EA considerations for whether to attend law school
Main points:
don’t go to law school to avoid making career decisions; go if you have a clear idea of how you’re going to use the JD. Otherwise, consider the more direct ways to have a large impact.
Summary
Law school is a promising route into high-impact careers in policy and government, especially for people interested in eventually holding senior roles for which formal credentials are highly valued.
Law school is a necessary step to working as a lawyer, which includes some roles that are underexplored but plausibly high-impact, such as becoming a litigator (a lawyer who works on cases that go to court) focused on animal welfare or biosecurity, or designing contracts and governance structures in high-stakes settings.
Some common advice about law school may apply differently to people aiming at policy roles, rather than roles practicing law. For example, earning top grades in law school appears not to be necessary for most policy roles; using marginal hours to pursue relevant experiences and research may be more valuable for people targeting those paths.
Attending law school is not the best path for earning to give; most people considering law school for this reason probably have more promising options that do not require the time and expense of earning a law degree. There is a relatively low ceiling for how much a person can earn in law, where compensation is based on salaries, hourly rates, or contingency fees; roles in business and finance, where some people are compensated in equity, have a much higher ceiling for the highest earners.
Law school is not a good fit for everyone; for example, it is probably not the right choice for people: who don’t have a clear picture of how a law degree would help them have the kind of positive impact they hope to have in the world, who already have a strong personal fit for a high-impact role working on a pressing problem for which there is a short timeline for effective action, who have significant personal commitments that would make spending 50+ hours per week on schoolwork an unusually costly investment, or for whom prolonged periods of stress or frequent discouraging feedback are especially costly.
Readers can test their potential fit for law school by speaking to a current law student or a recent graduate who holds a position they are excited about, attending a law school class, watching a video of a law school lecture, reading a book about the law school experience, or taking a look at a law school casebook and reading an edited opinion that they would likely read while in law school. (2)
If you do decide to go to law school, it is valuable to go in with a clear plan about how you will use your legal education to achieve a positive impact on the world; plan especially to take advantage of opportunities to develop concrete skills, connect with relevant networks, and be on the lookout for opportunities to achieve positive impact that others with different training and backgrounds might have missed.
"Choosing law school to avoid making career decisions is a common failure mode"
"people should only go to law school if they have a pretty good idea of what they want to get out of it, and should not go to avoid making decisions about career paths (though people often don't realize they're doing this)."
"I'm at a stage now where the burnout is real (oh yeah, did I mention that lawyering is hard?) and I'm trying to pivot to a role that has more direct meaning. It's hard. Much harder than it would have been at 22, when you're the young-adult version of a stem cell who could become anything. So my advice to potential law students would definitely be to (if you have the resources) wait out the discomfort of being in a state of so much potential. Try some things out for a few years before making what is arguably a default choice. Figure out what you're good at and what makes you tick. How can you be most useful? There is a chance that the answer includes law school. But I think, for most, there's a more direct path to impact."
I think it is possible that law school can be a part of a great EA career plan, but I would also (as you do) insist that people make this decision after a lot of critical reflection. There is nothing about being a lawyer that uniquely equips you to make the world a better place and my gut reaction tells me that most people motivated by EA should probably avoid it. I'd be very happy to talk with anyone considering taking this path: I would have loved a candid discussion from someone who's been there at that stage.
Knowing what I do now, and given the development of the EA movement in the past decade, I wouldn't have gone to law school. I would have tried some other things, knowing that law school will always exist as a Plan Z.
Prestige matters for law school. Both ranking and name-recognition:
"I went to NYU Law, which at the time was tied with Columbia for 4th in the U.S. News rankings. ... I regret this a little bit because while NYU is well respected in the legal world, it does not have the same name-recognition as Columbia to non-lawyers, and the vast majority of people I interact with professionally are non-lawyers. When people have little else to go off of (and sometimes even when they have plenty else to go off of), name recognition can do a lot of heavy lifting. Silly though it may be, it can really affect how seriously your legal advice gets taken."
Consider MPPs over JD, if considering policy work.
If you are considering law school primarily as a route to policy careers, you should give serious consideration to master’s degree programmes in subjects directly relevant to policy work, such as MPPs. (2)

Role Of Artificial Intelligence In The Future Education Sector
Tumblr media
Artificial intelligence can come in many forms, from personal assistants like Siri to advanced AIs that manage multiple facets of an organization’s operations. But which form will have the biggest impact on the future of education? That’s what we’re exploring today in this blog post about the role of artificial intelligence in education sector.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is playing an increasingly significant role in our lives, moreover, it won't end there. In actuality, it will proliferate over decades. The usage of this technology is already widespread across a number of different industries, and it will only grow in significance for the future of education. Our instructional strategies change along with the advancement of technology. Furthermore, it comes as no surprise that AI is being used in education.
In today's fast-paced world, where technology is constantly changing, it is important for educators to keep up with the latest developments in order to provide the best possible learning experience for their students. One such development is artificial intelligence, which has the potential to revolutionize the future education sector. AI can help teachers tailor their lessons to each individual student's needs, improving overall retention rates. Additionally, AI can help with grading, allowing teachers to spend more time focusing on teaching rather than grading. Finally, AI can be used to provide feedback on students' performance, which can help them identify areas for improvement. If used correctly, AI has the potential to revolutionize the future education sector and improve the lives of countless students.
As the use of artificial intelligence in the education sector grows, so does the debate over its usefulness. Some say that AI can help make the process more efficient and effective, while others believe that it could potentially take jobs away from humans. But one thing is crystal clear- whether it's helping teachers improve their skills or students learn more efficiently, artificial intelligence is a powerful tool that can help make everyone's life a little bit easier.
In the future, artificial intelligence will play an important role in the education sector. Educators could instruct youths more effectively and youths may comprehend more quickly with the usage of artificial intelligence. There are already some schools that have adopted AI-based teaching tools. So, what are these tools and how can they benefit a child's education? Keep reading to find out!

Role Of Artificial Intelligence In the Education Sector
AI will optimize everyday tasks
In the future, artificial intelligence will play a role in optimizing many everyday tasks in education. For example, AI can be used to create personalized learning experiences, automate administrative tasks, and improve communication between educators and students. Additionally, AI can help identify patterns and trends in data to inform decision-making. Ultimately, AI has the potential to greatly improve efficiency and effectiveness in education.
AI will be used to personalize learning
One way that artificial intelligence will be used in future education is to personalize learning. This means that AI will be used to tailor content and instruction to meet the needs of each individual student. In addition, AI can be used to provide real-time feedback to students and help them track their progress. Some believe that AI will eventually replace teachers, but others believe that AI will simply supplement the work of teachers. Regardless of its exact role, it's clear that artificial intelligence will play a big part in future education.
AI will help students find more relevant job opportunities
The future of education is often said to be uncertain. With advances in technology, it's hard to predict what changes will happen and how they will impact the workforce. However, one area that is certain to see change is the role of artificial intelligence in education. It’s predicted that AI will play a major role in the future of education, from assisting teachers with lesson planning to helping students find more relevant job opportunities. One way AI could help is by developing personalized lessons for each student based on their interests and skill set.
AI will make teachers’ life easier
We can all agree that teachers have one of the most important jobs in society. They are responsible for shaping young minds and preparing them for the future. With the advent of artificial intelligence, there is potential for AI to make a positive impact on education. Here are a few ways AI could help educators
Teachers will be able to focus more on the student's emotional needs, instead of being bogged down by tedious tasks such as grading papers or making lesson plans.
In some areas where resources are scarce, AI may be able to provide personalized learning without human input.
Artificial intelligence can also be used as an assistant teacher: it can grade tests and assign homework so that teachers don’t need to worry about managing their own workloads.
Other roles of AI in education
The role of artificial intelligence in education sector is an important one that both educators and students should pay attention to. A variety of organizations from tech companies like Apple, Google, IBM, and Microsoft all the way up to governments like China, are investing heavily in AI tools for use by teachers and administrators alike. Even individual colleges are getting involved with initiatives like Carnegie Mellon University’s creation of a school without students. How these tools develop and how they're used will have a profound impact on how schools operate for years to come. People hope to improve upon traditional teaching methods through cutting-edge technological advancements.

AI can already be used to help grade essays and answer questions, but its role in education is expected to grow. In the future, AI could be used to create personalized learning experiences, help with administrative tasks, and even teach classes. Some believe that AI will eventually replace human teachers altogether. However, others believe that AI will simply supplement the work of teachers, providing them with valuable data and insights. Only time will tell what the role of artificial intelligence in education will be.

Do You Think India is a Good Fit For Online Teaching?
Indian education has been working on transitioning to online transmission instruction, but they are still behind on this technology. The Corona Virus has changed the priorities and shown what will happen in the future of education. With schools closing nationwide, we can see that India's educational institutions will shift to Online Teaching whether they like it or not.
Worldwide, 3/4 of students are under 6 years old. There is an unknown pandemic increasing the risk of 32 crores Indian students. However, it hasn't gotten sufficient attention from global media due to lower funding for health care policies. The Indian government currently spends 4.6% of its GDP on education-less than sub-Saharan countries which spend about 10%. Timely care is needed for quality education but there has been no clear focus on this at all from the Indian government. Some very good indicative facts demonstrate that India isn't prepared for online teaching:
Tumblr media
At the moment, there is no financial relief planned for education from the government, who has billions of rupees to invest in new citizens. COVID-19 had formerly been invested in the long-term, but that was not an idea on how to continue in this present time for the education sector. Without financial support or specific, immediate plans, thousands of new Indian citizens are joining the sector. COVID-19 relief plan has many long-term visions, but without any suggestions of how to continue to move forward at this moment.
This process has created an unorganised and unclear regulatory environment that allows anything and any company to become a teacher without oversight or regulation. The education regulators of India allow anybody and everybody to teach students, with no formal guidelines.
Potential parents in India may not be ready to pay tuition or show positive attitudes towards private universities. Families surveyed believe the fees are too high and want guarantees of seeing their children participate in lectures, if they can't visit physically.
Students are accustomed to being self-directed learners, and can build learning skills without a teacher. They therefore want education that motivates personal development and direction, rather than grades or career guidance.
From day 1 of blended Online Teaching in India teachers have had to develop new methods and adapt to technological change using the skills that they already had. By 2020, teachers were forced to transition their profession and do so with rapid speed due to harsh reality.
Oftentimes, it's difficult to know what exact quality of lectures you're getting. In India, there are no standards in place for online courses, so many of them offer classes that have no value to the job market and employers.

Thoughts on... some funny games
Tumblr media
[no spoilers to speak of]
Thoughts on Lair of the Clockwork God
The wisdom of the gaming cognoscenti insists that comedy is hard to do in video games. Having grown up with Monkey Island and Zork, I've never found this convincing. But one true thing is this: it's hard to write about comedic games. The ineffability of humor is hard enough to describe in less-interactive media; I can't even explain to my partner why Gretchen saying "I met January Jones once!" on You're the Worst busted me up, and they were sitting right next to me when she said it. Throw in the "you had to be there" nature of the player's active participation and I lose myself in a cornfield. The thing I found hilarious might come a beat to early for you, or not at all, or not be funny in text like it is in gameplay.
Why did I like Lair of the Clockwork God? It made me laugh.
The premise and particulars are a lot of "that could go either way." Ben and Dan - stars of Ben There, Dan That and Time Gentleman, Please! - have returned. Ben is still an adventure game star, but Dan has adopted platforming mechanics in an attempt to get with the times. So playing the game involves switching back and forth between a character who can leap across canyons but can't pick up items or talk to people, and one who can combine inventory but can't climb over a 3-pixel rock.
Does that sound potentially funny? Potentially grating? Yes to both!
The plot centers around our heroes trying to save the world from several simultaneous apocalypses and having to teach human emotions to a supercomputer in order to do so. (Don't ask.) These means, rather like Ben There, Dan That, traipsing through a number of fantasy worlds (read: computer simulations) until the correct emotion is provoked. This requires cross-genre cooperation: finding ways to get Ben to areas only Dan can access, getting Dan new power ups by combining objects in Ben's inventory (an act Dan insists on calling "crafting").
The best bits are at these intersections, when Dan's platforming is the puzzliest and Ben's puzzles take advantage of Dan's skills. Periodically the game gives you a Dan-centric platforming gauntlet the controls are NOT precise nor pleasant enough for, or a Ben-only moon logic puzzle that leaves you googling the walkthrough.
But I liked it! A lot. The genre-hopping seems to have invigorated the developers, Ben Ward and Dan Marshall. I discussed my favorite joke in Ben There, Dan That (in what is probably the least popular video I've ever made that wasn't asking for money), but was also dismayed that the game was never that clever again. But this one is, several times over! Progression here involves cheating your way to a better respawn zone, goofing around in game menus, exploiting "glitches," exiting out and loading up entirely other games. There is a lot of poking and prodding at what a game of this nature can or should be.
But, honestly? The only real selling point is... it was funny. The humor is as anarchic and metatextual as in previous titles, but it feels good-natured in a way BT,DT didn't. And there are, here and there, little bits of meat on its bones - the characters wondering if, as a couple thirtysomething white guys, the world hasn't left them behind, no longer comfortable with the juvenile humor of their youth but not really understanding the youth of today, but having not yet fully escaped the mentalities they used to hold. (There's an unspoken humor to Dan's idea of "modern" gameplay being 2D platforming mechanics, especially at a time when adventure games are significantly more popular than on his last outing; this is a good joke whether or not it's intentional.)
Also: this game contains the most poignant urinating-on-a-grave puzzle in gaming history, and you may quote me on that.
Having finished it months ago, I can't even remember what all the gags were that tickled me at the time. Comedy fades from memory faster than drama or frustration. Mostly I just remember having a good time.
Thoughts on The Darkside Detective
Here's a hook: sometime after the mayhem ends in Ghostbusters, The Exorcist, Evil Dead 2, or some other paranormal blockbuster that you watched over and over in the 90's until the VHS wore out, some overworked detective has to come into your town and piece together what the hell happened.
This is his story.
It's a good gag, and the devs wring every drop from it. Existing in a world where these things are commonplace and you have to fit them into some notion of "police procedure" is just funny. Like, it's one thing to have a running gag where you keep observing the moon in outdoor scenes, commenting, with increasing hostility, that its behavior is suspicious (it has been present at multiple crime scenes); it's a slightly different thing when, given the things you've encountered, the moon being the Big Bad is actually somewhat possible.
The game is divided into six main cases and three bonus DLC missions (which come included in the base game now, and the third of which is the proper ending/setup for the sequel). You are the cop tasked to deal with The Other Side - and, when The Other Side bleeds into our own world, its cops have to deal with you. You have a sidekick with a mental maturity of about 6, which I guess makes you the straight man. (You have to grade on a curve to find a straight man in this game.) And you solve tasks like rounding up escaped gremlins or finding an AWOL lake monster all juxtaposed with mundane problems like inter-office squabbles and having not bought your Christmas presents early enough. It's (pleasantly) lo-res and sparsely isolated, so the dialogue and premise do most of the work, but they are ably up to the task.
The gameplay... not so much. I'm an adventure game lifer, so I can put up with a lot of nonsense. It's mostly straightforward inventory puzzles and occasional minigames. Most of the puzzles are fine enough. As the cases progress, things get more involved, and the DLCs especially involve some awful moon logic. And the minigames are not above using that same jumping peg puzzle you've solved in a dozen other games already. So gameplay ranges from serviceable to irritating, but it mostly exists to string together funny lines and silly images. (Christmas mall elves being secretly in service to Krampus - that's the kind of thing we're talking about here.) You won't feel much guilt for opening up a walkthrough; the puzzles aren't why you're here.
The sequel has just been released, and both games are cheap, so check them out if you feel like smiling.
Thoughts on The Procession to Calvary
It's rare for a game to be hilarious to look at.
The Procession to Calvary takes its name from the Bruegel painting. It also takes all it's graphics from Renaissance oil paintings, and the designer delights in making famously rendered heroes and religious icons steal, stab, fart, and swear.
A strong Terry-Gilliam-with-After-Effects vibe is what we're describing.
You play as a lady knight from a war that's just ended, which sucks for you because, in this age of peace, you're no longer authorized to kill. And killing's, like, you're whole thing. But the one person your new, pacifist king wouldn't stop you from killing is the warlord you just deposed, who fled to the South. So you embark on a nonsensical journey to seek out the one human on Earth you are authorized to kill, because killing is just The. Best. Ever.
Of the three games we're discussing, this is the most overtly cheeky, and, at times, the most scatological. I could've done with a bit less scatology, if I'm being honest, but the cheekiness is very winning. As with Lair of the Clockwork God, a lot of jokes could go either way - a field of people being tortured and a woman on a blanket selling commemorative torture merch could be painfully try-hard. But something about the victims being seemingly everyone ever crucified or broken on the wheel in a famous painting, and having them writhe on their crosses in a way that is both gruesome and goofy, and having a cacophonous soundtrack of their screams and moans that you will now imagine every time you look at one of those elegantly elegiac paintings from now on... it works. That the music score is being played by an extremely jaunty piper who dances behind you just out of sword's reach as you traverse the field pushes it over the top.
Oh, and the puzzles, while never hair-pullingly obtuse, will leave you stumped at times. Push past that to get the proper ending, but, if you're sick of trying, you can, at any point, just start stabbing your way through problems. Which, again: it takes a very deft touch to make "protagonist resorts to violence" actually funny rather than lazy and obvious. And maybe, in another game, the perfect timing of every animation, the clever quips, the careful contrast of cathedrals and high-society music halls with gleeful sword-swinging wouldn't be enough. But something about it being frickin' Renaissance paintings carries it the last mile.
This is probably the basest game of the three, but it's also the one that made me giggle the most. Having a BFA that required several art history classes may have something to do with it. But check this thing out.

Undercover and Out of Sight
a smutty Rowaelin oneshot
Link to Hot Professors Collection Masterlist
Summary: Aelin is grading midterm papers. Rowan offers his own unique brand of assistance.
Rating: E for Explicit- not intended for readers under 18!
Contents/Warnings: College Professors AU, Enemies With Benefits, Semi-Public Sex
This take place in the same universe as “Flames On My Skin”, but it stands completely alone. Reading that is not required for understanding this piece, but it’s linked in the masterlist above if you want more enemies with benefits action!
~*~*~
Aelin let her head fall into her hands, sighing as she rubbed at her forehead. Midterms had arrived at Doranelle University, and with midterms came all of the papers from her advanced class to grade.
As the newest professor in the psychology department, she bore the brunt of teaching many of the more introductory classes. That was fine; not only did she like having the ability to bring new faces into the field to which she’d devoted her life’s work, but she had graduate assistants able to assist with grading the tests, since the answers were less open to interpretation.
Her more advanced course on personality theory, though, required a more in-depth and nuanced approach and therefore she had assigned a paper instead of a test. She’d thought it was a great idea, and it was certainly more fair to the students, as they would be able to develop the skills they would actually need in the field rather than responding to a multiple-choice examination. However, that meant she was now forced to read more than twenty papers comparing and contrasting the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the Five Factor Model of personality traits.
Aelin groaned. The paper had been a mistake. At least it was the midterm; there was a less stringent deadline on her ability to read than there would have been if she’d assigned this paper as the final project.
“As much as I enjoy hearing that sound from you,” a smooth voice said from the doorway, “I think I prefer it being because of me.”
Fuck. She’d forgotten to lock the door, and Whitethorn must have seen an opportunity. “What are you even doing here? Your last class was four hours ago.”
Not that she had memorized his schedule. And even if she had, it wasn’t because it meant she would know when he was busy and when he could be interrupted. No, it was definitely so that she knew when she could work without interruption.
Whitethorn smirked from where he was leaning against her door. “Same thing as you, I’d imagine. Let me guess, you didn’t give yourself enough time to actually grade papers, because you thought it would be easier than it is.”
Arrogant bastard. “I have plenty of time, and how I grade my courses has nothing to do with you.” She could feel the tightness in her voice, and she deliberately took a deep breath. Calm and collected. If she didn’t rise to his baiting, he would leave, and she could work in peace.
“Testy,” he mused. “Sounds like you could use a break.”
“From you? Always.”
He locked the door and then shoved himself away from it, closing the distance between them in three quick strides and towering over her. “You know, it’s okay to admit you like what we do.”
Aelin scoffed, turning her attention back to the paper she was reading. “I don’t have to admit anything to you.”
“That’s true enough. And yet you never tell me to leave, either.” A quick glance his way told her he was rolling the sleeves of his shirt to his elbows and loosening his tie. Fuck. She shouldn’t have looked. There was no way his gaze would miss the way her thighs pressed together, or how she couldn’t quite help biting her lip. “Slide your chair back,” he said once he’d finished with his shirt.
Aelin froze, stunned. “What?”
“You heard me. Slide your chair back.”
She complied wordlessly, wondering exactly where he was going with this. As soon as she had, he slipped into the space she had created, kneeling on the floor. His large frame just barely fit beneath the wood of her desk, and if she hadn’t been so confused, it would’ve been almost comical. “What are you doing?”
Rather than reply verbally, he tugged her chair back toward himself and then pulled her hips to the edge of the chair. Aelin gasped as the movement caused her already-short skirt to ride up, exposing her simple black underwear to his gaze.
He remained still for a moment, and Aelin felt herself squirm as he quietly watched her. “Are you just going to stare, or are you going to actually do something?” she asked, feeling her irritation creep into her voice.
He slid his hands up her thighs, and she could just tell he was smirking as her muscles tensed beneath his touch. “Keep grading.”
Aelin frowned. “What?”
“Keep grading your papers.”
It was probably one of the strangest things he’d had her do, but Aelin shrugged and returned her attention to the paper as his hands continued to caress her thighs.
While the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is generally held to be less reliable as a measure than tests measuring the Big Five personality traits of the Five Factor Model, its popularity allows it to be more accessible as a concept and as a measure and has popularized several tenets of personality theory.
Aelin rolled her eyes. She’d known there would be a certain amount of unnecessary wording in order to get the papers to the minimum requirement, but she could’ve laid out this student’s thesis in half the words.
As she went to keep reading, she felt deft fingers tucking her underwear to the side of her outer lips. Fuck, was he…?
“Oh, gods.” He was, if the way he let out a slow exhale a mere inch from her clit was any indication.
His voice was stern when he spoke again. “Keep reading.”
With her attention as fragmented as it was, Aelin realized she’d already forgotten the introduction of the paper and returned to the beginning.
While the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is generally held to be less reliable as a measure than tests measuring the Big Five personality traits of the Five Factor Model, its popularity—
“Fuck!” Her hands clutched at the edge of the desk as his tongue traced along her core. He then proceeded to nuzzle the slick skin, nose brushing the skin just over her clit, and she struggled to regain her composure.
“Be quiet, now,” he teased. “Wouldn’t want someone to think you swear at your students’ papers, would we?”
“And whose fault would that be?” The words came out as a hiss, and she moved to push herself away so she could glare at him.
His hands grabbed her hips to keep her in place. “I’m sure I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Fine. Whatever. He could say what he wanted. But she had to at least try to read this godsdamn paper; he’d be beyond insufferable if he truly broke her concentration. Carefully, she took a deep breath and began again.
While the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is generally held to be less reliable as a measure than tests measuring the Big Five—
His lips found her clit and began to suck, and she gave up with a whimper. Damn him, but he was far too good at this. His little game hadn’t been fair from the beginning, and he’d known it.
He nibbled at her flesh, letting just the faintest edge of his teeth brush her clit, and the edge of pain was almost too much. She snaked a hand down beneath the desk and grabbed a fistful of his hair, holding his face against her as she rolled her hips.
To his credit, he seemed to realize that she was far too close to the edge for him to stop just to be ornery. Instead he allowed her to ride his face, licking and sucking whatever flesh she made available to him. Between his efforts and the thrill of having him under her desk, it didn’t take long at all for her to reach her peak with a soft gasp.
She probably would’ve been more embarrassed by how quickly she’d gotten there if it hadn’t felt so damned good.
Aelin was still in a daze from the sensation of it all as Whitethorn carefully stood, urging her to stand and then bend over her desk. Several papers hit the floor with the sound of rustling paper, but she couldn’t bring herself to care.
She felt him slide her underwear down her legs and lift one of her feet to free her from the fabric, and with a sigh she spread her legs, giving him a view she knew he couldn’t get enough of. Rather than stop to appreciate it, though, he pressed her legs back together with hands on her thighs, and she twisted until she could look over her shoulder at him in confusion.
He simply smirked in response and rubbed the head of his cock against her—when had he pulled it free from his pants?
She shivered and bit her lip. “What’re you—?”
Her question trailed off into a moan as his cock pressed into her. Fuck, but it was somehow even better like this; the stretch of it inside of her always felt delightful, but with her legs pressed together like this the added friction had her grasping at the desk for something, anything to hold onto to keep her grounded.
“Gods.” The word was hoarse, his voice deeper than normal, and when she dared to glance back at him his eyes were fixed on where they were joined. She grinned and wiggled her hips, laughing huskily when the motion caused him to hiss.
In retaliation, his first thrust was just this side of too hard, and just like that they were moving together, any thoughts Aelin could’ve formed lost to the sensation of his cock moving inside her and his hips slapping against hers. Her cheeks were burning as her eyes fluttered shut, but she couldn’t bring herself to feel embarrassed by the deep blush she knew must’ve been showing. Not when it felt this good to let go.
He tugged her hips back just a little harder against his own, giving him just enough room to shove a hand between her and the desk. Deft fingers found and circled her clit, and just like that she was on the edge all over again.
“Do it. Come for me.” His words, rough and spoken through gritted teeth, pushed her over, and she clapped a hand over her mouth in an effort to muffle her cry as much as possible. A few moments later his hips ground against hers as he found his own release, and together they collapsed onto her desk, Aelin relishing the warmth of him at her back for just a moment. She could take a moment to enjoy this before composing herself and kicking him out of her office.
She regretted that decision almost immediately when she felt him brush her hair out of her face and saw the grin on his face. “You’re welcome.”
Aelin growled. “You’re not allowed to be this insufferable while you’re still inside me.”
“No?”
She flexed her muscles around him and watched him grimace at the squeeze around flesh that must have been as oversensitive as she was. “No.”
He lightly slapped her hip before pulling away, and a tiny part of her immediately mourned the loss of him while the rest of her glared at him. He only smirked in reply, doing the bare minimum to make himself presentable before sauntering over to the door again. “Enjoy your grading, Professor Galathynius.”
Gods, but he could make even the title she’d fought so hard for sound like an insult. She growled in response, but he merely grinned and left her office.
Aelin took a deep breath and stood up on shaky legs, slipping her underwear back on and up her legs. Her hair was absolutely a lost cause, so she simply tied it back and made sure her blouse was still on straight before smoothing her skirt back down.
Then she looked at the papers and growled out a curse. Most of them were fine, but a few were hopelessly crumpled from where he’d fucked her into the desk.
She carefully tucked the ones that were fine into her bag before gathering the ones that were worse off and stalking toward his office. He’d gotten her into this mess, and she would make him help get her back out of it if it was the last thing she did.

Oooh fun! Okay, do you have any headcannons or thoughts on a dyslexic Hotch? I feel like I never see dyslexia with any characters really, and I like the idea of him with it. And if you do and you want to write something about it, a dyslexic Hotch with the team (and them being the supportive and protective family they are?) Thank you! ❤️
I hope you have fun, wherever/whatever you’re doing!!
I love this so much!! Thank you :) okay I don’t have much personal experience with dyslexia so hopefully I get this decently accurate. The biggest thing that surprised me when I was doing a quick search is that it isn’t actually a matter of reading words or letters backwards? It’s more an inability to connect letters to the appropriate sounds or to break words up into component parts; a general phonological awareness struggle.
So, as with many things, it seems to me to be a matter of slowing down, learning at your own pace. This ties in nicely with so many of my other Hotch thoughts, I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of it before. Idk what this is, it’s neither headcanon nor proper story but hopefully it’s something like what you were looking for:
When he’s a kid he gets called a slow learner due to his undiagnosed dyslexia. It was much less common to get that kind of diagnosis back then in general and I am sure his dad would have hated the idea of his son needing any kind of extra help. So he’s slow to speak, slow to learn how to read, has difficulty with numbers, absolutely hates being called on to read out loud because it’s actual torture and the other kids have no hesitation about laughing at him. So he becomes withdrawn, labeled a “bad kid,” stops trying because, fuck it, he never gets any kind of support, who cares right? It’s always a fight at home, he starts hiding his work, lying about his grades. This works for awhile bc his parents are distracted by other things. His problems are much bigger than grades by the time they do notice.
However, while he hates school and the way people talk about him and his struggles, like he isn’t even there, he discovers that he doesn’t hate learning. There’s a small library in town where he found he could hide out, no one bothering him for hours if he just sat still for with a book open. He was good at sitting still, at being invisible. But eventually a librarian notices that he’s always got the same book open, some sort of technical manual, that he is rarely turning the pages. She asks him if he likes what he’s reading. He’s just alarmed to be spoken to, afraid that being noticed means he will soon no longer have this sanctuary. He nods and tries to bluff his way through but it’s obvious he hasn’t read it, despite having looked at it for weeks straight. The librarian doesn’t say anything outright, just lets him be for now.
Next time she sees him she brings him a different book, a collection of Grimms fairy tales. He wants to complain that it’s for little kids but is too nervous to refuse it. She asks if she can read him her favorite story from it. It’s dark and twisted and fantastical and he can’t help but be drawn in by it. He’s sad when she’s done reading, wants to hear it again, to capture all the details to replay to himself later. She shows him where it starts, encourages him to read it himself. He doesn’t look at her bc he doesn’t want her to see how upset he is by that, already frustrated by the anticipation that he won’t be able to get through it. But she stays with him, helping him where he gets stuck, asking him questions about the story, making sure it’s making sense to him.
They slowly work their way through the whole collection over the course of months. They spend days on each story, repeating it until he’s confident, she never makes him feel like he’s taking too long or wasting her time. Sometimes has to reread a section multiple times, gets hung up on the language rather than the story but it’s okay, she gives him a notebook to copy down parts that spin too loudly in his mind, saving them and also releasing him from their hold so he can move forward. She lets him keep the book, tells him it was too old to stay in circulation anyway, they had a new copy on order already. She’s the first person who was patient with him, that showed him he could do it, he just needed a little more time, a little more practice than other kids.
In college this is part of why he spends so much time at the library. Part of it is his natural inclination to overwork himself, push until he’s given more than he can in hopes that it might be almost enough. He knows he’s never been enough, why would that change just because he’s in a new place? But the other part is he simply needs more time to get through the coursework, to make it through the excessive amounts of reading he’s assigned. Some other students don’t even bother to read but he would never do that, he makes sure that he not only reads every chapter assigned but he reads it again, takes notes, highlights, annotates, does everything in his power to be prepared. Sure he might work himself to the point of exhaustion, to the point where he makes himself sick (though he’ll try to deny that too) but he’s never caught trying to read something while others wait for his answer, the letters and sounds meaningless, slipping away from him faster the more eyes he feels turn towards him, wondering what could be taking so long. No one ever gets the chance to laugh at him for being slow in college, he never allows them to see that side of him.
As an adult, the leader of the BAU, he’s too well respected for anyone to dare laugh at him but he still hates feeling unprepared. This ends up looking like long nights in the office, reviewing case files to the point of memorization, so that he won’t have to read any of it in front of his team. He can if he has to, he’s developed skills over the years, ways to calm the panic that only makes it harder, can fake it well enough that no one would really notice. Until one day, distracted by a migraine and the fallout of some fight with Haley, he gets stuck. He can’t remember something and he tries to read the sentence that has the information but the stupid word just won’t resolve into sounds that make sense and he just stops talking. He’s glaring at the form like it might catch fire. No one says anything for a moment while he tries to refocus, tries to work around echoes of laughter, decades long past but always ready to jump out at him if he lets his guard down, allows a mistake, a tired moment to derail the image of perfect competence that he’s built around himself. Penelope jumps in, finishing the thought, completing the list of traits shared by the victims. He forces himself to smile at her because he really is grateful, it wasn’t her fault. She scrunches her nose at him, dismissing his silent thanks with a toss of her head. It was nothing, everyone needs a little assist now and then.
No one brings it up and he doubles his efforts not to let anyone see. But he’s so tired on the plane coming back from a case, he’s been staring the same forms for an hour at least. He can feel his ears turning red with frustration. There’s really no reason he has to do this now but the fact that his mind is refusing, almost seems to be teasing him, makes him dig in harder. Emily sits down opposite him, pulling the folder away without asking. He’s about to say something sharp, something he’ll regret saying to her when he really means it for himself, but the expression on her face is so odd, smiling with a frown between her eyebrows. It isn’t pity, she respects him far too much, but there is curiosity and something else, something soft.
“Drink with me.” She slides him a glass and they don’t talk, just look out the window, look at the light playing off the ice in their glasses. He doesn’t see the file again until it appears on his desk, every form neatly filled out, the places needing his signature flagged. All but the last spot, where she’s signed his name eerily perfectly, difficult for even him to see that it’s not his own. Just so he knows she can if she wants to. Equal parts offer and threat.
Penelope and Reid start a book club. Derek joins right away. Emily rolls her eyes when she’s invited, muttering something about spending her free time on more work but they know she will join. Rossi flat out refuses to read the books but offers his house for meetings. Hotch hesitates, wanting to say yes but nervous to commit to an activity like that. He loves books, loves to talk about books. He doesn’t love a time limit on books.
The next time they have to drive to a case, Derek puts on a copy of the audiobook. It’s the first time they make it to a destination without any bickering from the backseat. They don’t get through the whole thing but later he finds a copy of the audiobook on his desk, complete with a disc player and headphones.
A different month, Reid tells him about how his mother always used to read him books and somehow finesses an offer to read to Hotch without him even realizing he’s accepted it. So Spencer comes in to Hotch’s office on lunch breaks occasionally and reads to him whatever the book of the month is. He loves it, remembering the first person who read to him, how shocked he’d been to be treated with patience, with understanding and wondering how he got so lucky to be surrounded by people like her, so ready to support him, wanting him there with them rather than off alone, uselessly fighting with himself to prove his self sufficiency over some uncooperative letters.
Okay, that was so much more than I was planning on but here we are. I hope you liked it and thank you SO much for the idea. If you ever have any others you want to share I am totally here for it. :)
Send me requests!

Chapter Sixteen Point Five: More and More
“Yah-” You hear Yoongi call from the other room, the sound of his voice bringing a smile to your lips, “I’m getting cold.”
The latter part comes out as a whine and it broadens your smile as you sprits a bit of perfume onto your wrists.
“I’m sorrryyyy. This is the first time I’ve been able to do my bedtime routine at your house.” You point out, giggling as zip up your toiletries bag. “I’m coming right now.”
Quickly, you pad across the bit of tile between Yoongi’s bedroom and the bathroom before rounding the corner to peek at your boyfriend.
He’s cozied up beneath the covers, his arms tucked behind his head, brows furrowed as he focuses on the tv.  He’s drowning in the excess fabric of his hoodie and although he isn’t yet aware of your presence, he is still wearing the remnants of the smile that your laughter caused.
“You look cute.”
Yoongi jumps, his fingers tensing against the duvet as your presence alarms him.
“Aish- you scared me.” He pouts but as soon as he gets a look at what you’re wearing, his expression shifts, “Are you wearing pants?”
Giggling, you shake your head and turn slightly, lifting up your oversized t-shirt, “Nope.” And as you respond, you show off your ass to him.
He arches a brow, a smirk playing on his lips, “Oh ok- yeah that’s a good idea you know, pants are really restricting. You’ll be a lot more comfortable...”
“Oh you think so?” Tilting your head, you slowly make your way towards the bed whilst your fingers toy with the ends of your shirt, “Should I not wear the shirt then either? You know- if were talking about comfort here, I may as well just sleep naked.”
His smirk fully develops, his eyes following your every move, “You m-might get cold but, I mean I could just like- yah! Why do you insist on saying shit that you know is going to fluster me? Get your ass in bed.” He smacks the space beside him, brown eyes widening with incredulity.
At the end of his mini out burst, your head falls back against your shoulders with the much louder bit of laughter that leaves your lips.
Yoongi laughs along with you, his heart singing at the sound of your amusement, “Now!” He pushes out the command through his laughter, yanking the duvet back and jerking his chin towards the empty space.
Rather than tease him further, you scamper over to the bed and shimmy your way beneath the covers, immediately cuddling up into his side.
His warm and he smells like amber and the bonfire from earlier.
A hum comes from his chest as he pulls you close, kissing the top of your head.
“Thank you...be nice to me...”
His voice rumbles at the base of his throat; it shouldn’t have a taste but it lingers in the air and it suddenly makes you want to turn off all the lights and listen to him speak forever.
“I’m always nice...” You retort, peeking up at him in time to see his brow arch, “I am!”
His teeth peek out as he smiles, his arms tightening around you, “I wouldn’t necessarily say that you’re ALWAYS nice. You can be mean if you want to be.”
“Meeeaaan????? How am I mean?”
He flops against the pillow, kitten fangs on full display, his laughter dancing above the bed.
“You know exactly how you are mean, c’mon jagi, let’s be honest with each other.”
Pushing your fingers against his cheeks, you use his face as leverage to hoist yourself up over top of him, “Ohhhh are you talking about the edging and the pain play? The kinks my boyfriend most definitely possesses that I, being the loving girlfriend that I am, willingly fulfill?”
He blushes, “Yeah exactly...those things.”
You smush his cheeks together again, pecking the rounded tip of his nose, “Ok fine, we don’t have to do those things anymore, I’ve actually heard celibacy has it’s benefits.”
His face wrinkles in disgust as he jerks his head up to smush his lips against yours, “You’re so fucking funny you know that? You should do stand up.” He mumbles against your lips and although it’s a bit off topic, you can actually feel the difference between you and Yoongi.
He’s different now.
You don’t sense any hesitation anymore.
He is completely vulnerable and you love it.
The trust has increased tenfold.
“I’ll let my advisor know.” You retort, brows raising playfully, pecking against his lips
“AIYAAAAA....” He groans, smiling brightly, “Throwback.”
You feel butterflies in your stomach as you think of all the events leading up this particular moment.
Falling in love has been really fun.
“I still can’t believe I left your house like that, that night. I felt like such an idiot.”
You giggle, “I told Jimin about that the next day, I thought you hated me- I would have never guessed it was because I made you hard.”
He smirks, his cheeks reddening slightly, “I definitely didn’t hate you. I was just annoyed because, I was three months away from graduation and, I really wasn’t expecting to be bombarded with- you.”
“Bombarded?” You raise your brows, a smile lingering on your lips, “Is that how you remember falling in love?”
You feel his hands slide up the backs of your thighs before they settle on your hips as he shrugs, his expression unchanging, “Honestly yeah. I was very annoyed with it all for a long time. I knew I liked you but, I had already resigned to the fact that you wouldn’t like me back. I was also uninterested in getting into a relationship with anyone. Plus, I had to accept that I would have to keep seeing you because, we were paired up. To me, it just felt like another disappointment waiting to happen.”
At his admission, you pout and brush your thumb over his rosy cheek, “I’m sorry that you felt that way. I can understand why you did but, you and I definitely had different experiences...”
The slight disappointment in your tone isn’t intentional but, Yoongi’s keen observation skills pick up on it anyway. His beautiful features twitch slightly as he returns your pout, “I’m not saying that I didn’t enjoy it, I was just stubborn...” His eyes flit over you, a flurry of emotions swirling within them, “What was it like for you?”
Rolling off of him, you position yourself comfortably at his side, feeling a bit of apprehension coming over you, “It was great- for me at least, I don’t know. It’s kind of silly honestly.”
Yoongi pushes himself up, tugging you with him so that both of you are propped up against the headboard. He uses his free hand to tilt your chin up towards him, “It’s not silly at all. I want to know.”
Suddenly, you feel very small underneath his gaze. It’s not in an uncomfortable way but, it’s certainly not something you’re used to. Thus far, you were used to being Yoongi’s safe space, his protector, his rock but, you were no stranger to insecurity either. Yoongi may view you as a confident woman, with a steady head on her shoulders and, he was right to do so.
You’ve overcome a lot.
The woman you are today has always been within you but her emergence is recent and, you’re fairly confident that Yoongi doesn’t know that.
“I didn’t think you liked me either. You are easily the hottest man I have ever seen in my entire life and, given the fact that I’ve been rejected so many times throughout my life, I kind of assumed that we would just be friends.  Most of the guys I’ve liked have only ever saw me that way. It became a running scenario in my head that I would grow old with a bunch of cats and, a bunch of really great friends but, I never really believed that I was the type of person someone would fall in love with. So when we had that conversation on the Ferris Wheel, I felt validated in a way. Here was this super attractive, interesting man who just admitted that he wanted to ‘kiss me everywhere’...I was elated. Even though I didn’t think things would go anywhere between us, I was still on cloud nine. Then we ended up kissing and then the night in your car- I guess this was a little more fairytale-like for me. I understand things were different for you though, especially after everything you’ve told me today.”
You’re not sure why this is suddenly making you so emotional but, you don’t force it away.
Yoongi did say he wanted to know everything about you and, conversations like these aren’t exactly something you plan.
He has been watching you intently during your explanation and during certain parts, you could feel his grip tightening on you slightly.
By the time you’re done, he sighs and shakes his head, “I’m sorry.”
“Why?” You cock your head, draping an arm across his stomach
“I’m sorry you ever had to face rejection or that you ever had to feel like you wouldn’t receive the type of love you deserve.” He runs a hand through his hair, “I’m also realizing that the way I described falling in love with you was fucking stupid and, I made it sound like it was this painful and frustrating process. Why do you even put up with me when I’m literally an idiot??”
The tension in your face starts to melt away and you start giggling by the end of his sentence, burrowing your face against his chest.
He throws an incredulous look your way, tilting his head in different directions to try and shove his face towards yours, “Hm?? Tell me huh? Why do you put up with me???” He demands, tickling at your sides, his own smiling appearing at the sound of your laughter, “Yah! Laughter tells me nothing! How did someone so intelligent and beautiful settle down with me???”
His tickling should force you away from him but, you curl into him more, still giggling as you try and grab at his hand.
“You’re not an idiot!”
He stops his motions, tilting your chin up towards him again, his eyes still playful but sincere, “I am though. I just described the best months of my life as annoying. I used the words uninterested and disappointed, that’s something only an idiot would do.”
“Don’t forget ‘bombarded’...” You point out, smirking slightly as you rest your chin on his finger.
“Yahhh see?” He shakes his head, leaning down towards your lips, “Pabo...”
You kiss him, letting yourself linger there for a moment before pulling away, “Have they really been the best months of your life?”
At your question, Yoongi smiles softly, “Of course they have. I didn’t mean that falling in love with you hasn't been magical. It has. I just meant that initially, I was so resistant because I was afraid of getting hurt. I should have said it like that, instead of being an asshole about it.”
“You weren’t being an asshole.” You counter
“I was though.  You are the most important in the world to me and, I need to stop coating all of my emotions for you in 50 layers of irony just because, I have a fear of being vulnerable. You’re my everything- the love of my life and, I’m so grateful for you. I know that you don’t need me, I know you are complete without me and that you’ve overcome so much on your own but, I need you to know  that you can always count on me and that I feel everything you feel. I’m sorry if I ever made you think any different, even if it’s unintentional or even if you like my sarcasm or whatever, it’s still no excuse to continuously avoid telling you how I truly feel. Especially not after everything you’ve done for me.”
You’re a little captivated by his words and, you don’t speak just yet but you allow a smile to say what words cannot as he speaks again.
“I want to take care of you too. I want you to feel safe with me. Sometimes I feel like our relationship has been very one-sided in terms of you always making time for my feelings and, I don’t want that. I’ve just spent so much time admiring your outlook on life that I didn’t take enough time to consider where it came from. You are always working so hard to take care of everyone around you and, I feel like it’s because you might not have always felt taken care of yourself. I hope you know that you never have to feel that way with me, I’m here for you and- sorry I’m not even making sense anymore.” His rickety laughter makes an appearance as your smile widens, “I just really love you like- fuck...”
You burst out into a fit of giggles and practically tackle him as you hop on his lap again, pulling him in for a kiss, “You’re literally the sweetest man alive and the only thing ironic about you as the fact that you constantly wonder whether or not you are in fact, a good person or a good boyfriend. You are both and I really really really really love you too.”
His gums peek. out at your sudden outburst, his smile adding 10 years to your life whilst his hands grip your hips, “I love you...” He repeats again, “I’m sorry we’ve had several conversations like this, there’s just a lot to work through I guess and, I feel like I don’t ever say enough or say the right things...”
“Don’t apologize. You’re completely right. We are both trying to navigate through some pretty intense shit. I’m glad we can have these conversations; it means that we are continuing to learn how to communicate with one another.” You assure him, kissing the tip of his nose.
“That’s a good point. You make a lot of good points.” He notes playfully, kissing your cheek this time, nibbling there, relishing in the sound of your laughter once again. “I know we’ve said it a dozen times now but, I love you...”
“I love you too.” You murmur before wrapping your arms around him.
After a rather sporadic and emotional conversation, you and Yoongi decide to put on a comedy special to lift the bit of heaviness from the atmosphere. You really wanted to enjoy each other’s company before the stressful few days ahead.
You knew it wasn’t going to be easy for him to go back to his hometown and, you also knew that it would be nerve wracking for you for a myriad of reasons.
Either way, you’d endure it together and meet the conflicts as they came.
Right now however, your mind is occupied with a completely different objective.
You’d been laying on Yoongi’s chest for the last hour or so whilst he rubbed tenderly along your back.
He traced your spine, gently pinched at the base of your neck and occasionally massaged at your scalp.
Altogether, you felt content, fuzzy, on the edge of arousal but not quite that there yet.
You’re touching him too now, your hand was resting on his stomach but you’ve started rubbing at his side, slowing and softly dragging your nails over his hoodie.
The thing is, you had been getting to each other for some time now but, there was no reason to rush into anything more.
You just wanted to touch each other, simple as that.
Your hand moves to the bottom of his hoodie, tracing the stitching before slipping underneath it.
As soon as you do, Yoongi’s hand stalls on your back as he sighs.
“Why do you have to go there?”
His tone is playful and accusatory and it causes you to giggle.
“I’m not going anywhereeeee.” You insist, tickling your fingers over his lower abdomen
“Y-yah jagiyaaa- you know what that does to me.”
His voice stutters a bit whilst you continue your motions, tickling back and forth above the band of his boxers, admiring how soft his skin is.
“Do you want me to stop?”
He smirks to himself, resuming his touch against your back, “No- but if you plan on getting me hard, you should probably come up here and start kissing me.”
You smirk too now, pushing up his hoodie to allow you better access to the rest of his stomach, admiring the goosebumps that start appearing on his skin.
“Maybe I wanna watch you get hard...”
You hear him sigh again, his chest heaving with the sound.
“Fuck, ok.” He chuckles to himself, “Fair enough.”
Sure enough, you get to watch the show you desperately wanted to see because, as you trace over the band of his boxers, his dick jumps to life beneath the cotton.
A satisfied grin plays on your lips and you take the opportunity tickle just beneath his belly button, prompting another bout of twitching from his dick.
“You know...” You murmur casually, continuing your teasing, “You’ve still never came in my mouth before.”
You feel the bluntness of his nails press into the skin of your back at your comment, another unstable sigh coming from him once again, “I haven’t.”
Slowly you sit up, finally turning to face him, resting your hand on his stomach.
You smirk down at him, his head pushed back into the pillow, a smile playing on his lips.
“Can we change that?”
He’s going all shy at the thought of being in your mouth again and he can’t figure out why.
You notice the blush on his cheeks and the timid gummy smile on his lips and, you decide to call him out on it.
“Why do you look so nervous??” You giggle, pinching his cheek
A bout of laughter bubbles past his lips like a bottle of soda that’s been shaken too much as he attempts to answer you.
“I don’t know!” He buries his face into the side of your arm, “It’s embarrassing...”
Fondness blooms in your chest and you immediately lay back down with him, pulling the covers over the two of you.
You wrestle around a bit, tucking yourself against him once more, the two of you giggling like two kids at a sleepover.
Yoongi kisses the side of your face, his own hot with arousal and embarrassment.
“Baby, you’ve literally let me tie you to the headboard...”
“Mm, I sure have...that was a good night.” His voice is deeper now as he starts kissing down your neck, “a really good night.”
“Do you not like it?”
He smirks against your neck, sucking lightly at the spot below your earlobe, sending a wave of arousal between your legs, “Are you really asking me whether or not I like getting my dick sucked?”
“WEeellll.” You laugh, relishing in the way his attention feels, slowly getting distracted by his lips on your skin, “You never let me do it for you. I’m just trying to understand why.”
Before he can answer, a screeching voice comes from the other room, “HYUNG-AHHH!!”
Yoongi’s eyes widen in alarm as he immediately maneuvers his way out of the covers and rushes out the door, tugging his hoodie down in an attempt to conceal his hardened length beneath his boxers.
“What, What’s wrong?! Where are you?”
You’re following after him frantically, your heart pounding wildly in your chest. Yoongi’s shouting in Korean and you’re trying your best to follow him up the stairs without tripping over your own feet.
“Here! Oh god, please hurry!”
Yoongi’s playing a thousand horrible scenarios in his head, trying desperately to locate Hoseok before he spots the light on in the hallway bathroom, “What’s wrong? Did you fall? Are you hurt???”
You can’t understand Yoongi but, his tone tells you everything you need to know: he’s terrified.
“There! Hyung oh my god, do you see it? It’s so big and hairy! Kill it please, I’m gonna throw up!”
Hoseok is rushing out of the bathroom with nothing but a towel around his hips and pure panic on his face.
Yoongi’s expression shifts from terrified to utterly disgusted in record time as he backhands Hoseok across the bicep, “YAH! What is wrong with you huh?! You made me think you snapped your neck up here or something! Are you seriously screaming over a spider right now? You’re 26 years old.”
Hoseok seems unphased by Yoongi’s words and points frantically at the bathroom, “Hyung I don’t care, just please kill it. You know how much I hate bugs, I almost had a heart attack.”
Yoongi is actively trying to conceal whatever seems to be transpiring but, the curiosity gets the better of you and you rush over to look in the direction Hoseok is pointing only to be met with the grossest, hairiest, BIGGEST spider you’ve ever seen.
“Yoongiiiii.” You whine, hiding behind him, your heartrate doing the impossible and increasing in your chest, “Oh my god, please get rid of it...”
Yoongi groans audibly, shaking his head at Hoseok, “You idiot, she’s terrified of spiders. We were literally about to- fuck nevermind just stay right here, I’ll go get a jar.”
He turns around, chuckling slightly at the almost childlike expression on your face, “I’m gonna get don’t worry. Do you want to come downstairs with me while I get a jar for it?”
Wide eyed, you grab his hands haphazardly, “Mhm...”
“Ok...” He leans down to peck your cheek, smirking fondly “Let’s go.”
“Yah what about me huh? What am I supposed to do?!” Hoseok returns to English now, eyeballing the bathroom in horror
Yoongi rolls his eyes, “Just stay there and try and summon some dignity. I’ll be right back.”
Hoseok scoffs and leans against the wall, “I have enough already thanks-” He insists before his eyes widen again, “Hyung please hurry it’s moving!!!!!”
Yoongi chuckles and shakes his head, interlocking his fingers with yours as he leads the two of you downstairs.
The two of you are back in a flash and you quickly take your place behind Hoseok as your boyfriend completes the task of scooping the spider into the jar and rushing it outside.
As he trudges back up the stairs he extends his hand out to you, which you eagerly accept.
Hoseok had already calmed down by this point and was attempting to make smooth small talk with you as if his (justified) outburst had never happened.
“Well uh” Hoseok laughs, throwing finger guns towards the bathroom, “Thanks hyung, so sorry to interrupt the lovemaking, I’m just gonnnnaaa head into the shower now-”
“Ah- no you aren’t. You’re going to apologize to my girlfriend for scaring the shit out of her and then you’re going to promise me that you’ll never scream for me like that again unless you are in mortal danger.” Yoongi shoots him a pointed look but there is still a bit of softness in his eyes and a smile threatening his lips.
“I’m so sorry Y/N, I had no idea you had a phobia of spiders.  That was definitely my bad. And hyung,” He shoots a brilliant smile in his direction, throwing up a finger heart, “I love youuuuuuu. Thanks for saving my life.”
“Don't be sorry; I literally would have done the same thing.” You vow, giggling nervously, furthering retreating into Yoongi’s side.
Yoongi snorts, wrapping an arm around you and sending Hoseok on his way before he gently pinches your side, “Are you ok?”
“Absolutely not.” You affirm, “But, I will heal as time goes on...”
He snickers, shaking his head whilst he leads you back downstairs.
“I swear he almost gave me a heart attack.” He shakes his head, placing his free hand on his chest, “Feel- it’s still beating so fast...”
You push your head against his chest, causing him to laugh again, not expecting the method you chose but he allows it none the less.
His chest is thrumming with the evidence of commotion still and you turn your head quickly to press a kiss to his chest.
“Me too- look...”
As the two of you come back into his room, you guide his hand to your chest in order to demonstrate your fast paced heartbeat.
Yoongi shakes his head, “I’m sorry about him, he’s ridiculous.”
You nod, glancing down at Yoongi’s boxers which no longer display the evidence of his arousal and, you whine, keeping his hand in place on your chest.
“You’re not hard anymoreeeee.” You complain, slumping against the wall near the bathroom. Yoongi laughs, his gums peeking out whilst you guide his hand over your breast, “Squeeze-” You giggle, indulging in your immaturity for a moment, “We’ll bring it back...”
He laughs harder, his beautiful face wrinkling in amusement as he obliges, squeezing your breast.
“Are you hard yet???” You ask through your laughter, tugging him closer to you, tilting your head towards his lips.
“Oh yeah-” He nods to his dick, still laughing, “Rock solid...”
He kisses you then, keeping his hand in place as he smiles into your lips.
The giggling between the two of you slowly fades as Yoongi tucks his mouth betwixt your own. He kisses you tenderly, his free hand curving around your waist and securing you to him. The hand on your breast massages you gently for a moment before he feels around for your nipple. Once he locates it, he begins teasing it between his thumb and his forefinger, smirking into your mouth when you sigh at the sensation. The two of you press further into one another, getting lost in the moment before you decide to resume your earlier mission.
“Can I pleaaaase make you cum in my mouth now?” You murmur against his lips, giggling when he blushes again, attempting to hide his face in your neck. “Babyyyyy what is it? Why are you hiding?”
His arms wrap around your waist now, sandwiched between your body and the wall. He shakes his head, pressing kisses into the crook of your neck whilst he tries to figure out the best way to answer your question.
“Nervous.” He mumbles and you can feel him smirk into your skin.
Your heart is exploding with adoration at how fucking cute your boyfriend can be literally out of nowhere.
His duality gives you whiplash sometimes.
“Why are you nervous?”
His grip tightens on you as you attempt to coax his face out of your neck, snickering when you try to pinch his cheek.
“I’m gonna cum too fast.” He confesses, finally pulling away to make eye contact with you, his black hair disheveled atop his head.
You giggle, smoothing out his messy onyx tendrils before bringing his lips down to yours.
“So what?” You murmur against them, “It doesn’t matter how quickly you cum, I just want to make you feel good...”
Yoongi feels a sharp pang of arousal in the pit of his stomach at the sultry tone of your voice, his dick twitching to life between his legs.
“I just feel like you don’t get anything out of it though...I want you to feel good too.” He protests, sighing out through his nose when you slip your hand beneath his hoodie.
You smirk, tickling over his sensitive skin, “Do you really think I don’t get anything out of having you in my mouth?”
Peppering kisses down his neck, you continue to gently roam your hands over his hips and stomach, ensuring that your motions are slow and deliberate.
“I’m really second guessing getting head right now aren’t I? I’m actually overthinking getting a blowjob, I’m fucking ridiculous...” He laughs now, hugging you to his body, his smile widening when you giggle along with him.
Pulling back away from his neck, you nudge his nose, delighting in the sparkle within his eyes before pecking at his lips, “Do you want it? If you’re feeling weird about it, it’s ok. We don’t have to do it.”
He smirks, his hands sliding down your back to rest against your ass, “No, no I want it. I really do, I’m just being...myself.”
His honesty makes you laugh again.
You’re so grateful for it though.
The comfort level between the two of you is off the charts and, it makes you so incredibly happy.
From the lecture hall to the bedroom; the two of you really have come so far.
“Go lay down then...” You urge him, still smiling as he eagerly rushes towards the bed.
He flops back against the pillows, folding his arms behind his head and immediately tucking a lip between his teeth. His breathing is already unstable due to all the kissing but, he knows he’ll have to actively calm himself in order to last.
You place your knees on the bed between his legs and maneuver yourself closer to the seam of his boxers. You don’t feel the need to try and be sexy or dramatic, the intimacy floating between the two of you is more than enough to turn you both on.
However, in the spirit of making your boyfriend feel good, you still want to put on a little bit of a show for him.
“Comfy?” You grin and he immediately rolls his eyes, his lip still tucked between his teeth
“Sure.” He throws a half smirk your way and although it’s not his intention to do so, it spurs you on further.
There’s never a bad time to fluster your boyfriend...
Wordlessly, you grasp the hem of your oversized t-shirt before tugging it over your head, leaving you in nothing but a pair of black boy shorts.
Yoongi’s eyes widen ever so slightly and his chest expands to fit the deep breath he just took, the breath he lets out slowly and shakily.
“So am I.” You smirk, sitting back on your knees to give him the full view of your body. The air of Yoongi’s bedroom is crisp and slightly cooler than you’d like it to be and it causes your nipples to harden, aching for the warmth of his touch. With your hand lingering on your inner thigh, you sigh, “My panties are ruined already-” You pout, “That’s really annoying...they’re going to be drenched by the time you cum.”
Yoongi squeezes his eyes shut whilst he lets out an audible groan, “Ok- what the fuck? You’re not even giving me a chance to last at this point...” He laughs humorlessly, his eyes opening and going straight between your thighs, “Let me see.”
You smirk at his bout of laughter, delighting in how flustered he looks before honoring his request.
Dipping your hand beneath the band of your underwear you slide your fingers over your clit, which is honestly a terrible idea because now it’s throbbing with the need to be played with and,  swipe your fingers over viscous arousal collecting at your entrance.
Yoongi watches you like a hawk, eagerly awaiting the evidence supporting your previous statement.
He isn’t disappointed when you remove your fingers from your panties to show him the stringy, slippery arousal connecting your digits together. The amount of wetness actually surprises you and the way Yoongi looks at you, only worsens the situation between your legs.
Yoongi sits up suddenly, grasping your wrist with both of his hands, eyeing the moisture on your fingers like a man deprived before sucking both of them into his mouth. You feel his tongue lick between them, collecting you, the sensation quickly mirroring itself in your panties. Eyes fluttering close, you allow him to suck on you for longer than necessary, your heartrate quickening as he groans softly against your skin.
He pulls off of you, allowing his lips to linger on the tips of your fingers, his cat-like eyes flitting up to yours. Wordlessly, he brings his hand off the bed and quickly slips it into your underwear. Before you even register what’s occurring, the pads of his fingers are brushing past your clit and tucking themselves inside of you. Your lips part in shock, your hands coming out to brace against his shoulders as he curls them up against your g-spot.
Wide eyed, you meet your boyfriends smug expression as he starts rocking his fingers upwards inside of you.
“Yo-Yoongi...” You grunt, as the pleasure latches on to the pit of your stomach, the sensation unlike anything you’ve ever felt before.
“Mhm, I know- it's good huh?” He chuckles, using his free hand to brace itself against your back, pushing your body against his hand working between your thighs, “You thought I’d just have a little taste and that was it? That’s all I would want?”
“Fuck...” You whimper, your head slumping against his shoulder, leaving his lips at your ear to say whatever filthy things come to mind.
He quickens his pace and the pleasure is so intense that you have a half a mind to tell him to stop because you kind of feel like you’re going to pee yourself but, the next wave of sensations quickly sends that thought to the trash.
“Have you ever squirted before baby?” He croons into your ear, holding you tightly
Your head shakes rapidly, your eyes squeezing shut as you bury your face into his neck, “N-Not with anybody...”
You’ve certainly made yourself squirt before but it was unintentional and definitely didn’t compare to the way Yoongi was making you feel.
He grins, nibbling on the shell of your ear, his breath sending a shiver down your spine, “I think you’re about to, I can feel how tight you are around my fingers. Do you want to cum all over my hand jagiya?”
“Mhm-” You whimper, tucking both of your lips between your teeth as you try your hardest not to moan, “Yoongi...”
Yoongi can feel how hard he is now, his swollen dick nearing the edges of pain from neglect but, his focus is entirely on you and making sure you get yours before he thinks of himself.
“Are you gonna say my name when you cum beautiful?” He whispers, quickening his pace once again, his grin broadening when you nod rapidly in his neck, your legs spreading further to the point where he’s having to fight against the mattress to keep at it.
“On your dick- please? Please can I cum on your dick?” You plead, sucking on his neck now, not fully coherent because all you can think about is cumming.
“Oh my fucking god.” He groans, shaking his head
He’s never heard you ask for his dick like that before and, who is he to deny his perfect girlfriend the throne she so aptly deserves?
“Come get it baby.” He pleads, pulling back to look into your eyes, “Come take it, it’s yours, use it...”
You’re on him seconds later and his fucking up into you with everything he has, biting his lip hard enough to draw blood so he doesn’t wake his roommates.
With your hand over your mouth, you whine into your palm as your orgasm approaches. Yoongi smirks proudly at you, saying everything you need to hear to push you over the edge.
“Beautiful...you’re so beautiful.”
“Please cum for me...”
“Cum all over me.”
“I love you...”
Yoongi’s successful in his plan to make you squirt and by the time he finishes inside of you, you’re a proper mess.
The orgasm he’s given you is intense and for once, you’re the one shaking in his arms, trying to get your wits about you. Lovingly, Yoongi places kisses all over your face and the side of your head, his big hands massaging gently into your back as he helps you come down, even though he’s attempting to relax after his own orgasm.
“D-damn you, that was not the plan.” You mutter, playfully nibbling on his shoulder
He chuckles warmly, still kissing on you, “It wasn’t a part of your plan but, let’s just assume that my plan will forever involve making you cum like that, that was- shit that was really hot.”
“Yoongiiiiii....” You whine, feeling very needy and slightly embarrassed, “You made me ruin the sheets though, I feel bad.”
You hear him scoff incredulously, “Yoongiiiiiii I’m so sorry my beautiful body just had a powerful orgasm all over your sheets, how rude of me, I’m so disrespectful.” He imitates your voice playfully, chuckling louder as you wack him against the shoulder, still hiding away in his neck.
“Shut uppppppp.”
“You are always the one making me cum so hard that I question my sanity. After everything you’ve been through with me today, I wanted to return the favor. You did exactly what you deserved to do; if we didn’t have a flight to catch tomorrow, I’d have my hand in your panties all over again.”
Yoongi's bedroom is dark now as the TV has turned itself off due to lack of activity but, despite the absence of light, you can still feel how wet the sheets are beneath your bodies.
It has you all shy for some reason, reminding you that although you usually take the dominant role in the bedroom, you still have a desire to be small, to be held, to be taken care of...
It felt good to let him do that.
“Thank you.” You murmur, wrapping your arms around his back, pecking the side of his neck, “It was amazing, you’re amazing.”
He smiles in the darkness, “You deserve it.” He thumbs across the cheek that isn't hidden away in his neck, “Are you going to let me take care of you more often? Have I proven myself worthy mistress?”
The nickname isn’t something he’s used before and it both amuses you and intrigues you all at once. You laugh, nodding in agreement, kissing his skin again, “Mhm, more than worthy.”
Yoongi knows he has to change the sheets.
He knows the two of you need to get some sleep.
But for the moment, he wants to stay still.
He wants to love on you and make you feel all the things you make him feel.
He wants to do everything you’ve done for him.
He’s in this for the long haul and he knows it.
This is that forever kind of love.
That I want to marry you kind of love.
That I adore every inch of you kind of love.
He’s found it, it’s all his and he wants to spend the rest of life proving to you how grateful he is.
...how in love he is.
….how lucky he is.
“I love you.” He whispers
“I love you too.”

Pairings: slight Logince, eventual Prinxiety & Logicality
Word count: 2,142
Story summary: Roman Prince is your stereotypical Jock, with everyone swooning after him. Every day a crowd of people follow him around, only to disperse at his personal whim. In reality, he's lucky to have such good acting skills that help him cover up the disdain he has for his life. He only wishes he could use his skills properly.
Patton Whitelock's always there to lend a helping hand, no matter who you are. If you need a favor or just need someone to talk to, go to him. In reality, he's been taught from a young age that kindness should be held above all else. No one suspects that he took it the wrong way.
Logan Montgomery is the smartest boy in the Senior class. He's stern, and most people are too intimidated to speak to him. In reality, he despises most all of his fellow students. He sticks to his studies and doesn't stray, for fear of being stuck in his father's shadow his whole life.
Virgil Black is the most emo kid in school, let alone 12th grade; everyone knows to leave him be. In reality, he's very fortunate. He has two parents who love him dearly. But everything beyond his life, everything within his mind, is utter chaos and turmoil.
what will happen when they're assigned a biology project together?

...
Finally, it was Friday. Between classes, Virgil was pacing quickly down the hall when he noticed Logan exchanging things from his locker. He also saw Roman approaching the tall boy, adorning a mischievous smile. Virgil decided to slip out of sight behind the bustle of the hallway to observe their interaction, staying hidden near the walls.
Roman stood directly behind Logan and tapped him on the shoulder. Logan turned fully around, and upon seeing Roman, he opened his mouth to speak. He was quickly was interrupted, however, as Roman put his hand against the locker at Logan's side, and traced his other hand down Logan's button-up-covered chest. Logan was pinned against his open locker. Virgil couldn't make out the things Roman was saying to him, but Logan looked blatantly... caught off guard, to say the least. His pearly white cheeks were dusted pink. After a few moments, he pushed Roman aside and made to leave, but Roman grabbed him by the tie and pulled him back. They'd switched positions, Logan having put his pale bony arm out to stop himself from falling. Roman was still pulling his tie, smirking and looking into his eyes deviously. Virgil read Roman's lips and thought he saw "-if you're into that." Logan was clearly getting frustrated and forced his tie away, collecting his book bag from the floor and shooing Roman so that he could close his locker. Virgil saw Logan speak, and made out something like "I'll be late for class."
What a couple they made. Virgil felt something heavy growing in the pit of his stomach. Roman had left to go to his class as well, and the halls were becoming more and more empty as students filed into various classrooms. Finally the bell rang, and Virgil felt like he couldn't move to save his life. He started scratching his wrist and felt his breathing become uneven. No, not here, not now. He forced himself to breathe normally and made his way to his next class.
...
Later that day, Patton was lying on Virgil's bed, throwing a bouncy ball up and catching it in a slow rhythm. Virgil was seated at his desk right beside Patton, vaguely attempting to finish his French homework. Not like it'd be due until Monday anyway.
Patton and Virgil had been good friends from a young age, and usually hung out like this around twice a week. Every now and then they'd do something special, but usually it was just being together and talking.
Virgil knew a lot about Patton, more than most people do. He knew about his best friend's current... sticky home situation, and so he never questioned it when Patton came up to him later in the school day with a sorrowful glint in his eyes, asking if they could go back to Virgil's house that evening.
"Do you think they had a nice date yesterday?" Patton said after a minute or two of calm silence. Virgil looked over at him. He'd stopped throwing the ball, and was now inspecting its strange colorful surface, scratching at little flakes of plastic that hung off its seams. Virgil thought to himself how it was so strange that these types of bouncy balls always seemed to practically glow when exposed to light, even though they had no sparkles or shiny qualities about them.
"I guess I don't know. Roman might have ruined it with his overconfidence and ridiculous antics," Virgil finally replied, leaning back in his chair and staring at the ceiling. "Especially if he did something like take them to some 5-star family-owned Italian restaurant where you get kicked out unless you're wearing a waistcoat and you have to make a reservation a year in advance," he mused. Patton giggled a little.
"Yeah, that sounds like Mr. Prince," He offered a little quieter than he wanted to. Virgil eyed him with concern.
"You haven't really been thinking much of it, have you?" Virgil turned fully toward his bespectacled friend now, who was just staring blankly, clutching the bouncy ball to his chest. "I mean, I don't think it'll be much of a distraction to our project than Roman already is. And besides, I really doubt that Logan will go for a second round," Virgil dismissed the notion bitterly, and Patton wondered when Virgil had developed such a resentment against Roman.
"Well," Patton started, sitting up and pulling his legs into a criss-cross applesauce, "I'm surprised Logan wanted to in the first place. I don't think he has ever dated anyone, let alone someone so..."
"I know what you mean." Virgil got up to sit criss-cross applesauce with his friend on the bed. They looked at each other and giggled a little, remembering how they used to do this as little kids. They were just like brothers in a way.
Virgil noticed Patton pulling at his ring again, and knew something was up. "Hey," He said, taking Patton's hand. Patton looked up at him nervously from behind his big round glasses, his blonde curls hiding the top trims. "What's up?"
Patton made a noise that was something between a scoff and a sigh, looking away but not pulling away. "I just..." He thought for a long moment on how to begin what he wanted to say without saying what he didn't want to say... not yet, anyway. "I want Logan to be happy. He's a, good friend," A smile curled at the edges of his mouth. "I don't think Roman makes him... unhappy, per se. I think they could be really," Patton pulled his hand back and started fidgeting with his ring again, "close... but I don't know if, them being together will make Logan happy. W-will make either of them happy." He looked up at Virgil then, who was stoic. "I-I mean, i know it isn't really any of my business to worry about. I know I don't really know... anything about their date or..."
Virgil gave a somber smile. "I know what you mean. I feel it too. I mean, they don't seem to... clash correctly," Virgil meshed his fingers together as a visual metaphor. "They don't fit quite right into a relationship box together. And i don't think Roman is enamored with him in the way he says he is, or acts like he is." That bitter tone resurfaced in Virgil's voice again, and Patton took note of it.
He looked up, curls bouncing slightly. "What do you mean by that?" Virgil returned his eye contact, and Patton looked like he was hiding some emotion. Maybe... anger?
"Well..." Virgil thought about what he'd said. Specifically a certain song and a certain moment that had given him the notion that, as much as Roman acted confident, when he was truly falling for someone... he might act quite the opposite. Virgil felt his cheeks heat up, and Patton's expression changed.
"Is there something you know that i don't?" Patton pressed. Not maliciously, but curiosity dripped from his voice. Virgil brought his fingertips to his cheeks and wondered how they'd gotten so hot so quickly.
"Well, I, I just..." Virgil stuttered for a long moment. "I suppose it seems like, i don't know, like, maybe if Roman were really, um, that is to say, maybe, he would be, if he were really, you know, into someone, like that, like, um," He was talking with his hands too much, and Patton noticed his breathing becoming more like heaving. He took Virgil's frantic hands.
"Hey, take a sec," Patton's voice was coated in caramel. Virgil finally made eye contact again. "Breathe, bud," Patton said even calmer and sweeter this time. Virgil's attention suddenly switched to his breathing patterns, which he now noticed were getting rather erratic. He took a moment to reconcile himself.
"Sorry, I went off on a bit of a tangent there... but, as i was saying, or, trying to say," Virgil continued to stumble his way to his point, but with more purpose this time, "... Roman, strikes me as the type, to seem... like he wouldn't act the way he does with Logan if he were in love with him, maybe," He was fiddling with his own fingers now. "but i have a feeling that he might be... a bit of a softie. I mean, what i mean is, he... If he really likes someone I think he wouldn't be able to be his... y'know... confident, jock, witty-remark-shooting self. If that, makes any sense."
"huh," Patton said after a moment of consideration. "Well that's possible. I don't really know honestly. I haven't spent a lot of time with the guy, and whenever i do he always seems to be that same confident person. Well, except with you, sometimes."
"Huh? Me? What?" Virgil was blatantly alarmed. Patton hadn't meant to cause this alarm, so he replied gently.
"Oh, no no kiddo, i just mean like... Y'know how you two are always sorta, bickering or debating or poking fun at each other?" Virgil nodded. "Well, I've just noticed, that sometimes when you make certain comments or whatnot, he sort of... Loses himself. His persona. It kind of falls away, and he seems sort of lost for words." Virgil looked even more alarmed than before. "I-I don't mean that that's necessarily because of you, I just, it's just the only time i have seen him react in that way and... I don't know. It probably happens with him all the time when I'm not around. Or whatever. I don't know. I'm sorry." Patton spoke so quickly that Virgil hardly heard each word. He was just trying to calm himself. Was it so obvious?
"Well." Was all he could muster in reply.
"Anyhow, I think I agree, at least that something seems a little off... I hope it is anyw-" Virgil trained his eyes on Patton. "I mean- I, uh, I-I don't know where that came from! I don't hope, that- I don't hope anything bad for either of them! I didn't- I didn't think, I just-"
"You just have a crush on Logan?" Virgil was still staring at Patton, mischief peeking around the edges of his pupils.
"Wuh-- What!!!" Patton couldn't say anything else; he just grabbed the nearest pillow and shoved his face into it. Virgil heard an indignant "no I don't" from the pillow as he put his hand on his best friend's shoulder.
"Patton, buddy. It's okay." Virgil just awkwardly patted the shoulder of Patton's balled up form.
"Does everyone know!?" He looked up finally, his nose running slightly. He wasn't crying, but even so, sometimes when he got emotional or embarrassed his cheeks turned deep rosy and his nose started running. Just another little quirk about him that Virgil always kept close to his heart.
"Well, it is plain as day," Virgil started while Patton's eyes seemed so somehow grow larger, "But Logan and Roman have no clue, as far as I can tell. Logan wouldn't know you liked him unless... well, unless you asked him on a date apparently," Virgil chuckled slightly, remembering the bizarre interaction between Roman and Logan on Monday. "And Roman is always too busy bothering Logan to pay attention to what you're doing," Virgil propped his chin up on one of his hands. "But objectively, it is pretty obvious."
Patton was deflated, blonde curls doing their best to bashfully cover his eyes now. He put his face back into the pillow on his lap. Virgil heard a muffled "I'm sorry."
"What? Why are you sorry?" Virgil rubbed his back now.
"I don't know. I'm sorry to Logan mostly. And to myself." His shrunken form shook slightly. Virgil hoped he wouldn't start crying.
"Ohhhh come on," Virgil awkwardly attempted to comfort him. "No one knows, and besides, it's no big deal. You'll be alright. Most likely, nothing will happen, and you can just eventually move on with your life. And heck, maybe you'll get your chance with him."
Patton's curls shook again as he looked up, eyes the size of the moon. "You really think so????" He asked in earnest. clear snot streams ran down from his nostrils and over his lips now, and his whole face was like a tomato. Virgil laughed airily.
"...It's always possible," he said almost under his breath. He wondered if he was reassuring himself or Patton more.
They sat in silence for a short moment, Virgil shaking his slender fingers through his vibrant purple bangs. I should re-dye my hair soon. The roots are starting to show.
"Wanna get some ice cream?" Virgil asked eventually. Patton's eyes lit up.
"Yeah! Did your mom get Grasshopper Pie again??? I love that stuff so much!" They got up off Virgil's bed together to head down the hall to the stairs.
"Actually, my mom tried making some herself this time," Virgil shut his bedroom door behind them.
"Ooh, really!?!?! I'm so excited to try it then!" Patton squealed, overjoyed as a small child would be. It was as if all of his troubles had dissipated like seeds in the wind. Another thing Virgil admired about Patton.
He hoped everything would be okay.

How similar are Kageyama and Todoroki?
Despite the many differences between Kageyama and Todoroki, those two are as well much more similar than you think.
We already covered Bakugo and Oikawa, Deku and Hinata and now follow up with our icy-type characters.
Nissa already wrote about both characters shortly in her BNHA Analysts Shuffle and Haikyuu Sentinel Shuffle, but this will not be about their personality types but a general overview about their similarities, Nissa did a full personality analysis on Kageyama and sometime soon one on Todoroki will follow as well.
To not make you wait any longer let’s get started with our favourite stoic boys and what connects them!
Dense
Tumblr media
When we take a look at both Kageyama and Todoroki the first thing that someone would guess is that compared to their abilities that both of them are pretty quick-witted.
Sadly, this is not the case…
Academically speaking Kageyama is not a student that succeeded in it, showing that he wasn’t able to get into Shiratorizawa due to his bad grades unlike Todoroki who is ranked 5th in his class. Yet this is not the aspect showing how dense or quick-witted someone is since grades are not an indicator of what a person is really capable of.
Both Kageyama and Todoroki are unaware of the things happening around them, as they do not realize how the other party might feel when they do or say something. Both are shown to be very observant and have a quick decision-making mind when it comes to their speciality, but everything out of that area is just beyond their understanding.
For example we have Kageyama who often says what is in his mind or how he perceives things not thinking about what the other person might feel about it, which later backlashes at him and even surprises him in a way why that person would be possibly mad.
One case would be that he is not aware of the fact that he hit Oikawa’s soft spots and continued to aggravate and hurt him until Oikawa had lashed out on him, which made him think that Oikawa has a bad personality yet he was the one unintentionally pushing his buttons due to his dense demeanor and inconsiderate way of handling someone else’s emotions, another example would be at the beginning with Hinata.
In Todoroki’s case this applies too, where he doesn’t understand what a person really might feel due to his actions or words. His examples would be firstly Bakugo, who he obviously and indirectly looked down upon by not giving him the fight he demanded and due to him taking everything literally while Bakugo tries to get his attention Todoroki does not react the way others want him to since he is not aware of their emotional state.
Secondly, Yaoyorozu  and the practical exam towards the end of season two. While she had a lot of self-doubts after losing miserably in the sport festival arc, she still had a lot on her mind and wanted to help Todoroki as much as she could yet he didn’t really understand the fact that she needed confirmation from someone she respected, here Todoroki.
Very late when they were about to fail the exam and saw the obvious fear and anxiety that Yaoyorozu held he thought back on her behaviour and understood that she had something to say.
Geniuses
Tumblr media
We have them in every medium and in our real world too, the kind of people who have overwhelming abilities that only get even more overwhelming the further they rise.
And today we have two of them, the volleyball prodigy and the one who wields two powerful quirks effortlessly.
As shown it doesn’t take them a lot of time to improve vehemently when they actually focus and put their mind on a certain goal. Unlike their peers they set their life for that very goal, making it the only thing that matters to them when it’s endangered in a way.
Todoroki is easier to spot in that category, as the son of the number two hero Endeavor who got into UA through recommendations, all eyes are fixed on him as soon as he enters the stage. Being able to use both ice and fire quirks that he inherited from his parents makes him one of the most watched students that people expect a lot from.
Yet his quirk are not the only thing that makes him a genius since it’s something he inherited but his way of using it in all kinds of ways, continuously over a large period of time and on top of that he moves while planning out a strategy in his mind are the assets that make Todoroki so astonishing. It’s not that he sits down and is amazing just like that, he puts much effort mentally and physically to improve and those that in a speed that is unmatched to his other peers, as he started to use his fire quirk very late he still was able to control it in a short period of time and even started adjusting it for special moves.
On the other hand we have Kageyama, the one known for his eerily accurate tosses that he can adjust and calculate so quickly that other people just can’t believe that especially someone at his age could do such a hard thing.
Iwaizumi Hajime, his former senior in Kitagawa Daiichi who used to play in the same team as him, described Kageyama as a prodigy that surfaced and that his sense for things was overwhelmingly spectacular in Chapter 60.
Even Oikawa mentioned to Iwaizumi at the end of the practice match in season one episode six that when it comes to tosses he cannot match Tobio, which means the best setter of the prefecture sees much more potential in his junior that he is sure that someday he will surpass him, even early that is.
Many others have commended that Kageyama would also be the only one who could pull off the freak duo quick attack that is only possible due to his perfect timing and pin-pointing, he is also able to apply new techniques he sees very quickly as seen when he replicated Oikawa’s dump. Aoba Johsai’s coach as well explained that he wanted Kageyama to join their school to have him in his team but also see many flaws in him, yet he said that at some point Kageyama’s natural abilities are simply unmatched.
Socially inept
Tumblr media
Now let’s come to the part where it’s about their social skills and the relationships they have started with.
Which let’s say… is not as astonishing as their ability because if you take both of them only in view on that aspect they surely lack a lot of it, one could also call them socially inept.
Both Kageyama and Todoroki are High Schoolers in their first year, despite their worlds being completely different and also their backgrounds there are many comparable aspects that makes you wonder how they could have survived in society if not for their skills?
Why would I proclaim such a thing you might ask?
Well, Kageyama and Todoroki may seem like well-liked and popular characters among the fandom yet in the anime they are a part of a big society in which they are seen like every other person. We on the other hand watch both their journeys as a third person or a bystander.
Watching them closely and especially how they interact with the people around them gives the most insight into how socially capable those two are separated from their usual role they have to play as either setter or the son of number two hero Endeavor.
First of all both of them seem to have bad relationships with other people before they actually started to develop through other characters, for example Hinata and Oikawa, or Deku and Inasa. One big indicator would be the nickname Kageyama was given since middle school King.
While others think that such a nickname might honor him in a way, or like Oikawa described in chapter 53 he thought it was an esteemed nickname, it turned out that as he went to watch one of his matches he saw the real meaning behind it.
And also the strengths that are also his weaknesses, the solitary king who rules the court by himself wanting everyone to match his pace instead of considering to match theirs, others even called him dictator.
In the end he even was left-behind by his team just to toss… to nobody behind him since his pressuring and egotistical behaviour concluded that after a long time of trying to keep up with it since he is so skilled they finally gave up after becoming fed up with his worsening dictatorship on them.
Which is also seen as he entered Karasuno High and told Hinata he will only toss to people he thinks worthy and important in order to win, making a lot of enemies from the get-go in his new fresh High School start.
In some of the matches it’s seen that he and Tsukishima are not on good terms either since the former is someone who doesn’t like to be bossed around and the latter gets easily provoked by him. He doesn’t understand simple social cues either and takes most of the things as either insults or ignores them since he doesn’t understand them until his seniors have to explain to him how he should work out things and what he does need to improve, not skill-wise but in his communication and interactions.
On the other hand we have Todoroki who is just like Kageyama but not as worse as him in that aspect. He simply didn’t care about the people around him as he focussed on himself rather than social interactions and playing friends as he called it in the school festival arc.
Not being able to recognize other people’s feelings as he turned away from the people around him and rather was stuck in his own world he tried to fight in.
Yet even later when he had a new fresh start after the sport festival arc, it’s seen that Todoroki is still socially inept in many ways, he doesn’t understand social cues as well sometimes he wonders what he said to others which could have made them angry.
He takes most of the things people say to him literally as he even misunderstood Midoriya and Lida when they were together at the hospital, blaming himself and wondering if he is cursed already wanting to distance himself from them after they joke around about their arms.
But thankfully they found the right people to make them develop more into people who try to understand those around them.
Narrow-minded alike
Tumblr media
Pride and a narrow-mind connects those two as well.
Ever saw a person so stubborn and lost in their own world and goals that they do not even realize where they are heading to or what is happening around them?
Two examples of exactly two people who match that description, Kageyama Tobio and Todoroki Shoto.
In that both of them really don’t differ in any way beside the implementation of how it is presented.
Especially towards the beginning of both serieses that character-trait is depicted heavily, as we see both of them fixated on winning, surpassing others and becoming better over a short period of time making them even trample over other people’s feelings directly and indirectly.
They live in their own world where they have to solve their problems all by themselves and see everyone else as either a stepping stone or obstruction.
Stubbornness can be good in some situations but in their case it’s a critical condition that is criticised by close people and strangers, since they start to lose themselves in their bad habits as they recklessly do as they think is the right way to proceed.
Kageyama would be a prime example as he even says those words harshly to his peers that if he could, he would set, toss, spike and receive the ball all by himself. He also criticises others and deems them as slackers or not being serious just because they cannot match his skills instead of trying to widen his perspective on matters.
There is also his strong sense of pride that doesn’t let things go so simply one example would be that he immediately tried to replicate Oikawa when he scored a point in a way that would humiliate him, in his eyes.
Another  scene was when Hinata proposed to try to hit the ball by himself and learn to spike on his own instead of relying on Kageyama only, which made him irritated as he rejected the idea instantly, telling him their former way of handling the quick attack was efficient enough.
Todoroki as mentioned doesn’t really differ as he is fixated on beating his father by becoming the best hero with only his ice quirks, rendering him to only see revenge and rage in everything he does considering his quirks. It leaves him to forget the wonderful things that his mother told him and also made him lose the sense of himself. Until Deku had to wake him up and tell him the most obvious thing which he couldn’t see in front of him.
But that’s not the only scene where we could see that trait clearly, another one would be at the Provisional Hero License Exam. Inasa who is someone Todoroki couldn’t understand at all and disliked due to him comparing Shoto to Endeavor made him lose himself in his former habits of showing him that he isn’t like his father at all. It concluded into him not getting his license as he lost his senses and even caused the people around him to be in danger due to his reckless behaviour.
Silence before storm
Tumblr media
Connected to the former paragraph, the seemingly silent pair has their own storm going on if you push the right buttons.
Despite being usually very calm and silent about certain things they can become easily aggravated in other situations.
Just like mentioned before Todoroki only needs to hear his father’s name to become a bit louder or even erupt into either a statue of ice or an inferno of flames like seen in season two and three.
Which goes as well when he is excited and in adrenaline he can sound much louder and aggressive in comparison to his usual self.
For Kageyama this goes as soon as Hinata pushes his buttons, he immediately shoots some moron or dumbass when he is around and does anything close to messing up or provoking him. Tsukishima on the other hand is very smart in how he provokes Kageyama, mostly leaving him only angry or boiling inside instead.
Another person who would be able to accomplish that would be Oikawa when they are competing, showing a much more childish side as he has little fights with his senior, as seen in season two as both of them fought over the ball that has fallen to the ground, yet Oikawa is rather someone who challenges him and scratches on his pride and ego.
Secret sleeper and in-between eater
Tumblr media
There is always that one character you watch in the background, because while everyone in the panel or scene is doing something much more interesting, you will find that character doing irrelevant stuff that seems unlikely for his/her character.
And our pair for today are two of those characters, that when there is nothing to do for them in the main scene they are doing their own business not caring what others might think of them.
Both of them are very serious characters, who seem cold and stoic on the outside even aggressive sometimes but as soon as the attention of the events is derived from  them or there is a little pause in-between scenes you can spot their little dorky and cute sides, that shows yes those boys are still young and innocent highschoolers.
While they share their love for food, secretly snacking in the background or even having a full lunch in the midst of a serious talk between other characters, those two don’t even blink an eye turning away from the attention.
Kageyama just eats an Onigiri after a really serious scene where Oikawa had a panic attack in middle school, the scene obviously revolves more on Oikawa’s perception and fear explaining a bit the important role Iwaizumi has in his life as the person who brings him back on earth. Yet the other important person who caused the whole scene, Kageyama, moves to the background eating his snack casually as if nothing happened.
Same goes when Saeko, Tanaka’s sister, gives them a crazy drive to Tokyo.
We already saw in the early anime episodes that Kageyama sleeps most of the time in his classes or when nothing important is going on for him, but in Saeko’s car he just took the back rear for a midday nap and afterwards eats a snack half-asleep while she is drifting like crazy.
Since the focus was more on Saeko and Hinata talking about the little giant, Kageyama seemed to take the opportunity to move his out-of-character moments to the background.
Very similar to Todoroki Shoto, there is not much difference as he does basically the same as Kageyama. Even when he is only passively in the whole scene he just silently eats and watches his peers making most of the decisions like seen in their dorm lives and also sleeping on train or bus rides where most of his classmates are having fun meanwhile.
As seen when they made a plan to save Bakugo, Todoroki could easily enjoy a lunch and take a little nap in such dire situations.
In the manga it’s a running gag that when he is not much mentioned in the main events that you can spot him in a corner visibly or unconsciously doing one of those two things.
An adorable side-view of their usually serious and seemingly adult-like character.
Rival
Tumblr media
Last but not least, the ever-repeating rival relationship essence for complex characters.
The difference here is that both of them are already better than their supposed rivals Deku (and later Bakugo), and Oikawa.
You might think that when your ability level is already top-notch you might not need to worry about your rivals who you can surpass any time needed, but that is wrong in both cases.
Kageyama and Todoroki work even harder and as they work harder they cannot unsee the other strengths of their rivals which makes them so different.
Ability is nice and good, but there are other factors that matter in both a Volleyball player and a soon-to-be Prohero, which they both lack and see clearly in their rivals.
Personality-wise and in the ways they handle things their rivals are still unmatched in their eyes.
For Todoroki, Deku is someone he cannot reach yet when it comes to the true essence of a hero and his problem-solving thoughts, as well as his overly caring side for others that he admires so much. Clearly Todoroki is stronger than Deku physically and he already defeated him in many ways but he still thinks that there is a lot to learn from him.
Later on he even sees qualities in Bakugo who does take his hero path seriously and respects any opponent that comes his way, treating them like a threat which is the biggest respect one can give. Todoroki himself never saw his opponents but only his father in front of him which leaded him to overlook his allies and enemies, and Bakugo who even took Ochako serious when everyone else didn’t and clearly told him he should look what’s in front of him became one of the other rivals he had set his eyes on.
Kageyama has his one and only rival Oikawa, which he looks up to since middle school and thinks of someone he cannot compare to. Despite Oikawa already stating that Tobio will surpass him one day and that it might be sooner than he would expect, Kageyama still fears his senior and thinks the exact opposite.
As stated before Kageyama is unmatched ability-wise and in season two he even won against Oikawa, but as he saw Ushijima that seemed a bit intimidating he clearly said that he not afraid of anyone beside Oikawa, which is a big indicator that he still thinks of Oikawa as a big threat and rival that should be feared.
Oikawa is the kind of setter Kageyama aspires to be, he has other traits that Kageyama watches closely and is amazed by, one would be his quick and astonishing adaptability as he mentioned he is like a ruler who rules over his army.
When Kageyama needed advice he turned to Oikawa despite his pride and ego, fully aware that Oikawa might drop comments that would make fun of him.
In Kageyama’s case his rival is in a complex way his mentor and senior at the same time, as well a former teammate and fellow setter which connects those two not by only rivalry how others might think but in many more ways.
What do you think?
Did you see any similarities that I might have missed out or do you think some might not apply in your opinion?
Drop it down in the comments, I would be eager to read them!
As again I might leave you this time, but I will return again with another tea,
vanishing Makii

About Assassination Classroom Characters - Kataoka Megu
Tumblr media
An important thing to note about her is she’s kind of seen as ‘boy like’ due to her appearance (girl is 5′7, giant for a Japanese girl) and dependable personality.
A kind of less extreme flip to the Nagisa situation, I think.
Honestly one of her defining character traits is that she’s a dependable girl, and very easy to lean on for support.
It needs to be remembered though that Kataoka actually doesn’t really like this. Being depended on too much, and somewhat manipulated, is the reason her grades dropped to get her into 3E in the first place.
I think there’s actually a bit of innocence there where she really feels like she needs to help people, and opens herself to getting hurt.
I’d like to imagine maybe one time, one assassination attempt a group of her classmates are putting too much on her, and she breaks down a little. Not just from that, but the build up. Maybe some stuff’s going down at home. Point is, she gets super stressed, and it takes that for everyone to realise that she’s not completely invincible. That time, everyone works more as a team, rather than following a leader, and they end up having a good time.
Not to say Kataoka doesn’t enjoy being a natural leader.
Though she probably deserves more credit. I feel like Isogai gets a lot of the ‘glory’ moments.
For her birthday, it would be cute if everyone banded together to give her some appreciation for being a super awesome class rep.
She has the courage to stand up to mostly the boys and lecture them. Honestly it’s important for teenage boys of that age to be around women who can do that, even if it’s not the most ‘feminine’ thing to do. It’s clear they still look up to her and she’s popular, which is great honestly.
Though there are still people there to calm her down a little when she goes too far with the hot headedness. Learning to accept other opinions is a big part of being a good leader too, and ultimately helps her with her negotiation skills.
In canon, it’s said that she wants to go into a more feminine seeming career like being a flight attendant.
From the graduation album, it seems like she ends up instead dropping the idea to work a typical company kind of job instead, perhaps ending up in management.
That leads me to believe that she went through the character development, some point, of realising that not representing traditional femininity is totally fine too. She can be comfortable in her own skin.
Without writing a whole meta about it, this is kind of interesting given women’s position within Japanese culture. There’s a lot of emphasis on the ‘traditional’ family unit, as well as women being shy and submissive. Due to lack of population, more women are staying in the work force, as well as general times changing, and becoming more assertive. There’s a lot of kind of socioeconomic issues to do with this, but in a nutshell, I think Kataoka is a good representation of this ‘struggle’.
That being said, it’s valid for her to want to enjoy other activities too
I’m imagining her going on weekend shopping trips to Harajuku or Shibuya with Okano and Kurahashi, perhaps Yada too. Though it’s mostly kind of window shopping, they all have a good time in each other’s presence. Perhaps they get lunch/coffee/dessert too, and talk lowly (can’t be too loud about your octopus teacher in public!) about class.
A girls trip to Tokyo Disney, too! Imagining them all with Mickey Mouse ears, taking photos with some of the characters, and generally having a good time.
It’s also said that she’s the middle man between Kanzaki and some of the other girls, so I’d like to imagine Kataoka inviting her to some of these hang outs
Maybe there’s even a slight jealously there, between her and Kanzaki, though she’d get over it if they actually hung out more and found out the truth about her family etc.
Of course she still keeps up with sports. As we know, she’s a great swimmer, and there’s no reason not to keep up with it even on top of the assassination classes.
In terms of family, I think she lives the pretty ‘average’ life. I don’t get the feeling they’d be particularly close, especially after the 3E thing. The character book states that she gives ‘fashion advice’ to her older brother, so perhaps her own mother isn’t around that much. Typical working family.
She strikes me as the type people come to for advice a lot. She can be level headed and honest, telling them often what they need to hear.
In terms of their LINE group, she’s not that active, but she seems to be magically summoned if the boys are being problematic.
I really would like to see her and Nagisa end up alone together enough for an actual conversation. I feel like they’d get each other in the sense of uncomfortable gender roles etc.
Livi’s OPINION: Although it’s popular, I don’t see her romantically liking Isogai that much. Maybe she’s kind of into the idea of him, again to help her settle into a more feminine narrative, but I don’t know. According to the graduation album, they go to the same high school and people kind of look at them as ‘star crossed lovers’. Part of me thinks that if it was going to happen between them, it would have happened already. They’re much better working together as a friendly partnership, and could be great confidants to one another.
I would like to see her hang out with Isogai, though. Perhaps they met up with working intent but then ended up finishing early and just appreciating each other’s presence. Maybe she could help Isogai look after his younger siblings sometimes.
That being said, she does seem to want to be loved by someone. Her prized possession is supposedly love letters from boys. I’m not sure if she’s that ready for romance in the canon period yet, but when she finds it, they’ll be a lucky guy.
Okajima described her as straight laced, and whilst I see some truth in that, she definitely can and should let loose every now and then
Kataoka has a cute laugh, I think. It would be great if it slipped out whilst they were hanging out, and they were stunned at how cute she looked.
In summary, Megu is a very interesting character. Her biggest personal arc, I think, should be accepting herself. Femininity doesn’t have just one definition, and she’ll find hers can look however she wants it. She’s a great leader, even though she occasionally needs to let go of the reins every now and then. There’s a definite reason why she’s so popular!
-
Hi so I felt like doing hc/interpretation posts for all of the characters because I feel like people think I only care about karmagisa :’) Whilst they’re most interesting for me, I felt like talking about some other characters too for a bit of fun. Of course my word isn’t gospel, and my ask box/messages are open for any further discussion request on these points. I’m going to use “about ass class” as a tag for this series!

VilAnnthology: The yearning love of the poisonous flower
(Cross-posted from AO3)
In which I present my TWST MC, Ann Hawthorne, through the meticulous notes of a skilled and absolutely not suspicious hunter discovering a new prey.
Thanks to polyphenols@AO3 for beta-reading this!
- The suspicious thick album lay open, a couple of photos on top of the pages. In one the profile of a young girl was visible, her lime green eyes looking at the horizon,  unaware of the photograph being taken. Deep wood brown bangs to the right side of her forehead, long locks framed her face and went down to the end of the photograph. A mole under her right eye was the only apparent mark on her face.
The other photo had the same girl, this time holding books, talking to a cat-looking monster which could be mistaken for a familiar. She was wearing a modified version of the uniform; instead of pants, she was wearing a mid thigh pleated skirt and knee-high boots. In this picture, her long hair reaching her lower back was visible.
Next to these photos, in perfectly neat handwriting there were several notes written, as a matter of record.

One of the students who crashed into the Entrance Ceremony, alongside Monsieur Fuzzball. Despite not being able to perform any kind of magic, the Headmaster has allowed her to stay. Became the prefect of Ramshackle dorm, which consists of Monsieur Fuzzball, three ghosts and her. Said permission was obtained after recovering a magic gem from the Dwarves’ Mines, where she coordinated two Heartslabyul students, Monsieur Heart and Monsieur Spade, as well as Monsieur Fuzzball. Ever since, she has been entrusted to a variety of tasks by the Headmaster, as well as overseeing Monsieur Fuzzball’s education.
Something of note is her involvement in the recent Overblotting cases, starting with Roi du Rose up to Roi de Fort. While physically incapable of fighting, has been directing other magicians during their encounters with the Overblotted students. Because of her ability to get others to do as she says, as well as her cunning strategy to defeat Roi de Fort to free her friends from a contract, I have dubbed her Trickster.
Trickster possesses average physical abilities and no magical abilities. Her grades are counted as part of Monsieur Fuzzball’s, and the combined sum is below average. However, the professors seem to comment on Monsieur Fuzzball’s neglectful performance, so Trickster’s can be considered above average. The only apparent weakness of Trickster is flying class, where her skills are similar to Roi de Fort and Roi de ta Chambre. However, it seems it is more due to a psychological disposition involving phobias, rather than lacking physical skill. Her phobia is something to be further investigated but will prove to be challenging given her personal secrecy.
Trickster doesn’t reveal much about her homeland, or her past. The only apparent snippets of information come from comparisons between traditions of our world and hers. Said world appears to be similar to ours except for the use of magic, given her rather easy adaptation to our world, magic excluded.
According to other students, Trickster is easy-going and the mediator between Monsieur Heart, Monsieur Spade and Monsieur Fuzzball, with whom she tends to hang out the most. She seems to possess a good heart like Roi d’Or, and favors fair play and hard work, as she didn’t fall prey to Roi de Fort’s exam scheme. However, several people have commented on her blunt honest remarks, in particular the times when she called Roi du Rose’s rules idiotic, as well as calling out Roi du Léon’s lazy disposition and foiled plan on the Magift tournament. It could be that this honesty is part of the reason Trickster can get other people to cooperate, if not for a lowkey charisma she might possess. This would explain why other dorm students like Monsieur Loup* have befriended her.
Trickster has also shown interest in sword fighting, as she has begun training with Monsieur Épée*. Whether it is to become a guardian of Roi du Dragon or for her own curiosity has yet to be developed. As it is uncommon for a non-Diasomnia student to interact with the guards of Roi du Dragon, the depth of this relationship is intriguing and I’ll continue my observations on this.
As of now, it doesn’t seem Trickster has interacted with our Pomefiore students, but I am certain she will do so in the future. Perhaps she will be needed in case that fails. In any case, I am most overjoyed to have found another interesting prey, this time from a different world. Beauté!

“Rook, what is taking you so long?” Vil’s exasperated voice could be heard and in an instant, all photos were neatly put inside the thick album, and it was already hidden from view, with only a couple of papers laid on the desk. “We have a rehearsal coming up.”
“Oui, Roi du Poison. I was caught up in my notes and lost track of time.”
“Your notes? Are you still sticking your nose in other people’s business? We have no time to waste, VDC is coming up.”
“I have found another interesting prey, though this one is different from the others! Unlike Roi du Léon and Monsieur Kills for Thrills, this prey is similar to a fawn. Utterly defenseless! In a physical fight, perhaps the only victory would be against Roi du Rose!”
“Are you replacing someone strong but trite as Leona with someone trite and weak? I regret asking this, but how could that even be a challenge?” Vil rolled his eyes, not wanting to prolong this talk, even though he had fears it would be the opposite.
“Fufu, the challenge here is not in the strength but what I cannot easily see. This prey won’t attack, at least not directly, but I have a feeling she has a different way of doing so. The most dangerous prey is not the strongest one, but the sneakiest. Call it an unpolished charisma and wit.”
“You’ve already lost me. I have no interest in someone like that. Now please get going to the Ballroom,” Vil replied annoyed, as he left the room, a sign the discussion was over.
However, Rook gave a one last glance at his hidden album, and smiled to himself. “I wonder how you both will interact.”
~~
*Jack and Silver haven't been given officially any nickname by Rook as of 11/09. However, judging his logic, the easiest idea is Loup (French for Wolf) for Jack and Épée (French for Sword) for Silver. I will update when more information is available.
Thank you for reading!

Hoshiai no Sora Production Notes #03
Tumblr media
Akane Kazuki answers questions asked by the fans!
← Previous || Raw || Index || Ko-fi
Q.: Between traditional Japanese, Western and Chinese cuisine, what’s Maki-kun’s specialty? Also, I would like to know if there’s any cuisine that he’s good at in particular.
A.: He can generally cook anything without having a particular specialty. The reason why he often made Chinese food in the cooking scenes of the series is that Chinese food can be made in a short span. For dishes that take up time, he makes and stores them on Saturdays, then uses them for his lunch boxes.
Q.: I want to know the hobbies of all the club members!
A.: Maki has an interest in astronomy, so astronomical observation. Touma likes dinosaurs and fossils. Rintarou collects cat goods. As for Nao, fishing. In Itsuki's case, I guess it would be horror-type shooting games or the like. I feel that his older sister, Namie, likes them indiscriminately and would join him. Taiyou plays with his father using his miniature cars, which are also his hobby. Tsubasa might not have a hobby that actually seems like a hobby. Shingo watches anime with his little sister.
Q.: I want to know the reason for everyone except Maki to have joined the soft tennis club!
A.: I guess the only one who joined it because he wanted to play soft tennis was Touma. Middle schoolers in general must join some club, and many of them join clubs that they pick due to having no other option. I think that the club members of Shijou Minami also ended up gathering there because each of them had no other place to go, but as they all carry wounds that do not show on the surface and have formed a relationship where they understand one another without saying anything, it has turned into their own little place to belong.
Q.: The production of not just the soft tennis scenes, but also daily life scenes where Maki cooks and everyone eats with relish in their own way, is rather sensible, to a surprising extent. With what kind of policy did you proceed on that?
A.: What is interesting in animation is not just showy action; there is also warmth, reality and sense of presence in simple dramas, so this time, I wanted to make an anime where these things would become its charm by being portrayed sensibly. The detailed play of the cooking and daily life scenes were interesting even for me when I watched them, so I think they turned out as something that the viewers can enjoy too. This is of a higher difficulty level than flashy action, but even worldwide, I believe it is something that can only be done with Japanese animation.
Q.: At the beginning of episode 2, when Touma helped Yuuta, he was described as someone to be feared, but what was the reason for that?
A.: Because he snaps easily. He must be famous for it.
Q.: What were the words that Nakao-kun threw at Itsuki-kun on episode 3?
A.: He chose cruel words and spoke them out. Sakurai also says it during the series, but his words were meant to show that they can hurt someone. However, that terminology unfortunately seems to be forbidden from being said on TV, so during the post-recording, we decided to mute it.
Q.: Who made the lemon honey pickles that were placed on those two benches at lunch in episode 11?
A.: It was Yuuta. Yuuta was also making drinks for everyone during practice, so I think he was providing modest support while nestling close to the feelings of the club members.
Q.: I want to know what the recordings are like!
A.: The number of people was so big they could not fit inside the booth, but I could feel an unanimous enthusiasm towards series from all of them. There were also many cast members who came to me with questions even about things that were not depicted in the animation in an attempt to understand the characters’ personalities. On the other hand, when the New Year’s issue was announced, we gathered in front of the TV and made merry, and we got along well.
Q.: I want to see the floor plan of everyone’s houses!!
A.: I believe this will be included in the setting reference book, although it is just a part of it, so please look forward to that. When making the rooms, we created them after deciding on the floor plans, having in mind the daily life style of each family. I had even the parts that were not animated be made in detail, so I think I gave the settings designer a hard time. *laughs*
Q.: Were there any references to actual players or games for the soft tennis parts, such as forms and play styles?
A.: We actually went to collect data at middle school competitions in Tokyo, and used references from the practice skills of middle schooler clubs such as the ones from Seimei Academy, as well as the Lucent Cup and other such tournaments that involve influential national athletes, including their different levels of prowess.
Q.: Do all the club members know that Touma-kun likes dinosaurs and Nao-kun likes fish?
A.: They do, somehow or other. I think boys their age have their hands full with their own matters, so they do not mind other people’s tastes that much.
Q.: What kind of practice do the soft tennis club members of Shijou Minami do on rainy days?
A.: We have depicted a little bit of this in the drama CD of the second volume, so please look forward to it.
Q.: About the incident that happened in the soft tennis club five years earlier, which Sakurai-sensei knows of. Does it have anything to do with Ryouma, who was the ace back then, and his pair, as well as little Touma and Maki? I am also concerned about the clover protection charm.
A.: The story of their past is one of the things I want to write about in the future. There are also hints in each of their lines, so please try to watch the main story again.
Q.: What was the intention behind not giving a title to each episode?
A.: “Hoshiai no Sora” was written through taking cuts of those children’s lives, so we did not make any conveniences for the developments of the stories from each episode. Therefore, our intention was that the first episode was the first story and the last episode was the last story, thus we did not give them titles.
Q.: I want to know in detail the reason why the Itsuse brothers started playing soft tennis, their family structure and their school lives! (Sorry if this has already been made public...)
A.: This is part of what I want to depict in episode 13 onwards.
Q.: Why did Itsuki only give pet names to Maki and Kanako? Is there any sort of specific criteria for Itsuki’s usage of pet names?
A.: Itsuki has actually given everyone a pet name in his mind. They are peculiar nicknames fitting of a cynic person like Itsuki. He merely does not voice them because he thinks the other person will get angry if he says it to their face.
Q.: Why does Tsubasa-kun wear a T-shirt that says “15”?
A.: It is 15 as in “fifteen years old”. He looks up to that age, or rather, he might just want to ride off on a stolen bike. *laughs* Tsubasa is still thirteen, though. Thirteen-year-olds think of fifteen-year-olds as grown-ups.
Q.: Everyone’s individualities show through in that scene from episode 2 where they are all running and I quite like it, but how did you decide on and animate the particularities in the way each of them runs?
A.: I drew a rough sketch of the characteristics in each of their running styles, then had them clean-copied by the animation director, Irie-san.
Q.: Who has the best grades amongst the characters? Also, who has the worst ones?
A.: Rintarou has the best grades regardless of subject. Since he is a hard worker, his grades are top-class in his school year. On the other hand, the biggest dummy is Shigo. I am thinking of including the anecdotes related to this in episode 13 onwards.
Q.: I have the impression that you write about “things that might not be commonplace, but are a part of commonplace daily life”, without making the issues that each character bears into something excessively tragic. If there was any point in the shooting where you planned this out, I would like you to tell us.
A.: I believe animation already has a special filter for the shooting just from the fact that it is hand-drawn. That’s why I thought that dropping the ostentatious performance and making pure animation art would suffice this time. Since we were handling sensitive contents, we did not do an unnecessarily exaggerated staging. This might not be as interesting if shot in the same way as live actions, but the portrayal as animation is in itself enough for the shooting. Shots where they are walking, for example, are already an incredibly special picture, so isn’t this the greatness of animation?
Q.: Are Yuuta-kun’s feelings for Touma romantic love? Or is he sitting on the fence between love and friendship? Maybe it is admiration?
A.: I think there’s a part of him deep inside that has not yet figured it out. Surprisingly enough, Maki is the one who seems to understand it accurately.
Q.: How did you choose the rackets of each club member? Please tell us about the rackets of Arashi, Joy, the Itsuse brothers and Ryouma as well.
A.: For the rackets that have models, I picked them after deciding on my images of the position and skills of each one. Rackets have their own levels and popularity in real life, so for that part, I referenced the information I received from each maker. For example, I selected a racket that is, just as Touma said, easy for beginners to use as Maki’s first racket.
Q.: Jizue-san’s music was impressive as there is a sense of transparency to it, but the environment sounds were rather effective in that scene right before getting to the EV at the end of episode 5, so it felt like an extention of daily life and the sense of tension came alive. What kind of points were you particular about when making it?
A.: Music and sound effects can convey what the dialogues and acting do not. Even if a character is laughing, they aren’t always truly smiling on the inside. On the other hand, it’s not like we are going to play dreary music just because they’re scared. We did not put music in that scene precisely in order to enhance the unease. If we put music in it, we end up restricting its image. What we wanted people to feel was not fear, but the anxiety of wondering if something was about to happen.
Q.: How did you do the paste-up of the rackets’ gut strings?
A.: We had it pasted during the shooting. There were so many materials to be pasted other than this, such as books and cloth bibs, that the photography staff screamed. There were also many parts that we ended up omitting in the main story. Speaking of gut strings, there were special scenes where we did them as animation instead of paste-ups. The scene where Maki’s racket was destroyed was also entirely hand-drawn.
Q.: What was the reason for the OP and ED being cut off in the last episode?
A.: To emphasize that episode 12 is not the end of the story. The story of those boys that exists inside me is not yet complete, and I have only depicted half of it. I wanted the viewers to feel that the story would continue after this, so I directed it that way.

5 Learning goals for 2021: Multilingualism, self love and more
Tumblr media
Personally I’ve always felt it has been easier to work towards and achieve my goals when I write them down in order to hold myself accountable. How many of you have set a goal only to let it fall flat? I know I have way too many times but 2021 is different and at the beginning of this year I set multiple learning goals for myself which I have every intention of achieving. I’ve already started to work towards them so thought why not share them - maybe this will push me further, inspire one of you or simply be something to look back on it with a smile on my face knowing I achieved what I set out to do.
So here are five of my learning goals:
Enhance my language proficiencies: I have always had a big love for languages that has only intensified over the last few years. It started when I was a child and my dad used to teach me 1-2 words in Spanish. As I grew older I saw languages as being the opportunity for more than just communication, a chance to learn about culture, history and so much more. At the moment I’m attempting to learn four languages at the same time - sounds crazy right?! For me, I find that I thrive with variation so it’s nice to change it up when I’m studying each of them which helps me to stay interested. My goal for the end of the year is to reach the following levels in each language;
French: From lower beginner level to lower intermediate
Arabic: From beginner to Lower elementary
Farsi: From elementary to intermediate
Spanish: From intermediate to advanced
Achieve a first in all of my second-year modules: Last year I worked hard and managed to get a first class grade in all of my modules with an average mark of 70-80 on assignments. This year is much more challenging but I still want to maintain that first class grade and even potentially shift that mark to an average of 75-85 (It’s a push but it’s possible :D). It’s a goal that I am slightly more nervous about it but it’s all the more rewarding!
Improving my time management and organisational skills: For a very very very long time I struggled with the all too familiar practice of procrastination. So many times I planned out my day only to sit there in bed and watch youtube videos or Netflix documentaries. It was very demotivating as you can imagine but only I could change it. In recent months I have began to utilise one big calendar to cover all my commitments and timings in order to effectively manage my time. Whilst it has been the stepping stone in my process to managing my time better there is still more to be done. I hope that by the end of this year I would have managed to refine my organisational skills and use it to better improve my time management so that I can achieve a great level of productivity each day.
Reaching a level of greater emotional intelligence: This one might stick out a bit from the others but it is probably one of the most important goals that I want to achieve in 2021. I believe that in identifying our areas for development and improvement we can gradually elevate them to our strengths. For many years I struggled with the idea of emotional intelligence and would allow my emotions to overpower me which would be disastrous if I was in the middle of a task. I’ve made a lot of progress in recent months and particularly over the tribulations of last year which has allowed to learn from my mistakes but I am still on this journey.
Learning to practice self-love: Each goal is important to me but the goal of learning how to practice self-love is arguably the most important to me. Learning how to love yourself and see the beauty inside rather than the flaws is something I am sure most people have suffered with. I want to learn to focus on doing the things that make me happy rather than the things that make others happy, embracing as well as loving who I am rather than allowing others to change/decide that for me and lastly accepting my flaws instead of pushing them away so that I may continue to support my growth process.
I hope you enjoyed reading these and I would love to hear what your learning goals are for 2021 so that we can all be inspired by what we are working towards!
