Fever Kisses
(A/N); First, I’d like to apologize to everyone for falling off the face of the earth this last YEAR. I’ve been diagnosed as Immunocompromised, so it’s been a fun ride catching every single cold known to man :’) Currently getting over a 3-week long cold, and I’m Miserable, so I need a healthy dose of our favorite dwarven brothers. — This is also my 1st Fic/Drabble ever, so here goes nothing!
Summary: A wet rainy night proves no challenge for dwarves or hobbits. The same, however, cannot be said for humans.
Pairings; Kili x Reader, Fili x Reader
Warnings; Fevers/Sickness, Very soft and fluffy fluff, with a bit of angst and drama.
Translations:
Ibrizinlêkh: Sunshine
Bunnel: Treasure of All Treasures
—————————————————
The rain poured harder than ever before, showing no mercy to the trees, the bees, and certainly no dwarves.
The dark and stormy clouds blanketed the skies, casting shadows amongst the rolling hills. Soaked to the bone, through cloaks and tunics, still the company of Thorin Oakenshield trudged on.
Dwarrow are hardy folk; cold and damp environments bothering them none. Humans on the other hand, however, do not share the same trait.
(Y/N) found herself at the back of the line, trudging her way through ankle-deep mud, her arms wrapped around herself in hopes of holding onto whatever warmth was left. Kili stayed close, whereas Fili opted to lead the pack side-by-side with Thorin.
Quiet conversation could be heard from certain members of the company, including the one beside you. Kili regaled you with his adventures with the Blue Mountains and how Fili had scored a 5-point Buck with a single throw of a dagger, enhancing his story with wild gesturing hand movements.
“— And man, you should have seen Amad’s face when we got back with the buck! I daresay she had never looked more proud!” Kili boasted properly. “…(Y/N)?”
You looked up, meeting his soft honey eyes, not realizing you had stopped in movement. “(Y/N), are you alright? Are you tired?” Kili took a step towards you, concern etching its way onto his face. You stared at him, a strange, skin-crawling feeling rolling up your spine, a harsh shiver wracking your frame.
Kili closed the short distance between you, his hand gently landing on your arm before repeating his question. Only, this time, as the sound hit your ears, it sounded as though he were not speaking Common Speech at all. Your face scrunched in confusion, before it hit you. You felt a gasp rip through you as you quickly grabbed hold of Kili’s tunic, your legs feeling as though they were to give out. Your vision swirled as though you were one with a tornado, nausea quickly settling in.
Beyond the ringing of your ears, you could hear Kili yelling something, before the shadows of the others came into your peripherals. You tried to breathe, feeling the weight of a thousand bricks upon your chest — you felt as though you were suffocating; your vision began to darken with infectious black spots. Increasing your hold on Kili’s tunic as one last whimper escaped, you felt yourself fall.
—————————————————
“…(Y/N?)” Kili called back to you, having paused in his story at your stillness. He closed the distance between you two, lying his hand on your arm. He called to you once more, only to be met with confusion. He found himself mirroring your expression, if but only for a moment, before that expression quickly turned to terror as your body seized.
One arm shot out to hold up your weakening frame, the other gripping your arm tightly. “Uncle!” Kili shouted, his panicked tone ringing through the air. One look back from both Fili and Thorin had them sprinting to the back of the line.
“What happened to her?” Fili inquired while quickly reaching out with the goal of steadying you. His fear quickly grew as your weak frame shuddered one last time, before alast going limp. Barely catching you in time, he quickly hauled you upwards into his arms, your head lolling heavily against his chest.
Thorin laid his hand upon your too-warm forehead, quietly cursing in Khuzdul. “We need to find shelter. Now!” Thorin barked at the others, watching as they quickly scrambled towards the rocky cliff side.
—————————————————
Safely inside the dry remains of the cavern, a fire was hastily made while Fili and Kili worked to lay out a bedroll for you. Oin frantically dug through his pack, looking for his medicines and ailments as Thorin dug through his own looking for anything dry.
“We need to get her into dry clothes. This will do for now.” Thorin held out an oversized, but dry Tunic.
Fili and Kili shared a look, waiting for their Uncles’ instructions. Surely he didn’t expect them to undress her? Sensing his nephews hesitance, Thorin grumbled under his breath. “All of you. Turn away, now!” Thorin barked once more, before shedding your jacket. Together with his nephews, they worked to undress you, much to said nephews embarrassment.
Moments later, you lay peacefully upon a bedroll, clothed by nothing more than Thorin’s tunic, and a blanket modestly wrapped around your lower half.
Oin knelt beside you, lifting your head gently as he pressed a small glass vial to your lips. “Come on lass, swallow it down.” Oin quietly prayed, pouring the liquid onto your tongue, before sighing with relief at the sight of your body naturally swallowing the rather horrible tasting liquid.
“And now we wait.”
—————————————————
You were floating through the air — clouds more specifically. You were sure of it. You breathed in deeply through your nose, smelling the distinct smell of… a campfire? Surely not in the clouds…
You forced your heavily eyelids to open, finding yourself looking up at a pair of dwarves, whom were sitting side-by-side, heads leaning against one another as they both slept peacefully.
You attempted to recall how you got in said dwarves’ lap, but your brain felt far too mushy and not up to the task. You brought your hand up to Fili’s arm, with the intention of pulling yourself up. However upon doing so, you found yourself with not even enough strength to close your fist around said arm. Grumbling slightly, you tried again.
“Would you like some help?” A tired voice whispered beside you, causing you to jump. You looked up to see ice blue eyes peering back at you, a soft smile creeping their way into them.
At your silence, Fili brought his hand to your forehead once more, clicking his tongue at his findings. “You still have a fever. You need to rest more.” Fili pawed at your blanket, bringing it farther up your body, before tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear.
“Here, Fee. Get her to drink some water.” Kili, awakened at the commotion, handed Fili an opened canteen. Slowly, Fili helped you sit up with a hand at your back, the other bringing the canteen to your lips. You sighed at the feeling of the cold liquid sliding down your throat; Refreshing. A few sips and Fili lowered it, much to your dismay. “Not too much at once, Ibrizinlêkh.” He chuckled, handing it back to Kili.
Swiping your tongue over your now moist lips, you sighed contentedly and closed your eyes, before shimmying back down to rest your head upon Fili’s chest once more.
Eventually, quiet conversation broke out between the two brothers, offering you distraction while you rested your heavily eyelids. Before long though, you found yourself peering back up at them, breaking said conversation as they both returned your gaze, a sight of content and fondness donning their faces.
Without thinking, you found yourself gripping Fili’s outer coat, raising yourself up to his chin. Using your other hand, you placed it on the back of his neck, gently guiding his nose to rest alongside your own. Instinctively Fili closed his eyes upon the close proximity; you gently lifted your head slightly, to rub your nose along his. Up, down. Up, down. And a third time, before resting your forehead against his. “Thank you…” You whispered quietly, before pulling back to reveal a stunned look upon his face. Had your brain not been mush, you surely would have laughed.
Looking to his right, you found Kili staring, dumbfounded at your stunt. Chuckling, you reached for his cheek. Despite his confusion, Kili leaned forward until his nose lay along side yours. Up, down. Up, down. A third time. Slowly, intimately.
Pulling back, you found yourself wearing a content smile, theirs quickly mirroring your own. “Goodnight” you offered softly, before settling back down into Fili’s arms.
“Goodnight… Ibrizinlêkh.”
“Goodnight, Bunnel.”
—————————————————
As the sun climbed over the horizon, you stretched comfortably, before opening your eyes. Once again, you found yourself peering upwards at a pair of blue eyes, alongside a pair of honey-brown.
“Good morning you two!” You yawned.
“Good morning (Y/N)” Kili returned,
“Good morning.” Fili whispered softly.
The company worked to pack up camp after each companion ensuring your health, before Thorin set them off once more.
Beginning your steps, you were stopped by a couple of hands — one upon your wrist, and the other on your arm. “(Y/N), can we ask you something?” Turning to meet both Fili and Kili’s eyes, yours in question. “Last night… you had… uhm.” Kili started, looking to his brother for assistance.
Fili touched his own nose, before continuing: “you had rubbed your nose with ours… what does that mean?”
You quickly found yourself stifling a laugh behind your hand, furthering their confused expressions. “Did I offer you both one? I’m sorry! My fever must have did away with my manners… it’s called an Eskimo Kiss. Thank you for taking care of me yesterday, both of you.” You grabbed each of their hands, offering a quick squeeze before turning back and following the others.
Fili and Kili found themselves standing there, baffled, before your words soaked in. The next sight, was picture worthy… Their faces quickly resembled that of a strawberry.
“An Eskimo Kiss?!” They squealed, quickly chasing after you.
—————————————————
I wrote this on the fly, on my phone at 3AM, as I personally have my own fever, so if this is horrendous to read, I blame my fever.
I do not have a Beta, nor did I honestly proof this before posting… but regardless, I hope y’all enjoy! This wasn’t supposed to be this long, but, that’s how fics/drabbles are supposed to go, right?
Goodnight and to the doctors I go!

Pairing: Kíli / Gender-Neutral Reader
Word Count: 1,226
summary: while you admire the view for your sketches, Kíli admires an entirely different view
content warnings: fluff
DO NOT REPOST OR COPY. MINORS/AGELESS BLOGS DO NOT INTERACT.
Tumblr media
It was long sunny days like this where Kíli felt as though he could sit in the grassy knolls with you forever, the shadow of Erebor behind you two as you sketched little drawings of the nearby flowers in your book. This was one of the many times Kíli had met you here, enjoying the stillness with you in your favorite place to relax, and now your favorite place to come to because of a certain dwarven prince.
Sometimes, he’d ask you thousands of questions just to hear the sound of your voice mingle with the wind and grace his ears. And though he genuinely listened, it was hard for you to tell with the way he would gaze at you with a dreamy look in his eye. But you never could complain, not when you admired the way his eyes crinkled when he laughed or smiled. It was a precious time you two spent together despite the unspoken growing feelings you had begun harboring for one another.
Here you were with him, the clouds peppering the sky and giving you moments of breezy shade followed by the gentle winds from the mountain; Kíli had come soon after you had set up your spot under a tall oak tree, some water and art supplies by your side as you had come today to sketch and rest your mind for a little. Like clockwork, he had memorized your favorite times to come out and enjoy the sunshine. The flowers around you were in full bloom as they ebbed and flowed against the breeze, mingled with the weeds and grass.
“Did I keep you waiting?” He had asked before seating himself, laying the grass across you as he gave you a warm smile.
“Not at all, I was simply admiring the view,” you shook your head, turning your sketchbook around to show it to him. It was a simple drawing, still quite early in its birth, but it made him smile.
“Is that so? I could give you another view if you’d like,” he said, a teasing tone in his voice as he stretched out among the soft green grass. You laughed but kept your gaze fixed to your sketch to avoid blushing.
“As lovely as that would be, I’m not sure you could handle being my muse,” you replied with an amused voice, the soft scribbling sound of your pencil filling your mind as you carefully etched the softness of the flower petals into the landscape on your page.
“You wound me, Y/N,” he said, his hand coming to his heart to feign hurt. “And I thought we were friends, truly.”
“We are, Kíli,” you said. “Which is why I’m being honest with you.”
“Well, go on then. Tell me why I would make a terrible muse,” he spoke, pressing you for more information as he admired the way the wind played with your hair. Your gaze was still pressed to your drawing, which gave him plenty of opportunity to appreciate your beauty.
You chuckled, rolling your eyes with a slight scoff. “Alright then. For starters, you never sit still,” you began, speaking slowly in between strokes of your pencil. Now the trees and the little pond were coming into view on your thick page, the scene truly coming together as you outlined the clouds in the background. This piece was almost done, you thought to yourself. “Everytime you sit with me, you fidget about like a little dog.”
“I do not!” He gasped, though he did so while twirling the grass between his fingers, their green blades intertwined in his grasp. He looked so beautiful, you thought, as he rolled around among the grass and the weeds and the flowers.
“My point exactly.” You smiled, and it was just as radiant as a flower to him. In this forested field full of flora and fauna and all of nature’s beautiful creations, you were the prettiest flower in the entire glade.
“You always move around, I can never get you to sit still,” you continued. “Even when you had me paint your portrait, it took so long because you can only sit still for a little while at a time.” In truth, Kíli’s commissioned portrait had taken quite some time for you to complete, and it was completely and utterly his fault. But what you didn’t know is that he had purposely made the process much longer than necessary as a means of being able to be so close to you on a routine basis. “And then when you do sit down for me, you always keep cracking jokes to make me laugh.”
“Would you prefer me to be melancholy?” He asked, his smile growing but his eyes seeming distant as he couldn’t do anything besides look at you. But he didn’t feel far away, no. He felt almost too close, as if he could see all of you right now as the wind brushed around you two. It was intimate.
“Not at all,” you shook your head. “I adore your jokes. But it’s hard to paint or sketch or carve or anything when I’m too busy laughing at something you’ve said or done. You’re very mischie–”
“Please stop talking so I can kiss you,” he muttered, staring into your eyes in a wistful trance, and it was more than enough to stop your thoughts completely.
“I’m sorry?” You responded, completely taken aback by his soft-spoken statement. It seemed he too was startled, eyes widening as if he had just realized that he had such a thing out loud. He hadn’t meant to, in all honesty; his thoughts had just become far too loud. And you were also quite caught off-guard, finally caught out of your sketching to look at him face to face. Silence fell over you for a second as your grip loosened around your pencil, and suddenly Kíli was all too aware of what he had just uttered.
“Forgive me, I didn’t mean to–” He began, but you quickly abandoned your art supplies, tossing them aside as you shuffled closer to him, your hands now resting on the sides of his face as you looked deep into his dark eyes.
“Did you mean it?” You asked, wanting clarification before you went any further in your current impulsive display.
“What?”
“Did you mean it? Can I kiss you?” You asked again, now growing a small worry that his question had been ingenuine.
His lips cracked quickly into a smile as his eyes danced between your eyes, your hair, your lips, and then your eyes again. “Mahal, yes. Yes, you can.” He breathed out, an airy laugh ringing in your ears before you leaned in and pressed your chapped lips to his gentle ones, your eyes closed as you pressed yourself closer to him with his face in your hands. Eager to accept your feelings, his hands snaked their way to rest along the curve of your waist, his touch gentle as he massaged small circles with his thumbs, wanting to enjoy this moment for however long it lasted.
And within a moment, you pulled away. Your cheeks felt warm as you could do nothing else but look at the beautiful dwarf in front of you. His cheeky smile returned, a brow raising in amusement. “You don’t suppose we could do that again, do you?”

Hi, could I get a matchup with a guy from LOTR/The Hobbit and Doctor Who?. If it's just one fandom only, choose your favourite 😊 I'm curvy girl with long brown wavy hair and chocolate brown eyes. Hello! Of course, I can do all three! I hope you like your matchups! <333333

The Hobbit;
Tumblr media
✨ You were simply exploring the world around you, near your little cottage home when suddenly, and without warning, thirteen Dwarves, one Hobbit, and one Wizard appeared - the Wizard (Gandalf) asked if he and the Company of Thorin Oakenshield could stay at your home for the night; you had a large barn, near your home that would be large enough for them all to rest in - being the sweet and kind-hearted person you were, you allowed them to stay
✨ That night, you made as much food for dinner as you could, taking several trips out to the barn where the Company stayed to bring them food; some of the members said that there was no need for the bountiful food, they had some brea and whatnot left in their packs - but you were kind... And stubborn (they took the food)
✨ Kili was the last to get his food, having passed the bowls of warm soup around - he loves to help out - and when you finally passed him the last bowl, your eyes met and you couldn't help but feel a spark between you as your fingers gently brushed against his
✨ You decided to have your dinner with the group, getting to know some (if not most - not getting much out of Thorin or Dwalin) of the Company - getting to know the names to the faces, what they were heading for, and what was to come in the future; by the end of the night, as most of the Company slept in the soft hay, covered in what many blankets that you had, you and Kili continued the conversation together quietly - you hadn't realized that the both of you had fallen asleep until morning
✨ It was hard to say goodbye, but as you gave the group some extra packs of food, and whatever else they needed, you had an idea; quickly wishing for them all to wait one moment before they headed back on their journey, you ran into your home - coming out with a packed bag, and a bow and arrow in your hands; Thorin tried to say that this journey was not one for a women, but as you skillfully, and quickly shot an arrow, perfectly piercing an apple in one of your apple trees, Thorin begrudgingly allowed you to come along (Kili, at the sight of your marksmanship, might've swooned)

Lord Of The Rings;
Tumblr media
⭐ You met Legolas at Rivendell when the Fellowship had just been created; (whether you were an Elf, Human, or otherwise, Elrond had taken you in as his own (you'd be friends with Arwen)
⭐ As you and Legolas were the only ones that use a bow (yeah, I'm sticking to this idea), but because of that, you and Legolas slowly began to talk about your shared interest in weaponry, and before you knew it, the both of you were seeing how many orcs you could take down with Gimli; that ultimately brought you and Legolas closer together
⭐ When Legolas has nightwatch, you stay up with him; often quietly talking - your favorite times were when Legolas told you about his home in Mirkwood, about his life there, and his childhood; you would return with your own stories of your life in Rivendell
⭐ By the end of the journey, you and Legolas were more so in love; and when the ring was destroyed, Legolas asked you if you wanted to begin courting each other (you said yes)
⭐ You and Legolas would then travel around Middle Earth together, traveling to nowhere in particular, just enjoying the time you had together

Doctor Who;
Tumblr media
🌌 You were just minding your own business when you heard a weird sound in your back yard - pausing your daydreaming as you were 'watching' a movie - you checked outside, spotting a blue police box in the middle on your backyard; then a man with messy brown hair, wearing a brown suit and coat came out confused but greeted you with a grin
🌌 He called himself the Doctor, and asked where he was, and you replied with the answer - though his next words confused you - something along the lines of 'Well, the TARDIS must have brought me here for a reason, do you need help?' Did you?
🌌 Before you knew it, you were running away from a giant flying creature that sort of looked like a dragon, but wasn't - and only a few days before Christmas; you then found out all about the Doctor, that he traveled through space and time, and you believed him (you did just run away from some sort of weird alien, and ran right into the TARDIS that was bigger on the inside
🌌 After defeating the alien that was tormenting your neighborhood, the Doctor asked if you wanted to join him on his amazing adventures - you wanted to go, you really did, but you didn't want to miss Christmas with your family; and so, the Doctor said he'd come back for you, it'd only be a second for him, and a few days for you
🌌 The Doctor did come back, a day after Christmas, and you joined him - flying through space and time, going to new worlds, seeing new creatures, meeting new people, and even falling in love; you loved traveling with the Doctor, and he loved having you with him, and he hoped that the both of you could travel together for as long as you both could

The hobbit
Love interest- none
Age of the reader 21 turned 4
Prompt
Being pulled from are world to there’s was something of an adventure. Being in in the company was fun, but after being in there world without your birth control and not wanting to face the horrible sickness that comes with your period you ask Gandalf if there’s a spell he can cast.
Well the company now has a 4yer old human to take care of for 7 days with no memory of who they all are.
Gandalf, balin and Oin treat you like a granddaughter (Balin is a huge softie to you)
Fili, kili and ori play with you and call you a little princess, with ori also making you a big sweater
Dori acts like a mother hen like always
Dwalin is also a softie to you as well, play fighting you and you “wining”
Taking naps with Bifur and snacks with Bombur
Bofur and you make toys
Gloin takes every chance treats you like a daughter
Thorin and bilbo you have dubbed “your uncles” and you constantly say that there married but you also get “mad” at them for not inviting you to the wedding :)
When you turn back with no memories the company all have little drawings you made them, and are even more protective of you.
Bonus if you add kili fake marrying you because you say “ I can’t be a princess, I don’t have a prince :(“
NEVER TRUST A SPELL ( The Hobbit x Fem! Reader )
AUTHOR NOTE! It makes me so happy to know that you requested my writing! So I think I'm going to turn this into a mini series, because I feel like there is so much and it would feel cramped to squish it all into one. <3
pairing: The Fellowship x Fem! Reader
prompt: Spell goes wrong and the Fellowship have to deal with the 'special' side effects.
word count: 300+ words

It was every fangirl's dream. Waking up one morning and seeing that you were in your favorite book. Being able to meet your favorite characters. Join them on their adventures. Potentially change the outcome of your least favorite moments.
But, waking up in your fandom that didn’t have birth control or really any treatment for your period was a little stressful. The pain was already unbearable. Add not having any painkillers on hand, it takes the excitement away from waking up in your favorite book.
“Why couldn’t I fall in with some tylenol?” I whimper, clutching my stomach.
Everything was cramping up. My stomach. My legs. My lower back. It hurt to even stand. Why I had stupidly thought that throwing away my brith contorl was a good idea, I don’t why? It was really really stupid of me. And now I was suffering because of past me.
“Gandalf, you're a wizard. Is there no cure for the pain?” I whine, holding my stomach.
“There is one..” His voice trails off at the end, “But it is not the best and there are many side effects.”
“I am in pain. I’ve run out of herbs. I will do anything.” I whine, giving him my best puppy eyes.
“But, the risks..” He argues.
“I can handle the consequences. I just need this pain to go away.” I beg, “Please just make it go away.”
                                                    ⎯¤⚔️¤⎯
Opening my eyes, I blink a few times wondering where exactly I was, the fluttering of the wind keeping me awake. I didn’t remember falling asleep. I also didn’t know where I had fallen asleep. Rubbing my eyes with my hands, I let out a loud yawn, sleep calling me back. Maybe I should go back to bed? It was really soft and comfy. The growling of my stomach fills the air. Nevermind, I want food.
Standing up from the ground, I find that my clothes were really heavy, suspiciously heavy. Staring down at my shirt, it was practically swallowing me whole. Furrowing my brows together, I rub my eyes, praying that this was just a really bad dream. Opening my eyes, everything was the same, extremely baggy clothing.
“Um..guys?” I call out, my voice coming out much more squeaky.
Covering my hands with my mouth, I froze, that was me? Peeling my hand away from my mouth, I shake my head, either this was a really realistic dream or I was somehow a child again. But, that’s impossible.
Picking up the ends of my now large shirt, I freeze as I see the size of my hand. It was a lot smaller than before. Lifting up my shirt, my legs were now a hundred times shorter than before. Was I?
“Oh, shit.” I whisper, gulping.

Hi, may I get a match-up for the hobbit please? I'm genderfluid they/them) and would like to shipped with a masc character please.
I'm an INFP-A, 9w1. My horoscope is gemini sun, leo moon, and libra rising. All of those are extremely accurate lol. I'm very whimsical and distant, but once you get to know me I'm even MORE whimsical and very emotionally intense lol. I'm a bit of a manic pixie dream girl lol. My intensity usually intimidates people, but otherwise I'm very open and friendly once you get to know me. I'm observant and introspective, which ironically makes it difficult for me to make friends and makes me a bit sensitive. I'm extremely compassionate, empathetic, patient, and understanding. It's one of my worst traits as well, since i struggle with forming boundaries and being angry at people who mightve wronged me. I'm also incredibly indecisive. I'm not a pushover though, and have no problem gently letting ppl know when I disagree with them or something.
The animals that my friends/family say remind them of me are bears and elephants. My favorite color is yellow, and my favorite flowers are honeysuckle and jasmine. My favorite season is a tie between summer and winter, even though I HATE the cold.
With my friends I'm very chaotic and they describe me as "a silly gnome/goblin". When with them i initiate most hangouts and have always been a sort of ring leader.
My giving love language is quality time and words of affirmation. Receiving they are physical touch and quality time.
I come from an abusive household and had to look out for my younger siblings (2 younger sisters and 3 cousins who are basically brothers).I've been through a lot and that's given me a unique perspective on the world and what it means to be alive.
For hobbies I really enjoy reading, crafting, writing poetry and am very good at it, and just spending time outside. I love listening to music and listen to absolutely everything and enjoy it lol. I'm very go-with-the-flow and am down for practically anything and everything at least once. I don't like mean-spirited things/people, the cold, and being man-handled lol.
My style is very hippie/70s with goth influence. I have very long dark straight mahogany hair and blue eyes, and a very small/petite frame (hence not liking being manhandled lol). I'm very pretty in a free-spirited way, and I'm quite graceful.
My ideal type is someone who can get me out of my shell a bit while still appreciating my soft/whimsical side. Someone who can have my back and we can be our inner children together, if that makes sense. I'd do well with someone who could understand me, and help me be the best version of myself. I believe love and empathy are the only things worthwhile in life, in all the various forms they take, despite what I've been through. It terrifies me though, so id need someone to convince me to take that leap with them. Its easy to scare me off as well so someone who could understand how to approach me without overwhelming me would be best. In relationships I'm very much drawn to a twin flame sort of dynamic lol.
((I'm sorry if I did this wrong, I couldn't find any rules through navigation on mobile or anything other than your post about opening match-ups, I'm so sorry if I did this wrong! Thank you so much💗))
you did everything right, no worries!! there actually should be a post on rules and stuff tho so um, i'll have to go check what's wrong with that soon. but you're all good!!
im a bit insecure about just how this turned out, cant really tell if you'll like it but we'll see!
I ship you with...
Fili!
Tumblr media
You've known Fili your entire life. You were born at around the same time Kili was and you're pretty sure that's the reason why you're so close to them. It makes sense. Your parents had never been the best and you had a lot of family that you were happy to escape from now and then, plus Dis was lovely and more of a mother to you than yours ever was. So you spent the better part of your childhood with Kili - and with Kili meant with Fili as well, because they came in a package deal. Always.
While Kili grew to be your best friend, much like a brother, Fili... you'd always felt a few butterflies around. You could've written it off as some kind of childhood crush, of an infatuation in your teenage years, but honestly, you'd never quite got over it. You were older now, old enough that you should have long since been normal about the whole thing, old enough to have found work for yourself and left your parents behind. But you were still just as close to Kili and Fili and no, you were not over your crush in the slightest. Over the years, you'd just gotten better at pushing it down and suppressing it.
So you're there with them when Thorin calls on them for the quest of reclaiming Erebor. You're there because you're practically family, because Thorin knows and trusts you, and you're just as quick to agree as his nephews. And why wouldn't you go? You love them all dearly, you'd never been on an adventure before and Erebor was your home too, after all, or would have been at least, under different circumstances. So a few weeks later you start out on a life-changing journey with your two favourite dwarves in the whole world and you're honestly only a bit wistful because you'd had to leave your books and paper behind.
The three of you are a force to be reckoned with. Kili matches your chaotic energy exactly and Fili is - though certainly being the most responsible out of the three of you - still not nearly as responsible as his uncle, so your journey to Bilbo's little home all the way in Bag's End is some of the most fun you've had in your entire life. Daily life with them is obviously great as well, but what with your work and all, you haven't seen them this much in a long, long while.
It quiets down a bit when the rest of the company joins (most of them you know, some of them you can't remember), but you're still enough to get on Thorin's nerves quite a lot. You do make friends with Bilbo, though, who's drawn to just how whimsical and open you are. He may have been a bit put off by your joking about with Kili and Fili at the start, but you have him charmed a few days into your journey. You talk about books and plants and really, anything at all, and by day six you think you may have found a new life-long friend in Bilbo.
But even though you're now spending your time getting to know someone new, you're still as observant as ever, and you notice - of course you do - that the closer you get to Bilbo, the less you see of Fili. Kili is always close by and you certainly spend at least half of your time joking about with him, but whenever you ride or walk next to Bilbo, talking and laughing, Fili seems to disappear somewhere into the background, so much so that you actually have to search for him to spot him. It hurts, a bit, because you can't seem to pinpoint just what's wrong for a while. Wasn't everything just fine when you started out on this journey? Had you said something, done something wrong? You knew this kind of thing from your parents, but never from Fili, especially because he knew about... well, about everything, really, so he knew just how sensitive you could be about things like these. You did your best not to let it bother you too much.
Instead, you focused on Bilbo. He was funny and sweet, intelligent and understanding and for as much as you love the dwarves, for as much as you love your kin, you like that he's not as rough and intense. He's different. And maybe you're a bit different than the rest of the dwarves, too - you'd always been a bit slimmer and smaller and more petite than the rest and maybe that had shaped your personality in some way, too, you weren't sure. Maybe that's why the two of you grew so close in such short time.
You express your feelings for him quite the same way you do for everyone: loud and chaotic, just the way you are. You tell him that he's funny and sweet, intelligent and understanding because that's exactly how you show people that you like them, so, well, you do. But every time when, in the spur of the moment, you give Bilbo a friendly compliment, out of the corner of your eyes you see Fili scoff. You frown and try not to interpret too much into it, but it's hard - after all, you've been doing nothing but interpret and think and imagine because you've kept all of your feelings for Fili bottled up inside of you for your entire life, analysing and wondering if maybe, just maybe, there was a tiny little chance that he liked you that way, too. Not that you've ever really found anything. He was always just Fili.
But not this time. No, not this time. This time he's scoffing and turning away and staring gloomily at you when he thinks you don't notice because you're too deep in conversation with Bilbo. You do, though, definitely, because he's not being as secretive as he thinks he is. You watch him argue with Kili one evening, which you're sure hasn't happened this severely in years. Simply put, he's being weird.
He stomps off and Kili plops down next to you right after - you ask, of course, what's wrong with his brother, but you've asked Kili multiple times already and he simply won't tell you. And as much as Fili's behaviour is upsetting you, you won't go up to him either, because you're not that kind of person that pushes others - you're not even really angry, you rarely are, because whatever the reason is why Fili is behaving this way, there surely is a reason and you know him well enough to be aware that it's a good one too.
It all comes to an end in Rivendell. Most of the dwarves are in a bad mood, Bilbo hasn't been as ecstatic the entire journey and Gandalf seems to be much happier here than travelling, so the company is a bit split when it comes to their opinions on this place. You don't mind it much. You like being clean for once. Bathing had become a luxury. So while the dwarves keep complaining and brooding moodily, you're talking happily with Bilbo and Gandalf.
The elves seem a bit put off by you, but you're used to that, and after a night in Rivendell, when the dwarves have started brooding less and - well, no, they're still complaining just as much - some of the elves are conversing more and more with you. Maybe it's because you're spending most of your time with Bilbo and Gandalf (and Elrond in tow) or maybe it's because you're open and friendly, but either way you're meeting new people left and right. And that's when Fili's behaviour changes yet again.
Instead of staying out of your space and scoffing, suddenly he's by your side everywhere you go, every step you take. You're happy at first, excited that he so surprisingly comes back to you (now you're glad that you weren't all that angry in the first place), but it becomes clear after a few minutes already that he's not there to talk to you very much. It seems that he's made it his mission to stand gloomily beside you, glare at everybody who comes close to you and generally answer everything you say to him with an unmotivated "hmpf". It irritates you.
But when you get woken up by an annoyingly loud knock in the middle of the night, that's it for you. You open the door to see Fili and you're not even angry, you're really just... tired. In every sense. He's standing there in his night clothes and he seems to have had an epiphany of some sort, he looks starstruck and you're so done. You're so done you just pull him in, close the door, get back in bed, pat the empty space next to you and tell him that if he wants to talk, he should do it quickly, before you fall asleep again.
He stands in the middle of your room for so long you've actually almost fallen asleep again when he speaks up. Stuttering, which isn't what you're used to at all when it comes to him, and stumbling over his words, admitting that he's been acting stupid, that he's been acting dumb, admitting that the reason, that reason that you were sure was there, is that he's in love with you. Deeply, desperately, for so long he can't remember a time when he wasn't.
You don't really think you've heard him right but you also don't care. It's too late, you're too tired, he's looking too warm and broad and comfortable and before you can think about much anything, you've reached for him and guided him to your bed and cuddled up to him - he smells familiar, he feels safe, and he's reaching his arms around you and placing a kiss on your hair and telling you good night and somewhere in your hazy mind, you recognise the weird feeling in your stomach as butterflies.
The next morning, you wake up warm and cozy and when you open your eyes, you're facing Fili. You're actually, honestly, truly facing Fili. It takes two seconds to register. Then you feel his breath on your lips and his forehead against yours and your eyes fall closed all by themselves as you listen to him ask if he can kiss you now. You let him. Of course you let him.
You actually do talk it out that morning, though. Between a lot of kisses and a lot of cuddling, there's also a lot of talking. You're a bit nervous (even though that feeling settles after about the third or fourth kiss) but Fili has always been good at convincing you that you were brave and strong enough to do anything, and with the rhythmic stroke of his hand on your arm, the way he beams at you when he makes you giggle, how happily he listens to you talk, all of that convinces you in just a few hours how very right you were to pine for him your entire life.
When you don't show up for breakfast, you guess the others were worried some elf had killed you in your sleep, so Kili comes knocking on your door some time before noon. In full Kili fashion, he doesn't really knock at all, he more like just comes barging into your room, so you have barely enough time to look up before he stands at the foot of your bed with a dumb grin on his face that tells you he was very much aware of what was going on with his brother the past few weeks.
You don't mind. You don't really mind anything anymore. Because you spend your days in Fili's arms now, with his hand in yours and courting braids in your hair, and you're happier than you've ever been before. Now the people you'd always considered family more than your real family did become your real family, a few years after you'd recovered Erebor, on the day that you marry Fili. The happiest day of your life, because Fili made you feel exactly the way you'd always wished he would, because he was exactly what you'd always wanted, because you loved him. And because he loved you.

Morning found Jean asleep once again under one of those wings, the angel's head buried under a pillow, crisp sunlight spilling into the room. He reached out to brush his fingers over the crook of that arm, once again amused and charmed.
He got a wordless, sleepy moan in protest.
"There are curtains, you know," he pointed out, his voice made rough with sleep, his brogue perceptible even to his ears.
"They're all the way over there," the arm gestured vaguely. "I'm all the way over here. So are you. Jean."
"Mm."
"Not a sunflower."
"Always a sunflower," the vampire teased, and got a pillow to the face for his cheek. His angel scrabbled up just far enough to straddle him, and Jean lost all his breath to the beauty of Alyss, to the press of those legs around his hips, that groin so close to his. Wings cocked, the angel leaned down to kiss him, and Jean wound his arms around him, forearms brushing the soft down at the root of each limb.
Then Alyss was gone, heading into the bathroom. "Chere's going to be here any minute now with breakfast. Do you want him to catch you like that?"
"Man'd probably cheer," Jean muttered, but rolled to a sitting position, rubbing at his neck and trying to figure out what shape his life was taking all around him. Or what sort of future, if any, there could be for the two of them.
The future began to take shape when he came out of the shower, to find Alyss already squinting at his laptop while he held a croissant and pretended to eat it. Both their heads snapped around to a woman’s glad, high cry coming from the front lawn. "Kili!"
"That'll be Evie," Jean pointed out, rubbing at his freshly shaved face. He'd given up astonishment at how thoroughly Chere had stocked Alyss' bathroom with the vampire in mind at the point where he'd found his usual brand of toothpaste and his favorite shaving gel.
Alyss rushed to the window. From there he could see a flurry of barred owl-colored wings as an angel plummeted down and all but tackled Kliman, who was waiting on the lawn. The older angel answered with a matching cry of delight, catching the newcomer and spinning them around exuberantly.
Evelie, better known to the household as Evie, was the angel in charge of Massachusetts. She was a tall, sturdy creature with screech owl wings and very dark hair and eyes, and a direct, powerful, cheerful personality. Her skin was the color of fired clay, and she was Kliman's half-sister across a distance of several centuries. She was introduced to Alyss during lunch and seemed equally delighted to meet him.
"Lilah is escorting all my hard copy documentation over here. Well." She winked at him. "The stuff that's safe to move, anyway."
It was the first inkling Alyss got that Evie was another key stop along the escape pipeline that Kliman ran. Evie and her tech-savvy folk, as well as the contacts and friends she had in the Bay area, created new identities where possible, or simply made the old ones disappear. Alyss could see the critical usefulness of it: angels had a bad habit of getting stuck on whatever time period had seen them first hit their prime. It was usually the responsibility of their underlings, humans, vampires or angels, to keep up with the technology of the times. Evie had no such problem; her team came from people who knew the cutting edge of technology didn't leap and bound ahead of itself so much as it had strapped on jet engines and removed the brakes, and she flew in delight right along with it.
While he waited on the Massachusetts books, he worked on the Maine account. It wasn't nearly as bad as he'd expected. Kliman had kept everything simple - too simple, in some cases. The very first thing Alyss had done had been data-dump every single number he could find dating back at least fifty years, bloating the books to bursting. Then he'd begun to methodically replace everything he didn't want found with harmless, but vaguely suspicious activity. Safehouses had been attached to imaginary mistress accounts; vehicles to relatives removed by six or seven degrees. He knew he was hiding a crime, perhaps one of the highest crimes any angel could commit against their own society. He couldn't make it disappear; perfect books would draw even more attention than haphazard ones. But petty sins of nepotism? No one cared about those.
He would work until Jean harassed him into breaking. Sometimes the vampire would simply drag him outside, to enjoy the advance of the season, its bluster and winds full of dry leaves, the passing herds of deer moving silently through the woods, the vicious warfare between chipmunks, the sweet and mournful calls of birds in the marsh. Sometimes they would share a meal and Jean would make agreeable noises while Alyss gushed about his work.
The vampire didn't care that he didn't understand. He cared that he could spend time with Alyss. Sometimes it strangled him, the reality of it, the old nightmare rearing up and telling him, it won't last. You'll lose him, too. Something will take him away, and there'll be nothing you can do.
But every time, as if some unseen signal had warned the angel of what went on behind the vampire's troubled green eyes, Alyss would move closer, slip his arms and his wings around Jean and kiss him, so lightly, so delicately, as if asking permission every time. And Jean would forget everything but his bird, his sunflower.
Two days after he'd gotten the Massachusetts books, Kliman called him to a meeting. Evie was still there, chatting quietly with Lilah when Alyss came into the meeting room, Jean two steps behind him. Kliman's brows went up.
"I asked him to come," Alyss preempted any protest.
"Oh, he's your Second then?" Evie seemed unfazed by this. "That's very convenient."
Alyss sputtered. "I'm nowhere near important enough to rate a Second!" he exclaimed, and Jean couldn't help but be amused. "You've got Gevaun and Lilah, I want him here."
Kliman laced her hands before her face to badly hide a grin. "Gevaun is my Second, Alyss."
"Oh, for goodness' sake." Red to his ears, Alyss sat down, primly setting his laptop and tablet before him on the table. "My preliminary report -"
"That's not why you're here," Kliman gave him a deeply affectionate look. "Alyss, why are you so bad with people?"
"Lack of practice," he admitted resignedly. "I had to choose people or numbers. It was really a terribly unfair choice."
Evie laughed. Kliman sighed and gestured for Gevaun to pour hot chocolate for them all. While they drank, she set before Alyss the plan they'd all been working on since that fateful night at the marsh: she wanted Alyss to take over for Evie in running the escape pipeline.
"No," Alyss replied at once, so terrified he blurted the truth without thinking. "No, I can't be responsible for people's lives. What if I muck it up?"
"What if there's no one, then?" Kliman replied. "I mean to make Evelie my heir, Alyss. She won't have time to do more than oversee; less even, while we find replacements for Alistaire, and a new caretaker for Maine. These people, these vampires, they deserve to have someone fully on their corner."
"Yes, someone capable!"
"Which you are."
"No, I mean someone useful!"
"Which you are," Kliman repeated, then reached out to catch the accountant's flailing hands. "You mean a warrior."
"Someone brave," Alyss strangled out.
"Alyss, none braver than the one who gave his coat away while three other people discussed shooting him for being in the wrong place at the wrong time."
Gevaun flushed faintly, and Alyss stared at the older angel's hands. "He was cold. I'll mess up. I know numbers, not people. My head, it’s all numbers. I'll mess up and then what?"
"I believe your words were, then you make plans for when things go wrong. And you make plans for when those plans go wrong as well."
"Someone's told you an awful lot about what happened that night," Alyss protested grumpily. "There must be someone else."
"There is not. Gevaun must stay to help Evie with the transition. This operation is small out of necessity, Alyss, we need to hide what we're doing and we need to hide it very, very well. A thousand humans become vampires every year, and that's just the ones that are Made legally. Some die. Some are killed. Some think they are clever enough to escape their contract, unaware of the predator they've invited into their veins. And some very, very few find themselves bound in slavery to a true monster. They’re not many, but when you are one among a thousand you’re still very easy to find if you run. We need your expertise and they need your cleverness. And if you really think they need a warrior, well. There's one standing right behind you."
"You haven't even asked him!"
"Do I need to?" Kliman asked Jean directly.
"No," the vampire replied readily from where he was slouched against a wall. He'd been just as surprised as Alyss, but he wasn't as easily distracted by fifty other concerns as his sunflower. Kliman's reasoning made sense, and in truth he realized he should've seen it coming. The choice had always been between Evie and Rook, and Rook was too much the typical angel for Kliman to trust him with her domain.
More than that, he could see why they wanted Alyss to take over. His mind caught onto problems long before they'd actually, fully taken shape. He unraveled issues before they became such. He could keep track of vast, labyrinthine quantities of data, and put them together on the fly, making a whole that fit whatever the situation called for. If anyone could keep the escape pipeline running smoothly, it was his bird. But again they came to the one shortcoming of the young angel, and Alyss apparently understood that lack on himself better than anyone.
It didn't matter to Jean. He would fight the world for his bird. The realization struck him quietly at that moment, under the bright autumn sunlight in the tasteful meeting room: it wasn't just that he could think with Alyss nearby, it wasn't just that his nightmares went quiet. But in glimpses and hints he was catching sight at last of the man he'd once been, simply because it was the man he saw in the angel's eyes.
He shrugged. "I go where Alyss goes."
"Oh, for -!" Alyss turned on his chair to glower at him. "You're not helping!" But he was pink and flushed, and Jean could smell in the book and summer scent of his bird a profound sense of relief. Alyss would have never asked him to come, Jean realized, even while he bled at the possibility of losing him, even as he feared that the vampire might wish go his own way.
He grinned a little at his bird. "This is me helping. It makes sense and you know it."
Alyss ground the heels of his hands into his eyes and made a high-pitched sound of impotent impatience. Then he snatched for the slim folder that Kliman had set on the table between them, muttering sourly at all of them. Mainly because he already knew he'd lost the argument.
16
It wasn't a quick thing, of course. Alyss still had to work on the accounting for Massachusetts, which was incredibly complex. And he had to rebuild the Maine accounting from scratch; he refused to do anything less than hide the entire operation from its inception. But that work taught him the ropes of what he'd be doing taking over Kliman's pipeline better than any sort of training would have.
When the first snow fell over the Bay Alyss found himself moved into one of the buildings that dotted Evie's sprawling domain just past Natick. Kliman had retired to the Refuge to plan her Sleep and Lilah had gone with her; she and Gevaun would be taking turns keeping watch and helping the new angel in charge of New England. Evie and Kliman had even flown to New York to officially appraise the Archangel of North America of the changeover, which he'd graciously allowed even while mourning the loss of one of his most steadfast stewards.
Jean had overseen the work on the gatehouse lodge Alyss was given, a single-story, sprawling building lost in the woods, whatever gatehouse it once served long gone. On paper Evie had made Alyss her CFO and the vampire with him a groundskeeper. In truth, once he'd sorted through the Massachusetts books, upkeeping them took Alyss all of two hours a day, and part of that was simply sending reports to the people who actually dealt with the finances. Evie had made no effort to hide from them that the angel's real job could be dangerous, and made sure Jean understood what the vampire had already known: his real job, his only job, was to keep Alyss safe.
In working with those who, however anonymously, helped fund Kliman's pipeline, Alyss began to see the innate goodness he'd missed while doing his original job. As Jean had pointed out, the angel had been called upon only by those who didn't trust anyone else. In truth angels did care about their vampires, for the most part. The problem was two-fold, he quickly realized, and the fact that angels could be unspeakably cruel becausse there was no one to stop them wasn’t even the worst part; the biggest problem was that those who did care didn’t know what they were doing. Which was was really a very silly thing to have happening when angelkind had been making vampires for as long as they had. And that was before counting those humans who were Made without ever consenting to it.
The best part, though Alyss only admitted it to himself very quietly in the privacy of his mind, was having Jean with him. Jean, walking through the snow-clad woods full of whispers and winter sunlight. Or watching him chop wood, which was a favorite pastime of the vampire, and Alyss wasn't about to say no when the ax came out, always hoping the shirt would come off then, though it never did. Granted that Jean couldn't make tea, at least not that anyone alive could drink, and his coffee was not safe for anyone's consumption but his own, but his cocoa was nearly as good as Chere's. He couldn't make croissants at the drop of a pin, but his cornbread nearly gave Alyss an epiphany. He was a decent cook, a fair hand at cleaning, atrocious at laundry, and his love for Alyss shone on his eyes, as if the sight of his sunflower brought spring to the green of them after too long a drought. It made the angel's wings ripple every time he saw that look, the look that said he was seen, he was known, he was worth something as himself, priceless as himself.
And Alyss? Alyss was balm to Jean's heart. For the first time the vampire found himself talking, finally talking, about Moissani. About the betrayal of his Making, and the centuries of brutality that had followed.
Whenever the words wrung themselves out of him and left him shaking, exhausted and angry in their bed, it was always Alyss who was there. To hold him, to soothe him, to remind him that he was worth something, that he was himself. That his sunflower loved him without judgment, cherished him without condition, supported him without doubt. To Alyss he was not Moissani's guard dog or guinea pig. To Alyss, Jean was simply Jean. Sometimes his love for the amber-winged angel strangled him and his nightmares reared up, laughing, always laughing, at the very thought that he'd ever be able to protect Alyss. How could he possibly protect an angel that seemed unable to protect himself?
To be fair, when things did go wrong, there was nothing anyone could have done to prevent it.
Evie warned them that the Guild had requested leave to make inquiries of anyone who'd worked for Kliman prior to the angel's retirement. Given Gevaun had already warned her that the Hunters were sniffing around Maine because Alyss had warned Gevaun that someone was electronically sniffing around the Maine books, no one had been surprised. Jean had suggested, somewhat sarcastically, that they act surprised. But then he had as poor an opinion of the Guild as it was possible to have.
Evie offered to bring Alyss and Jean over to her Boston offices, where the wealth of bodies would throw off the Hunters' senses. But Jean had pointed out, not unwisely, that it would be suspicious if she did so. Instead Evie had sent three more vampires, including one of her own enforcers who, perky, cheerful and freckled to death, was happy to pretend to being Alyss' gal-Friday.
Alyss welcomed the two Hunters in his office, somewhat put out by the fact they'd showed up right when he should've been doing his dailies for Boston from his office. The small room in the lodge had not been fully converted to angel use; it had no windows and it boasted the old stone walls, covered in tasteful decorative knotted tapestries. Maia knocked on the door, opened it and called out, "The Guild Hunters, sir."
"Oh, for the love of prime numbers." Alyss put aside the work he'd been doing, not even looking at the two men when they came in. He'd been hoping to get some work, any work, done. "Could you not do this electronically, everything is filed electronically, and I have so much work to do -"
"Woah." The Hunters had come to a startled, bemused stop, and one of them lifted an appeasing hand. "We're not the IRS."
"I'm -" Alyss caught himself and straightened up. "I'm aware. I just. I'm working. I'm busy."
The other Hunter introduced himself with a bright smile and a firm handshake. He looked like a cowboy out of his element, dirty blond hair in need of a haircut and friendly blue eyes, a powerful, square face with a thin scar over one cheekbone. He was twice as packed in muscle as his companion, who was tawny-eyed, wiry and watchful like a wild animal, his fine black hair dyed a rainbow of colors at the tips. They were both carrying slim backpacks, and from one they pulled a tablet. The blond man, who introduced himself as Lance, did the questioning while his partner, Liam, wrote down Alyss' answers on a tablet. Alyss called for tea for all of them.
The angel's phone buzzed in his pocket, and Alyss smiled faintly at the Hunters, not really hearing what Lance was saying at that one moment.
Don't speak, Jean had told him, in between one fierce kiss and another before he retreated to the lodge's cellar. The vampire couldn't be in the same room as the Hunters; he had a price on his head that would have bought a small Caribbean island, one of the good ones. Your mouth runs away with you when you're stressed, Alyss. And it's always nothing. You keep your secrets better than anyone I've met. But these are Guild Hunters. They might be able to use the noise against you. Don't speak.
"Never heard of an angel in accounting before," Lance admitted conversationally. "Y'all are always doing more... sweeping stuff."
"Oh, I've never wanted to be the sweeping sort," Alyss declared. "I like my job, I like numbers. They behave, unlike people."
Lance snorted in amusement. "So, until Maine you just went from post to post, working books?"
Alyss nodded.
"So why stop here?"
"Evie promised I wouldn't have to deal with people," Alyss replied primly.
Lance barked out a laugh that sounded perfectly honest, and even Liam's mouth twitched as he glowered at his tablet. "Alright. We deserved that one. We'll be out of your hair as soon as we can, I promise."
Their questions were not surprising. Had anything unusual happened while he'd been in Maine? Had Kliman, Gevaun or the others ever behaved strangely? Had he seen new faces among the staff unexpectedly? Had any of the staff disappeared unexpectedly?
"People don't just disappear!" Alyss protested at that question. "Not from an angel's household."
Lance gave him an indulgent grin, but it was Liam who answered, distracted by what he was reading. "All the time, from every place. Angels are no exception."
Alyss huffed but he clung to his silence by basking in the smug feeling of knowing what Liam was trying, and failing, to do. The Hunter had been trying to hack into the angel's computers using proximity and time, and probably the office intranet. Unfortunately for him, Evie had some very interesting young folk working for her out of Cambridge. If he kept trying the Hunter was going to end up with a very fancy slab of dead electronics in his hand. Alyss' phone had not buzzed again, so Liam hadn't even tripped anything past the first level of security.
The Hunters crossed a look. Liam shrugged, and Lance stood up from his lazy slouch. For just a moment, Alyss caught a glimpse of something metal, thin and gleaming under the Hunter's winter coat.
Necklets. They'd come armed to take vampires down.
"Well, I think we've taken up enough of your time," Lance drawled amicably, offering his hand again. "No one else in your staff ever worked with Kliman or Gevaun?"
"They not my staff, they're Evie's," Alyss countered stiffly, though he shook the offered hand. "But I don't think anyone in the house worked for Kliman. Would you like to ask them?"
One of Lance's brows went up. There was no guile to the angel, no deception to his words. A few times his innate awareness, the sixth sense that detected lies when spoken, had tried to buzz, but it hadn't picked up anything really telling. It didn't help that the angel with the amber wings was easily flustered and tremendously literal. 'Sheltered' was the first word that came to mind when the Hunter thought of the accountant; Alyss had worked for some of the worst, most suspicious, least liked of angels in their society, and yet he seemed to have noticed none of his employers' sins. For the angel to be offering such ready access to the people around him could only mean they had nothing to hide, either.
He threw a look at Liam, who shrugged with ill grace. The hacker had been sure he could get into the angel's systems if he could only get close enough to hit the intranet, or an unprotected connection through a printer, a phone, the heating system. Apparently, he'd vastly overestimated his skills. "Just your gal. I imagine she runs the staff for you. Just a couple of questions."
"Of course." Alyss led them out, and Maia perkily, cheerfully, smilingly answered all of Lance's questions as if she'd worked for the accountant since he'd set foot on Massachusetts and not just for about an hour that day. The conversation degenerated into not-so-subtle flirting until Liam cleared his throat pointedly and Lance sighed, leading the way out. At that point, out of his office, Alyss didn't see a reason not to escort the Hunters out. Some part of him was deeply paranoid about those necklets; this was his home, these were, however short-term the loan might be, his people, his staff, his charges.
The day was brightly sunny and an utter lie; as soon as Alyss set a foot outside the cold made him gasp and he wrapped his wings around himself with a huff.
"You cold?" Lance sounded puzzled, and both the Hunters looked surprised. "I thought angels didn't get cold."
"I wish someone had told my parents that. Obviously they missed some important bits during the crafting process."
Liam snorted inelegantly and Lance chuckled, caught off-guard. "Well. Maybe we can help with that." He rummaged through their backpack.
"Oh, you really don't have to, I'm going right back inside, I'm late for my -"
The words died a terrible death as all of Alyss' breath exploded out of him. It wouldn't have been any more efficient if the Hunter had punched him, instead of offering a neat, folded parcel, tied with twine, a single printed page secured atop it. Someone had gone to some effort to set up the package just so, someone had told the Hunter exactly how and when to deliver it. And Alyss had just realized that all of his vampiric protection was still inside the lodge because, after all, their angel was just escorting the Hunters out to their car.
Alyss watched his hands move as if they were someone else's, taking the cloak he'd given to that unknown young vampire, so long ago it seemed, back at the marsh in Kliman's property. It had been washed, pressed, folded. The printout atop it was likely from his mother's social media, both of them somewhere in Belgium; he honestly didn't remember where. It had been winter and she'd been fussing with the clasp and folds of that same cloak, playing the part of doting mother to the camera.
The Hunters said nothing but Alyss realized Liam had moved until he was just at the edge of the angel's field of view, and just out of range of a casual swat of those amber-colored wings.
The necklets hadn't been to capture, Alyss realized. They'd come expecting to fight off vampiric security to get to him.
"Your presence's requested at Archangel Tower," Lance said very, so very calmly.
"I should like to get some things for the trip," Alyss was astonished at how calm he sounded.
"I think we'd all be happier if you went now, and we didn't have to break out the bolos," Lance said in the same even tone.
"I need to let my people know that I'm leaving," Alyss protested.
Lance gave him a long, level look before sighing a little. There was something very like wry amusement in the Hunter's face. "Alyss, that's kinda what we're trying to avoid."
"May I make a phone call? Right here, with you two listening?"
Lance looked at Liam, who shrugged. "Brief," the blond Hunter warned him.
Alyss nodded tightly, and fished his phone out of his pants.
He was already on the network monitor. It was nothing to key in the passcode for the killswitch and hit enter. The tablet in Liam's backpack blared a muffled warning, and the Hunter scrabbled for it.
"What did you do," Lance demanded, surging forward.
Alyss reeled back, dropped his phone, and stepped on it as hard as he could. Then for good measure he kicked the ruin of it into a bank of slushy snow.
"No!" Lance barked, a hand snatching at the angel's throat in a rough, angry grip.
Alyss didn't fight him.
"Fuck!" Liam was examining the tablet. "He fried the network. The whole place's gone dark. Every computer here's now worthless."
"I can't leave for New York with you holding onto me like that," Alyss said hoarsely, and only then did Lance seem to realize the grip he had on the angel. "And I think you better leave before the staff figure out what's happened."
"Raphael's going to have words with you, Alyss," Lance warned him tightly. "No amount of data burn's gonna help you with that."
"I'm aware." Alyss could feel himself shaking, and he knew it was not the cold. "But it's an hour between here and New York, and that's if I don't hit a headwind. An hour can be an eternity if you handle it just right, Hunter."
"It's over. You know that, right?"
"If it truly were over, you wouldn't feel the need to rub my nose into it."
The door to the lodge opened and Maia peeked out. "Alyss?"
"I think you'd better go."
"Lance," Liam called out, his voice tight. "She's the one we saw. There's three more we didn't and one of them smells real fucking old."
Lance ground his teeth angrily before spinning around and hurrying to their car. The Hunters drove away sharply, tires spitting gravel, while Alyss stood very still on the driveway. He was afraid if he moved his legs, which were apparently made of gelatin, were going to dump him on his face upon the muddy shale.
"Alyss?" Maia had rushed out to his side. There was a very black gun on her hands and a decidedly hard expression on her freckled, sunny face.
"I need your phone, please," he croaked, clinging to the cloak for a moment before spreading it out with a sharp snap; the printout of the photograph went fluttering away as he threw it over his wings and settled it on his shoulders. He was unsurprised to find Evie's number on the quick-dial list. "Evie, they know. I don't know how much they know but they know, and it's kind of... It's my fault."
"Alyss, what -"
"I burned the databanks here and fried the communication authorizations. You'll be hearing from all the other safehouses soon. They need to take all their electronic files offline. Now." He stalked into the lodge; the rest of the vampires were beginning to appear from their nondescript hiding places where they'd been pretending to be staff with varying degrees of success.
"But -"
"I have..." Alyss came to a dead stop and felt as if he might faint. "I've been summoned to New York."
"Alright," Evie's voice went taut. "We'll just put you in the system, then. Get you out to China, it's chaos over there -"
"Me? Me!" Alyss leaned against a wall and felt unexplainable laughter bubble up inside him. "How do you suggest I hide the wings and pass myself as someone else? I'm not a vampire, Evie, I can't be someone else, I can't be human, I can't pass. Do you realize what they'd do to the pipeline to get to me?"
"We can't let an archangel get to you, Alyss! They'll rip the pipeline information right out of your head!"
"They will," Alyss felt as if he couldn't breathe. "And it'll do them no good. But you'll have to trust me on that."
"But then how are we supposed to help you!" she cried out.
"You aren't. You're on damage control now, that's all you should be doing. I need to get going -"
"Going where?" Jean's voice demanded.
Alyss closed his eyes for a long moment. This. This had been the reason he'd been trembling, the reason he couldn't catch his breath. There was his vampire, all that was good, all that nearly three hundred years of solitude had been waiting and hoping for, all unknowing.
All taken away in the blink of an eye.
He hung up and gave the phone back to Maia, trying to find something to say, anything to say that would sum up the hundreds of things, of feelings and thoughts that he'd not yet shared with Jean. He'd believed, foolishly, that they'd have forever. But forever had come to a very abrupt halt. Alyss opened his mouth, closed it, opened it and closed it again. He couldn't even turn around to face Jean.
"Say something!" Jean demanded, a plea barely hidden in the words.
"I have to go." Alyss turned to look at him and the rest of the bewildered staff. "Get back to Boston and to Evie. Now." They either trotted or ran to obey him and he rushed into the office.
"Go where? What happened, Alyss?" Jean followed him into the office.
"They know, the Hunters know, so I imagine someone knows, I think they caught one of the vampires from Maine and now they know something, maybe not everything but they know, and they found my cloak so they know about me, at least, and that's not good at all, but -"
"So you're running?"
The fury in the words staggered Alyss as if he'd been punched. Once again he was left breathless, staring at Jean in shock even as the vampire stared at him in disbelief.
"You can't run from this fight, Alyss!"
"I'm not running!"
"Then where are you going?"
He couldn't tell Jean, Alyss realized. Because his vampire would then demand to come with him, and the Archangel would tear him apart. Or hand him over to the Guild. "I'm not running," he repeated.
"It sure fucking looks like you are!" Jean shouted. Nothing in him wanted to believe it. Nothing. His angel was so clever, so bright, so funny, so kind. But if there was one thing Jean had known about Alyss from the beginning was that his sunflower was not a fighter. And four centuries of trauma were rearing up inside him to remind him that angels were cruel, and selfish, and liars. Whispering that the only thing angels were good at was treachery.
You can't run away from every fight that finds you.
I absolutely can, and I absolutely will.
"Do you trust me?" Alyss shouted back.
"I thought I could!"
Jean saw his angel flinch and felt as if someone had dumped him into a cold well. What the hell was he doing? This was his bird, his sunflower, the one who saw him for who he truly was, who he wanted to be. "Alyss, what is going on. That's all I need to know. What. is going. on."
I thought I could. The words had been an unexpected, searing knife cutting right through Alyss. So. He'd been... nothing, in the end. Perhaps not a trophy but likely nothing more than a pleasant diversion. A rope for the vampire to dig himself out from under his past. He should have been angry, Alyss realized, he should have been furious. At least if he'd taken up with one of the suitors his parents had found for him they would have both been honest on where they stood.
But he loved Jean. He loved him no matter what the vampire might feel, or not, for him. It was, the truest part of his brain told him, why it hurt so much to hear those four words. Love doesn't beget love, his father had once told him in the manner of someone handing out deep wisdom. Best not to love at all.
But he did love, Alyss realized. Unwisely, apparently, but he did love. "I don't even know where to begin." Which was a lie, a terrible one. He already knew what he had to do.
"Not running would be a good place." Jean bit back any further words and dragged in a long breath, trying to master his own runaway trauma, knowing it, not him, was the one talking. Already the hurt, lost look in those sweet brown eyes was making him regret everything he'd said and done since he'd barged out of the cellar to the ruckus upstairs. "Alyss, I didn't -"
"I need to talk to Evie," the angel whispered numbly, patting himself down. "I left it... Where did I..."
"I'll get it," Jean said automatically, moving behind the desk to look for the damned phone.
He was still rummaging through folders and paperwork when he heard the door close and lock and for a moment, staring at it, he couldn't believe what he was seeing or what had just happened.
The office was one of two rooms in the lodge that had not been changed overmuch. The stone walls of it and the cellar remained, to a thickness of nearly a foot. There were no windows to the office, only the door, which looked like a gracious oak example of its kind, but wasn't: it was thin oak paneling over a reinforced blast door running on hydraulic hinges. It was a panic room, supposed to protect someone from the wrath of an angry angel, if they ever found out the truth of what the pipeline did.
In a pinch, it was a very good cage for an angry vampire.
Jean leaped over the desk. "No, no, nonono, Alyss! No! What are you - Don't!" He slammed full-force into the door. Unsurprisingly, it didn't budge. "Alyss!"
"I'm not running." His angel's voice was muffled, but no thickness of steel could hide the heartbreak in it. "I wish you could believe that. I wish you did trust me."
"Alyss!" Every old fear and far too many new ones were rising up inside Jean, strangling him, whispering a new, deadly truth: he'd done this. He'd done it to the both of them. He banged on the door. "Alyss!"
"I'll call someone from New York to let you out."
"New York, wha- " Jean abruptly realized there could be only one reason for Alyss to be going to New York. The breadth and depth of his paranoia-driven stupidity staggered him and launched him shoulder-first at the door. "NO!"
But Alyss was no longer there to hear him.

Wow, 8k?? Congratulations!! 🎉 If you don't mind, I'd appreciate a LOTR and The Hobbit ship ☺️ And possibly a drabble for LOTR with the 'first kiss' prompt if that's okay!
I'd probably prefer a male ship. I'm really short, like 4' 10" and chronically ill with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Autism, Dyspraxia and a bunch of other stuff. I love writing and drawing. I'm a people person but I definitely need my alone time, I can only handle so much social interaction in a day. I love cryptozoology and science too. I really hate possessiveness and I'll need someone who doesn't mind accomodating me. I'm pretty excitable and funny but can have a hard time because of my chronic illnesses. I can infodump about nearly any topic since most of my time is spent researching things that interest me. I get nervous in relationships and am easily flustered too
Thanks so so much, I hope you have an amazing end to your week! Take care of yourself and drink lots of water hun ❤️
Thank you!~
I hope you like them~ Since you asked for a drabble for only the Lotr ship, I gave you headcanons for The Hobbit ship :)
Lotr:
I ship you with Legolas.
I think Legolas is very caring, and understanding and would never push you. He also enjoys his alone time, and would not mind when you needed your.
Runner Up: Samwise
--
'First Kiss'
As Legolas spotted you in the distance, a smile spread across his face. His whole journey back, he had been excited to see you. Your relationship had been growing, but before Legolas could truly tell you how he felt, he was sent off by his father.
But now he had returned, and he was more than ready to tell you and show you how he truly felt.
As you sat underneath your favorite tree, reading your favorite book, you heard the sound of soft footsteps approaching.
Looking up, your eyes landed on the smiling face of Legolas. Your heart jolted in your chest as a wide smile appeared on your face.
"Legolas!" You said with excitement as you began to rise.
Quickly approaching you, Legolas did not let you rise entirely before he pulled you into a hug.
You let out a soft laugh as he gripped you in his arms. You hugged him back, excitement filling your body. Pulling away from him a few moments later, you looked up into his eyes.
"I'm so glad you're back"
He smiled adoringly down at you "I'm glad I am returned."
Reaching up, he gently caressed your cheek as he stared at you, you felt your ears burning hot and your heart beating heavier in your chest.
"I cannot tell you how much I've wanted to see your smile since I left. And how much I wish I had not left before I told you truly how I felt."
You were uncertain of what to say. You knew how he felt, as you felt it too. And you wished you had said something yourself before he left, but you were too afriad.
Finally finding your words, you smiled softly. "I know how you feel Legolas."
He smiled as he moved a bit closer to you "Then let me show you."
Slowly leaning down, he cupped your chin in his hand as he pressed a soft and gently kiss to your lips. Your face burned hot, but you felt happiness jolt through you as you returned the kiss.
Mutual affection and love radiated through both of you as you held each other, glad to finally be together again, and fully open to how both of you felt.

-------------------
The Hobbit:
I ship you with Kili!
Kili adores your kindness, and fun sense of humor. He is drawn to those who are intelligent and kind, so he would be very attracted to you quickly after you met.
Runner Up: Besides Legolas; also Bilbo.
Headcanons:
Kili is always there when you need him, at the drop of a hat. He holds you comfort and happiness in high esteem and will do whatever he needs to make you feel cherished and loved.
Any time Kili goes off on a short adventure (often with his brother), he writes you letters. Even if he cannot deliver them. He will give them to you once he returns so you can read them, knowing he was thinking of you along his journey.
Kili finds it fascinating and impressive how much information you can retain, and you are always the first person he comes to with a question because he knows you will always know something about it.
He is protective, but not possessive.
Kili likes that you are easily flustered, in the sense that you always react when he flirts with you. He thinks it is cute.
Anytime your pain is flaring up, Kili will help you however you wish. A hot bad, a cold press, leave you alone? Sure he'll do it, as long as it helps.

I’m so excited to answer the ones you sent 👀 but in the meantime…
I think you know where I’m going with this…
Will you do some commentary on the Deathless chapter of Bookbinder//Songwriter??
This is SOOOOO SOOOO late, but I was determined to get to it sometime!! Sorry for the delay, but better late than never, right??
Here are my very scatter brained thoughts about...
→ Bookbinder//Songwriter: Chapter 9, Deathless
For starters, I am so glad you enjoyed this chapter, and that you continue to surprise me with your love for this fic. It felt like the perfect way to say happy birthday than to update it on your special day!! And secondly, I always knew that I wanted to give Thorin a replacement guitar, or a secondary one, named after Orcrist. It was a must.
This was one of those vaguely planned out chapters that took control of what I was doing, fleshing themselves out as I went along.
Starting with Dwalin's echoing terror of "Uncle Bilbo" and feeling replaced as Fili and Kili's second fun uncle was so fun for me. I love Nwalin as a secondary ship, and I should explore them more, for real.
The death of deathless is like...the end of an era, but it’s also the last thing that Thorin really has of his brother and his father - it’s the guitar Thrain got him, his first one, and a lot of his love for music stems from his father, so while it kind of got crushed ridiculously, it was necessary. But what came of it was better than scrapping the pieces, and I wanted there to be a way for Thorin to still hang on to those memories, but also embrace what’s to come.
His life has changed a lot since Bilbo entered it, and the band is heading in new and exciting directions, so why not a flashy new tool?
Expanding a bit more on the other friendships and such in the fic was important to me. Bilbo and Dwalin have never really had moments together - we’ve seen Bilbo hanging out with Bofur, Nori, and Ori already, and so now it was his turn to have some one on one with Thorin’s best mate. It doesn’t matter what the fic is, whether there’s romance or platonic friendships, there will always be misunderstandings.
Also, soft!dwalin is such a FAVORITE of mine. Big burly man has such a soft heart and we love to see it.
But let’s talk about Dim’s artwork. The kidlet’s drawings...one of them started out as a joke I think, and I HAD to use them. They’re beautiful, they’re hilarious, and wHY IS DWALIN SO SMALL? 😂😂😂 This combined with Sandy’s art just help make the chapter!! Band!Thorin and Bilbo’s squishy besotted face was just...perfect.
I know these scattered thoughts are kinda uninteresting but I really hope this chapter was special for you on your birthday (back in July omg) <3 I know you love this fic a lot, and I can’t wait to do more and see what you think!!!

I know this sounds boring, but who's your favorite Hobbit or Lord of the Rings character and who is your least favorite?
Nooo! Not boring at all!!
So when it comes to favorites I have like… categories? I don’t view them as a whole for some reason? So like I’ll have a favorite main character, favorite side character, favorite villain, that kind of thing?
But to just pick one my favorite LOTR character would have to be Pippin, he’s adorable, he’s funny, but he’s a very misunderstood character (in the movies) in my opinion. For Hobbit it would have to be Kili or Thranduil! I really enjoy their characters a lot, from the young prince who has so many expectations but is seen as just a jokester who doesn’t take his duties seriously making him feel the need to prove himself and then the “ice king” who lost his beloved wife and had to raise a child all on his own- they make me soft. Just saying

Chocolate Chips
Pairing: Kili x fem!reader
Word Count: 1223
Warnings: fluffiness
A/N: I doubt they had chocolate, but I’m gonna skip over that for the sake of the cuteness oops… probably didn’t have easy access to ovens either.
Also, translations for any Khuzdul are at the bottom.
Lots of love <3
Tumblr media
It was midday, and Kili had a meeting that was mandatory for him to attend, so you were alone. You were bored, and had an excess of baking materials, so you decided to make chocolate chip cookies to pass the time.
Pulling out the flour, a cloud flew up from the container, showering you in white dust. You sighed, shaking out your skirts and scattering the flour even farther over the kitchen. Taking out the chocolate chips, you couldn’t resist eating just a few to tide you over.
You were just getting the rest of the ingredients out when you heard the front door open.
“Kee?” you called in the general direction of the door, “Is that you?”
An affirmative grunt came from the entryway, and you turned to face your husband. His face was stormy, and he sulked over to the kitchen.
“You’re home early. What happened, my heart?” You asked softly, pulling him into a hug and transferring some of the flour on your clothes to his.
“Negotiations didn’t go well, Y/n, and there’s nothing that we can do about it. Fili and I tried so hard to present our case, but nothing came of it,” he sighed, nuzzling his face into the crook of your neck.
“I’m sorry, amrâlimê,” you said, giving him a kiss on the cheek.
He stepped back and took a good look at your flour covered body, and asked, “What have you been doing that has made such a mess?”
You smiled sheepishly and pointed to the ingredients on the counter. From those alone, Kili realised what you were doing, and chuckled.
“Cookies, Y/n? Really?” he questioned, raising an eyebrow.
“Kili, my love, you are more than welcome to help, but if you are going to mock me, go somewhere else,” you said, putting your hands on your hips.
Turning back to the counter where you laid out all of your ingredients, you pulled out a bowl to mix them in. Grabbing a spoon, you began to combine them and a dough began to form. Taking small bites of the batter, you smiled at the sweetness.
You felt arms come around your waist, and you leaned back into the crook of Kili’s neck. He reached past you and grabbed a chocolate chip out of the container, and you slapped his hand away.
“Don’t touch!” you scolded, but he muffled you by popping it into your mouth, “You’re a child, Kee.”
Smiling to yourself, you had an idea. Grabbing some flour out of the container, you tapped him on the nose, leaving the white powder behind. He laughed and rubbed his nose against your shoulder, letting the dust fall all over your garments. Seizing another handful of flour, you tossed it at him, showering the both of you, making both of you convulse with giggles.
“Well, now you’ve done it, Y/n,” Kili laughed gleefully, shaking the flour that covered him onto the floor and you. Flour continued to fly across the kitchen until you realized that you had almost none left.
“Truce! Truce!” you called putting your hands up. You ran your hands through your hair, shaking out a cloud, “This is never gonna come out, oh my god.”
Turning back to the cookies, you finished mixing and were finally ready to put the cookies in the oven.
“Love, can you pull out a pan to put these on?” you asked, finally regaining your composure. He leaned over to a cupboard and pulled out a pan, but somehow managed to spill the rest of the pans all over the floor.
“Oops…” he said as you giggled at the sight of him surrounded by the mess of pans and still covered in flour. Chuckling, he said, “Here’s your pan, anyways, love.”
Without much further ado, you got the cookies in the oven. While the cookies baked, Kili held you in his arms and danced around the kitchen. He hummed a dwarvish melody that was sung at each Durin’s Day, and you hummed along as he twirled you around the kitchen.
Before long, you pulled the golden brown cookies out of the oven. They were mouthwatering, but you knew that you would burn your mouth if you tried one.
“Kee, be careful. They’ll burn you, love,” you said, turning to find a drink to have with the cookies.
Behind you, you heard a small hiss of pain, and you laughed, “Kili, I told you they’re really hot.” Turning around, you saw the prince standing next to a bitten cookie oozing with chocolate.
“Can you kiss it to make it feel better?” he pleaded, giving you puppy dog eyes and a pathetic smile. You sighed and walked over into his open arms, wrapping your own around his neck. Leaning your forehead against his, you admired his deep brown eyes as they studied yours.
“You’re insufferable, yâsûn.”
“Yes, but you wouldn’t have it any other way, yâsith,” With that, he leaned in and met your lips with his soft ones. He tasted like chocolate and sugar and pulled you flush to his chest. You ran your fingers through his hair and his hands roamed over your back and stomach. He slipped his fingers under your tunic and stroked your skin gently, feeling all the dips and curves in it. Opening his eyes, he gazed into yours, gushing, “Mahal, you’re so beautiful, amrâlimê.”
At that moment, you heard a knock on the door. “Brother?” a voice called from the outside.
“Fili,” you both breathed, looking at each other. The both of you readjusted your clothes quickly, and walked to the door.
“Hello, Fee, what’s going on?” Kili asked, smiling brightly at Fili’s unimpressed expression.
“Kili, you are covered in flour, your hair is a mess, and there’s chocolate all over your face,” Fili scolded, looking him up and down, “What have you two been doing?”
“Just baking some cookies,” you answered nonchalantly.
“We have to go back to the throne room! Negotiations aren’t done yet!” Fili exclaimed, throwing his hands up in defeat.
“Right, right… um… I’ll be there in a moment,” Kili muttered, walking off to clean up.
“Fili, would you like a cookie?” you asked with a laugh.
“I would love one, thank you,” he answered, chuckling in return and walking through the door into the kitchen.
You and Fili stood in the kitchen munching on cookies and discussed the negotiations that they were trying to complete. He sounded hopeful, so you knew that something would come of the endless meetings.
Kili came out of the bedroom looking presentable, and as he passed you, he pressed a chaste kiss to your cheek.
“I love you, ‘ibinê,” he said, “I’ll be back for another cookie soon.”
“I know you will, uzfakuh,” you replied with a smile, “but I know you won’t be back for just the cookie either though, Kee.”
He winked at you and left a final kiss on your lips as he walked towards the door with a groaning Fili.
“You two are gross,” Fili complained.
“One day, big brother, you will find your One. Don’t worry,” said Kili with a grin, patting him on the shoulder reassuringly, “It’ll only take a little time.”
With that, the giggling Kili shut the door, saying, “Goodbye, my treasure, and don’t eat all of the cookies while Im gone!”

The type of person my favorite Tolkien characters would fall for:
With Boromir, Éowyn, Éomer, Merry, Pippin, Fili, Kili, Thorin, Bilbo and Tauriel.
I know Tauriel technically isn’t a Tolkien character, but I love Evangeline Lily and I love red-haired women. Sue me.
——————————————————————————
Tumblr media
Boromir:
An artist. It doesn’t matter what kind of artist; whether you practice in paintings, clay, paper, wood, writing etc., he would love an artist as a s/o. He is always quite busy himself, therefore he never found time and dedication to a hobby, so seeing his s/o being capable of - for example - making a small statue or candle holder from a block of clay would absolutely blow his mind. He would run around with it, showing it off to anyone. He does know when not to, though. If you don’t want others to see it, he would leave it as it is, but your art always passes through his eyes. He’d see you work and he’d see the finished product, even if it is not for him to see. He’s always intrigued by it. Make him something special that is for him personally, and you made this man’s whole week. Perhaps even his whole year. He’d put it up somewhere in his room for everyone’s eyes to see. The love this man holds for you and your art cannot be measured, honestly.
———
Tumblr media
Éowyn:
Someone who is just as pigheaded and independent as she is, I believe. Obviously, there is no holding her back, but she can be insecure at times. She needs a s/o who will remind her of how strong she is and that she deserves anything this world has to offer. Someone who would follow her to the ends of Middle-Earth if it meant making her prove her worth. She has the constant need for validation as she grew up overlooked as Shieldmaiden instead of warrior, so she would love someone who would remind her of her worth and shower her in affections and compliments constantly. Even if it is not needed. She always appreciates it and cannot express her love for you whenever you show her how much she means to you.
———
Tumblr media
Éomer:
An absolute sweetheart. Someone with a caring heart and good causes. Perhaps you have a soft spot for certain people or animals, but he’d love it. Someone who would remind him of the good left in the world. How something so dull can appear so colorful and prideful at times. A bit of sunshine after the rain. He has seen a lot of war and violence himself, so upon meeting someone who will remind him of the positive things in life, he would most likely fall in love at first sight. Give him a bouquet of flowers or a personally baked cake, and he’d melt on the spot. You’d always give him something temporary to show him that beautiful things might not be everlasting, but they can certainly cheer a person up. You’d give him a whole new perspective on life, and he loves it.
———
Tumblr media
Merry:
A silent person, most likely introvert. I feel like Merry is fairly extroverted himself, but he’d love someone who is more to themselves. A person who does not parade around with an open mouth and open mind. Someone who holds back a bit more. Perhaps of shyness or purely the idea of not being comfortable around others. He would probably fall in love with a bookworm; someone who can spent the days in their room reading a good book without the need of socialization or fresh air. I can just imagine him coming home one day with you one the couch reading. He’d just wriggle his way into your arms, head on top of your chest and just stay like that while you keep your eyes on your book, you hand occasionally drifting down to roam through his hair. He’d love it.
———
Tumblr media
Pippin:
Someone with great stories to tell. He’d love stories about literally anything. You could tell him about old fairytales or things that happened to you once, it doesn’t matter. Pippin loves a good story. You could just lay beside him at night and talk about a vacation you had years ago or a book you recently finished. He’s a sucker for it. I also feel like he would love someone who would join him in his occasional mischief, but also someone who would tone him down a bit and make sure he isn’t doing something too irresponsible. A bit like Merry, but with more control over brakes and consequences. But still someone who knows how to have fun, though. That’s the most important to him.
———
Tumblr media
Fili:
Give. Him. A. Badass. Partner. Someone who can beat his ass in combat. Someone who always speaks their mind and isn’t afraid of the consequences. Fili would be absolutely smitten with a s/o like that. You don’t even need to draw a line at your actions, that is his job. He’d keep you in line whenever necessary. Speak up for what you believe in, fight for what you feel is right; it’s just the things that draws Fili to you. He needs someone who can just beat a pack of orcs in hand to hand combat without breaking a sweat. I know I gotta keep it pg, but this dwarf would instantly be turned on, there’s no way to sugarcoat it. He would love someone who could also think strategically, and create a clever solution to any plan, not necessarily thinking about what others want, but solely on that that needs to be achieved. He loves it. He would never shut up about it.
———
Tumblr media
Kili:
A nerd. I am so sorry for the Tauriel and Kili shippers among us, but you cannot convince me that Kili would not be head over heels for someone who is incredibly smart or logical. Maybe you will tell him a bit about history, or an analysis about what his stupid actions might lead up to, but it’ll shut him up. Literal heart eyes. You could rant to him about anything about any subject you’d like. You can talk about geology for hours? He’d listen to it all. Invested in Mythology? He’d be in awe of everything you can info dump him about. He would probably brag about it in front of others about how smart his s/o is. He loves using it in arguments (which he will guaranteed get into. He does not know when to shut up.).
———
Tumblr media
Thorin:
A musical and emphatic s/o. Thorin enjoys music more than he lets on, but if you can play any instrument (or even sing), his heart would be taken. He could listen to it for hours, occasionally even joining in - as he can sing and play harp, no I will never shut up about this. It does not even matter to him what genre it is. Whatever music it is you make, he will appreciate it and let you play in front of others if you give him permission to. Personally, I think he’d prefer someone who likes holding their music as something private, because it makes hearing it even more intimate, but if you are prepared to let others listen too, he would probably not shut up about it for the rest of the night. The empathic part speaks for itself; Thorin is not exactly good with emotions, so he needs someone who would tell him what to say and how to act at certain times to spare other’s feelings. It takes away the whole intimidating part about Thorin, that much is true, but a king needs to be decent and polite, and not rough and stern, correct?
———
Tumblr media
Bilbo:
A decision maker. Bilbo is, obviously, a people pleaser. He needs someone who will help him out in decisions and conversations. Someone who has a mind set out on a single thing and will not wander from it. Someone with a strategic and steadfast mind. A smart, and quick thinker. He loves riddles, so if you were able to return one at the same time he’d asked you one, he’d be on cloud nine. Perhaps also someone he could just turn to whenever he’s frustrated or in trouble. Where he could say what he wants to without getting any response. He’d probably love an s/o who would walk up to a waiter to tell them he wanted ketchup with his fries.
———
Tumblr media
Tauriel:
Someone who takes joy in the smaller things. Maybe a little daisy in a big field, or a simple bird bathing in a river bank, but those little things that make you happy, would make her absolutely adore you. When you always manage to find something positive or look on the brighter side of things, no matter how desperate they might look. Tauriel is a realistic thinker, and it often had negative influences, so with a s/o who could convince her to see the good side would be a great relief for her. A charming person who could cheer up anyone, or could make others laugh, even as things seem dark, would be amazing for her. She would even admire you for it. She loves that about you!

“ … And the roar of Smaug was thick and smothering with fog as dark as a starless sky as his gullet filled with red flame, ready to destroy us all.” it was a familiar tale, one always told in the same manner. he had, no doubt, asked the little ones what story they would like to hear tonight before sleep, and you could almost hear the exclamations from your children now- a begging, pleading, to hear the epic story of the day he and his company stared down the dragon Smaug. it was their favorite, and you knew he wouldn’t admit it, but it was Thorin’s favorite to tell.
you smile, fond, upon the echoing of your husband’s baritone as you move closer to the nursery; your youngest son, Sindri, but a toddler upon your hip. ever your shadow, the child clings to you, small and chubby fists gripping on to the neckline of your gown. he is much softer, and more shy than your other sons, and prefers to remain as close to you as possible. in this moment, however, his marble eyes are shut, pink cheek smushed against your bosom as he slumbers in your arms.
“Then what happened?!” as always, your daughter Idunn seems most enthralled with the telling. contrary to the softness of her voice, there’s always been quite the adventure-hungry sparkle within the two, glimmering jewels placed ever so delicately into her doll-like countenance. Thorin says she has your eyes, and he is absolutely right.
“The devil Smaug, destroyer of kingdoms, glared at me. His eyes were as fierce as the fire in his breath, massive and marbled like molten earth. He means to kill me, use his meat-hook claws to tear my flesh from my very bones!” Thorin’s voice booms from within the room you approach, and out erupts child laughter. you are certain as the rising moon that he has attacked your daughter and twin boys with merciless tickling to their ribs, as you’d seen this performance many a night.
“Weren’t you frightened?” Vali cries. their shadows come into view as candlelight dances across the stone walls, and you find yourself pausing by the threshold, hanging back to hear the story as well.
“Of course not!” Ulf cuts in, matter of factly. “Father fears nothing! He is much too strong.”
glancing down to your feet, the smile tickles your lips. how simple things were in the mind of a child, everything made sense and was factual. Thorin was a strong man, and thus in the eyes of your sons, could not feel fear.
you hear Thorin’s hearty chuckle, a deep and warm sound, like deep crimson embers of a dying flame. “Even the strongest men can still feel fear,” he corrects his son, “if not for their own destruction, for the ones they care for.”
“You were worried about mother.” Idunn suggests.
“Aye.” Thorin replies, most sincere. “And the rest of my company. Your cousins, Fili and Kili, were also heavy upon my mind. If I could distract him, if only for a few moments, then perhaps they could escape. I charge the beast, bellowing a mighty roar as I do. If he means to kill me, then he shall feast on me alone.” as you listen, you press your back against the cool stone and close your eyes. you could still remember that moment as if it had happened only the day before. the fear, the anguish, and the desperation you’d felt. a powerless, pathetic bystander. “I swing my mighty axe, but have not the power to pierce the stygian scales. his massive claw swipes at me, the wind from the force of his batting sends me on to my back, and that is when the claw comes down upon my chest and pins me there!”
Idunn gasps as her father’s fate hangs in the balance; almost as if she hadn’t heard this same tale hundreds of times before.
“I could feel the heat of the flames in his throat ready to engulf me. Long, black claws sharper than swords and twice as lethal form a cage around my body. I am trapped, and I call out for the others to run while they still can. Smaug’s neck contorts as he leans close and bares his foul smelling, blood stained teeth at me.”
“What does he say? What does he say?!” Vali is excited, you can hear it in his voice; this is his favorite part of the story and always has been.
“‘IT IS OVER, THORIN SON OF THRAIN!’” as loud as thunder, Thorin’s impression of the dragon echos in the nursery, an evil snarl upon the very tip of his tongue. “‘I AM GOING TO ENJOY WATCHING THE SKIN MELT FROM YOUR CHARRING BONES!’I am certain this is the end, and as his wicked lips pull back, and his mouth opens, I watch a sea of fire overflowing from his belly, clawing its way up his throat to embrace me in flame.”
your children are silent. there are very few moments in which every one of them are brought to complete and utter quietness, but this part of their favorite story is one of them. you can hear the crackling of the fire that warms their bedroom; it must’ve been dying down by now, and you press your lips to Sindri’s temple in a loving kiss.
“If I would’ve closed my eyes that day, I wouldn’t have seen it. For as I stared into the depths of the beast’s fiery belly, a silhouette leaps atop his monstrous paw and obstructs my view-“
“Mother!” all three of them exclaim at once as you enter the room, finally, both as a greeting and exclamation of the story. you smile upon the visage of your tripled offspring, Idunn sits atop your husband’s lap and the twins on either side as he’s planted on the bed.
he, too, raises his oceanic gaze and typically stoic features are incredibly softened by firelight. “Indeed,” he murmurs, holding his daughter tight. “It was your mother, she had leapt on to Smaug’s paw and is between myself and certain death.” as the story continues, you carry your youngest to his crib and lay him down gently, so as not to wake him. even with your back to the lot on the bed, you can feel Thorin’s eyes upon you. much has changed since you’d married him, since the dragon had been slain and he had become the rightful king of Erebor, but much had stayed the same. you didn’t suspect the way he looked at you would ever change, and you wouldn’t want it to.
“What did you say to Smaug, mother?” Ulf urges you to join in on the storytelling once Sindri is sleeping peacefully in the corner of the room, and you turn on your heels with a tilt of your head. all four beings are waiting eagerly.
“I took a deep breath, looked Smaug right in the eye, and said, ‘you have taken enough from us, you will not take him from me.’” coming to stand at the bedside, you can feel Thorin’s strong arm embrace you, and guide you closer.
“Your mother thrust her sword into the dragon’s chin, with so much ferocity that only a few of his tough scales gave way and fell to the stone floor-“ Idunn toys with the obsidian scale on a chain around her neck. it was only just larger than her hand. as her fingers glide over it, her marble eyes are wide with amazement, for she can feel the scathing from your sword. “-her sword, though blunted by the dragon’s iron scales, pierced his flesh, jutted into his mouth. It was lodged so perfectly through his jaw and up into the roof of his mouth that it sutured it shut.”
resting your hand on Thorin’s shoulder, you knead against the muscle there- it was quite the habit, to comfort him with physical affection.
“She jumped from the dragon’s claw as he rears his nasty head, fire flooding from the corners of his mouth in scalding streams, and Dwalin took to crushing each, individual finger beneath the weight of his powerful hammer until I was freed. Kili fired many arrows at the beast’s eyes, blinding him while I found my footing and collected my axe. Before I can face Smaug alone, I feel the warmth of her hand in my own. I turn to look at her, and I am in awe all over again,” as he speaks, Thorin does the same as in the story, tilting his head and staring at you. “The flames dance around us, and cast this celestial glow about her face. The fiercest, loveliest woman in all of Middle Earth was staring back into my eyes.”
“‘If we are to take the dragon’s head, then we do so together. If we are to run, then we do so together.’” the words are so easily remembered that they bubble from your throat simply when you gaze upon your husband. “‘For I will never do anything apart from you again, Thorin, son of Thrain.’”
your eyes are drawn to your son, Vali, whose eyelids are drooping. your free hand flees to run your digits through his tendrils.
“You chose to kill the dragon!” Idunn exclaims amidst a yawn. “Together!”
“Aye,” Thorin exclaims with a wide grin. he has since plucked your daughter from his lap and is laying her on her back against the pillow, pulling the blanket up close. leaving a peck upon her forehead. “Myself, your mother, and the whole company charge Smaug with every ounce of strength and courage that we can muster.”
“We fought among the flames that day,” you chime in, both arms coiling around your sleepy son to hoist him into your arms and carry him to his own bed a few feet away. he all but goes limp the very moment he touches the bed. “And broke many a blade against Smaug’s scales.” tucking Vali in, you glance over to see Thorin doing the same with Ulf, who has always been the most reluctant to sleep. “But, we didn’t give in. With your father leading us, how could we ever lose hope? He is the very beacon of it within our people.” your eyes meet Thorin’s, and you smile. it is mirrored upon his countenance as well, so swollen with love that it must hurt his cheeks. “We defeated the menace, then. The dragon, Smaug, was defeated, and the Lonely Mountain was once again, ours.”
once you had given your son a goodnight kiss to his satin cheek, you stand upright and strode across the room to smother the fire in the fireplace. the room darkens without the orange glow from the pit.
“Father became king,” Ulf yawns, as if the blanket of darkness had exhausted him, “and the two of you were married?”
you nod, coming to stand by Thorin at the door to the nursery, and your voice is little more than a whisper, as his siblings already sleep peacefully and he is not too far from dreamland, himself. “Yes, and we lived happily ever after with our four, beautiful children…”
Tumblr media
less than an hour had passed, and Thorin now lounges in the massive bed you typically share with him. he has retired his garments and the golden crown. navy sheets of silk are draped over his lap, his hands resting behind his head. you are but a few steps away from the bed, one strap of your nightgown sliding down to sag against your bicep. the moon was high in the sky already, and from the castle in the mountain, you feel closer to it than ever. you look towards the balcony, and the gems of your couplet coruscate as you embrace the night.
“What are you thinking about?” Thorin asks, followed by a gruff, “if I may ask.”
faint bemusement possesses your countenance as you arch a brow. “The children,” you admit, before your gaze is cast downward to your bare feet as they peek from beneath the billowing skirt of your gown. “How they love the tale of their father, the dragon slayer.” you glance up at him, to find him staring back- sapphire hues watching you closely. “Sometimes, I wonder if we have made a mistake in telling them the truth. They are only children, after all, what should they know of slaying dragons and the horrors we faced without our kingdom on the mountain? This is their home, and this is all they’ve ever known. Shouldn’t we have kept it that way?” as you speak, you turn on your heels and approach the balcony. “They’re safe here, but sometimes I feel a familiar terror creeping up on me, the thought that Smaug will blot out the moonlight with massive, black wings and set the whole kingdom alight once more. What if we are putting the same fear into their hearts?”
a bit taken aback by your fears, Thorin’s expression changes; normally furrowed brows seem to relax as his countenance softens, and he withdraws the sheet from his body and pulls himself on to his feet. you can hear the sound of his heavy steps as he approaches you from behind, followed by the warming, strong embrace of his sculpted arms. they pull your back against his torso and you melt into the vice, but your eyes remain on the sky.
“My love,” he whispers, velveteen and soft against the shell of your ear. “Smaug is dead. Destroyed. You know this, it was half your doing.” his tone is much gentler than the norm. he chooses his words carefully, fully aware of the traumas carried by living a life on the run for so long, an experience he, too, knew all too much of. “The kingdom of Erebor is restored, and our children are safely under our watchful eyes. You don’t have anything to fear, not anymore.” you nod, hands fleeing to find his forearms and you hold on to them for dear life. he feels this, and responds by unhooking them from one another to allow your smaller hands to be swallowed within his own. your satiny skin rubbing against his calloused palms. “Dragons are but fairy tale creatures to the little ones, an evil obstacle in a bedtime story, and that is what they will remain.”
“And what of another enemy?”
“I will cut them down.” he mutters, an air of determination and certainty. “Anyone who dares to threaten my wife, my children, will bleed upon the edge of my axe.”
you believed him. for as long as you could remember, Thorin had been a man of his word, and he would stand against any foe to his people, but this was different. there was a darkness in his voice, as if the mere thought of any harm coming to you or your children would send him into a bloodthirsty frenzy for revenge. you were sure that was the case.
“You are safe, my love, my queen.” he repeats, nuzzling his face in the crook of your neck; his beard tickles your neck as he plants fleeting, saccharine pecks over it. “We are safe.”
you’d been told such a thing many times before by others, but none were as believable as Thorin. none were so true than his words.
“Because of you,” you whisper, finally resolved and convinced enough to speak. “My dragon slayer. My king.”

Kili
At first, Kili was more than desperate to see you suffer so much. He had no idea what to do to help you. He had followed your wishes, always hoping that the pain would stop. But over time, Kili learned what you needed and when you needed something. And when you are sad, or especially sensitive, he doesn't joke around. Kili can also be a bit more serious. At first, you were very embarrassed by Kili pulling off the blood-stained sheets. But Kili saw no problem in it. There is nothing to be ashamed of; that is what he said to you. And if you get hungry, Kili will be the first to help you loot the pantry. Secretly at night, you eat your favorite foods and laughing together.

Ori
At first, Ori was a bit confused by the fact that you are in so much pain. But Ori is very empathetic and quickly learns how to deal with it. He keeps bringing you hot tea, wrapping you in warm blankets, sharing his warm food with you - and making sure you get the most of it. Some days when it's really bad, he won't leave your side. But if you want to be alone because you need your privacy, Ori will accept it and leave you alone. However, you can be sure that the dwarf will check on you every twenty minutes in case you need something.
"My dear, can I get you anything?" "No, Ori. Thank you..." "Okay... But maybe some fruit? Or some hot chocolate? Would you like some hot chocolate, my dear?" Ori is just too sweet and loving. With a soft laugh, you snuggle into your pillow. "But only if you drink one too, my love!" "Deal!"

Thorin
Thorin is very loving to you during this special time. He knows that your body is under stress and you just need to rest. Therefore, he does not bother you with unnecessary tasks that the others could also do. He takes a lot of time for you, especially when you seek his closeness, he does not leave your side. Cuddled in warm blankets, your head rests on his lap while he gently strokes your hair. Quietly, he hums a song to you to calm you down and distract you from your pain. If you argue, Thorin will know that you don't mean what you say and he won't be angry with you. He knows that he is stubborn. But he also knows that this is the reason why you love him.
"I'm sorry for what I said to you," you mutter, tortured with pain. "Shh. It's all good. Save your strength." "I love you, you stubborn donkey." "I love you too, my heart."

Dwalin
It takes a while for Dwalin to finally understand that your bad mood is caused by your hormones. Dwalin is known for his temper, but much like Thorin, he doesn't take the little arguments during your special time too serious. Dwalin rarely shows his patient side, but he does it for you. He tries everything to make your pain somehow bearable. He knows how much it helps you when he takes you in his arms and you can snuggle up to his warm body. He likes to spend a whole day with you in bed to make you feel comfortable. And whatever you need, Dwalin is there for you. He will take on any tasks to lighten your burden. This tough warrior has a very soft heart. Especially when it comes to you.
"Mhm, Dwalin... cookies..." "Ye want some cookies, love?" "Mhm... yes. Cookies." Dwalin laughs softly before pressing a kiss to your forehead. "Ok. I get ye some."
