You ever been to a Baskin-Robbins? Can't say that I have. They're like… You know the ones. They're like half a Dunkin' Donuts, and they're open all night, and it's 3:00 a.m., and nobody's switching out those giant empty barrels of fudge ripple. That's me.

the truth is that bells hells can talk all they want about being on the same page and sacrificing themselves for this greater cause but they haven't even figured out that they're all part of this cause for different reasons. and orym choosing to go on this mission because he lost his family to these people and he believes this group is the only one who can help save the world and his leader is asking him to is very different from imogen choosing to go on this mission because she eventually realized she could never, ever hope to outrun something that has been haunting and chasing her her entire life.
orym is asking for her to be ready to face the worst case scenario head-on because this is war, but for orym the worst case scenario is failure. for imogen the worst case scenario is far beyond that – it's giving up her soul to this entity and becoming complicit if not an active participant in the methodical destruction of the world. and it's betraying the warnings her mother has given her for years, and it's living but completely losing herself in the process, all in an attempt to protect a world that has been nothing but cruel to her and a pantheon of gods that has never loved her.
and how would she face the fact that she's spent so much time and energy trying to convince herself that her mother can't be saved and her mother is the enemy, with this external pressure from both the party and the most powerful people in the world that she has to be ready to kill her? what do you do when you've forced yourself to hate your own mother and end up becoming just like her anyway? and how can you possibly risk giving in when giving in would mean that you hated your mother for nothing?
and ashton says let's not pretend this isn't going to happen one way or another. when imogen has been desperately clinging to the hope that she can resist this and that she has a future, a life after this where she can live in a cottage with the love of her life and she can have peace. when imogen has believed with her whole being that losing laudna to delilah isn't an inevitability, and all she wants is the rest of the party to do the same for her and predathos, and they just won't. and then wonder why she is so terrified of facing predathos when he tempts her with the rarest, simplest pleasures of belonging, of being understood, of being believed in.

"🌳 Would your OC survive for a week on their own in the wilderness?" and "🌊 Has your OC ever seen the ocean? If not, do they want to? What do they think of it?" for whoever you wish
I'll go ahead and answer for Deimos and Lethe since they've been on the brain recently.
Deimos:
🌳- Probably. He can hunt reasonably well and knows to stay the hell away from owlbears and such, and even though he's used to living in a city he's not used to excess or easily coming by the things he needs. Plus his magic would make keeping warm and lighting fires much easier. His main issue would probably be water but if he could find a stream then he'd be fine. Although let's be honest Deimos the kind of guy to drink out of a puddle and contract a disease. Hopefully a survivable one but it wouldn't help.
🌊- He's seen it! He's from a coastal city :> He likes it well enough and thinks it's pretty to look at but prefers to stay on land. Swimming isn't his strong suit and I feel like the sheer scale of the sea would freak him out a bit. On a boat in the middle of the ocean with just flat nothing on all sides and who knows what below him? That's scary stuff for a little freak of a man.
Lethe:
🌳- Lethe can survive the wilderness, but he would have a bad time. He survived alone in the Underdark for a while which I feel would have transferable skills (how to not be eaten by something that really wants to eat you) but he'd struggle with the elements (getting rained on and then chilled to the bone by wind for example). There's also his tendency to freak out and hurt animals which would be fine if it was something small he could eat, but fuck with the wrong creature and he would be in a lot of trouble. He's not helped by the fact that he can't really do magic all that well without an instrument so he'd struggle much more than Deimos. He would make it though. And he would know better than to drink out of a puddle.
🌊- He's seen multiple! He appreciates the beauty of it and the general poetic wonder of large bodies of water, but prefers them as metaphors. He doesn't know how to work a boat, he also never learnt to swim (it's all instinct mr freeman, I'm scared!!) so he admires it from a safe distance. Also being confined in a limited space with nowhere to escape to is a worrying prospect for a man who kills people uncontrollably sometimes. Boats and Lethe do not mix I would say.
Ask game (still up for more!) (even if you dont wanna ask click the link. I changed my blog theme :3)

I had sort of a crack idea of what would the non-human twst boys do if their crush or s/o was allergic to them? Savanaclaw and Octonivelle with like the fur allergy and seafood allergy. Maybe diasomnia’s s/o has some sort of fairy allergy? Sorry if this is too silly for you to write, it’s alright if you don’t 😭
I LOVE THIS BECAUSE I'VE HAD A SIMILAR THOUGHT i'm allergic to cats and i'm like...man what am I gonna do around Grim BUAHAHA...this is a great idea. Nothing is too silly to write my friend!
Non-human Twst boys reacting to a S/O who is allergic to them!
featuring: Savanaclaw and Octavinelle!
general warnings: gender neutral reader, not really proof read \
TW: None! just fluff. and allergies.
Leona
The first time you sneezed around him, they didn't know it was literally BECAUSE of him. This was until you two took a nap together for the first time, and when you woke up he saw your face...Oh, brother. Your eyes were puffy and red, congested, and your nose leaked like nobody's business. He genuinely felt bad about this, but wouldn't let you in on his true feelings/emotions. Without understanding the cause (though he had an inkling) he immediately took you to the doctor.
"They're allergic to me? What kind of shitty nonsense is that?!"
Leona invested in the most expensive of healthcare for you. Allergy pills and whatnot, because he wasn't about to sacrifice his lovely naps with his significant other. No amount of allergy is gonna stop him from getting what he wants, and that is your affection.
Ruggie
"Sooo...basically you're saying you're allergic to me? Cause' im part heyena?"
"It's a little more complicated than that. It's more like...animal dander? I guess?" You didn't seem to certain in your answer either, it was more or less a guess since...well, there wasn't half beast half human where you are from. You can only make an educated guess on why you're so allergic to him based off of the information you had back at home.
Ruggie is honestly so sad about this. He can't afford to get you any treatments or medical help with this, so you two just have to be careful. He does manage to get his hands on some special washing products (probably legally) and takes extra care of what he eats, and how clean he his. He's consistently brushing his hair and cleaning his ears.
"Man i'm such a simp. What's wrong with me?!" ...He isn't used to bending backward for people. But seeing you so sick around him, hurt him even more than his pride, so he of course would do anything to make sure you're as comfortable around him as possible. Ahh...the power of love <3
Jack
He gives me the "I must stay away from you for your own good," Type. Although this doesn't last very long. Jack is incredibly loyal, and he's far too attached to let you go. There's times where he would try and keep a distance (much to your annoyance), but when you began sneezing and itching your eyes you knew he was somewhere nearby. Jack is protective like that, but it pains his heart to see you so sick because of something he cannot control.
He does both a mix of what Ruggie and Leona does. He took up extra part-time jobs to afford good allergy medication for you, the entire works. Pills, eye drops, nasal sprays, breathing treatments...He also invests in high-quality shampoo and conditioner to help rid of his dander and hopefully reduce the amount of shedding he has.
With the amount of hair Jack has, he is CONSTANTLY brushing it and it is CONSTANTLY shedding. He does EVERYTHING under the sun to control this, all for you. Although... this is a partnership! You told him that a relationship goes two ways. You love him regardless of how itchy you may get, and you equally chip in to problem-solve.
You're both loyal to each other until the very end, no matter what trivial matters may get in your way <3
Azul
He knew before you two started dating that you had a severe allergy to seafood, so he made it a point to avoid you. But...that didn't stop YOU from coming to HIM. It was one of the things that drew him towards you, the way even though you were gaining a rash you would still wrap your arms around the back of him. Although it wasn't as bad in his human form, he was always terrified what would happen if he were to unleash his original form.
But worry not! We are talking about the literal king of potionology. He finds a remedy very quickly, and you trust him...a little too fast. He is astonished when he says;
"Take this...the second you drink this your allergies will be something of the past. But be warned-" You grabbed it out of his hand and chugged it. He stared at you with his jaw slacked open, his face turning a deep shade of hot red when you throw yourself onto Azul and place a big fat kiss against his cheek.
He imploded. But hey! his potion worked! He tried to get you to give him some sort of paypack, but you mentioned that your form of payment was in that kiss.
He now demands kisses every time he makes the potion for you <3 It's kind of a silent agreement. He just stares at you after you're done drinking it, and whenever you feign ignorance the point upon his lips is far too obvious.
Jade
The first time you broke out in hives, he remained completely calm. Jade is rather smart, and he understands your allergy must be because of his disposition as a mer-folk. Although in human form, he couldn't help but notice the way you would hide your rashes either behind makeup or by bulking clothing. He was amused by this for a moment, but when he saw it worsen he couldn't help but become worried.
"Why would you go so far for me? what do you gain by allowing yourself to become sick?" When you replied with a blush that you simply liked Jade, thus his shock soon turned into action. He excused himself for a few days to climb mountains and collect the most effective of flowers and medicinal remedies for allergies and put together a potion that you were able to take to alleviate your symptoms.
He isn't the vice house warden for nothing! His talents and magic prowess truly aided him, albeit in a way that was seemingly selfish. It was all worth it for you, though.
But he does use you as an example during a class project in potionology, having you stand up in front of the class while he compares your allergies before and after taking the potion.
He got a 100% in the project. And a Significant other. A win-win for everyone!
Floyd
Floyd is much smarter than he lets on. The moment he hugs you from behind and touches your arm, he notices the rash right away. He eyed it with a frown, and without saying anything he let go of you much to your dismay, leaving you to your lonesome for a few days on end.
You had to admit you missed Floyd, his silly jokes and way of talking, his unpredictable personality, and the attention he would often give y you. While sitting at the table during a free period, your head was propped up against your hand and a sad sigh escaping your lips.
"Ehhhh? Why is shrimpy sitting here all alone? Didya miss me?" A familiar voice teased as arms wrapped around you and something akin to a vegetable drink set in front of you. You gasped and smile up at the tall male, who wasn't wrapping his arms around you as you were used to, typically ignoring the itching of your rashes. He convinced you to drink what he sat in front of you, and although you eyed it with suspicion, you sighed and drank it in one gulp and tightly shut eyes.
Nothing happened. You turned to look over at Floyd, about to question the purpose of making you drink the (surprisingly tasty) smoothie-like liquid but were quickly interrupted by lips pressing against your own.
The kiss caught you off guard and you began to panic, talking about your allergy...before you realized that nothing was happening. No rash, no itchiness, nothing.
"Seeeee? It's a potion. I made Azul make it for me. Now I can touch you as much as I want," He smiled proudly. However he managed to convince Azul would forever be beyond you...
He forgets to give you the potion sometimes, only when you two are cuddling and a rash or itching pops up do the both of you realize it's time for a dose.
Ya'll are so silly for each other <3

we thought love was something (we weren't meant to find)
﹂ season two of "come home"
as you approach a year since will's disappearance, things seem to be back to how they were. you still have jonathan and the boys, hawkins is boring again, and you and steve harrington aren't really friends. you convince yourself that it's fine, but time can't heal all wounds, and you sure as hell have your fair share of them. when will starts having episodes and your brother hides a literal monster from you, junior year becomes a lot more painful than it already was. (and because you can never win, steve gets dragged into it). (more complicated feelings arise). (as usual).
episode one: MADMAX - what does steve fear more ? you or the plague ? currently it's you, some guy with an awful mullet stares you down in the parking lot (gross), nancy invites you to a party from your nightmares, and you become an official unlicensed therapist for will. yay for junior year !
episode two: trick or treat, freak - you and nancy have a bonding session in the library (kinda hot tbh), billy gives jonathan and steve a common cause to unite on: Protect Y/N, you're a chauffeur to a very sad steve harrington, and dustin uses will's trauma to his advantage.
episode three: the pollywog - you lecture jonathan about daddy issues and then have an intellectual debate about healthy relationships, you play Mr. Love Dr with Steve, nancy and jonathan go on a sick side quest (and actually inform you this time !), meanwhile: you're about to put a leash on your damn brother.
episode four: will the wise - jonathan is gone for one day and suddenly all hell breaks loose, your hesitant friendship with steve is already rocky (thanks billy) but steve is hot when he's angry tbh, you become a couple's counselor to lucas and max (sorry dustin), and you're now officially the world's worst cat owner ever. and babysitter. but what else is new ?
episode five: dig dug - you and dustin bury a body and con your mother into fleeing town, great sibling bonding time ! you play hockey with a monster, dustin gets ghosted by his friends, and now it's your turn to kidnap steve (technically dustin does, but you don't stop him) who later gives you some terrifying realizations.
episode six: the spy - dustin and steve haggle a butcher, you throw some meat at steve and then have a weird conversation about love, you stop dustin from becoming an incel, and then you wrestle some demodogs like any real woman would. side note: steve is hot protecting the kids.
episode seven: the mind flayer - jonathan is back and has a lot of questions and you have even more for him, the gang gets back together and ties will to a chair, you tell the kid a story to distract him from his demons, steve is a confused mess but at least youre with him, and someone makes a surprise appearance (her name rhymes with shell).
episode eight: the gate - you encourage nancy to take your place (everyone is shocked), you and steve are the newest babysitters in town, billy ruins things as always, tunnels are weird when youre concussed, you remind jonathan of an old promise, and when the snowball comes you make your own promise with steve that you know you can keep.
⌑ set between seasons 2 and 3
﹂ episode nine: the fall - surprise ! life still carries on even with minor brain damage from constant concussions :( on the bright side, you and the gang all become homies. meanwhile, steve grapples with the warm fuzzies and parental issues before his worst nightmare happens: you meet robin. the horrors !
⌑ status: FINISHED

Cherry Bomb (pt. 3)
Remus Lupin x f!reader, James Potter x f!reader (mentioned), Sirius Black x f!reader (mentioned)
Tumblr media
warnings: smut, p in v, i think it’s protected atp idk, fingering, underage smoking, very dom remus, long af but omg i’m so in love with it
summary: the last part of your plan is far harder to achieve than the first two and it’s far more complicated.
word count: 5k
a/n: ahhh here’s the last part (i think?) anyway sorry it’s long i got carried away but ugh i love remus so much. sorry if my characterization is off, ever since atyd i see him as sarcastic. yeah i love this, hope you guys do too :)
~~~
Out of all the marauders, Remus Lupin was by far the most liked. He was quiet, but not invisible. He was the most sensible out of all the boys and the most polite. Though he did tend to be witty and sarcastic, he was kind at heart. But he was also the hardest one to get close to. Quiet, reserved, beautiful Remus with his nose always stuck in a book. There was always something about him that made girls fall fast. But that was the thing. It was always so easy to fall in love with him. So, if one ever wanted to shag Remus Lupin, they would have to deal with the consequences of loving him. Because he was nothing like his mates. He didn’t shag just anyone. No. He had to choose you. And to be chosen by him was the biggest accomplishment and the biggest curse. Because once you get him, you will never want to let him go.
~~~
Avoiding two of the marauders is nearly impossible. Each corner you turn it seems you run into one of them, or both. And each time their eyes find you they show the same expressions. Confusion. Frustration. Perhaps even a bit of sadness. You debate throwing away the entire plan daily. It’s unfair, the way you’re playing with their minds. But the lingering knowledge that you’re so close to completing the plan entirely keeps you going. Because surely, all your hurt feelings can’t be for nothing.
Right?
You speak to James only once after your shag in the broom closet. It’s a week or two after, he’s been chasing you around, and you’ve been avoiding him. But you decide he deserves some amount of closure. Sweet, lovely, innocent James. You find him alone in the library and take your opportunity. The way he smiles when he sees you approaching makes your heart ache terribly and regret fills your stomach.
“Y/n I’ve been trying to catch you, how are you?” He asks once you’re close enough to hear his quiet tone.
He looks so happy, you feel sick.
“Yeah, I just you know… haven’t been feeling too great,” you lie.
“Oh, I’m sorry. Sit if you’d like, I’ve been attempting to study for the potions test. Aren’t you good with potions? Could you help me possibly?”
You inhale deeply. You could really use a cigarette right now. You’ve broken things off with guys before, but this feels different. In the other cases, you’ve had reasons. For this case though, you have none. James is innocent in all of this. It makes you nauseous.
“Listen, James,” you start, your voice soft. “What happened was great, I enjoyed it a lot, but it was a mistake. I like you, you’re very sweet, but I don’t think we should do anything else.”
Watching his face fall is by far the most horrid sight you’ve ever seen. All the happiness fades fast and leaves behind a bitter frown. He looks down at his papers, toying with his quill.
“I see…” He looks back up, a fake smile on his lips. “That’s alright, it was fun. I’m not really looking for anything serious like that either, so I understand.”
You swallow hard. “I really do like you James, believe me, but it’s just not the right time for this.”
“Don’t worry about it, it’s fine.”
“And...” You pause for a second. “You won’t tell anyone?”
He nods. “Not a soul. This will be our little secret.”
“Thank you.”
“Of course.”
“Well then, I’ll let you get back to your potions. Thanks for... everything.” You give him one last smile before turning on your heels and making your way out of the library.
You almost put an end to it right then and there, but then you see the tallest marauder walking down the hall with Peter. His hands are in his pockets, his book bag slung over one of his shoulders. For a split second his eyes meet yours as the two of you pass each other.
He gives you a small awkward smile.
Fuck.
~~~
To catch Remus Lupin alone you must take the risk of losing your house some points. You wait a week before making your move, for safety. After your conversation with James, the only marauder to pay attention to you is Sirius. He’s still set on telling everyone that the two of you shagged, but thankfully, not many people believe him. Not even his best mates.
It’s a very quiet night when you sneak out after curfew. A night you know one particular prefect is doing rounds on his own. You wander through the castle quietly, making sure to avoid the areas in which teachers lurk. Goosebumps form on your skin, you should’ve worn more than a tee-shirt and sweatpants, but you needed to look casual.
As you’re about to turn a corner, you spot Filch. Panic surfaces inside you and you quickly turn around and run as quietly as you can down the hall. You take a few turns and just as you’re about to relax, you hear a voice.
“It’s past curfew, what are you doing out here?”
Your heart stops for a completely different reason.
It’s him.
You turn to face him and shyly smile. You watch his face change as he recognizes you.
“Oh, it’s you.” He narrows his eyes. “Off to shag my mate again, are you?”
“I never shagged him,” you reply, crossing your arms over your chest. “And I’m out for a completely different reason.”
“What reason is that?”
You shrug. “Personal reason.”
“Ah well, hope it was worth losing your dear Ravenclaws ten points. Get back to your dorm before someone else catches you,” he says, turning away from you.
You watch as he walks down the hall, not giving you another thought. You would’ve replied sarcastically if you could speak for that matter. Once he disappears, all you can do is shamefully make your way back to your house's common room, now understanding why James likes being a chaser.
~~~
Some time passes before you get Remus alone. Each time you see him during the day, he’s accompanied by one of the marauders and you can’t sneak out during his rounds again because your fellow Ravenclaws were not pleased. You’re smoking behind the castle when you happen to finally catch him walking alone. You immediately take your chance.
“Lupin!” You call out to him. You get up from the bench you were sitting on and walk to him.
Thankfully, he stops walking and turns back to face you. “Y/l/n. Is there something I can help you with?”
You can tell from the tone of his voice he’s trying to be polite; it makes your insides warm.
“Yeah, actually there is. I was wondering if you could help me with my transfiguration essay. You’re the smartest lad in the year,” you answer, taking a small puff of your cigarette. You hold it up to offer him a hit, he shakes his head.
“Those things will kill you,” he says. “But I suppose I can help a bit. I assume you’re free right now?”
“Yes, I am.”
“Let me take a look.”
A smirk forms on your lips, and you let out a breath of smoke purposely into his face. “Take a girl to dinner first.”
He swats the air, fanning away the smoke. “Are you going to show me or not? I have things to take care of.”
“Sorry.” You hate the way your face burns. “Come see.”
The two of you make your way to the bench and you take out your essay. Truthfully, you are already finished with it, and you think your work is good. But much to your dismay, only a few seconds after he starts reading it, Remus takes out a muggle pen and begins crossing things off.
“What’s wrong?”
“Your spelling is shit, and you’ve contradicted your argument at least twice already and I’m only on the second paragraph,” he answers, his eyes glued to the paper. “Maybe if you spent more time studying than shagging and smoking, you’d have this information down. We reviewed it a few weeks ago.”
You scoff. “I have not been shagging.”
“Sure,” he mumbles, crossing off another sentence.
“I swear, Sirius is mistaken.” You lie.
He turns his head, his green eyes meeting yours. “Who said I was referring to Sirius?”
Your breath catches in your throat, and you cough due to the smoke. Is he talking about James? Your heart rate increases, and anxiety flows throughout your body. Did James tell? You catch your breath, your eyes meeting his again. He looks unamused.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I haven’t shagged anyone in months, not that it’s your business,” you say.
“You should really practice more on your lying; you are shit at it.” He hands your essay back to you and stands. “I left a few notes of some things you should change, but my biggest suggestion is that you reread the textbook, and perhaps find some more... enticing quotes. Is that all then? Like I said, I’ve got some other business to tend to.”
For a few seconds, all you can do is stare up at him, your mouth hung open ever so slightly. You previously thought Remus Lupin to be a timid boy who went along with the rest of the marauders because he couldn’t say no. Now though, you realize all those assumptions are wrong. He’s quiet, but not timid.
“What do you know?” You question.
“Quite a lot, thanks for the chat.”
Before you can even think of a response, he’s already walking away. You can’t let him slip away again.
“I’ll get it out of you Remus Lupin if it’s the last thing I do!”
He turns his head over his shoulder and chuckles, the sound sending warmth straight to your core. “We’ll see.”
And just like that, he’s gone, and you’re left flustered with rosy cheeks.
You did save the best for last.
~~~
Falling for the third marauder is easier than anything. Almost unconsciously, you begin to fail classes so that he can help you with work, you learn his route around the castle to see him at least once a day, and you sneak around the castle some nights, but he always ends up finding you somehow.
One night, a little over a month after you’ve started your game, something unexpected happens. You’re out after curfew once again, tiptoeing around the castle to see where the tallest prefect is when he appears from behind you. Like usual, he crosses his arms and clears his throat, making you quickly spin on your heels to face him. How does he always sneak up on you?
“How many times am I going to catch you before you start following the rules? I’m sure your fellow Ravenclaws aren’t too pleased with you,” he says. You look up at him, a genuine blush on your face. He narrows his eyes. “You want me to catch you, don’t you?”
“What?”
“You heard me.”
You look away nervously. The plan never involved gaining real feelings for any of the marauders, yet here you were. Standing in your sleepwear after curfew with your heart racing in your chest at the mere sight of one of them. Though you try to deny it, you know deep down you’re crushing hard, and you know it will only end badly.
“I uh... I don’t know what you’re talking about, I’m just on a little stroll back from a smoke that’s all,” you reply after a few seconds, your hands anxiously fiddling with one another.
He rolls his eyes. “Listen, I don’t know what your objective is or has been, but whatever it is it’s not going to happen.”
“Remus I-”
“Sirius, I understand, he would sleep with the giant squid if it had tits. But James, really? He may be more of an... active person than myself but he has far more feelings than you think.” He takes a step forward; he towers over you. You swear you can’t breathe. “You may have fooled them, but you don’t fool me. I can see right through you y/l/n and you’re sick.”
You move backward; he follows each step. “You... you don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Don’t I?”
Your back hits a wall, panic rises in you. Your eyes fall to his hands, and a bit of relief washes over you when you see he’s not holding his wand. But then another thought takes over. Is he going to hit you? When you look back up, he’s only inches away from you, his hazel eyes piercing down into yours. He places one of his hands on the wall next to your head. You can hear your heartbeat in your ears.
“I didn’t mean to cause any trouble, really. I’m sorry,” you mumble, your words genuine.
“So, what was your goal then? To shag all of us and take your pick of who’s best? Peter would’ve been far easier than James you know,” he replies.
“It was just a stupid idea, I don’t know. It didn’t mean anything deeper I swear.” You’re rambling now, the threat of tears evident in the burning of your eyes. You try your hardest to keep any from falling, you can’t cry in front of Remus.
He sighs. “You’re lucky Sirius is oblivious, and James is trusting. If they knew the truth, you’d have the whole school against you.”
“Wait, they don’t know?”
He rolls his eyes again. “Of course not. If they knew you’d be getting hexed almost all day every day.”
“Then how do you know?”
“I notice a lot more than people think. Did you honestly think no one saw you go up to our dorm with Sirius that night at the party? And did you honestly think none of us would notice James’s change in attitude? You think you know more than you actually do,” he explains.
For a few seconds, the two of you only stare at each other. You don’t know what to think. You should’ve known this would happen. Someone was going to catch on. You wish you had never done it. Any of it. Everything would be so much simpler if you’d simply stayed the quiet Ravenclaw girl who never interacted with the marauders. But you can’t go back, no matter how much you wish you could. You can only make it right moving forward.
“I’m sorry, truly Remus.” There’s so much more you want to say, but you can’t. You can’t fathom the words.
“If you’re truly sorry, stop. I won’t be the next pawn in your game,” he says, his voice slightly lower than before. You watch the way his eyes shift, the way he licks his lips, and moves his head down so he’s almost eye level with you. Your breath catches in your throat. “I suppose I pity you though because you and I both know this has become more than a game to you now.”
You turn your head, but he grabs your chin and forces you to look him in the eye.
“You fancy me.”
“I-”
“Don’t try to deny it. Like I said, I can see right through you.”
“It doesn’t matter. It’s over now,” you whisper, a tear nearly escaping one of your eyes.
He inhales deeply and you notice his eyes trail over your body for a moment before meeting your gaze again. “You’re right. It is over now.”
He lets go of you and backs away and for the first time since encountering him tonight, you feel like you can breathe normally. You stay on the wall, silently catching your breath as he walks further down the hall. But just before he’s about to turn a corner, he looks back at you.
“Or perhaps it’s simply my turn to play with you. Oh, and that’s twenty points from Ravenclaw. Goodnight.”
You fall asleep with his words burning in the back of your mind, and an ache between your thighs.
~~~
After that night, everything is different. You try to avoid them all and go back to the way things were before, you really do. You scribble out the page in your journal with their names, you keep your head down in the halls, and you skip the parties they host. It’s Remus who’s begun playing. Somehow, he continues knowing where you are and appears at random times. Whether you’re studying in the library, and he just so happens to need a book from that section, or you’re out by the lake with your friends and he walks by. You know it’s intentional, but it still manages to leave you hot and bothered each time.
“I thought you said the plan was off?” Your friend says one particular day when the two of you are eating lunch.
You look at her, confused. “It is.”
“Then why has Lupin been staring at you this whole meal?”
Instinctively, you look across the Great Hall and immediately catch those all-too-familiar hazel eyes. He doesn’t look away, at least, not for a moment. He stares at you with no shame, and even from the distance you can sense something different from the look in his eyes. Before you can fully figure it out though, he turns his attention back to the other three marauders.
“Did you shag him?” Your friend asks.
“No, I told you what happened,” you answer, focusing your attention back on the food on your plate. “I wish he’d stop.”
Your friend laughs. “Nah, you don’t.”
You hate how she’s right.
~~~
Nearly two months have passed when you finally confront Remus.
You’re sitting in the astronomy tower, a cigarette between your lips, and a scowl on your face. You can’t take it any longer. Wasn’t he the one who told you off? Wasnt he the one who told you to stop the games? He was. You know it. So, why has he kept it going? He had said that it was his turn, but that was many weeks ago. How long did he plan to keep this going? You let out a cloud of smoke, frustration taking over your body at the thoughts.
“How many points shall I take off tonight? Forty? Fifty?” You feel him sit next to you, but you refuse to look at him. “You haven’t been out after dark in a while though, I’ll give you that.”
“What do you want Lupin?” You ask, annoyed.
He chuckles. “What do any of us want really?”
You look at him with a straight face, hating the way butterflies take over your stomach at the sight of him so close to you. Despite the scars on his face, you find him more beautiful than any boy. More than James, even more than Sirius. There is something so extraordinary about Remus you can’t explain. You wish it would go away.
“Why can’t you leave me alone?” You question after taking another drag from the cigarette.
“I haven’t spoken to you in over a month, I don’t know what-”
“Yes, you know what I mean.” You cut him off. You exhale your last breath of smoke and throw the cigarette off the tower. “I’m trying to leave this all in the past and move on like you said but you’ve made it quite difficult.”
“Seems you don’t like the taste of your medicine love. It’s hard, isn’t it? Trying to avoid someone when they always seem to end up exactly where you are. It gets rather annoying, doesn’t it? Especially when you secretly enjoy it,” he replies.
Your eyes meet again and that familiar trouble to breathe begins. He’s looking at you in a way you don’t know how to feel about. It’s not like Sirius’s drunken stare or James’s needy stare. No. This one, though the same lustful, is far deeper.
“Just tell me what you want Remus,” you eventually say, your voice lower than before. “What do you want?”
“I want you to get out of my head. I want to look at you and feel nothing. I want everything to go back to how it was before you decided to fuck with my friends and me,” he answers.
You swear your heart stops for a few beats. “Then let all of that happen.”
“You think I haven’t tried?”
You stay silent.
“I never wanted this, any of it.”
You look down. “I know.”
“Don’t do that.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Merlin, I give up, you win y/n. You bloody win.”
You’re about to ask what he exactly means, but he acts faster. In the blink of an eye, his lips are on yours. You can’t grasp it at first. You’re kissing Remus Lupin; Remus Lupin is kissing you. The boy who unintentionally caught your heart is kissing you. It’s unbelievable, it’s undeniable, and it’s far from underrated. You don’t hesitate to kiss him back, even through your initial shock.
His hands cup your cheeks, his thumbs stroke your skin ever so gently. You wrap your arms around his neck, one of your hands toying with the hair on the back of his head. He’s a good kisser, very good. That’s why when he parts your lips, you protest.
“Why did you-”
“If we’re going to do this, you have to promise me it’s not a game anymore y/n.”
Your head is fuzzy from how intently he’s looking at you. “I promise Remus, that game has been over for a while.”
“You swear it?”
“I do. Do you?”
“Of course.” There are a few seconds of silence before he sighs, one of his fingers now playing with a piece of your hair. “We have to keep it secret.”
“I know,” you say.
He brushes the piece of hair behind your ear, the intimate gesture sending tingles throughout your body. “I don’t want it to be a quick shag either,” he adds.
“What do you want it to be then?”
The smile he gives you makes your stomach flip. “More.”
~~~
More from Remus Lupin is everything.
After that night, the two of you begin something you don’t exactly know how to name. You would call it a secret relationship, but the thought of that gives you a stomachache. The two of you don’t interact during the day, at least not where anyone else can see. He passes you in the hall as if you’re a stranger, but the second he catches you around a corner in an empty hallway he showers you with affection. And at night when the two of you sneak off, he touches you in ways you never thought possible.
He shows you so many new places in the castle you never knew of. Secret passages, secret rooms, all of it. You never question how he knows all of it, you only hold his hand tighter as he guides you. When he suggests a more secluded place to meet, you of course agree. Though, you never expect that place to be the shrieking shack.
“There’s no way you’re serious,” you say. The two of you are outside, near the Whomping Willow. You make sure to stay out of its reach. “The shrieking shack? That place is haunted, the ghosts don’t even go there because of how scary it is.”
“Obviously I’m not Sirius love, you only shagged him once,” he sarcastically replies, rolling his eyes to emphasize his joke.
“Remus.”
“The shrieking shack is not haunted, believe me, that’s only a silly rumor made so that people won’t go to it. Me, James, Sirius, and Peter go all the time. It has a bed, and given our activities I say we utilize that,” he explains.
You bite your lip. “Are you positive?”
He moves a bit closer to you and places a hand on your shoulder, leaning down so he’s at eye level with you. “You know I would never let anything hurt you, you can trust me.”
“Alright, but how are we supposed to get there so late? It’s in Hogsmeade,” you question.
He chuckles. “Haven’t you learned by now the marauders have many secret ways?”
“Yes, but we’re not in the castle right now how are we to- Remus don’t go any closer you’re going to get hurt you-” You pause, your mouth hung open as you watch the whomping willow go completely still. “How did you...”
“Secrets love, now come, it’s getting late,” he says, holding a hand out to you.
You don’t hesitate to take his hand and follow him into the tree, nothing else is said.
Surprisingly, the walk isn’t too long. It’s dark, gloomy, and a bit cold, but it’s not terrible. At the end of the tunnel, there’s a door. Something in Remus’s posture shifts, almost as if he’s anxious. You squeeze his hand to try to reassure him of whatever he needs, he gives you a smile through the dark that makes your cheeks warm.
The shrieking shack isn’t big, not at all. It’s a simple building with a few rooms and a short staircase. Remus brings the two of you to what you presume is the bedroom though the only indicator is a mattress, blanket, and pillow on the floor. There’s a small fireplace in the room as well, shockingly full of wood and some candles placed near the mattress. The entire shack is creaky and dusty, but you don’t mind. As long as there’s no ghosts, it’s perfect. Remus lets go of your hand and moves to start a fire. You sit down on the mattress and light the candles around.
“What do you guys use this place for?” You ask.
“It’s just a place we come to sometimes when we don’t want to be around other people,” he answers. His back is still turned to you, you could stare at it all day. “Sirius was the first one to discover it wasn’t haunted.”
“Oh? How did he find that out?”
“He’s always been the bravest out of us, though I think he just wanted another rule to break.”
You chuckle. “That sounds like him.”
He finally stands and turns to face you, a bright fire burning behind him. “You would know, you shagged him.”
“Oh, shut up,” you say as you slide off your shoes.
He begins to walk to you. “Can I ask you a question?”
“This context doesn’t seem good, but yes you can,” you reply.
“Be completely honest, out of the three of us, who’s the best?”
He’s standing right in front of you now. You look up at him, a coy smile on your lips, and begin to untie his shoelaces. “You are of course.”
“For some reason, I think your answer is biased,” he says with a laugh.
You trail your hands up his legs after he steps out of his sneakers, stopping once you reach his belt buckle. It quickly gets undone. “What would make you say that?”
He laughs again. “Just a hunch I guess.”
Your moment of control is taken fast when he pushes you down on the mattress, his lips attacking yours. It isn’t a lie though; he is the best. Unlike with Sirius and James, you share such deeper feelings for Remus. Each time he touches you, you practically melt into the palm of his hand. He’s caring. He’s gentle, but rough when need be. Though the two of you argue sometimes, it always is resolved with a hug, a kiss, or a shag. So, in the simplest of words, Remus Lupin is the perfect boy in every way.
All your clothes are discarded quickly, his too. He kisses you deeply as he uses his fingers on you. Sometimes you wonder where he’s learned all his skills from, but even thinking about him with another girl has started to make your stomach hurt. Instead, you focus on how good two of his fingers feel inside you. They’re so long, so slender. More than once in class you’ve been completely distracted by the sight of his hands, specifically his fingers, even more specifically when he’s wearing rings on them. They feel just as you imagine, extraordinary.
When you cum, you’re moaning a mess into his mouth, your body shaking. He milks every last bit of your orgasm out of you before stopping. You watch through heavy lids as he sucks his fingers clean of your cum, the sight makes you audibly groan.
“I need you,” you whisper, running one of your hands through his hair.
“Do you?” There’s something in the tone of his voice mixed with the way he’s looking at you that makes your heart ache in your chest.
You nod. “In so many ways Rem.”
“Promise?”
“Always.”
He moves inside you slowly at first, but he finds a decent pace after a few minutes. Because of his height, you weren’t at all surprised at the size of his cock. It’s by far the biggest you’ve ever encountered and the best. Though sometimes it leaves you sore, it always leaves you in a daze of dopamine.
Remus struggles to keep his head at your level as he fucks you. He presses soft kisses to your forehead, one of his hands intertwined with yours. You’ve never felt such intimacy in your life, it almost makes tears form in your eyes.
“Tell me you’re mine,” he says, his voice shaky. “Even if it’s not true.”
“I’m yours, Rem, completely,” you reply. His hips meet yours harder, and you moan. “All yours I’m all yours.”
Neither of you lasts much longer than that.
In the aftermath as the two of you hold each other, he rests his head on your chest. You run your fingers through his hair softly, the sound of his breathing like music to your ears. It’s at this moment you realize just how deeply you care for him. You hate what you did with that silly plan, but you don’t think you’d change it. If ending up in this moment only came from the plan, you’d do it over a million times.
“Is this real?” Remus asks after some time.
You sigh and press a kiss to the top of his head. “Yes. This is real.”
And so, it is.

06.13 PM
Your apartment has never felt so claustrophobic after that little moment you shared with Luca. You try to stay busy in the next hour —tidying up Alfie’s room even after he made it up, checking your email four times, even doing the laundry, for fuck’s sake— as Luca keeps to himself in the kitchen area. Whether Alfie is obliviously enjoying his screen time or purposely ignoring the weird tension between his parents, you’re not entirely sure. Right now, you’re just grateful that he’s not saying anything at the moment.
The boy simply creeps up to the kitchen counter with a shy eagerness about him. “How long ‘til dinner, Dad?”
“3 more minutes, Chef,” Luca answers, focused on the task at hand, so poker-faced that it makes his son giggle.
“I’m not a chef, you’re a chef!”
“Well, where I work, we call everyone in the kitchen ‘chef.’ Out of respect.”
Alfie climbs onto the dining bench in interest, peering up to watch his father set the dish on the plates meticulously. Luca doesn’t miss how the boy deeply inhales the delicious smell in the air.
“Smells yummy.”
“Thank you,” Luca replies, his excitement seems muted although his heart is soaring. He looks up to find Alfie staring at the plate, chin propped up on his little fist. You’ve always said that he looks just like his dad, but in that moment, Luca only sees you. Alfie has the way your mouth tugs ever so slightly into a smile, the way your eyes shine in childlike wonder. In quiet thoughtfulness.
No Michelin star, earned or retained, would ever amount to this.
“Can you go get your mum and tell her dinner’s ready, please?” He softly asks Alfie, as if not wanting to disrupt this peaceful silence. “Thank you, Chef.”
“Yes, chef.” The six-year-old salutes him and pads over to your home office, which doubles as the guest bedroom. The door is open, and he sees you reorganizing the linen closet with your back to him. He hugs you from behind, startling you.
“Oh!” You put your hand on his head, stroking him lightly. “Hey, bub.”
“Daddy told me to come get you and say dinner’s ready.”
“Gotcha. Thank you.” You half-expect him to run off like he usually does, but he lingers, his arms still wrapped around you. “What’s up, bubbie?”
“Nothing.” He buries his face against your side. “Love you, Mommy.”
“I love you too, bubbie.” This makes you smile, pleasantly surprised at this seemingly random admission.
“Love Daddy too, but don’t tell him that,” he whispers as he looks up at you, putting his forefinger in front of his mouth.
“Why not?”
“Sometimes he gets sad when I say that,” he murmurs. “He doesn’t tell me, but I know it.”
Oh. His playful exterior sometimes makes you forget just how emotionally sensitive he is. And it breaks your heart that he can see through the complicated adult emotions with his childlike eyes.
“Alfie…” you level with him and pull him closer, “Your dad loves you very very much, and I’m sure he’d be happy to hear you say that. He’s just sad because… he’s been away, and he misses you a lot.”
“He should come home, then.”
It’s so simple, the way Alfie puts it. His Dad comes home and reunites with him and you, and his puzzle would piece together perfectly again. And you all live happily ever after. The end.
The truth, of course, is not so simple. But maybe, just for tonight… Maybe you and Luca can sacrifice a few of your own puzzle pieces. For your baby boy.
So you get back on your feet and guide your son out of the room. “Come on, bub. Let’s see what Daddy cooked for us, hm?”
When you and Alfie turn the corner into the kitchen-living area, Luca is wiping the side of the plate neatly. He smiles at you somewhat nervously, like he’s not sure what to do with himself, so you throw him the figurative olive branch.
“Smells amazing,” you compliment him as you and Alfie take your seats. “What are we having, Chef?”
Luca’s eyes light up and your heart stops. You stopped calling him ‘Chef’ long ago, when the moniker became synonymous with workaholism and neglect. But there’s no venom in the way you say it tonight. Call him sentimental, but it reminds him of the early summer days in the tiny apartment you first shared in Chicago.
Of blueberry pies and barely there bumps.
He has to remind himself that this whole ‘happy family’ shtick is just a charade now, it’s all for Alfie, it doesn’t mean anything for the two of us, but he can’t help but miss this.
And little does he know, so do you.
“Well, buckle up, you guys, because we are having…” He carries the plates over and serves it to you and Alfie with a flourish, “Baked sweet potato wedges with Mediterranean dip, and our pièce-de-résistance… Alfie’s Nuggies.”
It looks nothing short of beautiful, with the wedges fanned out like autumn leaves underneath a colorful burst of cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, and feta cheese. The chicken nuggets are rich golden brown against the brilliant white plate. The splatters of sauce (is that Tahini?) is a hint of thoughtful chaos on the dish.
Your six-year-old let out a little noise of awe and amazement next to you, but no sound escapes you—not for the longest time.
“This is…” you look up at Luca as if he would have the word you’re looking for.
But his blue eyes just look a lot like I love you.
“Thank you,” you ultimately say, with absolutely no pretense whatsoever.
And if he does hear an ‘I love you’ hidden somewhere in there… he hopes he’s not imagining things.

08:37 PM
If you could travel just a few hours back in time and tell yourself that you would spend the whole day stuck at home in a nasty storm with your son and his father that you’re divorcing—and that you’d be okay with it, you would’ve probably scheduled yourself an MRI scan because clearly something is wrong.
But the night is winding down. Luca is tucking Alfie into bed for the first time in months. You are washing dishes in the quiet accompaniment of steady rain and running water, and everything feels just right.
“He’s out like a light,” Luca informs you quietly as he reemerges from Alfie’s bedroom and stops right by the kitchen counter. “Need a hand?”
“Nah, I’m just about done,” you casually wave him off. “You want anything to drink?”
“Uh… what do you got?”
“Scotch, gin…” you pause, not wanting him to get the wrong idea. The sink tap squeaks a little as you shut it off. “...wine.”
His heart skips. Don’t overthink it, he reminds himself. “Red or white?”
“Take your pick,” you shrug nonchalantly.
Luca reaches up to see the bottles of wine you have in store, and you try not to pay too much attention as his shirt rides up around the waist—or the sleeve, showing off the remnants of Alfie’s crayon work over his inks… you’re just two co-parents hanging out. It’s normal, right?
“What about the Malbec?” he eventually chooses, taking out the bottle.
He’s always loved Malbec—this particular brand of Malbec you brought him when he first invited you for dinner on your third date.
Don’t overthink it, you remind yourself. “Yeah, sure.”
You pick up two wine glasses and set them down on the dining table, shuffling into the corner bench. Luca settles into the other bench, directly against the kitchen counter, pouring the wine onto both glasses.
“How many bedtime stories did Alfie manage to get out of you?” you pipe up, swirling the purplish liquid around.
“Just one…” he sips on his wine thoughtfully. “Although he made me read it three times.”
You smile, bemused. “Which one was it?”
“‘The Bear Who Did.’”
“Ah, yeah. He’s been into that one lately,” you muse. “But… for what it’s worth, I’m glad he asked you to tuck him in tonight.”
The two of you exchange a soft look. A ceasefire. A truce, at least when it comes to your son. Because you really do want Luca to have a good relationship with Alfie.
“Me too.”
“And I’m sorry you had to… make do with spending the day with Alfie here.”
He shakes his head softly. “Nah, don’t be. I had a good time. It’s nice to just hang out… at home.”
At home, the words echo in your head.
With you, they echo in his, loud and unsaid.
“So, uh… how have you been?”
“Ah, you know how it is. Work is kicking my ass—my current client’s only two blocks away, but the house is a total fixer-upper, and Alfie’s… Alfie.” You don’t want to backtalk your own son, although you both know how trying he can be sometimes. “But it’s all good. My mom helps out with Alfie, and Jess insists that I go out and live a little every now and again.”
“And do you? Live a little?”
“I mean, within reason. I can’t go clubbing ‘til 4am anymore. I think I’m getting old…” you stretch your arms, feeling that soreness just from your daily activities.
Luca grins, raising his glass. “I hear you. I don’t even really go out anymore.”
“Seriously?”
“Mm-hm.”
You make an incredulous face. It would make sense for you not to go out much, with Alfie and everything. But he was alone, abroad… “Why, though?”
He just shrugs lightly. “I’m working. Whenever I’m off, I mostly just… eat or sleep.”
“I somehow find that hard to believe.” You take a dubious sip. You both know how much Luca enjoys grabbing a cheeky pint. He’s British; it’s in his blood, goddammit.
“Oh come on…”
“You don’t even go out drinking or whatever? Meet people?”
His gaze flashes towards you almost playfully. “Do you?”
Your face falls, not expecting to be caught so off-guard with such an innocent question. And upon seeing that, his face falls. Shit. And with that, the air between you shifts so dramatically.
Stupidly, you still try to save the conversation. “Of course my friends and I go out—”
“You know that’s not what I meant.” His voice darkens, his blue eyes piercing through you.
This conversation is a long time coming. It’s a natural progression of your relationship—or the lack thereof. You separate, you get divorced, and eventually you move on. Two years is a more than acceptable time to start dating again. And still, you phrase out your next words very carefully.
“I’ve been on dates here and there…”
Luca sucks in a slow, calculated breath. “Does Alfie know?”
You shake your head. “It’s nothing serious so far.”
He’s not sure what’s worse, the fact that it’s nothing serious, or that you’re holding out for something serious in the future.
“Look, we both know this is happening sooner or later…”
“I know,” he quickly recovers—or as much as he can recover. He just stares down the stem of his glass.  “It just… It’s a lot to take in, that’s all.”
“I understand.” The wine feels like gravel down your throat, and the words coming out of your mouth feel like throwing up a boulder.
“Because I do miss you.”
Your eyes immediately dart over to his, as if you’re not sure you heard it right. “Luca…”
“I miss you everyday. I miss us. I miss everything we used to have.”
Your heart catches—no, stops altogether at his admission. “Luca, we can’t do this anymo—”
He swallows thickly, his jaw setting as he braces himself. “I’ve been thinking about it everyday—the whole time I’m away, and frankly, I’m kicking myself over not telling you this sooner.”
“That’s probably just the homesickness talking.” You turn away. This can’t be possible. This can’t be happening. What the fuck?! “It got you reminiscing about the good old days. Give it time, you’ll come around.” You try to maintain a neutral, distant, cold approach to this, although the crack in your voice betrays you.
“No. That’s not it.”
“Then what the fuck is it?”
Your words cut through the quiet apartment like a flash bang. Luca stops dead in his tracks in his shock, and honestly, so do you. Awful silence hushes over the room, and both of you are almost too afraid to break it. Neither of you even dare to move.
After what seems like forever, Luca moves first. A tear escapes his eye, and he wipes it away with his knuckle hurriedly. “Noma should’ve been a dream. And it is, in a way. I guess.” He stares blankly ahead, his life in Copenhagen replaying in his head like it’s on fast-forward, and the playback seems to just highlight how lonely he is there. “But that doesn’t change the fact that I’m utterly miserable there. I get up and go to work and I just feel empty. Because what’s the point? You and Alfie are way over here, being a family while I’m… doing what?” He wants to tear his hair out, because this is everything he’s dreamed of, and yet he is living the stuff of nightmares. “It makes no fucking sense.”
It makes even less sense to you. You can’t even begin to process this tangled mess in your head. “Luca… we are almost officially divorced. You’re telling me this now? When everything is—”
“I thought I was doing what was best for you. I thought I should just… let you cut your losses and—”
“The best for me? How the fuck did you think giving up was the best way forward for me?” The thought of it burns your eyes with angry tears. They melt, and you don’t do a thing to stop it from running down your face. “You didn’t think to fight for us while you still could?”
Luca’s heart aches to see that. He is dying to reach out and wipe them away, but he can’t. His voice is quiet and small and almost childlike. “I tried. You were just so… sure about the divorce. You had it all figured out. And I… I thought you had no room for me anymore.”
“I had to keep it together. I had to figure it out—for Alfie’s sake. For mine.” You stare at your little potted sunflower on the windowsill. “I don’t see the point in being vulnerable with you anymore when you’re already set on leaving.”
The words have run out. The whirlwind of emotions has passed. What he feels and what he wants is now very clear.
“I shouldn’t have left.”
“Maybe you shouldn’t have.” You wished he didn’t. Everyday for the last two years. And everyday you set yourself up for disappointment because, the truth of the matter is, he did leave. So you stop wishing. “Because I don’t know how to come back from this. I really don’t.”
Nothing that comes out of your mouth is unexpected. But it doesn’t hurt any less to hear it from the horse’s mouth. “It’s just… seeing you guys today… We were a family again. And I would do anything for us to be a family again. Please.”
You sigh heavily. “What else is there to do, Luca…?”
“We can, I don’t know, figure something out, go to couples counseling—”
You groan in frustration, Jesus Christ not this again, wanting to tear your hair out when— CRASH! You accidentally knock over your wine glass and it shatters as it hits the floor. “Shit…”
“Mommy?” Alfie calls you from inside his room, sleepy but alert.
The two of you freeze just before you can move out of your seat. Afraid the slightest of noises would rattle your son.
“Yes, bubbie?” you try to sound bright and normal. Maybe if you can convince him that everything’s fine, he won’t come running in panic.
“What was that?”
“I just knocked over a glass, kiddo, everything’s okay. Go back to sleep.”
You and Luca wait a few seconds with bated breath. One, two, three… ten seconds go by, and there’s no movement in the bedroom.
The coast is clear.
You scramble down to pick up the shards of glass. The spilled wine looks like blood in the dim light of the room. It’s a painful reminder of the broken pieces of your former life, the casualties. He quickly follows suit, as if struggling to put it all back together. The irony is not lost on either of you, you’re sure of that.
“It’s fine, Luca. I got it, I—” a sharp piece of glass accidentally cuts your palm as you pick it up in hurry. “Fuck!”
“You okay?” He takes your hand as quick as lightning, wanting to inspect the wound, but you snatch it away.
“I’m fine.” You get up on your feet, teetering over to the sink, away from the crime scene, careful not to step on any piece of glass.
Yet he still follows you, walking over to where you’re standing now. “Come on. Let me just take a look.” He reaches out to your wrist, running little circles with his thumb to ease your grasp.
“It’s not a big deal…” you let him look anyway, you figure it’s easier to just let him do his thing than to argue your way out of it.
His calluses are brittle against your palm, but he handles you with the gentlest touch. The wound is not too big or too deep, but the sight of blood marring your palm makes his heart drop. There’s no visible piece stuck to it, that’s a good sign, he thinks. He rips off some paper towel and wets it on the sink, and softly dab at the gash, cleaning the wound and wiping the blood off.
You grit your teeth, not wanting to show any sign of pain although it stings. “It’s just a little cut…” your tone bears less and less conviction, as if you have no energy left to argue with him on such a small matter.
There’s a very particular way his eyebrows arch when he’s deep in thought. The left one always sits slightly higher than the right. Blue eyes fixed on the object of his focus. A minute gesture behind the chaos in his head. “You need a Band-Aid,” he points out.
“It’s in the—”
Luca is already opening the drawer next to the stove, taking out a packet of a Star Wars-themed Band-Aid. He still remembers where everything is, and you can’t tell whether the ache in your chest is a good or bad thing.
He puts the Band-Aid on your cut, then takes your hand close to kiss it better, like he used to do.
“Um.” You freeze in your tracks, taken aback. And it seems he’s just as equally as taken aback by his own action. He is flushed with embarrassment, and you feel your face growing hot as well.
He’s the first to break the awkward silence, quiet and tentative. “I’ll clean up the mess. You just hang tight.”
It seems so mundane, sweeping broken glass and cleaning the floor. His body registers it as a simple muscle memory—he must’ve cleaned up messes on this very spot a million times. But his heart is heavy with the burden of your history, and all the pain that comes with your separation. He might not be able to put the pieces back together, but maybe he can clean up the mess and make it nice again for you.
And all the while, you’re stuck to the kitchen counter, watching him so effortlessly reacquainted with his former home. It’s as if he never left. For a confusing moment, it feels like home again. How did you manage without this view, this presence for so long?
Luca puts away the debris in the trash, hidden away in another kitchen drawer next to you, and hovers in front of you, as if wanting to reach out and touch you… but too afraid you’ll push him away.
“Does it still hurt?”
You can’t tear your eyes off of his. The little cut on your hand is but a dull ache now, but the insides of your chest feels like it’s been mangled beyond repair. You burst into tears, sobs ripping through the seams.
His arms wrap around you, keeping your tattered pieces together. Your face is buried in his chest, surrounded by soft cotton and earthy perfume, and your first thought is you can’t remember the last time you were in his arms like this. You rake your mind through all the memories, all the times you hugged each other hello and goodbye and all the times in between, and you can’t remember the last time you stopped, why would you stop—
“My love…” Luca’s voice soothes you, so quietly murmured against your forehead with a soft kiss, yet rings so clear in your ears. He cups your face with both hands, wiping the tears away with his thumbs. “It’s okay... I got you.”
The palm of his hand grazes your lips, and you kiss it the way he kisses your Band-Aid earlier. You have no energy left to fight whatever is going on inside you. You don’t understand the nagging urge to be away from him, when being close to him feels this good. You miss his touch and his voice and his face, and you’re so overwhelmed with longing that you close the distance between your lips and his.
Luca gasps when you kiss him—and it feels like the first breath he’s drawn in two years. Your lips are just as he remembers, just as warm and inviting and familiar, and he relishes coming home to them tonight. He didn’t think he would be so lucky ever again, but now you’re here, kissing life back into him again.
Against your better judgment, you stumble into the bedroom, careful to make as little sound as possible as you tread down the hallway. Still tangled in each other. Refusing to let go even for a second. His five o’clock shadow scratches your skin, following the trail of his lips down your neck.
You push him into bed and climb on top of him without a single thought. You need him close, closer than the past two years, closer than now, and your clothes feel like they’re in the way. Of his hands, of his mouth, of his warmth…
You tear your dress off and throw it away, and he stops in his tracks. He has every part of you memorized, every curve and every ridge, every notch of your stretch marks, every inch of your C-section scar from Alfie’s birth… and yet he’s looking at you for the first time all over again.
“Beautiful…” it escapes his mouth just like that, and you kiss him senseless in return. You worry that if you stop, the moment will pass and this whole thing turns out to be just an illusion.
Or worse, a mistake.
You tug his t-shirt over his head, trying not to linger on his broad chest too long. He gets the idea—he is dying to say something, but doesn’t—and just unclasps your bra in response. He keeps his mouth busy by kissing and licking and sucking your newly exposed breasts.
It’s not that you haven’t been touched like this in a while; it’s just that you haven’t been touched by him like this for so long.. “Luca…”
He never thought he’d hear that again. His name in a wanton sigh, uttered by the lost love of his life. He’s not one to waste his chance. “It’s okay. I got you, my love. I got you.”
Because for the first time in a long time, it’s true. He’s got you. He’s got your body underneath him, your nipple in his mouth, your sweet sex in his hand.
God.
You’re so soft, so warm, so wet against his fingers. The little stuttered moan you let out sounds absolutely heavenly. He remembers exactly the last time he was here.
Christmas Eve, two years ago.
Things had been tense long before that, but Luca was home and able to spend some time with his wife and kid at last. You didn’t seem all that chuffed having him around—whether he was here or not brought out that “neutral look of displeasure” from you these days— but at least you didn’t pull away when he rested his head on your shoulder as the three of you watched Jurassic Park (Alfie’s all-time favorite). Didn’t roll your eyes and turn away when he kissed you and wished you happy Christmas before bed.
And he wanted so desperately for you to openly want him again.
So he tentatively deepened the kiss and reiterated his love for you in every inch of your body that he could get his hands on. Trying to convince you that he was still here. Trying to convince himself that with every orgasm he pried out of you, that you still wanted him there.
But you just… laid there and watched. Hands locked in on the sheets, not even touching him. Motionless as he went through the motions of his thrusts. Numb as he touched and kissed and fucked you the way you used to like. He was fighting a losing battle. He might as well have been making love to a ghost.
“Luca…” Your breathless voice snaps him out of his own intrusive thoughts, more clear and alive and real than any memory of you posing no desire for him.
“I— yeah, sorry. I just…” he shakes off his own thoughts.
“Hurry up, come on…” you needily thrust yourself into his hand.
“You sure?”
No, and neither does he. But at this point, you’re much too stubborn about your decision in the divorce and much too prideful to admit that you want him back and maybe just a tad too eager to make a mistake with him.
So you nod your head yes, and with a searing kiss, he fingerfucks you the way you needed him to.
“Oh, God… fuck…” you sigh under the undoing of his fingers. It’s like he never forgot how to work your body. His fingers play a pattern on your clit that makes you sing. And when one slides into you, crooking and curling against your silky heat…
“Luca, I— now.”
He unlatches his mouth from your nipple almost begrudgingly, as if too sweet to part with you. “Not yet, baby. We can’t…”
“What, why?”
“Because…” he nips at the smooth flesh of your chest thoughtfully. How can he explain it to you in a way that makes sense? “I want…” to take as much time with you as possible, he adds another finger inside you deliciously slow. “I need…” to feel you in every way first, he chants in his head as he kisses you through your orgasm.
Your resolve is slipping, but the craving is as ravenous as ever. You try to squirm in protest anyway. “But…”
“Please.” His lips press against your forehead, eyes squeezed shut. “I got you, okay?”
His blue eyes meet yours, as familiar as the sky you’ve walked under your whole life. As sure as day. And before you realize it, you find yourself nodding along.
Watching him slither further down your body. Mouth paving the way between the valleys of your breasts, up the diamond-hard tops of your nipples.
Down your torso.
Between your nether lips.
You don’t remember the last time you did this either. Memories of attempts to rekindle the romance flash before your eyes. The nights that he climbed into bed late at night after work, still smelling like chocolate or mint or whatever ingredient he was working with that day. Waking you up with the parting of your legs and hushed kisses saying, “Missed you so much, baby…”
“Right there. Yes…” you pant as he laps you up where you’re dripping, catching every drop and coaxing more at the same time.
His eyes close, and he swallows back a needy groan. “Come for me, baby.”
The words shoot right into your core, and you’re suddenly overcome with the waves of pleasure running through you, grinding your hips into his mouth shamelessly. Has he always been so greedy in the way he ate you out?
Your head is spinning with need and you hope the broken words you string up are comprehensible enough for him. “Luca, come on, I can’t—”
“No, please—” he seems to understand just fine, but still he shakes his head and buries his face deeper into you.
“Luca…”
“Wait, just let me—”
So insistent. So stubborn. So… needy. You grasp a fistful of hair on the back of his head. Both heaving, you breathe out,
“Please.”
The word stops him in his tracks. But it’s not so much the word as it is the gravity that comes with it. Whatever the two of you are doing, whatever you’re feeling is beyond words at this point.
It’s just you and him and this need.
And as much as he wants—needs— to satisfy his hunger, there’s just no way of stopping you anymore. Truth be told, he’s not even sure why he’s been stalling you in the first place. Not when you’re so eager to tug his clothes off and touch him absolutely everywhere. To stroke him, and taste him…
“No, baby.” He stops you just before you slither down his body, settling you back on the bed and caging you underneath him.
You throw him a look, indignant. If he’s gonna hold it off some more, you swear to God—
“No, I…” he kisses you hard, hoping you’ll get that he wants you too. More than anything. And that he’ll give you what you want. Hell, he would give you anything if he could come back to this again for the rest of his life. “Just trust me, okay?”
You marvel at the sight before you. So tall and broad and sturdy. With dark blond locks tousled in passion and eyes lidded from lust and longing, and it makes your heart stop because… there it is.
Love.
As much as you shut it out and as much as you avoid it, love is permanently etched to his actions. Tattooed onto the smallest of things. In the way he kisses your temple softly, and the way he caresses your skin as he aligns himself against you, and the way he holds you as he pushes in…
“Luca…” you gasp sharply.
He stops halfway into you, his eyes searching your face with compassion. “You okay?”
You’re aching and craving the stretch of him all at once, but you wouldn’t have it any other way, so you ultimately nod your head. I’m okay.
And he knows that deep down. He feels the same. Soothed and tormented by your very presence, although he can’t help but ask, “Do you want me to stop?” Please don’t ask me to stop…
You shake your head quickly. Neither of you would ever dream of it. You would take everything—the weight and the sting of it all— and he would leave everything behind just to have this again.
Your hips colliding again in a frenzy of a rhythm you haven’t played in so long—still remembering every beat like it’s your own pulse. Your walls gripping him like you wouldn’t let him go.
He shudders a little. “I’m gonna come if you keep doing that…”
“I don’t care,” you murmur into his neck with a kiss, “Come.”
“What…?” He can’t have heard that right… right?
“I want you to.”
“Jesus…” he breathes out. “I wanna make this last, baby—”
You shake your head again and wrap your legs around him almost demandingly. “I want you to come inside me and fill me the fuck up… want you dripping down my legs… please…”
“Fuck!” The images flash before his eyes faster than he can stop his hands from grabbing you by the hips, slamming himself into you.
Nor can he stop himself from coming deep inside you.
There’s no way to describe the way he feels at that moment. The way tension peaks and snaps into release. How it brings you into your climax as well. Your lips must be swollen from the assault of your own teeth as you hold back the filthy noises coming out of you. You don’t mind the building ache in your thigh muscles, because as soon as that warmth fills you up, your body is overcome by waves of bliss.
“Fuck…” he flops back onto his side of the bed—the right side—and quickly gathers you in his chest. It’s an effortless little maneuver, making sense at last as you lay half on top of him.
Your hand finds his—more puzzle pieces coming together as he fills the spaces between your fingers. You bring it to your lips, pressing a kiss to his knuckles. Surprised to find the gold wedding band still adorning his ring finger.
***
9:56 PM
“Was that really your first time since we… you know?” Your murmured question rings loud in the absence of the rain. The storm has finally passed, but neither of you move—neither even dare to bring it up— afraid to ruin the moment.
“It was.”
“Not even in a casual, ‘no strings attached’ kind of situation?”
“No.” He looks almost embarrassed to admit it, but there is no hesitation in his answer.
“Wow…” your heart sinks. Is it possible to feel good and bad at the same time?
Luca pauses for a moment. You can see the conflict brewing in his head. “Did you?”
You don’t have to answer. The sheer silence you take is an answer enough.
The confirmation feels like shit, but he tries to stay neutral. His thumb stills on the back of your hand. “Can I ask how many?”
“Gosh, does that even matter?” You sigh. There’s another argument coming—you can feel it.
“No, I just… I wanna know.”
“You don’t really wanna know.”
“Is it a lot?”
“I mean…”
“How many?”
You take in a sharp breath. There’s no way out of this now. If the truth is what he wants, then the truth is what he shall get. “Twelve.”
He tenses up next to you. The whole world stops, and you can’t help but think, it’s over. There is no way this marriage is salvageable now. “What…?”
“I know that it’s a big number, and I know you might be upset—”
“That is a big number.” He doesn’t say anything about the latter part of her sentence, but it’s obvious that he’s upset, too. “I just… why?”
“I was trying to get over you.” It’s a pathetic answer, but that’s all it is to it. “I couldn’t sleep in this bed for months. I just couldn’t. Slept on the guest bed instead,” you motion at the next room, “and then one day, I couldn’t take it anymore. It’s like a switch flipped inside my brain, and I needed to—”
“What?”
“I needed to… overwrite the memories of you,” you admit feebly. “On this bed. On my body.”
Knife, meet heart. He’s not sure what answer he was expecting, but whatever it was, this hurts so much more. “And did it work?”
“Up to a point…” you pause, a sad smile in realization. “It’s funny. I keep getting bits and pieces of you somehow.”
“What do you mean?”
You close your eyes, your memories flashing, reminding you that every single time reminds you of Luca one way or another. “It’s… somebody’s perfume, or the timbre of their voice, or the way they hold my hand…”
“And you see me in them?”
“Every single one.”
“Jesus…” Luca finds himself relieved and choked up at the same time. He doesn’t want you to ever get rid of your memories of him, but at the same time, it’s painful to hear that you tried anyway.
And you tried very hard.
“I’m sorry.”
He hums, and you realize… he hasn’t let go of your hand. Not once. Not even after your little confession. It makes the argument easier, knowing he’s there. It’ll be easier to part with him again after tonight, you hope, knowing you both did your best to understand. Why you needed to be apart. Why you did the things you did.
The armor has been shed, and the two of you are now naked, in every sense of the word.
Luca turns to look at you, studying your profile. He remembers the last time he was here.
He had just told you about Denmark. Stupid of him to feel excited, to tell you he’d just been offered his dream job, to ask you and Alfie to move someplace new with him, because it turned into a fight.
Worse than a fight; it was a death sentence.
You turned away and stared at the ceiling, and told him you couldn’t do this anymore.
And in some fucked up way, Luca feels as if he’d been brought back in time, and this is his one chance to make it right. So he asks you,
“Do you still love me?”
You breathe out, heart clenching because in spite of yourself, “I do.”
“Do you want us to try again?”
“Luca…” you sigh heavily, “How would that even work? Alfie and I are here, and you have Noma–”
“No more Noma. I’m giving that up.” The answer is straightforward, and he surprises himself over how easily it rolls off of his tongue. How right.
“What? You wouldn’t…” Your face falls as you turn to him.
“I would. And I am,” he says firmly. “Look, I’ve thought about this for months now. I can’t do Noma anymore, I need to be home.” His gaze softens, and you feel the pattern running on the back of your hand again.
Slow and steady and certain.
The tear rolls off the corner of your eye and onto the pillow with the tiniest drop. “I wanted you to come home…”
“Then let me come home. Please?”
“I want to. I just…” you reach out and cup his face tentatively. “I just want to make sure that we’re not doing anything rash.”
His eyes light up. The only thing that matters is that you want him home, too. It takes him everything to let his logical part of the brain take control. “How about this, then?” Luca pauses thoughtfully. “We’ll take a minute. For me to sort out everything at Noma, find a replacement… and for us to figure out if this is really what we wanna do.
“If it starts to feel like a bad idea, maybe we should rethink it. But if it feels good… maybe we can give it another shot.
“And in the meantime, we’ll talk. We’ll FaceTime and… figure out what the hell to say to our lawyers.”
That makes you grimace. You were supposed to have another meeting with your divorce lawyers. Tomorrow is going to be awkward. But awkward beats saying goodbye to the man you’ve always loved, right? It’s a small price to pay.
“What do you say, baby?” He looks at you with all the hope that he has. “Just give me a minute to get everything sorted and then I’ll come home.”
You smile tearfully. “A minute is not enough… how about a month, hm?”
“Yeah, that makes more sense, actually.” He chuckles sheepishly. “A month. I can do that.”
“Good.” You sidle up to him and kiss him where his heart is. You’re willing to settle for having him just for the night, but you can’t wait until he comes home to you for good.
You hope he will.

Ferrari Red .3
Tumblr media
summary: Tensions run high between the beloved Ferrari boy and his girlfriend after a complicated Austin GP. Pictures and rumors surface, catching the eye of Y/n.
pairing: charles leclerc x fem! reader
warnings: angst, Ferrari boys red flags, alcohol consumption, toxic actions, throwing up
Previously: “We have to go” She says, her eyes traveling around the club rapidly.
“Why-“ You ask, trying to keep up with her, but then you finally realized why, or more so saw why.
Charles Leclerc was standing only four feet in-front of you with a look of pure rage on his face.
LIGHTS OUT AND AWAY WE GO
All you could do was stand there frozen looking at Charles, you had never seen him so mad. Sadie continues to yank you away from Charles, but he's quicker.
“She's coming with me Sadie”, Charles growls out, grabbing your other arm and pulling you into him. Sadie doesn't say anything, rolling her eyes as she walks away, in search of a different guy to flirt with.
“I told you she was a shitty friend cheri..”, He murmurs to you, leading you through the club and towards the doors. You don't object, since you don't know if anyone could be filming, after all it was a very public club in Monaco.
Once outside the lights of Monaco illuminate everything, you break away from Charles grip and opt to walk next to him towards his Ferrari, not questioning where he's taking you.
Charles opens the passenger side door for you, moving so you can get in. Charles is quick to get into the driver's side, starting the car and going a bit over the speed limit to your shared apartment.
Finally back in the comfort of your shared apartment you look to Charles, crossing your arms over your chest. “What is your issue?”, You ask with irritation in your voice.
“Who was that guy?”, Charles asks, anger and pain clear in his face. “I don't see why it matters…you went off in Austin and did the same thing to me”, You state, rolling your eyes as he rubs a hand over his face.
“Just- just tell me who cheri..”, he begs out voice breaking. You let out a sigh, “I..I don't know, some random guy named Lucas I think? Maybe Liam?”, you say trying to recall when you had kissed him, but your mind goes blank.
“Did it mean anything?”
“What?”
“Kissing him, did it mean anything?”, he repeats, his eyes searching yours as you lean up against the kitchen counter.
“What if it did? I don't see why you're so upset Charles, you kissed a random girl, better yet you felt her up! That broke me…you dont- you dont get to be mad and act like you did nothing wrong!”, you say, voice growing with anger and wavering.
“I’m not saying I didn't do anything wrong Y/n! You're mine..I'm the only one who gets to kiss you! Who gets to touch you and make you smile!”, Charles says his voice raising as he moves closer to you, his hands instinctively going to your hips.
“No..no..I'm not yours Charles! You lost me as soon as you kissed that other girl!”, you say, pushing him away from you. Then with one look at him you realized just how much your words hit him.
You can see tears fall from his eyes, lips parted to say something but nothing comes out from his mouth. Just a few seconds later you realize why he's gone silent. Jules and his father. He couldn’t lose you too.
“No..cheri, please no”, he begs out, voice breaking with a soft tone, more tears falling from his face.
With a shaky hand, Charles reaches out towards you and caresses your face with his hand, wiping the still falling tears off your face.
“I need a break Charles..” You softly say, looking him in his eyes once more. Instead of saying anything he simply presses a kiss to your forehead then one to your lips, cherishing it for one more moment before you leave, at least for the meantime.
“I’ll pack a small bag and stay with Sadie..” You say, breaking away from Charles with a sad smile on your face.
“How long?”
“I..I don't know Charles'” You mumble out, walking away from him to quickly pack a small bag for Sadies apartment.
“Why must you stay with Sadie?” He asks out, watching as you pack up a bag. “She offered for me to” You grumble out, throwing some last essentials into your bag.
“Why do you care anyway?” You add on, rolling your eyes as you walk out of your bedroom and back into the living area, planning on leaving soon.
Charles doesn’t say anything, silently following you, his eyes focused on your every move.
“When will I hear from you?” He softly asks, moving close enough to lace your fingers together.
“I’m not sure..” You say, turning to face him, looking over him one more time you pull your hand away from his, opening the door to your apartment then shutting it softly behind you.
Charles simply stood there, tears forming in his eyes again. Looking down at his hand that was once in yours he lets out a groan, wishing he hadn’t kissed or even looked at that girl.
radio: Honestly might end this series with a sad ending, that would be fun (At least for me). Once again leave any requests and comments! I’m slowly running out of ideas and energy, so requests are appreciated :)

cherry flavored problems! ✭
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: idol!yang jeongin x nonidol!gn!reader
synopsis: it’s hard to be affectionate with your boyfriend in public, as there is always the doubt of being observed.
genre: fluff, some angst. drabble.
warnings: self conscious thoughts, kissing.
word count: 0.5k
a/n: jeongin has been serving so hard this cb i couldn’t keep myself from writing for him. this is basically a copy-pasted scene from nevertheless (pls tell me you’ve watched it), hope you enjoy<3
Tumblr media
hiding was something you did very well, however, you didn’t think you would end up needing to hide your relationship with your boyfriend.
dating an idol is… complicated at best. with time, it has become easier to cover the nature of your relationship, the mentality of hiding easily infiltrating your brain. and that’s why you are asking yourself what the hell is yang jeongin doing talking to you in the middle of campus.
he had caught you going down the stairs, which were very unconventionally situated in a very visible place, so why was he here?
“what are you doing? do you want to die from your manager’s wrath?”
he laughs, a dimple appears on his cheek and his hand runs through his hair. you can’t help but smile too. the lollipop on his other hand is hanging right to his leg, which makes you afraid that it’s going to stain the surely very expensive jeans your boyfriend is wearing.
“what flavor is that?”
his eyes lock with yours, not caring slightly about the possibility of paparazzis being around. after licking the lollipop one more time, his hand rests on the railing behind you. before you know it his lips are on yours and you can feel the candy flavor on them. is it cherry or strawberry? without giving yourself much more time to discover it, you push him back by his chest and turn completely to the other side, hand covering your mouth.
when you turn again, he is already looking at you, a small smile on and head getting closer to you.
“did you get the flavor?”
his thumb goes over your lower lip, where sugar from the candy was left. feeling suddenly shy, you look down, feeling too embarrassed for no reason.
doubs cloud your mind and anxiety takes over your body. at the end of the day, you are only an university student. he could have chosen anyone he wanted, any other idol who had their fans at their feet from how pretty they look on stage. you are just a random person, and he is the boy named maknae on top. why was he even risking it all for you?
“anyone can see us innie.”
your voice is laced with sadness, regret even. he sighs and places his hand on your shoulder, shaking it slowly.
“i don’t care, i just want to be able to kiss you in public without feeling the guilt eating me up.”
swallowing down all your second thoughts, you hug him. his body is tense for a few seconds until you start playing with his hair, making him hum calmly.
smiling playfully, he kisses you once again. when you identify the cherry flavor in his lips, you smile into the kiss. his hand travels from your jaw to your neck, making circles on the surface. its weird, but honestly comforting. with your hand holding his arm, he feels at ease, the most carefree he has been in a very long time.
“fuck dating rumours.”
you laugh and leave a kiss on his hand. “fuck dating rumours indeed.”

Sweet girl || Jake Sully
Tumblr media
Jake Sully x Daughter! Reader
Summary: You miss your former home and find it difficult to make friends in the new clan, so your father Jake cheers you up when he sees you sad.
Note: Sorry for spelling and grammatical errors, English is not my first language. <3
Daddy jake warms my heart, I love that side of him.
Tumblr media
You were sitting on one of the bridges of the reef with your feet dangling as you looked at the water, your eyes were teary from the abrupt change of life. It was hard for you to adjust to this home, you had all your memories with the Omaticaya clan, you had your friends there and your history in general.
Neytiri looked at you from afar hurting her heart for seeing you sad, knowing you needed a hug she was going to go with you when Tuk called her because she couldn't sleep.
"You go with Tuk, I'll go with her" Jake told her, and even though Neytiri wanted to go with you, she knew that talking to your dad would make you feel better.
"What's wrong my sweet girl?" he asked you as he sat down with you "Did something bad happen to you? "he asked again but only got a head shake.
"Talk to me please" He begged you, he hated seeing you like this, you were his sweet little girl, though of course not so little anymore since you were the same age as Lo'ak. "I miss home" You said softly "I miss the quiet and my former routine, I miss flying and being among the trees" Your voice became a whisper every time you spoke.
He missed it too, and he knew it was his fault that you were suffering, so he pulled you tighter against his body as he placed kisses on your head. "I'm having a hard time adjusting, Dad. I don't know how" It was complicated, you always had a more shy attitude than the others, it wasn't that you didn't have friends or anything, but it took you a little longer to have them.
"You know, when you were more of a child and started interacting with the other kids, you had a harder time than your siblings, we all noticed it, but we all knew you would make them the same because you have a charming personality that makes them want to be your friends, but they wait for you to come closer because they notice your shyness" He told you stroking your hair "Come closer without fear, they are waiting for you to step up"
Your teary eyes looked for the first time in the night at your father, freezing his heart, your wonderful eyes the same as his. "I know you'll be able to get used to it here, just take as much time as you need, my sweet girl."
"Do you think they want to be my friends?" You asked as you looked around at the other boys your age "Sure they do, I think some of them want to be more than your friends" He let you know as he raised his eyebrows making you guffaw.
"I'll try to get closer, thanks for listening to me, dad "You told him giving him a smile "Always for you, my sweet girl. You should have talked to me about this before if it was getting complicated for you, you know we always find a solution."
"I know, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to overwhelm you or mom, I know you guys are with other things on your mind."
"We are never busy for you guys, you are our priority" He said pulling you closer to his body. "For the other one come closer to some, sweet girl".
"Thank you, daddy."

“The queerness of Mother 3 is a complicated thing. It’s ever present but just how much is supposed to be played for jokes and just how much is to be taken sincerely remains unclear. At the center of this is our protagonist, Lucas. Lucas is an absolute softy, a total mama’s boy. He is not fast, strong, or brave. All of those qualities are held by his adventurous twin brother, Claus. When their mother, Hinawa, dies, Claus swears revenge and embarks on a journey, but Lucas just cries. He visits his mother’s grave daily. He’s not looking for adventure or vengeance, he’s just sad.
It’s through these early sections of grief that Lucas’s queerness begins to appear. He’s incredibly close with his mother. His father, Flint, is generally absent and when he is present seems more concerned with finding Claus than raising Lucas. Lucas is sensitive to a fault and in opposition with the world around him, one where boys play outside trying to tackle dinosaurs all day. As his village, Tazmily, leaves behind its early idealism in favor of a more commercial existence, its citizens become darker, more sinister. They’re meaner, harder, and also apathetic to the changes around them. The more they change the more it highlights how different Lucas is. He stays soft, he cares so much, he just wants to help.
Lucas’s greatest strength is his softness, his kindness. …In the final battle of the game we see him, alone, fighting a brainwashed Claus with the fate of the world hanging in the balance. Claus launches attack after attack, but Lucas will not hit him back no matter what the player does. Instead Lucas can guard, he can heal himself, and he can believe in his brother. He can even cry a little.”

2017
The chilly summer breeze brushed the girl’s legs, causing her to wrap her cardigan tighten around herself. Readjusting her footing on the roof, she sat down, looking over at the large group of boys around the fire, she could smell it from here; the fire not the boys.
She looked along the roofs of the neighbouring houses and wondered if they ever went on their roofs. Could they see her now from where she could see them sitting around their picnic table in their backyard? She went through the possibilities in her head, what would happen if they could, what she would do if she knew for sure they couldn’t see. But her thoughts were soon interrupted by the shuffling of another person getting on the roof, she turned her head to meet the eyes of Trevor.
Trevor was her twin brother’s best friend and teammate, and though Jack never explicitly said they couldn’t date and would act overly grossed out when Trevor flirted with the girl, she felt like she was in some way betraying him for the thoughts she had, quite often, about Trevor. He had some sort of power over her, like he just took the logic clean out of her head.
“Hey- um Cole asked where you were, so I came looking for you.”
It disappointed her more than it should that it was Cole who alerted him of her absence and not the boy simply missing her, or noticed she didn’t add her usual commentary.
“Oh well, you found me.”
That was embarrassing. Who even says that if they’re not in a book or movie? But obviously Trevor didn’t find her response that awkward since he sat down next to her. But the awkwardness quickly found her again at the situation of sitting next to the boy she really liked when she couldn’t think of anything to say. Her brain was completely blank. But Trevor, as he often did, cut the awkwardness that was in the air.
“So why are you up here?” He said, his hands rested on his bent knees as he looked up at the stars in the sky that night.
“I don’t know, just.. Didn’t feel like it tonight.”
It was silent again. Was he offended? Felt like what she said was a hint for him to leave? Because it definitely didn’t want him to leave, she would never forgive herself if she messed this up now.
What she didn’t know was that a completely different, yet very similar, anxiety was eating away at the boy’s thoughts. Come on. Do it! This is a perfect chance! You’re alone, and the stars are out, and her face is lit up beautifully by the campfire that was down in the yard. It was romantic. And he would never forgive himself if he missed this up now.
“Well, I’m happy that you didn’t.” And he messed it up.
He was happy she didn’t feel up to hanging out with them tonight? Did he hate her company that much that the prospect of seeing her even in a group setting was a nightmare?
“That- that came out so wrong! That’s not what I meant at all, really! I meant that I’m glad I found you up here. Where we’re alone, and that means I can do this.”
Looking into her eyes he began leaning forward, he gave her a look as if to ask if it was okay, she nodded and let him join their lips. His soft lips against hers, if she wasn’t on a roof and at a risk of falling she thinks she would have completely melted into him. Keeping her feet planted firmly, the girl brought her hands to Trevor’s neck after he wrapped his arms around her waist.
Now she’s had her fair share of kisses before, but nothing quite like this. She felt light, like she could float up to the sky at any second. But more importantly she felt safe. She couldn’t imagine a time she wouldn’t feel completely safe and warm and happy with Trevor.
They broke away from the kiss after a moment, though they didn’t go far, their foreheads rested against the others. His hands rubbed up and down her back under the cardigan, his hand stalling and the strip of skin between her jean shorts and crop top met, but only for a moment before it went back to the up and down motions. Her hands were busy with their own movements around his neck, down to his collarbone, and grasping his shoulders.
Trevor finally broke apart the moment of silence, “This mean we can do that more often?”
If it wasn’t for his winning smile, she would have had a better chance at the stoic face she was trying to put on. But Trevor did have a winning smile, one that always caused her to also smile.
“I want to take you on a date.” She may have kissed her fair share of guys, but she’d never been on a real date. One where she got asked, and got picked, and dropped off with a goodnight kiss at her front door. Where she would then tell her mom every second of it over ice cream on the back deck. She wanted that. She wanted it with Trevor. She couldn’t imagine her first real date with only one but Trevor.
“Okay, I’m sure I can clear my schedule.” “So glad you’ll clear your busy, busy schedule for me. It’s an honour.” “It should be! I don’t do that for just anyone!”
They ended up staying up there the remainder of the night, well at least until she heard Jack calling their names. Sharing soft kisses between their laughter. Trevor was definitely not just anyone to her. And she doesn’t think he ever will be.

2019
Driving in her car, she was coming from where she was living currently in New York to Boston. She liked Boston. It had a charm about it, and she was there to visit her boyfriend, Trevor, though these days ‘boyfriend’ seemed like a loose term. They don’t talk like they used to, it’s really both of their faults, they’re both busy. Trevor is university in Boston, focusing on Hockey and working hard to get to the NHL next year, and Y/n is working harder than ever after getting casted as Regina George in Mean Girls the musical on broadway.
But these days it felt as though she was the only one putting in effort, it was always her calling him, and her driving to him, never the other way around. It’s felt like forever since she’s gotten a call from him. Which is why she was going to Boston now, wanting to clear the air and get them back to how they used to be. She was so naive.
She knocks on the door to Trevor’s dorm, and before she can knock for the second time the door swings open, her boyfriend standing with a smile on his face and his arms open wide for a hug. His arms wrapped around her waist, back where they belong, and her's come to link behind his head at the nape of the boy’s neck. Their faces in each other’s neck, both taking in the soft scent of each other, ones they’ve missed deeply.
“Hi.” “Hi.” They whispered, if their lips were anywhere except brushing each other’s ears there would be no way they could hear each other. Trevor swayed them back and forth slightly before he gave her body one more big squeeze and let go.
It was perfect, it was heaven. So perfect Y/n almost forgot that they even had problems in the first place. That’s how it always was with Trevor though, he wasn’t good at long distance, he never put in the extra work long distance needed.
It wasn’t until a couple hours later, after Y/n and Trevor had caught up and gotten settled on his bed together. Y/n’s head rested on his chest, she couldn’t only hear but feel his heart beat. It was domestic and safe. That’s why it hurt her own heart to have to bring up what she had to bring up.
“Trev?” “Yeah?” “I wanted to talk about something, but I don’t want you to get mad.” “I won’t. I promise.” He promised.
So there they were. Why did they always end up like this? Screaming at each other. Neither wanted to be doing this, so why did they always do it?
“I never said it was your fault!” “Really?! ‘Cause that’s basically what you said!” “Don’t put words in my mouth!”
Trevor was pacing back and forth in front of his dorm door, while Y/n sat on the edge of the bed they were previously cuddled in. Her head in her hands, yelling at Trevor while her voice projected to the carpeted floor.
“You said I wasn’t putting effort in our relationship?! In case you haven’t noticed, I have my own life! I’m busy! With hockey! With classes! And wasn’t it me that asked you to come here this weekend?!”
She picked her head up, now getting heated, “Oh yeah, when I called you! Then I drove up here! To see you!” “What does it matter who called who?! And who drove where?!” “Because it’s always me!” “It’s not always you.” “Have you seen my apartment, Trevor? Not just on facetime?!... No! You haven’t!”
After a couple more back and forth points, both defending themselves and blaming each other without listening back. Y/n was now sitting criss cross on Trevor’s bed while the boy sat in his desk chair. The pizza they had ordered was sitting next to her on the bed, half eaten.
“Trevor, I haven’t even met your new friends-” “They’re not important.” “But shouldn’t you want me too? God forbid you’re not the centre of attention.. And you don’t- You used to tell me you loved me five times a day, sometimes more.. You don’t do that anymore.” “I’m busier now.” “Busier than when you were on team USA?!”
That shut him up. His head dropped to his hands, elbows rested on his knees. Licking his lips he picked up his head again to look at the girl, the sadness was written all over his face, they both knew what was coming. After a moment the words they’ve both been thinking for the past hour were spoken into existence.
“Maybe we should break up…”
After a minute she dared to look at the boy, his head was back in his hands, looking at the floor, his hair flopped over his face to hide the tears she knew were there. A small puddle from the splashes was her give away, that and the fact that no matter what she will always know Trevor better than anyone.
And she knew that walking out was what Trevor needed, they could talk another time. But Trevor, and herself, needed time to think.
Getting into her car, she stared at the car that was parked in front of her. Staring at herself in the reflection was the only reason she knew she was crying, the glimmer of the tears fell down her cheeks, they tickled slightly when they reached her neck. Her head fell against the wheel, it was like she lacked the strength to hold it up any longer.
Rifling through her purse she finally felt the soft case on her phone, opening it to her contacts she started scrolling till she saw her mom’s contact with a red heart next to it. Just as she was about to press down on the phone, she stopped herself.
She couldn’t call her mom, one because it was far too late, though that’s never stopped her before and her mother always picked up. But the real reason, reason two was that her mom was dealing with far too much right now, dealing with only having one baby at home, Luke, and the weight of knowing Jack was having a terrible rookie year. She couldn’t give the woman more to add to her plate.
It’s always been that her problems were her mom’s problems, her scars are her mom’s scars. But right now, she would rather her mom think that she’s fine while she was hurting more than ever, than make this another thing to keep her up at night. She didn’t need that, and after what she’s done for the girl, she didn’t deserve that.
So she drove. Where? She had no clue. She just drove, thinking about what she could have done differently, what Trevor should have done differently. There were so many things he should have said. But those were things he’d never get to say to her.
She finally stopped at an empty parking lot. The girl was meant to be sleeping at Trevor’s dorm tonight, so she supposed she had to set up camp. Thank god she had a couple blankets and pillows in the back. Getting out she set up a place to sleep in the back of her car. Now left with her phone and her thoughts.
Opening the notes app she got to writing. Writing songs was always something she did when she had to work through her emotions. Yet all she seemed to be able to write was, ‘I hate Boston’. It wasn’t Boston’s fault, but with how she was feeling now she would always remember this place as where she got her heart broken.

2021
“Mom, seriously I’m fine with this.”
Of course she wasn’t fine with this, Trevor is now living full time an hour away from her. And obviously she knew this was going to happen eventually, so she should have known better, but that’s besides the point.
“You know I worry about you.” “I know, but I’m fine, mom.”
Ellen was calling her everyday to check in, she knew her daughter was hurting, she could hear it in the girl’s tone, no matter how many ‘I’m fine’s and ‘don’t worry about me’s she knew. Y/n naively thought she was fooling the woman, she didn’t want to worry her mom over the pain she was feeling from a guy she broke up with two years ago.
“Okay. I love you, honey.” “I love you too, mom”
In her mind, what Ellen didn’t know couldn’t hurt her.
She was so fucked up. Out with her friends in LA, going into bar after bar, she needed to clear her thoughts, which worked as she couldn’t hear them anymore. Which is probably why she ended up texting Trevor whom she hasn’t talked to since the summer a couple months ago. After she put her phone on the table she quickly picked it up again at the sound of her ringtone.
“Hey Trevor!” “Hi. Did you mean to send that text to me?” “I don’t remember what did it say?” “From what I can make out it says, ‘hey can I come over?’ though most of it was spelt extremely wrong and that’s coming from me.”
It was like old times, no awkwardness, that was the nice thing about Trevor he always knew how to get the awkward tension from the air.
“Yeah, that was the one I meant to send to you.” She also texted Luke, saying how much she missed him, she would hate it if she accidently sent that one to him.
“You wanna see me?” “Yeah!” “For what?”
They both knew what she wanted to come over for, but better be safe than sorry.
“You know.” After a moment of silence, he responds, “Okay” and sends over his new address.
Not wanting to track down her friends, she left, texting them in the uber that she left and was going to sleep, it technically wasn’t a lie she was going to sleep, eventually, but she couldn’t tell them she was going to see Trevor because they would try to stop her. She was drinking water in the uber wanting to sober up by the time she got to Trevor’s, and as her head was clearing of the cloudiness the alcohol brought her, she knew it was a bad idea. Of course it was a bad idea. Hooking up with an ex is like rule 101 of breakup etiquette. And that she probably shouldn’t, but… Fuck it, it’s fine.
-
The man buzzed her into his apartment building, she made her way up to the second floor, and all the way to his door she couldn’t help but think this was a bad idea, it could only end badly. But what if it didn’t? What if it ended good, really good?
She only knocked on the door once before it opened to show the smiling boy. God, when she looked at him, all the thoughts of this ending badly left. He looked good, he looked hot, she’s sure she’s seen better but in that moment, who cared?
She pushed him in the door, shutting it behind her and let Trevor push her up against it. She couldn’t hear her thoughts again, no longer drunk of alcohol but drunk of him. His hands travelled south, starting at her waist then over her hips and then stopping at the hem of her skirt, now travelling back up this time under her clothes.
“You’re not still drunk, right?” “No, I had like five waters on the way here.” “Good.”
His hands went to the backs of her thighs, lifting her off the floor, her legs went around his waist and her hands were now more secure on his shoulders to aid him in carrying her. They made their way onto the couch, Trevor laying the girl down on her back before climbing on top, leaving kisses up her body until he met her lips. He paused slightly, was kissing too personal? Yes.
Instead he decided to kiss her neck as his hands made their way to push her skirt up farther and hooking his hands around the waist of her panties, between soft pecks on her neck and chest, he asked, “You’re sure.” “God, Trevor, would I have gotten in an hour long uber ride if I wasn’t sure?” “Just have to make sure.” Thinking that was enough, the girl waited to feel his lips back on her and his hands back to their movements, and when she felt no such thing, she opened her eyes to look at the boy that was already looking back. He had a teasing smirk on his face and a look on his face as if to say, ‘go on’. She knew what he wanted so she did it, if she wasn’t this eager she would have teased him back but alas, “Yes.” “Good girl.”
After getting her panties off and out of his way, the man brought his hand back up to her cunt, he left feather light touches around her hole, teasingly inserting the very tip on his middle finger only to leave her empty again after a second. He brought his finger to his mouth, wetting it with his spit before going back to her cunt and rubbing a tight circles on her clit. The weight of his fingers caused the sensation to run from the tips of her toes to a feeling deep in her stomach.
“Ohh, Trev, please.”
His unoccupied hand nudged the hem of her shirt off as a sign to take it off, which she did, he then slipped his hand under her back to the clasp of her bra, slipping it off and throwing it onto the coffee table next to them. Now playing not-so-gently with her nipples, rubbing the hardened buds between his index finger and thumb while tugging slightly. Without concern he inserts two fingers, now using his thumb on her clit sporadically. Which caused the girl to moan his name, even louder when his mouth attached to her nipple.
“Trevo-ohh, more- please more!”
Slipping his fingers out of her and bringing them to his mouth, he tasted the tanginess of the girl, something he missed. After cleaning his fingers off her precum he took off his own shirt, finally levelling out the clothes-to-bare skin ratio that till he started unbuckling his pants wasn’t fair.
After getting his pants and boxers out of the way, Trevor rubs the head of his cock up and down the girl’s wet folds, gathering her precum to help him slip in easier. Without warning the man thrusted into his girl’s cunt, “Ooh, baby, still feel so fucking good.” If she wasn’t completely thoughtless from his dick being inside her she would have definitely overthought the man’s use of the pet name, she’ll overthink later.
Getting himself into a perfect pace for them both Trevor brought his lips down to her neck again, suckling and leaving lingering kisses to her sweet spot, finding it effortlessly even after all these years. It was like nothing had changed. Later on the ride home she would realise that in fact everything had changed.
“Trev, I’m gonna-ahh” “Me too. Let go, baby.”
He hit a new spot deep inside her when he brought her knee up to the girl’s shoulder, he could feel the girl squeeze around him. And after a few more thrusts he felt the gush of her cum dripping out of her and around him. He tried his best to last longer to elongate her orgasm, but from the feeling of her cumming he quickly slipped out and came on the girl’s stomach.
Resting on his knees, head falling back as he caught his breath, he got up walking to the bathroom, he came back clean and wearing his boxers and a warm wet towel. Coming back to her, he kneeled between her legs once again, whipping the warm wet hand towel through her folds to clean the girl up.
“Ahh” “Sorry, baby, I’ll try to be gentle.”
He continued to clean her off, slipping her panties back on her when he’s done. He also helped her slip on her shirt, both forgot about her bra, but truthfully she didn’t even want to think about putting it back on in her tired state.
“We should do this again.” He joked to break the awkwardness of hooking up with your ex.
“You know we don’t work, Trev.” “No I mean.. Just this.”
-
So they did. And at first it was good for a while. They agreed it was casual, that there would be no attachments. They met in some random parking lot because Trevor’s roommate was home, Trevor’s head between her legs. Licking between her wet folds to clean off her cum. When he had gotten all that he could he sat up and crawled over to his seat, whipping his mouth with his sleeve when he sat back.
“You taste so good, baby.” He said while he leaned over the console to place a kiss on her lips that left an anger bubbling in her chest, how could he say they weren’t together when he would kiss her like that, “Let’s get in the back.”
They both got out of the car, Trevor faster than the girl who was still recovering from her orgasm. He opened the truck, getting in and helping the girl get in after him. Cuddled together like old times, she could almost pretend that there was love. Neither talked, that’s how she liked it at the moment then she could pretend it truly was like old times and they were in love again, and that they would talk about moving in together next season. But they couldn’t. Because they were just casual.
She really did like the idea of being casual and having no attachments at first, but it’s Trevor. She could never be just casual with Trevor. How could they be casual when her favourite clothes lived at his apartment? How could they be casual when Ava called her every time she needed advice from an ‘older sister’? How could they be casual when his mom invited to stay with her in Long Beach while she was there to see Trevor? How was that casual?
Trevor was good to her. He really was. Because in his man brain they were casual. But she couldn’t lie to him anymore. She hadn’t written a song in forever, too afraid of what would spue out of her mind when she picks up her guitar.
“Is this still just casual for you?”
His head turned towards her, like it was slow motion in a movie. He looked at her like he was hurt. Why was he hurt?
“Y/n, we shouldn’t talk about this now-” “If not now then when?!” “Y/n-” “No, really, Trevor. When? When?!”
He brought his knees up to his chest, his head resting in his hands between them. She could see the deep breaths he was taking by the rise and fall of his back, “We said no attachments, baby.”
“It’s us, Trevor! Did you seriously think we wouldn’t have attachments?! I can’t keep doing this-” “What?” “That fact that tomorrow I could wake up and you could decide we’re done! That scares me! The fact that I have no idea if you'll just let me go at any moment!” “You know I wouldn’t do that.” “Do I?! Because, honestly, Trevor, it feels like you’ve never loved me. That you just want sex. And I can’t do that anymore, I want more! And if you really can’t give me that.. Then I have to let you go.”
She couldn’t do it anymore. Acting like this was what she wanted. She didn’t want to pretend he loved her anymore. She honestly doesn’t even know why the silence from him still shocked her. But fuck did it anger her more.
“Talk, Trevor! Talk!” Shaking his head as he starts, “You knew I didn’t want a relationship when this started! So don’t go blaming me for this! I’m just getting my career started, and I can’t have a girl to distract me right now.” “...That’s what I am to you? Just a girl?” “Y/n, c’mon, you know I didn’t-” “No! Don’t back track now! I’m just some girl to you! I’m just some girl you bang on your couch sometimes!”
Getting out of this, she walks to her car in the next space over, reaching for the handle she hears, “I just don’t know you anymore.” The scoff that came from her lips was louder than intended, but at this point she didn’t care, “Bye, Trevor.”
She left that parking lot as fast as possible, blew through a red light to get onto the 405. She couldn’t help but think ‘what if she got in a car crash tonight’ nothing good came from thinking of stuff like that but she often did, and if she did crash tonight, she thinks that she would regret Trevor. It hurts her to think that after all they’ve been through, she regrets him and all the time she spent thinking of him. When he clearly didn’t think of her as much.
She thought about all the things he put in front of her time and time again; hockey, his team, sex, they all seemed to be more important to him. As time went on between them, she could feel her importance to him slip away. From that first night in his new apartment to now, she had fallen far down his list of priorities.
The houses along the road caught her eye, a couple was sitting out on their deck. It reminded her of the night her and Trevor first got together on the roof of the girl’s house, just outside her bedroom window. That felt lifetimes away, she almost forgot her and Trevor ever felt that strongly about each other at the same time. It felt like anything would remind her of Trevor. He was very well acquainted with the back of her head, he’s basically lived there since they were sixteen.
But she should hate him. He didn’t even try to fight for them, both times! She felt stupid, how could she still love a man who clearly didn’t feel love back, lust maybe, but not love. It wasn’t logical, nothing really was  with her in regards to Trevor. It was as if he took the logical half of her brain, a power he's had over the girl since a young age. Around him she could only lead with her heart, never her head. And that was the half she desperately needed around him. The half that did hate him, and didn’t want to make excuses and forgive him, because that’s all she wanted to do at that moment.
So she did the only thing that always helped her. She called her mom.
The line only rang a couple times before Ellen picked up, and since she had no idea of the distress her daughter was in she thought this was just like any other of their phone calls, “Hi, honey, how are you?”
As soon as the words passed through the line, the tears in the young girl’s eyes started falling harder, “It’s over.”
Ellen and Y/n always had a special relationship, growing up Y/n didn’t have many friends that were girl’s, the fact that they moved around a lot for the boy’s hockey careers, and she has always had a hard time making friends. She mostly hung around with her brother’s and their friends, who soon became her friends. One good thing that came from that though is the strong relationship she has with her mother.
“Oh, baby, I’m sorry. Do you want to tell me what happened?” On the other line Ellen made her way outside, out of ear shot of anyone else in the house. “I’m alone, hun, get it all off your chest.”
“He never puts me first. I don’t know why I ever thought he could, why I ever thought he could be serious about us. And after all these years, he can’t say he loves me.”
“Maybe, and I know this may not be what you want to hear, but I think it’s what you need to hear. Maybe this is for the best. If a boy can’t put you first, he doesn’t deserve you.”
She thought about that all night, till she fell asleep, but when she woke she thought about it more. Those words repeated in her head for weeks. She kept telling herself that more she gave him, more love, more commitment, he just wanted her less. They didn’t want the same things. Maybe they never would.
And one morning she woke up, and she felt better. The girl still called Ellen everyday. And everyday her mother told her things would get better, and at first she thought this was just a comforting lie a mom has to tell her daughter. But today? Today was the day things started feeling better. It was a weight of her chest.
That day she picked up her guitar. She got it all out, something music always did for her. And it felt nice. So nice.

2023 (summer)
This was the first time Trevor would be at the lake house at the same time as her since the summer of 2021. She had expertly avoided him, spending summers with her friends until she got word from Quinn of Trevor’s schedule. But this year things were different, her best friend is on a trip with her boyfriend in Europe, and even asking very nicely the couple said ‘no’.
And don’t get her wrong, she looked for every other option, but none were there. And she couldn’t just stay home for the summer, she knew her brother’s wouldn’t say anything but it would upset them that she doesn’t come see them during their only time off.
So she was going to see Trevor after years. Well not like it’s been years, they saw each other from time to time at hockey events and whatnot, but it’s been a couple years since they’ve been in the same place for an extended amount of time.
Jack, Luke, and Quinn were outside now, he supposed this would be a good time since they were all there and alone. Most of the other guys were on the other side of the yard playing a casual game of football, but knowing the group it wasn’t casual. He sat down between Jack and Quinn, Luke across from him, he took a quick sip of beer not quite knowing what to say.
“Yes?” Quinn was the one who decided to bite. “Y/n’s coming tomorrow?” “Yeah.” The oldest brother said, harshly, he didn’t know exactly what happened. Y/n would usually go to her friends or their mom about things like that. But that doesn’t mean he hadn’t heard, and seen, his fair share of the lasting effects the break up had on the girl.
Realising where this was going Luke got up, his hands on his knees and he mumbled something only Jack, who was closest to the boy heard, “I’m not dealing with this shit.”
“What about it, Z?” Jack just wanted to get this over with, he knew it was coming, he knew his best friend would ask about the girl before she arrived, but he wished it happened when Quinn wasn’t around, it would save him a headache.
He tried to play it cool, acting like he was just stating a fact to start small talk with no ulterior motives, but they all knew that was a lie. “I just- I was wondering how she is. What she’s up to.” Jack half-expected Quinn to blow his head off at the words, he was always the most protective over their sister. Personally, Jack didn’t care about that, maybe it was because they were the same age, but if he could take care of himself he knew Y/n could. But instead the eldest calmly got up, patted Jack on the back and left without a word.
“Is she good?” “Yeah. She’s good.” “Good.”
Jack didn’t know if he was supposed to say what he was about, but it was already coming out of his mouth when he thought of the consequences, “She’s releasing an album actually.” The boy’s head shot to the side, to look at Jack fully, he only had one question he wanted to ask, Jack didn’t even let the boy get a word in, “Yeah.”
-
The air in Michigan felt different than in LA, and not just because of the air pollution, Michigan felt like summer. She could feel the change from their usual weather of late winter that slowly seeped to spring then into summer.
Ellen and Jim had picked her up from the airport, which was good because she didn’t have to get an uber but also because she could actually catch up with them without her brother’s interrupting.
“Trevor’s here y’know.” “I know, dad.” “Is that okay?” “I’m happy without him. And I want him to be happy. And I want us to be able to be friendly.” It meant a lot when her father checked in on her, not that he didn’t do it a lot, he did. But right now, she needs it.
The three pulled into the driveway of the lake house, and as soon as they did the girl got out of the car and ran through the house to find everyone. After checking the living room, kitchen, and the den she found the large group of boys outside.
She tackled Luke into a hug, he was closest to her, “Hey, Lukey!” Luke mumbled back since her hug was so tight that his face was shoved into her shoulder, “Hi, Y/n.”
After all the hello’s with her brothers, all very similar to the one she had with Luke, she said hello to her and Jack's friends, Quinn’s friends she’s known as long as she can remember, and Luke’s new College friends, she hadn’t met them yet since she hasn’t been at the lake house. Then of course, after she met someone named Dylan, Trevor caught her line of vision.
And all the work, all the crying, and screaming, and fighting with herself that she made the right decision, all the progress she made, gone. She felt the same as she had the night in the parking lot, and the time in his college dorm. Helpless, helplessly in love with him. Just as she’s always been.
“Hey.” “Hi.”
Both took a deep breath, and it was as if their eyes were glued to each other, they never left. Jack spoke, wanting to give the (ex) couple some privacy, though that didn’t exactly go to plan, “Okay. Um- food in the kitchen.” “Yeah, that sounds good.” The girl said, quickly pulling her sunburn gaze from the boy to make her way back into the house.
“Some history there?” Dylan asked, as he and Luke walked up the steps up to the house.
Y/n successfully avoided Trevor all day, which wasn’t her original plan but after him tearing down all her hard work of getting over him with just a little eye contact and one word, she was scared of what a conversation would do.
So after a long day of not talking about and trying not to think about him, she sat outside her window to think about him. The roof was her favourite place at the lake house, a place she could think.
It was a place that reminded her of Trevor.
How, even after everything, did she love him? After he repeatedly didn’t put her first, didn’t think of how his actions affect her, didn’t want to love her. How did she love him?
She wished they could just strip their history bare and start over. Now that they’re older, they both have careers of their own, maybe it could work this time?
The sound of the bedroom window being pushed further open and shuffling cuts the girl from her thoughts, looking over she sees the very boy that has occupied her thoughts since they were fifteen.
“Hi.” “Hi.”
The boy sat next to her, he left what he thought was an appropriate amount of space between them. Sitting next to her was more nerve racking than he thought, swiping his clammy hands on his knees, Trevor tries to break that awkward tension.
“I heard you’re writing an album.” “I am.” “I’m proud of you. I know that’s what you’ve always wanted.”
Turning her head from where her eyes were previously staring down the horizon in an act to distract her from making eye contact, she looked at him. Took in how he wasn’t looking at her, maybe he was as nervous as her, and his lips that were between his teeth as an anxious tick, his eyes that never stayed in one place for long, he really was beautiful. She’s always thought that.
“Thank you, Trev.”
After a couple too many moments of silence she decides to ask what she’s been waiting to ask, “Where’d you hear that?” “Oh, Jack mentioned it.”
She wishes it was from him asking her brother about her, but realistically Jack probably said something about it to the group and Trevor just remembered. But it didn’t take away from the fact that he remembered that being a singer was always her final goal, and the fact that he was proud of her. He may not know it but that meant the whole world to her.
“I- Y/n… I’m sorry.” Y/n opened her mouth to say she too was sorry, but was  cut off by the boy, “No please, I need to talk.” Closing her mouth, she nods a ‘yes’ and lets him continue, “I never should have treated you the way I did, and I’m not just talking about Cali, I’m talking about Boston too. I- You mean so much to me, and I never told you that. And I should have. I should have told you every single day how much I love you and how much you mean to me, no matter if we were in the same bed or across the country, I should’ve told you that everyday.. But I do regret it everyday that I didn’t. That I just let the best, most talented, and smart, and funny, and gorgeous girl in the world go. I was a fucking idiot. I regret that every fucking day.” Trevor can’t help it as he lets small tears fall from his eyes and down his cheek.
“I really did love you. I guess I just- I was really bad at communication, and I was under a lot of pressure with hockey, and that’s no excuse I know! I just what to explain my fucked thought process. I was under pressure and I felt like I couldn’t manage a relationship, but I also felt like I couldn't not have you in my life. And I want you to know, that was never casual. It’s us! Nothing with us is casual.
“And when you broke things off, I’d never and don’t think it’s possible to feel worse than how I did then. I was so fucked that coach sent me to therapy! Which is why I can say all this stuff now.. I just need you to know that, I’ve changed. And even though I don’t deserve it, if you gave me a second chance.. I wouldn’t fuck it up this time.”
Maybe she was fucked, but she believed him. But could she give him a second chance? Or rather, a third chance. After everything he’s done? Could people change? Maybe they could. She never would have pegged Trevor for the therapy type, but he went. She’s gone to therapy, has for years, and it’s helped her. Made her into a better version of herself, maybe it did to Trevor too. But could she take that chance? Risk getting hurt by him again?
Of course she could. It’s Trevor.
“I want to give you another chance. But it’s gonna take a lot more.” “Like what? I’ll do anything.” “If we can be friends this summer, and go to couples therapy when we get to California, and we both try and work hard to make this work. I would.” “Done… I don’t know if  this is in the clear for ‘friends’, but I want you to know that I love you.” “I love you too.”
Taylor Swift once said that they’re ‘relationships that are never really done’ that was them. No matter how many years it took, no matter how many chances, and wrong timings they had, their narrative will never truly be over.

"You've got a mustache."
Hey guys! Sorry, my art style is like the least consistent thing on this planet... I just like trying new things out :)
Anyways, continuing on our Rex parenting journey we have Chapter 4 - Pancakes and Apologies.
Prologue: 00 Previous chapter: 03 Next chapter: 05
Summary: Rex gets some news on Echo, pancakes are made, tantrums are thrown.
CW: Implied/referenced child abuse, talk about injuries from landmines (nothing too in depth)
Chapter 4 – Pancakes and Apologies
Rex sunk down into his couch with a sigh, leaning his head against the armrest. Fives had been tucked in and the hallway light was left on. One kid taken care of, one to go.
Rex pulled out his phone and opened a text from Cody: I have some more info. Call me when you’re ready.
The phone only rang once before it was picked up.
“Cody, is he okay?” Rex tried to keep his voice down so he would not wake the boy sleeping in the next room.
“He’s…” Cody trailed off and Rex could feel his heart pounding in his chest.
“What? He’s what?” Don’t say dead. Please, don’t say dead.
“He just got out of surgery. They had to amputate both legs and an arm,” Cody was trying to keep if voice calm and leveled, but the words came out a little choked. “I’m so sorry.”
Rex stared across the living room and into the kitchen, he’d know the boy’s injuries would be bad if he had landed himself in the ICU, but the loss of three limbs? That was too much.
Cody continued, “Echo’s okay for now. He hasn’t woken up yet, so there could still be some complications, but they are optimistic about how the surgery went.”
“Both legs and an arm?” Rex asked, still processing his brother’s statement.
“Yes,” Rex heard Cody take a deep breath on the other side of the line, “He stepped on a landmine.”
“Wh- How?”
“I don’t know. No one told the hospital how it happened either.”
Rex was silent, but his mind screamed.
Screamed in anger.
In sadness.
In pain.
In guilt.
It was his fault. His.
“Rex? You still there?” Cody’s voice cut through the phone.
“Yeah,” Rex said a little absently. “Yeah, I’m still here.”
“Alright,” Cody said, tone laced with worry. “You should get some rest. I’ll text you any developments, but don’t stay up for them.”
“Thank you.”
“Are you going to be able to sleep tonight?”
“I- I’m not sure.”
“Try, okay?”
“I will.”
“I love you, Rex’ika.”
“Love you too, Codes,” Rex dropped the phone from his ear as he disconnected the call.
He rolled onto his side and curled up on the couch, pulling his knees up to his chest and letting the world melt around him as tears spilled down his cheeks.
Rex woke, panicked from a dream he couldn’t remember and drenched in a cold sweat. From what he could tell it was early morning, the living room was washed in a dim warm light. He was not sure when he had fallen asleep, but he could not have gotten more than four hours.
He reached for his phone on the coffee table and found it, bringing the screen close to his bleary eyes. He had some texts from Cody from around 3 am:
Just found out Kix is Echo’s doctor!
He came into the waiting room to tell me that Echo seems to be responding well to the surgeries.
He’s sleeping now, but he woke up for a bit while I was in there and asked for Fives.
Kix said he thinks you guys should be able to visit today.
Rex felt a surge of relief, Echo was going to be okay. He was going to be alright. Not only that, but Rex had known Kix since he’d been in a group home with him and he knew the boy was in capable hands.
Rex swung his legs over the edge of the bed, sitting up to type out a reply, thanking his brother profusely.
“M-mister police officer, sir?”
A small voice cut through Rex’s thoughts, and he jerked his head up. Fives stood stiffly on the other side of the coffee table. Rex was taken aback, when had the boy slipped into the room? At least the kid looked like he had slept well, “Yes? And Rex is fine.”
“Would you like me to make you breakfast?”
Rex was initially going to deny the request and insist that he make breakfast for Fives instead, but realized he could not assume Fives was only offering because it was something required of him previously. Perhaps the boy really enjoyed cooking. Rex wouldn’t know so instead he put down his phone and smiled, “Why don’t we make ourselves some breakfast together?”
Fives’s eyes widened a bit before he nodded consent.
Rex stood and stretched, “What should we have? I’ve got eggs, pancakes, oatmeal, cereal, or bread for toast.”
Fives seemed to debate something before looking up at Rex, “What are pancakes?”
“Pancakes?” Rex parroted, a little shocked.
Fives blushed and turned away, muttering a quiet apology.
“No, it’s okay, it’s good to ask questions,” Rex tried to amend quickly. He hurried over to his pantry and grabbed his box of pancake mix, showing the box to the boy, “This is what they look like. They’re really good and you get to put maple syrup on them.”
Fives whipped his head around to Rex at the mention of maple syrup, an excited grin plastered onto his face, “Maple syrup is from Canada.”
“Uh, yeah?” Rex said taken aback by the random fact.
Fives turned back to the pancake box, “Echo had a book about flags. Canada’s is a maple leaf because of all the maple trees there and maple syrup comes from the maple trees.”
“Do you and Echo like to read a lot?” Rex asked.
“Echo does,” Fives said, shoulder’s tensing. “He tried to teach me, but I’m no good.”
Rex didn’t like the boy’s defeated tone, “You know, I didn’t learn how to read until I was a little older than you.”
“Really?” Fives asked. “Because Echo learned when we were little.”
Rex wondered what “little” meant to the boy because in his eyes the twins were still very much just little boys. “Different people learn different things at different times, it’s not a contest.” Rex shrugged, taking the pancake mix from Fives, “Do pancakes sound yummy? They’re one of my favorites.”
Fives nodded, then shrugged, “But I don’t know how to make them.”
“That’s okay,” Rex said grinning. “I can teach you.”
Fives had been a surprisingly competent chef for a seven-year-old boy. He knew how to measure ingredients and pour things without spilling, and, once Rex had helped him up onto the counter, had proved that he could work a stovetop. Rex made sure the boy was aware he was not to be climbing on things or using the stove without permission first.
Rex watched as Fives took his first bite of pancake. The boy chewed slowly and then grinned up at Rex.
“Good?” Rex asked, taking his first bite as well.
Fives nodded enthusiastically and began shoving the rest of the plate into his mouth as fast as he could. He was finished before Rex had swallowed his third bite.
Rex pushed the glass of milk he’d poured the boy closer to him, “milk first, and then you can have more.”
Fives eyed the glass suspiciously before carefully taking it in both hands and downing it, seemingly without stopping for breath. When he put the glass down, he had a little milk mustache. Rex couldn’t stop himself from laughing.
“What?” Fives asked, looking down at his plate, searching for whatever was so funny.
“You-” Rex broke out into another chuckle, “You’ve got a mustache.”
“No, I don’t,” Fives said, folding his arms.
“Yes, you do. Go look in the mirror.”
Fives gave Rex a confused look before heading off to the bathroom.
Rex shook his head and finished up his breakfast, smiling to himself.
Fives emerged from the bathroom a minute later with a clean, smiling face.
“It was from the milk,” the boy explained, as if Rex didn’t already know.
Rex nodded as Fives joined him in the kitchen, “Do you want some more pancakes?”
Fives shook his head as he sat back down in his chair, then he looked up a Rex, “Could we bring them for Echo?”
Rex shook his head, giving himself a few seconds to figure out the best way to explain to Fives, “Right now Echo’s in the ICU. Do you know what the ICU is?”
“Like the hospital?”
“Yeah, it’s a part of the hospital where they put the people who need a little extra help to get better. It stands for intensive care unit.”
“Is he going to die?” Fives had clearly picked up on the fact that someone already in the hospital needing extra help was bad. His voice was so small.
“We think he got through the worst part. He woke up last night and asked for you, which is a really good sign, but we can’t bring him anything from outside the hospital because he had to have some really big surgeries and we don’t want him to get infected.”
“Oh,” Fives’s eyes darted back and forth before they made their way back to Rex’s. “Can- can we still-? Are we allowed to see him?”
Rex nodded, “We can head on over after we get dressed and brush our teeth.”
Fives jumped up out of his chair in excitement and made a beeline for Rex’s bedroom. Rex marveled in the boy’s ability to switch his emotions so quickly, and his inability to hide any of them.
As Fives got dressed, Rex washed all the dishes as quickly as he could so he wouldn’t have to keep the boy waiting for long. Not surprisingly, Fives finished getting ready before Rex put the last dish on the drying rack. The boy bounded into the kitchen, bouncing on his toes and grinning.
Rex couldn’t help but match his grin, “Alright, get your shoes and coat on while I get dressed.”
Fives nodded and hopped over to the entry way where his tiny set of shoes sat next to Rex’s boots.
Rex threw on his clothes and swished some mouthwash around in his mouth (brushing took too long) before joining Fives in the entry way. The boy was practically exploding with energy and Rex had to tell him multiple times that his shoes were on the wrong feet before he stopped jumping up and down and sat so Rex could fix them.
As soon as they got onto the road Fives asked how long it would take to get to Echo, and not wanting the entire 45 minute car ride to consist of 45 “are we there yet?”s, Rex made Fives his navigator. He knew the way to Kamino General well enough that he would tell Fives to remind him to turn right when they got to the next intersection or get off the highway when he saw a green sign with the number 79 on it. It kept the boy surprisingly occupied as he seemed to take his role very seriously.
As they neared the hospital and sat waiting in city traffic, Rex glanced at Fives in the mirror, “Fives, there’s something I need to tell you about Echo before we see him.”
Fives twisted forward to look at Rex from his position analyzing the city outside his window.
“He got really hurt and he- his-” Rex started to explain, struggling to find the right words.
“His legs were gone,” Fives interrupted, eyes wide.
Rex stared at the boy in his mirror, “You saw?”
Fives nodded, “Yes.”
“I’m sorry,” Rex didn’t know what else to say.
Fives shrugged, “Green light.”
“Huh?” Rex gaped before he realized what Fives was referring to as the car behind him honked, “Shi-oot!”
Rex slammed on the gas and turned into the hospital’s visitor parking lot, “Sorry about that.”
“S’okay,” Fives mumbled. Then his head shot up with excitement, “Are we here?”
“Yep,” Rex said, pulling into a spot.
Before Rex came to a complete stop, Fives unbuckled his seatbelt and opened the car door, ready to leap out. Rex stomped on the breaks and lunged back to grab the boy’s wrist, lest he fall out of the car, “Fives!”
The boy yelped as Rex dragged him back away from the door.
“No!” Rex yanked the boy towards his face, “No. You do not get out of the car until it’s stopped moving! Do you understand?”
“I’m s-sorry,” Fives stared at Rex, face going pale.
“Do you understand?”
Fives tried to yank his arm away, but Rex had him in an iron grip.
“Do. You. Understand?”
Fives’s tiny fist came up from where it was clenched at his side and struck Rex on the cheek. Rex was so surprised he almost let go of the boy as Fives began screaming “sorry” repeatedly, flailed his captive wrist around, trying to bash Rex’s hand down into the console, and used his free hand to hit Rex’s arm with as much force as he was capable of.
Rex caught Fives’s other arm to prevent any further damage to either of them and held him still while he struggled. Even though Fives’s eyes were screwed shut, Rex tried to soften his expression from the angry one he was sure it held a few moments earlier to one as neutral as possible.
Eventually Fives’s struggles grew weaker, and his apologies died down to a faint whisper. Rex realized the boy was crying, tears leaking out the corners of his shut lids.
“Fives?” Rex said softly, loosening his grip on the boy so if he wanted to remove his arms he could.
Fives opened his eyes and tears gushed down his cheeks, “’m ssssorry.”
“It’s okay. I’m not mad, see?” Rex held up his hands.
Fives stared up at Rex with big watery eyes before slowly reaching out one of his own hands and placing it against Rex’s opposing palm.
Rex curled down his fingers so his hand enveloped Fives’s, “Are you okay?”
In response Fives pulled his and Rex’s hand towards his chest.
“Hug?” Rex asked, remembering last night.
“Please?”
“Alright, come here,” Rex said, hoisting the boy up over the console and into his lap.
Fives held Rex’s hand to his chest as Rex held him to his and they sat just breathing in silence together until Fives shifted to look up at Rex, “Are- are you very mad at me?”
Rex squeezed Fives a little tighter and smiled sadly, “I’m not very mad at you.”
They sat together for a few more moments and this time it was Rex who broke the silence, “Can I explain why I got upset?”
Rex felt Fives nod against his chest.
“Cars can be very dangerous if we aren’t careful in them or around them,” He felt Fives nod in understanding and continued, “One of the rules when you’re in the car is that you always keep your seatbelt on and you never open the door unless we are parked in a driveway or in a parking lot, does that make sense?”
Again, Rex felt Fives nod against him.
He continued, “When you opened the door, I was scared that you might get hurt, so I got upset. But I was more upset that you might get hurt than I was upset at you.” Rex rubbed Fives’s arm, “I’m sorry for yelling at you and for grabbing you.”
“I’m sorry, too. For- for breaking the rules.”
“It’s alright. You were excited, I get it. But next time we don’t jump out of moving cars.”
Fives nodded, sniffling.
Rex grabbed a tissue and handed it to the boy, “Ready to go see Echo?”
Fives smiled, blowing into the tissue, “Ready.”
