the idea that teachers would make new transfer students stand up and like introduce themselves or whatever is soo fake bc i had a friend who transfered mid semester into my school and specifically one of my classes and not only did the teacher not force her to introduce herself but i didnt even know she transferred at all for like a good couple months of our friendship
#i also didnt know her name bc she kind of just appeared#but i wasnt the most observant in high school mostly bc i didnt care#and i was kind of dragged into a well established friend group so i was just like yeah ok i guess we're friends#i was too embarrassed to ask what her name was#tbh at this point i couldnt tell you if anyone actually told me her name like explicitly#her name was mentioned many times in front of me of course but like. i need to consciously be aware to remember something#and a name drop in the middle of a group convo is not a time my for my brain to get out of autopilot mode#i mean i also dont remmebe much of high school either#hilariously enough the most i remember abt highschool is incidents ive had with teachers#shout out to my one teacher that gave me a zero in a lab report bc i 'plagiarized' it#cuz no eleventh grader can write that advanced#and i was like ive literally written like that all my life you can literally check my essays for english class#why would i plagiarize this#and then when she was like fine ill believe you for now (bitch??) and gave me a B on it anyways#i hated her#ohhh and my chem teacher#she was so rancid i hated her so much#ooh who else did i hate......MY SPANISH TEACHER#i will never forgive her for giving me a D in spanish. bitch im a native speaker#and then had the audacity to ask me why i wasnt aware of homework and i was like cuz you never post it online AND im not the only one who fo#forgets why arent you bitching at everyone else#i swear i hated someone else who was it........#i had a geudge against the new peincipal and his horrendous graduation plans but it ended up not mattering anyways cuz of covid#drivethru graduation lmao ✌️#michi tag#not to talk abt highschool again LMAO

you ain’t my boyfriend and I ain’t your girlfriend but you don’t want me to see nobody else and I don’t want you to see nobody…

Tumblr media
He’s not your boyfriend. You’re not his girlfriend. But the thought of someone else touching you angers him. The thought of another female even looking at him throws you into a spiral.
Yet there’s nothing either of you can do about it. You two aren’t together after all.
You lean against the wall twirling the red solo cup in your hand, glancing around the room at the sea of drunk college kids. Watching as they play party games and sing so off-key to the music blasting out of the speakers.
You take a sip from your drink, debating whether or not to leave right after this cup was empty. Parties weren’t really your thing after all. You only come with your best friend, who ended up ditching you the moment you walked in the door.
You finished the drink, turning to leave when someone bumps into you.
“There you were babe!” he wraps his arm around your shoulders, planting a kiss on your forehead, “been looking everywhere for you.”
You sign, knowing now that you’re trapped.
“Come on, babe don’t look so disappointed to see me.”
“I was fixing to leave, Soobin.” you scoffed, finally breaking free from his arms.
His dimple smile melts your heart, sending tingles down your spine, “I noticed you seemed like you wanted to leave,” he said looking down at your empty cup, “but the guy standing by the window was giving you a look and decided to step in to protect you.”
You raised your brow at him, “Protect me? Soobin?”
He nodded, “Of course. Mans looks like a whole dick and a half.”
You chuckle, dropping your head into your palm, “Probably because he HAS a dick, Choi Soobin.”
Soobin tucks his bottom lip between his teeth. He wants to shout at you his feelings so you could finally understand why he’s so protective over you.
Soobin grabs your empty cup and sets it against the counter then places his hands on your shoulders, softly pressing you against the wall.
You look up at him, seeing the want in his eyes. Your whole body heats up.
“Just spend some extra time with me, ya? Before you decide to head out?” He whispered.
How quickly you nodded your head in agreement should scare you, you didn’t want him to know how badly you wanted him. He’s not your boyfriend, after all.
Soobin smirks, sliding his hands down to your hands. Pulling you away from the wall and leading you up the stairs in this dance you’ve both done many times before.
It started out like this.
Two lonely people at a party were ditched by their friends and had nothing else better to do than each other.
You knew who he was. He sat two rows behind you in class. He was quiet, and only spoke to his friends he had in class. Was five minutes early every day and for the most part kept to himself unless spoken to by the professor or another classmate.
It surprised you when he first walked into the party. Barely even recognized him. He went from this innocent boy who hid his face with his hair, wearing sweatpants and a hoodie to class, into this sexy man in tight light blue skinny jeans with holes in them, Nike air forces, and a long sleeve black shirt with his hair parted.
If you didn’t know him from before, you would assume he was one of the popular party boys all the girls drool over.
And damn, he was catching looks from the girls at the party.
Your best friend looped her arm with yours, “Earth to Y/N!! Did you hear me?”
You snapped your eyes away from Choi Soobin, giving your best friend your full attention, “I’m sorry I was daydreaming, what did you say?”
She side-eyes the area you were just staring at, “were you looking at Soobin?”
You blink at her, “You know him? And calling him by his first name?”
She smiles brightly, “Yep! we have chem lab together and I’m SOOOO into one of his friends.”
You nodded at her, “I should’ve known,” You looked back over in Soobin’s direction, noticing his dog pack behind him, “which one are you here for?” you asked her.
She giggles and squeezes your arm tighter, “Taehyun! We met at the campus coffee shop and totally hit it off right away!”
You nodded again, “I’m sure you did.”
“We did! And he told me about this party tonight.”
“Is that why you canceled our stay indoors and watch horror movies best friend date and dragged me to this party instead? To hook up with Kang Taehyun?” you raised a brow at her.
“When you put it that way you make me seem like a bad guy,” she pouted at you, “plus he told me his friends would be coming with him, sooooo I figured you could ya know.” she nudged your arm.
You scoff at her, “Nope! absolutely not. I’m going home!”
“Y/N! Please, you need to get out there!”
Before you could protest, Soobin and his four friends were right beside you guys.
“Wow you made it Hanna,” Taehyun says basically stealing my best friend from me, “who’s this?” he asked giving me a small smile.
“I’m Y/N, nice to meet you.”
Taehyung nodded, “Nice to put a face to the name. Hanna talks about you all the time.”
You glance over at her. She gives you her normal apologetic smile.
“Anyways how rude, these are my best friends, Choi Yeonjun, Huening kai, Choi Beomgyu and that’s—“
“Choi Soobin.” you said, giving all five of them a small smile.
The boys all looked at Soobin, waiting for an explanation.
“W-we have a class together.” Soobin says, shoving his hands into his pockets.
After that awkward conversation, you slowly walked away to grab yourself a drink, because god knows you need it now.
“Grab me a drink too please!” Hanna calls after you.
When you returned to the same spot the six of them were, only Soobin remained.
You shook your head, “where did they go?”
He shrugged his shoulders, “Your guess is as good as mine.” He folded his arms against his chest and leaned against the wall.
You stood beside him, “well you can have this I guess.” you said, handing him the cup.
“I didn’t picture you as a partygoer, Y/N.” Soobin softly smiles while taking a sip of the drink.
“You neither, you completely look different than you do in class.”
He chuckles, “Yeah I don’t really try for college. No need to impress anyone. Go in, get your education, get out, and go back home.”
“Then why are you here tonight?” you asked.
He glances at you, “Everyone else was coming, and Yeonjun Hyung basically pulled me by my ear out of the dorm.”
You nodded with a sigh, “Hanna basically did the same to me.”
“Guess we’re in this together then.” Soobin held out his cup towards you in a way of cheers.
You mimicked the action, then you both chugged down the drinks.
You don’t remember much of the conversations after that. Just that you both continued to drink and drink.
“Okay okay, truth time.” Soobin drunkenly giggles.
“What is this? Truth or dare? Are we five?” you giggle back at him.
“Never too old for it,” he defends, “anyways truth.”
“Okay, I’m listening.” You smile, taking another sip of your drink.
Soobin tucks his lip between his teeth, glancing across the room, “Have you met Yeonjun hyung before?”
Your smile drops, “Choi Yeonjun? I mean we have a couple of other classes together and I pass him in the halls sometimes,” you look in the same direction as Soobin, noticing Yeonjun is looking back, “why? Is something wrong?”
Soobin sighs and looks back at you, “I am very observant and noticed the moment we walked in and he looked at you that…well.”
You look into Soobin’s eyes, “are you implying he’s interested in me?”
Soobin shrugged, “he could be. Either that or like I asked if the two of you knew each other beforehand. But he’s been looking at you the entire night.”
You laughed, “Soobin, you’re acting jealous right now.”
He rolls his eyes, “I barely know you, how could I be jealous?” he shakes his head chuckling, “I just know hyung, and wanted to just give ya a heads up is all.”
You tilted your head, “That’s really sweet, but you’re not my boyfriend so you don’t need to look after me like that.”
Soobin rolled his eyes again, “noted.”
“How about you then? Hmm?”
He takes a sip, “What about me?”
“With how you walked in here you must have girls begging for your attention. Do you dress like this outside of school too?”
He nodded, “I do. That doesn’t mean girls are making passes at me.”
You glanced around the room and noticed at least two girls blushing over him.
“There are two girls right over there who would love your attention right now.”
Soobin looks in the direction you pointed at, then shook his head, then looked back at you, “Not interested.”
“What? Are you nervous or something?” you teased him.
He gives you a confused look, “what would I have to be nervous about?”
“I dunno, maybe you’ve never hooked up with a girl at a party before.” you continued to tease him.
Soobin raised his brow at you, “You’re making these assumptions as if you know me personally.”
“Well truth time then, have you ever hooked up with someone before?”
Soobin’s face turned a shade of pink, looking away from you he answered, “I have.”
You slapped your hands on your cheeks, “Omg really!? the shy Choi Soobin from class actually pulled girls!?”
He glances at you, “Of course I have. you act like sex is such an uncommon thing for shy people like me.” He finished his cup and tossed it onto the counter, then made direct eye contact with you, “do you not believe me?”
You shook your head, “Nope.”
Soobin smirked, chewing on his bottom lips.
You could see the gears in his head turning, “what are you thinking about?”
“I could prove it to you.”
You weren’t expecting his response. Your whole body started to tingle, “prove it to me?” you nervously giggled, looking away from him.
You weren’t expecting the next turn of events to happen either, Soobin had you against the wall, one hand above your head, the other was on your hip, and his body was pressed against yours.
“I didn’t stutter.” he whispered, connecting his forehead against yours.
You stared up at him, “where did this confidence come from?” you whispered back.
“Always been here, I just don’t show it.”
You could feel the heat radiating from his body. Your knees started to feel weak and your hands trembled at your sides.
Soobin pressed himself even closer to you, his arm completely wrapping around behind your back, “I’ve honestly been wanting to hook up with you since the moment I met you in class.”
You bit your lip, his confession turned you on more than you wanted to attempt to yourself. It was so hot seeing this once-shy boy you normally see in class act this sexy. Was it the alcohol? or is he really this confident? Either way, it was killing you.
“Are you going to kiss me or continue to just look at me?” you asked, testing your own confidence.
His lips connected with yours, the taste of cherry and alcohol filled your senses from his chapstick and the drink he just finished. You had a better smell of his cologne and oh man it was sending you into a frenzy.
You were melting against his touch with the way his hands were on your body. His tongue sent chills down your spine every time it brushed against your own.
You didn’t care that you two were making out in the middle of the kitchen at some random party with many people around.
All you cared about was him.
He led you up the stairs and into an empty room, quickly closing and locking the door behind him.
His hands and lips were back on you in an instant as if those short couple minutes were too long.
He pulled his shirt over his head, his body leaving you even more breathless.
You tossed your tank top over your head and somewhere in the room.
His body was back against yours, the skin-to-skin contact made your head spin.
Soobin played with the button of your jeans, silently asking for permission.
You let him, your hands going to the button of his jeans immediately after.
It’s been so long since you’ve been naked in front of someone and you figured the first time having sex again would make you nervous and hide like a child, but it was different with Soobin. He brought out this confidence in you that you never knew you had. The rest of your clothes came off quickly, and the same did his.
You could have sworn Soobin’s body was crafted by the gods. He’s so beautiful.
His hands cupped your breasts, his thumbs slowly gliding over your nipples. You moaned against his mouth.
He sat down on the edge of the bed, pulling you to straddle him.
Soobin looked you up and down, “You’re so beautiful, every inch of you.” his hands squeezed your hips.
Your fingers played in his hair, “is this something you want?” you asked.
Soobin tucks his lip between his teeth, slowly nodding, positioning his member for you, “I will literally lose it if you don’t slide down onto me right now.” he whispered.
Sex with Soobin was pure bliss. You felt that bliss with every inch of your body as you rode him. His lips and hands never left your body and your hands never left his hair until you both finished.
You two returned to the party like nothing ever happened. The two girls who were drooling over Soobin earlier seemed to only be even more interested in him now that sex was literally written all over his face.
You scoff, “Those two still want you.”
Soobin wrapped his arm around your waist, “Hmm jealous are we?”
You chuckled, “Of course not. You’re not my boyfriend.”
Soobin laughed with you, “And you’re not my girlfriend.”
It’s been almost a year since then.
You and Soobin have had sex multiple times since then, and he still made you lose your breath every single time.
The two of you grew to even become friends in a way. Or even best friends some would say. The two of you started hanging out outside of the classroom and at parties. He got to know you so well and the same with you towards him. He became someone you didn’t want to have a life without.
But the feelings you started to build up for him over that year were growing too strong for you to contain.
Little did you know the feeling was mutual for Soobin.
He hated it when he knew you were going to parties or anywhere alone. He hated the thought of another man putting his hands on you. The thought of another man kissing you, touching you, making you feel the way only he wants you to feel. And the thought of you dating another man…
Soobin understood how your relationship was: two classmates that had sex and turned into friends who have sex. That’s all it was supposed to be until the night he realized he had feelings and realized he hated any man that looked in your direction.
You also secretly felt that way about any woman who looked at Soobin.
The two of you had this secret unspoken thing that you both didn’t want the other to see anyone else. You both just didn’t know it.
Soobin was running late and was never late. It wasn’t him to be late.
Tonight’s party was being held on campus for the school winning some kinda sports event. Soobin walked into the courtyard, immediately being met by Huening Kai and Beomgyu.
“you’re late!” Kai said looking at his watch.
“Yeah yeah I know,” Soobin sighed, “where are Taehyun and Yeonjun?”
“Taehyun is with Hanna…” Beomgyu shrugged.
“Should have known, and Yeonjun?” Soobin asked.
Kai and Beomgyu went quiet.
Soobin looked between the both of them, confusion showing on his face.
“Where is Yeonjun?” Soobin asked again.
“He’s well…he’s with someone.” Kai said, trying to smile.
“Okay…?” Soobin raised a brow.
“He’s with—“ Beomgyu started, but Kai quickly covered his mouth.
“He’s not with anyone! hahaha.” Kai nervously laughed.
Soobin continued to look between his juniors, still confused about what was even going on between the two of them.
Until it clicked in his head.
Soobin quickly moved past them, “where is he?”
“Soobin Hyung, wait!” They called out for him.
Soobin knew Yeonjun secretly had a thing for you, it was written all over his face from the beginning.
Soobin made his way inside the campus and asked people left and right if they’d seen both of you, none knew until someone pointed him in the direction of the gymnasium where they were handing out food, punch, and alcohol.
He found the both of you standing on the far side of the gym. Yeonjun was standing too close to you for his liking.
Soobin quickly walked up, wrapping his arm around Yeonjun, “There you guys are! I was looking for you!”
“You’re late!” You said checking the time on your phone, “Yeonjun and I almost started drinking without you. Where’s everyone else?”
Soobin shrugged his shoulders, “Huening Kai and Beomgyu were in the courtyard. Apparently Taehyun—“
“Is with Hanna, of course.” you sigh, “I’m happy for them so I’ll let it slide.” You started to walk away, “I’m going to the courtyard and I’ll call Hanna to meet us there.”
Soobin nodded, “grab me a drink on the way out okay?” he asked you.
You gave him a thumbs up, walking away. You could tell something was bothering Soobin but didn’t want to press the conversation in front of Yeonjun.
Once you were out of the gym, Soobin let go of Yeonjun facing him.
“What is that look for?” Yeonjun asked.
“It’s nothing. Ready to meet with the others?” Soobin asked, starting to walk away.
“Hey, is Y/N talking to anyone by chance?” Yeonjun asked.
Soobin stops walking, “Uhh not that I know of…why?”
“Because I’m interested in her. She’s your best friend besides me of course, and I think she’s funny and I want to get to know her a little more than I already do.”
Soobin looked at his hyung, trying everything in him to not shout at him to leave you alone. But he knows he can’t. He’s not your boyfriend.
“Soobin say something,” Yeonjun said, crossing his arms over his chest.
“I uhh…I can ask if she’s talking to someone.”
“That’s now why I meant.” Yeonjun tried to make eye contact with Soobin, wanting him to tell the truth.
“What do you mean then?”
Yeonjun sighs, “What I’m trying to say is, if you’re not going to make a pass at her, I’m going to.”
Soobin’s heart dropped, and his body filled up with heat, it took everything in him to say what he did next, “I’m not her boyfriend, do whatever you want.”
Yeonjun rolled his eyes, “I can’t man!” Soobin looked at his hyung confused, “You’re having sex with her and it’s so obvious that the two of you are pining for each other and just won’t say anything. I’m tired of hearing the “She’s not my girlfriend, I’m not her boyfriend” bullshit. I would feel terrible if I went after Y/N, knowing you damn well want her for yourself.”
Soobin looked away, “We made it clear to each other the first time we hooked up that we weren’t together, it was all about the sex and that’s it.”
“Yeah, and it’s been a year since then man,” Yeonjun walked closer to Soobin, putting his hands on his friends’ shoulders, “I can see it in the way you look at her dude, it’s not just about the sex anymore and with the way you dart across the room when another man looks at her? or how when she notices any other girl looks at you? have you not noticed how jealous she gets? how will she stand closer to you?”
Soobin shook his head, “She doesn’t want me in that way.”
Yeonjun nodded, “I still think you need to tell her, and I’m giving you until tomorrow night to say something, or else I’ll try and make a pass to her.”
Yeonjun patted his back and then finally walked away.
Soobin knew he was right, it’s time to say something.
You stood outside their dorm building, the summer breeze felt warm against your skin.
You checked the time on your phone, Soobin said to meet him here before returning back to the party but he’s once again running late. This isn’t like him.
You finally catch Soobin walking over towards you but with another girl hooked up on his arm.
Jealousy filled you. You looked away, shoving your hands into your jeans pockets, trying to shove down the feeling. “he’s not your boyfriend…Y/N…” You repeated the words in your head over and over again. You don’t have a right to be jealous. You’re not his girlfriend.
“Soobinnie!” oh god you wanted to throw up, “my dorm is across the street there!”
You glanced over at them, this girl was drunk and clearly trying to get Soobin in her bed.
Soobin looked at you, and you quickly looked away.
“Can you make it back there on your own?” He asked.
You rolled your eyes. You knew how good Soobin was in bed, it shouldn’t surprise you he probably has been in other beds besides yours.
“I may need some help…” you wanted to barf.
“Hey,” you shouted, “you clearly aren’t drunk enough to try and get him in your room so you can obviously walk up there alone, okay?”
Soobin’s eyes widen, he’s never seen you act like that before.
“Is that your girlfriend or something?” the girl asked, “I knew you were too gorgeous to be single.”
“He’s single all right,” you mumbled to yourself.
Soobin sighed, “I can’t go any further with you, I apologize.”
The girl scoffs but eventually walks away.
“What was with that attitude?” Soobin asked, giving you a sassy look.
“She clearly was trying way too hard.” you softly snap, “it was way too obvious.”
“Are you jealous?” Soobin teased, standing in front of you.
You rolled your eyes, “no reason to be jealous, you’re not my—“
“Boyfriend, I know,” he said. You looked up at him and noticed the hurt in your eyes, “but maybe I should be.”
“Wait, what?” you asked.
Soobin looked away, “I want to be your boyfriend, Y/N. It’s not just about the sex anymore, I want all of you. My heart can’t take it anymore. If I see one more man try to make a pass at you, I’m going to lose it.”
“Soobin…” you softly said his name.
“God, I love the way you say my name…but I already know your response to this, that our relationship is strictly sex. We made that agreement a year ago and—“
“Soobin shut up and kiss me right now.”
He looks deeply into your eyes and all you can see is the spark that lights up his entire being.
His hands are on the sides of your face in an instant and his lips connected to yours.
You’ve kissed him millions of times, but never like this. The last kisses have always been filled with lust, want, desire, temptation, and need. But this one was filled with…well, love.
It was filled with so much love.
“I’m in love with you, Soobin.” you whispered in between kisses, “and if one more damn woman looks at you with the desire that I have for you, I’ll commit murder.”
He giggles against your lips, “You’re so cute when you’re jealous.”
“As your girlfriend, I have a right to be.”
“And as your boyfriend, I’ll allow you to be.”
You smiled against his lips, “I love you.”
“I’ve loved you since the moment you let me lead you up those stairs, my heart has been yours since the beginning.”

you ain't my boyfriend and I ain't your girlfriend but you don't want me to see nobody else and I don't want you to see nobody...

You're not my boyfriend.”
“Because I'm interested in her.
Yeonjun sighs, “What I'm trying to say is, if you’re not going to make a pass at her, I'm going to.”
“Yeah, and it’s been a year since then man,” Yeonjun walked closer to Soobin, putting his hands on his friends' shoulders, “I can see it in the way you look at her dude, it’s not just about the sex anymore and with the way you dart across the room when another man looks at her? or how when she notices any other girl looks at you? have you not noticed how jealous she gets? how will she stand closer to you?”
“He's single all right,” you mumbled to yourself.
If I see one more man try to make a pass at you, I'm going to lose it.”

HEART'S DESIRE - CHAPTER 22
Tumblr media
*Warning: Adult Content*
As the patrol car parks alongside Jake Nash's ranger truck, Alpha Dane Hunter gets to his feet.
Freya and Montreal Hunter rise as well, while Julian Hart, Kit Montaine, Martin and Sasha Hunter remain at the table and reassures the children.
"What's this about, then?" Monty murmurs to Dane, as two officers emerge from the vehicle and walk towards them, picking their way through the tall grass.
There's a perfectly good path a few yards to their right but it seems they prefer the direct route.
"Dunno," Dane mutters.
"But it must be important. That's Sheriff Page herself."
As the officers draw near, Monty sees one is a young man, mid-twenties, probably, with his hair shaved in a military style and a swagger that speaks more of bluster and bravado than genuine experience.
The other is a woman in her late forties or early fifties, with iron-gray hair and sharp blue eyes in a sun-weathered face.
Dressed in a red flannel shirt, sheriff's jacket, jeans and ankle-high work boots, she carries herself with a natural authority that makes her seem larger than she is.
"Mr. Hunter, Ms. Hunter," she calls once she's close enough not to have to shout and directs her attention to Freya and Dane.
She has a low, scratchy, smoker's voice, the masculine tones of which probably come in handy when giving orders to hotheaded assholes like her young deputy.
"And another Hunter, I presume," she adds, looking towards Monty.
Dane nods.
"My brother, Monty."
"Jackie Page," the sheriff says, introducing herself.
"And this is Deputy Lawson. We apologize for dropping by so late. Looks like we've interrupted your meal."
"What can we do for you, Sheriff?" Dane asks, cutting to the chase.
He hates unnecessary pleasantries. Sheriff Page stands with her feet slightly apart but keeps her arms uncrossed, thumbs hooked in her belt, authoritative but nonthreatening.
"Well, I got good news and I got bad news, Mr. Hunter. Some of which needs to be delivered in person."
A cold feeling clutches at Monty’s stomach, like icy fingers gripping my guts and he braces himself for a devastating blow.
"Good news is the chemical analysis you requested came back from the lab already," the sheriff continues.
"Seems you got friends in high places, Hunter."
"The right places, maybe," Dane says, straightening with interest.
"What did they find?""Well, that's where the bad news comes in. I don't understand all the technical, chemical mumbo-jumbo, but the bottom line is you were right, and I was wrong. That fire was no accident."
"Accelerants?" Freya asks.
"Yep, hydrocarbons and lots of 'em."
"Hydrocarbons are present in most flammable liquids," Dane points out.
"Did they pinpoint any specific signatures?"
"I'm not sure I follow," Dane says, shifting his stance and folding his arms.
The sheriff rubs the back of her neck, her expression somewhere between stubborn and apologetic.
"Look, Hunter... I respect you as a fellow officer and it's thanks to you and your friend at that chem lab we even know all this but... Well, this case just escalated from tragic accident to felony arson, possibly homicide."
She beckons to the young deputy and he steps forward, pulling some folded papers from his back pocket and handing them to Dane.
He opens them and scans the contents, then glances back up with raised brows.
"Search warrants? For Sasha and Martin's houses?"
"Money is always a prime motive and family are always prime suspects in a case like this."
Freya frowns.
"Our parents aren't wealthy, though."
Sheriff Page turns sharp eyes on her.
"They own over ten-thousand acres of land, Ms. Hunter. That's worth millions."
"But this is our family's terri... our home," Freya argues.
"Our parents would never sell even a piece of it and neither would any of us."
Sheriff Page shrugs.
"Never say never. Besides, the house was insured, as were your parents' lives."
"As are their lives," Dane corrects.
"They'd have to be declared dead for anyone to collect, and there's been no evidence of remains. Unless...?"
She casts him a half-pitying, half-understanding look.
"No, the lab found no trace of human remains among the ash. However, at this point..."
"That aside, they can't have been insured for much, at their age," Monty says, speaking up for the first time.
"You in the insurance business, or the NBA?"
Sheriff Page asks, looking Monty up and down and seeming to take him in for the first time.
"No, ma'am. Personal protection, formerly. I had a few older clients, rich dude types, who insured their lives during periods of escalated threat. It wasn't cheap. The older you get, the more likely you are to die, the less a company is willing to bet against those odds, unless you can match that bet upfront."
"Well, your parents did just that," Sheriff Page says.
"Each insured for half a million dollars, just a month before their house burns down and they vanish."
Dane gives only the slightest sign of surprise, something anyone who doesn't know him well would miss and Freya has a pro-level poker face.
Monty, on the other hand, can't hide his shock.
Sheriff Page locks on target and keeps her eyes on him.
"So now I gotta ask. Is there any reason you can think of, Mr. Hunter, for your parents to be in fear for their lives?"
Several thoughts flick through Monty’s brain... the Outcasts, the Mortaines but none of that is something he can easily explain to a human sheriff with no understanding of Wolves.
"No, ma'am," he says, hoping his voice carries only innocent perplexity.
"Mom and Dad never mentioned anything like that to me."
Not that they would have.
They knew how easily Monty worries and how quickly he'd drop everything and come running if he thought someone he loved needed him.
He hadn't understood, at first, why they'd gradually distanced themselves over the years but eventually Monty got it, they loved him, too and didn't like to see him hurt himself or his career.
It was a hard lesson to learn, that caring too much could push people away and it still hurt deep inside when he thought about it too much.
Because he hadn't really learned that lesson until it was too late.
Sheriff Page nods, bringing Monty back to the present.
"Well, given their proximity and the possibility of a direct benefit from your parents' deaths, your brother and sister are prime suspects. Judge Peters granted the warrants on the grounds that time is of the essence when searching for this kind of evidence. I'm sorry but I'm just doing my job."
"Like you were before Dane showed up and kicked your butt into gear?" Freya asks, arms crossed and a belligerent sparkle in her eyes.
Sheriff Page shrugs, seemingly unoffended.
"I do my job the best I can with the resources I have, Ms. Hunter. Scientists who specialize in chemical forensics aren't usually among those resources. I appreciate you calling in that favor, Dane but that's why this is a surprise visit. As dedicated to justice as you may be, you got a conflict of interest here."
As she speaks, the others approach, drawn by curiosity and the length of time we've been talking.
"What's going on?" Sasha asks, coming to stand by Jake.
Likewise, Kit comes to Monty, slipping his hand discreetly into his.
In a few words, Dane explains.
Sasha takes the warrant papers with a frown, giving them a cursory glance.
"Well, all right. You're welcome to look around. Not that I have a choice, it seems."
She smiles uncertainly and glances up at Page and the deputy.
"You won't make a mess of things, though, will you? On TV, the cops always make a mess of things."
"We'll respect your property, Ms. Hunter," Page assures her.
"But it's gonna take some time and once we're done here, we'll be searching your brother's house as well. Might be more comfortable for your guests to clear off for a few hours, though we'd like you and Martin to stick around in case we have questions."
“Oh, all right," Sasha agrees.
"I'll get you my keys, too. Been keeping my shop locked, with the little ones here."
Monty recalls the argument she'd had with Freya over the missing supplies and wonder if the kids are really who she's trying to keep out of there.
They mill about for a bit, cleaning up the remnants of the barbecue while the sheriff and deputy Lawson collect their evidence-gathering supplies from their vehicle.
"What about your place, Jake?" Sasha asks once the cleanup is complete.
"It'd be a little cramped but I'm sure no one would mind for one night."
"Sweetheart, I'm renovating, remember?" Jake says.
"The kitchen's a mess and the water's off. It'd be hell."
"Oh, right. Hey, that reminds me, did you pick up that old cast-iron sink I wanted? It'd make a perfect outdoor washstand, once I fix it up."
He slips his arm around her soft waist.
"Sure did. It's in my truck. I'll get it out for you tomorrow morning, sugar, once this shitstorm blows over. In the meantime, I'll wait with you here until the cops clear off. Damned waste of time, if you ask me. They oughta be looking at them Outcasts, not dickin' around here, where there's nothing to find."
Dane frowns and Monty feels Kit shivers at his side. Monty gives his hand another reassuring squeeze.
Ophelia and her mate have the least to gain from their parents' disappearance, as far as Monty can tell.
After what Kit told me about the Mortaines, I've no doubt they've good reason to fear losing the protection of our Pack.
"Elena's going to kill me," Martin groans, eyeing his kids.
Having lost interest in the sheriff once the flashing lights stopped, they'd returned to their game of tag.
"Why? You can't help it they got a warrant," Freya says.
"What you gonna do? Eat the sheriff?"
Martin laughs humorlessly.
"Elena might prefer that, actually. There's nothing to find, of course but she'd hate the idea of strangers, humans, going through her things."
Freya frowns.
"She remembers her brother-in-law is a former homicide detective, right? I mean, she's not one of those Wolves who thinks we're above human law or something, is she?"
Martin rubs his arm absently and shrugs.
"I'm not sure I know anymore," he mumbles and Freya drops her jesting tone and rests a hand on his shoulder.
"Hey, are you two doin' okay? I mean... even wolf-mates hit a rough patch, time to time."
A bleak look crosses Martin's face, the look of a man stranded on an island who sees a ship in the distance but too far away to signal for help.
Then he smiles and shakes his head.
"She's just busy. She loves her work but I think the stress gets to her, sometimes. I wish she'd... Anyway, at least she won't be home until late tomorrow. Now I just gotta worry about keeping this lot entertained."
He nods at his kids.
"Hey, Auntie Frey to the rescue. I'll keep an eye on 'em for the night. We'll have fun."
Martin smiles gratefully, then winces again.
"Just have 'em back by mid-morning," he says.
"Elena doesn't like it when their schedule's interrupted."
"Damn, she a hard-ass bitch, huh?" Freya jokes.
"She's my Mate," Martin answers in mild rebuff and goes to join Sasha where she stands with Jake, watching as the sheriff begins her search.
Freya sighs once he's out of earshot.
"Damn but sometimes the man seems more like a dog with a mean owner than a Wolf. Just goes to show not all Matings are matches made in heaven, I guess."
Once again, Monty feels Kit's hand tighten on his as he shivers, though this time he’s not sure why.
                                                       ~ ☾ ~
After Martin and Sasha reassure us once again that they don't need us to stay and wait out the search with them, Freya, Julian and Dane take the kids and head into town to get rooms for the night. Monty has other plans.
"There's a place I'd like to show you," he says to Kit, once the others have gone.
It's full dark and we've wandered some ways from the house, back into the old orchard.
It looks different at night, mysterious and secluded, with the canopy of thick old boughs low overhead, blocking out most of the stars.
"It'll be much faster to get there on four feet, though. Are you okay to Shift?"
Kit ducks his head, his golden curls turned silver by the filtered luminance of the moon.
"Yes. I'm alright."
Detecting a shiver in his voice, Monty tucks his fingers beneath his chin and gently lift his face.
His black eyes shine with little pinprick stars.
"Hey, remember our promise. Tell me the truth."
"I want to go where you go, Monty," he whispers.
"But you don't wanna Shift to get there, do you?"
Kit turns his head aside, lowering his gaze again.
"I'm sorry. Sometimes at night... I don't like to lose my human form."
Monty frowns, thinking it probably has to do with the terror of the 'practice hunts' he was subjected to, the memories coming out stronger after dark.
"Well... you're not scared of my Wolf, are you?" Monty asks.
Kit shakes his head.
"Of course I'm not scared of you, Monty."
Monty goes behind a tree, strip out of his clothes and emerge as a wolf.
He shakes my long brown fur to settle it, then look at Kit expectantly.
Hesitantly, Kit steps towards Monty, reaching with thin fingers to touch his face.
Monty licks his cheek playfully and to his relief Kit laughs with shy delight, pushing him away.
Then Monty dips his front legs in invitation and after one more slight hesitation, Kit climbs up on his back.
He’s the size of a small pony, after all.
Taking a few steps, Monty makes sure Kit's got good balance and a good grip and then gradually increase my pace, trying to keep his gait smooth. Once he’s confident Kit won't fall off, Monty relaxes into an easy lope, with the young man lying forward, legs tucked against the large wolf’s sides and his arms wrapped about his neck.
Somehow, his warm weight feels like nothing at all and filled with a light, simple joy, Monty could run like this all night.
He doesn't have to, though and twenty minutes later they arrive at the place he wanted to share with Kit.
It's tucked away at the base of a low ridge, at the end of a long, open vale.
Several springs originate here and one of them is hot.
The natural, shallow pools have been widened and deepened over the years and with no vegetation growing nearby, they stay relatively clean.
Monty mounts the low granite ledges leading up to the pools in a few quick bounds, Kit clinging tight to his back and then stop and let him slide off to the ground.
Trotting away behind some large rocks, Monty Shift back to his human form, emerging to find him gazing about in wonder.
The pools give off little wisps of steam, even on a relatively warm summer night.
"This might be the best kept secret on this land," Monty says, smiling.
"Like the sheriff said, this place is worth millions and not just for cattle grazing. If my parents had a mind, they could open a resort here. What do you think?"
"It's... wonderful," Kit breathes, gazing up at the Milky Way splashed overhead, lighting the summer sky. Monty checks one of the pools with his hand. The temperature stays roughly the same, year round but it's always wise to check before jumping in. It's perfect as usual and he step in and sits on a low, smooth ledge.
"Aren't you coming in?" Monty calls, when Kit remains where he is. Kit turns and sees Monty and his eyes go wide.
"We are... night swimming?"
Monty laughs, realizing he doesn't understand.
"Come here." he beckons.
"You ever had a hot bath outside?"
He finches and Monty remembers what Kit told him, first about how he hadn't been allowed to use hot water and second, how his brothers had tortured him in the stream.
“Hey, come here," Monty says, more gently.
"It's a treat. I promise."
Trustingly, Kit comes and kneels at the edge of the pool and Monty takes his hand and dips his fingers in the water. He gasps.
"It's hot!"
"Yeah," Monty laughs. "It's a natural hot spring. Heated by the earth herself. Come on, it's good for you."
Kit hesitates a moment, then he sheds his clothes, placing them in a neatly folded pile and joins Monty, slipping in to sit at his side.
His obedience is touching but troubling, too and Monty reminds himself not to take it for granted.
He wants to please but maybe not for the reasons Monty would like.
After a moment, though, Kit relaxes and Monty can tell he understands, it's not because he want something from him but because he wants to give something to him that he brought him to this place.
"It's beautiful," Kit whispers, his eyes once more on the star-strewn sky overhead.
"Beautiful, Monty. And so... so much. Like you."
Unsure what he means, Monty frowns but then Kit leans his head on the older man’s shoulder and sighs.
Kit feels safe, Monty realizes, with him and that's something precious, something worth cherishing.
They sit for a long time, until Monty knows his fingers and toes will be all gross and wrinkly and my muscles feel all loose and noodlelike.
Then they get out and let their skin cool and dry in the summer night air.
Finally, as the moon sets, Monty Shifts again and lies down beneath a low overhang of stone, like his wild cousins in a natural den.
Kit comes and tucks himself against him, so fragile and lovely in his human form.
He falls asleep like that, his face half buried in Monty’s fur.
With his Wolf's mind, Monty’s thoughts are less distinct, more a series of scents and impressions than coherent ideas but a few things make it through.
Like the feeling that, more than Kit belonging to him, he belong to him, that he'd do anything to make him happy and that he is his one true...
Kit sighs in his sleep and curls a little closer against Monty and his heart constricts with new pain.
Monty whines and tuck himself into a crescent around Kit, snout to tail.
It's okay, he reminds myself.
It's just like any other job.
He'd die to keep him safe but isn't that what he'd do for all his clients?
Isn't that what they'd paid him for.
Another voice speaks in his mind.
No, this is different, it says.
This is...
                                                     ~ ☾ ~
In the morning, Monty wakes up hungry.
Kit laughs at the growl emanating from his stomach and pats his wolf head.
"Oh, fearsome beast," he laughs.
"You won't eat me, will you?"
Monty would like to but not in the way Kit thinks.
With a whine, he dips his front half in a dog's bow, inviting him to climb on his back again.
Kit obliges and Monty sets off at a quick lope, keeping to the trees, this time.
With modern technology, drones and satellites, there's a chance someone might get a picture of a gigantic wolf with a man on its back and that's not the distraction the world needs right now.
Back in the orchard, Monty Shifts once more and dons his clothes and then notices that his cell-phone has over ten missed calls.
Opening it, Monty sees they're all from Dane.
He calls his brother back and Alpha Dane Hunter answers on the first ring.
"Monty, where the fuck have you been?" he snaps, letting a bit of his alpha slip through with his displeasure.
"I...I was showing Kit the hot spring. What... What's happened?"
"Sasha's been arrested, that's what. Now get your ass over here."

Decay!Tale p2
When I come to, I find myself in my cell. I know it's my cell because I recognize the stuff scrawled onto the walls. Symbols, words, pictures, etc. Something's different about it, however, and I can't place my finger on it… at least until G█████ opens the heavy titaniungsten door. There used to be a laser gate, but I guess he decided a heavy door would keep me in here better.
"Hello, Z99," he says in a deceptively calm voice. "I have some… questions… for you."
"I thought you weren't going to give me any quizzes until I make up for the explosion I caused in the chem lab a few days ago," I say as I sit up.
"No, this isn't a quiz. What do you remember from before you blacked out?"
"Why do you wanna know? Is this some sort of memory endurance test?"
"Just answer the question," G█████ says with frustration.
"Alright, jeez. Um… not much. Just absorbing that teal soul you left with me when you heard Sa– … uh… w-what was his name again? The short one?"
"The 'short one' is 1S. The taller one is–"
"2P. I… I remember that. Anyway, you left to see what was wrong with 1S. After that, I–"
"Absorbed the teal soul. You already went over that."
"O-oh, right. Heh heh. Um, then I got up and went down the hall to see if everything was okay, when I heard you and 1S talking."
"Do you remember what we were saying?" G█████ asks with a small hint of panic.
"N-no. I don't."
At that moment, I start coughing really hard, and 2P pokes his head in through the open door to see what's going on.
"IS ZE– UH… Z99 GOING TO BE ALRIGHT?" He asks.
"They should be fine as long as they don't–" I begin coughing up blood. "S██t. 2P, go back to your cell and don't come out until I say it is okay to, understand?" G█████ says with anger and anxiety in his voice. 2P nods and slips away. G█████ picks me up and carries me to the infirmary. Everything is hazy. My ears are ringing and my heart is thumping loudly, and the only other thing I can hear is my breathing. G█s██r shouts something, but it sounds muffled and distant. My mind races, and I begin hearing thoughts that aren't my own.
Hey, Zephyr. Can you hear me?
W-what? Yes, I can hear you. My name isn't Zephyr, it's Z99. Who are you?
My name is C███a, and your name is Zephyr, you just have amnesia. G██t█r took advantage of this so he could use you as a lab rat, so to speak.
H-huh? You aren't making any sense, C██r█. What do you mean, I'm a lab rat?
Well, you've noticed █a██e█ working on something with a teal glow, right?
Uh, yeah. A few times.
The conversation with █h██a gets interrupted by ██s█e█ saying, "You're awake. Good. Can you sit up?"
"I think so?" I say, trying and failing to sit up on my own. "Oh, looks like I can't."
Ga███r sighs with frustration and helps me sit up.
"I removed the teal soul to make some imperative modifications. I'm almost done, and once I am, you'll be sent to the Capitol to see if Asgore thinks your soul is strong enough to be one of the seven."
It has nothing to do with strength. Well, it actually does, but a different kind of strength. Gas█e█ keeps increasing the wrong strength.
"Hey, Gas█e█?"
"Yes, Z99?"
"Stop lying to me. Call it hunch or whatever, but I know that you've been lying to me the whole time. My real name is Zephyr. I wasn't artificially grown. So stop lying to me and tell me the whole truth. Including the truth about 1S and 2P."
"Fine…" Ga███r tells me the truth. The truth about 1S and 2P, the truth about Chara, the truth about the entire Underground, and the truth about me.
After it all sinks in, he makes me leave the lab.
I wander in a hazy trance eastward. I wander through Hotland and a giant noisy machine. According to a sign that I saw in a building called MTT resort, where I buy something called a 'face steak' and some sword-shaped sandwiches and sleep for about one and a half days, the machine is called the CORE.
Somehow, after a few hours of wandering, I reach an elevator. I step inside the elevator and ride it to wherever it goes. The first thing I see when I step out of the elevator is a monochrome path.
This triggers a lot of memories, enough to fill in the gaps everywhere else.
I follow the path and eventually reach a long hall, with golden light spilling in from the windows.
At the other end, I see the silhouette of a skeleton. I approach them quickly and end up collapsing in front of them. I manage to get on my knees and look up at them. It's Sans.
"heya, kid. how's it going? heh, still got them rosy cheeks, eh?"
"Sans? Uh, I'm fine. What are you doing here?"
"just thought i'd wait for you here so i can take you to see asgore before the five-year-old human comes to fight him to the death."
"Sure. Let's do– wait, what did you say about a five-year-old human?"
"there's a little kid who fell down here into the underground earlier today. they've made some pretty amazing progress, and should be reaching alphys's lab right about now. since they have a really powerful soul, they're the key to breaking the barrier. anyway, let's go see asgore now. also, ya might want this."
Sans lends me his jacket and leads me to the throne room, where Asgore is watering some flowers.
"hey, asgore," Sans says, startling the King. They both apologize simultaneously, Sans for scaring him, and Asgore for getting scared, and have a good chuckle about it.
"Howdy, Sans. Oh, who's this? I hope they aren't that five-year-old human that I've been hearing about, because then they'd be a very tall five-year-old."
"nah, this one ain't the little kid. this is zephyr, a human with a knack for falling apart literally."
Asgore notices that I have spots of heavily decayed skin on my hands, legs, and neck.
"Oh my. I hope you do not have leprosy, Zephyr, because that would not be good."
"It isn't leprosy," I say. "It has something to do with my soul."
"I've read somewhere that humans have the ability to create a manifestation of their soul, a 1-to-1 replica, so to speak. Do you think you can do that so I can take a look at your soul?"
I nod and focus all my energy on manifesting my soul. After a few seconds, a teal heart shaped object appears and begins hovering above my hand. It's covered in dark spots, and there are small chunks missing in various places.
"Oh my," Asgore says. "I've seen a soul like this in one of Gas█e█'s books. If I recall correctly, it's called a decayed soul. These kinds of souls can come in many colors, but they all look like they are rotting. Decayed souls don't start out that way. Something happens to them that causes the decay to begin. It's different from soul to soul, but... you get the gist, right?"

Peter Parker was the kind of guy who would get easily flustered if he was to talk to a girl, or any human as a matter of fact.
So it came off as a big shock to the Avengers when they found out that he, the shy nerdy Peter Parker, had a girlfriend at all.
They were all having a family dinner (something about bonding, Tony had said), when you called him, interrupting him from some Spidey adventure story he was reciting.
"Sorry guys, gotta take this," He said, phone smushed between his cheek and shoulder, fork halfway through his mouth, "uh, hey babe, what happened? Everything okay?"
Bucky and Steve were the first one to break out of their shocked stares as Peter called someone "babe" on the phone.
Surely you don't call your friend babe, right?
"Peter! Thank God you picked up, can you come over right now?" You said on the phone.
"Uh actually, I'm having dinner, is it okay if I come over in an hour or so?" He said, ignoring the shouted whispers about a brewing conspiracy of who could it be on the phone in the background.
"Okay, but don't forget like last time! I'm actually calling you to help me out with our chem lab manual-"
"-didn't we do it during homeroom yesterday?"
"Yeah but I need help with this one experiment, please Petey? I really need your help with this." You whine, hoping that he would catch your drift. But he didn't apparently, because he sighed, looking over his shoulders to see the Avengers with perked up ears, and replied;
"Okay fine. I'll be there in an hour Okay? Bye." He said and hung up, pocketing his phone and making his way to the dining room, only to be assaulted by a hundred and one questions.
"Peter who was that-"
"You've been keeping secrets from your father figure now-"
"Hope you're being safe, if you know what I mean-"
"Kids these days." (That was from Steve)
"Guys stop! One by one please!" Peter shouted, holding his hands to his ears, frowning as he glared at them, "why are you all asking these questions?"
"Because kid, if I'm being honest, we don't believe that you have a girlfriend, so spill the beans." Tony sighed, holding his cheek with his elbow on the table.
"Okay ouch. Why is it so hard to believe have a girlfriend?! I'm hot." Peter pouted, crossing his arms to try and look intimidating.
"Because you're you! You're shy nerdy Peter!" Tony said, gesturing at others to back him up.
"I mean, he's not that bad. Quite a charmer." Natasha smirked, sending him a look, which quite frankly, terrified and impressed Peter at the same time.
"Yeah, yeah totally."
"I believe you kid. Are we gonna meet her soon?" Tony rolled his eyes, smiling when he blushed red.
"If she's okay with it." He said, intertwining his fingers.
"Well I hope she is, cause I want to meet the girl who stole my kid's heart."
"Mr. Staaaark!"
***
Leaving the tower had been a difficult feat, with the constant questions and a snarky comment or two, especially when they found out that you were a cheerleader.
Rapping his knuckles on your apartment door, he smiled as you greeted him with an excited hug. He couldn't help but look at your skirt, the way it enhanced your waistline, and how it fit just right on your thighs, its frills swaying with the sway of your hips-
"Pete? You coming or what?" You laughed, a hand on your room's door as you look over your shoulder with glinting eyes.
"Uh- uh yeah just a minute. Are your parents home?" He asked casually, following you to your room.
"Nah, they're out for tonight." You said, closing the door behind him.
"Oh that's good, which experiment were you- Uh, what are you doing?" He asked, his voice rising an octave as he saw you unbuttoning your shirt, moving your fingers in slow motion as if to tease him.
"I finished my homework yesterday Petey, that's not why I called you." You whispered, straddling his lap as you hold his face, eyes shining with mischief. He instantly felt his dick harden as you rubbed against him, face burning when you traced his cheekbones, kissing his nose and then his lips.
"What, Uh, what did you call me for then?" He stuttered, holding your waist through the skirt's thin material, fingers itching to tear it off you. His heart was racing and he wondered if you could hear it doing so.
"You know why, it's been so long and I miss you baby." You whined, pouting as he unzips your skirt, watching it slide down your thighs in rivulets. You clench your thighs against his waist, intertwining your toes as you felt the space between your legs starting to wet.
"You met me in school yesterday." He mumbled, puffing his cheeks as he strained to keep a straight face, not with you looking so pretty in just your bra and skirt.
You had been overwhelmingly horny the past few hours, craving for your boyfriend's touch, imagining the way he fucked you against your bed frame as it shook with his strength.
"You miss me huh?" He smirked, catching you off guard when he flipped you over, holding you down as he rocked his hips against yours, leaving sloppy, wet kisses down your neck, reaching between your breasts and stopping a moment enough to hear you whine.
"I missed you so much and I want to fuck you now." You said, sucking a breath when he all but tore your bra, arching your back to let his fingers linger on you.
"Missed you too, missed all of you, missed your wet pussy. Wanna show my pretty girl how much I missed her." He growled, sucking on the sensitive skin of your nipple as he massaged your breasts.
"Already wet for me eh?" He whispered, nibbling at your ear as he slid his length into You, "Fuck baby such a tight pussy."
Quickly undressing himself, you openly drooled at how packed your boyfriend was. It was not the first time you would be doing… it together since your six month long relationship, but it was the first time you got to see his dominant side, and it turned you on.
"Mmhmm yeah, only cause your dick is practically blue." You moaned, hissing when he hit a sensitive spot.
"Fuck, oh shit go faster Peter- oh!" You hissed, your skin slapping with his as he thrusts into you with a gusto.
"You like that babygirl?" He asked, eyes scrunching as he threw his head back, feeling your walls clench against his dick as you moved with him.
"Yes! You're so good oh- I'm gonna cum Peter!" You panted, chest heaving as your stamina decreases with every push and pull, your hands fisted on your sheets hard enough for them to pull out of your mattress.
You saw him flush red, confusion showing on your face as you tilted your head, your  almost orgasm forgotten as you held his cheek, "what happened?"
"I- you've never um, org-orgasmed before on me." He muttered, his pupils blown wide as he looks at you with the most innocent look ever, and you would have laughed had his dick still not been inside you, midway in the air, his butt held high above.
"Peter… are You, we've literally fucked so many times and you're getting flustered over me orgasming?" You chuckled, wiping away the sweat forming on his forehead.
"Yeah but you've never come on my bare dick before!" He countered, gulping as he saw you smirk.
"Everything has a first time doesn't it?" You say, picking yourself upright so that you were chest to chest now, your nipples hardening against his bare chest as you rubbed against him, "Wanna try something?"
Your hand slides down to his dick as he nodded a yes, slowly pumping his balls as you kiss his lips. You hear him moan tour name, the sounds sending wetness dripping down your thighs again. Ignoring your thighs, you bent down to lick the tip of his dick, slick with pre cum and bright pink.
"Is this okay?" You ask, swirling your tongue teasingly, wetting his already wet dick with your mouth as you sucked at it with a pop.
"This is amazing baby, keep going." He threw his head back, a growl emitting from deep inside his throat, "wow uhhh."
"Wow what Petey?"
"Wow you're- you're amazing. God I've- I understand why people like being on the receiving end of the job right now."
"Job?" You laughed, "hun this isn't a Job."
"You- you know what I mean!" He chuckled, shaking his head as you continued to suck on it.
"No I don't. Please enlighten me." You smiled, peeping from under your lashes as your tongue works through his hard member.
"I know you know." He whimpered, hands creeping up to his balls as he tried to take care of his blues.
"No. Lemme do it." You slapped his hands, snickering when he whined.
"Oh Tony wants to meet you by the way." He said suddenly, making you groan and fall back dramatically.
"You know I don't do family members Petey." You mumbled, pulling him down, his mouth immediately latching onto the underside of your breasts.
"But why? Am I- aren't we serious enough now?" He asked.
Your heart stuttered at the thought of meeting one of the most important people in his life other than May. You and May had already met (post an unfortunate...accident), not to mention he was freaking Iron Man!
"It's not that. It's just, what if he doesn't like me? Or black widow. I'm not your normal nerdy girl with A grades, what if they think I'm not good enough for you? Or that I'm violating you for Spider-Man? What if-"
"- baby I swear they'll love You! And if they don't then it's their loss, because no matter what you are, who you are friends with, how many A's you get or don't, you'll always be my girl." His voice was soft as his hands moved with featherlight movements, rubbing light circles on your waist, instantly relaxing you.
"Are you sure?" You said, biting your lips and fiddling with his hair. He gave another moan as your fingers played with his hair, scratching slightly behind his ear.
"Yes bub, they will love you. You're very important to me, you know that right?" He said.
"Even if I wear short skirts and hang out with jocks?" You giggled, resting your forehead on his toned chest, playing with his skin.
"Especially if you wear those short skirts." He smirked, making you roll your eyes as you slapped his chest slightly. Sighing, you kissed him again, rolling over so you were laid on top of him.
Wrapping your arms around him, you let yourself fall asleep, with his clothes in your room and hand in your hair.
***
Peter woke up the next morning, the incessant ringing of his phone working as an alarm.
Groaning he rolled over, careful as to not wake you up, squinting at the bright screen of his phone. Before he could cut the ringer though, it cut off on its own, only to be taken over by a text.
You didn't come home last night kiddo 😏
Shit.

The Anatomy of the Sun- Chapter I
Edit- This is the first chap in a Percy Jackson/ Greys anatomy AU as well as my first fic! It’s going to follow the Grey’s anatomy plot behind the patients and the romances will be loosely based off it. I hope you do enjoy it! It was inpsired by @buoyantsaturn and their fic ‘Into you like a train’.
Summary: Dr Will Solace just transferred to the New York Presybetarian hospital to become their Head of Trauma. Dr Nico Di Angelo is a month fresh out of Med- school and is starting his internship at New York Presbytarian. Nico, excited to join his best friend and head of the neurology department- Percy Jackson, wants to prove that he is not just the legacy that his sister- Bianca Di Angelo, left. As the doctors battle to save lives, they also battle to save relationships- but some may say it's too late.
Chapter I- Work Work
Nico could feel his chest pounding as he drove. It wasn’t a good kind of pounding, not that there ever really is, but a -my heart is beating so damn fast - kind of pounding. Today was his first day at New York Presbytarian Hospital as an actual doctor. A surgeon. An intern.
He groaned as he remembered that he would basically be the servant of his bosses for the next year. He wished his sister was here- she’d tell him how awesome he’d be, all the cool parts of internship and how ‘the friends you make here are friends for life’. Nico wasn’t nervous about friends though- he had known the Head of Neuro, Percy Jackson, for almost his entire life. In fact, it had been Percy who inspired him to become a surgeon. Nico knew- As a surgeon, you either have what it takes to play or you don’t. Nico’s sister , Bianca, was one of the greats, Nico on the other hand was so screwed.
The first Nico noticed about the hospital was that it was very very bright. Maybe it wasn’t and Nico was panicking; it wouldn’t be so beyond him. He watched as several other cars pulled up with other newbies similar to himself. He noticed that some people had their own stethoscopes- would anybody notice that his was used? The stethoscope he wore had the initials B.D.A engraved into the side of the drum. Did it matter if someone noticed that his was old? He could easily afford a new one either way but he had wanted to wear his sister's one. He hoped it would bring him good luck because he had a good feeling that he was going to need it.
He walked into the Hospital where he was directed to a cleared Operating Room for the new interns who were having their introduction. He passed a group of attendings, all of whom he vaguely recognised but he noticed one in particular with curly blond hair. Of all the years he had tagged along with Percy to hang out at the hospital, he had never seen that dude- Why haven’t I seen him before?
“Every one of you comes here today hopeful, wanting in the game. A month ago you were in med school being taught by doctors- Today, you are the doctors. The seven years you spend here as a surgical resident will be the best and worst of your life. You will be pushed to the breaking point. Look around you- say hello to your competition. 8 of you will switch to an easier speciality. 5 of you will crack under the pressure, 2 of you will be asked to leave. This is your starting line- This is your arena. How do you play? That's up to you,” A man with long brown hair and greying roots dramatically explained. Nico realised that this was the Chief of Surgery- Chiron! Nico was surprised to learn that he still worked here after all these years. He recalled Bianca talking about Chiron who had been her mentor.
Nico looked around at what was his competition-  as he thought, he was so screwed.
As he made his way into the locker room, some faces became familiar. He recalled some of these faces- the people he had met at the mixer. Nico decided to focus on work and not making friends; if someone spoke to him, he’d reply but he was not initiating any conversations. He had diagnosed himself with the overall dislike of humanity. Just as he was contemplating wearing his white coat, ( he remembered Bianca telling him that everyone knows that the doctors with the cleanest coats are the newbies and he did not want people noticing) the girl to his left with cropped brown hair and a determined expression tapped him on the shoulder.
“You’re Nico right? Which resident have you got?” She asked.
“Yeah, I’m Nico and I’ve got Chase. What about you?”
 “ Same. And it’s Meg.”
A guy from across the room turned around, excited to have something in common with others. His hair was short and blond but not the same colour as the new attending that Nico had noticed earlier. This guy's hair was almost a platinum kind of blond whereas the attending had golden hair- Like the colour of sunrise.
“You’ve got her too? So did I- You’re Nico, Nico Di Angelo right? I’m Jason Grace- we met at the mixer. You made a bold impression; black, skinny ripped jeans,  Ramone T-shirt and skull rings despite the fact it was obviously a work event… Okay I’ll stop talking,” The man rushed out all at once.
“Grace, Mccaffrey, Di Angelo and June!” A voice called out into the locker room. Nico looked at what were supposed to be his future friends. If he was supposed to feel some sort of magical bond with them- he sure as hell was not. The girl in front (who Nico could only assume was Dr June) was almost hopping - okay, she’s a happy person,  Avoid her at all costs- he put in a mental reminder. Nico watched as she approached the Blonde woman at the desk. Nico almost face palmed- Her surname was Chase- this had to be Percy’s girlfriend that he had been telling him about over the phone a while ago. June started talking only to be cut off.
“I’m Juniper June but most people just call me-”
“I have 5 rules, memorise them. Rule number 1- don’t bother sucking up, I already hate you, that's not gonna change. Trauma protocol, phone list and pagers-” Annabeth pointed to the desk behind her. There lay 4 pagers which all the interns, including Nico, scrambled forward to grab.
“-Nurses will page you, you answer every page at a run- you hear me? A run, Rule number 2- Your first shift starts now and lasts 48 hours. You’re interns, grunts, nobodies- bottom of the surgical food chain. You run labs, write orders, work every second night until you drop and don’t complain!” She called as she led them across the bridge and into the second section of the hospital. Nico, not being the tallest person, struggled slightly to keep up.  They walked into a dark room that seemed to have bunk beds with thin mattresses and flimsy unmade covers.
“On call rooms- attendings hog them- sleep when you can, where you can, which brings me to Rule number 3. If I’m sleeping, don’t wake me unless your patient is actually dying. Rule number 4- the dying patient better not be dead when I get there. Not only will you have killed a person, you would have woken me up for no good reason. We clear?”
Nico was clear but he also wasn’t. He doesn’t remember Bianca telling him any of these rules and he also didn’t recall hearing the 5th rule. Did she already say it when he wasn’t listening? He didn’t think so but he also didn’t want to look like an idiot. He decided to ask, if he was going to fail at this hospital, he might as well fail knowing everything there was to know.
“That's only 4 rules. You said there were 5.” Nico slid in between Meg and Dr Grace, his head only up to the bases of their necks. Just Nico said those words, he heard a beeping which he could only assume came from someone's pager. Annabeth immediately looked down, grabbing the pager she had tagged into her waist.
“Rule number 5- When I move, you move.”
Hour 1
Nico slipped on his gloves as he stood in the elevator with the other interns. The second he heard its ‘ping’ he rushed forward, eager to learn. The wind blasted into his eyes and immediately, Nico raised his hands to cover his face. His hair flopped about as the helicopter descended in front him. He raised his head slightly and saw the same golden haired attending that he had noticed earlier- Nico took a guess that he was the trauma surgeon. He followed Dr. Chase who ran forward and helped lift the stretcher out of the helicopter. Nico perked his ears up as he heard the trauma surgeon recite her history.
“Katie Bryce, 15 years old, female, new onset seizures- intermittent for the past week. IV lost en route- Started grand mal seizing as we descended,” He shouted over the loud roar of the engine. Crap, Grand mal seizures, really? God really thought lets give me a hard case. They rushed to get her inside and Nico was trying to not panic as he heard Dr. Chase command the staff like it was her own mini army.
“Put her on her side. 10 Milligrams of diazepam. No, the white lead is on the right. Righty whitey, smoke over fire. Give her a large bore IV, Don’t let the blood hemolyze.”
A different doctor walked in, his hair was black and cut short. His skin was a creamy white and Nico recognised the second language under ‘Doctor Zhang’ on his white coat to be chinese.
“Dr. Chase, what do we have?” He asked, flipping through her chart.
“Right now, nothing.”
“Okay, let's shotgun her.” He raised his hands and took a step backwards, allowing for the interns to continue their treatment.
“Okay, you heard the man. Shotgun means every test in the book- CT, CBC, Chem 7, Tox screen. Mccaffery- you’re running labs, Grace- patient work ups and Di Angelo- take her for a CT,” Dr. Chase ordered
“Um, Dr. Chase, I think you forgot me,” Juniper piped up meekly. Annabeth turned around and gave her a firm look before telling her,
“Honey, you’re doing rectal exams.”
Nico couldn’t tell if he should laugh at the poor intern or console her.
Each intern was busy. Extraordinarily busy. Nico did not expect the line for the CT machine to be so long. This was the best hospital in all of New York! You’d think they would be much faster but no, here Nico was with his patient who he had recently learnt, loved to talk… about herself.
“I’m missing my pageant,” Kaite whined.
“You’re missing your pageant?” Nico had to physically restrain himself from snorting. So that's what non- doctors  and people with normal lives did. Things like going to pageants.
“Yeah! And I was super excited because the judges were getting to the talents for the pageant- Mine is rhythmic gymnastics. I sprained my ankle and fell when I was training but now I was soo ready but then...” she threw her arms up slightly signifying everything around them and Nico understood- she had a seizure which stopped her from competing.
“Katie Bryce’s labs came out clear, nothing in the results that would explain her seizures,” Meg informed Dr. Chase who was currently peeking her head out of a surgery. Dr. Chase nodded and was about to return to assisting on the procedure when Meg started talking again
“I heard that the attending picks the most promising intern on the first to perform a minor procedure.”
Dr. Chase looked anything but impressed.
“Go away,” she deadpanned as she closed the door in Meg’s face and returned to her surgery.
“It’s just what I heard!” Meg mumbled exasperatedly as she left the scrub room.
Hour 7
The cafeteria was full. One would think the hospital cafeteria would be stocked with healthy foods but in reality it was quite the opposite. It was stacked with a bunch of doctors telling you to eat healthy food as they stuffed their faces with pizza. The seating arrangements weren’t much different from a high school. You sit with who you know and avoid the ones in charge. Meg, Jason, Juniper and a group of other interns were all grouped together not too far away from the group of attendings and 3 residents.
“You know Nico is inbred.” Meg popped the fact onto the other interns.
“Like it’s uncommon to be related to a doctor, my sister is Dr Thalia Grace.”Jason pointed his thumb to the girl with jet back hair and array of ear piercings who was currently smiling wickedly.
“No like royally inbred, his sister is Bianca Di Angelo,” Meg insisted.
“Shut up! The Bianca Di Angelo?” Juniper joined in.
“Who is Bianca Di Angelo?” Jason, as clueless as ever, asked. The entire table exploded into whispers and gasps.
“Where do you live, under a rock? The angel method? Where do you think that came from?”
“She’s a living legend!”
“She’s won 2 harper Averies!”
“Talk about familial pressure.”
“Um, incoming Nico Di Angelo,” Jason tried to speak over the food in his mouth unsuccessfully. Luckily, the other interns looked in the direction of him and shut their mouths up in time. Nico, with his 3rd cup of coffee that day slumped into a chair and slammed his head onto the table.
“Katie Bryce is a pain in my ass. If I hadn’t taken the hippocratic oath, I’d kevorkian her with my bare hands,” Nico groaned. Juniper, eager to get his mind off an annoying patient chirped in,
“I heard Chase and Jackson were dating- A resident and an attending!”
“They are,” Nico confirmed as the interns stole glances at the attending and the resident together, surprised that Dr. Chase had the ability to laugh or smile.
“Who wants to go for an attending? Bet ya none of you can,” Meg poked fun at them.
“I bet ya I could do Solace, he’s new apparently,” Nico hummed as he peacefully sipped his coffee, closing his eyes to enjoy the smell that drifted into his nose.
“Meg, you wanna go for Valdez?” Juniper curiously poked.
“Nah, he’s only a resident and besides- He’s totally making eyes at Calypso. Letting a resident try to get into an attending pants is way more fun. I wanna see him fall into a hole.”
All of the interns stopped and turned to Meg, a slightly horrified look growing on their faces.
“Okay, now that Satan has stopped talking, who wants to put down their bets?” Jason beamed as Meg sneaked a quick punch to arm which had him cowering for a bit longer than necessary. The interns were all mucking about until a new voice joined the conversation.
“Hey! I just transferred to Chase’s service, I don’t really know anyon-”
“-Hazel?”  Nico’s confused voice echoed and his eyes shot open at the recognition of the soft voice.
“Nico?”  Hazel raised an eyebrow. They had both agreed to go to work in separate hospitals to limit family drama.  Ever since they had found out they were related, the family tensions had been higher than ever. Nico had assumed Hazel would go to a different hospital and leave New York Presbyterian for him and it seems Hazel had assumed the same vice versa.
“You two know each other?” A voice, recognised as Meg, called out.
“I’m Doctor Hazel Levesque. Newest Surgical intern under Dr Chase.” She reached out and gave her hand to Meg who shook it firmly. She gave another hand shake to Jason and a nod to Nico- both of them had ignored Meg’s question.
“Final call, who’s going in?” Jason reminded them.
“Me- Solace is new, hot, probably clueless and he’s the new Head attending in trauma.” Nico slammed his hand onto the table, indicating he was all in. It was easy, right? Seduce him and then manipulate. It couldn’t be too hard.
Around 2 tables away from the interns, the attendings and residents were chatting away. Will, who had only recently joined the hospital, was still getting used to the way people behaved here. Everyone was so much more nice than he had expected. He remembered how people warned him about New York folks but in all honesty, Will would say that he was having a pretty good time, especially if the Di Angelo intern stayed in his eyeline-
“-Solace is eyeing the interns!” Percy’s excited voice cut into Will’s thoughts. Horrified, Will managed to sputter out,
“I am not eyeing the interns!”
“I like the newbie, she seems nice- better than the rest at least,”Frank mumbled about Hazel as he sipped at his hot tea. Piper to his left admitted,
“Blond one’s hot.”
“That blond one is my brother,” Thalia grunted.
“Why doesn’t anyone call me hot?” Leo pouted as he rolled up the other sleeve of his shirt calling the attention of Calypso’s eyes.
I’d totally call you hot , She thought.
She only glanced once.. Maybe twice… okay she was staring at him. But ever since Leo had become a resident, she kept on thinking they had to potential to become what.. Well, what Annabeth and Percy had become. Sure, she had rejected all his previous advances but she didn’t want to. She just didn’t think the timing was right- She was very aware that simply telling him the timing wasn’t right was a much more mature thing to do than acting bratty every time he spoke to her.
“Valdez, go make sure none of the pre-surgery kids aren’t sneaking pudding. There’s always bound to be one.” Dr Reyna Ramirez batted her hand towards her resident who gave her a mock salute before walking off. Calypso, unaware that everyone was watching, had her eyes glued to Leo.
“Calypso is totally checking out Valdez- Mother Hen Reyna watch out- Calypso is after your chicks,” Percy snickered making a joke to the fact that Leo was Reyna’s resident- before Piper smacked him on the back of the head indicating a Shut it, hypocrite.
“No I’m not!” Calypso insisted, whipping her head, that only moments ago was glued to Leo’s ass. She ducked her head and sided next to Piper and Will.
“Calypso eyeing Leo is old news, please make sure you keep yourself updated,” Annabeth proclaimed, her head resting against Percy while his arm was snaked around her waist.
“I will tell you what’s new then, Solace watching Nico like he’s fresh meat. That’s my bro that you’re checking out man.”
“I am NOT checking out Di Angelo!”
“Zhang, who are you picking for the procedure?” Annabeth curiously asked and also slightly eager to move away from the current topic. In all honesty, Annabeth expected Frank to choose Di Angelo- He was clearly the most promising and most experienced if one could even call an intern that. Annabeth knew that Percy and Nico had practically grown up together and besides he was a Di Angelo- Surely if his sister could cut, so could he.
“I’m gonna go with Grace.”
“He is not ready for that. Not to be a terrible sibling but he gets flustered a tad easily,” Thalia butted in, trying to protect her brother. She loved him but Jason was a tad sensitive and rustling his feathers was almost too easy.
“Torture one and the rest will fall in line,” Frank admitted half heartedly. He didn’t want to Pick on Jason- he seemed like a great kid, But he also didn’t want to have to have a bunch of misbehaving interns who had egos too big for the hospital because nobody ever put them in line.
“Are you sure about Grace though?” Annabeth pushed, her voice slightly uneasy. Percy, who noticed this, squeezed her waist gently as a gesture of comfort, affection even. Percy was watching Nico’s table. The interns seemed to be having fun, no one was picking on Nico which was the most important thing and he figured soon the interns would realise Nico’s infamy- of being a Di Angelo of course. What he totally didn’t expect however, was Nico to get out of his chair and casually stroll over towards the group of attendings and residents.
Nico honestly did not know what he was thinking. Was he being bold? Absolutely. Was he acting on impulse? Most obviously. Was he regretting every step towards them? Definitely.
He saw Percy’s eyes widen ever so slightly before his face rested into a comforting, genuine smile- something Nico truly appreciated. If Percy was acting nice, the rest of the group were bound to follow his lead, right? Nico shuffled past 2 of the attendings, reaching behind them to gain access to the coffee machine.
Will didn’t know how to react. Did interns normally come and hang out with attendings here? He had no idea. Percy looked as if he knew Nico all his life and he did tell him earlier; That's my bro you’re checking out man. Were they actually related? Or did they just know each other for a long time? By now, all the attendings were settled at their own tables and Piper had unfortunately been rushed off for emergency surgery on one of her patients, leaving Will to sit by himself at a table. That was until Nico was standing by one of the chairs.
Nico took a deep breath and stood by the chair at Will’s almost empty table. It had taken Will a couple of seconds to notice that there was someone even at his table before he almost jolted backwards, alarmed by the shadow that had appeared on his table. Immediately, out of politeness, he gestured towards a seat.
“Do you wanna take a seat?” He offered politely. He watched as the intern hesitated. He could see how nervous he seemed and for a minute he really pitied him- It was no doubt stressful to be the brother of a famous surgeon, especially a Di Angelo.
“Are you sure? I mean, aren't you an attending, ya know, my boss and-”
“-Calm down, it's just a seat,” Will cut off Nico’s rambling and offered the man a seat. Gingerly Nico took it and looked down at his coffee.
Nico did not think making Dr Solace treat him so nicely was going to be so easy. All he had to do was give a shy look away and blabber a bit and the next thing he knew, Dr. Solace had his hand on top of Nico’s and was shuffling his chair closer to his. Nico realised it was now or never- he had to start sending the right message.
“I’ve always found trauma interesting- ya know? Never knowing what's going to come into those doors. Percy used to tell me how much he hated it,” Nico laughed gently, making sure he accidentally  brushed his leg against Dr Solace’s.
“Trauma? Really? Lucky for you, I just so happen to be the new attending on that.”
“I think I’m much more lucky than you think I am, if you catch my draft,” Nico mummuered, smirking slightly, his eyes dropping to Will's lips causing Will to finally get what he meant. Will, slightly flustered by Nico’s onset attitude, flushed pink slightly. He was flattered greatly that someone as good looking as Nico found him attractive but he didn’t want to cause commotion or draw so much attention to himself  so early either. He wasn’t gonna lie, he totally was into Nico but Will knew that he could be putting Nico’s job at risk, not to mention his own. But it wasn’t as if Nico was using him- Nico seemed too innocent for that and besides- he was a Di Angelo, people respected him and the holy ground he walked on.
“If all goes well in your first surgery, feel free to send that draft out again.” Will winked as he got up and threw away the remains of his terrible lunch before heading to the table with the remaining attendings.
“Impress him with your loving, then impress him with your healing,” Will heard Percy whisper, which earned Percy a punch in the arm from Piper, a dirty look from Annabeth and snort from Frank. Will, slightly sick of Percy’s teasing, stormed off to the department at the entrance of the hospital which all the staff here called ‘The Pit’ for some reason. Percy, as clueless as ever was trying to remain a straight face and Frank was struggling to keep on being the mature one.
Hour 10
Nico was adequately proud of himself- he didn't flirt with people often ( mainly because normally it was people flirting with him) but he couldn’t lie and say he wasn’t slightly nervous when he was walking towards the room of Katie Bryce and saw a man and woman at the desk- Nico presumed they were married due to the wedding rings they wore.
“Katie Bryce, Room 3604?” Nico asked the couple. They nodded eagerly and the 3 adults had a quick conversation where Nico informed them that he wasn’t Katies actual doctor, but still was a doctor, and that he would go and find said doctor. Nico, who didn’t actually know who Katie’s doctor was now, had to verbally tell himself to not panic and he managed to figure out that he should ask Dr. Chase (he prayed she wasn’t sleeping). Luckily, Dr Chase was charting at the nurses station and when she heard his meek footsteps approaching, her head snapped up and she raised an eyebrow.
“Katie Bryce’s parents want to speak with the head on the case. Shall I page Dr. Zhang?”
“Dr Zhang? No, this patient belongs to Neuro now- Dr Jackson, he’s right around the corner.” Annabeth flicked her pen towards her boyfriend who was speaking to two other attendings- who Nico recognised to be Dr Mclean and Dr Ramirez. He waved over to Percy who smiled and dismissed the two doctors before making his way over to Nico and throwing his arm around Nico’s shoulders while ruffling his hair. Nico did not allow the gesture from anyone but felt comforted by it from Percy.
“Percy!”  Nico almost squealed as Percy rubbed his knuckles into Nico’s head keeping him in a loose headlock.
“Death! I haven’t seen you in ages! How has it been?” Percy smiled as he began walking them towards the hallway. Nico cringed slightly from the nickname. Death was not something you want to be called at a hospital, especially if you were a doctor.
“Oh you know, Chase is tough but she knows what she’s doing.”
“She better, she learnt from the best,” Percy said proudly, pointing towards himself. Nico took this as an opportunity to lower Percy’s ego and asked
“Chiron?”
“You smug little-” Percy was cut off by Nico’s shrieks and protests to stop as Percy tickled him. Was it evil of Percy to tickle Nico? Perhaps, especially since he knew that Nico was one of the most ticklish people to ever exist.
Hour 15
Interns filtered into the viewing box above the operating room- they were all excited to watch one of them perform the first surgery. Jason, however, was terrified. He was muttering the basics of the procedure again and again as the crowd filtered in above him. If he made one mistake, everyone would see it, everyone would know and he would become the intern who couldn’t cut.
“Open, identify, ligate, remove, irrigate, close. Open, identify, ligate, remove, irrigate, close,” he muttered continuously, his eyes scrunched shut in fear.
Meanwhile, in the overhead viewing box, interns started placing bets. Sure, everyone was excited that an intern was assisting but they were also bitter. It would be a lie to tell you that no one in that room had thought that they should be down there operating room instead of Dr Grace. As Nico came in, he was slightly surprised to hear people making bets- sure, Jason had taken the surgery from them but betting? Was that really necessary? Especially since they were betting on his demise rather than him succeeding.
“30 dollars if he can’t open the peritoneum.”
“35 if he faints, he seems like a fainter.”
“40 says he kills the guy.”
“50 says he pulls off the whole thing,” Nico, who was sick of hearing the interns bet, cut in, “That's one of us in there- where’s your loyalty?”  Nico had grown up with a loyal best friend- Percy- so if he valued anything in a person it was loyalty. He watched as poor Jason moved his lips, mumbling the procedure. He really hoped Jason didn’t butcher this- he had kind of put his trust in him over here. Jason turned to the nurses as they performed the time- out- reciting the patient's name, sex and other vital information such as the actual surgery- an appendectomy .
“Scalpel,” Jason ordered his hand reaching towards the nurse. As soon as it made contact with Jason’s hand, the interns went wild. The interns were cheering, clapping and whistling. It was official, Jason was the first intern to pick up a scalpel on a live patient. Even Nico joined in on the cheering, leaning back slightly in his seat and clapping- that was until Dr Zhang turned towards the interns and mimicked silence. The interns understood- Dr Grace does not need distractions.
“That Zhang is trouble,” Hazel muttered, biting her lip gently. Nico, trying to resist a smirk, leaned over and whispered,
“Hazel’s got a crush.”
Hazel, as chill as ever (sarcasm intended), pinched Nico’s arm making him flinch, pout and then rub gently at his slightly reddened flesh. Jason was trying to concentrate- he had never thought that one would have to apply so much pressure to cut into human flesh so of course, he hesitated a bit. However, once he was through, he started to find it a bit easier.
“Pickups…. Clamps,” he ordered.
“Dammit, he got through the peritoneum, I’m out,” the intern who betted on Jason admitted defeat as Jason continued.
“Scalpel….. And Appendix is out!”
Despite Dr Zhang's previous warnings, the interns went wild. Jason did it, he actually did it. Nico could see all the interns freaking out and while he was truly happy for Jason, he knew that he hadn’t finished. He had to close and celebrating too early may jinx him. Dr Zhang, who didn’t mind the interns celebrating, began to instruct Jason on his remaining steps.
“Now all you have to is insert the stump into the cecum and simultaneously pull the up on the purse strings, but be careful not to-” Frank was cut of by the distinct sound of sutures snapping- a sound which caused the silence of everyone and echoed
“- Break them,” Frank finished his sentence, sighing. He wouldn’t lie and say that he didn’t expect this but he hoped that the intern would fix his mistake quickly. He watched as Jason struggled nervously. Jason himself didn’t even know what he had just done- all he could replay in his head was the snapping sound and the feeling of the suture breaking. The loss of tension in his hand as he accidently pulled too hard. Out of all the useful knowledge he had, it was that recent memory that just kept on replaying in Jason’s head.
“You’ve just ripped the cecum, you’ve got yourself a bleeder! What do you do now?” Dr Zhang tried to encourage him but it was no use. Nico watched as Jason froze.
Damn it Jason come on! Alas, Nico couldn’t help but think, Jason was like a deer in headlights- Bambi. Jason didn’t know how to react- what did he do now? He hadn’t considered the possibility if the sutures snapped.
“Think- You stop the suctions and start searching for those purse strings before he bleeds to death,” Dr Zhang instructed, his voice the only clear thing in the room other than the drastic beeping coming from the monitor. Nico could feel everybody in the room holding their breath- this moment was either going to make or break Jason.
“Give him a clamp,” Dr Zhang ordered.
“BP’s dropping,” a nurse warned. The interns watched with anxiety for their fellow intern- Jason was frozen, his hands stuck mid-air.
“BP is getting too low.”
Finally Dr Zhang had to make a decision and he held his hand out to the nurses,
“Move. Suction and Clamps.”
The interns all groaned, throwing their heads back or burying their heads between their hands. Money was passed around and Nico could only feel pity for the blond boy who looked like bambi in the operating room. As interns began to leave, people began to whisper.
“He’s a 007.”
“Yeah! Totally a 007.”
“What’s 007?” Juniper looked around, slightly confused. Nico, morbid as ever, kept his eyes trained on the surgeon operating as he told Juniper.
“License to kill.”
Hour 19
Jason sat in a wheelchair (that he most likely did not want to know where it had been) as he rolled the wheels back and forth complaining. He still couldn’t believe that he had frozen up like that. Not only that but he knew what the consequences of it was now.
“Everyone is calling me 007,” He complained, still embarrassed from his poor performance. Nico and Meg- both of whom were sick of his whining- answered at the same time.
“No one is calling you 007.”
“Really? A dude in the elevator whispered 007 and everyone started laughing!”
“007 is a state of mind,” Hazel called out as she waited by the old vending machine. It waited a bit too long for Hazel’s patience and thus she gave it a light kick to keep it going.
“Says the girl who finished first in her class at Stanford,” Jason retorted, pushing his glasses further up the bridge of his nose. Nico was enjoying this mindless banter, it was the first break he had in a while and it was relaxing to be able to not have to think critically for once. Of course, because fate hated Nico in particular, Nico’s pager beeped causing him to groan and accidentally bang his head as he pulled out his pager, causing his eyes to widen.
“Ah, fuck. Someone is paging me 911 on Katie Bryce, gotta go!”
Nico hopped off the spare stretcher he was on and practically ran towards the stairs desperate to get the patient's room. As Nico left, he let out a small snort of laughter for he heard Jason mumble,
“I should have gone into geriatrics- nobody minds when you kill an old person.”
Nico gasped for air as he walked into room 3604 and saw a perfectly healthy and fine Kate Bryce. What the hell? Did she lose the ability to talk? Because that wasn’t a 911, that was a thank the gods. He looked around for any crash cart or indicator that there was actually anything wrong with her.
“There’s nothing wrong with you?” He panted, feeling his anger bubble up. Katie simply shrugged, twirling her platinum blond hair that looked dyed.
“I’m bored.”
Nico gasped and face palmed- he just could not with this girl! Would giving her an early death count as breaking the hippocratic oath? Man, he really wanted to punch Hippocrates- making doctors swear a damn oath on Apollo!
“This is a hospital, people are dying, people who actually require a doctor's help! Go to sleep,” Nico explained, his voice raising slightly due to the interruption of his very calming break- he considered hearing Jason complain better than any sort of time spent with this patient. Katie, however, did not want to comply with what was being asked of her.
“I can’t sleep, my heads all full!” Katie whined slightly, throwing her head back softly against the propped up pillows.
“That's called thinking, go with it, maybe you’ll learn something new.”
Hour 21
Annabeth was happy right now. In this moment as she and Percy lay snuggled up against each other cuddling in the on call rooms, Annabeth was happy. She had to catch up on her sleep and Percy was a neurosurgeon- his surgeries were tiring and required him to be well rested (something that never happened either way) for him to perform at his best ability. She could hear Percy’s heart thumping under her ear as she lay with her head on his chest and one of her legs thrown on top of his. The sound and vibrations were comforting, relaxing, easing her to sleep- she was happy.
Juniper did not feel so happy right now. She was standing at the nurses station staring at the on - call room that she knew Dr Chase to be in. As she stood by the nurses station, a nurse leaning on the desk asked her what she wanted.
“Mr Anderson has chunky veins, he needs antibiotics and I should start a central line,” Juniper admitted, looking away. The nurse, not even glancing up from his chart simply told her,
“Then start one…”
Juniper's silence told him what he needed to know.
“...And you don’t know how to. You know what that means.” The nurse nodded his head towards the on call room where Dr Chase resided. Juniper had to physically restrain herself to stop herself from shivering. She was about to break Rule 3. She peeked her head into the dark on call room where she initially thought she was about to accidentally become scarred for life. However, what she saw surprised her. Dr Chase was soundfully asleep next to Dr Jackson. Their arms were intertwined with each other and Dr Jackson had one arm wrapped around Dr Chase’s waist. They looked so peaceful, Juniper was so tempted to walk out and just let Mr Anderson get a nice trip to the morgue but she didn’t want to end up being called something like 007. She took a deep breath.
“Dr chase, I don’t mean to bother you-”
“-Then don’t,” Annabeth snapped. She did not want to leave Percy, he was so warm and she wanted her damned sleep.
“It’s Mr Anderson,” Juniper started explaining.
“Is he dying?”
“No.”
“Then stop talking to me.” Annabeth rolled over so that her back was towards Juniper. Juniper cleared her throat slightly which caused Percy to jerk his arm. Annabeth huffed, clearly agitated.
“Next time you wake me, he better be so close to dead, there’s a tag on his toe.”
Hour 23
Nico was walking towards Katye Bryce’s room once again to check in on her. Hopefully, she had taken his advice and was soundly asleep by now. Yet, as Nico approached her room, he saw nurses running in and out of it- Nico picked up his pace until it was a run as he got into the room. Immediately, the nurses briefed him on what was going on.
“She’s having multiple Grand Mal seizures, now, how do you want to proceed? Dr Di Angelo, are you listening? We’ve given her diazepam, 2 milligrams of  Lorazepam- we just gave a second dose- Dr Di Angelo, you need to tell us what you want us to do!”
Nico was frozen. What in the name of Hades had happened while he was gone? He began to filter his thoughts-find out what's in her system and proceed from there.
“You gave her lorazepam?” he asked.
“Yep, 4 milligrams.”
“You’ve paged Chase and Jackson?”  He pushed.
“Lorazepam isn’t working!”
“Phenobarbital, 2 milligrams,” He blurted, remembering the drug from a chemistry quiz he had gotten completely correct due to Bianca’s old notes.
“Heart’s stopped!” a nurse called out. Nico’s brain called out Code Blue, Code Blue! But his mouth could not move. What was he doing? He normally acted on immediately in emergency situations- they were practically his reflexes. He had to focus. He closed his eyes for a second.
Focus Nico, focus- this girl is literally dead.
His eyes snapped open- he was still panicking but now that he had a second to think, he had a vague idea of what to do.
“Okay, start compressions- grab the crash cart. Charge the pads to 200.” Nico turned his head towards the nurse operating the charge value on the defibrillator.
“Clear!”
Katie Bryce’s jolted upwards, but her heart did not return to normal. The nurse opposite to Nico continued compressions on her body while the other nurse held an ambu bag to her face, squeezing it every 5 seconds to provide air for her lungs.
“Still V-Fib, no change,” the nurse commented.
“Charge to 300.”
“27 seconds since the heart stopped,” another Nurse informed.
“Charge to 360, C’mon Katie. Clear!” Nico waited to see if her heart would react.
“ Okay, restarting compressions,” He ordered as he tried to think of the next step in running a code.
“49 seconds since the heart stopped.”
“Charge again, Clear!”
Everyone in the room waited anxiously as the monitor returned to beeping normally.
“Sinus Rhythm.”
A collective sigh of relief was let out as people started filtering out.
at the hell happened?” Percy asked as he speed walked into the room. He couldn’t help feeling a bit useless as he found his patient that was dying only seconds ago, alive and well- only it wasn’t him who had saved her, it was Dr Di Angelo.
“She had a seizure and her heart stopped,” Nico explained, sighing gently now that Percy was here.
“You were supposed to be monitoring her.” Percy turned around to face Nico. Nico was not expecting the accusatory tone- sure he wasn’t expecting clap on the back either but a Oh hey for keeping her alive while I took ages to show up would have been nice. Nico had known Percy all his life but despite that, he had never seen such a cold, turned off side of him. Was this how doctors or surgeons did their jobs? Become cold to everyone around them? Nico tried to explain himself- the key word there being tried.
“I-”
“-Just go, I’ve got her now.” Dr Jackson batted his hand and Nico was dismissed. Nico felt dismissed. Was this the life of an intern? Being blamed for every small inconvenience so the attendings can feel less guilt on their backs? Nico didn’t do anything wrong- he followed protocol, just as he had been told. He ran the code and continually paged Dr Chase and Dr Jackson. Them not showing up was the issue here, not him. He had saved her life. Not them.
Nico’s mind felt dead. He was 23 hours into a 48 hour shift and already, he was feeling the pressure. Too much pressure- was there a point to this? Was there a point to any of this? Nico dragged his feet across the floor, trying to find the exit.
“When you get a 911, you page me immediately. If someone dies, it’s on my ass. You hear me? Di Angelo?” Dr Chase raised an eyebrow at the intern who practically ignored them as they walked to the exit door, ignoring everything around them. The interns, Jason and Hazel both noticed his abnormally pale face and dazed expression. Hazel, being the concerned sister she was, followed Nico as he started to gain speed towards the exit.
“Nico, are you okay?”She reached her arm out but Nico made no notice of her. He could feel his stomach become more and more uneasy. He leant against a pole with one hand and quickly threw up his lunch. He placed both of his hands on his thighs, remaining hunched over and trying to catch his breath. As he walked back towards the hospital, intending to go and wash his mouth out, he caught Hazel walking towards him with concern drawn all over her face.
“If you ever tell anyone…” Nico trailed off as he walked past her, entering the hospital again.
Hour 26
“You said it was a seizure disorder, now you’re saying it isn’t?” Mr Bryce, Katie’s father, asked with slight confusion. He stood by his wife's side, both his hands on his hips in a confrontive manner.
“I’m saying that I don’t know. For now, I don’t have an answer for you. Now that Katie is stable-” Dr Jackson started explaining only to be cut off by the father.
“-We came here because this hospital is supposed to be the best in New York. That's my kid in there and you have the audacity to stand here and say I don’t know. I want someone else , a doctor that knows what they’re doing. A doctor better than you!”
“Mr Bryce, I can assure you that I’m working hard on Katie’s case-” Dr Jackson tried to keep himself calm. He was working hard but sometimes the body did things that science couldn’t explain. He was a doctor, a surgeon, not god.
“- No, you’re not. If you were, you’d be able to give me some answers.”
Percy decided to leave the couple before he said something to them that he’d regret.
Dr Zhang was a calm, collected and highly skillful surgeon. He knew what he was doing as he explained the surgery to Mr Savitch.
“I put you on the bypass machine, which pumps blood for your heart, fix your ticker, take you off the machine- I’m done. Simple procedure.”
His wife -who was clutching her husband's hand so tightly her knuckles were turning white- asked Dr Zhang with a slightly relieved voice,
“So I have no reason to worry?”
“I’m very good at what I do but it’s still surgery- there are still some risks. I’ll see you in the Operating Room this afternoon Mr Savitch.” Frank waved his hand goodbye to the couple and left while Dr Grace stayed behind to reassure the patient.
“Dr Zhang is very good, you’ll be fine,” Jason confirmed.
“He’ll be fine right?” Mrs Savitch urged again, wanting a guarantee. Her eyes screamed Tell me my husband will live. Jason could not understand how she was feeling but he sympathised for her. He wanted to help her, he reminded him of his mother, a woman who worried often.
“Tony’s gonna sail through it- You have nothing to worry about Gloria - I promise.”
Hour 30
Nico had no idea why he was here- in fact, he had no idea why any of the interns were here. They had all been called to the briefing room for a conference yet at no point had he been informed what exactly it was about. He glanced to his right to see Hazel holding sutures with a banana laying on her lap.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m suturing a banana with the vain hope that it wakes up my brain,” Hazel drawled her hand raising up to tighten the perfectly spaced sutures together- something Nico too had the talent for. Their heads both shot up as Dr Jackson, with Dr Chase beside him, walked in. Dr Solace also walked in, catching Nico’s eye as he leaned with his back on the door frame.
“I’m gonna do something pretty rare for a surgeon. I’m gonna ask interns for help. Katie Bryce right now is a mystery- she isn't responding to medication. All the tests are clean but she’s having seizures, Grand mal seizures and we don’t know why. I need you to help me out,” all the interns sighed as Percy explained this.
“I know you’re tired, I know you’re busy which is why I’m gonna give you an incentive. Whoever finds the answer rides with me. Katie needs surgery- you get to do what no intern does. You get to scrub in to assist on an advanced procedure. Annabeth- I mean- Dr Chase will hand out the chart- The clock is ticking people. Let’s save a life,” Percy weakly smiled as he saw the eager interns scrambling for the files and gave Nico a wink as he left the room. Nico had to look down at his shoes to not blush- his crush on Percy had subsided years ago but what are you meant to do when people wink at you?
Will decided to tag along to the intern conference being held by Dr Jackson- he’d get a chance to see the interns working under incredible amounts of pressure and have a look at potential residents to take under his wing as trauma residents. At least, that's what he told himself. In reality, he had wanted to see the Italian doctor who had the guts to flirt with him and then invite him to bed. Was Will offended? Of course! Did this intern think he was that easy? While Will told himself that wasn’t easy, a small part of his subconscious told him that him showing up to the intern conference for one gorgeous man proved otherwise.
As Nico left the conference room, Hazel jogged to catch up with him- though Nico didn’t know why she was jogging, she had much longer legs than him.
“Hey, I want in on Jackson’s surgery- you've been the intern on her case since the start- you want to work together? If we find the answer, we have a 50/50 chance of scrubbing in ,” She offered.
“Sure, but I want in on the surgery.” Nico shrugged.
“So do I.”
“May the best surgeon scrub in,” Nico held out his hand for Hazel to shake. The game was on.
The locker room was full of several other interns- all of whom were re-reading Katie’s chart as if their lives depended on it. Hazel and Nico were hunched together by their lockers- which were co-incidentally placed next to each other. There were 6 empty cups of coffee- 4 were Hazels and 2 were Nico’s. Rainbow sweet strips, Nico’s pick of course, were also present- Hazel had to beg Nico for a pack as he had 3 to himself. Nico was so used to staying up for unnecessarily long hours that he didn’t need as much caffeine to keep himself acting like a live human being, unlike his sister.
“So she doesn't have anoxia, chronic renal failure or acidosis. It’s not a tumor because the CT was clean,” Hazel confirmed.
“What about infection?” Nico suggested as he savagely bit into a rainbow gummy strip, ripping it away from his face causing sugar sprinkles to fly everywhere. Hazel shot him a look as she brushed them off her scrubs.
“No , there’s no white count, she has no C.T lesions, no fevers, nothing in her spinal tap.”
“What about an aneurysm?”
“No blood on the C.T, no headaches, no drug use, no pregnancy, no trauma. Nico, what if this girl dies?”
“This is gonna sound really bad but I really wanted that surgery,” Nico confessed before continuing, “Her pageant talent is rhythmic gymnastics. What even is rhythmic gymnastics? I can’t even say it properly, I don’t know what it is!”
“Oh come on, they have pageant talents?” Hazel started snorting with laughter with Nico joining only a mere matter of seconds later.  Rhythmic gymnastics- a totally odd and dangerous pageant talent. Why not go with knitting, there’s a less chance of falling.
A less chance of falling.
Nico’s brain raced- something about that was relevant- vital even. Why did that sound so important?
Nico shot up, grabbing his sister by the arm. He thought he knew what was wrong with Katie.
“Get up, come on. Come on!” Nico whisper- shouted as he grabbed Hazel who asked him what the hell he was on about. He told her about Katie’s fall during practise for rhythmic gymnastics when she had sprained her ankle- the chance of a small aneurysm to form.
“The only thing that she would possibly need is an angiogram,” Hazel realised as they both rushed out to find Dr Jackson. They found him in the elevator ,alone, and just as the door started closing, Hazel stuck her hand in the way of the door. Immediately she started talking.
“She has no headaches, no neck pain, her C.T is clean- there’s no medical proof of an aneurysm but what if she has one anyway?”
“How?” Percy questioned, slightly confused.
“You see she twisted her ankle and fell. Just a bump on her head. It was so minor that her primary care doctor didn’t think to mention it in her history but there's a chance, right, Perce?” Nico almost begged, using the childhood nickname he used to call Percy, that he used to call his best friend. That is what he was doing at that moment- asking for his best friend to listen, not Dr Jackson.
“You know there’s a one in a million chance of that, literally,” Percy sighed, shaking his head. The siblings hung their heads as the situations settled- their diagnosis was getting shut down or so they thought it was. The lift opened and there stood Percy smiling. He waved his hands, signalling them to follow him.
“Let's go find out if Katie is one in a million.”
Hazel and Nico were both silent as they waited in the cath lab- this was it for them. Either they become a pair of fools and Nico would tarnish the Di Angelo name or they get to be the first interns out of their year to assist on an advanced procedure. Percy stood with his arms folded, his black hair tousled and his jaw muscle ticking like crazy- Nico could also see that he was stressed although who for, Nico could not tell.
“I’ll be damned. It's minor but it’s there- a subarachnoid hemorrhage. She’s bleeding into her brain,” Percy gasped slightly as he pointed his pen to the small black blobs on the screen. As they left the Cath Lab, Hazel and Nico were ready. They wanted to know who was getting the surgery- sure, they had agreed that the best surgeon would win but secretly, they had both hoped that they’d both be able to scrub it.
“Uh, Dr Jackson, you said that the intern who brought the diagnosis would be able to scrub in,” Hazel gently reminded, her eyes hopeful and full of yearning.
“Unfortunately, I can’t have you both so Nico, you’re scrubbing in.”
Nico was over the moon- His first surgery was going to be with Percy and he was going to assist! However Hazel both looked and felt distraught. She knew she should feel more happy for her brother but she couldn’t help but feel a slight sliver of jealousy that he had only been chosen because Nico and Percy were childhood friends. As Nico turned around to apologise for her, he saw that she had already left without him.
Hour 34
Jason was in the scrub room waiting for Dr Zhang to finish up the surgery on Mr Savitch. Was he nervous? Of course, but he was also confident in Dr Zhang's skills as a surgeon. He was sipping a soda while charting, leaning with his back to the operating room- he didn’t want to get distracted by the surgery happening behind him. The door swung open with a Whack and Dr Zhang walked in, looking dejected.
“That was quick, wow!” Jason said admirably- he knew Dr Zhang was good, but he didn’t think he could complete a surgery like that so fast!
“He didn’t make it. His heart had too much damage to get him off bypass- I had to let him go. It’s rare but it happens. It’s the worst part of the game,” Frank confessed as he washed his hands and splashed water onto his face, making him feel slightly more alive. Unlike Jason who swore his extremities went numb.
This couldn’t be, right? Surely this was a prank- everyone would play a prank on him, he was the 007! He would walk into the operating room and see the nurses preparing to move him back to the ICU for post surgery care. Yes, yes that’s what this was- a whole prank. Dr Zhang was probably punishing him for almost killing a person in surgery and this was his equivalent of karma. Despite the idea, when Jason turned around, he regretted everything he saw. There was blood on the floor, the patient was still wide open, the heart monitor which was still attached to the patient showed no sign of cardiac activity. Jason could feel a lump in his throat, a lump that he just couldn’t swallow. Hos throat was dry and there were tears pricking at the corner of his eyes as he attempted to speak.
“B..but I told his wife Gloria that he would be fine- I promised her tha-”
“You what? The only person who can give a promise like that is God and I haven’t seen him holding a scalpel lately. You never promise a patient's family a good outcome!”Frank, in a rare moment of no self control, lashed out. Jason, who realised his mistake, decided to leave Dr Zhang to mourn what he considered his failure and inform the family of their greatest loss.
Frank slumped over the sink in the scrub room, rubbing at his head. He had never failed something so simple, how did he not foresee this? His fists clenched and relaxed as his mind went over the events of the surgery- he had never felt so much like a failure in his life as he did in this moment right now.
As Jason approached the family, he could see their cheerful, happy faces, completely unaware of the soul- crashing news that he was about to bring them. Gloria ,who noticed him on instinct, immediately smiled wider- she thought she was going to go see her husband now. His kids had no idea what was about to happen to their lives. Jason still had the lump in his throat that was only getting bigger. He had to swallow several times which was a struggle because of his dry throat.
“How is he?” Gloria rushed her words out and it seemed she seemed more excited than nervous. Jason swallowed heavily before starting.
“Gloria, there were complications regarding your husband's surgery. Tony’s heart had a lot of damage. We tried to take him off bypass but- there wasn’t anything we could have done.”
Jason’s hands wrung back and forth as he struggled to keep his eyes from watering. He could feel them stinging as he fought back the tears of his betrayal
Gloria’s face scrunched up before slowly falling. Jason could see how her face slowly morphed from one of pure happiness to one of panic and distraught but Jason could also see the hope in her eyes.
“What are you talking about?” Gloria’s voice broke slightly, her lip curling.
“Tony died. He’s dead… Gloria, I am so sorry.” Jason reached out to comfort her, his hand reaching to stroke her back only for Gloria to completely flinch away from his touch. Betrayal illustrated her face and Jason couldn’t bear to continue looking her in the eye.
“Please, go away.”
Jason had undergone a lot of tough, painful situations to become a doctor and yet, this is what broke him.
Hour 40
Percy was shaving Katie’s head, watching the blond tufts of hair fall off her face. Nico walked in, smirking as he leant against the door. On noticing Nico’s presence, he began to whisper,
“I promised to give her a cool haircut. Apparently it’s a scandal to be a bald beauty queen.”
“Ah, well, I would totally pull it off..” Nico reached towards his hair and pushed it back slightly. Percy laughed slightly and nodded in agreement before they fell into a comfortable silence- the only sound being the buzzing from the electric razor. Nico watched Percy with admiration in eyes and Percy would look up at him every once in a while with a genuine smile that made his eyes crease.
Will was watching Percy and Nico hanging out in room 3604, an odd feeling of spite towards Percy starting to form. He didn’t know why- Percy had always been a good friend to him, helping him earn the respect of his peers. He watched as Nico watched Percy and suddenly felt the urge to accept Nico’s offer.
“I do hope that you aren’t staring at Di Angelo,” Leo walking up behind him commented dryly.
“Lover boy, you can’t really talk. Last time I checked, you seemed to be physically unable to keep your eyes off Calypso,” Will muttered in response. Leo gasped in mock offense before laughing.
“Awww, are you two sharing ‘we are going to single forever’ moment?” Piper cooed. Will grunted slightly - while Piper defended Will in public she totally teased him when there weren’t as many people and as for her and Leo- well they had known each other since they were teenagers.
“I’d like to escape the single lot, thank you for the offer though, pipes,” Frank sighed as he joined the group of them. His mood was still down due to losing his patient- he couldn’t help feel overwhelming guilt for not saving a patient with such an easy procedure.
Percy came out of the room, chatting away with Nico before he spotted the group of attendings who were all staring at them. He raised an eyebrow at all of them, especially since they weren’t trying to be subtle in any way.
“Yall, get back to work.”
The operating room was a tad warm. Or maybe that was Nico sweating due to his nervous nature. He couldn’t afford to screw up here, he had made it so far in only a few hours and had worked hard. Dr Jackson walked in with his trident and sea print scrub cap on his head before he looked around the room.
“All right everybody. Are we ready? Okay, Scalpel,” He held his hand out as he ordered a scalpel into his hand. Nico who was on his tip- toes to see what was going on for he was not sure if he could come any closer- neurosurgeons were scary people sometimes. Percy, who was ecstatic and in a great mood, gestured for Nico to come closer.
“Nico, come take a look. Your sister would absolutely love this,” Percy gushed and for once, Nico completely agreed as he looked at a live human brain.
Hour 48
It was finally time to head out. Nico was relieved- his eyeliner ,which was perfectly done the morning he came in, needed re-applying and he wanted to put his heeled boots back on. He was sick of everyone being taller than him. He was in the locker room after finishing the surgery and quickly he changed. He felt much better once he was back in his own clothes. Black ripped jeans, fingerless gloves, Ramone t-shirt and his beloved heeled boots.  He stood in the mirror finishing off his eyeliner as Hazel walked in.
“We don’t have to do the thing where I say something and then you do and then somebody cries and then there’s a moment-” she started
“Yuck,” Nico cut in. Hazel smiled ever so slightly but Nico noticed it, causing him to attempt to repress a smile. The key word there being attempt.
 “Good.”
Nico was looking for Percy- he wanted to thank him for the amazing surgery and for picking him to scrub in. He was about to enter the on call room that he assumed Percy to be in when he accidentally walked into someone. That someone just so happened to be Dr Solace. Except he was shirtless.
Why the fuck was he shirtless? Is there someone in there with him? Oh my god, was I hitting on a straight dude?
“Ah, sorry about that. I was changing when I realised my clean clothes were in my locker,” Will confessed sheepishly as he rubbed the back of his head. But Nico wasn’t really paying attention to anything that came out his mouth but rather his lips. Wait, why was he shirtless again? Nico had an internal panic for about 2 seconds before he pulled himself together and remembered his objective around Dr Solace.
“If  I’m correct Solace, that surgery went very well,” Nico smirked.
If your first surgery goes well, then feel free to send that draft out again.
Nice one Nico, you got this.
Will opened his mouth, slightly in shock that Nico had still remembered that by now- sure it was 41 hours ago but most interns just wanted to sleep  by now. But This was a Di Angelo he was talking about- surgery ran in their blood.
“Well congratulations. I caught the draft. What are you going to do about it, Di Aneglo?” Will challenged quite confidently, Nico’s surname rolling off his tongue.  Nico started walking towards him, backing him into the oncall room. The second they were both in there, Nico’s hand reached behind him and locked the door with a flick of his wrist.
“Copy me,” Nico told Will. He raised one of his arms and then the other, watching as Will copied, slightly confused by the random motion. He then put both his hands together above his head and the second Will copied, Nico pinned Will’s hands above his head with a single hand and smiled wickedly. Will, adequately impressed, leaned his head forward to kiss Nico who obliged.
Explosions.
That's what Nico felt. He wasn’t expecting Will to be such a good kisser. The kiss was soft at first, their breath dancing across each other's lips but became more heated as Will tried to shift his hands out of Nico’s reach. Nico, being stubborn as he was, refused.  Will bit Nico’s lip gingerly, teasing him as he pulled his lip back slightly between his teeth- the second Nico groaned gently, Will used all the momentum he had to flip them and press Nico against the door, holding one of his wrists in his hand. He reached to grab the other and hold it above Nico’s head as their lips smashed. When Will finally pulled back for air, he started making light butterfly kisses onto Nico’s jawline, making his way down to Nico’s neck. He gently sank his teeth and lightly sucked on the flesh there, making Nico throw his head back and let out a light moan.
Nico decided that he could thank Percy for the surgery later.
Hazel was waiting for Nico. She was outside the hospital and was watching as all the other interns were leaving and finally he arrived. His clothes were a mess- crumpled, his t- shirt was completely inside out and there was a bruise on his neck.  Hazel had no idea what had happened and honestly, she didn’t want to. Nico waved to her, pulling out a cigarette from his pocket and lighting it.
“Finally! Gosh, we need to go if you want to get there on time!” Hazel fussed.
Annabeth and Percy were holding hands as they chatted away with Piper and Reyna- their faces all in an animated conversation despite being awake for 48 hours.
“And then I totally clipped that aneurysm,” Percy boasted, swinging Annabeth's hand up in the air with his.
Frank was meant to be paying attention to the conversation he was supposed to be having with Leo- who was excitedly talking about the life saving surgery that he did with Calypso as the Peds and OB department had to team up for that case. However, Frank was actually looking at Hazel as he started telling off Nico for the smoking near a hospital.
“It was a really cool case- the mother was teen in the third trimester which meant Peds had to work with OB. The baby had a tight nuchal cord so the delivery had to be performed by C- section so we could safely clamp and cut off the umbilical cord,” Leo ranted.
Thalia was rustling the blond hair of her younger brother as they got into a car, talking about their days.
“Who cares, 007 was totally badass!” Thalia told her brother as she started the car. Piper waved goodbye to Percy, Annabeth and Reyna, and leaned against one of stumps while she waited for Will. When Will finally arrived, his hair was an absolute mess and he had a few buttons of his shirt undone which gave view for a bruise blooming on his collarbone. Piper decided not to make much comment of it as they both started walking away. Will turned his head to see Nico one more time, only to see him laughing and kissing the head of a girl with dark skin and beautiful curly hair. Terror and unease immediately set within him.
Did I just help him cheat on his girlfriend?
Will decided to push the thought to the back of his mind as he left the hospital.
Nico was stalling. He knew it and so did Hazel. She had pulled up at the nursing home but he was still drumming his fingers on his lap as he sat in the car. After 10 minutes of pure silence, Nico got out of the car, the only sound made being the soft closing of the car door. He walked up the steps before entering the home. It was well lit, elegant and classy- he knew if Bianca was lucid that she’d love it here. He walked towards the window seat, knowing that she always loved to sit there. He took a gentle seat next to her, waiting for her to  notice him  nearby. When she finally acknowledged him, she looked at him and up and down, slightly confused.
“Are you the doctor?”Bianca asked, her eyes wide.
“No, I’m not your doctor but I am a doctor,” Nico attempted a smile but it failed with corners of his lips falling slightly. Biance wrung her hands back and forth, fidgeting with them subconsciously. The nails that used to be flawless were now chipped and bitten at.
“What's your name?”she turned her head towards him, tilting it slightly as she looked her brother in the eye.
“It’s me, sis. It’s Nico,” He said half heartedly, his voice cracking as his eyes followed hers, trying to somehow get to her lucid mind. He saw her eyes. He saw her how they looked at him, how she didn’t recognise him. Her eyes, they weren’t the same golden brown that gleamed, they were glossy- as if there were clouds covering the clear sky.
“I think I used to be a doctor,” Bianca mused as she continued to rub her hands aggressively. Nico reached out to stop her, hoping she wouldn't flinch or become aggressive. He held her hand in his, enveloping his hand over hers and she accepted the gesture. Just for a second, Nico could see his sister again.
“You were a doctor. You were a surgeon.”

Cold Snap: Chapter 1
I’m back, again, hopefully a bit more consistently. This time returning to the world of Anna Swift with a story that’s been an idea for almost 2 years but couldn’t quite come together.  No resus in this part, just setting up the scene, but I hope you enjoy.
----------
Shona dragged her large suitcase up the ramp and onto the lower deck of the old water taxi. It had become almost like an old friend to her over the last few years, the point of seperation between home and college. She turned and waved to her parents, who stood back on the quay, watching thier daughter leave for the last semester of her college life. In truth she wasn't going all that far. Only a dozen or so miles as the crow flies, and within the limits of the same greater city area. But while the city had grown and expanded to absorb her old home town as a mere suburb, the city's transport links had not kept pace. While the rail network ran along each side of the river, it didn't cross at this end of the city. There were plans for new bridges, but they never materialised. And so, instead of taking a 3 hour trip on the city metro, Shona would take the trusty water taxi that had been crossing the river back and forth for as long as her mother remembered, and be at her dorm within 40 minutes.
A good idea really, she thought, pulling on the suitcase behind her, trying to get it rolling again. She cursed internally at her professors for giving them so much work over the spring break, the suitcase weighed down with what felt like half a library. A gust of cold wind blasted her face, and she thought of another curse, this one at the northern climate. To many, spring break was about running around on beaches nearly naked having parties and getting tanned. To say it would not be advisable here was an understatement. This far north, winter was still clinging on, to the point where snow lay on the ground just a few weeks ago.
Shona pulled her scarf up a little further as she dragged the suitcase toward the door at the rear of the cabin, where luggage could be stowed out of the way. She pushed it open then spun to grip the suitcase handle with both hands and haul it over the small threshold, staggering back a little as the wheels finally rocked over. A gust of wind sucked the door closed with a loud bang and shone flinched, glancing around to see if anyone noticed. Like public transport in most cities, no one so much as glanced at her.
She ducked into the luggage area, and her heart sank. All the lower shelves were full. She walked over, wondering just how she was going to stow the case. She vaguely heard the door behind her, then the sound of rolling wheels that approached and stopped beside her.
"Erm, would you like a hand?" A male voice said. Shone turned to him. He was young, maybe a similar age to herself, with black hair in that intentionally messy style. He raised his hands in a surrendering gesture. "Not infering anything about the strength of your gender...You just looked... and I need to..." He glanced at his own case, similar sized to hers.
Shona shook her head "Sorry, yes that would be great." She smiled. "We can each lift half." She commented, prompting a grin from the young man. Together they lifted her bag. Well, Shona steadied it at least.
"Student?" The young man asked, with a slight pant from the effort. Shona nodded, and opened her mouth to reply. "Wait, let me try and guess. Your on this taxi, so you must be studying at Central. That amount of books, over spring break no less, narrows it down. Medical students are already back, my roomate's doing Chem and says all the natural sciences work is based on their own labs now. And, I haven't seen you in any of my classes or on my floor of the library, so by process of elimination I'm going to say... History."
"Impressive." Shona told him with a grin. "You must be studying literature." She grinned at his shocked face. "My roommate is in that course. She can almost quote the entire works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle at this point, and she told me that almost everyone goes through a Sherlock phase in that course."
He chuckles. "Well played. I must know the name of the lady who bested me." He said, with a mock bow.
Shona couldn't help but chuckle too, though it was drowned out by the horn of the water taxi, as it gave it's last call. Shona felt the familiar rumble as the engine got into gear and began to ramp up in power. "Shona. Shona Smith-Carlson. Yes it's double barrelled. Ardent Feminist of a mother refused to give up her maiden name."
"Well theres nothing wrong with that. Though by the look on your face you aren't too happy it."
"It's not that," Shona shrugs. "She just never shuts up about it. Still loves dad though." She trails off, the silence starting to become awkward. "What about you?" She re-directs. "I'm guessing your name isn't actually Sherlock."
He smiles. "Jack Davidson. Not literally, My dad's actually called Mark."
"You must have practiced that line." Shona said, trying not to laugh at the perfect delivery.
"Maybe once or twice, but it's a good ice breaker, don't you think?"  He replied with another dazzling smile.
It was a nice smile. The boat jerked slightly as it left the quay and started its journey across the river. Shona rocked a little, Jacks arm moved, lifting a little, not quite reaching out, but ready to steady her if she had stumbled, and Shona suddenly realised he was flirting. Why did this always happen? She fought to not roll her eyes. Her girlfriend was going to rib her again. She would have to let him down gently. She took off her scarf, wrapping it and putting it into one pocket, and then unzipped her coat. She caught his eyes flick down as all men’s do, then slightly to one side, catching sight of the rainbow badge.
He blew out a breath, then nodded with a wry grin. "That's a good move. I am out played once again. Though I suppose we aren't quite playing the same game are we."
Shona shrugged. "Sorry." She mumbled.
Jack waved his hand. "Don't be. Not like you can change who you are. How about we get my bag stowed and then we grab a coffee on the upper deck?" Shona looked at him, puzzled. "Your roommate. From what you were saying she's a year ahead of me. A bit of early information is always good."
Shona considered it for a moment. He wasn't being pushy or angry like one of those guys. And she was planning on getting a coffee. So she shrugged. "Why not, company is always nice."
Together they lifted Jack's case, a little lighter than her own, and placed it in the rack. But as he was checking it was secure, Shona felt a rumble. A different rumble, one that she had never felt before on over two dozen journeys. If she'd been outside, she would have seen a plume of black smoke rise out the tall exhaust stack. If she'd been in the cabin that qualified as the bridge of the boat, she'd have heard voices filled with panic as alarms squarked.
Shona and Jack started up the stairs in front of the luggage compartment, when there was another rumble, and a strange noise filled the passenger cabin as the whole ship vibrated. Shona stopped halfway up the stairs, looking behind her. Jack turned to her, three steps higher up.
"What is it?" He asked
Shona shook her head "The boat. Somethings wr..."
Her voice was totally drowned out by the noise of the engine exploding.
**********
Officer Matt Jones sat on the small river patrol boat, bobbing slightly against it's mooring. He glanced at his watch. Just another 7 hours and 50 minutes of his 8 hour shift. He sighed, feeling that boiling anger as he rembered getting busted down to river patrol. Not even standard beat cop, river patrol. In March, in this city, where even the foolish wouldn't think of getting in the river. Only the desperate. But this section of the river didn't even have any bridges, ruling that out too.
"So..." The old timer, Winston, who was now his partner muttered. "Who did you piss off to land yourself here?"
Jones breathed out slowly, sending the anger with it. "You know Dean Campbell?"
"The head of HR Dean Campbell?" Jones nodded, Winston whistled. "What did you do?"
"I may have pointed out that he was... inadequate for the position. In somewhat more forceful terms. To his face..."
Winston spat into the river. "That would do it. Not that you are wrong of course, that little weasel has done nothing but damage to the department, but, not exactly the wisest decision.
Jones nodded. "What about you?"
"I asked to be here." Winston replied, prompting a look from Jones. "Coming up on retirement. The last thing I wanted was to be that stereotype. Always liked fishing, figured I'd get some boat time and avoid anything likely to finish me off before my service is done."
"That's fair enough I guess." Jones told him, sipping at the coffee, watching the old water taxi make it's way across the river. He noticed the black smoke, but thought nothing of it. "Does anything interesting happen here?"
"Wouldn't have picked this spot if it did." Winston replied. "Occasionally that floating wreck needs a hand when it breaks, but that's about it." He says turning to look. "Speking of which, that exhaust don't look too healthy." He said a moment before the radio squarked, lighting up an indicator on the emergency channel.
"This is the Beetle, may-day, may-day, our engine is...." The radio cut off as a gout of thick black smoke burst from the exhaust tube, and the distant boat seemed to lurch. A split second later the sound wave of the explosion reached them.
"Get us moving!" Jones shouted to Winston, as he grabbed at his own radio. "This is officer Jones, Badge number 4582. We have a major incident in progress on the river between....between..."
"Between North Inglebank and Trippers point!" Winston shouted.
"Between North Inglebank and Trippers point. Explosion on a water taxi, we are en-route, unknown casualties, unknown situation, requesting additional backup for evacuation and medical assistance!"
"Acknowledged Officer Jones. Relaying now."
Winston had gotten the speed boat unmoored, tossing a high-vis life jacket to Jones, before he gunned the motor and they began to cut through the waves, heading for the vessel that was now smoking from more than just the exhaust.
(Edit: Fixed some errors and details. A little out of practice.)

sorry to bother but i have a request, could you write a peter parker! x reader, with the reader being the protégé or adopted daughter of the strange doctor? I searched a lot but I didn't find
Must be magic.
Peter Parker x Strange!Reader
Requested: Yes by @celenajulie
A/N: hope you enjoy this! I tried my best- and there will be a part 2 out soon, where Y/N introduces Peter to her dad, stay safe out there! Xx
Tumblr media
Y/N never knew her birth parents, she had only been a mere few hours old when she had been left outside of a New York orphanage.
The owners took her in, fed her and let her grow. She was a generally happy baby.
Until one day, a few months later, Y/N took a turn for the worst. She was no longer that happy girl with the gummy smile, she wasn’t herself.
She slept more, she cried more, she vomited more despite eating less and she didn’t interact with the social workers at the house like she used to. She just wasn’t herself.
Soon they found out why. Y/N had a brain tumour, the doctors called it pineoblastoma.
It was rare, it was aggressive and it was killing the young infant- causing her to waste away.
There were several options, the majority of which were expensive and risky. The staff at the orphanage were considering placing Y/N into the care of a hospice.
After all, time was limited and their options were coming to dead ends. What else could they do? They needed a miracle, a doctor something magical if Y/N was to survive and thrive again.
-
Christine Palmer loved her job, she loved the idea of caring and helping those who needed her support.
It didn’t matter what age, gender, sexuality or race someone was- she tried 110% to help them to the best of her ability.
Some said that she cared too much, Christine opted towards the fact that compassion was key in the medical industry. And anyone who lacked it, wasn’t cut out for this line of work.
Compassion was what lead Christine to Y/N.
God- she could still remember the first time she’d met the tiny girl.
It had been in the early hours of the morning, the rain had been hammering down for hours and all had been relatively quiet in ER.
Christine remembered going to the vending machine in the waiting room on her break, in hopes to get a snack.
What she hadn’t expected was to become involved in a small dispute. There had been a small altercation that she had decided to step in between.
It seemed to of been between one of the ladies at the front desk and a tall, slender woman- who Christine had at first assumed to be a wife or parent of a patient.
It wasn’t until the young woman inquired why the argument had begun that she finally understood and jumped into action.
“It’s one of the children that I care for, Y/N- last month we were here and she was diagnosed with a brain tumour, we’ve been getting treatment but she’s taken a turn for the worse.”
It was almost immediately that Nurse Palmer jumped into action and called for support on her pager.
It took mere seconds for a doctor to come forward with the required equipment and a portable bassinet to wheel the baby away in.
But there was a nagging feeling in the back of Christine's head, she needed to call him. Just to be sure, to get support and a second opinion.
Without a second thought, she picked her phone from her scrub pocket and pressed the dial button, it rang for a second before a voice chimed through the other side.
“Christine it’s two in the morning.”
“You owe me that favour- come to the hospital now, I need support on a patient’s case.”
“I’m on my way.”
“Okay.” She paused, licking her lips. “And Stephen- thank you.”
-
It had been an ongoing gag between Stephen and Christine that he owed her a favour.
Ever since the incident in med school, Stephen vowed to give his friend one favour- whenever she needed it, whatever it was- he would be there.
That was why he was getting dressed into his scrubs at 2:30 in the morning (when his next shift didn’t start for another day) in order to help Christine with whatever it was she needed.
When Stephen arrived at the hospital he rushed to where Christine said to meet, Paediatric intensive care unit.
He strolled in, finding Christine sat on a chair next to a tiny infant, no less than a few months old, who was covered in fresh wires.
“She has pineoblastoma.” She explained softly, “You’re the only one I know who can operate and get positive results on this sort of thing.”
Stephen nodded, formulating a plan in his head as he read the baby’s case file.
The poor child had been through a lot in her first few months of life it seemed.
And the doctor didn’t know it yet - but he would soon become her proper family, and give her the life she deserved.
-
It was weird being the daughter of a master of the mystic realm. Like really weird. Nothing was ever ‘normal’ in her life.
Travelling to the grocery store? Her dad would simply use his sling ring.
Wouldn’t get out of bed? The cloak of levitation would drag her out if her dad willed it.
Wanted a slice of pizza? Sure- Wong would just conjure one up.
She lived in the New York Sanctum Sanctorum for crying out loud that didn’t exactly scream normal!
The only thing that may have been normal was her school life, Midtown school of science was perfect for Y/N.
She took after her father on that, she was smart and bright and loved to learn.
In fact, there had been many occasions growing up that she had been caught under the covers, flashlight in hand, reading her dad's old medical school textbooks.
But just because she was bright, didn’t mean that she made friends easily. Being smart often meant she was teased by her peers- it didn’t help that her last name was Strange either.
She had some friends on the debate team (MJ being one of them) and she talked to Peter and Ned too sometimes.
But half the time Y/N avoided it, after all, she’d rather not listen to her long term crush go on and on about how he loved the most popular girl in school.
It was painful- that stuff hurt. And every time she thought she’d taken a step forwards toward him he’d take three more back.
“Miss Strange?”
Y/N focused back in on the whiteboard, in front of which stood the extremely unimpressed bio teacher.
“Pardon?”
“The answer Miss Strange?” The teacher turned around, marker poised ready to write down her answer on the board for the class to see.
Thankfully MJ was up to date and mouthed the question number across the room. Looking down at the sheet in front of her she found the relevant question.
‘Name an example of a gene pool.’
“A population with a known proportion of A, B and O blood groups would be an example of a relevant gene pool.”
The teacher looked unimpressed at the fact that Y/N had been ‘listening’, “That is correct.” He cleared his throat, “Now before this lesson ends, I will be handing out these assignment sheets that are to be used for your upcoming projects- yes, you will be doing them with your lab partner. No-you cannot switch.”
Fuck that meant Peter was going to be Y/N’s partner. Double fuck. That meant spending time alone with him.
While Y/N pondered in her doom, the lunch bell rang and everyone moved around her as they packed up and left the classroom.
“Hey erm Y/N?”
The teenager’s head snapped up, only to come face to face with Peter.
“Peter!” She yelped, “Hi.”
The boy laughed breathily, “Hi, listen since we’re buddy’s on this project i was wondering when you were next free- Y’know to do the project?”
Y/N tucked some stray hairs behind her ears, “Oh I’m free whenever,” she ripped the corner of one of her pages off and scribbled down her number, “This is my number in case you need to call me.”
“Cool,” Peter rubbed the back of his neck nervously, “I should get going- it was nice talking.”
“Yeah of course,” she nodded happily, “I’ll see you later.”
Mere minutes later there was a beep coming from Y/N’s pocket, she fished around in her pocket in an attempt to find her phone.
‘Hey this is peter, are you free to make a start on the project afterschool?’
She typed a quick response back, ‘Sure, where were you thinking?’
‘The library is probably most convenient right?’
‘Okay cool, I’ll see you later.’
By the end of the day, Y/N found herself practically bouncing at the idea of spending time with Peter alone.
She’d managed to snag a table and the required textbooks that they’d need. But minutes turned into hours and there was no sight of the boy that Y/N was falling for.
He’d stood her up.
Or at least that’s what Y/N had initially thought. but as the clock struck half-past five, she was aware that it was time she made her way home.
Despite his no show, the bright girl was almost entirely finished with the first half of the project.
She was in the process of exiting the library’s doors when she heard the familiar laugh paired with a high pitched giggle.
“Seriously though- Thanks for helping me with Chem.” The female voice countered, “I’d be lost without you.”
Y/N was flat backed to the cool, red bricks that made up the library building. Listening in to what was being said.
“No problem Liz,” Peter laughed nervously, Y/N could almost imagine the awkward neck rub that he did whenever he laughed like that, “I really enjoyed it- I-I’m glad I could help.”
So it was Liz that Peter stood her up with. Ouch- that stung.
The sorcerer's daughter felt tears drip down her cheeks, she sniffled quietly and kicked off the wall brushing past Peter and Liz briskly.
But all she could hear was Peter’s voice calling behind her. Shouting desperately for her to stop and let him explain.
But she did what she knew best, she went home to her family.
-
The next few days fell victim to the onslaught of messages that Peter sent to Y/N via text.
Even the sounds of her phone buzzing were beginning to set Y/N on edge. Especially since she knew that the notification coming through would be from Peter, begging to let him ‘explain.’
But once more in true Strange fashion, Y/N worked and worked and worked. Until the bio project was finished- almost four weeks in advance.
The way she saw it was that If the work had been completed, then there was no real to hang out with Peter ever again.
He, however, didn’t seem to have the same idea. As 3 weeks later on Monday, Peter had resorted to cornering the girl in the school's supply closet.
He didn’t want to do it, but Y/N gave him no choice. Peter had to explain himself.
“Peter- what the hell?” Y/N yelped, she was beyond pissed at this point.
“You haven’t been returning my texts and calls,” he shrugged, “I need to explain myself.”
“Like hell you do.” She spat, “Look it doesn’t matter, I’ve finished the damn project- we don’t need to see each other again.”
Peter looked shocked and there was hurt in his eyes, “Y/N...”
“What do you want me to say, Peter? That I’m not hurt?” She pursed her lips to stop the tears from leaking, “You left me for hours in the library all while you were having fun with Liz- how is that fair?”
“Please don’t cry,” He whispered, pulling her into his body in an embrace, “I can’t stand it when you cry.”
“You left me alone Peter!” She fought against his embrace, “Like everyone in my life!”
Peter held Y/N against him, rubbing her back and shushing her. Trying anything to bring her calm.
“I got nervous.”
Y/N lifted her head, “What?”
“I got nervous- I’ve- I’ve liked you for forever y’know. I was outside the library for 10 minutes willing myself to go in.” He laughed softly, “But every time I saw you sat there- I just froze.”
The young girl looked up in shock, “But-But Liz?”
“I was about to get reprimanded for loitering, she got me out of the situation. I was going to call you but my phone died.”
Y/N didn’t realise how close together they were until their foreheads touched and their noses bumped.
It felt like her heart was about to beat out of her chest. It was ironic really because when they finally met in a kiss it felt like all time had stopped.
She could feel every touch on her cheeks, his hair and how it ran through her fingers, how minty he smelt. Everything stood still and for a few moments, you had everything you’d ever wanted in the palm of your hand.
What Y/N had failed to notice was the glowing golden portal that had appeared in the supply closet- even worse the thoroughly unimpressed man standing through it.
“Y/N Strange you are so dead!”
“Shit!”

Legally Ginger - Prologue (PG-13, Romione)
Now, for something totally different...
Title: Legally Ginger
Chapter 1/9
Rating: PG-13 (I use fuck more than the MPAA allows for PG-13 but that's a stupid rule - there's no explicit content)
Pairing: Romione endgame
Summary: When Ron Weasley's college girlfriend declines his proposal because he doesn't meet her standard for future husband, he decides comes up with a plan to let her see him in a new light.
Notes: This is an AU Muggle reimagination of Legally Blonde. It's very different than anything I have ever written - and my first chapter story. I intend to update each Monday.
Thank you to adnei for all of her beta feedback!
While I really enjoy Legally Blonde, it has some things that need a bit of updating or calling out in the year 2021. This fic will attempt to do those things but not lose the fun and fluffiness of the concept.
Also... I love the pop culture/time capsule references of the movie so plan to see that same vibe in this fic. If any of them are unclear to you, let me know in the comments because I love to talk pop culture!
Finally, lots of our favorites are scheduled to appear throughout the story - I eagerly anticipate all guesses as to who will be who!
Disclaimer: Neither Harry Potter or Legally Blonde or any of their characters are owned by me and are not being used for profit.

“Hey Tim!” Ron Weasley shouted, raising his hand to greet the guy behind the coffee cart but not breaking his stride.
“Hey Ron! Thanks for that recommendation. She loved it!”
Ron grinned and kept on running his recreational route that wove through the Los Angeles campus of California University. Even though his cross country career had come to an end with the conclusion of his senior season this fall, he didn’t intend to let his personal records slip. In fact, he was almost working harder. If everything went according to plan tonight, he planned to be competing in the iconic Boston Marathon next April.
“Ron! We still on to study tomorrow?” shouted his chem lab partner Kelsey as he strode past her.
“Yep! We’re going to rock that test out!”
“Hi Ron!” he heard a few female voices chorus together as he passed the Zeta Beta house. Several girls were doing yoga out on the front lawn.
“Great form ladies!” he yelled back, grinning as he heard the giggles.
He grabbed his shirt to wipe his forehead and glanced at his watch. 4:30. He was approaching the house and he had time to do some cool down stretches, shower, check that they had enough brothers to cover the Animal Aid fundraiser tomorrow, send his Econ professor his problem set, and dress for dinner before he had to leave for the Delta Nu house.
He slowed to a jog as his feet hit the driveway. He took the porch steps two at a time before entering the house. Immediately, he was greeted by a snort.
“Pig! Good boy,” he greeted, scratching the pug behind his ears.
“Come on boy,” he said, starting up the house stairs to his room, Pig following dutifully behind. As president, he lucked out with his own room with an en-suite bathroom but as was typical for his life, it wasn’t empty.
“Hey brother brother!” two voices said.
Ron rolled his eyes at the twins. “That joke will never be funny.” Fred and George grinned, one sprawled on his bed and one in his desk chair.
“We just have this last semester to even make the joke. Afterwards, it’ll be pathetic,” Fred said.
“That 40k is so close I can taste it,” said George.
His twin brothers were two years older than him, however, they’d dropped out after their sophomore year to open a retail shop selling joke and novelty items. They quickly realized they were more interested in conducting their own research and development; manufacturing their own products to distribute and sell. It was certainly more profitable. In order to get the seed money, they returned to college after two years. Their schooling, like Ron’s, was financed by his Aunt Muriel and upon receiving their bachelors degree, Muriel also handed over a $20,000 cash gift. The crotchety old broad put a lot of value on their schooling.
“And little Ronniekins is going to spend his on a girl,” Fred teased. It was then that he noticed Fred was fiddling with the small gray ring box that had previously been hidden in Ron’s sock drawer. He moved to snatch it back but Fred tossed it across the room to George.
Ron frowned. “First, I’m not spending it all on a girl. Part of it will be for the wedding and the rest I’ll save for a down payment on a house. Maybe not in Boston because we may not stay there after she finishes law school.”
“Oh yes, Bah-stan,” George mocked in a truly terrible accent.
“Yes. She’s sure that it’ll happen. She’s a legacy or something like that. I hope so because I think Boston Beer Company is going to make me an offer.”
“Free Sam Adams? I’ll take it,” Fred nodded.
“Secondly,” said Ron. “She’s not just a girl.”
The twins groaned. “Ugh, Ronnie, there’s no free beer yet. I can’t listen to this sober.”
Ron rolled his eyes.
“I have to ask,” started George. “Are you sure about this? You’re so young and it hasn’t been that long. You could still go to Boston with her without getting engaged.”
While it was annoying to get another “you’re too young” speech, it wasn’t often that his brothers asked him a serious question. “I’m sure. She’s the one.”
“Well then,” said George, flipping the box to him. “Go get her.”
A few hours later, he was shifting nervously in his seat at their table at Chaudron Qui Fuitfont, playing with the same gray ring box in his pocket. The dinner course had been cleared and they were now waiting for dessert to arrive as well as the bottle of champagne he’d surreptitiously requested.
“Astoria, have I told you that you look absolutely breathtaking tonight?”
“Just three or four times,” she laughed.
“Well, I might tell you a few more,” Ron said.
“It’s not everyday that you put so much effort into a date. I had to deliver on my side as well,” Astoria replied.
“It’s appreciated,” Ron smiled. “I-I appreciate everything about you. How gorgeous you are, how driven… the past 18 months with you has really made me sit down and focus on what I want for my future, you know?”
“That’s great, Ron,” Astoria said, reaching across the table to give his hand a squeeze. She glanced around him. “I want another glass of Merlot.”
“Yeah. You know I’m in the final stages for jobs at three companies,” he said.
“Mmm,” she said distractedly.
“Including Boston Beer Company,” he added.
“That’s a reputable company. Although make sure the job isn’t on the Truly brand. They’ll never get the market from White Claw. Mark my words, they’ll fizzle in two years.”
“Astoria, I see my future with you.”
She looked up at him sharply. “What?”
“Yes. I love you. I’m ready to start the next stage of our relationship. Astoria - ” Ron stood up, pulling the ring box out.
“No.”
“Will you marry me?” Ron asked, kneeling next to her.
“No, now get up.”
Ron’s blood suddenly ran cold. “Wha-what?”
“I said, no, now sit down.” He numbly followed her direction.
“Ron,” Astoria sighed. “Oh, honey, I’m sorry.”
“But… why?”
Astoria gave him a pitying look. “Look, we have had so much fun. You’re a great guy.”
“Great guy? You told me you loved me,” he hissed, trying to keep his voice low to avoid more embarrassment.
“And I do. As a college boyfriend. You are a great college boyfriend. You’re president of the second best fraternity on campus so you get all the best party invites. You’re on the cross country team so I can tell everyone I’m dating a Division I athlete, but you aren’t in one of those sports where it like, takes up all your time. You had a cool internship, everybody on campus loves you because you volunteer and help and you’re nice to everyone, even the janitors. You’re sweet and you’ve got a great body and you… you know,” she dropped her voice now “always deliver on what’s promised. You’ve been the perfect person to spend the last few semesters with.”
“I… I don’t understand what the problem is. I sound great from what you’re saying,” Ron seethed, frustration clear in his tone.
“I need a man for the next part of my life. Not a frat boy, not even if he doesn’t exactly fit the stereotype. I’m going to Harvard Law School in the fall. Do you understand how big of a deal that is?”
“Yes! That’s why I am pursuing a job in Boston. To be with you.”
“At a beer company.”
“I’m not opening a bar with my buddies. It’s a research and development role at a major corporation!”
“You have a degree in food science,” Astoria replied, rolling her eyes.
“It’s not like we spend all our time eating. It’s a real field. I got an A in Organic Chemistry.”
“Org Chem with Murphy. The serious students take it with Professor Kettle.”
Ron just gaped at her.
“If I’m going to be a federal judge by the time I’m 40, I need to stop dicking around. And I’m sorry, you’re not a Marty Ginsberg.”
“Yeah, well, I’m not an Armie Hammer either. Feels like there’s some wiggle room between those two extremes.”
“You’re a great guy. And I’m sure you’ll be a great husband to a marketing specialist or a pharmaceutical sales rep. And maybe if I was going to go to Wayne State or Northwestern, things would be different. But this is Harvard Law. There are just… expectations that any potential spouse meet a certain intellectual bar. Or at least a social bar. I mean, my sister is engaged to a Kennedy!”
At that point, the waiter approached the table with their desserts. Astoria stood up. “I’m really sorry. I’ll just call an Uber.” She paused and kissed him on the cheek before exiting the dining room.
“Uh, should I wrap these to go?” asked the waiter as Ron watched Astoria leave.

Eternal Flame- Kol Mikaelson 3/?
Chapter 1- You're the Hybrid?
Summary: Singing. Thats all what Alexandra Gilbert has cared about since she was young and all she would care about until she met him.
With Alexandra fighting vampires, werewolves an all between she may do a thing she vowed never to do, fall in love.
And to think it all started with a walk in the woods...
The room was pitch black I could barely see what's in front of me my fingers getting clipped and cut on the item in my hands. Finally, it was fixed but then the worst thing happened. The door opened.
The room was filled with light from the lights on the ceiling of the room and all of the hard work we created was useless now with all the neatly placed mouse traps springing open making me question the reason of everything. I looked up and saw an alarmed looking Matt Donovan making me feel even more depressed, wondering what I ever did to deserve this.
"Oh come on! Seriously?!? Do you know how long this took for us to set all this up?!?" Caroline yelled at the blonde footballer essentially expressing my thoughts out loud.
"Forgot about senior prank night?" Tyler Lockwood asked his best friend.
"Clearly." he replied seeming confused by the whole ordeal that has been tradition since well ever.
"How could you forget We've only been waiting for this since freshman year!" Caroline once again yelled and not gonna lie I agree with her until last year all of us had been dying for us to prank the teachers following the footsteps of those before us trying to outdo them.
"Yeah, Matt if I'm doing this, you're doing this" Elena chipped in
"Doing what? Having fun what a travesty" I sassed rolling my eyes at my sister "Lord give me strength." I whispered so no one but Caroline would hear me throwing me a glare where I just shrugged innocently. I mean it's not my fault that Elena became boring when dumb and dumber came along.
"I'm surprised any of you are doing this" Matt said, what are we supposed to do just stand around and worry about what might happen? Feel guilty about the deaths we've caused? If we do that, we'll miss college.
"Caroline's making us." Bonnie piped up
"Not making me. To be perfectly honest I'm enjoying myself" I shrug attempting to fix a mouse trap not making eye contact with anyone but still managing to make Caroline to smile at me.
"We're about to be seniors. These are memories that will stay with us forever, and if we don't..." she trailed off still trying to be positive compared to the rest of us.
"And if we don't create memories now, then what's the point of it all?" My sister finished for her best friend making Caroline deflate at the tone of her voice making me feel like snapping at her again but for sake of Caroline I decided to focus on her more than my annoyance or Elena.
"Go ahead make fun, I don't care" She replied, obviously lying to us, hurt how the majority of her friends are making fun of an idea to get all of our mind of the supernatural by doing normal things a teen would enjoy. I wasn't the only one seeing how upset Caroline was with her boyfriend saying.
"You're all lame. And I've got ten more classes to prank." I decided to pitch in after he announced his leave.
"Yeah, I'm meeting my boys in the chem lab, we're 'doing something awesome to Jones' according to Jamie anyway" a small smirk on my face "See you losers later" winking at Caroline.
When out of the class I headed along the hall to get to the class seeing Tyler giving some students instructions "Seems like Caroline's rubbing off on you Ty" a small smile on my face, instead of verbally responding he just rolled his eyes playfully continuing to give instructions.
I kept on wondering down the dark and quiet hallway feeling creeped out. All of a sudden I heard a slamming of a door making me feel more aware of my surroundings ready to run in case of any well unusual people out there
"Who's there?" I shouted out on instinct before realising what a stupid move that was. Well done Alex if they didn't know you were here they do now my subconscious reminded me, I slowly walked towards the noise until I heard from behind me.
"Boo!" I turned around and punched whoever it was on instinct "Fucking hell Andie!" the mysterious 'creature' yelled making me realise it was just Mark then hearing laughter behind him making me see he isn't alone but thing one and two were here as well.
"Jesus Andie remind me never to get in a fight with you" Sam managed out before James saying "Yeah next boxing match I'm putting my money on you"
I give them an unimpressed look "oh you mean all 10 cent you know seeing as though the last time you bet you lost 100 dollars" casting up how he bet on the Dolphins winning the super bowl losing 100 dollars in the process. "And you. carry on way you're acting and we'll be getting in a fight quite soon" I told James.
"Not a word." was all I said to Mark knowing a sarcastic comment was coming causing him roll his eyes. "Right gents what class are we supposed to be pranking?" before following a still grinning James to the chemistry lab belonging to Mr Jones' the hatred between him and Jamie running deep with the detentions and destruction in the past 3 years.
"Of course it would be Jones. Your obsession with each other is genuinely unhealthy." Sam remarked with an eye roll.
"Gotta agree with Sammy on that Jame" Mark seconded with me making a noise of agreement while looking through the bag he brought with him finding confetti, superglue, a large cut out of about 8 feet cut out of the periodic table and purple paint?
"Yeah well, I could say same for you and Kayleigh Jackson." referring to the rivalry between Kayleigh a kind blonde braniac who was on the cheer squad and honestly the only girl in this school I would trust with my life. Her and Sam had a rivalry which stemmed from how Kayleigh fought over a red crayon with him in kindergarten ever since they fight over the most stupid things, from what colour nitrogen mixed with sulphuric acid to whose cake was better in home economics, honestly, it's just became a way of life.
"Right before we start fighting about whose rivalry is worse let's get on with the prank?" I suggested with the back up from my blue-eyed best friend.
"So, you want to superglue the periodic table coloured in purple his least favourite colour" I started before Sam butted in
"How do you know his least favourite colour exactly?"
"I have my ways you have yours" Jesus this is hard work but I tried to continue "Then rig up this contraption when he opens his door tomorrow, he'll have confetti fallen on him?"
"and superglue" he added
I stared at him for a few seconds before saying "Sounds good. I'll get started on the confetti and super glue"
We all joked and tried our best to prank Mr Jones to the best of our ability and not just because of the hated between a certain drummer and the teacher himself. After we did that, we walked to the next class Mr Curtis our favourite music teacher but before we could begin, we were interrupted by Harry from my political studies class coming in and telling all of us
"Hate to break it guys but we've been busted, teacher saw us pranking the gym hall." he told us with a sympathetic smile. once he told us this, we all groaned and complained
"That's shit"
"You're joking!"
"No. That aint right."
"Jesus Christ. Why is god against me?"
"Don't shoot the messenger guys." Harry replied with his hand up in surrender walking out of the class.
Mark sighed "Well this is shit."
"I know fucking hate this" James agreed shaking his head. I swear I saw a tear in his brown eye.
"What can we do gents? We're caught. Just think of Mr Jones face tomorrow that's all you have to think about to get through the day" I told them trying to show them a silver lining to this horrible end of a great night.
"Yeah, doesn't make it any better." The drummer moaned "Do any of you need a ride?"
"Yeah, that'd be great"
"Yes, please my man" the two other males answered the brunette.
"Can't sorry boys, have to go home with my sister. Sorry" I declined
"Good luck, Alex" Mark said somewhat making it sound sarcastic making me throw a pencil at him as he raced out the classroom.
"See ya tomorrow my girl"
"Adios gorgeous" the other two more sensible- at that moment- boys said. I waved them good bye before we walked out of the class going in opposite directions with them heading out to the parking lot and me like an idiot going through all the school looking for my sister. Texting her asking where she was.
"She better not have left me" I muttered before opening the doors to enter the Gym hall.
"Alex! get out of here!" was all I heard looking up from my phone seeing an unusual scene in front of me to say the least. An empty hall with the exception of my sister, chad from Miss Golds class and Dana the girl who co-organised the whole prank night with Caroline and a man in his 20's? next to Elena seeming to be talking to her.
For once it looked like my sister had the right so I turned and bolted towards the doors only to be stopped by the same man that was conversing with the doppelganger.
""Now, now love. Who may you be?" He said in a nice posh British accent looking into my eyes therefore me being able to understand I'm being compelled.
"Someone on vervain." I snarked back "Try an eat me and it'll be like drinking acid, or so I've been told." I told him acting innocent at the old. he rolls his eyes as though expecting the sarcasm. Stefan must have told him everything about the entirety of the school.
This dick of a vampire gripped my am tightly and threw me onto the ground.
"Jesus be a bit gentler. Love." adding a bit more English mannerisms sarcastically where he just smirked back. Asshole.
"Alex! Are you okay?" My sister asks worried for my safety. I looked around my surroundings once more seeing Dana keeping her leg up wobbling every now and kind of like she's being controlled.
"Been better, been worse." I replied to my sister getting up "What's wrong with Dana and Chad?" I asked the brunette doppelganger; she opened her mouth but before she could reply the mysterious and freak of a vampire answered for her.
"Well love I compelled them. You seem to know what that means?" I glared at him thinking of any wooded objects that would kill the vampire in front of me there's a pencil you stole from Sam in your back pocket use that but before I could I heard my sister ask the vampire.
"Where's Stefan? What did you do to him?"
"Stefan's on a bit of a time out" What? Stefans with that psycho hybrid? Oh my days... before anything else was said I gave out a little laugh
"You're the hybrid? the scary murderous sociopath everyone is talking about? you look like an old man with dire need of a new war-" but before I could finish, he ran towards me pushing me against the back wall threatening to kill me in a chokehold.
"That may be so but I can break your neck with a single flick." he said with a murderous tone and eyes that look like he wanted to kill me but couldn't?
"Duly noted." I managed to get out before hearing him laugh in my face letting me go and fall to the floor with a crash.
"Now what is your name sweetheart?" but before I could reply Bonnie and Matt open the doors and enter the huge hall
"Bonnie, get out of here!" My sister yelled
"Go, Bon, Leave!" I shouted along with her well attempted to shout. But in a blink of an eye the hybrid was in front of the Bennett witch, now this is a fight I would like to see. On Bonnies side of course.
"Ah I was wondering when you'd show up. Now we can get started."

Erica, sentence 12, please?
this one was fun to do since it was kind of different than my usual stuff :D
“Well, if you had woken up properly the first time I kicked you, I wouldn’t have had to do it four more times.”
Maybe Erica shouldn’t have agreed to them splitting up. Maybe it was totally her fault wanting to after the monster of week alone. And maybe she should’ve known better than to get herself cornered in the chem lab, which was for anyone wondering, on the opposite side of the school of where everyone else was searching. Needless to say the odds were against her, but who’s keeping score?
This time around the monster of the week was another werewolf.
Well, correction it was Ethan as a werewolf again, who was much more of the typical fang and claw kind instead of the disappointingly cute, fluffy dog that was David. However, this time around he wasn’t as scary as the last time Ethan was temporarily turned but it was still definitely nothing to sneeze at.
Six feet tall, ripped clothes, blood soaked teeth that came to a point, and razor sharp claws that were dragging along the sides of the walls, the sound of his nails scratching harshly against the metal lockers caused a high pitched screech that made Erica’s ears ring. Despite the beast standing up right like a person, he couldn’t speak anything more than growls and grunts.
Erica hid behind the corner, attempted to steady her breathing and considered her next moves carefully. There was no way she could fight that thing by herself without seriously getting scratched up. Vampire fangs and werewolf claws did not mix, drinking their blood would make her completely sick and getting ripped up wouldn’t do her any favors either. Not to mention she didn’t have any silver on her so she had to keep running and hiding, no better than a human. How embarrassing.
Besides, even if she would never say it out loud Ethan was her friend, second best to Sarah. She didn’t actually want to hurt him but he wasn’t in the right mind to feel the same way towards her. Ugh, nice going Benny with another amazing spell that totally didn’t backfire again.
The werewolf let out a howl and sniffed the air. Shit. Okay. Erica needed to think faster, there had to be somewhere where she could get some kind of upper hand before he sniffed her out. Glancing ahead she could make out a classroom sign, ‘Chem Lab.’ Bingo. If there was anything at school that would be useful in a monster fight it would be in the one place they were allowed to have open fire and chemicals.
Erica used her skilled vampire hearing to listen in on how far away the footsteps coming towards her were, after a few seconds she figured the beast was at least a few yards off from where she was. There wasn’t much time to double check her math, so as quietly and quickly as she could used vampire speed to make her way to the classroom. It was a few doors down and lucky her on the same side of where she hid behind the lockers, staying close against the wall to keep most of her cover still.
Vampire speed helped in making sure she got into the classroom undetected, but what would be impressive if she actually found something she could protect herself with. Times like this really made her wish she didn’t steal a new phone after every meal, never remembering phone numbers really came back to bite her in the ass.
Regrets aside, she searched through the classroom, door locked and chairs pushed to barricade herself in to buy her some more time. There was no way Erica was going to let some overgrown dog with matted fur give her some ancient undead disease, and she definitely wasn’t going to let her nerdy friend be the one to do her in either.
Frantically she searched through beakers filled with odd colorful liquids and containers that had varying animal parts, a plan forming in her head as she glanced at the silver dissecting knife. Another loud howl caused her shoulders to jump, nerves becoming slightly unsteady, whatever she was thinking of doing she would need to do fast.
In the distance she could hear clawed paws running along the hallway floor, heading straight towards the chem lab. Damnit, alright, time to put this plan into action and hope she doesn’t accidentally kill him in the process.
She took a pig’s heart out of one the containers, it was still slightly damp but tough enough that it was hard to squeeze, most of the chemicals left out would only leave burn scars so not too helpful against a friend. Although, she kept the fact they were there in the back of her mind, just in case. She grabbed the dissecting knife, slim and silver and her best bet at the moment. Erica hid behind a few desks as Ethan’s beastly form banged against the door, trying his hardest to get in, growling all the while. The walls shook from the sheer force of his body slamming repeatedly into the wall.
Erica hoped he was making enough noise that others would hear it and come to help, anything to get her out of this stupid mess that she totally shouldn’t even be a part of. It was Benny’s dumb spell! It should be Benny’s problem! Her and Sarah could be out right now, having a late night snack but no, she was at school after dark being hunted by the dorkiest werewolf ever. Granted, she didn’t want to admit that Ethan was powerful and large and way too threatening for being such a small teen boy.
How could someone who thought Star Track the third gen was the best version of Star Track be this dangerous?  Ugh, totally lame. Erica rolled her eyes at the idea and forced back on not dying.
Keeping the knife in hand she stabbed the pig’s heart a few times until it leaked gross clear fluids and threw it to the opposite side of the room, her plan mostly ready by the time Ethan finally broke through the door and tossed the chairs out of his way. Most went flying, banging against the walls and falling to the floor with a loud clatter.
Seriously, Erica was going to be pissed if no one heard all this.
The beast sniffed through the classroom, either catching onto the smell of Erica or hopefully the pig’s heart that laid far away enough that she could make her next moves. After hearing the clash of more chairs and tables being knocked over, the sound of chewing was the signal Erica needed to stand from her hiding place. Ethan’s large form faced away and hunched over as he attempted to rip apart the animal heart, it was old and rubbery distracting him along for Erica to quickly speed over and run the small silver knife through his upper back.
Ethan let out a pained howl, dropping the heart and slouching over. Erica didn’t want to say it but she felt bad for stabbing her friend in the back, literally. The knife hadn’t gone in very deep and if it had been anything but silver it wouldn’t have hurt in the slightest, no worse than a paper cut to a beast this big, but then again he wasn’t really a beast all.
She yanked the knife out from his left shoulder, small drips of dark blood oozing out slowly and she attempted to catch him before he crashed harshly onto the floor, her vampire strength the only thing keeping her from falling over with him.
Gently laying him down, Erica watched as the hair and claws retracted back to skin and nails, Ethan’s human face beginning to peek through as it morphed back to normal. She let out a deep sign and slouched onto the floor next to him, tired and sweaty from having to be overly careful from not getting torn to bits for the past two hours. Ethan wasn’t a real werewolf, the spell could be undone by a bit of silver striking through his skin. No one really wanted to stab their friend so Benny looked for a different spell to fix the problem, but Erica didn’t trust it would really work. A knife to the back wouldn’t hurt forever and the scare would at least be small, she reasoned.
No one could be too upset at her, Ethan would be fine now. Probably. She glanced back at him, his breathing shallow as he laid unconscious. He’s alive at least. Although his face was sickly pale and sweat was beginning to form on his face, he looked more like he was breaking a fever than being cured of a curse.
“You and that other nerd are way too much trouble for being human,” she spoke out loud to herself. “And I’m still pissed you crashed my Friday night so you better get up now before I beat you awake.” She was mostly joking, she wouldn’t hit him too hard, just good enough to jolt him awake.
Standing up she used her foot to poke at his body, it was limp and moved easily. At first she lightly nudged him until she got fed up with waiting and pushed harder, a kick or two towards his arms would probably force him up. It didn’t.
“Ugh, seriously? I’m not carrying you and you better not die either.” Without totally meaning to, she kicked too quick and harshly at his lower chest which caused him to start coughing. “Finally. It’s about time.” Erica rolled her eyes but watched to make sure he wasn’t coughing up blood either, a ping of worry developing in her chest that she might have over done it and hit him too hard.
He couched for a few seconds longer, dry heaving before sitting up right completely trying to catch his breath. Ethan held his chest and let in an awkward deep inhale that made a funny noise in the back of his throat. “If you’re going to die can you at least do it in a less gross way? You’re getting spit on my new boots.”
“You kicked me in the chest!” Ethan tried to shout but it came too hoarse. He cleared his throat and tried again. “Why the hell would you kick me when I’m unconscious?”
“Well, if you had woken up properly the first time I kicked you, I wouldn’t have had to do it four more times.” Erica shot back, although it might have been a little of an exaggeration. She didn’t totally mean to kick that hard.
Ethan laid back down, his right arm lazily thrown over his face to shield his eyes despite there being barely any light in the room. “You’re crazy.” he mumbled.
Erica scoffed. “Is that any way to talk to someone who saved your life?” She said, sitting across from him on the floor, too tired to keep standing. The others would find them soon enough anyways, no point in going anywhere now.
They stayed silent for a few moments, there was nothing left to say, at least Erica thought there wasn’t anything to say. In a nervous voice Ethan asked her softly, “I didn’t hurt anyone, right? The blood isn’t from a person?”
Erica could feel the fear and worry in his question, Sarah had once asked her something similar. She was always afraid of killing someone and luckily she never did. Erica didn’t know if she could say the same for herself, some nights were a blur.
“No,” she answered honestly. “It’s animal blood or your own. So don’t worry about it.” She looked away from him. She shouldn’t care about some nerdy human, but weirder things have happened to her. Maybe it’s because he was like Sarah in a lot of ways that Erica felt she could get along easier with him than she did the others who were too loud and active for her tastes.
“You might want to get your stomach pumped through. Hell knows how old that pig’s heart was.” She added to try to break the tension.
“I think I’m going be sick,” he rolled over on his side. “Everything hurts.”
Ethan let out a deep breath, relief visibly washing over him from not having killed anyone. Erica could sense the way his muscles finally relaxed. “And the others?” He asked, suddenly anxious again.
“Somewhere around here. They'll be here soon. Sarah can patch you up. So just take it easy there, Fido.” She kept him from standing up and pushing his body any further. “They’re all okay. Just sit down before you hurt yourself some more, dumbass.”
Slowly he sat back down, a moment went by before he spoke again. “Uh, thanks. For stabbing me, I guess. I didn’t hurt you either, right?” He kept his eyes locked on the wall not wanting to make eye contact. She smiled knowing he wouldn’t catch it.
“Like you could lay a claw on me,” she joked. “The only thing you hurt was my plans for tonight so you owe me one.”
“Yeah? Like what?” Ethan asked, an eyebrow raised.
“Come see the next Dusk movie with me and Sarah.”
They kept from looking at each other but knew they were both smiling. Maybe Sarah was onto something by making friends with him.
“Alright, deal.”

Jordan Jackson
Tumblr media
Written for @ironspidercrack who requested I write a goofy body swap au with their stargirl OC speedster Jordan Jackson
The sunlight beamed through the window of Jordan's bedroom, he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes not quite ready to wake up yet when something felt off.
The pink pillow his head was laying on was not his.
Neither was the pink duvet cover that was keeping him warm.
"I don't remember going to Courtney's last night," he mumbled to himself as he got out of the bed.
He wandered to the bathroom, running a hand through his hair which felt unusually long and a high pitched shriek came out of him when he saw himself in the bathroom mirror.
Or rather, he saw Courtney in the mirror.
"Court? You okay?" Pat yelled running into her room.
"Pat! It's not Courtney, it's me Jordan!" He says in a panic.
"Jordan?" Pat says confused.
"Yes Jordan," he reaffirms.
"What's going on?" Barbara said joining them in the bathroom.
"Um- I uh… have a pimple… mom," Jordan stuttered.
"Don't worry dear it's barely noticeable nothing to scream about," Barbara chuckles leaving Jordan alone with Pat.
"How did this happen," Jordan whispers to Pat.
"I don't know but we'll have to call the team together," Pat sighs, "wait… if you're here then where's Courtney?"
"Oh my god Courtney!" Jordan quips.
"Oh my god how do I pee with this thing," Courtney is asking herself in Jordan's own bathroom, trying not to stare at the new appendage between her legs but her bladder felt like it was about to explode so she did her best to aim without looking.
She didn't make it.
Then Jordan's phone started ringing and she was relieved to see her name pop up.
"Jordan, thank god what is happening?" She blurted.
"I'm not sure but Pat is rounding up the team, meet us at the garage before school," he told her.
Half an hour later the whole JSA was at the garage as both Courtney and Jordan walked in.
"Hey Court, ready for the chem test today?" Yolanda smiled.
"Not Courtney, Jordan," he corrected.
Yolanda, Beth and Rick all looked at her confused.
"I'm Courtney," Courtney said from Jordan's body.
"What the hell," Rick muttered.
"Somehow Courtney and Jordan switched bodies," Pat stated, "what meta humans have you come into contact with lately?"
"Only the ISA and none of them have the ability to do this," Jordan replied.
"Well, remember there was that little elf dude last week," Rick added.
"Elf dude?" Pat asked.
"Yeah his name was like Mister mixpickles or something," Courtney shrugged.
"You mean Mister Mxyzptlk," Pat groans.
"That's it," Beth says cheerfully.
"Why didn't you tell me you ran into Mxyzptlk," Pat scolded.
"Because he was a wimp, we took care of him in like five minutes," Jordan said.
"You guys he's a master trickster, he's a pain in the ass but he can cause some serious trouble," Pat informed them.
"If you know so much about him then how do we fix this," Courtney asks.
"We have to find him and say his name backwards, it's the only way to get him to reverse his mischief," Pat explains.
"We should get going you guys, school is starting soon," Yolanda tells them.
"You all go to school and I'll try to track down Mxyzptlk," Pat says, "and Jordan and Courtney remember you guys are each other, try not to make it obvious somethings wrong alright."
"Yeah cause that won't be hard," Courtney sighs as all the teenagers leave the garage.
"Hey Court," you say pulling her to side.
"Yeah?"
"I uh… need help putting a bra on… i tried and i couldn't figure it out without ya know… looking," he whispered.
"I'll help you in the car," Courtney blushed, "and I need to put some some makeup on you too."
At least Jordan was trying to be as respectful as she was.
The school day was interesting to say the least.
Courtney and Jordan exchanged schedules and had to stop themselves from going to their regular classes.
Jordan almost went into the boys bathroom twice and hasn't quite mastered the art of peeing sitting down yet.
He also had to put up with Cindy being his lab partner in chemistry where he learned she's scary good at mixing chemicals and was now even more intimidated by her.
"So what's it like being a girl," Rick asked Jordan smuggly as they waited for the girls after final period.
"So weird dude, Amanda in history told me she liked my makeup and asked what foundation I use? You get so much splashback when you pee sitting down and as great as boobs are to look at they are really annoying to have," Jordan complained.
"You looked at her boobs?" Rick gasped.
"No!" Jordan shot back, "I mean we haven't even done more than makeout. I just get now why girls always complain about having back problems and bra's are way too tight, it's so hard to breathe right."
Before Rick could ask more questions the girls finally arrived and it was off to find Mxzypltk.
"So Pat heard that he was last seen hanging around the Blue Valley race tracks, he's meeting us there," Courtney explained.
The group headed across town to the race tracks where sure enough Mxzypltk was giving the gamblers good luck before taking it away when they thought they were hitting big.
"Ugh you kids again," he groaned when you approached him, "Pat Dugan so good to see you it's been far too long. m
"You need to put Courtney and Jordan back in their own bodies Mxzypltk," Pat ordered.
"Why? The young lovers aren't having fun walking in each other's shoes?" He laughed.
"I like being in my own body thanks," Courtney stated.
Yolanda was ready to pounce on him at any given moment if he tried to run while Chuck was currently giving Beth a history lesson and Imp folklore.
"Come on man, just switch us back and we can all be on our way," Jordan told him.
"Well what would be the fun in that?" He grinned before trying to make a break for it.
There was a brief brawl but apparently Mxzypltk hadn't learned his lesson from his previous encounter with the JSA.
Yolanda and Rick had him pinned the ground after Jordan sped in front of him and effectively decked him.
"Courtney, say his name backwards," Pat reminded her.
"I don't know how to say his name backwards Pat I barely know how to say it forwards," Courtney replied.
"Just sound it out, hurry," he muttered helping the teenagers keep him trapped.
"Um… kilp… ill… skim? Kilp ill skim! Kilp ill skim!" Courtney yelped.
Mxzypltk shouted a few obscenities before giving in, "alright alright! Let me go and I'll switch them back."
Yolanda and Rick looked to each and nodded, the pair releasing the trickster.
Mxzypltk sighed and rolled his eyes, snapping his fingers.
Both Jordan and Courtney went still, a moment later each letting out a deep breath.
Courtney's hands went to her curly hair and Jordan grabbed his boobless chest.
"Oh my god we're back," Courtney said cheerfully hugging Jordan.
"Whatever, now leave me be I have more gambling addicts souls to crush," Mxzypltk quipped.
"Pat should we really just let him go?" Jordan asked.
"We'll deal with him another day," Pat said waving Mxzypltk off, "I don't know about you kids but I'm starving, let's go get something to eat."
As Yolanda, Beth and Rick debated on what fast food chain to stop at Jordan and Courtney walked a few steps behind them hand in hand.
"Today was crazy," Courtney said.
"It was but I knew you'd fix it, you always do," Jordan said kissing her cheek, "I love you Courtney."
"I love you too," she smiled.

No Hints
@sanderssidescelebrations
Pairing(s): Romantic Royality, Romantic Analogical
As Virgil walked down the hallway of Jefferson High, he couldn’t help but grin as he heard the swirling rumors. Most of the year, he wanted to be left alone, unseen, hiding in the shadows. But once Halloween rolled around, he was the talk of the school.
It made the effort he put into his costumes worth it.
“Virgil!”
Glancing up, Virgil saw Roman waving from his locker. The two of them had been enemies until freshman year, when Patton had forced them to talk through their problems. They’d been best friends ever since.
“Sup?” Giving Roman a nod, he started stuffing his books in his locker, grabbing the ones he needed for the morning.
“Sup? That’s all you’re going to say?” Roman shut his locker and leaned against it. “Please, just give me a hint.”
“Nope.”
“Pleeeeeeeeeeease?”
Shutting his own locker, Virgil shook his head. “No one gets any hints. You’ll just have to wait until tomorrow like everyone else.”
“But I’m your best friend!” The two of them headed for homeroom, walking to the Math hallway together. “Come on, I bet if Patton gave you puppy dog eyes that you’d tell him.”
“He’s tried that.”
Roman’s jaw dropped. “You can resist those eyes?”
“He’s got you wrapped around his finger, doesn’t he?” As Roman let out a series of offended noises, Virgil laughed. “No one gets any clues.”
“Not even Logan?” Roman started to waggle his eyebrows.
Virgil shoved him, feeling his face start to burn. “Shut up, Ro!”
“Maybe I’ll just have to get him on my side and have him ask you.” He sang as he ducked into homeroom. Which he just so happened to share with one Logan Pallas.
With a groan, Virgil sat down next to Patton.
“What’s wrong?”
“Your boyfriend is evil.” Virgil mumbled, pressing his forehead against the desk. “He’s using my crush against me.”
Patton giggled. “Who said it was his idea?”
“Oh my god, all of my friends are conspiring against me.”
More giggles poured out of Patton until the two of them were both laughing. Virgil flashed Patton a smile as the bell rang.
As the day went by, Virgil did his best to avoid Logan. Roman and Patton he could handle, but if Logan turned those baby blues on him, he’d crack immediately.
Of course, this was impossible come his final class. He and Logan were lab partners for AP Chem, considering the two of them were the smartest in the class.
“So, Roman asked me to ask you something this morning.” Logan said once they started on their lab.
Rereading their worksheet, Virgil sighed. “Yeah, I figured he would.”
“How does six o’clock sound? We can grab some pizza at Gino’s and then walk down to the movie theater. They’re replaying the first Star Wars movie.”
Virgil stared at Logan. “What?”
Redness started to creep into Logan’s cheeks. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have assumed that what Roman told me was true.”
“What did he tell you?” Virgil whispered, plotting to kill Roman as soon as he saw him next.
“He told me I should ask you out?” Logan finished their mixture, placing the liquid in a vial and corking it. “Was he wrong?”
“I - um -”
“I apologize if I made you uncomfortable.”
“No, Logan -”
“Forget what I said.”
“No!” Virgil blushed as he realized the whole class was looking at him. He turned in their vial, waiting for the attention to die down before he continued. “I - yeah, I’d love to go out with you. I just...I thought he was going to ask you to ask me about my costume.”
“He told me I should ask about that too, but why should I?” Logan gave Virgil a smile. “It’s much more satisfying to see the day of.”
That night, Logan and Virgil went on an amazing date. As they were walking out of the theater, hand-in-hand, Logan cleared his throat.
“While I don’t wish to know your full costume, may I get a hint?”
“I don’t know, I don’t usually give hints.” Virgil teased.
The look in Logan’s eyes had blood racing to Virgil’s cheeks. “Perhaps I can convince you.”
Leaning back against the building, Logan pulled Virgil with him. Virgil gasped as their lips met, fireworks melting every rational aspect of his brain.
“Can I get that hint now, or do you need more convincing?” Logan whispered, leaving hardly an inch of space between their lips.
“It’s a cross between two creatures.” Virgil mumbled, before their lips met again.
The next day, when Virgil walked into the school, his friends were awestruck.
“A DRAGON WITCH?” Roman shouted as he felt the material of the costume. His foil sword hung around his belt, matching his prince costume.
Patton bounced on his heels behind him, his princess dress bouncing with him. “That’s so cool!”
Logan walked up in a wizard robe, greeting them with a smile. “Oh, a witch cursed with dragon form? I hope there’s a cure.”
“True love’s kiss might help.” Virgil said, hearing Patton squeal and Roman gasp.
Logan laughed, wrapping his arms around Virgil’s neck.
“That can be arranged.”
