but my crown and now I shall fall to my knees before you oh mighty saviour queen of all
Side note- can someone please compile a list of all the things that Nesta Archeron had done/retrieved/gone through for the Nigh Court because that shit is astronomical at this point and I really need everyone to start sipping their Respect Nesta Archeron Juice RIGHT FUCKING NOW!!!
Anyway I’m emotionally wrecked but shoutout to anyone who made it this far into my ramblings!
my opinion on every sjm ship that nobody asked for but here it is anyway
doraelin-oh I wanted this to happen so bad. they were absolutely adorable but when celaena ended it I was like eh ok time to move on
choalena-I liked it in the beginning but when nehemiah died this ship died. and twas the beginning of my hatred for chaol
rowaelin-i really like them and I think their scenes are really cute but they’ve never been a favorite of mine and I think that’s because I don’t love rowan. but he makes my girl happy so 🤷‍♀️
dorian x sorsha- could not care less. sorsha had 0 impact on me
manorian-I don’t like dorian and manon doesn’t need a man. so while they are a hot couple I don’t see them as endgame
choal x nesryn-again could not care less. nesryn has never been a strong character to me and they had no chemistry
choarene-I have very mixed feelings about this one. they have a really beautiful story and are super cute but I really don’t like choal and I was just trying to rush through this book to get to kingdom of ash
nesryn x sartaq-“he loved her since he heard her name” bitch please. this couple is fine ig. it just feels so flat
elorcan-I would have liked it more if lorcan had a better personality. them traveling together is cute but I just can’t get passed lorcan especially when elide is an absolute goddess
lysaedion-I fucking hate aedion. and him calling lysandra a bitch ruined the ship. lysandra deserves the world and aedion is no where close to good enough.
feylin-burn in hell please😁
feysand-I love them so damn much. acomaf is my favorite sjm book ever. they are perfection idc what anyone else says
nessian-somewhere between love and like. so much hot chemistry and acosf is my second favorite sjm book
moriel-would have been so good if mor wasn’t queer. so much angst but sadly sjm ruined mor
emorie-I love the potential
gwynriel-probably my otp between feysand, kanej and this. I am obsessed with their potential. the banter. yes. the chemistry. yes. the everything. yes
e/riel-this makes me want to gouge my eyes out but y’all already know that
elucien-I think their potential and fanon is much better than their canon scenes. I don’t like elain, I don’t love lucien, and I hate soft couples. so currently I’m kind of indifferent
hellion x lady a-anything with hellion is perfect
eris x guy-in my mind eris will always be gay
bryce x conner-didn’t care
bryce x danika-could have been epic. any other writer would have done this
quinlar-fucking love. the betrayal hurt but I want them to be endgame so badly
bryce x aidas-ew. stop. we don’t need a rhys 2.0 we already have eris. just gross man. I don’t judge but I definitely judge if you ship this
juniper x fury-I love it
hypaxia x ruhn-don’t have enough of them to form an opinion. and I don’t like ruhn
A word of advice...
This is something that has recently come up and I was originally not going to address it but it has become such a problem that it really gets on my nerves.
I mean, I get it.
We all have different perspectives and we all have our individual likes and dislikes but it's getting a bit out of hand.
The ACOTAR fandom has many different opinions and there's nothing wrong with that. The problem only arises when people start hating on others and disrespecting their opinions.
We all have our favorite characters and ships, whether it be Rhys, Nesta, Feyre or Azriel or anyone else. We all have our pairings and we all have different views regarding this and that's okay.
What's not okay is when you start bashing other people for their individual opinions.
You're a Nesta stan? Great! Don't bash Rhys/Feyre.
You're a Rhys stan? Don't go off on Nesta stans.
You ship Elriel? You ship Gwynriel? Elucien? Brilliant! BUT DO NOT START WARS WITH OTHER PEOPLE WHO DON'T SHIP THE SAME CHARACTERS.
We all have our favorites, we all have our reasons to like/dislike them and we should respect that.
Ask yourself: How would you feel if someone started bashing on your faves? Would you like it?
And I understand... I truly do. We have a tendency to protect and defend our favorite characters and that's normal! But just remember to stay in line and not insult others' preferences in the process.
Sharing two stark different opinions is absolutely okay. It's great, even. But once the conversation starts to become aggressive and insults are being flung around then it's time to stop, backtrack, and leave the conversation before it gets out of hands and all are feelings get hurt.
Personally...
I love Rhys. I love Feysand. But I also like Nesta, I love the idea of Nessian. I absolutely love Azriel. Elain. Mor. Amren. Cassian. I love the entire IC and Gwyn and Emerie.
And I want to express my love for them but it's difficult when others always try to bash them. It's tiresome. I don't want to get into fights, I don't want to start meaningless wars. But just please respect other's opinions.
Some of us use hashtags to promote our hate as well which I find really... confusing?
For example: If I search up #feysand fanfic there are multiple posts on anti feyre/anti rhys/anti feysand. And it's just so confusing and honestly, a nuisance because here I am, minding my own business, wanting to relax with a bit of feysand content but what do I find? Hate. A shit ton of hate.
And it baffles me, is all. Those hashtags are created to be used to spread creativity and other's writing. To be used for others with the same views, so that they could easily find the content they're looking for.
But instead all we find is hate, hate and more hate.
This goes out to all fans:
It doesn't matter if you ship Feysand, Nessian, Gwynriel, Elriel, Elucien or WHOEVER! But do NOT start bashing others and belittling others for their own preferences.
Spread positivity, not hate. Respect other's opinions. Start a chat, get to know others with different views.
You may not like the character, they may not be your otp. You don't have to really understand why others like them but you DO have to respect their opinions.
I can not stress this enough.
Which TS songs remind you of the different couples in SJM’s books???
Boy do I ??
You are a blessed soul for asking me this, and know that I adore you.
There is now a part II to this.
Feysand:
Begin Again: “I've been spending the last eight months Thinking all love ever does Is break and burn, and end But on a Wednesday in a cafe I watched it begin again” Baby Feyre finding that love is not toxic, that love is supportive, that love can be wonderful. “You said you never met one girl who had As many James Taylor records as you But I do” but think of is as “he said he never met a girl who wasn’t afraid of his power, but i do”. Also also “Walked in expecting you'd be late But you got here early and you stand and wave I walk to you” because Feyre’s used to T*mlin’s mediocre ass but Rhys surprised her by being a decent human and treating her with respect, which makes her realize that she was starved for respect and that T*mlin was not giving her what every decent human being should get from the get go from their partner.
Ivy: Feyre slowly falling in love with Rhys, thinking about Rhys in the Spring Court between Night Court visits Also throughout ACOMAF how she battles with her ever growing feelings for the Lord of the Night, while feeling guilty about T*mlin, because they *just broke up*: “Oh, goddamn My pain fits in the palm of your freezing hand Taking mine, but it's been promised to another Oh, I can't Stop you putting roots in my dreamland My house of stone, your ivy grows And now I'm covered in you” and “I wish to know The fatal flaw that makes you long to be Magnificently cursed He's in the room Your opal eyes are all I wish to see He wants what's only yours”.
End game: I can practically see Rhys singing this in the shower thinking about Feyre, when she decided to work with him and him thinking like “YES THIS HAS TO BE A SIGN”. His reputation precedes him and in rumours he’s knee deep, him and Feyre would be a big conversation, he has enemies, he has heard about her and she has heard about him. He thinks “she’s so dope that he might overdose”. She’s been calling his bluff on all his usual tricks so here’s the truth from his red lips!!!!!
Dress: “Even in my worst times, you could see the best in me Flashback to my mistakes My rebounds, my earthquakes Even in my worst lies, you saw the truth in me And I woke up just in time Now I wake up by your side My one and only, my lifeline”. Need I say more? I think not your honor.
Call it what you want: “I said you don’t need to save me, but would you run away with me?” That’s Feyre’s whole arc, I rest my case.
Nessian: the happiness I feel about the fact that these two are together is just enough to make me smile on a Monday
False God - The song literally opens up saying “We were crazy to think Crazy to think that this could work Remember how I said I'd die for you” HELLOOOO?? NESTA THINKING ABOUT THAT SCENE IN ACOWAR?? but also feeling that she’s unworthy of Cassian and that there is no way in hell that he will love her with all that she is.
Don’t Blame Me - The power of this song lies in the I unapologetic- powerful-full on I give myself to you and I will do it over and over again energy it has. And this is the energy that Nesta has for Cassian (even when homegirl really tries to pretend otherwise lol boo you tried). The “through your love I found salvation” religious aspect of Don’t blame me is Nesta, because through Cassian’s love and presence she found the perspective she needed on herself. Also this book was a religious experience for me. Jesus fuck.
Sparks Fly: From Cassian to Nesta, with love. First of all Cassian would be a diehard swiftie (all of the bat boys for that matter, merch a the concert, what will we do if we get invited to the rep room?? fans. Az woud be like the quiet yet “no, speak one ill word of Taylor and that’s your end, she did nothing wrong she was framed and I have evidence”). Second of all “The way you move is like a full on rainstorm And I'm a house of cards You're the kind of reckless that should send me running But I kinda know that I won't get far” That’s him alright, that’s him knowing that Nesta is a force to be reckoned with and he wants nothing nothing but to be in that storm and live within the force of nature that she is. Thirdly “My mind forgets to remind me, your a bad idea You touch me once and it's really something You find I'm even better than you, imagined I would be I'm on my guard for the rest of the world But with you I know its no good And I could wait patiently But I really wish you would”
Elucien: This is an Elucien blog.
Lover - In all honesty wanted to give this song to Feysand, because they are my main otp and this song is the highest of the high from Taylor, but I can’t deny the fact that this song screams Elucien. “With every guitar string scar on my hand” I think is a beautiful parallel for Elain and gardening, “My heart’s been borrowed, and yours has been blue” this speaks of Gr*yson and Jesminda, “I loved you three summers now but I want them all” that’s Lucien speaking ma’am. “Have I known you 20 seconds or 20 years?”, both of them about the bond. “And you'll save all your dirtiest jokes for me and at every table, I'll save you a seat, lover” we all know Lucien has a mind for dirty jokes and sass and Elain would always save him the sit next to her because he is the one who truly saw her and, in his distance, was the presence she needed while she figured it all out. Finally, The fact that the song has very clear wedding tones I think fits the headcanon, that more than a mating ceremony, Elucien would have a wedding, because it feels like something Elain would feel more comfortable with.
Treacherous -“I can't decide if it's a choice Getting swept away I hear the sound of my own voice Asking you to stay”..... mmmmmm is this or isn’t it Elain getting closer to Lucien, but still wondering if it’s the bond or her, yet nonetheless surrendering to the fact that she wants him to stay. “This slope is treacherous This path is reckless This slope is treacherous And I, I, I like it” Elain doesn’t want an easy love, to simple do as the bond suggests she wants something that has twigs and branches and where she needs to question herself and truly ask what she wants out of life and this relationship. Also the softness of the melody juxtaposed with the vulnerability, brings a soft rawness that is Elain.
King of my heart: Neither of them expected to feel like they could love with all the hope and unapologetic free falling feel characteristic of first loves, yet here we are. They rule their kingdom inside the room because they are discovering their feelings for each other away from prying eyes and people that have expectations on how they should work with the mating bond and all that. “Late in the night, the city's asleep Your love is a secret I'm hoping, dreaming, dying to keep Change my priorities The taste of your lips is my idea of luxury” Again, with the love away from everyone, feeling their world shift around what they are starting to feel for one another. “Is the end of all the endings? My broken bones are mending With all these nights we're spending” did we say healing arc through love and support an “not expecting anything to come off this, but I just want to see you well” à la sjm?? I THINK WE DID.
Emorie: I’m working with crumbs here, delicious crumbs that will make a delicious emorie cake, but crumbs nonetheless.. I need more and I need it now.
I think he knows - My girl Emerie crushing hard hard haaaaaaaaard on Mor.
Cruel Summer - “I don't wanna keep secrets just to keep you And I snuck in through the garden gate Every night that summer just to seal my fate (oh) And I screamed for whatever it's worth "I love you, " ain't that the worst thing you ever heard” this is prime PRIME PRIME ANGST, we will get from these two.
Gwynriel: this is an edit because I'm not a hoe for these two (yet...trust me once I see Az heal this is the tag where you will find me) and I did not know which songs might fit them and then when I posted it I was like WAIT WAIT I KNOW.
Gold rush - Gwyn talking herself out of her crush on Az after finding out about the whole necklace and being like “I don’t want a gold rush”.
Daylight - Az is a Taylor hoe first, spymaster second. She just makes him feel things. But in all seriousness “Like daylight It's golden like daylight You gotta step into the daylight and let it go Just let it go, let it goI wanna be defined by the things that I love Not the things I hate Not the things that I'm afraid of, I'm afraid of Not the things that haunt me in the middle of the night I, I just think that You are what you love” this is Az healing and being in better place where he can reflect on how he used to relate to love and romantic relationships, he now understands that love is not black and white but golden. He stepped into this notion of love and through it he found a beautiful relationship with Gwyn, he wants to be defined by the love he feels for her and the love he feels for his family, not by the things that haunted him, not by his mistakes, not by his trauma. He is golden, he is daylight, shadows and all he is daylight.
Az + Elain: As a romantic end game they are not my ship, but I do stand by my pre-acosf position that these two would be really good friends
Out of the woods -  Where we stand after acosf I say that it is not far fetched that they might hook up and then realize that it’s not for them and that experience helps them access a new part of their healing: “They lost each other, but they found themselves”. The anxiety that this song mirrors is the anxiety of them knowing something doesn’t quite *fit* right, that they are both in turbulent times emotionally and this relationship is not giving them the peace they thought it would. They are paper airplanes, because they know that it’s not the right call for where they are in their own journeys if they want to heal properly and that neither will get what they truly want from the other one. The monsters who turned out to be trees, they are in the woods in this relationship, they were built to fall apart.. are all images that speak of the dynamic we could see of them, they try it doesn’t work and then after, when they are in better places mentally they will look back and be like “we dodge a bullet there didn’t we”.
Bonus: His necklace hanging around her neck, the image is clear there and so is the commentary.
Az + Mor: formerly known as Moriel, the ship that used to reign my heart
Breath - This song is entirely from Az’s perspective once he and Mor talk about, well, everything. This is not how he had planned it, this is not how he wanted this to go, but “people are people and sometimes it doesn’t work out, but it’s killing me to see you go after all this time” referencing letting go of the romantic feelings he had for her. They were a crutch for him and now he has to face life and the things that torment him about it, without the protection and comfort his crush on her offered him. “And we know it's never simple, Never easy Never a clean break, no one here to save me You're the only thing I know like the back of my hand,” regardless of what you all want to think, they do love and know each other but shift in their dynamic will mean an adjustment for both of them... it’s not a clean break. “Never wanted this, never wanna see you hurt Every little bump in the road I tried to swerve”, also Idc about what you all think, Az never never never wanted to hurt Mor, if he knew his behavior was in someway affecting her he would have done something, and I think from the aftermath of him going after Eris on ACOWAR we can see that... also this might allude to him actually knowing that Mor is a lesbian and he has tried to make sure she feels safe around him and knows that he has her back agains the whole world if need be, regardless of her lack of romantic feelings for him.
Feyl*n: honestly who knew there would be so many songs that would fit these two. Such bops for a crappy dude like T*mlin.
Exile - “I never learned to read your mind (never learned to read my mind) I couldn't turn things around (you never turned things around) 'Cause you never gave a warning sign (I gave so many signs)” He never even tried to learn to read her mind, he never turned things around and she gave so so many signs. The way he looks at Rhys like he’s his understudy, but no sugar he’s the principal actor and you got fired.
Getaway car - and I oop. Because that is essentially what they were both to each other. Feyre needed someone to give her security and financial stability, T*mlin needed someone to break the curse: “It was the best of times the worst of crimes”.
Bad blood - LOOOOOL. They used to be mad love and now they have bad blood.
Tell me why -  Imma just leave a collection of quotes here that well allude to them through the first act of ACOMAF: “I took a chance, I took a shot And you might think I'm bulletproof but I'm not You took a swing, I took it hard And down here from the ground, I see who you are” Feyre seeing T*mlin for the abusive person that he is, from the ground.. where his behavior put her. Also “I'm sick and tired of your reasons I got no one to believe in You tell me that you want me, then push me around And I need you like a heartbeat But you know you got a mean streak Makes me run for cover when you're around Here's to you and your temper Yes, I remember what you said last night And I know that you see what you're doing to me Tell me why” The if he loved me, why did he do it and the “it’s not a question of if he loved you but how” conversation she has with Rhys.
I could go on and on forever placing all T-Swift songs around acotar characters, but I think this is getting longer than we all anticipated.. or did we? we all know I am not ✨concise✨. Anywho, thanks for sticking around.
Besos!!
BOOOONUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSS:
Obviously, Invisible String is for all my mated/soon to be mated boos, and I think Peace is a song that can apply to both Feysand and Nessian from Rhys’ and Nesta’s perspectives respectively.
Having your otp be happy and together is great and all but nothing beats the electricity and the chemistry at the start of their relationship where they first meet and are getting to know each other, and they don’t like each other, but they do like each other, but neither of them can admit they like each other, and neither of them think the other likes each other and UGH THE TENSION I CAN’T!
Mate anon: They were! I don’t know if her Pinterest still exists or if the boards are still up but if you scroll far enough, you’ll see pins where she labels them with Mor and Azriel.
OMG how do I not remember this??? I was all over that shit back in the day, it was my acotar otp, after feysand. I wonder if I have any old posts about moriel and her pinterest...
Also sorry if I was a dick when I responded to you the first time, it’s hard not to assume the worst intentions with the fandom being the way it is. I’m always on the defensive 😂
