ೃ this is my very first writing contribution to the genshin fandom, so i hope everyone likes it! after 5 months of playing genshin, i think it’s safe to say my brainrot for it has finally consumed me and i’m confident enough to brew something up! <3

CHILDE:

– You and Childe are the perfect embodiment of the best friends to roommates trope. Whenever you wanna sleep in for 5 minutes more and you’re about to run late for your first class, Childe never fails to slowly drag you out of your bed, laughing as he does so. “Wake up sunshine!” is the first thing you always hear in the morning and you don’t complain if you get to hear his smexy voice anyway. He is a confident flirt and is not afraid to show you how much he cares or how much he pines over you.

– He’s always always there to save the day. There was a time when your classmates stood you up on the group project you were making, and guess who comes up to you with glitter, glue, and colored paper? Childe, of course! He stayed up until the wee hours of the night with you just so he can help you finish it. He even promises to set things in a “very civil way” with your absolute jerk groupmates the very next day. You practically hang out with him 24/7 as most of the time he just barges in your shared apartment with some amusement park tickets on hand or to some expensive yoga or judo class. There’s never a dull moment with him and with each passing day, the more you fall harder for him.

– After a morning jog with him and seeing cute little dogs frolicking around with their married owners, Childe suddenly had the urge to adopt a dog with you. But, due to a no pets rules established by the landlord, the two of you opt to owning hamsters instead! Childe named his hamster, narwhal (after his favorite animal of course!) whereas you named yours bunny, to match his irrelevant pet name picking. your hamsters both share the same house/cage and even they are pining over each other.

– His siblings visit a lot, especially Teucer. At this point, there was never a day the little boy didn’t ask when are you and Childe going to finally become “playground playmates” (a term for lovers that they use in second grade apparently) since the two of you are living with each other and seem so close. Childe is always able to successfully change the topic and shift away from talking about the shared feelings that the both of you have for each other. But, alas, the day had finally came to be and during your monthly trip to the amusement park, Childe confidently confesses to you on top of the ferris wheel.

“So... everyone in my life knows that you’re my best friend. Yea, that’s pretty cool and all but... Can we be more than just that (Y/N)? Is there hope if I think there could be something between us?”

DILUC:

– Diluc is your posh and rich roommate who sounds and looks too good to be true. The fact that you’re roomies with the literal heir to the country’s biggest wine and beverage company sounds like something straight out of a fanfic. But, it was of his volition to decide to live in a penthouse near Teyvat University. It was the doings of his step-brother Kaeya who tricked him into getting a roommate so that he won’t be alone for the rest of his college years... aaand that’s where you come in. practically barged into his life, but, you were a blessing. an angel sent from the skies.

– He’s quite cold and unapproachable at first, only greeting you whenever he sees you but never bothered to engage in small talk with you. Even if the both of you go to the same university. It wasn’t until your second month as roommates, when you accidentally had too much to drink after a friends’ night out. You come home to see him in the living room, drinking grape juice from a wine glass, and watching a rerun of Hannah Montana. You practically collapse at the front door, he rushes to you and helps you up as you drunkenly confess to him in tears how you wanted to become much closer to him especially since the two of you are going to spend the rest of your college years together. That was when Diluc realized how distant and aloof he’s been and vows to make it up to you.

– Diluc is very talented. Albeit in very discreet way, he makes sure to make use of his talents especially if it’s an opportunity to make memories with you. He is an amazing cook as much as he tries to deny it, He’s a secret virtuoso caught in 4k when you impulsively bought a guitar one time and you asked if he knows how to play, and he does so well. He practically serenades you in the most non-obvious way possible. Lastly, He’s very athletic. You invited him to play tennis one time, betting that if he won, you would do his bidding for the rest of the week. Before you could even blink, he wins. His “punishment” for you was that you accompany him in binge-watching TV Dramas. Grey’s Anatomy and Downtown Abby are just some of the shows the two of you would watch. It is absolutely adorable seeing him so invested in these dramas. and since the next on Diluc’s list were sit-coms, you were preparing yourself to answer his questions on the context of jokes that he didn’t get. In a poor attempt to flirt with you, he calls out your name and recites in the most Joey Tribbiani voice he could muster, “How you doin?” You were laughing so so hard that night because his pick up line actually worked on you and suddenly your realizations came full circle: you were very much in love with him too.

– His naturally cool yet shy nature had always gotten the best of him. He’s always wanted to ask if you wanted to carpool with him to school. Riding with him in his Tesla sportscar that goes 150 Mph? Heck yeah. However, it took quite a while before he could muster up the courage to ask you (4 months of being roommates until he finally popped the question) Since then, the two of you go home to and from University whenever you had similar schedules. Ever since then, Diluc had began to soften. His cold and hard facade slowly melted. Asking if you could help tie his floofy red hair then he’d let you play with it and let you style it in different ways. He takes you out on café dates during lunch breaks and take you out to watch a movie after both of your late night lectures. Everyone in campus thinks the two of you are practically together at this point. All that was left was to bare your feelings with one another through a fumbling and awkward confession.

“Words cannot not suffice these feelings I’ve been harboring for you since the very beginning. I L-like you a lot. Do you feel the same way too?”

KAEYA:

- Everyone loves Kaeya. Your friends and family, The School Faculty, The owner of the Convenience Store from down the street, The old lady who lives next door, The little kids from down the hall, and even the angry brown poodles from the farthest apartment to your right absolutely loved him. it was hard to keep up with having a roommate that not only were you crushing so hard on, but also had such a vibrant social life. Kaeya interacts and socializes with a lot of people and he admits that it does tend to get tiring at times. But, if these sacrifices lead to coming home to his cute roommate who has captivated his heart since Day 1, then it’s all worth it.

— Despite how warm and friendly he may seem, Kaeya is a very private person. He’s brought two or three friends like Jean, Lisa, Albedo, or Rosaria. But, only to discuss school affairs. He wasn’t the kind of person who trusts others easily, even if he was giving off the impression that he was a trustworthy and reliable person himself. He’d much rather spend time with you on days off from school. He may be a party guy on the outside (he insists he does it for future connections when he graduates) but he’s quite a homebody. Kaeya is the type to watch korean dramas and anime with you, go on late night convenience store cravings, and these always resulted in a perfect evening spent with him. When the both of you are fully immersed into the anime and things get a bit cozy, you rest your head on his shoulder, huddling for warmth.

— Kaeya would always come home with a little something for you. May it be take-out food, A trinket, a board game, an accessory, and even skincare products. The indigo-haired man is very particular about self-care and you bet that he’s bought different kinds of face masks, ointments, and even matching cute headbands just for the two of you! He’s very flamboyant and flirts with you a lot. Trying to impress you with pick up lines and suggestive jokes, but you always thought that he was just joking around because that was always a part of his personality. It was always a part of him. For Kaeya on the other hand, it seems to him that you don’t take him seriously and it's possible that you don’t return his feelings at all. He had to set things straight and it didn’t take long until Kaeya found the perfect opportunity to do so.

— With the help of practically everyone in the apartment, Kaeya is about to surprise you with a candle-lit dinner up on the apartment rooftop. His sly smooth-talking quickly convinced you that the both of you were just going to go out on your nightly convenience store trips. Your curiosity grows when he takes you by the hand, covering you with a blindfold, and whispering to your ear, “Do you trust me?” Gripping onto his hand tightly, the both of you go up some stairs and you reply, “Yes Kaeya, I do.” He slowly uncovers the shield from your eyes and your eyes sparkle at the sight of the candle-lit dinner, complete with jazz music, and a romantic view of the city.

“(Y/N)... You are the most precious person to me. I hope you can take me seriously, especially my feelings. I am saying this with my heart in my hand and with nothing but genuine love in my soul.”

ZHONGLI:

— Zhongli is truly husband material. You’re saying this as his friend, as his roommate, and as someone who’s absolutely smitten over him. He’s a third year environmental archaeology student at Teyvat University. Gentle, kind, and has nothing but wise and intelligent things to say. your lovestruck self can’t help but just admire him from afar, not knowing that he too has been entranced by you ever since you moved in.

—He's always the first to wake up in the morning. The first thing he does is make you a cup of coffee. He's got your favorite memorized, (Coffee with cream. Not to sweet and not too bitter.) The both of you own matching mugs, (written in colored scribbled letters, “The Wise Roommate” for Zhongli and “The Cute Roommate” for you.) He always wants to spend his free mornings with you. Both of you have different schedules so you never see each other at Campus and this was the only blissful time of the day you can spend with one another. Once you get home for dinner, (Zhongli is always the first to get home if he doesn’t stay too long at the library or strolling around the city) If it’s your turn to cook or if it’s his, he never forgets to brew you oolong tea after dinner. A perfect chance for the two of you to just talk the night away and engage in deep and meaningful conversations.

—Zhongli fell in love with you because you just quietly listen to him. Sometimes, you would share your thoughts and insights, even sharing your own personal knowledge that Zhongli had not known prior. You were one of the very few people in his life whom he could talk about absolutely anything with. Well, who wouldn’t listen to a handsome man who has a voice as smooth as butter? He is very passionate about his studies. Taking a lot of extra courses and spending a lot of money on his research. and so, most of the time, he spends all of his Mora on his extra studies (excluding the money he needs to pay for rent) and other interesting antiques. You understood why though. So, instead, you ask him to accompany you to do mundane chores. Going grocery shopping, doing the laundry and cleaning the apartment. He always helps in any way he can. The prying eyes of people around you and the old lady fr next door boldly coming up to you to ask if you and Zhongli were a married couple. You blush profusely whereas Zhongli coolly denies the woman's claims. It hurt quite a little but who were you to complain?

— It was during one of your night strolls with Zhongli. He had invited you out after dinner under the guise of wanting to have some fresh air and find a clear spot for the fireworks from a nearby festival. Your heart was thumping loudly to a non-existent rhythm, blissfully unaware that Zhongli was feeling a burst in his chest too. He clears his throat and his shoulders straighten. Zhongli puts his hand on your shoulder and breathes deeply. His cool and gentlemanly aura still radiating off of him as always. A wonderful array of colors fill the sky as his lips began to form the words he's always wanted to say:

"Tonight is beautiful isn't it? I thought that this would be the perfect time to open my heart up to you... You are a diamond in the rough that few see the beauty of. My beloved– Will you accept my feelings?

XIAO:

— Having a popular twitch streamer as your roommate was a one in a million chance. Especially if you’re not even an influencer or internet figure yourself. But, how did this come to be? Why have you developed a crush on Xiao aka VigilantYaksha without knowing who he was? A gamer with over 6 million followers on different social media platforms? Simple, a high-end apartment near Teyvat University had a special discount if you were willing to be roommates with someone. It’s an amazing deal, near your school, cost-efficient, and you believed the 10% chance of scoring a hot roommate as seen on reality TV and romantic comedies. It was like rolling through a Gacha Game and getting a 5 star character. As that “character” is soon to be revealed as Xiao.

— Things started off rocky at first. On your first day, he flatly welcomed you by the door, introduced himself, then quickly retreated back to his room. As soon as you locked eyes with him, he gave off a certain cold and unfriendly aura. You wanted to get to know him better. Maybe with a little love and care, he could open up to you and you could become friends! That same day, you had mistakenly thought of your room as his and you walked in on him streaming a horror game. He wasn’t spooked by the jumpscares. But instead, he was looking at you in horror because you’ve just exposed yourself to thousands of people. You wave at the camera, apologize, and left. Since then, his fans, (called the Anemo Tofus) have been shipping the two of you together. Creating fanfiction and fanart of Xiao and the mysterious roommate that accidentally walked in on him. They practically begged Xiao to at least talk a little bit about you, to which, he declined. When you surprised him with dinner (as a little treat since this was your first week with him) He sits across the table from you, his eyes gazing deep into yours, as he pops the question, in a very tsundere tone: “Would you like to appear in my streams? T-the Anemo Tofus wanna learn more about you. B-but, if you don’t want to, it’s alright! You don’t have to-” You cut him off before he could continue his doubts, “Xiao! What are you saying? I’d love to!”

— There was something blossoming between the two of you after that particular dinner with him. Starting with your first “roommate video” that you had thought of when you were brainstorming for video ideas. It was an Almond and Mapo Tofu mukbang whilst the two of you answered questions from fans! The viewers noticed how visibly comfortable he was around you despite his usual reserved attitude. He was cracking up a lot more sarcastic and self-deprecating jokes whilst Tofu filled both of your mouths. Outside of the confines of social media and inside the comfortable space that was your apartment, you and Xiao grew closer. Wearing matching hoodies, going on midnight snack runs, playing in arcades, and stargazing with him up on the rooftop as you contemplate about life and talk about the mysteries of the universe. There were times when you would stay up late doing school works and would accidentally fall asleep on the sofa. Xiao would come out of room because he periodically had cases of insomnia. When he sees you on the sofa, he can’t help but smile at your sleeping figure and admire your beauty. First. he brings all your clutter back to your room then slowly picks you up from the couch, into his arms, and brings you back to your room. He places a blanket on top of you and your stuffed plushies next to you so you can hug them any time.

— On a particular night, you fell asleep on the sofa once again and begun to have recurring nightmares. Xiao was there to witness you whimpering, muttering to yourself, and shivering to a mental image that he could not see. (He wishes he could erase all the pain that these nightmares were giving you) You subconsciously grab onto his hand, murmuring to yourself: “Xiao, please don’t go.” He whispers back, “I won’t.” Your nerves slowly relax when you feel the Yaksha squeezing himself to lie next to you on the couch. Holding onto your arm, he continues to reassure you that it was going to be okay. You grab onto him, hugging him from behind. He feels your heartbeat revert back to it’s normal pace and you return back to your peaceful slumber. “I’ll always be here for you, (Y/N). I’ll be here to protect you. Forever and always.” Turning to you to plant a kiss on your forehead, you nestle your head on Xiao’s chest. He watches as you cling to him for love and warmth until he is slowly whisked away by his weariness, rewarded with a peaceful sleep he hasn’t felt in a while.

“And they were roommates.”

From n1 to n5, here they are (they happen to be all danmei.)

1. The Husky and His White Cat Shizun (2ha) - my n1 forever and ever.

Taxian Jun, the horrific cultivation emperor of the world who razed cities and destroyed sects, is surrounded on his mountain. The righteous sects are terrified to confront him but tired of living, Taxian Jun consumes poison and dies by suicide at the age of 32. And opens his eyes as 16 year old Mo Ran, Mo Ran long before he became Taxian Jun, Mo Ran who is excited at a chance to save the one person he loved and lost. Oh, and to deal with his loathed shizun, the unapproachable and strict Chu Wanning, his past life’s biggest enemy.

I have no idea if it’s objectively the best on this list but it hits every trope I love, its bleak worldview (the world will change only incrementally but that’s enough, average person will not appreciate the sacrifice but it’s still worthwhile, and love is worth everything) mirrors mine, and the sheer complexity of the plot and cascade of plot twists each of which is insane and yet completely logical, is amazing (this is a rare novel where it’s even more fun to reread than read for the first time because you keep seeing all the hints and trail crumbs laid out that you did not see the first time.)

And the characters!!! I mean, this novel has multiple universes/timelines, a side trip to the Underworld AND the demon realm, a plot more twisted than a store’s worth of pretzels and yet the thing that hits me the most are the characters. Mo Ran is my favorite web novel character of all time and I love Chu Wanning so. All the secondary characters are wonderfully written (and some of them made me bawl) and they are all complex. My opinion of all of them changed many times over; the novel doesn’t make it easy to love some of them but then you do and it’s so worthwhile! That slow change is one of the delights of the novel - I started out disliking the unpleasant, superior Chu Wanning and cruel, callow Mo Ran and then I loved them so so hard and cried for them so so hard and was in awe of their heroism and sacrifice and selflessness and capacity to love.

Oh, and the fact that this novel does something almost impossible - it has its protagonist start out as so clearly irredeemable and then slowly and painfully and thoroughly redeems him (without ever letting the reader forget what it is he needs redemption for.)

Also, for a novel that made me cry so hard I felt ill, this book is just so damn funny with the most sarcastic sense of humor imaginable (the serious angst doesn’t even kick in until 90+ chapters!)

Anyway I should stop or I will write a dissertation. But this is the one web novel that I would put in my top 5 not just web novels but any novels in any shape or form. The plentiful trigger warnings are there for a reason so stay away if they are an issue, but if not, if anyone hasn’t read it yet, what are you doing with your life?!

2. Stains of Filth (Yuwu) - another novel by the author of 2ha. Clearly she just pushes all my buttons every time. This one is much shorter and has a plot that is twisty but less twisty than 2ha. Still, all that means is that intensity and the pain are more concentrated.

Aristocratic Mo Xi and former slave Gu Mang were both legendary generals of the empire and lovers. But Gu Mang betrayed the country and switched to the enemy. Now he is back as a peace offering by that country and Mo Xi has to deal with the fact that his feelings are as strong as ever.

This novel!!! So much pain and intensity!!! So many amazing plot twists and supporting characters. The same bleak world view, the same unjust society, the same protagonists doing right things despite the cost. Mo Xi’s intensity and inability to let go (he’s imprinted on Gu Mang and that’s it) is romantic, bone-shakingly intense, and tragic all at once. And oh Gu Mang! So many times I just wanted to reach into the book physically to protect him. The novel deals with unjust societies, memory versus personality, what it’s like to be good in a bad universe etc. And it both made me sob and giggle, repeatedly, and sold me on literally death-defying (but not honor-defying!) love.

Oh, and special shout out to the fact that like 2ha, you may start out hating some characters and end up a rabid fangirl (cough Murong Lian!)

3. Qiang Jin Jiu - a dense political tome that takes a while to get going but then it’s a runaway train.

In a fictional dynasty, Shen Zechuan, the only remaining son of a disgraced aristocratic family and Xiao Chiye, the younger son of a family of generals guarding the border join forces (and then something else) to get power and pull down the dysfunctional system.

This is so elegant and smart (a rare web novel I’d recommend to anyone who just loves solid period fiction) and you probably need a notebook to keep track of the politics and military strategy. These characters are very very smart not just because the author says so.

As to the characters, there is a large cast and I love many of them, but for me the novel is made by Shen Zechuan and Xiao Chiye. SZC is gorgeous and delicate and icy and can kill you before you have time to blink. Saddled with the sins of the family he had no pleasant interaction with, he claws his way out of hell (seeing the sinkhole he was trapped in, literally as well) to take down those who wronged him but also to amass power so all the tragedy and corruption won’t happen again and the whole rotten system comes crashing down. XCY is a military genius who is trapped as a hostage in the capital because the court doesn’t trust his family. He longs to return to the plains of home and to take his rightful place. The two men start out as bitter enemies, then reluctant and sniping allies, then as friends and eventually as one of the most gorgeous, tender, swoony OTPs.

Anyway this is one is a bona fide masterpiece, equal parts smart and emotionally intense.

4. Wu Chang Jie - are you an emotional vampire? I am and this novel is a banquet.

In a highly fantastical setting, we meet our protagonists - the sunny Xie Bian and the intense and surly Fan Wushe. Xie Bian is a human who assists his master in conveying souls to the underworld and making sure no mishaps happen. Bian is concentrated sunshine in human form and to meet him is to love him. When the novel opens, his drunk master brings back another human to be his shidi and assist with duties - said human is uncommunicative, intense and surly Wushe. Bian is excited to have a shidi but little does he know that a story dealing with the horrors of past lifetime is about to start.

Anyway, why WCJ? So many reasons. It has such a dark bleak worldview - this world is a horrifying system where powerful cannibalize each other’s cores for an impossible chance to ascend, where gods have sealed off their realm and all that’s left is neverending human misery and hell (the only way you’d see a deity is if they’d been sent down to suffer over and over and over), where even reincarnation doesn’t fix things and bad acts are often unpunished. And the novel then asks - is it worth being a good person in such a world? More, is it worth being a good person in such a world when nothing good has ever happened to you and you have been repeatedly betrayed due to your goodness? And the answer, on Bian’s part, is an uncompromising yes.

Ah yes, the other reason to love this novel - the protagonists and their fucked up fucked up relationship. Bian (who was Prince Ziheng in the past life) is so genuinely good. But he is that rare thing - good but not saintly, noble but not cloying. So much of the novel is his getting taken apart over and over and barely able to put himself back together every time but his soul is still as amazing as ever.

And then there is Wushe (who was Prince Zixiao in past life, Ziheng’s not-bio-related brother.) Wushe is not a good person. He is a monster. And he loves Bian/Ziheng more than his life and his soul and the entire world but he’s also the one who hurt him more than anyone else ever could and did it over and over. His love survived a literal century of torture in the worst kind of hell and refused the usual memory loss of new life. But it also humiliated and broke Ziheng down to his constituent parts.

One of the things that is so fascinating to me about this novel is the question of what can be forgiven/what should be forgiven/what kind of expiation is enough/can you ever love someone who you loved so much and then he hurt you so badly and is now repentant? And it never sweeps trauma under the rug or hand waves it away but deals with it head on.

If you want healthy relationships, you should stay far away from this novel but if intense insane ones with a feral barely human one capable of destroying the world leashed by love and guilt to the sane deeply good one is your bag, come right in.

There is also the world building and the fact that yes, the big fall out between Ziheng x Zixiao is based on not knowing all the facts but it’s not “why can’t you talk?! This is dumb!” But is totally in keeping with both events and their characters. It’s reasonable for Ziheng to do what he does and for Zixiao to misunderstand and decide Ziheng is now his biggest enemy (but still one he’s fixated on) and for Ziheng to never be able to clarify.

Anyway, once again this is trigger warning central so please heed those, but if they are no issue, this one is wonderful.

5. OK, this is hard and switches between Sha Po Lang, Heaven Official’s Blessing and The Golden Stage depending on my mood. So what the hell, I am gonna write about all of them.

Sha Po Lang - so smart and so much clever world building. There is enough politicking to satisfy a Qiang Jin Jiu fan, it’s steampunk, and our two protagonists - Gu Yun, the empire’s most powerful general, who’s loyal to the empire despite being badly wronged by it, and Chang Geng, a cursed prince with barbarian blood and horrifying childhood - are wonderful separately and together. This is a huge slow burn but it’s totally worth it! They fall in love with each other’s hearts and brains and ability as much as anything. (Yes, this is the one with the yifu thing. Gu Yun is made Chang Geng’s foster father when he rescues him and brings him back to the capital as a way to keep CG safe in imperial strife. They are 12 and 19 at the time so clearly it’s never a parental relationship.)

Heaven Official’s Blessing (TCGF) - I love it’s sprawling narrative and cast, I love its inventive setting and picaresque story. It’s hilarious and can make me cry. But the novel’s place on this list is due to Xie Lian who is part Kenshin part drama WWX part pure goodness wrapped in heartbreak and trauma wrapped in sunshine.

The Golden Stage - two smart and principled (yes, they both have principles different though they may be) men navigate their arranged marriage, their past friendship and their past break up, become a super couple (one of the healthiest danmei couples I’ve ever read and proves healthy doesn’t have to be boring), save the country and bring down the emperor or two and just generally this is my rainy day book.

I guess I didn’t write as much for the three n5 candidates as I did for 1-4 but my brain is beginning to curdle so...

Questions

Damian found his girlfriend standing out on the lovely vine-shaded balcony, dressed in civilian clothes and staring out into the city. Night turned Gotham into an endless sea of luminescence. Skyscrapers around the city glow with the light of thousands of residents inside, creating trails of brilliance that ascend up towards the starry sky. It is quite beautiful, in its own way. The soft evening breeze caressing her ebony hair, creating wafts of lavender and rosemary in the air. Had she always been this breathtakingly beautiful? Slowly, Damian set his gaze towards the stars above. The precision that Raven studied the sky with passion, it fascinated him. It was as if she was reading lines from a story book, but instead there was a mass of speckled lights as she was connecting them, tracing invisible lines.

Raven took a deep breath of fresh night air and sighed, a mix of contentment, and something else, she couldn’t point it. “Have you ever considered what your life would be like If you had taken a different path?” Her breath hitched on the last word but her eyes had glance sideway to his large calloused hand still in hers, for someone who appeared to be controlling and unapproachable, Damian was surprisingly gentle and affectionate. The question caught him off guard. He felt a bubble of longing as he remembered her words that night at the carnival when she had called him kind and generous, nobody had ever spoken that way about him. That night something inside him changed, high and fenced walls began to crumble down.

Soaking in the view a little longer, Damian waited a few minutes before deciding to speak. He supposed that the saying that one’s life flashes before their eyes must hold some kind of truth, though he was not dying, and yet he had been dangerously close to the gates of death several times. Raven was his anchor amidst the unpredictability of their life as titans, always bringing him back from the turbulent waters. He couldn’t stop himself from recalling the most memorable moments of his unusual and complex life. He exhaled a long audible breath as he begins.” My life had been long decided before I was born into this world.” He murmured to the whistling wind, his words sounding faraway, even to his own ears. He would rather not relive any of the horrors he’d seen, the terrible acts he had committed in order to build a new world, make it better. What a blind and naive child he had been. At some point he had been ready to surrender his sword, his Robin suit, his claim to fight for others, offer her perhaps a normal life if that’s what she wished for. He would give her anything she asked for in a heartbeat. He squeezed her small hand tighter, Raven immediately noticed way he’s gripping onto it, like she’s the only thing keeping him tethered to this world. “After some time coming to the tower, I contemplated a rather uneventful, ordinary life. If my parents had conceived me under very different circumstances. If mother loved me more than her own insatiable ambitions. If father wasn’t the eccentric, mysterious millionaire Bruce Wayne or a vigilante consumed by his thirst to serve justice.” There was a tone of melancholy in his voice, the promise of a different retelling of a story. His story. “It wasn’t all bad. Mother…she used to read to me, every one now and then, nights like these. Tales about the greatest leaders in history, others about the origin of the Al Ghul dynasty. I treasured those moments.” He looked over at her, and he didn’t seem to recognize her for a moment, like the memory had been so strong it had actually confused him, taking him back to that instant. This was the most he’d ever really said about his mother. His past as an Al Ghul. Sure he’d shared some stories, about certain things he enjoyed and disliked. But he never spoke about Talia with such profound emotions. This was personal and precious to Damian. It saddened her. Saddened for the pain in his emerald eyes that he was trying to hide. Another long breath was blown between his full lips, and he deflated again, like he was accepting the undeniable truth. “Perhaps I would have met Jon at a local school and we would play basketball after classes and Greyson would be the team’s coach. Maybe we would have crossed paths at the extensive and valuable Gotham Public Library. I would have offered to treat you a cup of Earl Grey tea. A part of me believed I’d have picked Veterinary medicine as my bachelor degree.”

She looked at him with such intensity and Damian thought her violet eyes grew deeper, darker, more reflective. She was weighing her own reflection in his eyes, trying to see through him like she always did. And they both were visualizing, a different life consisting of trivialities, a simple lifestyle, maybe in the countryside, a rather nice and quiet house, perhaps similar to the Kent farm with some slight but substantial improvements. “What about you?” He abruptly asked her, startling her. Oh she had never been sure about her own future. “As the daughter of an inter-dimensional demon. I didn’t think a future was possible for me. A happy family, a stable romantic relationship, loyal friends. Everything was endless blackness when I was trapped by Trigon. What I have right now is more any blissful future I could have imagined.” She muttered softly. This companionship between them, the mutual care, the tender loving, the sense of equality between them, the feeling of belonging to each other beyond any outer interference because they chose one another. Their family and friends. Everything was more than enough. Damian was unconsciously too absorbed at how she looked at the whole world as one precious thing, values life in every form and shape. Her unnatural powers gave her the ability to look into something and see what others can’t. It was fascinating. He was thankful too, sincerely appreciated what he had. His father, troublesome siblings adoptive or not, his teammates and Raven. He is product of the flames which burnt him, his actions, his choices and the will that made him grow formidable instead of breaking. They both were. This woman was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his human days with.

“There’s something that wouldn’t change. You. It’s always been you, Raven.” He’s got a dazed look in his eyes, a familiar bright gleam to them that hadn’t been there earlier, but he flashed her a dazzling smile at her, one that make her insides jump. Raven let his words sink in. He wanted her even if things were different and joy seeped through her whole body.

She just felt greedily wanting more time with him, every moment and experience. She loved him, from the possessive way he held her or how he kept on touching her the instant they are alone and he felt he same. They have been together for a few years now, it took them some time to announce it to their significant others. No matter how things turned out, they have this genuine, real and consuming love. That emotion when you felt like your lungs are out of air when your lover is away from you, everything was so intense and yet so tender, you were worried it would break between your fingers like crusty autumn leaves. She focused on him.

Damian looked out of his depths. He’d always been so controlled and measured, knew the weight of his every word and was completely unflappable despite whatever life threw at him, but now he didn’t. He seemed as if he was nervous, unable to spell out his own feelings. Hesitant. Could be her imagination but she sensed a slight agitation awakening in him.

“Marry me, Raven.” The words are said with his whole heart. They are genuine and honest and very him. He couldn’t hold back the words any longer. Why wait anyway? theres simply no time when you’re busy saving the world day-to-day. There’s no question to calculate when is the right right or your fated person, no formula for the correct time. Timing. There’s no use reminding about the past or the life they would have dreamed to have. The present was a gift and ultimately what matters the most. They have been romantically involved for 4 years now. He knew she was the one the moment he gathered courage to ask her out, court her properly the way he had been taught. Initially, he planned to propose differently but it felt right. This conversation only strengthened his resolve to make a Raven his wife.

“Damian.” She breathed with astonishment.

“No buts. Marry me.” He commanded with an eyebrows raised stopping her from coming up with an unnecessary excuse, content filling his veins and the marrow of his bones, flooding him with a blanket of warmth and hope. He didn’t want to wait anymore. He wanted her, now and tomorrow and the rest of his existence, and she loves him. Like he knew she’s always had her doubts on if she could be loved or she did before they started dating.

Her bottom lip trembled momentarily. She felt a bit like she can’t breathe properly, but then Damian is reaching up and gently cupping her cheek, and she exhaled shakily as he runs the pad of his thumb over her lips. He was looking at her dead serious, asking her to marry him. “I’m not taking the chance to wait too long.” Damian whispered urgently. His tone more serious than before. Her heart was hammering in her chest. They moved in together about a year ago. Were they ready to take the next step?

It felt too real all of a sudden. Too damn real, and she wants to drown in it this moment, in this bottomless sea of feelings for him. She wanted to pretend that this is real and more than that, she wanted to say yes. Damian Wayne didn’t take a no for an answer. When he was determined, he did everything posssihke to get it, one way or another. And she loves him nonetheless. Raven felt her heart flutter, her chest tightened ever so slightly as she finally exhaled. “Yes. I’ll marry you, Damian.”

“I love you.” Her voice breaking as tears are rolling down her cheeks and the small smile on her lips. It was easy to find herself gravitating toward Damian, falling back into that wordless sync they had. To feel herself being pulled into his personal space as he crowded hers. Until they faced each other with barely inches between them and her breath hitched as he snaked his arms around her, emerald eyes softened, glowing against the moonlight, they didn’t leave her, and his arms made the distance between them disappear. Their lips are barely touching but he can feel the softness, the plumpness of her mouth, like an overripe fruit. She brushes her lips against his and Damian rapidly kissed her fervently. His lips breathing silent ‘I love you’s. The low giggle that rumbled up through her could not be contained though she tried. She knew several language but no words could describe this ecstatic happiness.

Damian is overwhelmed by the sweet taste, the delicious scent, the warm feel of her. He was intoxicated and drunk off their hungry kiss. He trailed his hand on her waist up her back and feels her heart hammering against her ribs and wonders for a moment if she’s feeling as consumed by the kiss as he is. If she is as incredibly happy as he is right in this moment. He didn’t need a different life, this one was exactly what he wished for.

Damian made a mental note to ask Jon to accompany him ring shopping tomorrow. Tonight he had plans to celebrate his engagement with his gorgeous fiancée.

His lips brushed hers in a soft, tender rhythm once again. Once. Twice. Thrice. Harder, and a little bit hungrier than before, until her fingers are intertwined in his hair and his solid body is pressing against her frame. He lifted her up effortlessly, taking a few steps back, taking her back to their bedroom. Two figures bathed in tranquil starlight disappeared.

Part 1

Sweetheart, I’ve been checking on you since 2014.

"This is the spot?" Bucky asked, smiling looking at the skyline of New York skyline lookout, even though it was cloudy, it was still a view. There weren't many people around, mostly couples doing almost the same shit as them.

"It's good, isn't it?" She asked, grabbing one of the beers they bought on their way.

"Yeah, I… yeah it is," Bucky answered as he looked at her and held up his beer in front of her and both clink their bottles. "Cheers to what?"

Luna looked at him and shrugged. "I don't know, us?" She smiled. "We come a long way, don't we?"

Bucky smiled too, "I guess," He said and nodded a few times.

"You guess?"

"Yup,"

She laughed at his unwillingness to comment on their journey or whatever, she understood how different everything was, the people were different, customs, food, technology—hell, relationships.

"You know, Buck," She took a sip of her beer as Bucky was admiring the New York skyline and hummed at her to continue. "You can talk to me,"

"You sound like my shrink,"

They laughed at the same time and stayed quiet for a few minutes, Bucky stared at her for a moment. He already had her face memorized but it was always good to stare at it—she looked sweet, delicate and her smile was always warm. If he didn't know her, the thought that she could snap in half everyone in this place and get away with it wouldn't cross his mind. She may look like that but she wasn't, it was far from that.

"I'm not Steve but I did spend a few years and he tends to rubs on people—"

"You say?" He asked sarcastically with a smile, perfectly knowing that she was right.

"What I'm trying to say, Sargent—

"Woow, that sounded really good coming out of your mouth." He straight up flirted and Luna was the one feeling her face getting hot.

"Bucky." She said with a little smile.

"Oh, it's Bucky now? huh?" He quickly answered and shook his head, eyes fixated on her face. She was getting flustered. "I liked Sargent better."

Luna just stared back at him and licked her lips and bit her lower lip, looking away as she drank her beer, a little smile playing on her mouth.

"You're good at avoiding having a conversation."

Bucky's demeanor quickly changed, his mind went everywhere and his eyes got lost once again on the skyline.

"You really wanna know?" He asked, voice soft, almost vulnerable.

"Yeah, Buck. I wanna know," Her voice matched his and gave him her full attention.

He took a deep breath and nod a few times, his mouth opened and closed a few times trying to find the right words.

"I don't—I don't know, I feel like shit most of the time." He murmurs and swallows the knot on his throat with beer.

"This is about you making amends?" Luna quietly asked and Bucky nodded. "It went wrong?"

"I couldn't tell him, I want to but I'm," His voice cracked and shut his eyes closed. "I can't."

Luna nods, understanding at some level. There was nothing that she could tell him that would make him feel better or if there was she didn't know.

"There's not much I can tell you to help you ease… what you're feeling." She says, playing with the rim of her bottle. "I do have my share of guilt, I've made mistakes. I…" Luna took a deep breath. "But you have something that I don't."

"What's that?" He asked, frowning looking at her face.

"That you didn't choose to do that willingly," Luna said looking at his eyes to then avert her eyes because she couldn't look at his face right now. Not while admitting her guilt. "I wasn't being controlled, brainwashed, nobody made me do it. It was all me," She sniffled and took another breath, and looked at him. "You're good Bucky. I just want you to know that,"

Bucky kept staring at her, feeling his stomach contract and knot at her words, confessions—he didn't feel better but he felt something different and unexpected. He would always protect her, Bucky knew that he owned more than he could ever pay but there were times, mostly on Wakanda, while laying at night that he wonders if there was something for him outhere and four out of five, she was always on those thoughts. It wasn't always romantic but… he thought if he had the opportunity if Luna gave her the chance.

He couldn't muster a word, it was too much at the time and Bucky was afraid to say something he wasn't ready to share. He opted for what he thought was the best next thing.

Luna saw him closing in, grabbed the back of her neck, and pulled her in. Her breath hitch on her throat and hold it in, even when she felt his arm on her back, hugging her.

"Thanks, doll," He muttered but she heard it clearly in her ear as she surrounds him in her arms.

"Don't worry about it," She whispered back and let out a shaky breath and put some distance between them not before Bucky kissed her head. Neither of them couldn't look at each other while they gathered their thoughts and drank the rest of their beers.

"What a date, huh?" Bucky teased and she cracked up, nudging him with her shoulder.

"Got sappy, real fast." She smiled and looked at him now.

"Yes, let's go back to you calling me Sergeant. That was something," He said going back to flirting real quick.

"You know that I am your superior. If we based it on years on active duty." She pointed out, with half a smile, playful.

"Oh, I don't mind you bossing me around, sweetheart." He winked at her, putting the rim of the bottle between his lips.

Luna stared at him, she wasn't going to back off at this flirting. "Oh, so you're into that? Dirty old men."

Bucky laughed and was about to reply but it started pouring buckets of water from the sky. "Well shit," He said, not even attempting to move from their spot as the rain poured on them.

"Yeah, raining in New York? I can believe it," Luna answered as she tried to wipe her face off the water. They looked at each other and laughed again.

They were interrupted, again, when a couple walked up to them.

"I'm sorry, are you Luna?" The girl asked, looking at her. Bucky frowned, his back quickly straightened up—he was on high alert.

"Uhm, yeah?"

"Oh my God, I've told you she was the avenger!" The girl quickly said, excited as she looked at her boyfriend.

Luna and Bucky looked at each other and then back to the couple who was still talking between them.

"I'm not an avenger, hang out with them though." She shrugged.

"But weren't you fighting Thanos?"

"Yeah, I was—

"Then you're technically an avenger." The man explained to her if she was an avenger or not. Luna looked at Bucky, exasperated.

"Alright, avenger expert." She told him, sarcastically. "You need something or…?"

"Oh no, well—can I take a selfie with you?" The girl asked, Luna, nodded a couple of times and awkwardly took a selfie.

"Can I have one too?" The dude asked and Luna stared at him for a moment.

"No." She answered and the guy just nodded and both walked away. "Don't say anything."Luna pointed out at Bucky.

"I didn't, doll." He said with a half-smile. "I'm sorry, technically avenger." Bucky mocked her.

"Oh shut up, you're lucky you cut your stupid hair." She pointed out finishing her beer and throwing it directly on the trash can, an impressive aim. "And you're literally unapproachable."

"I'm not apro—well, yeah I am. But I'm good with it though," He stood up offering his arm to her, to stand up. "It doesn't work with you."

"Because I see you behind all that pettiness you have, baby." Luna pointed out, putting a finger in his chest. Bucky smiles at the term of endearment, "As you see me, don't you? That's why I'm literally your only friend."

"I see you," He said, checking her out while licking his lips. "Believe me I do."

Luna rolled her eyes at him. "You're all bark and not bite, white wolf," She said, turning around and walking, Bucky hot on her heels.

"I can bite,"

"White wolf my ass, you're a chihuahua, you know the disable one that had the little wheels on the back," Luna said motioning with her hands as little paws ran.

Bucky just stared at her, offended. Luna just laughed on his face.

my mc’s (full) name is harley maura blanco! she’s a cis female, bi, white, and the only daughter of two super successful entrepreneurs. she has absolutely zero clue what she wants do with her life, and while school doesn’t particularly engage her, she isn’t really a slacker. lives most of her life in her head, more street smart than book smart. collects pins as a hobby!

rank the members of your friend group in order of who your MC was closest with to who they were least close with:

this one is SUPER hard just because she’s pretty close with all of them for different reasons. here’s a subject to change list: dan, noah, ava, lily, lucas, andy, stacy.

thoughts on dan pierce and your mc’s relationship with him:

other than jane, dan was the one that harley was arguably the closest with as a kid. neither had siblings, so they sort of became each other’s brother and sister. after their mishap on halloween of dressing as the same character, they made it a tradition to do so every year. the split from dan was really hard. she never resented him for climbing the social ladder and succeeding in high school, but she also never picked up on him struggling, which is something she kicks herself for endlessly. when she gets that text from him at the start of the book, she’s terrified, but also excited deep down that dan would message her after so long. even if they didn’t speak much until his rescue, they were never on bad terms. she dies mere hours after really reconnecting with him, but feels more relief after she saves him than she does at any point in the story.

thoughts on noah marshall and your ,c’s relationship with him:

noah and harley’s relationship kind of serves as the crux of my ilitw narrative. she had an innocent crush on him as a kid, something he resented due to how jealous he was of her relationship with jane. these feelings come back to bite her in the ass full force after they reconnect at the start of the plot. her and noah have just always been on the same wavelength, part of the same crowd, with the similar morals and ways of thinking; there are plenty of fish in the sea, but she wants the one emotionally unavailable fish. both of them harbor that guilt over not being able to protect jane, and that is what makes harley almost reach out to him a handful of times before the plot actually kicks in. the betrayal stings her harder than anything else, as she really thought they were getting to a place where they understood one another, but she still can’t find it in herself to be 100%b angry with him. she chooses to die in his place because even after everything, she loves him.

thoughts on andy kang and your mc’s relationship with him:

andy is the one that makes harley laugh the most. he brings out her livelier side and reminds her that she does know how to have fun, which is something she kind of forgot was possible after becoming so withdrawn. it can be assured whenever they’re together that harley is 10/10 the one that’s going to egg andy on in his antics. even in the time that the two of them were apart, harley was always silently cheering andy on from the sidelines. the true testament to their friendship comes with how quickly they were able to pick up where they left off as kids after not speaking to each other pretty much at all in the ten years between jane’s death and redfield’s resurgence. there are maybe 20 minutes of awkwardness between them before they go back to cracking jokes and being stupid together, and when andy is kidnapped and hurt, it’s the sight of him being dragged through those doors that superpowers harley into becoming the hero of the night.

thoughts on ava cunningham and your mc’s relationship with her:

as someone who is a bit offbeat, harley appreciates how unapologetically herself ava is. they bond over the fact that they aren’t like the masses and they they, in return, don’t really care what the masses think of them. even though ava is seen as unapproachable to most, harley actually finds her pretty easy to talk to once she gets past the initial fear of starting a conversation with her, and once they’re back on common ground during the plot, that fear vanishes entirely. they have a lot of similar views and share that “brave even in the face of death” mentality, meaning that ava is one of the people harley tends to go to first about most things. through that, they talk a lot on the regular about stuff other than redfield as well. harley is, quite frankly, terrified for ava when redfield gives her powers. she sees ava as one of the group’s MVPs due to her knowledge of the supernatural and her all around badassery, and is sick at the thought of losing her to those very things.

thoughts on lucas thomas and your mc’s relationship with him:

despite their obvious aesthetic differences at first glance, harley and lucas balance each other out perfectly. lucas is, truly, harley’s impulse control, and he helps her think through a lot of her good ideas to make them into rational good ideas. in return, harley knows how to sort through lucas’ problems to make them more manageable and imposes her more easygoing attitude on him when he needs it. harley has never held any grudge against him for becoming popular, as she mostly just saw him as an incredibly hard worker. for the longest time (until finding out about his struggles) she admired his work ethic, and definitely voted for him in every class election and similar situations. harley and lucas probably confide in each other / keep each other in check more than anyone else in the team. lucas was one of the gang members that harley spoke to the most throughout the ten year lapse, each conversation a short, friendly burst as they went opposite directions socially.

thoughts on stacy green and your mc’s relationship with her:

stacy is the member of the gang that, at the START of the story, harley feels she understands the least. the constant association of her with cody, britney, and jocelyn puts a very sour taste in harley’s mouth - even if stacy herself isn’t doing any of the bullying, she doesn’t say anything. their relationship reaches that deep place when stacy vents out to her that she’s being blackmailed by britney, which kicks up harley’s instinct to protect her friends. the two are pretty opposite in most ways, but their differences strengthen their friendship more than anyone else in the group. even when stacy doesn’t think of herself as a good person, harley does, and lifts her up at every opportunity she possibly can because she knows what stacy is capable of. emotionally, they are an outlet for one another about their respective social circles. physically, they are two of the most unassuming yet strongest fighters on the team, and work very well together in a battle setting.

thoughts on lily ortiz and your mc’s relationship with her:

lily is unequivocally, the one member of the original group that harley talked with the most throughout the ten year span between jane’s death and redfield’s awakening. both of them were deemed to be Losers by the popular kids, but both of them were open enough to seek each other out again from time to time, which explains how easy it is for them to talk at the start of the book, even if they didn’t necessarily consider themselves “friends” during that gap. harley is very protective of lily solely because she knows lily is good enough to give second chances to people like britney, but she never babies her, simply giving her advice when she sees fit out of the goodness of her heart. lily is one of the group members that harley actually feels most comforted by when she realizes how thin she’s trying to stretch herself to keep everything intact. all danger aside, harley and lily just genuinely think the other is so cool.

thoughts on connor green and your mc’s relationship with him:

in my narrative, harley and connor’s relationship serves as one of the foils to her relationship with noah. she didn’t pay too much mind to him when they were kids, often just thinking of him as stacy’s sill older brother, but they take an obvious interest in each other all those years later. harley doesn’t quite realize that 1. connor has a crush on her, because no one’s ever had a crush on her before or 2. that what she does could be considered flirtatious, because she’s never flirted with anyone before. any romantic feelings she has are reserved for noah, but she does value connor’s friendship a great amount and thinks he’s extremely cool. they share a lot of similarities, from not really knowing what they want to do with their lives to their generally unbothered dispositions, but what connor really wants is to, as things get more dire, save harley. what he doesn’t realize is that harley is the hero of this story.

If he controls you, then you’ll stay. Or so he thinks. It’s Hannibal, who can say what really goes through that mind of his? He would respect your boundaries, your needs, and in return would expect the absolute same - common courtesy but of course you go above and beyond for him, always for him. You dislike rude people so really, you’re almost perfect for each other (apart from you don’t share the same dietary preferences but then, few people do, so it doesn’t bother him).

Sherlock: Ooooh, Sherlock!!! anyone who tries to get in the way of either of you getting your alone time or whatever else you need. You both find emotions to be weak but because you’re a little more in touch with your own emotions than Sherlock is, you’re there to support him as well and you know when you need a good cry, etc. You’re logical like he is but insecure, a real contradiction, and in his usual tactless way, Sherlock would use cold, hard logic to comfort you. He’d say something like, “don’t be stupid. That won’t happen.” in his normal uncaring way, with an indignant “Sherlock!” coming from John in the background to punctuate a slightly uncomfortable environment. It’s a good thing you know and love Sherlock, because you’ll need that to make sure you don’t end up killing him while you live in 221B with him. Goodness knows John came close a couple of times :D

Edward: There’s a pact between the two of you that Edward will not, under any circumstances, read your mind without your prior spoken consent plus witnesses so he can’t try and twist your words against you. When times are desperate though, he will do so without consent because you’re damaging your mind or body. When you’re really down on yourself, Edward would tense up and suddenly hiss a, “Stop that!”, his fists clenched and his teeth biting into his inner cheeks. He would do whatever he could, even if he couldn’t fix it precisely, to help you find a healthier way to view yourself, even going so far as to ask Rosalie (who I feel experiences insecurities more than the rest of the Cullens) and Carlisle (for professional advice) on what to do. You would always be his number one priority, in everything he does. You like and prefer solitude so Edward would always mindfully avoid breaking your boundaries, though sometimes his ego gets in the way and he ends up doing exactly that. He never fully understands your anger but a brief break from you while he hunts almost always clears things up for him and he would profusely apologise, his voice sounding like he would cry if he could. He’d support you in your goal and would help you with absolutely anything - he would likely use his money, his family’s money, to get you to where you need to go. He has a crappy way of showing it sometimes, but he does love you.

Supercorp Fic 4/4

Summary: Kara leaves for a mission and when she returns, she is not entirely herself - Kara Danvers and Kara Zor-El are gone. All that is left is Supergirl, last child of Krypton and now Rao’s successor.

Chapter Summary: Supergirl finds herself drifting farther and farther from humanity, but something - someone - keeps pulling her back and involuntarily tethering her to Earth. Her efforts to discern whether the person - a mere human - was previously friend or family always comes up fruitless.

Maybe because Lena was someone that could not be fit into those two categories.

“Kara?”

The utter shock was evident in Alex’s expression and tone, and she stepped to the side, sliding the window to her apartment open. Supergirl floated into the spacious living room, dimly lit with only a nearby lamp and the television screen.

“I was worried,” Alex whispered, taking her little sister’s fingers into her own and squeezing.

Supergirl did not reciprocate, instead, she observed the action, mesmerized.

“You need not be worried,” she reassured, felt the need to.

“Well,” Alex folded her arms, “Last month there was that neighborhood attack, then the restaurant bombing, then another assassination attempt on…”

She trailed off when she registered a subtle change in Supergirl’s expression.

A moment of silence enveloped them before a curious glint was caught in Alex’s eye.

“How’s Lena?”

“She’s…” the Kryptonian was clearly caught off guard by the question, “Injured. Recovering.”

“Did you see her? Recently?” Alex moved to the couch and Supergirl followed without a word, hovering next to the arm of the sofa.

“No,” she answered, almost in disappointment, moving to the bookshelf, “The last we spoke was two weeks ago.”

Alex hummed in reply. Lena’s and Supergirl’s interactions were always...interestingly peculiar; it was by no means steady, almost on and off - the latter would visit, usually every night, then the meetings would stop suddenly for an undetermined amount of time, only to spontaneously resume at their daily paces.

Supergirl visited Alex less often, at least once a week, but the scheduling was less...precarious, more consistent.

It was probably more stimulating as well; there were times when the Kryptonian would watch the show playing on the television and ask questions every five to ten minutes, it depended on how interesting it was. Then there was music and then there were the board games, which Alex quickly ended up scrapping because Supergirl always won.

This time the Kryptonian was occupied with the books on the agent’s shelves, which were honestly not particularly intriguing to read; the majority of them were non-fictional informational texts from Alex’s time studying in medical school.

She did purchase a hulking book of American idioms, because Supergirl had suddenly acquired a keen curiosity with them, and it did make talking to her a lot easier. She finished it shortly though, and had a small novel in her hand instead, reading next to Alex, whose eyes were glued to the screen.

“I finished your newly purchased texts regarding the topic of psychology,” Supergirl informed.

Alex did not turn from the screen, “Is there a reason you’re so interested in that? You’ve picked up interesting reading subjects lately.”

“Humans are...confusing.”

“That's all?” Alex asked, momentarily glancing over before returning her attention to the television, “I can hardly see that reason being sufficient enough to prompt you to want to read books on psychology.”

“Ms. Luthor is...confusing,” Supergirl supplied instead.

Alex's gaze rested on Supergirl for longer this time, a brow quirked.

Of course.

Then she turned back to her screen.

She also fought off a grimace at how Supergirl - Kara - addressed her former best friend. She was not the only victim though. Winn was Mr. Schott. James was Mr. Olsen. Even Clark was Mr. Kent.

Alex was always Alexandra though. More formal, but more familiar.

Everyone’s bond with Supergirl was unique. Special with their roles in their own little ways.

Alex often found herself exchanging her point of view to the goddess for more...human situations.

Cat was straightforward, blunt, and practical with her advice, but was rarely visited.

Maggie and Supergirl seldom encountered one another, but when they did, it was always when their duties clashed - they were civil though, discussed the jurisdiction of the police and the latter’s heroic antics.

J’onn was relatively quiet, only informing the Kryptonian of missions the D.E.O. needed to accomplish, but there was a connection there, no matter how brief. He kept her old suit as well, when it was discarded the moment Kara transcended.

Clark and Mon-El were reminders of Krypton, though she almost never sought them out.

James and Lucy often brought Supergirl around to experience the life of humans whether it was taking photos or going out for a quick bite, even with all the gawking.

Winn cracked jokes as many times as he could to get a smile out of her whenever she was at the D.E.O. It never worked and Alex believed it was because of Kara’s current condition and the fact that Winn was not funny.

Eliza and Supergirl did not speak often, the latter only visited for the rare desire of peace and quiet in Midvale - perhaps the silently warm comfort of a mother.

Lena was...different. Alex had known of their meetings, nothing past that, but Supergirl often left from them more...normal. Maybe even to say more emotional, more passionate, but that was all normal for Kara.

“They won’t stop talking about it, you know?” Alex said.

Supergirl’s ears perked up at the sentence, followed by the name ‘Lena Luthor’ emitted from the television set. She raised her head to rest her gaze onto the news anchor, spewing out some biased details. Then her focus trained on Alex, if she was going to hear nonsensical human jargon, she would much rather hear it from her.

“Some people say Lena was a hero,” the agent started, lifting the remote from her coffee table and lowering the volume, “Most say Lena set the stage up. You know, for some good publicity.”

“At the price of her own well-being?”

Supergirl’s voice had a skeptical lilt to it, almost disbelieving, almost irked.

“Ha,” Alex threw her head back, “Right? Like, I get where everyone’s anti-Luthor mentality comes from, but she's consistently shown that she's not like her family, and...people - humans - are just a little difficult to fully understand sometimes.”

Supergirl nodded in agreement, turning back to the jumbled words in her book, “Is that why Ms. Luthor tends to be-”

“Aloof? Cold? Distant? Unapproachable? Lonely?” Alex shrugged, “Maybe.”

Supergirl tilted her head, “She is not alone. Her secretary assists her often.”

The agent chuckled softly, “No. There’s a difference between being alone and being lonely.”

“Enlighten me.”

Alex shrugged again, “Well, for starters, you can still be around people and feel lonely. I guess it’s like a part of you is missing - it feels empty, hollow, like nothing can really fill it, like no one really understands you,” she sighed, “If it weren’t for you or J’onn I might’ve still been drunkenly partying around all the time - alcohol is a temporary coping mechanism.”

“Ms. Luthor drinks a lot,” Supergirl stated.

Alex winced, “Yeah, I’ve seen how much liquor she can hold. She’s worse than I am.”

“Are familial, platonic, and romantic relationships not supposed to remedy negative feelings?”

“They do,” she answered, “Ninety-nine percent of the time the people you’re close to really help out.”

“What about the one percent?” Supergirl inquired.

“What?”

“Aside from the ninety-nine percent.”

Alex frowned, relaxed into her cushions and sighed, “Well, the one percent of the time you’re Lena Luthor I guess.”

“How so?”

“Her shady background prompted some sketchy sleuthing, Winn and I conducted an investigation on her history. There was enough information on Lex, of course, and plenty to go around about Lionel and Lillian. But Lena was always under the radar.”

“What was ‘under the radar’?” Supergirl repeated.

Alex shifted uncomfortably, “Adoption history, a few medical bills, filed charges, her standardized test scores and report cards, which, wow by the way - she did a lot better in school than Lex did, and everyone says he’s a genius, but maybe he was just too busy with his anti-alien agenda-”

“Medical bills?”

Alex’s tone sounded uneasy, “The first one was a year after her adoption, she was five, and it was for a broken arm. The next was when she was seven, she dislocated her ankle. Ten years old she shattered a kneecap. Fourteen when she had a fractured scapula. Sixteen she was brought in with a broken femur. Seventeen she dislocated her shoulder and elbow. I mean, the Luthors certainly couldn’t cite that she was clumsy, might’ve worked the first two times if they were lucky. But some of her injuries festered over time: old cuts, old bruises, et cetera. So, I looked into the primary hospital that treated her and they already had a good influx of donations, but the times surrounding Lena’s ‘accidents’ were when they had a donor that provided a ridiculously large sum of money.”

“You are implying she was abused,” Supergirl deduced.

Alex’s voice grew more distressed, “Yeah. Physically, emotionally, who knows what else. And it definitely explains the charges Lena filed against her mom and dad the moment she hit eighteen, but I couldn’t get into them, even with Winn’s computer skills - the Luthors really wanted that part hidden from the public.”

There was silence, perhaps on Supergirls side because she was digesting the information slowly.

Then Alex ran a hand through her hair, “I didn’t like her at first, ‘cause, you know, she was a Luthor - I didn’t trust her. Then you two became friends and I had to change my perspective a little; she was polite, stubborn, but really genuine with you,” her voice softened into a gentle tone, “Lena was still a little wary and standoffish towards everyone else, but I couldn’t really determine my next opinion of her without some research on why that woman practically never smiled, so...I got Winn’s help, and I guess I shouldn't have been so surprised when I figured out the answer.”

She chanced a glance over to her sister, still floating in the air in her sacred attire, her face like stone, frozen into an unreadable expression.

“She grew up rich, really rich, but she raised herself ‘cause all the support and love went to Lex. She had wealth though, but it wasn’t the usual case of a kid lacking in attention and given money as a substitute and hoping for the best. No, there was that, and neglect, and abuse. It must’ve been a constant nightmare for Lena.”

“Indeed.”

The voice was almost speechless, came out wavered, mostly even, but the fluctuation carried a cumbersome weight to it.

Alex observed Supergirl staring blankly past the pages of the text she was previously reading, and her eyes skimmed over the cover of the book.

“Menander? You’re interested in Greek texts now? What story?”

“I completed Dyskolos - The Misanthrope. I am currently reading excerpts from all of his fragmented works that were lost in the Middle Ages.”

Alex leaned over and read the title page, “Dis Exapaton - The Double Deceiver? Again? You keep coming back to that.”

“There is a maxim that he wrote that has held my interest.”

The agent chuckled lightly, “Another idiom you want to decipher?”

Supergirl’s eyes softened a tiny fraction, and after Alex has been so accommodated to her stoicness, she easily caught the change.

It seemed troubled.

Her eyes narrowed slightly when Supergirl shut the book with a quiet thud and placed it back on the shelf.

“I must go,” she said, quickly met with a firm hug from Alex.

“Take care, Kara.”

She hovered towards the window, “It is late.”

She gripped the frame, her body almost out of the exit before she turned.

Her eyes seemed to be in turmoil as she gave a nod, clear even in the dark, “Goodbye,” there was hesitation, a little something that seemed like humanity, “Alex.”

Then she left into the night.

She kept going back.

She did not know why, but she did.

At the end of the day, the week, the month...after a particularly taxing mission, she usually found herself atop L-Corp’s balcony.

And she knew it must have had everything to do with the woman who owned the building.

Lena Luthor.

Though she was uncertain to why she was so drawn to the C.E.O. - the invisible pull was there almost every minute of every day.

Especially now.

Because Lena made her feel something, something different than what anyone else offered.

It was best described as something between familial and platonic, but there were many times where it felt different from the two altogether; the something Supergirl felt with her family and friends was gradual, subtle, and comfortable.

Lena caused a fiery spark of something, but it came and went within a heartbeat, and the Kryptonian found herself pursuing it constantly, almost addictively.

The godly facade was being peeled apart by everyone, gently, carefully.

Lena was tearing those walls apart with such passionate ease, but it was not gentle nor careful, more messy than everyone else’s methods, gaining its pace exponentially, and Lena herself was probably unaware of her affects.

Supergirl tentatively floated, on the other side of the balcony, and kept her distance. She observed the woman, hair down, almost slouched, hunched over with her token alcoholic beverage in hand. Her fingers were wrapped around the railing, gripping so hard her own knuckles might have broken.

If it were not for the Kryptonian gliding over to unclench them.

Lena flinched, pulled her hand away.

“You drink,” Supergirl said, eyeing the liquor with something akin to distaste, “Often.”

“Why’re you here?” her tone was quiet, a little snappy, thankfully not drunken, “Don’t you have better things to do? Like save the world?”

The last remnants of bitterness from the incident were still there.

“You are still injured,” Supergirl stated, “You almost died. You should be resting.”

“I know you didn’t come here just to check up on my condition,” Lena hummed, clicking her tongue, “You sound like you want to say something else.”

Supergirl hovered next to her on the balcony, her voice a tad lower, “We spoke of idioms some time ago.”

Lena recalled the memory, and it was a pleasant one judging from the smirk that lifted her lips, “Yes, why don’t you cut to the chase?”

Supergirl did not entertain the sassy remark, her lips twitched, almost unsettled.

“I discovered yet another.”

A small but sad though eager smile colored Lena’s face, “And that is?”

A pause.

“‘Those whom the gods love die young’.”

Lena’s breath hitched and her eyes widened in surprise, but her features were hastily schooled into a hardened expression.

“Why’re you telling me this?”

“I seek an answer, because when I read it...there was a weight within my chest,” another heavy pause, “I thought of you... I do not understand what that means,” she turned, her celestial eyes boring into earthly emeralds, “Tell me, what does it mean?”

Lena knew what she was really asking, but she evaded it anyway with an intellectual answer, because logic was easy to fall into, “That phrase is often used when someone dies young, below the average lifespan. Around eighty years here in the U.S.”

“I did not mean the idiom,” Supergirl notified softly.

Lena swallowed, felt her chest and lungs and vocal cords numb, maybe it was because of the injuries, but she was smart, she knew better.

“Then I can't tell you what you want to know,” she informed, “I can't give you an answer for that. I’m sorry.”

Supergirl nodded, “Explain to me why humans utilize that idiom then.”

That Lena could do, it was easy, “It’s a form of comfort for those who have lost someone too early.”

“Does it comfort you?”

“No.”

Supergirl’s brows furrowed in confusion and Lena averted her eyes to avoid that crinkle.

“You lack faith and hope. Your hardships have made you cynical and pessimistic,” the goddess stated.

The Luthor scoffed, “Ha. No. I’m realistic. I’m a realist.”

Supergirl felt something stir in the pit of her stomach, it was heated and bubbling, and it made her tone slightly harsher, “You are a misanthrope.”

Lena chuckled humorlessly, “Same thing.”

Supergirl narrowed her eyes, some part of her holy exterior cracked.

The vomit of words came out from her subconscious, and a part of it was meant to inform and to hurt, to inflict pain, “My observations have informed me that you severely lack in the self-worth department. You drink. Too much,” there was no control, the words would not stop, and she murderously glared at the glass of alcohol in Lena’s hand, “More so now because you can drown yourself and become numb to your emotions. You are plagued by insomnia and self-hatred and it suffocates you. It is not necessarily that your mind constantly berates, but when the time comes to prove yourself or to make decisions regarding something or someone with high losses and gains, you are often doubtful and loathing of your abilities; it is due to everyone in your past undermining your accomplishments and favoring your bro-”

Lena’s eyes flared and a loud slap resonated through Supergirl’s acute ears.

She felt a tingling sensation on her cheek, saw the human wince and retract her arm back to her side.

The angry heat in her stomach was replaced with worry, and suddenly she was startled - belatedly so - at her own words, at how utterly human it was from start to finish, from the intention to the inflection.

“Your han-”

“Shut the fuck up,” Lena scowled, her eye twitched from holding back a pained grimace, “You know nothing about me, Supergirl,” she drew back at the name, shrank in her stance, “Get the hell out of my office.”

She watched a tear, then another, fall from the woman’s regretful eyes, in such pain that the already jaded green hue encased in them dulled impossibly further.

Supergirl felt a pang in her chest, her heart stuttered with remorse.

“I am sorry…”

Lena dipped her head at the apology and wiped her tears, then pinched the bridge of her nose.

She took a deep, unsettled breath.

“Me too…”

There was a lump in Supergirl’s throat, and she took a step forward, then another, and then another, until she was standing tall before the Luthor in front of her.

Lena tilted her head up to connect their eyes.

“I have difficulties determining who you are - were - to me,” Supergirl confessed, stroking the dark tresses with the tips of her fingers, “To Kara Danvers.”

Lena swallowed, eyes fluttering at the action as she waited for her to finish.

“You are not someone more nor someone less; you are neither friend nor family,” Supergirl let her hand drop away, “I do not understand. You often feel like both, but you also often feel...different to me. Figuratively,” she raised her hand again, placed it gently against Lena’s cheek, caressing the wet trails with her thumb, and the skin contact buzzed with electricity, “And literally.”

Lena’s breath caught in her throat and she stepped back, away from the emotions, away from what she was feeling, “We were best friends. That’s all.”

Supergirl’s hand stayed suspended in the empty air before returning to her side.

“I see,” she said, melancholic.

Lena saw something dawn on the Kryptonian’s face, a sort of epiphany that enlightened her.

“Did I belong to you?”

The suddenness of the statement caught Lena off guard, left her speechless.

“P-Pardon?”

“Was I yours?” Supergirl rephrased, “Were you mine?”

“No,” Lena released a breath, “We were never...” she waved her hand casually, “...romantically involved.”

“I understand.”

Then, “You are cold.”

Lena forced a smile, kept her shivering under control after the comment, “Well, it does get chilly at night. Or do you mean it figuratively?”

Supergirl unclasped her cape from her shoulders, draped the holy fabric over the human.

A moment passed.

“What happened to you? To Kara?” Lena asked, brushing the shock off from her system as she tugged the cape closer to her body. She fought back another wince when her hand protested the movement.

Supergirl waited a moment, contemplated.

“I encountered several Kryptonians, they originated from the remains of Fort Rozz, unassociated with Non and Astra In-Ze,” she explained, “They called themselves the Sun Thrivers - a rogue religious sect banished from Krypton. They stirred trouble, I went to investigate. One of them was a high priest, known as the Voice of Rao, who was endowed with the privilege of speaking directly to the god; he chose me to carry on the legacy as I was still young, but retained Krypton’s memories. They conducted an ancient ritual, imbued me with the reincarnation of Rao.”

There was more silence, and it deepened torturously, lingered with its somberness.

“I’m grieving,” Lena blurted out, then more tears spilled, “I'm grieving for someone who isn't dead,” she turned to Supergirl, eyes ardent with anger and terribly forlorn, “Kara isn't dead,” her voice broke, cracked open, showcased her vulnerability with its heaviness, “She's just...she's just gone…”

“I am sorry.”

“Apologies don’t fix everything,” Lena whispered hoarsely.

Supergirl nodded, her expression solemn, “I have been made aware.”

“I loved you,” she cried, soft, gentle, “I loved Kara. I still do.”

“I am still her,” Supergirl tried, she felt something prickle and sting at her eyes, “I am still Kara Danvers. I am still your-”

“No,” Lena croaked, tightening her grip on the cape over her shoulders, “You’re not. You’re-”

Something impulsive drove Supergirl, caused her to surge forward and roughly capture the woman’s lips with her own.

The moment she decided to pull away, Lena deepened the kiss, a hand slipped around the hero’s waist, the other clawed up her strong back before resting atop a broad shoulder. She grimaced when a sharp pain shot up her wrist, but ignored it.

Something primal snapped inside Supergirl and she pushed forward, slammed Lena against the glass separating the building from the balcony with a thud, earning her a groan of pleasure.

The soft mewls and whimpers quickly shifted into a noise that sounded like growling and Lena’s hands dug farther into the Kryptonian’s muscular body, desperate for skin.

Supergirl followed quickly by dancing her fingers up Lena’s skirt, hiking it up to her hips as she caressed the supple alabaster flesh. Then she squeezed once, twice, before shoving her body closer and pinning the human farther onto the glass.

Lena grunted at the force, then moaned when a firm hand lifted a leg up and she curved it around the hero’s hips.

The kisses became wetter, messier, then Supergirl trailed her lips down to the hollow of Lena’s throat and sucked.

The woman released a high-pitched moan and brought her hands up around the Kryptonian’s neck, played with the hair along her nape with feathery strokes, urging her on.

Lena sighed, set her leg down and lifted the other up, pressing between Supergirl’s legs, who gasped at the sensation.

She returned the action soon after and it prompted Lena to bite down, hard, into unbreakable lips.

It encouraged Supergirl to press her thigh harder into the Luthor, who threw her head back, her neck vulnerable and so beautifully pale.

Supergirl was quick to assault it with her lips, teeth nipping here and there, then to the shoulders, then to the collarbone.

“Fuck.”

Lena was overwhelmed, began to ride Supergirl’s thigh desperately, bucking her hips in a wildly uncontrolled manner as she felt the coil in the pit of her stomach intensify, and she returned the favor simultaneously.

Supergirl encouraged her, swallowed her shaky moans with her lips, reveled in the dampness that was on her thigh and in between her own legs.

Somewhere in the back of her mind she registered the fact that this was what humans called ‘arousal’, ‘consummating’, ‘love’, and she - a goddess chosen - was engaging in them swiftly and thoroughly.

Supergirl pulled back, pressed their foreheads together, watched as Lena grew more and more sensitive to touch, heard as Lena’s voice grew higher in pitch as she got closer, felt as Lena’s flesh was coated in a light sheen of sweat.

She came with a weak and strangled cry, sinking her head into the crook of Supergirl’s neck and biting into the bulletproof skin to muffle herself, and the hero followed shortly after with ragged breaths.

Lena’s hips slowed and her whines quieted to shallow pants, and Supergirl found herself surprised at how dismayed she was at the fact she was no longer hearing the woman’s moans.

She also found yet another powerful urge to kiss her and leaned in to plant another, fluttering her eyes shut, only to be met with a tear-stained cheek when Lena turned away. Then there was a hand pressing against Supergirl’s chest, pushing her away, and she took a small step back, but her hand was still wrapped around the woman’s waist.

“No. I...I can’t. You have a higher calling than…” Lena gestured between them, “...this. You were chosen, you're meant to be something great, and you can't be that here.”

Supergirl shook her head, “It was a gift. I’m not obligated to keep it.”

Lena took a shaky breath, dipped her gaze to the floor.

Her eyes widened.

When did Supergirl land?

“You’re…” she felt her heart rate increase, “...on th-the ground.”

She snapped her head back up to see blue eyes overflowing with tears.

“I don't want this, Lena.”

“K-Kara?”

“I want to go home,” she whispered, “I want to have a proper sister night with Alex, I want to play video games with Winn, I want to eat pizza and potstickers, I-I want...I want you, Lena.”

“Kara, what’s - Kara!”

She collapsed to her knees, onto the floor, unconscious. Lena followed her to the ground, her arms firmly embracing her, panicking when a white aura surrounded her friend.

She watched as Supergirl’s divine suit shimmered away to reveal the nakedness underneath.

The next time Lena saw her was a week later, when she was leaned against her desk and carefully observing the television. It was bright into the afternoon, the sun shining through her balcony. It was very unlike her previous meetings with Supergirl, though that was not the only difference.

“Water?”

Lena pivoted to see the girl of steel touch the floor of her building, wearing her old suit and that sparkling grin.

She darted her gaze to the beverage she was holding, not amber in color as usual.

“It’s a little too early for alcohol I’d say,” she hummed, gave a small and somewhat uneasy smile.

Kara took a step closer, her grin still scintillating, but there was a crinkle between her brows as she sought to connect their gazes, “That’s never exactly held you back from drinking.”

Lena chuckled, averted her eyes, refused to match it, “You make a point.”

A moment passed.

“How’s your hand?”

The Luthor raised a perfect brow, then dipped her head in shame, observing her cast.

“I was hoping your transition would erase your memories. You remember?”

“Hard not to,” Kara replied, her crinkle intensifying as her friend continued to avoid her eyes, “The bones didn’t sound too good when you slapped me.”

Lena grimaced, “Yeah, I’m sorry about that, truly.”

“Me too,” Kara said softly, “You weren’t in a good place, I should’ve recognized that, especially after the reveal. I guess I should work on boundaries.”

The Luthor shot her eyes up, but the cowardice had it stop at the sight of the emblem of hope, carefully crafted into the navy fabric.

“That wasn’t you that time,” she argued, “Not all of it.”

“Not all of it,” Kara repeated, “But my tendency to ramble was unfortunately passed on to the godly version of me.”

“And the crinkle,” Lena mumbled, and she immediately bit her lip after those words fell from her tongue.

She quickly evaded Kara’s reply.

“Do you remember everything?” she inquired, “When you became Supergirl full-time?”

“I do,” came the answer, “Listen, I-”

“You don’t have to,” Lena cut in, “I understand. You didn’t mean to. It was…” she turned away, made for her cupboard, “...a lapse in judgement,” she pulled out a bottle of vodka, “A mistake.”

She poured the liquor into her new cup and it sloshed, made a mess around her counter before shooting it straight down her throat.

“No,” Kara protested, “That’s not-”

“You don’t have to explain yourself,” Lena interjected, pouring herself another glass, “I have a meeting in ten-”

Kara gripped her friend’s wrist, halting it from bringing more alcohol into her system.

“Stop,” she pleaded, her voice firm, “Just...listen to me.”

Lena pressed her lips into a thin line before nodding, steeling herself up for what was to come.

Kara gently pried her fingers from the glass and set the liquor down onto the counter.

She failed again to connect their gazes.

“Do you really think that it was a mistake?”

Her friend remained silent.

Kara sighed, “You’re right, it was a lapse in judgement.”

Lena winced, drew back and shrank from the statement, the pain was evident on her face.

“But I didn’t regret it,” she added, taking her friend’s good hand into her own, “I only wish it could’ve been better. For us. Because you deserved more than…” she shook her head, “...whatever that was. Our feelings are mutual.”

Lena’s eyes widened a fraction and her heart skipped a beat.

“We can move on from this,” Kara continued, gently rubbing soothing circles on the back of Lena’s palm, “We can have a little bit of a fresh start you know. There’s this new fancy restaurant that opened, I heard their kale dishes were amazing.”

The worry ate at her the more the silence fleshed out.

“Hey.”

At this point she was almost begging for a reaction. Then she placed Lena’s hand on her own cheek.

“Hey,” she tried again, desperate, “Look at me.”

Kara stepped closer, invaded her personal space, lifted the woman’s chin up until their eyes finally connected.

“It’s me,” she murmured.

Lena’s emerald eyes blinked, seemingly just registered the familiar blue in front of her.

Her thumb stroked the strong cheekbone.

“It’s me, Lena,” Kara whispered.

Lena smiled, “I wasn’t quite sure, you used ‘kale’ and ‘awesome’ in the same sentence.”

They both chuckled, planted a chaste kiss upon each other’s lips.

001. he’s taken over as CEO of his father’s entertainment company. however, he runs the place the same way his father did: from the background. he has people, whom both he and his father trust, handling the majority of things, but wonjae does need to sign off on all major decisions. he also has a say in who the company signs and keeps an eye on the financials.

002. he’s never been in a proper relationship or had a crush on anyone until settling down in seoul. growing up, he was much too focused on school and being the perfect son ( not because he HAD to be, but because he wanted to be )

003. tho he is very much a cinnamon roll, he doesn’t have an issue telling you off. disrespect is a sure fire way to get on his bad side, especially if he witnesses you being disrespectful to someone else. while on the subject of disrespect, i highly suggest you treat your parents VERY well when in his company, otherwise you will get an ear full.

004. he wants to cover up his back tattoo because it’s no longer true for him, however it’s a matching tattoo he got with his father and he just doesn’t have the heart to alter it in any way.

I wanna send BlueEx ships for the meme but I'm having a hard time choosing one. Pick your favorite between Rin, Shiemi, Bon and/or Izumo x3

Rin/Shiemi:

I definitely ship this.

Aside from the fact that I’m 95% sure that this is going to be the canon endgame pairing (or at least one of them), this is one of the rare cases in shounen manga where I feel perfectly comfortable and happy with that because of how wonderfully it’s being developed. Although it was established pretty much from the start that Rin thought Shiemi was hecka cute and had a huge crush on her, their relationship has still been primarily developed in the arena of friendship rather than the arena of love interests. I mean, for starters, Shiemi hasn’t even realized until recently that dating Rin/being romantically involved with him is even a possibility; and when she did realize it, she asked him what the difference between romance and friendship was, because she honestly didn’t know (given that this would be her first relationship and they’re both still quite young!), and he didn’t have a real answer either (aside from what you’d expect from a hormonal teenage boy =P). Because of this, all of their interactions from Shiemi’s side have been steadfastly rooted in friendship, particularly since Rin was one of the first friends that Shiemi ever had (her second ever friend, actually, after Yukio), and she didn’t even realize that he considered her to be a friend at first, considering he was stupid and lied about it when Bon teased him about it right after Shiemi started attending the cram school.

And you know what? From Rin’s side, things have been pretty focused on friendship, too! While not as obvious as Shiemi, Rin also has a pretty much friendless background; he was always getting into fights and being disruptive as a kid, and as such pretty much no one outside of his family wanted anything to do with him. The fact that the other ExWires consider him a friend is shocking to him, which is what makes it so heartbreaking when they all become terrified of him a couple scenes later thanks to Amaimon’s shenanigans in the woods. But it’s because of this that even though Rin has a crush on Shiemi (and has since he saw her, pretty much), his interactions with her have still primarily been platonic. Even in instances where he confessed that he liked her, or asked her to dance—even in those cases, Rin still put their friendship first, rather than his desire to date her. They’ve been steadily coming closer as friends and companions rather than love interests, growing as people in addition to building their budding relationship. And we can see that this is only going to continue with Shiemi formally turning him down for the time being, because she feels that she still has a lot of growing to do, and wants to continue to grow as a person (and wants him to wait for her, though she refuses to say that out loud because she knows it isn’t fair—baby). So this is a rare situation in a shounen manga where it’s very, very evident that even though Shiemi is Rin’s primary love interest, she’s also much more than just his love interest, and whatever eventual romance they have is going to be one built on a solid foundation of friendship. I’m pretty sure this is going to end up canon, and I’m excited for it, because we’re seeing relationship development in this series on par with FMA, and that’s pretty hard to accomplish.

Rin/Bon:

But that said, I also definitely ship this!

I’m pretty sure that the BlueEx mangaka is going to go the typical route of only having het ships, so I don’t have any hope for this one being canon. But that said, if it was, I’d be really happy with it! This is one of those rare instances in shounen manga (so many of those) where we see an actually healthy rivalry. Rin and Bon are rivals, sure, but they’re rivals who encourage, inspire, and support each other. Even when they fight, it’s clear that they aren’t fighting with the intention to be hurtful, per se, but rather because they’re coming from opposite views and they’re both headstrong, passionate people who sometimes have a hard time seeing where someone else is coming from. This has made it difficult for both of them to reconcile with others in the past (most notably, both of their fathers—but god damn it, Bon, Rin warned you). But with all of that said, it’s also pretty apparent how they each care about the other quite a bit and hold them in high esteem. Rin has felt that Bon was super cool since the moment they met (and only had that opinion drop when he saw Bon going off on his own father, making the same mistakes that Rin himself did), and while Bon was eternally frustrated by what he saw as a lackadaisical attitude from Rin at first, the fact that Rin continually managed to succeed and so very plainly cared about all of them regardless of the circumstances won Bon’s respect, too. I also think that, as of S2E5, Rin flipping out on Bon for treating his father like that has cut deep to Bon’s core as well. I think that is what is inspiring his change of heart toward Rin after the whole “son of Satan” thing repulsed him so.

Essentially, I think these two are a wonderful example of rivals who actually boost each other up rather than tearing each other down. They have a lot of similarities and differences, and while this causes clashing sometimes I think that, on the whole, they work beautifully together. So I ship this, too. x3

Rin/Izumo:

I like this … but I lean more toward brotp.

I do think that Rin and Izumo work pretty well together. They’re both honest, blunt people, which means that communication isn’t likely to be an issue. Izumo also knows what it is to be a pariah, ostracized and looked down upon by others for being unapproachable or frightening, which I think is a big part of the reason why she was the first of the ExWires to reach out to Rin after what happened in the forest. Rin isn’t afraid to cut right through Izumo’s BS, either, which is something that she needs considering that she has a lot of it (I mean, I love her, but it’s true). So I definitely see the merits in this ship, especially since—like every other possible ship among the ExWires—it’s been developed wonderfully as a friendship.

That said, I will admit that the attitudes of some Rin/Izumo shippers have been pretty terrible from what I’ve seen. Namely, I’ve seen quite a few of them tearing down Shiemi with some pretty horrible things (everything from calling her a useless bimbo to accusing her of not caring about/being afraid of an ungrateful toward Rin, wtf), and that kind of behavior can cool me off a ship real fast. It’s fine if you prefer Rin/Izumo, but you don’t have to bash Shiemi or Rin/Shiemi in the process of celebrating your ship, you know? So I do like Rin/Izumo, but at the moment I’m more solidly in brotp territory thanks to the way some Rin/Izumo shippers have behaved.

Bon/Shiemi:

I haven’t really thought about this too much, but I think it could be really cute! I could see Bon getting flustered with trying to date someone like Shiemi, who is still pretty sweet and, well … I don’t want to say naive, but she is learning about romance via shoujo manga, so. =P (Which isn’t all that different from Rin, so hey!) I could especially see Bon trying to follow tropes to the letter, too, but getting flustered when things don’t go exactly the way he thinks they’re supposed to, and ultimately just throwing caution to the wind to just be himself. I don’t know, I really haven’t thought about it, but it could be cute! I wouldn’t be opposed, even if I mostly see them as a brotp at the moment.

Bon/Izumo:

Again, I haven’t thought about this one a lot either, but it could be cute/funny, even if I … don’t really see any romantic chemistry between them at the moment at all, heh. I’ll have to get farther in the series before I can really make a judgment on this one either way, since at the moment they haven’t interacted very much beyond insults and arguing.

Izumo/Shiemi:

EXORCIST GIRLFRIENDS. I really, really like this one because of all the wonderful development they’ve had. I mean, let’s not kid ourselves, they started off on a horrible foot. Izumo was downright horrid to Shiemi (something Paku called her out on, finally), and Shiemi took it because she was so desperate to make a real friend for what she felt was the first time in her life (because she didn’t feel that she was on equal footing with the Okumura twins). But thanks to Paku’s callout and Shiemi’s steadfast tendency to be wonderful, Izumo realized the error of her ways and has really improved. These two have had a steadily developing relationship built around the fact that they encourage and support each other. Izumo, thanks to Shiemi’s support, is realizing that there are people who support her outside of her one friend (Paku). And Shiemi, thanks to Izumo’s encouragement, is finding her own confidence and inner strength and is learning to stand back up when things get her down. I’ve also seen spoilers from a most recent chapter in which, after Shiemi makes a rather shocking declaration, Izumo is the one most upset about it, which really shows how far they’ve come, both as individuals and as companions.

So yeah, I definitely ship the exorcist girlfriends. ♥ They’ve come a very long way and I’m so, so happy that they’ve been allowed to develop such a strong, wonderful relationship outside of their relationships with the male characters. Seriously, bless Blue Exorcist, it makes me so happy. ♥

Capricorn (I have marked certain aspects that I feel really connect with Emmeline)

Capricorn is a Cardinal earth sign, ruled by Saturn. As the 10th sign of the zodiac, the Capricorn individual is stable, hard-working, practical, methodical, and ambitious, never losing sight of his goals regardless of how many obstacles are in the way.
