Savior of boredom: hospital edition
Peter Parker was so so so bored. He was stuck in the med-bay for a couple of days because of a broken leg.
While he had gotten it in because of patrol, it wasn't a cool, or epic story. It was after he had finished up for the day and he was going home. This was a normal routine of climbing through the window. Somehow, even with his super-senses, he had messed it up. He had forgotten that the lock had been acting up recently, and he was in the process of fixing it. So when he climbed in, he had tripped on the loose screws and fell really badly.
Now, he was trapped with a cast and without a cool story. Thankfully, he there was not anything major he was missing. Peter was just chronically bored. Mr. Stark and Aunt May had teamed up to ensure that he could not escape. Trust him, he had tried.
Before he could mope about for longer, the door opened. Peter looked up confused, he wasn't expecting anyone.
A smile broke on his face as he stared into the eyes of his girlfriend: Michelle Jones. She was dressed casually, but Peter still thought she could be a model. In her arms was a wheelchair.
"Hello loser, I have come to save you." MJ announced, opening the chair.
Peter gestured to hug her, "My hero."
MJ paused as she walked up to him. Without another word, she pulled out several colourful pens. Peter recognized them as the ones that they had picked out together while procrastinating on their homework.
"Your cast is currently plain." Uncapping the pens, she started her work, "I'm gonna fix that for you."
"Thanks, I think."
A couple of brightly coloured stars and hearts later, MJ helped Peter into the wheelchair. Together, they left the room.

MJ: I hate you so much.

mj tries cooking for the first time but is not very successful 😄
“How do you burn popcorn!”
“I don’t know! The box said four minutes, so I put it in for four minutes. I never cooked it before.”
“When did it start catching fire?”
“I’m not sure.”
“You’re not sure?”
“I went to use the bathroom, and then—what? I had to go! And then when I came back…this.”
“I still can’t believe this. …It was in a microwave. What did you do?”
“I just put it in the microwave and did what it said.”
“There was a fire, MJ! All the way up to the cabinets! The microwave is ruined. There’s burned kernels everywhere.”
“I know—”
“This is a dorm microwave—”
“I know!”
“Jesus fucking Christ…” Peter goes to the nearest window to open it, fanning the air around his nose. He then bursts out in giggles. “I have to put this on Snapchat. No, Tiktok. No, both.”
Michelle screeches, “No!”

“What do you wanna do?” MJ eventually breaks the silence that had settled between them.
“I guess I go and find him, and get him to confess then hope for the best?” Peter replies with a slight grimace, unsure.
MJ exhales audibly. “No, we- we go and find him and get him to confess. Together.”
She’s insistent and there’s a part of Peter that wants to protest, that overprotective part of him that wants MJ to stay here safe and locked away whilst he goes and deals with this because it’s his mess after all.
He almost goes to say as such but MJ interjects, “You left me by myself in New Jersey to go to New York. You’re not leaving me again.” Her tone is still insistent but it’s tinged with a slight vulnerability.
And she’s right, he made a decision to do something that affected the both of them without even telling her and left her by herself. Not this time. “Okay. Together,” He affirms, taking her hand in his as he does so and squeezing it to punctuate his words.

Contextual Misfire
In which Ned Leeds is a guy who makes logical assumptions based on the information given to him.
Based on that scene in Far From Home.
...
Peter and Michelle stared at each other, the awkward tension growing steadily. Peter had just impulsively pulled his shirt off to change into his suit, heedless of Michelle, who was still right there, staring at him.
“Oh, I, uh.” Michelle stammered, turning around. She heard clothes rustling, and the image of Peter’s abs burned itself into her mind by the heat in her face. She was tempted to take a peek.
“Hey, so Peter, I--Oh!” Ned Leeds walked in with what has got to be the best timing in Guy-In-The-Chair history, Peter decided. Michelle disagreed.
Michelle turned to face Ned and still sneaked a glance to Peter when the superhero wouldn’t notice.
“Oh man, the plan worked better than we thought.” Ned said, glancing between the two. “I’m so sorry. I should go? Uh, when should I come back?” He asked, unaware of the Nightcrawler suit on Peter’s bed.
“Ned! Great!” Peter said, “I need you to call May and tell her to call Mr. Harrington telling him that she wants me to stay with relatives here for the rest of the trip.”
Michelle looked to Peter, her eyes stuck on the waistband of his underwear as he tossed his jeans behind him, “Wow, you lie so easily.”
“Wait, why?” Ned asked, eyes widening with each word, “Are you guys gonna stay here and keep...” He trailed off, making a vague gesture.
“Yeah.” Peter replied without hesitation, and Michelle almost cringes because she is too aware of what it looks like, “Gotta do what you gotta do, you know?”
Michelle wanted to disappear. Her face heated up uncontrollably and, to her chagrin, she still couldn’t tear her eyes from Peter -- not that she could have faced Ned right then anyway.
“Alright!” Ned gave Peter a thumbs up and headed out the door. He pulled out his phone to call May.
The door shut again behind Ned, and Michelle immediately blurted, “You know he thinks we’re about to have sex, right?”
Peter, partially in his suit, sputtered and tripped, falling face first to the ground and giving Michelle an interesting view of his profile, “He-- what?” His flustered gaze stuck to her from his prone position, and he propped himself on his arms, pants forgotten, as he spoke, “What do you-- what? No.”
“Well,” Michelle shrugged, finally forcing her eyes to look into Peter’s, “He did leave before you got the suit on.”
“No--well, yeah, but... I mean-- he doesn’t-- he--” Words failed Peter as he squirmed into his suit on the floor of the hotel. His face was burning hotter than Michelle’s now. “Look-- just... Don’t let anyone know, okay? I’ll be back. Remember, don’t tell anyone.”
Michelle gave him a thumbs up and watched Peter lower his goggles before defenestrating himself and swinging off. She almost left to go find Ned and explain, but she paused.
Smiling to herself, Michelle locked the door and turned on some loud music before settling on Peter’s bed. Ned had pretty loose lips, especially since he was dating Betty. He’d give everyone a great alibi.

MJ is observant
I really like this tiny details I saw in this leaked footage.
Tumblr media
In this footage, Peter and friends encountered HydroMan, and Ned was telling Peter to "do something". Peter then respond, "just don't let them see me".
In my other post, I already arranged the monster appearances, so this scenes happened before MJ confront (or ruined) Peter's confession, and simply said that Peter is obviously spiderman.
Noticed that Ned and Betty's eyes looked at the monster, terrified. Peter was also looked at the monster when he said "just don't let them see me", then his eyes dart to his friends while he pushed them away.
At that moments, MJ's eyes darted between the monster AND the boys before them. Clearly she heard the conversation, and understood Ned's plea, because she already knew that Peter is Spiderman.
After Peter pushed Ned away, noticed that MJ took Ned's arm, and then directing Ned, Betty, and herself away from the impending danger.
Tumblr media
She didn't look back, or taking Peter's arm, because she already knew that Peter need to distract the monster away from publics.
And later, after all of them reunited at the hotel, and discussing about the "new" superhero (Mysterio), and Flash blurted that "He's no Spiderman", MJ's face frowned, and she asked "What's it between you and Spiderman?"
Tumblr media
Clearly she didn't like the idea of Flash make fun of Spiderman, who she already knew was Peter, who went to face HydroMan just minutes before, so that they could be save. Apparently, MJ didn't know that Flash was one of Spiderman fan :)
Well... we Spideychelle fan already knew that MJ must knew who Spiderman really is, but after that second trailer, who confirmed our theories about how observant MJ is, these tiny details really is something. :)

Boh
Tumblr media
youtube
Summary:
Boh
/boh/ noun, Italian slang word 1. Telling someone you either don’t know or don’t care about the person’s question or situation. Commonly used in Italy.
“Boh!”
“W- what?” Said a confused Peter.
“It’s my new superpower. It’s like I was born to say this word.” MJ’s intrigued eyes then trailed down to the cute 🎁 bag clutched onto Peter’s ✋ as if he was hiding an engagement ring for her and was about to propose. Not that that’s what she had in mind. At the moment. “So… what’s in the bag?” She asked curiously.
“Oh, uh… boh.” Peter shrugged casually.
MJ hummed at his cleverness. “Nice.”
MJ was the type of person to not give a 💩 about people’s business. And discovering the word, “Boh,” gave her an advantage to let other people know that. That is if they speak Italian. Or if that person is Peter Parker, who already learned that phrase from the one and only. Although, for a super honest pessimist, MJ would never mean to use the definition of boh when it comes to Peter Parker on her mind.
A/N: All characters belong to Marvel Studios and this is my first fic since 3 years, so hopefully it’s way less crappy than the ones I wrote in middle school because ngl they were shitty af. ALSO, I think I'm just gonna make every chapter title be named after an mxmtoon song because I really think a lot of her songs fit so well with MJ's introverted personality and her struggles with trying to maintain friendships and move on from her past anti-social habits.
Enjoy!
Chapter 2. Suffice
Despite MJ's reputation of being the first to speak up among her peers or be the first to give out her opinion on someone, she was never really the type to make the first move on school crushes. But then again, Peter was the only school crush she ever had in her life. So, in her defense, she never experienced enacting on special relationships because she never made the first move on Peter. And her history of always being the first to start a conversation with him never counted because all of their conversations were usually small talk about what they'd be doing later, MJ's new discoveries of creepy, historical events, her light roastings on Peter or her findings of new, weird self-discoveries of her persona.
MJ was never scared of telling Peter how she'd felt about anything or anyone, but her true feelings for him was something that she'd never be honest about with him. The bookcase mentally cursed at herself for contradicting her sense of honesty. But she was just a teenager, so many people around her age would never have the strength to tell their high school crush that they wanna become more than friends. Although, MJ never considered herself like most teenagers mainly because they would never give out their honest opinions to anybody if they knew it was going to hurt them. That's how they manage to keep their social lives from going downhill. But MJ's had already went downhill ever since she realized that Peter had feelings for one of the most sweetest, smartest, kindest and most beautiful girls in the world. MJ didn't blame Liz for getting Peter to be attracted to such wonderful qualities of a person. Deep down, all of those traits were everything that MJ wanted to have. So, the only solution to MJ's situation was to not do anything about her problems and to not tell Peter how she felt about him. Just continue painfully bottling up her true feelings like always.
Then again, MJ did actually tell Peter how she really felt about him one time. That is, if reading their script lines for this school play that they did in freshman year counted. Peter was playing an extra, while MJ, surprisingly, was playing the female lead. But like most projects that have a strong leading lady, they were always forced to be put up with a love story. And so, MJ had to practice this one line where she would have to confess to her on-stage love interest that she was in love with him. And why she didn't want to practice those lines with the guy playing her lover was because the person playing that said lover was no other than Flash Thompson. And although it was all for a ridiculous act, it still killed MJ to having to pretend to make goo-goo eyes with one of the most annoying kids in her grade.
Thankfully, Flash never had any feelings for her, especially when they had to rehearse some very intimate scenes together. But he still was a stupid flirt who would always try to hit on girls he weren't even attracted to. He just does it to get life points (Or what MJ calls it: validation) from his friends, who don't even dare him to flirt like an idiot. And with the universe putting MJ in Flash's presence against her will, she was an easy target for him. Luckily, he flirted with her only once because he decided not to do it ever again, after she finally snapped and brutally called him out on every single insecurity he had on him, in front of the whole theater club. That was probably when her state of loneliness all began because after that incident, everyone kept more than just a fair distance away from her.
MJ didn't really mean whatever she said to Flash though. She was just fed up with his constant bullshit. And his constant teasing with Peter. But she had to admit Flash's "Penis Parker" jokes were not as harsh as all those things she said to him. So whenever they had to practice scenes together, Flash kept his eye contact focused on anywhere that wasn't on MJ's resting (bitch) face. Part of MJ was glad that Flash took her seriously now, but the other part of her felt bad for emotionally breaking some guy who wasn't worth her time. Which was why she decided to practice her lines on Peter the Extra.
After school, they would hang out at either one of their houses to practice. Peter would read the script to look at MJ's lines to see if she memorized them well, while Peter read aloud Flash's to help her practice. And the reason why MJ chose an extra to help her out with lines was because since her character had to emphasize the words, "I love you," it felt partially relieving for her to say those words to Peter without letting him know that she was not trying to stay in character. And best of all, she got to tell him how she truly felt for him. He just never gotten the memo. After the final performance, MJ stopped attempting more ways to say sentimental things to Peter, in fear that he would get suspicious of it. So, she decided not to risk their friendship and continue to stay in the shadows like usual.
This crisis made MJ feel so pathetic. People were supposed to see her as this faceless girl incapable of developing feelings for people. But did MJ really want people to see her like that? The whole emo-girl persona wasn't really a phase since she developed this persona since freshman year, after the Lash-On-Flash incident. Though, she tended to surround herself with decent people who shared her intelligence range, AKA, the Decathlon Club. For once, MJ actually enjoyed being surrounded by people, even though those people happened to be associated with (Or be forced to breathe the same air as) Flash. But MJ never thought that Peter was going to be a part of the club as well.
Decathlon Club Pros & Cons: Cons: Flash Thompson Pros: Peter Parker (And Ned and Liz. They were real ones too)
Besides every non-Flash, Peter has been the one who kept her sane in Decathlon Club. Not just from Flash, but also from the reminders of her past of pushing people away because she chose to avoid them first in fear of abandonment or betrayal. But with Peter, it was hard to push him away. She never wanted to but she did anyway (and still does), though it was always out of habit, as if it was involuntary. Every time a word comes out of his mouth, she would be the first the respond with a negative remark, even if it wasn't her he was talking to. Though, Peter never seemed to be offended by MJ. He would just take it as a joke or even find it normal because he was so used to her slight negativity as if it was something he adored about her. When being with Peter, it gave MJ the desire to keep a decent relationship without pushing people away again. She sufficed for friendship.
"You look really pretty." Peter stammered shyly. His soft voice almost sounded like an angelic echo acoustically spreading all over the large opera theater. Well, that's what MJ heard from her point of view.
The air in her lungs suddenly left. She faced Peter with a look that no one else has ever seen on her. It was an almost expressionless look but it was not an expressionless look that MJ would typically wear on her face. Because even though her lips were not slightly lifted upward, her chocolate eyes gleamed of flattery and awe from Peter's comment. Visible enough for Peter to notice her reaction.
Of course with MJ being MJ, she involuntarily responds with, "And therefore I have value?" Now she regretted ruining the moment because right now, Peter was already hurting her with that slightly embarrassed look that she caused.
"No. No, that's not what I meant at all. I was just..."
Okay, time to un-fuck up that little mistake. MJ thought. "I'm messing with you." Peter chuckled nervously in relief. If Peter's dorky smiles could kill, MJ would be dead in a heartbeat. "Thank you."
"You're welcome."
"...You look pretty too." MJ added.
Again, with the MJ-killing smile. If only MJ could be mad at Peter for feeling this undying lovey-doviness inside if he wasn't so cute.
"Thank you." He said with a more genuine smile.

Prompt for short fic: peter and mj's panicked reactions right after his identity got revealed in ffh. Tyy
It didn’t sink in at first. She’d found out hours after the issue, days after a wonderful first date that still made her giddy, vibrating from her fingertips to her toes and curling into herself with her cellphone clutched to her chest, rolling from side to side on her bed because she’s unable to keep still from the intensity of her joy.
It hit her unexpectedly, arguably at the worst possible time in her life, ever.
Michelle hadn’t even found out on time, but over internet and through a post on social media. And yet, it didn’t sink in even as she watches it and hears the recorded words of Quentin Beck and Peter’s voice off camera and the gunshot. It doesn't sink—it doesn’t process—the panic it doesn’t register even when she closes the internet window and searches for proof, to make sure this isn’t a hoax because it can’t be real. It just can’t.
Michelle’s panic doesn’t register the intensity of the situation even through the next thirty minutes she scores all forms of the internet and television, when she exits her bedroom and meets her mother’s gaze across the living room, she too having just seen it on the local news. Michelle assumes her quickening heartbeat is the fear of having to confront her mother that her daughter has a crush on a boy who is now revealed to be a superhero, who’s also allegedly a masked murderer.
Panic isn’t the nearest thing on her mind to her sudden hyper awareness, pulling her hair into a ponytail as she wastes the next two and a half hours searching through Queens and burning out half of her phone’s battery by calling but receiving Peter’s voicemail over and over and over and over and over and over and over...
The only one she’s able to get a hold to is Ned, him being the only other who previously knew Peter’s secret and Michelle not having his aunt’s phone number.
“Where are you?” Ned squeals, already having seen the news and blowing up her phone with text messages—which Michelle admittedly ignored until now, too caught up.
“I’m on my way to his house. Calm down, Leeds.” She shoves a hand into her sweater’s pocket, feels her ring of keys, a few coins she’d forgotten about.
“I should be telling you that,” Ned breaths over the phone. “You sound like you’re about to pass out.”
“I’m fine,” she says, really believing so. “Have you heard from him.”
“Nothing.” It sounds like Ned’s traveling from Michelle’s end, so she asks him. “I’m at the doctor’s with my mom. Her appointment,” he explains. “I saw—saw it in the lobby. They have a TV, and—”
Michelle hangs up because she thinks she sees a flash of red somewhere high on the surrounding buildings but it’s gone when she tries to get a better look.
Michelle truly believes she is calm even as she makes it to the Parkers’ residence and is winded; the broken black jeweled necklace she’s never taken off since Europe bounces against her chest. Her vision has begun to blur around the edges, feeling lightheaded and as if she’s about to pass out.
Panic still doesn’t register to be an honest possibility even as she’s knocking on the front apartment door with more force than she intends, as she meets May’s gaze, and Michelle’s voice cracks and breaks as she asks, “Is Peter home? Is he okay?”
Panic doesn’t seep in when May allows her inside, locks the door, and does her own best to stay calm as she answers, “He isn’t. He’s out...out... With Ned—”
“He’s not with Ned.” Again, Michelle’s voice cracks.
She’s standing between the front door and the living room, awkwardly in the doorway but glaring at May, skeptical. She knows May is lying. All of this is too unreal; it reminds her of the fictional novels she’s read during a phase in middle school, it’s like a scary episode of a mystery. Michelle already feels like she can’t trust her parents, anticipating their avalanche of questions and accusations, and now she suddenly doesn’t know if she can trust May.
“I just got off the phone with Ned. Why’re you lying.” Her glare hardens. She thinks the blurring around her vision is from stress, from dizziness and not the brimming tears. “Where’s Peter?”
But May sees it. The woman wrings her hands, trying to control herself. Her mouth opens and closes without speaking. She tries to speak, releases broken words sounding like a croak, and suddenly the tiny apartment feels too large. There is suddenly too much space and the air too thin and the ground suddenly tilted and unbalanced.
“I don’t know,” May whispers.
The world feels to have turned on its side.
Michelle thinks she nods in understanding. She also thinks she’s totally composed and calm as she looks to May, to the muted television still showing the local news, to the family pictures on the wall—memories of May’s marriage, Peter growing up, Peter’s deceased parents, and May’s deceased husband and other family and friends.
Michelle breaths in, thinks she’s calm, and then feels her cheeks becoming wet. She barely has time to raise a hand to her face and understand that she’s crying as May opens her arms and envelops the teenager in a desperately needed hug. The woman rubs Michelle’s hair and mummers reassurances that Michelle is grateful to hear but knows is a lie—things like “It’s going to be okay.” Pressed against May’s chest, Michelle then registers that her breathing is erratic and her heartbeat is much faster than May’s.
The panic sets in then; May helps ease Michelle down from a panic attack.
— — — — — —
In a secret location not even known to him, Peter sits alone on the floor in a room. He’d been whisked off and hidden by orders of Nick Fury, as told by the agents who approached him.
He’s been sitting on the cold, hard floor for hours, ignoring the optional furniture in the room with his knees to his chin, eyes red-rimmed and staring off, slightly rocking back and forth from his own panic attack. He wishes his aunt was here. He wishes he had a time machine to go back and erase all of this from the beginning. He inhales a quiet sob and wishes he had his parents back.

For spideychelle prompts please could you do one where Peter gets jealous? Him and MJ could be in an established relationship or pre-relationship, I don't mind.
Hi so sorry it’s taken me so long to get to this. I was busy with my thesis up until two weeks ago then I’ve had a really hard time getting back into writing fics but I figured prompts are a good way to get back into it so here’s established spideychelle with Peter being jealous of MJ and Shuri’s friendship. It was meant to be a quick little thing but it got out of hand…my bad.
(I’m making my way through the prompts in my inbox, so feel free to send more if you want!)
Peter was well aware that MJ was miles out of his league. She was infinitely smarter, more beautiful, more socially conscious and educated, better adjusted, more mature, more self-assured et cetera, et cetera.
He had no delusions about how much he was punching, or the fact that everyone saw the same great qualities as he did in MJ and instantly fell in love with her just as he had. He had accepted this as a universal truth and so wasn’t generally jealous when it came to the attention MJ naturally drew- like he said, she was practically a goddess and if he fell so hard and fast for her then it was entirely conceivable for others to do the same upon interacting with her.
Peter wasn’t the jealous type. He wasn’t.
He was used to the adoration MJ naturally drew and yet the unfamiliar pit of feral jealousy started bubbling within him from the moment he introduced MJ to Shuri.
Since he’d confessed to being Spider-Man to her, MJ was generally apathetic to that aspect of his life and had been unimpressed to say the least. He thought it would be a tool that would earn him extra cool points with MJ but she’d just brush off all his attempts to impress her with all his tricks and superpowers by letting him know it was the powerless dork who couldn’t run a full lap around the Midtown gym without needing his inhaler that she’d fallen in love with and a radioactive spider bite was meaningless to her.
She helped him occasionally with patrolling when she wasn’t busy with school or with saving the world through her blog articles and protests she organised, and she’d be there to listen if he wanted to talk through any particularly difficult experiences but other than that she remained disinterested.
That was until he offhandedly mentioned how Shuri was coming to New York for a couple of weeks to give the help he so desperately needed with upgrades to his Iron Spider suit. Peter had made the comment completely off-handedly whilst folding laundry and discussing plans for dinner with May the following weekend, figuring MJ wouldn’t care.
He was wrong though as she came into the bedroom where he was putting the laundry away and put a hand on his shoulder to stop him. “What did you just say?”
“Um- I said May called to say she wanted to have breakfast with us on Saturday but I told her we should do dinner instead because I’ll be at the compound during the day with Shuri.”
“Yeah, yeah, forget the May stuff-”
Peter widened his eyes at the declaration.
“Okay no I didn’t mean that. I love May more than any other human alive,” MJ clarified to which Peter scoffed, hurt. MJ rolled her eyes at his dramatic reaction but didn’t do anything to placate his feelings and carried on, “Princess Shuri is gonna be in New York?”
“Yes…” He wasn’t sure where this was going.
“Can I come with you to the compound on Saturday?”
Peter was confused. “Every time I’ve invited you to come hangout with me at the compound over the last 5 years you’ve told me and I quote, “and why would I willingly want to be in the same building as Tony Stark?”. What gives?”
“I wanna meet Princess Shuri,” MJ said it slowly, like Peter was being dense.
Peter didn’t really think much of it, his excitement at MJ finally showing a bit interest in the Spider-Man side of his life and being impressed by something overshadowed any trepidations or suspicions he may or should have had so he agreed to bring her along.
As present Peter watches MJ and Shuri talking a mile a minute about the potential uses of vibranium for renewable energy or…something (they had lost him soon after the initial introduction), he doesn’t think much of it. MJ has a lot of thoughts and ideas and always takes full advantage of any opportunity to present these to someone with the means to make them happen; she’s gonna change the world, his girlfriend and hopefully future-wife.
Peter becomes distracted by his thoughts of how MJ will likely single-handedly solve the problem of climate change and is only brought out of his musings by the woman in question. “Earth to Peter, hello.”
“Hi,” he says dumbly smiling at her.
Shuri rolls her eyes at the lovesick expression on his face. “I was just saying you can go stop pick-pockets or something. We’re good here.”
“I thought we were gonna work on my suit upgrades together?”
“We can handle it, right MJ?” Shuri asks looking to MJ.
Peter is already being pushed out of the lab by MJ with a kiss and a promise to meet him back at the apartment before dinner with May before he can protest and bring up the fact that its his suit and he should probably be present whilst they tamper with it.
He’s left dumbfounded at being kicked out of his own lab but simply shakes his head and leaves the pair to it as he goes and patrols.
For the duration of Shuri’s visit, MJ and Shuri spend almost every day with each other- whether that be MJ going up to the compound (she’s gone to the compound more over the past two weeks Shuri has been here than she has the entire time they’ve been friends then in a relationship combined) or Shuri coming to visit their apartment.
It’s strange and Peter starts to wonder what on earth they spend all their time doing. It’s certainly not doing his suit upgrades as MJ informs him they finished his suit on Shuri’s second day in New York when he asks if the suit is giving them trouble and if that’s why they’re seeing each other so often.
Peter is no jealous, he is not. He’s simply curious about what it is they spend all their time together alone doing, and he wants to see if maybe he can help out if it’s something related to MJ’s renewable energy plans. That’s all it is, not jealousy because Peter doesn’t get jealous.
It’s simply curiosity- that’s what drives him to drop by the lab unannounced on one evening after MJ texts to tell him to have dinner without her since she’ll be at the lab for a while longer.
He (childishly) makes a grand dramatic entrance to the lab only to be ignored by the two women who are sat beside each other, very close to one another a small voice in his head notes, on the work bench looking over something with their backs turned towards him.
He clears his throat loudly to announce his presence and MJ hurriedly rolls her chair away from Shuri to put some distance between them whilst Shuri turns to face him, effectively obscuring whatever they were “working on” from his view.
“Peter!” MJ is first to speak. “I thought you were gonna go out patrolling, babe?”
Peter narrows his eyes at the affectionate term- MJ has never once called him by a term of endearment like “babe”, at least not in a sincere, non-sarcastic way like she’d just done.
Alarm bells go off in his head but he tries to dismiss his unease because he’s being ridiculous and he’s not the jealous type. He’s not.
Peter tries to stop his spiralling train of thought and recover some dignity, “Uh, yeah, I just- I came to get some more bottles of web fluid,” he explains lamely.
MJ eyes him curiously, and he thinks she might bring up the fact that there are three unopened bottles of web fluid in the box underneath his bed where he stores his suit and call him out on his bizarre behaviour here. Instead she turns to bid farewell to Shuri then drags him out of the lab without another word.
She drives them back to their Queens apartment without saying a word to him for the entire journey. She still doesn’t say anything to him once they get to their apartment.
She wordlessly strips out of her day clothes and goes to the shower, leaving Peter to just wait for her on the couch. He’s too anxious to even turn the TV on or go on his phone whilst he waits so he just sits on the couch and stares ahead. He feels like a little kid awaiting their punishment from their parent for misbehaving.
Eventually MJ comes out of the shower, she’s now clad in one of his t-shirts and nothing else and her hair fails in soft, wet curls down over her shoulders as she lets it air dry.
He takes a moment to appreciate what a sight to behold she is even fresh out of the shower not having bothered to do anything to her appearance before taking a deep breath, bracing himself for whatever she has in store for him.
To his surprise MJ doesn’t say anything, just pads to the kitchen and starts riffling through their fridge where she brings out a container of leftovers and starts to warm it up.
“Please talk to me. Shout at me, call me names- anything. I hate this-” Peter pleads eventually after standing there for two minutes in relative silence with only the sound of the microwave filling their kitchen.
MJ continues to ignore him and simply takes her food out of the microwave then goes to sit down and eat it. She finishes her dinner, still without saying a word to her.
She makes to get up and take the tupperware container to the kitchen but Peter intercepts her. “Let me take it for you.”
“What- you don’t trust me to even take dirty dishes to the kitchen now?” MJ asks with ferocity.
“MJ-”
She snatches the container back from him then walks ahead to the kitchen. He runs after her and finds her waiting for the water from the faucet to heat up so she can wash the container and the few dishes left in the sink.
“Can we please talk?” He tries again.
“Hm, what should we talk about? You not trusting me and doing that caveman bullshit of bursting in to the lab? Did you think you’d catch us in the act going at it over the work bench?” MJ asks angrily, still not raising her voice.
“No, I was just-”
“Just what, Peter?”
“I messed up.”
“The jealousy thing isn’t cute, you know. Relationships are built on a foundation of trust and it really hurts to see that you don’t trust me,” she sighs out, sounding so hurt and disappointed in a way that makes Peter feels like the worst person in existence.
Without thinking he steps forward to turn the faucet off and wraps his arms around MJ. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I trust you completely, I trust you with my life Michelle.” He sighs as he thinks over his wording, “I trust you but I just- you’re so smart and beautiful and out of my league and I know I don’t deserve you and seeing you interact with someone who’s more on your level just made me insecure I guess. I’m sorry MJ. I know you’d never do anything like- I trust you completely, I’m just an idiot with a lot of residual insecurities about myself to work through.”
MJ doesn’t move or say anything for a while but eventually moves to wrap her arms around him and buries her head in his shoulder. “We still have things to work through clearly,” she mumbles into the cotton of his shirt.
Peter snorts at that, “I dress up in a spandex suit and listen in to a police scanner in search of crime- I have a lot of things I need to work through, possibly with a professional.”
She laughs at his words then pulls back to press a peck against his lips. “I have my fair share of issues to work through too, don’t worry.”
“I’m really sorry for how I behaved Em,” he breathes out against her lips before kissing her again.
“If you have concerns about something we talk about it, like adults. Okay?”
“Yeah,” he agrees then presses his lips to hers one final time before pulling away. “I’ll do the dishes tomorrow, let’s just go to bed.”
Despite it only being half 9 the pair go to bed, wrapped up in the other and limbs entangled.
They lie in silence for a while, breathing synchronously as they start to drift off when Peter speaks up again, “Hey, uh, so in the spirit of talking about things like adults…what have you and Shuri been up to?”
MJ sits up to turn a bedside lamp on so Peter can see her disbelieving facial expression, “Peter…”
“I’m just curious, is all.”
MJ huffs then lies back down with her head pillowed on his shoulder. “If you must know, Shuri has been modifying my phone to link it up to your suit so I can monitor your location, vitals or whatever.”
She says it so quietly that he isn’t sure he heard her right. Surely he didn’t hear her right because MJ doesn’t really concern herself with his nighttime activities beyond just wanting him to make sure he stays alive.
“You- what- why?”
“Use full sentences, Peter.”
“I just thought you didn’t really care about this spidey stuff,” he finally gets out.
MJ exhales loudly. “Of course I care Peter, it’s such a large part of who you are and I love and care about you- all of you. I just, uh, I’ve always pretended to be apathetic to it all because I know what you’re like and I don’t want you thinking about me being the worried sick girlfriend at home, you have enough on your plate.”
Peter doesn’t know quite how to react to that.
“I know what a large burden of responsibility you carry every time you suit up and I didn’t think me being the nagging, clingy girlfriend constantly asking you to check in would do you any good. So I asked Shuri to do this for me that way I had a way to check up on you on the nights I can’t sleep because I’m worried sick about you.”
“MJ why didn’t you tell me that you stay up worried about me?”
“Because of how you’re reacting right now,” she sits up so she can look down at him. “You’ve made a choice to dedicate your life to fighting crime and helping people and I get that and I’d never ask you to stop. I just need my own ways to get comfortable with the fact that you continually put your life on the line, okay?”
Peter drags her down to hug her close to his chest. “I’m so sorry that I put you through this every day.”
They lie there in silence for a while, just providing each other with physical comfort.
After a while Peter bursts out laughing and MJ leans her head up to look at him questioningly.
“We really need to work through some things with a professional,” he says in between his laughter.
MJ finds herself laughing along with him.
