After reading about all the Ariel Little Mermaid remake uproar, one argument stood out to me. The one where "Black people have been oppressed, underrepresented and washed by whites so it's fine for the oppressed to take White roles away" argument stood out to me. Following that logic, all Zimbabwe and South African folktales would be fine being represented by White people seeing as they've been murdered and oppressed much like Black people have.

Not to mention, it’s far better and more appriciative to tell original and new stories featuring black or minority characters as opposed to just changing an existing one.

There’s nothing “new” about a black Peter Parker because his story is just Peter Parker’s. His story will always probably be subpar or second just like other alliterations of Peter Parker are preferred by one person or another.... but there is something new about Miles Morales as he is a character who is able to actually stand on his own as a character and be different. Even if in the future there are different alliterations of Miles Morales, the fact that he’s still his own character rather than just a “black peter parker” goes far further than if he was.

Same thing applies to so many other stories. Make a new one instead of just racially recasting characters for “”representation”” because it comes off as shallow
