was thinking a lot about the end of S3, where Tendou and Ushijima are stretching and Tendou, in the past tense, tells him that he "will brag about having been best buds back in the day," and I think about what we know about Tendou, and Ushi, and how Tendo had probably never had a best friend before then, had probably fallen into it by accident and found himself swept away by someone with such a resolute simplicity to his friendship-making that even all of Tendou's weird tendencies, offputing jokes or niche interests still made the cut. How Tendo had, probably, looked at the end of his volleyball career as the end of his first and his last best friendship, because Ushijima is overt about wanting to go pro and surely, surely, being his closest friend is a case of convenience, where they are in the same dorms, the same classes, the same gym. When Tendo is no longer standing beside him, someone of Ushijima's disposition will probably just look to whoever is standing there instead. Tendou thinks will complete confidence that they will not keep in touch after graduation, he thinks Ushijima is bound for glory and does not see himself worthy of a position at his side. I wonder if he kept thinking this while they were packing their bags. While Ushijima was celebrating his acceptance into a French school with him, while he was hugging him crushingly tight goodbye in the airport. I wonder if he still thought that it was an inevitable future when Ushijima was calling him after practice and making time for messages despite the time zones. I wonder if there was ever a specific point in which Tendo realizes that it was not some playful joke, that when Ushijima had returned the sentiment and called him his best friend, he had meant it with his whole heart, the same ferocity used to dominant a volleyball court turned into tenacity in the face of a long-distance relationship, a refusal to let go of his first and last best friendship. I wonder if Tendou in high school, who admires Ushijima so much, could ever have convinced himself that that same Ushijima holds so much admiration for him in return that he would fly across the world to meet him in Paris just to tell the world that they were best friends on international television.

a/n: i know some no longer play vb in timeskip but i still wanted to write something abt it since i’m dealing w my own vb injury atm 💔

an injury. he always pushed himself beyond his limits, his body breaking down numerous times, practically pleading for a break. the most he’d do was ice it for an hour and take a break for a day, then he’d be back to training. it was a strenuous activity and his body could no longer withstand it, not like how it could when he was in his prime. after a recent injury, he had gone to the doctor instead of the athletic trainer despite his desperate attempts to tell the coach he was fine. his doctor almost immediately evaluated that he couldn’t be cleared to play again, not without worsening another injury. it was a harsh truth to come too, a now mental challenge he must overcome.

ATSUMU, bokuto, NISHINOYA, YAKU, iwaizumi, HINATA

losing the love for the sport. as they say, one bad coach can ruin everything. practice began to feel like a chore to attend. he couldn’t see to get song with his teammates, often disagreeing with his coach about certain things. he had spent hours training on his own just to be blatantly ignored by the coach. the favoritism on the team surpassed the sheer talent others had. no matter how hard he worked, he’d never be seen. at one point, he just accepted it and took his leave. for good.

daichi, TSUKISHIMA, ENNOSHITA, yamaguchi, tanaka

overshadowed by the newer generation. he had won numerous awards and made many high level teams in his prime. as he got to his mid-late twenties, he began to feel time on his muscles and joints. sure, he still had that power as he always had, but every little injury we’re a risk to his career. coaches noticed this too as his playing time started slimming down. it was something he had no control over. watching all the fresh and youthful bodies fill in his position was heartbreaking. he longed to get back out there and play as he once did.

Semi is one of those "ya I only listen to obscure artist" / " yeah, I like them, but now they're two mainstream" guys. IM SO SORRY BUT LIKE?? he's a musician and just something tells me that he either listens to these obscure artists that no one really knows about (and lowkey arnt that great) and old 80s rock music but in an elitist way.

Atsumu not only keeps track of his body count, but also cares about others 💀💀. And I mean like notes app of all the peoples names. He doesn't care in a slut shamey way, in like a how freaky/ experienced are you way. His body count is in the 30s btw.

Akaashi not only doesn't use social media, but has that "social media is childish" look on it. Like this man has a Facebook, that he hasn't posted on since like high school, has an Instagram, because Bokuto made it for him, and uses Youtube that's it. It's not so much that it's in a super obnoxious way, but like if you try to tell him some Internet drama, he'll kind of roll his eyes and will go "why does it matter?"

Tsukishima thinks skincare is "girly" and uses 3 in 1 💀💀 God I feel this one in my gut yall! Like u could be doing a face mask and could offer him to do it with u and he would go "umm..no thanks". Also with the 3 in 1 he would be like "it saves time" like sir what ru so busy doing that you can't take two seconds to separate the three in your shower routine?? On top of it though he'll bitch that he has acne.

Ushijima sleeps in the complete dark and silence. This is psychopath behavior first of all. Second tho, he will be like "ya it needs to be quite or I'm not sleeping." And this is something he will not compromise on. I'm talking not even using ear plugs or eye mask kinda shit. You better just get used to sleeping with some headphones on, he's not budging on this.

pov: you and ushijima's daughters are messy

When the girls were in elementary, they would often be found in the backyard together practicing. Wataru made a point to watch because there was no greater joy than watching the people he loved most enjoy the sport he loved most. Airi sent a hard spike Keina’s way which she dives for, not hearing her father's warning to let it go as it was headed for the concrete where there would be an opportunity for-

“Ow!” she cried. 

Injury.

Before Wakatoshi could get to her first, Airi quickly rushed over to her little sister and knelt down to see what was wrong, and immediately saw the large scrape on her knee. 

“One to ten?”

“Seven,” Keina winced. 

Airi brought Keina’s arm over her shoulder and helped carry her inside. They went into the downstairs bathroom together where Keina hopped on the counter and Airi rummaged through the cabinets until she found the first aid kit. She began tending to her sister's wound, ignoring her as she winced when the peroxide hit her skin. It didn’t take too long until she was down and placing a large bandage over her knee. 

“Thanks,” Keina whispered.

“Of course, Kei. I’m your big sister, I got you.”

“Always?”

“And forever.”

Keina tenses up as Airi enters the restroom while still washing her hands. Airi stood next to her and began to fix her hair- still in braids- in the mirror. 

“You did well out there,” Airi tells her, not bothering to look over in her direction.

“Thanks,” Keina whispers, uncomfortable beyond words, and lacking the right ones.

“Service ace, first game, wow.”

“Airi if you’re gonna-”

“You did good,” Airi repeats, sternly. “I’m proud of you. Which is why it’s gonna really suck when we crush you out there.”

Keina’s blood runs cold; her intuition proven to be right didn’t make it hurt any less. 

“Thought you said truce,” Keina recalls. 

“Didn’t say I’d lie. I told you, you should have gone to Shiratorizawa, cause only one team can win, and it’s gonna be us,” Airi warns, and just as she’s almost out of the restroom Keina remarks, “win like you did last year, right?”

Airi scoffs and Keina smiles, a small victory.

“Glad you watched me though,” Keina confesses, walking over to the door and pushing past Airi to open it slightly. “You can take notes, your serves are getting sloppy.”
