Double Standards: Malfoys vs Weasleys Edition
I'm on a roll, baby! TWO double standards today! All from book 4!
Nepotism/Favoritism
Moody’s magical eye spun around to stare at Ron; Ron looked extremely apprehensive, but after a moment Moody smiled – the first time Harry had seen him do so. ‘You’ll be Arthur Weasley’s son, eh?’ Moody said. ‘Your father got me out of a very tight corner a few days ago …”
. . . my husband, Arthur, has just managed to get prime tickets through his connections at the Department of Magical Games and Sports.
Fudge, who wasn’t listening, said, “Lucius has just given a very generous contribution to St Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, Arthur. He’s here as my guest.”
Bonus from Book 5
Harry distinctly heard the gentle clinking of what sounded like a full pocket of gold. ‘Really, just because you are Dumbledore’s favourite boy, you must not expect the same indulgence from the rest of us … shall we go up to your office, then, Minister?’
What I find most notable here is the difference in nature between the scenarios. The Malfoys' nepotism is more quid pro quo. Charity donations and political bribery. Whereas Authur Weasley seems to have used his position to help people like the Bagmans skirt the law. A government official helps another official's relative with a sketchy situation and in return, he gets expensive, premier seats?! Sounds a bit corrupt to me.
But hardly anyone in HP fandom has an issue with nepotism when the Weasleys do it. Nope, it's only bad when the rich Malfoys do it, duh!
Discrimination
Mum’s writing to the Muggles to ask you to stay. We’re coming for you whether the Muggles like it or not, you can’t miss the World Cup, only Mum and Dad reckon it’s better if we pretend to ask their permission first. Ron, it’s all OK, the Muggles say I can come.
Mr Malfoy’s eyes had returned to Hermione, who went slightly pink, but stared determinedly back at him. Harry knew exactly what was making Mr Malfoy’s lip curl. The Malfoys prided themselves on being pure-bloods; in other words, they considered anyone of Muggle descent, like Hermione, second-class.
Bonus: Weasley hypocrisy
“That’s sick,” Ron muttered, watching the smallest Muggle child, who had begun to spin like a top, sixty feet above the ground, his head flopping limply from side to side. “That is really sick…”
What I found very fascinating is how the discrimination is presented. The Weasleys' disgusting prejudice towards muggles is very casual. It's treated as normal and acceptable: for heaven's sake, Harry (our wonderful hero) even participates in dehumanizing his relatives. I bet most HP readers don't even bat an eye - JKR has trained the reader to accept muggle dehumanization. Yet, what I find strange is that Harry has to literally spell out the Malfoy's distaste for Hermione. Why is JKR wasting her time with this? By book 4, we already know how the Malfoys feel about Hermione. I think it's another indicator of JKR's crappy writing.
Anyway, after we see the appalling way the Weasleys treat the Durselys and the Grangers, JKR expects her readers to swallow Ron acting as a moral compass when he sees the muggle family being tortured? Please.
People need to remember that we are the muggles. Would you prefer the Malfoys who hate all things muggle and mainly want their world to be separate from muggles and keep to themselves (which Draco said way back in book 1 when he met Harry)?? Or would you prefer the Weasleys who have little respect for muggles and have little qualms about invading your home and bodily autonomy?
As a black woman, I prefer a KKK racist who lives far away from me and who I will probably never see in my lifetime. Compared to a white liberal who causally asks me degrading questions every day like why my English is so good when I am from Jamaica. Or anyone else for that matter who makes me feel insecure about my culture and abilities. All under the guise of being a so-called ally.
Truly, between the Malfoys and Weasleys, who has caused muggles more harm on screen or on paper?? I don't know how many people Lucius hurt as a DE besides the poor Roberts family but given JKR treats muggles as NPCs in her books, I guess those rando people Lucius may have killed don't matter :(. And why were muggles there anyway?! At a wizarding event?! That poor Mr. Roberts being treated worse than a dog by people who are supposed to be pro-muggle leaning.
At that moment, a wizard in plus-fours appeared out of thin air next to Mr Roberts’s front door. “Obliviate!” he said sharply, pointing his wand at Mr Roberts. “Been having a lot of trouble with him. Needs a Memory Charm ten times a day to keep him happy.”
Sigh. Muggles deserved better. Forget Draco calling Hermione a mudblood. Like that slur means anything to Hermione anyway. Or has any meaningful impact. Muggles are the true victims in these books.

Y'all are aware of that 10 hour Harry Potter retrospective but the thing that gets me the most out of that whole thing that I never considered when reading the series is that wizards can obviously chose to adhere to the Statute of Secrecy but like... Magical creatures can't make that choice and Fantastic Beasts literally starts with Newt chasing down a rogue niffler, meaning that muggles probably frequently encounter magical creatures. There's no way that muggles and magical creatures could reasonably be segregated- Hermione's cat is half magical creature so how many muggle cats are also half neasel?
Like why on earth would you invent a world in which you have scores of animals, and also plants, that cannot reasonably consent to secrecy from muggles and the excuse of witch trials falls flat when actual magic exists that should factor into how those witch trials play out but never seems to come up. Anyway, the most unrealistic thing about a universe with magic and dragons and shit is that muggles would somehow never run into and remember a magical creature, there's zero way the wizards could catch every muggle who has seen something and obliviate them that's a herculean task designed to fail I refuse to believe no nifflers have ever stolen some muggles shit enough that they'd know what them little bastards were.
#winters ramblings#also why would creatures like centaurs who dont like wizards have to not talk to muggles?? its not like wizard treat them well#for them to fear muggle discrimination. why would THEY bother?? house elves?? no human has ever seen one??#Tolkien saw a house elf thats why gollum looks like that. like NO WAY through the ENTIRETY of the post SoS#that EVERY muggle who has seen magical creatures has been sufficiently mind wiped#also the dursleys clearly know about wizards and magic so how is it that the muggles of muggleborn kids#never seem to factor into the worlds politics?? what do THEY think of not being able to warn their other family#of the hreat of dark wizards?? what do they think of all those muggles being obliviated?? surely theyd be keenly aware#that if they leave their wizard partner its ENTIRELY PROBABLE that THEIR minds will be wiped??#H O W does this group of people have no voice in the series??!? like did hermione just never tell her parents#about that time DEMENTORS were guarded hogwarts from a mass murderer?? like Sirius was innocent but ???#did they not think they should have a right to have their magical kid educated WITHOUT happiness sucking monsters#and actual mass murderers PLUS dark wizards??!? what did THEY think of the slave house elves??#i want a story from THAT point of view and also how do these people not play into the worlds politics??#no way that the mugfles that DO know about wizards would be FINE eith having no say#and also magical creatures are 200% walking into people's gardens and eating shit#some mugfle is out there shitting bricks watching a hippogriff eat their roses and snapping pics#with their 1998 kodiak camera

Here's a Thought About Harry Potter...
Okay, so you have bigoted Wizarding children who look down on muggles and muggleborns and put big emphasis on wizarding lineage and whatnot. Big example in canon was Draco and his open use of the derogatory word "Mudblood".
So let's ignore the blatant favoritism where he and others are free to bully and be overtly cruel with no punishment or consequence.
Let's also pretend the teachers actually do their jobs and issue appropriate punishment.
What would happen if one of said teachers decides that the best way to curb Draco's blatant discrimination would be to have him learn about muggles?
So Draco ends up transferred to Muggle Studies.
Draco: This is a waste of time! Name one thing muggles have accomplished that Wizards haven't. Go ahead. I'll wait— Teacher: They've been to the moon. Draco: Wait—what? Teacher: Six times. Draco: WHAT?!
Where he is forced to...(shudder) learn about how muggles live!
Oh nooooooooo.
So he learns about muggle inventions.
Muggle Student1: So there's this square device called a "cell phone" that's compact enough that we can carry around in our pockets. We can also use it to send messages within seconds, chat with people across the world, play games, and look at pictures of cats. Draco: Don't think you can fool me! Like I would fall for something so insane! Muggle Student2: (Sarcastically) Oh no, he caught us.
Muggle contraptions.
Draco: What do you mean they don't use quills? How do they write? Teacher: With pens. Draco: Where do they get the ink from? Teacher: It's IN the pen. Draco: (Stares) …how?
Muggle hobbies.
Malfoy: What is "internet"? Muggleborn Student1: ….oh you sweet summer child. Muggleborn Student2: Don't tell him. I don't think his brain could handle it.
He also ends up falling into the muggleborn black market.
Which comes with the revelation that there IS, in fact, a muggleborn black market at Hogwarts. Because I'm hard pressed to believe that kids in the modern era would just abandon their modern comforts completely.
Muggleborn Student1: Hey, just because electronics don't work at Hogwarts doesn't mean we have to leave everything behind. Muggleborn Black Market Dealer: I have a new stock of Cadbury chocolates, KitKat bars, and Fruit Pastilles. Muggleborn Student1: YES! Draco: (Scoff) There's nothing here I would want. Muggleborn Black Market Dealer: I have one set of "Slytherin" gel pens in black, silver, and bright green. One set of glitter gel pens. And a spiral notebook with a holographic cover. Draco: (Slams money on the counter) GIMME!
And Draco ends up learning a lot.
After all, a Slytherin is supposed to be cunning and ambitious.
It would be remiss of him to not take advantage of such opportunity as it presents itself.

call it what you want | draco malfoy x reader
song; call it what you want [taylor swift] pairing; draco malfoy x fem!muggle!reader genre; fluff, angst, forbidden love, s2l word count; 4,3k timeline; post-second wizarding war warnings; draco's daddy issues, low-key y/n's daddy issues, references to the second wizarding war (and draco's part in it), discrimination (of muggleborns) summary; his entire life, draco had it drilled into him that anything to do with muggles was bad- impure, even. but after his father is imprisoned for life, he decides to venture into the muggle world- just as a temporary thing, of course
suggested by @tendous-pretty-hair !!

"my baby's fly like a jet stream, high above the whole scene, loves me like i'm brand new."
also i have fucking eras tour tickets!!!
—————————————————
Draco had found himself at an emotional stand-still ever since the Second Wizarding War - more specifically the events of the Battle of Hogwarts. After he had regrettably joined Voldemort's side in the mass fallout, only for him to lose anyway. He wasn't sentenced to any time in Azkaban, since it was deemed that he had been coerced into the situation, as backed up by his mother, who had been pardoned due to saving Harry Potter's life in the final moments. His father, however, would never feel the light of happiness again, caged away in the breeding ground of fear.
It wasn't that Draco missed Lucius all that much, in fact, quite the opposite. The time away from him had allowed him and Narcissa to grow closer, and also given him the opportunity to properly question and break down the beliefs that had been hammered into his head since infancy.
Eventually, he decided to step foot into unknown territory: muggle London. He had only ever been to the magic side of it before, but he had come to the realisation that living such a sheltered life was the reason he wound up another of Voldemort's slaves. That lifestyle would be no more.
He found himself stood outside of a small music store, displayed to have vinyls, CDs and cassette tapes inside - whatever they were. Draco did know what music was, however, and wanted to understand the way that muggles experienced it. So, he stepped foot into the shop with the tinkling of a tiny silver bell above him alerting whoever was working behind the tall overflowing shelves.
There were more people perusing the shelves than he had anticipated, so he ducked his head down and headed to an emptier area of the shop. As he began scanning the labels on the shelves, his confusion grew as he realised that he recognised none of the names.
"You don't look like a death metal fan," a voice to his left caught him by surprise, making him jump.
He turned around to have his eyes meet the gaze of a woman wearing an amused smile. You couldn't help but laugh slightly at his skittishness.
"Forgive me, but it's not everyday we have a man dressed in a perfectly ironed suit come and check out the works of Morbid Angel."
After his brain caught up to him, he said, "You work here?"
You nodded, "Family business - me and my mum."
Draco didn't reply to your statement, turning back to the shelves.
"You seem a little lost, first time in a music shop?"
"Uh- yeah," he said, "My family never played music growing up." That was a lie - the Malfoys had held many a musical event, however, they took the form of private orchestral bands.
"You're joking," your expression was that of shock, "How have you lived such a musicless life?"
He shrugged.
"God, I was practically raised on music- I mean, obviously," you gestured around you, "It's everything to me."
"My father was a very strict man," he said simply, making you hum.
"I see. God, I just can't believe you've hardly listened to music - we have to change that," you said, "Do you have any idea what sort of sounds you like?"
"I think I like classical music," it was all he had ever really known.
You grinned, "Yeah, that definitely suits the way you're dressed more than death metal. Come on, I'll set you up with some stuff. Vinyls, CDs or tapes?"
From what he could gather, vinyls were the larger circles, and he was pretty sure that Malfoy Manor had a phonograph with the large brass tube attached for the purpose of playing them. Like the one he saw at the Yule Ball all those years ago. "Uh, vinyl? The big black disc?"
You bobbed your head, "They're becoming less popular these days - people mostly want CDs," you then paused for a moment, "Although my mum said they'll probably have a resurgence in another twenty years. Making an aesthetic of past trends and all that."
Draco listened curiously as you babbled on about different musicians, bands, and albums, finding himself enraptured by the way you carried yourself. Salazar, his father would throw a fit if he found out that he was willingly talking to a muggle.
But his father wasn't there.
"So, do any of these interest you?" you finished, smiling at the ever stoic man before you.
"Uh, yes- all of them," he wasn't sure if he liked the music genre you suggested or the way you talked so passionately.
"All of them?" you tilted your head, "That's- like- hundreds of pounds."
He began digging around in his pockets for the money he had exchanged earlier before coming, and your eyes widened at the sight of all the twenty pound notes.
"Right," you said in a state of shock, "I'll... ring these up for you."
As you totalled up the price and packaged the vinyls into a bag over at the till, the man watched you, as if he was meticulously detailing your every move. Weirdly, it didn't feel creepy.
"Okay that will be... £404.39," you said, in awe of the fact he seemed unfazed by the number.
He began counting out the notes, before handing them over to you: £420 worth of twenty pound notes in your hand. You counted the change out and handed it back to him, placing the receipt in the bag.
"Thank you for shopping here, come again..." you trailed off, realising you didn't know his name.
"Draco," he said, stopping himself before saying his last name. Although he knew that you wouldn't recognise it anyway.
You couldn't help but think that he had a peculiar name; regardless, you smiled, and said, "Y/N. Please come again."
He nodded, taking the bag and leaving the shop swiftly without so much as looking back once.
***
A week passed by and Draco found himself stood outside of the record shop, unsure of why he had returned. During his last visit he had purchased months worth of music, so really he had no need to be back.
Except, he did.
His social circle had been non-existent ever since the Battle of Hogwarts, not because Blaise Zabini and Pansy Parkinson and Theodore Nott no longer wanted to be friends with him, but because he had isolated himself in Malfoy Manor with his mother. Draco was nearing being ready to owl them again, but reconnecting with them meant inevitably having to unpack the events of the war.
With a muggle stranger like you, however, there was no unpacking to do.
"Draco, you're back," you grinned, coming out from behind the till, "I was hoping you would."
"Why?"
His abrupt question caught you off guard, "Well, I- I don't know. You're an interesting character," that and you thought he was cute.
Draco stared blankly at you, making you shift uncomfortably on your feet. Eventually, you decided to change the subject.
"Here for more music?"
"Oh, uh- yes."
"Well, what were your favourites from last week's purchases?"
After he told you which ones he had enjoyed the most, you were able to develop some kind of idea as to specific kinds of music to indulge him into. Of course, you had a question burning at the back of your mind that you simply had to ask.
"If you don't mind me asking, what do you do for a living?"
He looked up at you with slightly furrowed eyebrows.
"It's just- vinyls aren't cheap, especially not in as large a quantity as you get them," you elaborated, "I assume you have a well paying job."
Draco sighed, shaking his head, "Family money."
"You mean old money?" you couldn't help but clarify.
He reluctantly nodded, "Yes, old money." He used to be so boastful and prideful of the Malfoy family legacy, but in that moment, despite you having no idea who he was, he could only feel shame when he thought of it.
"Okay, Mr. Fancy," you chuckled, "Let's continue your musical adventure."
Even as you proceeded to serve him with a chipper attitude, you couldn't help but be saddened by learning that he was old money. There was no way that you stood a chance, since old money families liked to marry each other and not someone who was simply the daughter of a small record shop.
At least you learned that piece of information about him early on, you reasoned.
***
"Back? Again?" you questioned incredulously, spying Draco stood in the doorway of your shop, "Hate to turn you away, but we're about to close."
"I know."
You paused, frowning slightly as you grasped hold of the door, "Uh, okay, then... bye?" You began slowly shutting the door.
"Wait."
Again, you paused.
"I need help."
Opening the door fully again, you placed a hand on your hip as you said, "With regards to what?"
You didn't know what to think when he presented a small battered flip phone to you on his milky white palm.
"A phone?"
"I found it. On the floor."
"Musta fell outta someone's pocket," you shrugged, "Happens - why do you need help?"
"Well, don't we need to do something about it?"
All you could do was look at him curiously.
"Is that not- is that not what you do?" maybe he was overcompensating for his past by trying desperately to do one small good deed, or maybe he was trying to prove to you that he was a good person even though you had no reason to believe otherwise. Either way, he wanted to return the muggle contraption to its rightful owner.
"I mean- I guess? If you're feeling nice," you said simply, "Can't lie, I'd probably leave it for someone else to deal with."
"How do I return it?"
You sighed, "Just call the last person they called."
"Right, okay."
Much to your confusion, Draco stared at the device as if he was trying to will it into doing what he wanted.
"You do know how to call someone, yes?" you asked, your arms now folded across your chest.
With a sigh of defeat, he shook his head.
You rolled your eyes, stepping aside, "Come in."
Once Draco was inside your shop, you shut the door and flipped the sign from 'open' to 'closed'.
"Give it," you made a grabbing motion with your fingers, and the man before you immediately handed over the device, "It's really easy-" he watched in amazement as you flipped open the phone, "-just use the arrow buttons here to go to call history- and, oh, look! Last person they called was their mum- press the green call button and bam."
You presented the now dialling phone to him.
"They have been notified now?"
"Well, her phone will be ringing- hopefully she'll pick up."
"Pick up?"
"Hello?" a voice from the phone announced, "Cadie?"
"Hello, ma'am, your daughter dropped her phone and we found it."
"Oh, I see. Thank you- I'll let her know so she can pick it up. Where's a good place?"
As you told the concerned mother the address of your record shop, you watched Draco's intrigued expression.
You hung up, placing the phone on a nearby surface and beginning to walk to the back room, "Would you like some tea?" you asked.
He stared blankly at you for a few moments, before nodding, "Please."
"How do you take it?"
"No milk, one sugar."
You chuckled to yourself at his strange way of having tea.
***
Draco watched you as you chatted mindlessly while sipping your tea, almost entirely forgetting that he had his own cup sat to his side. Your topics were classically boring - yet so interesting to him. He was enthralled to learn about the different characters in your family, and the trials and tribulations of your school years. He hadn't even realised how little he had said until you pointed it out.
"What about you?"
"Hm?" he went, snapping out of his daze.
"I feel like I've just been talking about myself this entire time. Where did you go to school?"
"Oh- uh-" he desperately pulled together all his thoughts, "A private boarding school in Scotland."
Your mouth dropped open, "Wow, that's cool."
He shrugged.
"Did you miss your family while you were away all year?"
Again, he shrugged, "My mother, yes- my father... not so much."
"I don't see my father at all," you added, to make him feel more comfortable about sharing details of his own father, "I used to... but I realised it was always me reaching out and not him so I stopped. Haven't heard from him since."
Draco nodded, "My father is in prison."
He didn't know why he told you, only realising what he had just said when you froze for a few seconds with widened eyes.
"Can I ask what for?" you asked in a squeaky voice.
"Uh... terrorism, murder... that sort of thing," he had no clue why he was being so honest. Had you put veritaserum in the tea?
You cleared your throat, wanting to delicately change the subject but lacking a way on how to do it naturally. Draco observed you, and opened his mouth to say something more when a knock sounded on the door.
"That's- uh- that's probably the phone owner," you said quickly, rushing to your feet to run out of the back room and let them in.
You opened the door to be faced with a short brunette woman.
"Cadie?" you questioned.
She nodded, "You have my phone?"
"Yes, come in."
"Thank you so much- I really can't afford a new one right now," she sighed, "I'm always losing things."
You chuckled, "I know how you feel- I'm always breaking things."
Draco appeared in the doorway to the back and picked up the phone from the counter.
Cadie sighed happily, accepting the phone and thanking the both of you profusely.
"Seriously, you have no idea how appreciative I am."
"It's no trouble, Cadie, really," you assured her.
She paused for a moment, looking around. "Is this your shop?"
You bobbed your head, "Yes, it's family-owned."
"Oh, that's so cool," she looked towards Draco, "So this is your husband?"
You were so taken aback you couldn't even form a response. Before either of you could reply, the phone began ringing.
"It's my boss! I have to take this," she said, "Thank you so much again. You two are a cute couple." And with that final comment, she departed, leaving you and Draco in an awkward silence.
"I-" you began, but you were quickly interrupted.
"Go on a date with me," Draco hurriedly said, realising he had said it like an order rather than an innocent question. He was still in some ways his old bossy teenage self, socialised in a slightly abnormal way.
You took it in good humour, however, and smiled, "I would love to."
***
The following six months were filled with the fanciest and most luxurious dates that you could ever have possibly imagined: five star restaurants, weekends in Paris, and expensive gifts. It was heaven in all ways but one - Draco always had an excuse for you not meeting his family and friends.
For a while, you had ignored the itching feeling that he was ashamed of you and so kept you a secret, but your suspicions grew until you couldn't keep it in anymore. You had to confront him about it.
"...and I was thinking, we should go out for dinner with your mother," you said, flicking through a magazine as Draco sat on the sofa in your small but homely flat.
"When?" he asked.
"Whenever's good for her."
You heard Draco's breath hitch.
"What? Can't come up with an excuse to get out of this one?" your tone held evident bite.
Draco turned around to face you, but his expression was unreadable.
"Are you ashamed of me, Draco?"
His eyes widened.
"I know I'm not rich, let alone old money, but I'd like to think that I'm a likeable person."
He shook his head, "It's not that-"
"Then what is it, Draco?" you snapped, feeling tears fill up your eyes, "You won't even introduce me to your friends! How am I supposed to feel?"
He stood up and began shifting on his feet and fidgeting with his hands, "It's more complicated than that."
"What? You're engaged to someone else?"
Again, he shook his head, "No, nothing like that."
"Then what?" you waved your hands about, "Because I can't date someone who treats me like a secret."
"You wouldn't believe me!" he yelled, clearly unintentionally.
You were shocked: you had never heard him yell before. "Try me," you said, your voice low.
He sighed, moving around helplessly for a few moments before striding over to his bag by your front door. He reached his hand in - what appeared to be deeper than the bag's actual depth, but you dismissed it due to your blurred vision - and pulled out a blank piece of paper, tinged brown.
He came over to you and placed it on the kitchen island you were stood behind, and pointed at the bottom of the page. "Sign here."
"It's blank," you thought he was insane.
"Just trust me. Please."
You gave him a skeptical look, but wiped your eyes and picked up a pen nonetheless, writing your signature in the area he pointed to. To your amazement, the second you finished the last letter of your name, writing appeared on the paper. As you scanned it, you were increasingly confused.
- By signing this non-disclosure agreement, you agree that as a muggle you shall not disclose the existence of wizardry and witchcraft to anyone not already in knowledge of it. You understand that by doing so, you would be breaking the law and could face potential criminalisation. The wizard or witch of whom has vouched for your approval to know of magic shall also face potential criminalisation in such a situation.
It will no longer be a criminal offence for wizards and witches to perform magic with you as a witness unless there are unapproved muggles also present.
You will be granted access to wizard-only areas including but not limited to Diagon Alley and Platfrom Nine and Three Quarters at King's Cross provided that you are accompanied by a wizard or witch. Please be aware that these permissions may vary in other countries depending on their laws surrounding muggle knowledge of magic and also their acceptance of the British Muggle Non-Disclosure Agreement.
Please sign your name below. -
"What is this?" you asked, your eyebrows furrowed.
"An NDA."
"Yes, I- I gathered that- but- what does it mean?"
"It means... that I'm a wizard."
Part of you wanted to burst out laughing at Draco's insane words, but the way he said it held so much depth that you couldn't help but take it seriously.
"Prove it."
You didn't know what you had expected, but you certainly didn't anticipate your boyfriend pulling out a wand and muttering what sounded like Latin under his breath.
The pen on the table before you morphed into a feather.
There were really no words to describe how you felt in that moment. You asked him to do it again - he turned the feather into a sharpener. You asked him to do it one more time - he turned the sharpener into a fork.
"Oh my God," you said at the volume of a whisper, stepping back and falling against the counter behind you, "What the actual fuck."
"I know this may come as a shock to you..."
"Really?" you said, "No, actually. Not freaking out at all. Not even a little."
He pursed his lips, "My family is what is known as pure-bloods. We haven't mixed with muggles when it comes to reproduction at any point in our bloodline - allegedly."
You stared at him.
"Sometimes, a witch or wizard can be born of muggle parents - we call them muggle-borns. Half-bloods make up the most of wizarding society - their ancestors are a mix of muggle, muggle-born, pure-blood and half-blood."
At your lack of speech, he continued.
"There is a culture of supremacy among pure-blood families - choosing to reproduce only with other pure-bloods to ensure the pure-blooded line continues as they believe themselves to be the only true witches and wizards."
"You're pure-blood," you mumbled.
Draco nodded, "I used to think like that. Used to bully muggle-borns in school - the school I went to being specifically for witches and wizards."
"You don't think like that anymore?"
"No," he quickly said, "I've had a lot of time to question everything I was taught to believe - but, I- there's something really bad I have to tell you. It may change your opinion of me forever and it's the reason why I have kept you away from my family and friends."
You nodded, mentally preparing yourself for what he was about to tell you.
"Years ago, there was a war in the wizarding world..." he began.
***
You had never seen Draco in tears before, but when he reached the details of the final showdown between Harry Potter (a heroic celebrity in the wizarding world) and Lord Voldemort (a wizard terrorist), he broke down in sobs as he recalled him walking over to the latter's side. Tears were falling down your cheeks soon too, and you quickly brought Draco into your arms and felt him collapse into you.
"I regret it every single day," he said through sobs, "Why didn't I have more of a backbone?"
"You were just a boy, Draco," you soothed him, "You didn't want your family to be killed."
He cried harder.
"My opinion of you is not changed - by the sounds of it you never actually killed anyone yourself," you thought back to the Professor Dumbledore section of the story, "In fact, it sounds like you couldn't bring yourself to."
"I can never make up for my past, Y/N."
You stroked his hair, "You dating a muggle is pretty solid evidence you're trying to."
"I'm not dating you because you're muggle," he pulled back from you and looked you in the eyes.
You chuckled slightly, wiping the tears off his cheeks with your thumbs, "That's not what I was saying. Young you would have never even considered entering the muggle world, and yet here adult you is."
He gave you a small smile, "I love you."
You beamed, but teardrops were still cascading down your cheeks, "I love you too."
"Let's have dinner with my mother on Sunday."
***
"Mr Malfoy, you may see your father now," the Azkaban worker said, who Draco couldn't help but think reminded him strongly of Filch. An old miserable man with long scraggly hair, an unmissable limp, and filthy dark-coloured robes. Then again, at least this worker had a reason to be miserable all the time: working in the breeding ground of fear and desolation. Filch was by all means in a much more cheerful environment.
Draco nodded at him, and followed his lead down shadowed narrow corridors, caked in dirt and dust. They turned a few corners and went up a few sets of dangerously steep stairs before reaching a cell block with moans and whines coming from every cell - except one.
In all honesty, Draco hadn't known what to expect when he came to see his father: he hadn't visited once since his arrest. But Lucius looked quite different than the proud man he once was, with his once well-kept long blond hair being knotty and entwined with filth, and his once healthy (albeit pale) complexion being overly skinny with sallow sunken features. He looked up at his son, still being able to produce a slight scowl.
"So, you finally decided to visit," he drawled, but his voice was too broken to hold the same threat it used to.
"Yes, father, I have some things I need to say to you," despite Lucius' weakened state, Draco still held some lifelong fear of the man, but he had to remain strong in front of him.
"And what would that be?"
"I have a girlfriend, and I plan to propose to her."
Lucius raised an eyebrow, "Your mother has not mentioned this," Narcissa frequently visited her husband.
"She didn't find out until last week."
After some seconds of silence, Lucius slowly rose to his feet and stood face-to-face with Draco at the cell gate. "What is her name?"
"Y/N L/N."
"L/N does not ring a bell. Which bloodline is she from?"
Draco felt intimidated by his father's close proximity, but still managed a smirk, "She isn't of pure blood, Father."
Lucius' eyes widened, "You don't mean to say she's- half blood? Or worse- a- a mudblood?"
"Worse," his smirk grew, "She's muggle."
The ghostly shock that flooded over Lucius' face made Draco feel a triumph over his father he had never felt before, and gave him the confidence to feel as though he had the upper hand in their interaction. He stepped closer to the cell and lowered his voice.
"And I'm going to marry her, and have children with her, and you will have to spend the rest of your life rotting in this cell knowing that the Malfoy pure blood line has been permanently tainted."
"You can't do this," Lucius said through gritted teeth, "After everything we fought for."
Draco hummed, "See, I thought it was time for me to finally fight for something good."

I'm tired of people comparing Regulus to Severus and arguing that Regulus is better because he switched sides and sacrificed himself to switch the Horcrux.
1 — They're ignoring the fact that we barely know anything about Regulus. Personally, I see little difference between Regulus and Severus when it comes to changing sides: Regulus betrayed Voldemort after Kreacher's life was threatened, much like Severus betrayed Voldemort after Lily's life was endangered.
2 — In another comment, they claim that "Severus had no issue joining a group of mass murderers while Regulus was forced by his family." However, there is no evidence indicating that Regulus cared about Muggleborns at all. He was perfectly content with aligning himself with a group that targeted and killed both Muggles and Muggleborns until someone he cared about faced danger.
3 — If stealing a Horcrux makes Regulus a good person, then dedicating nearly half his life to the Order makes Severus an even greater person, doesn't it? Why would you highlight one character's contributions to the war while disregarding the other's?
4 — Nobody is defending Severus' mistreatment of students. Get over it. We're simply tired of people idolizing characters like Barty, Regulus and Rosier while simultaneously vilifying Severus.
5 — It was easier for Regulus Black to betray the Death Eaters than it was for Severus Snape because Regulus wasn't bound to the group through trauma. Regulus didn't join the Death Eaters because he felt it was the only place he belonged. On the other hand, Severus had nowhere else to go. He suffered abuse, bullying, and neglect his entire life. When he was sexually assaulted or nearly killed by a werewolf, nobody at school showed any type of care towards him. It was undoubtedly more difficult for Severus to betray Voldemort to join a group that had consistently shown him no concern—a group we've considered the "good side" all along.
6 — The only reason people think Regulus was a better person is because he is DEAD. We never witness him interacting with others or speaking with Muggleborns. We will never truly know what kind of person he was. It's merely an assumption that he must have been an angel who was forced to join a group full of mass murderers. (Get your headcanon out of my face.)
7 — Comparing a privileged, wealthy child who never experienced any form of discrimination his whole entire life to a child born in poverty and constantly bullied for merely existing is very weird. Naturally, they would exhibit different behaviors.
To clarify, I love Regulus Black, but believing that he is better than Severus, who devoted his entire life to the Order, is very wrong.

Tumblr media
There were four simple rules that Y/N needed to follow since she could talk and understand what she was being told.
The first one was that she could never, ever in her whole life disobey her father – he was the only one who cared for her, for her future, for her dignity and he was the only one who wished to see her become a strong and powerful witch; that’s what he claimed, at least.
The second one was that she was not allowed to ever question the Dark Lord’s word – her father said that Tom Riddle, his old friend, was the one who told him to keep her, to raise her and protect her as a father should. In other words, she has a dad because a bald snake-looking man said she was worth the effort.
The third one, one with a great significance, was that she should not interact with Mudbloods more than necessary – which was, in her opinion, pretty confusing, given the fact that Voldemort himself was a Half-blood. But, she could not put that problem to a question because she would break rule number one and rule number two at the same time.
The last one was simple – don’t be a disappointment, don’t ruin the family’s image.
And that’s how she lived her life until her first year at Hogwarts. That’s when she started to disobey her dad by giving up on rule number three and talk to all her colleagues – nothing more than acquaintances, though, because the other Purebloods could mock her for doing so. She learned that everyone should be treated equally, no matter the blood that was running in their veins – they were all wizards, after all. That’s a reason she got close to James Potter last year, in her fourth one. The older boy was shocked to see a Slytherin act that politely towards a first-year Muggleborn Gryffindor and jokingly asked her if she was sick. He said she was not like the others. He said she was quite nice.
They had a few other accidental meetings in the hallway, and without realizing Y/N started to get nervous around him; her heart would beat faster when she’d hear his voice in the Great Hall and her cheeks would burn when she’d wake up from another dream about him – that was her first crush ever. While at the final party of the year, where only a few Slytherins were invited – it was hosted by the Marauders, after all – Y/N was kissed by James. The party was at the end, she wanted to leave and he offered to walk her back to the Dungeons. It was the best night of her life, she finally felt seen, heard, liked. Maybe it was because of their encounters, maybe because James could see behind her social mask or maybe it was simply because of all the firewhiskey and beer, but he kissed her. He really kissed her, right at the door of the Slytherin’s common room. He grabbed her waist, cupped her cheek and even groaned against her lips when she gathered the courage to put her hands in his dark curly hair. He smiled at her and wished her a great summer, and then walked off backwards, still watching her.
That’s why she was excited all summer to get back at Hogwarts. That’s why she was determined to learn more about Muggleborns, to change her life and morals. That’s why she started fighting her father when he’d open the topic of marriage – James was, of course, a Pureblood, as Cyrus wished for his only child, but he was also a blood traitor. She never told her dad about him, but she wouldn’t even once let him get the idea that she was willing to marry one of his friends’ sons. They were all pricks, and she was only thinking about James.
That’s why her heart broke on the train – he wouldn’t even look at her. That’s why now, a few days after, she still looks like the train hit her. That’s what she thought, at least, because everyone else complimented her new jewelry, her hair, her nail polish, every stupid and insignificant thing. Her eyes had dark circles under them, her skin felt strange and her appetite was nowhere to be found.
“Don’t you like the porridge?” asks Evan and points to her bowl.
His sister, Pandora, gets her head out of the tarot book and scoff in disapproval. “Could you mind your business, Evan?” She should be at the Ravenclaw table, but she really likes to spent time with them.
Y/N only smiles to them and pushes away the bowl. “You can have it, Evan, I’m not that hungry,” she winks in his direction and starts writing on her parchments again.
Because that’s what she does – that’s the only way not to look at the other side of the room, at the Gryffindor table. She studies over her Potions’ notes, her first class from that day. Professor Slughorn announced another meeting of the Slug Club and her new goal was to get invited, again. There are a few girls that get to be invited to those dinners, and Y/N was one of them but Horace liked to see new faces from now and then.
“You really want to go,” mutters Bruce Mulciber, looking at her with a bored expression. Edmund Avery hits his arm in a not-that-subtle manner and smiles at her widely.
“Have I ever told you how beautiful you are while studying, Y/N? So smart,” the boy says and winks in her direction.
“How disgusting,” Pandora whispers at their behavior. Y/N nods her head and smiles politely to Edmund, while wishing she could slam his head to the table until she’d see blood. But that would definitely against any existing rule – both Hogwarts’ and her father’s.
She gets up and starts gathering her belongings, taking a last sip from her tea cup. “I have to go, guys. Evan, I’ll see you in Potions, right?”
“Yeah, I have to wait for Regulus, though,” he informs her and grabs her porridge bowl, smiling thankful in her way.
Y/N laughs and grabs her parchments, drinking the remaining tea in her cup. While at it, a body slams into hers and the contact makes her to drop the tea on her notes, her white shirt and her shoes. And there’s silence.
“Sorry,” says in a blank tone no one else than Regulus Black. His uniform is perfect, his hair is put in place and he even got the chance to get away from Y/N before any drop could be on him. “I didn’t see you there.”
She wants to shout. She wants to scream at him, grab her wand and curse him. She wants him to be as embarrassed as she is now, wet and watched by the entire dining hall. But she can’t. She got her father’s temper but she learned from him how to handle it. She needs to handle it.
“Regulus,” she says in a happy tone, “Evan was waiting for you,” it’s the only thing that comes out of her mouth as she looks only at him. Not at her housemates, her friends, or even over her shoulder at the boy who froze there with his friends, who are laughing at her.
“Yeah, I know,” he mutters. “Let’s go, Rosier,” he demands in a now friendly voice. “Horace is waiting in the classroom; he probably wants to talk about the Slug Club.”
That’s when Y/N forgets about everything and in the silence of her mind there is only Regulus’ voice. He probably wants to talk about the Slug Club. Still with a smile on her face, she gets her robes from the bench, wave goodbye to her friends and starts walking away. She cannot resists the temptation and looks at the Gryffindor table. He’s there, with Sirius on his left, laughing with his friends.  After she leaves the Great Hall there’s a feeling of pressure on her whole body. Was he laughing of her? He could never, right? She was quite nice, after all.
Before entering the Potions class, she stood there for a few minutes, calming down. Now she’s putting on her dark robes, the silver snake shining on the green badge. As she’s buttoning it up, the steps of her colleagues echo through the dark corridor.
“There you are, Y/N,” sights Evan. He’s followed by Barty Crouch Jr and Regulus, who watches her like she’s sick with a blood curse. “You went ahead without looking back.”
“Oh, yeah, I got to make sure my robes cover the whole…” she looks only for a second at Regulus, “tea accident.” She says it while chuckling, like it was just a silly little accident which could happen to anyone. But not anyone would get away clean like he did after that kind of an accident.
“And yet you look worse than before,” Regulus speaks and his eyes points at her now clearly stained shirt. “Let’s go, boys, I’m sure Y/N knows how to dress herself,” he scoffs and smiles to her.
The other two boys follow him along and she sits there, blood boiling in her veins. Her anger is born because of two persons – her father, because he’d kill her if she was arguing with another Pureblood in public, especially Orion Black’s son, and Regulus Black, for being such and arse.
Horace Slughorn, however, didn’t seem to be that preoccupied by her entrance. He greeted her and went on with his lesson and for Merlin knows what time she finds herself thinking about Regulus, and how she’d strangle him with the tie around his neck if given the opportunity. Regulus has that power, to awake something in her that only wants to hurt him, to make him suffer and get out those cold eyes – maybe she could make a pair of earrings out of them. He was right besides her, sitting with Evan while she tried to ignore Barty’s jokes about their professor. Sometimes, she wishes so much to be away from them – she feels suffocated to be near them at school and also at home, when her father would take her with him at different events, but there’s no way that she could cross his word. You will act nice towards any pureblood kid, they are the only ones that deserve it – they are you only equals.
“That’s all for today, my dear students,” announces Slughorn and claps his hands together. “You have to write an essay about today’s lesson, in order for me to see that everything was very clear.”
She puts away her quill and ink and starts rolling the parchments that she took notes on. Barty plays drums in the wood of the table and Evan hits him behind his head with his notes. The two of them laugh and she can’t help but her Regulus’ scoff at their silly action.
“Oh, Mister Black, Miss Lestrange, could you stay for a little? I have something to tell you,” Slughorn says happily and goes over to his desk at the front of class.
“Yes, professor,” they both say and get up. They both also look at each other, eyes burning with annoyance.
“We’ll see you outside, ok?” asks Evan.
“Go on, don’t wait,” is the only answer he receives from Regulus before he goes first to Slughorn, Y/N right after him.
“Oh, my two favorite students!” the professor says as they remain alone in the classroom. “I hope the first days where excellent, kids.”
“Of course, sir,” Y/N smiles and Slughorn can’t help but lays his eyes a little longer on her, on her clothes. She was the only one that wore the robes during class.
“How are your parents, hm?” His question sits uneasy on them both. Y/N does not look at Regulus, Regulus does not look at Y/N – they both hope the other one will talk first.
And because she remembers her father’s words, she opens her mouth. “My father sends his greetings, sir. He got me a new potions book that I’ve read over the summer,” she says and accepts happily the proud nod from her professor.
“Very good, I’m pleased to hear that the vacation didn’t stop your liking for studying,” he laughs in a soft manner. “Right, Regulus? Miss Lestrange here sure is a great housemate, keeping our pride safe,” now is the Horace Slughorn, Head of Slytherin, that’s talking.
She sees with the corner of her eye that his body tenses. “Of course, professor,” he forces himself to say.
“Right,” Horace claps his hands together again, excited. “You two are the brightest students in my house, that’s the reason I’m sure you two will be also the brightest Prefects that Hogwarts has and will ever see!” He hands them the green badges, the word PREFECT being written on it with silver letters. “I’m sure you’ll make me very proud, children,” he says.
“You can be sure of it, sir. We’ll do our best,” Y/N smiles and looks at the metal badge from between her fingers.
“That’s all,” the professor says. “Come on, go to your business, I have another class now.”
She bites her tongue and smiles polite at him, before turning around.
“What about the Slug Club, sir?”
Regulus Black was not the most talkative person Y/N knew, but he sure was stubborn.
“Oh, Merlin, I nearly forgot! Of course, Mister Black, you and Miss Lestrange are more than welcome, I thought that’s already settled,” he said and smiled at them – Horace Slughorn wanted to make sure that the kids of two important families in the Wizarding World liked him as a teacher.
As soon as they leave the class, Regulus scoffs, the sound echoing in the corridor. “Maybe you’ll learn how to dress now that I’m forced to spend even more time with you.”
His voice is mocking, rude and teasing. Now that they’re alone, they can finally act how they really wish to. Y/N grabs the wand from her robes’ pocket and points it at Regulus, who’s now pressed against the stone wall and grins at her.
“If you ever try to outsmart me again, Black, I swear I’m gonna Crucio you,” she spats the words in his face and only for a second Regulus’ face drops, his eyes looking at the tip of the wand before returning at her face.
“Only if you’d be capable of doing something like that, you pathetic try of a witch,” he says and grabs her wand, pushing it away from his face.
“You really have a death wish?” she asks annoyed by his eyes that watch her with superiority, his curved lips that laugh at her.
“Careful, Y/N, you wouldn’t want you-know-who to find out what a brave and cruel witch you are, right? He may like it,” he laughs and walks away from her, leaving her alone at the door of the Potions’ class.
For a moment, she’s alone. And there’s silence. She looks at the green badge in her hand and exhales all the air in her lungs. And then, there’s laughter. And there’re steps which walk in her direction, and she wants to leave but she freezes pressed against the wall, right where Regulus was only a moment ago.
James Potter is walking beside a ginger girl; tall and beautiful and dressed in a red uniform, matching his. He makes her laugh as she’s playfully hitting his arm, telling him to stop. Y/N just stays there, and James doesn’t even seem to notice her. But the girl does – Y/N recognizes her as Lily Evans, the Muggleborn girl in James’ year. Lily’s green eyes watch Y/N as she sits there, badge in her hand, and the older witch smiles at her. She ignores James for a moment, giving Y/N a thumbs-up before pointing to her red badge, which had written HEADGIRL on it.
As they enter the room, Y/N starts walking away. She feels sad, maybe, heartbroken, even. She’s not sure. But she’s sure that she’s furious, angry, mad. Her father was right. Mudbloods and blood traitors deserve nothing.
And that’s only because James Potter picked the green eyes over the green badge.

Twst Boys Dormleaders + MC Blood Status
Harry Potter au
A/N: I thought this would be fun to make because twst wonderland is like Harry Potter in a way, especially for MC. Now if you aren’t familiar with blood status or Harry Potter in general, it’s essentially: Purebloods- someone who comes from a long ancestry of wizards and witches with no non magic blood within them/Half bloods- someone who has magic and non human magic blood within them/ Muggleborn- someone who has very little to no magic blood within them but still ended up being a witch or wizard despite having non magic parents/Muggle- someone with zero wizard and witch ancestry.
MC
Tumblr media
Muggle-born
Mc is a muggle-born for obvious reasons
It’s most likely to be assumed that before they transported to twisted wonderland, they had no magical parents and very little wizard/witch ancestry
Another reason they could have magical blood in them is because they are able to participate in some magical things in twisted wonderland; like making potions and flying a broom
Mc has little to no knowledge of blood status, so you can imagine how confused they were when some students were looking at them disgusted because they were a muggle-born
But ultimately being a muggle-born doesn’t bother them because they’re just glad to be in a fun place like NRC and be around people who care about them
Riddle Rosehearts
Tumblr media
Pure-blood
He gives off pure-blood energy given how talented and resourceful he is with magic and his childhood
His mother also would be the type of person to discriminate against anyone who isn’t a pure-blood
He definitely grew up thinking that just because he’s a pure-blood, he’s superior to everyone else, but after meeting Trey and Chenya and ESPECIALLY after his overblot, his views changed
Now he wasn’t a HEAVY discriminator when he was younger, in fact his mother most likely taught him to have negative views and he secretly questioned it, but he still thought lowly of other blood status’
But now that he’s at NRC and his overblot was behind him, he is not opposed to interacting and making friends with anyone who isn’t a pureblood
Leona Kingscholar
Tumblr media
Half-blood
He is a half-blood given his appearance. He’s LITERALLY a half lion and half human
His human blood would have to start somewhere in his ancestry a long long time ago.
In fact, it’s assumed that most of the Savannaclaw dorm population are half-bloods
He really doesn’t care about blood status or blood pride
He finds that people who think that they are superior solely because of their blood are utterly ridiculous.
He doesn’t care who he associates with, he finds most people annoying equally lol
He’s been taught from a young age to respect anyone no matter their background, race, blood type
Azul Ashengrotto
Tumblr media
Half-blood
This is a similar situation as Leona’s. Because of Azul’s birth appearance, half octopus and half human, he is considered a half blood.
When he was younger, he was not only bullied because of his weight, but also because of his blood status.
It could be that the mer-children who couldn’t do magic, known as muggles, were jealous of him because he could do magic and they couldn’t.
Back then he didn’t take pride in his blood status, but now at NRC he’s proud of who he is, especially after his overblot
He doesn’t discriminate against blood status because he himself knows how it feels to be judged based on blood
Kalim Al Asim
Tumblr media
Pure-blood
He definitely gives off the vibe of coming from a long family of witches and wizards.
He and his family would NEVER discriminate against other blood status’, everyone is equal in their eyes (as they should!)
He’s proud of who he is but he doesn’t make his blood status his entire personality as pure-bloods who are stuck up do
If he sees other pure-bloods students at NRC trying to pick on students who are anything besides pure-blood, he immediately stands up for them
Vil Schoenheit
Tumblr media
Pure-blood
Come on, just look at him. He’s definitely a pure-blood wizard. His aura practically SCREAMS pure-blood
Same as Kalim he would NEVER discriminate against other blood status’s. He was taught better than that. And besides, that would be a very ugly thing to do. And Vil Schoenheit is most certainly not ugly
He does absolutely NOT tolerate any mistreatment towards other blood status’s in Pomefiore
He is proud of who he is but believes that there’s always room for improvement even for himself
He feels that being a pure-blood isn’t enough to be declared the fairest. It also takes perseverance, integrity, and wit
Idia Shroud
Tumblr media
Half-blood
If one of his parents were to be the non magical human, his mother would be the one
He takes after his father, who is the magical one, than his mother
He doesn’t discriminate against blood status because he simply doesn’t see the point, besides even if he was against muggleborns, he wouldn’t have the balls actually go up to one and hate because he’s so anti-social
He also doesn’t have extreme pride in his blood status because his priorities are else where
Malleus Draconia
Tumblr media
Pure-blood
He’s a pure-blood because it can be imagined that one of the most powerful wizards in NRC, him, would no doubt be a pure-blood
In fact it’s assumed that most Faes are pure-blood just like him
He doesn’t discriminate against other blood status’ but there are tons of Faes back in his hometown that do
(*coughs* Sebek)
He’s actually in fact curious about other blood races and wants to know more about them, that’s one of the reasons why he’s not opposed to being MC’s friend, aside from not being afraid of him of course
He thinks it’s amusing but also utterly ridiculous that humans can be so judgy of each other over the smallest things, including blood race

Hey! I was wondering if you think James and Sirius used to be bullies but grew out of it, like matured for the war or other things. I've seen that they are portraited as good angels from the start but that doesn't make sense. If they were good people and perfect then why The Prank? Why did Lily hate James? Why did Snape hate James?
Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but okay...
i personally think that they weren’t bullies per se, however i think that growing up in a narrow and conservative society (the last one is especially true in sirius’ case) definitely had an impact on the way they interacted with people that were not from their sphere of influence. their privileged upbringing showed in the way they acted, most especially in their first few years of being away from home.
why the prank, you ask? well, i really have no answer for you. the prank, to some extent, seems out of character from sirius (one of sirius’s defining traits is known to be loyalty, and his action in this case does not denote loyalty at all), however it might just be some kind of twisted “teenage fun”, which makes it even worse, because i think that shows what kind of cruelty sirius is capable of.
why did snape hate james? (i will answer this question because tackling with the other questions really ties into this one.) because of their rivalry. their relationship is described as a rivalry, resembling the one of harry and draco. it might have been jealousy (since james was “the star” of the school; quidditch captain, popular, highly intelligent and influential, et cetera) combined with their already (it started literally on the train to hogwarts) existing animosity.
why did lily hate james? i think the fact that her best friend and him were rivals really plays a part in it. seeing the relationship between them, the taunting and teasing and everything else (she knew about the shrieking shack/whomping willow event, too. not the details of it, she just knew something happened.) definitely made her take a, admittedly slightly biased, approach to the situation.
i think they grew out of it mostly from mingling with the other people in their new sphere of influence. i also think sirius had to unlearn a lot more than james, because james’ family is proudly and openly anti-muggle and muggleborn discrimination, while the black family are known to be if not directly implicated, at least agreeing with voldemort’s ideologies, which include the targeting of muggles and muggleborns. i think the prank also had an effect on them, especially james, and maturing is something that happens in all people’s lives, so that might have been a factor for their “change of heart” too.

Today ı think about a conversation did Grindelwald discriminate muggleborns or halfbloods. I can certainly say, no. First I always believe Gellert is muggleborn or halfblood so he can understand muggle's discriminate to differences to wizard and think muggles have nothing but prejudice. Also is make sense with Gellert left his family behind, maybe they see magic as dangerous and a sint. The point he want freedom that muggle's don't attack wizards make sense with this. He see muggles think wizards are evil if he is pureblood he barely see muggles and his ideas aren't depend on sense. But we all know Gellert have sense of his ideology. So i never think Gellert discriminate any creature with magic.
Tumblr media
I need more backstory and au for Grindelwald and Dumbledore. Their story is most interesting and engrossing story in HP universe

Hellooo , so i saw ur post on what the marauders would do if voldemort didn't exist and i was just wondering, what about Barty, Evan, Pandora, Mary, Dorcas, and the rest of them?
Hello Anon!
I don't remember well my post, it was a long time ago, but I will try:
Barty: I see him being into the supernatural (even for wizards). Meaning he would do researchs about ghosts. How they come to be? Why some people stay as ghosts and others don't? How can they go to the afterlife. He would have entire books written about ghosts and death. He would be an expert in the subject.
Evan: For me this character is a stranger because I haven't read any fics with him in them. So I feel like I don't know him at all. But for the little I've seen about him in the Fandom, I think maybe a wizard stylist? A tattoo artist? I don't know.
Pandora: I think she would create her own brand of potions and beverages that she invented in her life. (something like Snape creating his own mean spells). And she would have her own brand called Pandora's box. Many people would be exceptical to try her things because for wizards it would be what we know as alternative medicine in this case alternative magic. But she has clients. And she would be very popular amongst them.
Mary: I see her as a stylist. She would have her own brand of clothes famous and known for mixing wizard robes and Muggle clothes, creating a unique style. She would have a shop in each wizard town.
Dorcas: I see her fighting for magical creatures' rights. She would defend anyone who is a minority. She has an establishment. She would give shelter to those squibs who are tossed to the street. Or those muggleborns who are discriminated. Or those creatures who have nowhere else to go. That includes werewolves. And all sorts of LGBTQ+ magical folks. In every riot or protest, she would be.
And I am sorry, but I don't remember who I have written about and who I am missing but I hope this works for you :)

Pureblood Purists Actually Have Valid Concerns
Disclaimers
Before I start my post let me make 2 disclaimers since some people have a tendency to twist words on Tumblr:
Not all blood purists were death eaters. I am not condoning DE terrorism here. I am referring to people who held pureblood beliefs but never fought in a war to oppress people.
Harry Potter is a fictional world. My arguments are not meant to be extended to the real world.
Assumption about Magic
JKR does not specify the origin of magic. Is it like ATLA where it's a spiritual kind of thing and people are blessed by Lady Magic? Or is it a gene thing and wizards are a subspecies of human? For me, I am going to go with magic being a gene thing. If magic was like bending in ATLA then wizards should not be such a tiny minority.
Missed Potential of Umbridge Interrogation Scene
This post was inspired by Book 7, Chapter 13 – The Muggle-born Registration Commission. Specifically, the part where Umbridge is interrogating this poor muggle-borne woman named Mrs Cattermole.
‘Could you please tell us from which witch or wizard you took that wand?’
Umbridge's line of questioning is so ridiculous and JKR missed a golden opportunity to introduce some nuance here. She paints all purebloods who are not blood traitors as evil/bigoted. Just because this is a kid's book it does not mean she has to treat kids like idiots. Instead of painting purebloods as bigoted fools who believe magic can be stolen or sadists making up crack in this sham kangaroo court, she could have used this dialogue to present valid and ignored concerns of purebloods. Instead of crap like this, the Voldemort regime could be jailing purebloods who married muggles or mugglebornes on the count of them diluting their race. Or maybe firing half-bloods and mugglebornes and giving those jobs to purebloods. These actions are still wrong but at least they would be rational and add some depth. And purebloods have serious cause for concern. Let me point out 5.
Concern 1 - Existence of Squibs
In the books, we don't know the blood status of the parents of prominent squibs like Filch. But I bet the likelihood of your kid being a squib increases dramatically if one of the parents is muggleborne.
It makes sense to me that mugglebornes could be descendants of squibs. Making mugglebornes basically muggles who won the genetic lottery. In book 2 I think, Arthur claimed Granger was a historical wizard figure and asked Hermione if she bore a relation to him. She denies this but what if someone in the Granger family was a squib in the past and years later she got lucky?? So basically if you mate with a muggleborne, you are basically reproducing with a muggle. Which in turn increases the chances of a squib kid. Squibs can't function in the magic world properly.
Concern 2 - Wizards are a minority
Wizards are a minority in a muggle majority. It's a fact that minorities are wiped out when they reproduce with the majority.
Hagrid says this in book 2:
“Dirty blood, see. Common blood. It’s mad. Most wizards these days are half-blood anyway. If we hadn’t married Muggles we’d’ve died out.”
If Hagrid is right and most wizards are half-blood, how is this a good thing? Given enough time, if wizards keep diluting their race like this by reproducing with muggles, the wizard minority will slowly be erased which leads to...
Concern 3 - Cultural Erasure
It's more than just blood dilution but loss of tradition. Even if a muggleborne like Hermione integrates into the wizarding world, she will never truly grasp certain customs and traditions that pureblood families like the Weasleys and Malfoys will. For example, I came to the US for college. Even though I have been here for half a decade now, I will never understand what it is like to grow up as a kid in the US. I don't appreciate US holidays like Thanksgiving and Memorial Day. My kid likely will but they will have to learn those customs from an external source or maybe my future husband's family. Someone like Hermione may even see some pureblood/wizarding traditions as archaic and unnecessary. Over time, wizards will lose their culture and practically become muggles with magic. Which is why Hermione being minister of magic sometimes leaves a sour taste in my mouth. There's a reason why only born citizens can become president/prime minister for countries like the US (I would like to believe there is a reason anyway).
Concern 4 - Reproductive Issues?
Also, why did wizards need muggles to survive in the first place? Were the women/men having fertility issues? Was the wizarding population so minuscule that they were inbreeding? Or were they simply just horny for muggles? If small native/African tribes are/were able to survive without reproducing with white invaders or other outsiders why is it different for wizards??
Concern 5 - Lack of New Blood
Still focusing on Hagrid's quote. Let's say every pureblood family started with a muggleborne wizard/witch. Therefore given enough generations, Granger could theoretically become a pureblood name like Malfoy or Weasley. But there's a problem: there aren't enough mugglebornes!
Read Hagrid's quote carefully. He said wizards would have died out if they did not intermarry with muggles. Not that wizards would have died out without mugglebornes adding to the population!
This further adds to my blood dilution argument. Basically, we have a fixed magical gene pool which is being stretched every generation with more and more half-bloods being popped out.
Conclusion
Pureblood purists have rational reasons to favour blood purity and to be frustrated with "blood traitors". As more pureblood families like the Weasleys intermarry with muggles/mugglebornes, there is an ever-smaller marriage pool for purebloods. Throw in cultural dilution too.
If JKR wanted to add depth to the muggleborne discrimination, she should have shown how mugglebornes are critical to the survival of wizarding kind and how much purebloods actually need them. Maybe show them using their muggle knowledge to improve wizarding society while she's at it too? But it's like muggebornes like Lily and Hermione have amnesia and forget all about their muggle background! At least make wizards reap the benefit of magic and technology to balance out the issues of reproducing with mugglebornes and muggles.
I just wish JKR could have given purebloods more of a voice. Not all purebloods are crazy, bloodthirsty DEs or Dumbledore bootlickers. And oftentimes, there are reasons behind discrimination that should be examined and explored, instead of just demonized. Harry Potter is seven books worth of wasted potential. I don't know how anyone can say JKR was excellent at world building when the wizarding world feels so tiny and incomplete.

One of my favorite headcanons is that Lily has some of the highest body counts in the Order.
She has been using the killing curse since she was 16. The first time Lily killed someone with it was after her friendship breakup with Sev. She was so angry, so full of rage at the discrimination that her kind was subjected to, so hateful at losing her first connection to magic to shitty prejudices. Lily is just in her 6th year then, but she feels like she's aged years from the loneliness and yet gone back to being a lonely child cursed as a freak by her sister. And the Avada leaves her wand and there's a dead pureblood at her feet, mouth still open to call her a mudblood.
While on the battlefield, most of the deaths she causes are with simple curses, handy little potion vials she made herself that disappear without leaving any traces and (very rarely) plain old muggle knives. James keeps hiding the bodies and destroying evidence so that no one, not even the Order, finds out that his wife is crazy lol. But he very much supports her because no one deserves to get away with some blood supremacist murder than muggleborns. And he knows that Lily doesn't delight in the killings, doesn't even like the killing curse. He hears her confide in Mary how easily the spell comes to her. How she just has to think of her first ever magical friend calling her a mudblood and the curse escapes her wand without her even calling for it. James should feel afraid, but he only waits for her in their bed and hugs her close. He feels Lily's hands crawl up his shirt to rest on his heart. She tells him how his acceptance, his love for all parts of her, muggle and witch, means everything to her. It reminds her how the world isn't all prejudice and war.
However, Lily knows that every living Death Eater means more of her kind murdered, more of her parent's, her sister's kind murdered. And so she makes it a point to leave a few less living breathing Death Eaters in this world every time she's in the battlefield. Behind her all encompassing love for the ones who are hers completely, there's a very vicious woman who's willing to do whatever it takes to keep them safe, to keep herself safe.

IPKKND Characters x Hogwarts!
It’s November and that means a HP marathon (which I has been now accomplished!😂) ofcourse, my mind relates everything back to IPK and thus I decided to sort all the characters into hogwarts houses 🙈 literally a post no one asked for but hey, here you go! 💗
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My reasonings:
1. Arnav- Arnav is most likely a mix of Gryffindor and Slytherin, he exhibits many Slytherin qualities however what made me sort him into Gryffindor is his strong sense of honour; his honour and care for his loved one trumps all else, he would risk his life to protect the ones he loves, negating Slytherin’s key trait of self preservation also his anger, impulsivity and brashness are all very Gryffindor traits (in fact the more I think about it, he’s almost the epitome of a true Gryffindor!).
2. Khushi- I debated Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, Khushi posses all the traits of a Hufflepuff; kindness, loyalty, hard work and perseverance however, I just didn’t feel comfortable sorting her there, Khushi has a very quick mind, a very strong sense of curiosity and is a bundle of creativity. I think she would surely be sorted into Ravenclaw as she would flourish more in that house …she reminds me of a Desi Luna Lovegood! 🙈❤️
3. Akash - I guess he could fit into Hufflepuff but he just seems so Ravenclaw!
4. Payal- I couldn’t think of a house better for her than Hufflepuff, but I imagine Payal to have a secret Slytherin streak.
5. Shyam- SLYTHERIN! (But alternatively, I reluctantly suppose he could fit into Ravenclaw too).
6. Anjali- Hufflepuff. Just, Hufflepuff. That’s it.
7. NK- Hufflepuff because again, he exhibits all traits such as fierce loyalty and kindness. If not Hufflepuff, I wouldn’t be mad at NK being sorted into Gryffindor.
8. Lavanya- Lavanya is an example of a GOOD Slytherin; she’s ambitious, independent, intensely loyal, resourceful and a flaw could be her arrogance ( justified😂) … La could also be a Hufflepuff or even a Gryffindor.
Bonus round - Patronus and HP related Headcanons!
Arnav: Tiger Patronus, I can imagine Arnav being a naturally gifted at occlumency, naturally gifted with non verbal magic and potions. Particularly enjoys defence against the dark arts.
Khushi: Doe/Hare Patronus (leaning more towards Doe), Khushi would enjoy care of magical creatures, divination and herbology …all subjects that Arnav turns his nose up at, until it’s Khushi’s apt for these subjects that help save his life. 🙈
Shyam- Cobra Patronus, he’s very good at legilimency, has an apt for memory charms and a secret interest in dark magic.
Payal- Otter Patronus, Payal rival’s Arnav in potions, she has a strange fascination with muggles and muggle studies, and advocates against discrimination against muggleborns.
Akash- Owl Patronus, he’s very gifted in charms and studying ancient tunes, he finds Payal’s passion towards muggles endearing and often tries to find creative ways to support her endeavours in integrating muggle culture into the wizard world (is supported by an enthusiastic Khushi and Anjali, and a nonchalant Arnav).
Anjali- Swan Patronus, Anjali loves learning about the history of magic and greatly enjoys all magical traditions, she’s decent with potion making but her true passion is herbology ( Anjali and Arnav have their own private Herbology greenhouse, it’s the only place Arnav shows is his tender side, as Arnav grows closer to Khushi, he allows her entry into his greenhouse …as Khushi also shares a passion for the subject). Anjali’s true talent lies within her transfiguration skills 🥰
NK- Monkey Patronus, NK likes magical pranks and goofing off, also has an obsession with quidditch.
Lavanya- Peacock Patronus. La is brilliant at charms, she and Khushi bond over divination (much to Arnav’s aggravation). They spend much time hunched over, trying to read each other’s tea leaves!
I hope you enjoyed this rather silly post! Just thought it would be a fun idea 🥰

blood supremacy in harry potter is at a crossroads between xenophobia/racism (not as we understand it), ableism and classism but with jkr having no in depth of understanding of these issues, it really ends up in a sort of twilight zones where power dynamics are incomprehensible. and considering power dynamics have everything to do with discrimination, it's really frustrating
(i'd mention speciesism for the way centaurs, house elves etc are treated but that's a common problem in fantasy. besides, the parallels between centaurs and secluded indigenous communities + house elves and chattel slavery are so fucked up i think analysing it is just gonna make me mad. she should have never touched that with a ten foot pole)
wizard-raised magicals are both the minority according to the subtext (witch burnings, smaller population, inability to blend in, need for their locations to remain hidden) with muggles being their dominant counterpart and the majority because they essentially hold the power to fight back on a higher level than muggles do. hence the xenophobia/racism parallel, which is incomprehensible because of the way the lines between oppressor and oppressed are blurred. she also tried to make it a parallel to antisemitism but talking about that is not my place i think. from what i said before i'd imagine the problem with that is kind of obvious, i mean, the subtext alone, yikes.
the pureblood-muggleborn relationship looks more like a classism thing, especially with the subtext of purebloods being wealthy and having status (+the whole blue blood idea is kinda obvious) and this idea of muggleborns being sort of upstarts encroaching on this "higher society" and introducing their commoner ways. more straight-forward than the former but even there lines are weirded out by the way muggle things really do seem to replace stuff that could be read as parts of wizard culture. muggle holidays are fic writers' favourite example of that and for good reason. how does celebrating halloween make sense? and christmas? the yule ball kind of indicates some awareness of pagan holidays and everyone swears by merlin, i doubt wizards are christian. it mostly stems from jkr thinking of worldbuilding as aesthetic rather than foundation but it really implies weird stuff about how all of those muggle things came to be introduced
the ableism discussion is the only one that has clear and delimited power dynamics but it's pretty obvious it's not done on purpose. here, squibs and muggles are clearly considered less than wizards. i'll admitmy first thought about it was like "duh? i'd rather have magic than not" then i kinda slapped myself because that is not the issue there. of course it's better to be able to do something than not. i wish i didn't have worms for brains and a high chance to inherit my mom's chronic illness. the problem is that not being abled doesn't make you less and yet, that's pretty much never argued in HP. just look at the way filch is treated. at best he is pitied, at worst mocked and scorned. it's really nasty
anyways, listing everything that's wrong in the books would take hours but i have a google docs titled "unhinged ramblings on the nature of blood supremacy in harry potter" so i thought i'd at least share the sparksnotes before deleting it

► mini profile;
Full Name: Sydney Orville Barlow Birthday: February 13th, 1892 (Aquarius) Pronouns: he/him Sexual Orientation: bisexual Hogwarts House: Slytherin
Tumblr media
►academics:
Best Subject: Charms, Transfiguration Worst Subject: Divination, History of Magic Extracurriculars: none Sydney realized early on that him being muggle-born was going to affect the way he was treated in the Wizarding World, so he came up with an elaborate lie about his heritage. Some of the school staff knew, of course, but Sydney convinced them to keep quiet about it (which wasn't difficult, since the school was more than happy to close its eyes from the discrimination faced by muggle-borns). At the age of eleven, he didn't realize the far-reaching consequences of the lie and how far he'd have to go to keep it up.
►magic:
Wand: Larch, 11 inches, phoenix feather core Strong, durable and warm in colour, larch has long been valued as an attractive and powerful wand wood. Its reputation for instilling courage and confidence in the user has ensured that demand has always outstripped supply. This much sought-after wand is, however, hard to please in the matter of ideal owners, and trickier to handle than many imagine. I find that it always creates wands of hidden talents and unexpected effects, which likewise describes the master who deserves it. It is often the case that the witch or wizard who belongs to the larch wand may never realise the full extent of their considerable talents until paired with it, but that they will then make an exceptional match. Patronus: Fire-dwelling salamander This small, fire-dwelling lizard is born out of flames and lives as long as the flames that spawned it, though it can survive outside them for up to six hours if fed properly. This Patronus represents a person that was born and/or has lived under pressing circumstances but overcomes every obstacle, getting stronger each day. People with this Patronus love challenges and are good at handling stress. They're also usually extremely passionate, ready to give their all for an idea or relationship if they feel it's the right move.
►appearence:

After the death of Tyrone's first wife Katherine, he marries Sarah. As a child, Sydney is close to his parents, but after he starts at Hogwarts, he distances himself from them to keep up his ruse about being pureblood. Tyrone and Sarah are hurt and struggle to understand the stigma around being muggleborn. Older brother: Aiden Tyrone Barlow Aiden is Sydney's half-brother from their father's first marriage, and a muggle. He is five years older than Sydney and the pair were always close as children. When Sydney starts Hogwarts and distances himself from his family, Aiden is hurt but tries to understand the politics of the Wizarding World. Aiden and Sydney reconnect during and after the Great War. FC: Matthew Settle

Friends: OPEN! Dormmates: OPEN for school years 1903-1910 Love interest: Alexej Kavinsky by @potionboy3 During the war, Sydney is taken captive by an extremist group of Anti-Muggle wizards due to his blood status. Alexej saves his life and the two keep running into each other afterwards. FC: Tom Schilling

►about:
While the Sorting Hat couldn't be fooled about his blood status, it saw great potential for Sydney in Slytherin, so it put him there. Slytherin rarely, if ever, accepted any other than pure-blood students, so Sydney had to be clever and careful to survive. He made friends as well as rivals, and left school with excellent marks in Charms, Transfiguration, and DADA. He considered becoming an auror but decided against it in fear of being discovered as a muggle-born. His secret leaked out anyway, thanks to an old school rival of his. Sydney retreated from the Wizarding World despite promising career options at the Ministry. He returned to his family to make amends and joined the army as his brother had done. Sydney is ambitious and cunning, as befits his placement in Slytherin. He's a practiced liar and throws himself easily into any role if it benefits him. He's not malicious, though, and rarely goes out of his way to hurt others. He has a sense of humour and appreciates that in others too. He's not a very open person, though he can make one believe that they know him. He tells the truth more often than not, because the big lies are easier to keep up that way. He doesn't hold strong convictions or loyalty to any cause, and prefers to keep his options open but ultimately he wants to do what he feels is right.
