Things I did last semester that boosted my average:
I don’t really like to toot my own horn but I see these posts a lot and I thought I’d share what really worked for me personally :)
•took both handwritten and typed notes (minimized hand fatigue so my notes were actually good lol) (also it’s far easier to take extensive notes and delete them later than to take minimal notes and be stuck trying to remember what was said)
•before an exam: created flashcards, diagrams, and rewrote or fleshed out notes on a word doc in a simulated exam atmosphere to enhance later recall
•planned a month at a time so I knew in advance when I could socialize and when I had to Grind™️ to prevent burnout
•made friends in my classes!! genuinely makes a big difference
•annotated the hell out of everything (pencil or post in textbooks to resell, pen and highlighters in books I knew I’d keep, all online readings were converted to PDFS and I scribbled all over them)
•annotated with jokes this is maybe unorthodox but I swear it worked for me- I’d laugh at the wording, draw emojis, reference memes, and crack jokes in the margins of my books and it made it so much easier to remember key points of the readings later on
•cut off toxic friends. self explanatory lol but stress impacts your grades!

the smoke from the wildfires in canada are crossing the atlantic and is now bringing a haze to the nordic countries
it's said that the soot from the smoke will deposit onto the snow and ice of the arctic which will in turn increase local warming (i.e worst wildfires, ice sheets melting, oceans warming and rising, stronger tropical cyclones, etc. etc.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From the NY Times (and other sources):
Ways to Help
The Canadian Red Cross: Every $1 donated to the Canadian Red Cross will become $3 to support those affected by wildfires. The funds will be directed to people living in Nova Scotia and other Atlantic provinces, some of the hardest hit areas, for immediate and ongoing relief and recovery efforts as well as community preparedness initiatives.
United Way: The Canadian federal government joined the government of the Northwest Territories in a similar matching program to support disaster relief and recovery efforts. The funds will be used to support nonprofit community groups who are helping local residents.
Donate a Mask: This volunteer-run charity ships free N95-equivalent masks to anyone in Canada who requests them, with priority to Canadians who cannot afford or do not have access to high-quality masks.
Firefighters Without Borders: This Ontario-based nonprofit donates equipment and training to communities across Canada and in other countries.
Odawa Native Friendship Centre: The Odawa NFC is a nonprofit organization serving the Indigenous community in the Ottawa-Carleton region and is currently collecting donations for First Nation evacuees (with “wildfire evacuees” as the donation type). On Facebook, the NFC noted that it can no longer accept clothing donations.
Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC): Live map of the fires. Updated daily.
APTN National News: Newspaper on the Indigenous Peoples of Canada. Can be used to understand how the climate is affecting the Inuit, Métis, and First Nations.

pediatrics week 4/6: ctu & exam
it is officially my last week on peds !!!
tbh now that it is over, i think i will actually miss it LOL i learned a lot, the majority of the staff and residents have been really nice and helpful, & i think the parents are generally quite grateful for your help :-)
ctu this week was much better b/c i felt like i finally had the lay of the land. i felt more confident in my abilities to work, and more comfortable being independent. also i think i was more comfortable with my team so <333 much love.
the hardest part is probably trying to study after work 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 i literally feel like i’m about to fall asleep every time i open my laptop after my shift LOLOL and honestly, idk how people fit in everything into their day, it feels like there’s too little hours for anything but work, sleep, and eating.

I'm officially certified in Standard First Aid and made friends with some of my classmates since it was our first time meeting in person. For lunch today, three of us went for sushi. Everyone was engaging and cracking jokes during the course. Our instructors were hilarious. What a lovely two days I had!

as far as i'm aware from reading US news (ny times) most of the smoke on the US east coast is from the canadian fires. also, the fires in canada are a lot lot lot worse than looks on the image you can see - hundreds of fires burning all across canada.
as a californian myself, i've also been kind of annoyed seeing all the news about like 'unprecedented smoke in nyc' like seriously? this isn't unprecedented, just for them specifically. I understand that seeing the orange skies was crazy but like...it's not new...I literally saw that myself during the fires of 2020 in Calif. i've had friends and family had to evacuate from nearby fires, i had to wear an n95 during the summer before covid because being outside in that air quality made me feel sick. my brother had school and sports cancelled because it was too dangerous to be outside breathing the air.
calif, oregon, washington, british columbia and all of the western US and canada (maybe mexico too, I don't know about impact of smoke/fires in central or latin america) have been dealing with this for years. australia and nz have been dealing with this too for years.
I'm sorry...I kind of just wanted to complain a bit...it was a bit jarring seeing all those headlines about it being new when it's really not, it's just only new for the US east coast which has the biggest & loudest mouthpiece coming from america.
i'd also love to see some resources about the fires in canada if anyone has sent you any. i know for california, Cal Fire (fire.ca . gov) has info on calif. since there was a lot of rain this year (i've never seen so much rain in my life) i'm hoping fire season won't be too bad but we never know...
hi anon!
it's okay to vent about it. i understand that for those who have dealt with or are currently dealing with large wildfires would be annoyed by those who are not experiencing it as they are. still, i don't think it's right to blame those people without educating them a bit on it first.
honestly even when it comes to the east coast smoke most news talk specifically about nyc than the other places dealing with the same thing. picky news coverage can be frustrating to say the least.
and you're certainly right about it being new to us but not everyone else. the east coast is generally pretty wet with hurricanes in summer (which hurricane season officially started around a week ago, which i'm curious if it'll be affected at all since the smoke is also going east into the atlantic and wildfire smoke throws off marine ecosystems and cyclones are worse when the water is warmer) and snow storms during winter. i think no matter where you are, people will react extremely if something out of the ordinary happens. personally i can't even imagine it since even when i lived on the west coast, it was near seattle and mostly wet.
thank you for providing some info on california! nobody else has sent anything yet, but i'll definitely post if they do! :)
my screenshot was from fire.airnow.gov and from zooming in more i get a slightly better picture of where the fires are but the low accuracy is likely because the site's focus is only the us. nasa is usually quite good in capturing this things in the states, so i checked the canadian space agency to see if they had better images of the fires. while i didn’t find any recent satellite images (best i found was a video from a month ago), i was directed to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC) which has an updated interactive map on the homepage. This site alao has links to individual centers in each province.

. INTRODUCTION .
Hi! My name is Garden ( From main account: @gardenkeeper ), and this is my somewhat studyblr?. I study arts and languages with a focus on the Indigenous languages of Turtle Island
. . . . .
Some information about me:
. My pronouns are he/him. I'm trans and queer.
. I'm 21 years old
. I'm Irish/French-Canadian, from Quebec. French is my native language.
. I'm aspiring to become a librarian.
. I'm interested in both languages and linguistics.
Language information:
. FRENCH: As mentioned above, French is my native language. I specifically speak with a Southwestern Quebec dialect. My interest in French as a language in Quebec falls through the lens of linguistics, seeing how it developed with the influence of French minority languages such as Gallo and Poitevin-Saintongeais. I'm also interested in the history of la Francophonie of North America as a whole.
. ENGLISH: I consider myself to be in the C1 to C2 range for English. I've been speaking it since I was three years old and never made the conscious effort of learning it, and therefore see it as a second native language
. IRISH: I've been actively learning Irish for about a year at this point and fall somewhere in the A2 range. It's currently my main focus and a way for me to reconnect to my Irish heritage. I have a bias towards the Connacht Dialect, but haven't chained myself down to it yet
. GREEK: At the moment, Greek is my secondary focus. I do not spend much time on it, and am only keeping it active so that when I reach a higher level in Irish, I already have a base in this one
. OTHER: I dabbled in Italian as a teenager, but lost most of it, though I can still read it. My next language will either be ( Colombian ) Spanish or Aln8ba8dwaw8gan, depending on my situation in the next few years, and I hope to eventually be able to learn Turkish from Greek. I'm also interested in many other languages, including, but not limited to Tagalog, Catalan, ( Levantine ) Arabic, Icelandic, Norwegian, Breton and Punjabi
. . . . .
I do not tolerate any form of bigotry. If you see me reblog or say something that shows otherwise, please inform me and I will remove the post or correct myself.

obgyn week 6/6
hello hello! i thought i would do a final check-in for obgyn as i’m preparing for exams. obgyn was an interesting rotation because each week we would explore a diff part of obgyn - birthing unit, maternal fetal medicine, gynecology, and gyne onc, and they also set up community clinics so that we could see what they do in the community! the variety was nice, but definitely stressful to switch so often and feel lost every monday.
i think overall, obgyn is an interesting mix of medicine and surgery, and there is so much variety of what you can do after you graduate. calls were also quite busy b/c women give birth at all times of day (lol!). i can see the appeal of obgyn, but i don’t think it is the right fit for me.
ps. isn’t this the prettiest picture of my friend <3

Standard First Aid today and tomorrow!

hi bryn's studyblr! i was wondering if you had any advice for people going into their first year of uni (hint: me) esp anything pertaining to getting a BA?
Hi Abby! I'll be honest, I'm not really sure how things may differ with a Canadian uni versus a US American one, but here are some tips!
Make friends in your classes! Not only does this mean that you know people who you can spend time with who have similar interests, but it also means that if you have trouble with anything in the class, you can go to them. I make it a goal to get the phone number of at least one person in every class. Even if you never end up contacting them outside of class, at least you have another resource
If you know what you want to do, try to figure out the requirements for your degree early. It can help reduce stress later instead of realizing last minute that you have more classes or labs you need to take (this might pertain more to US universities tho? I know a lot of other countries have a more rigid structure instead of letting you change focus in the middle of your college career)
Figure out what study methods work best for you. Maybe you'll find you work best with someone else who you can ask questions. Maybe you work best in silence. Maybe you like flashcards, maybe you don't. But figuring this out can be super helpful. Also, actually study!! Do the assigned readings and homework. They help, I promise
That being said, join clubs! Go out! Do! University doesn't have to be all studying all the time. In fact, you'll likely burn out if you do school work 100% of the time
Professors are your friends! Well, maybe not friends necessarily, but they are there to help. Go to office hours (is this a US thing too? idk), you can ask them things one on one and build up a relationship, which can be super helpful for future letters of recommendation. Ask questions when you're confused. I guarantee, you're not the only one with that question
If you're a procrastinator like me, treat any long-term due date like a short-term one, and get to work! Start planning ahead so you don't write a 10 page research paper in a day and a half like someone me did
If you get a roommate, establish do's and don't's. Establishing them early on can save you a lot of frustration later
These are what I could think of off the top of my head, but I'll let you know if I think of anything else! And feel free to ask anything, I may not have a good answer but I'll try to help :)
