Chapter 3 | Chapter 5
The guilt settled in when I saw Bokuto the next day. He looked horrible, the dark circles under his eyes said it all. His eyes didn't shine as bright and he didn't try and talk to me. Akaashi hasn't either
A week and a half passed after the library incident and neither of them had made an attempt to talk to me. I was prepared to be alone permanently, after high school I'll go to some college and meet someone new. Right?
Wrong.
How terribly wrong I was to think that they had all given up when the most persistent person alive has yet to confront me.
From Kuroo: We need to talk
So much for a relaxing Saturday afternoon.
To Kuroo: No we don’t, I already told the others that they wouldn’t understand so just give it a rest. Sorry Mr. Chemistry, but I don’t believe in soulmates. I never have and I doubt I will.
From Kuroo: Who said soulmates can’t just be friends with each other?
He had me there.
To Kuroo: Fine, but I’m not doing this over text.
From Kuroo: I’m on my way over
To Kuroo: No, I haven’t had friends over since elementary school and I’m not starting now. Where do you want to meet up?
From Kuroo: The park that we all used to hang out at, I’ll be there in ten
I sighed dramatically and got changed. He can wait for all I care, it's a five minute walk and I haven't even fully woken up yet. I slipped on a pair on leggings, a long sleeve and a sweater, my hair pulled back into a messy bun as I checked to make sure I have everything. It was starting to cool off a little, but just enough that I did need to layer. Just enough that the wind is starting to chill.
Once I got to the park, it was like muscle memory took over as I walked to what we used to call our designated bench. Kuroo was already there, sitting patiently until he saw me. He sprung up and went for a hug but I stepped back, a discomfited look taking over his features.
“Sorry, I uh, don’t really like being touched.” My voice was awkward as I sat down, Kuroo sitting down a few inches away from me.
“You suck at lying.” My cheeks flared but I blamed it on the wind. “Physical affection is basically your main love language, platonic or romantic. You told me that you were touch starved constantly even if Koutarou would be all over you. You don’t have to lie to me, you’ve never been able to.” I swallowed the lump in my throat, not expecting him to be this forward about it. “So what changed? I see what those two mean, you’re different now.”
“A lot changed.” His head tilted towards me, not expecting me to be vague yet honest.
“Keiji has a theory,” my breathing halted for a moment, “he thinks you don’t like soulmates and run from talking about it because of your parents.” The lump in my throat swelled, they weren’t supposed to know about that. “Based off of your reaction, he was right. Him and Kou told us about what happened. But my gut is telling me there’s more to it that they don’t even know about.” Damn you Kuroo.
“You wouldn’t understand, okay? It’s not as straight forward as everyone wants to tell themselves. I get it, you all want to help or whatever but why won’t you guys just stop? You’re supposed to be mad at me because it makes it easier to stay away and feel less guilty about the choice I made.” He was silent and I looked away, fighting back the tears in my eyes.
“I never told you about my parents. They were soulmates, but they fought. All the time it was just constant fighting. So I started going to my Grandma’s house as much as possible, she lives next door to Kenma, so I would go there too. When I was nine, my parents divorced and my Grandma legally adopted me. I blamed the soulmate bond at first, thinking it would solve everything. But then I realized that it wasn’t the bond. It was the people. Both of my parent weren’t the best people separately but together? They were ten times worse. When I realized that, I was probably fourteen at the time. And I told myself that when I met them, I would do everything in my power to not make it turn out like my parents. So I don’t blame you for how you’re reacting and how you’re feeling. I don’t know what else may have happened but I do understand.” It fell silent, a thick blanket of nerves in the air.
“I’m sorry.”
“What are you apologizing for?”
“For how I left, making Bokuto think you guys did something wrong, leaving without an explanation and causing Kenma to have more panic attacks because I was just being selfish.” I bit my lip and fiddled with my fingers. “I cope by isolating. I- I shut down. I shut everyone out don’t let them see what I’m feeling. But then, I go too far. I get scared of going back so I don’t.” Because I deserve it, I don’t deserve for them to come back to me.
“We all miss you, but I think it’s time you give them a proper explanation too. Plus, you being around will help your panic attacks, along with Kenma’s. But it’s gonna be harder not giving you any physical affection, so can we get the bonds opened and we can be four guys dating with their girl best friend? And if you change your mind down the road, then we’ll go from there.” I froze up and thought about it. The vulnerability scaring me. They would be able to know so much, how I’m feeling, when I’m not okay, when I’m hurt. Bokuto isn’t smart enough to put it together unless he really thinks about it but usually he’s going to dull it down to volleyball or “emo” mode.
“I- I can’t just yet. I’m sorry. With Bo, it’s one thing because he sorta accidentally found out and grabbed my shoulder. I just, I’m not ready to be that vulnerable.” Kuroo nodded and stood up.
“Well, let’s head over to Kenma’s house. We can swing by your place and grab your PSP and medication. My Grandma lent me her car today since I wouldn’t be out long.” With a deep, shaky breath, I nodded and followed him to the car.
The entire drive was nerve rattling, the closer we got the faster my leg bounced against the car floor. Kuroo kept sending worried glances my leg every few seconds, probably concerned I was about to drill a hole in the floor with my foot. But he didn’t bring it up. Once we pulled into his driveway, I felt nauseous and clammy as the realization that this was real punched me in the face.
“You okay, little atom?” My heart twisted at the old nickname he gave me in middle school. I just nodded and kept my mouth shut, not wanting to risk another word vomit. He sighed but lead the all too familiar way to Kenma’s room. He knocked on the door and smirked, his body hiding my own. “We have a guest today.” He moved and gave me a dramatic entrance. Kenma and Akaashi stared at me in shock, but Bokuto got excited very fast. Barreling forward and encasing me in a hug. Slowly and awkwardly, I hugged back, the familiar feeling of his strong arms making me feel protected eased my nerves a small amount. He abruptly pulled away and his head hung low.
“Sorry, forgot you don’t like being touched.” He sounded like a kicked puppy and looked like one too.
“You’re alright, Bo.” His head shot up at the nickname, clearly taking it as making progress and smiled brightly.
“Alright, before he gets too excited. Say what you need to and set your boundaries. We won’t push you.” I nodded as my body buzzed with anxiety. The three of them watched intently as I awkwardly walked into the room and sat on the very edge of Kenma’s bed. The Kozume in question currently sitting in one of his bean bags, Akaashi on the bed a foot or two away from me, Bokuto opting to sit on the floor and Kuroo leaned against a wall.
“I’m sorry, for leaving abruptly, a-and with no explanation. None of you guys did anything. I just, I don’t believe in soulmates for me. After what happened with my parents, I can’t do it. I’m okay with being friends again if you all would be open to that. But, I run when I get scared. When I saw the soul symbols for the first time, I cried and I didn’t know what else to do, so I ran and it just got harder to come back. I’m sorry if any of you thought you did something wrong, I promise you didn’t. And I- uh, I’m not ready to open all the bonds yet. I’m not ready for it just yet but until I am, I’m okay with Bokuto hugging me and stuff since he already accidentally opened the bond.” Everyone was silent, but Bokuto nodded happily, liking that things were getting better. Akaashi and Kenma muttered a small okay and soon three of the boys were in a conversation. I pulled out my PSP and hesitantly invited Kenma to a game. His head snapped up, instantly meeting my eyes and allowed the smallest of smiles out before joining.

Four of Them, One of Me
Summary: Soul bonds are usually a wonderful thing. Until you had four of them, which you do. You also know who one of your soulmates is, the only problem is that he has three boyfriends, whom you have never met in person.
TW: mentions of toxic parents and implied worries of abuse, but it's nothing too graphic, self-esteem issues. If I missed anything, please let me know.
A/N: I've been reading too many soulmate AUs recently.
“Are you excited?” Kei asked as he followed you to your room.
“I am,” you admitted. “I’ve been wanting to go with you guys to a training camp, but I never thought I would be able to. I thought that there were rules for this.”
“You just had to ask,” Kei told you. “Trust me, we need the extra help.”
“You’re just excited to see Akaashi-san, Kuroo-san, and Bokuto-san again,” you teased.
Kei’s soulmates were all in Tokyo, and they were all older than him, so he wasn’t able to see them very often, and you knew that he missed them a lot (you caught him smiling at his phone with a mix of adoration and loneliness sometimes).
“That’s not the only reason I’m excited to go,” he retorted, but you both heard the ‘but it is the main reason’ that went unsaid.
Soulmates were an odd thing. Every soulmate pair had a different bond. Your parents could only see the color of the other’s eyes until they met, and your grandparents had dreamed of each other until they had met.
However, having more than one soulmate made it complicated.
You yourself had four bonds, which was basically unheard of.
You were covered in injuries that didn’t hurt because of one soulmate, you could hear thoughts from another, one of them would draw or write on their skin and it would show up on yours and vice versa, and then you could hear whatever music the final one was listening to at any given time.
You knew one of your soulmates was Kei, because he had been listening to the same song on repeat when his bond with you had formed when he turned fifteen. You had been in the room with him, watching him pace back and forth across his floor. You had yet to tell him that you were soulmates with him because you weren’t sure who the others were, and you weren’t sure whether you had platonic bonds with all of them or not.
It was hard to determine until you met them, because the first thing they said to you would be tattooed on your skin for the rest of your life.
Kei either hadn’t figured out that you were the last of his soulmates, or he hadn’t wanted to talk to you about it.
Kei had been pretty distraught when he had found out that he had five soulmates, panicked over having to deal with the multiple bonds and then having to decipher whether they were platonic or not. You weren’t sure he even remembered what you had first said to him. He had been disoriented for four days after he had gotten his bonds that he was barely functioning, despite reassurance from you, and Tadashi, his brother, his mom, and his dad that it was okay to have more than one soulmate.
‘This just means that your heart has more capacity than most to love, Kei.’ was written on his forearm in your familiar handwriting, in a lovely shade of rose gold. You had to admit, it was a rather poetic thing to say, especially considering how some soul marks were much more odd and/or insulting.
‘Listen Tsukki, having more than one soulmate is not a bad thing!’ was written neatly in emerald on Kei’s arm as well, but the shimmering emerald told Kei- and everyone else- that it was a platonic mark. Everyone had thought that Tadashi would be Kei’s romantic soulmate, but his marks said otherwise.
Everyone knew that emerald tattoos meant platonic relationships, and Kei and Tadashi were no different. Besides, Tadashi was very happy being romantically bonded to Terushima Yuuji from Johzenji.
Kei’s other marks were just as beautiful as the one he had for Tadashi, but these weren’t platonic, there wasn’t a single shade of green to be found.
He had ‘Oya?’ scribbled (read: barely, barely legibly written) on his arm as well in bright gold, to the left of ‘Oya oya?’ which was scrawled in better but still messy bronze handwriting. There was ‘Please excuse them, they can’t help themselves. I’m Akaashi Keiji, it’s nice to meet you.’ written so neatly it could’ve been printed directly under the first mark in platinum. Yours was to the right of the platinum mark.
His marks were beautiful, and you often caught him tracing them when he was deep in thought. You knew that the marks weren’t a different texture from the rest of his skin, and yet he knew right where they were on his body, and he was rarely ever off when he traced. It told you just how much he looked at them.
“What are you thinking about?” Kei asked as he settled at your desk.
“Just thinking about how lucky you are,” you told him, flopping down onto your bed. “You already know your soulmates and know where you stand with them. I still have to wait for mine.”
“But it’ll be worth it when you meet them,” Kei told you.
You nodded as you twisted the band that hid the mark for Kei from view.
The only bad thing about soulmate bonds was that until you met them, you couldn’t tell them your name and they couldn’t tell you theirs. One of your soulmates had memorized a picture of himself and sent it to you telepathically, which is how you knew one of your soulmates was Kuroo Tetsuro, Captain and middle blocker for the Nekoma team in Tokyo.
Kei might have been bad at expressing himself, but he did like to show off the soulmates he did have to you and to Tadashi. There had also been times when Kei had you respond to the others when he was busy in the shower, or something similar. There had been a difference in your typing styles, and they had picked up on it.
You knew that Akaashi, Bokuto, and Kuroo all knew who you were from Kei, but that didn’t mean that they knew you were their other soulmate.
“I hope you’re right,” you whispered, twisting the band ferociously.
“That’s a really bad bruise, are you sure that doesn’t hurt?” Kei asked as you crossed your legs on your bed, revealing a dark purple bruise on the side of your calf.
“I’m sure,” you told him. “It’s something one of my soulmates got the other day.”
“I’ve never understood why that is a viable soulmate bond,” Kei admitted, glancing at all of the bruises and scratches covering your body.
They didn’t cause you physical pain, but they sure looked like they would hurt if you had been the one to get them.
“I think that it was supposed to be there to let you know when they got hurt, what you might have to deal with when you meet them. That sort of thing,” you confessed. “But that’s my own theory, there aren’t many people with this bond.”
“Makes them easier to find though,” Kei muttered.
“That it does,” you murmured.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I’m too tall for this shit,” you said as you climbed off the bus.
“Imagine how I feel,” Kei muttered, “I’m taller than you are.”
“Fair enough,” you relented. “But our legs are like the same length. Heads up.”
Kei raised an eyebrow at you before he was knocked to the side by a flash of white and black, and you laughed as Bokuto spun Kei around, a blinding grin on his face.
You stepped away as Kuroo and Akaashi strode over, also smiling at their boyfriends’ antics.
You grabbed the bags out of the bus, helping the boys take their things inside as Kei stepped to the side with his boyfriends.
“Alright guys, I’ve got this, you go have fun,” you said to the others as they got their stuff sorted and stored.
“We should really help you-”
“Guys, I promise that it’s fine,” you assured them, “go!”
All of the boys shuffled off, and you smiled at them to let them know that it was fine.
You shook your head affectionately and jogged back out to the bus to grab the rest of their stuff.
The Karasuno boys weren’t what you had been expecting when you had met them for the first time, but they had quickly become family. It was like having a bunch of overprotective brothers that doubled as guard dogs.
And then there was Kei.
He was so much more than a brother, but you weren’t sure how to broach the subject with him, if you wanted to at all. You knew that Kuroo was one of your soulmates, but you weren’t sure if it was romantic or not just yet, and then there were the others. You weren’t sure whether they were your soulmates, let alone if they were romantic relationships or not.
You didn’t want to announce it and then find out that all it did was mess up the relationship they did have.
It was better to wait and find out then fuck up something good for Kei and the others.
“Okay,” you said as you joined the boys in the gym where there were games already underway, and what seemed like a lot of food related insults from someone you knew was Kuroo.
You glanced away when he glanced at you, avoiding his eyes as you looked for your team.
You spotted them in a tense game with Shinzen High, and you made your way over, scribbling things down in your notebook as you went.
“Time to see what these overprotective guard dogs can learn this time.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“(Y/F/N), come here, I want you to meet some people,” Kei called, waving you into the third gym where the rest of his boyfriends stood.
There was a tall, silver-haired kid there too, who you knew was Lev, and Hinata was standing with him looking excited.
“(Y/F/N), this is Kuroo Tetsuro, Bokuto Koutarou, and Akaashi Keiji,” Kei said, pointing to them individually. “This is (Y/N), she’s the girl I’ve been telling you all about.”
“Kei failed to mention that you were so pretty in person,” Kuroo said, grinning.
“Liar,” Kei muttered, shoving the older man’s shoulder lightly. “I showed them pictures,” he said to you.
“Yeah, but everyone knows that pictures don’t do people justice!” Bokuto told Kei. “I’ve been waiting to meet you forever, but it was worth the wait!” he told you, smiling.
Your cheeks heated, and you ducked your head.
“Ignore them,” Akaashi informed you, “they’re just excited and forget that some people can’t always handle their personalities right from the get-go. But it is nice to finally meet you too.”
“So, let me get this right,” you said slowly. “The smirking cat with the worst bed head I’ve ever seen is Kuroo, the owl that probably uses a horrendous amount of hair gel and hairspray is Bokuto, and the guy that’s prettier than me despite being a guy is Akaashi, right?”
Kei was clutching his sides laughing as you finished, and the others were looking at you with, rather comically, wide eyes.
“Yeah, that about sums it up!” Kei gasped, laughing. “Oh god!”
“You’ve got to be shitting me!” Kuroo finally cried. “That’s going to be tattooed on my arm for the rest of my life!”
“You have to admit though, she’s kind of right and- wait, what did you just say?” Kei asked, grabbing his boyfriend’s arm to look at it.
You looked at your own and grimaced, because there, right there, in the same positions as Kei’s were the marks, the same handwriting as what decorated Kei’s skin, the same colors and everything.
“Mine really isn’t all that bad,” Akaashi murmured, glancing at his own arm.
“You too?” Kei demanded.
Your breathing stopped as you realized what was happening.
You took a small step back as they boys all huddled together, and Hinata and Lev stepped closer to look as well, and you breathed a sigh of relief, because this gave you the chance you needed to escape.
You backed away, still facing them until you were out the door, and then you bolted.
You waited until you were back in the rooms for the managers before you let yourself process what had just happened.
You had found the rest of your soulmates. None of your tattoos were emerald. All four of those boys were your romantic soulmates.
But were you theirs?
It was a question you weren’t sure you wanted the answer to.
You pressed the heels of your hands into your eyes with a groan.
You pulled your phone out of your pocket and texted Kei.
Talk to your boyfriends about this. I don’t want to get in the way of anything, especially since I know how much they mean to you. Come find me when you’ve all made a decision. This doesn’t have to change anything, I promise.
You set it to the side and took a shaky breath.
This doesn’t change anything, you thought to yourself, and repeated it until you started to believe it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I’m an idiot,” Kei declared. “I should’ve recognized her handwriting. I look at it nearly every damn day!”
He ran his hands through his hair as he paced around the gym.
How had he not noticed that she was his other soulmate? How had he not noticed something so obvious?
“It’s alright Kei,” Keiji said, taking his free hand. “It could be worse.”
“How?” he demanded, then flinched at his own tone.
Keiji had the patience not to be hurt by it though. “All of our marks for her are the same color.”
That was true. Kei wasn’t sure how he would handle it if she was only platonic for one of his boyfriends, how they would deal with it. If that had been the case, they would’ve figured out how to work with it, but he was grateful that they were all the same rose gold color.
Kei wasn’t sure how he had missed it, the words on his wrist, the glimpse of words he had caught on hers, the handwriting for gods’ sake. And he wasn’t sure how he had missed the way he felt about her.
His phone dinged with a message from her, and when he looked at it, he frowned.
When had she left? How had he not noticed her slipping away?
“Well, this is off to a really crappy start,” he muttered as he opened the message.
Talk to your boyfriends about this. I don’t want to get in the way of anything, especially since I know how much they mean to you. Come find me when you’ve all made a decision. This doesn’t have to change anything, I promise.
“Well, if I wasn’t in love with her before, I am now,” he declared, reading the message aloud to his boyfriends.
Hinata and Lev had left earlier when Kei had glared harshly at them, and he sort of wished they were there now so that he could send them to find her.
“Why is she worried about this?” Bokuto asked. “Does she think that we wouldn’t want her?”
“I think she’s worried about whether or not she belongs with us. She’s been reading a lot of articles about large groups of soulmates. I’ve been trying to get her to understand, but she worries about how… worthy she is of being a part of something like that, like this.”
Silence rang for a moment, and Bokuto’s face darkened.
“What happened?”
“She really should be the one to tell you,” Kei said hesitantly, “but let’s just say that her father isn’t the most open-minded person that has ever lived.”
“Has he ever….”
No one wanted to be the one to finish the question, scared of the answer.
“Not that I know of,” Kei said, “and I’m pretty sure that she would tell me, or her mother.”
“Is… is that something we’d all be comfortable with?” Akaashi asked. “Her joining us I mean. I think that’s one of the things she wanted us to discuss.”
“I already said that I was in love with her. I’m fine with it,” Kei said.
“I think the rest of us should get to know her, but if everyone, including her, is okay with it, then yes,” Kuroo said.
“I vote yes, once we get to know her and make sure that this is what she wants too,” Akaashi agreed.
“She belongs with us, and this proves it,” Bokuto decided, glancing at his arm. “And as long as everyone is okay with it, as long as all of us want that, then I don’t see a reason not to go along with it.”
“So, where is she?”
“I might have an idea about that,” Kei admitted.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“There you are,” Kei announced as he walked into the small side room where you had taken up residence.
Your legs were thrown over the arms of the chair you were sitting in, and the lamp beside you illuminated the book you were staring at. You had been on the same paragraph for the last twenty minutes.
“You got my text?” you inquired hesitantly.
Kei nodded, kneeling in front of you, taking the book from your hands, which had started to shake.
“Why did you leave?” he asked softly.
“I thought it would be better if you and the others had some time to yourself, to decide what you wanted to do. I… I really don’t want to screw this up Kei, so it was also for me. Time to process, you know. I’ve known about you for a while, but I wasn’t prepared for the others.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Kei inquired.
“Because I didn’t want to screw anything up. I wasn’t sure how you felt about it, and I figured you would’ve brought it up to me, if you knew. I mean, that is clearly my handwriting.”
“I’m an idiot,” he said. “I should’ve figured it out.”
“Don’t worry about it,” you murmured. “So, you came to find me, that means you talked it over with the others.”
“They want to get to know you first,” Kei told you. “They’ll each make their own decision from there.”
“They know that they don’t have to, right?” you asked. “I mean, I would understand if they just wanted you. I could stay away, if that’s what they wanted.”
“None of them wanted that, (Y/F/N),” Kei told you. “They want to get to know you. Well, they want to know more about you, because I talk about you a lot.”
“What about you?” you asked, forcing the words out. “You told me about the others, but what about you?”
The smile that Kei gave you, and the way he squeezed your hands told you everything you needed to know about his decision, but you made him say it anyway.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(A few years later)
“I’m home!” you called, tossing your keys into the bowl by the doorway.
“Welcome home!”
“Hey Koutarou,” you mused, kissing his cheek as you dropped your bag and slid out of your shoes. “How was your day?”
“Good!”
You listened to him prattle on about his day as you made your way through the hallways to the kitchen where Keiji was stirring something.
“Kou,” Keiji murmured and Koutarou finished, much quieter than he had been before. “How was work?”
“Long,” you sighed, kissing him on the cheek in greeting, and making your way towards the living room where Kei was lounging, Tetsuro’s head on his stomach.
“Hey sweet pea!” Tetsu chirped before Kei swatted him on the head gently. “Sorry, long day?”
“You have no idea,” you muttered, kissing them both on the cheek before you plopped down on the loveseat.
The ringtone for work chimed from your pocket and you slipped it out, declining the call.
“Nope, I just got home,” you said to no one in particular. “You’re half an hour too late.”
Kei chuckled softly; hands threaded through Tetsuro’s hair.
Koutarou was talking excitedly in the kitchen, arms wrapped around Keiji’s waist.
You smiled gently at the scene, the pure domestic bliss you read about in romance novels and saw on TV. You had never thought that you would have something similar back in high school.
“What’s with that dopey grin?” Kei asked, catching sight of it.
“Nothing,” you mused.
I just really love my boys.
Hii Bestie !!
I wondering if I could request the Yandere Alphabet for Bokuto if you haven’t done that already.
💜
HEY BESTIE! I'd love to! Bokuto reminds me so much of an overeager puppy- it's precious-
Bokuto Koutarou (Haikyuu) -The Yandere Alphabet
🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉
Warnings: yandere themes, slight mentions of marking and spanking
A is for Affection: How do they show their affection for their darling? How often do they show it? 💖 Bokuto is the epitome of affectionate. This boy wants to cuddle, kiss, hold hands, WHATEVER he can do 24/7. 💖 Although he'll want to cuddle against you and hold you bone-crushingly close, this boy can also get a little rough. His kisses can be kind of bruising and he'll want to mark up your neck a lot. B is for Blood: How messy are they willing to get for their darling? Why? 🔪 Although I can picture Bokuto being willing to fight anyone who wants to hurt you or take you away, I actually can't see him trying to kill anyone. He's pretty sure he's the best of the best, so it's not like any of those other guys can steal you away from HIM! C is for Care or Cruelty: How would they treat their darling when they kidnap them? Would they mock them? 💔 Bokuto wouldn't mock you. In fact, he'd just be over the MOON about having you with him. You'd be smothered in kisses and crushed in his hugs. He's not going to want to make you feel bad! 💔 Bokuto is the BEST at taking care of you! He knows everything you love and he's willing to get/do ANYTHING just for you! D is for Delusion: How delusional are they when it comes to their darling? Do they believe their darling loves them? 💭 Bokuto is very, very delusional. Like, this boy sees a perfect future with you and he has no doubts that you're both going to get there soon. 💭 He's like the greatest??? You couldn't turn HIM down! He's the amazing ace- Akaashi thinks he's great so you do too! Right? Of course! E is for Expose: How much of their heart do they bear to their darling? How vulnerable are they when it comes to their darling? How much time will it take to trust them? 💧 Bokuto doesn't shut up about his feelings. Going into emo mode? Check. Whining about how much he needs your attention? Check. Letting you know just how much he adores you? Check. 💧 They talk about being an open book but Bokuto is a book you'd want to CLOSE after a while. Like seriously- he. Won't. Shut. Up. F is for Fight: How would they react if their darling fought back? 👊 Cue "kicked-puppy" noise. He's going to stare up at you with wide, watering eyes. You've gotta be completely heartless if you don't feel the TINIEST bit of guilt when you see his heartbroken expression. 👊 "I-it's okay (Y/n), I forgive you, I love you, please don't fight me, please..." he's all but begging you, even after you stop fighting. He's clinging to you and sobbing into your shirt. 👊 Your flailing fists and feet aren't actually going to do any damage to that buff man but just the idea of fighting against him leaves tons of emotional scars in your wake. G is for Guilt: What would it take for them to feel guilty about their actions? Or do they feel guilty from the start? 😔 Bokuto feels bad that he went to the extremes. He KNOWS it's so so so wrong... but it feels so so so right. He LOVES you and that's the best thing, right? That makes up for everything, right? 😔 He won't ever regret his love for you though. If he has you in the end it'll be worth everything and more! No regrets, WOOO! H is for Hell: What would be their darling’s worst experience with them? 🔥 Bokuto can be a little... well... his emotions are extreme and can flip quickly. So if he's angry enough, you could get hurt. Like, he's not going to seriously injure you, but he'll be rough. You'll be shaking in your shoes for sure. I is for Ideals: What kind of future do they have in mind for/with their darling? 👩‍❤️‍👨 If Bokuto has his way, you'll be his pretty little wife and mother of a bunch of his runts. This boy will want at LEAST 3 kids. Like I picture him being that "cool dad" that roughhouses with his little boys and carries them on his back and just jokes around with them. He's practically a giant kid himself sometimes. J is for Jealousy: How easily do they get jealous? Do they lash out or find a way to cope? 💢 Bokuto gets jealous if your attention is taken away from him. Platonically, romantically, whatever. If someone's
taking your attention and it's not him, he's gonna be PISSED. 💢 Suddenly, Bokuto is 10x needier than he's ever been. He's trying to catch your gaze, interrupting your conversation, clinging to you, etc. 💢 I mean, this boy will get jealous of a video game or TV show or book you're invested in. Not just humans. Animals too... Your attention should be solely on him, ya know! K is for Kidnap: How would they go about kidnapping their darling? How much do they plan it out? 🔒 Bokuto doesn't plan- it just kind of happens. He knew he wanted to take you away from all those attention hogs (ironic) and keep you with him and him only, but he didn't really THINK about it. It just kinda happened. 🔒 Okay, but seriously, I think he might even be more surprised than you when he kidnaps you. Like this guy's just kinda like "WOAHHH This isn't a dream? I actually did this? HEY HEY HEY" L is for Love Letters: How would they go about courting or approaching their darling? 💌 One moment you're living your normal life, the next moment there's Fukurodani's ace cooing at you and you forgot to say your last goodbyes to that normal life you'll never see again. 💌 I don't think Bokuto knows how to court, to be blunt about it. Like, Akaashi might try to give him some pointers ("You're overwhelming her." "Give her room to breathe." "Try never saying that again. Ever." "Stop, you're crushing her.") but Bokuto's pretty sure he's got this in the bag. M is for Mask: Are their true colors drastically different from the way they acted before? 🎭 Bokuto's emotions are so over the map that no one's going to really tell that he's kind of losing it. Akaashi might be able to tell, but no one else will notice a difference. 🎭 Other than his overwhelming happiness and affection for you. I mean, you'd have to be blind and deaf to not realize Bokuto has a huge crush on you. He's not even remotely subtle. N is for Naughty: How would they punish their darling? 🚓 Bokuto might try to isolate you a bit but if you make him angry- like really piss him off- I think he'd literally just bend you over his lap and spank you. Like, maybe that's weird, but I can really picture him trying to brat-tame you a bit. O is for Oppression: How many rights would they take away from their darling? What rights can be earned with time and trust? 📜 Although Bokuto's kind of overbearing and suffocating, as long as you're in his line of sight and, preferably, being touched by him, you can do whatever you want. Which... isn't a lot when he's hanging on you 24/7. P is for Patience: How patient are they with their darling? 🕊️ Patience is not one of Bokuto's virtues, unfortunately. If you take too long in the bathroom, he'll come bursting through the door. Like, this boy can't stand a full 5 minutes away from you. Having privacy is not realistic, so don't get your hopes up. Q is for Quit: If their darling dies, leaves, or successfully escapes, would they ever be able to move on? 🏃‍♀️ If you die Bokuto will go into emo mode for the rest of his life. He will be completely broken without you. He's so lost without you. You know that story where the dog waited by his owner's grave for the rest of his life? That's Bokuto. 🏃‍♀️ "Escape"? Yeah, no. Bokuto gets it, you wanted a little freedom, but it's time to come home, okay? You've already had more than enough time to yourself, so he'll come find you. And once he does, you're sure as hell never leaving again. R is for Rage: How do they act when angry? How do they calm down? 👿 "Explosive rage" is the best way to describe Bokuto's anger. You CANNOT calm him down, so it's best to book it and barricade yourself in a room until he cools down. 👿 If he's mad enough, he could hurt you, so stay the fuck away from him. He'll be throwing and breaking things and just generally yelling his head off. Again, barricade yourself in a room, it's honestly your only hope. S is for Soulmate: What made them fall in love with their darling? How did they first meet? When did they realize they loved their darling? 💍 Bokuto truly is a
love-at-first-sight kind of guy, but he fell in love with you even more as he got to know you. You either met at one of his games or in some sort of shared class. I think that you would have stood out to him in a crowd. T is for Tears: How do they feel about seeing their darling scream, cry, and/or isolate themselves? 😭 Each tear falling down your face is another crack in Bokuto's heart. He really does want you to be happy and he can't understand why you aren't. His solution is to just hold you tight until you calm down, which may not help all that much... U is for Unique: Would they do anything different from the classic yandere?
👌 Bokuto is already kind of different from the others in the way that he's not afraid to put you in your place and he has plans for the future that don't really require your cooperation. He's not changing his mind, no matter how strong your feelings are one way or the other.
👌 Not to mention, he's SUPER clingy. You can't pry him off of you. There's a strong possibility that you'll end up being very, very miserable with Bokuto. He loves you but he isn't willing to compromise or meet halfway on anything. His love is kind of selfish... more so than the average yandere.
V is for Visit: Would they allow anyone else to visit their darling? Do they trust their darling to talk to their loved ones (in person, on the phone, etc.) or not at all?
🧳 Akaashi will be over often. Like, I'm not even going to pretend like Bokuto will doubt his BFF. I really don't think Akaashi will be there to save you, unfortunately...
🧳 But Akaashi doesn't get to touch you. Sorry. You belong to Bokuto and, any attention you give Akaashi, you better give 10 times that to Bokuto.
W is for Weakness: What weakness can their darling exploit in order to escape?
❌ You're lucky enough if you can detangle yourself from Bokuto's grip for more than 5 minutes, but, if you do, you can use very few things against him anyways. He's nothing but determined.
❌ If you're delicate and careful about it, you may be able to take advantage of his emotions. Fake sadness to gain his pity or get him so happy that he'll be less likely to deny your requests.
X is for Xoanon: How much would they revere or worship their darling? To what length would they go to win their darling over?
🛐 He's a bit of a worshipper, but not the classic type. He ADORES you and thinks you're absolutely perfect but... he doesn't exactly put your needs above his own. Like I said, he's a bit selfish.
Y is for Yearning: How long do they pine after their darling before they snap? 😍 It depends on how receptive you are to him. If you're trying to distance yourself from him and keep your freedom (or you just aren't interested in him that way), he's going to snap FAST. You'll find yourself in his house before you can say "HEY HEY HEY". 😍 Otherwise, if you start dating him, it'll depend on if you realize the toxicity of your relationship. If you try to break up with him or loosen his suffocating grip, you're in the same boat as if you denied him in the first place. Z is for Zero Tolerance: What is the thing that always makes them snap? What things will they not allow their darling to do under any circumstances? 0️⃣ Leave him. If you deny his affection and love, he will not be happy at ALL. He wants to wrap you up in his arms and never let go. And he really doesn't care if you don't want that. 🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣 THAT TOOK SO LONG I'M SO SORRY- I feel like I portrayed him to be a little worse than he is- he really does love you!
Bokuto tried to ignore the clench of his heart once he took in your state. He tried to ignore the urges to pull you into his arms and protect you from whatever was causing you distress.
He shouldn’t be feeling this way. He shouldn’t be blushing anytime your hand accidentally brushed against his. There shouldn’t be butterflies fluttering in his stomach anytime you flashed your oh-so-beautiful smile at him. He shouldn’t be going out of his way to say silly things just to hear the beautiful melody of your laugh.
He can’t have feelings for you. You aren’t his soulmate, that much was made clear on the morning of your eighteenth birthday.
Bokuto didn’t understand why he felt so disappointed hearing you say you didn’t have a soulmate mark. He couldn’t explain why even though he felt sad, all he wanted to do was make you smile again.
His feelings were unexplainable, he couldn’t have feelings for his best friend.
What was even more unexplainable, however, is why he accepted Machi’s confession. Don’t get him wrong, Machi was beautiful. There wasn’t anything bad about her; she was sweet, smart, and attractive. That’s why Bokuto said yes, it had to be. No one in their right mind would turn down Machi. Of course, that’s why Bokuto agreed to take her on a date. He should be happy.
So why did it feel like his world was crumbling when he told you about Machi? Why did he feel like the scum of the earth watching you take in the information. He felt pathetic. He couldn’t even look you in the eyes. Watching you turn around in a flurry, mumbling about forgetting something in your classroom, he wanted nothing more than to run after you, tell you it was a mistake.
The spiker pulled on his hair in frustration. Despite knowing these things, he still didn’t understand why? He has no right to feel this way.
Chalking it up to guilt from not consulting with his best friend before accepting a confession, he pushed away his feelings, claiming it was just platonic guilt.
His confusion only grew when he realized you were avoiding him. He tried to convince himself otherwise. The spiker just assumed you were respecting the boundaries between the two of you because of Machi, letting her wait for him after practices instead of you, giving him time to catch up with Machi before classes instead of talking to you.
You didn’t miss his longing gazes that burned through your shoulders as you brushed past him in the hallways. refusing to acknowledge him. It felt wrong ignoring Bokuto, a weird feeling settling in your chest after acting as if he never existed. But it was necessary. Your couldn’t put yourself through the pain of acting like everything was normal around Bokuto, knowing he was your soulmate, yet giving all of his firsts to her.
Laying in bed, you often find yourself wondering if Bokuto already had his first kiss, first date, first time. Unbeknownst to you, your soulmate was laying in his own bed across the street, wondering if your hair always looked so pretty in the sun.
That’s why the next time you two are alone, the tension between the two of you became unbearable. “So what do you think about Machi?” Bokuto asked, trying to clear the air of any awkwardness.
“I don’t know her that well, but she seems nice,” you tried to reply, not letting your voice betray your emotions.
Bokuto looked down. Nice, huh?
“Why did you do it?” you suddenly asked, eyes boring into the side of the spiker’s head.
“I don’t know,” Bokuto mumbled honestly. Clearing his throat, he looked up, meeting your eyes, trying to decipher the emotions running through them. “I guess I wanted to date someone. Waiting around for my soulmate seemed boring,” he lied, eyes searching a little too hard to see your reaction, still seeming to miss the flash of hurt in your eyes.
“What are you going to do when you find your soulmate?” you prodded, curiosity taking over, knowing you would be hurt by his response.
“I guess we’ll have to see,” Bokuto started, sending a knife straight into your heart, “I know our soulmates are meant to be our perfect match, but what if things between Machi and I turn out to be really good, y’know?” You wanted nothing more to escape and return home, shutting yourself away from the outside world.
Hearing there was no guarantee that Bokuto would chose you, even after finding out about being soulmates, caused something inside you to shatter. You quickly stood up from where you were sitting, walking off before the spiker could see the tears well up in your eyes.
“Y/n, where are you going?” Bokuto’s eyes shone with concern as he started walking after you.
“It’s nothing, I just remembered something important I have to do,” you lied, trying to level your shaky voice.
You hoped your lie would work, but you knew you couldn’t fool Bokuto. That’s why it hurt even more when he didn’t come after you, demanding you tell him what was wrong so he could cheer you up. He used to do it all the time, so why stop now? Was it because of Machi? It would make sense for him as a boyfriend to respect some boundaries.
After all, to him, you were just his childhood friend.
༻﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡༺
The next time you ran into Bokuto was at the library. You were there to finish up a paper, feeling stuffy in your own bedroom after being holed up attempting to avoid Bokuto. It was just your luck that the moment you went out in public, you would run into him. He hadn’t noticed you. How could you when he was sleeping soundly, mouth slightly agape as drool pooled onto the book under his head. You could help but slightly giggle at his appearance. His left splayed on the table, palm facing upwards as his right arm acted as a cushion for his head. His soulmate mark on his left wrist stood out proudly against his milky skin.
Before you knew it, you were walking towards where he was seated. An insatiable urged filled you to match your soulmate mark to his. Perhaps you just wanted confirmation that what Akaashi said was true, perhaps you just needed reassurance that the wing spiker was actually your soulmate, wanted the justification that he was deemed to be your perfect match.
Quietly pulling out the chair next to him, you set your belongings on the table before turning to face Bokuto. Your breathing fell in time with his as you tentatively reached out with your right hand, soulmate mark tingling. Nervously, you stared as you watched your fingers lightly brushed against his palm before slotting them between his calloused fingers. It wasn’t like you never held his hand before, but somehow, it felt different this time, more intimate. You hesitated before slowly pushing your wrist to align with his. Holding your breath, you watched as the thick lines on your wrist perfectly filled the gaps between Bokuto’s lines, filling them in to create a perfect square. The blood in your body rushed to your head as your heart pounded furiously against your chest, soulmate mark burning at this point. Tears unknowingly rolled down your cheeks.
He’s mine. Bokuto is my soulmate.
You couldn’t help but let out happy chuckle. Your happiness was quickly replaced with panic as you felt Bokuto’s hand tighten around yours. Eyes quickly darting to Bokuto’s face, you breathed out a sigh of relief as you took in his sleeping figure, knowing he was still unconscious. However, no measure of preparedness could have braced you from the heartbreak you were about to endure.
The happiness you built up knowing Bokuto truly was your soulmate was soon shattered as soon as the spiker breathed out one word in his sleep.
“Machi.”
That day you realized it didn’t matter if Bokuto was your soulmate, if he was your one true other half. He would never be yours.
Hi! This is another submission for the 400 follower event! :)
My name is Mia and I'd like to be paired with a boy. I pick cards Heart, Diamond, and Joker. My personality type is ENFJ-t and the engram? enanagram??? (the number one 💀) is 2. Although, please don't let those fool you, I promise I don't have a stick lodged up my rear.
When I get downtime I love creative and intellectual type hobbies, such as creative writing and reading (both fiction and non fiction.) I also play the viola. Unfortunately, due to health problems I can't participate in many sports (I like to watch though!!!!) with the expection of swimming.
I tend to be a pretty perceptive person, both internally and externally, which keeps me out of a lot of trouble/away from people with "bad vibes." I'm pretty outgoing for the most part, but when I get to know someone and really trust them, I calm down a bit because I don't feel like I constantly have to be entertaining and charming to keep them around. Maybe I qualify as "chaotic"? But that's probably just my adhd speaking.
"Transfer" is the word I choose for the prompt.
TIP: I have to say, I absolutely adore your work. I've seen it on and off, but what really got me hooked was your recent thriller interactive series. It's incredibly well written, and that extra interaction with the audience? It's incredibly wonderful to see that level of communication with an author and reader. I know it can be tiring though, so don't hesitate to take breaks if you need them! It's better to create work that you can take pride in, and actually enjoy making, then try to meet some self-imposed deadline. Take care babes <3
a/n: wow, you are the next in line huh? MIAAA aahhh you are so sweet please and not you bringing back my interactive horror au 😭 is this a sign? 😭 i forgot about it since it was hard to interact with the readers but the plot is still in my head gsmshsjs anyways i hope you enjoy this! transfer is an unexpected word but thank god it's kinda flexible gsnshs do u get what i mean gsns bye
The first time you saw him was in a restaurant, and instantly you were attracted. His lean and fit built and his orbs illuminate the hazy sky were images you could not get your mind off. The second time you met him was at the bus stop. You were currently on a transfer between two buses when suddenly the rain drenched you as you exited the vehicle. His kindness took him to you and immediately covered you with his umbrella even though you were strangers. The third time was when you went out with friends to travel to Tokyo. And there, in the middle of a crowded city, you see him with his friends clutching on a duffle bag and clad in a volleyball jersey. To your surprise, he remembers you. Soon, you felt uncomfortable with your surroundings. One of the disadvantages of transferring to a new school in the middle of the school year is that everyone has their own circle of friends. Hence, it will be harder for you to squeeze yourself into a group that shared a past without you. GIST: During a school trip, you found a mystical object lying in one corner of the museum. The hexagon-shaped item covered in thick dust is broken into half. Being the curious cat you are, you laid your hands on it, lifting it up to your face as your eyes devoured the seemingly compelling piece of art until a sudden blast of lights blinds your vision. Your head begins spinning, and you are unable to move your muscle. Then, the phenomenon stops. Opening your eyelids, you see a different environment before you. You are transferred in the middle of an unknown forest with wild trees and plants covered in glittered dust and stars. You step back, mesmerized by the image before your eyes, until your back hits a warm body, making you jolt in surprise. But what catches you off guard is the person's identity standing in front of you. "YOU?!" you both say in unison. You can not be stuck in a place with Semi Eita, your nemesis. Your eyes capture the same the other half of the object you're holding in his grasp. Right then, you knew what could have happened.
Hnghh can I get a yandere Akaashi scenario where his quiet (fem) s/o manages to escape and goes to Bokuto for help, but it turned out that Bokuto knows of Akaashi’s yandere tendencies and sent s/o back to his home? (Bokuto does so not because he was threatened, but he did so out of his ‘good will’ “man y/n why’d you run away from akaashi? he loves you so much, y’know that?”)
It’s a given that they’re soulmates, whether it’s romantic or platonic. I can only imagine that Bokuto would be as dedicated to Akaashi’s Darling as Akaashi is, if not more so…
TW: Themes of Domestic Abuse, Victim Blaming, and Dehumanization.
~
You’d almost forgotten what it felt like to be comfortable in your own skin.
Bokuto’s hotel room was lavish, but cozy, one of the top-floor suites in a name-brand chain you couldn’t afford to spend the night in, let alone the better half of a month. Still, it was homey, with neutral colors and nooks to tuck yourself away in and a faux-fireplace crackling in the distance, the noise almost drowned out by the rain drumming against the row of thin, floor-to-ceiling windows that lined the far wall. There might’ve been a balcony, but you couldn’t care less about checking, right now, settling against the arm of a plush sofa and pulling a fleece blanket over your legs, hardly noticing when Bokuto stepped out of the kitchenette with two mugs already in-hand.
“Coffee,” He explained, smiling as you took one of the offered cups. You took a sip, the bitterness barely detectable. Instead, it was warm and sweet and perfect, more milk than it was anything else. “Just the way you like it, with too much sugar to fit in one brew.”
You almost laughed. It’d been years since he’d gotten coffee with you, let alone made it with your preferences in mind. Tasting something that wasn’t Akaashi’s energy drinks or murky, black sludge felt like a privilege, albeit a small one. “I really can’t thank you enough,” You mumbled, the words slipping off your tongue before you could stifle them. “When I heard you had a game in town, it felt like a miracle. I couldn’t think of anyone else who’d help, especially with…” With everything, honestly. Akaashi was the one you were running from, the monster who’d taken advantage of your naivety, but you’d started isolating yourself long before he stopped giving you the choice not to. You took another sip, rather than going on, savoring the way it burnt your tongue. “I really mean it, thank you. Do you mind if I use your phone? I should be able to find a place to stay with--”
“Oh, you don’t have to worry about that.” He spoke casually, settling into the opposite side of the couch. “Akaashi should be on his way, by now.”
The coffee went sour in an instant. It was all you could do not to drop the mug entirely, your hands starting to shake as you placed it gingerly on the hard-wood floor. “He’s… What do you mean, Kota’?”
“I called him!” His smile was broader, suddenly, Bokuto beaming as he looked towards you. He was content, proud, his eyes closed and his features expectant, as if he was preparing to be rewarded. “You must’ve been too shy to ask, at first, but you didn’t have to! I knew what I had to do as soon as you turned up in the lobby.” He paused, laughing softly, nearly under his breath. You could swear you felt your heart shatter in your chest. “I mean, you were crying, (Y/n). I know how much you hate being away from Akaashi, but… damn. Your boyfriend wasn’t much better, if it helps. When I told him you must’ve gotten lost, he sounded like he was ready to choke someone!”
You were too stunned to reply, for a moment, your voice dying in your throat. He was so satisfied, so pleased with himself, but it was all you could do to try to process his admission. It was true, technically. You’d been crying since you left your apartment, sobbing by the time the girl at the front desk finally agreed to call his room, and even now, you were trembling. But, you’d told him why you were in tears, too. It was near-incoherent, but you’d vented about the abuse, the screaming, the violence, everything that you’d gone through. Another glance towards Bokuto made you wonder if he’d been paying attention at all, though. “I don’t want to go back to Akaashi,” You tried, your rebuttal lacking the force you’d been aiming for. “That’s why I came to you. I’m trying to get away from him.”
He nodded with faux-sympathy, something empathetic and patronizing ghosting over his expression. “You two had a fight, yeah? Every couple does, now and then.” He shrugged, and your bit your lip. He’d heard you, apparently, but it was obvious he hadn’t been listening. Or, he’d been willing himself not to, at least. “Akaashi is quiet, sometimes, and I get it. It’s hard to know what he’s thinking, but his heart’s in the right place. He loves you.”
“He doesn’t act like it.” You hated how childish you sounded, how cliché your arguments were. You hated the fact that you had to argue at all, when it came to this. “He won’t let me get a job, Kotaro. He broke my last phone because he thought I might be talking to someone else, and he hit me when I tried to tell him I wasn’t. Being with him is suffocating, I can’t breath when he’s--”
“He loves you,” Bokuto repeated, flatly. As if he was talking about the weather, or the outcome of his latest match. A fact, one as true to him as any other. “He doesn’t say it very often, but he does. He talks about you all the time, he adores you.” The affirmation was tinted with something dark, something jealous. Envy, but just a hint. You couldn’t be sure whether or not you’d imagined it, once Bokuto made more of an effort to hire it. “If I was in your position, I’d be grateful. We both know Akaashi could do so much better than some nervous, emotional brat who runs away whenever he tries to be sweet.”
You opened your mouth, averting your eyes as his resentment became undeniable, but a knock at the door silenced you, as steady as it was fatal. You went rigid, reflexively, balling your fists around the blanket on your lap, but Bokuto didn’t share your hesitation. Grinning, he pushed himself up, grabbing your hand and dragging you onto your feet, leaving you standing awkwardly in the center of his suite as he welcomed in the only thing you wanted to keep out.
You froze as soon as you saw Akaashi. He seemed relaxed, but he didn’t smile as he greeted Bokuto, only running a hand through his drenched hair and spitting out something polite. To anyone else, he might seem distracted, but you’d been with him long enough to know how angry he must’ve been, how much of his energy was dedicated to hiding it. You attempted to exhale, to release some of the tension in your body while you were still able to, but the air hitched in your throat as his focus flickered towards you.
He didn’t waste any time. You didn’t receive the same decencies as Bokuto, his arms around your waist and your head pushed into his chest in the blink of an eye, nimble fingers entangling themselves in your hair like it was second-nature. Like he was afraid you’d get away again, if he didn’t hold you as tightly as he could. Like you’d remember you could live without his nails embedded in your scalp.
“Thank you,” He said, firmly, but it wasn’t directed towards you. Bokuto laughed, telling him gratitude wasn’t necessary, but Akaarshi stood his ground regardless. The interaction was friendly, warm, but you couldn’t bring yourself to feel anything but pure, unfaltering cold. “I mean it. I just... I get so worried whenever (Y/n) goes out alone. It gets dangerous, this late.”
You didn’t bother pointing out his hypocrisy, or attempting to free yourself. It was clear neither had an issue with dragging you back to wherever you were wanted.
Still, you couldn’t help but hope Bokuto would notice how quickly you’d started crying, again.
Me again! For Soft Sunday, which haikyuu boys would be up for platonic relationships/ soulmates kinda thing? Don't know if this makes sense but yeah.
i’m not sure what you meant AHAHAH BUT!!!!!! the boys that believe in soulmates (top two from each school!) are definitely:
hinata: all the childhood stories he reads to natsu all have some sort of happy ever after in them, so he believes that in his life, he’ll meet someone that he’ll have a happy ever after with 🥺
sugawara: he has so much love to give everybody, and he also believes sosososo much in love. he definitely thinks that there’s someone out there for him.
kuroo: maybe it’s the fact that his grandparents are so sweet to each other, but he always secretly dreams about his life in the future with his s/o, and he strongly believes that if you’re the one, you’re the one.
yaku: he’s just a sappy guy that loves to watch rom-coms, so much so that he thinks that maybe, just maybe, he’ll have his own movie with someone 🥺✨
akaashi: he’s an avid reader, and he reads all sorts of genres, but his favourites are mystery and romance. and bc of the stories he reads, it’s obvious that he’ll have some daydreams about the story that he’ll create with the one he meets!!!
bokuto: just like yaku, he watches a lot of rom-coms. because of that, he gets a little SUPER excited about meeting someone just like in the movies, and spending the rest of his life with that person just like in the movies :)!!!
iwaizumi: he’s secretly such a sucker for romance, even though he’ll never admit it. he doesn’t show it, but seeing happy couples on the street make him kinda happy on the inside, and he can’t wait for the day that he’ll meet someone that’ll accept all his flaws and love him.
matsukawa: he acts like he’s pretty chill, but he can’t wait to find someone that’ll make his heart stop just by smiling at him, and honestly??? he can’t wait for the day fate decides to put the one in his life :”)
osamu: he acts pretty chill like matsukawa, but honestly he can’t help but think about a future with someone where he’ll make onigiri for them and they’ll press a kiss onto his cheek with a smile. he really thinks that there’ll be someone that he’ll meet that he genuinely clicks with, and he’s very excited for that to happen.
kita: maybe...just like kuroo...he sees how his grandparents are so sweet to each other, and the way they act makes him believe in love. he can’t help but think about meeting the one, someone he’ll treat right just like how his grandpa treated his grandma <3!!!!!
semi: i mean...LOOK AT HIM??? he definitely daydreams about the day he meets THE ONE, and he also daydreams about him playing little songs for them on the guitar and them singing along :””)
shirabu: secretly a mushy guy, though he’ll never admit it. he secretly thinks about the life he’ll have in the future after he meets the one...and he’ll always have a little smile on his face when he thinks about that.
honestly i can’t see any ship from haikyuu 😀 like kagehina, bokuaka, iwaoi, tsukkiyama, suga/daichi, kuroken, etc etc, literally none of them JDBFNMA. i used to be a huge shipper, esp when i first saw the anime years ago but even then it never occurred to me to ship any of them together. my logic is that “”they’re just friends”” meanwhile im such a whore for friends to lovers.. make it make sense, me -🐰
JHGJS FR ??? i only ship iwaoi and sakuatsu and MAYBE kagehina but sakuatsu was only after i read this fic on ao3 like at first i didn’t ship it not even a little bit, but then idk the fic unlocked something in my brain and now i love them. iwaoi it doesn’t have to particularly be romantic for me. i just think they’re soulmates in general, whether that be platonically or romantically. i just love them so much it’s dkjsdhskjds
but i agree that a lot of them i don’t see as more than friends. kuroken and suga/daichi esp. tsukkiyama and kagehina is a maybe but ,,, idk
honestly the one ship i really just. don’t vibe with. is bokuaka. LIKE PLS THE SHIPPERS MILK IT SO MUCH AND FROM NOTHING SHKSJ i really don’t mind people shipping whoever they’d like but like i saw this post once where it was the scene where bokuto was like “akaashi, you promised not to tell anyone!” about akaashi outing him for failing math or something and the caption was like “aw they make promises to each other” and they were SERIOUS. LIKE HUH. WHA. WHAT DOES THAThskjds
anyways same i fkn love friends to lovers like the pining? sign me UP
i’m sorry i said so much omfg im so annoying 😐
Hey this is for your matchups which again yayyy congrats on nearly 200!! Anyways for my matchup:
1-3) My nickname is Em, she/her and idm who you pair me with
4) I'd describe myself as shy at first then once you get to know me I'll open up, an overthinker and I like to be organized
My hobbies are writing, I really love it alot, I also like to draw if I get time and I love music alot too
In a partner I'd look for someone who makes me laugh and who's patient
For dealbreakers it's pretty general but I couldn't be with someone who doesn't consider other ppl's feelings
5) I don't have an aesthetic but I like pastel aesthetics but then I also like dark aesthetics and light academia so it's a mix I guess
6) Colours to describe me would be teal blue and silver, well according to you anyways
7) Right now I'd say my favourite song is  Tru Luv Street by Awfultune or Fight Night Champion by Cyberbully Mom Club
8) Idk about a specific genre but some artists I like rn are: Awfultune, Carpetgarden, Cavetown, Clem Turner, Cyberbully Mom Club, Girl in Red, Joji, Lorde, Matt Maltese and Twenty One Pilots (sorry that's alot)
9) Ooh and I wanted to include that my favourite book is Radio Silence by Alice Oseman
Thank you in advance and also ily, you deserve all the love and more!! <3
EM MY BELOVED I HAVE DONE IT
@sugasfanfics this was so fun wtf like-- ugh i love this
ANYWAY i know i already kinda spilled the beans but im gonna match you with....
and no it's not just because you're already in love w him i have good reasoning behind this because i said so anyWAY
✧𝐻𝑜𝑤 𝑌𝑜𝑢 𝑀𝑒𝑡✧
how you met, for in case you cant see my fancy text
Cafe
C a f e
But like
A cafe specifically for nerds
This is just my like 2nd dream job okay but like hear me out
They have coffee & tea & a bookshelf full of old books and a chalkboard
You can write all over the chalkboard
You write super tiny and just let a little mini vent out in the corner because you’re stressed out and need to get everything off your chest
BUT you come back the next day and there’s a little note in the same little corner
Your message is gone
But instead is a little note from someone
“If you ever need to talk to someone, let me know”
And an Instagram username
So you give it a shot and you’re like why not talk to this random person Y’know maybe make a new friend if anything just thank them for the offer
You message him and start talking (and low key stalk his page just to see what he’s like, or maybe that’s just me being a snoop) and he’s actually really cool! So you guys meet up and get coffee and actually start talking all the time it’s really sweet
✧𝐺𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑙 𝐻𝑒𝑎𝑑𝑐𝑎𝑛𝑜𝑛𝑠✧
general headcanons
When i think of akaashi, I think of stars
When i think of you, i think of picnics and for some reason, water
Like the ocean
SO EVEN IF ITS NOT THE OCEAN
Your ‘spot’ is by this lake where he took you on a date one time
Maybe for an anniversary or something
But you guys did a little picnic dinner thing and were out when the sun went down so sat and stared at the stars
You buried a rock there and both of you like to stand on that spot where the rock is when youre there with the other
Or send the other a picture like “hiii baby look what i found” w your shoe in the picture
Bokuto is your #1 shipper high key
Like he thinks you two are so cute
He loves you so much too like
He and akaashi are kinda a package deal so like if ur dating akaashi ur dating bokuto just with less kissing (bokuto likes to kiss your cheek or forehead) (after making sure this was ok with akaashi of course) (ur his girlfriend of course)
But anyway just bokuto
He’s so sweet
And so clueless
You two will be walking together and then he’ll just walk up behind you and sling his arms over your shoulders
If youre holding hands w akaashi? He’ll put his hand over both of yours
God now i wanna write a fic but anyway
Bo is just the sweetest and is akaashi’s #1 hype man when he’s worried about a date
He’s ur #2 bc im ur #1 sorry to tell u
Bo totally tried to coin the platonic soulmates thing i love you kou but gtfo my em
Im arguing with fictional characters
ANYWAY
When akaashi is stressed he likes to wrap his arms around you and lay his head against your neck
He’ll never admit it out loud because he thinks its weird but he thinks you smell nice
When he’s starting to overthink too much + spiral he just will grab you and hug you until all the bad thoughts go away
When he thinks to of course
When he doesn’t, there are times you gotta find him and calm him down
Which he loves so much
Sit him down on the floor so he feels more grounded and hold his hand (or hook pinkies that's so cute i jhbflebf) (not the time spencer gtfo)
That way ur not crowding him but you’re still there y'know
And sometimes he’ll talk, sometimes you need to talk him down, sometimes you just sit in silence
Eventually he will lean forward into you and hug you because he doesn't want to talk, but he wants you to know he’s okay
Rub his back, kiss his head, you’ll both be okay
He’s really good with you too
When you’re stressed out he might push a couple buttons but he means well
He just wants to know who made his star upset (he calls you his star or darling convince me otherwise)
So he pushes buttons until you finally talk about it because obviously it’s bothering you why wouldn't you talk about it?? He just wants to fix it??
Sometimes this gets more irritating, sometimes it helps, it depends on the day
But even if you do get into an argument, expect to hear from him before the end of the night apologizing because he feels so bad for arguing with you that he doesn’t even care what the argument was about he just wants to make sure you still love him
I think im getting off topic but tbh this part is always just me rambling lol
Another thing I think of when I think of akaashi is rain. I don't know why but i do
You have to at least know OF the notebook & the rain scene to get this
I don't know the book lol i just know this much and i'm a dork so we’re using it & some quotes just a heads up
But just imagine its pouring and you’re bored and text him like “i wish i could see you but its raining & we didn't really make plans & i don't want you to get caught in the rain anywhere”
This mfer
RUNS ALL THE WAY TO UR HOUSE
JUST SHOWS UP
OUT OF NO WHERE
And being the freakin
book nerd he is
He texts you and goes “I wrote you 365 letters.”
And then just “(come to the door and I’ll finish the quote)”
So you bolt to the front door
And there he is
Soaking wet & smiling like an idiot
“I wrote to you everyday for a year.”
To which you start laughing and barley are able to make out a “it wasn’t over’ (which is the beginning of the next quote) before kissing him
And this jerk pulls you out in the rain with him because WHAT is more romantic than kissing in the rain
Nothing
Anyway he ends up with a cold but you give him some of the clothes you probably stole from him to get into dry clothes and you cuddle under the covers with tea
After you smack him (playfully of course) because “you IDIOT keiji it's pouring out here!!” “I wanted to see you too so i ran over” “you're impossible”
Anyway yeah #emkaashiotp
✧𝐴 𝐷𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝐼𝑑𝑒𝑎✧
a date idea
Bookstore
I'm really good at naming places aren't i
Anyway
Bookstore date
But do something fun where the two of you have to go through an aisle and find a random page and read it in the like
How do i explain this
Make it sound suuuuper sexual without it actually being that way and not laugh
Whoever loses buys lunch
Lets just say you lose a lot dear im sorry (he insists on buying anyway, sometimes he wins that argument)
You’re smiley :) (guys her smile is so cute ebflbejfb em ILY)
Oh also doesn’t matter if he bought lunch or not he always gets you something
Whether it be that book you decided you couldn't get this time or a little trinket that reminded him of you, or sometimes it’s just ice cream
It’s all very sweet (hahaha pun)
He always walks you home and gives you a little kiss when he drops you off
Doesn’t leave till you’re inside & he knows you’re good
You make him promise to text you when he gets home
Which he does, without fail
Sagittariuses are very intelligent, fair-minded & honest, similar to a Libra’s cleverness & rationale. Because of this similarity, trust is a huge thing in these relationships. It can be all or nothing, but finding balance is important to keep both people happy. Luckily, Libras are very good at this. From everything I’ve seen, these signs together have a very high compatibility and can have a very long-withstanding and healthy relationship.
Bokuto stargazed outside of the balcony in his room. Hinata and Atsumu were talking in the living room, while Sakusa was cleaning the kitchen. They just finished their dinner for tonight. They had two weeks before their match with the Schweiden Adlers. They had to prepare well to win the match. Bokuto knew that he would be a busy bee for this week and the following week.
“What’s Akaashi doing right now?”
He took his phone, searching for Akaashi’s name. As he was busy for training, he will never forget to call Akaashi every night. He always told Akaashi his daily routine. Even though he went to the wrong stall in the toilet, he did not hesitate to tell Akaashi everything. He missed his junior so much, although he always came to his match.
“Akaashi, do you have a time?”
“Ah, Bokuto,” Akaashi sighed, “I have a lot of drafts to review tonight.”
Even Bokuto had daily training, Akaashi was busy with reviewing all chapters for each manga to be published in the Shonen manga magazine. Day and night, he checked everything, from errors to plots. Sometimes, he slept late due to the coming deadlines.
Bokuto pouted, “Can we go outside tonight? The night looks beautiful.”
Akashi looked at his room’s window, “But don’t you think it’s late? You might get cold and you have a match in two weeks.”
“I know… but, Akaashi- “
“Sorry, Bokuto, I don’t want you to get cold.” Akaashi declined the call.
Bokuto did not give up, instead he will ask Akaashi to go out. He ran into his room and grabbed his jacket. The smile on his face was a sign of he was excited to see his friend.
“Bokuto, where are you going?” Hinata saw him as he went to the door of their apartment.
He turned his head, “To see Akaashi.”
“I heard it will be snowy tonight,” Atsumu told him what was on the weather news. “Are you sure going outside is a good idea?”
Bokuto held his hand on his chest, “Don’t worry, I’ll be okay.” He put a smile on his face. He took out his shoes from the shoe rack and wore them up, “I’ll come back in an hour,” then he went out from the apartment.
  ─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Bokuto ran to across the street. The wind breezed the dark night. The breeze touched his skin and made him feel freshening. He wanted some spaces after a tiring practice. What was in his mind is Akaashi. He was thinking of their night activities together. He thought they should buy some hot chocolates. Or coffee? Or maybe midnight snacks? Most coffee shops will be closed before 11 p.m. so he should be quick.
When he reached Akaashi’s house, he rang the doorbell. He waited him for few minutes, but he did not respond the bell. He left him a text.
To: Akaashi
akaaaaaashi
akaaaashiii
open the door, akaaaashi
But, Akaashi did not reply him yet. Bokuto tried to knock the door again. No answer from him yet. He sat on the platform, finding his name on the phone and called him. The temperature was getting lower.
“Hello?”
“Akaashi, it’s me. Open the door,” Bokuto pouted, again.
Akaashi sighed, “Okay, hold up a second.”
Bokuto got up with excitement in his heart. Stretching his back, he felt happy as a lark because Akaashi will go out with him. He saw Akaashi opened the door. Akaashi was not in great state. Bokuto saw the eye bags on Akaashi’s eyes. His hair was messier than usual.
“Bokuto, I told you to not come,” Akaashi got out from his doorway, “What if you get sick?”
“Don’t worry, I’ll be fine,” Bokuto smiled.
Akaashi gave a relief sign, “Alright, let’s go.”
The happiness inside Bokuto grew more than before. As Akaashi wore his shoes, Bokuto grabbed his hand and he pulled him out from the house lot. Akaashi did not want to hang out with him, not for tonight. However, the desperate in Bokuto’s words made him changed his mind.
“I should have a break for a while.”
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
The city lights were brighter like the stars. Most people went home from work, while some of them had their overtime work. Youngsters went out for having fun, while most couples went out for a date. Even some parents brought their children out for late dinner. Tomorrow is Saturday so everyone wanted to entertain themselves with their beloved one.
“Akaashi, how’s your work?” Bokuto broke the silence after they did not talk since, they went out from the house.
“Well, many mangakas send their works for publishing into the magazine.” Akaashi stroked his soft hair. “It should be published by next week.”
Bokuto’s eyes went sparkled, “I wish there will be a story about me.”
Akaashi giggled, “I’ll look forward for that one for you.”
“Oh, Akaashi,” Bokuto turned his head to him, “Today’s practice, I stumbled on the floor.” He lifted his knee. “Look, I’m fine, like I’m immune to cold.”
Suddenly, he sneezed loudly, rubbed his nose and smiled. “See, I’m fine.”
“You’re not, Bokuto,” Akaashi grabbed the tissue from his pocket. “We should go back home.”
Akaashi pulled Bokuto to the bus stop, hoping there will be another bus will stop for them. The snow started falling from the sky. The dazzling snows were dancing as it fell on the trees, covering them like a blanket. The coldness made Bokuto rubbed his hand, made Akaashi kept blaming himself because he said yes to Bokuto.
Bokuto’s voice became gloomy, “But I don’t want to go now.”
Akaashi looked at him with concern, “But your match is next week.”
Surprisingly, Bokuto busted a gut, “I don’t care,” He slowly held Akaashi’s hand, put them closer to his face, “What important is, I’m with you.”
Suddenly, all of the work tensions were gone in Akaashi’s head. He felt like the world turned slowly, it was like they were in their own world. That was right. They are the protagonist of the world. Soulmates or not, platonic or not., they owned the world. No matter how work can separate them, they will always be together.
Akaashi crinkled his eyes, “You know, I’m happy you’re with me right now.”
He put his head on his friend’s shoulder and he did not realize he had fallen asleep. The face on Bokuto’s face shone bright like the star. The moon was zinc-silver, like the shimmering light in a dark place. Bright as a diamond, the moonlight glowed like it was a lullaby for Akaashi.
A bus stopped in front of them, but Akaashi could not wake up. Instead, Bokuto lift his body up and brought him into the bus. He put him on an empty seat, leaving the bus stop. The bus headed where Bokuto and his teammates lived. He will put Akaashi on his bed after they go home. Even they could not do what he planned to do, but spending time with his friend is the most precious time in a Friday night.
your romantic soulmate is: akaashi keiji and your platonic soulmate is: ushijima wakatoshi
+ this song always gives me such ‘last days of summer’ vibes
There’s a slight dip between his pecs and the start of his lined stomach where water pools. Catching glitter from the neon lights. You watch him for a little longer, enjoying the way his chest rises and falls under your fingertips. Then you roll yourself off of him and back onto the chilly grass, shuffling until you’re comfortable. “No, come back,” he mumbles, and you look to the side with a smile. He’s still laying with his legs in the pool, resting on the colder ground for something to ground him. Sometimes it’s you, but as you’re just about as far gone, the grass will do.
His eyes flutter like he can sense your gaze on him, and he rolls onto his side to pull you into his chest with a soft chuckle. “I said come back to me.” Akaashi presses a kiss to your forehead, before resting his chin on yours and wrapping his strong arm around your back. “Are you cold?”
“No. Let’s get back in,” you smile against his collarbones when he nods, laying a gentle kiss there. “But we’re all grassy now.”
“Bo won’t mind. He poured a whole can of jellybeans in here earlier.” He props himself onto his arm to look over your shoulder then. “Speaking of, where is Bokuto?”
hq boys’ reactions to you calling them your soulmate
~•~•~•~•~•~
Tumblr media
kageyama tobio
backstory/context: kageyama has found you interesting (and a bit annoying) ever since you guys met (and fought over the last yogurt milk). although your first impressions weren’t the best (he hasn’t forgiven you) you both somehow end up getting close. you guys hang out a lot and you often come to his practices and games.
during one of your visits, nishinoya and tanaka approach you and ask why you hang out with kageyama (“he’s isn’t exactly a gentleman, y/n”) and kageyama is listening in on your conversation. after laughing at their comments, you respond with “um.. it’s because i believe that meeting him at that vending machine was… fate? i guess you could say he’s my soulmate.” and gave a shy chuckle afterwards.
kageyama goes home that day and looks up what a soulmate it and just goes full on panic mode because he isn’t sure if you meant it platonically or romantically.
bonus: his teammates love teasing him whenever you show up to their practices/games.
Tumblr media
hinata shouyou
backstory/context: he’s currently your classmate and seems to be very attached to you. he often invites you to his games and ever since your first visit, you’ve never missed a single one of his games/practice matches.
after one of their practice games, the team invites you to get meat buns with them. while you sit on the bench and wait for hinata to finish eating, sugawara (who’s sitting next to you) asks what you think of hinata. you respond with, “i think he’s.. awesome. ever since i first saw him play, i felt like it was fate. like i was meant to watch him play. i guess you can say i think he’s my soulmate.” while you get all flustered and sugawara laughs at you, you don’t notice hinata stare at you with sparkling eyes and muttering “soulmate” to himself.
bonus: “oi, hinata boke why are you muttering to yourself like a creep.” “kageyama i think i found my soulmate.” “what’s that?” “i don’t know but i think it’s something cool!!”
Tumblr media
bokuto koutarou
background/context: you and bokuto have been friends since day one. after bokuto signed up for the fukurōdani volleyball club, you decide to sign up as their manager. you guys are rarely apart and everyone is patiently (not really) waiting for you two to get together.
at one of the training camps, you are (as usual) watching bokuto practice along with akaashi, kuroo, and tsukishima. and during one of their breaks kuroo decides to make conversation with you. after a few minutes of small talk, he suddenly asks what bokuto is to you. from the other side of the gym, bokuto hears kuroo mention his name and secretly (not really) listens in on your conversation. you’re a bit taken aback by kuroo’s question but decide to answer it anyways. “he’s been my best friend since the... dawn of time and i think we were destined to be together. he’s my soulmate.” although you were being sarcastically dramatic about it, bokuto couldn’t help but get excited.
bonus: bokuto runs up to you and gives you a big ol’ bear hug. “DID YOU HEAR, AKAASHI?! I Y/N’s SOULMATE!!” “bokuto-san, i don’t think you should be hugging y/n right now…”
Tumblr media
akaashi keiji
background/context: you recently moved into a house that happened to be relatively close to akaashi’s house. after a few weeks of observing you, akaashi decides to approach you and ask if you would like to walk together. and of course, you said yes. after spending some time with you, akaashi found you quite interesting and fun to be around.
as usual, you were walking with the fukurōdani team after practice. beside you was konoha and sarukui. you watched as they began playing a new game they had made up. konoha noticed you listening in and asked if you would like to join. you agreed thinking to yourself, “what’s the worst that could happen?”.
the game was simple, each round a player would point to one of the people walking along with them and the other players would say the first thing that came to their minds.
after a few (embarrassing) rounds it was konoha’s turn to choose. and like the evil little shit he was, he decided on akaashi who was currently listening to bokuto ramble on about today’s practice. both konoha and sarukui turned to you with curious (and mischievous) looks. you thought for a second before blurting out, “soulmate”. the duo stared at you in shock as you quickly check to see if akaashi had heard what you said. luckily, it looked like he was too busy with bokuto to even notice you playing the game.
akaashi had heard everything you said but decided that pretending he didn’t hear anything was the best option. after everyone went their separate ways, he could hardly hide the blush that formed as you walked side by side. luckily for him, you were to preoccupied in your thoughts to notice. the walk was filled with awkward silence as you both rushed home. he tried very hard to keep a straight face. even to the point where he almost forgot to say goodbye to you. once he got home he ran straight into his room and began to freak out as he replayed your words within his head.
bonus: konoha and sarukui would not leave you alone after hearing you call akaashi your soulmate.
~•~•~•~•~•~
how y’all been? i’ve been gone for quite sometime and decided i want to come back LOLOLOL. anyways, i hope you guys enjoyed :)) i kinda wanna write an angsty version of this (hehehe..) let me know your thoughts !! until next time <3
my name is... (what happened?) | a. keiji
masterlist
part 4: what happened? | my name is...: akaashi keiji x f! reader
Keiji opened his eyes. He was face-down on his bed, head stuffed into the fluff of his pillow. He remembers wearing a girl’s sweatpants and sweatshirt to sleep, yet he woke up wearing his gym clothes that he would wear for yesterday’s practice. But he did not remember yesterday. All that he can recall is… a face. A girl’s beautiful face paired with the shocked expression of looking into the mirror and seeing that he had woken up in a girl’s body yesterday. He had woken up in a girl’s body yesterday…
The thought flustered him. In his cold room he felt warm all over, knowing that he had to unwillingly change his clothes in her body. He tried not to stare… or touch.
Oh, that girl. That girl. Keiji realized at that point he did not remember the girl’s name. He remembers knowing it, hearing it, yet he could scour the unknown depths of his memory only to find no recollection of the girl’s name.
He then sat upright to look at his phone, to view the conversation he initiated, for that was one of the few things he remembers about yesterday. On his phone, he had received the messages he sent. So many things he had asked were redacted.
So he decides to ask again.
XXX: My name is Akaashi Keiji.
He sent the message.
She was sitting in bed when she received the message. Her phone buzzed, which she then opened. To her disappointment, she read a terribly confusing message from the number that she texted as yesterday.
XXX: My name is [REDACTED].
(Y/N) wanted to throw her phone out the window.
Later, (Y/N) arrived at school late as usual. She quietly sat down, with some eyes following her presence, because she was acting much differently than how she was yesterday. A pair of brown eyes, in particular, wanted to know just what exactly was up with her.
Yuu wasn’t one to dwell on things for very long, but to friends in whom he holds immense trust, he will passionately observe even the slightest wrong of behavior on their part. It was not like he had some romantic feelings for (Y/N); oh no, it was not like that at all. These two kids were bound to each other like platonic soulmates; they loved each other like brother and sister. They had been friends since their first year at Karasuno High School, but matched each other like two pieces in a puzzle. (Y/N) attended all of his games, waited for him after practice, and Yuu always stayed with her for the long hours of the day when she had to make up work or could not go home right away.
So yes, they knew each other pretty well.
Class started and ended as per usual, and during lunch Yuu approached (Y/N).
“Yo! (Y/N)! How’ve you been?”
“Hey, Yuu! I’ve been alright,” she responded, hungrily opening up her lunch.
“How did you feel yesterday?” Yuu bluntly asked.
Just as she was about to take her first bite of her food, (Y/N) looked up at the standing boy with a blank expression on her face.
“Hazy, if that makes sense.”
Yuu crossed his arms and hummed. He slowly nodded, trying to connect what information he had together. (Y/N) began eating. This food she prepared was damn near good. She thanked her last night self. Oh. Right.
Yuu then proceeded to say, “Okay, then. Well, I’m glad you came by yesterday to practice receiving! All the guys practicin’ their serves yesterday wanted someone to receive ‘em. So thank you!”
(Y/N) was terribly confused, but she did not want Yuu to know this. She hid her confusion with a smile of a mask as she nodded in reply. She had an abstract thought pounding in the back of her head, but she cannot materialize this thought into a coherent string of ideas. She would like to know what is the name of the handsome boy whose body she had somehow possessed yesterday… she would like to meet him… she wants to know. She wants to know him.
“Say, Yuu, what happened yesterday?”
Keiji ate his lunch in his classroom in silence. Bokuto-san came by looking for the boy, looking for more praise.
“Hey, hey, hey! Akaashi! Tell me I’m great again! Tell me my spikes yesterday were so good, that they were so bam! Wha-bam! Boom!”
Keiji looked down at his food as he continued chewing. Just what did that girl say?
“Akaashi…” Bokuto dragged his vowels, whining for attention.
The ace grabbed the setter’s shoulders, asking for the wonderful praise he received yesterday.
“Akaashi, you were so different yesterday! It’s almost like you two switched bodies!”
It’s almost like they switched bodies. Perhaps they did.
And so Keiji shooed Bokuto out of his classroom. Once the gray-haired ace unwillingly did so, the setter took out his phone and sent a text, hoping that his message would be replied to, instead of being left on read for the past couple of messages, much to his embarrassment.
XXX: Do you think we switched bodies?
(Y/N) felt her phone buzz again. Yuu looked on. She opened up the unread message, to reveal the unknown number who texted her earlier that day. He had sent her a question to which she just had to say no, but she couldn’t, because their situation was completely true. She sent a quick, short reply.
???: Yes.
The girl would come home later today, accompanied by Yuu, to her clean and organized room and went straight to bed. No homework, shower, or anything. She’ll do all of that tomorrow morning.
She just wanted to wake up from the strange dream she was currently living in.
And she wanted to know what happened yesterday.
Your body lurched forward as a heavy force swung across your upper back; a loud, boisterous force. A familiar “hey, y/n!” rang in your ears as a smile spread across your face.
“Hey, Bo,” you laugh out. Seeing you walk down the hallways with Bokuto’s arm slung around your shoulders was a common sight for your classmates. The two of you were practically forced to become best friends. You grew up across the street from each other, so naturally the two of you constantly crossed paths, whether it was at the neighborhood playground or on the way to school. Soon enough, fond memories of your childhood began filling with Bokuto at your side.
“So, may I interest you in some Yakult this fine morning? You need your nutrients and probiotics to grow strong and healthy!” Bokuto teased as he pulled out two small Yakult bottles from his uniform pocket, waving them in your face. You scoffed as you pushed away his hand, rolling your eyes.
“You know you don’t need to be sly about asking for my homework anymore,” you said as you began swinging your backpack to the front of your body, unzipping it.
“I know, I just always feel guilty taking it. I know how hard you work and for me to just take it seems completely unfair!” the owl-haired spiker pouted, slipping the Yakult bottles into your pockets, a slight blush dusting your cheeks as his hands brushed against your sides.
Bokuto needing your homework became a common occurrence starting in middle school. As volleyball slowly overtook his life, he had less and less time for his studies. By the time his practices or games were over, Bokuto no longer had any energy to do anything except lean on your shoulders as the two of you walked home. He tried to do his own work, wanting none of his successes to come from anything except his own hard work, but you couldn’t sit by and watch him work himself half to death, struggling to stay awake to finish his math homework as drool dripped onto his homework.
In return, the owl-haired spiker would compensate for your homework answers by taking you out for ice cream after his practices or bringing you breakfast, knowing you often skipped out on the meal. You don’t know when it happened, but somewhere along the way, you began wishing that Bokuto would take you out for ice cream not to repay you for homework answers, but as a no-so-platonic date.
Maybe it was his constant enthusiasm that never failed to cheer you up, or maybe it was the way you seemed to be the only person able to bring him out of his emo mood swings (until Akaashi showed up), but in some ways, Bokuto made you feel special.
You knew it would be wrong to indulge in your feelings for Bokuto. The impending loom of your eighteenth birthday was a constant reminder. You knew that you had a soulmate waiting for you, and the chances of it being Bokuto were slim to none. The wing spiker had already gotten his soulmate mark, being three months older than you.
You often found yourself staring at it, whether it was during class or his practices. The three horizontal lines drawn across his wrist seemed to mock you at times, as if telling you there was someone in this world better for Bokuto than you. Someone who could make him infinitely happier than what you could. Someone he would care for as much as you cared for him.
You were hoping to meet your soulmate quickly, thinking that meeting them would make you lose all feelings you had for Bokuto. No longer would you have to feel the guilt of wanting to take someone else’s true love away.
You were quickly shaken out of your thoughts once you felt Bokuto’s movements stop next to you. The transformation of the spiker’s usual confident smile into a shell-shocked look was all too familiar.
“What’s wrong? Forgot your practice clothes again?” you asked looking up at his face.
“Please tell me,” Bokuto began, staring blankly ahead, “that we don’t have a biology test today.”
༻﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡﹡༺
“This is all your fault,” you grumbled angrily as you leaned back in your chair.
“I’m so sorry, y/n,” Bokuto pouted, “please forgive me! I’ll buy you extra ice cream today!”
“You better be grateful you don’t have practice today. Coach would have benched you from the next game if you had to miss practice for detention.”
You knew you had succeeded in making Bokuto feel guilty. Despite being annoyed with him, you couldn’t help but feel a little bad for being so harsh. Then again, if Bokuto hadn’t been so obvious about looking off of your biology test, neither of you would be in this position.
The sound of the metal desk moving across the floor made you look up in Bokuto’s direction. Your eyes immediately widened. The owl-haired spiker had suddenly moved his desk right next to yours, pleading eyes centimeters away from yours. You quickly averted your graze, not able to contain the color seeping into your cheeks.
“B-Bo, what are you doing,” you blushed.
Bokuto, obviously unaware of the effect he had on you, stuck his bottom lip out as he placed his hand on yours, “Please forgive me, y/n. I hate it when you’re upset with me.”
“It’s fine, Kotaro,” you mumbled, still unable to look him in the eyes. You could feel the rough calluses of his hands on yours as he squeezed your hand in response.
“I’m such a bad friend. You deserve better, y/n,” Bokuto exclaimed. You sighed, finally looking up at him. You couldn’t help but inwardly giggle at how adorable he looked, even is his emo moods.
“You’re the best friend anyone could have asked for, Bo.” you smiled at him, “if you really want to make up for today, you could tell me what you got me for my birthday!”
“No way! Wait till tomorrow! Birthday presents are meant to be a surprise,” Bokuto exclaimed, slowly returning back to his cheery-self.
“It was worth a shot,” you muttered, leaning to put your head down on your desk.
That day, Bokuto bought you extra ice cream as he said he would. The longer the two of you spent together, the more anxious you got. It was only a couple hours until you would receive the mark that would connect you to your soulmate. A couple hours until your fate was sealed and Bokuto was confirmed to never be yours.
You couldn’t help but stare at his mark as he licked his ice cream. The wing spiker noticed your gaze.
“Are you excited to get your soulmate mark?” Bokuto asked excitedly. You shrugged in response.
“I don’t know,” you answered honestly, “it’s scary.”
“I know how you feel,” Bokuto nodded in agreement, “but no matter what, even if we never find our soulmates, we’ll have each other!”
Little did he know that you wanted nothing more than to find your soulmate. You wanted nothing more than to end your unrequited feelings for the man sitting across from you. You knew you were fated to be with someone else, just as Bokuto was fated to fall in love with someone who wasn’t you.
Funny how fate works.
