“You love me,” Will replies, muffled and quiet since his face is pressed up against Mike’s shoulder. Now that he’s managed to not stumble over his own two feet, it’s not a bad place to be in, and Will leans in closer, breathing in the familiar scent of the detergent that Mrs. Wheeler has used since they were kids mixed in with the cologne Mike’s parents had gotten him for Christmas this past year. 

“I do,” Mike says, soft and a bit breathless, and he leans down, pressing his lips against Will’s forehead in a gentle kiss. “You know I do.”

Will can’t help but hum, and he wraps his arms around his boyfriend, content and warm and safe in the embrace. For a February day, it’s surprisingly warm outside, and the sun is out for the first time in what feels like an eternity. 

“So, did you blindfold me and bring me out to the woods just to hug me?” Will mumbles.

“Would you be mad if I did?” Mike mumbles back, his voice soft and teasing, and Will just laughs.

“Maybe a little,” he teases, pulling back enough so that he would be looking at Mike, if he weren’t blindfolded. “Especially since we could’ve just cuddled on your couch. It’s a lot warmer in your family’s basement than it is out here.”

A quiet laugh escapes Mike’s lips, and he kisses Will’s forehead again. “It’s not that bad out today,” he points out, and he hugs Will closer. “Besides, if we get cold, we can just huddle together for warmth.”

“Mm,” Will hums, leaning into the embrace, “good point, good point. Is that your way of saying there really was no other reason you brought me out here?”

“It’s like you don’t know me at all,” Mike deadpans, and Will just laughs, pushing against his chest. “Sure, let’s just waste our Saturday afternoon wandering in the woods like we’re twelve again. Or like we’re sixteen and on patrol.”

“Romantic,” Will remarks. “You really know how to woo a guy, Mike Wheeler.”

This time, Mike just groans, and he pushes Will away slightly, before taking him by the shoulders again. “I’ll have you know I am very good at wooing guys,” Mike huffs as he carefully steers Will through the woods.

“Oh?” Will teases. “Says who?”

Mike lets out a little indignant squawk. “You are so,” he sputters, “so—”

“So?”

“Annoying,” Mike grumbles, but there’s no real heat to his voice. “And mean.”

“Annoying and mean,” Will echoes, fighting the urge to grin. “You’re really doing a great job at this wooing me thing, babe.”

Once again, Mike just lets out an exasperated groan, and he keeps walking forward, still holding Will close. “One of these days, I’m going to catch you in the act,” he warns. “And I’ll make sure everyone sees the real Will Byers. Everyone thinks you’re the nice one of the relationship, but look at you.”

Will just laughs, and he tilts his head back, just enough so Mike can see his smile. “Nobody’s ever going to believe you,” he teases. “Except maybe Jonathan. But God knows he’ll side with me just to piss you off.”

“You and your entire family are going to be the death of me,” Mike deadpans. Then, before Will can even think of a response, Mike brings both of them to a stop, and he squeezes Will’s shoulder gently. “I hope you know how much I love you.”

Once again, Will turns his head, and he blindly reaches up, placing his hand on Mike’s cheek. “Of course, I do,” he says softly. “And you know I love you too… terrible wooing skills and all.”

“Asshole,” Mike grumbles, but he leans forward, kissing Will—soft and sweet. “Anyways. We’re here. Be prepared to eat your words, William. I am excellent at wooing you, thank you very much.”

Will laughs softly, and he kisses Mike back, pressing their foreheads together. “I’m excited to see why you brought me out here,” he whispers, and he means it. Even with all the teasing and the flirting, Will knows Mike is the most thoughtful, intentional person in his life. At the end of the day, there’s no one who puts more effort into loving the people around him than Mike does. 

Mike exhales a soft, breathy laugh, and he steps away. “Okay,” he says, sounding a little bit more nervous now. “I’m gonna take your blindfold off now, got it?”

Will nods. “Got it.”

Mike takes another nervous breath, and his hands go to the blindfold around Will’s eyes, carefully and gently undoing the knot. “Happy Valentine’s Day, love,” he murmurs, just as the old green bandana falls from Will’s eyes, finally allowing him to see…

Oh.

Oh.

Will blinks—once, twice, thrice—and his breath catches.

Because there, standing right in front of him, is a new and improved Castle Byers.

It’s a lot bigger than the original Castle Byers—which is very helpful, considering the fact that Will’s a lot bigger than when he first built Castle Byers with his brother years ago. It looks sturdier too—built with twigs and branches, but also actual pieces of wood that’ll probably help it withstand storms and angry baseball bats and trembling hands better than the first fort did. But other than that, it looks nearly identical to Will’s childhood fort—with the familiar ALL FRIENDS WELCOME sign still hanging proudly on top of the fort. 

“I, um… I’ve been thinking about this for a while,” Mike whispers, and as he moves to stand next to Will, Will glances up, meeting his boyfriend’s eyes. There’s a shy, tentative smile on his face, and he shrugs slightly. “Ever since you, um… you tore it down, actually. But then you moved away, and the whole thing with One happened… and there was just never a good time. But I… I wanted to do this for you, both… as an apology for that day, but also just a gift for you.”

Mike pauses here, and he smiles again, warm and gentle. “One of my favorite parts about you is how you’ve never lost yourself, Will,” he says softly. “I mean… even when everyone else was trying to be someone they’re not, you kept being yourself. You were never scared to be you, and I just… I don’t know. You always make me feel brave enough and safe enough to be myself, and… I wanted to give you this. Just… to say thank you.”

Tears sting Will’s eyes, and before Mike can say anything else, Will all but tackles him into a kiss, holding him close. A surprised little “oof” escapes Mike’s lips, muffled against the kiss, and he stumbles backwards, before wrapping his arms around Will to steady both of them. 

“I love you,” Will whispers, pulling away just enough to look Mike in the eye. “I love you so much.”

Mike beams, and there’s a softness in his eyes. “Even with my terrible wooing skills?” he teases.

“I changed my mind,” Will teases back, and he kisses his boyfriend again, slower and more deliberate this time. “I definitely changed my mind.”

Another laugh escapes Mike’s lips. “Good,” he says smugly, holding Will closer. “And I didn’t even have to show you the picnic I have for us inside!”

Will can’t help but smile, and he presses his forehead against Mike’s, meeting his boyfriend’s eyes. “You’re incredible, you know that, right?” Will whispers. “You’re incredible, and I love you, and also, there is no way anything I’m ever going to be able to top this gift.”

“You don’t need to,” Mike laughs, and his eyes crinkle as he smiles. “I’m just happy that you’re happy.”

“Sap,” Will says immediately, and the two of them share another smile. “You complete and utter sap.”

“You love it,” Mike teases. “You love meeee.”

He says it like that’s some kind of massive, insane victory—like it isn’t the easiest thing in the world for Will to love him. Like Will hasn’t been falling in love with him—as a friend, as a best friend, and now as a boyfriend—since the very first day the two of them met on that swing set. Like the best thing in Will’s life isn’t getting to love Mike Wheeler and getting to be loved by him in return.

“I do,” Will whispers back, and he stands on his tiptoes, kissing Mike again sweetly. “I love you so much.”

Mike’s gaze softens, and he kisses Will back, before murmuring, “I love you too.”

(The rest of their afternoon is, in fact, spent cuddling with each other, and stuffing their faces full of picnic food that Will’s sure Mrs. Wheeler must have helped him make, and laughing about the most random things like the gossip they’ve overheard from school or the latest updates in their friends’ love lives, and singing ridiculous, stupid songs together simply because they can.

There’s nobody else here but the two of them, after all. And this place, which once crumpled into ruins as the result of harsh words and painful distance and broken friendships, begins to become Will’s safe place again. 

The rest of the world falls away when the two of them are in Castle Byers, until all Will can focus on is Mike Wheeler and just how damn much Will loves him.

It’s the greatest gift Will could’ve asked for.)

Here are some of my thoughts on Young Royals S3 ep 1-5

I’m just rambling here. This is probably going to be long, all over the place and not well articulated, so bear with me. 

And before I talk about the show, I just need to say that it never ceases to amaze me how incredibly talented all the actors are.

First of all, I don’t blame either Simon or Wilhelm. They are in an incredibly stressful situation. They are bound to make mistakes and I think their actions while being stubborn and lacking common sense are understandable.

I really loved Simon this season and i was so exited there was more of a focus on him. We finally got to some of how everything affected him. It broke my heart to notice he wasn’t the loudest in the choir anymore and then him saying he’s not enjoying music. Side note: Dude had some banger lines this season 

I find it ironic that everything that Wille found attractive in Simon’s in s1 became things that Simon has to shut down in order to be with him

If you told yesterday me that today me was actually okay with an August redemption arc, I would not have believed you. This in no way excuses his behavior, and he still has a lot to work on, but I think it was one of my favorite parts of this season. 

I am not at all surprised by the Erik thing. since s1 I kept wondering when Willie's perfect image of him would come crumbling down, but can’t imagine how devastating it would be to learn that the person who was there for you the most was not this perfect person you thought they were and might not even accept you.

I was rooting hard for Micke and Sara. I knew it was unrealistic that he wasn’t going to hurt her again, but it was still so heartbreaking that he couldn’t pull it together for her. I think there are bigger issues going on than his ADHD that needs to be handled. 

Why does the queen get space and help with her anxieties and grief, but when Wilhelm is struggling he gets no support and is seen as embarrassing and problematic???? 

Why the fuck was it Wilhelm's responsibility to teach Simon what not to do? Obviously, this kid who has never been in the public eye has no idea what he should or shouldn’t do, it almost seems like it was deliberate to get Wilmons relationship to fail idk. It would have been so easy to get something to teach him some basic media training. It's just disturbing how the court had absolutely zero regard for Simon’s safety. 

I’ve seen people talk about Wilhelm being controlling over Simon. Is it acceptable or excusable behavior? Absolutely not, but let me put things into perspective. Wilhelm was raised in an abusive and very controlling environment. His opinions and feelings didn’t matter, and he was told it was love, so it made sense that he would try to do the same for Simon and expected him to go along with it. I think expecting Wilhelm to have healthy relationship skills is unrealistic, and the show never pretended he did. It’s been pretty obvious throughout that Wilhelm consistently projects his feelings and emotions onto other people. 

I still don't know if Simon was breaking up with Wille or not, or they were just trying to frame it that way to scare us (honestly hoping it leads into a more mature conversation), but if he was… Wilhelm had it coming. He hasn’t been handling things very well and is taking it out on Simon, which is just not okay, and he doesn’t deserve that.  

Before this season, I wasn’t sure how I felt about Wille abdicating, cause i still had this fantasy in my head of him as this queer king, but after everything I’ve seen this season, it’s so obvious how much this institution is killing him. He needs to get out and heal from his traumas and find out who he really is without all those rules and pressures.

I don’t even know if I want Wilmon to be an endgame. Obviously, I do, but at this point, I don’t think that’s what’s best for either of them. It’s been very clear this season how much they don’t (at the moment) fit into each other's lives.. Either some major things have to change (Wille abdicating) or they need to split up. I just hope that both boys get a good ending, even if it’s not with each other. 

I don’t know... I’m emotionally exhausted, there are so many plot lines and I really don’t know how they are going to fix everything in one episode.

a lot of my hcs involve the other turtles so they’ll probs be mentioned too!!

- he’s very sentimental (this is literally just canon actually but i digress)

- cries during movies probably but just pretends like it’s allergies or some dumb shit like that (he honestly just seems like a crier in general tbh)

- paranormal stuff freaks him out but he’ll never tell a soul

- has “idk what the hells going on so im just gonna joke around and hope it works out” flavor of autism

- tying into the autism hc he mirrors his brothers a lot!!! (this actually happens a lot in the cartoon, he’ll mimic their expressions and poses a lot.)

- he shows affection through physical touch but will also 100% gripe (non seriously) abt it if his bros want a hug or something because being a drama queen is His Entire Thing

- raphs a shithead, donnie’s a bitch. therefore, they are either just… such little rapscallions when paired up together or fiercely protective. or both. depends on the day.

- uses the just most vulgar language to annoy the shit out of leonardo when he’s feeling especially evil (they have a swear jar bcs of his dumb ass.)

- raph is the youngest

- him and mikey are twins and they fight over who is older every week. despite the weekly attempts at fratricide those two are best buds. (alternatively: “well I was mutated TWO MINUTES BEFORE YOU!” *is such a little shit abt it he ends up seeming younger*)

- he helps mikey when he has anxiety attacks or meltdowns (side eyes this)

- raph is a good singer but it is a secret he will take to his grave (this is also generally hilarious to me because literally every other raph is such a bad singer but does it anyways)

- he knows how to do makeup and he’s very good at it!

- he’s transmasc but has no idea because he was raised as a guy (splinter literally just guessed w/ all of them and it ended up working out)

- diversity win hes also bi

- this is actually a hc i have for them all, i like to think that they have retractable claws because it’s fun.

“Distant Shores” (Voyager short story collection, 2005) review: meh

I'd hoped this collection would be better, frankly; luckily the stories that involve B'Elanna (and there were quite a few of them, to my surprise) are mostly okay. Kes also appears prominently in at least two stories but Harry didn't really get one where he's the protagonist, and I'm surprised none involved Naomi or the Borg kids. Three stories seemed very concerned with the surviving Equinox crew and at least two seemed to want to vindicate them somehow?? I don't know, weird choices. But regardless, the problem wasn't so much in the ideas but in the execution, which was often atrocious.

story-by-story breakdown under the cut

“Da capo al fine” by Heather Jarman - this is the 'frame' story, you get to read the first half at the beginning and the second half at the end, but this story doesn't work so well for this purpose as the one on “The Lives of Dax” did for that collection. The plot is about Admiral Janeway and her last moments with the Borg Queen in “Endgame” but, idk. I think the author wanted to write a reckoning with all of Janeway's arch-nemeses but the story fails to have any stakes.

“Command Code” by Robert Greenberg - Tuvok and Chakotay get snippy on the bridge once Chakotay is left in command very soon after “Caretaker”. The concept is intriguing! Unfortunately the author's style is as dull as watching paint dry.

“Winds of Change” by Kim Sheard - this one was really fun! After being possessed by Tieran, Kes is struggling with her anger and reactivity so she goes to B'Elanna for help, and they try some of B'Elanna's sports holoprograms. This does not go well! Everything seems lost until B'Elanna offers a different approach to holoprograms, and it turns out they can work well together. This was just a really nice take on a dynamic that was really underexplored in the show (the author makes a point to say so as explicitly as she can), and it's honestly one of the best stories in the bunch.

“Talent Night” by Jeffrey Lang - my man Jeffrey (of “String Theory - Cohesion” fame) contributes to the collection with a hilarious story concept and great characterization for all involved, mostly B'Elanna, Tom and Harry, who are in charge of organizing said talent night. I can almost forgive the fact that it just an elaborate setup to get B'Elanna and Tom together by making B'Elanna needlessly jealous. Almost.

“Letting Go” by Keith R. A. DeCandido - this story is about the ones 'left behind' by Voyager, the families and loved one of the crew back in the AQ. I think I would've liked this way more if the author had chosen to follow anyone else other than Janeway's fiancé Mark. I liked how grounded the story is in the events of DS9 and First Contact and the range of reactions that all these people have to Voyager's disappearance, but I found myself wondering more about Greskrendtregk and T'Pel than Mark. I also found it hilarious that the story ends with Mark having married someone else and having to write to Janeway, who he's just learned is still alive, about it. I have to say though that it was a nice touch to have a lot of the people involved be the families of the crewmen who died in “Caretaker”—they obviously don't know what happened but the reader does, so their presence lends a lot of emotional gravity to the narrative.

“Closure” by James Swallow - Seven and Neelix get trapped in a cave that used to be inhabited by aliens and Neelix walks off to find a way out when—Kes shows up. Is it a vision, induced by the Ocampa artifacts in the cave? Is it actually Kes who's come back to say goodbye? It doesn't make much difference to Neelix, who is very glad to see her again. I think I would've appreciated this story more if it hadn't turned Neelix into too much of a lovesick fool; I don't like the idea that he actually never got over Kes with this kind of intense sentimentality. The story was enjoyable but something about it rubbed me the wrong way.

“The Secret Heart of Zolazus” by Robert T. Jeschonek - this one is terrible. Seven crash-lands on a planet and is saved by an outcast who pretty much gives her life for Seven and it's supposed to be ~inspirational~ or something but it's written in a way that... I don't know, reads exactly like one of those corny christian moral stories? I swear it's one of the most artless, embarrassing things I've read this year. The one thing it has going on is that Seven gets to kneel beside this dying alien girl who's taken a hit for her and so you can read some subtext in there, but the horrifying ableism is truly not worth the ticket!

“Isabo's Shirt” by Kirsten Beyer - the horrors aren't over though because this story is worse!! It's unabashedly J/C but oh boy both Chakotay and Janeway are so HORRIBLY out of character I couldn't cope. How did this even get published? Is this shipping brain at its worst?? Plus it's embarrassingly racist. I was never particularly interested in this ship but if THIS is in any way representative I am for sure steering well clear.

“Brief Candle” by Christopher L. Bennet - note: if you can't understand the distinction between romance and workplace sexual harassment you should probably not be writing romance! This is particularly galling because this is the 'Marika Wilkarah lives on Voyager for a few weeks' story which is something I wanted to see explored for a long time, and like... Marika HAS some interiority and convictions in this story but 1. we never see her really interact with other Bajorans if not in hindsight (why??) 2. her remaining resentment for Seven is barely mentioned and 3. she basically wants to be close to someone before dying and? essentially harasses Harry into having a relationship with her?? what???? If this were a fic it should get a 'dead dove do not eat' label. That was so, so awful and such a disappointment for the interesting concept this story promised to be. As I said in a previous post, the one thing this story has got going on is that Marika sides with B'Elanna during the events of “Barge of the Dead”, which I think it's a great take! But not enough to make me forget how bad the rest is.

“Eighteen Minutes” by Terry Osborne - the story of the time the Doctor spent on the planet from “Blink of an Eye” before he got beamed back to Voyager. I'm always extremely ambivalent about Doctor episodes/stories and this one is no exception. On one hand, the conflict he faces between his programmed-in hippocratic oath and the prime directive is believable, but on the other it ends up being another one of those weird power fantasies in which the Doctor gets the boundless gratitude and undying affection of the people around him because... he's done his job as a medical practitioner? It feels in character but I don't have to like it!

“Or The Tiger” by Geoffrey Thorne - LOVELY B'Elanna characterization in this one right until the ending, which I hated. Authors always tend to exaggerate B'Elanna's propensity for violence when in reality the show consistently shows her being very restrained and extremely remorseful whenever she snaps (and she only snaps because people tell her constantly that she's unable to control herself!) It's one of those stories where the point is 'aw the Equinox crew is trying very hard to make amends and the Voyager people are being mean to them' which... baffles me as a setup? It was interesting to see B'Elanna believably get into a rabbit hole when confronted with new technology that could help Voyager! But I'm not sure she wouldn't have snapped out of it as soon as it was pointed out to her that she might've been hurting living beings with her actions. We've seen B'Elanna struggle with this kind of moral quandaries before (“Prototype” and “Dreadnought” come to mind), so that the conflict dragged out for as long as it did here (and that she beat someone up for it!) feels deeply out of character to me.

“Bottomless” by Ilsa J. Bick - another one of 'the Equinox crew deserved a second chance!' stories, this time with crewman Marla Gilmore. I loved the technological conundrum (what do you do if your submersible is stuck on the bottom of the sea??) and Marla's lingering guilt and resentment felt believable and genuine. Shame that she expresses this mostly by being mean to B'Elanna (thought it happens mostly in her head), and you get the feeling she's just sharing the author's POV, since she has Tom saying some terrible garbage too... there's really nothing quite as diabolic as misogyny (and misogyny that's racially coded) coming from women authors! Ultimately Marla sacrifices herself to save Janeway and Chakotay and in so doing she expiates all of her Equinox sins, which would be okay (I guess) if it wasn't the exact same plot of “Brief Candle”, for some reason.

This feels like Victoria knows that the Jus Divinum are in Swordhaven’s ranks and doesn’t approve and has been trying to minimize their influence with Good. Or she does and Richard doesn’t approve and going to be helping us when that becomes an issue, which I don’t think will be the case. Like he’s acknowledging that there’s spies and pleading with us to hear Victoria out before acting.

Well this isn’t foreboding at all 

Honestly the more I think about this, the worse it get. 

Either its going to be Victoria and Tara having a falling out so bad that they don’t see each other as family anymore (probably due to Victoria not condemning the Jus Divinum and letting the Water Elves slaughter slide) or they fight and not reconcile in time before something happens to one of them (probably involving whatever Iona is doing). 

And the friend referenced is Abel without a doubt, thought I'm a bit stuck on the whole ‘giving up their future’. It's worded like goes with the first part rather than being something separate, so Abel is going to something that'll affect one of them. It could be Abel putting Tara in a situation where she needs to use her powers to influence the Leylines, pissing the OWO off enough to try to silence both of them. Or it could be Abel dragging Victoria down with him with whatever he’s doing to do, probably her trying to get Tara out of harm’s way and getting hurt in the process. It's a bit unclean which of them is going to be in trouble at this point.

All in all, I'm dreading this in particular and hoping I'm not right on any of this.

Unrelated to this, but I'm loving Kathool's role in the story now. Like we finally get to shit talk with someone again which is a welcome break from all the serious stuff as well as them pointing out things for us to focus on, like with being up the 'every threat, lie, and myth must come to an end' line again. I hope them giving their two cents becomes a recurring thing going forward.

Queen Iona is the Envoy of Thunder, I'm calling it now

She's probably the one shooting the lightning at Rhubarb in the last cutscene

So she has an obvious hatred for the Avatars, the Champions, and Greenguard, but a sense of camaraderie with Abel.

Idk how long ago Duncan was king, long enough to be generations but short enough to still have beef with Greenguard, but I think Iona was around for the Champion of Energy getting killed or that the sense of revenge against Greenguard has persisted until present day. Not sure what cause her hatred for the Avatars and Champions, but that’s probably going to be explain in a monologue at some point.

I guess there’s something there that Iona wants back and having Victoria meet her ambassador there is a ruse to steal it back. It's probably something she needs for the RoCT to be powerful enough to do whatever she's planing, or it might be a sentimental item from the dead Champion of Energy. Either way, something to conveniently interrupt the conversation we're going to have with Victoria I'm sure.

I feel like this might be me grasping at straws, but with how much emphasis are being put on the Leylines recently, they going to come into play with RoCT. 

So since I have a theory about RoCT being a two part, I think the part about harnessing power from the swelling Leylines will come into play either at the end of the first part or in the second part. Iona is coming off like she’s manipulate Abel’s hatred for Neso into hatred for the Avatars as a whole, probably to push him to be the one to swing at them first. Something bad enough for the OWO to step in again and try to silence/kill him. Which would cause the Leylines to swell, giving Iona the opportunity to gain more power herself to actually take down the Avatars or launch a full blown invasion on Greenguard. Maybe even force open a gateway to the Plane of Energy and unleash elementals on Greenguard if she is the Envoy of Energy.

I think we’re either going to pocket this incase were fight the OWO again or giving with to Abel or Tara, maybe to buy us the time to convince them to pardon whatever happens if they vote to silence either of them. It’ll probably be a one time item since the OWO will see it as a damnable offense and not take lightly to it a second time.

I didn’t mean Sarah would announce it like that! I should’ve clarified more, I’m sorry! I think when she does release the book title it should give us a good gauge as to who the mc of the book is. I think the novella will be Mor’s and the full length books will definitely be Azriel’s and Elain’s. The ship wars definitely won’t end, they might get more hostile, but I want to hope maybe things will improve and become more positive. I would like the next book to be Azriel’s, and after Silver Flames and HOFAS, I think it’s more than likely his, but who knows. It could very well be the novella (I would actually laugh in amusement & I think I saw somewhere that said Sarah talking about how she wouldn’t mind the releasing a novella after SF I could be wrong tho but I thought I saw it) or Elain’s book.

agreed again! i've thought az was next since a couple of weeks after acosf and hofas only reinforced this for me. like yeah elain does have some setup but i find it odd she was hardly present in acosf and not there at all in hofas if she's next. i find sjm shining a spotlight on az and his struggles similar to what she did with nesta in acofas. we know elain isn't well either but she's hiding it for now whereas az is letting it directly affect him. he's getting worse and acting out

of course, i could be totally wrong and elain is next but... idk it just doesn't make sense to me narratively. like why would koschei be killed halfway through the spinoffs when he's seemingly meant to be the big baddie? it makes much more sense to me if gwynriel dealt with the illyrians, ramiel and maybe the remaining queens first. throw in an autumn court subplot and boom, bam! we got a way to setup the elucien book

Okay so i did explain to him that the uk version was the original and his comment to that was a very simple ‘not to be a bitch to the tea people but Brian is better’ and then I told him that Charlie Hunnam aka the hot guy from Sons of Anarchy was actually in it and i wish you could see his face! Literally jaw on the floor/wide eyed and he sat like that for a good minute. But that lead to him then going on a 5-10 minute rambling about how Charlie and Aiden worked together in the movie King Arthur so now Gale and Randy have to reunite as well. And i fully agree with him.

Listen, it’s been days since he found out about Gale being straight and he’s still shocked. We did watch the Prom episode and he literally paused on him and went ‘come on..he can’t…man’ he’s literally having a similar reaction as Mikey did to Hunter. It’s kinda funny ngl. As for his ‘i think’ moment, I honestly have no clue what Gale did to him. Our uncle did say to our mom that if this is how he comes to a certain type of realization that he will never let him live it down because my brother made fun of him for realizing he was gay due to young Hugh Grant. So i think out of everyone, my uncle is the only one who is actually hoping my brother had an awakening through Gale.

I have a love hate relationship with the proposal (my brother only has like 2% love for it, the rest is hate but whatever) but the ‘my prince’ thing started a fight in the house when we watched it. Cause to me it was a cute moment but for some reason is felt a little awkward to me. I think cause the whole thing felt out of character, idk how to explain it. But my brother while having an ‘awww’ type of reaction, swears that Brian would never and that the reason for Brian’s expression afterwards is because Gale was trying not to laugh. So his hatred for the proposal is insane.

As for the B99, both of us have seen in multiple times and he put it on last Saturday because he wanted to watch some comfort shows. And then on Wednesday we were watching the Halloween II episode and when the episode ended with Holt winning the heist that’s when my brother got a text from his friend about Andre. It was the worst timing ever. So for the past few days B99 is the only thing we’ve watched.

Btw our family has this tradition where for Christmas we give each other 3 presents. 2 that are good/useful and 1 that’s something random/weird/sometimes bad. And last year he gave me 2 different photos of himself as a present and the 3rd one was a box of condoms (that was his ‘bad gift cause lesbian ha ha and photos of him are always a good gift duuh’- this was his actual explanation). So I’m genuinely considering giving him your blog and the knowledge of the fandom/what i did :/ as the 3rd gift. I told my uncle and cousins and they all think this is a great idea, which leads me to believe its a bad idea BUT i guess we will find out. One year my in-laws did a white elephant gift exchange and my BIL thought we were all doing gag gifts so he got boxer briefs and socks printed with his face on them. My spouse “won” them and they’re now in our sock and underwear drawer. All this to say, I think your brother gets to learn about his tumblr fame for Christmas. This year is an in-laws year for Christmas (we alternate, my parents are still salty about 2020 being their year) so if you want to send me updates, I will welcome the distraction. I love my in-laws (and especially my niblings) but I am an only child and my parents are quiet and visiting my in-laws is 8 adults, 3 children, and one dog under one roof and no one is quiet and it is A LOT for me.

hate to put a downer in the tag but is anyone else majorly disappointed in s&b season 2? it feels like the show was rushing to get to all the "important bits" without giving them the weight and buildup they deserved. they front-loaded the entire plot of Crooked Kingdom and got to the ending of Siege and Storm in, like, episode 2. And that ending... holy shit, that sucked.

No white-hair-Alina, no orphanage happy ending for her and Mal, no mention of Alina's full-ass cult. Does no one remember the girl with suns tattooed on her face??? I do. she was cool. And what the fuck is up with David dying in the assault on the Fold? He wasn't supposed to die until Rule of Wolves, it makes no sense why they pushed his death to this season. They're clearly expecting to get a season 3, based on the ending with the Crows (which is, inexplicably, the hook of the book that came before the one they adapted for this season????) so why would they not expect to play David's death out the way it happened in the book? And, again, why the fuck did they front-load the plot of Crooked Kingdom? Why is Kaz's most famous scene just kind of tossed in the middle of the season with no actual narrative buildup? Why does the show feel like Matthias, of all people, needs to have beef with Pekka Rollins??? Those two characters have exactly nothing to do with each other--iirc, they don't even interact in the books. It feels like the writing team just sat around a table and went "ooh what if" until they wrote enough words to fill in a script. I can't tell if Leigh Bardugo gave all of this her blessing, or if she just looked away too long and they went rogue on her.

(side-note, killing the king and Vasily at the same time wasn't a great choice. the scene in the book where Nikolai looks his not father in the eye and tells him to get out, or he'll be charged for his crimes against Genya is such a good moment of catharsis for her character, and the queen isn't in enough of the show for her little replacement scene to fill that gap.)

And I know I've mentioned this before, but the Darkling's death in the show is robbed of its weight by the way the show treats the name Aleksander. It's tossed around so flippantly that Alina's final extension of respect for him--calling him by the name he had when he was innocent--feels like she's just... saying goodbye. She's using the name he's had this whole time, rather than specifically calling him Aleksander as a show of respect for the dead. The Darkling is supposed to be a tragic character--not likeable by any standard, he's thoroughly and truly the villain of the Grisha Trilogy, but you're supposed to understand that at one point, he was innocent. At one point, he could have done something good. His death is a reminder of that, in the books. In the show, all you really feel is relief that you don't have to listen to his manipulative dialogue anymore.

Honestly, the season doesn't suck. It's not bad (I have some extra gripes about the sound design but that's definitely a budget issue and not really anyone's fault), it's just disappointing. There were some bits I really did like, too!! Every scene with Genya in it was absolutely incredible, the show did her so well. The humour in this season was consistently good. Show-Wylan lives up to his book counterpart very well. And the subplot with the saint in Shu Han was really well-done, even if I do wish the show had kept the original catalyst for Jesper using his Grisha powers. I know the show can do the books justice (the two Nina and Matthias scenes in season 1 that are literally word-for-word accurate come to mind as examples), and I do want there to be a season 3 so I can find out where they're going with all this. I was just expecting better. I'm sure people who haven't read the books, or are more forgiving of "high-budget fan fiction" style adaptations will really enjoy it, and that's not bad by any means.

Idk. I was just hoping for something the show didn't want to give, I guess.
