Lately, I've been learning to not take things for granted. I've been taking videos of my cats a bit more. Got a video today of me feeding June Bug and Tally, including bits of their meows
I deeply regret not having any record of the sound of Cassy's meow. I'm trying to make up for it with my girls, though.

The Great Assigning
Rapr week day 6: ROLESWAP.
Invaders Red and Purple are assigned their first mission by the delusional Almighty Tallest Zim.
Read on AO3.
The murmuring of the crowd sent flutters through Invader Red’s entire body. From the stage of the main hall on Conventia, the audience looked like a writhing ocean of swarming Irken soldiers. Thousands upon thousands of eyes watching them… and why? This event had come so suddenly, and he, among with his fellow Invader trainees, found themselves about to receive their first mission months before they even graduated.
It wasn’t his place to ask questions. The Almighty Tallest worked in mysterious ways.
“Did you see the curly fries they had at the cafeteria?” Purple leaned in to ask, “I hope the Assigning goes fast because those fries smelled delicious.”
Maybe all the attention from the bustling crowd had dampened his appetite, or maybe it was just the nerves, but he couldn’t imagine wanting curly fries right at this moment. “We’re about to be assigned the mission of our lifetime, and you’re thinking about food?”
“Every moment without fries in my mouth is a moment lost, Red!”
He didn’t get much of a chance to argue, because at that moment the Announcer announced the arrival of the Almighty Tallest. They both straightened back into attention. All Invaders, and the crowd behind them, wiggled their antennae as pillars of flame exploded upwards, reaching the high ceiling, the heat feeling like a punch to Red’s cheeks.
A loud, grating laughter filled the hall long before he caught a glimpse of the Tallest. It originated from a platform descending from the ceiling and there he was. His armor was the same shade of pink as the Invader uniform (a signal of the empire he dreamed to build, perhaps, or maybe it just matched his eyes?) and both arms raised, his face split by the eye-crinkling grin that he carried.
“I think the flamethrowers are a bit much”, Purple whispered.
The Almighty Tallest overall was... a bit much. But they didn’t get to have an opinion about that. “Shush!”
“Just sayin’.”
Red shushed again, more violently, just as the platform reached the ground. The Tallest, of course, didn’t, floating in place high above his subjects. As he should, being the All-knowing and All-powerful, Almighty Tallest.
“My Invaders!” he spoke. “We finally meet. Be amazed by my tallness!”
They stood taught under his gaze as it wandered between them. Being the Elite of the Elite was one thing, but none of them were as superior as the Almighty Tallest. Not even Purple or he, who towered over their peers and were the Best of the Elite of the Elite. The Tallest wore a satisfied smirk, as though what he saw was to his liking. Red really hoped so–he’d worked his entire life to get here!
“As you may know you’re all here to be assigned your first enemy planet”, the Tallest said. That much was obvious. They were Invaders, it was their job! Or… should be, if they had finished training. “This shall mark the first step of Operation Impending Doom Two! My most brilliant plan yet! HAHAHAHA-”
Impending Doom… Two? Red had never heard of an Impending Doom One.
Purple must have had the same thought, because he couldn’t stop himself from blurting, “What happened to the first one?”
“Oh, I had to cancel Operation Impending Doom One”, the Tallest waved his hand around. “The Invaders weren’t good enough. Bunch of old squeedgers to the blarbsnortch, yup. Lame. They died from just one stomp with my Megadoomer.”
“What?” Red said, and immediately realized his mistake.
“I had to stomp ‘em!” his Tallest said, looking more annoyed than anything. “Not good enough! But you… yes, you will not disappoint your Tallest Zim, will you?” A grin, one which made Red feel like he was prey being stared at by a predator, spread across his Tallest’s face. “No, you will not. I won’t allow it!”
Red glanced to his side to see how his co-Invaders reacted to this. He saw Purple’s throat bob as he swallowed, but even he seemed threatened enough to keep his big mouth shut. Of course, it wasn’t their place to question the Almighty Tallest, but…
He’d decided to personally kill the previous batch of Invaders. The world spun as Red searched his mind for reasons that they could have been dispatched. They couldn’t have been that much worse than the class currently standing on the stage of the Main Hall. In fact, those guys had actually graduated!
While Red’s entire class had suddenly been rushed out of school to attend this Assigning… filling up the vacant slots. It all started to make sense now.
The screen behind the Tallest lit up into a map, showing all known constellations and planets which were inhabitable or inhabited. Red recognized it immediately–he’d studied it every resting cycle for weeks to try to memorize which planets were marked for conquest and which ones weren’t. That was a test he was happy to not have to take.
“THIS is how the Assigning is going to work!” the Tallest exclaimed. A table rose from the floor, and he picked up a small object from it. “I am going to throw this dart on the map, and wherever it hits, one of you is sent to conquer. Ingenious, right? Yes, it is, because your brilliant Almighty Tallest came up with it!”
No one argued, but Red could feel the desperation spreading across his classmates. This was ridiculous.
Purple cleared this throat.
“My Tallest”, he began, head low and voice respectfully quiet, “I don’t mean to disrespect you, but can I ask why?”
A short beat of silence. It was enough for Red's brain to roar up with worst-case scenarios. The kinds of punishments Purple might endure for speaking up. What would he do if the only person he cared for got thrown into the depth of space?
“Because I think it’ll be neat!” the Tallest grinned.
Purple didn’t press further. The Almighty Tallest’s smile softened for a bit, satisfied at getting his point across.
“Step forward Invader Larb!”
And so Red watched the Invaders get assigned to enemy planets. Larb could barely hold back tears when he was assigned to Meekrob, despite having studied specifically the skills necessary to Invade Blorch or Vort. Skoodge was assigned to a sun, and when he pointed out that suns couldn’t really be invaded, the Tallest kicked him off the stage and laughed. Invader Tenn took it in stride when the dart landed on a planet that they actually had a peace treaty with.
“Invader Purple!”
“Hoo boy”, Purple sighed as he stepped forward, leaving Red alone as the last unassigned Invader.
The Tallest picked up a fittingly purple colored dart and inspected it, as though the dart itself held all the knowledge of the universe. Then he looked down at Purple and ficked it away. Not even looking at the map.
The dart hit the furthermost corner of the screen. Nothing existed even in the vicinity of that area. Purple stared at it.
“There’s nothing there, my Tallest”, he said.
“Hm?” Zim looked over. “Oh, right. Well! Go there and conquer the nothing!”
“... How, sir?”
“Eh? Not my problem!”
Red felt nothing but sympathy as Purple nodded and stepped back. So it was his turn. His Tallest called for him and he stepped forward. Up close the height difference felt much more pronounced. He craned his neck upwards to salute, and forced himself to not avert his eyes as his Tallest judged him, looked him up and down like a megadonut on display at Plumpin’ Donuts on Foodcourtia.
The Tallest reached for the table, but paused. “What? Where is my last dart?”
The table was empty, all darts apparently used, wedged into the digital map and no doubt ruining the screen.
“Hey! Who planned this?” The Tallest looked around as though one of them were to blame. “Someone miscalculated how many darts I would need!”
The Invaders all shuffled. No one dared to answer, and, of course, none of them had been involved in counting enough darts anyway.
The Almighty Tallest huffed. “Ugh. Useless. No matter! You!” He pointed at Red. ”Just go with the previous guy. Duo-mission. Yes. Crisis solved. By ZIM!”
Red blinked. Oh. He’d get to go with Purple. “Yes, my Tallest.” Before this Assigning, that would have felt wrong, but all things considered… it could have been worse.
He could have been told to conquer a sun.
His gaze wandered to the purple dart, placed right in a spot of dead space, with nothing for lightyears around it. At least he wouldn’t be alone.
The Almighty Tallest concluded the Assigning with a few inspirational (or maybe delusional) words to the Invaders, and then to the soldiers in the audience. They were dismissed, and Red hurried up to Purple’s side as they walked straight to the curly fries stand.
“What a shipwreck!” Purple said. For once Red didn’t scold him for the borderline critique of their Tallest’s decisions. He just hummed.
Faced with the prospect of having to travel to the corner of known space, allegedly to ‘conquer’ it, while not having had the chance to even properly graduate… Red didn’t want to think about it. Hopefully the guy who sold fries sold drinks too, because he was going to need it, by Irk.
Purple’s gloved fingers brushed past him, and he looked up. Ah yeah. That was the only upside, wasn’t it?
He’d have someone by his side.

With each passing day, it felt like you were getting closer towards the edge of the line.
In a dark tunnel, you stood there, wandering aimlessly towards the light that could not be even seen for miles and miles. An endless loop of nothingness, as the feeling of dread, terror, and fear consumes you from the hidden depths of your mind.
You hoped and wished that one day you could see even a tiny glimpse of what lies ahead of you. Wondering if there's more to it than the endless bloodshed and horrors you've seen hundreds of times now.
But then, suddenly, a warm entity started to walk alongside you. A feeling as warm as the bright rays of the morning sun, and an inexplicable feeling of something accompanying you on your endless journey.
Even when immersed in darkness, the underlying warmth seemed to radiate from that figure. There was a tinge of happiness in your harsh world that made the road to the unseen light seem less lonely than before.
However, with every step, the distant light gets dimmer and darker.
And the warm feeling beside you blazes into a raging, roaring, sea of fire.
The morning after you received the heartfelt letter from Tanjiro, word broke out that Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu had defeated Lower Moon One.
You were rejoiced to hear that your comrades had defeated another member of the Twelve Demon Moons. When you heard the news for the first time, you promptly darted to find the nearest pen and paper to congratulate the trio. However, you stopped dead in your tracks when your Kasugai Crow screeched out the status of the Hashira that the trio had accompanied.
Rengoku Kyojuro, the Flame Hashira, has died after an encounter with Upper Moon Three.
Your eyes were as big as saucers, as you stood there in shock. You couldn't believe what you were hearing. Upper Moon 3? Hashira? Dead?
You've never really had a proper conversation with the Flame Hashira, but you've had high respects for him. The way he would hold his sword with pride and his never-ending sense of justice would always bring hope to you and your fellow slayers. You could still remember the words of encouragement he would say every time he would have encountered the lower ranks like you.
"Always set your heart ablaze!"
Hearing about the death of such an important figure in the Demon Slayer Corps made you tighten your jaw. Your hand clenches at the thought of someone so kind and strong had died of such a painful death. You inhaled tiny and long breaths as you try to calm yourself down from the frustration rising in your veins.
He would've wanted his death to inspire the Demon Slayers to fight harder, and you will. His fate will not be in vain as long as the Demon Slayer Corps will continue fighting on.
If you feel angry, you could only imagine as to how Tanjiro felt. Knowing the boy, he would've befriended and had grown attached to the fallen Hashira. Your face contorted into one of sadness. He would be distraught, seeing the Flame Hashira die in front of his very eyes.
You glanced at the paper and the pen at the corner of your vision, and decided to write to the Hanafuda-clad slayer. You went to grab the items and sat down to start writing your letter.
You couldn't be there to physically comfort him, you were too far away. You prayed that this letter would suffice, as you could not do anything more to console the Burgundy-haired boy.
--
Tanjiro made his way back towards the Butterfly Estate, after visiting the Rengoku Estate to deliver Kyojuro-san's final wishes. He gazed at the katana guard that was given to him by Senjoru, Kyojuro-san's little brother. He sighs sadly at the thought of the Flame Hashira, his words echoing in his mind.
"Live on and set your heart ablaze!"
Breathing out softly, his Crimson-hues looks upwards to the sky, staring at the moving clouds high above.
"CAW! A MESSAGE! A MESSAGE FOR KAMADO TANJIRO!"
"Yaah!" Tanjiro yells out in surprise at his crow's loud screeching, but his expression brightened at the sight of a letter attached to it's legs. He then puts his arm out to let the crow land on it.
"Thank you!" He affectionately pats the head of the crow, and proceeds to take the letter placed delicately on it's legs. The crow screeches once more, and takes off.
Tanjiro looks at the crow flying away, and returns his gaze towards the letter in his hands. He reads the message written in it, and can't help a smile forming from his lips.
"What can be done, is for us to not let it define our days to come. We can choose to heal, whilst bearing the scars, whether alone or with someone precious.
For as long as you want me to, I will be here for you."
I read that somewhere, but I couldn't remember where, hehe.
I'm sorry for what happened. I can't imagine what you're feeling, but I will always be here for you. Rengoku-san will not be forgotten, and he will always live in our hearts and memories.
Be kind to yourself, Tanjiro. You mean the whole world to me.
- [ L / N ] [ Y / N ]
Tanjiro chuckles softly at the letter, and holds it close to his chest. He sniffles as he flutters his eyes close, the corners of his mouth turning up into a thankful grin.
"Thank you, [ Y / N.]"
--
Months pass, another mission comes by after the completion of another mission. As the weeks gone by, you could find yourself growing stronger each passing day.
During your time apart, you and Tanjiro would often exchange letters. Usually, it was him describing his missions in full detail and how Zenitsu and Inosuke were doing as they worked alongside with each other. Every now and then, little scratches and odd pen marks will decorate the surface of the paper, which you could only assume is Nezuko's doing.
You, on the other hand, would also write about your missions. Occasionally, you would tell him about random stuff, little things on your mind as you go about your day.
One thing remains constant, though. The two of you would always end a letter with a heartfelt sentence that became your little way of saying "I love you" for each other.
"You mean the whole world to me."
Today, me, Inosuke, and Zenitsu went to Yoshiwara with Uzui-san. He basically forced us to come with him, because he wouldn't stop harassing the poor girls back at the Butterfly Estate if we didn't go. He said he was looking for his three wives, as they stopped contacting him after going undercover to find a demon in the district. Can you believe it? Three wives?!
When we arrived, Uzui-san immediately dressed us up as girls and we were sent off to brothels where we could hopefully find the demon causing havoc in the area. Honestly, I'm kind of glad that you weren't here to see me. Not because I don't want you to be with me, no no no! I actually miss you so much and I just want see you again and I just-
It's because I looked absolutely ridiculous! Seriously, it was a miracle that I was able to pass up as a girl!
Anyway, it's my first night here, and so far, there's no sign of a demon. There's been rumors going around about young women suddenly committing suicide without explanation. There's something fishy going on around here, that's for sure.
I'm going to end my letter here. Tomorrow's another day, and we will do our best to make this mission a success.
Stay safe, [ Y / N ].
You mean the whole world to me.
- Kamado Tanjiro
Of course, there were moments where you were worried sick for the boy. When news broke out that the Sound Pillar and the trio defeated Upper Moon 6 in the Red Light District, you were absolutely ecstatic. Another Upper Moon had been slain, and you couldn't be more proud  for the trio.
That is, until Tanjiro abruptly stopped sending letters.
During those moments, you could only send letters to the Butterfly Estate, asking about Tanjiro's health and condition. You tried not to get your emotions get the best you, but you couldn't help it. Not when Tanjiro was laying in a bed, unconscious, and out of your reach.
You found comfort of the letters that replied to you. Kanao, the Butterfly Pillar's Tsuguko, started writing back to you, and kept you up-to-date of Tanjiro's well-being that would soothe your anxious nerves. You were thankful for her, as she would always write back to you every night without fail.
Gradually, you began to get to know her, and eventually thought of her as a friend. Since she was a little shy, you gladly told her about your days and endless missions, and maybe a little bit of jokes and puns to lighten up her day.
It wasn't long too until she started talking about the things she liked, like how she enjoys blowing soap bubbles and considers it a hobby. She would also talk about how she likes sweets and accessories, squishing cat paws and helping with the cooking at the Butterfly Estate.
Who knew, that the girl who wrecked you mercilessly during your Rehabilitation training was actually such a lovely and adorable girl who enjoyed the little things in life?
When Tanjiro finally recovered, you never stopped sending letters to Kanao. She was a fun pen pal and a friend to have, because she would listen to each time you would either rant about your day or just say some dumb puns when you're too bored to function.
One day, Tanjiro told you that he was going to the Swordsmith Village to ask for a replacement for his sword. That night, he spoke of how the Love Pillar and the Mist Pillar were present in the village, and how he had the chance of speaking to Genya Shinazugawa, the Wind Pillar's younger brother.
For days on end, the Crimson-eyed slayer would tell you about a training doll that mimicked the strongest Demon Slayer who ever lived. He would rant endlessly, telling you about a swordsmith who trained him to the bone without food and water. He told you, one day, he accidentally smashed the doll into pieces, revealing a worn and old sword hidden inside of it.
You snickered, and you could already hear Tanjiro's voice, which was loaded with panic and anxiety, just by reading the contents of his letters.
You were pleasantly shocked the next day, when your Crow announced the news of the deaths of Upper Moon Five and Upper Moon Four.
Tanjiro was like a magnet for the Upper Moons, and you can't help but feel a heavy sensation in the depths of your stomach.
It felt like the calm before the storm, as after Tanjiro's experience in the Swordsmith Village, there was a rapid decline in Demon activity all across the country.
--
However, it seemed like the crow didn't exactly tell you everything regarding the Village's aftermath.
After what seemed like forever, you made your way back to the Butterfly Estate. Since demons have not been running all over the place, there weren't as much many missions as there was before. Your crow yelled at you to go back to the estate, but hey, you weren't complaining about that.
You couldn't contain the excitement, a giddy expression ever present on your face. Each step brought you closer to your destination, and as the Estate finally presented itself to your vision, you practically skipped your way in order to reach the area faster.
You heard shouting in the distance. There were cries of panic, seemingly asking someone to come back. You didn't stop your hurried pace, but your eyes widened in both joy and shock when you saw the familiar raven locks of your demon friend, who was now running towards you at full speed.
In broad daylight.
"[ Y/N ]! [ Y/N ]! [ Y/N ]!" Nezuko cries out in joy, jumping at you with all of her strength. You couldn't react on time as she lands on you, and the both of you tumbled to the ground. She was hugging you, a hand affixed on top of your head, patting it relentlessly.
"Oof! Hi, Nezuko!" You laughed at her antics, and hugged her back without hesitation.
You were confused, that's for sure. Even though you were absolutely overjoyed to see your friend, your mind was screaming confused thoughts on how on earth she was able to hug you underneath the blazing sun. Not only that, she was not wearing her usual bamboo muzzle and she spoke your name! She actually spoke! Her voice was absolutely adorable!
"Welcome back!" She cheered happily, and you already feel yourself melt into a puddle at how cute she was acting. She continued to nuzzle onto you, and you felt a sense of pride knowing that an incredibly cute and sweet girl was aggressively showering you with love and affection.
"EH?! [ Y / N ]'S BACK! SHE'S BACK!" You snapped your head to the source, and beamed at the sight of Zenitsu calling out to the residents of the estate, signalling your arrival.
"It's nice to see you again, Zenitsu!" You called out and waved at him, a bright smile present on your face. You couldn't really move, not when Nezuko wasn't done hugging you and spoiling you rotten with her affection.
Zenitsu's eyes widened for a second, until he began jumping around and screaming out a series of chants like the madman he is.
"REALLY? IT'S REALLY NICE TO SEE ME AGAIN?! AW! DON'T FLATTER ME, [ Y / N ]! YOU SHOULD'VE TOLD ME BEFORE THAT YOU HELD ME IN SUCH A HIGH REGARD! YOU KNOW, IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO ASK FOR MY HAND IN MARRIAGE!"
Your smile began to fade, and you could look at him with utter dismay as he proceeded to yell out nonsense.
But then, a familiar voice calls out. The voice that you've yearned to hear for months, as it makes your heart skip a beat as it gets louder and closer.
Tanjiro comes out from the estate, looking around frantically, a desperate expression evident in his gentle features. He looks at your direction and he goes stiff as a statue the moment he locks eyes with you. His eyes began to water, his lower lip quivering from the sight of you.
He races up to you, rivaling with the pace Nezuko had when she assaulted you. Instantaneously, he engulfs you in his loving embrace, and you couldn't hold back your giggles and laughter as he proceeded to wreak havoc on your face with little kisses.
Nezuko lets out a sound of pleasure and releases her hold on you. She watched her brother as he coddled you with so much attention, and she clapped happily at the sight.
After what seemed like ages, Tanjiro stopped attacking your face with kisses and raised a hand to softly caress your cheek. His crimson-hues looked at you with so much passion and adoration, and you gazed at him lovingly in reciprocation.
Slowly he leans in to you, his forehead brushing yours. The corners of his mouth are pulled up, a ridiculously goofy expression adoring his features. You could feel the blood rushing to your cheeks because of the close proximity to his face, but still, you gave him the biggest grin you could muster up.
He chuckles and closes his eyes, nuzzling on you as he holds you in his arms protectively.
"I missed you. So, so much." He breathes out, and you giggle as his warm breath fans your flushed face.
"I missed you too, you big baby." You fluttered your [ E / C ] close, holding him tight and not wanting to let go.
After months of hardship, stress, and pain, you find yourself once again welcomed by your home and your world.
You spent the next few days roaming around the estate, with Tanjiro beside you, holding your hand at every moment. Not just that, you've got to spend time in the garden with Nezuko again! Only this time, you were accompanied by the presence of Zenitsu, Inosuke, and even Kanao!
Each day was filled with laughter and joy. Even when the Hashiras decided to train every slayer in harsh training routines, your happiness never faded. Given the sweat and soreness of your muscles as you shift from one Hashira to another, you would always be rewarded with the sight of the bright stars shining brightly over all of you.
But one day, that happiness seemed to fade away. The devastation and cruelty that you had faced before came back from the ashes of the past, as each second escalated into the catastrophic hell that you were now forced to face.
One night, every Hashira unexpectedly went on a high alert. You couldn't understand what was going on, and you were even more perplexed when Tanjiro suddenly asked you to stay alert and left in a haste. You stood beside the campfire, confused, and you couldn't control the familiar feeling of dread swallowing you up again.
Your instinct was telling you that something terrible and unprecedented was about to happen. Your heart was thumping uncontrollably on your chest, as you started to sweat and tremble from the overwhelming feeling of uncertainty that made shivers run up to your spine.
Unfortunately, your fears were confirmed when a loud explosion was heard in the distance.
You gasped, as you felt the ground suddenly disappear. You couldn't respond quickly, your mind spinning out of control as you fell down to a fortress filled with demons that seemed to stretch out forever.
You breath hitched as you came back to your senses. You looked around, trying to find something or somewhere that could end your endless free fall. You felt a sense of hope as an area where you could land safely came into view. Your eyebrows were knit together, mouth clenching as you performed a breathing technique and landed swiftly at the edge of the structure.
The moment you landed, demons started to flock towards you. Your blood began to boil, rage rapidly overcoming you. You unsheathed out your sword, tightened your grip on the handle, and immediately slashed your way through the hordes of demons. It was then you realized, that it was the beginning of the end, and that it was going to be a long night.
In a blink of an eye, smiles turned into anger, laughter turned into screams, as what was once happiness was now destroyed and replaced by rage and anguish.
And whenever happiness is destroyed,
There's always the smell of blood.
--
Hours of endless bloodshed. Thousands upon thousands of casualties had rained upon the ranks of the Demon Slayer Corps. You had seen the brutal fighting with your very own eyes, and the rage only intensified with each life taken by the hands of those ruthless demons.
The Twelve Demon Moons had perished. But at the cost of their heads, were the lives of your mentors, comrades, and friends.
However, it finally seemed like their sacrifices were not in vain.
The sun had risen, and Muzan Kibutsuji howled out in pain as the sun's fiery rays started to burn him. He had taken the form of a large, hideous baby, as he desperately tries to hide away from the sun's burning gaze.
Almost everybody was severely injured; there were severed limbs, large gashes, and heavily bleeding wounds.
Despite the overwhelming pain, the remaining slayers continued to fight on, too high on adrenaline and determination in order to bring Muzan to his demise. Everybody held on, performing everything they could do to make the Demon King roast under the sunlight and suffer for his crimes.
Right now, you were driving a bus, speeding towards the crawling abomination. You slammed on the pedals, accelerating at full speed as you rammed into the enormous, yet horrific excuse of a baby.
"Stay down, you bastard!" You yelled out, a dangerous glint twinkling in your eyes as you couldn't help the sides lips tugging up into smug smirk.
You jumped out of the vehicle right before a big hand smashed the front portion, as a voice commands you and nearby Kakushi to push the back portion to block Muzan from moving further. You all gathered together and pushed with all your remaining strength, yells of determination echoing out to stop Muzan from going further.
Your eyes widen as a large hand rises, but before he could smash you all into pieces, the Wind Pillar successfully cut off it's hand on time. You all continued to push, but Muzan was starting to overpower you all and was slowly going over the vehicle.
Then, you heard the loud clank of chains, and saw the monster stumble back as a large chain had wrapped itself on the demon's neck, forcing him to stay in place. You all moved out, and went to the Stone Pillar, aiding him by holding him in place as he uses all his power to grip unto the chains in order to pin the beast down. Muzan hollered out, as he continued to burn under the sun.
Determined to find shade and escape death, the huge monstrosity resorted to dig himself into the earth. The Hashiras then took turns attacking the abomination, attempting to wear off its stamina. All hope seemed lost, as the chains, and all of your energy rapidly depleted as Muzan continued his struggle.
Then, against all odds, the demon throws his head back in a final, ear piercing scream. Gigantic tears fell down from it's hideous face, and after what seemed like eternity, it's body finally crumbled into nothingness.
There was a pause. You all held your breath, the heavy tension in the air suffocating you all. Disbelief was evident on your faces, as you could not properly process what had just gone down.
Then, you all erupted into loud yells of victory.
Muzan is dead. The Demon Slayers had won.
You all cried out in happiness. Centuries of battle, bloodshed, and death finally bearing its fruit. Everyone embraced each other, beaming smiles present in every slayer's face as the shouts of triumph echoed across the battlefield.
"It's not over yet!" A Kakushi yells out, "Stand up! Treat the wounded! Don't cry, you fools, stay focused! We can save them!" You all looked around, and saw the bodies of several Hashira and Demon Slayers slumped up all around. The celebration ceased as everybody started to scatter; newly found strength flooding them as they sought out to save the heavily injured.
In your peripheral vision, you saw Kanao hunched up and unconscious, and she was being tended by several Kakushi. You ran up to her, and your jaw clenched as you observed the injuries and blows she had taken. You kneeled down, and asked for one of them for bandages so you could help patch up your friend.
As you started to wrap up some of Kanao's injuries, lilac hues started to flutter open. She takes a moment to look at her surroundings, and when she sees you and a few Kakushi patching her up, her lips formed a small yet grateful smile.
"...Thank you."
Your eyes darted to look up to the voice, you gasped in relief and your expression brightened as Kanao weakly gives you a wry smile.
You stared at her, the corners of your mouth tugging up and your eyes flickering with gratitude. After wrapping her wounds, you gently took her hand and encased it with your own.
"We won, Kanao." You whispered. Shutting your eyes close, you recalled the memories of how hard she fought against Muzan, along with Zenitsu, Inosuke, and the Hashiras. The ravenette just paused, and her mouth falling open as she was reflecting on what you had just told to her. Then, she breathes out in delight, and slowly raised her other hand to caress your own. Kanao's whole face lit up, and she beams at you, nodding her head in appreciation.
But then, suddenly, in the corner of her vision, something captures Kanao's attention. She stiffened, and her hand started to tremble under your gentle hold. Her forehead furrowed and she struggled to find her voice.
" [ Y - Y / N ]-chan..!"
You opened your [ E / C ] eyes, and glanced at your friend's facial features. You grew concerned, trying to make sense as to why she was shaking and sweating so much. Then, loud shouts began to echo and you felt a heavy sensation start to enclose your chest. You started to tremble, the loud yells becoming more frantic by each second. The feeling of dread returned, seemingly to taunt you as goosebumps rapidly washed over you. The girl returned her attention to your bewildered expression, her lilac orbs filled with worry and regret.
You hesitantly turned around and looked to where Kanao had her gaze on to figure out the source of her behavior. Instantaneously, your eyebrows elevated, a hand immediately clasping your mouth. Your eyes welled up in tears and the cries of distress escaped away as you stomached in the scene before you.
You stared ahead to meet the figure of your beloved Tanjiro.
But he didn't look like your Tanjiro.
A beast roared out, screaming and assaulting any being that was attempting to get close to him. You saw a glimpse of Zenitsu and Inosuke trying to hold back your transformed lover, the Water Pillar frantically yelling orders not get close to the boy, but to no avail.
It felt like the whole world had shattered right before your very eyes. You struggled to swallow back the bile rising to your throat, your breathes becoming more erratic as the hot tears endlessly fall from your eyes. You become absolutely racked with sobs, the heavy feeling on your chest intensifying to the point of suffocating you.
"Stop crying!"  You mentally scold yourself. "Now is not the time to cry! You have to help! You have to save him!"
But you couldn't move. You couldn't speak. You couldn't do anything but wail out in absolute heartbreak as Tanjiro further succumbed into hysteria.
No matter how hard you tried, your feet were glued to the ground. Your mind hurled insults, screaming at you to step forward, to run, and try to save your beloved. You could only look up to the heavens, reciting a silent prayer pleading to every Deity who was listening to stop this madness.
In the midst of your emotional turmoil, you have flashes of what once was. You recall how Tanjiro would hold you in moments of peace, how his eyes would fill up with tenderness and love whenever you locked eyes with him, and how his beaming smile seemed to brighten up even your darkest days.
Your heart continues to pound painfully in your chest as you gasp out endless incoherent breathes. You could hear his loving voice resonate in your head, your cries becoming more erratic at the thought that you could never hear his warmth-filled sound again.
"You mean the whole world to me, [ Y / N ]."
You could only look helplessly as the now human Nezuko began to cry out to her corrupted brother, holding him in place so that he could no longer hurt more people. Tanjiro continued to screech and thrash in the sister's grasp, his screams releasing powerful waves of energy that would blowed away anyone who had even dared to come near him.
Zenitsu and Inosuke were swept away by the strong shockwaves, but Nezuko never weakened her grasp, as she continues to hold on to her brother desperately. Tanjiro dropped down, the sound of the tearing cloth ringing around as massive and sharp tentacles exploded out of his back. Zenitsu cries out, terror overtaking his face as he desperately reaches out to save Nezuko.
But something still puzzles you. Your stomach still twisted at the sight of Nezuko bleeding, but what was perplexing was that Tanjiro declined to bite his sister. Even though he had a taste of his sister's blood, he resisted and refused to attack her.
Maybe, just maybe, your Tanjiro was still there, fighting to break free from his eternal prison.
"[ Y / N ]-chan." Kanao calls out. You snap out of you emotional daze and faced the girl. She looked at you with a hopeful expression, and she takes out a small box from her belt.
"We can still save him..." She starts, opening the box to reveal an injection. "My master gave this to me, and she said that this is medicine made out of Wisteria flowers that could turn demons back into humans."
Kanao coughs up blood, her face scrunching up as she groans out in discomfort. She stumbles forward because of the pain, and you instantly hold her to prevent her from falling to the ground. She looks up to you, and gives you a sad smile.
"Tanjiro turned into a demon just now. Even if I could evade his attacks with one eye, my injuries could get the best of me." She coughs again, placing a hand to her re-opened wound on her waist. She takes your hand and places the injection on it.
"There's still time, [ Y / N ]. Tanjiro loves you too much to even raise a hand at you."
You looked down at the injection, your eyes filled with renewed determination. You nodded in agreement, then took long breaths to calm yourself down. You knew what you needed to do, and now, you could save him.
You wiped the trails of dried tears on your face, eyebrows drewn together as your expression hardened. Tightening your grip on the object, you stood up and turned around to confront Tanjiro.
"Thank you." You breathed out, forever grateful to Kanao for giving you this oppurtunity.
You inhaled deeply, oxygen rapidly flooding your veins. You could feel your muscles become stronger each second, as adrenaline fills you once more. Bursts of energy traveled all across your body, giving you the courage and power you needed to pull this off. You focused your strength on your legs, and in a flash, you dashed towards your lover.
"Tanjiro.."
The demon takes notice of a presence rapidly approaching him. He growls and turns his attention towards you. Scowling, he screeches loudly, tentacles aggressively whipping around at all angles to attack you.
"When this is all over, let's make our own world,"
You looked up to meet his eyes, and you were with scarlet ones, which were filled with hatred and rage. Your breathe hitches momentarily as a shiver ran up to your spine.
"A world where no one could tears us apart."
Tanjiro had never looked at you with such hostility before. However, you didn't let that faze you as you continuously dodged his never ending assaults against you.
"Enough is enough, Tanjiro."
You jumped and evaded the whips his tentacles threw at you. Then, an opening presents itself, your eyes dilating and you bolted even closer until you came face to face with the demon.
"You musn't make Nezuko cry."
Tanjiro howls out loudly, and he raises a hand with the intent to smash you. You quickly caught the glimpse of his clenched fist, and you leapt, avoiding his arm as it plunged downwards with such speed and strength.
"Come back to us, and you won't be ever lost again,"
You swore everything looked like it was in slow motion. In that moment, a bright light engulfed your surroundings. Your body flew above the demon, and when his back came into full view, you immediately pushed the cure into him. Tears shone in your [ E / C ] orbs, as a love-filled smile appeared on your features.
You didn't even feel the pain when a rouge tentacle managed to successfully pierce itself into you. Your tender gaze never left the boy, and you finally breathed out in relief. You fluttered your eyes close, and you tumbled helplessly against the surface.
"You are the whole world to me."
"[ Y / N]!" Nezuko calls out to you, her face contorted into one of pure horror as she watches your body make harsh contact with the ground.
Suddenly, Tanjiro stops moving. His tentacles ceased it's assaults, and slowly, but surely, it retreats back into his body. The boy to started to shake uncontrollably, exhaling out heavy breathes as his eyes trembled wildly as he stares at the sight of your injured body.
With all the remaining strength you could muster up, you looked up to the demon. Instead of the hatred and rage you had saw moments ago, Tanjiro's Scarlet-hues were filled with regret. Tears ran down his cheeks, sadness clouding over his demonic features.
You inhaled softly, and with each passing moment, you saw his eyes slowly turn back into the Crimson colored orbs that you loved so much. As seconds pass by, your vision began to darken. Exhaling out in exhaustion, you felt thankful that you get to see a glimpse of your Tanjiro once more. You heard loud shouts resound through the field, feeling something tending to your wounds before your sight was further consumed by darkness as you fell into unconsciousness.
--
" -Ma..?"
" -Ma!"
"Mama!"
You jolt up in surprise, trying to catch your breath as cold sweat falls down from the side of your face.
You take a moment to observe your surroundings, and you could find yourself sitting in a bench that was located at an open lake. Sakura trees were abundant, and their beauty was obviously not overlooked as pink blossoms flew around with the cool spring breeze. Flora was flourishing all over, and the sounds of the little animals living in the lake was prominent.
A nightmare? You thought. Sighing deeply, you let yourself fall back in the bench where you were sitting on. A small hand shakes on your own frantically, as you turned your head and smiled softly as a gigantic pair of eyes, clearly filled with worry, gazed into your own.
"I'm sorry, Takeo. Did Mama scare you?" You chuckled, as the child in front of you pouts and crosses his arms over his chest.
"Stop dozing off like that! I was really worried when you started to cry in your sleep again!" Takeo exclaims out, puffing out his cheeks as he stomped on his foot in annoyance.
You laughed at his antics, your melodic voice echoing across the peaceful lake. You leaned forward and raised a hand to gently pat your son's head. The boy looked almost the same as you, seeing as he inherited your complexion, your facial features, and even your [H / C] hair.
There was one thing, though, that distinguished him from looking like a complete carbon copy of you.
He had Crimson colored eyes that he inherited from his father.
Takeo continues to huff out in annoyance, but he couldn't fight the flush rising up to his face from your act of affection towards him. Whether he was going to deny it or not, it was an irrefutable fact that he loved getting his head pats. As you observed Takeo's features, you felt warmth and tenderness embracing your chest. You pulled your hand away from his head and just chuckled at his failed attempts of trying to look angry at you.
"Papa asked me to fetch you, ya know.." Takeo mumbles, his Crimson-orbs looking away from you in embarrassment. "He says that Aunt Nezuko and Uncle Zenitsu are coming over today, along with Uncle Inosuke and Aunt Kanao. He figured that you would be glad to see them again."
"I see." You whispered. Your mouth slowly into a grin, and you nodded gratefully. You felt excitement and joy bubble up in you, as you beamed brightly to your son. "Thank you, Takeo. I'm absolutely delighted to hear that they're coming to visit today."
Slowly, you stood up from the bench, one hand holding on your son's arm for support and the other caressing your swollen belly. You looked up to the heavens, eyes sparkling with gratitude as a thankful sigh escaped from your lips. You shifted your attention away from the blue sky, and softly held your son's hand as you began your way back home.
"Let's go home, shall we?"
Once upon a dream, you never thought the possibility of true love coming to you all your life.
Growing up in a demon infested world, life seemed to be fond of throwing you into hardships and struggle. Despite the horrors of the world, you always persevered. For every challenge that has been hurled towards you, the tribulations have only made you grow stronger and better.
Your life may had started out roughly, but that doesn't mean that it did not change for the better. The endless bloodshed had become relics of the past, moments of time that helped shape the world as it is now.
Recalling those moments of uncertainty, the rays of sunlight peeking through what was once the dark and gloomy clouds had now completely engulfed your life with warmth and tenderness. What you once wanted to experience all those years ago, has now become your reality. The little bits of happiness that you yearned for, now held onto you, never wanting to leave any time soon.
As you get closer to your home, you could hear the voices of children laughing and playing. Soon, you saw a glimpse of your humble abode, and little kids that looked similarly to you and your husband came into view. Takeo releases his hold on you, and he excitedly makes his way towards his siblings. Your expression brightened, a permanent smile present on your face as you took in the sight of your children frolicking around with happiness evident in their faces.
Then, a warm hand snakes over your waist, pulling you towards a broad chest that belonged to your lover. You couldn't contain your giggles as your face was immediately assaulted by small pecks and kisses. His hanafuda earrings seemed to ring each time he moved his head, his long ponytail swaying alongside with the cool breeze. His crimson-eyes gleamed in adoration as he gazes into your own, an adorable grin affixed in his lips as he continued to lock you in his protective embrace.
Sakura petals flew all around, encasing your surroundings with a sense of peace and serenity. After years of struggle, you can finally wake up in the morning without the likelihood of a horrible and painful death looming over you, as your cruel and dark world was now behind you.
Those dark days were long over. Now that you had finally avenged your family and the numerous deaths Muzan Kibutsuji has inflicted upon humanity, you could finally spend the rest of your life in peace.
Now, you had finally found a place to call your home. With him, you had created a whole new world. A world that was overflowing with love and happiness. Now that he would always stay by your side, you won't have to be lost anymore.
Tanjiro lifts up a hand to softly caress your cheek, gazing at you with so much love and adoration. The corners of his mouth quirked up as he fluttered his eyes close and slowly leaned forward. Your expression softened, and you chuckled softly as you put your arms around his shoulders. Your eyelids close shut as you felt your chest swell up with so much emotion, as his lips finally captured yours into a love-filled kiss.
"You are the whole world to me, [ Y / N]."

It had been a week since they had gone to the dungeon, or was it a few days? Neva couldn't remember at this point. All the days seemed to blur together. The day after they had gotten back they were sent to visit the Wizard King, Julius Novachrono, and she had to admit he wasn’t what she was expecting. He was a total magic nerd, it was quite amusing. But she couldn’t shake the feeling she had met him before, many years ago, she had pushed that thought away when she figured it was because she had seen him walk through the Capital on occasion. Then the Capital was attacked by the undead and she ran into someone she really didn’t want to see ever again.
Neva sighed as she created more spiked Diamond pillars to pierce the undead with, she had been quite proud of herself at that, she didn’t want to use any of her close range weapons and didn’t have many long range spells, so this was quite the achievement. She was only able to make the spikes come through the ground but hey, she’d take anything at this point. Neva had created a dome around some civilians she was protecting but she knew it wouldn’t hold much longer and the dead just. kept. coming.
“ Why couldn’t all of you have just stayed dead?!” She shouted when suddenly, she saw at least half of the undead be sliced through with spacial magic. ‘No. No way, why is he here?!’ Neva thought with dread, she looked up to her right and saw the one person she disliked the most. Langris Vaude. Vice-Captain of the Golden Dawn. He was smirking down at her as usual, and all she could do was glare up at him.
“ Need a hand?” He asked before using another spell to get rid of the rest of the undead. Neva huffed before snapping her fingers to get rid of the Diamond Shell.
“ Here, this way should be safe now. If you all keep going this way, you should find some more magic knights that can help you escape.” Neva instructed, the people quickly thanked her before going into the direction she described. Langris floated down to her and walked over to her, his smug smirk on his face, she instantly rolled her eyes.
“ So, I heard the teacher's pet is in the dog house.” He commented, Neva glared at him and crossed her arms.
“ I heard you were in Kiten, looks like we were both wrong.” She snapped, causing Langris to scoff and place a hand on his hip.
“ Uh-huh, sure. Anyway, I also heard you explored your first dungeon. Congratulations.” Langris told her, she narrowed her eyes, knowing there was more. “ and you got your ass kicked by someone with the same magic as you, that’s gotta sting.” He added, there it was, Neva thought with a shake of her head.
“ Don’t you have more important places to be right now, Vice Captain?” Neva snapped as she began to walk past him, Langris grabbed her upper arm to stop her.
“ I do. But I thought I’d come and say hello to the teacher’s pet first, since y’know, the Captain gives you all sorts of special treatment.” Langris looked at her. “ You might want to be careful about how you stalk Captain Vangeance, before people begin to talk.” He added before letting her go and walking away.
Neva shook her head to clear away the memory that had been a horrible day. The Captain of the Crimson Lion Kings was found with his arm torn off, bleeding, and unresponsive. From what she had heard he was still alive, which was good, but it had made her angry that Captain Vangeance hadn’t been there to help. She stopped training for a moment as the memory popped into her head, unwanted.
Neva was beyond angry, she was livid. The Captain was supposed to be there, was supposed to help protect the city, but instead he left on ‘urgent business’, which she noticed he was doing a lot of recently. She walked into his office, not bothering to knock, and slammed her hands onto his desk.
“ What the hell Captain?! Where were you today!” She shouted. Vangeance looked at her calmly before leaning back in his seat.
“ As I told the Wizard King and everyone else; I was away on urgent business-.” He started before she cut him off.
“ Liar! You left us high and dry! What business was so urgent that you needed to leave us at that moment?!” She shouted again, she noticed a flash of annoyance in her Captains eyes before he leaned forward.
“ You’d best remember who you are speaking to, Neva. Unless you want to be reported for insubordination. Again.” He warned, she blushed and moved her hands off his desk and crossed them.
“ Apologies, Captain. But you’re always gone, and it’s always when something major happens.” She finished softly, she noticed a shift in his eyes, like his mood suddenly changed, it even felt like the mana had changed.
“ Are you accusing me of something Neva?” He asked in a dangerously low tone, Neva felt the hair on the back of her neck stand up and a chill run down her spine, her heart was beating rapidly in her chest, her palms began to sweat; she was terrified of the person in front of her. This wasn’t her Captain. This wasn’t the person she had known most of her life. This was someone else entirely. She swallowed the lump in her now dry throat before attempting to speak.
“ N-No sir I…” she paused, that’s exactly what she was doing, or at least, what it sounded like she was doing. “ I’m just worried about you Captain.” She added softly as she looked away, all the anger being replaced with defeat.
“ There’s nothing for you to worry about, I promise.” He told her softly before going back to his paperwork. “ Now if you don’t mind, I have some work I need to finish.” He added, effectively ending the conversation. Neva nodded before turning around and walking away.
“ Oh one more thing; it’d be wise if you stopped stalking me whenever I am in the base. Rumors are being circulated and people are starting to get the wrong idea, and I’d like for all of it to be squashed before it reaches other squads' ears.” He told her, Neva only nodded and closed the door behind her.
“ Dammit!” She shouted as she accidently sent a sharp diamond blade soaring through the air, effectively cutting off a tree limb. Neva leaned forward, placing her hands on her knees, sweat was almost pouring off her in buckets at this point. She was so angry and so frustrated this was the only way she could think of to get rid of it. If she had stopped and looked to her left, she would have noticed three people watching her from afar.
“ S-Should we get her to stop? She’s going to be completely drained at this point.” Mimosa asked with uncertainty, she, Yuno, and Klaus had been watching her for the past hour. She had been trying to either work on her armor spell, or long range offensive spells. Klaus shrugged.
“ I’m not sure, I mean, we might accidentally get caught in the crossfire.” He said, uncertain himself. He looked over as Yuno sighed next to him.
“ I’ll go over there then.” He stated in his usual monotone voice. He even had to admit, he was worried about her, he only knew her for a few months but in those months he felt like he knew what kind of person she was and this was not her.
“ Wait a second; let her get a few more spells done then you can talk to her.” Mimosa whispered, as though Neva could hear them, and she looked over at Klaus. “ By the way, what’s the deal with her and Langris? From what I heard, they were at each other's throats during the invasion.” Yuno looked over at Klaus as well, he was very curious about it too even if he wouldn’t admit it.
“ Well, Langris used to be Neva’s mentor-.” Klaus started before Mimosa gasped in shock and even Yuno looked surprised.
“ Seriously?! The Vice Captain was Neva’s mentor!” Klaus nodded.
“ Yes but please don’t interrupt. He was her mentor for two weeks before the Captain decided it would be best if they no longer worked together, from what I remember, they almost killed each other.” Klaus stated before turning back to watch Neva. She seemed to be all tired out. “ I think you can go talk to her now.” He added, Yuno nodded before walking over to her.
Neva was trying to catch her breath when she heard footsteps approach, she looked over and saw it was Yuno. She smirked.
“ Are we being sent on a mission?” She panted, she hadn’t realized how out of breath she actually was until she stood up straight, she looked over at him and saw him shake his head.
“ No. I was just wanting to make sure you were ok.” Yuno told her honestly, she shrugged a bit.
“ I’m fine. No need to worry.” She muttered, clearly, Yuno wasn’t buying it as he pointed to the tree that was missing a limb.
“ I think that tree would disagree with you.” Neva looked and was very thankful her pale face was already red from training.
“ Yeah, that spell got away from me.” She admitted before looking at him. “ Are you going to the star festival tonight?” She asked, changing the subject.
“ Yeah, and so are you.” Yuno told her, not missing that she was trying to change the subject. He watched her eyebrows raise in surprise.
“ Who says I am? You’re not the boss of me!” Neva argued as she crossed her arms. Yuno nodded before turning around.
“ I know. But I think it’d be good for you. All of us don’t get to hang out outside of missions very much, besides, if I’m being forced to go against my will so are you.” He told her before walking away, the first part about them all hanging out was what Mimosa told him to say, whereas the end was what he wanted to tell her. Plus, Yuno wanted to get to know Neva better, but he wasn’t going to tell anyone that.
“ Who does he think he is? Telling me what to do.” Neva grumbled as she followed behind him, if she wanted to go then she would, if she didn’t then she’d stay home. ‘Buuut,’ that little voice in her head started. ‘It gives you the chance to get to know him better!’ The little voice whispered, Neva smirked to herself, she was finally agreeing with the stupid voice for once!
——
Neva couldn’t stop grumbling that night. After her talk with Yuno she left and took a bath, cleaned up, and was ready to go by the time the others were. She had to admit, the Star Festival was one of her favorite things about the city; good food, good music, games, it was pretty nice. The only thing she didn’t like was the stares people gave them because of their Golden Dawn robes. It made her uncomfortable. Some of the looks these noble people gave them just irritated her, it was like they were looking at them as their own private security or something. She huffed a bit.
“ Something wrong?” Yuno asked as he turned to her, she shook her head, Mimosa and Klaus had wandered off some time ago so now it was just the two of them and it made her very nervous. Even if she didn’t show it.
“ No, it’s just the stares. I don’t like them.” She muttered, Yuno tilted his head a bit before shrugging.
“ Ignore them. They’re not worth your time and energy.” He told her bluntly, she looked at him in surprise before a small smirk appeared on her face.
“ Easy for you to say, you’re amazing with your magic and everyone knows it, you even have a four leaf grimoire. So they don’t give you the same looks as me and the others.” She muttered, Yuno looked at her with a confused look.
“ You’re amazing with your magic too. You should really stop putting yourself down so much, you’re one of the few people that actually has an armor spell. Something like that takes time, hard work, and dedication. You know your magic inside and out, you know what it’s made of, how it works, and what your limits are. Not everyone can say that.” Yuno stopped in his tracks as he spoke. Neva couldn’t stop the small blush from appearing on her face, she wasn’t very used to receiving compliments from anyone other than the Captain so it was a little surprising.
“ Please stop trying to make me feel better. It’s not going to work.” She muttered, looking away from him. Yuno stepped closer to her and had the most serious look on his face.
“ I’m not. I’m just being honest.” He told her deadpan, Neva couldn’t help but let out a small laugh before she looked up at him, well, she looked around him. Something caught her eye and her face instantly lit up.
“ Ooh a desert stall!” She almost squealed as she quickly ran around him and to the stall, Yuno blinked in surprise. ‘What the hell?’ He turned on his heel and noticed where she had gone, giving reason to her sudden change in demeanor, he scoffed before following her over and standing next to her. He looked over the deserts and had to admit, they all looked very tempting, he wished he had just a little money left over to buy him and Neva something from it, but he gave all his pay to the orphanage in Hage village, they needed it more than he did.
Yuno then looked over at Neva and his eyes widened slightly; her face was lit up more than he had ever seen it, a smile he had only seen once before was currently gracing her delicate features, he noticed the way her eyes scanned all the deserts as though she couldn’t make up her mind on what she wanted. His smirk turned in a warm smile, he liked this look on her, it made her look like a completely different person. ‘Hm, I wonder if this is how she normally is, not how she tries to portray herself as.’ He wondered to himself, if this was her true personality shining through, he wanted to see more of it.
“ Hey Yuno, can I ask you something?” Neva asked softly, her head suddenly bowed down to hide her face. When he nodded she continued. “ Are there rumors circulating about me and the Captain?” She asked, catching him by surprise. Yuno rubbed the back of his head nervously.
“ Yea. There are.” He confirmed softly, Neva’s head lowered even more and she bit her lip. “Mimosa told me she doesn’t know where or who started it, but they’re trying to say you have a crush on the Captain and that you’re in love with him.” He added, Neva shook her head.
“ None of that is true. It’s actually pretty gross people think that, I don’t even remotely think of the Captain that way. He’s a mentor, a trusted ally, someone I can count on to have my back. Nothing more.” She told him seriously before raising her head and looking at Yuno. All the warmth and happiness from just a moment ago were completely gone, and in its place was a cold and harshness, she had reverted back to her ‘normal’ self, the one everyone saw. Yuno noticed he was a little disappointed, but he didn’t dwell on it much as they were suddenly pulled away by Mimosa and Klaus, saying the Stars were about to be handed out.
——-
Neva was suddenly bored as the Clover King began speaking, she honestly couldn’t understand why he was needed, he didn’t really do anything for the kingdom did he? She didn’t think so. But she watched as the Wizard King and King Kira began to have a small discussion and it was slightly amusing how everyone preferred Julius Novachrono to the Clover King. She watched as the stars were handed out, she didn’t recognize the new Captain of the Crimson Lions until Mimosa explained to her that she was Captain Fuegoleons sister Mereoleona, even from a distance Neva knew she did not want to mess with that woman. She seemed to be very powerful.
Neva couldn’t stop the smirk from appearing on her face as Yuno and Belle began to show off to the nobles, after the nobles tried to rag on him and Asta for being commoners that is. Even though Neva thought Belle was a little annoying, she had to admit she was a very powerful spirit. Neva could hear all the ‘oohs’ and ‘ahs’ from the crowd and it made her very happy. Until she heard a few feet behind her.
“ He’s very cute isn’t he?” One woman giggled.
“ Who? The blonde one?” Another asked, they were speaking in hushed voices as though trying not to draw attention to themselves.
“ No the dark haired one! He’s so cute and powerful, he even has a four leaf grimoire!” The first one giggled again, Neva glanced over her shoulder and noticed the two girls looked around her age or maybe a little older.
“ Hehe maybe you should try and ask him out when he gets off stage!” The other suggested causing Neva to straighten and clench her jaw, these girls were getting on her nerves.
‘Ooh is somebody jealous?’ That little voice teased causing Neva to blush and shake her head, nope, nu-uh, no way was she jealous! She wasn’t going to be like Belle and think Yuno was hers and nobody else’s! She wasn’t jealous. She wasn’t!
Suddenly Neva’s ears picked up a few key words that quickly grabbed her attention; Midnight Sun, Royal Magic Knights, and an exam to enter. She smirked a bit, this was payback for the invasion on the Capital, it also sounded like fun and it was a way for her to prove to herself and to others that she was one of the strongest in her squad.
Neva was definitely signing up!
——-
I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter I love it so much 🥺! If you don’t I apologize and I will try and do better next time, anyway thanks for reading and I hope you all have a good day~!

January Writing Prompt List ❄️
I really want to do a different writing prompt list every month and have you all send me numbers and a character if you want or I’ll just randomly pick one if I run out of ideas. However, I couldn’t find one that I liked and I don’t want to steal anyone else’s so I’m compiling my own list each month (hopefully). I’m pulling all of these from Pinterest btw but some of them have been taken from tumblr and posted there so I’ll tag for credit if I can, if I don’t credit something that’s yours, pls lmk and I will. If I’ve edited them, it was either to make it flow better in dialogue form or to change the pronouns to they/them/their.
Note: I’m only going to do each prompt once and I’ll cross it out here when I do.
So here goes nothing:
1. “All that ‘You can’t love someone unless you love yourself first’ mess is bullshit. I have never loved myself. But you, oh god, I love you so much I forgot what hating myself felt like.” (edited)
2. “Awfully confident aren’t you?” “I can kill every person in this room before most of them have a chance to get to their feet. Skills like that do wonders for a persons self confidence.”
3. “I don’t know how but I’m going to blame you for all my problems.”
4. “You occupy a very small space in a very large world, but your conscience is ever the umbrella. You also have a cute butt.” -This as well as numbers 2 and 3 were from @shitmygaywifesays and was things their wife has said to their cat but I thought they’d make good prompts too lol, hope you don’t mind!
5. “This movie is really scary, but you’re into it so I’m trying not to cover my face the whole time, but- WHAT IS THAT?”
6. Character A tilts Character B’s chin up to get a better look at their face and the evidence of the fight. A delicately thumbs away the streak of blood by B’s mouth, saying nothing as they examine it. After a brief pause, B’s heart skips a nervous beat as A looks them dead in the eyes. Their voice is quiet and tense, their anger barely restrained. “Who did this to you?” - @whumpster-dumpster
7. “Bite me.” “Eat me.” “Kiss my ass.”
8. “You have to tell me why were committing a felony before we do it. Not that that’s going to stop us, but at least I’ll have all the facts.”
9. “Call me that one more time, see what happens.”
10. “It’s pitch black in here and I can see you’re blushing.”
11. They pointed across the room. “Who’s that?” “Someone you don’t want to mess with. I heard that...” Too late. They were already walking over there. (edited)
12. “I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, ‘I’m going to mop the floor with your face.’ I said, ‘You’ll be sorry.’ He said, ‘Oh, yeah? Why?’ I said, ‘Well, you won’t be able to get into the corners very well.’”
13. “I always take life with a grain of salt, ...plus a slice of lemon, ...and a shot of tequila.”
14. “If being clumsy was a currency, I’d be a bloody billionaire.”
15. “Sorry, I have a clingy and feverish assassin on my lap. I’ll call you back when I’ve convinced them that a cold doesn’t mean they’re dying.” (edited)
16. Person A getting really annoyed with their tangled headphones and Person B just taking them off them and doing it for them.
17. Person A seeing that Person B’s shoelace is undone and instead of telling them, they just do it themselves.
18. “Did any of these assholes mess with you?” “No, you’ve marked your territory so hard they’re scared to even say ‘hello’”
19. “I’ve had a rough day and honestly all I want right now is a drink and someone to cuddle with...”
20. “Do you need a hand?” “Does it look like I need your help?” “Do you really want me to answer that or would you like to maintain plausible deniability for later?”
21. “Don’t tell me you’re fine, I can see the blood!”
22. “Is it still murder if I give them a heads up?” “That’s called a threat.” “Damn.”
23. “You keep pointing that gun at me and blabbering on about how much you’ve been wanting to kill me. I’m beginning to doubt your committment...”
And my personal favorites from @chounemui, Responses to: “We have a problem.”:
24. “Let me guess. You caused it?”
25. “No, YOU have a problem. I have an idiot who keeps getting into one.”
26. “Gimme a sec, I’m not drunk enough to listen to this yet.”
27. “And it’s another Tuesday, what’s your point?”
28. “If you mean the flaming pillar, that’s our solution to the last week’s problem.”
29. “Would shooting you solve the problem? No? Then get out.”
30. “You call it a problem. I call it a solution.”

Pillars of Eternity: Anthem Infinitum
Chapter 6: Bonds
"She's the real thing, isn't she?"
Aloth looked up from his grimoire at the blond man, startled. Until now, Edér had seemed content to ignore him for the most part, more interested in discussing recent Dyrwoodan history and Eothasian theology with their orlan directress. Not that Aloth minded. After all, the less attention drawn to himself, the better. And it was always a boon to be up to date on current events. And to practice his eavesdropping.
But now that Axa had excused herself from their campsite temporarily (facetiously citing "urgent business" to attend to in the bushes), the folk man turned his attention to Aloth. He thrust his bristly, blond chin toward the scrub brush nearby, gesturing into the darkness beyond the campfire, where Axa had walked off a few minutes prior.
"That girl's really a Watcher." He shook his head, his expression filled with wonder. "I was maybe expectin' a cipher with an inflated ego at best. But far as I can tell, she's bonafide."
"It would appear so," Aloth replied after a beat, remaining as carefully neutral as he could. "I must admit, I had my doubts at first. Even suspicions-- albeit slight-- that she may simply be losing her mind, hallucinating and so forth. But the more we see her use her... unique abilities, the more her assertions are corroborated by the real world, the more undeniable the truth becomes: she is a Watcher."
Edér smiled crookedly at the elf, eyeing him curiously. "...Right. That's, uh, what I meant, more or less."
Ye sound a right fuckin' twat, lad.
Aloth bit the inside of his mouth until he tasted blood.
An awkward silence descended over the two men, Edér propping his chin on his fist and gazing into the fire, lost in thought. Aloth stared into his open grimoire, but found he could not focus to read.
"I knew somethin' was up with Perly and Ingroed. And Nonton," Edér murmured, shaking his head and furrowing his brow. "Just couldn't quite figure out what. But the temple..." He sighed, heavy with melancholy. "Black bones, what a mess. Wish someone like her'd have showed up a few weeks back. ...Few years back."
And although Aloth knew he should at least try to be amicable, he found himself too consumed by his own thoughts to engage the farmer further. Instead, he politely pretended to listen while he ruminated over the day's events.
---
It had started with a few simple tasks. Edér had led the three of them around town, asking if any favors needed doing in exchange for coin and supplies to get to Caed Nua. The villagers seemed surprised and delighted to actually have help with their problems for once, and the three of them had taken to their work with vigor, reuniting a stolen shipment with the town blacksmith and the inn's cook with his stove and cauldron in a single afternoon. They had been on their way back to town yet again, spirits high, when Axa had remembered the hunter she'd met the other day, the bear who'd killed his companion.
"What do you think, lads?" she'd asked, hands on her hips as she stared into the mouth of the cave. "Shall we nip this one in the bud?" She had turned to Edér, her expression cautious and grave. "It killed your neighbor, Edér. How long before it happens again?"
The three kith had come to a consensus quickly, and advanced upon the bear's den, weapons drawn. The beast was slain easily enough, and Edér identified the kith body in the cave as that of his neighbor, Perly. But of course it wasn't as simple as all that.
Aloth had seen her first, had had to elbow Edér in the side to get him to take notice. Just like before, at the tree, Axa had stood above the dead man in the cave, transfixed by something invisible to her two companions. They had traded concerned looks briefly before turning their attention back to her, waiting for the little woman's episode to end.
Thankfully, it didn't last nearly as long as the one before had, but when she snapped back to awareness and turned to face them, Aloth had felt his heart dip into his stomach. She looked like a woman just told about her husband's infidelity. So much for high spirits.
"We're heading back into town, now," she'd said quietly. "Edér. Tell me everything you know about Nonton, Ingroed, and Perly."
He did.
---
And then... she had let them go.
Honestly, that was what had surprised Edér the most: despite her quick-tempered, no-nonsense attitude, she was remarkably softhearted when the situation allowed. She had showed little hesitation dispatching other kith, as he had observed during their skirmishes with bandits. But when she'd pressed the couple of conspirators, they'd confessed, and when they'd explained, she'd listened. When they'd asked her to accept their meager savings in exchange for her silence, she'd pushed the coinpurse away.
"No. No one should have to live in fear like that," she'd declared, her gaze fixed on the fading bruise on the woman's face. "...And everyone deserves a second chance. You take that coin and start your lives anew."
A memory of Elafa brushed against his thoughts, but only for a second.
Edér couldn't remember the last time he'd seen anyone in Gilded Vale shed tears of joy, and the memory of Ingroed wiping her tears away as she followed Nonton brought a slight smile to his lips even now as he stared into the fire.
"Well... I have always heard that orlans are intense and emotional. And that's exactly how I'd describe her. Just... not in the way I expected, I guess." The folk man could tell Aloth had only been half listening, but he'd pressed on anyway, talking as much to himself as to the elf. "She even stayed her hand against Wirtan, after what he did. Don't know if I could, if it'd just been me there with him alone. She ain't from Gilded Vale, though, of course. So... maybe it's just me."
Now Edér fell silent all of a sudden, and Aloth glanced up at him. Wirtan. The priests in the cellar. He shuddered, and felt a pang of sympathy for the Eothasian across from him.
And she not only stayed her hand. She let him go, too.
---
"You lied to me, Wirtan."
The gaunt, wiry man had squirmed under Axa's scrutiny, trembled and stammered as he explained himself. She was at least two heads shorter than him, but her fervor, her quiet, indignant fury had had the same effect as though she had towered over him.
But then, the desiccated corpses strapped to her back-- that she'd insisted on carrying back herself-- lent her a certain authority, too.
But once again, she did not come out swinging, the way your typical Dyrwoodan might. She'd asked him why he did what he had done, and she had listened. And he'd told her everything: how he'd tried to warn them, how he'd tried to help them hide. How he'd abandoned them to their fate, terrified of his Lord's retribution.
"So you killed them," Edér had snarled. "Or you may as well have. You never thought to tell anyone? Try to get some folks together to save 'em?"
"Sure, and get the whole lot of us executed," Wirtan had snapped back, clutching at his bloody wound and glowering at the Eothasian. "I'm sure the Scattered God would love yet another martyr."
"At least then you could have died with some honor left to your name," Edér had retorted hotly, "instead of having to live as the murderin' coward you are--"
"Edér. Please."
She'd turned toward him, her hand raised in a bid for peace, and everyone had looked to her, awaiting her judgment.
"He's right, Wirtan. You are a coward. But... lesser circumstances have made cowards of stronger kith than you. And you cannot undo what you've done, now."
She'd forced the bundled remains of the priests into his arms, looking hard into his eyes.
"The question isn't whether you can make it up to them. You can't. The question is: can you do right by them the best you're able to now? Can you live a better life, be a better man than you've been?"
He could try.
---
Bold, blunt, irascible. Not fond of liars. But... conscionable. Kind at heart, quick to forgive. Aloth was starting to notice a pattern in the little woman's behavior, one that might prove very beneficial to him.
Sure, she were tailor-made fer ye, laddie! Now see if she fits in yer lap nice 'n snug--
He slapped himself in the face, drawing an odd look from Edér.
"Damned horseflies." Aloth smiled blithely back at him, and the farmer cocked an eyebrow, but said nothing, turning his attention back to the campfire.
Yes. After all he'd seen, after his careful deliberations, this arrangement, Aloth had decided, was his best prospect: following a stranger to a castle because she could talk to the dead. It felt like a bad joke, but then, so did most of his life when he really thought about it.
And if she can lead me to some sort of punchline without managing to get me killed, I'll be better off than I was when she found me. He could feel his conviction solidify in his chest, in his stomach. They would reach Caed Nua tomorrow afternoon, and then--
"Think Maerwald'll know what t' do for us?" Aloth jumped a bit at Edér's voice. "I haven't heard any news out of Caed Nua in, oh, years. Don't even really know if he's still there."
The elf gave the folk a polite smile. "I certainly hope so. Otherwise, we might be in for some difficult nights. I've been informed of-- and witnessed first-hand-- the difficulties Watchers sometimes have sleeping."
He looked at the wizard as if for the first time. "Y' know," Edér murmured, "I never even considered I'd still be followin' her after we met up with Maerwald. But now that I think of it..."
"You'll not be rid of me that easily, I'm afraid." Axa's reappearance was sudden, but not startling. Chanter training, Aloth imagined, easing the surprise with her soft, dulcet tones while still ensuring she was heard. "But I promise to try to keep my nightmares to a minimum."
The farmer grinned broadly at the little woman. "There y'are. Nightmares, huh? I been there."
Goan, lad, ask 'er dae she e'er dream o' bouncin' li'e a coney in a elf lad's arms--
"Shut up," he hissed, turning his quickly reddening face away from the orlan, realizing his error when he saw Edér's dumbstruck expression.
Axa's voice was soft and low and even. "...Sorry, come again?"

Chapter 6: The Roles We’re Given
Chapter 7: To Save A Life
Final Chapter: I’ll Always Be With You
Dusk began to creep over the horizon of the Fire Nation royal palace. It was only a few hours before Zoryu would make his public address, putting a cap on the whole Saowan clan situation. He was dreading every minute that passed.
His office space looked much different than most of the other rooms in the palace, rather than the bright reds of the other interiors the office resembled burgundy. In contrast to the rest of the palace, it was much more professional than regal. He was hunched over an old wooden desk, finishing the last few points of his speech.
But while he was in deep concentration, the voice of a guard broke the silence.
“Firelord Zoryu…..” His voice was shaking slightly. Zoryu didn’t look up from his paper.
“Yes, what is it?”
“Sir, you…… um, have a visitor.”
The confusion was apparent in Zoryu’s eyes. “Who could possibly be visiting me right before an important spe-”
He looked up to find Kyoshi standing right next to the guard. Zoryu froze in place, this was the last person he wanted to see right now.
Kyoshi stood with reservation, back in the daofei makeup. She bowed her head slightly, trying to make an attempt at a formal greeting as the guard made his exit. “Its good to see you again, Firelord Zoryu.”
Zoryu strained his face, a combination of anger and fear. “What do you want? Plan on finishing the job you gave to your little assassin?”
Kyoshi stared at Zoryu blankly. His tone was much more combative than she had ever heard from him. “No need to be hasty, actually I’ve come to meet up with him.”
Right as she was done talking, Lao Ge suddenly dropped from the ceiling. It made Zoryu jump in fear, leaving an expression that would have been the last face you would envision when thinking about the Firelord himself.
Lao Ge smiled in amusement before returning to Kyoshi’s side. Zoryu attempted to collect himself after such a sudden scare.
Zoryu pointed at Lao Ge. “How long have you been in here?!”
The old man shrugged nonchalantly, looking around the room. “Long enough.”
“But that's not the only reason I’m here. I’m here to make sure you’ve kept to our agreement.”
Zoryu grimaced, he didn’t need to be reminded but he could still anticipate the blow to his honor after the nobles hear his address. He angrily grabbed his written speech and handed it to Kyoshi.
“You can look all through it, I’ve kept my promise. Are you happy now?”
Kyoshi meticulously looked at every sentence, making sure there wasn’t some possible ambiguity in what his intentions were. Everything was there, the Saowan members not affiliated with Chaejin or Huazo would be released while Chaejin and Huazo would be under tight security. It was all there.
“Well, it seems your right. You’ve kept your promise…..but I’m going to need some adjustments.”
Zoryu leaned his head to the side. “What do you mean by that?”
“I want you to free all of the protesters you’ve imprisoned as well.”
Zoryu felt his stomach sink, he had not anticipated this request. It was another addition to the list of the reasons the Avatar didn’t trust him.
“You didn’t think I wouldn’t find out, did you?” There was a noticeable disdain in her voice, despite the fact she was still speaking calmly. It left an unbearable silence, that question still up in the air.
“Fine. I’ll add it in. This whole thing is already a bit of a reach but if it gets you off my back I’ll make it happen.”
Kyoshi returned the speech as he prepared to revise it. She was surprised at how easy this negotiation was going, but then she remembered this was Zoryu she was talking to. Before he tried acting like a “proper” Firelord, he was a bit of a pushover. Well, at least he was a pushover in person.
Kyoshi slightly raised a hand, prompting Zoryu to stop before he started writing again. “There was one last thing I wanted to make sure of…..”
Zoryu leaned in on his desk with a hand holding his face up in exhaustion and annoyance.
“That man you brought in to take Yun’s place, the man who was supposed to be executed. Where is he?”
Zoryu sighed for a moment before speaking.
“I released him last night, he should be back home by now. His family lives by some of the huts outside the city walls if you want to find him.”
“And….”
Zoryu’s face tightened. “And I relinquished his debts. Again, I did everything you asked me to do.”
“Yes, and it only took you weeks to finally get around to it,” Kyoshi had to try to not blatantly insult Zoryu, but sometimes it was hard to do. “But all that matters now is that it's done.”
Kyoshi didn’t bother to make any semblance of a formal leave, as she started making her way out the door. Then suddenly Zoryu stood up.
“Wait, Kyoshi…”
Kyoshi stopped in her tracks and turned around to face the young Firelord.
“There's something I need to know. The message you gave me, or rather your assassin gave me. You said that if I didn’t meet your demands….you’d have me killed. Did you mean it?”
Another unbearable silence. Kyoshi sighed deeply. It was still a question that bugged her before she even arrived at the palace. But another thought came into her head. An idea that came to her after everything she saw. What she was going to say wasn’t the truth, since the plan really was to kill him if he didn’t comply. But she decided this was a good opportunity to send the right message.
“No. I wouldn’t have. Not because I couldn’t get rid of you. If that was the case I could have done that a long time ago, but all that would do is give Chaejin a chance at the throne, and we both know that wouldn’t solve anything.
“It was just an empty threat to get you to cooperate. But more than that, I don’t even need to kill you. Most of your people believe the Saowan clan’s arrest was justified, but I’ve seen enough to convince them otherwise. If they really knew what you did, bringing in an innocent man to take Yun’s execution, blaming the Saowan with no evidence, and using that to keep your power, the nobles wouldn’t even need to disgrace you. Because the people would have done it before they could. They may not listen to me, but I’m certain they’d listen to Yangchen.”
Zoryu’s eyes widened as he stood up. “You wouldn’t dare!”
Kyoshi showed no change in expression, she wasn’t the same person she was when they last met. She wasn’t trying to pretend she was some imposing force of authority, because now she really was. All she responded with was silence.
Zoryu slowly sat back down, the anger he felt dissipated as he began to feel how powerless he really was.
“I don’t know what you think of yourself now, as a leader, but before that, I saw someone who wanted peace for their nation. Someone who wanted peace for their people. But I misjudged you. All you really wanted was an easy peace, one that didn’t require you to make any tough decisions. And look where that's gotten us.”
Zoryu had forgotten the days before the incident with Yun. He forgot about the worry that he had for the crops and the welfare of his people. Now he had bogged himself down a hole trying to settle this Saowan issue that he created for himself. All he could feel was bitter, having to become someone he never wanted to be.
“You may think the people deserve to respect you, now that you're trying to act like a real Firelord, whatever that is. But trust me, you should be the one respecting the people. You're nothing without them.”
Zoryu leaned back in his chair. He wasn’t being threatened, he knew that, but it still felt like he was. If it was any other Firelord they would have banished her for the audacity of speaking in that way. But she held the power now, not just that but the truth. All Zoryu could do was laugh.
“Well, it looks like you’ve really embraced being the Avatar, huh.”
Kyoshi still kept her composed, disdainful stare. “And it looks like you're really taking after your father.”
With that, Kyoshi saw herself out. Lao Ge gave a joking bow to Zoryu as he left along with her. As they opened the door, they looked down a long hallway draped with red Fire Nation banners. But at the end of the hall, Kyoshi noticed a familiar face pointing in their direction.
“YOU!!!” It was about as appropriate a greeting from Jiran as Kyoshi could anticipate.
Jiran called out to the room behind Kyoshi. “Don’t worry Firelord, I’ll take care of this treasonous Avatar.”
Zoryu weakly called out from his office. “Please don’t.”
The command didn’t stop Jiran from getting into his fighting stance, with more assurance and cockiness than their last encounter. “Your little girlfriend isn’t here to help you now. I’m going to enjoy wiping the floor with you!”
He then made his advance towards Kyoshi and Lao Ge. The only time she lost part of her composure was right then, pinching the bridge of her nose and letting out a short frustrated sigh. Without a second thought, Kyoshi raised a fist up, creating a pillar that came up from below Jiran. It flung him straight up into the air, hitting the ceiling and coming right back down to the floor.
Kyoshi and Lao Ge continued their way down the hall, passing by Jiran’s unconscious body. He wasn’t dead but he probably broke a few ribs. And another tooth.
With time they made their way out of the palace gates, heading back into the city. After they were far away enough from the guards, Kyoshi let out a long exhale. It felt like she was keeping in any anxiety she had for the entire time she was in there. She turned to Lao Ge as they were walking down the steps to the palace.
“So, how did I do?”
The old man gave her a mischievous smile. “A truly fine performance, more than worthy of the Flying Opera Company.”
She laughed, it was probably the first time Lao Ge made her laugh. It was another new experience.
“Well, I’m just glad that's all over now,” Kyoshi’s eyes began to wander back to the city, focusing on the outside of the walls and the rays of the setting sun. “But there's still one more loose end I need to deal with.”

Lost in Middle-Earth
Tumblr media
Thranduil x reader
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8
Summary: Y/n finds herself falling asleep after watching all the Lord of the rings movie on Friday night, tired after a week of studying and working. What will happen when she finds herself in the middle of a forest with orcs running after her
Warnings: None only Thranduil being a sassy bitch
Words:1,836
A/n : First of all I want to say thank you to everyone who like it this story! I really appreciate the support. You guys are awesome.
(Thranduil P.O.V)
I was sitting on my throne, waiting for Mithrandir to came in. I put my hand on my face, letting a sigh fall from my lips. What on the Valar it’s going on?! First there's a Human yelling that she is from another world and know Mithrandir appears of know where, saying that someone has arrive to Middle-Earth. This is crazy, so much had happened to me this millennium, the death of my wife, my son leaving me for seek adventure after the battle of the five armies and now this. If this little human right, why is she here?
The sound of doors opening interrupted my thoughts, I look up and see Mithrandir walk to the throne. I sit more straight, lifting my head high, “What is it this time, Mithrandir?” I said with a bored voice, “King Thranduil. I’ve come here to talk about a certain human that you found in your forest.” I sigh and shake my head “The human that was found in my forest it has lost her mind. Maybe the poison that the orc’s dagger had corrupted her, I wouldn’t be surprised since edain are so fragile and weak.” Mithrandir looks to me with a confused face “What do you mean she have lost her mind? What exactly it she saying?” I lift my right hand and start playing with the rings on my fingers “When she woke up, she looked confused and afraid but when I ask her which village that was she from, she said ‘I’m not from this world’. Tell me Mithrandir, do you believe her?” he looks down, seeming lost in thoughts. He begins murmuring something under his breath, “She might be right...The Valar had send me a message saying that Eru himself have send a special human from another realm to Middle-Earth. I think she was sent to help since the One Ring have been found.” with this information I stand up “How was this possible? How Sauron have managed find the One Ring?” I said with panic in voice “The hobbit that was charge of bring the ring to Rivendell was found by the Nazgul's but a ranger succeed to bring him there.” a hobbit? Who would let a hobbit take the One Ring to Rivendell? “King Thranduil if you don’t mind, could I have a word with this human?” I think for a while, how could this human had been sent by Eru? I nod in approval and I tell the guards to bring the human.
(Y/n P.O.V)
The sound of the cell door opening woke me up, I look up and see an elf barging in “W..What’s happening?” I said with a weak voice. The elf grabs me by the arm and force me to stand up “The King wish to see you.” oh shit where we go again, the guard took me out of the cell and lead me to the throne room. During the trip there, I notice how beautiful this place is. The huge pillars decorate with beautiful elven symbols, the bridges were so elegant like I never seen in my life. I was so captivated with the place that didn't notice that we have arrive.
The big doors open and the guard lead me over where the throne was it. There sitting was of course Thranduil, in all of his glory, with an arrogant smirk. The guard throw me and I fall on my knees in front of the throne, a little cry falls from my lips as my body it still hurts from all the stuff have happen to me. Suddenly I feel a comforting warm hand on my back, I look up and see an old man offering me his hand, I took it and whisper a small thank you. He gives me a warm smile, making his skin wrinkles in the corners of his mouth, as I stand up, I took a good look at him, he is wearing a grey robe with a pointy grey hat, he has long dirty grey hair and a long beard. Wait...This is Gandalf!! I try calm down my inner fangirl. Jesus I can’t believe that Gandalf it’s right in front of me, “Hello young one.”  he said with a calm voice “I hope you are feeling better.” I nod “Hello Gandalf The Grey. I could be better if the elvenking haven’t throw into a dungeon.” last words I said with venom as I look to Thranduil, who was now with a frown on his face, as for Gandalf, his face was priceless, his mouth was haging open and his eyes were wide open, I would laugh my ass out but that would make me look like a crazy woman. Gandalf gives a little cough, “I’m sorry My Lady but how do you know my name?” ohhhh right... fuck how I'm going to say that Middle-Earth is fiction story in my world? “Ahh well you see I'm from another world and in there Middle-Earth is just a story. Don’t ask me how I got here because I don’t know. All I know is that I woke up in the middle of a forest, attacked by an orc and then woke up again here. Please you have to believe me!” I plead to him, I hear Thranduil groan and almost feel him rolling his eyes, Christ I hate him, “Calm down child...i believe you.” at this I feel my body relax from happiness “You do?” he nods “Yes...If you know so much about our world, then you understand the dangers that live in it.” he said with a serious voice, I nod, feeling a bit afraid now that I think of all the creatures that live here. “Ok then. King Thranduil I need you take this lovely lady as your guest a while I go find more answers about this...strange event.” Thranduil makes a weird face “Why do I have to taker in? Take her to rivendell or something.” wow what a charming King, I roll my eyes and cross my arms “I don’t need to be protect by greedy king, I can go to the near village or something.” if look could kill, I would be dead right now, the look that Thranduil is giving me was cold and angry, “No...ahhh I'm sorry what's your name, My Lady?” Gandalf ask with a guilty voice, “My name is Y/n.” he nods “Okay Y/n, you can’t go wonder around Middle-Earth, it’s too dangerous for a human like you. Here it’s the safest place for you right now.” I huff and nod, I know that I'm being childish but I can’t stand that sassy king, I'm certain that he is going my live here difficult. Gandalf bow to him and then turns to me “Hope you have a lovely day Y/n.” then he closes the distance between us and whisper in my ear “And good luck with him, I think he needs someone like you.” with that he leaves with a small smile. I stand there with a shocked face. Very funny Gandalf. Thranduil lift up from his throne and walk towards me, “Listen well woman, I don’t want you walking around on my kingdom, you only leave your room with my guards and you will always accompany me on dinner. Am I clear?” I sigh, I've known that this would happen, he would never let me alone, walking around in his kingdom, “Yes, your highness.” I said sarcastically “Good. Tauriel will show you to your new room.” as he said that a beautiful woman enters the room, waiting for me by the door. I nod and walk towards her, thinking of what hell did I get myself into?!
(Thranduil P.O.V)
I had to control my anger when Mithrandir said the human had to stay here. Why in the hell she has to stay here? What if she is a danger to my kingdom? If something happens it will Mithrandir fault.
Watching Y/n leaving the room, I notice how small she is, her h/c makes a beautiful contrast with her soft s/c skin, with those big e/c eyes. She is definitely one of the most beautiful human I’ve seen in my life, she almost looks like an elf. I shake my head, what happen to me? I’ve never been attracted to another woman since my wife died. Ahhh I have to get those thoughts out of my head. I leave the throne room to my bedroom.
I enter in my bedroom and close the door with all my strength, making a loud sound. I take my robe and throw it to bed, I put my crown on the small table and go fill a cup of wine, drowning my stress and rage that this human has caused.
(Y/n P.O.V)
Tauriel show me my room and tell me that she will get me when the it’s dinner time and with that she leaves me alone in my new room.
I look around me, seeing that the room was HUGE, almost the same size of my small apartment. The room was lovely decorated, the theme color was green forest and a light brown. There is a king size bed with soft green blankets, in the other corner of the room was a huge wardrobe, I walk there and open it, a gasp escapes from my lips as I see that it’s fills of beautiful dresses, am I supposed to wear this? Well I wouldn’t mind it. Closing the wardrobe, I walk to the small balcony, there I could see almost all Mirkwood land, if I've got my phone here, I would take some awesome photos. I sit on the chair and take a deep breath, why am I here? Did anyone back home miss me? I bet that b/f/n is freaking out. I close my eyes, letting all my body melt into the chair. Well I have some time until dinner, so I just might sleep a little. Letting sleep take over me, I could hear all the live in the forest, like I was the animals themselves. I fall asleep cuddling to a soft pillow on the chair, forgetting all the crazy stuff it had happen in those two days.
Hey everyone!!! Here is part 2. Hope you like it!! I’m sorry if the some grammatical error, english it’s not my first language and I have dyslexia so be kind 😊 This series will be slow burn for not jump all the action all the sudden, it will have smut so be warned. First Reading
1 Corinthians 15:35-37,42-49
The resurrected body is heavenly by nature
Someone may ask, ‘How are dead people raised, and what sort of body do they have when they come back?’ They are stupid questions. Whatever you sow in the ground has to die before it is given new life and the thing that you sow is not what is going to come; you sow a bare grain, say of wheat or something like that. It is the same with the resurrection of the dead: the thing that is sown is perishable but what is raised is imperishable; the thing that is sown is contemptible but what is raised is glorious; the thing that is sown is weak but what is raised is powerful; when it is sown it embodies the soul, when it is raised it embodies the spirit.
If the soul has its own embodiment, so does the spirit have its own embodiment. The first man, Adam, as scripture says, became a living soul; but the last Adam has become a life-giving spirit. That is, first the one with the soul, not the spirit, and after that, the one with the spirit. The first man, being from the earth, is earthly by nature; the second man is from heaven. As this earthly man was, so are we on earth; and as the heavenly man is, so are we in heaven. And we, who have been modelled on the earthly man, will be modelled on the heavenly man.
The Word of the Lord

Gospel
Luke 8:4-15
The parable of the sower
With a large crowd gathering and people from every town finding their way to him, Jesus used this parable:
‘A sower went out to sow his seed. As he sowed, some fell on the edge of the path and was trampled on; and the birds of the air ate it up. Some seed fell on rock, and when it came up it withered away, having no moisture. Some seed fell amongst thorns and the thorns grew with it and choked it. And some seed fell into rich soil and grew and produced its crop a hundredfold.’ Saying this he cried, ‘Listen, anyone who has ears to hear!’
His disciples asked him what this parable might mean, and he said, ‘The mysteries of the kingdom of God are revealed to you; for the rest there are only parables, so that
they may see but not perceive,
listen but not understand.
‘This, then, is what the parable means: the seed is the word of God. Those on the edge of the path are people who have heard it, and then the devil comes and carries away the word from their hearts in case they should believe and be saved. Those on the rock are people who, when they first hear it, welcome the word with joy. But these have no root; they believe for a while, and in time of trial they give up. As for the part that fell into thorns, this is people who have heard, but as they go on their way they are choked by the worries and riches and pleasures of life and do not reach maturity. As for the part in the rich soil, this is people with a noble and generous heart who have heard the word and take it to themselves and yield a harvest through their perseverance.’
The Gospel of the Lord
R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

(Readings for the memorial)
(There is a choice today between the readings for the ferial day (Saturday) and those for the memorial. The ferial readings are recommended unless pastoral reasons suggest otherwise)
First Reading
Hebrews 10:32-36
Be confident now, since the reward is so great
Remember all the sufferings that you had to meet after you received the light, in earlier days; sometimes by being yourselves publicly exposed to insults and violence, and sometimes as associates of others who were treated in the same way. For you not only shared in the sufferings of those who were in prison, but you happily accepted being stripped of your belongings, knowing that you owned something that was better and lasting. Be as confident now, then, since the reward is so great. You will need endurance to do God’s will and gain what he has promised.
Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 125(126):1-6
Those who are sowing in tears will sing when they reap.
When the Lord delivered Zion from bondage,
it seemed like a dream.
Then was our mouth filled with laughter,
on our lips there were songs.
Those who are sowing in tears will sing when they reap.
The heathens themselves said: ‘What marvels
the Lord worked for them!’
What marvels the Lord worked for us!
Indeed we were glad.
Those who are sowing in tears will sing when they reap.
Deliver us, O Lord, from our bondage
as streams in dry land.
Those who are sowing in tears
will sing when they reap.
Those who are sowing in tears will sing when they reap.
They go out, they go out, full of tears,
carrying seed for the sowing:
they come back, they come back, full of song,
carrying their sheaves.

If a grain of wheat falls on the ground and dies, it yields a rich harvest
Jesus said to his disciples:
‘I tell you, most solemnly,
unless a wheat grain falls on the ground and dies,
it remains only a single grain;
but if it dies,
it yields a rich harvest.
Anyone who loves his life loses it;
anyone who hates his life in this world
will keep it for the eternal life.
If a man serves me, he must follow me,
wherever I am, my servant will be there too.
If anyone serves me, my Father will honour him.’

First Reading
Genesis 3:9-15,20
The mother of all those who live
After Adam had eaten of the tree the Lord God called to him. ‘Where are you?’ he asked. ‘I heard the sound of you in the garden;’ he replied ‘I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid.’ ‘Who told you that you were naked?’ he asked ‘Have you been eating of the tree I forbade you to eat?’ The man replied, ‘It was the woman you put with me; she gave me the fruit, and I ate it.’ Then the Lord God asked the woman, ‘What is this you have done?’ The woman replied, ‘The serpent tempted me and I ate.’
Then the Lord God said to the serpent, ‘Because you have done this,
‘Be accursed beyond all cattle,
all wild beasts.
You shall crawl on your belly and eat dust
every day of your life.
I will make you enemies of each other:
you and the woman,
your offspring and her offspring.
It will crush your head
and you will strike its heel.’
The man named his wife ‘Eve’ because she was the mother of all those who live.
Responsorial Psalm
1 Samuel 2:1,4-8
My heart exults in the Lord my Saviour.
My heart exults in the Lord.
I find my strength in my God;
my mouth laughs at my enemies
as I rejoice in your saving help.
My heart exults in the Lord my Saviour.
The bows of the mighty are broken,
but the weak are clothed with strength.
Those with plenty must labour for bread,
but the hungry need work no more.
The childless wife has children now
but the fruitful wife bears no more.
My heart exults in the Lord my Saviour.
It is the Lord who gives life and death,
he brings men to the grave and back;
it is the Lord who gives poverty and riches.
He brings men low and raises them on high.
My heart exults in the Lord my Saviour.
He lifts up the lowly from the dust,
from the dungheap he raises the poor
to set him in the company of princes
to give him a glorious throne.
For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s,
on them he has set the world.
My heart exults in the Lord my Saviour.

The ancestry and conception of Jesus Christ
A genealogy of Jesus Christ, son of David, son of Abraham:
Abraham was the father of Isaac,
Isaac the father of Jacob,
Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,
Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah, Tamar being their mother,
Perez was the father of Hezron,

Nahshon the father of Salmon,
Salmon was the father of Boaz, Rahab being his mother,

Obed was the father of Jesse;
and Jesse was the father of King David.
David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife,
Solomon was the father of Rehoboam,
Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asa,
Asa was the father of Jehoshaphat,

Ahaz the father of Hezekiah,
Hezekiah was the father of Manasseh,
Manasseh the father of Amon,
Amon the father of Josiah;
and Josiah was the father of Jechoniah and his brothers.
Then the deportation to Babylon took place.
After the deportation to Babylon:
Jechoniah was the father of Shealtiel,
Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel,
Zerubbabel was the father of Abiud,
Abiud the father of Eliakim,
Eliakim the father of Azor,
Azor was the father of Zadok,
Zadok the father of Achim,
Achim the father of Eliud,
Eliud was the father of Eleazar,
Eleazar the father of Matthan,
Matthan the father of Jacob;
and Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband of Mary;
of her was born Jesus who is called Christ.
This is how Jesus Christ came to be born. His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph; but before they came to live together she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph; being a man of honour and wanting to spare her publicity, decided to divorce her informally. He had made up his mind to do this when the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, ‘Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because she has conceived what is in her by the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son and you must name him Jesus, because he is the one who is to save his people from their sins.’ Now all this took place to fulfil the words spoken by the Lord through the prophet:
The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son
and they will call him Emmanuel,

The flight into Egypt and the return to Nazareth
After the wise men had left, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, ‘Get up, take the child and his mother with you, and escape into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, because Herod intends to search for the child and do away with him.’ So Joseph got up and, taking the child and his mother with him, left that night for Egypt, where he stayed until Herod was dead. This was to fulfil what the Lord had spoken through the prophet:
I called my son out of Egypt.
After Herod’s death, the angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt and said, ‘Get up, take the child and his mother with you and go back to the land of Israel, for those who wanted to kill the child are dead.’ So Joseph got up and, taking the child and his mother with him, went back to the land of Israel. But when he learnt that Archelaus had succeeded his father Herod as ruler of Judaea he was afraid to go there, and being warned in a dream he left for the region of Galilee. There he settled in a town called Nazareth. In this way the words spoken through the prophets were to be fulfilled:
‘He will be called a Nazarene.’

My mother and my brothers are anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven
Jesus was speaking to the crowds when his mother and his brothers appeared; they were standing outside and were anxious to have a word with him. 'I am the handmaid of the Lord'
The angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the House of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. He went in and said to her, ‘Rejoice, so highly favoured! The Lord is with you.’ She was deeply disturbed by these words and asked herself what this greeting could mean, but the angel said to her, ‘Mary, do not be afraid; you have won God’s favour. Listen! You are to conceive and bear a son, and you must name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David; he will rule over the House of Jacob for ever and his reign will have no end.’ Mary said to the angel, ‘But how can this come about, since I am a virgin?’ ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you’ the angel answered ‘and the power of the Most High will cover you with its shadow. And so the child will be holy and will be called Son of God. Know this too: your kinswoman Elizabeth has, in her old age, herself conceived a son, and she whom people called barren is now in her sixth month, for nothing is impossible to God.’ ‘I am the handmaid of the Lord,’ said Mary ‘let what you have said be done to me.’ And the angel left her.

Blessed is she who believed the promise
Mary set out and went as quickly as she could to a town in the hill country of Judah. She went into Zechariah’s house and greeted Elizabeth. Now as soon as Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leapt in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. She gave a loud cry and said, ‘Of all women you are the most blessed, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Why should I be honoured with a visit from the mother of my Lord? For the moment your greeting reached my ears, the child in my womb leapt for joy. Yes, blessed is she who believed that the promise made her by the Lord would be fulfilled.’

Luke 2:1-14
'In the town of David a saviour has been born to you'
Caesar Augustus issued a decree for a census of the whole world to be taken. This census – the first – took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria, and everyone went to his own town to be registered. So Joseph set out from the town of Nazareth in Galilee and travelled up to Judaea, to the town of David called Bethlehem, since he was of David’s House and line, in order to be registered together with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. While they were there the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to a son, her first born. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them at the inn.
In the countryside close by there were shepherds who lived in the fields and took it in turns to watch their flocks during the night. The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone round them. They were terrified, but the angel said, ‘Do not be afraid. Listen, I bring you news of great joy, a joy to be shared by the whole people. Today in the town of David a saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. And here is a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.’ And suddenly with the angel there was a great throng of the heavenly host, praising God and singing:
‘Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and peace to men who enjoy his favour.’

Luke 2:15-19
The shepherds hurried to Bethlehem and found the baby lying in the manger
Now when the angels had gone from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let us go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.’ So they hurried away and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger. When they saw the child they repeated what they had been told about him, and everyone who heard it was astonished at what the shepherds had to say. As for Mary, she treasured all these things and pondered them in her heart.

'A sword will pierce your soul too'
Prompted by the Spirit Simeon came to the Temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the Law required, he took him into his arms and blessed God; and he said:
‘Now, Master, you can let your servant go in peace,
just as you promised;
because my eyes have seen the salvation
which you have prepared for all the nations to see,
a light to enlighten the pagans
and the glory of your people Israel.’
As the child’s father and mother stood there wondering at the things that were being said about him, Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, ‘You see this child: he is destined for the fall and for the rising of many in Israel, destined to be a sign that is rejected – and a sword will pierce your own soul too – so that the secret thoughts of many may be laid bare.’

Mary stored up all these things in her heart
Every year the parents of Jesus used to go to Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up for the feast as usual. When they were on their way home after the feast, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem without his parents knowing it. They assumed he was with the caravan, and it was only after a day’s journey that they went to look for him among their relations and acquaintances. When they failed to find him they went back to Jerusalem looking for him everywhere.
Three days later, they found him in the Temple, sitting among the doctors, listening to them, and asking them questions; and all those who heard him were astounded at his intelligence and his replies. They were overcome when they saw him, and his mother said to him, ‘My child, why have, you done this to us? See how worried your father and I have been, looking for you.’
‘Why were you looking for me?’ he replied. ‘Did you not know that I must be busy with my Father’s affairs?’ But they did not understand what he meant.
He then went down with them and came to Nazareth and lived under their authority.
His mother stored up all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom, in stature, and in favour with God and men.

John 2:1-11
'My hour has not come yet' - 'Do whatever he tells you'
There was a wedding at Cana in Galilee. The mother of Jesus was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited. When they ran out of wine, since the wine provided for the wedding was all finished, the mother of Jesus said to him, ‘They have no wine.’ Jesus said ‘Woman, why turn to me? My hour has not come yet.’ His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you.’ There were six stone water jars standing there, meant for the ablutions that are customary among the Jews: each could hold twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, ‘Fill the jars with water’, and they filled them to the brim. ‘Draw some out now’ he told them ‘and take it to the steward.’ They did this; the steward tasted the water, and it had turned into wine. Having no idea where it came from – only the servants who had drawn the water knew – the steward called the bridegroom and said, ‘People generally serve the best wine first, and keep the cheaper sort till the guests have had plenty to drink; but you have kept the best wine till now.’
This was the first of the signs given by Jesus: it was given at Cana in Galilee. He let his glory be seen, and his disciples believed in him.

'Woman, this is your son'
Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. Chapter 1: At First, There was One
"There were four of you. Then two. Then one.
You wonder how it ended up like this."
Due to unfortunate circumstances, you find yourself under the wing of the ex-pillar, Urokodaki Sakonji. Slowly, you grow and little by little you become stronger each day, but the trials of life are never over. You have to fight. To purge demons. To become a pillar.
If you want to make real change happen in a world of demons and swordsmen.
This is your road to becoming a demon slaying swordsman. And it starts with Urokodaki.
Tumblr media
It is only Urokodaki and you in the beginning.
"What exactly are we doing here?" you ask, gazing around the throng of people shoving past each other through the narrow village streets. Or at least, it seemed narrow given the business of the day. Through the gaps between the crowd, you can make out the white banners of wooden stalls selling hot-off-the press street food. You nearly salivate at the intoxicating scent of Takoyaki permeating the air. Suddenly, you feel extremely small. You leech onto your teacher, sticking close behind his broad and reassuring back. "Are we going to see Ms. Doctor again?"
You hear the scowl behind his mask as Urokodaki answers, "That's 'sensei' to you, Brat, and why the doctor? Is your eye acting up again?"
Your hand grazes the dark eye patch as you purse your lips. "Well, no not really. If anything there's... nothing. I don't feel anything from it anymore."
"... I'm sorry."
You watch Urokodaki slightly angle his head towards you. It's evident in his tone, and while you haven't seen his face, in that moment you picture old, battle-worn features pinch with guilt.
You don't appreciate it, really.
Rolling your one good eye at him, you snort, "Whatever. It's not like it's your fault anyway, so stop feeling sorry for me. Instead, why don't you tell me why we're actually here?"
"For your information, I'm meeting with a colleague."
"Eh, you're just seeing a friend? But I still need to practice."
"... I wouldn't go as far as to call them a friend."
By his tone, you realize what he means and your nonchalant mood sobers. "They're still trying...?"
"Yes, unfortunately. Even though I'm retired," Urokodaki sighs, halting in front of the local tea shop. He turns to you. "(Your name), why don't you explore the town while we're here. I know you don't enjoy crowds, but we don't often come to a nice little village like this. Try to relax. You're always training. Do something for fun."
You stare down at your boots and pout, "Sword training may be grueling, but it's fun for me too."
Your teacher huffs, "I'm sure it is, but the human body needs time to rest. Your performance may decline if you continue to push yourself too far. Just two hours, have a bit of fun. I swear to the gods you won't regret it."
"... I suppose you're right," You give him a pointed look, "But once two hours are up, we're heading back to continue training."
"Of course."
You wave your farewells as you walk away from Urokodaki, from the tea shop, and from the high ranked Demon Slayer Corps official that rests at a booth in the far back.
+++++++++++
You don't have money and Urokodaki hadn't given you anything to spend, so hanging around the shopping district means nothing for you. You'll have to find something else to pass the time. You quickly breeze through the streets, between the uncomfortable hustle and bustle of people. You make an effort to avoid getting grazed by strangers as you grip your haori closer to your body with gloved hands. Your mind strays back to Urokodaki and you frown, finding yourself deep in thought.
You don't understand why your master, your sensei, did not want you to meet with an official of the elusive Demon Slayer Corps. Is that not what you've been training for? To be one of them? A live image of your goal is at your fingertips, yet Urokodaki turns you away for the sake of "rest" and "fun".
You huff as you stride through the streets. Wandering aimlessly, you hardly notice as dusk falls over the town. You grind your teeth together. Screw fun and rest. You're too pissed off. Not at your teacher but at the whole situation. You're sure Urokodaki has his reasons. He always does, old and wise and all that.
They better be good reasons though, otherwise you swear you'll kick his old ass to the curb and find a new teacher. Someone who doesn't withhold students from learning opportunities and such.
Thinking back, you knew he would insist on pushing you away, so you didn't put up a fight. You pause at the juncture of the main road and an alley, gazing over your shoulder at where you came from.
Perhaps you should act like a real "brat", as your teacher calls you, and go back? Try and meet with the official. You're not sure what purpose this would serve, but a part of you hopes that meeting an active Demon Slayer might bring you even closer to your goals. Get a better picture of who you want to become in the future.
Because you sure as hell don't like who you are right now.
You stand off to the far side of the street, debating the pros and cons of your idea for a short moment.
Then the ground trembles.
Your head snaps up to peer down the street. Most of the shops already closed and much of the people left upon the sun setting. Lanterns blazing, the few villagers outside chatter amongst themselves under the warm lights, but they lack any reaction to the reverberations.
Your brow furrows. But you're sure you felt...
You pull your gloves off, pressing your calloused palms against the dirt road without a second thought. Shutting your eyes in concentration, you block out the white noise and the common vibrations, quickly filing through them until-
"There it is!" You look up, eye snapping open.
A demon.
Maybe a few streets down or so, but it's there. No doubt about it.
And one - no - two, two pairs of human footsteps. Uneven and stumbling. Children. They're trying to... You swallow, heart thumping in your ears. Run.
You stare into the dark alley, in the direction of the commotion. Biting your lip, you wonder if you should go find your teacher. You wandered too far from Urokodaki, and you may or may not have lost track of yourself in your fury. There isn't time to find him. By the time you do, the demon will escape and the kids dead.
I'm an idiot. You grit your teeth and your hands twitch, the human steps faltering and all three signatures disappear. You curse.
Tugging on your gloves, you dash into the alley, weaving through the streets as you trace the movements. Left. Right. Dead end, damn it! The town becomes a maze. Your boots kick up dirt as you turn corners and leap over walls, steadily catching up to the three signatures' location. Panting, you skid to a halt before training a wide eye down the dimly lit road.
Two pairs of footsteps, running and stepping and hitting the ground. One signature lay still. Just at the other end of the path.
You sprint. It's a blur as you speed towards the group, your view on them growing bigger. Clearer. Figures become more defined. Wind howls in your ears as you grab the first thing you pass by. Two long, wooden stakes, each hooked on one end. Probably supposed to be used for construction or something. You don't think much of it. Your blood roars.
30 seconds.
You find the demon without trouble. He's small from where you are, and his back turns toward you as he focuses on his victim.
25 seconds.
You can't see her, but a girl's scream rattles your eardrums. You feel your body begin to tremble; you press forward anyway.
20 seconds.
Your lungs burn. Your legs ache. Hell, even your eyes throb. But you can't stop, not without losing your momentum and courage and energy all at once.
15 seconds. 10 seconds. 8 seconds.
You clutch the wooden stakes. Your hands shake.
The demon snaps his head towards you and glares, fangs and claws glinting against warm light. It's ugly and hateful. You snarl back as you take a running leap onto the nearby wall, dashing across it before pushing off. You dive for him.
6 seconds. 4 seconds.
Just an arms length of each other. The demon is a man, obviously larger than your small figure. He'll reach you first and you know it. You react instantly.
Grunting, you deflect his punch with the back of your forearm. At the same time, your other hand drives the stake into his face with all your strength. Blood sprays. Wood pierces skin. It hits its mark with a sickening squelch.
The demon roars. You twist, turning his eye to mush as you shove the stake to the hook before he backfists your cheek. The force sends you careening aside, rolling and tumbling across the pavement. Your vision swims.
You struggle to gain your bearings, gripping the last stake in your hand. Gasping for breath, you watch as the demon stumbles. It slams into the wall.
A demon newly turned. You notice it before, feeling his blood run through his arm when he tried to punch you, then as he hit your blindside. The flow, it's not the same. Not the way older, more experienced demon blood does. This guy, he lacks the confidence, power, or purpose. His blood rushes like it is still trying to get used to its new body, streaming through arteries and veins as if lost.
That doesn't make the situation any less difficult though.
You chance a glimpse at the rest of the party. A young girl sits on the ground, eyes wide like you're not real. Soft face stained with dirt and kimono tattered, you'd assume she hasn't changed clothes in weeks. For a split second your eyes meet before hers flicker to the side.
You follow her line of sight. A couple feet behind her, a boy rests propped up against the wall, but there's no blood. Thank gods. But his body is just out of the range of the lamps. It's too dark and your eye strains to make out the rest of him.
Legs almost buckle, but you run to the girl's side and help her stand. "Come on. Let's get out of here before he recovers."
She blinks up at you with what you think is disbelief. But stiffly she nods, following close behind as you go and crouch next to the boy. His eyes shut tight and brow furrows, glistening with sweat. The rest of his face is loosely bandaged, but the rise and fall of his chest is enough to assure you he's alive. No sign of other wounds. You sling one of his arms over your shoulder, and the girl does the same, then on three, you hoist him up. It jostles him, making the boy groan. You huff from the exertion. Kid is skinny but dead weight.
Together, the girl and you lug him down the street.
Sweat trickles down your temple as you struggle to speed away with the additional loads. Your legs burn, your chest aches. And why's it so hard to breath? You stifle a groan.
Bad (Your name) pops into your consciousness. It'd be easier to just leave them behind. Afterall, you have nothing to do with them...
You growl, slapping away Bad (Your name). You push through your exhaustion.
Eyeing your surroundings, you recognize the edge of the shopping district and the corner of your lips turn upward with hope. Now if you could get within Urokodaki's range... You quicken your pace. The three of you make it to the next street.
"Don't think I'm done with you!"
Damn it.
You hear his boots pounding the road as he catches up to you. In a few strides, he's right at your heels, and with all your weight, you shove the girl and boy to the ground. He trips, flying over your heads before he catches himself in a handspring. Twisting midair, he lands several feet ahead of you.
Towards the inner shopping district.
You want to scream in frustration, pull hair. Yours or the demons... It doesn't matter because HE IS MAKING THIS INCREASINGLY HARDER THAN IT HAS TO BE!
Taking a deep breath, you grimace, moving to shield the boy and girl.
Flexing his claws, the demon sneers, "That was a lucky shot, kid. Next time you won't be so lucky."
You opt not to answer, gripping the stake till your knuckles turn white. You refuse to give him the satisfaction of any visible fear of him.
"Playing hero, huh? That's honorable of you. But you understand this is a fight you can't win, right?"
"Maybe," Your eye narrows at him as you further push the kids behind you. "But your eye says otherwise."
About three minutes pass since you gouged out his eye, but the stake is tangled where his eye should be, distorting his sight. The demon regenerates so fast that he can't remove it in time before new muscle and skin take place.
He tears at his own flesh, unfazed.
Blood drips down his face as he growls, "Again, lucky shot. What, jealous I had two eyes instead of one?"
Only one of you. Just one has to stay behind. Keep the demon at bay while the other finds reinforcements. You don't bat an eye at your decision.
It's now or never.
"Girl, take your friend and run. Head for the center of the shopping district. You'll find a tea shop there. If you happen to meet an old man dressed in a cloud haori named Urokodaki, tell'em (Your name) sent you." You step towards the demon and smirk. "And if he doesn't make it over here, I'll haunt his ass for being late again."
You keep your focus on the demon as you hear clothes rustle at your back. The girl grunts at her companion's weight, the heavy thump of her footsteps against the dirt road growing distant.
You wish you feel relief, but the idea of being alone-left with a monster- overwhelms you. Drowns you until all you can see is the demon.
But it is enough of an answer, and you launch yourself forward.

"(Your name)," Urokodaki calls out to you gently, as if words would break you. His steps are slow, echoing through the night. You don't seem to notice.
Behind his mask, his eyes roam over your small figure as you hunch over the twitching body. The metallic scent of blood overrides his senses the closer he gets; it's on his tongue, in his throat, and in all his years of being a swordsman, the scent of blood still made him want to vomit.
Especially demon blood.
Blegh. Something about the blood of demons always made him stop breathing.
He pushes down his disgust, calling you again."(Your name)?"
"Ur-Urokodaki?" You flinch, not tearing your gaze from the demon.
He hopes you don't notice how scared he is for you as he says, "I'm right here, (Your name)." Still, you refuse to turn to him, keeping your eyes trained on the lump of flesh and bone at your feet. He can't see your facial expression. A part of him doesn't want to.
His heart wrenches as he turns his gaze down to your bloodied hands, one bruised a dark purple, and the other knuckles white clenching a broken stake. It drips red.
Your heavy breaths reach his ears, and he reaches a hand out to touch your shoulder. There is no shaking as your muscles stretch taut, ready to spring at any moment. Finally, you look at him and he presses his lips together, heart aching as if you had driven that stake into his chest.
Your eye patch. It must've fallen in your struggle. And now he can clearly see all the panic and guilt that paints your face.
"I-I'm so sorry. I couldn't... " You stammer, your gaze flicking between the demon and him.
Deep breaths. Urokodaki nods in understanding, scanning the immediate vicinity until he finds what he's looking for. Quickly he goes and bends down to pick up the leather eye patch, walking back to you as he dusts it off.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. The demon, he just kept talking and talking and he wouldn't shut up. I know I said wouldn't-"
"(Your name), it's going to be okay." Whether he is telling you or himself that, he isn't sure.
"But-"
Using his sleeve, he wipes away most of the blood, dirt, and sweat from your face. He places the eye patch over your eye. "You did good."
"Really?" You stare at him wide eyed.
"Yes." He ties the string at the back of your head before his hands fall back to his sides.
Your clutch on the broken stake tightens and you turn back to the demon body. "Thank you, but-"
"(Your name)," Urokodaki reaches over to pat your head reassuringly. Then he takes your small fist in his hand but you don't look at him, glaring hard at the demon. As if daring him to get back up. Your fist shakes from the strength of your grip, splinters digging into your palm. Gently, he peels back one finger at a time.
"It couldn't have been helped." Your index finger. "You were pushed into a corner." Your middle finger. "You didn't have any other choice." Your ringer finger. The rest fall away with ease as you relax completely.
The stake hits the floor. He notices the way your shoulders finally slump. He nudges your back, leading you away from the scene towards where he came from. Towards home. "Come on. It's time to head back."
You swallow, "How are they? The other two? Did you..."
"They're fine. The girl did as you told her. You're lucky she had your scent on her. I may not have found you had we not found each other." He glances at you. "But you knew that, didn't you."
You give him a wry smile but that's it. You're too tired to talk. That's understandable.
You've had a long night.

I am now a believer of a thought I just had a few months back. It said
“Excess of everything is dangerous. And the boundaries you decide to not reach that excess is called discipline”
At almost every phase of your life, fate introduces you to certain people, certain things, certain powers, certain luxuries which we get used to. Everyone in this world has a right to enjoy all of these. The problem begins when after a considerable period of time, we become incapable of realizing that these people, these things, these luxuries, aren’t going to be with us for very long. Let me take you through some of these that we often experience or observe, but fail to realize.
Too much of luxuries
In a classroom discussion I had with my professor and friends, we came up with a quote. It was
“As time passes, every luxury becomes a necessity”
The above line beautifully shows that humans grow used to every luxury they have had in life for way too long. I would share the example of someone who realized the same on his own.
Just a few months back, before the lockdowns were put into place, me and my friends had visited Ahmedabad to participate in an event conducted by a reputed college. It was to be a 2-day event so we were given accommodations in the college hostel itself. It was a huge campus and we were in awe of it. We were busy admiring those big gardens, department buildings, libraries and the canteen. This is when I became a victim of something called the Halo-effect. We assumed, since the campus was so good, the hostels would be the same. After the inaugural ceremonies, we were taken to the hostel to freshen up and get ready after a 4-hour journey from Rajkot to Ahmedabad. We reached the hostel and the first thought was, “Okay. Not exactly what we expected, but this is alright”. This thought was very short lived once we entered the hostel. The room given to us was a total mess. It was to be shared with 3 other people. This was however the better part. As everybody else would normally do, the next thing we went to check were the washrooms. It won’t be an exaggeration to say anyone would faint at the first glimpse of the washrooms. Me and my friend looked at each other and without saying a word we communicated to each other “We have to run from here”. Call it good luck or anything, he told me his sister was in the same town just a little away and she would be happy to let us stay at her place. A breathed a sigh of relief, but was hesitant to stay at his sister’s. I knew her personally and called her ‘chechi’, which is Malayalam for ‘elder sister’. She was really kind enough for letting us stay at her home.
This is when I realized, that I had grown used to clean rooms, clean washrooms and good food. A lot of people don’t get these luxuries in their lives ever. The students in those hostels have been surviving in these conditions for almost 2 years now. The lesson learnt from this incident was:
“Too much of luxuries always brings down your ability to adapt to difficult living conditions”
Too much of curiosity
This is an example for the movie buffs. The 1999 Hollywood fiction movie called The Mummy is the best example of curiosity not just killing the cat, but also the people around it. The story was about a British girl, aspiring to be an Egyptologist, who lived with her brother. The brother stole a certain artifact from a traveler and sister identified the artifact from the ancient Egyptian era of mummies. The artifact also contained a map which led to an ancient city which was believed to be lost and also kind of cursed. The sister then talks to the traveler and he agrees to take them to the city. They reach the city after a lot of travelling through seas and deserts. During their excavation, the find a sarcophagus (coffin) that had the body of a priest who was mummified alive for having tried his luck on the pharaoh’s (Egyptian king) to be wife and for murdering the pharaoh. The girl steals a book from another Egyptologist while he was asleep. She figured out that the book could be opened with the artifact that her brother had got his hands on earlier, it was a key. The girl had always been curious of these stories about ancient Egypt and its kings. She opens the book and reads a portion of it and just when she finished reading it, the other Egyptologist tells her she shouldn’t read from that book. But it was too late, the reading from the book had brought back to life the priest who lay dead in the sarcophagus they discovered earlier. The girl’s curiosity about ancient curses led to the death of several other people in the movie, including that of the Egyptologist because the mummy was on a path to kill the people who had dug him up and stole some jars that probably contained his body parts.
A real life example of this curiosity would be the creation of Africanized honey bees. Sometime around the 1950s, the government of Brazil authorized a researcher to create a hybrid variety of honey bees to increase the production of honey. Some European species of honey bee was carefully bred with another species and a new variety of bees came into existence. These new ones were found to be much more defensive than their parent breeds. They were so occupied with studying and observing these new bees that they failed to ensure they don’t escape. Unfortunately, one day these bees escaped the quarantine and spread out across the country and in some years, they were able to reach the shores of USA. These bees have been responsible of around 1000 deaths since then.
The lesson learnt from this was:
“Too much of curiosity doesn’t kill the cat alone. A lot of others have to pay the price of meddling with something they are not prepared to handle”
Too much of power
John Dalberg-Acton rightly said that “Absolute power corrupts absolutely”. When someone is given the absolute power, they have nothing to fear, no repercussions to face and absolutely nobody to answer to. Absolute powers were what created the likes of Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini. Absolute power is the difference between leaders and dictators. Absolute power makes an individual the judge, jury and executioner with unlimited powers.
That is the reason why modern democracies around the world have made arrangements from ever giving rise to a Hitler or a Mussolini in their country. Taking the example of our own country, the Indian system has 3 different pillars, named the Legislature, the executive and the Judiciary. This is popularly known as the separation of powers. This system ensures that nobody in the system is left unchecked of his powers, authorities and jurisdictions. It ensures that nobody is ever in a position to singlehandedly seize power and inflict his/her will on the people.
The lesson learnt from all the past of having absolute powers is:
“Too much of power is just another wildfire left unchecked”
Too much of importance
The people who we consider important in our lives are usually the ones who we look up to or go to in the hour of need. They hold a very special place in our hearts and in our lives.
The instance I am going to narrate for this part is an experience/learning of my own. I had a very close friend. In my entire life, starting from the days of schooling, to my graduation and now the post-graduation, this was one friendship, I consider to be the best till date. This was one person with whom I shared lame jokes, my joys, sorrows, heartbreaks and what not. I had kept absolutely no secrets from this person and neither there were any secrets from this person’s side (not at least that I know of). I had to make zero efforts to have a conversation or to share a secret or something embarrassing with them. There came a time where we used to talk almost the entire day. I was having a great time. I had somebody to irritate and someone who would irritate me. People don’t accept it, but they like to be teased or annoyed by the people they like. This was that one person for me. For almost a period of 6 months, we were the best of friends. I may also have ignored some of my old friends once this person became friends with me. I never believed I could be this open to anyone who I had just known for months.
Things however started to change. There was one week where I hardly received any message from this person. I was a little sad but didn’t want to share this with the person; I didn’t want to look like someone who was desperate to be friends with them. I thought maybe it was just a few days and everything would spring back to normal in the future. The future however didn’t show up for the next 4 months. For reasons I don’t wish to share, the distance kept growing and today we’re just like any other friends that we have. I was sad because I lost my best friend to something very stupid, which till date I don’t understand. I don’t hold any grudges, neither I have any sort of hatred for the person. It has always been a little difficult for me to deal with people distancing themselves. I learnt the real meaning of “Never put all your eggs in one basket”. I made this person into my buddy, my confidant and best friend. I don’t regret being friends with this person at all; I had the best friendship of my life and in the end, I learnt a big lesson, which is not to be forgotten. Mathematics defines circle as a collection of infinite points which lie at an equal distance from the centre. Why should our friends ‘circle’ then consist of just one person? I made a serious error and I hope that I can help everyone save themselves from any sort of hurt in the future.
The lesson learnt here was:
“Too much of importance given to someone, is just an expectation or hope that is about to turn into disappointment”
The entire thing that I just finished writing can be summarized in a single line and that is:
“Too much of anything will hurt too much”

To Duel a God...
It’s been a while since I’ve done a short story for this blog, thought I might give it a try since I’m still under the weather but want to try to stick to the habit of writing. This is a fusion story that I’ve been squirreling away prompts for for a while. I’m excited to finally have enough pieces in place to write it.
The prompts in question are these 1,2,3,4,5,6 by the always amazing @thependragonwritersguild, this one by @thewholekitandkabobble, these 1,2,3,4 by the lovely @givethispromptatry, and these 1,2 by @humdrummoloch. Thank you all for your hard work to make so many amazing prompts ^-^
Story warnings: This is a fight story, so there is fictional violence. It also mentions death in passing, but nothing in any great detail. There is a little swearing, as well.
~
It started with an old memory; a tiny cry from the void of hollow emptiness that had been eating me alive since that living nightmare.
Don’t be ridiculous, you don’t have to be any of those things to become a great hero. After all, heroes of legend are not the strongest or the wisest of us. They are those who had the selflessness and courage to do what was right.
But I know I am not one of those people. I had never been one of those people. If I had been, I would have been able to save him. If I am now, I would be able to avenge them now.
Perhaps my first warning that I still wasn’t one of those people should have been the way her face blanched at my statement and argued with me for an hour over it. Or, perhaps it should have been in my statement itself.
I’m going to challenge a god to a duel at sunrise on the anniversary.
Maybe they’d even add a line to the adventurer’s hand guide dedicated solely to warn against my insanity at the end of this: ‘Protip: Don’t challenge gods to duels.’
“You must understand! It was a hard fought victory; a truce that you are threatening to tear apart!”
“I don’t care. I promised nothing and was privy to no truce. I walk my own path and care little for the gods and their business.”
My best friend, my former comrade, the woman I had shed sweat and blood and tears with just searched my face with a lost sort of expression, similar to the one we had both worn that day, the anniversary, as we stared at the piles of corpses stacked up to impossible heights.
Eventually she sighed, shoulders sagging as her eyes closed.
“Why do you always do this?” she asked, voice tired and raspy.
“Why do you always ask me that when you know the answer you’ll get?”
And those dull, rust-colored eyes opened partly again.
“What’s going to happen to everything after you are gone?”
“I dunno. I’ll be dead, my friend. Figure it out for yourself.”
 She snorted.
“So you admit this will be what finally kills you?”
“It’s more that I admit that I cannot guarantee it won’t, even with my so called talents. Still... can we really just sit back and say we’re fine with how things turned out in the end?”
“Obviously you cannot, and I cannot stop you. Go then, Payback. Do what it is you do best. I won’t join in your foolishness, but I will stand witness to your duel. I trust it will take place in the usual ring?”
A grim smile crept onto my face as I turned away from her desk and began to stride to the door.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
With my friend and queen’s permission, or at least reluctant surrender, on the matter, I set about issuing my challenge. This proved to be the hard part. No priest or priestess in their right minds were willing to send my message to the war god, not even those of questionable sanity wanted to get involved, and several temples threw me out on my ear, quite literally. The last of which was the war god’s high temple itself.
Well, fine then. If I couldn’t get my challenge to the bastard through a third party, I’d just have to do it myself.
I climbed up the pillars, ignoring the indignant shouts of priests and temple guardians as I scaled up the front of the so called holy site, clawed my way through the ornate carvings depicting great battles and heroes, and then finally drug my armored arse over the lip of the roofing to get on top of the building itself.
Standing as straight as I could, I cupped my hands to my mouth and inhaled. Then, all at once, I roared up to the sky.
“WAR GOD!!! I CHALLENGE YOU IN SINGLE COMBAT FOR THE HONOR OF MY FALLEN FRIENDS! COME TO THE HILL OF ROSES ON THE SUNRISE OF THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE DAY YOU BUTCHERED THEM LIKE THE COWARD YOU ARE AND I SHALL HONOR THEIR MEMORIES WITH YOUR HEAD!”
Then, there was silence. A dead silence that was quite out of place for any part of the capital city. I wasn’t even sure if the people who heard me issue my challenge were breathing, but I couldn’t care less. They could hide in fear all they wanted, but I had faced god beasts and their other minions in the fields of battle during our war against the gods. I had looked servants of death in the eye, and even played cards with one during my queen’s negotiations for peace. There was nothing for me to fear from the other side.
Still, I found the silence a bit uneasy. Was I being ignored? Usually, my opponents responded to my challenged rather quickly. For example, you know the wizard accepts your challenge when a crimson bolt strikes. You know a thieves’ guild leader accepts your challenge when you have a knife and a dead snake pinned to the inside of your inn door the next morning. But how does one know when a god decides to accept a challenge?
Blood red lightening shot down from a cloudless sky and shattered an ancient oak that had been on the grounds for centuries.
I guessed that answered my question. The bastard had heard me alright, and it looked like he accepted my challenge. A broad grin split my face. Good, this would be fun.
Two weeks passed with nonstop training and uneasy anticipation. The nightmares of the past came and went in tides, mixing in with the present. Instead of falling victim to them, I used them to motivate myself, remind myself why I had to do this.
Then, the fateful morning came, or rather, the pre-dawn darkness before a fateful morning came. The queen and I stood on my usual dueling grounds, a flat-topped hill crowned with blood-red roses. It was a fitting place to die... for my enemies. Neither of us said a word to each other as we watched the eastern sky, waiting for our old enemy to appear.
Just as the deep blues of night began to turn yellow, and rays of sunlight began to caress the rosebuds, we felt it. That familiar stomach-twisting sickness from raw power. Both of us tensed.
Red lightening struck again, dancing in the center of the ring before us. It balled up, glowing brighter, and then went out entirely, revealing a tall man in strange armor made of heavenly metals and fangs and claws and hides of god beasts. A giant sword rested in his left hand, and a battle ax as broad as the queen’s shoulders rested in his right. Behind him was a cloaked figure I recognized as the commander of the war god’s army. She gave a nod to the queen and I, and we gave a nod back.
“Well, mortal, I believe we have a score to settle. Yes?” the war god’s deep voice growled out slowly, mockingly. “It shouldn’t take us more than a minute.”
 I grinned up at him.
“I would think not. I should have your ugly head ready for my wall in thirty seconds.”
 He howled out a laugh.
“You think you can kill me?”
“I think I can try and if I can’t then at least I can be an obstacle. I might even be able to make you bleed, or worse. Whose to know if we don’t fight?”
He chuckled darkly with a smirk to match.
“You will be lost in the land of the dead long before you make me bleed, mortal.”
A dark smile of my own surfaced.
“ I’m already as dead as my mercy. Come to think of it, you’re the one that killed me, on the inside anyways. You see, after you lose everything good in your life, all you can do is laugh. Laugh because you somehow managed to die along the way, but can’t remember where. But don’t worry, I have just enough mercy left in me to just make my vengeance killing you, instead of killing everyone you care about and turning you into a living ghost too.”
 He sneered at me.
“Bold words for the empty shell of a pitiful creature. Don’t worry, I’ll put you out of your misery today. Witnesses! Begin the proceedings.”
“Yes,” the queen and the general answered instantly.
They both stepped back into the roses on opposite ends of the massive ring. Part of me wondered if they’d be okay, but it was a little late to take that into account now. They ran us through the dueling formalities, asking us to bow to each other, step back the appropriate number of steps, get into our stances, and then they began the count.
“Three, two, one, you may begin.”
They hadn’t even finished saying begin when the war god was bearing down on me, bringing both of his massive weapons down on each of my shoulders. I heard the queen scream, but I could only grin.
Invincibility is a real good time. Whenever someone tries to maim you, they always end up taking the damage. I just wish I had clothes to support that fighting style. Well, the cost of this armor was nothing in comparison to the priceless look of shock on the dumbass’s face when his own divine weapons bounced off my bones and sunk into his shoulders.
“H-how? What sorcerery is this?!” he hissed as he stumbled back.
“Oh, I guess no one told you. What a pity, for you. I’m the last person you want to fight. Every time you hurt me, it just reverberates back to you. My friends call me Payback.”
 He laughed.
“I see, I guess I’ll have to stop fighting you like a mortal, and fight you as an equal!”
Lightening struck me and I felt it burn down to my bones. His weapons glowed red and he swung at me. Instinct kicked in and my body jerked out of the way, but the sword still caught my hand, leaving the first wound I had received on a battlefield in years.I retaliated with my own blade, going after joints and thinner spots of the armor. He blocked, dodged, countered, I ducked, rolled, and stabbed.
The longer the deadly dance of steel and lightening strikes went, the more of my blood dripped onto the trampled grass and hardened earth.
Ah. The one person I can’t defeat. Lovely.
And despite myself, I started laughing at the thought. Laughing as I rolled under his ax’s head and came up right in front of him, only to be kicked in the gut by the boot. I went down, and red lightening made sure I stayed down. As I laid there, jerking uncontrollably, I heard the heavily armored boots advancing on me.
Then, there was a bright white light.
 “Enough,” a woman’s voice echoed.
“Out of my way, Life, the punk challenged me, not you.”
“The battle has been decided, War, lay down your arms.”
“It has not ended, it was a duel to the death.”
I heard her laugh, laugh right in his face. Had to hand it to her, she had nerve. I respected that. As much as a person spasming in the dirt can respect anything, of course.
 “What’s so funny?” War demanded.
“In accordance to the treaty we made with the humans, duels to the death are prohibited.”
“Then why did you allow him to issue the challenge?!”
“I assumed to accepted knowing that you weren’t allowed to kill.”
“And if that mortal were to have defeated me, would you be hovering here in my defense as well?” he demanded.
“Of course, of course, it is my duty to uphold the treaty. Now take your bow, do your boasting, and let us return.”
I blacked out about half way through his big victory speech. Whether it was from boredom or the lightening still working its way through my body, I couldn’t say.
When I woke up, I was laying on the floor in the queen’s office while she scribbled something down with her quill.
“Still breathing?” she asked after a moment.
 “Yeah....”
 “Good.”
There was a long stretch of silence between the tense good and the end of whatever it was she was writing. When she put the quill down, though, I knew I was in trouble. She slowly turned in her chair, rust eyes narrowing at me.
“You know what? I’m gonna say it: you deserved that. You deserved all of that, including the awful speech he gave at the end of your duel. What kind of idiot challenges the war god to single combat? He’s the god of combat you twit!”
And it was half way through her speech that I realized Life had even less mercy than I did.

Tumblr media
      ↳ @mersener asked, “  " Cloud " ( science purposes ) ” ------ultimate ship meme! // accepting.
General:
Rate the Ship -   Awful | Ew | No pics pls | I’m not comfortable | Alright | I like it! | Got Pics? | Let’s do it! | Why is this not getting more attention?! | The OTP to rule all other OTPs (when i was a kid i was absolute ship trash for cloud and aerith)
How long will they last? - ignoring the obvious fate at the end of disc 1, i’ve always imagined it would have been a forever thing. cloud deserved a fucking nap after everything that happens, and he deserves soft things, too. obviously they both have some shit they have to work through but, given how cloud develops around people he cares for, i think they could be a support pillar for one another. let them retire to some unknown edge of the planet and live in peace together.
How quickly did/will they fall in love? - not. fast. at. all. which would you like me to address first: cloud’s trauma or aerith’s? because they’re both dealing with incredibly heavy shit in very different ways. and the hilarious part is that their trauma stems from the same place? shinra? shinra. so, between cloud taking a while to open up and realize he has feelings in general ------ like as a human being, and then for someone else, and aerith allowing herself to properly grieve for zack and for her lost fucking childhood that she represses into sweet smiles ... it takes a bit.
How was their first kiss? - i’m really torn between two gut feelings here. i want to say it was soft because of the above reasons. i also want to say it was soft because cloud is a socially awkward turtle and very obviously has a difficult time expressing himself, never mind emotionally / romantically. so the initial feeling is that it’s soft and tenuous and just full of is it okay if i? my second gut feeling says that it’s heat of the moment. not so much a rush of adrenaline as it is ... if i don’t do this now, i might never get the chance to. the kind where your mouth hurts when you’re done because you pressed yourself so hard and fast into the other person. urgent.
Wedding:
Who proposed? - aerith. bless.
Who is the best man/men? - barret. and like ... nanaki.
Who is the bride’s maid(s)? - tifa, for sure.
Who did the most planning? - aerith.
Who stressed the most? - aerith.
How fancy was the ceremony? - Back of a pickup truck | 2 | 3 | 4 | Normal Church Wedding | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | Kate and William wish they were this big.
Who was specifically not invited to the wedding? - nobody was omitted out of anything other than “this is a small ceremony”
Sex:
Who is on top? - hear me out. aerith, at first and a good portion of the time. but when cloud gets his bearing, cloud.
Who is the one to instigate things? - aerith.
How healthy is their sex life? - Barely touch themselves let alone each other | 2 | 3 | 4 | Once a couple weeks, nothing overboard | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | They are humping each other on the couch right now
How kinky are they? - Straight missionary with the lights off | 2 | 3 | 4 | Might try some butt stuff and toys | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | Don’t go into the sex dungeon without a horse’s head
How long do they normally last? - this varies, like it does with any couple in their physical relationship. stress is a factor, as well as their mental health. cloud is not mentally okay. neither is aerith, but she’s a lot more ... qualified? to handle her trauma. cloud is not, OBVIOUSLY. so this depends on the mood, the day, the stress.
Do they make sure each person gets an equal amount of orgasms? - yes.
How rough are they in bed? - Softer than a butterfly on the back of a bunny | 2 | 3 | 4 | The bed’s shaking and squeaking every time | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | Their dirty talk is so vulgar it’d make Dwayne Johnson blush. Also, the wall’s so weak it could collapse the next time they do it.
How much cuddling/snuggling do they do? - No touching after sex | 2 | 3 | 4 | A little spooning at night, or on the couch, but not in public | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | They snuggle and kiss more often than a teen couple on their fifth date to a pillow factory.
Children:
How many children will they have naturally? - i can’t really see them having a child of their own. if they do, then it’s just one. otherwise, you can easily consider the children of leaf house unofficially adopted because of how often aerith is there, and by affiliation, cloud.
How many children will they adopt? - see above.
Who gets stuck with the most diapers? - aerith/
Who is the stricter parent? - c l o u d.
Who stops the kid(s) from doing dangerous stunts after school? - ... there are no responsible parents in this chat.
Who remembers to pack the lunch(es)? - aerith.
Who is the more loved parent? - they’re loved in different ways.
Who is more likely to attend the PTA meetings? - you really think cloud is gonna be caught dead at a pta meeting? you really think they’d let him bring his fucking sword inside?
Who cried the most at graduation? - aerith.
Who is more likely to bail the child(ren) out of trouble with the law? - cloud. because aerith dragged him down with her to do it.
Cooking:
Who does the most cooking? - aerith.
Who is the most picky in their food choice? - neither of them.
Who does the grocery shopping? - lmao cloud grocery shopping. LOL. aerith.
How often do they bake desserts? - aerith does, quite a bit.
Are they more of a meat lover or a salad eater? - both work.
Who is more likely to surprise the other(s) with an anniversary dinner? - aerith. i love you, cloud. i do. but i doubt you could cook microwave ramen without burning half of the planet down.
Who is more likely to suggest going out? - aerith.
Who is more likely to burn the house down accidently while cooking? - CLOUD.
Chores:
Who cleans the room? - i don’t see either of them being particularly messy individuals. cloud is too uniform for it, and aerith just likes to have a cozy feeling, and clutter isn’t cozy. so both pick up after themselves as they go.
Who is really against chores? - neither of them, really.

Uncharted: A Personal Story
Tumblr media
I’ve been debating typing this all out for some time but never found the right medium, figured Tumblr would be the best shout since y’know, my Fakebook is mostly full of sarcastic, narcissistic asswipes haha so here goes...
(Oh no...not another Uncharted post I hear you say, but bear with me)
I freakin’ love the Uncharted game series (If you haven’t guessed!) the locales, the stories, the life or death run-for-your-damn-life set pieces, the gunfights, but mostly the characters. I think what mostly drew me to the character of Nate Drake was exactly what a friend of mine said when trying to debate that Tomb Raider is better; that Drake is just a guy. That’s the allure of his character. He has the one liners, the attitude, but really he’s just a guy. A guy who is constantly in way over his head, out for whatever he can get. We’ll not go into the whole climbing aspect of the games as even a diehard fan like myself knows that those sections are super far fetched haha.
The games all have a kind of historical and mythological element to them, with the exception of the final entry. The first game had us following in the footsteps of Sir Francis Drake while chasing the treasure of El Dorado, Among Thieves had Drake following clues from Marco Polo while searching for Shambhala in Nepal, While Uncharted 3 drew from the archaeology days of T.E. Lawrence and had players in search of Iram of the Pillars deep in the Rub’ al Khali desert. The Final game had Drake globe trotting to find Libertalia; the pirate sanctuary founded by Legendary pirates Henry Avery and Thomas Tew. So in a way, I guess you could say that the Uncharted games are educational too!
It’s not just Drake that’s the main draw to the games though. His mentor; Victor “Sully” Sullivan (voiced to perfection by Richard McGonagle btw!) is your classic grumpy, sleazy, cantankerous old geezer with a heart of platinum! While Elena Fisher - the love interest - is just too perfect. She’s the ying to Drake’s yang and despite playing second fiddle to Drake for the first three games, you always cared about her and more precisely; about her and Drake in a will they? won’t they? that spanned 3 games before they walked off into the sunset together at the end of ‘Drake’s Deception’ (or so we thought...) cue 2016 and along comes ‘A Thief’s End’, *quote* Nathan Drake’s Last Uncharted *unquote* and before the game has even come out there’s rumours flying left, right and centre -
Drake dies...Elena dies...Sully dies!
It was too much to take! Since 2007 we had gotten to know these characters so well, as fans it made us happy to think of them together and now they were making another game (which we definitely wanted!) but Drake’s final adventure just sounded so ominous! (Hell, even the title was ominous)
I'm going to go ahead right about now and say **SPOILERS** even though the game has been out for 3 years but y’know, some people might want to find out shit for themselves...
Thankfully, despite scenes of heartbreak that were beautifully acted with green room, motion capture and special effects, etc. (so lifelike!) the pair survived a pirate island and Nate’s white lies and truly got the happy ending they deserved. The final entry to the Uncharted series even got a little epilogue where you play as their 12 year old daughter (most sites say 11-13 year old, so hey) Cassie, at their perfect, dream beach house and she stumbles upon the keys to her dad’s (usually always) locked wardrobe which contains little treasures he picked up throughout his earlier adventures. The game ends with Nate and Elena heading off on a sailboat full of cold drinks and snacks, with Nathan starting to tell Cassie the story of the first Uncharted game (would bring a tear to a glass eye)
It was really - the perfect ending - these characters that you’d almost grown up with, saying their final goodbye to you. The softie in me pictures Cassie being blown away by all the crazy stories the pair would tell their daughter. Video games nowadays have just as much pull as that Netflix or Amazon show, it’s so easy to get attached to characters that you almost don’t want to let go, yet at the same time you don’t want them to be bled dry until all believability and all the ways you feel that you relate to them have faded and they’re reduced to a few key phrases...
So...what was the point in this post and what was to debate i hear you ask?
back in 2007 when the very first Uncharted was released, I was in a very dark place. I don’t really like talking about my depression and anxiety, not so much for the whole stigma around it but I usually find that once you open that door everybody starts walking on eggshells around you and treating you different. Maybe that’s just the anxiety playing up but I feel like things are different once you’ve told someone. Can’t really explain it well, even as I try to type it...
I didn’t leave the house except to go and come home from work, I found myself alienated from friends, even when they tried to get me to join their uni societies and such I just didn’t want to socialise with anyone at all really. I never told anybody at home how I was feeling as the whole I’ve had a good childhood train of thinking began. That and It’d be insulting to them. I kept to myself with many dark thoughts and didn’t do much at all. Then Uncharted came along. An exciting game with a great story and a confident main character. More and more I found myself coming out my shell the more I played. I guess you could say that I started channelling my inner Nathan Drake and before long my confidence returned and the D&A subsided...for a time...

fast forward 2 years to 2009 and MUCH had changed! I got back in touch with an old school friend from primary that I had lost touch with, had my good friends Stuart and Alan round a lot for dvd/game nights and also a girl had joined our friend group, Jenny. I was confident, outgoing and full of cheer. Not even work bothered me! It was safe to say that Jenny was flavour of the month after we’d gotten a bit closer (nothing ended up coming of it other than friendship. We still talk nowadays but she lives in Australia, married with a son and I'm very happy for her) Was out every week at Karaoke after work and Uncharted 2 rolled around giving us more Drake, Sully and Elena but also introducing the sexy character of Chloe Frazer among other memorable baddies. With this game I was really in a good place and all it did was further my confidence. The more I played these games, the more healthy I was it seemed. Probably sounds a strange thing to say but I guess it’s like art - everybody interprets things different.
Tumblr media
Jump forward to November 2011 and Uncharted 3 comes out. Now I'm in a very different place altogether. Positively beaming with confidence (some might say overconfidence...I say to them, shaddap lol) and I have a girlfriend. My first girlfriend in 2 years (who would later become my now fiancée, Hannah) I still make time for my favourite game franchise because I'm in a distance relationship and every week my heart breaks and I cry floods of tears at having to leave my sweet girl to come home for work the next morning. Uncharted’s 3rd outing keeps me grounded, keeps me confident. I swear; Nathan Drake was my role model in young adulthood! Despite the feelings of loneliness I work, I play, I see Hannah, I play, I work, and so on. It doesn't seem as bad when I have something to distract me and that something was Uncharted. The fear that Sully was going to die in this game was very real and in points I was almost in tears. That “more or less” trustworthy old git we’d all come to love, he just couldn't die!
Tumblr media
Jump on to 2016 and again different time, different place. Still with Hannah and now engaged, we’re saving up to buy a house. The friend’s dynamic has changed massively. I still see Stuart and Alan but now a blast from the past, Laura, came back into my life. We used to tear into each other in high school (mostly jokingly of course haha) but I always cared about her and when we reconnected we hit it off straight away like no time had passed! now she was getting married (still the best wedding I've been to!) me too - eventually - and we were and still are the best of confidantes to this day. I consider her one of my best friends in the whole world. Unfortunately in 2015 the darkness inside returned with the death of that friend i had gotten back in touch with back in 2009, Steven Borman. The thing is - we had chatted online a lot but in the 6 years we’d been back in touch we never got around to meeting up! Not once. In six years. Either he was working or I was, or I was at Hannah’s or he was at his girl’s...there was always something preventing us from meeting in person and then he died. I didn’t take it well...I have no shame in admitting that I went to a dark place; the darkest place if you catch my drift. It was so hard to process and deal with that there were a few days I didn’t go to work for fear of just exploding and taking my grief out on a member of the public. One of those days I wandered a graveyard and cried (how emo of me, right? haha)
I wouldn't say it passed. It still hurts to think about his loss and all the things that he won’t get to do but it dulled slightly over time. Thankfully a year later and Uncharted 4 was with us. It carried this theme of being bitter-sweet the whole way through (kind of like the end of Toy Story 3 if you know what I mean) and playing out that last, and somewhat more mature, outing though with its themes of love, loss, family and sacrifice, it really helped me find some perspective. I think it’s rare for a video game to do that, even in this day and age with such stories as Last of Us and Red Dead Redemption 2...

Had to throw in a GiF of Cassie (How adorbs is she) but I digress.
Sounds kind of weird to say that Uncharted, what some people see as just another duck and cover, 3rd person shooter, action/adventure game series, I see as my rock and something that has got me through many, many hard times! I can honestly say I think it will stay with me forever. It’s already encouraged and brought out in me the love of world travel and boosted my confidence in so many ways, I don’t even know what else to say other than this - as my sort of closing statement -
if you get pleasure from something, no matter the source, never be ashamed of it, never feel like you have to hide it. If something helps you then keep it close to your heart. For me, that is Uncharted. It has helped me through feelings of loneliness, isolation, depression and anxiety, through personal loss and the darkest of feelings, and though everything else in between.
Nathan Drake and his one liners, Sully’s sombre tones, Elena’s adorableness, Chloe’s...derrière (not even sorry...lol) and even Sam’s cynicism (Nate’s older brother, introduced in the last game) it’s kind of like having/being in a circle of friends that you always knew you could count on if that makes sense
Uncharted was always there for me and I hope someday, when I have kids, I can introduce them to the adventures of Drake and co. too.
Sic Parvis Magna, everybody! Sic Parvis Magna
(Greatness from small beginnings)
