The USA committed serious war crimes in response to 9/11, and a lot of people I know spoke out about it at the time. That was the right thing to do. It’s still right. I just don’t remember a single person ignoring, dismissing or (my god) defending the heinous acts committed on 9/11 while they did so. The only difference I see is Jewish victims.

It’s been truly devastating to witness so many people come out of the closet.

Hitler's American Friends by Bradley W. Hart

Subtitled: "The Third Reich's Supporters in the United States"

California State University assistant professor Bradley W. Hart explores the Americans who supported Adolf Hitler and/or Nazi ideals in the years leading up to and through World War II and America's intervention. Some were unwitting dupes, some were rabid followers, but many were in position of power and influence. This includes Father Charles Coughlin, a radio Roman Catholic priest whose rhetoric moved into anti-Semitism and organized militia-style gangs who would beat up anyone they believed to be Jewish; Charles Lindbergh who was the darling of the isolationists and privately considered by America First to be a potential figurehead for the American Nazi movement; and various members of Congress who used their positions to mail out German propaganda using their franking privileges.

I recommend NOT skipping the Introduction as it will provide a lot of backstory and information about what Hart will discuss in greater detail in the following chapters. Frankly, the Introduction and Afterword are worth the price of admission alone.

I devoured this in one long day, enthralled by how Hart's writing style was so easy to read. This is a favorite part of history for me as I'm constantly fascinated about how easily people were lured into fascist beliefs, but to see it from the domestic America side is not as common to find. I will admit that I was somewhat acquainted with some of what is discussed here that centered around New York City as my grandmother, born and raised in Hell's Kitchen, daughter of a dockworker who was heavily involved in Union politics, later married and involved with quite a few military men stationed at Fort Totten before and after the War, would tell me stories of spies and Nazi-lovers in the City. Nana knew a lot of people and had that way about her that invited conversation. When we'd go to Flushing and Manhattan, she would point out places that was occupied by Bund members, gangsters, and spies.

Whether the potential reader is interested in what went on domestically during the years leading up to World War II, history in general, or politics, this is a book they should read. It will open some minds and frighten others with the parallels with the current crop of fascist leaning leaders.

I'm not a big quote person, but I found these three in particular so apt to today that I couldn't resist sharing.

Not a single uniformed police officer in sight. I say “uniformed” because the odds are that some of the people doing the Nazi salute are probably in law enforcement.

Now, contrast that to how overly militarized police have routinely shown up at peaceful Black Lives Matter protests

Or how the police treat peaceful college students protesting for free higher education

Or how the authorities treated Black people simply walking in our own communities, after the murder of Mike Brown

Oh, and how about six months before the January 6, 2021 white supremacist riots, when National Guard troops were deployed to the Lincoln Memorial on June 2, 2020, during George Floyd protests held in Washington, DC? Where was this overwhelming presence on January 6, 2021??

And finally, Ron DeSantis, a leading Republican candidate for President of The United States(!), has a large following of Neo-Nazis, but he has yet to explicitly denounce them. I guess maybe he’s too busy banning books, or making sure drag queens aren’t reading books to children, or making sure that accurate Black history—aka American history—isn’t being taught in schools.

I could go on and on and on, but the police never seem to have that same energy for actual fucking Nazis, or the Proud Boys, or Oath Keepers, etc etc etc

Domestic terrorism by white nationalists is the biggest threat to social stability, justice, democracy and to America itself.

Big reminder that your country is not immune to bigotry. I've seen so many people, for example, pretend like antisemitism doesn't exist in the USA because we were part of the allied forces in WWII (of course, they conveniently don't remember that we rejected jewish refugees when WWII broke out and we only really joined because Pearl Harbor was bombed, but I digress).

If you think your country is immune from antisemitism, racism (including anti-Indigenous racism), class issues, ableism, whatever else it may be, look deeper because you will find it.

"The Lemkin Institute [for Genocide Prevention] believes that the so-called “gender critical movement” that is behind [USA anti-trans legislation] is a fascist movement furthering a specifically genocidal ideology that seeks the complete eradication of trans identity from the world."

As I write this on April 22nd 2023, a total of 498 anti-trans bills have been introduced in the USA during 2023 alone. 19% of these bills have failed (96/498). 9% have passed (43/498). 72% of these bills are still being actively considered (359/498). This is already 286% more anti-trans bills introduced in 4 months than in the entirety of 2022 (176 bills were introduced in 2022). These bills affect;

ability to change sex marker on legal documents

preferred name usage

personal pronoun usage

access to gender-affirming care

student athletes

student bathroom usage

drag performers

and more!

This puts parents of trans children, educators, health care providers and more at risk for simply advocating for trans children. This puts trans adults and drag performers at risk. This puts trans children at risk.

Punishment for breaking anti-trans legislation is at risk of being as worse as imprisonment for life or the death penalty.

Example 1: Bill amendments HB - 4257, would define any person (including parents, doctors, coaches, teachers, etc.) involved in the gender transition of a minor as a child abuser, punishable by imprisonment for life. This bill amendment proposal has been continuously reintroduced with no sign of stopping until passed.

Example 2: "Drag ban" bills such as SB - 1438 and SB - 1698 broadly label drag as sexual conduct to "protect minors" from them. States then proceed to pass bills such as SB - 1342 that can allow sexual crimes against children to be punishable by death. Do you see the connection and how uncanny the timeline of the introduction or passing of these bills is? More than 4% of those executed are innocent but this percentage is likely higher in reality due to racial bias, economic inequality, etc. This number will only increase with prejudice against the LGBTQ+ community being legalized.

There are only 3 other accounts of trans genocide that have occurred globally:

During Nazi Germany (1920-1945), the Institute for Sexual Research was looted and destroyed. The Institute worked toward improving gender-affirming surgery and advocated for trans rights. Trans and gender non-conforming individuals faced forced detransitions and sentences to concentration camps. In 2022, Germany ruled that claiming trans people were not targeted by Nazis as denial of Nazi crimes, which is punishable by a prison sentence.

In Indonesia during the 1960s, a Bugis gender identity known as the bissu, faced violent persecution, torture and execution, with sacred ceremonies being banned. Bissu persecution in the Pancasila Republic of Indonesia continues to this day. In 2022, it was declared that these people are close to extinction.

Brazil has experienced the most annual transgender-targeted homicides since 2009. That's 14 years in a row. Many trans homicides go unreported, misreported or uninvestigated. The methods of murder are becoming increasingly more violent and organized. Transphobia continues to run rampant in Brazil due to the lack of legal protections and encouragement from politicians.

The one stage of genocide that the United States has not yet reached, like these other 3 countries, is execution. Do not let it get to that stage.

Anti-trans legislation is not about protecting women, children, etc. Its sole purpose is to silence and control, leading to the erasure of trans identities. The longer this continues the easier it is for transphobes to spread their harmful ideology and get away with it. I am privileged to have the opportunity to live in Canada, but in recent years even I have experienced and witnessed increasing numbers of transphobic incidents. Although not violent, the ideology is there. Hate spreads like a plague.

Be vigilant when following the news and make some noise about this with your own state officials. Even if you aren't American, label it like the genocide it is. Don't be silent about this. I've listed two resources below that I think will be helpful next steps once you finish reading this post. Feel free to also share your own resources in reblogs! Thank you!

for those who dont know, the phrase "final solution" is indicative of the “Final Solution of the Jewish Question”, a euphemism used by Nazi Germany’s leaders. It referred to the mass murder of Europe’s Jews. It brought an end to policies aimed at encouraging or forcing Jews to leave the German Reich and other parts of Europe. Those policies were replaced by systematic annihilation.

Moments after vetoing a UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, US ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield told the press that Washington would pursue what she termed as a ‘final solution’ to the conflict.

That reminded some of the ‘Final Solution to the Jewish Question,’ a N*zi plan to exterminate the Jewish population in Europe. Whether she meant that or not, it came across as a tone-deaf response negating the grave situation facing Gaza’s people and ignoring the United States’ role in perpetuating the brutal Israeli occupation Palestinians have endured for more than 75 years.

Since 7 October, Washington has reportedly supplied 21,000 precision-guided munitions, including 100 2,000-pound ‘bunker buster’ bombs designed to penetrate hardened structures or underground targets. The remaining weapons are reportedly able to sustain 18 more weeks of bombardments. This is on top of the $3.8 billion the US annually gives Tel Aviv to beef up its military. Plus, billions more in US military aid have been proposed since the escalation began.

Israel has killed close to 30,000 Palestinians and has forced 1.9 million—85 per cent of Gaza residents—to flee their homes. More US arms are reportedly on the way as Tel Aviv prepares to invade Rafah, where 1.5 million Palestinians are trapped on the border with Egypt.
