Christmas Countdown Day 17 - Mulled Wine
Tumblr media
Treat
Pairing: Joel Miller x fem!reader
Word count: 1.7k (on the dot)
Tags/Warnings: no use of y/n, smut, fluff, daddy kink, piv sex, DIRTY dirty talk, soft dom joel, but also degrading nicknames (in a loving way), idk y'all its 2:00 am rn, frottage, stuff i'm forgetting
Summary: Joel thanks you for your consideration
A/N: I'm so tired, but I think this turned out pretty good. Lots of dirty talk. Idk. I'm putting this in my queue and passing tf out. Idk what happened bc this was supposed to be sweet and then it turned so dirty.
****
You watch Joel from the window as you finish stirring your ingredients one final time. It had been a bit of a struggle to get everything you needed to create a mulled wine, but you had done it.
Joel had mentioned to you in passing how he used to drink it around Christmas time before the outbreak. He’d invite Tommy over and the brothers would sit at the kitchen table with Sarah.
Joel would sip on his wine while Tommy indulged on his usual beer, absolutely refusing to touch Joel’s “sissy drink”. Sarah had asked once if she could have a mug of it, and so she ended up with a warm apple cider.
The story had made you laugh, you could almost see Tommy teasing Joel while Sarah whined for her own “sissy drink”.
They would sit around with their respective drinks after decorating the tree and recall fond memories. It was one of Joel’s favorite traditions back then, and you could tell he had a hard time opening up about it.
He’s been doing so much better with it lately–opening up to you. He used to not let a thing slip, but since you’ve settled in Jackson with Ellie, he’s been able to relax a bit. You don’t try to rush it, but you’re happy that he’s finally able to do so.
You sigh contentedly as you divide the wine into two steaming mugs. Looking back out the window, you can see Joel coming back up from the shed where Ellie had insisted on living. He’s halfway back to the main house now.
You think it’s cute, but also good for her, that she wanted to be independent. Though you would hate to be any farther from her. You know Joel feels the same way with how much he talks about it and goes over there to fix small things for her.
Just now, he had been over there re-caulking the window frames. He’s been worried about how cold it might be getting in there lately with all the snow outside.
Just then, Joel opens the door, a blast of frosty air blowing in with him and making you shiver. He notices you immediately, a smile adorning his rosy features.
“Hey, sweetheart,” he says as he starts to pull his gloves off. “What’re you doin?”
You step to him, starting to help him with his thick leather jacket. He sets his gloves down on the kitchen counter and allows you to pry the coat off.
“Just making a treat,” you say, trying to hide the excitement in your voice.
“Oh?” Joel questions with a slight chuckle at your vague answer. “What kinda treat?”
You bite your lip to suppress your smile as you hang his coat up on the rack by the door before backtracking to the stove. You pick up the two steaming mugs of wine and walk back to him.
Joel knows what it is as soon as you pass him his mug. He looks down at it, then at you with nothing but love and gratitude. Not only had you remembered him talking about how much he enjoyed it, but you had gone out of your way to do something nice for him.
You watch him, trying to gauge his reaction. It did cross your mind once or twice while making it that he might not appreciate it because of the memories. That it might bring back things he didn’t want to think about. It didn’t seem likely–maybe a few months ago it would have–but not now. It had still been nagging you nonetheless.
It definitely doesn’t look like that’s the case, though, with the way Joel takes both of the mugs and sets them down to engulf you in a hug. He holds you close to him and whispers a small “thank you, baby” into your hair.
You smile into his chest, your arms wrapped tightly around him.
“You’re welcome, Joel,” you say, pulling your head back. He dips down to kiss you slowly, and you bring one of your hands up to thread into his fluffy graying hair. Joel groans into your lips and keeps ahold of you as he leads you backwards into the living room, your lips staying together as much as possible.
Once he reaches the couch, he sits down, pulling you on top of him. You shift to get situated in his lap, the two of you separating to catch your breath. Keeping eye contact, you grind down on him, making him groan as you pass over his bulge.
“Careful, darlin’,” Joel warns. “Keep that up and I ain’t gonna go easy on you.”
You smile mischievously at him as you do it again, and this time as he groans, he puts his hands over your hips and helps you do it. You allow him to drag you across him, his dick hardening with each pass.
Your clit catches on the fabric of his jeans, making you moan sweetly as you place your forehead on his shoulder.
“Feels good,” you whine as the pressure increases.
“Bet it does,” Joel teases. “My whore’s so starved she can get her little pussy off rubbin’ on my fuckin’ jeans.”
You moan louder at his words as you gyrate your hips, feeling a warmth starting to take over in your belly.
“Yeah, you gonna come like this?” Joel asks.
You just nod, letting him feel your agreement. You’re so close, just a couple more seconds.
“Alright then, go ahead, baby. Come on daddy’s lap with that slutty little cunt.”
And you do. You moan loudly as your movements grow more frantic, your cum seeping out and slicking up your clit to make the glide more pleasurable. The feeling of your pussy throbbing around nothing is almost a tease when you have Joel’s cock within reach.
He seems to know what you’re thinking, because as soon as you stop moving, he reaches for your pants. He unzips them and pats your thigh to make you get up before pulling them and your ruined panties down your thighs and having your step out of them.
You quickly get back onto his lap, covering his lips with yours in a sloppy kiss as he begins to work at his own pants. You can feel the moment he pulls his cock out, and you look down to admire it. You’ve always thought he has such a beautiful cock. Seems fitting for him.
His tip is already an angry red, leaking pre-cum which lubricates his thick shaft as he pumps himself a couple times.
“C’mon, baby, get up here on daddy’s cock. Don’t make me wait.”
You quickly obey, sitting up on your knees to notch him at your entrance. You sink down on him, moaning as he grunts. Your hands fly to his shoulders as he bottoms out, allowing you to adjust for a second.
It is only a second though, before he starts to thrust up into you. You moan at the first punch of his cock against your cervix. He places his hands back on your hips and assists you on bouncing on him.
“Tha’s it, baby,” Joel praises. “Never get tired of this messy fucking pussy. She’s always so hungry for me.”
You whine in agreement as you lift yourself up and down, a wet squelch coming from between your legs each time you fill yourself. Joel gazes into your eyes as you struggle to keep yours open. His teeth grit each time he hits a spot that makes you squeeze around him.
“Feel so good, daddy,” you tell him as you admire the thin sheen of sweat beginning to cover his golden skin. “I-you-I–”
“I know, honey,” Joel cuts you off. “Cockdrunk already.”
His condescending tone never fails to get you going. You fucking love it when he treats you like this, because you know that it’s not real. Just for now, you get to be his slut, his little fuck toy. Joel would never dream of speaking to you like this any other way.
You just nod at him, feeling your second orgasm approach. Joel begins to thrust quicker into you, making you whine with each punch.
“Yeah, I can feel it, baby. Let go for me.”
It only takes a few more thrusts before you’re coming around him, flooding his cock with your cum. The extra lubrication makes it even easier for him to slide in and out of you, and he takes full advantage of that, fucking your thorugh your orgasm at full speed.
“So damn tight n wet,” Joel grits out. “Poor pussy just can’t control ‘erself.”
“Mnm, she needs you, daddy,” you confirm, your eyes closed now as you rest on his shoulder again. Your legs are starting to ache, but you continue your movements as much as you can so Joel isn’t doing all the work, though you’re sure he wouldn’t mind too much.
His pace begins to falter and get more frantic as he gets closer to his own end.
“G-Gonna come on this little cunt,” he tells you through tight teeth. “Mark you all up n watch it drip off’a you.”
“Please, Joel, want your cum so bad.”
You can feel the way he pulses as he gets closer, watch the way he bites his plush bottom lip to contain himself.
He suddenly pulls you up hard, his cock falling out of you just in time to coat your pussy lips with his warm cum. He groans as he runs his tip just barely onto you, letting the sligh friction lengthen his high.
When he comes down, he places you gently back on his lap, his spent cock nestled between the two of you. You both breath heavily in a comfortable silence, and you almost fall asleep until you remember the wine.
“Wait, Joel–”
“It’s good room-temp too,” he says, his eyes cracked open just slightly. You scowl playfully at him, slapping his chest lightly.
“Or we could warm it back up. Jus’ sit here a minute, darlin. I’m too damn old for this shit.”
You giggle at him but comply, resting your head back on his chest. The wine will just have to wait.

💋 | “May I have this dance?”
💋 | Pairing: Jungkook x reader
💋 | Genre: Angst to fluff
————————————————————————————
Every time his gaze wanders towards her. Your heart clenches, eyes shift away in sadness and your whole body slumps.
he comes in waves. Your heart pounds hard against your chest whenever he smiles at you, a rarity to behold. But in the end, you’re always reminded of the fact that he retreats to her.
You’re reminded of the fact that his heart, goes to her.
Not you.
You weren’t aware of the reason, but you knew that his heart belonged to her.
Your senior, whose grades were astounding unlike yours. She has the perfect body, hair and voice, it wasn’t shocking that the person he fell for would be someone who is as attractive as he is
But funny how you realise where his eyes wander.
but don’t realise how his heart points to you.
You’re sure, 100% sure he hates you. You and Jungkook have known each other since day one of college. It has never been the same
It was never peaceful between the two of you, either the frosty ice-cold glares or the heated bickering.
There were a few times you’ve wanted to murder that one but at the same time there were instances where he made you heart beat a hundred times faster
there were a few things to note about Jeon Jungkook
1. He’s annoying
2. Head over heels for his senior
3. hella attractive
4. he’s annoying
5. should not make your heart race but somehow still manages to find a way to do so
You twirled the sparkling champagne in your grasp. You should’ve never come.
you couldn’t understand why. Why of all men you had to fall for him.
The man with gorgeous slick black hair, thick pink lips, adorable bunny smile and a voice that could bring anyone to their knees.
The only reasonable explanation you could count on; Life works in mysterious ways and the heart longs for the things it can’t get.
So here you are, sitting at the corner bar of the ballroom, your stilettos long forgotten, strewn on the floor below your barstool. Your hair was wavy and styled to perfection and your dress complimented your natural curves.
But, as always, he would only spare you a glance before rushing you along to the ball, his heart beating excitedly for another individual.
“Y/n hurry it up, we’re gonna be late” he says, checking his watch. He was anxious. You could feel it, literally. Anxious to see her
You sighed, quickly grabbing your things but paused as you felt him slide his coat over your shoulders.
“it’s going to be cold silly” that was all he said before he left the door first.
It was, stupid, and embarrassing but you couldn’t help but snuggle further into his coat, enjoying the scent of his cologne and it’s warmth.
But you realised, how these things only lasted for a few minutes, and these are the things he do, not for you but out of his goodwill.
When you arrived to the destination, you were immediately bombarded with compliments from the rest of his friends, them not being familiar to the sight of you in a formal dress.
You blushed as they greeted you with hugs and complimented you on your dress.
And you could’ve sworn the hold that jungkook had on your waist, tightened.
But as she walked in, his hand slipped away, immediately going to her and leaving you behind.
You actually know her, the senior that jungkook was definitely in love with. She was beautiful and kindhearted, even helping you with some unclear topics since she was a year above you. You greeted her with a smile and let the others welcome her.
and as he talked to her, you could see how happy he was and how you would never be able to make him as happy as she could.
It was easy to slip away, not bothering to tell anyone. You found the bar and grabbed a champagne flute before exploring the place.
It was a charity event that your university had collaborated with and most of the students were invited.
It was magnificent to say the least.
Sipping on your champagne, you leaned on the balcony as you stared at the starry sky. How you wish upon a star, that you could be the girl he was in love with, the girl who could make him smile brightly.
You smiled sadly at the sky, regretting coming to this event in the first place
“Hey” someone called out
you whipped behind to find Namjoon, holding a similar flute.
“Oppa” you smiled before standing straight and greeting him again.
“What are you doing alone out here y/n, the rest are inside chilling” he asked you
Namjoon has always been a insightful senior whom, in many instances, literally blessed you with the ability to pass your exams.
You shook your head, “nah, just...not really feeling it” you told him truthfully. You couldn’t bare, watching him gush over her.
“It’s because of kook isn’t it?” he glanced at you. “You know, he looks at her with admiration. He looks at another girl with eyes filled with love”
you snorted, shaking your head.
“Thanks oppa, but it’s hard to believe that’s true” you whispered
even if it was true, the possibility of him ever harbouring feelings for you would be a big fat zero.
“My dear, stubborn junior, he should know his limits, i mean i am dating said senior” now that made you choke slightly and your eyes to widen.
Namjoon pat you gently while chuckling.
“You’ll see, soon enough when he decides to actually man the fuck up” Namjoon said while shaking his head and snickering
you were confused by his response but decided to remain silent. you gave him a half-hearted smile in slight respect and then looked out into the scenery
However much you wanted to jump out of the balcony, scale the wall like a fucking parkour master and race home, the view in front of you was worth not accidentally breaking your bones.
The sun had set hours ago, giving way to a serene and beautiful night sky. The moon gleamed gorgeously and the stars filled the blank, dark canvas, and the stars sparkled like diamonds.
You stared at the sky above you, wishing the stars and moon would listen to your wish
i wished he looked at me the same way he looks at her
“There you are, i was- hyung” Jungkook entered, stopping when he saw the two of you. his eyes narrowed, and even thought you don’t notice, his hands clenched together into tight fists, teeth clenching together.
“that’s my cue, to my two stupidly idiotic juniors, i hope you find your way.” Namjoon announces as he stands up, adjusts his tie and head back to the main hall. “aka jungkook just tell her” he shouts as he starts running
immediately a blush paints the colours of Jungkook’s face, and he immediately shouts back, “Yah, hyung!” eyes filled with panic and slight annoyance.
At this point you were hella confused. The cool breeze caused the trees to sway and rustle and you immediately felt goosebumps forming on your arms. Cursing yourself for not bringing a coat or something of that sort, you desperately rub your arms up and down in hopes of minimal warmth.
You felt his suit drape across your shoulders, and Jungkook huffs while taking you into his arms and cuddling your face into his chest. immediately his warmth envelopes you and his scent makes you blush and push your face further into his chest.
Just enjoy it for a while
Jungkook slightly rocks the two of you together making you giggle. “dance with me” he says, eyes filled with something you called unfamiliarity. You but your lip and you feel your face get hotter with embarrassment, “i-i don’t know how to dance” you whisper, eyes not meeting his. Damnit you couldn’t even dance, she probably knows how to
Jungkook chuckles as he tilts your chin up, placing his hand on your cheeks. This was seriously the first time he had ever showed this much “affection” to you, it was as if the Jungkook who bickered with you, literally sticking his tongue out at you in an argument had been buried
“step on my shoes y/n” you widened your eyes at his words. and couldn’t help yourself when you muttered out, “i’m sorry what?”
Jungkook groans and tightened his hold on you, his arms resting on your waist. “Step on my shoes and i’m not repeating it”
“b-but i’m”
“y/n” he says softly. Something shines through his eyes, his stare makes your heart race faster in your chest. You step lightly on his shoes, as he smiled down at you and starts to move.
Jungkook guides you literally, as the two of you dance the the soft melody of the band playing in the main banquet, under the gleam of the moon.
You giggle, loving the moment and Jungkook flashes you a grin that takes your breath away.
You smile, though sadly, thinking about the fact that after this, the two of you would go back to being friends? sorta enemies? you’re not even sure
but you cherished the moment you spent with him, no matter how painful your heart cries at the fact that you’ll never be his.
“y/n”
“hmm?” you hum, resting your head on his chest, his neck resting on your head.
“i have something to tell you”
“yeah?” you mumble absentmindedly loving the warmth his body is emitting
“y/n look at me”
this was when you realise, what his eyes was trying to convey.
love
“you know how i said i would never like someone like you” his said without any hesitation
Your heart twists and already your eyes stung with tears you tried to hide as you looked down at your shoes
“yeah?” you whisper painfully
he once again tilt your head to look at his eyes. His beautiful fucking eyes.
“the reason is because i’ve already fallen in love with someone like you”
your eyes widen and you open your mouth to reply but he takes the opportunity to kiss you on the lips. Holy smokes
his hands gently pushes your neck closed towards him, deepening the kiss as your hands slid up his back, intertwining at his neck. Your heart was ready to leap out of home base and your swear your knees was going to fail you at any given moment.
He pulled away, leaning his forehead against yours. You relished in the moment, as he smiles brightly.

tfa bulkhead x tfa prowl
Ohhh Bulkhead is over the moon when he finds out! He's been feeling sick lately, struggling with energon intake and being really lethargic and sore. He finally caves and goes to Ratchet and a single scan later reveals the shocking truth: a tiny little spark nestled close to his. Now, Bulkhead comes from waaay out in the commonwealth. He knows what sparklings are. He's seen old pictures but never actually met one himself.
And he is so excited. Runs out of the medbay--with Ratchet yelling behind him to, "Be careful, slag it! Don't overexert yourself!"--to find Prowl and tell him the good news. Dents his much smaller partner considerably with one of his huge full body best hugs: Prowl's pedes are dangling above the floor and he's being swung back and forth as Bulkhead eagerly tells him they're going to have a sparkling. A real sparkling, can he believe it?! There's a tiny baby bot growing inside him! He's all sunshine and rainbows and walking on cloud nine, he's so excited to be a carrier!
Prowl is really shocked cuz he didn't think such a thing was possible, but ultimately he's happy. He does everything he can to be supportive and help Bulkhead be comfortable, quietly going to Ratchet to discuss all the necessary action he should take as a sire. They're light years away from an actual hospital, and while he has complete faith in Ratchet's skills, a lot of things could go wrong. If the sparkling comes early and needs a NICU, if Bulkhead develops any kind of complication or deficiency, etc, etc. They even consider returning to Cybertron, just in case, but ultimately decide against it. Hospitals there aren't trained to care for newborns anyway, and Bulkhead really, really wants his newspark to experience the joys of earth.
He makes an entire nursery for the bitty, with plenty of help from Bumblebee and Sari, painting the walls with pastel cybertronian myths and star systems, making a mobile and cradle and little toys for them. Prowl pots several flowering plants to bring color and fresh air to the room, never mind the fact that they don't need oxygen 🤭 Ratchet's got some old parenting prep programs on his drives that he's glad to hand over, and Bulkhead watches them religiously.
He also gets hooked on cute human baby compilation videos, especially of them laughing and meeting family members for the first time. He can't wait to do all these things with his bitty! He can't wait to hear them laugh for the first time, can't wait for their first steps, can't wait for every single wonderful experience they're going to have and that he gets to witness. He's so in love with the little spark growing inside him, always holding both servos over his chassis and humming to them. He talks to them every night, telling them about all the great things he can't wait to show them. Prowl talks to them too, carefully draped over his belly and murmuring how proud and excited he is. He adores observing the cycles of life on earth, and now he's taking part in creating life from scratch? It's the greatest honor he's ever been given.
The bitty is born on a cold, frosty day in winter, when the skies are gray and the snow is falling in big cotton flakes outside. It's an uncomplicated emergence, thankfully, though Bulkhead spends several painful hours in labor pacing around the delivery room. Prowl is an absolute champion of a supporting sire, fetching warm towels and glasses of coolant left right and center, immediately there with hands to hold or with soothing words. Even Ratchet is impressed, most first time sires are a mess. Internally Prowl is a nervous wreck but he's doing everything in his power to be calm and supportive, and Bulkhead really appreciates it.
After nearly 9 hours, their precious little baby is born. An incredibly round, black-as-night little marshmallow, with their carrier's alt mode and a pair of sleepy blue optics peeking out of the void. Like one of those all-black kittens that just disappear on a dark rug. That's their bitty. Just the roundest softest little shadow. Bulkhead is sobbing, tears of joy streaming down his face when he holds them for the first time. He's never felt such an intense, choking sensation of love before, he didn't know it was possible to love something this much. It's pure euphoria and he feels like he's floating, spark singing in his chassis when he takes them in his arms and gets to look at them for the first time. He kisses their helm a dozen times, blubbering incoherently and welcoming them to the world. They're perfect, so, so perfect, and he's the happiest he's ever been. Prowl comes up beside the bed and his knees wobble before nearly giving out: it hits him all at once that he's a dad now and he almost collapses. He was composed throughout the entire birth but now that they're here? He's losing his cool. His mouth is hanging open and his optics are shining so bright you can see them behind his visor; he leans down to wrap shaking arms around both of them. The baby peeps in surprise and peers up at him in wonder, and he smiles so widely his face nearly breaks.
He greats them in a mystified, trembling voice, saying hello, hi there, I'm your sire, welcome to earth-
He has no idea what he's saying, he's running completely on autopilot, but one thing's for sure: this is the happiest he's ever been in a long, long time.

Now for something completely different! I’ve been working on an AU called Guardians (page is still a WIP) for months now and I’m finally ready to share a story from it. Please heed the tags and enjoy!
Rating: General
Relationships: Hobie/Therapy
Characters: Hobie Brown, Original Animal Character, Pavitr Prabhakar (mentioned), Gwen Stacy (mentioned), Miles Morales (mentioned).
Wordcount: 1,430
TW: Starvation, Homelessness
Tags: Alternative title: ‘Author tears up over hedgehogs,’ Fluff, Angst and Hurt/Comfort, Animal Companions AU, Platonic/Familial relationship, Hobie Brown backstory, Set 2 years before he becomes Spider-Punk, Hobie needs a hug (and gets a very spiny one), it’s a lovely story I promise, Character study.
Summary: Hobie nodded in approval, speaking around his third slice in under as many minutes, “fuck capitalism, feed hedgehogs.”
Ruthless
The smog-choked air was still so frosty this time of year. Once vaguely warm, the battered, grease-stained box she was curled up upon now did nothing to ease the painful shivers running from her goose-bumped skin, all the way to the very tips of her all-encasing, banded spines. Still, she was grateful. It wasn’t the height of winter anymore, they’d made it out alive and this was the first spot of good luck they’d had in a while.
Cold or otherwise, that’s the wonderful thing about pizza, you could eat it regardless— well, if you didn’t mind the pineapple. They’d both eaten far worse, or not at all. Besides, his tastes changed like the wind—
Her ears pricked sharply at the sound of a shoe sole scraping against potholed concrete, clunky and uneven. Her nose twitched fearfully. She should’ve pulled the box further into the shadows of the alley.
Pulse racing, she curled up tighter, spines splayed until the bootprints stopped abruptly, drowned out by the distant honking, shouting, screaming of East London on a Friday night.
Then the wind changed, and all at once her panic immediately soothed into relief.
‘Ruth? You there?”
The massive pizza box slid across the wet pavement with her scrabbling claws as she zoomed towards the end of their hiding spot; a nostalgic pull tugging at her tiny heartstrings as she snuffled at the air. “Over ‘ere! Took you long enough, where the bloody hell you been?” She could almost feel the responding eyeroll as the flickering, looming shadow at the alley’s maw rounded the corner and Hobie Brown stumbled in — joy bubbled and fizzed from her brightly glowing chest and into a resounding chirp — empty handed. Ah.
"Foodbank was sold out when I got there. ‘S fine though, we’ll— I’ll jus-“
“Nono, gimmie a sec,” she croaked and shuffled back the way she’d scurried. The sogginess of the ground nearly proved too strong for her teeth as it sucked on the cardboard, but she managed to drag it just far enough to cut her young charge’s dejection short. “Ta-da! We’ve got ourselves a chicken-dinner! The crowd goes wild, n’ we have full bellies.” Her words were muffled, but from the relieved laugh he’d barked out it was clear he’d understood the gist.
“Oh my days, Ruth you’ve outdone yourself! Also, you should know, you look ridiculous. Never thought I’d see a hedgehog carrying a takeaway box that big, come ‘ere,” the box was lifted effortlessly up into the sky before the boy slumped down next to her. Hobie opened the box with the reverence of a present he’d been counting down the days for, and wolfed down the first slice like a dying man. Well, that…that wasn’t exactly far off. “Where’d you even get this? It’s huge! Could last us two days easy.” Ruth sniffed the food eagerly, climbing up and using his thigh to balance her front paws on so that she could get a better look. Hobie then passed Ruth her single slice so she sat down next to him and set to nibbling away at it. She was rather proud of herself that she’d held out long enough for her charge to have the first piece. Taking care of him was, after all, her entire reason for existing in the very literal, physical, cosmic sense.
“Stole it from a Spaceship Pizza delivery bike while the driver was havin’ a natter. She saw but apparently thought it was funny enough to fight the good fight with her boss.”
Hobie nodded in approval, speaking around his third slice in under as many minutes, “good girl, she gets it. Fuck capitalism, feed hedgehogs.”
“Mm, found your new motto then.”
“‘Course.”
The silence between them as they ate was comfortable, well lived in, homey. Ruth was munching away at a chunky strip of cheap, processed ham when her beady eyes locked onto the dip of Hobie’s hollow cheek as he grinned, and all of a sudden they were seven years old again. The worry wrinkles, far too premature for someone who’s only just turned fifteen forming on his forehead, his sharp edges and his first, shiny, new nose piecing he’d convinced a friend to give him for free we’re gone. "Do you remember we used to eat this in school? You hated pineapple. You don’t now.”
“Nah, I don’t believe in consistency. You of all people should know that.” His bordered edges shifted and his skin turned from grey newspaper clippings about threats of anarchist uprisings to a happy, relatable, empathetic pink. “You haven’t changed a bit. Just a big ol’ hoglet.”
Ruth looked at him aghast, squeaking in disapproval, spines puffing in defiance. “You’re havin’ a tin-bath.” The stripes on her spines and the glowing patch on her chest turned from a happy, relatable, empathetic pink to the grainy grey of tv static.
“Oh no, you still look like a pup to me. Jus’ with more spines. Hey, remember when I tried to count ‘em all again last week? Think I got to 561 this time.”
Ruth huffed. She had waaaay more spines than that. “I could say the same thing, you had all the grace of a toddler the way you nicked your finger. Thought you’d be used to my spines after all this time. Guess I’ll just be free of your cuddles an’ keep warm on my lonesome.”
“Woah, hey now, I’m only playin.’”
"’Course,” Ruth snorted and licked BBQ sauce off of her nose, then sighed wistfully, “blimey, I miss moments like this more than anythin’"
Hobie’s crooked smile waned and seemed to wobble a bit. Seven years old and they’d already been kicked out of their second orphanage. School gave them hot food served with kind, pitying smiles. Their new placement did neither. "Yeah…Y’know, this is the only thing that's made the last three years bearable.”
“Pizza?”
Hobie’s laugh was small, humourless and tired, and Ruth felt a pang of something sharp in her chest that was anything but starvation.
“You. Company. Jus’ ‘avin someone who actually gives a damn about whether or not I live or die tomorrow. Can’t imagine what it’s like for those blokes n’ birds who ain’t got Guardians of their own anymore. Must be propper rough. I’ve heard that…sometimes, when it gets too hard, Guardians can just leave. Sever that bond from birth completely. It happened to ol’ loopy Louis on George Street, at least, that’s what he tells everyone. But I’ve seen others too, I’ve seen two different Guardians before just wandering around alone an’ feral. They looked so lost.”
Ruth suddenly felt sick. She couldn’t think of anything worse than loosing Hobie. She was supposed to take care of him. He was her best friend, her partner in crime, her reason to keep going through these first few years of surviving on the streets. He’d been through so much already for someone so young, he’s wise far beyond his barely 15 years and she wanted to cry. “You couldn’t get rid of me if you tried.”
“I know, I’m jus’ really grateful. You’re a stellar Guardian, Ruth.”
“Well, I don’t know about that” Her voice cracked and she abandoned her half-eaten pizza crust to climb up onto his thigh again, pushing down a couple of times with her front paws to signal that she wanted up. Hobie put down his own 5th slice and picked Ruth up by the armpits to perch her on his sight shoulder. She had to grip onto his thin winter jacket to avoid falling off, but she managed, laying her spines down flat to avoid hurting him. She glanced down to their food through teary eyes, then the pins adorning the jacket’s leather collar, the cheap, patched, fraying jumper underneath and the crochet hook poking out of his top pocket where he kept the bands he was using to try out something new. He’d wanted wicks for a while.
“I do. No one else would go outta their way to steal a pizza three times their size for me.”
“No one worth knowing.” Ruth sniffed wetly, and Hobie, with carefully practiced ease tilted his head and rested his cheek on her back. “One day, you’ll meet people who will do anything for you, Hobie, jus’ like me. People who’d- who’d stop busses an,’ an’ planes and trains for you. They’ll shout your name whenever they see you, and talk about you all the time when you ain’t there, ‘cause they’ll love you millions. You jus’ haven’t met ‘em yet. I know it.
You’ll see.”

hey wendy i know poke isnt your spesh these days but have you tried pokemon sleep? if so, thoughts?
second q, to relate to the spesh, what are your sleep headcanons for franmaya? i imagine fran is like me where she cant sleep if she’s being touched. i think she’s always cold and piles the blankets high but maya is always hot. i think they sometimes sleep in different beds in the winter because fran needs the space heater and maya likes to crack the window and get the frosty air. i’m curious on your headcanons!!
this morning a fucking swalot showed up and that bitch had like 12 fucking friendship points to unlock and was full after 3 biscuits. im screaming in real life. the fuck does a swalot get full? its a stomach. its a stomach with a mouth and a fu manchu. im literally crying. it was my first poison type seen. i would've been so sad if i hadn't caught a croagunk immediately after. whatever.
franziska is the lightest sleeper in the fucking world if you drop a pen seven rooms away she will wake up and start screaming at you. autistic superhearing but also her ears were extra pricked for miles having night terrors down the hall so she could run to his room and hug him. fran goes to sleep early and gets up before the sunrise but she's not opposed to late nights and all nighters either as proven by canon.
maya's the exact opposite of her in every conceivable way. maya sleeps like a fucking log and needs to be jostled awake. if left to her own devices she tends to not wake up until noon or later. stays up super fucking late on social media or watching tv where applicable. also prone to all nighters when she's training really hard OR when the entire season of iron infant leaks overnight. either.
i actually hc them as opposite of your headcanons fdhhf fran's the winter flower in my head and maya's californian. so i generally hc fran as someone who likes the cold and maya as someone who likes the sunshine. maya's cold tolerance is better than fran's heat tolerance tho because yknow. waterfalls and mountains and shit.
i think they're both probably pretty cuddly. but thats just me haha

Bubba , Jason and Michael chilling with their S/o drinking slushies when suddenly, Boom! The slashy bois have brain freeze?
CHARACTERS : BUBBA SAWYER, JASON VOORHEES, MICHAEL MYERS.
Tumblr media
BUBBA SAWYER
Tumblr media
— Sweet things are a rare treat in the Sawyer household with money being so tight, and their… unique appetites. However, ever since you decided to start pulling your own weight and got a job not too far out of town to help keep the house afloat, you’ve been able to afford the occasional sweet treat for your boy!
— You find that Bubba really likes sugar, and gets so excited when you bring anything sweet home for him to try—seeing as he likely hasn’t been introduced to a lot of treats. It was a particularly punishing hot summer day, and he’d been working so so hard on the farm today. It was only right to reward him!
— So you come sauntering out from the house, two rainbow popsicles in hand and a jug of sweet tea. When you approach, he’s lugging around a bin of chicken feed, which gets dropped the moment he sees you. You giggle as he picks you up in an eager hug, only practically bouncing up and down when you offer him a frozen treat.
— The two of you lean up against the fence, licking eagerly at your popsicles before the blistering sun melts them. Bubba might have been a little too eager though… you have half a mind to tell him to slow tf down before he gets a—
— it’s too late, he’s bitten a big chunk off of the popsicle. There’s an ominous silence and anticipation as you watch him worriedly, tongue sticking out of your mouth. And then he seizes, whimpering and tossing the frozen treat away from him like it had burned him. He holds his head, and you almost drop your own popsicle as you leap forward to comfort him.
— “Hey hey woah! calm down, bubs it’s just a brain freeze!” You wheeze, trying hard not to laugh as he wiggles and scrunches his face up underneath the mask of flesh. “It’ll go away soon, just relax.” You press a smiling kiss to his masked cheek and rub his back as that cold sting finally ceases.
— When Bubba recovers from the frosty attack he frowns at the melted rainbow puddle and stick in the grass, the remains of his dessert.
— “Aw c’mon don’t be sad. You can have some of mine.” That brings a smile back to his face.
Tumblr media
JASON VOORHEES
Tumblr media
— Jason doesn’t really need to eat, but you still like to feed him. And he likes to, you think. It’s hard to tell if he only eats because you insist or he genuinely enjoys your cooking— or takeout if you’re not deft in the kitchen. He humors you though, and that’s all you could ever ask for.
— You’re so used to him eating dinner with you at this point that you don’t think twice when you make an extra slushee for movie night. He looks a little confused when you pass him the frozen drink, but takes it without protest, as always— the sweetheart <333
— You sigh as you sip at your slushee, smiling around the straw as your favorite cold mix of flavors dance across your mouth. Your eyes are glued to the TV watching the two protagonists of the western romance flick dance around each other in that shy teenager like way you always see in movies before they’re thrown into a horseback gunfight.
— It startles you a little when you hear a loud slurping sound, eyes fluttering over to see that Jason’s downed a third of the slushee in one go and your eyes widen in thinly-veiled horror. Oh no.
— The response is immediate. You see his good eye wince and he goes rigid beside you, and when a hand on his forearm doesn’t settle him you try to hold in a grin when you realize that your hulking zombie boyfriend is experiencing a very human brain freeze.
— Your humanness demands you to laugh though, and so you burst into a fit of giggles when you see him look accusingly at the cup. You roll onto the floor as laughs wrack your body, hands on your stomach. What’s even more hilarious is that he has no idea why you’re laughing, just staring with that concerned baby blue eye as you lose your shit.
— Once you’re done rolling around on the floor you key him in on the importance of sipping. He still doesn’t entirely understand.
— What’s even cuter though is the way he watches you whenever you take a sip of your own slushee throughout the night, worried you may get this notorious “brain freeze” and you might not survive it.
Tumblr media
MICHAEL MYERS
Tumblr media
— Please show him what actual food is… you know before actually introducing him to sweets. Otherwise it’s all he’s going to eat. You’re pleasantly surprised when you discover that Michael actually has a sweet tooth! It’s not something he’s going to admit if you ask, but you’ve got candy jars stashed all over your house for a reason. He can never really stop at one either. He’s the type to just sit there and eat a whole bag of candy.
— Chastasizing or scolding him does little to amend this. Michael just does what he wants.
— Unfortunately that means he doesn’t listen to you when you tell him to take slow sips with the slushee you offer him one fateful night. And it’s exactly why he downs half the fucking cup in one slurp, just to spite you.
— Michael doesn’t realize why you’re looking at him so smugly until it hits him. Cold, it’s cold!! It feels like his ears are ringing and his brain stings, a cold stabbing in his head.
— He’s PISSED, it’s literally so funny pls. He throws the rest at the wall, letting it drip down the wall as he flicks his head this way and that. Very much those videos of cats when they get brain freezes. Just kind of walks away, very offended. Like why would you betray him this way, he trusted you???
— “I told you to sip, Mikey! AHAHAHA,” you holler as he retreats to the other room to brood. You’ve got a mess to clean, but that performance was worth it!

And I Love Her ~ Harry Potter X Reader ~ Chapter 1: The Swatter, The Fly, And The Audacity Of This Guy
next>>>
Description: Y/n Lupin-Black, the daughter of Remus Lupin and Sirius Black. Her and her best friend, Ron Weasley, met Harry Potter on the Hogwarts express and immediately became friends with him, along with Hermione Granger. She falls for him but the real question is, does he love her?
Additional information: AU where Remus is trans (AFAB). The reader dresses grungey in the story cuz it's the 90s so why not, I also love the grunge aesthetic. I have also made a playlist for this story. Ron and Y/n were introduced to each other when they were young and became best friends. Y/n is also really close to Fred and George and likes to prank people with them. I'm probably going to put the clothes that Y/n is wearing at the top but if that gets annoying just tell me pls. I'm also going to put this on Wattpad. I'm also going to come up with weird title because Y/n is the daughter of Wolfstar so I makes sense.
Warning(s): Dementors, screaming(?)
Pairing(s): Harry x Reader, Remus x Sirius
Navigation/Story Masterlist
Tumblr media
Clothes for this story: shirt ~ pants ~ shoes ~ jacket
"Here, this one is empty," Hermione says as the four of us walk through the Hogwarts Express, trying to find a seat.
"Good," Harry says as all of us step into the cabin. He closes the door, "I have something to tell you."
"What is it, Harry?" Hermione asks.
"You guys have heard of Sirius Black, right?" Harry questions.
"Yeah," Hermione, Ron, and I say simultaneously.
I know that Sirius is my dad but with everything that goes around about him, my other dad told me to never tell anyone that Sirius is my dad, or at least until I am out of Hogwarts. I feel like I know almost everything about him, my dad talks about him so often.
"Ron's dad told me that Black was the one who sold my parents to Voldemort. He said that he's broke out of Azkaban to kill me," Harry explains.
"Well, then we won't let that happen," I tell him.
"Thank you," Harry says to me and smiles.
I smile back, "You're welcome." I grab my Army green canvas sling bag that my dad gave me before I started my first year, and put a never-ending charm on it. I reach into the bag and grab my Discman. "Music?"
"Sure," Ron replies. I already had the Nevermind disc in it so I just pressed play. Smells Like Teen Spirit starts playing. The four of us talk about our summer while Nirvana plays in the background. After the album is finished I switch it to Metallica, and after that, to August and Everything After. Mr. Jones starts playing then the train comes to a sudden stop with a violent jolt. Everything gets cold, the window gets very frosty, and the lights go out. The music starts cutting out and then shuts off.
A hand grabs the door and pushes it open, a huge hooded creature appears in the doorway. Fear falls over me, it feels like I'll never be cheerful again. It goes to Harry, he starts shaking like he was having a seizure.
The creature hovers over to me, everything around me goes quiet, then that silence is filled with barely coherent screaming. The words become clearer it sounds like “NO! SIRIUS! HE’S INNOCENT! NO! I NEED HIM! SIRI!” Then everything goes black and silent again.
I don’t know how long I was out but when I woke up Harry was also waking up. Harry picks up his glasses off of the seat and we both sit up. I look up to see my father, Remus Lupin, kneeling in front of me.
"Are you all right, pup?" He asks while holding my face.
I nod, “Yeah, all right.”
Dad pulls me into a near bone-crushing hug, “I’m glad you’re all right.” He pulls away from the embrace and kissed my forehead.
Dad grabs some chocolate out of his pocket and hands Harry and me a piece of it, "Here, eat this. It'll help. It's alright, it's chocolate."
Harry sits upright and takes the piece of chocolate from my dad, "What was that thing?"
"A dementor," Dad explains, "one of the guards of Azkaban. It's gone now. They're searching the train for Sirius Black. Now if you'll excuse me I need to have a little word with the driver."
"Can I go with you?" I ask him as I finish the chocolate that he previously gave me.
"No I want you to stay here, please," He tells me then sets the rest of the chocolate on the seat between me and Harry
I nod, "Okay, dad."
Dad turns to Harry, "Eat, you'll feel better." He closes the door and then walks away.
"Y/n, what is your dad doing here?" Hermione asks.
"He is the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher," I tell her.
"That explains a lot," She states. "Who is your mom? If you don't mind me asking."
"Um..." I start but stop and think of how I am going to explain it. "Technically... that is my mom. He's trans and doesn't like being associated with feminine things very much, so he prefers me calling him dad rather than mom."
"Oh, who's your other dad?" She asks,
"It's not important," I answer.
"Oh, I didn't know. I'm sorry," She apologizes.
"It's alright," I say, "It doesn't matter, I can't even remember him, I haven't seen him in twelve years."
"That's even worse," Ron mutters.
"Well at least he's not dead," Harry says, "Or is he?"
"No, he's not dead," I respond.

Chapter 31
Under the Mistletoe
Natsu grinned to himself as he tacked the decoration just underneath the door frame to the bedroom. With its white berries, beautiful green leaves, and the red ribbon tied around the stems, he was sure it was going to bring a smile to Lucy’s face when she saw it. And if she somehow missed it, then he was more than happy to point it out to her since it meant stealing a kiss from her.
“Natsu? What’s that?” Lucy’s voice called out.
Turning around to face the girl, he gave her a grin. Grabbing her hand, he quickly pulled her close to him.
“Look up,” he said, planting his hands on her hips.
Lucy glanced up, her eyes landing on the mistletoe that hung over them. Her lips curled into a small smile, her cheeks tinted pink having been caught off-guard.
“Mistletoe? Where’d you get that?” she asked with a laugh.
“Borrowed it from Cana,” he answered, peering down at her with a toothy grin. “In her words, it was going to ‘get me laid.’ Figured I would test her theory out. So? Whatcha think?”
Lucy playfully rolled her eyes. “I think that we still have a lot more decorating to do before the others get here. But…” Leaning towards him, she pressed her lips against his in a chaste kiss. Pulling away, she smiled up at him. “It’d be breaking tradition if we didn’t kiss.”
Natsu watched as Lucy headed back to the living room to continue decorating for the Christmas party they were throwing. Lucy, wanting to be festive for the holiday, wore a skimpy Santa suit that Natsu couldn’t tear his eyes away from. Not only did it show a nice amount of cleavage, the dress was so short that it barely covered her bum. Another nice touch that spurred his desire was the white fluff that hemmed the edges, giving it a real Christmas vibe. She also wore white knee-high socks, which always brought his attention to her creamy legs. To top it all off, she wore a Santa hat.
Natsu’s pants felt tight just looking at her.
Following her out into the living room, he wrapped his arms around her from behind. He could tell that she felt him hard against her from the way she jumped.
“Can’t we just take a lil’ break and do something else?” Natsu asked. He brushed Lucy’s hair out of the way and softly nuzzled the shell of her ear. Her body melted into his as he ran his hands up her sides and over her breasts. He was about to slip his hands underneath the cloth when she jumped away from him.
“No, Natsu,” she said, narrowing her eyes at him. Her face was flushed with heat as she continued, “We can do that later but for now, we have to finish decorating. They’ll be here soon.”
Natsu huffed, crossing his arms with a pout. “Why are we celebrating over here anyways? It’d be easier to just meet them there. They already have a bunch of decorations up.”
“I don’t want to intrude during the holidays.”
“What do you mean? You aren’t intruding. You’ve been there tons of times by now!”
“I’ve only been there a few times, for your information. And I just don’t want to make anyone feel uncomfortable.”
“Who would feel uncomfortable with you coming?” Natsu asked, arching a brow.
“Well, Mira for one,” Lucy answered, her lips tugged into a small frown.
Natsu immediately understood, rubbing the back of his head. “Look, don’t take it personally. Mira’s just… different. It doesn’t have to do with you. She can’t really handle bein’ around mortals much. That’s why she’s the only one who turns down her chances of going to the outside world.”
“I know it’s nothing personal,” Lucy replied. “But it doesn’t matter. I’m not offended or anything by it. It’s just that she deserves to feel comfortable in her own home on Christmas. I’m okay with just having you guys over. And I’m okay with you going over there to celebrate too.”
Natsu frowned, uncomfortable with the thought of leaving Lucy alone for even a minute on Christmas. He promised her months ago that he would spend the day with her, how could he just leave?
“You know I don’t hafta go,” he said. “The others can go back without me. I’ll stay here with you.”
Lucy smiled and shook her head. “Thank you, Natsu. I appreciate that you’d do that for me, but you should go back later with them. I’m not the only person who wants to spend Christmas with you, and I’m not going to be that girlfriend who keeps her boyfriend away from his friends. It’ll just be for a couple of hours, so you’re going. And when you get back, we can exchange presents.”
Before he could argue, she grabbed some more decorations from the box, gave him a quick peck on the cheek, and went to hang  them up.
About ten minutes later, there was a knock at the door.
“Merry Christmas, Lucy!” the rest of the gang shouted the moment she opened the door.
Lucy beamed at them. “Merry Christmas, you guys! Thanks for coming over!”
As everyone headed inside, Lucy noticed that she wasn’t the only one dressed for the holidays. Juvia adorned a beautiful blue dress covered in snowflakes and sparkles, a little tiara resting on her head.
“Juvia is an ice princess,” the girl said when she noticed Lucy staring.
“You look beautiful, Juvia!” she replied. And it was true. The blue complimented her hair and fair skin perfectly. Her eyes moved over to Gray. He wore a top hat and some black jeans. As usual, he was without a shirt. “What’s up with the hat?”
“The guild always makes me dress as Frosty the Snowman on Christmas,” he replied, crossing his arms over his chest.
“So you wore a hat? Or was there more of the costume that you stripped away?”
“There was more, but they’re long gone by now.”
Lucy nodded, moving her gaze over to Erza and Jellal. While they weren’t fully dressed up like Juvia and herself, they wore cute reindeer headbands.
Levy, on the other hand, wore an adorable elf costume. It was red and green, which although contrasted her hair greatly, still managed to look amazing on her. Her leggings were striped in the same green and red, and her hat had a bell at the tip.
“You look so cute, Levy-chan!” Lucy gushed, wrapping the petite girl in a hug.
“You too, Lu-chan!” the girl replied.
Gajeel pushed past the two girls, allowing Lucy to see his costume. He was dressed in a Santa costume, his hair spray-dyed white. A scowl was plastered to his face as he grumbled, “Damn Shrimp, makin’ me dress up like this.”
As soon as he was out of earshot, Levy cupped her hand around her mouth and whispered to Lucy, “I didn’t make him dress up like that. He woke up hours before everyone else so that he could get ready.”
Lucy covered her mouth with her hands, trying to stifle her laughter. Just the thought of Gajeel happily getting ready to dress up as Santa Claus had her nearly hunched over in laughter.
“Your apartment is so festive, Lucy,” Erza’s voice called out to her.
“Thanks!” she replied, her smile as bright as the lit-up Christmas tree she had Natsu put in the corner of the living room. Lights were strewn across the ceiling, decorations were tacked to the wall, and she even woke up early in the morning to bake Christmas cupcakes. To say she loved Christmas was an understatement. She hadn’t been able to really celebrate the holiday in a long time, so now she was going all out.
“Can we open presents already!?” Natsu asked, bouncing excitedly in his seat.
“We just got here, idiot,” Gray said, rolling his eyes.
Erza chimed in, “I agree with Natsu. We should open presents now.” Even though she kept a straight face and was still in her seat unlike Natsu, the twinkle in her eye made it obvious she was looking forward to presents just as much as he was.
“Presents it is then,” Lucy said with a laugh. Everyone sat in the living room, presents sitting in their laps. With how big their group was, they decided to do a secret Santa exchange to save money. “Who goes first?”
“I will!” Erza exclaimed, a bright grin settling over her face. “Whoever got me, step forward!”
Lucy stood from the couch. “That would be me!” Handing Erza the gift, she watched as the redhead tore away the wrapping paper in an instant, revealing a rectangular box. Lucy watched anxiously as Erza removed the tape from the box’s sides. She may not have known Erza long, but she thought she knew her well enough. Though the redhead tried to hide it, there was a girly side to her.
Erza opened the box, pulling out a violet dress. It was made of silk and was long enough to reach the floor. The sides were slit to reveal her legs, giving it a sexier feel.
“This dress is gorgeous, Lucy!” Erza said in awe. She grabbed the tag, her eyes bugging out of her head as she read the label. “HK!? This must’ve cost a fortune!”
“It wasn’t too bad,” Lucy replied, waving her off. Though in truth, that dress alone cost most of her allowance. Still, it was worth it to see her friend smile.
Erza stood from the couch, holding her arms out in front of her for a hug. Lucy winced, knowing how rough the redhead could be. Knowing it was rude to turn it down, Lucy went in for a hug, praying that she wouldn’t bruise from it. Sure enough, Erza smashed her head down on her chest in what only she would call a hug.
“Thank you, Lucy!” Erza said.
“D-Don’t mention it,” she replied. She sat back down on the couch, her head dizzy.
“Her hugs hurt, huh?” Natsu whispered in her ear.
“So badly,” Lucy replied with a nod. She then watched as Erza handed Juvia a small box. The wrapping paper was crinkled, and looking closely, Lucy could see that there were some extra scraps taped on, probably because she ripped the bottom layer.
Gently tearing the wrapping paper away, Juvia opened the box to find four slips of paper. Confused, she picked them up and read the words printed on them. Immediately, a bright smile graced her face.
“Oh, thank you, Erza!” she exclaimed.
“Wait, what is it?” Levy asked, unable to see what they were from where she sat.
Juvia held up the slips of paper. “They’re two train tickets to Crocus and to the Crocus Garden!”
“No way!” Lucy shouted. “I heard that they have a rainbow sakura tree over there! I’ve always wanted to go!”
“Well, the extra ticket was meant for Gray, but I suppose you could bring Lucy instead,” Erza said with a shrug.
Lucy laughed at the panic that washed over Juvia’s face. “Don’t worry, Juvia. You don’t have to bring me. It sounds like a fun date for you and Gray!”
The blue-headed girl heaved a sigh of relief.
Natsu nudged her lightly.
“I didn’t know you wanted to go there,” he said.
Lucy smiled at him. “Yeah. I’ve never been to Crocus before. I would love to see the rainbow sakura tree someday.”
“Then I’ll take ya there!”
“The train ride is over six hours long. I don’t think you’d last, Natsu.”
The boy glared at her, crossing his arms with a huff. “If you wanna go there, then I don’t care how long the train ride is. We’re going!”
Lucy giggled at his pouty face, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “Thank you, Natsu. I’m looking forward to it.”
Turning her attention back on Juvia, she watched the girl hand Gajeel his gift. It was kept in a tiny gift bag, small enough to make Lucy wonder what could possibly fit in it. Reaching inside, Gajeel pulled out what looked like a receipt. His eyes scanned the printed words before his eyes grew wide.
“No fucking way,” he said, whipping his head towards Juvia.
The girl nodded quickly, her smile wide. “Yep! Juvia bought you an electric guitar! Juvia left it back home though because it was too hard to wrap.”
Lucy’s jaw dropped on its hinges. An electric guitar? That blew the cost of the designer dress she bought Erza out of the water! How Juvia could afford to even buy it, she didn’t know.
She watched as Gajeel- the boy who was usually a snarky hardass- turned into a weeping mess as he thanked Juvia and showed Levy the receipt.
Lucy was surprised that Juvia would spend so much money for someone that wasn’t Gray, but after hearing from Natsu that the two were best friends since before even joining Fairy Tail, she couldn’t say she was too surprised. They must’ve known each other for decades- hell, depending on how old they were, maybe even centuries. He always stood up for her when people made fun of her for speaking in third person, and she was the one that dragged him from heading down a dark path and into Fairy Tail. Their friendship was strong, and Lucy admired that.
Lucy was brought from her thoughts when she heard Gajeel and Natsu arguing. Apparently Natsu was teasing Gajeel for crying. Before a fight could break out, Lucy and Levy forced their boyfriends to sit down by pulling on their ears.
Gajeel grumbled to himself before handing Jellal his present.
Jellal’s brows rose. “You didn’t have to buy me a Christmas present. You just bought me a birthday present a few weeks ago.”
“Yeah, yeah. You say that every year. You should know by now that people are still gonna get you a Christmas present,” Gajeel replied, rolling his eyes.
Jellal smiled before ripping away the wrapping paper. Inside was a leatherback journal along with a calligraphy set.
“I know Erza retrieved your old research journal from a museum or whatever, but I figured you could use a new one. And Shrimp here told me that you like to do calligraphy too.”
“I do. Thank you, Gajeel. It’s very thoughtful.”
“Yeah, whatever.”
Lucy chuckled. “What a tsundere.”
Gajeel turned red in the face. “Shut up!”
Jellal grabbed a perfectly wrapped gift- much different than the gift his wife had wrapped- and handed it to Natsu. The pink-haired boy lit up like the Christmas tree, snatching it with a quick word of thanks before ripping into it like his life had depended on it. He uncovered a box full of different snacks, hot sauces from all over the world, and gift cards to fast food chains.
“I truly did not know what else to get you besides food,” Jellal admitted. “After you caught the basement on fire with the pyrotechnics kit I bought you, I was prohibited from making that mistake again.”
Natsu grinned, grabbing a bag of chips and tearing into it. “Hey, this works for me!” Grabbing the wrapped gift at his ankle, he tossed it to Levy. “Oi, catch!”
Levy squealed, fumbling as she just barely caught the present. “I’m assuming this isn’t fragile.”
“Nope. But it did cost an arm and a leg to get it, so you better be glad!”
Levy perked a brow before opening the present. Inside the box was a stack of papers, stapled at the top. Her eyes scanned the words, confused as to what it could’ve been.
“What is it?” she asked. It appeared to be a story, though there was no covering to it.
“It’s a Heartfilia original!”
Levy’s eyes nearly burst out of their sockets. She whipped her head between Natsu and Lucy, the latter blushing.
“Lu-chan wrote this?”
The blonde nodded. “It’s the very first story I’ve written. I started that way back during my first lifetime and I recently finished it. When I told Natsu about it, he said that he wanted to give it to you for Christmas. You’ll officially be my first reader, just like I promised!”
Levy burst into a fit of tears before tackling Natsu and Lucy to the ground. “I’ve been waiting for this day for forever! Thanks, you guys!”
Natsu laughed. “Don’t mention it!”
“And don’t show it to people either! It’s embarrassing!” Lucy added.
Levy nodded, eager to read the story when Gajeel reminded her they were still in the process of Secret Santa.
“Oh, right. Here you go, Gray!”
The boy thanked her as he accepted the gift. It was in a small gift bag. Reaching his hand in, he pulled out two slips of paper.
“H-Holy shit!” he shouted. “These are concert tickets to see Lyra! They’re my favorite band!”
Natsu stood up, grabbing a ticket to see it himself. “No way! You gotta give me the extra ticket!”
“Why the hell would I wanna see a concert with you!?”
“Not like I wanna see one with you either, but I love Lyra too!”
“You can give the extra ticket to whoever you want,” Levy said with a shrug. Truthfully she wanted Secret Santa to end as quickly as possible so she could hurry up and read Lucy’s story. “Anyways, you’re next, Gray!”
Gray handed Juvia the tickets for safekeeping- mainly to make sure Natsu didn’t steal one. He stood up and headed towards Lucy, the last person left in Secret Santa.
“I got you, Lucy,” he said, his lips curled into a small smile.
She mirrored his expression, accepting the gift. She assumed he wasn’t good at wrapping since it was in a bag. When she reached inside the bag, she realized that he didn’t even use tissue paper to hide the present.
Her fingers brushed against something smooth. Grabbing the object carefully, she pulled it out of the bag. It was a beautiful wooden box, its edges intricately carved. The top was painted a stunning starry landscape. She went to open the box, only to find a heart-shaped lock keeping it shut.
“The key is in the bag too,” Gray said, noticing her confusion.
She fished inside the gift bag for the key, inserting it into the lock and opening the box. The inside was lined with velvet, and the top had a small mirror glued to it. Lined pads were in the box, clueing Lucy into what the box was.
“It’s a jewelry box,” Gray said, shoving his hands in his pockets. “I made it myself.” Smiling over at his girlfriend, he added, “Juvia painted the top though.”
“Thank you, Gray!” Lucy exclaimed, jumping up from the couch and hugging the boy. “It’s beautiful! I can’t believe you made it yourself!”
“Don’t mention it. I figured it’d be better than leaving your locket in a tampon box. That’s what the lock is for. Now you can keep it somewhere clean and safe.”
Tears pricked Lucy’s eyes. He made it so that she can hide her locket? Throwing her arms around the boy, she thanked him again, all the while wondering how she managed to find such great friends. She also made sure to thank Juvia for the beautiful painting she did on the box.
As the group split up into pairs to gush over their presents, Lucy excused herself to go to the restroom. When she was finished, she was surprised to find Natsu waiting outside the door.
“What are you doing?” the girl asked. She had known him long enough to recognize that mischievous glint in his eyes.
Instead of replying, the boy simply pointed up. Following his finger, Lucy found mistletoe taped in the doorway of the bathroom, hanging above them. Natsu’s hand slid up her thigh below her skirt.
“Are you crazy?” Lucy whispered, peering over his shoulder to make sure nobody was coming. “Everyone is here right now! We could get caught!”
“Good luck being quiet then,” Natsu replied with an evil grin. He slid his hand up to her rear, giving it a squeeze. Pushing her hair out of the way, he sank his lips over her neck.
Lucy gnawed on her lower lip in hopes of staying quiet. “You know, a mistletoe is just for a quick kiss on the lips, not this.”
Natsu shrugged, continuing his exploration of her neck. His hands slowly grazed her curves until brushing against the side of her breasts. Before he could grab them, Lucy reluctantly pulled away from him with a glare.
“Not while our friends are here!” she said, smoothing out her dress. She lightly smacked his hand away when he tried to reach out to her again. Sticking her tongue out at him playfully, she scurried off to join the rest of their friends back in the living room. Natsu chuckled before following after her.
Eventually, the group cleaned up the apartment as it was time to head back to Fairy Tail for the next Christmas party.
“Are you sure you don’t wanna join us, Lucy?” Gray asked.
Lucy nodded, faking a yawn. “Yeah, I’m a bit tired now. But I’ll see you guys tomorrow!” The only person she told about the real reason she didn’t want to go to Fairy Tail was Natsu. She didn’t want the others to worry and try to reassure her. She was fine with them going to celebrate with the rest of the immortals. She was happy enough with the time she got to spend with them.
The group nodded, saying their last goodbyes before heading out the door. Natsu stayed behind.
“Are you really sure about this?” he asked. He still hated the thought of leaving her by herself on Christmas.
Lucy smiled. “Yes, Natsu. I’m fine, I promise.”
“We can just stay in my room the whole time if you’re that worried about Mira!”
“No. I want you to be able to celebrate with everyone. And I’m sure they’re looking forward to celebrating with you too. I’m fine, Natsu. Now shoo.”
Natsu sighed in defeat. “Alright, but I’m coming right back here later tonight, okay? And if you change your mind, let me know and I’ll come walk you to Fairy Tail. Or if you get lonely I can come here.”
“Yeah, yeah, I understand. Now go. You’re already late enough as it is.”
Natsu gave her a quick kiss. “I’ll see you later.”
Before he could change his mind, Lucy waved and quickly shut the door, locking it so he knew she was serious about wanting him to have fun with everyone else. Staring at her empty apartment, admittedly the girl did feel a pinch of loneliness. Regardless, this was the best Christmas she’d had since her first life, she could deal with a couple of hours on her own. Grabbing a cup of hot chocolate, she curled up in a thick blanket and turned on a Christmas movie. The loneliness she felt quickly faded away.
Natsu cheered with the rest of the immortals, clinking his glass of spiked eggnog with everyone else. They had just finished the annual Fairy Tail Secret Santa. For this Secret Santa, he was assigned Cana, who was by far one of the easiest people to shop for. Give the girl a bottle of booze and she’s indebted to you for life.
He had also gotten a gift from Juvia, who was his Secret Santa. It was a hoodie from his favorite band, along with their newest CD. He still had to give Lucy her gifts later, and was eager to see what she got him as well. This year was shaping up to be the best Christmas ever.
When the party died down and people started heading to their rooms, Natsu decided that it was time to head back to Lucy’s. He went to his room to grab the gift he kept stashed away so that she wouldn’t find it.
“You heading over to Lucy’s now?” Gray asked after entering their room.
“Yep. Just had to get her present first.”
“So, what’s the real reason she didn’t want to come over here? She wasn’t really tired, right? Is she still feeling nervous around everyone?”
“Kinda,” Natsu answered, rubbing the back of his head. “Truthfully it’s just Mira.”
Gray winced. “Oh. Yeah, that makes sense.”
Mira was a nice girl, one of the nicest he had ever known. Unfortunately, her past with the mortals was the most traumatizing story he had ever heard. It was one that everyone knew not to ever bring up, for they knew the girl was haunted by it everyday. Nobody could blame her for keeping her guard up around Lucy, nor could they blame her for being the only immortal to turn down a chance at seeing the outside world.
“Yeah. I told Lucy that it wasn’t personal and that Mira was a bit different than the rest of us, but she still decided to stay home. She didn’t want Mira feeling uncomfortable on Christmas.”
Gray smiled. “Lucy’s a really nice girl, huh.”
“Yep,” Natsu replied with a grin of his own. “Anyways, I’m out of here.”
With hurried steps, the boy rushed up the stairs of the basement and out the door. He made sure to lock the doors to the pub behind him since the immortals were free to roam the top floor on Christmas.
Excited to see Lucy and still feeling guilty for leaving her, Natsu wasted no time in unlocking the door and closing it behind him. What he saw when he turned around made his jaw drop to the floor.
There in the living room stood Lucy, practically naked. She still adorned the Santa hat she wore earlier, but she had discarded the dress. Instead, she had a Christmas bow taped to the middle of her collarbone, the ends flowing and covering her nipples. She also wore red underwear with white trimming on the edges.
“Welcome back,” Lucy said, her hands behind her back.
“How long were you waiting there like that?” Natsu asked, nearly choking on his tongue while he ogled her.
“Not too long.” Lucy lifted her arm above her head, revealing a mistletoe in her hand. “Well? Are you going to join me?”
Natsu nodded his head so fast it felt like it was going to fall off. He ripped off his pants and rushed towards her, nearly tripping in his haste. Grabbing her by the hips, he crashed his lips upon hers.
“I take it this is my Christmas present?” he asked with a grin, lightly tugging the end of the bow that was taped to her.
   “Yep. Wanna unwrap me?”
Natsu’s hands eagerly ripped the bow off of her before carrying her to the bed. Dropping her on the bed, he quickly tore off his shirt. Lucy squirmed below him, anticipation filling her fingertips as she tugged on his boxers. Without wasting another second, he took them off along with hers.
“You are so hot, Lucy,” Natsu said as he pressed his face between her breasts. He always enjoyed the feeling of being between them.
“Oh yeah?” Lucy replied with a smile. His praise always managed to turn her on.
“Mhmm. I mean, you were practically naked when I got here.”
“Because I’ve been looking forward to this all day. Now, are you going to get me off or am I going to have to do it myself?”
Natsu grinned before grabbing her breast in one hand while nuzzling the other. He could feel Lucy moving below him, trying to guide his cock to her folds. In his haze, he remembered the last time they had sex.
“That’s right, I have to repay you for last time,” Natsu said.
“Hmm?” Lucy absentmindedly hummed out, too focused on the work he was doing on her breasts.
Instead of using his words to explain, Natsu trailed kisses from her breasts down to her navel, then to her thighs. He left feather-light kisses over right thigh, hovering over her folds before moving to her left. He stifled a laugh as he could feel Lucy getting impatient every time he neared her folds. Unable to hold himself back for too long, he pressed his lips against her flesh, slowly sucking on her skin.
Lucy nearly screamed at the sudden pleasure that raked her body the moment Natsu’s lips touched her sensitive skin. Her breaths grew louder as his lips worked over her. When his tongue suddenly grazed her clitoris, she let out a harsh breath.
“Fuck,” she said, covering her mouth with one hand while the other gripped the sheets.
Natsu glanced up at her with a proud grin. Grabbing her wrist, he pinned it to her side.
“I wanna hear you,” he said before returning his lips to her flesh. His tongue circled around her entrance before delving into her. Since he stopped her from covering her mouth, she opted for grabbing his hair instead, finding that she had to do something with her hands. His mouth was driving her crazy.
“N-Natsu,” she breathed out. “I’m not going to last long at this rate.”
“That’s fine,” he replied, his breath warm against her flesh. It sent a shiver down her spine. “I want to make you cum like this anyways.”
Not bothering to wait for her reply, he dragged his tongue over her clitoris before giving it a hard kiss. Lucy screamed out in pleasure, thrusting her hips and grinding his face. Switching from kissing and licking, he knew that Lucy was about to break, judging from her quick breaths and the way her legs shook around his neck. In seconds, she shuddered against him, her grip tightening on his hair as she moaned out his name.
When it was clear she was done, Natsu laid beside her with a grin.
“Well? How was it?” he asked. Though, he could tell from her flushed cheeks that it was more than good.
Lucy tried to regain her breath as she replied, “We’re definitely doing that again sometime.”
   “Sounds good to me.”
“Well, it’s your turn now!” Lucy exclaimed, sitting up. She positioned herself between his legs, stroking his hot shaft.
Taking a quick peek at him, she found his eyes squeezed shut as he enjoyed himself. Not wanting to keep him waiting, Lucy dragged her tongue against his cock before shoving it in her mouth. She started slow, still not used to this yet. When she started to feel more comfortable, she pushed herself further, allowing his whole shaft into her mouth.
   “Fuck, Lucy,” Natsu ground out.
Knowing that he enjoyed it, Lucy picked up the pace while still going as far as she could. Tears pricked her eyes, but she ignored it in favor of pleasuring him the way he did for her.
Natsu tried to control his breathing, but the way Lucy’s hot mouth tugged on his cock had him nearing sweet release.
“L-Lucy, I’m about to cum,” he warned.
The blonde only nodded. That only made the fire in Natsu burn hotter.
Lucy, feeling adventurous, decided she wanted to try something new. Something that she had read about in a mature book once.
Instead of shoving his cock as far as she could in her mouth, she went halfway down his shaft. Using her hand, she pumped the lower half while sucking the top.
In seconds, Lucy felt something hot shoot into her mouth as Natsu shook beneath her with a groan. She allowed him to ride out his orgasm before eventually withdrawing. Not knowing what to do with the liquid in her mouth, she quickly gulped it down.
Natsu winced. “Sorry, was it gross?”
Lucy shook her head. “Not at all, no need to apologize. I wanted to do it.”
Natsu smiled. The two laid there in a content silence, their bodies tired. When they finally regained their energy, Lucy stood up from the bed and grabbed something from the closet. Turning around, she smiled while holding a neatly wrapped gift.
“You got me a gift?” Natsu asked, his voice laced with childlike excitement.
“Duh! You didn’t really think sex was your only gift, right?” Handing him the gift, she watched as he tore off the wrapping paper and quickly opened the box to reveal a painting of him and Igneel.
Natsu looked up at Lucy with watery eyes. “W-What… How did you do this?”
“I commissioned an artist to paint it for me,” she answered. “I noticed that the picture you have of you and Igneel was old and a little torn, probably because of how much time had passed since it was printed. I didn’t want it to get ruined since it’s your only picture with Igneel, so I had someone recreate it. A canvas is more durable than a picture, so hopefully it’ll-!”
Lucy’s words were cut short as Natsu pulled her in for a tight hug. She could feel the light tremors of his body. Smiling, she wrapped her arms around him and allowed him to cry onto her shoulder.
“Do you like it?” she asked.
Natsu pulled away, wiping his eyes before smiling at her. “I love it. Thanks, Lucy. Oh, I got you a gift too.” Grabbing his previously discarded sweater, he pulled out a long, velvet box from the pocket. “Sorry, I didn’t have time to wrap it. And it’s not as good as the gift you gave me…”
Lucy lifted his chin to meet his gaze. “I’ll love it. Don’t worry. Can I see what it is?”
Natsu nodded, handing her the box and watching as she opened it. Upon doing so, Lucy gasped, one of her hands flying up to her mouth. Inside the box was a beautiful necklace with dangling diamond charms of constellations.
“Natsu, it’s beautiful!” she exclaimed. She gave him a worried look. “This must have cost a fortune!”
The boy shrugged with a laugh. “Don’t worry about that. My housing and tuition is free, so I have a good amount of money saved up. You like it?”
Lucy nodded, wiping a tear from her eye. She had never received a Christmas gift from a boyfriend before, and his knocked it out of the park.
“Of course I do! It’s beautiful! Thank you so much, Natsu!”
“I’m sorry mine isn’t as sentimental as yours. I probably should’ve put more thought into it. I just know you really like stars, so I wanted to get you something related to that.”
Lucy grabbed his hand with a smile. “Do you know why I love the stars?” After he shook his head, she continued, “It’s because of my first mother. We used to stargaze every night, and she taught me about a bunch of constellations, all of them being on this necklace. This necklace is plenty sentimental. Thank you, Natsu. I love it so much.”
   They hugged again.
   “Merry Christmas, Lucy.”
   “Merry Christmas, Natsu.”

OTP Prompts for Jemily
🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Who kills the bugs?
JJ (she grew up in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania, she’s not scared of any sort of bug)
Emily doesn’t deal with creatures with more than four legs, so if she sees an insect, or lord forbid, a spider, she’ll immediately climb off the floor and call for her girlfriend
JJ can never find it in herself to purposely kill the insects (she’s also not too keen on having to clean bug guts from her carpet), so she’ll grab a clear plastic cup with whatever book or piece of paper is laying around and use those to put the bug outside
(If it’s a wolf spider, she’ll literally pick it up with her bare hands, much to Emily’s horror)
If the spider is a brown recluse or black widow, she’ll bring the covered arachnid closer and take the time to show her boys and Emily what markings to look out for so that they know to be careful
The only insect she refuses to deal with are stink bugs
When they come around, she and Emily take an emergency trip to the nearby Target and buy enough of the raspberry gel air fresheners for every one of their windows
Yeah, their house smells like a Jolly Rancher for the entire month
But at least they don’t have to deal with the annoying beetles
Who always gets hot? Who always gets cold?
Neither of them gets hot, but Emily is perpetually cold
The rest of the team will be in the field in pants and short sleeves while Emily is bundled in her turtlenecks and jacket
Even in 90+ weather, Emily can sit comfortably in long sleeve shirts and pants
At first, JJ is surprised by how cold Emily can get
She wakes up one day to find Emily bundled under the covers and shivering
Of course, she’s alarmed and asking what’s wrong, only getting confused when Emily says she’s fine, just cold
“Em, it’s 76° outside.” “That’s practically freezing!”
JJ starts giving Emily her sweaters and sweatshirts for her to wear
Emily loves them so much because they fit her just the way she likes and they smell like her girlfriend
Who’s the big spoon? Who’s the little spoon?
Everyone on the team hands down swears Emily’s the big spoon
It’s not only because she’s taller than JJ, but Penelope says she gives big spoon vibes
(Actually, she says Emily gives huge top vibes and that makes her the big spoon by default)
JJ lets the team think whatever they want because she’s the only one that really knows Emily Prentiss is the ultimate little spoon
She can’t help it!! She loves the feeling of being wrapped up in JJ’s arms
And loves getting her hair played with while she rests her head on JJ’s chest
She’s!! Soft!! When!! It!! Comes!! To!! Jennifer!! Jareau!!
When did they realize they loved each other?
For JJ, she realized in the aftermath of the Tobias Hankel case
She suffered from horrific nightmares for weeks and never got enough sleep
Emily comes over every night for three weeks and holds JJ in her arms and comforts her when she wakes up screaming from her nightmares
JJ realizes she’s in love with Emily one night after she’s calmed down from yet another nightmare
She’s laying there in Emily’s arms, emotionally drained and exhausted and she just peers up at Emily and... knows
No one had ever cared for her like this, no one had ever made her feel so calm, so safe in years.
Emily does.
Emily makes her feel like no one has before, like she’s the only person to ever exist and matter.
JJ feels as if Emily’s arms is where she’s meant to spend her life
She doesn’t know it then, but that was the moment she fell in love with Emily. And she fell hard.
Emily knew almost right away tbh
It’s only a few weeks after she joins the BAU and everyone else had gone home except for herself and JJ
She goes into JJ’s office to keep her company
They spend the next few hours organizing files (Emily insists on helping because JJ looks really stressed and overwhelmed)
They don’t get a lot of work done honestly, they sit and talk with each other over mugs of steaming chamomile tea
Emily looks across the desk at JJ as she finishes a story and is rendered speechless by how beautiful the blonde is and how perfect she is and how everything about her makes Emily feel as if nothing else matters
She’s overwhelmed with her own emtion and just knows, knows, at that moment she’s well and truly fucked because she’s in love
Who said “I love you” first?
Emily does but it’s spontaneous and out of the blue
The whole team is hanging out at Rossi’s house
Everyone is laughing and having a good time
Emily and JJ are attempting to dance to the music playing over the speakers but they’re both hilariously uncoordinated
(They’ve also both had a couple of glasses of wine at this point, making their efforts even more comical)
Spencer and Hotch are playing a game of blackjack
Derek is half paying attention to the game on tv, half swaying to the music and doing weird dances when Penelope looks at him to make her laugh
Penelope is recording different parts of the night for the memories
Rossi sits back and watches over his children with a content smile
JJ stumbles into Emily’s arms with a giggle
Emily laughs and wraps her arms around the her blonde and just goes “God, do I love you.”
You can hear a pin drop with how quiet everyone becomes
Emily opens her mouth to apologize, to weakly defend herself when JJ grins up at her “Do you mean it?”
Emily’s response is a small, shy smile
“Say it again.”
Emily then leans in and gives JJ a light kiss and says more genuinely “I love you.”
JJ beams up at her and repeats the words, wrapping her arms around Emily’s neck and pulls her down for a deep kiss
(The team all give out a celebratory whoop at the couple’s expense and Penelope cries because she’s so happy for her friends)
(She sends the video to the two later on for them to have)
(It’s their most treasured memory)
Who demands cuddles?
When sober? Emily
Emily Prentiss loves a good cuddle
And, hey, after a day of dealing with the horrors they experience daily, a cuddle is what they both need and deserve
Drunk JJ is clingy as hell and will literally pout up at Emily until the older woman cuddles her
It doesn’t matter where they are
If they are in the middle of Wendy’s, drunk JJ will pout to her heart’s desire until she gets her cuddles (and a vanilla frosty, but that’s besides the point)
Drunk JJ actually demands cuddles
Who is more prone to stealing the other’s clothes?
While JJ gives Emily her clothes to wear, she is 100% the one that steals Emily’s clothes
She steals Emily’s hoodies all the time
If she can’t find something to wear for work in her side of the closet, she’ll steal a shirt from Emily’s
She also loves to steal Emily’s pantsuits and wear those to work sometimes
They’re so much more comfortable than skirts
And Emily loves to see her in them, so that’s a bonus
(She also steals Emily’s flannels before they go out for dates)
She just loves wearing Emily’s clothes as much as Emily loves to wear her’s
When do they tell their team/their families about their relationship? What are their reactions?
They decide to tell the team after five months that they’ve been dating
They want them to know because the team is like their secondary family
(And they also want to be able to publically be with each other when the team get together at Rossi’s)
(JJ just wants to hold Emily’s hand and give her girlfriend a kiss whenever she wants god dammit!)
To both of their relief, the team’s response is overwhelmingly positive
No one is surprised when they confirm to the team they’re dating
Hotch and Rossi are just like “we knew it”
Penelope has to remind both of them that she already knew because JJ had given Emily a kiss a few weeks ago during girl’s night (Penelope can keep a secret if she really wants to)
Spencer is confused because “Wait, you mean you guys have only just recently become a thing? You haven’t been dating for the past year and a half?”
Derek is just like “Well it’s about fucking time”
JJ takes Emily with her when she takes a weekend trip to take her boys home to visit her mom
She really wants Emily to formally meet her mom (“I know you already met her, but I want her to meet you as my girlfriend!”)
Though initially slightly surprised by JJ introducing Emily as her girlfriend, the blonde’s mother welcomes Emily with open arms
She’s never seen JJ this happy in years and it warms her heart to see her daughter in good hands
(“And she’s really good with the kids,” JJ’s mother tells her daughter later on in the night as the two watch Emily and the boys out in the backyard)
JJ just smiles warmly in response, relieved by her mother’s response
Ambassador Prentiss comes over to Emily’s apartment unannounced while JJ and the boys are having a family movie night
It’s awkward as hell tbh
Emily’s too formal and on edge
JJ longs to go over and place a hand on Emily’s arm for comfort, but stays put under the Ambassador’s steely gaze
(Michael and Henry are blissfully unaware, sucked too far into the animated universe of Spider-Man)
Finally, the Ambassador turns to Emily and asks if she’s happy
Emily turns back to JJ and the boys with a soft gaze before turning back to her mother and giving a light nod “Yeah. I am.”
“Then that’s all that matters.”
All the tension falls from Emily’s shoulders and the biggest breath of relief leaves her lips at that
It’s the most approval she’s gotten from her mother in a long time but it means so much
What is their favorite way to show affection?
Emily likes to wrap her arms around JJ’s waist from behind
She loves to sneak up behind her when she’s cooking and gently grab her waist and press a light kiss against her neck before laying her chin on the blonde’s shoulder and watching her cook
She’ll slide behind JJ on the couch and kiss her temple before they cuddle and watch tv
She’ll randomly stop by and just wrap JJ in a soft, warm hug, gently swaying her from side to side before letting her go and going about her day like normal
JJ loves giving Emily sweet kisses on her forehead or her cheek
She wakes up before Emily and will sometimes be unable to help herself and just lean down and press a series of light kisses on the brunette’s nose or forehead
She’ll sometimes stop by Emily’s office during work and just plant a kiss on the crown of her head before heading back to her reports
When they go on long trips, who drives?
JJ!!
She loves to drive but hardly ever gets to
At work, Emily or one of the boys are the ones driving the SUVs
(And, yeah, maybe she got to drive the SUV when Kate was on the team, but still)
Even running errands like going to the store or picking up the boys, it’s Emily that drives
But Emily hates to drive long distances and often leaves that task to JJ
JJ loves it
Emily will lean her head on her shoulder or place her hand over the blonde’s on the gear shift
It’s so blissfully domestic and soft and makes the drive that much better
Who shows more affection to the other in public?
JJ easily
Emily is a firm believer that she has a hardass reputation to uphold
It takes all of JJ’s will power not to snort
Because, honestly, Emily is really just a big softie
But she’ll let Emily think what she wants
She’s the one that initiates hand holding on the jet when they’re going to a case and cuddles on the way home from one
She just wants to love her girlfriend anywhere and at anytime!
If she wants to give Emily a kiss in the middle of the bullpen (when it’s slow and the atmosphere isn’t as tense or serious as it normally is, of course), she will god dammit!!
(Emily’s light blush never does any good to help uphold her “hardass reputation” but oh well)
Who gives piggy back rides the most?
JJ gives the piggy back rides, Emily always gets them
JJ holds her as if she weighs nothing and it makes her swoon
JJ’s arms? A definite weakness for Emily
(Plus she never got to have piggy back rides as a child and JJ insists on making up for lost time so how can Emily refuse with an offer like that?)
Who proposes first? How and when?
Okay so I’m a firm believer that they’re both spontaneous as hell when it comes to this kind of thing
It’s literally just a matter of who lets their guard down first and let the question slip out first
If it’s JJ, it’s when she comes down one morning to see Emily and the boys making her breakfast
She just stops and leans in the doorway, smiling to herself as her girlfriend instructs her sons what do do
Emily is so patient with them
She helps Michael crack the eggs into a bowl and then kisses his nose, which makes him squeal in delight and her to grin
Henry stirs the batter for waffles and gets flour on his glasses and face
Emily leans over and gently cleans him off, grinning and laughing in surprise when the young boy gets batter on her nose
The three of them are just laughing and genuinely having a good time and, god, it makes JJ’s heart feel so full
When they finally notice JJ in the doorway, the boys run up and give her good morning kisses before going back to cooking breakfast
When JJ and Emily are alone and cleaning up the kitchen, Emily just wraps her arms around JJ’s waist and gives her the softest of kisses
The “marry me?” slips from JJ’s lips without much thought
And Emily, though initially surprised, just beams in response and gives her girlfriend (fiancé?) a deep, passionate kiss and just goes “just let me know the date to reserve, baby”
If it’s Emily, it happens in a very soft, very intimate moment between the two of them
They’ll be laying in bed at midnight, cuddled naked under the covers with no space between them
Emily leans over and brushes her fingers through JJ’s long hair, her heart fluttering wildly when the blonde looks up at her
Her eyes are full of so much love, her expression so soft and adoring, Emily can’t help but to whisper out “marry me?” into the room
She goes to maybe to start a speech about their relationship, how much it means to her and how much she wants to be a part of JJ’s and the boys’ lives but all that comes out is “I just... I really, really love you and want to be a part of your life permanently.”
Just like the first time they admitted they loved each other, JJ beams and leans in, pressing a chaste kiss to Emily’s lips before telling her to say it again
Emily presses a kiss to JJ’s chin and asks again so softly “marry me?”
JJ pulls her in for a long, deep kiss
“I’d marry you as soon as tomorrow if you wanted me to.”

Not all endings end the same
A Jelsa one-shot story
Tumblr media
I hope she can receive my message on time. I hope it reached her. She is the only person who knew me more than I, even through my delicate snowflakes. She can feel it, she can read it, and can listen to its frosty rhythm. However, I cannot stop this. If this is my end, then it means I succeeded.
.....
"No, this can't be... This is not the ending you deserve," the lady whispered to herself as she sees a familiar snowflake while walking in the woods. She already knew that someone is calling her... so gentle, yet, so cold. She knew that cold never bothered her, and this is something that bothered her.
She sensed it... But can she accept it?

Her body immediately responded to her rushing emotions, and suddenly asked the snowflake in front of her, "Take me to the place where you belong." It started to fly back towards an empty, secluded, serene place a top of the forest where the sun rises first that is beautifully reflected by the calm shore, as always.
A place that only knew by two people.
She reaches him at the right time. Luckily, the message has been delivered. She didn't notice that the snowflake slowly dwindling as the lady continuously approaching him.
She's breathing deep, her heart's pumping irregularly, her emotions wanting to burst out, her thoughts being chaotic...
"Jack... Jack... Jack..."
Tumblr media
"You found me. I'm glad." He placed a smile on his face, hoping that he can hide all his griefs from her even if he knew that he is terrible at hiding, especially to her lady.
"Jack, you don't need to hide your real feelings in front of me."
"You're really such a good reader, huh."
"Jack, if you are trying to make me feel relieve, okay, it works. But, you know that you're slowly fading away."
"I'm not."
"Yes, you are."
Jack doesn't mind if this is the end for him, at least, he is aware of his fate. He doesn't mind if he's seeing his flurries. He doesn't mind if he is vanishing little-by-little. What matters for him is giving his last power to collect his flurry of snow on a thing that he knew can last forever for her.
Yes, she knows that my time is unreasonable...
She feels how unfair it is...
She realizes how various it is...
Tumblr media
Even if I contradict your words, honestly, I can't win.
Even if I hide my griefs and emotions, still, you can read me.
You were there, staring blankly at me, yet, I can see my reflection on your glimmering eyes. I can also sense the tension flowing through your veins.
All I wish I can move nearly to you, comfort you, or hug you just to ease your pain.
I don't wish you to accept this fate of mine, I only wish you to accept yours, the aftermath.
I know your pain and struggles, yet, I also know your strengths and hopes.
.....
"Elsa, do you still remember the time you asked me what thing I'll be if it is possible to shapeshift?" Jack asked merrily like nothing serious happening.
"Yes, of course, how can I forget it if that is the craziest question you asked me to think of. " She conceals her cloudy thoughts for a while and goes with Jack's flow.
"Yeah, the craziest question I asked that essentially matters now."
"What do you mean—"
Tumblr media
Jack showed her a half crystallize snowflake necklace, picking up its pieces through Jack's flurries that are gracefully following on his command. It is building up itself carefully and delicately.
"Do you remember my answer on it?" He asked as he gently lifts it towards Elsa as his upper body starting to fade as well.
The time is running out for him.
She grabs it softly. Instead of coldness, she feels warmth through it while ensembling. She can't clearly define how Jack can make this work, but, rather than querying she just cherish it wholeheartedly and approach Jack on a range that she can feel his sense, she can touch his face, she will be heard.
"You answered, 'Simply, a necklace because this is the only thing that someone can wear closest to their heart and–'”
"–I will learn to make one for someone who really deserves," they said in unison.
Tumblr media
"You knew how badly I am when it comes to giving you some gifts..." Jack comically said.
"I know, I know," Elsa replied with tears forming on the edge of her eyes.
"... Also in telling you my thoughts..."
"Yes, I know, Jack."
"...And how badly I am when competing with you..."
"I know, Jack. I know,"
Even though they are both struggling to conceal the grief of sadness they were dealing with at this moment, they never failed each other to seek the happiness inside them.
They didn't waste the time...
They joyfully refreshing all the memories they have: all means all even the slightest embarrassments they have.
They settled everything they want to settle.
They...
"Even if I'm considered immortal, there are still limits that restraint me to live eternally. My power and yours, and same to our given life, these are all just a credit we need to use wisely 'cuz our time is continually ticking then unnoticeably stops when we reach our limit." Jack said to Elsa for the last time. He sighs and continues, " take that necklace, formed from my own flesh and memoirs as a sign of my deepest love, a guide on your voyage, a memory of me to yours."
Jack smiled and wished he could hug and feel her lady for the last time. And with that, Elsa willingly places her hand on his cheeks as she knew that this is what Jack hoped.
And for the time, She smiled back at him even she is fighting her sadness inside of her. she showed him a smile to remember her. She calms herself and said, "Yes, I will take your necklace as a sign of my purest love for you and I will make this promise, witnessed by you to make fulfill half of the snowflake of yours; When my time comes... when my fate. comes."

Alone on the balcony, looking out over the city's twinkling lights, she should've been basking in the afterglow of the best sex of her life but instead she feels empty. Her resolve held strong in front of Sam as he skulked off seemingly full of regret but now, her mind races through every minute detail of what had just happened.
Instead of taking the time to carefully ingrain every delicious detail of their time together into her memory, she painfully second guessed every move, every touch, every whispered promise. Once her exhausted mind began to fray she decided to sweep the whole thing under the carpet determined to save face, for now. Collecting herself, she absentmindedly ran her fingers up and down her arms, goose bumps standing proud, finally giving in to the cold night air.
On her way back towards the ballroom, while wondering how the hell she was going to get through the rest of the evening, she prolongs her return to reality by ducking into one of the lavish bathrooms to freshen up.  The room is quiet, an older lady leaves as she enters, another younger girl, probably around her age, is refreshing her makeup by one of the opulent vanity's. She sits down on the plush velvet ottoman in the middle of the vanity area with a sigh, not really sure what to do next.
"Well you look like you've been through the ringer!"
Turning towards the kind voice, the girl who was doing her makeup, a warm glow pours out to her as the stranger looks her up and down with genuine concern. Her face is one of those which feels familiar, like someone she could’ve known her whole life. It is enough to encourage her to open up a little and feels like a relief to have someone to talk to after feeling so alone out on that balcony.
"I'm sort of having the best night of my life as well as the worst. And to top it all off I've left my purse in the main room..." She gestures towards her untidy hair and slightly smudged makeup by way of an explanation.
The stranger offers a knowing look in reply.
“So are you here with someone? Your dress is divine by the way."
Smoothing the front of her dress, Katie replies absentmindedly, "Oh no, I'm just here with my boss, filling in an empty seat at the last minute." Hesitant to share more with someone she'd just met, she kept the more intimate details to herself.
"Me too, well sort of. I'm a stylist, one of my clients insisted I join them to make sure they look perfect all night long, god forbid her dress creases when she sits down for dinner!" She waves Katie over to the vanity and the open make up case. "Here, use whatever you need." She continues watching as Katie gratefully grabs a brush and some powder. "I'm really just starting out but figure these sorts of events are great publicity if I can dress the right people. I mean they're all living on another planet of course but they love to be in the spotlight and gush about their outfits, which is great for me!"
The pair chat easily together for a while before Katie glances at the time on her phone screen realising she'd been gone much longer than anticipated. She’d enjoyed having an ally and getting her mind off the car crash of a moment with Sam, truth be told, she’d much rather stay here in the safety of her mirrored cave and the kindness of a stranger than plaster a smile on her face and return to the Dalton’s table. With a wistful smile she turns to the stranger.
"I suppose I should be getting back, although I can't say I'm looking forward to it."
"I'm Laney by the way." She holds her hand out to Katie and they share a gentle shake.
"I'm Katie. I've really enjoyed hiding out in here with you, thanks for everything." Leaving Laney to pack up the overly large purse full of beauty treasures, Katie heads back towards the bustling ballroom. Barely making it into the room, Laney breathlessly catches up to her holding out a business card.
"Hey, I thought maybe we could meet up for a coffee sometime, you know if you want to have someone in the real world to spend time with!" She points over to someone across the room and continues animatedly, "You said you went to NYIT right? I'm sure my friend Ryan would love to meet you too, he did his Grad course there and always loves a trip down memory lane!"
Taking the card, Katie’s eyes are drawn to Sam over Laney's shoulder. He looks just as he did before the balcony, the ever professional businessman, as if nothing had ever happened. He gives a slight tip of his head in Katie’s direction, motioning for her to join him back at the table.
The new friends share a quick hug promising to catch up soon and she makes her way over to Sam who won't quite meet her eye. Despite the frostiness between them, he's a gentleman at heart and doesn't think twice about pulling out her chair, tucking it in gently as she sits. As the bustle of dinner being served continues around them, the thorny silence between them grows thick with unspoken feelings.
After a whirlwind of Sam and his parents catching up over the exploits of various family friends and tales of the boys, Vivienne turns to smile at Katie.
"Now dear, we're being rude talking around you as though you're not here. Sam tells me you're quite the budding scientist yourself?"
She looks to Sam to see him offering a helpless smile and shrug of the shoulders and can’t help but wonder whether he’d shared anything about his previous employees with his mother, or if she was the first. As Katie pulls her eyes away from Sam’s, she pushes down all the feelings which bubbled up inside her and plasters on her most professional smile.
"Yes, Mrs Dalton, I have a Masters in Chemistry and up until recently was managing projects for Panacea Labs."
Being the expert that she is at reading people, Katie astutely notices how Mr Dalton’s ears prick, he clearly didn't know that there was more to her than being 'just a nanny', whatever that means.
"Please dear, you're practically family, call me Vivienne."
A warm glow fills her body at the thought of being accepted into the fold of the Dalton family. Smiling back at Vivienne, she continues to share stories of her experiences in the industry, her passion for science and her love for exploring through the twins eyes.
"Mickey and Mason are such a brilliant example of how a love of science can be developed at a young age. They're so curious and passionate about exploring, it's such a pleasure to be a part of."
Next to her, barely able to disguise the pride he feels for her, Sam tries his best to remain outwardly impassive while watching the rest of the table listen attentively, completely captivated by her storytelling. He'd meant it earlier on the balcony when he'd agreed that she was meant to be by his side, a partner not a secret he had to hide his feelings for. He just didn't know how to make it a reality, trapped within his own life. But in this moment, his feelings bubble to the surface and it takes everything he has not to take her in his arms in front of everyone and let them come flooding out for all to see.
After all, it wasn’t Katie’s fault that his true feelings for her hit him like a tonne of bricks earlier that evening while he watched her effortlessly talk Selene into keeping her shares. In front of his parents no less. Right there, everything he loves about her shone out for everyone to see and he realised he was deeply and helplessly in love. It just wasn’t with his fiancée. Hell that's the reason he took Katie out to the balcony in the first place, to steal a moment to share how he really feels but as always he was too much of a coward to do anything about it in fear or letting everyone else down and jeopardising his sons future.
He knows that the only way to try to push through it all is to detach himself from Katie as much as possible, even if it means becoming the bad guy. In his mind, she deserves better, she deserves the damn fairytale and that's just not something he's able to give.
As they move through the plentiful courses of dinner, Mason Sr continues to interrogate Katie on her knowledge and opinions of various scientific and business theories, although his directness falters as the meal goes on and they both seem to enjoy the lively debates. Vivienne occasionally interjects with questions of her own about Katie’s family, her life back in England and whether it's difficult to be far from home. To Katie, it almost feels like she’s on a 'meet the parents' date which in her mind could be going a lot worse.
When coffee is finally offered, Mason Sr stands abruptly, eyes focussed on Sam.
“Ladies, while this evening's discussions have been...interesting, I think it's time we get down to some business." He nods curtly at Sam before gesturing towards a quieter bar area off the back of the room.
Sam stands to follow him but not before turning to Katie and instinctively placing a hand on her shoulder. She involuntarily shudders at his touch as her mind races back to the last time they touched on the balcony.
"This shouldn't take too long, will you be ok here?"
"Of course she will darling, I'm not going to bite her!" Vivienne cuts in before she can reply. Sam nods in approval towards her and lingers for a moment before walking away to meet his father. Katie's shoulder still tingling at the memory of his touch.
Katie looks across the ballroom taking in the general splendour and jovial atmosphere while Vivienne takes the opportunity to really look at her, contemplating how much to share with her. After taking a few sips of coffee, she turns herself to fully face Katie and offers a warm smile.
"I can see why the boys are so taken with you...all of them."
The honesty of her comment takes Katie by surprise. Unsure how to respond, she slowly turns to meet Vivienne’s eye, raising her eyebrow slightly in question.
"You're all the things Sam said you were. He was right when he told me we'd get on well."
The intensity of Vivienne’s gaze is so strong Katie daren't look away.
"I want to thank you for everything you've done for them all. They've come alive again since having you in their life. Poor Sara was taken from him far too soon, from us all really...it was all so hard on Sam and the boys." She trails off clearly lost in memory. "I know he cares for you and wants you to feel part of the family."
“Shit” she thinks to herself. Feeling like a rabbit caught in headlights, Katie's mind races. Does she know? How can she, they've only met once before, surely that's not enough to make her suspicious?
"I think Sam's just taken pity on me because I'm so far from home and he knows I don't have any family around. He and the boys have been so gracious in making me feel welcome."
Hoping she sounds convincing she takes a sip of coffee, relishing the opportunity to hide her blushing cheeks behind the cup. Vivienne suddenly looks up with Katie follow her gaze over her shoulder. Behind her, Laney is standing with a cowboy-next-door handsome man in tow, a welcome interruption. His dirty blonde hair is slightly unkempt, his frame more lean than Sam's but he still carries an athletic look, he smiles charmingly at Katie.
“Excuse me" Laney directs to Vivienne before turning to speak to Katie. “This is my friend Ryan who I was telling you about earlier."
Katie reaches out to shake his hand which he is already holding out towards her.
"I hear you're a fellow NYIT grad? You look far too respectable to have hung out in the sort of dives I used to find myself in!"
"Try me..." she challenges with a twinkle in her eye.
Laney rolls her eyes with boredom and escapes, business card in hand, to fawn over an awkwardly dressed woman at another table.
"Would you like to dance? I promise not to break out the old NYIT match day chant moves!"
She can't help but laugh at his natural charm. After looking to Vivienne, who waves her hand in approval, she lets Ryan lead her out to the dance floor where they sway together at ease in each other's company reminiscing. It’s a far cry from the intimate dance with Sam earlier that evening, instead Katie could relax into it knowing that she wasn’t trying to hide anything, and it felt freeing.
As Sam's discussion, or more accurately argument, with his father comes to an end he heads back to the table where he notices his mother is sitting alone.
“Where's Katie?" He asks forgetting to hide the panic in his voice, worried for the second time that evening, after she had disappeared to the bathroom for half an hour, that Katie had thought better of compromising herself for him and fled the gala.
Vivienne nods towards the dance floor, Sam's eyes follow and a bolt of jealousy hits him right in the heart as he sees her in the arms of another man.
With a steely glare he starts towards her but is stopped by Vivienne's hand firmly holding him back by his arm.
“Leave her be, she's enjoying herself."
Letting out an almost inaudible sigh he sits down next to his mother but can't pull his eyes away, so enthralled that his mother's voice is almost a whisper in the background.
"She really is wonderful darling, I know even your father is impressed, of course he'll never say it." Her arm still resting on his, she studies Sam's face before continuing, "What a shame you’d not met her sooner.”
Allowing himself for a moment to hope that his mother's glowing reference suggests she is in approval of his relationship with Katie becoming something more, Sam smiles and leans forward ready to gush even more. He catches himself just in time as the ever repeating voices in his head remind him of his responsibility and everyone else's expectations of him, instead he brings it back to the boys.
"Yes she's brilliant with Mason and Mickey, they're lucky to have her."
Dancing and talking together with Ryan, Katie had almost forgotten about Sam and their earlier tryst on the balcony, grateful for the distraction and if she was being honest the attention. It's not every day that she goes to the effort of dressing up at the last minute and schmoozes the un-scmoozable to help her sort-of-boyfriend look good, it's nice to have someone sweep her off her feet and put her first for once.
"Your boyfriend doesn't seem too happy about us dancing together" Ryan nods towards Sam who is trying to get their attention, his parents behind him appear to be getting ready to leave.
"He's not my boyfriend."
Ryan's eyes widen sensing an opportunity. “Well I guess that's good news for me...can I call you sometime, take you out for dinner?"
She drops her gaze, shaking her head slightly.
“I'm sorry, I don't think it's a good idea..." trailing off, he gently lifts her chin to look up at him.
"But you're single...?"
"No, I...it's...it's complicated" she stutters while looking over his shoulder at Sam, who looks less than thrilled.
"Well, if you change your mind, Laney has my number." With that, he kisses her hand and watches the silk of her gown cling to her hips as she walks away.
Returning to the table, Mason Sr takes Katie’s hand and shakes it almost warmly.
“Pleasure to see you again Katie. Excellent damage control with Selene earlier...very impressive."
He moves to Sam, impassively shaking his hand as Vivienne envelopes her in a hug, kissing each cheek.
"Wonderful to see you again dear, give those grandsons of mine one of these from me!"
Katie smiles tenderly back at her, nodding in agreement.
After the Dalton's leave, Katie and Sam remain at the table, sipping their drinks in awkward silence, steadily interrupted by acquaintances of Sam's wanting to talk business. Finally, noticing Katie’s arm propping up her tired head, Sam stands.
“I think that's enough shop talk for one night, let's get you home."
Waiting for the limo to pull to the front of the building Sam notices her shiver in the cold night air. He takes off his jacket and wraps it around her shoulders, the most contact they’ve had all evening since being intertwined on the balcony together. His gaze lingers on hers, neither able to look away. She tries to read his thoughts as she looks deep into his eyes but all she sees is a muddle of pain, confusion and longing. It doesn't make her feel any better.
"Mr Dalton..." the driver says with a small cough as he stands by the open limo door.
Sam pulls away and walks her over to the limo with his hand hovering behind the small of her back, not daring to touch. Once settled in their seats it doesn't take long for the gentle motion of the car to send Katie to sleep, her head lulling and dropping onto Sam's shoulder.
It takes everything he has for him not to wrap his arms around her, his mind conflicted thinking of the nights events. The incredible connection they shared on the balcony, the fire within him burning hotter and brighter than ever before, his mother's glowing review, hell even his father had been impressed and suggested during their conversation in the bar that Katie’s role within the Dalton empire might be wasted as just a nanny. But none of these thoughts could quite suppress his feelings of guilt at falling for another woman, his responsibility to his sons, the business and their legacies. At least not in his mind.
Back in the penthouse, Sam makes his way into the open plan living area to find, thinking him for his help with the boys. Katie hangs back, not wanting to make small talk in front of Carter, who is incredibly astute and would no doubt piece together that things were not as they seemed.
"Miss Hide, you're a vision!"
Walking towards the elevator, Carter beams at her like a proud dad seeing his daughter on her wedding day.
“I didn't get the chance to see you before you left, my my..."
"Thank you Carter. And thank you for watching the boys, I hope they weren't too much trouble?!"
He taps his nose, keeping secret whatever mischief they got up to that evening. She smiles back at him knowingly as he steps into the elevator and the doors close.
As she turns back towards the living room she is halted by Sam standing right in front of her, so close, she almost crashes into him. Sheepishly she hands him his jacket as he offers a bottle of water in exchange.
‘You should never go to bed dehydrated" he blurts out, trying to fill the gaping silence.
“Sam...."
"Goodnight Katie, thank you for your help this evening, I appreciate you coming."
Unable to muster up enough energy to argue push any further, Katie drops her gaze to the floor as she shakes her head disappointedly. She walks away without a word, her heart aching more than she thought possible.

Well, here it finally is! My ‘Lost Boys’ winter ficlet! Hope you guys like it! Let me know what you think!
December 17th, 1987
“Really, Mrs. Emerson, I don’t really think—“
“David, how many times have I told you, call me Lucy.” The Emerson matriarch counters softly, offering a smile that could rival the softness of pillowy cotton candy.
“Lucy,” David corrects, shuffling alongside the mousy woman, his gloved hands stuffed into his coat pockets. He clears his throat gruffly, nuzzling the lower half of his face down into the thick woollen scarf wrapped around his neck. “-‘You sure this is a good idea? I don’t—“
“Oh, don’t be silly!” Lucy exclaims in surprise, casting an apalled glance at the vampire as she wraps her arms around her chest to block out the cold. “Michael and Sam won’t mind in the slightest! Dad either!” She reassures. “Besides, you’re a part of the family!”
David opens and closes his mouth beneath the toasty barrier of fluffy knitted wool tugged up past his nose. He’s not sure what to say to that.
The snow crunches and squeaks underneath his boots as he continues alongside Lucy like some lost puppy. Ice crystals cling to his spurs.
“I’m glad I kept Michael’s old skates.” She says after a moment, peeking at the scuffed black figure skates hanging over David’s shoulders via the laces, which are tied together. The silver blades, though a little scraped, glint with the reflection of the glittering snow.
David nods slowly. “Yeah, I guess so...” He’s not too sure what else to say to that, after all, it was really more of a statement than anything else.
Behind them, Thorn and Nanook pounce and roughhouse with one another, rolling around in the chilly diamond blanket covering the earth.
David puffs out a short breath, ducking further down into the knitted woollen fabric bunched up around his neck like a bashful turtle. At this point he can no longer feel the tips of his ears. He’d blatantly refused to wear a hat.
Lucy laughs softly as she adjusts her own hat. “You know, I didn’t think vampires got cold...”
David shrugs his shoulders. “All that stuff in the movies and on TV about us,” He drawls, raising his eyebrows. “Most of it’s bullshit. Don’t gotta be alive to get cold.”
“Oh, hm.” Lucy hums lightly, nodding her head thoughtfully. “I suppose a lot of those, I don’t know, stereotypes are a bit silly.” She admits.
“Oh, we’re here!” She says cheerily, gesturing to the frozen pond in the distance. Michael and Sam linger on the glittering banks, decked out in their winter apparel. Sam stands out against the stark winter landscape like a neon beacon.
David supposes that he’s not any less obvious against the snow, what with his all-black attire.
The eldest of the Emerson’s, a man who David has simply come to know as “Grandpa”, stands beside a denuded tree whose limbs hang heavy with the hefty weight of the ice and snow.
“Ah,” Grandpa exhales, his breath clouding in front of his rosy face like little puffs of dragon’s smoke. “You finally made it! ‘Was starting to think you two weren’t gonna show!”
Lucy’s face lights up. “Oh, dad!” She swats at the air in playful dismissiveness as she shuffles forward and envelopes the old man into a warm hug that must feel like marshmallow fluff.
Grandpa chuckles heartily and pats Lucy on the back before transitioning his attention to David. “You’re looking a little frosty there, sonny...”
The vampire pokes his curiously rosy nose out from beneath the barrier of thick wool wrapped around his neck and blows out a puff of air.
The eccentric old-timer chuckles quietly and shakes his head. He nods to the icebound pond behind him with subtle amusement. A screech— no doubt arising from Sam— echoes throughout the pines, startling the birds. A heavy ‘thud’ immediately follows, bringing a wry simper to David’s face.
Grandpa shakes his head with an amused sigh. “Hopefully you’re better at this skating business than Sam is.” He glances over his shoulder.
David scoffs and settles down atop a somber tree stump to pull on his skates. He tugs his boots off and drops them into the heavensent powder beside him, his spurs clinking and the snow crunching.
Thorn plods through the winter mess, mowing a path like some furry bulldozer. He wags his tail back and forth, his tongue hanging out of his mouth, as he comes to stand beside David, who is just finishing lacing up his skates.
Michael glides to a stop beside the bank, the blades of his skates sending up a fine fan of ice shavings. “Didn’t think you’d actually skate.” He comments, stuffing his gloved hands into his jacket pockets.
“What can I say, Michael? I’m full of surprises.” David replies mischievously.
Michael huffs in amusement and rolls his eyes. “Yeah, sure you are.”
David frowns and leans down to brush a patch of slushy snow off of one of his skates’ blades.
“You gonna skate, or what?” Michael asks, a shit-eating grin spreading across his face. And then, “...Or is the big bad vampire scared?”
“I’m not scared.” David snaps back, his tone of voice mirroring that of a whining child whose been told to eat their vegetables. He huffs.
“Well, come on then, dude.” Michael nods back towards the pond, the left corner of his mouth twitching upwards.
David mutters something that sounds vaguely like, “fuck you” before stalking past Michael, whose face must be starting to hurt by now with how much he’s grinning.
“Ah,” The brunette shakes his head. “C’mon, sourpuss...” He trails after the blond and throws an arm around his shoulders before steering him towards that damn pond.
David stabs at the ground with the toe-pick of one of his skates. “Fine.” He relents.
“Hey, Mike! Look!” Sam’s voice soars through the nippy air like a Sabrejet. Michael turns just as his overly enthusiastic brother is making an attempt at balancing on one skate. It ends with a heavy thud and a screech so ungodly that it could probably curdle milk.
David’s eyebrows shoot up towards the sky, his face remains impassive. Michael just sighs and shakes his head, muttering an amused, “God,” under his breath.
“C’mon...” Michael nods his head, a glint in his eye, and curls his fingers around the vampire’s forearm. He stops a step before the earth gives way to ice and looks at David, whose eyebrows shoot up in question. “What?”
“What d’you mean “what?” Michael counters and then after a beat, “Are you gonna skate or what?”
The vampire frowns and sighs before sweeping an arm throughout the air and saying with a sly grin, “by all means, dust before the broom.”
“Hey, fuck you, man.” The brunette laughs.
An impish smirk spreads across David’s face. He leans towards Michael and throws an arm across his shoulders. “Promise?” He drawls lowly, his breath ghosting against Michael’s ear.
The brunette’s face goes beet red. He elbows David in the gut, but he just laughs. “Ah, c’mon, Michael...” He flashes his brows suggestively.
Michael clears his throat awkwardly. “You’re such an ass, man.” David makes an unbothered ‘hmph’ noise in the back of his throat and shrugs his shoulders. He raises his hands up in mock surrender, watching smugly as Michael steps out onto the ice.
David lingers on the bank awhile before biting the metaphysical bullet and taking to the ice. He takes an experimental stride, pushing off with his left leg. His toe-pick catches a divet in the ice and before he has the chance to right himself, he’s on his ass. “Agh!”
Michael cringes at the impact. He offers his hand out to David, but he swats it away like a temperamental house cat.
The blond picks himself up off of the slick ice with a huff, grumbling in frustration as he tries to regain his balance.
“You okay?” Michael asks after a couple of seconds. “Been awhile, huh?” He muses.
David shoots daggers at him, and then, “47 years.”
Michael raises his eyebrows. “Oh.” He looks down at his skates. “You, uh, you need help?”
The vampire gawks and scrunches up his face as if he’s tasted something rotten. “No.”
Sam lounges atop an upside down bucket, kicking up pockets of diamond fluff while Nanook rolls around him without a care in the world. “Gee, Nanook!” He exclaims in amusement, his cheeks nearly splitting from how much he’s smiling.
“Woah! Whoa-“ Michael’s arms shoot out as David’s equilibrium wavers and he braces his gloved hands against the fronts of the vampire’s tense shoulders. Unconsciously, David’s arms extend to grasp at the brunettes sleeves.
“You sure you don’t need help?” Michael chuckles, an action to which he receives a sharp glare from the frazzled vampire. He sighs. “Fine.”
“Okay,” Michael glances down at the blond’s skates. “Widen your stance a little, and bend your knees.” He nods. “Yeah, like that.”
David looks down at his feet, lingering for a moment, and then back up again. “Okay, now what?” Michael grins at his eagerness before responding, “Now push off with your left leg.”
The blond blows out a puff of air and pushes off, his hands gripping tight at Michael’s jacket sleeves.
“Yeah, that’s it, dude!” Sam exclaims from the bank, his entire face as red as a fresh strawberry due to the biting cold.
If it weren’t for his concentration on not falling, he’d have scowled at the over enthusiastic little shit.
David takes another cautious stride, this one slightly wider than the last. He grasps at Michael’s sleeve with an iron grip. Michael chuckles. “Take it easy, man. You’re doing good.”
The blond swallows and nods his head. “...Okay.”
“So, you wanna try to skate without me?” Michael asks after a couple seconds, looking David in the eye. A beat passes where nothing but the whistle of the wind through the scraggly tree limbs can be heard.
“Uh,” The vampire shrugs his shoulders in what could be perceived as an attempt at nonchalance. “Yeah, yeah, sure.” He glances down at his his gloved hands which are curled around Michael’s firm biceps before pushing himself away.
He glides backwards slowly, his arms out at his sides as if he’s going through airport security. He glances down at his skates and carefully nudges the toe-pick of his right skate into the ice.
“See, man!” Michael blurts out, clapping his hands together. “Not so hard, is it?” He stuffs his hands into his pockets and glides over. “You think you got it from here?”
David narrows his eyes and frowns. “Y’know, I think I can manage, yeah.” He snarks.
“Alright then, tough guy, let’s see what you’ve got.” Michael retorts humorously.
David’s brows shoot up towards the monochromatic heavens at the challenge, and he smirks. “Whatever you say, Michael.” The vampire turns and pivots surprisingly well for having looked like a wobbling newborn fawn minutes earlier.
Michael makes a surprised ‘hmph’ noise in the back of his throat. “Not bad... You sure you didn’t already secretly know how to skate?” He asks.
The blond shrugs his shoulders impishly. “Maybe. Maybe not.”
Michael chuckles and shakes his head, before sighing comically. “Don’t know what I expected...”
David quirks a brow. “Like I said, Michael, I’m full of surprises.”
The brunette rolls his eyes. “Yeah, yeah, c’mon, “Scott Hamilton”...” He waves his arm in a “come here” way, motioning the vampire over.
David drills a small crater into the ice with his toe-pick and snickers. He raises his brows cockily. “Scott Hamilton”, huh?”
Michael rolls his eyes and shakes his head. “Alright, whatever. C’mon, man, let’s skate.”
The vampire scoffs softly, before gesturing blithely. “Whatever you say, Michael.” He does a half rotation, hands still in his pockets, before pushing off with his right leg and moving into forward crossovers.
Michael gawks. “You gotta be kidding me—“
David casts an amused glance over his shoulder. “You trying to catch flies, Michael?” He asks wryly, gesturing to the brunettes gaping mouth.
Michael snaps his mouth shut. “So, s’there anything else you can do, Mr. cloak-and-dagger?”
“Hm,” The blond hums thoughtfully. “I’m not a one-trick pony, Michael.”
“Well let’s see, then.” Michael encourages him.
The corners of David’s mouth twitch, just a little. He slips his hands out of his pockets and proceeds to glide out to the centre of the frosted pond, where he stops. Before doing anything, he pulls his jacket off and tosses it towards the bank.
Michael quirks a brow, confused by the action. “It’s cold as hell, dude. Why’d you take off your—“
David pushes away from the centre and takes off like a bullet train, gliding forward on his left outside edge and lifting his right knee upwards, before leaving the ice for two full rotations and landing back on his right foot.
Sam, who lingers on the right bank nursing a mug of hot chocolate, sputters.
Michael doesn’t fare any different. “What the hell was that?” His mouth hangs open. “How the hell’d you—?”
David’s cool façade cracks and he chuckles. His hair is windswept. “Well, to answer your first question, that was a double axel. And to answer the second, I’ve been around for a while, Michael. You know what they say, “practice makes perfect.”
“I can’t believe you actually got me to think you were totally helpless.” The brunette comments. “Shit, now I’m the amateur.”
“Well...” David drawls. “Maybe I just wanted an excuse to be close to you, huh?”
Michael scoffs. “You know, you could’ve just asked.”
David smirks. “What would be the fun in that?”

Chapter 17 - Provocative
All the lights in the auditorium dimmed, and the large powerpoint projection on the screen let out a bright glow. If audience had been excited about Tang Yin's painting, then they were ecstatic with the next item, or maybe they were just in shock. The image on the screen was a Song Dynasty Ge-ware bamboo incense burner. The whole piece was coated in a light green glaze. The iconic Ge-ware-style sharp cracks and dark lines stretched over the body of the burner. Its slim shape was truly elegant.
PSP guy's eyes subconsciously lit up, and his slumped posture suddenly straightened. This was a very pricey item. If it was genuine, a seven-figure auction price would be a generous estimate.
Lin Yan couldn't help getting excited, but Xiao Yu seemed completely uninterested. He put his fingers on the top of his back and snuck them underneath his collar. He stroked his collarbone with cold fingertips and leaned over and hugged him. He kissed the side of his face unscrupulously. Lin Yan couldn't pull his hand away. He felt so anxious and angry, quietly thinking about what the two thousand people in the audience would think. He begged that no one in the audience could see the ghost behind him. If anyone could see him. . . even jumping into the Yellow River couldn't wash off his shame.
He wasn't sure why, but the intimacy of this clingy ghost happening now wasn't as disgusting as it was when the events started. Lin Yan blushed. He knew that this ghost’s temper, and that whenever he resisted, the torment would never end. However, the constant comfort could always calm him down. As the saying goes, "Whosoever understands current events is a great man." Lin Yan grabbed Xiao Yu's hand and tugged gently.
The cold hand touched his face, then dropped back to his shoulder and squeezed it lightly.
Professor File Folder pushed up his glasses. He took out a safe from under the desk, twisted the combination lock, and took out the bamboo incense burner that was in the photo with both hands and placed it on the mahogany desk frame. A white spotlight shone down on it, and you could hear a pin drop in the auditorium. The silence audience cast their gaze onto the piece on the desk. The fine light green porcelain was covered in sharp cracks, and the shape of it was simple but not amateur. The white light covered all corners of the burner, giving the eye-catching piece a frosty aura.
This was the charm of antiques. Life goes on. Time passes. The people have long since died but the artifacts will forever remain. They are passed down through generations of people with money holding strong and unmoved throughout the years.
This was definitely the final piece, Lin Yan thought. The professor motioned him and the PSP guy to come up and take a closer look. Lin Yan tilted the incense burner and looked closely at the bottom. Experts look at porcelain and examine the exposed portions before estimating its age. If there wasn't any issues, then the authenticity of the piece could be determined almost immediately. However, when the precious incense burner was turned over, Lin Yan couldn't help but let out a gasp. PSP guy was also taken aback. After pondering, his expression eventually revealed what he was thinking.
PSP guy's reaction convinced Lin Yan that today was definitely going to be a tie. Just as he was about to put the incense burner back, the glazed pattern suddenly caught his attention. Something seemed off, Lin Yan hesitated. He picked up the incense burner to check it again and frowned.
"Why are you so slow every time? Do you need someone to do it for you?" After the PSP man finished writing the answer, he took out a stick of gum and stuffed it into his mouth, chewing indifferently while looking at Lin Yan.
Lin Yan didn't bother paying attention to him. He was able to determine the age at a glance, and there was no problem with the glaze color and the crack patterns. This thing was almost a perfect fake of Song Dynasty Ge-ware. . . But it was being handled by the professor personally. . . It was almost impossible to make a guess.
"... What do you think?" Lin Yan asked for Xiao Yu's opinion softly. Xiao Yu didn't say anything, but the expression in his eyes seemed encouraging. He wasn't sure why, but being watched by those eyes, Lin Yan suddenly had a little bit of confidence in his guess and even changed what he was originally going to answer. Xiao Yu held his wrist and nodded very lightly.
So be it, Lin Yan thought.
"Students, please reveal your answers." The red jacket skirt girl announced.
The two whiteboards turned around at the same time. Each had the same answer again: fake.
Professor File Folder nodded approvingly, and said: "It looks like we have a playoff today. Both are correct. This is indeed a fake." He turned to face the PSP guy. "I won't explain it this time. Instead, this classmate will explain."
The PSP man took the mic, and the sound of chewing gum echoed through the loudspeaker. Lin Yan cringed. PSP guy didn't care at all, and said casually, "In the Ming Dynasty Chenghua period, there were lots of imitations of Song Dynasty kiln porcelains. It's in good condition and valued at 3 to 5 million yuan."
Lin Yan's brow furrowed even more.
Professor Folder was very satisfied. He doesn't even care about the bs that the PSP guy just spewed. He nodded and smiled: "That's right, these students can make these conclusions in such a short amount of time. They have good eyes. They both have a future in this field."
After speaking, he clapped his hands together, turned to the audience and said with vigour: "This is indeed not a Song Ge-ware incense burner, but a Ming imitation. There are very few imitations of Ge-ware works made during the Chenghua period of the Ming Dynasty left. This is only a representation of the Palace Museum, which has extremely high historical value. It's said that this school has excellent students. I didn't believe it before I saw it today. It was worth the trip, haha, definitely worth it."
"I have decided to make a special case for these two, and give each of them a prize."
Lin Yan looked at Xiao Yu hesitantly. The latter pushed his shoulders forward, as if urging him on. Lin Yan gritted his teeth, turned his head and said to the PSP man: "No, you're wrong."
The sound of chewing gum suddenly stopped, and the PSP guy stared at him. "Excuse me?"
Lin Yan took mic from the host and stuttered: "This-this is indeed an imitation, no one is arguing that, but it's modern. Even with the exquisite craftsmanship, it probably wouldn't sell for more than a 200 yuan decoration piece."
As soon as he fell silent, the audience was in an uproar, and some even leaned on the back of the chairs in front of them as if they were ashamed. The PSP guy snorted to express his disdain, and squinted at Lin Yan. "You're kidding, right? You can't see the obvious Ming Chenghua Ge-ware piece. I've been studying this for so many years." After that, he switched off his PSP and curled his lips: "It's time to go back class and educate yourself."
If it weren’t for Lin Yan’s calm composure, he would've rushed over and punched him. His anger of being humiliated in public made him clench his fists, but Xiao Yu must've known what he was thinking and held his shoulders with both hands to prevent him from acting on it.
There was a sneer across the auditorium. Someone called out for him to get off the stage. Lin Yan's heartbeat quickened. The building energy of the audience made him a little panicked. He looked at Professor File Folder like he wanted confirmation.
File Folder was embarrassed. To be honest, he personally identified this bamboo incense burner before it went into the Palace Museum exhibit. There was no debate about its authenticity. The purpose of bringing it to these events was not to re-appraise it, but only to serve as a typical example to teach students about the identification and collection of Ming imitations.
"It seems that this classmate is not very good at porcelain appreciation. Let me explain. When judging the age of porcelain artifacts, we must first look at the appearance of its base. This one has obvious characteristics of Ming Ge-ware, but it's an imitation of Song porcelain. Such things are called antiques in modern times, but at the time they were made, they were fakes. . ." File Folder gestured at Lin Yan that he could leave the stage. The corner of his mouth lifted, showing why young people should really take care of their skin.
Lin Yan was at a loss. He squeezed the armrest of the chair. He was so overwhelmed by File Folder's reputation as a leading porcelain expert that he didn't dare speak up. In all fairness, he didn't belong with a group of talented professionals. This time, he just happened to see a small contradiction and blatantly tried to argue with an expert. Lin Yan glanced at the darkened audience under the stage, and his stomach rolled.
A chill covered the back of his hand, another hand wrapping around his own. Xiao Yu stood beside him and tilted his head to look at him. There was no aggression, his eyes calm and serious. As if there was a steady stream of energy coming from the cold palms, Lin Yan felt funny. There were more than 2,000 pairs of eyes, yet only one ghost could see the truth. There were more than 2,000 living people, yet only one ghost was willing to listen to what he had to say. Xiao Yu's lips touched Lin Yan's cheek very lightly, motioning him to look at the incense burner in the center of the stage, and gently shook his head.
Under the dazzling spotlight, the fine porcelain's green glaze sparkled, and the cracked patterns were delicate and elegant. It was really beautiful. Lin Yan thought: The imitation was preserved because of its beauty, but the reality was left in the dark because of its cruel truth, turning into a coffin with decomposing bones.
"Go." Xiao Yu pressed his knees and said with great effort, ". . . Trust me."
Lin Yan took a deep breath, looked at Xiao Yu and nodded.
There was really only one way he could prove that this was really a modern fake. He walked around behind the square table and strode towards the piece on the stage. Before anyone had a chance to react, Lin Yan picked up the incense burner and smashed it on the ground without a second thought. There was a crisp sound. The million-dollar-priced treasure was broken into dozens of pieces and scattered on the ground. The PSP guy was stunned. The professor couldn't form a coherent sentence. The jeers from the audience stopped and the whole auditorium was silent.
Youth could be wild and energetic, but also incredibly stupid. Lin Yan stood stubbornly amidst the broken porcelain. Professor File Folder suddenly lost his composure. He leapt over and shoved Lin Yan's shoulder, his mouth opening and closing, unsure of what words to even say. The commotion from the audience grew louder and louder, as if being fueled by a storm.
Lin Yan broke away from the professor. He squatted down and picked up one of the shards off the floor, selecting a piece of the base of the incense burner. He pointed out the incline of the fracture, stuffed the shard into the professor's hands, and said softly but clearly: "It's a modern fake. It's a shame to put it in the Palace Museum."
File Folder let out a distressed noise, his face flushed. Anyone who really loves antiques knows that compared to the high price of an antique, the historical value it carries was a truly priceless treasure. Everyone was waiting to see the professor lose his mind. However, even though he was furious, he suddenly raised his head and looked at Lin Yan in disbelief, and then stared at the broken porcelain piece. His stubby fingers rubbed the porcelain piece back and forth. He trembled: " How. . . how could you tell?"
The professor spoke very quietly, but the mic on his collar picked it up, and the sentence echoed across the auditorium.
Hearing this question, PSP guy also picked up a piece of debris from the ground and looked at it over. When he raised his head again, the expression on his face looked like he had just eaten shit.
"Uh. . ." There were several things he wanted to say but they were all caught in his throat. Lin Yan has this problem. No matter what the situation, he never has any trouble when he speaks to a friend, but when he is alone in a large group arguing with others, he often freezes up because he lacked self-confidence.
Xiao Yu held Lin Yan, fingers tightly interlocked with his, standing side by side. His whole body was also cold like a piece of porcelain. After a while, he slowly calmed down, and cold lips gently tapped the side of Lin Yan's mouth.
He. . . was on his side. This thought made Lin Yan relax a little. After taking a few deep breaths to straighten out his thoughts, he explained: "Because of the temperature of the kiln, no matter how accurate the imitation of Ming Ge-ware porcelain is, there is still a slight difference in the direction of the cracks in the glaze of Ge-ware porcelain. The glazed surface of this incense burner has the characteristics of the Song Dynasty, but the exposed base has the characteristics of the Ming Dynasty. There is only one possibility for two eras of craftsmanship to appear on one piece; that is, contemporary counterfeit.” After finishing speaking, he added: “These kinds of frauds only started appearing within the past two years. I. . . I also took a gamble. I didn't think I'd be right."
The professor stared at him blankly, and hissed through his teeth: "You. . . you took a gamble? What if you were wrong? What if you made a mistake!" He tapped his feet twice, and finally gave up. He slapped the surface of the desk and said in a deep voice to the audience: "The students here are truly amazing."
After thirty seconds of silence, the audience burst into thunderous applause.
Lin Yan scratched his hair. He looked at Xiao Yu embarrassedly, and said softly, "We won."
He swore that this was the first time in his life that he has seen this ghost showing the expression of an ordinary person, looking very proud. Xiao Yu gently hugged him from behind, his long hair rubbing against his face. Lin Yan didn't avoid it. He was a little grateful for this ghost, even a little dependent on him. His palms were soaked in a cold sweat. Lin Yan gave Xiao Yu a sideways glance and rubbed his wet palms on his clothes.
Professor File Folder took a sip of water. He took out a pen and memo from his book bag, and looked at Lin Yan with interest: "Classmate, what's your name? Come to me when the lecture is over and I'll engrave it for you."
Lin Yan took two steps towards the professor and decided on what he wanted engraved.
"Xiao Yu. "Xiao" written as the character for "dejected", "Yu" written as the character for "sweet smelling"." Lin Yan explained. . .
The professor's smile dropped immediately, and his face changed in an instant.

The Flame and the Dragon Chapter 31
Chapter 31: Human Again
Echo barked orders as the staff while digging a mountain of dust out of the candle holders and polishing them until the iron shined. Cole had only given them a day to get this ballroom perfect, so they had no chance to slack off. Not if they wanted this curse broken. Jay pushed a rag as big as him across the window clearing away trails of dust and leaving the clean stain glass glittering in his wake. Pixal sighed as she whipped her forehead from exhaustion.
She had been helping Ultra Violet and Harumi clean the stained glass ceiling, and her wings ached from their constant fluttering.
Harumi unhooked the tapestries and drapes and gathered them into a pile that Nelson gathered for washing. Down below Neuro and Tox swept away a century of dirt and dust from the frosty glass floor and out over the balcony. Unfortunately, once the chandeliers, ceilings, and windows were done, more dust caked the floor in dark clumps. Echo gazed over their progress from the chandeliers and groaned. After hours of cleaning the ballroom still needed a lot of work, but he was determined.
The first layer of dust and the cobwebs had been cleared from the windows and chandeliers, they just had to clean the rest of the place.
But with some of the staff still doing the regular chores and Shade still deciding what to make and gathering ingredients, they had little help. There was no point in asking Griffin. The second Echo told him about the ball, he had locked himself in his studio. It was only a matter of time before Harumi joined him. Sensing the poor team morale, Echo cleared his throat loudly, catching everyone's attention.
"Right then! You all know why we're here! We have exactly twelve hours, thirty-six minutes, and fifteen seconds to create the most magical, spontaneous, romantic atmosphere known to man or beast." He chuckled weakly at his little joke, but no one else did, so he got more serious. "Right then, I'm sure that I don't need to remind you all that if the flame goes out of the candle, the spell will never be broken!"
"Lighten up Echo and let nature take its course!" Ronin called out and the others all made sounds of agreement.
"It's obvious there's a spark between them." Nelson giggled.
"Yeah but there's no harm in fanning the flames a little; if we pull this off, and Kai is the key, we could all finally be human again!" Tox cheered with starry eyes.
"Let's not get too ahead of ourselves, Tox," Neuro chided gently.
"I don't think she's that far off," Harumi answered. "I mean it's obvious there's something going on between those two, and, think about it; have any of you actually thought of what it would be like to be human again? Finally human after all this time?" She asked and everyone in the room suddenly paused. They had thought of that. They still remembered the earlier days of their cursed existences when they could only take the form of the monsters they were cursed too.
How difficult it had been to change between their physical and spectral forms.
How tricky it had been to muster enough energy to maintain a physical body in their human appearances, but even then they only lasted a short time. Shade couldn't even leave the kitchen without the risk of fading away forever. He may not say it, but everyone knew it hurt the chef more than anyone. Over the last one hundred years, they had feared, hated, despised, and relished in their new existences. They eventually started doing what they had always done and lived their lives to the fullest and trying to make each day a little better than the last.
Even with the dark curse looming over their heads, they had had time to prepare for it.
To accept it. To come to terms with it whether the curse was broken or not. But when Cole had fallen into despair and nothing the staff could do could change his moods or bring him out of the dark, lonely existence he had accepted for himself, they too seemed chained to their fate by despair. But the past four to five months had changed all that. Kai's presence in the castle had given them a spark of hope and they were no longer afraid to continue to live their lives again.
This time they prepared for two outcomes.
Their end which if that was the case they would go to with no regrets knowing they were loyal to Cole to the end and knowing they lived their lives to the best of their ability. The other one was where the spell is broken and they become human and their lives began all over again. Even though all of them were hoping for the latter, it was still terrifying regardless. The thought of being human again. Of the possibility of a new life and the chance to either remain in the castle that had always been their home or to start over in a new one.
Either one promised its own laughs and tears, its own joys and heartaches, but wasn't that what freedom was?
Wasn't that what being human truly meant?
"I'm not sure what I'd do if I were human again," Tox pondered to herself."I don't really think I'd leave here, I mean, as much as I love to leave the castle for once and see the kingdom again and what's changed in the last century, I don't really think I'd have any other place to go, this is my home after all; I guess, I'd just live like I have been, doing what I love until the day I die, and to be honest, I am getting sick of constantly being so young." She smiled and looked at her hands with a chuckle.
"Oh, I can't wait to start aging again!" Nelson added, immediately.
"I am so sick of looking like a teen! I swear I don't care if I grow old and die, if this is what being young forever is like, then all those children's tales can keep their immortality and eternal youth nonsense," Echo chided, sweeping up a cloud of dust in his anger until a laughing Jay stopped him.
"I second that." Ronin raised his hand. "Honestly, though, I think I'd like to find something else to do, I mean I can't exactly be Cole's servant forever."
"I wouldn't mind," Jay added, pulling himself onto the windowsill to sit. His eyes wandered to Echo who continued to battle the dust in the window. "Though there is one thing I'd like to do if I were human again."
"What's that?" Echo asked curiously since he was the only one close enough to hear the mumble. Jay just smiled.
"I'll tell you later."
"Would you miss your spirit form, Jay? You know like being able to fly and control lightning and stuff?" Tox asked.
"Probably," He laughed. "But it was fun while it lasted, and you can only fly and be covered in fuzz for so long before it gets boring."
"Would you miss flying, Pixal?" Neuro asked nervously. "I know you can in your pixie form."
"Well, I think of it as a new experience, like when you jump in a lake for the first time; at the time the experience is amazing and it's a wonderful and fond memory, but if you do it too often, you get bored of it so, I think I will miss flying, but it's not like I won't be able to take the experience with me." She giggled.
"That's a good point!" Nelson added.
"I don't think I'll miss my spirit form," Ronin laughed, leaning against the wall. "My human body is certainly not as short that's for sure, I wonder how Shade will handle not being trapped in the kitchens?"
"I doubt that being bound to the kitchen is much much fun," Harumi replied and turned to Neuro. "What about you?" She asked and he blinked at her response. "It seems we've neglected your opinions on the matter?"
"Well, I think I'd like to be human again."
"Why's that?" Tox asked curiously.
"I know I'm alive and not knowing when I'll die instead of having a clock ticking over my head," He said with a small leer. With that said, they all returned to their respective tasks. If they had any hope of becoming human again, this night needed to get off without a problem. As they all worked and gossiped amongst themselves, Echo was surprised when Jay suddenly dragged him away from his work so they could talk privately. He almost stumbled over his own foot in his attempts to keep up with the faster male.
Again he cursed his youthful form.
He hated that his body had to freeze in time just as he was finally beginning to mature physically.
"Jay! We're almost by the dining hall!" The boy cried as he dug the heels of his boots into the stone of the floor, kicking up the rug as he did so, forcing Jay to stop and turn around, but he didn't release his hold on Echo's hand.
"You said you wanted to tell me something? Well out with it? I don't want to be away from the ballroom for too long."
"We won't be that long," Jay smirked.
"Don't even think about it." Echo growled and blushed.
"Actually, I wasn't, I just want to ask you something very important." Jay laughed. Echo crossed his arms and straightened himself.
"Well?" He asked impatiently. Jay took a breath and stiffened his back.
"Will you do me the honors of being my date for the ball? Not as a friend or as a companion but as mine and no one else's?" He asked with a sweet smile. Echo swore he felt his footing slip like the ground was about to give way beneath him.
"P-P-Pardon?"
"I want us to go to the ball together, where everyone will know we're together if they don't already," Jay replied as his serious eyes betrayed his normally perky expression, but it told Echo he had never been more certain of anything before.
"You really want to take me?" He asked, his voice was shaking, but from what he wasn't sure.
"Of course, I do, I love you, and let's face it we can't hide this forever, and I honestly don't want to." Jay smiled. Before Jay could say anything else, a force like a wrecking ball plowed into his chest with such vigor it knocked the wind from his chest and sent him reeling to the floor.
"Do you even have to ask me?" Echo giggled as he hugged him so tightly, Jay swore he felt one of his ribs crack, but the younger boy didn't notice it in his enthusiasm. Tears of bliss welled in Echo's eyes. "Of course I will Jay!" He exclaimed as he jumped off Jay and grabbed his hand. Jay stumbled forward as his little lover now dragged him back through the castle, impossibly fast for the boy's short stature.
"Now I have to make sure the ballroom is spectacular! I'm going to make this a night no one forgets!" Echo sang the entire trip back to the ballroom, Jay stumbling and laughing behind him...

--
it’s not surprising that this had become a routine for the two of you. at least in the sense that it didn’t feel unnatural despite the tingly feeling you got from the closeness of nearly brushing shoulders, and sometimes fingertips whenever you walked him to the gym before practice. there was no filter in a conversational sense in your friendship with the boy, definitely not, with the way he could tell whatever you were thinking no matter how hard you tried to conceal your thoughts, making it pointless for you to not tell him anything.
despite possessing guessing skills beyond normal human capability though, tendou still had his fair share of traits that brought him back to earth. one of them being his lack of experience when it came to love. sure, he read manga and fanboyed over his favorite actresses but that wasn’t enough to prepare him for confrontation with the awkwardness of teenage love. you knew that much to come to the conclusion that he didn’t know about your secret crush on him. you accepted it for a while, until now. part of you wanted him to find out so that you could at least get rid of the ambiguous tension that made your stomach turn and heart race.
“hey (y/n)-chan your birthday is tomorrow isn’t it?” tendou’s voice causes you to temporarily push your thoughts to the side.
“yeah, it is.” you reply. “what, did you only just remember?” you laugh and he raises an eyebrow, chuckling. he lightly karate chops your shoulder in a repetitive motion.
“oh c’mon what kind of friend do you think i am? how could i ever forget when you always used to pester me about it when we were little?”
“satori that was a long time ago!” you smack his arm. “look at you bringing up the past to make me look bad, such a good friend you are.”
the two of you approach the doors to the gym, still bickering, drawing attention to the other third years. semi rolls his eyes, and leon just laughs knowingly.
“aw semisemi you’re just jealous that (y/n) is MY best friend and not yours!” tendou taunts his fellow teammate while wrapping his arm around your shoulder. you blush at the gesture, being put in the spotlight in a positive way by the one you yearned for, being shown off by him.
“whatever, tendou practice is about to start so tell your girlfriend that you’ll see her later.” you flush even harder at the mention of the word girlfriend, daydreaming about a day where you could officially hold that title at all times and not just in a fleeting remark made my someone else other than him.
tendou turns around to face you, ruffling your hair. “i’ll see you later to-be birthday girl.” he heads off. you were used to him ruffling your hair but now the lingering feeling of him having let his hand touch you for longer than usual made your heart squeeze. you quickly brushed it off though in order to not be noticed by his teammates and head back to your dorm to get your homework done before your special day.

your eyes flutter open at the sound of your phone going off on your nightstand. your annoyance from having been woken up at midnight immediately goes away upon reading the caller id: ‘my miracle boy <3′
“(y/n)-chan!!!! happy happy birthday!” tendou’s voice rings from the other line. “come out to the field, i have something for you!”
“satori, thank you so much but, we’re gonna get in trouble!” you chide.
“c’mon, it’s your birthday! fuck school rules and let loose!”
you sigh, before getting out of bed. “fine, i’ll be right there. but if we get caught i’m blaming you.”
after changing out of your pajamas and putting your shoes on quietly, so as to not wake up your roommate, you make your way over to the field, not having to rely on any directions since it was you and his spot. however, this was the first time he had ever invited you to sneak out, causing anticipation to bubble up in your stomach.
you find tendou sitting in the middle of the grass, appearing to be holding something in his lap. he turned to you at the sound of your footsteps, grinning widely, and hides the item that was in his lap behind his back as you take a seat next to him.
“i have a surprise for you~” tendou brings out a bento box in a floral yellow wrap, singing happy birthday in that cute, excited tone that you could never get enough of. you gasp as you open it up to find an assortment of onigiri with smiley faces on them and a chocolate cupcake that he baked himself.
“satori,” you sigh happily, grabbing one of the onigiri. “you didn’t have to, oh my gosh thank you so much.” he chuckles softly as you dig into your snacks.
“how could i not make a bento box for my foodie friend’s birthday?” he playfully flicks your shoulder. “c’mon, don’t be silly (y/n)-chan~”
after going through all of the onigiri in a flash, tendou grabs a fake candle from his pocket and places it on the cupcake.
“i couldn’t bring a real lighter to school, so this fake little thing is gonna have to work as a substitute for now. make a wish~” he watches you close your eyes and clasp your hands together before blowing out the fake fire from the candle. he applauds at the end, making you giggle.
“oh satori, we’re 18 and you’re still an expert in pretend play. you’ll never grow up will you?”
“now now i’m not the one who just turned one year older today, stop making this about me!”
you continue to banter with him while eating your cupcake, even giving him a little piece as an apology for poking fun at him.
silence befalls you two after a while, and the night grows colder, causing you to snuggle up into his shoulder for warmth. you inhale a shaky, frosty breath before speaking again.
“satori,” tendou hums in response. “less than a year until we’re off to college huh?” the boy sighs pensively as he looks into the distance.
“i know. i’m still thinking about my plans since i know that i’m gonna quit volleyball after high school. i’m still unsure exactly about what i wanna do, but i know one thing for sure.”
“what’s that?” you raise an eyebrow.
your heart stops as he takes your hand and leans in closer, pressing his face against yours, breaths mingling.
“i wanna spend every moment of my future with you.” tendou whispers before pressing his lips to yours in a soft, gentle kiss. the tender movements of his lips against yours plus the surprise gesture makes you dizzy and you wrap your arms around his neck to pull him closer, to feel him, to ensure that this isn’t a dream and that your crush for as long as you can remember was actually kissing you.
the contact is brief, but your foreheads remain pressed together after breaking the kiss, breaths mingling from the ministrations.
“satori,” you breathe out. “i-i,” he hushes you with a kiss to your cheek.
“i know you like me and i like you too. i’ve known all along. i just wanted to make my confession special so i waited until your birthday.”
you gape at him. “y-you knew?”
“(y/n)-chan we’ve been friends since elementary school, i, the guess monster can definitely read you like a book. and i also know exactly what to do to catch you off guard.” he smirks.
still taken aback, you hug him tightly with a smile, and he kisses your forehead as he holds you in his arms.
“well, what a way to surprise me and make my wish come true, my birthday miracle boy.”
