Yandere halloween ask yandere mad scientist! Bruno uses mind control chip to get darling to be the perfect spouse?
This ask right here made my mouth froth, I love Stepford wives so this ask just rolled along perfectly. Anyway enjoy!
This love
(Yandere mad scientist Bruno X female reader)
Tumblr media
You had always thought so highly of Dr Buccirati, you were his apprentice after all but there were times that you thought he just went a little too far with his work and this was one of them.
As he explained to you about how he made a chip that could modify an animal's behaviour. How the chip was planted in the rat's brain that you were holding.
"See (Y/n), look at how tame she is now" he said as he petted the poor creature's head.
"What do you intend to do with what you have learnt?" You asked with anger in your words.
"I intend to have the chip used to help with the conservation of the many animals that are close to being extinct. The animals will have the procedure and be put into captivity, they'll have no more issues with stress or aggressive behaviours which allows for them to be safely cared for and less risk during the reproduction cycle" he explained.
"So what you are saying is that you're going to be suppressing their natural survival instincts so they become domesticated?" You asked with a bitter taste on your tongue.
"That's exactly it, they'll have a safe place to repopulate and have nothing to worry about" he answered as he expressed his delight but it only made you grit your teeth in anger.
"I'm disgusted by what you are doing! You're essentially performing a lobotomy on these poor animals! You're playing god and taking away the emotions of a living creature!" You yelled at him.
"I've helped you work on some crazy things before… but I cross the line here!" You continued as you put the rat down in her cage before folding your arms at Bruno.
"Come on (y/n), you're overreacting… what I'm, no what we are working on is going to change history. So many species will be saved from becoming extinct. we will be two of the greatest scientific minds the world has ever know" he held your shoulder and lightly massaged it as he tried to convince you that there was no wrong in it.
"I don't know why you insist that this is a joint effort but I don't want anything to do with it, if people figure out how it works then it won't be long before this is used on humans… how many corrupt governments do you think would love to have this kind of technology used on their own people?" You rebuttal.
you glared at Bruno as you could see his usually calm demeanor wearing thin. He had his hands gripping his short black locks.
"(Y/n) the truth is that I love you, more than I could love anyone else. I want you to be by my side and I want you to be my equal…" he as his grip on you grew tighter.
"You are so intelligent and so beautiful… I just want you to do your best" he continued.
You pulled away the male with a shocked expression plastered on your face.
"Bruno… I didn't know you felt that way about me but I'm afraid I don't share the same feelings, I just don't think the chemistry is there between us" you told him before you headed to your bedroom.
🧪🧪🧪
You had decided you needed to cut ties from Bruno and finally begin your own work. You don't think anything could keep you working with him now. You began to pack your clothes back into your suitcase.
"(Y/n) are you planning on leaving now?" He asked as he rested himself against the door frame, he seemed to have recollected himself but to you something was off about his almost carefree tone.
"I intend to leave tomorrow" you said as you sat on your bed and folded your clothing.
"Don't you think you're blowing this out of proportion, can't we put the breaks on just talk about this over some tea..." he said as he slowly drew closer to you.
"I understand that you're upset and I didn't make things much better" he continued calmly before violently grabbing your hand causing you to fall back onto the bed before you heard a metallic click. You screamed as you tried to pull your hand back to find it was handcuffed to the head of the bed.
"What the hell?!" You screamed at Bruno who was now on top of you.
"I'm sorry that it had to come to this but I can't let you leave" he said.
"I love you too much to let you go… you're too good for this world" he continued.
You felt your stomach twist horribly and your vocal cords seize up. Your eyes were wide with horror.
"I dealt with my unrequited love for so long, I tried to just to put my feelings aside for you but I feel like if I keep it up any longer I'll explode" he rambled you tried to push him with your free hand but he was quick to hold it down.
🧪🧪🧪
It had been a month since he'd locked you up. You were curled up with your knees to your chest, you could see every little mark he'd ever left on your body, you still felt the sting that each love bite left on your skin. Today was cold and the chain and cuff around your ankle made it worse as you shivered in a silk nightgown.
You flinched as you heard the front door open. You had hoped that maybe that was anyone but Bruno, someone that could free you from this place. You heard a pair of footsteps draw closer, your hope dying as the same pattern tore into your brain… you knew he was home.
"(Y/n) I'm home" his voice was cheerful as he opened the door.
"I'm sorry I was later than usual… I found so many things I thought you'd like" he explained as he walked in with a large bag in his hand before placing it on the bed. You were hesitant to look but his sapphire eyes stared at you in anticipation, making your skin crawl.
You grabbed the bag and the first thing you pulled out was a 50s style white and black polka dotted dress. You looked at Bruno with a forced smile on your face.
"Bruno this is really nice but I've never really been a fan of dresses" you told him. He didn't respond. You pulled out another similar dress before picking out various boxes with golden jewelry till there was one more box inside, however it was rectangular in shape unlike the others. You pulled it out only to gasp in horror as you gazed upon the packaging of a pregnancy test. You looked back at him.
At this point you knew something was wrong, your stomach was telling you.
"What's going on?" You asked him with shakey words.
"I just need you to take it" he responded.
"Why?"
"I need to know whether or not you're pregnant, it's urgent"
"Urgent, what's urgent?!" You yelled at him.
"You're being extremely vague, it's scaring me" you replied, unsure of what was so urgant. You really hoped you weren't, having to live knowing your child was of his blood.
"Just take it please, wouldn't you like to know as well?" He begged.
You had a bad feeling about this but if you knew now then you could try to do something about it if it did come back positive. You let out a defeated sigh as you unboxed the test.
"See you didn't need to make such a big deal about it dear" he said in a light hearted tone as he walked towards the bed and unlocked the shackle on your leg and allowed you to go to the bathroom.
You felt the relief wash over you as you saw the results. It was negative, perhaps you were getting yourself all worked up.
"(Y/n) dearest, what's the results?" Bruno asked from outside the bathroom door. You opened it and showed him, his eyes lit up with joy as he hugged you which was very odd indeed, you assumed he'd had baby fever… if that was the case shouldn't he be disappointed.
You recoiled as you felt a sharp jab on the inner side of your elbow. You saw the now empty syringe in his hand.
"What are you doing?!" You screamed as you stumbled back from his grasp. He looked at the syringe and let out a content hum before his eyes returned to you.
He contemplated on whether he should tell you or not but at this point you couldn't do anything to stop him so there was no point in hiding it.
"I remember back on the night you tried to leave fondly, in hindsight you gave me the most brilliant idea" he explained.
"That whole talk on how my chip could work on humans was really inspiring, so I'm going to do just that… if you won't love me like this, then I can just make you love me" he continued as a smile grew on his lips.
The shock hit you as he explained it all, it horrified you to imagine it. It shook you to the very core. Everything else seemed like a luxury in comparison to losing everything.
"Bruno, please don't do this! I love you so much!" You screamed as you draped your body over him.
"My dear I love you so much… I'll stay with you forever… I'll give you as many children as you want, please oh please don't do this!" You were practically sobbing as you tried to pull on his strings.
"I'll do anything for you, anything at all!" You continued as you felt everything becoming numb, he had you in his hands and he could do anything he wanted to you.
"Please Bruno, we can put this all behind us and start over… you never imprisoned me, you never did those things to me… we can be the happiest couple!" You pleaded to him as your eyelids grow heavy.
"Please… please… I won't be the same person you feel in love with if you do this…" your screams turned into a mutter and as you tried to fight off the deep abyss of unconsciousness you swore you could see a glimpse of your whole life with every slow blink.
🧪🧪🧪
"What you've made is amazing Bruno, you should be proud of your work" the man in front of Bruno complimented his work.
"Thank you sir, to be honest I wouldn't be here showing you this if it wasn't for my wonderful wife" he said as he beamed with joy.
"Oh, your wife must be an amazing woman to help you" the man replied.
"Yes she is. She always gave me the right idea when I was unsure, she'd be here with us right now if it weren't for the upcoming baby. She's just been so ecstatic about it since we found out" he stated as he had his head in his hand. He was over the moon with joy, he couldn't talk to someone without bringing up the fact that he was going to be a father soon.
"Oh congratulations, how long till it's due?" The male congratulated him.
"Oh it's close, we're expecting around October… It's hard to imagine that I'll be a father in two months"
"And how's the lucky lady feeling about this? My wife was pretty worried before our first" he asked.
"Oh she's been great, she's been taking it all in stride. I haven't seen her sick or having any mood swings like what most of us tend to expect" Bruno chuckled as he slumped back into his chair.
"We should probably get back on topic… I should probably explain how these chips work in detail"

I Can Treat You Better
Tumblr media
Pairing: Stalker!Bucky x Reader
Words 1269
Warnings:  Stalking, mentions of sexual situations, explicit language, allusions to dubcon
Summary: Bucky sees you at a coffee shop and needs to show you he can treat you better than your boyfriend.
A/N: This is based on a prompt sent in by the LOVELY @sweetkingdomstarlight-blog  they wanted stalker Bucky in a coffee shop. Thank you to @river-soul and @syntheticavenger for running through this for me. Pure angels the both of you! This is a darker fic for me so please proceed with caution, no minors, and enjoy!
The first time Bucky saw you at the coffee shop it was raining. He was sitting in the corner frantically writing down memories before they left him again. You rushed in off the street clearly caught unprepared by the sudden storm, water droplets glistening on the skin of your chest and exposed legs. Bucky found himself writing down every detail about your disheveled appearance, completely enamored by your sudden entrance into his life. He pulled down his baseball cap when you walked closer to grab some napkins to try to dab the water off.
“That rain really came out of nowhere huh?” You asked, your voice breathy.
Bucky could see your skin prickled with goosebumps and your nipples peeking through your thin shirt. Before he could respond, you approached the counter to order your coffee and he was grateful he didn’t need to strain to hear your order so he could write it down, making sure he knew for next time. He noted the time and date on the page as you waited for your coffee scrolling through your phone. You looked so beautiful standing there, and Bucky knew he had to have you. Not a lot of people were fond of the Winter Soldier so he would have to be subtle about it. Learn your interests, your routine, so he could plan a run in, and by the time you figured out who he was, you would already be head over heels for him. It was foolproof.
When your name was called you perked up and went to the counter to retrieve it. Bucky whispering your name, liking how it felt on his tongue. He heard you thank the barista, your voice like honey and he closed his eyes imagined how you would sound moaning his name as he took your body apart. The chime of the door drew him out of his daydream and by the time his eyes snapped open you were gone.
Bucky spent the next week going to the coffee shop with his eyes trained unblinking at the door. He's caught you two more times walking past the shop causing him to bolt out the door to follow you. He knew you work at a daycare and that you went home for lunch. He loved to see how good you were with kids. He knew you’d make a great mother someday. There was one roadblock he noted when he followed you home at night. He knew you were dating someone who couldn’t fuck an orgasm out of you, but Bucky knew he could. He'd seen how you got yourself off after your date left. He could watch you for hours, and he did. He knew you were perfect for him, so kind and giving. Your boyfriend didn’t appreciate you, not like Bucky would. So he started leaving gifts outside your door. It started with flowers, then he overheard you say you needed a new coat, after that you needed new sneakers. It was easy to pick the lock to get your shoe size. He noticed you wore the jacket when it started getting colder. He started to think you would warm up to him since you liked his gifts enough to use them.
He was early tonight, waiting outside your house to make sure you got home from work safely. He left your favorite flowers today, it was the day he was going to introduce himself. Then he saw something that made his heart sink into his stomach. Your boyfriend, picking up the flowers and waiting for you. Bucky started to move from his spot across the street when he saw you round the corner and froze in place. He watched as you approached your boyfriend smiling as he handed you the flowers. The flowers that Bucky got for you. That’s when Bucky realized you thought his gifts were from your boyfriend. He realized he would have to fix that problem sooner than he had anticipated.
He spent the next week following your boyfriend instead of leaving you gifts. It killed him to not get you presents but he had to show you that your boyfriend wasn’t thinking of you. At the end of the week, he was going out of town for some bachelor weekend. It was the perfect opportunity for Bucky to show you that he cared about you. He was nothing like your boyfriend.
Bucky waited until you were inside after work, allowing you a moment to settle down after the day’s events. He had picked up your favorite takeout and was going to have dinner with you, he could hardly contain his excitement. Bucky walked across the street into your apartment building, a first-floor apartment was a bad idea. Any crazy person could break in if they wanted to, but Bucky would keep you safe. He knocked on your door, heart fluttering in anticipation.
You opened the door keeping the chain in place, smart girl.
“Can I help you?” You seemed confused.
“My name is Bucky. I’ve noticed you around and I thought we could talk, get to know each other.”
Bucky showed you the take-out bag hoping to entice you to open the door.
“I’m sorry I don’t know you and I have a boyfriend.” You started to close the door and Bucky felt his anger flare.
He put his metal arm out to stop the door from shutting.
“He doesn’t love you. Not like I do.”
Bucky pushed open the door, snapping the metal chain easily. He watched you stumble backward towards your couch. As Bucky pushed his way inside he placed the bag on the floor and stalked over to you. You were backing up with a look of fear in your eyes.
“Don’t be scared doll, I just wanted to talk. Your boyfriend was taking credit for my gifts. He doesn’t care about you, doesn’t listen to you. I do though, I know everything about you,” Bucky promised, bending down to touch your face. When you flinched Bucky grew impatient.
“I see how needy he leaves you. Can’t even get you off. I watch you wait until he’s fucked himself unconscious only to need to finish what he started. You need a man who can worship you, and that’s all I’m trying to do doll.”
You moved to run past him but Bucky caught you by the ankle, sending you crashing to the ground.
“I just want to show you what you could have. I would take care of you.” Bucky pulled you towards his body, caging you in. “I wanted to take this slow, but it looks like I’m going to have to show you how I feel.”
Bucky pulled the backpack off and unzipped it, letting several notebooks fall to the floor. All containing details of you, what you liked to eat, where you liked to go after work, where you touched yourself, and how long each orgasm took. You turned your head and saw each page with dates and times, each book looked to be in chronological order. Bucky could see the sweat on your hairline and bent down to kiss your forehead.
“See? I notice you. I see you. I make sure I write it all down so I don’t forget,”
Bucky explained as he pushed the notebooks away and grabbed your arms. “I will be better for you. I’m stronger,I can protect you, keep you safe.”
Bucky saw the way your eyes darted around as if looking for a way out. Only they would never find one. Now that he had you, he had no intention of letting you go.

Title: Little Traveller
Summary: While staying at an inn, you sleepwalk, leaving a very uneasy Geralt to come and find you.
Words: 2088
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Geralt of Rivia shot up in bed the moment the first knock at the door sounded in the room. He reached under his pillow and pulled out the dagger with practised ease, whipping it in front of him with eyes ready for anything.
The knock echoed again, along with an almost frantic “Mister Witcher!” and he allowed himself to relax only slightly, realising there seemed to be no visible danger. That relaxation was extremely short-lived however, as the moment he instinctively turned his head to the space next to him in bed and noticed it was empty, that fear rose up in his chest once more like a phoenix from its ashes.
He spun his head around, eyes already having adapted to the darkness of the room, searching wildly. That hand rapped against the thin wood of the door and he snarled, shoving the blankets off and swinging his legs over the side of the bed.
The creaking floor felt like ice under his bare feet, but he ignored it, grabbing up his sword leaning by the bedside table and striding to the door. He opened it harshly, and a woman immediately stepped back, gasping a little, hand poised to knock yet again.
“What?” he snapped, a bite to his voice that would typically have sent anyone running. The woman, who he vaguely recognised as the innkeeper’s wife, thankfully took that as desperation, and quickly set to answering him.
“I’m sorry to wake you, Sir,” she spoke quickly, “but-but I saw your daughter come down the stairs and head outside. I tried to stop her and ask if she was okay, but I think she must be sleepwalking. She didn’t seem responsive at all.”
Geralt’s mind had been whirring since the moment the woman began talking, and by the time she had finished, he had already slammed the door shut. He briskly made his way down the corridor, sword in hand, the woman lingering helplessly still by the door. If he wasn’t so worried, he may have thanked her for the information, but his sole thought was on finding you and ensuring your safety, as it forever had been. The woman had said she’d seen you go outside, so he headed there once he’d gone downstairs.
“Fuck,” he breathed out once the bitter air hit him. His loose hair, tangled from his hours of sleep, blew about his face like a thin curtain as he walked briskly out into the cold, dark night. His sharp eyes began searching, darting this way and that, peering urgently through shadowy trees and along the cobbled paths whose stones dug unforgivably into his feet.
His main concern was that somebody would see a young girl walking alone and vulnerable in the dead of night and view it as a perfect opportunity to grab her up and take her away. It was utterly quiet outside, save for the distant hooting of a barn owl and the snuffling of what was likely a family of foxes nearby, but that of course could never rule out the possibility that the one place a stranger happened to be was also coincidentally where you had ended up.
An irritated and slightly fearful noise wrangled from his throat as he stopped in the middle of a deserted path, twisting in a circle, his palms growing sweaty even in the frigid wind. The loose tunic he wore flapped in the breeze, and he began to feel the first drops of an inevitable rainfall strike his skin.
For the first time in a long time, he felt his heart race abnormally, pounding against his rib cage as he continued to scan his surroundings. Sleepwalking. Never in your life had you sleepwalked, and yet here you were, your first time, and you were scaring him nearly half to his impossible death.
When a quiet cry sliced through the silent air, his head spun around, and his eyes just about made out the sight of someone stood by a tree. Quickly and with all the speed of nature and experience, he ran, feeling his heart skip a beat and yet die down the smallest bit at the same time, likely from relief from realising it was you. He made it to you quickly, dropping his sword to the floor once he was close enough. You clearly looked disoriented, and you were holding your left leg slightly bent at the knee, a hand grasping at the wood of the tree bark beside you. Just like him, you were in your sleeping clothes, though he could see your lips bluing and you were trembling like a leaf.
He slowed when he was a few feet from you, taking in everything. You looked fine, as far as he could tell, apart from the stunned uncertainty obscuring your face. Your eyes were glassy, probably the first of the tears brought on by overpowering confusion even within sleep, and he did not wish for them to get any glassier. He slowed his pace even further, watching you astutely.
Unsurprisingly, you jumped when you sensed someone beside you, and it took a few seconds for you to truly understand who it was, but the moment you did and a wave of realisation washed over your face, Geralt figured it safe enough to move closer. He’d heard somewhere that waking a sleepwalker wasn’t entirely recommended, and for that reason he had been prepared to follow you until you woke yourself, ensuring you didn’t hurt yourself or find yourself in danger. But it seemed you’d moved past the stage of waking up, and he could only thank the gods that he’d made it to you in time for that.
He knelt to the ground—you were short enough to only stand a little higher than him when he was on his knees—and gently grasped your forearms, watching with a slightly creased forehead as you slowly gazed around, attempting to make sense of your surroundings. You were frowning, and he could practically hear your heart racing like a rabbit before you spoke.
“Geralt…” you murmured dazedly. “I-I thought we slept at an inn.” You shivered as a breeze blew past you and he quickly yet cautiously pulled you into his arms, wrapping you up tightly in his hold and rubbing your back. You shuddered almost violently against him, tucking your head under his chin and shutting your eyes as your clouded mind worked away, turning stiff cogs and grinding rusty gears. You grasped onto his shirt, encasing your frozen hands in it to better warm them, not protesting in the least when he shifted to sit back against the tree you’d conveniently woken beside. You lay nested in his lap, a tiny ball of overwhelmed hesitancy, taking in your witcher’s warmth and trying to work out exactly where you were and why you couldn’t remember making the journey there.
“You,” Geralt said, still rubbing your back, “were sleepwalking. And you worried me.”
You opened your eyes, blinking. “Me?”
“Yes, you.” He moved his legs, bending them slightly, and frowned when he saw a small patch of red on his trousers. Peering closer, he could tell it was blood, and he knew it had not come from him. He looked down at you, brushing hair back from your face. “Are you hurt?” he asked, remembering the little cry he’d heard earlier which had alerted him to where you were, and the way you’d been holding your leg up. Before you could even answer, he slid his hand to your ankle and turned it gently. You winced against him, noticing the sharp stone sticking from the sole of your foot just as he did.
“This is what happens when you go outside without boots on,” he said not at all maliciously, expression softening when he saw your face fall. “I was teasing, Y/N,” he assured you. “But I need you to hold still while I pull this out.”
Your face fell even more at that, and you buried it back into his chest with a pitiful whine. Geralt carded his fingers through your hair as a comfort while he moved you somewhat on his lap, holding your foot at an angle that would likely prove to be uncomfortable soon enough. It was a small stone, and he doubted the wound would require stitches or any further medical assistance than the strip of fabric he’d ripped from the bottom of his shirt to tie around it. The blood on your foot was drying, and the flow seemed to have stopped quickly.
Gently grasping the stone with two fingers, he silently counted to three before tugging hard, pulling it free in a second and garnering no more than a tiny jerk and a quiet mewl of pain from you. He was quick, letting go of you for a mere moment in order to tie the makeshift bandage firmly around your foot, but his arm returned to hold you once more.
More and more frosty drops of rain were falling from the visible storm clouds above, and Geralt knew he’d have to take you inside eventually, especially considering your body—and his, for that matter—wasn’t getting much warmer, but he knew to move you now would only disorient you further.
“I didn’t know I could sleepwalk,” he heard you mumble a second later.
“Anyone can sleepwalk,” he said.
“Did I really walk all the way out here while sleeping?”
“Apparently. A woman came knocking at the door, saying she’d seen you come outside.”
You cuddled up to him. “I feel weird.”
“Let yourself work it out,” he told you lightly. “Your mind’s not used to falling asleep in one place and waking in another.” You sniffled and he sighed, leaning his head back against the tree and praising the little protection it offered the both of you from the wind and the oncoming rainstorm. No doubt it would be a sight to see by anyone who happened to walk outdoors—a man and a girl, both in sleeping clothes and barefoot, looking all but unruly, sitting against an oak tree in the stormy night—and so he was grateful for the fact everyone normal was asleep.
“Sorry for scaring you,” you muttered barely audibly.
“It wasn’t your fault,” he assured you. “Though I still hope you won’t be making a habit of this. Maybe I should tie you to the bed to make sure you don’t wander off, hm?” He glanced down at you, amusement gleaming in his eyes, and you smiled around a yawn.
“That seems a bit much.”
Geralt hummed. “Perhaps a cage,” he suggested airily.
“You’d lock me in a cage?” You drearily opened your eyes to stare up at him accusingly.
“To save myself from being woken in the night and having to run out in the wind and the rain to find you?” He rose an eyebrow. “More likely than you think.” A light giggle left your lips and he smiled, resting his chin on the top of your head. Life with a little companion certainly was a life to be reckoned with. It was never boring, that was for sure. Though of course, you didn’t have to ask to know that he’d follow you to the ends of the earth, even while sleepwalking.
He shook his head as a drop of rain splashed on his nose and peered up at the sky to see more tumbling down from the grey clouds. Sleeping outside more often than not of course meant he—and you, for that matter—was well accustomed to the trials and tribulations of bad weather, but when you’d been wandering outside for who knew how long, was slightly injured, and a warm bed was waiting inside for the both of you, there really was no reason to remain outside longer than necessary.
And so he moved, working past your exhaustedly limp form in order to lift you up and into his arms before he stood to his feet, taking his sword in one hand and holding your with the other. Your own arms wrapped around his neck, and you rested the side of your head against his shoulder, staying as close to the warmth his body still offered as possible.
He walked slowly, his feet twinging a little with each step, but he didn’t find himself overly bothered now he had you in his arms. He turned to look at you, pressing a small kiss to your forehead.
“Let’s get you back to bed, little traveller.”

Aches
Fenris x Hawke (G)
1850 words of banter about old injuries between even older friends. Mentions of alcohol, spiders, and aging.
Read on AO3
~
When Bethany summoned ice from thin air, Varric reflected for the umpteenth time what a fantastic waste locking up all the mages had been for all those years.
“Thank you, Sunshine,” he said while scooping it into a handkerchief.  It would soak through eventually, but it was going to get the job done.
Hawke watched him with a raised eyebrow. “Was I the only one who thought the ice was for our drinks?”
“Ice in wine? Yes,” Fenris replied.
“I don’t know, it might have been nice to try it cold. Something new?”
Fenris shook his head.
“I’m an old man now,” Varric explained as he tied a knot to hold the ice in, “I have aches and pains, and in my time in the charming south, ice helped.”
“What aches?” Bethany asked.
“My wrist,” he replied. He rolled his eyes at Hawke’s failure to hide a childish smile. “There’s a cranking motion I have to do for Bianca and—”
Hawke was no longer pretending to listen seriously, giggling to herself, and Varric put his hands back on the table, regretting his choice to act out the motion in the air for more than just the predictable pain that came with it. He set the ice to do its work.
“Tell me more about how you crank Bianca,” Hawke said with a flutter of her eyelashes.
He shook his head. “I know I’m not the only one here suffering. Come on, Hawke, you’re practically a walking bruise at this point. Maybe you’d like to be put on ice for a bit.”
She grinned. “Well there was the old shoulder injury. And the knee injury, of course. Every time it rains it starts creaking. And I really did roll that one ankle too many times. It seems always on the verge of rolling again.” Bethany quietly began summoning more ice as she spoke. ”And, well who could forget my back that one time, except that the answer was all of you forgot my back or nothing would have happened to it in the first place…”
“Yeah, yeah.”
Bethany tied up the ice and handed it to her sister, who only used it to gesture in the air as she said, “Honestly, at this point I take a healing potion prior to fighting just so I can make the stabbing motion without wincing. And I’m still not half as fast as I used to be.”
Fenris raised an eyebrow. “I thought that was whisky.”
“You thought I was getting drunk before fights?”
He nodded. “I was worried about you. Now I know you are in too much pain to hold a blade. That’s much better.”
“Not after I take one of these,” Hawke said, wiggling a small vial in front of him. She seemed to remember the ice in her other hand at that point and after some consideration she balanced it on her right elbow, her smile fading into consternation. “And then take three more the minute we’re done, or I’d have to make you carry me home.”
“Give me that—” Bethany said, snatching the vial before Hawke had the chance to protest. She swirled it in the light, popped the cork to delicately sniff it, then sighed. “You really shouldn’t be taking four of these in one day.”
Hawke snatched it back with her tongue stuck out. “It’s better than taking a knife to the gut, but I’ll keep that in mind. Not all of us can shove healing magic into our shoulders after every fight.”
“Maker, don’t remind me. All that twirling has taken its toll.” She sighed. “And Alistair—all that plate mail on his big body—his knees are practically dust at this point. I think magic is all that’s holding them together.”
Hawke laughed and offered her elbow to Bethany, who prodded at it a bit with some magic. Fenris was conspicuously silent through all of this, and Varric just couldn’t help poking.
“What about you, elf?” he asked, “Where’s your worst pain? No, don’t tell me. It’s either the shoulder or the elbow, and my money’s on the elbow.”
Fenris took a slow drink of ale, and Hawke, to her credit, didn’t shout out the answer. “I may not know my age,” Fenris drawled, “But I am now certain I am younger than all of you. My joints are fine.”
Hawke laughed. “Maker, but you were a haggard teenager when we found you,” she snickered.
“Bull shit,” Varric replied. “And here’s how I know it’s bullshit and that it’s your elbow. I haven’t seen you do that over-the-head hack move in two years. Now I know you’re strong enough to lift that enormous sword of yours, but I’m guessing your elbow won’t let you do the follow-through.”
Fenris shrugged. “It was an inefficient maneuver,” he replied simply to Hawke’s giggles.
Bethany, who had prepared yet another handkerchief full of ice, turned to Varric and asked, “Should we play pin the ice pack on the elf? Honestly I’m guessing there are no wrong answers.”
Of course, with her time spent healing, she had an eye for these things. She leaned over and whispered in Varric’s ear.
He grinned. “Alright Mister-Younger-Than-The-Rest-of-Us, let’s have a demonstration of your peak physical condition. We’ll start with something nice and easy. Put your hand all the way up in the air, as far as it will go.”
Fenris rolled his eyes and started to raise his hand.
“The other hand,” Varric and Bethany protested at the same time.
Fenris considered the hand currently holding his cup of wine. “No.”
Hawke accepted the ice pack from Bethany and placed it on his shoulder for him.  “I really thought I’d be much older when all my conversations devolved into what hurt where and how bad,” she said, Seems like a conversation for people with white hair.”
Fenris gave her a very pointed look.
“I mean like Varric,” she sighed. “He’s not nearly gray enough for this conversation.”
“Thanks, Hawke.”
“Any time. Anyway I suppose we’ll really be lost when we start arguing over whose pain is the worst.”
“It’s you,” Bethany said simultaneously with Fenris’s “Yours is.”
Varric, who might have enjoyed a great sympathy for his poor wrist that started the entire conversation, had to agree. “We all saw—”
“Don’t bring up the Arishok,” Hawke interrupted flatly, “I’m so tired of talking about the blasted Arishok—”
“That golem-looking thing in the Deep Roads that crushed your foot,” he finished.
“I was going to say that time a Maker’s Fist blasted her right off a cliff on the Wounded Coast,” Bethany said, “I think she hit every shrub on the way down.”
“I was thinking of the Arishok,” Fenris said.
Hawke elbowed him.
“We all had our fair share,” she said, “What about that time Merrill got that spider bite and we had to carry her home?”
“That was nothing,” Varric said, “She was fine by the time we got back, but I think she was enjoying the ride. Void, she probably weighs less than Bianca, so it wasn’t some big imposition or anything. Whoever had to carry her staff got the worse end of that deal.”
“What about when Isabela got that nasty burn? I can still remember the smell,” Bethany said, scrunching up her nose.
“But you healed that in about a minute,” Hawke said, “She hardly suffered at all.”
The rest of the evening was spent arguing over not over which injury was the most grievous, but which injury was the stupidest in their history. Isabela’s hand blowing up twice its usual size because of what turned out to be a very infected splinter was right up there with the time a crab snapped Fenris’s bare toes and refused to let go until Varric bolted it. Varric personally felt that while Isabela’s injury was more serious, Fenris deserved the crown because he could have just done his lyrium thing at any moment to get away, but instead hopped around like an idiot for a solid minute before Hawke got him to hold still.
Regardless, the ice eventually melted, leaving them all a little soggy, a little nostalgic, and definitely ready for bed.
~
In their bedroom, after their slow, verbose goodbyes to friends and family that involved Hawke hugging everyone at least three times, including Fenris who was going nowhere, Fenris asked Hawke, “So what happens now?”
She frowned. “Well I was going to peel off this shirt and toss it in the hamper, and then normally I would take two more of these so I could go to bed, but Bethy just told me to limit myself to four.”
Fenris stared at the potion in her hand. “You’ve already had—that is not what she said—”
“Maybe a bath?” Hawke continued as if he had said nothing at all, “With those fizzy salts. That should help, right? Everyone always says those help. Have a bunch stored in a drawer somewhere.”
“No, I meant…” They had slowed down. Fenris had been mostly joking about the whisky, but he hadn’t really registered the extent to which Hawke was in pain. They were both in pain. “Are we…?” He didn’t even know how to phrase the question. What were they if not mercenaries, champions, and warriors? “Are we done?”
“With fighting?” She tossed her shirt away with a small grunt. “Maker, yes. That’s done. We’re old, it’s over, you couldn’t pay me to pick up my blades again, which no one does anymore anyway. May they rust wherever I dropped them last time we came home.”
He nodded, though he couldn’t quite tell if Hawke was serious or not. “Just like that?” he asked.
Hesitating a little, her flippant attitude smoothed into sincerity as she walked over to him and rested her arms over his shoulders.  “Do you remember that time you got bashed over the head?”
“Not really, no,” he replied very honestly.
“Right. Of course. I do, though, and after tonight’s conversation, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. The slower I get, the stiffer I get, the greater the chance it happens again. Only this time I might not finish off our assailants on my own, or get you to the healer in time, or be able to carry you at all if I have to.”
Fenris rolled his bad shoulder. That thought had crossed his mind once or twice, that should extraordinary circumstances occur as they often did around Hawke, there was less certainty of them prevailing. Still, he didn’t know what a future of quiet peace looked like.
Perhaps it looked like Hawke, slowly undressing as she spoke.
“So I’m done,” she continued, “Didn’t realize it until tonight, but I am serious. Someone else can clean up Darktown or mend the Wounded Coast. I’ll be in the bath, with my salts.” She tossed the rest of her clothes and sauntered toward the bath, pausing to look back at him. “Are you coming?”
Questions of the future aside, what could Fenris do but follow? She had certainly led him to worse places before. “Always.”

- @pirateismywayofspeaking who is a literal genius.
This will be a multichapter piece! So lemme know if you want to be tagged in subsequent chapters.
—————————-
Usually, when terrible things happen, people say the same few things: “I never thought it would happen to me! You never think something like this will happen to you until it does!”. You’d never really been that type of person. You were naturally cautious, and an ex FBI agent, you saw danger pretty much everywhere. You’d seen some of the worst things human beings could ever do to one another and, if you’d learned anything at all, it was that bad things happened everywhere and to pretty much everyone. There was nowhere that you could definitively say was safe from violent crime, but this was just ridiculous.
You looked around the ruined bookshop you’d poured the last year of your life into with a kind of detached sadness. Even before you opened the door, you could see the carnage. The shelves were upended, tables flipped, every vase in the building was smashed...except one. You sighed, stepping into the store, your eyes scanning the wreck with a practiced efficiency. No broken windows, the door was still locked when you’d arrived and your security cameras were blacked out, there were no signs of forced entry. If anything that made you more uneasy and, not for the first time since you’d left the bureau, you missed the weight of your gun against your hip. You crinkled your nose against the smell, the copper-iron of fresh blood that you were all too familiar with as you crept through your store.
“Son of a-fuck!” You swore loudly, cursing your luck as you took in the scene.
There was a body laid out in the middle of the Fiction aisle: face covered with a burlap sack, wrists and ankles bound with rope and blood seeping into the carpets you’d just had cleaned. Your training kicked in and you noticed, without meaning to, that the rest of the aisle was untouched. The shelves were upright, books in order, even the vase of white roses you’d put there the night before were all completely the way you’d left them. It was like he’d just completely bypassed the entire section.
Huh.
You looked up at the sky, “Really? Right now? You throw this at me, now? Unbelievable.”
There was a sinking feeling in the pit of your chest, along with a nervousness that you were telling yourself was irritation as you pulled out your phone. It had been a long while since you’d done this, but you still knew the number by heart.
“This is agent Jareau with the Behavioural Analysis Unit.”
“JJ, it’s me,” you said, “you’re not gonna believe this.”
——————————
You sat in the ruins of your store until the cops arrived, wondering who exactly you had murdered in a past life to end up with this kind of luck. You gave your statement without much incident, directing CSU to the body and alerting the detective to the abnormalities you’d spotted.
JJ had promised to get the team on the case as quickly as she could, and you knew JJ tended to get exactly what she wanted in that regard, you just didn’t know how you felt about that. It had been over a year since you’d left the BAU, since you’d done one case too many and just got fed all the way up. It really wasn’t any deeper than that. One day you’d come home and found that you couldn’t sleep. It had all just become too much, so you packed up your stuff, tendered your resignation, and started over.
It had been hard at first, but now you owned a fairly successful bookstore with a little coffee shop where you sold good coffee, and homemade biscuits. And it was nice. You felt good, kinda. You definitely slept better at night. Your life was finally starting to feel normal and now this? A dead body just happens to appear in the center of your bookstore in just weird enough a way to warrant a call to the BAU? No, you’d seen too much to consider this a coincidence. Whether you liked it or not, you were about to get thrown back into your old life head first, the life you’d worked so hard to get some distance from. So why weren’t you more...upset?
“Y/L/N?” A familiar voice called.
“In here,” you answered, your voice raspy from disuse. You cleared your throat and pushed yourself up onto your feet, “I’m in here.” You tried again.
The figures who stepped in were painfully familiar and you couldn’t help the tired smile that slid onto your face, your eyes going directly to the blonde woman walking at the very front.
“Y/N!” She greeted, her voice dripping with relief as she pulled you into a hug, “Are you alright?”
“I’m fine, JJ,” you assured her as you broke apart, the rest of your old team filing in behind her.
She eyed you like she wasn’t sure, pressing her lips into a thin line as she looked around the trashed store. Derek Morgan swooped in behind her, giving you a second hug.
“Long time, Y/L/N,” he smiled.
You sighed, “Wish it was under better circumstances, Morgs, but I’m glad you guys are here.”
“Y/L/N,” Aaron Hotchner greeted, giving you a firm handshake.
“Thanks for coming, Hotch, I’m sorry. I didn’t know what else to do.” You admitted.
“No, you made the right call. The BAU has officially taken on the case. Reid, Prentiss and Rossi are coordinating with the local PD from our headquarters, the rest of us are here to help,” he said, pausing and meeting your eye, silently asking the question you’d been waiting all morning for.
“No sign of forced entry,” you started, “the front door was still locked from the outside when I arrived.” You walked him through the crime scene, glass crunching beneath your feet as you went, “It looks like someone sprayed black paint over the security cameras I had installed, everything’s been smashed but there’s no cash missing from the register. In fact, they barely touched the front desk at all.” You explained, “And this,” you gestured at the Fiction aisle, “is where I found the body.”
Morgan stepped forward and, just like that, the team moved like a well oiled machine.
“White male, looks like he’s between the ages of 19 and 27.” Morgan started.
“His wrists and ankles are bound, but it doesn’t look like he struggled against his restraints at all,” you cut in, without meaning to, crouching down beside the body, “it could mean he was tied up postmortem.”
“We’ll have to wait on the M.E’s report to know for sure,” Hotch agreed, “Y/L/N, can I talk to you?” You nodded and let him pull you aside. He glanced over your shoulder and lowered his voice, “I know you’re out and we can do this investigation without you-“
“But?” You probed.
The corners of Hotch’s mouth twitched, like he wanted to smile, “But, I would also welcome your help if you’re willing to give it. The team is still a man down and, something about this scene has me thinking-“
“That whoever did this isn’t finished,” you agreed, sighing as you ran your fingers through your hair.
Everything was so messed up in your head. You just wanted to go back to bed and start this day all over again. Hotch looked at you and you recognized his brand of quiet concern. It was familiar and comforting, and it helped you process your thoughts.
“I can’t believe I’m saying this,” you frowned, “yeah. Yeah, sure, I’ll come back.” Hotch smiled and you wagged a finger at him, “But just for this one case! After that I’m straight back to my boring normal person life, alright?”
“Of course,” he agreed, something almost mocking in his tone.
“I’m serious, Hotch, just one more case.”
“I’m agreeing with you!” He insisted, already walking back to the rest of the group.
But he wasn’t and, much to your chagrin, you felt the familiar rush of adrenaline as you turned back to the scene of the crime.
“Hotch, Y/L/N,” Morgan called, holding something in his gloved hand, “you’re gonna want to see this.”
“Here we go again,” you sighed.
————————-
Walking back into the BAU had felt like stepping back in time. After you’d gotten everything you could from the crime scene there was nothing to do but brainstorm, but walking through those doors again...well, let’s say you hadn’t been prepared for how it would feel being back. For the most part, everyone had been glad to see you, especially Garcia, but you could tell that there were still some resentments bubbling under the surface. It made sense, the BAU survived by relying on one another, by acting like a family, and you’d left that family.
Still, there was a rhythm to this kind of work, a flow that was almost painfully easy to fall back into. You’d worked together for years after all, bouncing ideas off of one another like it was nothing and that kind of bond didn’t just go away.
“Admit it,” Derek teased, bumping your shoulder with his as you studied the evidence board, “you missed this.”
“I most certainly did not.”
“Oh you so did,” Spencer agreed, leaning against the table next to you and giving you a fond smile, “I’m sorry about the bookstore though, it was the only store in town with a proper selection of classics in their original languages.”
You shrugged, “I’ll get it up and running again soon enough, just as soon as we catch whoever did this.”
“Speaking of our UnSub, what do you think the relevance of him leaving the body in the fiction section is?” Spencer asked.
“Maybe he’s trying to say that this is some kind of fairytale?” Prentiss suggested, “Like he’s trying to draw us into his story?”
“Maybe, but this has gotta be more personal than that, right?” Morgan said, “I mean, this isn’t some body in an alley, it was dumped in an FBI agent’s coffee shop.”
“Ex agent,” you corrected.
“Sure thing, Princess,” Morgan teased.
“Why does everyone keep talking like that?” You asked.
“Because you leaving is ridiculous. You love this job,” He replied simply, “you’ve always loved this job.”
You opened your mouth to respond but, before you could, you heard the clacking of heels against the marble floor.
“Um, guys?” Garcia said, coming into the bullpen with a stormy look on her face, “we just got word from the officer who went to Y/N’s apartment.”
“And?” You asked nervously.
“They found something,”
“Another body?” Prentiss asked.
“No, weirder, a letter and what looks like a smiley face drawn on the wall in blood.” She said, pressing a button to display the new crime scene photos on the big screen.
Your heart froze in your chest.
There it was; a crude smiley face drawn right above your headboard and a crisp white envelope resting against your pillow. He’d made your bed too, some small part of your mind noted. How polite. Instinctively, you crossed your arms over your chest as you were hit with a mixture of panic and disgust.
“Of course,” you sighed, “of course there is. Why wouldn’t there be? It’s been that kind of day.”
“Do we know what the letter says?” Morgan asked.
Garcia nodded, “And it’s a doozy. The letter contains a poem written with letters cut out from magazines and newspapers. It reads:
Since there’s no help, come let us kiss and part.
Nay, I have done, you get no more of me;
And I am glad, yea glad with all my heart,
That thus so cleanly I myself can free.
Shake hands for ever, cancel all our vows,
And when we meet at any time again,
Be it not seen in either of our brows
That we one jot of former love retain …”
You could feel your friends staring and you tried to keep your face as neutral as possible. Your skin felt like it was on fire, and you could hear the blood pounding in your ears as you thought of a murderer setting foot in your space; him touching your bed, running his hands over the photos on your nightstand, defiling your possessions with his presence. You’d never felt so vulnerable and exposed, and bile rose up in your stomach like your body was physically rejecting the whole thing. Distantly you heard Prentiss and Morgan discussing theories, and you felt one pair of warm brown eyes staring into the side of your head.
Suddenly, you didn’t feel like joking around anymore.
“Sorry,” you muttered, standing up and striding out of the room without looking back, “I need some air.”
You were so angry by the time you made it out into the courtyard that you’d balled your hands into fists and your breath was coming out in short little bursts. Hot tears pricked at the corners of your eyes and your chest felt painfully tight.
“Y/N?” You heard Spencer ask.
You sniffed, wiping your face quickly, “Reid, hi. Sorry, I just-“ you let out a slow breath, “I needed a break.”
He nodded like he understood, tucking his hands into his pockets as he stepped towards you. You wanted to tell him to go away, to head back inside and leave you the hell alone, but the words wouldn’t come.
It had always been like this with Spencer. No matter how hard you tried to be tough and brave and put together, he saw right through you and broke down your defenses. At one point, he’d been the closest thing to family you’d ever had, in fact you thought you might…..
Well, it didn’t matter now. Over the last year things had changed, you’d grown apart. It happened, but the fondness was still there, and the trust, and those damn eyes.
“I get it, Y/N, I can't even imagine what this whole thing must be like for you,” he said, “having your home be violated like that….and the store?” He shook his head, “I know how hard you worked setting that place up.”
Your bottom lip trembled and, for the first time that day, you let yourself feel afraid as tears slipped down your cheeks.
You shook your head, “You know, when I saw the glass all over the floor, and all the books….I just felt tired, like bone tired. I wasn’t scared of that, but now?” You paused, glancing up at Spencer, as a tear slid down your cheek, “He was in my home, Spencer. He made my bed before he left, he wrote me a letter.”
Spencer worked his jaw and hesitantly reached out, touching your shoulder gently.
“We’ll catch him, Y/N/N, we always do.” He promised.
“And until then?” You asked, “Do I just pretend it never happened? Go home and act like it’s all okay?”
“No,” another voice cut in from behind you, “you rely on us. We’ll take care of you,” Morgan explained.
“Yeah,” Garcia agreed, her big blue eyes clinging to yours, “We’ve talked about it already. You’ll take turns staying with each of us a few nights a week and then, on the weekends, we’ll all stay with Rossi to go over the case. And we’ll spend every free moment tracking this son of a bitch down for you.”
Emily nodded and, for the first time since you had opened your store that morning, you felt your chest swell with something a little like hope. You knew the BAU was special, you knew that the bonds you’d formed over the years were damn near unbreakable, but this? This was too much. Seeing your friends rally around you when you needed them most just reminded you how much you loved them, and how much they still loved you. Even now. Spencer gave your shoulder a squeeze and you smiled back at him.
“I really missed you guys,” you said with a watery laugh.
Penelope crooned and threw her arms around your neck, pulling you into a familiarly bone-crushing hug.
“We missed you too, Sugar Plum,” she promised.
“Really?”
“Hell yeah!” Morgan smiled, joining Penelope’s hug.
“You know we did,” Emily agreed, ruffling your hair and pulling herself in close.
Your eyes found Spencer where he was standing just outside of the group hug, both hands in his pockets and a sad smile on his face. You pressed your lips together and, in response, he nodded.
“We missed you,” he said softly and then, as the hug broke up and you allude your way back inside, even softer, “we still do.”

siren | a writer’s choice bingo fill
writer’s choice bingo masterpost rating: mature warnings: none
For a hunter, Dean’s frequent visits to the monster bar are unusual, to say the least. His profession tends to not mingle with monsters, even though the ones that frequent this place are the ones that live amongst humans without any issue. Dean doesn’t care, though. He’s met good friends through here and even had a few flings with some of them. He feels more at home here than he does in a hunter crowd, and he’s not really sure if he should feel as comfortable as he does about that fact.
Doesn’t stop him from looking for someone to spend the night with, though. It’s been too long since he’s had someone underneath him—or been underneath someone, frankly—so he’s nursing a single beer as he looks for someone that piques his interest.
It doesn’t take long. A dark-haired man walks through the door within fifteen minutes of Dean sitting down and he looks perfect. Dean doesn’t even hesitate to grab his beer and vacate his table, sidling up to the man at the bar.
“Hey there, gorgeous. Let me buy you a drink?”
The man turns to look at him and Dean can’t help but feel a little self-conscious as the stranger’s eyes skim the length of his body. “You can’t buy me the kind of drink I want.”
Dean frowns. This is a monster bar, so if the guy’s looking for blood or something, that’s not exactly an odd request. “You sure about that?”
The stranger smirks, leaning against the counter and raising an eyebrow at Dean. “Unless you’re prepared to ingest my venom and allow me to feed off your adoration for the next several hours, yes, I’m positive.”
Dean’s brain short-circuits at that because honestly… he wouldn’t be opposed. It must show on his face because the man tilts his head as he watches Dean. “Siren, right?” The man nods, so Dean clears his throat and finishes what’s left of his beer. “Then let’s get out of here.”
Dean catches the bartender’s eye and closes out his tab, turning back to the man. “I’m Dean, by the way.”
“Castiel,” the man answers with a wry smile. “How do I know you don’t have a bronze knife on you somewhere?”
Dean can’t help but smirk. “You can pat me down when we get to where we’re going, hm? My motel isn’t far.”
Castiel hums, nodding once as he turns to leave. Dean grins and slips his jacket on, following him to the parking lot. After a short discussion about the logistics of getting to Dean’s motel, they both pile into the Impala and Dean pulls onto the road.
“Do I even want to know how many daggers you’ve got in here?”
Dean laughs. “Four, but they’re all in the trunk. Don’t encounter sirens very often, honestly. Besides, I’d need the blood of one of your victims, right? I doubt you just leave those lying around.”
Castiel quirks an eyebrow. “You do realize if you ingest my venom, you’ll be considered my victim?”
Dean blinks and glances over at Castiel. “Huh. Yeah, I guess you’re right.”
An uncomfortable silence settles between them, so Dean just stays quiet as he drives. He doesn’t really blame Castiel for being nervous. A lot of hunters don’t care about the monsters that live in the gray areas, most are content to kill every monster they come across no matter what. Of course, Castiel would be concerned.
The parking lot is empty when they get there, so Dean parks in front of his room and pops the trunk before climbing out. Castiel watches him curiously, so Dean offers him a small smile and tugs the false door up to reveal his arsenal. “4 bronze daggers there. I’ve got a gun hidden in my room, though that won’t do much to you. Couple of steel knives that I’ll leave out here.” Dean proves his point by grabbing the sheaths from his waist and ankle and tossing them in the trunk.
Castiel chuckles. “I believe you, but thank you. You wouldn’t have been allowed in that bar if you weren’t friendly. Benny takes security seriously and, no offense, I could smell the hunter on you five miles away.”
Dean smirks. “I taste better than I smell, promise.”
Castiel rolls his eyes and follows Dean into his room, depositing his trenchcoat on the chair near the door. “You’re positive you don’t mind? The effect will wear off by morning.”
Dean hums, already beginning to unbutton his flannel. “Not even a little. There a certain way you need to do it?”
Castiel smiles and crosses to Dean in a few long strides, cupping his cheek gently. “A kiss will work just fine.”
Dean’s not sure what he’s supposed to feel when their lips meet, but he definitely doesn’t feel poisoned. Not that he’d know what it felt like anyway—he wasn’t lying when he told Castiel he’d only seen a few sirens in his career. Dean lets himself get lost in the kiss, barely even noticing when Castiel starts to push the flannel off of him. He’s way more on board once Cas starts to unbutton his jeans, his long fingers brushing over the erection already forming in his briefs.
“You’re right, Dean, you do taste better than you smell,” Castiel mumbles, a small smile on his lips as he leans down to kiss Dean again.
~
Dean pulls up to the nondescript apartment building, sitting there for a moment before shutting the car off. He hasn’t seen Castiel for over four months—apparently, the length of time a siren can go without feeding—but Castiel had called out of the blue and asked him to come over. Dean had only been a state over on a hunt, so he’d wrapped up his business there and driven straight to Castiel’s.
He looks weak when he opens the door, and far more pale than the last time Dean had seen him.
“Cas? You okay?”
Castiel smiles weakly, stepping aside to let Dean into the apartment. “I’m alright. I went… longer than I should have without feeding. I wanted to, I just... “ He turns his gaze back to Dean and the unspoken words hang heavy between them. Dean thinks he knows what Castiel was about to say, but he doesn’t want to pry.
“Alright, well let’s get you back to yourself then, hm?”
Castiel smiles gratefully, allowing Dean to draw him into a kiss.
~
It becomes a recurring thing between them. Every month or so, sometimes more often if Dean’s passing through Cas’s state, they’ll meet up and sleep together. Castiel gets his fix of adoration, as he likes to say, and Dean gets a warm, fluffy bed and a good fuck. He can’t complain, even if he does wake up a little bit tired the morning after.
“So, Benny’s hiring,” Dean offers one morning over breakfast. It’s been almost a year since he went home with Castiel for the first time, something he still can’t believe. He’s never actually had a relationship this long, and they’re not even actively in a relationship.
Castiel quirks an eyebrow. “Indeed. I saw the sign on the door.”
Dean hums. “I’d make a good bartender, I think.”
Castiel leans back in his chair and crosses his arms over his chest. “I’m sure you’d be wonderful at it. You want to give up hunting?”
“I’ve been wanting a life outside of hunting recently,” Dean admits with a shrug. “Gets a little too dangerous after a while. Besides, it would be nice to sleep on a comfortable bed like yours every night instead of those shitty motel beds. Or worse, Baby’s back seat.”
Castiel studies his face for a moment before frowning. “I’m sorry, I must have given you too much venom last night. Perhaps you should stay another day.”
“What? No, Cas, I’m being serious. I like it here, I’ve got friends here, I’ve got you—well, not… you know, I… fuck. I didn’t mean it like that.” Dean sighs, running a hand through his hair. “Look, I like you, alright? It’s not because of your venom, it’s because of you.”
Castiel smiles, though it looks sad. “We were up late last night, I’m sure my venom hasn’t worked its way out of your system yet.”
Dean scoffs. “Hey, I can think for myself, thank you very much. Your venom’s not even that potent, man, it’s never made me feel any different.”
Castiel squints at him. “Never?”
“Nope. Why?”
“Well it’s supposed to make you disoriented and passive, so you’ll follow my every order no matter what. It… doesn’t do that?”
Dean snorts. “Follow your every order? God no. If you’re so convinced I’m still poisoned, make me do something.”
Castiel frowns. “I don’t like making people do things. It’s why I’m always so careful with what I say when we’re together.”
“I’m telling you, I’m immune to your venom or something. C’mon, try it.”
It takes a moment, but Castiel eventually acquiesces. “Refill my coffee.”
Dean waits a moment, half expecting to be compelled to refill Castiel’s mug, but nothing happens. Castiel frowns and sits up.
“Kiss me.”
Dean waits again, raising an eyebrow at Castiel. “See? Nothing.”
Castiel frowns. “Stay with me tonight? I want to see if you’re immune after you ingest my venom.”
Dean smirks. “Damn, Cas, if you wanted to fuck me again you coulda just asked.”
Castiel rolls his eyes, though the hint of a blush on his cheeks gives him away. “So you’ll stay?”
Dean hums his agreement, eyes widening as Castiel leans over the table to kiss him. Once again, they both wait, expecting God only knows what to happen, but nothing changes.
“Go get my phone,” Castiel orders. The tone of his voice sends a shiver down Dean’s spine and though he wants to obey, he won’t. Castiel needs the proof. “You’re actually immune,” Castiel breathes, a look of wonder written on his face. “You want to move here to be closer to me of your own free will?”
Dean frowns. “Yeah, man. I like you, Cas. Not your venom.”
Castiel grins, leaning over to kiss him again. “Then just move in with me. I love you, I just didn’t want to force you to be with me.”
Dean blinks. “You love me?”
Castiel chuckles. “Why do you sound so surprised? You’re easy to fall for, Dean.”
Dean grins, pulling Cas in for another kiss, their breakfast entirely forgotten between them. “I’ll go get my stuff out of my car and call Benny.”
Castiel hums. “Later. Right now, we need to celebrate.”
Dean laughs. “Oh? How so?”
Castiel smirks, quickly clearing off one side of the table before lifting Dean onto it and settling between his legs. “Oh, I can think of a few ways.”

(Poe Dameron x Reader): Last Night
Summary: (Y/N) Solo is new to the D’Qar base and meets a certain pilot.
A/N: This is an idea I’d been toying with for a while, the introduction is way too long but I couldn’t bear to cut any of it because I’m kind of obsessed with Solo!Reader now lol (apologies for any spelling or grammar mistakes)
Warning: this fic is 18+ for smut! (also this is my first time publishing like genuine smut so apologizes for how awkward it is)
Tumblr media
To say you were upset would be the understatement of the universe. You were furious. After years of training and countless successful missions, your mother had decided to abruptly transfer you back to her base, on D’Qar.
You’d grown up traveling around the galaxy thanks to your parents. But your mother had sent you to a resistance base in the outer rim, on Dantar when you were a teenager so you could train as a pilot, far out of the reach of your brother and the rest of the First Order.
But now your mother wanted you back with her, on D’Qar, so you could help her. After what? Six? Seven years of seeing your mom only once or twice a year when she came to meet with the vice admiral who ran the base where you were stationed. Seven years of her refusing to meet your eyes all because your brother had betrayed everything your family stood for. She had been punishing you for what he had done, whether she was willing to admit it or not.
She wanted you back. And Leia Organa was the general. So you had no choice to follow her orders.
Lucky for you, one of your close friends was also being transferred with you. Rose had been filing for a transfer to D’Qar for years so she could be on the same base as her sister, and you’d told your mother that if she wanted you on the transport that there needed to be a spot for your best friend too.
That was why both you and Rose were currently being pulled along at the wrist by Rose’s sister, Paige, as she told you all about how the cantina near the base had the best band on the planet — and how she couldn’t wait to introduce you to some of the other pilots.
Your trio strolled up to the bar where you each ordered drinks before a group of people seated at a booth in the corner of the cantina started calling Paige over to them.
“Hey, guys!” Paige said cheerfully as she hugged most of the members of the group, “This is my sister, Rose, that I’ve been telling you about, and of course-
“-(Y/N/N),” You say, cutting Paige off before she can tell them your full name. If there was one thing you knew for sure it was that no one likes to party with the General’s daughter, at least not before they get to know you. Withholding your full name for the time being seemed like the best move, especially since you were looking to have a properly wild night, which was much easier when people didn’t know who you were.
Everyone introduced themselves to you and Rose and you sat down with them. Paige and her friends took turns telling embarrassing stories about each other while you and Rose played the role of the attentive listeners.
As the night wore on, and you had lost count of how many drinks you’d had, people began to get up to go dance. And you were all but ready to turn in for the night when you heard laughing and cheers from a few members of the group who were dancing nearby. You turned towards the commotion to see what could only be described as quite possibly the most beautiful man you’d ever seen.
Eventually, after the man had made his greetings to the people who were out on the dance floor he came over to the table and hugged Paige.
“I don’t think I’ve seen you around,” The man said as his eyes finally landed on you.
“I just got transferred to this base,” you shouted over the music, “my friends call me (Y/N/N),” You tell him as you stuck your hand.
“Poe Dameron,” He introduces himself as he envelopes your hand in his own.
“Oh, I know who you are,” You say with a slight chuckle. Commander Dameron was infamous, you’d heard of him, even on Dantar.
“Best pilot in the resistance,” He quips with a smirk.
You coughed slightly on the drink you’d just taken a sip of. Was this guy seriously so pompous that he would compliment himself? Now you understood all of the rumors, with a face and attitude like that, you were sure that Poe could get anyone in the resistance he wanted.
You cleared your throat before turning back to Poe, “You know, someone once told me that (Y/N) Solo was the best pilot in the resistance.”
“General Organa’s daughter? Pfft, please, she’s just some kid,” He told you with a smug grin, “Just because she’s the General’s daughter and her dad’s Han Solo doesn’t mean she actually knows anything about flying a proper ship.”
Out of the corner of your eye you saw Rose and Paige silently watching your conversation, and the warning look that Rose was giving you. But you didn’t care, you were going to get him back for that comment somehow.
“Do you wanna dance?” You asked as you placed your hand on his forearm.
He nodded with a warm smile before taking your hand in his and leading him towards the thumping music.
As you danced with Poe you slowly began to relax. Maybe this transfer wouldn’t be so bad after all. You let yourself forget everything, the war, your family, all of the expectations that your mother had for you. You forgot them all as you snaked your arms around Poe’s neck and pulled him close to you.
You began to move in sync with one another. His eyes locked in on your own as you inched closer and closer together. Eventually, you couldn’t bear the tension anymore and you kissed him.
You pressed your lips against his as you pushed your fingers up into his thick curls. You pulled slightly, causing him to groan into your mouth. You smirked against his mouth as your tongues tangled together.
Your head spins, and you’re not sure if it's from all the drinking, or the way Poe’s soft lips begin to trail down to the crook of your neck and suck on that sweet spot.
“We should-” Poe mutters against your skin, but you’re already a step ahead of him as you grab his hand from its place on the small of your back and lead him off the dance floor.
You winked at Rose as you tugged Poe by the hand out of the Cantina. You were heading towards your new quarters but Poe seemed to have other intentions because before you were even two steps out the door he had you pushed up against the wall of the building as he feverishly pressed his lips against yours. His breath was hot on your face, his entire body was pressed against yours, only your shins were left to face the biting chill that the night had to offer you.
Eventually, the two managed to break apart.
“Now do you wanna go back to my quarters?” You asked, slightly breathlessly, as you looked up at the dark-haired man.
“Lead the way,” He said with a wolfish grin as you grabbed his hand once again and headed back towards the base.
It took you far longer to get back to your room than it had taken to go to the cantina at the beginning of the night. Mostly because every once and a while Poe had decided it had been far too long since he’d kissed you and the would pull you back into him, distracting you for a moment (or several moments).
Finally, you made it to your room, you were giggling as you finally stumbled through the doorway with Poe’s lips still attached to your neck.
“Woah, how’d you get a room this nice?” He said as he finally looked around.
“Oh, didn’t you know? I’m actually very important,” You tell him with a wry smile as you sit down on the untouched, completely made bed, “Do you want to help me break it in?” You ask as you nod down at the mattress beneath you.
“I’d love nothing more.”
His hands are on you before you can register it. His fingers are pulling at your shirt as he pulls the fabric over your head. You get to work on his belt as he pulls at your bra and palms your breasts.
Poe’s eyes bore into your own as you shrug his jacket off his shoulders and he helps you make quick work of his shirt. You don’t say anything as he tugs your pants down your legs and lets them pool at your ankles.
“Fuck,” You groan as Poe’s fingers finally make contact with your aching core, brushing against your slit over the thin piece of cloth still forming a barrier between you two. His lips make slow work from your knee to your inner thigh, leaving a trail of wet, open mouthed kisses in their wake.
“Please,” You mutter, your voice barely above a whisper as Poe’s fingers continue to tease your clit through your underwear.
Poe smirks up at you before hooking his fingers around the hem of your underwear and finally pulling them down. The cold air hit your already wet cunt and you had to stop yourself from gasping.
Your breath hitched and you can’t help but arch your back off the bed as his mouth attached to your clit. For a moment a thought forms in your mind about how maybe Poe’s cockiness is derived from the godly things he can do with his mouth but then he’s pressing two fingers into you and any coherent thoughts fly out of your brain just as an embarrassingly loud moan flies out of your mouth.
You get hot, so deeply hot as the elastic in your center begins to coil. You’re already close to your climax and Poe shows no signs of stopping.
“I-I’m gonna-”
“Come for me,” He mumbles into your thigh as he looks up at you, and sees just how close you really are.
And all it takes are those sinful words to come out of his mouth, dripping like honey as he looks directly at you.
Your orgasm comes fast and hard as your thighs tremble around Poe’s head, pressing slightly against either side of his neck as he coaxes you through your orgasm. You breathe out a shaky breath before propping yourself up on your elbows and getting a better look at Poe.
He pulls himself up to you and presses a kiss to your lips as you eagerly kiss him back, licking your own come off his mouth as your hand snakes down his torso and into his pants. He’s already hard, and as your fingers begin to stroke around him, over the head, and then back down. Poe grounds in your ear as he presses himself down onto your hand, trying to gain more pressure.
“You’re awfully needy,” You tease as your fingers continue their ministrations.
“Don’t-don’t be a fucking tease,” he grumbles as his hands begin to trail up and down your sides, desperate to feel more of you.
You smirk as you pull your hand out of Poe’s pants and he can’t help but groan in frustration before you make quick work of pulling his pants and underwear down his legs and push them off and throw them on the floor.
Throwing your legs around his thighs you push him down onto the mattress as you straddle him. You brace one arm against his chest as you use the other to guide yourself as you slowly lower yourself down onto his cock.
You’re not sure you’re still breathing as just the feeling of being so full brings up so close to another orgasm already.
You slowly lift yourself up and then back down, easing yourself into a rhythm as you fuck yourself on his cock.
“Fuck baby, you’re so good,” Poe hums as he looks up at you as you bounce on his cock, certain he’s never seen something so ethereal and unbearably attractive.
Poe can’t help but press his thumbs into your hips as he grabs onto your waist and rolls over on top of you, taking control before he begins to relentlessly pound you into the mattress.
“I’m so fucking close, so fucking close,” Poe groans, “Where do you want it?”
“Inside,” You huff as you feel yourself teetering on the precipice of your own orgasm.
And then that thing deep inside you snaps yet again. You think Poe said something, but you can’t hear him over the sound of blood rushing in your ears. Your eyes roll back as Poe continues to thrust into you with stuttering pushes as you ride out your orgasm.
Once you’ve both come (somewhat) back to your senses and your movements slow to a stop Poe unceremoniously pulls out of you before flopping down next to you on the bed.
You sighed, “That was…”
Poe smirks, “Amazing?”
“Don’t let the compliment go to your head, your ego’s already far too big,” You tell him as he wraps his arm around your shoulder and pulls you into his chest.
You feel Poe’s fingers playing with your hair as you slowly drift in and out of sleep, eventually you turn your head up to look at him with a teasing smile, “You can fall asleep, y’know, I’ll be here tomorrow.”
“I want to look at you just a while longer,” Poe replies, causing you to roll your eyes but you curl into him and finally close your eyes and let him lull you to sleep.
-
Poe woke up the next morning, in your bed, only to find you long gone, he suspected that you’d had to be up early to start your first day on the job.
He quickly pulled on his discarded clothes and made his way to his own quarters where he quickly changed into fresh clothes before making his way to the command center for his meeting with General Organa, a meeting he was already running late for.
“Commander Dameron, I want to introduce you to my daughter, (Y/N),” Leia said as she beckoned the pilot over. Poe made his way over to the General but the last thing he was prepared for was for you to turn around and smile at him.
The look on his face was priceless, you wish you had a holo of that moment so you could treasure it forever.
“Do you two know each other?” Leia asked after a beat as she took in both of your expressions.
“We met last night,” You tell your mother innocently, “At the cantina, Rose’s sister took us so she could introduce us to her friends.”.
Smoothing over the awkwardness quickly you turn back to Poe and stick out your hand, “It’s nice to officially meet you, Commander Dameron, I hear we’ll be working together quite closely,”
This was going to be fun.

Hi can I please get Aizawa, Hizashi, Gang Orca and Vlad King when their poor civilian s/o gets injured in a villain attack? Like not super serious but definitely to the point they're in a lot of pain
yeesss! under the cut enjoy ! >:3 i just picked random jobs to give the reader where it fit btw
Shouta Aizawa: “I swear to god you just attract trouble.” Aizawa drops you unceremoniously onto the couch, “don’t you?”  “Clearly, I found you didn't I?” You look up at him and he huffs.  “You need ice.” He stuffs a few pillows under your incredibly swollen and bruised ankle, “what the hell were you doing around here anyway, I thought you were supposed to be at work?”  “I got off early, I was gonna break into your place and surprise you.”  “You can’t break in someplace you have a key for.” He crosses his arms, “well, either way, you’re lucky I was around. If you’d hung out there too much longer who knows what else would have fallen on you, or worse. You need to be more careful.”  “You need to be more careful.” You mimic him in a childish tone and he scoffs. “I may have saved your life and this is how you repay me? What would you have done if I didn’t show up? Make a home in that subway station with your leg stuck under a pile of rocks and a trashed phone? If that villain didn’t get to you the boredom would have.” “I had it handled, thank you.”  You gasp, offended.  “What were you gonna do, finance the villain’s car?” He starts to laugh. “I would have figured it out!” You insist. “You’re an accountant.” He snorts and you frown.  “I’m-” You snap your mouth shut and scowl at him, he laughs some more.  “Is that you trying to look angry with me? Gee, I’m petrified.” He wraps up a bag of ice cubes with a thin cloth and rests in on your ankle. You reach forward to hit him and he jumps back, “Woah, woah, hey, hey no.”  He catches your hand, “you know you’re lucky you have me-okay hey-” Your leering forward with your other hand but he catches that too, “you’re just going to hurt yourself, not me so no hitting- hey! I said no hitting. I’ll stop, alright?” He kisses your knuckles and then sets your hands in your lap, “but you need to rest, it’s only a few bumps and bruises plus  a bum ankle but I’m sure you’re exhausted and in pain.”  You sink into the cushions of his couch, “stop being mean to me, this is kind of your fault you know?”  “Being mean to you? I saved you!” He sighs, “Look. I’m sorry I laughed at you. You’re a very good accountant, I love you and I love that you’re an accountant. I’m sure you would have found your way back here somehow. I shouldn’t underestimate you.” He kisses between your furrowed brows, “so stop looking at me like that and tell me what hurts so I can help.”  “Just my legs.” You promise, “I hit my head but it wasn’t so bad, I don’t think it’s serious.” You reach out for his hands and he lets you take them. “You’re all scraped up.” He sighs, “do you have any idea how worried I was when I saw you stuck in there? It’s like I got tunnel vision.”  “I’m sorry.” You murmur playing with his fingers, running the pad of your thumb over his calloused palm, “if it’s any consolation that’s how I feel about you all the time..”  He snaps his mouth shut. Well, he’d never considered it like that.  “I know..” He sighs and closes his eyes, “and I love you..so...don’t be sorry, just...try not to let it happen again? For my sake and yours. It’s my job to get into trouble so just leave it to the professionals?”  You nod at that and drop your head forward onto his shoulder.  “Okay good. Now let’s get you cleaned up. Come on, you can barely keep your eyes open, go to sleep if you can, I’ll stay here with you while you do.”
Hizashi Yamada: “I told you Zash, it’s really all right.” You let him open the door for you anyway, “the doctors just wanted to be sure I didn’t have any broken bones or anything like that.”  “I should have at least been able to come to get you at the hospital!” He warbles and you smile a little at him.  “You were just doing your job. I understand. Like I said before it wasn’t serious at all, I just dislocated my shoulder, and I’ve got a minor concussion.” You press your fingers to his lips, “so let’s keep it down okay?”  He nods at you, looking just a little awestruck. you smile at him a little wider and take his face in your hand, “you’re sweet, Zashi, thank you for being worried about me.”  “Of course I’m worried.” He shakes his head, “I’m sorry you got hurt in the first place...I can get you some ice for your shoulder and some pain meds, you should try to rest as much as you can.” He holds your waist, “want me to carry you?”  You snort out a laugh at that, “no I think I can manage it babe.”  “Maybe I should come to help you change shirts, they may have reset your shoulder at the hospital but you should still be careful.”  You’re going to say no, that you can handle that too, but he just looks so worried.  “Yeah..I’d really appreciate that Zash. Do you mind?”  He’s about to yell, you can see it in his face, the way he opens his mouth, but it locks shut and he starts shaking his head vigorously instead. “Let me get an icepack and some painkillers and I’ll meet you in there?” You’re pretty proud of his self-restraint. He follows close behind you into your bedroom and starts helping you change into a big, old tee shirt of his, per your request.  “You know..” He starts after pulling the tee-shirt over your head, “what were you doing all the way over here anyway, isn’t your office 3 stops away from here?” “Hm?” You look up at him and ponder for a moment before remembering, “oh, I was going to meet an old coworker from my last gig for lunch, looks like we both got a little wrapped up.” You laugh a little, “he should be alright too. He called me while I was at the hospital, looks like he made it out with just a few scrapes.”  “Wish you were that lucky..” He murmurs smoothing his palm over your head. “Honestly I needed an excuse to ask for a few days off anyhow.” You sit on the edge of your bed and he hums as you continue, “but now that I think about it maybe this is a sign I should just hang out where I am a little longer.” You wave with a laugh. “Were you meeting about a new job?” He perks up at the new bit of information and you shrug. “They have an opening, a charge nurse. He was gonna show me around the floor today after lunch.” You murmur noncomittally, “though now it seems a bit cursed doesn’t it?” You watch him unmake your bed, fluffing up various pillows and pulling the sheets back.  “No way babe, you deserve a better job if you want one. I always say how I think you should be in charge anyhow.” He pats the open space and you laugh but shuffle over to him.  “Yeah..and plus I’d be closer to you.” You look up at him for a reaction as he starts to wrap up the icepack in a cloth. He sputters.  “Well..that’d be nice.”  “Though if you ever get bored of being a hero, you’ve got the makings of a pretty good nurse, then we’d be plenty close, wouldn’t we?”
Gang Orca/Kugo Sakamata: “Are you mad at me?” You ask, partially slung over the taller man’s shoulder.  “I am not mad at you.” He responds flatly.  “You sound a little mad at me.” You murmur, drumming your fingers on the back of his neck, “Come on Kugo, don’t be mad at me.”  “I said I’m not.” He reaches into his pocket for his keys.  “Then stop acting mad at me.” You retort as he unlocks his front door.  “I’m sorry.” Is all he offers to that. You can’t help but grin a little. “My ribs hurt-” You whine and he sighs.  “Yes, well mine would hurt too, if some hopped up villain body-slammed me into a bus. Maybe you should have considered that before jumping in front of a dog-”  “Well, what was I meant to do?!” You warble, knocking your fists off his back, “don’t be such a brute Kugo.”  “I’m not being a brute.” He sits you down on his sort of comically large couch, “I just wish you would have a little more self-preservation.” He kneels in front of you, “is that unfair of me?”  “...no..” You shake your head compliantly.  “Well then there.” He places his hands high up on your thighs, “I can’t help being worried about you when you get hurt, you’re not meant to. I know you like to think you aren’t, but you are just a civilian. And yes, maybe you’re my civilian, but you’re still a civilian. It’s my job to protect you.” He sighs as you take his hands, he continues, “I was cold, I’m sorry.” He apologizes, “you’re right. I shouldn’t have acted upset with you. I was just so worried about you. Do you have any idea how much worse that could have gone? What would have happened if I, or at the very least someone else, wasn’t there to help you?” “Well I..” You don’t know exactly what to say, “I just..moved without thinking. I don’t know..”  “You need to think. For my sake at least.” He takes your face in his hands, “it makes me happy that you wanted to do the right thing, I just wish you’d be less self-destructive when you did it.” He stands up, “let me get you some medicine, you’re probably in a lot of pain. Maybe a warm bath would help the tenderness.” He keeps your face in his hands, pulling you up a bit by your jaw, “does that sound alright my love?” That makes your stomach flutter, a pleasant bubbling floats up into your albeit bruised ribcage as you nod dumbly at your boyfriend.  “I thought it would.” He huffs out a quiet laugh, “how badly does it hurt? You’re lucky you didn’t break anything. If that villain had been any larger I’m sure she would have crushed you.” You hold onto his forearms, “I’m a pretty lucky person..” He hums affectionately. “Yeah it, sure looks like you are. I’ll start a bath for you okay? Wait here, try to get comfortable.”  You have mixed results, but he’s back soon enough, helping you up. Once you make it to his bathroom he’s helping you out of your clothes, careful not to let you move or contort too much.  “Kugo?” You ask quietly as you sink down in the bathwater.  “Mhm?” He’s already wetting your hair with the warm water, slicking it back with large, soft palms.  “You don’t think I’m weak, do you? Wouldn’t you rather date a hero or something? Someone who can hold their own? That you don’t have to worry about so much?”  His hand pulls away a bit, he seems surprised. “Of course I don’t. Being a hero is my job, I don’t think lowly of people who need my help because I’ll need their help one day too. Do you have a poor opinion of everyone who comes to you and needs help fixing the awful haircut they gave themself?” He drags a soapy hand over your shoulder and you shake your head at that,  “no, I guess I never saw it that way..”  “I worry about you because I love you, not because I think you’re weak. I’d worry about you if you were the no. 1 hero just as much as I worry now. Don’t put thoughts like that in your head they’re not worth the space they take up. Let’s get you cleaned up and a little more comfortable, okay?”
Vald King/ Sekijiro Kan: “Oh? Hey! Look who’s awake.” Sekijiro is sitting beside your bed when you open your eyes. Well you think it’s your bed.  “Where....am I?” You turn to look at him and he sits up a little,  “you’re at my place.” So his bed. Same difference.  “What..what happened?” You rub your head, or you try to but picking your arm up makes you hiss.  “You don’t remember?” He leans toward you, worry etched into his face, “then maybe I should take you back to the hospital-”  It started to come back to you at that, You were on a bus, some sort of villain attacked, there was a pretty big car accident from what you remembered he was trying to drive the bus off a bridge into a free way below, you’d tried negotiating with the guy but he just gave you an uppercut. Though in the time you wasted pestering him he’d lost his window of opportunity, instead he just crashed into a wall. You must have gotten to a hospital somehow...But how’d you get back here? “Oh..the attack..” You wrestle yourself up and he flails up to stop you,  “hey maybe not right this second! The doctors say you hit your head pretty hard, and you broke your collarbone.” He presses you back down into bed, “plus a whole bunch of other bumps and bruises. If I didn’t know any better I’d say you’re cursed or something. But when you woke up in the hospital they said I could bring you back here as long as I kept an eye on you.” He pats your thigh under the blanket.  “my head hurts..” You groan and he hums sympathetically, “yeah I figured you’d say that. Here.” He holds up a bottle of pain meds, “you want 2 or 3?”  “5.” “I’m not a doctor but I think that’s too many.” He hands you three and a glass of water, “need help?” You shake your head and he nods, sitting back in his chair.  “You could have sat in here with me.” You say after downing the pills.  “I didn’t wanna spook you when you woke up.” He shrugs, “let me get you some ice. It’ll help with the swelling, I’ll be right back.”  True to his word he only takes a few minutes before he’s back at your side, “you want me to get in bed with you?” He laughs at the way you’d pulled the duvet back, clearly making a spot for him.  “I guess I owe you that much.” He climbs into bed with you and holds the icepack to your shoulder. “We talked with some of the witnesses from the bus jacking, the ones who made it out with just a few scrapes...we owe you big time.” His other hand rubs your thigh, “if you hadn’t started talking to that guy he would have driven that bus clean into the freeway, you saved a lot of people by being your usual thoughtless self.”  “Well he did punch me in the face.” You murmur, free hand rubbing your jaw and the bruise that blossomed under your palm, “I think you’re rubbing off on me Seki..”  He laughs a little and wraps an arm around you, pulling you into his side, “I don’t know how happy I am about that yet. But I owe you a huge thanks at the very least. You did a really impressive thing today, even if it got you hurt.” “I’m just a secretary.” You wave, “being talkative is my job.” He grins at that, “well I guess you’re right about that..” He presses a long kiss to your temple.  “I was really worried you know..when I figured out what bus that was, that you were on it..when I was talking to the witnesses it barely took me 2 conversations to figure out you were the idiot who tried talking a villain down.”  He sighs, “I guess I can’t be too mad at you though..”  “No you can’t.” You preen and he huffs, “you’re grounded though.”  “Grounded!?” You gasp, “Sekijiro you can’t do that we’re both adults!”  “Don’t wanna hear it. You’ve got my number, call me when crazy stuff like that happens. I’ll be there. I’d rather it be me who gets punched in the face. ‘S sorta my job. So you’re grounded. Like it or not I’m not letting you out of my sight. You aren’t allowed to lift a finger until you’re all healed up, maybe even after that I haven’t decided. Anyways, I already called your boss. So don’t bother trying to go to work tomorrow she’ll just send you home.” “Sekijirio!” You gasp and he catches your hand before you can shove his chest.  “And you’re gonna like it. Come on, come here.” He accepts you into his chest, wrapping both arms around you, “lucky you the break isn’t so bad, you’ll just be in a sling for a bit...” He lets out a long sigh as you slump into his chest, “I was so worried.”  “I’m sorry..” You turn into him and he leans into your hair, “you did the right thing. I love you and I’m proud of you...You made the hero play. So..don’t be sorry just...be more careful from now on, okay?”  “...Yessir...” You wrap your free arm around him. “Thank you.”  “I was thinking of leaving my office if I don’t get a promotion soon..and after my run in with that villain today I think I’ve got the makings of a pretty good sidekick huh?” You tease and Sekijiro shudders.  “Please I don’t know what I’d do if I was this worried about you all the time. I’m really happy being in love with a secretary I think we should keep doing that.”

You thought yourself fortunate not to have worn black for Billy during the war, but the day had come regardless. You clutched his dog tags as the rain poured over your hat and soaked through your wool coat. Painfully ironic to think he evaded a thousand bullets in France just to catch one at home.
An unfortunate ending followed by an even more tragic send-off. No one but you and the priest. None of the corpsmen could make it to the funeral and his family hadn’t spoken to him since well before the war. It was better they stayed on their farm and tended their fields. They always said Billy would die in the city.
Would they be smug to know they were right or sorry for it?
You stared at the casket as the wet dirt was piled atop it. Each landed with a duller thump than the last. The police officer told you they found him in an alley. You supposed it was better than a bloated corpse at the bottom of a river. At least you knew he was gone. You could move on… but to what?
When there was nothing left to mark Billy but a flat headstone and a low mound of dirt, the priest left. He offered you a ride but you refused. You needed to be alone. You had to get used to that.
You didn’t move until you heard the thunder. You glanced up at the howling sky and felt the cold metal on your finger. Billy bought the ring after he came home; you’d spent the war with a loop of twine as its placeholder.
His job at the banker saw him well in those first months after but he was always a man who wanted more. You warned him against the thoughts you saw twinkling in his eyes. One night a week he went down to the speakeasy and gambled; never enough to see you out of more than a loaf of bread or two. He liked the thrill, though surely the danger lured him more.
You overheard him on the phone. He was helping the men down at the drinking hole case the bank. A one time hit wasn’t going to keep him so long as his teller position. You argued as he tried to wiggle out of a thin lie; you misheard him. It ended with him promising you nothing would happen.
Maybe he had been honest. Maybe he tried to back out and got the bullet as his penance. You couldn’t know for sure but what you did was that it was those men at the speakeasy who did this to him. They had paid him with a coffin; not a very nice one as you couldn’t afford more than pine.
You trudged away, your heeled boots wet from toe to ankle. You tore your veil from your hat and let the rain run down your face. You still hadn’t cried. Why?
You neared the brick building and let yourself in. You climbed up to the small apartment you and Billy shared. Had shared. You shoved the key in and your numbness disappeared all at once. It was unlocked. Through the muffled thunder and constant patter, you could hear movement within. It was too late to turn back as the door opened from the other side.
The man who greeted you wore a finely tailored suit;grey lined with blue. He stared back at you, his mouth a firm line framed by his square jaw. You swung without thinking, the chain that held Billy’s tags still around your fingers. The stranger caught your hand just before it could hit him and one of the metal tags bounced off his chin.
“Hey,” He grabbed your other arm and wrestled with you. “What are you doing?”
“Get off,” You struggled as his arms slipped around you and crushed you against his chest. Your arms were trapped between your bodies as he grunted. “Help me! Someone--”
“No one’s gonna help ya, doll,” He sneered. “Even if they do hear ya.”
“Stop!” You tried to wriggle free. “Please, I don’t know what you want but--”
“I want you to be still. You won’t like it if I have to make you.” He squeezed until the air was forced from your lungs. He was terribly strong. “And you seem like a lady’s who faced enough pain today.”
“What do you want?” You gasped as you tried to stomp his foot blindly.
“Not gonna tell you until you calm down.” He insisted.
You bared your teeth and reluctantly stilled. You glared at him and huffed. “Just take whatever it is you’re looking for. Please. I just buried my husband… maybe you’ll do me the favour of digging me in next to him.”
The tension in his jaw relented just as little as he looked at you. He pulled you through the door and turned around so that he was between you and the hallway. He let you go and kicked the door shut. You gripped the chain tighter.
“Now don’t you go trying that shit again,” He scowled as his hand settled on his hip just above a pistol. “I really don’t wanna hurt you, doll.”
“That’s not my name,” You bristled. “Now tell me what you’re doing here.”
You turned your head as you heard shuffling from the other room. He was silent as he listened too.
“You’re Billy’s wife?” He asked.
“Widow,” You corrected. “Though I suspect you knew that already. Now tell me--”
“What’s your name then, doll?”
You reluctantly told him and he gave you his; Bucky, as his men knew him.
“Come, sit,” He gestured you further in. “I said calm down.”
You pursed your lips and slowly turned around. You entered the front room and frowned. The sofa was the only piece of furniture not overturned. You crossed your arms and as you neared it.
“You should take that coat off,” He intoned. “You’ll get a cold sitting in that.”
You didn’t respond, merely unbuttoned the wool jacket and slung it over the arm of the sofa. You slipped the tags in your pocketbook and set it atop the coat. You sat and looked to him as he tucked his hands in his pockets. He strode around the room as the noise of intrusion continued from the other room.
“How long were you married to good old Billy?” He asked.
“Does it matter?” You said.
“Judging by the photos,” He neared the corner and lifted a cracked frame, “I’d say you’ve been with him since before the war. That’s a long time. At least eight years together, wed or not.”
“What are you looking for?” You asked.
“Something that if you knew, you’d not tell me anyway,” He considered the picture as he neared. “And poor Billy took to his grave. My condolences.”
You scoffed and unpinned your hat. You tossed it onto the floor with the rest of the mess.
“I don’t want them,” You hissed. “So better get on with your search and leave me alone. Not taking any of this mess with me, anyway.”
“Taking it with you?” He repeated. “And where would you be going?”
“Don’t see how that’s of concern to you,” You countered.
He chuckled and looked around. He grabbed the armchair and righted it before dragging it over. He sat before you and leaned forward.
“Billy definitely learned a lot from that bank. If you must know, he lifted some money off my organisation and with the amount left outstanding, you’d have quite the life.” He said. “So you leaving all sudden is suspicious, isn’t it?”
“My husband is dead. I haven’t a job and I can’t pay the rent with grief.” You replied. “I’d say it’s practical.”
He smiled and leaned back as he crossed his legs. He bit his thumb as he watched you. Your possessions crashed and shattered in the other room. You looked at the clock then the window. The sky was grey and foreboding.
“So, if you got no money, where would you be going?” He asked at last.
“Again, I don’t see how that’s any of your concern.” You uttered.
He tapped his bottom lip with his fingertips. He nodded and reached into his jacket. He checked the time and stood.
“Stay.” He jabbed his finger towards you. “You won’t make it far.”
You sighed and looked at your lap. His footsteps walked down the hall and his voice followed.
“It’s not here, Steve.” He said. “He was foolish but not stupid. He wouldn’t hide it under his pillow.”
There was an answer but you didn’t listen. Billy stole money and in return he got a bullet. Just another small town boy dead in the city. And he hadn’t even told you. You were all alone, penniless, and soon to be homeless.
“Head back to house, have the men scour the city. Worse comes to worse, we visit that fancy little bank,” The voices grew louder and you looked up as another man appeared from the hallway.
His dark blonde hair was slicked back and his blue eyes twinkled in contrast to his black suit. He peeked over at you then back to the other man. He lifted a brow but shrugged.
“Alright, boss,” He said. “See ya there?”
“Shortly,” The other assured and followed him to the door.
When the second man left, the first closed the door and turned the lock. He returned to you and pulled the chair aside. He began to pace again as he thought. You stood and he turned to you abruptly. He raised a hand.
“Where are you going?”
“You going to be here all day?” You wondered.
“Bit of patience,” He coaxed. “I was only trying to think of a way to help a poor widow such as yourself.”
“I don’t want your help.”
“But you need it.” He smirked.
You stared at him. The curve of his lips made your stomach curdle.
“The way I see it, your man’s gone. Got himself killed for being a thief.” He neared you slowly, “Most men of my stature would go so far as you see you in the ground next to him… but I am not any man.”
You watched him uneasily as he stopped before you.
“Well, now you’re gonna need one of two things. A job,” He held up a finger, “Or a man. And I can see that you get neither in this city without my say so.” He flicked up a second finger then suddenly turned his hand. He cupped your face in his palm as his thumb rubbed along your lip. “I’m not hiring though so I suppose I can offer the latter.”
You shoved him away and stumbled back. “You killed my husband. Why would I--”
“He got himself killed and while I bid the trigger pulled, I didn’t do it myself,” He argued. “Hard snake to catch, that Billy.”
“Get out of my apartment.” You demanded. “What you want isn’t here so go!”
“Oh but what I want is here,” He trailed you as you stormed to the door. “Because if I can’t have what Billy took from me, I’ll have what’s left of his in this world.”
You unlocked the door and opened it just an inch before he slammed it shut with his hand. You turned to slap him but your hand froze as the barrel of a gun gaped back at you. You dropped your arm and leaned against the door. He slowly lowered the pistol and dragged the muzzle along your neck and chest.
“Don’t worry, I’ll keep ya better than he did.” He slithered. “Place like this? Nothing to what I can give ya.”
“Please, go--”
“You know, I was hoping to be out of here before you got back. I hate dealing with widows, but you, oh, I see what Billy saw… and more,” He carefully sheathed his pistol at his belt. “I can see why he wanted to give you more. Give you everything.”
His arm rested against the door beside your head as he got even closer. You could taste his breath on your lips.
“I’m gonna give you everything and then some.” He growled.
He bent suddenly and scooped you up. He forced himself between your legs as he pushed you against the door. You beat on his shoulders as he pressed his lips to yours. You grunted helplessly as his hand crawled beneath your skirt and past your stocking. He played with your garter as his tongue poked between your lips.
You bit down but he was quick. He pulled away before you could catch his tongue and he sneered.
“You make me bleed, I’ll have to make you bleed,” He pinched your thigh. “And you don’t want that.”
His hand crept up your pelvis and he gripped the top of your underwear. He tore them easily as his other hand kept your right leg propped up against his hip. You grasped at his suit and begged as the heat pricked at your flesh.
“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of you,” He purred as he bent and nipped at your throat. “Better than he did.”
You grunted between your teeth, unable to free yourself from between him and the door. His fingers slid down your folds and pushed deeper as he drew them back up. He twirled them around your bud and you shuddered. You closed your eyes in shame as your body spasmed.
“Woman like you can’t be alone,” He cooed. “And I can tell you don’t wanna be.”
He flicked his fingers back and forth until you were writhing, your nails embedded in his blazer as you bit down on your lip. He rescinded his hand and fumbled with the front of his trousers. His buckle clinked loudly and stoked another wave of panic in you.
He was quick to line himself up with your entrance. You brought your hand up to claw at his face and he just as swiftly batted it away before he gripped his cock once more. He pushed inside as his other hand released your thigh and went to your throat. Your leg remained hooked over his hip as he sank to his limit.
You whined and he thrust sharply. You threw your head back against the door and scratched at his shoulders. He kept his pace slow and steady, as if to tease, knowingly drawing the pleasure from you as the friction filled you with a terrible fullness.
He choked you harder as he sped up little by little. You could barely rasp past his clutch but your strangled moans escaped nonetheless. You closed your eyes and tried not to think of how thin the walls were; how clearly any in the hall could hear if they happened to pass by.
You couldn’t bear it anymore as your core began to pulse. You slapped his shoulders as you came and the tension snapped in a whirlwind. You drowned in the waves of ecstasy as he fucked you harder and harder. Your pitiful mewls only seemed to feed his lust and your shame.
The door shook as he fucked you against it, his head beside yours as he trapped you between him and the wood. His groans were wild and loud. He nibbled at your ear as his hand slid down to your chest and cupped your tit through your black dress.
His other hand hit the door in a fist as he cried out and your eyes sprang open. His body quaked as he spilled inside of you. His body twitched as he slowed and he threw his head back as he panted. He swallowed his hand grazed along your stomach lazily.
He eased out of you and let your leg fall. Your legs threatened to collapse beneath you as you clung to the door. Your skirt slowly slipped back into place as your underwear sat disposed between your feet. He did up his pants and cleared his throat. He took out his watch again.
“Get your coat, doll,” He said. “No time to waste.”

DinCobb Week Day 3: New Experiences (SFW)
for @dincobbweek a lil bit of ENBY!Cobb
AO3 Link
see me not as i am (but who i wish to be)
The first time they felt envy for another was when they were eighteen—still an owned individual, still a slave, still a man in a sense.
Their owner’s wife had returned from shopping in Mos Eisley, in the richer districts Cobb themself couldn’t go to.
They watched as the lady’s handmaids took her dresses out to hang them properly, and for a moment then, Cobb wondered what it would be like to feel that fabric against their skin, to see how the dress would drape over their body. How it would hide their broad shoulders. How it might make them seem smaller and more dainty. Just everything that wasn’t them at that point in time of their life.
They would never go anywhere near the lady or her dresses. That wasn’t their purpose in the household at that time. They wouldn’t have any time to explore that part of themself until years and years later. After they fought for their freedom and fought for the lives of others. Until the story of their life showed on their body in rigid muscles and myriad of scars and scar tissue.
They live the life of Mos Pelgo’s Marshal. A beloved and feared figure who means to protect and serve the citizens who call this dusty little place home. They seem to know, however, that their Marshal is more than just what they appear to be. It’s easy for them to see that outside of their role as Marshal, that Cobb Vanth is a soft spoke individual. Who smiles easily and dotes after the kids in town like they’re their own. Who holds themself not like the Marshal in their off hours, but someone approachable.
What the town comes to realize is that their Marshal is not a man. Cobb doesn’t think of themself as a man. They know themselves as Cobb first and foremost and then the Marshal. The Marshal has required them to be more than themselves. More imposing. Louder. Stronger. And they’ve enjoyed it. Being the Marshal has given them a sense of strength and power in a way. But when the Mandalorian arrives in town, things begin to change.
The deal is worth it. To trade the armour for killing the krayt and brokering a peace agreement between Mos Pelgo and the neighbouring Tuskens. But even then, it’s not the Mandalorian’s ability to delegate that draws Cobb to him. It’s his openness, his accepting nature.
“Town’s people think a lot of you,” he says in that soft timbre of his.
“Been their Marshal for a while now.”
“They think highly of you. I’ve also learned that they refer to you as they. Do you prefer that as well?”
Cobb looks to him, partially in shock because not many people ask. For the town’s people, it’s habit. For outsiders? Cobb hasn’t really cared to explain that part of themselves to outsiders. They don’t see the point in it, and most don’t care to know, but the Mandalorian, he’s different.
“I do,” is all Cobb says on the matter.
The Mandalorian nods once, then says, “I never introduced myself properly to you.”
“Wasn’t exactly a situation where introduction were required.”
“Still, I’d like you to know me. My name is Din.”
Cobb nods. “Nice to have it.”
They work well together, Cobb thinks. They move in sync. They’re able to anticipate what the other is thinking, and through it all, Cobb thinks about how they’ve never connected to someone else so well before.
But then it’s all over. They’re handing over the armour. Din is heading away with the Child, and Cobb will be left in Mos Pelgo to put everything back together.
Without the armour and now with the established peace between their people and the Tuskens, Cobb finds their workload to be significantly less than what it once was. They realize they’re spending more time helping out in homesteads, filling in for the school teacher, and less of the patrolling they used to do. They have more free time on their hands. They can relax and think of themselves for the first time in a long time.
They find themselves looking in their bathroom mirror running a hand over their beard in the mirror. It’s overgrown some. They haven’t considered touching it in days and now . . .
They grab their razor and begin to shave it off, leaving their face clean shaven for the first time in years. They’ve forgotten how sharp their cheekbones are and the point of their chin. It makes them look different without facial hair. Like a new person almost.
Jo notices when they meet up for coffee later that morning. “Shaving accident?”
They smile wryly. “Nah. Just needed a change.”
“Might want to double up on sunscreen then.”
They settle into their life more as Mayor of Mos Pelgo rather than Marshal these days. They start growing out their hair a bit. They start looking at new cuts of clothing whenever they happen upon a seller in Anchorhead or Mos Eisley.
And then one day, the Mandalorian Din shows up on his doorstep looking for a place to stay.
Cobb can’t deny him, and so ends up with Din sitting in their living room after being gone for months.
“I had nowhere else to go,” he says. “I figured . . .” He looks to Cobb with a certain naked vulnerability without his helmet on. His eyes are impossibly brown, deep and warm.
“You’d always be welcomed here.”
Din nods. “Thank you.”
The build up of their relationship is a slow and gentle affair. They’re both older people, Cobb pushing into their fifties and Din edging further into his forties. But they know each other and they know what they want, so it’s easier to fit together, to bring their lives together.
“I like your hair,” Din says one night when they’re in bed together. He raises a hand to tuck a lock behind Cobb’s ear. Then his fingers drift down Cobb’s jaw. “It looks good on you long.”
“I’ve always wanted to try it longer,” Cobb muses. “Never had the space to.”
“It’s nice.” Din presses a kiss to their forehead, and Cobb falls asleep with Din’s fingers in their hair.
It’s with Din’s constant and gentle support that Cobb garners up the courage to say one day, “Do you think I’d look good in a dress?”
Din looks up from where he’s repairing one of his vambraces at the table while Cobb finishes dinner. “Do you have one?”
They shake their head. “I’ve thought about it, but.”
“We should head into town tomorrow then. See what they have.”
Din is looking at them from the table, nothing but that open and accepting look he always has when it comes to Cobb.
“Okay.”
Mos Eisley hasn’t fallen into disrepair like Mos Espa has, and now as a free person, Cobb is free to visit those higher end clothing stalls and shops like the lady of the house once did decades ago. There’s a lot to look through and choose from. Different colours, different textures, different cuts. They choose something that’s practical for their day to day life. It’s long, down to their ankles, but of a flowy material that won’t trap any heat. The sleeves cut just above their elbows. There’s a vee cut in the front, and the colour is a soft cream. They buy that for themselves and notice that Din makes a purchase himself, but won’t tell them what it is.
“Later,” he says, so they trust him.
They first try on their dress at home when it’s just them and Din ad they’ve seen to their work for the day.
Din is back up on the bed, looking at Cobb in admiration as they strip down to their briefs and pull out their dress. It feels like relief as the fabric falls over their shoulders and down past their hips until it hangs around their ankles. They run their hands down over their chest and torso and down to their hips before looking in the mirror.
“Oh.”
The dress sort of shifts their shape a bit. From how it hangs on their hips it pulls away from their broad shoulders. It makes them look more feminine, makes them feel it as well.
Then they turn to Din, feeling how it swishes at their ankles.
Din is wide eyed and speechless at first, his eyes roving over Cobb’s body and the dress. “You’re, you look.” He runs a hand over his mouth and then sits up on the bed. “Can I . . . touch you?”
Cobb nods. “Please.”
Din stands and moves in to gently set his hands on Cobb’s waist. He’s always had big hands, but like this it makes Cobb feel even slighter, like he could pick them up easily.
“How do you feel?” he asks.
They hum and run their hands over his shoulders. “I feel good. Nothing different, but good.”
Din smiles. “I’m glad.” And he leans in for a kiss.
They don’t learn about Din’s purchase for a while yet, and they nearly forget about it until much later when they’re stepping into the bedroom after a long shower and seeing it on the bed.
They come up to Din as he cooks in the kitchen, hugging him from behind until he asks, “What’s brought this on?” And as he looks over his shoulder he sees it. Sees the red strap of it where the silky dress hangs off of Cobb’s body with its slit up the leg.
“Saw your little gift,” they say.
“I just, it’s not like.”
They kiss his cheek when they see his blush on their cheeks. “I love it.”
Din turns in their arms so he can fully see the dress on them, the thin straps, the thin material.
“You look good in red,” he says.
“Don’t I know it, darlin’.”

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12 Part 13 Part 14 Part 15 Part 16 Part 17 Part 18
Zed waited for Vee next to the window overlooking the vast green ocean of vegetation. The sliver of sun painted the sky aflush, rolling west in shades of violet. Pinprick stars perforated the melting spectrum, and the phantom moon showed its impatient face fully before the horizon swallowed all light. It was a soothing array of scenery, and Zed rested her head on the glass until footsteps drew her attention to the door. She smiled as Vee came in carrying a plate of zucchini fritters and mashed chickpeas, returning the warm greeting silently.
"Hungry? Axel wasn't a fan. He wants a cheeseburger from McDonald's," said Vee, handing the platter to Zed.
She accepted the dish with a nod. "Did you tell him why that's not possible?"
Vee sighed. The dark beneath his eyes seemed permanent now. "I didn't get into detail. He wouldn't understand."
"Shouldn't we make him understand?"
"It's too soon. The big lug just woke up. It was a challenge just to get him to lie there. Soon he'll want to leave the lab, and I don't know how he'll fare around his adoring fans."
Zed bit into a greasy fritter and scooped a dollop of the paste with the leftover crescent. "He'll love the ego-boost, I'm sure."
"That's what I'm afraid of. All those people will confuse him. Who knows what that might do to his head. We're in a delicate situation."
"Axel seems to like me. Maybe I can convince him to stay put."
Vee grimaced from the thought of Axel working Zed over with his motoring mouth and crass sense of humour. The scientist had grown accustomed to nights alone with her, cooking together and discussing their future. The night they'd spent alone in the greenhouse rang in his heart; the night he admitted his feelings and begged her to squash them. The thought of her alone with Axel picked a scab he didn't know he had.
"You're worried about something," Zed said.
Vee snapped from his bittersweet reverie and sighed. "Am I ever not worrying?"
"True," Zed snorted. "Now, eat. I can't finish this all myself."
The pair finished the plate before Vee set the dish aside and motioned her to the sofa.
"We need to talk about what we found in Glott's notes. I know we can't test this theory, but we should treat it as the truth," said Vee.
"Okay, well, if that's how we're approaching this D negative blood sample... What's the next step? We have no medical supplies. I checked the med tent in the courtyard for the third time just for fun."
"Then we have to visit Glott and get some answers. And by we... I mean me."
"Valter—"
"I know you don't want me to leave, but what other option do we have? Every day we waste here is another step backward."
Zed shook her head until a thin braid dislodged from behind her ear and swung in her face. Vee resisted the urge to tuck it back. The girl's face swivelled toward the window, and she pondered and watched the premature stars twinkle across the bruised sky.
"We go together," Zed said firmly. "I won't budge on that."
"And what about Axel?"
"We wait until he's better. We'll need him to navigate the way."
"And if he never recovers?" Vee asked.
"Then we go anyway. All three of us. We get Axel better, and we go together."
Vee inhaled through his nose as Zed screwed her eyes into his. When he nodded, a smile unfurled across her face, shadowed by the last drops of brassy sunlight.
"I hate this plan, but I suppose it's all we have," said Vee.
"Promise we'll all stick together."
"Of course, Lea. I won't leave without you guys. Promise."
"Promise-promise?"
"I double promise with a cherry on top. Stick a needle in my eye and call it macaroni."
Zed stifled laughter beneath her palm. "I think you've been hanging out with Sam too much."
"That, or I'm just tired."
"I'll let you sleep now. You look beat."
Vee twisted his mouth in lopsided agreement. "Yeah, you're right. I'm gonna hit the shower first. Unless you want to?"
"No, you go ahead. I'll stay here a little longer," Zed said as she laid her temple against the cool glass and looked out over the forest floor, now drowning in the twilight.
~*~
In the morning, Zed left the apartment and padded down the hallway in her mismatched slippers. She slowed as she turned the corner and found the brothers talking. Axel's eyebrows were locked in a line, and Vee looked up at her with relief.
"Lea, can you help me explain to Axel why he can't leave the hospital room?"
Axel whipped the covers off his thighs. "This place is fuckin' weird, and I know you're lying to me. That doctor you had in here is a whack-job. Something isn't adding up."
"Stay put," Vee commanded.
Zed rubbed the sleep from her eyes and prepared to take both sides with a long breath. "Axel, your brother is right. You can't leave yet. Just stay a little longer and heal."
"Where the fuck am I, Vee? This isn't like any hospital I've ever been to. And why can't I use the phone to call mom and dad?"
Axel's question erased all the sleep Vee had gotten the night before. His fatigue was contagious. Zed approached the bed and brushed Axel's shoulder. The touch diffused the tension in his upper body and opened him up to a new explanation, one that hadn't come from his kid brother's mouth.
"There are no phones here, Axel. You're right... This place is different. We're missing a lot of things you’d consider normal."
"Look, darlin', I know you're just trying to make me feel better, but none of what you're saying makes any sense. What do you mean there's no phone? There's electricity, isn't there? So why can't I hobble my way to a pay phone or borrow someone's cell?"
Vee and Zed exchanged pained looks. The younger brother kneaded his brow and offered Axel the same explanation he had before, reworded. Axel refused to believe a word and scrambled off the gurney, throwing Vee's hands off him as he limped a few steps and realized his mistake.
"What the fuck is wrong with my foot? Did someone sliced my ankle in half? What is happening to me? I feel like I'm on an acid trip that never ends. I go to sleep and see crazy shit, only to wake up in an even crazier place where there're no phones and no fucking food! You're talking in goddamn riddles, Vee. The least you can do is get me a Baconator for my trouble! I can't walk—I can't even jerk off 'cause my good hand is fucked. You gotta help me out."
"How many times do I have to tell you, Axe? There are no restaurants!"
"Bullshit! Sweetheart, come on, you can help me, right? Can you please just grab me something greasy? I'll pay you back, I promise. I'm good for it."
"I wish I could help you, Axel, but Vee's right. There's nowhere to get stuff like that anymore."
"Anymore? What does that even mean? You guys are talking like I slept through the apocalypse or something!"
Zed turned to Vee, who blocked the way to the courtyard. "Come on, Axe. Just settle down, and get back into bed."
"Are you gonna find me some painkillers then?" Axel faltered toward the bed and hoisted himself onto the flat mattress with his right arm.
"I'll see what I can do, buddy, but will you promise to stay here for a little longer?"
"Whatever," Axel scoffed. "What else am I gonna do?"
Zed waited until Axel slid back under the covers and tilted his face away from them both to assess Vee's mood. She suspected Axel's recovery would be difficult. Still, when she pictured him with his eyes open again, she heard laughter and saw game nights, shared wine and inside jokes knitting them closer together—not disarray and a friend who'd forgotten her. And if Vee had left the day he championed himself, Axel wouldn't have any flagship of his past. The scientist's presence tranquillized her despite Axel's rotten mood fouling the atmosphere.
"You're hungry, Axel?" Zed asked.
"Starving."
"I'll try to track down something tasty to eat. It won't be a greasy burger, but maybe I can find you something close to fries. I'll make it myself if I have to."
Axel flipped his eyes to the girl standing with her arms knotted behind her back and smiled. "Oh, darlin'...You're a sweet thing. I'd hate to ask, so I'll just accept the offer. Or maybe Vee can go, and you and I can chat a little more?"
Zed chuckled at the man's slyness. "I have some other things to do. We’ll talk when I get back."
"Don't rush for me, honey, but if you do, I'll take it as a good sign," Axel said with a wink.
At the cost of one of her knit blankets, Zed found someone in Athena to chop and bake a sweet potato in peanut oil. She bartered for garlic and salt to sprinkle on the dish. The redheaded child spotted her making transactions and stopped her at the mouth of the Hives with a cloth of fermented cashew cheese and a large chunk of bread that sat out overnight but was still soft. She offered the foodstuffs to Axel on a thin wood slab, and he accepted with an obsequious grin. He relinquished his dissatisfaction and warmed next to Zed.
"Aw, darlin', look at you go. How can I thank you for your trouble?" Axel asked as he chomped a crispy strand of sweet potato.
Zed stepped back from his bed, blushing. "It's okay, Axel. You don't have to do anything but get better."
"Will you stay with me for a while? If I have to stay in bed, it'd really make my life easier if I have someone to talk to. That is if you don't mind my chattiness."
"Sure. Let me grab a chair from the apartment," said Zed.
Axel finished his meal quickly, and as if he hadn't eaten at all, felt the pang of hunger moments after the last bite of bread. His appetite woke up ravenous, and no amount of homegrown food could satiate the growl.
"I might need to eat again in an hour," Axel informed as Zed dragged the chair across the floor. “I’m a big boy, you know.”
"That's fine. I'll find you something in a little while ."
The injured man nodded and sighed, eyelashes fluttering over tired green eyes. A bloated silence proceeded, and Zed wondered how to initiate a conversation. Vee told her not to confuse Axel with present-day news, but all she wanted to do was ask about Richard Glott's underground bunker and with who he'd crossed paths that left him slashed and maimed.
After a couple of deep breaths, Axel murmured, "I see you in my dreams every time I fall asleep. Is that strange?"
Zed hid her shy smile behind her palm. "Oh, stop."
Axel shimmied his torso higher on the bed and frowned in pain. "No, seriously. Not trying to be slick, honey. I see the most fucked up things when I sleep. You know the kind of dreams so vivid, you wake up and your heart’s pounding, thinking it's all real for a minute? Then you're like... No way."
Zed shifted closer to Axel's bed. "What do you dream about?"
Axel smiled to himself. "You, mostly... Us. You and me doing crazy shit together. Sometimes I'm in the desert, and I see this airplane in the distance. It's on the ground, and I ride toward it, you know, you're not gonna ignore a crashed plane, right? Then I find you there, but these guys are hurting you, and you're going nuts trying to shake 'em, but there's too many, so I shoot 'em all, and they melt like popsicles. You stab one good, though."
"What else?" Zed asked.
"I dunno... Sometimes it's just me and you cruising through the desert, and I get the feeling you hate me, but I kinda like it. I'm happy you're there, even though we're in the middle of nowhere, and I have no idea what's gonna happen next."
"Sounds like some pretty weird dreams."
"They're so lucid. It's like a movie, and I'm the main character, and you're... Well, you. Like my cool sidekick."
"Sidekick, huh?" Zed scoffed.
"Yeah, you have this air about you that's like not to be fucked with. Then things always get real dark. I don't even want to tell you about it 'cause you'll think I'm fucked in the head."
Zed knew this part of the story and lowered her eyes to the floor. "It's okay. You can tell me if you want. It's just dreams, right?"
"Nah, I'll just leave it at that. It's not sex stuff or anything if you're wondering."
"Your dreams are more entertaining than anything I have going on today."
With Zed's green light, Axel inhaled deeply before launching into the story of their past. Before he uttered another syllable, a severed connection sparked in his head. His eyes grew large, and he looked around the makeshift hospital room, awestruck.
"In my dreams, we're trying to get to Vee. He needs us for some reason."
"What does he need?"
"Some science shit, which makes total sense because he's a scientist. He's actually a scientist, and not just in my dreams."
"Axel... These dreams you've had... Do you think they have significance?" Zed asked carefully.
"Totally. They have to. Right? Or am I fucking crazy?"
"You're not crazy, Axel. I promise."
"But what if I am? This place... I get such a bad feeling when I'm awake in this room by myself. Vee won't tell me where we are. It's like he's hiding something, and he never lies to me about anything. We don't do that."
"Vee just wants you to get better. He's under a lot of stress, and your recovery is a big part of that. We didn't think—he didn't think you'd make it through. Another complication is the last thing you guys need."
Axel went quiet again and fixated on the dust motes and bolts of lightning crackling up his leg. A storm grew behind his eyes, the same torrents Zed saw when she tried to stop him from leaving Kinderfeld and her behind. Sickened by the thought of Axel sneaking off, she touched his arm and offered a warm smile.
"Talk to me, Axel. Please. Don't keep anything inside."
Axel glanced at her small hand on his tattooed bicep and the lightning in his body faded.
"We were friends in a past life," Axel claimed.
"We're friends in this life."
"Can I tell you one other thing, then I promise I'll stop talking about my bonkers dreams?"
"Yes. I don't mind at all."
Axel curled his bicep and touched Zed's fingers, feeling the motion out until she grasped his hand.
"I think I have to take you somewhere."
"Oh, yeah?" Zed giggled. "And where's that?"
Axel blushed for the first time and brought her hand to hold next to him on the bed. "Not like on a date or anything. I just get this feeling that I'm supposed to protect you, even though you seem capable of looking after yourself just fine. This dream voice keeps reminding me to stay with you and Vee... Like I'm not allowed to let either of you out of my sight. Especially not you."
"Then don't," Zed said.
He squeezed her fingers gently. "I won't."

Word of Axel's consciousness seeped out of the lab and into the village. Nobody knew who had made the discovery—Vee blamed Samson while Zed suspected Nalani, who'd waltzed by the lab doors at a suspiciously slow pace several times each day—and leaked the information. They barred visitors and only allowed the doctor in to help change Axel's bandages until Ivar arrived.
Axel was alone, humming a tune from his teenage years when the king came through the doors and stopped to stare at his bed-ridden friend.
"Zee, you're awake? And no one thought to tell me?"
"Sorry, hombre, but I think you have the wrong room. Name's Axel."
Ivar flashed all his sharp teeth in a sly smile and wagged his finger. "Always a joker."
"No, really," Axel chuckled, then went deadpan. "Wait... Who are you?"
Before Ivar spoke, Vee walked into the lab and froze when he saw Ivar standing a few feet from Axel's bed.
"Ivar. I wasn't expecting you."
The king sneered and motioned toward Axel. "What's with this guy?"
"Hey, maybe we can talk for a second?" Vee invited Ivar down the hall, out of earshot.
Ivar glared at the scientist. "When exactly were you planning on telling me he woke up?"
"That's the thing, Ivar. You don't understand... Axel's suffering from amnesia. It's common for coma patients to lose parts of their memory. Right now, he's in a very touchy state. He has no idea where he is, who you are, or what any of this is. I've tried to keep people away from him to avoid confusion, but now everybody knows. It's not good for him. Subjecting him to all this new information can cause anxiety, panic... Who knows. We're trying to ease him back into life."
"What do you mean he doesn't know who I am? I'm his best friend."
"Trust me. Axel doesn't even remember serving in the army."
"That's crazy. We should tell him—"
"No. It's too big of a shock. Axel's already gone through hell. Imagine trying to explain our world to somebody who has virtually no idea what's happened in the last couple of years."
Ivar pondered and didn't respond to Vee's relief, then sighed as though he accepted the explanation.
"So what does this mean for you? I assume you're retracting your claim and staying in Kinderfeld?"
Vee twisted his mouth to the side. "How can I go now?"
"You volunteered."
"That was before Axel came home. He needs me. I'm the only person he recognizes. Give me some more time with him, get him back on his feet and see if he'll start remembering, then I'll go."
Ivar crossed his arms across his burly chest. "Who knows how long that might take?"
"Would you leave someone you loved in that state?"
"I'd do what's for the greater good."
"He's your best friend. He's my brother. Axel needs us right now, Ivar. Think of all he's done for us. We owe it to take care of him until he's fit to at least walk again. I need him to remember what happened so I can get a better idea of what's going on outside."
"I suppose you're right," Ivar conceded. "You can't go out blind by yourself."
"Yes, you're right," Vee said with great relief.
"So what now? I can't talk to him?"
"You can speak to him if you like, but try not to bring up things that might confuse him. Don't talk about the army or mention recent times."
Ivar looked over his shoulder at the apartment's open door and heard the muted humming of a girl filtering through the corridor.
"And how's Lea taking all of this?"
Vee stiffened. "She's helping out."
"Axel has no idea who she is? He really doesn't know what's happened?"
"Not that I can tell. He keeps asking for cheeseburgers and to call our parents."
"Wow," Ivar whispered.
"Yeah, it's hard."
Ivar went quiet, distant, and shook his head slowly before inhaling through his nose and squeezing Vee's shoulder. "I trust you, brother. Maybe we'll talk more about your expedition in a few days when things have a chance to settle with Axel."
"You got it."
Axel pretended he wasn't trying to listen to the conversation between his brother and the brown-haired man with the striking blue eyes when the pair returned. Ivar nodded at Axel, his eyes awash with sympathy for the indisposed man.
"How are you feeling, Axel?"
"A little on the shitty side, my man. Not gonna lie. Hands busted, foot's bum... Can't fuck my way to a decent meal in this place, and everyone's tiptoeing around like I'm a sleeping baby. Gotta say I've had better days."
"Well, I hope you heal up quick. There are a lot of people who want to see you."
A coy smirk unfurled over Axel's face. "Yeah, I kinda get that impression. Sometimes, I see people looking in through those doors. I feel like a panda at a zoo. Everyone wants a peek at little ol’ Axel, huh?"
"Is there anything I can get you?"
"Cheeseburger?" Axel asked hopefully.
"Would if I could, friend."
"Goddamn it," Axel lamented.
Vee widened his eyes when Ivar looked at him, confirming what they'd discussed in the hallway.
"Say, how do you stay so beefy if there's no meat in this place?" Axel asked Ivar.
"I get my protein where I can. Try to stay fit. I'll get someone to bring you something good to eat."
Axel snorted. "Yeah, that's what that sweet-lookin' one said, but everything tastes like tree bark. No offence to her. She tried her best, and I'd never insult a lady's cooking to her face."
Ivar sucked in his bottom lip and nodded. "Well, I'll see what I can do for you, Axel. Get better soon."
Vee held his breath until Ivar left the lab and shrunk once the doors closed.
"You sure have a way with words, don't you?"
"Everyone who walks in here acts like they know me."
"We might have to move you to the apartment. Put a cap on your visitors."
"Who was that?" Axel asked.
"That's Ivar Lothbrok. He kinda runs things, in a sense."
"Nice guy."
Vee scoffed. "Yeah. Nice."
An itch stuck in the back of Axel's head, and he grew quiet once again, trying to unravel the mystery he'd woken up inside. He was a figure in a snow globe, a permanent fixture in a landscape rife with faces he'd seen in dreams. Sitting up in his bed, Axel wondered what laid beyond the confines of his glasshouse. Never one to follow the rules, even under the firm guidance of his smart younger brother, Axel decided once everyone fell asleep, he'd find himself a walking post and go exploring.
~*~
Zed woke to the sound of Vee's soft snoring coming through the open door of his bedroom. The possibility of sleep retracted with every second she spent staring at the smooth, globular ceiling in the dark, trying to make shapes out of the dream residue behind her eyelids. The sofa stiffened her back, and she twisted her spine until air bubbles popped and her muscles strained from the motion. She pulled the blanket up to her chin and squeezed her eyes shut for a few minutes, but Axel's stories followed her from sleep, brushing up on her with sharp quills. Since Axel painted his dream world, she hadn't stopped thinking of him and mourning the loss of his memory for the both of them. Axel didn't know his missing pieces were dancing under his eyes each time he slumbered, and she longed to stitch them together to create the full picture.
She squinted into the darkness, fatigue long since faded, and left the apartment. Light on her bare feet, Zed padded down the hallway and turned the corner to find an empty bed. Her heart twinged from Axel's absence. She considered going back to the apartment to tell Vee his brother was missing but found herself propelled to seek Axel out herself. There was nowhere in the lab a man of Axel's stature could hide, so she went out to the courtyard to begin her search. The floodlights cast pyramids of light over the foothills but revealed nothing but stone paths and glittering grass ranks. She started left first, then changed her mind and shot right toward the warehouse. Zed minded her steps as she picked up a jog, extending her legs to clear the roiling yards until she reached the square entrance of the warehouse. A guard leaned against the steel wall next to the exit, blinking and wiping a hand over his face to rouse himself. He saw Zed across the cement expanse and stood up straight.
"What're you doing out here?" The guard's voice clattered through the chamber.
"Sorry," Zed said, casting a thorough glance around before retreating into the light and shadow of the courtyard again. She rushed to the Hives, taking quick strides to reach her abandoned apartment before anyone else noticed her. After a quick knock, Zed opened the door to find her former living quarters as deserted as ever. Nobody had claimed the space in her absence, nor was Axel's adjoining apartment occupied. Both rooms were empty.
Zed's search for Axel continued and grew in urgency with each lonely cove and space she found. As she made her way around the central dome where the courtyard bordered the largest hill, she stopped at the mouth of the Chrysalis and addressed the men standing guard.
"Have either of you seen someone limping through here?"
"Nobody's come 'round here, Zed. Who're you looking for?"
Zed cocked her head. "Who do you think?"
"You mean Zee?" The man on the right asked. "Thought he was paralyzed."
"So it's true? He's awake?"
"Please don't tell anyone. Not yet."
The bearded guard rose a dark eyebrow at Zed. He was one of Ivar's highest-ranking patrol. Zed recognized him from the night they'd brought in the Zeronaut captain, Monk. He often stood by wherever Ivar went and didn't talk much unless addressed. "Ivar know about this?"
"I don't know what Ivar knows. Vee communicates with him, but we're trying to keep this from the general public."
"What do you think, Fen? Should we tell Ivar?" The scrawny, clean-shaven guard asked.
Fen sneered and told his partner to close his mouth before angling his torso toward Zed. "We'll keep an eye out, petite fleur."
Zed nodded and continued on her way, but there were few more spots Axel could hide unless someone had intercepted him and invited him into their hovel. She thought of Nalani, who often wandered the courtyard at odd hours and Trinity, who adored Axel and might jump at the opportunity to lead him to a private alcove. The two of them shared living space in Athena. Zed wanted to keep the search party light, and asking around would only spread curiosity like wildfire.
She continued touring the courtyard, her naked soles sore from hurried walking. Finally, she stopped at the greenhouse gate, its series of coiling iron bars and metal flowers welded to the columns in intricate clusters. Zed lifted the latch and pushed the gate open, taking care to shut it quietly. The greenhouse where the citizens grew aloe and berries was the little-known getaway spot Axel and Vee coveted as their private paradise. Zed zigzagged through the raised beds, taking care not to trip over the irrigation hoses and climbed the wooden steps at the back of the third square house. Around another corner and through the thick blackberry bushes nestled in rectangles of sodden earth, Zed rushed to the spot under the sky where the light poured in but found nothing.
"Shit," she whispered, out of breath and reeling in the thick, tepid air.
Zed looked up to the cloudless velveteen sky, crushing disappointment wringing her heart. In a throng of shadow off to the right, a figure shifted and startled the woman backward.
A tired voice called her name.
The shady form lengthened, struggling to stand. Once it stood at its full height, the vice pressing Zed's chest disappeared. Axel hobbled into view, using the overhead pipes to help himself along.
"Axel! There you are. Oh my God, you had me so worried. Why did you leave the lab?"
"The lab? Is that where you've been keeping me?"
Zed clapped her palm over her mouth. Axel gave an elongated nod, eyes wide and accusatory.
"Is that what I am? Some kind of experiment?"
"No, Axel—"
"What are you and Vee doing? Tell me why he's keeping me locked up. Tell me where the fuck I am, Lea. Please. This place... Something about it seems wrong. It scares me."
Axel wilted against a plant bed as Zed approached and caught his elbow to keep him upright.
"Axel, don't be scared. Please, I promise you're safe. We're not trying to keep you captive. This is all difficult to explain, and you were asleep for so long parts of your memory are missing. Vee's only trying to make it easier for you to cope."
"Cope with what, Lea? Cope with the fact I'm a prisoner? That I can't sleep because my nightmares are so vivid, I feel like I'm dying? That people watch me like some sideshow freak?"
"Everything," Zed sighed. "The new world. How can we explain all this to someone who woke up in the past?"
Axel looked up through the skylights and whimpered. "Something terrible has happened, hasn't it?"
Zed, wounded from the dejection in her friend's voice, led Axel to sit on the floor, then sat next to him and draped her arms over his shoulders, resting her cheek on the thin cotton shoulder strap of his tank top.
"I wish I could say you're wrong, but I can't lie to you, Axe."
"My instincts were right. Something is very wrong. After that Ivar fella came through, I started getting this feeling you all weren't telling me something on purpose."
"Don't be angry with us, Axel. We didn't know how to tell you."
Axel leaned his head on Zed's and sought her hand to hold. She slid her fingers through his and gripped tightly. "It's okay. I get it now. I'm supposed to be here. You and me... We're meant to be together. Otherwise... Why would I see you every time I close my eyes?"
"Axel," Zed whispered. "I missed you so much when you left. I thought I'd never see you again. Now everything is different."
"I'm sorry. If I hurt you back then... I didn't mean it."
"Just don't leave me again. Please. I can't fool myself into happiness without you in my life."
"I won't leave. I can't."
"Promise?"
"I promise, Lea."
"Promise-promise?"
Axel chuckled and kissed the top of Zed's head before laying his cheek on the ruts of her braids. "Yeah. I promise-promise."

Axel and Zed laid on the floorboards and watched the stars twinkling above while the chamber filled with water vapour, obscuring the glass until the condensation evaporated. When the infinite black sky lightened to meteorite violet, Axel used Zed as a crutch to stand up. He stole a fistful of blackberries, stuffing the fruits in his mouth and mashing them until inky juice seeped from the corners of his lips. He complained about his ankle, which he'd suffered walking on during his solo excursion to the greenhouses. Zed berated him for wandering off and helped him down the steps and through the rows of potato plants, arms locked, their pace slow to accommodate Axel's injury.
A murmur greeted the pair as they approached the iron gate. A dozen villagers gathered around the entrance to witness Axel emerge with smiles on their faces. Frozen from the elated faces beaming at him, Axel pulled on Zed's arm, alerting her to the hoard of onlookers.
"Who are they?" Axel asked.
"Zee! Happy you're awake!"
"What happened to your arm, Zee? Are you okay?"
"He looks terrible."
Zed opened the gate, and the crowd dented but didn't part. "Make room, please!"
"We want to talk to Zee!"
Axel then realized the group addressed him, their wide eyes drinking in his bruised and broken state with smiles unfitting his poor condition. An overwhelming sense of worry touched his skin, and he grabbed for Zed to lead him, but they huddled around the gate until a tall head of blond hair sliced the crowd in half. Vee shouldered past, his eyes hooded and brow furrowed.
"Axel! Lea! What the hell are you doing out here? Lea, did you let him out?"
Zed frowned and drew her shoulders up. "Of course not! I'm the one who came looking for him."
"Let's go. Come on, now. Everyone make way. Go back home!" Vee barked.
"We want answers! What's happening outside the walls?"
"We'll answer your questions later," Vee said disdainfully. "Lea, help me get him back."
The trio staggered to the lab, breathless from the trek over the bowing foothills. Vee waited until they were behind closed doors to deliver a speech about how irresponsible and defiant Axel was, how his behaviour might cause unwanted ripples where the scientist required placidity. Axel hoisted himself into bed and accepted his lecture, sullen and quiet, occasionally glancing at Zed, who also wrung her wrists.
"I told you not to leave the room, Axe. Why? Why can't you listen to me for once in your goddamn life?" Vee asked.
"You're not my mommy, Valter. I can do what I want, and frankly, I don't appreciate you keeping secrets from me!"
"What are you on about?"
"Oh, don't play dumb. You've lied to me this whole time! About where we are, what's happened to me. I think you know much more than you lead on."
Vee scoffed and looked to Zed for reassurance. The girl stood still with her shoulders hunched.
"Lea, help me out here."
"Well, Vee... Maybe it's time we tell him everything. There's no use hiding the truth anymore. He already knows something's wrong."
"Yeah!" Axel cried. "I'm done sitting around twiddling my thumbs. You have to tell me what's up. How did I get like this? What the fuck happened to me, and why can't I remember anything? I don't know how I got here or who all those people are out there."
"That's the thing, Axe... We don't know what happened to you. You left, and when you came back, you were unconscious and hurt. We don't leave this place, so I can't tell you anything more than that. I didn't know if you'd wake up and certainly didn't know you'd have amnesia when you did."
Axel turned to Zed for verification, and she nodded her head regretfully.
"It's true, Axel. I wish we could tell you more."
"Then at least tell me where I am. Start there," Axel demanded.
Vee and Zed stood speechless for a moment until she sighed deeply. "Vee, maybe we should give him the postcards and his journals."
"What are you talking about?"
"You're right, Lea. Go get the box. Tonight's gonna be a long one."
Zed hauled the box of postcards and dog-eared journals into the lab and hefted it onto the foot of Axel's bed. Vee unpinned the postcards from the corkboard and offered them to Axel with a pinched smile. Zed sat in her chair while Vee laid on the floor, a long arm slung over his eyes as Axel began to read aloud from his workbooks. The three of them listened to the stories Axel had penned years before while he was in the infantry as if none of them had heard the tales. From time to time, Axel stopped narrating and glided over the lines, taking in details he should have known, but couldn't place. During these silences, Zed and Vee would look up at him to assess his emotions, whether or not the words shifted the pieces into place or made any difference at all.
Axel took in a strained breath. "Ivar and I aren't talking. He wants to be the leader on this ship, and if things don't go his way, he turns into a giant douche-nozzle," he broke into giggling at his insult. "I haven't eaten in three days, and the water supply is low. We're down to a cup a day each. It's not enough, but it's gotten us through so far. One of the guys got sick, and they've taken him below deck. He throws up constantly even though there's nothing in his gut and howls all night in agony. I swear to God I'll shoot him in the head tomorrow if he doesn't let us sleep tonight. Someone needs to put him out of his misery."
Zed grimaced, and Vee stared at the ceiling with dry eyes, unflinching from the story.
"Day six... I now know what rat meat tastes like."
"Oh, god. Ew," Zed mumbled.
Axel continued without pause. "It's not that bad when you haven't eaten in almost a week. I've set up more traps in the galley to catch the rest. If Ivar plays his cards right, I might share my rats with him, but he's still a stuck-up twat.
I'm not sure how the rats are surviving. Maybe there's food still hidden somewhere on the ship. Maybe they're eating each other."
"This must have been when you were on your way back to America...Or... Whatever you want to call this half of the world now," Vee said.
"What do you mean?" Asked Axel.
"The Unity... The government... They abolished the borders, erased the country names and burned the history books. The states became part of the North-Western Hemisphere. Same with Canada and all that. No countries. No names."
Axel seemed to accept his brother's explanation that nothing would ever be as before. The commune in which he now resided was the only tangible place left in existence. Outside the walls lay sites changed from war, stripped of home and heritage. A tightness in Axel's neck prevented him from speaking until the revelations grew too heavy for him to bear.
"What happened to everyone else?" Axel asked.
"It's hard to say," Vee whispered, then cleared his throat. "A lot of people died."
"How many?"
"Billions," Zed said.
"You mean... We're the only ones left?"
"No, we're not. There are other survivors out there, people who were meant to live through the storms."
"Storms?"
Vee sighed, the farfetched nature of their fates exhausting him before he began. "The Unity developed a way to return the planet back to its natural state. No more electronic communication, no more broadcasts or satellites or TV. After the extinctions reached an all-time high, they introduced these plants that could suck the pollution from the air quickly. They grow extremely fast and are lethal to anyone who wasn't vaccinated against the spores. One plant can release a spore cloud big enough to cover half a football field, and they breed and multiply like vermin. Even a small cluster can kill a stadium of unimmunized people in a few minutes."
"But why would they do this? Have I been vaccinated?"
Axel's questions ripped holes in Vee’s composure. Zed's stomach churned and flipped as the scientist fished for the least aggressive explanation. A gloss came over his eyes, and he avoided his brother's bewildered stare.
"No, Axe. You're not."
"Oh... Are you?" Axel whispered.
"Yeah, I am. So is Lea."
"Why? Why didn't I get vaccinated?"
"You were lost at sea with your platoon for weeks, and before that, you were overseas. They didn't immunize the troops."
"Are you telling me the government wants us all to die?"
"Most of this is widely debated. There are some theories that the Unity had a strategy in mind."
Zed lent the scientist a hand and cut the heavy topic with a smile. "Axel, you're much more special than you know. Those people out there all adore you because of what you've done for Kinderfeld. You were the only one brave enough to go out when they needed supplies. People know your name not only here but out in the world. I've seen you fight and shoot. You're a natural."
"Well, yeah. I've been shooting guns since I was a kid."
"You were a special ops sniper. More than just a good shot."
Axel warmed to the compliment. "And what about you? Are you the mercenary of my dreams?"
Zed blushed and failed to hide her pride. "Not a mercenary... But I've murked a few Scavs in my day."
"Man... I like you," Axel tittered. "Ain't she great, Vee? What a prize."
For the few seconds of silence that passed, Vee's expression darkened. He recognized the reverence pulling Axel's features, the heartfelt way Lea relaxed when they spoke. Even in the absence of memory, Axel and Zed forged a bond too strong to pry apart. He would never wish ill upon his brother, but he mourned the days past with the woman whose eyes shone like vats of golden syrup passing under the morning light. At the risk of sharing a likeness with Ivar, the king who could never quite capture the woman's love, Vee thought of what life might have been like had Axel never returned. Would Zed love him? Could she? Had he ever toed the waters of her unspoken affection? Vee cursed his stupidity the night he told her how he felt and quickly dismantled his chances before she had the opportunity to consider him more than a close friend.
As Zed stared at Axel upright in his bed with his journals splayed out around him, Vee knew it was too late to rescind his platonic claim. A victim of his own sabotage, the scientist turned from them and pushed out every last ounce of breath to make room for another stale intake.
"I think it's time I showed Axel the Crimson Yawn."
Zed nodded and left the brothers, sensing a gloomy air rising between them. Vee was much better at explaining the inexplicable. He delivered news with a needed bluntness, one Zed had never mastered. Once she left the lab searching for distractions, Vee helped his brother box up the journals and offered his elbow to guide Axel back on his feet. Amid the bleak news, Axel had almost forgotten the pain in his extremities.
They waddled to the locked chambers where the bulk of Vee's scientific discoveries came to light. Axel squinted against the bright white walls and polished floor as he followed his brother through a series of doors leading to a clear dome similar to the greenhouses he'd found, only this hollow contained a twisted swarm of redheaded plants, mouths bloody and agape. Each one stood over seven feet tall and lifted its black-spotted maw to the sky in a silent scream. Axel turned from them.
"I've seen these before, but never this many. In my dreams, there's always one growing in a container."
"You recognize them?"
"And you say these things can kill me? How is it possible?" Axel asked.
"They're a sophisticated hybrid plant. They release spores like mushrooms, and those spores become airborne. If you breathe them in, they attack your blood, soaking up the nutrients and essentially turning it into a highly acidic jelly. You burn from the inside out. Well...Dissolve is a better word."
"And you've brought me here why!?" Axel shouted, dodging backward and planting too much weight on his bad ankle.
"Don't worry! They can't hurt you from in here. The filtration system's design protects everything inside."
"I still have a hard time believing all this. You know how crazy it sounds, right?"
Vee clapped his brother on the shoulder. "Oh, I realize. Why do you think it took me so long to break the news? You try finding a delicate way to explain this to someone who just came out of a coma."
Axel became transfixed on the plants again after Vee's assurance. He shuffled to the glass and studied the roaring heads, each one slightly different than its neighbour. They resembled demons, bizarre red monsters with thick necks and broad leaves of wax. Their spiked roots toiled in the ground, gnarled and tangled in a hellish orgy above and beneath the soil. Beyond the ranks, Axel saw the roiling jungle and all its hues of green and black. The sun broke through parts in the towering trees. How he longed to feel the wind on his burnt skin and walk among the flora. Axel observed the plants for a few minutes as Vee stepped back and allowed him time to digest.
"Am I in a nightmare?" Axel met his brother's eyes and did not blink.
"Some might say that. And I'm sorry. I've dedicated my life to making things better for the survivors, but there's nothing left I can do. All we have now is the village and each other."
"And mom and dad?"
"They're gone, Axe. They've been gone a while."
The tattooed man swallowed bitterly and nodded as a wall of tears blinded him. Vee touched his brother's shoulder and shared his pain through the comforting gesture. Axel crossed his chest with his good hand and patted Vee's fingers.
"Do you mind if I spend some time alone? This is... It's just a lot."
"Of course. Take all the time you need, Axe. I'll leave the doors unlocked. You good to walk?"
Axel's voice floated below a whisper. "I’ll manage."
~*~
In the apartment, Zed held her arms out before her and swung them in half-circles, stretching her muscles in preparation for another stiff night spent on the sofa. Vee came in after dinner and found Zed flinging her limbs outward.
"Nightly aerobics?" He asked with a touch of humour, the most he could muster after a day of harsh truths.
"Just stretching out before bed. My back's been killing me."
"Oh," Vee's green eyes popped open wide. "Don't sleep on the couch, Lea. You can take the bed tonight."
"Nah, it's okay."
"No, really. I insist. You deserve a night without hanging off the edge of the cushions."
"Then where will you sleep?" She asked.
"The couch."
Zed laughed at the idea. "You're far too tall to fit comfortably."
"I've passed out there dozens of times. Don't worry about me, really. Take the bed."
"Why're you being so nice, huh?" Zed snorted.
"I've seen you in pain the last few days, and I feel bad. It's rude of me to have one of the biggest beds in this place when I don't do anything to deserve it."
"Oh, shush," Zed jested. "You've done more for this place than anyone."
"There's always the Chrysalis."
The good humour in the room vanished with Vee's maladroit suggestion. Zed shook her head and scoffed. "I'm not going to the Chrysalis. I want to stay here with you guys."
"Fine by me. You'll take the bed tonight then. Grab your blankets and go."
Zed and Vee swapped bedding and wished each other goodnight. Though she deemed herself undeserving of the luxury, when Zed crawled onto Vee's large bed and spread her limbs from corner to corner, her skin bristled with goosebumps. The scent of the sheets belonged to the man outside the room, sprawled on the sofa, long legs dangling over the arm—cotton and boyish musk, the redolence Zed had grown accustomed to except in this moment. Lying on the mattress reminded her of the hugs and closeness she'd received from Vee when Axel had fled.
She relived their days together in clips of happy memories and some not so joyful. Across the apartment, Vee recalled the same night playing in Zed's mind—their evening in the greenhouse when they'd held hands, so close together yet barred by the promises of friendship. Vee cursed himself repeatedly while Zed entertained the idea of getting together with the scientist.
Soon, Zed's thoughts slid over the night she'd spent with Ivar. If she concentrated, she could feel the fullness between her legs still. Ivar had made love to her the way couples did in films. He'd stroked her and kissed her skin, took her nipples gently between his lips and sucked until she giggled. What might have excited some left her shivering. Was one of the brothers more deserving of her love? Was she foolish to think herself so desirable her attention was a coveted badge of excellence?
What a prize!
Lea... I want you to tell me no, right now.
It's like you were made for me.
With her heart racing, Zed turned over in bed and clamped her eyes shut. Debating which of the three men in her life she wanted more made her stomach flip, yet she couldn't keep the lewd considerations from pouring into her head. In these fantasies, she replaced Ivar with Vee. Yes, he was smart and gentle and keen on her, but he'd told her not to let him cross the line, claimed he didn't want her that way despite his feelings. Vee's kind face took the place of Ivar's, coasting down her stomach, stamping her thighs with kisses from luscious lips. She squeezed her legs together and let the inevitable shift knock Vee from the picture to make room for his older brother.
The tattooed man with all his addictions and his looming depression positioned himself between her knees and grasped her ankles delicately. A murderer and womanizer leaned over her body, caging her with long limbs decorated with sparrows, weapons, chains and barbed wire.
We're meant to be together. I see you in my dreams every time I fall asleep.
Zed bit her lip when the phantom sensation invaded her. She knew not how Axel would moan or if he'd coo and sigh the way Ivar had when they had sex. She wanted very much to think Axel would treat her with respect and scorned the claims Trinity had made about his wild side. Then the obscene journal entries came to life, glowing, fanned by salacious visions. What if she didn't want to make love? What if she wanted to be taken hard and fast by a man who worshiped her? Guilt and arousal mixed in her chest and sat heavy, grinning evilly like a demon poised to possess her body.
Sleep wriggled through Zed's conjurations and pulled her under before she realized she was slipping into blackness. The cozy bed and Vee's sheets lulled her, and soon, she dreamed of ordinary things, forgetting her personal stash of pornographic thoughts. She slipped further as the moon made a lazy arc through the night sky until something touched her shoulder and jarred her from sleep with a sharp gasp.
Her scream ripped through the apartment, sending her waker toppling out of bed.
"Lea? Oh, fuck. Fuck!"
"Axel?"
In the dimness, neither of them saw each other but tasted each other's heavy breath. Soon the light snapped on, and Vee stood at the door, chest heaving.
"What the hell is going on?" Vee asked. "Axel? What're you doing?"
"Christ, I thought Zed was you. I just came to... Well, I couldn't sleep," Axel cringed. "Shit, my hand. Fuck, I landed like a sack of bricks."
Vee snickered, setting off a series of giggles. "You came to sleep in my bed?"
"I didn't mean to scare you, Lea."
"It's all right," said Zed. "Really. On any other night, it would have been Vee in here."
Axel pulled himself up by the elbows and sat on the edge of the bed, grimacing from the agony of his agitated wounds. "Sorry, guys. It's hard to sleep out there. People are watching me."
Zed scooted over and patted the part of the mattress warm from her body. "Come on. Lie down. I think we could all use a sleepover after the day we've had."
"You're not serious," Vee said with a scoff as his brother took up Zed's offer and laid down next to her.
Zed nodded with conviction. "Absolutely. You too, Valter. Turn off the light and get over here."
He rolled his eyes as he flipped the light switch. "This is hardly a three-person bed."
"Well, cuddle up, pal."
"Lea takes up a fraction of the bed, anyway," Axel pointed out.
"Is this not weird to you? Three adults sharing a bed?"
Zed moved to the center as Vee climbed into bed from the left. To her right, Axel had already sprawled and turned over to face her in the dark.
"It's no stranger than how half the people in this place sleep all piled on top of each other. Humans were meant to nest. In the wild, this is how we'd sleep."
"Yeah, but we're not in the wild," said Vee.
"Yes, we are, little brother. Have you seen it outside? We're literally in glass bubbles, in the middle of a rainforest. Now shut up, and go to sleep."
"You shut up."
"Guys?" Zed chimed.
"Yeah?" The brothers answered.
"I love you both.”
Robbed of their voices, Axel and Vee set aside their bickering to bask in the genial haze of Zed's words. Axel shifted an inch closer while Vee laid stiffly on his side, eyes wide in the dark. As though her claim was bathed in wine, they soaked in the meaning and slipped drunkenly into slumber.

It wasn’t hard to find the Prince in the crowd of people. All you had to do was look for Queen Esmera’s crown, and he was close by. It was getting to him without his father noticing that was the problem. You watched him, waiting for him to break away from the table so you could more safely approach him.
The break came a few hours after he broke away from the rest of his family. He stood, straightening his suit jacket, and started toward the hallway to the left of the backrooms. He met Salicia on the way, and whispered something to her, which elicited a giggle in response. Your brows furrowed as you watched the way they interacted, trying to figure out what was going on. But your observations were cut short by the bartender.
“Can ya bring this to Lord Jango’s table?” He thrust something at you. It was a juice pouch, likely ordered for the Lord’s son who had been dozing for a while now. You sighed but didn’t argue, carefully making your way toward the Mandalorian regent. You passed Embo on the way, and he offered you a wink.
You bowed your head as you approached, offering Lord Jango the pouch since his son was asleep with his head on the table. Lord Jango raked a hand through Boba’s unruly curls, and spoke soft words in Mando’a to try to wake him. The kid roused, sleepily reaching for the juice pouch, and Jango dismissed you with a thanks.
You limped back toward the back room, stopping short of the door and turning to see if you could find Prince Embo anywhere. He had vanished in that short period of time, but judging by his trajectory, he either went outside or to the restroom… so maybe you could intercept him on the way back.
You started down the hall, passing the bathrooms. Though you intended to pass by the restrooms, a decidedly feminine giggle from the men’s room intrigued you. You drew closer, listening to the wet slurps sounding from within, and spikes of pleasure shot to your cunt.
You pressed your ear to the door; if anyone was to ask, you were merely curious… but a part of you found these obscene sounds arousing. You had to fight the urge to jam your hands between your legs and finger yourself. Deciding that this was too much of a temptation to you, you moved and turned away.
“I know you are out there. If there is something you need, you can come in.” You froze where you stood, embarrassed. You could recognize the voice as that of Prince Embo, so this would be the time to let him know of your decision. At the same time, though, you wanted to run and escape this predicament.
Deciding against running, you poked your head in, and a small squeak left your lips before you could stop it. Prince Embo was leaning against the wall while Salicia was sucking him off! You met her gaze and she froze, mortified.
“What is it that you want?” He inquired, quirking a browridge. He seemed rather nonchalant about this situation, despite the reactions of both you and his pleaser.
“I… uh… thought about your offer.” You answered, stumbling over your words. You did your best to avert your gaze, but it was easier said than done.
“And?”
“I’ll come with you.”
“Brilliant. Give me… ten minutes, and I will come to collect you.” He ran a hand over the base of Salicia’s lekku.
“Okay.” You stiffly left the bathroom and found a bench outside to sit on; your eyes were wide, and your hands were clasped on your lap patiently. Whenever someone approached the restroom, you waved them away; apparently, the haunted look on your face was enough to deter them from pushing forward.
Like a man of his word, the Prince was out in ten minutes, acting as though nothing had happened at all. Salicia wouldn’t meet your gaze as she scurried past you, and the Prince didn’t regard her at all. He eased onto the bench beside you, and cast you a glance.
“You look as though you have seen a ghost.”
“I saw your cock.” You replied, glancing over at him. A part of you was embarrassed for interrupting them… but a dark part of you wanted nothing more than to see it again… to be the one with your lips wrapped around it. Your pussy pulsed, and you bit your lip.
“And?”
“I wasn’t expecting it. I figured that… well… it’d be quite a while longer before I saw it.” You admitted, and he chuckled in response.
“I suppose my reputation precedes me.” He leaned back against the wall, crossing his arms over his chest. “My parents intend to stay here for a few hours, but we may depart, if that is what you desire.”
“Yeah… I would really like a place to put my foot up.” You admitted, and he cast a glance to your wrapped ankle.
“That may be wise. I can carry you, if that would help.”
“I’m alright… thank you.” You got up and he did the same, towering over you. You couldn’t help but blush at this. He offered you his arm, and though you were unsure of his true intentions for you, you looped your arm around his. Resting some of your weight on him did help your ankle feel better as you walked toward the adjacent Azvergin Hotel.
The hotel, which catered exclusively to billionaires and royalty, was largely a mystery to you. You either had to be staff to said clientele, or a member of these groups in order to be let inside. Rumor had it that one could rent an entire floor, long term, for fifty million credits! You’d never see that kind of money in your life, but you knew this was spare change to the Kyuzan Royal Family. Queen Esmera’s crown collection was worth more than that, you were sure.
He led you through the vast security detail, and you noted that some of the guards rolled their eyes. You wondered just how many commoners he had brought through the doors. You wondered if Salicia had been one of them, or if the blowjob was a one-off thing. He led you toward the lift, and you climbed inside with him. He punched in the number ‘20’, and the lift slowly started ascending.
“How many… uh… people have you brought to your room?” You asked, though you weren’t sure if he would appreciate that. He shrugged at this.
“More than I can keep track of.” He admitted.
“And your parents are… okay with this?”
“They have no say in the matter.” He replied bluntly. “I am an adult. I do as I please.”
“I… well… can’t fight that logic.”
The doors to the lift slid open, and he gestured for you to exit. The halls were a warm tan wood dotted with sparkling gems. There were grand murals hanging from the walls, depicting the royal family in various activities. A portrait of the seven caught your eyes - they were all so graceful, so imposing. They looked as though they knew the power they held and delighted in it.
You heard a small laugh from a room nearby, and a door slid open; a young child darted out, being chased by another child of a similar age. The two darted between you and Embo, before disappearing into a different room. You glanced at the closing door, and then at Embo.
“They are not mine, if that is what you’re implying. They’re my father’s bastard children.” He growled, his browridges furrowed. You looked down at the wooden floors.
“Oh. I’m… sorry.”
“Do not apologize. It is not your dysfunction.” Was all he said in response. He brought you to a room far from the lift, and gestured to this. “This is my room. You will be safest there. I will fetch you a cot.”
“Are you sure that… you’re okay with me being here?”
“Of course. I would not have offered otherwise.” His guards opened the doors for you, and Embo gestured into it. “Go on. I will return shortly.”
You stepped into the room, hearing the door shut behind you; his room was much smaller than you were expecting, though perhaps that was by design. His bed was laid out on the floor, covered with sheets of gold thread-trimmed silk. He had an armor stand nearby, equipped with what you could only assume was traditional armor and a large, circular, metal hat.
Along the back wall was a large wardrobe, which was cracked open; from what you could see, he mostly had clothes stored in there, but there was something metal that glimmered in the light.
You sat down in one of the chairs in his room, and propped your leg up on the other chair. It felt nice to put your foot up after such a long night. A maid shuffled in to tidy his room, and she offered you a glance; you waved, but she didn’t return the wave. Instead, she muttered something about the Prince’s ‘insatiable appetite’, and went about making his bed and clearing out a space for your cot.
Embo returned not long after, carrying another mattress in his arms. He laid it down on the cleared space, and the maid rustled around in his wardrobe for extra sheets and pillows. Embo let her do her job, and instead sat on the arm of the chair your leg was resting on.
“That bandage was wrapped incorrectly. Would you like me to fix it?” He noted, and you nodded.
“If you would.”
You moved your leg and he sat on the chair, gesturing for you to rest your foot on his lap. He gingerly unwound the bandages, taking care not to jostle your ankle too much. He then went about rewrapping your injury, taking care that the bandages were tight enough to compress it without causing further injury. You watched his ministrations curiously.
“I was a part of my planet’s military. All must learn to care for minor injuries.” He explained, as if sensing your curiosity. He patted your foot and you lifted it off of his lap.
“You were allowed to serve as a Prince?”
“I was required to. I did not have much of a choice.” He crossed his legs and leaned back as the maid finished up and departed from his room. He glanced over at the bed beside his. “You must be tired. I can offer one of my shirts for sleep. Tomorrow, we will go fetch your things.”
“How long will I be here?” You asked, and he shrugged.
“I am sorry… I cannot stay. As long as you desire, I suppose.” He stood and rummaged through his wardrobe for an old shirt. He tossed it to you. “My restroom is to the right. Feel free to use it as you need.”
You gathered the shirt up in your hand and limped into the bathroom; it was just as large as his room, with a large tub and a shower off to the side. You quickly undressed from your uniform and slipped on the large shirt. It was soft and smelled woodsy, just like him; you eased out of the bathroom, trying your best not to disturb his own undressing.
You slipped into your bed, and though you did your best to ignore him, you couldn’t help but turn to watch him. His body was lean and muscular, etched with little scars you figured were from his days in the military. You averted your gaze as he rucked off his pants, worried that he might not be happy with you trying to catch a glimpse of his cock.
He eased into his bed and the lights went dark. There was no propositioning, no forceful entreats for sex… just… quiet. It was not what you expected from such a playboy. You stayed awake for a while, waiting for something to happen - but nothing did. A part of you was… disappointed, you supposed, though you couldn’t pinpoint why.
Your sleep came soon after, but you were restless. You didn’t like sleeping with strangers, even if he had shown no interest in being with you. You were vulnerable… and you didn’t like being vulnerable.
You awoke when he slipped out of bed; you peeked open an eye, watching to make sure he didn’t approach. Instead, he padded almost silently toward the restroom, and closed the door behind him. You waited a while for him to return, but he didn’t come - instead, he turned on the shower. Seemed like an odd time to take a shower, but he was a Prince; you figured that he did what he wanted, when he wanted.
You laid awake, listening to the shower for what felt like an hour. He hadn’t made a sound, and a part of you was worried that he had died in there. It sounded absurd, but the more time passed, the more worried you became. Slowly, you got up and trekked toward the bathroom. You didn’t bother knocking, and instead slipped inside.
Your gaze found him in the shower, hurriedly stroking his long, hard cock; his eyes were squeezed shut, and he seemed close to orgasm. You covered your mouth to stifle your gasp, but it wasn’t enough; his eyes shot open and his gaze found yours. You blushed embarrassedly. His pace never faltered.
“You have a knack for -fuck- walking in at inopportune moments.” He said, bucking into his hand. You drew closer despite yourself, and he didn’t protest.
“I’m sorry… I thought you had died in here.” You admitted, and he managed a chuckle.
“No… I am not dead… just taking care of a problem.”
“I can see that. Did you want help?” You watched as his pace grew erratic, and he came in the shower; he just kept cumming and cumming, spilling more than a human ever could. When he was done, he leaned back against the shower wall, panting. “Nevermind.”
“You can still be of use to me.” He stood straight, and turned the shower off. He met your gaze, his eyes glowing bright with a feral lust. His cock, which had softened for a mere moment, went hard once more, and your eyes went wide. You have never seen that happen before. “Climb up onto my bed and get prepared for me.”
Your cunt throbbed at the deep, needy entreat, and you turned to vacate the bathroom. You eagerly climbed up onto Embo’s bed and your hand went to your clit. You gave it slow, even strokes, and wetness quickly started leaking from your cunt. Your other hand probed at your entrance, and a finger slipped in, testing how receptive you were to intrusions. You were still quite tight, but a quick massage of your g-spot helped fix that issue. You squirmed against your own hand as you slipped another finger into you.
“Fuck…” You whined, jacking your hips up against your hand. You heard the quiet whir of some machine, and the oxygen levels spiked. Your head started to spin, and you glanced up to see Embo discarding his mask on some end table nearby. “This doesn’t feel safe…”
“It will not be for long. You will be okay.” He promised as he approached, climbing up onto the bed and leaning over you. He drew closer to you, his hot breath dancing on your lips. “I want to taste you. Is that permitted?”
“Yes.” You managed, spreading your legs open even wider for him. He shifted downward, settling between your legs; he drew a finger up and down the slit of your cunt, acquainting himself with your clit and lips. Then, his tongue snaked out, sneaking between the lips to prod at your cunt; with little effort, his surprisingly long tongue slipped inside. You shot upright, your heart pounding as his tongue went deeper, further than any human could ever go; he hummed contentedly, the vibrations shaking you to the core. You gripped the sheets on his bed tightly, a strangled whine leaving your lips; he lapped at your cunt greedily, as if he loved the way you tasted.
“So delectable.” He pulled away, licking his lips with that wicked tongue. He slipped a finger inside, slowly and steadily thrusting it in and out of your cunt.
“I… I didn’t think a prince would stoop to this.” You admitted, desperately wanting his tongue again but you weren’t sure how to ask for it.
“And why not?” He inquired, his tongue slithering out to tease at your clit. You whimpered, and he responded by doubling down, dragging his tongue up and down your clit, before leaning close to take it into his mouth.
“Didn’t think… fuck!... Didn’t think you’d be interested in my pleasure.”
“What would be the fun in the alternative?” He inquired as he pulled away from your clit. He jacked his finger into you quicker, harder, watching the way you squirmed with a feral arousal. “In my youth, I was a greedy lover. I have long since found the good in pleasing my partners. Would you prefer that I just shove my cock in you?”
You glanced down at his cock, which was probably one of -if not the- largest cocks you had ever taken. You knew that going in without any foreplay would likely be quite painful, and potentially even damaging. You shook your head and he chuckled, lowering his mouth again.
“That is what I thought.” He retracted his finger from you, and his tongue slipped in you once more. The noises he drew from you were honestly a little embarrassing, but you hardly noticed them with the burning in your lungs and the spikes of pleasure shooting from your cunt. You pulled his head closer to you, riding his tongue as it lapped at your walls; the warmth, which welled in your stomach, was on the precipice of boiling over, and it seemed that he could tell. He pressed a thumb to your clit, and you exploded with a rush of fluids and cry of pure ecstasy.
When you came to, he was hovering over you, his mask on and the oxygen lowering to a more comfortable percentage. He waited for your gaze to meet his, before he leaned down, nearing your ear.
“May I take you?”
“Yes!” You cried, and he chuckled; before you could register what was happening, he rolled you onto your stomach and lifted your hips.
“Eager little thing.” He drew the head of his cock around your entrance, slicking it up, before pushing into your drooling cunt. You gasped, your hand flying to your mouth to prevent unholy sounds from leaving your lips; Embo just hummed and removed your hand. “I do wish to hear you.”
“I don’t want to be too loud…”
“There is no need to worry. My walls were made sound-proof.” He eased more of his length into you, earning him a high-pitched screech. He paused. “Is it hurting?”
“No! No….” You moaned, his sheets gripped tightly in your hand. He looked you over, making sure you were telling him the truth, before proceeding.
His pace was painstaking, as he was worried about hurting you. But you couldn’t take it much longer. You started pressing your hips toward his, impaling yourself on his cock… but goddess if it didn’t feel wonderful.
“Easy, easy.” He told you, but you didn’t listen. You needed his cock so desperately, and before you knew it, you had taken him to the hilt. Your stomach was distended from taking his entire length, and you pressed a hand to feel his cock poking through. You moaned as Embo’s hands found their way to your breasts. “Good… you are so good for taking my cock like this.”
You could hardly hold yourself up at this point, and he hadn’t even started thrusting; he rolled your nipples between his fingers, purring at the way your pussy clenched around him. He pulled you up flush against him, his hands moving from your breasts to your neck and clit. He squeezed lightly, and your head lolled back against his broad shoulder. A quick rub of your clit made your legs shake.
“You are so easy to please.” He purred in your ear, tightening his grip on your neck just a little bit. Your head swam and your eyes slid shut. “Would you like for me to go faster?”
“Yes, Prince, yes!” You cried out, and he released his hold on you. You slumped onto the bed and he grabbed your hips. His thrusts were slow and even at first, his cock hitting places you hadn’t known existed before this; every pull of his cock along your sensitive walls sent sparks of arousal to your cunt. Holding your orgasm back was easier said than done… you were so close...
He went faster, harder, gripping your hips tight enough to bruise. Your cunt tightened around him, and he slowed his pace.
“You are close?”
“Yes.” You moaned, and he reached down to pinch your clit between two of his fingers. You let out a scream as you orgasmed, soaking him with your fluids and going limp on his bed. Your cunt milked his cock for all it was worth, and he orgasmed soon after.
He pulled out, and you felt a gush of his seed leaving your cunt. You slowly caught your breath, and sat up.
“Wow…”
“Thank you for the help, my dear.” He reached out to stroke your cheek. “I foresee this being a… wonderful arrangement for the both of us.”
You couldn’t agree more.

Hurt Me
John Ryder (The Hitcher 2007) x F Reader (NSFW)
Summary: Your car breaks down along a deserted stretch of road. The man that stops to pick you up might be the best or worst thing to ever happen to you.
There is a disturbing lack of content for this man and I intend to remedy that.
Warnings: Dubcon, masochistic reader, mention of family death, knife play, blood play, fear play, fingering, slapping, violence, blood, creampie
 ~~
Smoke billows from under the hood of your 1999 Piece of Garbage Accord. You curse under your breath, hitting the steering wheel with your palms as though that will stop the inevitable death of the engine. With a final, guttering sigh, the car rolls to a stop along the endless stretch of New Mexican highway.
           Stupid fucking car.
You’d done as the signs had instructed. You hadn’t run the air conditioning all day, instead leaving the windows down so miserably hot, desert air could blow your hair into a rat’s nest. Still, your shitty car had decided to die anyway.
After banging your head against the steering wheel for a solid minute, you pop the hood and slip out of the car. You stare at the innards of your smoking vehicle, wondering why the hell you’re even bothering. You know nothing about cars. You don’t even know what’s wrong let alone how to fix it.
The sun had set about two hours ago, and the heat had gone with it. The thick layer of sweat that had accumulated over your entire body like a slimy shell is now chilling you to the bone, your thin jacket doing little to keep you warm. A breeze picks up too, making you shiver and hunch down further in your coat.
Scrubbing a hand down your face, you walk to the yellow line along the side of the highway, looking despairingly back and forth. You are alone, the rushing of wind and chirping of crickets the only sound. You’d maybe only seen about three cars all day and even if someone drove by, the likelihood they would stop to pick you up is minimal. No one picks up hitchhikers anymore.
Your cell phone had croaked last week and you had yet to acquire enough funds to replace it. So, your options are to walk until you find a gas station or wait in your car for…for what? A miracle?
Decision made for you, you retrieve your keys and wallet and head east. You can’t remember what the last sign had said about the next service station, but you have a sneaking suspicion it is much farther than you’re comfortable walking. You wore the wrong shoes for this.
Hours passed and you’re still plodding along down the road. Your hips and knees ache and your shoes have rubbed your ankles raw. You’re just beginning to hope a pack of coyotes will come and kill you when you hear it; the rumbling of an engine careening down the road toward you.
You twist around and see a set of headlights approaching quickly. You wave your arms and try to look as distressed as you can. Please, please, please stop….
The car slows. You can feel the noisy roar of the engine vibrating in your own chest. A black Trans Am rolls to a stop ahead of you.
“Jesus, thank you, thank you,” you repeat, running to the open window. Bending to peek inside you find a lone middle-aged man, caramel colored hair trimmed short, copious stubble peppering a strong jaw. He flashes you a disarming smile, white teeth almost abnormally straight.
“You okay? Was that your car I saw back there?” he asks, voice deep and smooth like bourbon. Your eyes flick to the wedding ring on his finger. If he’s married that might cut down on the chance of him being a murderer.
“Yeah, the old bitch died on me.” The man chuckles and you can’t help the smile that pulls at your lips.
“Hop in, I’ll take you to the next gas station.” He seems nice enough, but that’s how they get you, isn’t it? But what choice did you have? Keep walking until your feet bleed or until you freeze to death? What are the odds he’ll hurt you, anyway?
“Thank you so much, I really appreciate it.” You slip into the passenger seat, slamming the door shut. The engine roars and you’re off, speeding down the road at a speed you’re not entirely comfortable with. You’re loath to say anything, though, lest you lose your ride. You buckle your seatbelt instead.
“I’m John,” he says, quickly throwing another charming smile your way before turning his eyes back to the road. You tell him your name and fight the blush creeping across your cheeks. He’s handsome, no denying that, but something feels a bit off. It’s his eyes. They’d looked…empty. The smile hadn’t reached them.
It’s warm in the cab, much warmer than outside. You slip out of your jacket, John unabashedly watching as you do. Married, you’re married, dude….
“Where you headed?” he asks, fiddling with the stereo. Some sappy love song croons through the speakers. John switches it off, instead letting the hum of the engine fill the car.
“Amarillo. My, uh…my aunt passed. Her funeral’s tomorrow.”
            “Oh, sorry to hear.”
“Thanks. How about you?” You’re anxious to change the subject before you recall too much of the conversation with your mother you’d had earlier in the week. John hums in thought at your question.
“Wherever I end up.” You find that answer odd. What about the wedding ring? Doesn’t he have a wife?
“No one…no one to get home to?” you inquire, unease beginning to settle in your belly. Out of the corner of his eye, he catches you glancing at his ring. His lips twitch up in a smirk.
             “No.”
“Oh,” is all you can come up with. You swallow, regretting your decision to get in this car. So, he doesn’t have a wife? Or something happened to her? You don’t understand, but you’re afraid to ask, afraid to know the answer.
Glancing at the passenger side door, you find there is no door handle. Your heart stutters. There’s no visible lock either. John must notice because he chuckles again, low and dark.
You shriek when he slams on the breaks, your seatbelt catching you hard in the chest but saving you from smashing into the dash. John cranks the wheel, whipping the car onto a dirt side road. Your nails dig into the seat as the car thunders down the uneven path before skidding to a stop.
There’s nothing around you but an endless stretch of moonlight desert, no one around for miles and miles. No one to save you. You’re alone, completely alone with this man. Get out, run.
You scrabble at your seatbelt but as soon as it slips off your shoulder there’s a click to your left. You freeze when cool steel meets your throat. A knife. You release a tremulous exhale through your nose and settle back into your seat, your heart slamming against your ribs so loud you think he can probably hear it.
“Good girl,” John purrs, killing the engine and unbuckling his own seat belt. The sudden silence is unnerving, no noise around you but for your shallow breaths. He reaches under his seat and pulls the lever, sliding the seat back as far as it can go. “C’mere,” he says, spreading his legs and patting his thigh.
You stare at him fearfully, eyes wide. You can’t believe this is happening, can’t believe your shit luck. Out of all the people in this entire state to pick you up, it had to be this psycho.
You hiss when he presses the knife into your skin just hard enough to prick and draw blood. It’s a warning. As scarlet trickles down past the collar of your shirt, you suppress the shiver the stinging pain brings, clench your thighs to stop the pleasure that zings up between them. Not now. That is the last thing you need.
Sweat beading along your brow, you clamber over the center console to straddle his legs and settle into his lap. That smile is back, friendly, pleasant but for his eyes. His eyes are dead, empty as he drags them down your figure. You quickly look away, not wanting him to see the flush in your cheeks.
Out of the corner of your eye, you watch John’s eyes narrow curiously. Knife still pressed against your flesh, he grips your chin with his free hand, turning your head until you’re looking at him again. You tremble in his grip, two parts terrified of him, one part fearful he’s going to discover your little secret.
He knows something is up. You can see it in the way his eyes study your rosy cheeks and heaving chest. Leisurely, he drags the knife lightly down your sternum, between your breasts, past your waist before lifting the hem of your shirt with the blade. You squeak when he exposes your bra before stuffing the edge of your shirt in your mouth.
“Hold that,” he orders before turning his attention to your abdomen. In a flash he cuts you, blade slicing horizontally through your flesh, deep crimson spilling down your stomach and soaking into your jeans. As hot, sharp pain morphs into sticky pleasure, your muffled scream tapers off into a warbly moan. You flush a dark red, hating yourself for allowing that noise to escape you.
“Interesting,” he murmurs before ripping your shirt from your mouth, sawing through the fabric and tearing it away from your body. You screech and thrash, falling still when the knife returns to your neck. The metallic scent of your blood fills the cab, sharp and pungent in your nose.
Once again, blade meets flesh and John carves a sloppy line under your collar bone. You grunt and try your best to stifle the mewl that slips off your tongue, but he hears it anyway. John lets out a breathy laugh, smearing the blood leaking from the newest slash up your neck with the palm of his hand.
“Never seen that before,” he comments, more to himself than you. Tears prick at the corners of your eyes, your bottom lip quivering under his bloody thumb when he caresses the skin. He continues, speaking directly to you now, “You like it.”
You shake your head, another scream ripping from your throat when he traces a rib with the blade, splitting your flesh open until you’re leaking crimson. You can’t mask the shaky moan, the “Please,” that sneaks from your mouth and you hang your head in shame. Between your thighs, you’re burning, soaking your underwear, quivering and needy. Desperate for friction, you grind down into his lap, pulling a startled grunt from him.
“Fuck,” John mutters, fisting a hand in your hair and yanking your head back, latching onto your neck and dragging his tongue through the blood smeared across your skin. He bites you under the jaw, hard, probably hard enough to break the skin. You whine and arch into his mouth, hand flying to the window to brace yourself.
“How far have you taken this?” he asks, tilting your head back down until you’re looking into his dead eyes. There’s a spark there now, curiosity and a little heat. You release a haggard breath and shake your head to calm your racing thoughts.
“U-um, I…have—haven’t, really,” you stammer. Why are you telling him this? John’s eyes narrow. He’s connecting the dots.
“No one knows,” he says, mouth splitting into a grin, “Do they?” It isn’t a question. He can read you like a fucking book. He groans under his breath when you look away, blinking away the tears pooling along your bottom lid.
“It’ll be our secret,” he murmurs, tapping the flat of the knife against your lips. He releases your hair, fingers going to the button of your shorts and snapping them open. You tense and whimper when he pushes his hand inside to drag his fingers along your drenched slit.
“Fucking Christ,” he exclaims, pulling his hand from your panties and forcing you to look at your slick coating his fingers. He meets your heavy-lidded gaze and sucks the wet digits into his mouth. You inhale sharply, biting the inside of your cheek.
His hand returns to your underwear and he pushes two fingers past your folds, curling them delightfully. You keen, hips bucking into his hand when he massages that tender spot within you. His other hand goes to your hip, urging the roll of your hips.
“Fuck yourself, good, like that,” he instructs, hand leaving your hip to slip the knife under your ear. You can help the pleased little noises that escape you as you grind down onto his fingers. Delicious heat curls in your gut and, deliriously, you wonder how many shades of fucked up you are to be enjoying this.
“You want me to hurt you?” John asks, pulling your face down until your lips are inches from his own. You pant, only hesitating a moment before you nod. “Ask me,” he says through gritted teeth, huffing quietly when your wet cunt squelches around his fingers.
“P-Please…please h-hurt me, John,” you whisper. Christ, what if he kills you? Had you just signed your own death certificate?
“Polite,” John comments. Lightning fast, he twists and sinks the blade into the hand you have splayed out on the center console. You scream, tensing, riding out the putrid agony as it immobilizes your arm and groaning noisily as the pain is slowly replaced with feverish pleasure. You clench around the fingers inside you, feeling the heat curling into tight pressure.
“Jesus, you’re gonna cum, aren’t you?” He sounds shocked and almost…excited. You don’t hear what he says next as that pressure within you implodes, shock waves wracking your core. You sob, bowing forward as your hips twitch through mind-numbing climax.
John gives you no time to come down from your high. He rips the knife from you hand, pulling another shriek of pain from your throat. You cradle your mangled palm to your chest as he throws the car door open.
He shoves you hard and you tumble out the door with a muffled cry, sprawling on your ass in the dirt. John quickly follows, digging a hand in your hair and hauling you to your feet with the other hand under your armpit. Half shoving, half dragging, he forces you to the front of the car and shoves you down over the hood. The metal is still warm under your uninjured palm as you brace for the inevitable. Your heart races in your chest and you know you would beg for it if he wanted you to.
John rips your shorts off your hips. You hear the hasty slide of his zipper and the rustle of clothing and then you feel him at your entrance, hot and hard. One forceful thrust and he buries his cock completely within you.
You shout, the sweet ache of such a sudden intrusion making your stomach muscles clench. John wastes no time in hammering you into the hood of his car, heedless of any pain you might be feeling. He’s trying to hurt you, after all.
“Fuck, that’s tight,” John groans, using the hand in your hair to wrench your neck back painfully, too far. Your grunts of pain turn high and girlish, every brutal snap of his hips making the line between pleasure and pain blur until you can’t tell which is which anymore.
Drool and tears spill from you face onto the golden wings of the Firebird beneath your palms. You feel John’s fingers sneaking up your waist. He digs his nails into the gash on your ribs and your scream echoes across the quiet desert. Your vision narrows to pinpoints and your head lolls, falling against the hood with a quiet thud.
“No, not yet,” John growls, pulling out of you and flipping you onto your back. He slaps you across the cheek and your eyes snap open. You blink wildly, trying to orient yourself, but he’s already throwing your legs over his shoulder and lining up again.
“Look at me,” he orders, gripping your jaw and forcing your gaze to his. You see stars when he fucks into you, pitiful whimpers spilling from your parted lips.
“Yeah, yes, please, John, please, god, god, oh god—
You’re speaking, you think, but you’re not sure what you’re saying. Maybe you cum again, but the pain is finally starting to win out, your torso and hand throbbing in time with your fluttering heart. You’re dizzy, the Earth lurching horribly when you turn your head. You’ve lost too much blood you think, or maybe you’re still reeling from the orgasm.
Finally, John’s hips meet yours with one final, harsh thrust. Distantly, you hear him moan your name, feel the warmth in your cunt as he paints it white. Your eyelids droop and you reach out to clumsily pat his forearm.
John drops your legs. Without him to hold you up, you slip off the hood, landing in the dirt a second time with a grunt. You shiver, the ground cold against your bare skin. Cold, and so, so tired….
**
You awake to bright, piercing light behind your eyelids. You blink, scrunching your eyes. There’s an IV pole above you, bags dripping into a pump. You follow the line down to your arm. Scratchy hospital sheets grate against your legs, the stiff gown sagging down your shoulder. You ache in so many places, the deepest of which is between your legs.
“Officer, she’s awake!” Blearily, you look up as two cops enter the room. They look uncomfortable, glancing to one another, silently deciding who will speak first.
Memory hits you like a punch in the gut. John. He hadn’t killed you after all. What happened after you passed out?
The officers kindly explain you were assaulted and dumped, bloody and half-dead behind a motel along the highway. They ask if you remember anything. You tell them the wrong make and model of vehicle. You say you were unconscious the rest of the time. You don’t remember.
“Nothing at all?” You shake your head. They ask a few more questions, none of which you answer with anything useful. Once you’re alone again, you lift up the gown to inspect the stiches on your abdomen, gently tracing the wound along your ribs. You flinch when it stings and a small smile creeps across your face.

“we know that failing a test is bad news but refusing to take one is extremely unacceptable”. sister Agatha commented with her lips going into a thin line. you sat in the empty classroom with your eyes bulging out of their sockets.
“sister you have to understand that i took that test”. you try to explain.
“I’m sorry, our records show that you didn’t. And because of this I’m going to have to give you an F for your test grade”.
“an F? that’s going to bring my grade down to a C!”. you whine, you couldn’t help it, you always felt strongly about your grades even without your parents’ pressure. she raised her lips in that fine line again and shook her head with disappointment.
“I’m sorry but that’s school policy. Next time you have to make sure you’re doing your work and teacher is receiving it”. you huffed your breath in defeat, pulling your bag over your shoulder.
“alright”.
“you may go to your next period class. i’ll be sure to email your instructor about the reason for your tardiness”.
“thank you”. you mumble pushing the door open. I mean that was the least she could do after practically failing you. You knew you turned your quiz in you just knew it. but where did it go?
“let’s go guys! change into your clothes and immediately do three laps!”.
your gym instructor screeches while clapping his hands. you rush to the girl’s locker room to change into your gym clothes. you normally hated gym because it was a time where everyone socialized and gossiped with their friends as they ran laps. You never had anyone to do that with. People would stay away from you in fact, they thought you were way too much of a church girl to be interested in anything.
but to some extent you did. yes you were a church girl but you were also a teenager. gossip was intriguing just as it is for the next person. and you always didn’t mind opening yourself up to new things I mean, take you and soobin for example.
“yeah and he even bought us a hotel for the night”. you heard outside of your stall. you looked through it’s cracks to see Mia, Olivia, and the rest of the schools gossip girls. Olivia squealed. “no way!”. mia fake smiled. “I told you”. mia responded with the sassiest grin. One of the other girls which you knew to be Ava replied, “and what did you guys do?”. she smirks. Mia laughs as if there was too much to even explain. “We fucked like there was no tomorrow”. she said in a low whisper that had the rest of them go into an uproar.
you thought quickly to yourself, was she talking about soobin?
“I knew soobin was rich but i didn’t know he’d be booking hotels and shit”. olivia stated. “girl when i say filthy rich? the choi’s are loaded you must know that”. Mia responded. you felt your blood boiling. so they were talking about soobin.
“Girls! Out of the locker rooms and onto the track lets go”. the gym instructor yelled from the door. They quickly pack up and make their exit as do you when the coast is clear. you tie your hair up quickly and get to running. you were never the best athlete and you knew that but you always tried your hardest in gym class. especially since you’d already have to be spending your time trying to make up for the C you were about to receive.
“ugh look at that bitch”. mia scoffed glaring over at you while she was halfway around the track already. athlete of the year award goes to the track star mia howard. she already didn’t like you because of soobin but reminiscing on last night, she couldn’t help but to hate you even more. you probably put soobin up to setting her up. you were the mastermind because you wanted him just that much. and no one could make up Mia’s mind, saints weren’t always saints. especially you.
running past you she couldn’t pass up her opportunity to put her leg out while you weren’t paying attention, leaving you a stumbling mess as you tripped and landed straight on your face. she was the first one to laugh loudly with her friends to quickly follow. soon though, everyone in the gym was running past you and either giving you a sorrowful look or straight up laugh in your face. you didn’t know which to feel first, the pain that sprouted in your knees and face or the embarrassment of your entire gym class.
“hey guys enough! the next person to laugh at this poor girl is getting detention and i mean it!”. he rushes over to you while the class finishes their laps around the track. “Are you alright?”. you try your best to get up, your knee was practically throbbing and your face wasn’t calming down either. you shake your head no.
“I’m going to write you a pass to the nurse alright?”. he assures, grabbing a pen and quickly filling out the slip before handing it to you. you mutter a soft thank you as he helps you to your feet. luckily the nurse’s office was only down the hall so you wouldn’t be limping too far.
“grab him soobin hurry up!”.
Michael urged while they were in the bathroom. soobin grabbed ahold of the cowardly boys’ collar and threw him to the floor.
“you were the same guy talking shit about me on your ‘anonymous’ twitter account right?”.
the boy began squirming on the floor trying to escape soobin’s grip but fails horribly.
“no it wasn’t me i swear man!”.
michael reaches down and punches him in his jaw.
“don’t fucking lie i know a lot of people and they told me about you”.
he held his jaw in pain, blood leaking onto the disgusting floor that was inches from his face.
“don’t worry though. since they told me about you, I’d like to personally tell you about myself”. michael snarls while unzipping the front of his pants. Soobin holds his ankles so that he wasn’t able to go anywhere while michael pisses on his face. Soobin laughs at the boy squirming because of the stinging sensation. He thought it was funny how frantic he was about it. when michael was finished he kicks the boy in his stomach.
“i dare you to say some shit about me again”. he snarls again. soobin grins following him out of the bathroom door. “That kid is going to smell like piss all damn day”. soobin jokes and michael laughs. “That’s his fucking fault. no one told him to be such a pussy and talk shit on social media rather than my face”.
“so? how was she last night?”.  soobin asked smirking. “ridiculous. she did everything we told her to do. it was fucking amazing. best night of my life”. soobin shakes his head and laughs.
“hey soobin I dm’ed you on instagram, did you see it?”.
some random brunette girl walking passed them both had asked. and to be honest soobin never saw her before in his life. And he was barely on his socials unless drama was occurring.
“what makes you think I’d respond to anyone who looks like you?”. soobin counter, leaving michael to playfully push him in full fledge laughter. The girl frowns and continues her journey down the hall.
“hey man that was fucked up”.
“oh really? didn’t you just pee on someone?”.
michael was set to reply until he saw you turning into the nurses office down the hall.
“hey isn’t that the religious bitch you be talking to?”.
soobin met his gaze and saw you through the nurses’ office windows. oh shit. he thought.
“i’ll be right back”. michael was smirking hard but soobin was too focused to care.
“yeah right. I’ll catch you next period man”. and with that they both parted ways. the nurse advised you to sit down to keep you from putting so much pressure on your knee while she went to get you some knee wraps.
soobin knocks on her open door catching your attention easily. and yes, he had that stupid grin on his face. he slid into the chair beside you.
“what are you doing in here?”. he asks, was it scary that he looked genuinely concerned?
“I tripped and fell in gym class today. My knee hurts bad. And my face aches”.
Soobin reaches over and touches your knee re-sprouting your pain. you slap his hand.
“ouch soobin! why would you touch it?”. you wince. The nurse sashays her way back into the room and peers over her glasses at soobin.
“Excuse me Choi soobin? Do you have a reason for being here?”.
“Because I want to be here”. soobin snaps with attitude in his tone.
you nudge him.
“you don’t have to be rude about it soobin”. you mumble. he rolls his eyes.
“I meant-- i’m just making sure she’s okay. Im not going to be in the way. I’ll bring her back to class when she’s finished”.
“that was more like it”. she conceded before pulling a stool over to assist you. He wanted to tell her to go fuck herself, but he wouldn’t take it that far since you were around.
you wince as she lifts your skirt a bit more to wrap the bandage around your knee.
“what are you checking on me for anyways?”.
“because why not?”.
“because you tried to act like you didn’t like mia. I heard you guys had a good time last night”. soobin glanced at her with a confused expression.
“I took her out to eat. we didn’t do anything if that’s what you think”.
“that sure isn’t what she was telling her friends in the locker room today”.
soobin thought to himself, mia was a filthy liar.
“she’s lying. we didn’t do anything”.
you hum as the nurse finishes your bandage. you had to say when it was wrapped it felt way better, you thanked her gratefully. “there you go honey, and here”. she reaches back and grabs a small baggie with two tablet pills on the inside. “I recommend you take these for your face okay?”. “yes thank you”.  you stand to your feet. Your knee wasn’t totally healed but you could definitely walk better than you did before. Soobin just watches you limp your way to the hallway, he grins. “Are you sure you can walk the whole way?”.
“yes soobin I got it”. he gives you a head nod and walks beside you before he got tired of your limping. He stooped to your level and turned around. He pats his back. “come on, hop up”.
“soobin I got it”. he shakes his head. “no you don’t”. “yes I do”.
he turns around at you and sighs. “stop being a baby come on”. “I’m not being a baby”. “just let me carry you”. “why would I let you carry me when I have legs?’.
soobin playfully rolls his eyes before he wraps your arms around his neck himself and stands up. He curls your legs around his body. it made you feel like a child again, you haven’t had a piggy back ride since you were much younger.
“soobin i don’t know why you’re doing this”. you complain.
“Shh. doesn’t it feel much better?”. he asks turning his head to look back at you with that dumb grin again. You roll your eyes and laugh. he was such a doofus.
“you’re annoying”. you reply. He starts heading towards your calculus classroom.
“I’m annoying? you’re getting better with these compliments”. you playfully smack his head and he laughs of course like he always did.
“I mean at first I was a prissy little jerk but I’ll take annoying any day”. you hit his head again and laughs. You were finally there and he lands you carefully, making sure not to put any pressure on your knee. you swing your bag over your shoulder with an eyeroll, he folds his arms.
“thank you soobin”. you roll your eyes pretending to be annoyed.
“you’re welcome. work hard”. he calls out after you. And you did of course, still trying to account for the C that you were going to have. You weren’t the best math student but you were determined and that’s what really mattered. Having courage in the face of hardship always made you feel good about yourself.
but you know what else made you feel good for some odd reason?
soobin waiting by the door for you at dismissal. It was weird, you just walked out of the room and he was just standing there like a valet or something.
“can I help you?”. you inquired raising an eyebrow. he gives you a side smile before squatting down again, patting his back.
“soobin I can walk I swear”. he sighs again before taking things upon himself and putting you on his back anyways. secretly you were kind of grateful though. the hallways were always hectic during this time and it was kind of interesting seeing things from this height.
he cut through the crowd easily and went into the school parking lot heading towards his car. “where are you going?”. you ask only to get no response. He opens his passenger seat door and positions you there before closing the door behind you and sliding into the driver’s seat.
“tell your mom you’re signing up for a club or something”. he suggests and sticks his key in the ignition.
“why?”.
“because you’re not going home right now”.
“why not?”. you coax again. And soobin is just silently driving like you weren’t speaking to him. He was being a jerk so you slapped him on his wrists.
“why not soobin?”.
“hey hey calm down. i’m going to take you somewhere”.
he gives you a few glances noticing your mood wasn’t exactly up to par.
“what’s the matter? why are you upset?”.
you fold your arms watching the scenery that sped past your car window. Soobin laughs.
“so now you’re going to ignore me?”.
you finally breathe, “I’m not ignoring you soobin”.
“then what’s the matter? you can tell me”. you take a glimpse at him and give up trying to hold it in.
“I’m just... stressed because sister agatha is saying that I didn’t turn in my history exam when yesterday I literally worked so hard on it and turned it in I just--and then she didn’t even feel sorry that she was about to give me an F. She was just going to give it not even caring that my grade will drop. My parents will kill me if I have a grade lower than a B. And then I fell in gym class today and my knee hurts and i got embarrassed by the whole class. literally everyone laughed at me. the only person who tried to help me up was our instructor. It was so humiliating soobin”.
“damn. that’s a pretty stressful day”.
“well you wouldn’t know. it’s not like you care about your grades and everyone in the school either loves you or is scared of you so they’d never laugh at you for anything embarrassing so I don’t know why I’m expecting you to understand”.
“none of that means that I’m not sorry that those things happened to you today”.
“i’m not some charity case soobin you don’t have to feel sorry for me”.
soobin listened and nodded. you seemed pretty upset about your day so he didn’t want to bother you any further. he parked his car next to a place that was shaped sort of like a barn. you had no idea where you were, you just had soobin opening the passenger seat door for you convincing you to take another piggy back ride.
“soobin, I can walk”. you attempted to step a foot out the car but soobin grabs it instead and squats down, bringing your arms around his neck again and your legs around his body. venting to soobin made you realize what a messed up day you had so you were too upset to fight back. he carries you to the front of the building and you noticed it happened to be a parlor built into the shape of a barn.
“what kind of ice cream do you want?”. soobin questions trying to get a good glance at the menu from his position in line.
“soobin you don’t have to do this. it’s fine”.
“i’ll just order you something to try”. he assures before it’s his turn in line. He orders strawberry ice cream for himself and rocky road ice cream for you. The guy hands him two waffle cones with spoons stuck in both. soobin decides to make good use of the colorful benches outside. Plus it was too beautiful and sunny of a day for the both of you to sit in his car. He parks you on the bench before he sits down himself. He slides you on his lap, making sure your legs were propped up properly with his knee. With his ice cream in one hand and yours in the other he takes a spoonful of your ice cream.
“here comes the plane! wooooshh!”. soobin baby talks and flies it near your mouth. you sat with folded arms trying your hardest not to smile.
“soobin I’m not that injured”. soobin stares at you before he goes into the biggest smile as if you told him the greatest news ever. he pushes air through his teeth trying to mock the sound of a plane engine. he jiggles the spoon lightly to make it seem as though the plane was patiently waiting.
“say ah”.he coos like you were six months old. you roll your eyes opening your mouth so he could he stop being so cute. The ice cream was creamy and the chocolate was rich. The nuts and marsh mellows inside of it made it even tastier. you hum in satisfaction.
“is it good?”. he asks while taking a napkin and wiping the corners of your mouth. “I’ve never had rocky road before”. he comments again before licking his own ice cream. You watched his hair tousle over in the breeze. His doughy cheeks and eyes always looked cuter up close.
“so you didn’t take me home because you wanted to eat ice cream?”. you say, while soobin prepares to feed you again. you let him because in all honesty, it was the cutest watching him do it.
“yeah”.
“but why?”.
“choo choo!!”. soobin whistles and drives the spoon in your mouth again. You laughed because it actually looked like he was having fun making the noises.
“why? because your knee hurts and you’re having a bad day today”. you make a confused expression to which soobin replied,
“is it bad?’
“I’m wondering why you’re not being a prissy little jerk”. soobin licks the ice cream off his top lip.
“hey today you called me annoying. you’ve upgraded me so i’ll no longer be responding to prissy little jerk anymore”. the both of you laugh in unison. he starts to rub your knee. which reminded you,
“hey how’s your back?”.
soobin shrugs and preps your spoon again.
“It’s still sore I guess but it’s alright. I’m not used to getting beat but I’m used to the wounds”.
“you’re not used to it?”.
“well no because that shit hurts. it always does. It’s like 15 whips going across your back at once”.
“how come you’ve never told anyone?”.
“my parents are one of the richest people in this stupid ass town. they fund everything here. try telling everyone that the two people the town loves the most is abusing their son. they will all just call me spoiled and then my parents would beat me to death probably”. you wince at the image.
“ouch”.
“yeah, ouch”. he makes a small beeping noise while landing the spoon in your mouth again.
“but what about your parents? they seem way nicer than mine”.
“really? how so?”.
“well for starters they’re home waiting for you right now”.
“well i guess in that aspect but they’re just as religious and strict as yours. only thing is we don’t have one billion dollars to our name or something”.
“i’d rather take that route”.
“huh?”.
“yeah. having people around that constantly shows you love; I think I’d give up most of the things I own for that”.
“is that why you’re such a menace? because you want love?”.
soobin stays silent and eats the rest of the ice cream off his spoon. he could’ve been silent all he wanted, but you knew the answer to that question. you rested your hand at the top of his head and lifted it so that his eyes were now on yours. Like you always predicted the stare was far more intense this time around. his brown eyes always comfortably made themselves at home in yours. And it was never an unwanted visit, you gladly accepted them each time, which made the stay better.
you couldn’t feel his heart rate but you knew it was synchronizing with yours. you were more in tune with him this way than any other way. and slowly but surely you landed one right on his strawberry ice cream flavored lips. it made them much sweeter and tastier which resulted in swiping over his lips with your tongue as you kissed him. He was quite surprised to see your growth. you pulled away though, not wanting it to lead any further with your knee being hazardous.
“thank you for kissing me”. soobin addresses.
and you had no idea what it meant. of course he was saying thank you. but why?

-----------
Your entire body was cold.  Not just cold.  Freezing.  Aching and unable to move without feeling like your bones might snap.
You didn’t know how long you’d been sitting here.  one moment you’d been in your car driving up to a motel that you’d planned to wait out the blizzard at, and the next moment you were sitting in a large plush red chair that had a backrest so tall that you couldn't even lift your head up far enough to see where it stopped.  And you were freezing your ass off.
Looking around the room it seemed like the typical lobby of a hotel, a few cheap chairs and couches scattered about, except the lights were turned off, and all the brochures lining the front of the lobby’s front desk looked as if they hadn’t been updated since the 80’s.  A thin layer of dust sat on all of the surfaces, except for a few marks on the table in front of you that looked like the ring of a coffee mug had been sitting there.
It was eerie and quiet, and you couldn’t help but find yourself shivering for a number of reasons.
You went to stand up and then realized you really were unable to move.
Your wrists, elbows and ankles were all tied tightly to the chair that you were sitting in.
You realized this is probably where you should scream.  But, you couldn’t quite get anything to come out.  Unable to even comprehend the situation you were in.
The ring on the table in front of you had you worrying about the return of that cup's owner.
A loud involuntary whimper left your throat.
“Hello?” A voice that seemed to speak almost in your ear suddenly sounded out.
If you hadn’t been tied to the chair you might’ve jumped right out of it, your entire body now feeling numb.
“Is someone there?” The voice spoke again.  It was so close.
Your head was spinning every direction it could trying to find the voice.  But you couldn’t.
It had to have been coming from the only direction you couldn’t turn.
From behind you.
“W-who are you?” Your feeble voice was able to make out. “Whats happening?”
Silence for a while.
“Who am I? What kind of joke is that?” The voice returned venomously.  It seemed to be a man's voice.  It didn’t seem particularly menacing, but in the current situation your mind was spinning imaginative theories on the owner of that voice.
“I’m sorry?” You managed to reply.  “Please just let me go.” You whimpered, tears pooling up in your eyes.
The owner of the voice was laughing now.  Still coming from right in your ear.  It hadn’t seemed to have moved any further or closer since he’d spoken before.
“Me? Let you go?” Now the voice was completely laced with disgust.
“Please.” You begged.
“Okay fine I’ll play along.” The voice replied.
‘Play along’?
“What are you talking about?” You sobbed. You were growing increasingly frustrated alongside your fear.
“Yeah.  If this is some sort of sick game you’re playing, I don’t get it.  But I just wanna get back to my family.” The voice growled.
“Wait…” Realization hitting you. “You’re not the person holding me here are you?” You whispered.
“What?” The voice snapped. “Of course I’m not.  I can’t do anything with how you’ve got me tied up to this fucking chair.”
All of the sudden you felt a hard thud against your back.
“Wait!” You snapped at him. “You’re tied up too.  Just like me.  I-I cant see you.  I think our chairs must be back to back...” You seemed to be understanding as you were saying the words.
“Oh…” The voice replied. “Shit.  Yeah...sorry.  I just figured…” He trailed off.
“It's fine.  I did too.” you sighed.
“So you haven’t seen them? The person...or people.  Whoever did this?” He asked.
You sighed and shook your head. “No.  Last thing I remember is walking in the front doors and that was it.”
That really had been it.  It seemed strange but all you had done was open the door and walk inside.
“Me too.” The voice replied.  “Taehyung by the way.  Thats my name.  If we’re gonna die here you might as well know that.”
You gasped. “Don’t say that.”
It was a possibility.  Probably the biggest possibility here.
Yet, you didn’t need to spin yourself into a flurry of overthinking.  You needed to think of how to get out, how to survive.
It was quiet for a while.
“Sorry.” Taehyung replied.
“It's okay…” You muttered. “I-I’m y/n.”
“That's a pretty name.” Taehyung sweetly complimented, seeming to find some satisfaction in thinking on your name instead of the terrifying predicament you both were in.
“Thanks.” You muttered again.  It wasn’t easy to find the strength to push words out.
Hours seemed to tick by as you and Taehyung remained frozen to the chairs.
You talked occasionally.  You learned that he was a science teacher at a middle school in Korea.  He didn’t particularly think he was good at it.  But he enjoyed it.
He’d been vacationing in Alaska this winter because he’d heard it was a once in a lifetime experience.  When he’d gotten caught in that blizzard he pulled over to this motel.  And here you both were
He joked around with you quite a bit when he did speak.  He seemed to want to take the damper off the mood.
But there was no amount of joking that could truly distract the two of you from your fear.
Another hour passed.
“So tell me about you.  I feel like I've only talked about me.” Spoke the voice.
You laughed, realizing he was right.  He’d been rambling on and on and you hadn’t told him more than your name.
“Well…” You paused.
That was strange.  You could’ve sworn…
You had them.
They were there when you woke weren’t they?
Your memories.
Didn’t they exist?
“Well what?” The man joked.
You tried your hardest to remember.  So hard it almost hurt.
God. the ropes on your hands were really starting to burn.
You looked down to see if they had somehow tightened...only to realize that…
There were no ropes.
No.  That couldn’t be true.  You were definitely tied to the chair when you first woke up.
“One...one second” Your voice was sounding deeper than it once had.  You couldn’t pin this down.  You’d been on vacation.  The sights were beautiful but a storm hit and you pulled over at this motel.  There were no other cars.  It was only you.  It was only him.
“Are you okay?” Taehyung's voice started to sound panicked. “You sound...like…”
Finally.  It was as if the key to your mind was unlocked and all of the answers you needed were flooding out.
“I sound like…”
Taehyung gasped loudly.  His entire body tensing in fear.
“You?” you chuckled, standing up and walking over to the single red chair that sat in the middle of the room.
Walking around to meet face to face with the man sitting there.
His face was contorted in pure shock and horror as he looked you up and down.
How could it be possible...that you looked entirely identical to him, your voice was the same.
“And now I even have your memories as well.” You chuckled. “You know? That’s always the nastiest bit of finding a new host.” You groaned, dropping your jaw in an inhuman way to reveal hundreds of razor sharp teeth. All that was left was to take care of the old body.
You chuckled at Taehyung's squirming in his chair.  Betrayal and fear mixing into what you found to be quite an amusing ending to your little game.
His mind really had taken the longest of all of your prey to feed on.
When he’d walked through that front door he was walking right into your lair.
You were able to plant a seed in his mind like a small parasite buried in his brain to eat away at everything making him...him.  Until he was almost nothing.
You really hated the part where it messed with your own mind.
You let out a loud cackle at that thought.
“I almost lost myself there for a second.”
