taking a moment to add my two cents i think
#i am awake because sitting up prevents me from coughing as much it seems#my hot take of the evening is i think that a lot of people who resent literary analysis just didn't get proper scaffolding#when they were exposed to it#i think a lot of people had english teachers who didn't know how to properly structure their instruction and just let kids loose#sending them out onto the seemingly empty field of the page and then immediately lining them up in their crosshairs for judgement#or at least my english teacher was a lot like that#i think a lot of people perceive literary analysis as pointless frustrating right/wrong busy work#or some kind of painful arduous endeavor that rewards nothing#because their teachers effectively set it up to be just that#an effective literary analysis curriculum should involve modeling and repeated practice with frequent feedback#but i feel like so many english teachers when we were growing up just focused on lecture and then assessment#leaving a massive gap between what skills students come in with and what's expected of them#not only that but also i feel like the lack of relevance in literary content has a lot to do with it#i didn't especially enjoy proper literary analysis until i had a choice in what to analyze#and had consistent scaffolding to support the direction i wanted to go#i didn't write 23+ pages on kafka because it was a requirement--i wrote it because my professor got me invested in it and provided support#i think that's an issue with a lot of areas in education#thankfully it's changing (however slowly) but god. death to the lecture -> assessment model of instruction

Personal Assistant...
Yandere Fatui Harbingers x Dom Male Reader part 4
Part 3
Warnings: Degradation, cursing, an organ getting cut off
"What do you mean gone?! You better be pulling my leg here, Tartaglia!"
Dottore shouted at the ginger, not believing that his loyal assistant is gone from his room, surely the ginger was just bluffing to get a reaction out of him, right?!
The masked man was overthinking to the point that he was already marching over to (M/N)'s headquarters, along with the rest of the harbingers and the [alive] assistants. [yk, bc op died lmao, rip bozo]
The said male threw the door open, making a shelf full of plants fall down to the floor, dirtying it.
"Ah... Milords and miladies, what brings you here?"
(M/N) was quite startled that every harbinger was there- They even destroyed his plants! He was furious but nevertheless, he couldn't snap at them as he didn't want to die yet.
"My apologies, (M/N), Tartaglia informed us that you weren't in your room."
"Lord Pierro, Lord Tartaglia, I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I just took a shower. Sorry for the trouble."
"No worries, (M/N). It seems as though Tartaglia wasn't looking hard enough for you, how lazy."
Sandrone replied, eyeing Tartaglia up and down, she was mad at him for ruining her beauty sleep. As while Arlecchino sighed and shooed the others away, wanting some rest herself.
"Get some rest (M/N), apologies for barging in."
"It's no problem, Lord Capitano."
The harbinger nodded and went out of the room with the rest of them. It was quite weird that all of them went to (M/N)'s room altogether though.
Two days has passed and (M/N) was back to working with Dottore, nothing seemed too much out of the ordinary, just the usual when working with him; Experiments, delusion making, drugs, potions, visions(?), pills that make you tell the truth- Wait-
"Now tell me (M/N), where were you last night? Because I, for one, know that, that ginger wouldn't wake us all up just for a misunderstanding."
Dottore was standing in front of (M/N), while the male was sitting down at a chair, tied to a rope to prevent him from escaping.
"Lord Dottore, I was at my room, showering. Lord Tartaglia must've not seen me."
"Tell me the truth or I'll force it out of you."
He was slowly losing his patience, it would be a shame to kill a person who helps him with his experiments, he'll probably just leave him with... Permanent blindness in his right eye.
"My Lord, if I may be bold, I am telling the truth- AH-"
Dottore forcefully grabbed his chin and forced his mouth wide open to swallow the pill. It didn't take long for (M/N) to swallow the pill and cough harshly due to not having anything to push the pill down easily.
"Now tell me, for the love of Tsaritsa- Where have you been?"
"I was at- I was at Lord Scaramouche's hiding place-!"
It was quiet for a moment until Dottore grabbed (M/N)'s shirt and pulled him towards himself, he was seething in anger and if anyone were to enter the room right at this moment, they would be dead before they could even step another second.
"WHERE IS THE BALLADEER AT?! TELL ME YOU, STUPID PEASANT!"
"I don't- I don't know!"
Now (M/N) was trembling in fear, quite scared for his life as the masked man thrashed the lab, his creations being broken left and right. Everybody knew of Dottore's outbursts and it wasn't nearly as bad as this one, in fact, you could even say that this one was the worse out of all of them.
"WHERE IS HE?!"
"Sir- I told you, I do not know, he's always on the run!"
"YOU USELESS FUCK!"
He grabbed a- A FUCKING MACHETE?!!? jk
He grabbed a pocket knife and lodged it into (M/N)'s right eye and the tied-up male couldn't do anything but grunt out in extreme pain while trying to catch his breath and try his best to stay awake.
"You'll be cleaning up this mess once you wake up tomorrow morning. And you will be testing out this potion I made. Am I understood?"
(M/N) was confused but nonetheless, nodded and finally passed out due to lack of blood and exhaustion. . . . . . . . . . . . . . You didn't think that this was the end, did you?
Dottore picked up the passed-out male and took care of him swiftly before carrying him back to his room, putting him on the bed so he could recover comfortably.
He leaned in and whispered to his ear; "Just so you know, this experiment of mine will determine whether you'll die or not."
With that, he left the room with the injured male sleeping soundly.

Requesting for Zelda taking care of Link when he's sick 👀👀 thanks!
Livin' On A Prayer
Five words and everything else faded. She felt dizzy, her ears were buzzing, and her eyes were going out of focus. The doctor continued to talk but his words were unheard as she stared blankly in shock.
He wouldn’t last the week
He wouldn’t last the week
He wouldn’t last the week.
She forgot that the words “worst case scenario” came before them, she forgot the doctor was still talking, she forgot her children were listening until a small hand tugged on her shirt. She was thrust back into the moment.
Zelda looked over to her son, his green eyes so unlike hers, filled with intrigue instead of sadness, oozing with an innocence she almost regretted giving him.
“What’s happening in a week, momma?” The three-year old asked.
Zelda moved her lips and yet struggled to find the words, looking at the doctor across from her desperately. Tears formed in her speechlessness.
“Elyjah,” the doctor beckoned. “Come here.”
The little boy tottered over, the doctor placing his large hands on either of the boy’s small shoulders.
“Take your sister and go up the hill to Purah’s lab.”
They boy turned his head back around to his mother, who couldn’t bear to look him in the eye. If he knew something was wrong, he didn’t say a word about it, looking back at the doctor.
“Your mom will come to get you both before supper,” the doctor continued. “Can you do that?”
Elyjah nodded, and before Zelda knew it, he had taken Wendie’s hand and was downstairs and out the door.
Zelda looked down at the way her hands wrung as the doctor waited patiently for her next question. He had told her everything he could, but knew that in these types of situations, things often needed repeating.
“Is…” Zelda tried, but her voice was weak, broken and shaky, unrehearsed and improper. “…I-Is there anything that can be done to cure him…before…”
She couldn’t even finish.
Luckily, she didn’t need to for the doctor to understand what she was asking.
“Like I said, all treatments would be experimental.” He said. “But you and I both know that we are out of miracles, fairies have no affect and all common elixirs do nothing to stop the symptoms. Pretty soon the fluid in his lungs won’t let him breathe, and there won’t be anything we can do except be thankful that the tough elixirs I gave to you and your children prevented the spread of the disease.”
Zelda nodded.
“The uhm…” she attempted. “The enduring elixir that you’ve been giving him…that manages the symptoms, it has tireless frogs and monster parts, right?”
“That’s right,” the doctor said with a nod. “And I am currently experimenting with energetic rhino beetles and restless crickets to create something a bit stronger, perhaps even a more permanent cure, but as I said there is no guarantee, and if nothing works you’ll be a widow within…”
The doctor stopped himself, bit his tongue and cursed his bluntness, especially, since the green eyes that looked at him burned with an angry grief.
“I apologize,” the doctor said, standing up. “I will return tomorrow to check up on him. May Hylia bless him and your family.”
Zelda knew he meant that as a parting of reassurance as she leaned back with a sigh in the chair she sat, hearing the doctor depart from the house as she thought of how very little Hylia had to do with any of it.
“Zelda,” Link’s voice croaked. It sounded terribly painful and Zelda looked over immediately at the sound that meant Link had woken up.
“Link,” she said, rushing over to her husband’s side and taking his hand. His head looked over to meet her eyes, that filled with love as much as his. His blonde hair was unbrushed and tangled, let loose from the blue elastic he had begun to wear less frequently ever since the incident in the caves.
It all seemed like a lifetime ago.
“What did the doctor say?” Link asked, his voice even more broken than Zelda’s, hoarse and crumbly. His breathing was loud too, as if Zelda could hear his lungs fighting to breathe the wild again.
“N-nothing,” Zelda lied. “Nothing. E-everything’s fine.”
Link rolled his head so that he looked up at the ceiling.
“That bad, huh?”
Zelda took a deep breath into her next words.
“He thinks you will be gone within the week,” she said, and she couldn’t help but glance at the small white rags near him, that were dotted with flem with hues ranging from yellow to white, and even a couple that showed he was coughing up blood. Zelda shook her head, meaning to voice that she would stop this from happening but her inhale turned into a sob. Zelda dove her head into Link’s chest and cried tears that hiccuped her shoulders, that prompted Link to rest his good hand on her head.
“I won’t let this happen, Link,” Zelda said, her voice muffled. “I can’t, I…I-I’ll work day and night to find something…something that’s enough to cure…”
Her sobbing stopped her words, Link gently petting the hair on her head as he stared at the ceiling of their Hateno home.
He wasn’t ready to die, and he wasn’t ready to accept it either.
With his other arm he clutched her, hugged her, melted into her.
“You’ll find it,” he said. “And even if you don’t, it’s okay. This isn’t on you.”
Zelda retreated from the embrace, sniffling away her tears with no concern for wiping them away.
“You feel warm,” she said, taking the wet rag off his forehead. Link looked over to see her standing up. “I’ll replace this. Do you need anything else? Are you hungry? Thirsty? I should bring you water regardless.” She was on the verge of more tears but she steadily ignored it. “And food, I’ll make you a bunch of dishes you like. One of them is bound to be appetizing.”
“Zelda--”
“Then of course I’ll get back to researching a cure,” Zelda continued. “I’ll have the kids spend the night at Purah’s because it will be a long night for sure. Of course you need your rest.”
“Zelda,” Link asserted, squeezing her hand. He continued slowly, “you do too.”
Zelda shook her head, denying his insistence and pulling his wrist away so that his fingers let go of her hand.
“Not until you are better,” Zelda said, almost angry. Not angry at Link, but at the world, at her luck. It was one thing to be tortured by Calamity Ganon for 117 years, and then to find themselves in a true battle with him that separated them between earth and sky, but to get through all that for it to end here? She couldn’t fathom it.
She descended the stairs before Link could disagree, and spent the night pouring over every book, every journal, whether hers or Link’s, every spare footnote, and anything they could have forgotten.
When the sun rose the next day, blanketing her in a warm, golden glow, the entire kitchen table was covered in books and notes. And yet the one she used as her pillow was a very old journal, from Link’s first venture around Hyrule after emerging from the shrine of resurrection.
Although Zelda was sound asleep, the words “Medicinal Molduga” seemed to have been circled before she conked out. Whether it was because she let herself sleep or because she simply was overtaken by fatigue, the doctor had no idea, treading into their Hateno home after knocking and hearing no response.
“Miss,” he said shaking her shoulder. “Miss I think we’ve done it, Miss.”
“What?” Zelda said as her eyes fluttered open, her head slowly lifting from where it gave her a great creak in the neck. She looked over.
“Doctor Grey,” she said with narrow, tired eyes that tried to block out the sunlight. “What are you doing here?”
“I did it,” he said excitedly, almost too excitedly for so early in the morning. He sat down at a nearby chair. “I figured it out. A procedure that can safely drain the fluid from his lungs. All I needed was something to kill the infection afterwards and…I think you just figured it out.”
“I did what?” Zelda said, obviously still half-awake, her eyes closing and opening lethargically.
“See right here,” the doctor said. “You circled Molduga. I never thought to use that as medicine before but the way their stomach acids are constructed might just work as an antibacterial agent. It’s so obvious.”
“I don’t remember doing that at all,” Zelda said, shaking her head, looking at the old journal before it actually came together in her head. “Wait, are...are you telling me…”
The doctor nodded.
“Yes,” he said. “There’s a chance. Do you have any Molduga guts here?”
“Oh, of course,” Zelda said, standing up quickly and shuffling through drawers desperately and haphazardly. “We always have something of everything.”
In the last drawer she saw it, their salvation, some green goop she once thought nothing of. She smiled, she cried, and after she sent the doctor along with the guts the prepare for the procedure, she woke up Link and kissed him, kissed him like she did when they reunited for good, when they married, when they had their children, and every other milestone after that, whether small or big.
And later that day, when the procedure was successful and his symptoms were fading, she kissed him like that again. She could breathe a breath of relief when Link proved to have the strength to sit up and truly kiss her back for the first time in a month.
Instances where I've done something similar to your prompt because that was probably disappointing:

pirate king (4) || atz
Tumblr media
You’re sitting at a tiny cove.
Your legs swing along the rocky ledge of the cliff you are on, dangling into the water. Beneath you, the water sparkles like liquid emeralds. Bright, colorful fish dart here and there around your feet and you laugh.
You leap down and there’s a splash, you’re waist deep in water. You move forward and forward until you’ve reached the mouth of the cove and the water comes up to your chin.
You close your eyes, take a deep breath, and submerge yourself.
Something soft and gentle brushes its way along your arms and you giggle underwater, bubbles escaping your mouth, but it’s of no concern to you. The soft arms caress you gently, as if you’re a precious treasure to them. You open your eyes.
Something stares back at you, glowing the colour of blood. It’s massive, almost twice your size, radiating some sort of curious light in the middle of the dark mass it’s in. Then it hits you.
It’s a single, unblinking eye.
You jerk awake with cold sweat running down your back and immediately regret it as you feel your head split in half from a sharp throbbing in your head. You groan, keeping your eyes tightly shut as you cradle your head in your hands, waiting for the pain to subside.
Something tugs lightly at your shoulder. No, not rope. Cloth? You start to panic when you realize that you are no longer tied to the mast.
Are they intending to kill you now?
“Ah, you’re awake.”
Your eyes fly open and you immediately shy away from the voice, pressing against the wall next to you. Your legs instinctively curl up to your body and you let out a cry of pain as your ankle knocks into wood.
“Don’t move, idiot.”
You look up to see the man talking to you. He’s tall and lightly built, dressed in a simple, oversized tunic and knee length shorts. Around his neck are a few silver chains, with strange symbols you don’t recognise, and his hair is a soft grey-green. Everything about him throws you off, he feels soft and reserved, nothing like a pirate.
Then you see the short dagger strapped to his left thigh.
You press against the wall more tightly, turning your face away from him. If he’s going to kill you, it might be more bearable if you can’t see it coming. You feel the tiny rocking of ocean waves.
“My name is Choi San, but you can just call me San.” The man begins to introduce himself, seating himself in a chair opposite you. You’re in a bed, you realize, as he continues to speak. “I’m the healer on board the Treasure, so I was responsible for treating your wounds. It’s admirable how you managed to keep quiet about a badly twisted ankle, an infected musket wound and a raging fever all at once.” There's something unsaid left in his voice.
You swallow.
“Especially for a woman.”
You freeze, all movement ceasing in a single second. Your hands unconsciously move up to your chest, only to find it unbound underneath a couple of layers of fabric.
Oh shit.
You’re definitely going to be shark food now.
“I haven’t told Hongjoong yet, if that’s what you were wondering.”
Your head whips around to stare at him in shock. His expression hasn’t changed the least, he still wears the same unreadable, blank face and you can’t tell whether he’s joking or he’s being serious. He has no reason not to report to the captain his findings, so why?
“It’s not my business that Hongjoong-ie is so blind he can’t tell the difference.” The healer leans back in a sturdy wooden chair, steepling his fingers with a calm gaze. You can’t tell whether that is comforting or terrifying. “Besides, I have a cat’s nature and I find my curiosity difficult to satisfy. So, if your story entertains me enough, I may keep your little secret from the captain. But I can see that you’re bursting to ask questions, so ask away.”
“Who undressed me?” Are the first words that tumble from your mouth. San chuckles at your question.
“Me.”
You groan in embarrassment and hide your face in your hands, unable to face him anymore. He snickers in amusement, and even though you can’t see it, his smile dimples his cheeks.
“No need to feel shy.” The man remarks, even though you can hear the mirth lingering in his voice. “I didn’t look. I just changed your bandages daily for the last two days.”
“I’ve been asleep for two days? That doesn’t make it any better.” Your words are muffled behind your fingers and you know your cheeks are tinged pink. “It’s still embarrassing.”
“I had to check you over for injuries.” San explains logically as you peer at him between the cracks in your fingers. “Who knows what else you might be hiding? I cleaned your wounds with salt water solution and bandaged you. As for your ankle, I splinted it with driftwood but don’t expect to walk normally for the next five to ten days or so.”
You gulp. Five days is more than you can afford.
“Is the captain going to throw me overboard?”
“As if I’d let him.” San’s complete indifference to Hongjoong’s authority surprises you, but you suppose even the captain needs to be on a healer’s good side in case he ever gets injured. This explains the sizable room and bed for the healer. Still, the informal way he addresses his captain is a little shocking. “He’s not going to waste all that effort I put into treating you. I used the last of my marigold petal antiseptic on your arm and he’d better get me more at Tortuga.”
You manage to stifle the tiny giggle that leaves your mouth, but San hears it anyways. He smiles slightly. “So, what’s your name?”
You pause, then answer as truthfully as possible.
“I don’t remember.”
To your surprise, San doesn’t try to call you a liar or force you to tell him some other answer. Instead he ponders your words carefully.
“That’s a common symptom among those who have head injuries. I was just telling Yeosang about them a few days ago.” You don’t know who Yeosang is, but you nod in understanding. You’re a little relieved that he seems to believe you, but is this a ploy to make you lower your guard? “They’re short term, but the memories usually come back after a few days or weeks. I don’t think I’ve met many who’ve forgotten their own identities though. Those usually die a few days after.”
“What?” You choke and suddenly you start coughing, your throat dry and scratchy. San reaches for a mug you hadn’t noticed before on his desk and passes it to you, filled with a fragrant green tinted liquid you don’t recognize. You can’t hide your suspicious look.
“It’s jasmine green tea.” San explains as he sits down again. “It’s helps calm the nerves and is also a fantastic cleaning solution for wounds as it prevents infection, but I prefer drinking it. My shipmates would rather ingest grog.” He sniffs in distaste and shakes his head. “Hongjoong knows what’s good for him, though. We’ve stayed in the cove for a couple days more because some of the scouting parties found tea leaves growing on one of the hills nearby. The rest are hunting deer with Shiber so we can have fresh venison tonight. It makes a nice change from eating preserved food all the time.”
As he continues to ramble about how some of the crew have started setting out nets to catch some fresh fish, you take a sip of the tea. It’s a little bitter with a warm, grassy flavor. You don’t enjoy it very much, but the next available option, grog, sounds even more unpalatable, so you choose to down the whole mug.
San pauses in his talking to nod his approval. “You’re a smart one. Anyway, as I was saying, the men usually die soon, but that’s because of internal bleeding in the skull. I found blood clots when I cut their heads open.”
You almost spit out the tea. “You cut their what open?”
The healer shrugs. “They’re already dead, so they don’t feel a thing.” When you continue to give him dubious, horrified looks, he starts to explain. “It’s for medical research! What I’m trying to say is, they don’t die because they lose their memories, they die because of the wound that caused them to lose their memories. From what I can see, you don’t have any such wound.”
“That’s reassuring.” You manage to say, thumping your chest. San nods.
“Captain said you claimed to have woken up in a prison cell in Raguza, am I correct?” He asks and you nod. San seems like a kind person and is the only one who is willing to help you. Then you pause.
“Raguza?” You repeat, unfamiliar with the name. San dismisses it with a wave.
“The town we raided a few days ago.” He explains, before carrying on. “He also said that you claimed to have no memory of how you came to be wearing the coat of a Royal Navy officer.”
You nod hesitantly. Even you’re aware of how unbelievable your story sounds. But San seems to be taking all of this in stride, better than you are, at least.
“Well, you could either be a skilled liar, insane, or telling the truth.”
You open your mouth to protest that nothing that has come out of your mouth has been a lie so far, but he holds up a hand to stop you. Your mouth closes with an audible clop.
“If you are a liar and are simply a spy of the Royal Navy here to steal the navigational maps, you must be a terrible one to present such a ridiculous story.” You try to protest again, but he continues. “From what I gather of my conversation with you, you are too sound of mind to be mad. So that only leaves me with one option. You are telling the truth.”
Just like that?
Something in you breaks down in relief and your shoulders sag. You’ve known that the whole time, that you’ve been telling the truth, that you have no memories. But suddenly, you’re not alone. Now, somebody believes you.
Someone understands.
You don’t even realize you’re crying until San reaches forward to brush the tears from your eyes. His fingers are gentle and warm, like Seonghwa’s hands. Then you start.
“Did Seonghwa bring me here? Where are we?” You look around the room you are in. You’re sitting on one of the two small beds in the cramped cabin, the shelves along the walls overflowing with written text, books and boxes with messily scribbled labels. There’s a small wooden table in the middle, a stack of paper in danger of falling off the side, and several stalks of dried plants on its surface. Opposite you is a wooden door.
“We’re in my cabin. You’re currently in Seonghwa’s bed. He offered to bed down with the rest of the crew until you recover.” San hesitates. “As for who brought you here… he asked not to be mentioned. It wasn’t Seonghwa.”
A frown tugs at your lips. Besides the kindly cook, who else would take any sympathy on you to come drag you here in the middle of a rainstorm? San shakes his head and gets to his feet.
“Don’t think too much about it.” Before you can protest, he moves over to the table and retrieves a small wooden box, opening its clasp. “Anyway, I was intending on returning this to you once you woke up.”
A thin, silver chain dangles from his fingers, at the end of which is a tiny, clear cut crystal. Small, delicately wrought silver leaves hold the crystal in place, and your mouth falls open in awe as San presses it into your hand. A kaleidoscope of reflected colors fall on your palm.
“It’s beautiful.” You breathe, lifting your hand to inspect the gem. San’s head cocks to the side in confusion.
“That is not the response I was hoping for, considering that I took it from your neck when I was undressing you.” He frowns, and your eyes widen in surprise.
“From me? As in, it was around my neck the whole time and I didn’t notice it?” You babble and San nods. He taps the largest silver leaf with a finger.
“Look at this carefully.”
There’s an inscription in the lid, beneath a carving of an elaborate swirl. You squint to make out the minuscule words.
I will be with you every step of the way.
You pause in shock at the revelation.
From before you lost your memories, from before you came to be in that tiny prison cell, you were not alone. If you just find the person who gave you this, you’ll know who you were before.
“You should keep it with you.” Gently, San takes the necklace from your hands and clasps it behind your neck. You’re silent in wonder, fingering the tiny crystal that nestles in the center of your chest. “Now, I should really go check on Wooyoung’s arm before he starts whining again.” He rises to his feet. “Do you have any last questions?”
“Is the captain really not going to throw me overboard?” You manage, gripping the tiny crystal in hand. At this, San really laughs.
“No. Although he did burn the Royal Navy coat you were wearing and tossed the ashes into the sea.” The healer replies as he plucks a small jar of ointment from a shelf. “If you give him no reason to kill you, he won’t.”
“Being alive seems to be reason enough to him.” You mutter unhappily under your breath, tucking yourself under the covers once more. Your eyelids are getting heavy once again. “The captain really hates the Royal Navy, doesn’t he? Why?”
Out of the corner of your eye, you see San shrug as he pulls a leather sling bag over his shoulder. “He has good reason to, but it’s not my story to tell.”
Then he crosses over to you and tucks the blankets a little more securely around you. His grey eyes are soft.
“Go to sleep. I’ll come back and tend to you later.” San’s voice is gentle and melodic, like a lullaby.
You close your eyes, still clasping the small crystal in your hand. “Okay.” You murmur in reply, pulling the blanket closer around you. “Just for a while more, then.”
You don’t wake up till a day later.

I am soft for kid Kai and Pops interactions. Could you please try writing pops and reader taking care of a sick Kai as a kid. I wonder if he would be the same difficult patient as you have written him as an adult. I enjoy your writing and would love seeing your take on it.
Tumblr media
"I hate this. It feels like death." Just at the end of the sentence, the boy had a coughing fit as the elder sighed out loud at his stubbornness, wringing the towel wet with icy water before placing it on the sick boy's forehead.
"Stop being overdramatic Chisaki. Is just a flu. Nothing to mourn over." The boy growled back at the elder before he pulled the covers up with the best force he could manage it.
... until he sneezed and overhauled the blanket to mere pieces.
"Well, at least is only the third one until now..." the old man chuckled before frowning at how abruptly Chisaki was trembling... poor thing.
"I wanna die..." the boy mumbled as he again come up with a new blanket as Popps chuckled.
"What happened to the prideful future leader of the yakusa?" He chuckled at the glare Kai gave to him "Will you at least collaborate on getting better?"
"Just make this go away for once."
Pops only shook his head and grabbed the bottle the doctor recommended to give to Kai and one spoon before poking shaking his shoulder.
"Cmon. Sit up boy, let's end this." Just when his golden fuccy eyes locked with the bottle he inky narrowed his gaze at the elder and turned his head away from him.
"You're kidding me arent you kid?" Pops arched one eyebrow. Kai only mumbled something incoherent as Pops's one vein appeared.
"Take. This. Medicine. Chisaki Kai."
"Try me."
Pops chuckled at the audacity of this kid before calling one of his subbordinates.
"Bring Chisaki's little friend that I guess it will ease down him just a bit while I stay."
"Yes sir." And with that the man walked out of the room and closing the door. Pops only gave the boy a look as Chisaki only glared back.
"You will take this boy."
"Heck no."
.
.
.
"Thank you so much Yukuchi-san!" You bowed to the man as he left you to enter the room... widening your eyes at the scene as Pops had one of his hands on Chisaki's chin to force open as Kai gritted anos teeth together and holded the man's hand with the spoon far away from him, miraculously not spilling the green liquid on it.
"Uh... What's happening?" You asked as both looked at you, Pops with a relieved look and Chisaki with wide eyes.
Just when he opened his mouth to say your name, Pops chugged the spoon on his mouth.
You flinched at the shout Chisaki gave the elder as soon as he manage to swallow but soon he put his hand on his mouth as if he wanted to puke.
"Dont you dare puke this after all the work I had to do.."
"tHAT'S BECAUSE THIS SHIT IS DISGUSTING!" the kid almost puked again at the end and he sighed before looking at you with grateful and welcoming grey eyes
"Hello (Y/n)-chan. I apologize that you couldn't see Chisaki those days but as you can see-"
Chisaki brutal series of sneezes broke the elder's talking and as soon as he finished Kai had the most tired out look and plopped back down, lying on his bed miserably.
"He is incredible sick and wont follow his dad's orders no manner how much I try to. You know how prideful he cam be." You giggled at the funny look that Pops before Kai groaned.
"I'm sick yet not dead old geezer."
"See." Pops showed his hand at the sick kid "He becomes so grumpy that even I cant handle it sometimes... " he sighed before crouchind down to whisper to you "Care to give him some company as I go make sure my subbordinates did already the dinner? You can be his nurse and besides, my boy holds a soft spot only for you."
"Really?!" You whispered in exciment as Pops nodded and chuckled, patting your head while getting up as Chisaki chuffed... coughing later.
"I will be back soon. Obey to (Y/n) Chisaki."
"You're kidding?" He muttered before sighing when the elder closed the door. Closing his eyes a bit and when opening them again when he heard you walking towards his bed and sitting next to his body.
"How you're feeling?" You asked and Chisaki glassy and gold eyes locked with yours as if you were the most stupid creature in the world.
"What do you-" he coughed on his hand "Think?"
"Not good." You giggled "Sorry."
He stayed quiet before looking away from you. Praying mentally that the blush on his pale cheeks on his fever.
He stiffed when you took off the towel off from his forehead, he jolted away from your touch as you widened your eyes at his distressed state.
"Sorry Kai..." you mumbled as he went to scold you to touch him before another coughing fit hitted.
You hesitantly rubbed his back while he coughed as he looked at you with teary eyes later.
"What are you-" he coughed "-doing? You're going to get sick you idiot." You smiled at him and simply and gently brushed his bangs out of his wet forehead.
"Well, I can deal with it later. After all my mom said I have a good immune system! Different from yours!"
"Take that back before I-" he sneezed so violently that some snot come out of his nose. His face went white in horror at the snot it dropped on his hand... hives immediately started to appear on his face and arms. He started to pant before feeling your hand on his shoulder and offering him a napkin.
"Its okay..." you cooed and he hesitantly grabbed the napkin and started to rub on his hand and under his nose.
"My head..." he groaned after cleaning the snot out, clenching on both sides of his head, tears started to form before he felt warm... arms around him as his head was met with the crook of your neck.
"My parents usually hug me when I feel distress... sorry if it bothers you, but it helps sometimes being held." You mumbled.
His heart skipped one beat on his chest... how warm and invinting you were. Heavens forbid that you found out how many times his mind was invaded by thoughts of you. Your laugh, your smile... hell, your touch. He despised touch, but yours... just seemed so... heavenly. A blessing.
And... oh god he was falling. He fell on your lap. And your giggles didn't helped his embarrassment either but he was so weak and tired that he simply allowed your fingers on his scalp to ease him to a slumber.
"Dont think this will be a constant thing..." he mumbled as his eyes though to stay awake.
"You're such a baby when you're sick Kai." You giggled as he grumbled and prefered to bury his face on your tummy.
.
.
.
He awoke to the sound of the door clicking open and he quickly shot up from your lap as the elder brought some food.
"I see you got some rest finally boy." He put the tray on the bed as he sniffled. The effect of the medicine finally kicking despite him taking a nap.
"I know you dont hold a liking on soups but is the best way to sooth a sore throat." He ruffle Chisaki's hair as he only could grumble a thanks.
"Thanks for coming today (Y/n)-chan. I think your parents must be worried now, I will call a subbordinate of mine to carry you home and-"
"NO!" He shouted, only feeling mortified at the shock look Pops and you gave to him.
Well, screw his youthful pride.
"Chisaki, (Y/n) has to-"
"N-not yet. Is... early... and I can't.." he tried to form words before you laughed, causing his cheeks to turn vermillion red.
"Can I call my parents to stay a bit longer Pops?" You smiled up at the elder as he looked at the embarrassed boy and chuckled.
"Well, I dont why not."
The boy felt a tingle of relief and happines growing on his chest as you crawled back on bed on his side.
"You want feeding too?" You giggled as he immediatly snatched the spoon and glared at you.
"Dont push your luck." He went to take the soup and flinched at how hot it was, which left Pops with a unused look.
"Next time blow it kid."
.
.
.
He felt he could even do a backflip on the other day.
When he got out of his room, Chisaki got called by Pops when he was almost on his way out to school.
"Hey brat. Looking better I see. You needed a special medicine so eh?" The man chuckled at how red Chisaki got before tsking and rolling his eyes, his grip tightening on his backpack
"Hate to tell ya kid, but just preventing you throw a fit in your school, (Y/n)-chan wont be attending today."
".. care to explain?" The boy tried to contain his shock and worry as Pops sighed and turned off the phone.
"Got the flu."
This fucking idiot-
.
.
.
You coughed before sneezing on a napkin and throing on the trash along with many others.
Suddenly your door burst open as you gasped at Chisaki abruptly throwing some bags of medices and other things you didn't know yet.
"K-Kai what the-"
"I told you were getting sick." He spoke under his mask while putting on gloves and grabbing one chair and sitting near your bed. Arms crossed and a look that send you shivers "Good imune system huh?"
"Hey at least you look better!" You exclaimed before sneezing on the napkin you grabbed quickly.
You saw through blurry vision the way he furrowed his eyebrows and picking a bag and putting on your lap, evicting eye contact as always.
You giggled and opened only to gasp at seing your favorite dessert there.
"Kai... you didn't had to." You spoke as Kai only shrugged and sitted back on the chair.
"Better be grateful for it you brat."
"We have the same age or close to Kai..." you deadpanned as he only glared back at you more.
"Eat."
You only lifted up your hands in surrender until his phone started to buzz on his pocket... picking up and answering the call he had to get his phone away from his ear from the yelling.
"CHISAKI KAI DID YOU DITCH CLASSES-?!"

Summer of Whump Day 12: Death
Fandom: Naruto
Rating: T
Pairing: Hatake Kakashi/Umino Iruka, pre-relationship.
WC: ~1560
Warnings: Graphic Depictions of Violence; attempted murder staged as suicide
Notes: GDV warning is conservative.
A/N: What are Motives, anyway. I just want to hurt these boys, who cares about Reasons. Also like, I am literally incapable of killing my whumpees BUT I will get them very. very close. And make everyone think they're dead.
~
Kakashi does everything he can to keep himself steady as he runs on the water, leading the charge into Water territory. The ANBU team following him keep their distance; all except Tenzō, who keeps pace just behind Kakashi’s shoulder.
“We’ll save him, senpai.”
The landmark mentioned in the ransom note is in view as Tenzō says this. Kakashi puts on a burst of speed.
Mist has had Iruka for a fortnight. Maybe they’ll get him back, but gods, in what condition?
~
“Number One reported Konoha shinobi closing in. The Copy-nin leads them.”
Iruka tries to hold back his wince, but this group has been nothing but honest about their intentions since he arrived in their camp. Spend the weeks they had with him making him wish he were dead, and then, when Konoha finally sends a retrieval team, granting that wish. For days, Iruka has held out hope that he could survive this. Now, his life has a definite endpoint.
Less than an hour.
“Perfect,” their boss says. He looks back at Iruka, along with the rest of the group; their toothy grins send chills down his spine. Iruka hasn’t caught any of their names. They’ve been careful to call each other by numbers, and the numbers seem to change from day to day; this one, though, the one with long, straight, white hair and teeth like a shark, was always boss.
Iruka’s wrists are torn up with rope burn, tied as they are against his lower back. Another length of rope leads from a meter-high post to a crude leather collar, tagged and sealed around his neck. If his hands were free, he could undo the seal on the collar with ease; without the tags around his neck, he could have fought back enough to eventually free his hands. Together, Iruka couldn’t rig a way out of the situation. The rope from the collar gives him enough slack to lay down if he needs to rest, but the Mist nin have never untied his wrists after the first time they made that mistake.
There had been seven of them, originally. Iruka is proud of the fact that there’s only five, a fortnight later; sealed and bound, they hadn’t thought he would be a threat.
Now, though, with minutes ticking down, Iruka had to find some other way to get out.
The Boss towers over him, and commands over his shoulder, “Tanto.” He holds out his hand while one of the lackeys (Three, today; yesterday, he was One—there doesn’t seem to be a pattern Iruka can figure out) places a sheathed tanto into his palm.
Iruka swallows his fear and speaks through it. “So, what? After all this, you’re just going to stab me? That’s how you grant the great wish of death for your captives?”
“Oh, this isn’t for you,” the Boss says. He makes a show of unsheathing the tanto, letting it gleam in the light from the gas lamps. Shrugging, nonchalant, he continues, “Well, I suppose in a way, it is. But really, it’s for Hatake.”
Iruka says nothing, waiting for the rest of the monologue.
“Boss, how’re we gonna get him to do it? It’s not like—”
“Shut up, Two.” The boss steps closer to Iruka, goes on one knee so they’re the same height, and says, “Listen, you can either do this yourself, or we can do it for you and stage it.”
Iruka shakes his head slowly. “I don’t—”
“You’ve been denying it the whole time, but we know you and Hatake are involved.” He sneers, “Lovers, even.”
“We’re not.” The denial comes quick and easy because it’s true. They hadn’t… Kakashi hasn’t even asked him out yet. They’re still dancing around each other, flirting and testing the waters.
“Yeah, yeah,” the Boss waves him off. “So anyway. Hatake’s father committed seppuku. Imagine what it’ll do to him to see his lover gone the same way.” He casually swings the tanto toward Iruka’s neck, then drags it over his chest and down to his navel.
“It will destroy him,” Iruka whispers, knowing that the Boss wants a response and finding himself incapable of keeping the horror inside.
“And the greatest weapon Konohagakure has ever cultivated will snap,” the Boss snapped the fingers on his free hand for emphasis, “just like that. Moving in and stealing the secrets and remaining strengths of Konoha will be a breeze with Hatake off the roster.”
“I won’t help you do this,” Iruka shakes his head. “Stage it all you want, but I will not go along quietly.”
"Suit yourself," the boss says, and slides the tanto into Iruka's belly, holding his shoulder with the other hand.
Iruka gasps, grunts; blood works its way up his throat and he coughs it out into the Boss’s neck. His arms tense behind him like he could fight back if only—but then the bastard drags the tanto up through organs and tissue to settle just underneath his ribcage.
He cries out. Blood stains his lap and the collar bites into his neck as he tries to lean forward and curl around the wound. Number Four cuts the bonds on his wrists and safely disarms the tags, pocketing them.
They leave the collar on him, but untie it from the post.
The Boss takes his hands and places one below the guard of the tanto, the other he lets Iruka cup around the blade. The wound is so large.
His pulse is fluttering behind his eyes.
They let him fall to the side, clutching the tanto. They cheer as they run away, regarding each other with a job well done.
I have to hold on, Iruka thinks, desperate to stay awake while blood loss and his weakening blood pressure pull him down into death. If nothing else, Kakashi needs to know I didn’t do this to myself…
~
As per instructions, the team plus Kakashi waits by the landmark for ten minutes. The second the tenth minute passes, Kakashi is on the move again, following his nose to the overwhelming smell of blood he’s praying isn’t Iruka’s. Tenzō is beside him again, and he knows he’s worrying the team but he can’t—
“Senpai, wait. Let me go first.”
“No.”
Kakashi pushes through the door they’ve found, and the smell punches him and makes him tense. But across the room is a post, and between him and it is a large table, and just at the edge of the table he can see a pair of bare feet tucked together.
He vaults the table and is beside Iruka’s body before he realizes it. And gods, did Iruka know he fell in the same position as Sakumo or was it staged to—
“...Ka..ka—?”
“MEDIC!”
The ANBU medic flashes to them, immediately beginning their mystical palm jutsu. The green light fills the space, and Kakashi lets himself relax just a bit.
He shifts so he’s at Iruka’s head, sees an ugly brown leather collar tight on his neck, and gently pulls on the buckle so he can slip it off. Iruka sighs when it’s gone; Kakashi throws it across the room, satisfied with the thunk it makes when it hits the opposite wall.
“Kakashi-san,” the medic, Otter, calls for him, “I can stabilize him, but we need to get back to Konoha with haste. He’ll need surgery to prevent long-term damage.”
“Then we move,” Kakashi says.
“I need to remove the tanto and heal that as much as possible first,” they continue.
“Also, we have the additional orders to remove the threat that took Iruka-sensei in the first place,” Rat says. He continues, “Cat and I can do that while you and Otter take care of the sensei.”
“That sounds—”
“There’s five of ‘em left,” Iruka grits.
Kakashi hushes him, putting a hand on his cheek. “Please, sensei, save your strength. Otter can fix you, but not if you keep making a bigger mess for them.”
“I—”
Iruka passes out and doesn’t finish. Kakashi leans in and listens, but his pulse is fluttering and he’s still breathing, so he sighs and sits back.
He looks up at Tenzō, who clearly doesn’t want to leave him, and says, “Your team, your call, Cat. Just keep Iruka from dying for now and I’ll follow you.”
Tenzō nods. He addresses the team, “Rat and I will pursue. Otter and Kakashi will begin the trek back to Konoha, with the priority of keeping Iruka-sensei alive and getting back as soon as possible.”
There are nods of agreement, and then the team breaks in half.
~
Hours later, they’re out of Water country and Kakashi is holding Iruka against his chest in front of the banked fire. Otter is resting across the way, having spent much of their chakra between travel and healing today.
Iruka stirs. Kakashi holds him tighter, and when Iruka murmurs, “Water,” he’s quick to uncap his canteen and press it gently to Iruka’s lips.
“I thought I’d lost you,” Kakashi breathes against Iruka’s temple.
Iruka finishes the mouthful of water. “I couldn’t let them—they wanted you to believe that I…”
“For a moment, I almost did.” Kakashi pulls Iruka ever closer. “You wouldn’t, though.”
“Never,” Iruka murmurs. He’s on his way back to unconsciousness. He rests his temple on Kakashi’s collarbone, presses his nose into Kakashi’s neck, and says, “Won’t ever hurt you. ‘Specially not like that.”

How do you destroy a monster?🍂 (Himura Kenshin x reader)
Tumblr media
Rurouni kenshin imagine
being an assassin was not always easy. to play with the lives of others, the smell of fresh, stubborn blood-so metallic and penetrative and hard to get rid of. Because of (y/n)‘shabit of approaching her victims like a predator and quietly killing then, she was feared by everyone and called the black fox of death. however, (y/n)didn't care what the people called her. the only important thing was to bring peace back to the country and end the real fight of the shogunates.
so it came to a fateful encounter one rainy evening. the rain gently flew down from the sky and washed away all the sins of men. steam gathered in the streets and an uncomfortably humid atmosphere spread. (y/n)‘s clothes were sticking all over her body and she was starting to feel very tired. the day had been very long and the guilt of killing another person was gnawing on her. persuading oneself again and again it would have been for a good sense also nothing helped - a wiped out life was just a wasted life. As she strolled home through the streets and turned the corner, a violent struggle gave way to a red-haired guy and a monster-like warrior who looked superior to him at first glance. just when (y/n) wanted to turn away from the eerie spectacle - after all, it wasn't her business - something hit the back of her head inevitably and her vision went black. when (y/n) regained consciousness, she felt a sharp pain and was blinded by the light falling through the window. as her eyes slowly got used to the light, she found herself in a typical guest room, lying on a soft futon. her head wound was bandaged and her sword lay carefully cleaned next to her. (y/n) sat up slowly and carefully and continued to look around the room. when her eyes suddenly fell on the red-haired guy who had apparently saved her and brought her to an accommodation. he noticed that she was awake and turned to her. but when (y/n) saw his face a shiver ran down her back. the infamous battosai assassin had saved her. that couldn't be. someone as dangerous as him would never give his life to others. But he must have recognized her startled look and smiled sadly at her: "Don't be afraid. I don't involuntarily kill women I saved a few hours ago. However, you shrink to be carved out of the same wood as me. I am kenshin himura! " he held out his hand encouragingly and (y/n) took it and shook it gently. "thanks for not leaving me behind! I'm (y/n) (l/n).“ kenshin looked at her in surprise: "So you are the notorious black fox of death! I have to say that surprises me a lot. Many rumors that the black fox would be a man. They must have all been wrong." (y/n) looked at him and laughed: "Well, women are the real danger in a world ruled by men. It is really time to finally make peace." kenshin looked down at her and nodded in agreement. only now did (y/n) see his serious injuries and all the blood that started to spread on his chest. She got up from her seat and hurried to him. if he kept losing so much blood it wouldn't look very good for him. the guy had apparently hit him hard. kenshin no longer seemed to be able to stand upright and alone, so (y/n) put his arm around her shoulder despite his contradiction and helped him to sit on a chair. kenshin looked up at her and coughed: "I'm fine. Such small scratches can't harm me. You don't have to get your hands dirty on a depraved monster like me!" (y/n) eyed him angrily and insisted: "shut up kenshin. if you keep bleeding like this you will have no time in the future to bring peace to the country. let me help you, idiot!" kenshin finally gave up and she helped him out of his kimono. (y/n) carefully cleaned his deep wounds with alcohol. kenshin flinches in pain under her gentle touch. nevertheless, he found the feeling of her velvety fingers, which slowly and carefully stroked his skin so delicately, very pleasantly and he realized for the first time how much he longed for such touches. So death wasn't everything. (y/n) bandaged his torso thoroughly and brought him clean clothes to wear. kenshin glanced up at her and admired her gentle facial features. how could a gentle being like her be so deadly? (y/n) helped him up and put him on the futon she had been lying on. she straightened the cushion and covered it carefully without getting to his deep wounds. (y/n) was about to get up and put away the rest of the bandages when kenshin gently grabbed her handgrip and prevented her from walking. he looked at her with glittering eyes and whispered: "Please stay, I hate being alone." (y/n) looked at him lovingly and nod

Paring: Kurapika Kurta x GN! Reader
Word count: 2 652
TW: Mentions of Hospital ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The swings.
(Y/n) loved swings. So charming and amusing.
Even if they couldn't play like the other children, they could always go to the swings. Waving forward and then backward. Heights frightened them and even now terrified them. But with the swings, it was not like that. They felt brave and free. They had visited many. However, they remembered one in particular: the one that his grandfather gave them. The one in the garden of the house where they grew. When they swung, they could see the clouds and the sky. Knowing that their family saw the same azure as they did. They remembered the wildflowers that flourished at the end of the tubes that held it. They had quite a few memories of that swing. That also took place in that location. Their mami's face of horror at seeing them on the ground coughing blood tormented them for a while.
They were back in the hospital. They knew that they would return.  The lonely hours where no visits were allowed seemed long, even reading.
The moments when they were able to be with their grandparents were joyous. Perpetually trying to smile so they wouldn't worry about them.
"(Y/n)!"- a voice cried their name.
They lifted as fast as they could, responding as well as the tubes in their throats allowed.
"Julian!"- They felt so relieved to see him. Each night they spent awake, believing that they would never see him again. The boy, despite being simply 2 years older, was much taller than them. He ran to them sobbing and held them as if they were going to vaporize.
Because that's what they believed.
"(Y/n)!"-he sobbed their name again-"I'm so sorry; I'm so sorry; I shouldn't have left you alone that day. Not because you can't play ball with me, I want you to leave me."-his grip tightened.
They were weak, and their arms were shaking. Yet, that did not prevent them from returning the hug with all the strength that their small body had.
"It doesn't matter anymore. I'm not upset right now."- they consoled.
If they were in his village, the two of them would look more like animals. Julian's tail would surely shake restlessly, and (Y/n) would rub their cheeks into him. They would be cat and dog, but they loved each other so much. Regularly playing clapping games, going for walks, reading together, or playing video games together. It's not like (Y/n) had someone else. From an early age, they had had difficulties relating to other cubs, including adults.
"Julian, watch out for running! They are going to scold us!"- a sweet voice called. Immediately two elders entered, their hands full of bags and gifts.
"Mami, Papi! Hi!"-they greeted, already smiling.
It was an afternoon full of laughter, cake, sweets, and gifts. They played cards and chess - matches (Y/n) won- watched movies, read new books, and hugged stuffed animals. Except it was not (Y/n)'s birthday.
Only visiting hours end sooner or later. And their company had to withdraw. The only difference was that the man stayed a while longer. Opposing hospital rules, which, as a doctor, he had never done previously. (Y/n) stared at him for a moment, not delivering eye contact, until they looked up.
"Papi, I'm going to die?"-they were looking directly in his eyes, searching for a response.
They had a particular method of expressing their feelings, but that didn't mean they did not feel-they possibly felt with more intensity than the majority. Most would expect a kid their age to cry in that situation, but they did not cry. They were smiling.
"(Y/n)..."-the old man whispered and sat near them. He hadn't the courage to say it.
"I can't tell you that. However, if I can tell you one thing."-he took out a small case from the pocket of his trousers. He held their hand and placed the present in their palm-"Whatever happens, I'll be with you. Wherever you go, you will not be alone. And if so, you have nothing to fear."
When they parted the lid of the box, in its inside covered in red velvet, laid a pair of earrings. They were drop-shaped pearl pendants. A peculiar gift for a kid their age. Most would give jewelry like this to someone older.
"My grandfather gave them to my mother, she gave them to me, and today I give them to you."-he continued-"When you have them on, I will accompany you wherever you go. Since our auras live in flowers, a part of mine lives in those earrings. I'll be reminding you who you are and where you come from. So don't forget that you have a home to go to. Don't be afraid (Y/n)..."
The room's door was locked, and the curtains were down. The old man did not own the same appearance as moments ago; he resembled a massive wolf. Intense but soft fur and a spot on the right ear. He knelt to be at the child's height. They looked into each other's eyes, which some say are the door to the soul, for a long time. Without vociferating a word.
"I love you (Y/n)."-he wept, holding his tears.
The mentioned one offered him a smile.
"I love you, Papi."-they mumbled. They leaned forward to hug him, taking the opportunity to snuggle in the older's neck fluff.-"But I am not afraid. Not at all."
The man hugged them back. His paws were so big that they would definitely fit them into just one of them.
After that, he left, promising that they would return the next day.
What they told was a lie, they were afraid. They sobbed enormously that night, except they didn't want their family to see them that way.
~
Kurapika opened one of his drowsy eyes, not feeling the embrace anymore. For a moment he was scared of being alone, that it was all a dream. Though (Y/n) was right next to him. Sitting on the mattress, their backs on the bed frame. They were not sleeping, just staring at the emptiness.
"(Y/n)?"-he groaned, the voice hoarse from sleep.
The appointed blink, as if dispersing the spirits that had them trapped.
They turned their heads to detect where the voice was originating from.
"Kurapika?"-they whispered, the speech clear.-"My apologies, did I wake you?"
"No. Rather, what are you doing awake?"-he was already awaiting the worst.
"I woke up and couldn't go back to sleep. Don't trouble yourself,  please."-they quietly answers with a smile.
How could they request him not worry for them? You can't stop caring about what you love.
"What hour is it?"- he inquired, a bit bothered about the fatigue they might receive in the morning. At least it was Sunday, meaning neither of them had to labor. They would have the possibility of recovering hours of rest if they required it.
After a few seconds of silence, they answered-"4:37."
Kurapika knew the hard nights when attaining rest in a lonely bed seemed tedious. The difference is that they were not abandoned.  He was there for them and wasn't intending on leaving anywhere anytime shortly.
At least they hadn't had a nightmare, if so they would have told him so, right?
He lifted the blankets as a symbol for them to lie down next to him over. He didn't know if they would. Simply with them reclined anew, he would be satisfied. They paid obeisance to him, approaching and lying down nearby him. They came face to face. Kurapika enveloped his arm over their body, they did not hug him back. Yet, they pressed their forehead on his chest.
~
The morning was peaceful and pleasant. Kurapika and (Y/n) were sipping coffee and eating leftover cake from the night earlier in the salon. A disk was playing on the record player. The melody was smooth, the saxophone and the lyrics combined quite well. The silence among the two was charming. From time to time, they were silent, in the same room, just savoring the existence of the separate person. Not because they had nothing to tell. Rather, it was a matter of having their own spaces without isolating themselves.
Except, the silence always finished up breaking.
"I suggest we watch a film tonight. Today you can choose it if you'd like."- Kurapika enunciated, happy to spend quiet time with his lover. Having relaxing nights was rare.
"I...I deem the most convenient thing is for you to come home."-they hesitated, to resume right away-"Not that I don't want to be with you. I'm pretty occupied tonight, and I don't wish for you to miss a night of rest."
The answer surprised him at first.
"Are you going to cover someone in the unit anew?"-he questioned fully of irritant. They were profiteers with (Y/n). His companions rested on their professional integrity and goodness. Kurapika got tired of seeing his lover could stay awake nights in a row to cover night shifts or take care of delegated documents. He knew they would not leave a patient to their own fate; although he foresaw to have a discussion concerning it with them.
"No, not this time."-(Y/n) disclosed. If it was simple paperwork, they did it often with him, as long as he did not interrupt them.
"What will you do?"-he scoffed this time, no commitment had been mentioned to him. Although they had a poor mania to omit some points, not maliciously; globally they were details. That was not a detail.
They resembled uncomfortable. Kurapika already recognized their body language, and despite their perpetual smile, he could read them.
Their gaze was downcast, shoulders hunched, and they played with the edges of their sweater sleeves.
"I'm going to reclaim someone from my clan..."-they wept after a moment of the uncertain reserve.
From the beginning, (Y/n) had helped him regain scarlet eyes. Getting information and accompanying him. Nonetheless, they hadn't mentioned anything about getting their clan back. No contact, no remains, no meeting. Until today. Why? They were trying to preserve him? Did they want to avoid him at a distressing moment? Kurapika believed that retaining such secrets had ended since their discussion. That stubborn part of them that dedicated obstinately to secrecy frustrated him.
"(Y/n)."-he scolded once more.
They narrowed more as if craving to hide from his gaze. He wasn't mad at them. But it frustrated him that he was powerless to help them.
"(Y/n), I'm not angry."-his tone softened-"I desire to accompany you."
Their posture decompressed, though they started to fidget more.
"It will be a rather longspun night. It will be tiresome."-they maintained.
"I do not tend."- He would stand firm with this.-"I am here to assist you."
They suspired-"Thank you, Kurapika."-They had communication difficulties to solve, and weren't oblivious.
"What time will it occur, where and with whom?"-he hinted, making sure to know the circumstances.
"The event will be held with a private collector. At his residence at 8:40 pm."-they specified-"Only that there is a relevant detail."-they added with a cautioned voice.-"The collector is another hunter."
The collector is another hunter. Not for lack of ability, but for the votes that restrained their children. It would be necessary to rely upon the strategy to evade some violent confrontation. On top of that, their identities could be in check.
"As it is clearly practically impossible to hide the fact that I am a hunter, I presented myself as a mere fellow hunter fond of oddities."-as suspected they already had a method.
"Regarding your company, we can pivot on my weak appearance."-they continued with the strategy-" He will never believe that a hunter would require a bodyguard, but an assistant is plausible. He told me that the "merchandise"- saying that last word with disgust-"will be weighty."
"I perceive that you had the strategy ready. That's why I don't worry. I'll stick with it."-regarding the tactical abilities of (Y/n), Kurapika did not waver. Their experience was remarkable.-"Still, you must tell me these genera of things."
"Reasonable, my apologies."-they bawled.
Kurapika wasn't going to reprimand them. He was aware that they were not doing it maliciously, the communication obstacles were rather difficulties. He could never get mad at them for having some kind of challenge.
~
The place concluded up being in an upper-class suburb of YorkNew. For the other hunter to live there, it had to be wealthy. And to be wealthy he had to be skillful. For this occasion, (Y/n) did not use its own vehicle. They rented a truck with a roomy hood. Once the house was spotted, they parked the truck far enough away for the details not to be well distinguished -being black it was conveniently camouflaged with the darkness of the night-but close sufficient to get there quick running.
Before going down, (Y/n) was silent for a short moment. Without moving from the driver's seat. Their pupils would look very dilated if it weren't for the contacts they were wearing. They both wore, so as not to give any kind of clue about their origins. Followed by that silence, they closed their eyes and pronounced a rhyme while poking their chests with two fingers, in a language that Kurapika did not understand. A mantra for good luck, perhaps.
There was no security of any kind seen from the facade. They walked to the front door, which was quite high and made of black wood. Shortly after the bell rang, the door opened. Revealing a man, about 31 years old, but he looked younger. It couldn't be said that he had good taste in dressing, but the clothes they wore were of great quality. His hair was somewhat lengthy yet shorter than Kurapika's and ash-black in color. His aura felt dense and heavy. It was easily deduced that he had no intention of hiding it.
The man, like his aura, was imposing. He made them notice it as if testing their courage and challenging them to enter. Almost as if they were unworthy.
"I presume you are (Y/n)."-he said, waiting. His voice was considerably gruff. The kind of speech that tilts in your eardrums.
"Precisely, a pleasure."-(Y/n) greeted, pulling their hunter license out of their wallet and showing it.
"Good, and he?"-the man pointed at Kurapika.
"Kurapika is here to assist me. I remember listening to you specify that the object was going to be substantial."-they reported hurriedly. Their tone of speech did not denote fear or insecurity. They weren't happy with the rudeness of pointing their lover
"I see. To be a hunter you look frail."-he expressed-"Come in, come in." The walls of the house were wide and the ceiling high. The interior was mostly light gray. The decor had a pretentious modernist tendency. A large number of objects stood out. Of all kinds, but all rare and peculiar. Shelves placed well in sight, figures, frames, vanities. They followed the man through corridors to a small bar, its wall full of bizarre exoticisms.
If it weren't for the assiduousness they were displayed in, one would say that the person was an accumulator. The idea that the person had become a hunter just to gain privileges and the ability to purchase ostentatious exclusive treasures was more and more evident.
"Let's sit down and have a drink."-the man bossed.
"Oh, don't bother. We-"-they got interrupted by the man. It was clear he was vulgar despite his money.
"I don't bother. I want to make sure that I'm not selling one of my prized items to anyone."

February Contest Submission #6: A Museum Date with You
words: ca. 3300 setting: mAU lemon: no cw: none
“Psst, Anna. Wake up, my dear sister.”
Anna grunts when she’s been woken up by Elsa. “Elsa, it’s Sunday and the sun hasn’t risen yet,” she grumbled at her sister.
“It’s also Valentine’s Day and you remembered what we’re planning to do today?”
“A date?” she answers sheepishly.
Anna receives a smooch from Elsa which makes her mouth twitch upward. Her drowsiness withers away as it is replaced by love and adoration with her sister. She sits up and stretches her up high until her back pops.
“Okay, I’m awake,” she says while her eyes are still half-lidded.
“Good girl,” Elsa stands beside the bed. “I’ll prepare breakfast and bring it here. Hope you’re ready once I’m back.”
Anna nod vigorously in agreement. Elsa just shakes her head at Anna’s response. Elsa saunters her way out from their bedroom with a wide sway of her hips. Anna’s half-lidded eyes are instantaneously fully open with some drool at her mouth.
Today is going to be a great day.
Valentine’s Day has arrived and so does their date to the museum. Elsa drives them there since it’s thirty minutes away from their home. It’s been a while since they went out because they have been busy for the last few months. Glad Elsa used this opportunity to go out. If not, they spend time at home and frack all day.
The idea came when they were having a lovely evening snuggling. Elsa told her sister that she wanted to have a museum date for Valentine’s Day, which rendered Anna speechless. Judging Anna’s reaction, Elsa turned her back and curled into a ball with a mock sobbed.  Anna rolled her eyes at her sister. She comforted her big sister with soothing words. Oh, and also consoled her with some massages.
While Elsa’s driving, Anna notices something peculiar. She smiles all this time, which is fine, but a trip to a museum? What’s so exciting at the museum? As far as she knows, a museum is a place where dead people and animals are showcased to the public. Okay, that’s too dark for what’s supposed to be a happy day. Then again, the origin of Valentine’s Day wasn’t happy, either. Anna shakes the thought away. What matters now is Elsa has something to show her, judging by her mood, and she can’t wait to see it.
Still, Anna can’t help but wonder what could it be. Could it be that a new exhibition opened that she isn’t aware of? Perhaps. Or a famous portrait arrived and opened for display. She isn’t a fan of portraits of someone she doesn’t know. Wouldn’t be cool if it’s a portrait of Elsa, because she’s pretty and she definitely will buy a portrait of her sister?
While she’s in her reverie, she doesn’t realize the car has stopped. It’s only after her sister pats her shoulder that she jumps out of her seat. Elsa chuckles at her reaction, “We’re here.”
Anna looks at the front window. The museum is packed with people. They’re lucky today that Elsa was able to find a parking spot right in front of the entrance despite the crowds. The parking lot is already half-full, even though they’d arrived so early today. Elsa and Anna walk to the entrance while holding each other’s hands, swinging their clasped hands back and forth. She likes to hold Elsa’s hand because of the chilling sensation when their skin touches. She feels safe to have Elsa holding her.
They swiftly enter the museum because Elsa had already purchased the tickets beforehand. Now, she’s scanning their tickets at the turnstiles to enter. After the check-in, they walk along the hall and it has an amazing light show. There’s one light circling the wall among the crowd and it’s seeking Anna’s attention. As she gets closer and almost touches the light, the light moves aside. Anna tries to follow the light, but it’s slowly increasing its speed. Without knowing it, she’s running to follow the light. She pulls her sister along for the chase, racing down the halls after the light.
They dive into the light and it blinds them momentarily as the hall is darker than the outside. As Anna’s eyes adjust to the brightness, she sees a skeleton-like creature in front of her. She struggles to remember what the creature is; it seems so familiar to her… When she recovers, her jaw drops at what she recognizes.
A… A… T-Rex!
The skeleton stands tall in the middle of the museum. Floodlights from an alcove above the skeleton shine down on it, creating a shadow that makes the creature feel more intimidating. She turns towards her sister, who’s smiling softly at her.
“Surprise!” Elsa smiles brightly, “Remember the story you told me about how much you love dinosaurs and would love to see them? Well, this is the closest thing we can ever get.”
“Oh, thank you so much. This is the best date ever!” Anna exclaims.
“You’re welcome. Now, care to tell me more about the creature that we’re looking at?” Elsa asks curiously.
“Glad you asked,” Anna says with a grin, “This is Tyrannosaurus-rex. T-rex for short. It was the largest predator in North America. The most striking feature of Tyrannosaurus is its giant skull,” she raises her hand to the air, “It’s colossal. Tyrannosaurs were built for hunting prey. Their body structure helps them chase their prey down and their huge teeth are their main weapon.” Suddenly, an idea comes to Anna’s mind with a grin. “And their favorite point of attack is the prey’s neck. Like this” She dashes towards Elsa and bites her neck, teeth digging into the soft flesh.
“ANNA!” she screams.
Anna retracts from her bite and licks her lips. She grins when she sees how beet-red Elsa is, then realizes there were people around them, giving odd looks to the sisters.
Shoot. Sisters don’t give love bites. Then again, if she says we’re lovers, it would also cause a scandal. She glances at Elsa and she is still embarrassed. She won’t help her at the moment. Guess it’s up to her now to ease the odd looks of the people around here. Here goes nothing.
“Sorry, everyone! Just wanted to show my friend how the T-Rex attacks their prey.” she smiles sheepishly.
The crowds resume their visit. She sighs in relief as her excuse works.
“Good call, Anna.”
“Thanks. Our usual excuse didn’t seem to fit at that moment. I had come up with something else.” She looks at her sister pensively, “I hope you don’t mind when I call you my friend.”
“Anna,” she put her hand on her shoulder, “I am your friend, girlfriend, best friend, lover, and sister. Of course, I don’t mind.”
“Oh, what if I call you my ex-,”
Elsa places a finger across her sister’s lips. “Let’s not go there. If not, the Ice Queen shall return and we both don’t want that, do we?”
Anna shakes her head vigorously. Elsa lets go of her lips and carefully inspects the mark on her neck with her fingers, “As much as I love when you’re marking me, at least find a room before committing such a scandalous act.”
Anna bites her lips. She adores that Elsa loves her perverted acts. It makes her feel hot inside.
“Hehe, sorry. I saw the opportunity and just couldn’t help it.”
“It’s okay,” she smooches Anna, “I forgive you.” She then whispers, “But do remember when we’re back home.”
Urgh. Elsa. Don’t turn me on right now!
“So, the dinosaurs?” Elsa tries to avert the conversation.
“Oh yeah. Even though it’s a formidable predator, some dinosaurs can force them to back off.”
“Oh? Which dinosaurs can pose a threat to the mighty T-Rex?”
“Here, let me show you.” She drags Elsa to the next exhibition. “This is the Triceratops. The reason why it is called that is that it has two long horns with a short, stout nose that acts as a third horn. It also has a shield-like bone crest which prevents T-Rex from biting them at the neck.” She coughs at the remark, stifling a giggle. Elsa just rolls her eyes.
“As you can see, this dinosaur can do offensive moves with its horns, just like any animal with the same feature. They will point their horns towards the enemy like this.” Anna puts her fingers on her scalp, mimicking a horn. “And they charge!” She intends to poke her arm but Elsa turns at the last second and she ends up squishing her nose onto her sister’s breast. It’s soft as silk and she doesn’t feel any lines underneath it. Oh my…
“Let me guess, they’ll charge at the enemy’s breast,” she says, smirking.
Anna chuckles, “Well, sort of. The softer the spot, the easier to pierce through.”
“Interesting.”
They stand there for a while, Anna’s face still buried on the chest.
“Umm, Anna. Do you mind?”
“Whoops, sorry,” Anna says in a very un-sorry way. She rubs the wrinkled spot on Elsa’s shirt. “Don’t want to leave it untidy.” She caresses the area until it’s smooth as butter.
Elsa shakes her head. “You can stop now.”
“Yeah, maybe I should.” She lifts her hand from Elsa’s breast. Her ministrations have caused a protrusion underneath the shirt and it’s a sight to behold.
“Are there any other dinosaurs that can rival T-Rex’s supremacy?” Elsa returns to the conversation.
“There are. C’mon, follow me.” She drags her sister to the next exhibition.
“This is Ankylosaurs. This thing is built like a tank. It has armor all over its body. Imagine a tortoise, but with spikes all over the body. Not only that, the tail can be used as an offensive weapon, like a mace. The hard shell at the end of the tail can be whipped at the enemy,” she once again smirks, “Like this…” she swings her hips into  Elsa’s, causing her to lose her balance.
“Yes, I can feel that,” Elsa mutters as she regains her balance, “You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?” she asks curiously.
Oh, she knows very well what Elsa’s talking about, but Anna just ignores it, “Of course. I love to show my love of dinosaurs with you,” she smiles innocently.
Elsa embraces her little sister, “Of course you are.”
“Mommy, mommy. Those girls are cute together,” says a child in the distance.
They freeze at the moment self-consciously.
“Yes, dear. People will act cutely when they love each other,” mutters the mother.
“Big sis and I love each other. Can we act like that?” the child asks innocently.
The mother proceeds to lecture the child about the difference between romantic and familial love. Meanwhile, the queer sisters listen to the whole conversation, quietly chuckling to each other.
“Poor mother. Little did she know, we love each other in both ways.”
“Agreed. Let’s not forget, not everyone will experience the love that we share.”
“Yeah, I know. I’m lucky to have fallen in love with you.”
Elsa rests her forehead on her sister’s and looks at her in adoration, “I’m also lucky to have fallen in love with you.”
Anna’s eyes turn misty to hear those lovely words from her sister, “Thank you. It means a lot coming for you.”
“You are welcome. C’mon. We have a lot of places to visit.”
It’s Elsa’s turn to drag her sister along, which Anna happily follows.
They continue their exploration in the museum, walking through section after section until they arrive in the 19th-century era. It is full of portraits of past monarchies. The hall has many rooms filled with portraits of monarchs from different kingdoms. As they stand before the Norwegian monarchy room, Elsa stops in front of the closed doors, turning to Anna.
“There’s something I want to show you. I want you to look at it and tell what you see.”
Anna is weirded out by the serious tone of her sister. “Elsa, what’s the matter? Why so serious?”
She let out a sigh “I’m sorry. This portrait has been bothering me for quite a while now and I want to show you.”
“It’s okay,” Anna says as she holds her sister’s hand on the door handle, “I’m here for you. We can do this together,” she assures Elsa.
“Together.” She turns the latch of the mahogany door and they walk in to see a portrait of a royal family.
Anna tilts her head a bit. The portrait looks familiar. Anna walks closer to it. It has an illustration of what she assumes are two queens as well as a prince and princess. The two queens look like them and she reads the description. Wait, it can’t be.
She turns around to face her sister, “Elsa? Is that… us?”
“No, Anna. That’s not us. Although the resemblance is eerily familiar,”
“But who are they?”
“They are the rulers of the kingdom of Arendelle. Queen Elsa of Arendelle and the queen’s wife, Queen Anna of Arendelle.”
Anna’s eyes widen when she hears the names. “Wait, the queens had the same and also were lesbians?”
“The first in their kingdom. Not only that, but they were also sisters.”
Anna’s goosebumps rose from the revelation. She gulps, “So, not only they have the same names as we do, but they are sisters and married too? Just like us?”
“Yes, it is. Scary, huh?”
Anna subconsciously hugs her sister’s arm. “What does this mean, Elsa? Are we some kind of reincarnation of them?”
“I can’t say for sure, but one thing that can comfort you is that no matter what time or era, we still are together.”
“That’s good to hear,” Anna exhales slowly. She looks again at the portrait. “It looks like they have children. How is that possible if they are both women?”
“Those are Princess Elsi and Prince Annar. Get this, Queen Anna was given birth to them! Thanks to Queen Elsa.”
Anna gives her a puzzled look. “What? How?”
“There were rumors that Queen Elsa had a magical power to bring life into this world. She was able to bring a snowman to life along with snow monsters and snowgies, little tiny snowmen. They said she used the same power with her wife which led to the birth of two offspring.”
“Really? Can it be true?”
“I can’t tell for sure. However, if we look at their children, they both bear a striking resemblance to their parents. Nothing more, nothing less. It’s hard to refute the rumor when the result is so obvious.”
Anna is shaken by the explanation. “Is this why you wanted to bring me to the museum? To show me there’s someone who was pretty much like us?”
“My plan was more about the dinosaurs, but since we’re here, I wanted to show you this.”
Anna hugs her sister, “Thanks for showing me this. I feel reassured that someone has done it before - had a family despite being two women - and I think it’s possible to follow in their footsteps.”
“You’re welcome, Anna.”
They hug for a while until Anna speaks, “Say. Do you think we could have a baby too?” she asks wistfully.
“Finish your studies first, then we can talk about having a baby,” Elsa chuckles when her sister grumbles while crossing her arms, “Aww, don’t be mad.” Elsa tries to coax her, “You do know your studies are really important, right?”
Anna sighs, “Yeah, yeah. I know. It’s just so boring and I’m too lazy to do all the assignments.”
“Believe me. Those will be a thing of the past once you finish your degree.”
“Do you think they sell a copy of the portrait? I want to buy a portrait of my sister,” she gives Elsa a huge grin.
Elsa rolls her eyes at her sister’s remarks. “I’m sure they do have them in the souvenirs shop.”
After the museum trip, the sisters enjoyed a romantic dinner at their favorite pizza shop. They dined while enjoying the golden hour, the sun low on the horizon. They sat side by side, embracing each other while enjoying the view and the ambiance of the restaurant; singing along to soft musical chimes playing one of their favorite songs in the background.
They ordered their favorite, pineapple pizza (because that’s the best kind of pizza there is) and fed each other alternating bites, giggling the entire time.  At one point, Anna ‘accidentally’ smeared some tomato sauce on Elsa’s cheek and proceeded to lick it off her, much to her sister’s chagrin. Anna struggled to rein in her laughter and kept licking Elsa long after the sauce was gone, claiming she couldn’t tell the difference between the sauce and Elsa’s blush.
After dinner, they head home, eager to enjoy the rest of the evening together. Elsa can barely contain her eagerness, smiling, constantly staring at Anna on the drive home while still keeping the car on the road. Anna couldn’t help but grin alongside her big sister. Seeing her happy like this is a sight to behold.
Once they are home, Elsa and Annas go straight to the bedroom to snuggle. The museum date was exhausting after walking all day. But all in all, it was a fun day.
Anna rests her ear on Elsa’s chest. The quiet evening helps her to listen to her sister’s beating heart. She tries to count the beats but every time she does that she loses into the rhythm. It’s mesmerizing. The only song she ever needs.
Anna remembers back what she sees at the museum. Yes, the dinosaur is amazing. How sweet Elsa is to remember her favorite species. But the portrait is what’s stuck in her. She still couldn’t believe there’s someone before them who’s identical to them. The only difference is they don’t have a child yet. Elsa has said they will talk about this once she finishes her study but having a little chat won’t hurt, right?
“Hey, Elsa?”
“Hmm?” she hums.
“Do you think we could name our future child Elsi or Annar?”
Elsa looks at her sister, “Looks like someone eager to have a child.”
“Noo,” Elsa raises her eyebrow, “Maybe. Look, I just want to have a little convo, alright?”
“Sure, Anna,” she smirks. Anna proceeds to slap her breast out of spite.
“So, about the child?”
“Yeah, I’ve been thinking by now. Having a child. Our child. Would it be crazy?”
“Anna, our marriage is already crazy. Everything after this would be even crazier.”
“Hehe, I’m glad.”
“Why do you want to name our future child that?”
“Well, other than following the people who had done it before. I think that names are so cute. It’s like Elsa replacing the ‘A’ with an ‘I’ and Anna with additional ‘R’.”
She smiles, “We could also relate with our late parents. The ‘I’ in Iduna and the ‘R’ in Agnarr.”
Anna claps her hand, “Oh my gosh, what a coincidence. They both resemble our names and our parents’ ones. I’m pretty sure that was their intention.”
“Agree.”
“Do you think our future baby will be a pure-blood one?”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, you remember the rumor the queen used her magical power to her sister to give birth. I wonder if we could…” Anna’s been interrupted by a kiss.
Elsa places her hand on her cheek after they kiss, “We’ll find a way,”  she says assuredly.
“Okay,” she hugs her sister, “Thank you for considering.”
“You’re welcome. Anything for my sister,” she yawns. “Good night, Anna.”
“Good night kiss?”
She smiles and kisses her sister good night. “I love you, Anna.”
“I love you too, Elsa.”

22.    Christmas Fair
Fandom: Stray Kids
Sickie: Bang Chan
Caregiver: 2racha
 Chan’s POV.:
Officially we were on break over the seasonal holidays but me being the workaholic I am, I wasn’t able to sit still and do nothing. That’s why I went to the studio to work on some new tracks. It was much more fun to compose stuff if you could just play around a bit with out the pressure of deadlines. I spent most of the day alone at the studio, losing track of time as I tried out new beats. My members were probably resting at the dorm or roaming the city. There was a small Christmas fair in the town center and my phone kept blowing up with begging texts, asking if we could all go there together. After replying that I’d love to go there tomorrow because I’m busy at the moment, I muted my phone to avoid distractions as far as possible. When I finally shut my computer off and bundled into my coat, preparing for the walk home, it was already very late in the evening. I skipped lunch and haven’t had dinner yet, so I decided to pick up a bite to eat on the walk home. I’d be passing by the fair anyways, why not get something from one of the food-stands there.
 Changbin’s POV.:
Chan had been at the studio all day. It was already getting late and one by one my members all went to bed. The only ones remaining in the living room were Jisung and me. We felt a little guilty because our leader was still working and we didn’t. After all, it’s 3racha that produces the songs for stray kids and 3racha also includes Jisung and me, not just Chan. That’s why we grabbed notepads and worked on some lyrics, hoping they’d be of use when Chan would present us the new tracks he was working on. We had both tried to call Chan numerous times over the past thirty minutes to convince him to come home but he never picked up. Then suddenly my phone rang. “Chan?” – “Yeah, hey. I saw you tried to call me?” – “Yeah, we wanted to ask you to come home. It’s getting late.” – “Ah, I’m already on the way back. Y’all already had dinner, right?” – “Hyung, it’s almost midnight. Everyone accept for 3racha is asleep already.” – “I’ll eat a bit on the way, so it might take a bit longer. Should be home in about twenty minutes.” – “Alright, take care, hyung.” – “See you.” And with that the call ended.
 Chan’s POV.:
I didn’t really enter the fair because I mostly just wanted to get home quick, but I found a food stand on the outer edge of the fair which sold fish cakes. I bought a fish cake and also picked up a small bag of roasted chestnuts to snack on while walking. I stuffed the bad of chestnuts into my pocket, feeling the heat through the fabric, so I’d have my hands free to eat the fish cake. The meal was perfect to warm me up on a chilly night like this. I finished the fish cake and munched two of the chestnuts before arriving home and unlocking the door. After kicking off my shoes, I made my way to the living room, where I sound Changbin and Jisung between scattered sheets of paper. “Hyung, you’re finally back”, the youngest 3racha member whisper-shouted. “You are aware that we are on Christmas break, right hyung?”, the older rapper scolded. “Aish, yes I am”, I said directed at both of them, “But hey, I brought you some roasted chestnuts to make up for not being home.” Changbin just rolled his eyes at my poor attempt to distract them, while Jisung happily accepted the bag from me, immediately nibbling on one nut. I have to admit, he had never looked like a squirrel more than he did right now. We both chuckled at our youngest before saying good night and getting ready for bed.
The evening seemed to fade out peacefully but the truth was that my belated dinner turned out to have been a mistake. Or at least my food choice had been a mistake. The fish cake wasn’t agreeing with me so well. I couldn’t remember whether there were hints of it being undercooked or if it tasted weird, I just knew that my stomach wasn’t too happy about it. It had started to hurt a few minutes after I arrived home. Slowly the pain increased into cramps, that felt like somebody was stabbing the upper area of my abdomen with a dull knife. I knew that I should just go to bed, everybody else was asleep already. Maybe I’d be able to just sleep it off.
My attempts to sleep the pain off, ended about ten minutes later when the pain had turned into nausea. I slipped out of bed as quietly as I could because Changbin had just gone to bed and was probably not that deeply asleep yet. Slightly bent over with one arm around my middle and the other braced against the wall, I stumbled to the bathroom, flicking on the light. I did make it to the toilet but as soon as I had settled on my knees in front of it, the urge to throw up was gone. I pushed myself back up, groaning in frustration that I had gotten up unnecessarily but as soon as I was on my feet again, I immediately felt sick again. The cycle repeated itself a few times, till I decided to just stay in the bathroom whether I had to throw up in the end or not.
 Changbin’s POV.:
I hadn’t been asleep yet, when Chan left the room again. He was probably just going to the restroom, so I closed my eyes again, trying to go to sleep. When he still wasn’t back twenty minutes later, I suspected, he had snuck to the living room to continue working there on his laptop. It’s not like that had never happened before, so to me that was the most likely explanation for his disappearance. I was getting angry at our leader’s behavior, we were on Christmas break for duck’s sake, why couldn’t he just make use of the time he’s given to rest? Controlling my anger to not wake the younger Aussie in our room, I quietly pushed off the blanket and slipped out of the room, determined to drag our leader’s workaholic ass back to bed. When I got to the living room however, everything was dark. Now I really had no idea where my hyung could have gone. On the way back to my room, there was light shining through underneath the bathroom door.
I gently tapped my finger against the door, opening it when I heard a low “Yeah?”. Chan was resting with his back against the bathtub, looking up at me with dark circles under his eyes. “Hey, what are you doing here? Why aren’t you in bed?”, I frowned, noticing the yellowish pallor of his cheeks. “Kinda stuck here”, he mumbled, closing his eyes. “How so?”, I asked, taking a seat opposite of him. “Dinner’s not sitting well. I’m ok, it just hurts right now but everytime I try to get up, I feel like I’m going to be sick”, he breathed. “Was it the chestnuts?”, my eyes widened, remembering that Jisung had finished almost the entire bag. The leader shook his head: “Fish cake” Ok, at least that made only one sick member. “What are you going to do now? Just stay here for the night?”, I questioned. “Probably”, he shrugged, muffling a burp into his fist. “I actually hope I’d just throw up. I’ll probably be fine once it’s out”, he admitted uncharacteristically shy. I sighed and got up.
 Chan’s POV.:
Changbin just left and I was glad he’d get the sleep he needed, even though I really didn’t want to be alone right now, it was still better that making one of my dongsaengs stay awake with me. I could handle myself, always have. Could I really? Another twist of my stomach made me doubt it as my mouth started to water. I shifted back onto my knees in anticipation, when the door cracked open once again. I didn’t turn to look at whoever came in, not even when I felt a hand on my shoulder. “Hey, I got you a bottle of water. Maybe if you chug that down really fast it will make everything come out”, Changbin whispered, setting the bottle down next to me. “Thought you had gone back to bed”, I mumbled sheepishly, wrapping my arms tighter around my middle and gritting my teeth as I was hit with another cramp. “And left you here? Never!”, my dongsaeng gasped. I felt really fuzzy and warm at this comment but was soon brought back to reality when a wave of nausea washed over me. I decided to go along with Changbin’s idea and uncapped the water bottle. Raising it to my lips, the very first sip made it clear that I wouldn’t be able to go through with it. I struggled to swallow and it seemed like my mind was preventing me from putting anything else into my already upset stomach. Choking, I spat out the water that was still in my mouth, handing the bottle back. Luckily, the rapper got the hint and quickly took it from my hand. The coughing triggered a gag but that was it. “S-Sorry, c-can’t”, I forced out between clenched teeth, still hovering over the toilet. Changbin sighed and rubbed my back in soothing circles as I breathed heavily, on the edge of throwing up but not quite there. I could taste the fish cake, I could even feel it at the back of my throat but it just wouldn’t come out. Frustrated teeth make their way down my face and I didn’t even bother wiping the away, knowing there’d just be new ones.
 Jisung’s POV.:
I always needed some time to fall asleep. I heard shuffling in the hall and people talking in hushed voices but decided to stay in bed, if they don’t value their sleep, it’s their problem, not mine. Until I heard quiet sobs, that is. Startling at the different noise, I swung my legs over the edge of the bed, careful to not wake the maknae I was sharing a room with. Padding down the hallway, I followed the noise, ending up in front of the bathroom door. I tapped the door twice as a warning, before carefully pushing it open and stepping in. Sitting on the bathroom floor, I found my other two 3racha members. “What’s going on?”, I yawned, squatting down next to them. With Chan seemingly unable to speak, Changbin answered for him, his hand never leaving the leader’s back: “Channie-hyung had a fish cake for dinner, which isn’t quite agreeing with him. He really needs to be sick but can’t. I tried to make him chug water but he can’t even get that down and I have no other idea what else to do.” Oh, that explains why our hyung is crying so hard. He must feel really bad if he’d voluntarily throw up. I chewed on my lips, thinking hard. The water would have been the first thing to come to my mind too but then I had a different idea. Grabbing a hair clip from the sink, I motioned for Changbin to switch positions with me. He nodded, watching me closely, trying to figure out what I wanted to do.
I knelt down behind my oldest hyung, clipping his bangs back in one swift motion. “Hyung, I’m going to hug you really tight, ok?”, I muttered into the leader’s ear. He nodded, removing his arms from his stomach, gripping onto the edge of the bathtub and toilet seat instead. I gently snaked my own arms around his middle, feeling his tense abs under my hands. “Just slap my arm if it hurts too bad or you want me to stop”, I warned before slowly tightening my arms around him, increasing the pressure I was putting on his stomach. At first nothing was happening, Chan only flinched a bit in pain, till he suddenly pithed forward in my hold, retching harshly. I could see his knuckles turning white, as he braced himself before retching again. This time, there was actually something coming up, although it wasn’t much. I closed my eyes, afraid the feeling of Chan’s stomach, contracting underneath my arms in combination with sight and smell, would send my own stomach over the edge. Instead, I just kept holding my hyung in a back hug, feeling every twitch of his muscles and following his movements when he jerked over the toilet bowl, trying to ignore the sounds of liquid hitting liquid. Every cough, gag or burp was amplified by the porcelain bowl, forcing me to grit my teeth and squeeze my eyes shut, while trying to keep my grip steady. ‘Alright Sungie, just think of puppies, cute little puppies’ I told myself.
Changbin must have seen my face change color because he tapped my back before gently pushing me to the side and taking my place. I don’t usually get sympathy sick but that just now was really testing my limits. With a jerking motion of his head, he signaled for me to leave. His eyes told me that he got it handled and that I should flee as long as I still could. I nodded quickly, slipping out of the bathroom and closing the door between us. Shakily, I went to my room to get my phone and headphones to drown out the noise coming from the bathroom. Turning up the music, I went to the kitchen and filled the kettle with water. While I waited for the water to boil, I fetched two peppermint teabags, dropping them into a teapot. I decided to make more than just one cup of tea because my own stomach was still doing flips too. I was still waiting, when my stomach tightened, forcing me to quickly lean over the sink. Luckily the weak gag brought nothing up but that was a close-call. I rested my forehead against the counter, breathing heavily through gritted teeth. I was able to get my bearings and straightened back up to pour the water over the teabags, taking the teapot along with three cups to the coffee table.
Soon, the pair emerged from the bathroom, Changbin supporting a sweaty Chan to the couch, before taking off to fetch a bucket, just in case. “Feeling better?”, I asked, anxiously playing with my fingers. “Yeah, thanks mate”, the oldest replied, voice hoarse from getting sick. He curled up on the couch, drawing his legs up a bit as he shivered. He must be pretty cold in his sweat-through shirt, so I pulled the woolen blanket we always keep in the living room from the back of the couch, covering his trembling form completely. Only barely catching the quiet “Thanks”, a small smile spread on my lips as Changbin returned, placing a bucket next to the couch. He guided me to the other couch where we could cuddle while keeping a close eye on our leader. Seems like we’re in for another 3racha all-nighter….

~~
When you woke back up, your head was pounding and you were on your side. As your vision came into focus, the first thing to hit you was how goddamn bright it was. Next was the crushed building to your left. Your head pounded even harder and you realized you must have been the person to cause the imprint in the building.
Kaminari was looming over you, his electric cage was covering both of you. You blinked up at him and he smiled down at you. “Glad you're awake,” He quietly spoke.
You groaned in response and slowly sat up. Chaos was around you and Bakugou worked hard to keep anyone from getting to you and Kaminari. He somehow looked even worse than before.
At that moment, a blast of fire came in your direction and Bakugou quickly hit Todoroki and stopped the fire just in time before it reached you and Kaminari. The heat warmed your body for a moment before the cold wind came crashing back, tickling your skin and giving you goosebumps.
You felt like a burden considering your teammates had to watch after you when they should be defeating the other teams. You looked around you to see how intense the situation was. Sato, Todoroki, and Ojirou were the only people you saw. In the distance, you saw Koda laying on the ground, presumably unconscious.
Where’s Hagakure? I thought she was with Ojirou. Maybe she found Ashido and Uraraka… I wonder where Ashido is anyways.
“Kaminari,” Your voice was hoarse and you coughed a couple of times because of how dry your mouth was. You paused and the electric boy looked back at you after watching Bakugou get a hit on Sato. “Don’t worry about me, just help Bakugou.”
Your voice was still weak and you really needed a glass of water, but there were more important things to deal with at that moment.
Kaminari was reluctant to drop his shield so you weakly grabbed his arm and used your quirk to reassure him.
“Stop that,” Kaminari spoke, pushing your hand off of him, “Just rest okay? I know you can handle yourself.”
You nodded as Kaminari stood up, effectively dropping his shield. He looked around and rushed towards Ojirou, his hands already twitching as electricity sparked from his fingers.
You watched the battle, the sounds of fighting, specifically the explosions, making your headache worse. Kaminari was shocking Ojirou and Sato with the disks attached to his wrists while Bakugou fought off Todoroki. You tore your attention away from the explosions to try and locate Ashido. Her thoughts were unclear and almost like static in your head, but you could hear enough.
Ashido was still fighting against Uraraka, and yes, Hagakure was with them. Ashido didn’t seem too tired which meant you couldn’t have been knocked out for more than a few minutes.
You slowly stood up from your spot on the ground, your head pounded as if begging you to sit back down. Honestly, you really wanted to curl up with some hot cocoa and watch TV, but you knew you couldn’t have everything you ever wanted. And so, you ignored the headache and watched the situation unfold, thinking about what you could do next.
Bakugou looked pretty beaten up, and it would be in your best interest to help him against Todoroki, but his ice and fire powers would be difficult to fight against. It was as if he only needed one second to come up with a plan and execute it, making it horribly difficult for you to dodge something so strong. Bakugou could escape his attacks or even take them head-on, but you were not fast enough or strong enough to break free of his ice walls.
You turned to Kaminari, who had done good damage against Sato and Ojirou. Both men needed to touch someone to damage them, and Sato was pretty slow, meaning Kaminari was able to get some decent hits on them.
In fact, Sato looked like he was slowing down drastically.
What is this kid’s quirk again? Something to do with strength?
Either way, you knew you could help Kaminari more than Bakugou so you ran towards him, making quick work of devising a plan. You ran towards the sluggish Sato, who saw you coming and got ready for a fight.
If you didn’t dodge and he hit you, it would hurt. Badly. However, if you dodged and grabbed any part of him, you knew you could put him to sleep easily. You ran faster and Sato aimed to punch you in the jaw. At the very last moment, you ducked, his punch instead hitting the air. From below, you grabbed his chin instead of punching it which was your usual move.
Unlike most people, Sato was already tired when you tried to make him sleep. The switch was already there, and within only a moment, you had him asleep. Although tired, you knew he would eventually wake up if you let go. You needed him to pass out but Kaminari and Bakugou were both busy, and you needed to do this yourself.
Still holding on to Sato by his shoulder, you started punching. His body panicked as you punched him, writhing in place. In fact, you lost your grip on his shoulder for a moment and he almost woke up, but you reassured him with your empath quirk while still punching.
The calm Sato was now bleeding from his nose, but he wasn’t quite there yet. Just a few more punches and then he would finally be passed out.
One. His heart rate sped up once more and his body tensed.
Two. You calmed him down and told him to just rest.
Three. He was finally passed out, his body no longer strong enough to fight against you to stay awake.
You sighed and let go on him, taking a few breaths to calm your headache. You took this moment to check back in on Ashido and--
Holy shit!
She had it! She had the flag and was heading back to base. Hagakure was trailing behind her, but Uraraka was defeated and had a horrible stomach ache preventing her from fighting against Ashido anymore.
Ashido was tired. Her body was slower than usual. And you knew Hagakure was planning something. You could run away from the current battle to help her. That would probably be the best choice, but in this condition, you were too slow to catch up to them. Bakugou would be the fastest, but you also needed him against Todoroki. That meant that the best choice would be Kaminari.
Would Kaminari be able to fight against Hagakure though? She must have taken off her clothes to go full invisible and that might just ruin Kaminari to know.
You tried to stand up, knowing it would be better if you chased after Ashido to stop Hagakure. However, you still needed to tell someone where you were going.
At that moment, Bakugou blasted up to the sky, avoiding a blow from Todoroki. He was now closer to you than he was to Shouto and so you ran towards him, albeit quite slow.
“Bakugou!”
The blond boy looked at you and worry rushed through his head at the sight of your slow body running towards him. You tried to prevent your cheeks from flushing pink at the idea of Bakugou caring for you, so you brushed it off with the idea that Bakugou needed you healthy to win. He quickly propelled himself towards you. His brows were furrowed with concern as his eyes wandered across your body to check your injuries.
“Stop worrying, I’m fine,” You mumbled as he inspected your head for any cuts. “If anything you are worse off than me.”
“Hardly,” He scoffed, “I can handle myself, you passed out at the first hit.” He pointed his finger towards you and you quickly pushed it out of your face.
“Shut up, I didn’t come here to bicker about who is worse off, I need to tell you something important,” You replied.
He looked at Todoroki, who was currently making his way towards you, “Hold on, I’ll get us somewhere safer.”
“What?”
Bakugou grabbed you by your waist before you could even process the plan in his head. God, I am way too fucking tired, you thought as the smell of smoke and caramel filled your senses. Bakugou used his other hand to blast you both up and onto a building. It was one of the tallest buildings and it would take Todoroki a moment to reach you at such heights.
Your face flushed at Bakugou’s muscular arm holding you. You couldn’t tell if you were hot because of your embarrassment or because of Bakugou’s explosions. Before you could figure it out, you and Bakugou landed safely on the building and he quickly let go of you. You felt much colder now.
“Okay, tell me,” Bakugou said, getting straight to business. Obviously not startled about holding you by your waist and carrying you to safety.
“Oh, um,” You stuttered, trying to refocus your attention on what was important and not on how goddamn attractive Bakugou looked. Has he ever carried anyone else to safety like that before? You shook the thoughts out of your head, knowing full well that Bakugou thought you were and bumbling idiot. “A-ashido got their flag,” You practically yelled, “but Hagakure is chasing after her and is still at full strength while Ashido is pretty tired. I need to get to them to help her. So, I’m leaving.”
Bakugou looked you up and down. You can’t catch them in time, you are too beat up, he thought.
“I know, but you need to be here against Todoroki and Kaminari can’t fight against a naked girl,” You replied.
I guess so, he thought. He took a moment to look down over the building and onto the battle. You took a few steps to follow his lead.
Sato and Koda were passed out on the ground and Ojirou and Todoroki were currently fighting against Kaminari, who was wondering where you and Bakugou went.
“He can handle himself, he hasn’t even used his strongest move yet,” Bakugou responded. “I have time to get you to wherever and back here to help him.”
“No, Bakugou, don’t worry about me--”
“I’m not worried about you. I want to win,” Bakugou interrupted. “So just shut up.” He wiped his right hand off on his pants before using said hand to grab you by the waist again. His hand swept around and happened to brush past your training uniform so Bakugou was touching your skin. The heat from his hand warmed your cold skin.
You knew he was nervous from not only his thoughts, but the emotions he held that rushed through you at the slightest touch. However, your brain was also rushing with wild thoughts and concerns. Your face was flush red and you looked down so Bakugou couldn’t see your bashful appearance.
Part of you was happy Bakugou was just as nervous as you. But then again, your heart was beating so fast. Bakugou pulled you against his chest. You could hear your heart beating much faster than his, which meant he could also hear your heart beating much faster.
How is he already calm, his heart is barely beating! And here I am, an absolute mess!
When Bakugou pushed off, pulling you out of your thoughts, you yelped. Bakugou ignored the noise and kept flying before stopping a few buildings over. “Where is that invisible brat?”
“That way,” You pointed towards the center where all sectors meet, ignoring the insult towards your friend. If you could even say she was your friend.
Bakugou blasted off again, grunting in response. Every now and then, he would land on top of a building and you would use your quirk to locate Hagakure. Soon enough, the distance was minimal. “Quiet down, we are approaching,” You said.
Bakugou looked down at you from on top of the short building. “I can’t be quiet, I have explosions that come out of my hands.”
“Okay, okay, whatever. Just hop over to that pointy building,” You responded.
Bakugou listened to you and blasted off towards the building. Once he landed on top, he looked at you for further directions.
You placed your finger on top of your mouth in a ‘shushing’ motion to tell Bakugou not to make noise. You pointed down and Bakugou followed your fingers to see Ashido sliding through the streets with the flag. He looked back up at you and you leaned into his ear. “Hagakure is right behind her, waiting till Ashido is back at the base so she can take both flags.”
Bakugou nodded in response. Do you want me to land you with Pinky?
You shook your head. “No, I wanna fight her on my own while Ashido gets back to base.”
Bakugou looked at you and furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. I don’t think you are strong enough for that, idiot.
“Yeah, I am,” You pouted. “Don’t underestimate me Bakugou.”
“I’m not, you beat me before so I know you are strong. However, you are pale and cold. You lost blood and I am sure your head is still pounding,” He countered, crossing his arms in defiance.
You groaned at how well Bakugou knew you. Someone you only met a few days ago shouldn’t know you this well, and yet here he was, proving you wrong. “I can do it, okay? Just trust me a bit.”
He looked at you. Really looked at you. His crimson orbs stared into your soul and you had half a mind to wonder if maybe he was an Empath too. If only he knew that he was making you so goddamn nervous with just one look.
“Okay.”
“Huh?”
“Okay,” He responded. “I trust you. I’ll drop you off and you’ll kick her ass. Then I’ll kick Half-and-Half’s ass. Then Deku’s. Then we will win.”
“Ah,” You responded, “So ass is necessary when winning. What good priorities.”
“I didn’t say that you pervert!” Bakugou practically yelled.
You chuckled in response and Bakugou just groaned even harder.
“Shut up, you bastard,” Bakugou mumbled.
“Okay, okay!” Your laughter finally died down. “Just bring me to that building and let me down.”
Bakugou grumbled and tightened his grip on your waist--
Holy shit his hand was still on my waist.
--and blasted off effortlessly.
When you landed on the building, you scoured the ground to find Hagakure and Ashido a few paces ahead. You pointed at the opposite side of the street which was out of view for the other two girls and Bakugou easily landed you on the ground without drawing any attention to the both of you.
“Thanks,” You mumbled, pushing yourself out of his grasp and brushing invisible dirt off your clothes.
Bakugou merely nodded in response. Don’t fuck up.
“I won’t,” You retorted.
Bakugou smirked at you and your insides flipped.
When you first saw him fight in the sports festival, you thought he was cool and handsome. And now here you were, face to face with someone even more attractive than you perceived and even stronger than before. You couldn’t help but smile back at him as the pink hues in your face showed themselves again.
Bakugou turned around and quickly ran off towards the battle of ice and electricity that erupted in the distance. Bakugou pushed himself into the air using both his hands to move faster than he was when he carried you.
You turned back around to face the tall, cement buildings and concentrated on locating Ashido and Hagakure. Neither of them were too far away, and luckily they had no idea you were here.
You made quick work of quietly trekking over to Hagakure, trying to figure out how you could sneak up on the sneakiest person in your class.
Your head pounded as you once again tried to hone in on exactly where Hagakure was hiding. You were so tired and craved a nap, and yet you still needed to get the Blue Team’s flag and ensure Ashido’s safety. You were too scared to sigh and kept your shallow breaths to yourself as you followed behind Hagakure, waiting for the perfect time to attack.
The invisible girl was currently focused on Ashido who just slid out of view with the green flag in hand. The pink girl had no idea Hagakure was behind her, and thought she was completely in the clear. You closed in on Hagakure, ready to punch the air you hoped she was standing. Toru was focused on Mina and didn’t hear you approaching. Although you weren’t sure exactly where she was, you just needed to touch her in order to ensure Ashido’s safety.
You reached out in front of you and grabbed onto whatever you could, not quite sure what it was. The invisible girl gasped and rotated out of your grasp.
“Y/N,” Hagakure squealed, “You found me!”
You smiled at your friend but took her surprised state as a chance to attack. You clenched your hand into a fist and punched eye level to yourself, hoping you hit her in the nose.
The girl groaned, proving your assumption was right. You heard her take a few steps back so you pushed forward and grabbed at her, trying your best to make the girl sleep. Unfortunately, you didn’t grab anything and Hagakure regained her stance by the time you realized.
“Warp Refraction: Say Cheese!”
A burst of light shot through the sky and reflected off of Hagakure, effectively blinding you. “Aw, fuck!” You stepped back and closed your eyes because of the brightness.Your head pounded and you knew Hagakure was planning on punching you, but the sharp light prevented you from moving.
A sharp pain shot through your stomach and you suddenly felt like vomiting.
You groaned and shot down to your knees.
Focus! You told yourself. You needed to ignore the light and just use your quirk to create a picture of the scene in your head.
I got her now, Hagakure thought. I’ll kick her and then-
As her shin raced towards your right side, you blocked her hit with your forearm and used your other hand to reach up to grab her arm. You pulled the invisible girl towards the ground. “Sleep!” You shouted, more for yourself than for her. You worried you wouldn’t be strong enough to actually make Hagakure fall asleep. However, the lightswitch appeared in the cavern of her mind and you flipped the switch as if it was your last dying action.
You breathed over the sleeping girl and debated your next actions. You should punch her till she passed out, but wondered if you could bring yourself to hurt your friend. You were way too tired to push her into a sleep that would last long enough to secure Ashido’s safety.
You decided to drag Hagakure into the nearest building. You knew you needed to make her pass out, there was no point in forcing her into a sleep she would just wake up from. You sighed before pulling back your fist. Although you couldn’t see Toru, you still punched the girl, using your opposite hand to get a reading on her emotions. In the body, you could tell when someone is passed out and when that moment came, you finally stopped and sat down for just a moment.
You needed to stand up. You couldn’t stop.
Maybe you just weren’t cut out for this class. Maybe you needed to be put into a lower class level. Your old school never did exercise this intense. You ignored the depressing thoughts and told yourself to just finish this battle. Finish this battle and then you can figure out whether or not you deserve to be here.
You pushed yourself off the ground when a groan. Your stomach didn’t hurt from the punch anymore, but your knees were definitely bruised and your head still pounded with every use of your quirk.
Speaking of which, you left the building and faced where you saw Ashido disappear from minutes ago. You used to quirk to locate her and noticed how far away she was. Although tired, you didn’t put much thought into your actions and started running after the pink girl. You knew she was much faster than you when it came to travel distance, but part of your skills was the speed to avoid moves and you hoped that would pay off today.
Ashido was close to crossing the boundary, close to safety, proving that she was much faster than you, making it difficult to catch up to her. You knew she would stop eventually though, she didn’t remember where the base was set up. When Ashido crossed over the tape into the orange sector, she paused for a moment, debating which way to go. During that time, you were able to catch up just enough that you could call out to her. No one was near, so you didn’t have to worry about anyone overhearing.
“Ashido-kun!” You called out to your friend as you watched her turn the corner down an alleyway.
Within a moment, her head popped back around the corner, and she smiled brightly at you. “Y/L/N-kun!” She used her quirk to slide across the concrete road towards you. “It’s so great to see a teammate!” She stopped in front of you and waved the flag like a child who won a toy. “Look what I got!”
You smiled in response. “Good job!”
Ashido’s smile widened. You didn’t have to touch her to realize how excited she was to see you and to be helping the team so greatly. “Can you help me find the team? And you can tell me how everyone is doing on the way.”
“Yeah, just follow me,” You responded, before heading towards your team.
You were able to use your quirk to see that Kirishima and the others were still located in the corner they originally stationed themselves in.
After making a path in your mind on how to reach your team, you started telling Ashido how the battle was going on your side. “So, I know for sure that I and Kaminari knocked out Tsu. While we fought her, the other teams found Bakugou and teamed up against him. We caught up with them. By the time I left, Sato and Koda were unconscious leaving Todoroki and Ojirou to fight against Kaminari and Bakugou.”
You took a moment to check back in on Kirishima’s location as Ashido listened tentatively to your story. “I think that they can beat Ojirou, but Todoroki is difficult. If Bakugou and Kaminari get so caught up on fighting against Todoroki, we won’t be able to go to the blue sector and get their flag.”
“Yeah, I’m sure everyone is going to come after us now,” Ashido added.
“I wonder if the Green Team is still fighting the Blue Team,” You mumbled.
“Can you check?” Ashido asked.
“Yeah,” You sighed, “But my head really hurts from using it so much, so I don’t think I should. It’s probably more important that I rest up.”
Ashido hummed in response, not asking you any more questions.
After another minute of walking, you finally came into view of your team. You were able to see Kirishima’s prominent red hair shining in the sun. Around him was tape attached from wall to wall, as if blockading them in, no one was small enough to reach through the small gaps left. However, you knew multiple people in the class you could blast through or even sacrifice themselves to create an opening for others. Kirishima turned around when Ashido yelled out his name.
“Hey!” He smiled at you both, excited you captured their flag. He turned to look at something you couldn’t see. “Sero! Take some tape down so Ashido-kun and Y/L/N-kun can get in!”
Sero walked into view and casually waved at the two of you before using the sharp edge at the end of his helmet to cut some tape. He gave you and Ashido just enough room to get into the area before he taped it back up.
“How is everything?” Sero asked as Kirishima and Aoyama put the flag next to the orange one.
“Okay,” You mumbled. “We were able to knock a few people from the other teams out but,” You paused for a moment to hone in on Bakugou’s thoughts, “Bakugou and Kaminari are fighting Todoroki. I know Bakugou is pretty beat up, but Kaminari is in good shape.”
“Are they in the Blue sector?” Aoyama asked.
“Um, no. Still in the green sector.” You took in a deep breath and concentrated on the Blue sector. “The Green and Blue team are still fighting over the flag. It’s Midoriya, Iida, and Tokoyami against Momo, Jirou, Shoji, and Mineta. Although I’m pretty sure Mineta has passed out, I can’t find his thoughts and that usually means he’s asleep.”
Kirishima hummed in response, his hand found its way to his chin as he processed everything happening, debating what to do next.
In your own mind, you debated the only option that seemed best for you. I people went to Bakugou’s aide and distracted Todoroki, then he could get away and go fight in the Blue Sector. Or maybe Kirishima and Ashido should just go fight the Blue team and leave Bakugou and Kaminari to finish off Todoroki.
Although it wasn’t very responsible to leave so few people monitoring the flags when your team has two and will be the obvious targets.
Everyone stayed silent, debating their own ideas in their head, most of which were difficult to pull off.
“So,” Ashido started, taking a seat on the ground and leaning her back against a nearby building, “What now?”
The group looked around at each other, wondering who was going to talk first. Personally, you knew you should go find them, but you were so tired and knew there was very little you could go against the people you were fighting. Just imagining Iida coming at you, unable to use your quirk to help your team, sent shivers down your spine. You stayed silent, praying someone else would speak up with another idea.
“I suppose we need to get in contact with Bakugou and Kaminari. We don’t know if they are going to come back here or go to the Blue side,” Sero spoke.
Guess not.
“That’s true,” Aoyama added, “but the best person to find them would be Y/L/N-kun and she is obviously tired.”
Thank God.
“I’ll take her,” Sero replied. “She can guide me and with my tape, I can probably get there in just a few minutes. Then, we can distract or maybe even beat Todoroki and get everyone back here.”
Kirishima stepped into the circle forming around you and Ashido. “With everyone here, we can wait and see who gets here first. For example, if Midoriya gets here, obviously Bakugou would want to stay and other people will go get the other flag.
“That may actually work,” Ashido added, grinning widely.
The team made quick work of getting everyone ready. Currently, you were waiting outside the tape barricade for Sero to apply the finishing touches to his defenses. Once done, waved goodbye and came up to you, smiling brightly.
“Okay,” He started. “So just tell me which way to go and I can use my quirk to fling us from building to building.”
You nodded and Sero tentatively grabbed onto your waist. You knew he needed to do that to help you travel and you weren’t at all thrown off when he did so. However, his body was comparatively much colder than Bakugou’s and the tape dispense in his elbow jammed at you back.
This would not be a comfortable ride.
Sero launched both of you into the sky, moving quickly. All that could be heard was the fast wind piercing your ears and the directions you have to the brunette.
Soon enough, the directions were unnecessary because the eruptions of Bakugou’s quirk were big enough to see. Sero decided it would be best for you to arrive by making a big entrance. You both swooped in just as Bakugou was preparing a move. Sero sped up and kicked Todoroki straight in the head before having you both land on the ground. You almost lost your balance, but his hand around your waist stayed and helped you keep yourself up. You looked up at him and he winked.
“What the fuck was that?!”
You looked up to see Bakugou, who was fuming in his eyes. His condition was similar to how you left him, just with a few more burn marks.
The blond stomped his way to you and Sero. “I was just about to hit him!”
“It sure didn’t look like it,” Sero laughed. “It looked like he was about to pummel you.”
“What the fuck do you know, tape-for-brains?” Bakugou yelled.
Sero just chuckled in response so Bakugou looked down at you instead.
Sometimes, it really was nice to hear people’s thoughts. For example, right now, thoughts of jealousy rushed through Bakugou’s head. He was slightly annoyed that Sero ruined his attack, but he was more so jealous that Sero got to touch you the same way he did.
The anger in his eyes was replaced with confusion as he looked at you. He almost looked like a puppy, or maybe a kitten, begging you to tell him that it meant nothing.
You looked down at the ground, wondering if Bakugou remembered that you could hear his thoughts. Now was not the time to address Bakugou’s subconscious, jealous feelings. On top of that, you were sure your face was redder than it had been
“Hey, guys!’ Kaminari smiled, cutting through the awkward air. “Come to save us?”
“I don’t need saving, Pikachu!” Bakugou yelled in response.
“Calm down, sheesh,” Kaminari stuck his hands up as if the cops were holding guns to him.
“Whatever, let’s just go finish Todoroki already,” Bakugou mumbled, turning away from the group to look at the heterochromatic boy in question.
He was worse off than Bakugou was, it was difficult for his body to hold a proper temperature and after a fight this long, it was really taking a toll on him.
I can’t believe this intense fucking game of capture the flag is considered a regular day of school here… you thought. Suddenly, Bakugou grabbed your hand and pulled you towards the enemy.
I’ll hit him and you make him sleep, was all you heard before the tired Todoroki enveloped your feet in ice.
“Fuck!”
You looked behind you to see Kaminari caught in the same trap. Sero, however, was able to use his tape to pull himself out.
Bakugou squeezed onto your hand even tighter and used his opposite hand to explode him and then yourself out of the ice.
Sero came in once again and managed to get a hit on Todoroki. Bakugou followed up with exploding into the competitor’s face while he was busy with Sero.
You, remembering what Bakugou had thought earlier, rushed up to Todoroki and grabbed his wrist while he prepared to burn Bakugou.
Todoroki’s flames stopped and he looked over at you with wide eyes. You were still trying to calm him down to make the switch appear, but Todoroki was fast to act and recover from your actions.
You weren’t able to hear his thoughts as you focused so heavily on his emotions. His emotions were slowly changing to become more calm. However, a burst of red shot through your vision as opposed to the relaxed and determined purples and greens that reflected in his mind.
Ice shot through Todoroki’s left side, which you happened to be holding onto, and you felt your hand freeze, the cold shooting throughout your body. Instinctually, you tried to pull your arm back, worried the ice might harm your skin. However, seeing as you were now frozen to him, you are unable to move your hand away.
Fuck! It’s so cold!
Goosebumps arose on your skin and shivers when down your spine. The ice continued to crawl up your skin. You knew Todoroki was trying to prevent you from making him fall asleep without hurting you very much.
Todoroki rapidly moved so he had better leverage over your body. He placed one knee on the ground and held his left arm over his shoulder. He was then able to lean forward and pull you over his body and slam your body onto the hard concrete.
You were still attached to Todoroki and although waves of pain shot throughout your back, you knew you had to keep working. You focused back in on Todoroki’s emotions and worked even faster to calm him down. The red and orange hues of battle and anger morphed into blues and purples. He was fighting against your actions but was unable to fight back anymore.
The light switch appeared, although far away from your reach. You pushed Todoroki farther into your relaxing trap, his breathing shallowed and his heartbeat slowed. Finally, you were in reach of your goals.
“Sleep,” You whispered, and his eyes closed.
Slowly, you sat up from your position on the ground. Your hand was still frozen, your head still pounded, and now you had back pains you were sure would last weeks. You looked up at the three boys around you, Kaminari and Sero stared at you with shock and worry. They were wondering if you were okay or if they should take you out of the game now.
On the other hand, once Bakugou noticed you were able to make Todoroki fall asleep, he stormed up to you and put his hand on the ice where your hand was grabbing Todoroki’s wrist. “This is going to hurt a bit, just stay still okay?”
You nodded in response and Bakugou used small explosions to heat up the ice. You felt the heat and explosions against your skin, but they didn’t hurt much and Bakugou was being safe enough to stop just before all the ice would have melted. He moved farther up your arm and used the same method to melt the ice that crawled up your skin.
Bakugou looked at you when most of the ice was finally melted away. He motioned his head to tell you that you could break away by yourself.
“I can’t, he’ll wake up,” You responded.
Bakugou looked at you, to your hand, and then to Todoroki’s sleeping body. “Hey, idiots!” Bakugou called over his other teammates who were still just watching the situation unfold. “Tie him up and then shock him to make him pass out.”
After recovering from the shock of being taken out of his trance, Sero quickly wrapped up Todoroki’s body, being careful not to get you tied into the tape. Once done, you broke your hand free of the icy grip and Kaminari electrocuted Todoroki much like he did with Tsu. Both boys then moved Todoroki into one of the buildings.
While they moved Todoroki, you awkwardly stood off to the side. With the battle no longer distracting you, your mind was free to roam and right now, all you could think about was the jealous thoughts that ran through Bakugou’s head when you and Sero first arrived. Not only that, but Bakugou had grabbed your hand earlier, giving you skin to skin contact once more. You wondered if he was always so warm because of his quirk, or if maybe his body was hot because he was just as nervous as you.
“So,” You looked up from the ground to see that Bakugou moved to be standing next to you, “What now?” He only spared a moment to look at you before noticing you were looking at him. Abruptly, he turned his focus back onto your two teammates.
“Um,” You bit your lip, taking a moment to push your previous thoughts out of your head in order to focus on the situation at hand. “We are going back to home base.”
“Why? Shouldn’t we go get the Blue flag?” Bakugou asked. He was much calmer now than he was when talking to Kaminari and Sero. You made a mental note to try and figure out why later.
“We wanted to head back to make sure we have appropriate reinforcements. Like, if you run off to the Blue sector and then Midoriya comes here, the plan is kinda ruined,” You responded.
Bakugou thought over your explanation for a second before agreeing with a hum. After a brief and awkward pause, Bakugou spoke again, “Do you know where everyone else is right now?”
“I can try checking,” You replied, “but I am a bit tired and don’t know how great my range will be.” You took in a deep breath, something that wasn’t necessary, but was a habit for you when using your quirk on bigger scales.
Just before you delved yourself into the world of thoughts, Bakugou stopped you. “Don’t waste your energy then, we will be fine without knowing.”
You nodded, too shocked to verbally reply. Bakugou did not at all seem like the type of person to care about the individual over the group outcome. Because of this, it especially shocked you. Speaking of which…
“Bakugou,” You started, “Are you okay? Is there anywhere you are really hurt?” You asked him, eyes darting around his body and examining the burns, bruises, and blood that littered his pale, golden skin.
“Don’t worry about me,” He mumbled, turning his body away from you and crossing his arms.
He was offended you asked him. Annoyed you didn’t think he was strong enough. Even though you once again could not feel his skin and experience his emotions at hand, it was obvious from his thoughts that he was upset.
It upset you slightly that he forced you to let him take care of you for the team, but refused to let you do the same. How someone’s thoughts could change so easily in only an hour was ridiculous.
As someone who could hear thoughts and experience others' emotions, it was more common for people to think that you would be best as a rescue hero or a healing hero. When younger, you were trained in first-aid and how to utilize your quirk to help those around you. The idea of helping Bakugou tempted you. However, you knew it best to leave him alone.
For both of you.
You swallowed down your worries for that moment, promising yourself that it was okay to deny your ever-growing crush on Bakugou.
Kaminari and Sero exited the building smiling as if their energy from defeating Todoroki revitalized them.
“Are you ready to head back?” Sero asked as he and Kaminari approached you and Bakugou.
You looked towards Bakugou, still able to tell he was mildly upset about your comment earlier. “Yeah,” His hoarse voice responded.
Kaminari then looked towards you, “Y/L/N-chan, who would you like to go with, Sero or Bakugou?”
Your brain immediately debated between the two boys. On one hand, Bakugou got jealous when I rode with Sero, but now he seems a little upset at me. Maybe he wouldn’t want to ride with me because of tha--
“She’s going with me,” Bakugou interrupted. Everyone looked at Bakugou.
Or not.
You bit your bottom lip and furrowed your eyebrows out of stress, noticing the jealous thoughts that once again ran through Bakugou’s head.
You weren’t an idiot. You knew what it means to be possessive over someone, but you met Bakugou only a few days ago and things didn’t even start off well. On top of that, Bakugou seemed almost oblivious to his possessiveness, making his intentions even more confusing.
Bakugou squinted his eyes at your reaction to his comment before looking back at the two other teammates. “You guys know the way back. Me and him,” Bakugou gestured towards Kaminari, “don’t. So, we have to split up.”
The answer seemed to satisfy Kaminari and Sero who made quick work of positioning themselves in the least romantic way they could. Currently, Kaminari and Sero were connected by a tape belt that kept them within 2 meters of each other. When Sero set off towards camp, Kaminari held onto the tape, basically dangling under Sero as he moved.
“Ready?” You heard Bakugou mumble, moving your attention elsewhere.
You looked up at Bakugou and found yourself biting your lip again, wondering what Bakugou’s thoughts meant. It was as easy as A + B = C because Bakugou sure didn’t realize what his thoughts meant. He was, however, great at hiding them to others.
“Yeah,” You looked down at your feet, his crimson eyes stared into yours and made the atmosphere fill with awkwardness.
“Don’t look at me like that,” Bakugou mumbled as his hand found its way around your waist, “Baka.” (usually playful way to call someone dumb).
You looked up at Bakugou once more as his hand touched the skin of your waist. His emotions rushed through you, but you were more focused on the smirk on Bakugou’s face and the glint in his eyes. Before you could respond, Bakugou launched both of you in the same direction Sero went.

Unrequited Love
Hi all, (everyone who is still here that is!) just a random post by me! Not totally random actually. I was just going through my old documents and I found a FFXV one shot I had completely finished but never posted for some reason. I re-read it and actually quite liked it, so I thought I’d stop by and post it for anyone still around! It’s a bit of slight Noctis angst, I hope you enjoy if you read!
(Also, I stop by from time to time and see notifications still popping up. You are all still so lovely!)
Prompto x Reader x Noctis (kind of!) SFW This is a long one!
She had confessed her feelings to him at the beginning of their journey, but he’d rejected them to stick to his duty. After a while she moved on and started dating Prom, which is... great! Fantastic really! Then why did he feel so shitty...?
Noctis was sure, he thought to himself as he shuffled around in his sleeping bag, that the six had a pretty sick sense of humour. They had to have, judging by his current predicament. Either that, or he had done something really, really, really bad in a past life to deserve this.
Gods above it wasn’t fair.
It wasn’t fair that he was the one chosen to be the king of kings, having his future laid out and already planned for him. It wasn’t fair that he had to marry Luna, an area in life where he ought to have control, yet had none. And it certainly wasn’t fair that the actual girl he was in love with, was with someone else.
And that someone was his best friend.
To make matters worse, she had previously admitted feelings for Noctis too, early on in their journey. But he’d had to say no, that he was already betrothed to another, that he couldn’t do that to Luna or his family. A familiar sinking feeling clawed at Noctis’ gut as he recalled that day, the regret of his words churning in his stomach.
What an idiot.
How different life could’ve been if he’d only told her how he felt that day. Instead, he had kept his lips sealed and she had moved on. Unfortunately, to a certain blond haired sharp shooter.
Although he had his back to them, Noctis could hear them both now, whispering to each other in a shared sleeping bag. Did they have to be so... so affectionate? Constantly touching, constantly giggling. It was like they lived to torture him.
Noctis stifled a groan, the pit in his stomach growing ever deeper. The whispering of the two finally ceased, and Noctis was about to send a silent thanks to the gods, before an odd sound stopped him.
Are they...?
A sharp wet sound emanated from behind him, confirming his suspicions. They were making out, completely unaware of the wide awake prince laid only mere inches away from them.
I must’ve done something absolutely awful in a previous life.
Before he could prevent it, a perfect picture of the scene behind him had appeared in his mind; her wrapped tightly against Prompto’s body, his arms tight against her, pulling her to his frame. Their lips locked in a heated kiss, eyes communicating their sheer desperation for each other.
It was like a knife had impaled his stomach. The mental image paired with the the all too real sounds behind him was enough to make him queasy. The thing was though, he couldn’t even find it in himself to be angry at either of them. He had rejected her, and she had ended up with Prom - why shouldn’t they have got together? It was neither of their fault, no. Could he even blame himself however? Was it his own fault, even though he’d been born into this life with all of his future, all of his destiny already set out for him? Was it his fault for following his duty? He wasn’t certain, but he was damn sure that it sucked.
Curling his fingertips into the soft material of his pillow, Noctis attempted to block out the almost heavenly sighs that fell from her lips. Slowly he drifted off, plagued with thoughts of how if only he had the chance, he could make her sigh like that...
The ever delicious scent of Ignis’ cooking drifted to your nose as the evening meal was presented to you and your camp mates. Your stomach grumbled in anticipation, desperate for fuel after the exhausting day you’d all had. “I dunno if it’s because I’m ravenous, or if you’ve done an extra special job of it tonight Iggy, but this is the best meal I’ve ever laid my eyes upon!” Your boyfriend Prompto sighed dramatically from beside you, eyes lighting up as he was handed his food.
“Kid’s right Iggy, this is good stuff.” Gladio nodded, already digging into his larger than average portion.
“Mmmmph...” came your almost orgasmic sigh of agreement.
“Well, thank you everyone, but I dare say that I haven’t done anything extra special tonight. Perhaps we were all ready for a meal after our rather busy day.” Ignis modestly brushed aside the compliments, but you could tell he was pleased by the corners of his mouth rising, fighting to hide the beam threatening to reveal itself.
You were halfway through your food before you realised that Noctis hadn’t said a word since sitting down. Casting your eyes over to the prince, you saw his figure sitting rather slumped over on the floor opposite you. One hand gripped a fork rather loosely as he stabbed the utensil repeatedly into the same carrot, in and out, over and over. His brow line puckered slightly, the hints of a frown forming over his dull looking eyes. It struck you that he sort of looked like... he was sulking. And now you thought about it, he’d been really grumpy all day, unresponsive and quiet.
Wonder what’s up with him? You thought, glancing once more. Strands of his jet black hair fell into his eyes, causing him to blink those long lashes and sweep his head slightly to clear his vision.
Your heart stuttered.
As much as you didn’t want it, he was still able to get you like that. One little move of his head or gesture of his hands, and it shook you again just how pretty he was.
It truly was hard to forget about your first love.
Drawing your eyes away you searched for another familiar pair, gaze landing on the ever smiling, ever warm face of your boyfriend and immediately you felt better. As much as Noctis could sometimes catch you off guard, you knew for certain you loved Prompto. There was no doubt there.
“You okay [Name]?” His kind face and genuine smile had you smiling back instantly.
“Sure am Prom.” You replied, resting a hand on his knee. Naturally, his hand rested on top of yours, warm and safe.
“What’s the matter with you prince sulks?” Gladio voiced your earlier question, albeit a little more teasingly. Everyone stopped eating to glance over at the Prince in question.
Noctis shot Gladio a glare, his eyes clearly saying ‘don’t even start’.
“Is there something on your mind that you wish to share?” Ignis asked this time, much more accommodatingly.
“No. Why, does it look like it?” His voice was gruff, annoyed. There was definitely something up.
“Well, you’ve not really said much since coming back, and you’ve barely touched your food.” You offered.
“Yeah pal, is there anything we can help with?” Prompto offered his best friend, leaning forward so he could pat his leg.
Finally Noctis looked up, but as you caught his expression your heart sank. He looked mighty pissed.
“I said there isn’t anything. Why do you guys have to push me all the time?”
Prompto blinked, taken aback by his friend’s blunt tone.
“I just wanted to see if there’s anything I could do to-”
“Well there isn’t Prompto. There’s nothing that anyone can do, okay?” The prince snapped, rising to his feet.
Prompto’s face fell, and that was like someone had pressed the anger button on inside you. You were suddenly furious. How could he talk like that to his best friend?
“What the hell is up with you?” Standing to your feet, you walked over to the sulky prince.
“Nothing, [Name].”
“Nothing? So you think you can talk to people like that because... because nothing?”
Noctis looked at you, fully frowning now, agitation apparent in his ocean blue eyes.
“Guys, I think we should just cool it...” Prompto’s quiet voice attempted to cut the tension which was now crackling in the air.
“I agree, Noctis I’m not sure what’s wrong, but we must-”
“I’d have been fine if people had just left me alone.” Noctis cut over Ignis.
“Sorry that people care about you.” You retorted, anger still clouding your better judgement.
“Yeah well, I never asked for people to. I never asked for any of this.”
“You ungrateful little-”
“Noctis.” Gladio’s voice stopped you from finishing your sentence. He hadn’t shouted, hadn’t raised his voice, but his deep rumbling tone halted you. “I think you should go and take a walk. Cool down. Come back when you have a better head on, cause this is going no where.”
“Tch, fine.” Noctis grumbled, but turned on his heel and stalked off into the night, leaving the four of you hurt, annoyed and confused.
The campsite seemed overly quiet now that the prince was gone, suffocatingly so. Every cough and every shuffle was heard, adding to the already tense atmosphere.
“I just don’t understand. It’s not like him.” Prompto said for the fifth time. He was anxiously picking at the hem of his shirt, pulling at a loose thread. Every so often you had to lay your hand atop his to remind him to stop before it became threadbare.
“I know what you mean, I don’t get what’s up with him.” Gladio sighed and stretched.
“Perhaps his last comment gave us some insight? He said he never asked for any of this. He has never been overly fond on what his future holds in store for him...” Ignis offered a solution in a quiet speculative tone. You almost scoffed however.
“It still doesn’t give him the right to talk to his best friend like dirt.” Prompto squeezed your hand in silent thanks, but you knew that the blond wasn’t even angry. In fact, you correctly assumed that he was more worried for Noctis’ safety right now.
Pure person through and through.
“I do wish we could know where he went.” Ignis sighed, guardian-like instincts kicking in.
“I’m sure he’ll be fine specs, he’ll come back when he’s ready.” Gladio attempted to appease Ignis, to no avail.
You had a pretty good idea of where Noctis might have headed to, thinking back to the car journey earlier on that day. The only time when the prince had shown remotely any interest in what was going on around him is when you had driven past a very large lake. It was highly plausible that he’d gone to check it out. The more you thought about it, the more that you were certain this is where he’d have headed. And the more you thought about it, the more you realised you could remember the way there. And the more you thought about that, the more you realised this was a good a chance as any to have a proper conversation with him. And to possibly lecture him on how to actually talk to his best friend.
I can go there, yank him back here and make him apologise.
Looking over at Prompto’s anxious face, his top front teeth gently nibbling on his lower lip, you knew this was the right thing to do. You stood up quite forcefully, drawing the attention of the other three boys.
“[Name]...?”
“I’m going to go find him, and bring him back. Then I’m going to get him to apologise.”
Ignis sighed, Gladio nodded, and Prom...
“Are you sure you want to do that [Name]?” He stammered, looking torn between some inner dilemma.
“I’m sure. I think I know where to look, but I’ll be fine. I can’t have him talking to you like that Prom. I can’t.”
“He was just angry, he didn’t mean it.”
“Well then, he can just say sorry when I drag him back here.” You told Prompto with a reassuring smile. The blond boy finally smiled back, standing up to face you.
“Thank you [Name]. Be safe.” He told you, and with a quick kiss you set off in search of one sulky prince to bring home.
Just as you’d expected, Noctis had made his way over to the lake that your group had passed earlier. You could see his silhouette from where you stood; his shadowed figure sat crossed legged on the wooden pier which stretched out into the middle of the lake. The perfect fishing spot, yet he wasn’t fishing.
Well shit, there’s gotta be something really wrong with him then.
It hadn’t taken you all too long to get there since you knew which paths to take, however it was still a rather long way away from where your group had pitched the tent. It had been a miracle that no daemons had attacked you, dark as it was out. You wondered how long the prince had been sat there, not fishing, just sitting and watching the lake.
Taking a deep breath, you walked out from your hiding spot and marched all the way down to the lake, stopping to stand a few feet away from Noctis. He didn’t move upon your arrival, showed no sign that he was even aware of your presence.
You cleared your throat.
“Noctis?”
“[Name]?” Was his reply, quiet but with a hint of sullen sarcasm you knew well. Swallowing the biting response you wanted to give, you instead replied;
“What are you doing out here?”
He didn’t answer straight away, still looking down at his hands. In fact, he took so long to answer that you weren’t sure if he’d even heard you. But then finally;
“It’s peaceful out here. When it’s night like this, lakes always seem that much more... tranquil. Kinda makes me feel like time has stopped, at least in this little area, y’know?” His reply startled you a little, it hadn’t been what you were expecting. And looking around the lake, you could kind of see what he meant. But as lovely as the lake was, you weren’t here to discuss that. You had a purpose in mind for travelling all the way out here, and feeling sorry for the prince wasn’t it.
“Noctis, I don’t really understand your train of thought right now, but what I do know, is that you snapped at everyone and left your best friend feeling highly confused and rather hurt.” He could probably hear the accusatory edge to your voice.
Well, good.
“Look, I didn’t mean to upset anyone. I just hate it when everyone is pushing me.”
“Yeah, well y’did.”
“I know that [Name].” He finally turned to look at you, those ocean blues flashing with a hint of frustration. “Don’t think I don’t know that, cause I do. It makes me feel worse than I already do, alright?”
You folded your arms. “Then come back and apologise.”
“Tch, I’m not going back there yet.” He mumbled, his eyes dropping once more. This only annoyed you further.
“So, it makes you feel bad, and yet... you’re not gonna apologise for what you’ve done? Is that it?”
“N-n... that’s not what I said.” The prince suddenly sprang to his feet, his body towering over you. He was getting worked up at your words, the biting remarks nibbling away at his ability to think clearly enough to explain himself coherently.
“You aren’t the only one going through some tough shit, okay?” You snapped, unaware at his inner turmoil.
“Obviously! I never once said- it’s really hard for me to- just stop pushing me, alright?”
“No. If you won’t apologise then we at least get to know what’s got that stick so far up your butt!” You drew yourself up to try and make yourself look taller. There was no way he was worming out of this one, and you could tell he knew. He could sense your determination, his eyes betraying the slightest hint of panic within the frustration.
“[Name], seriously, you-”
“No Noctis! We’re sick of it! We can’t even help you if you don’t explain.”
“You can’t help me.”
“Why not? What is it Noctis?” Your voice was sharp but your eyes were gentle. Underneath all of your annoyance, you really did just want to help your friend.
“[Name], really, you don’t-”
“What is it?”
“I’m telling you, you’re not-”
“What is it?”
“[Name]-!”
“Just tell me what it is!”
“It’s you!”
You paused, the words you were about to say dying in your throat. It was... you? You were the reason he was acting this way? Unease swirled in your stomach.
I’ve been making him feel like this...?
Noctis was almost panting, seeming out of breath from your shouting match. Although he seemed weary, he did not look as if he regretted saying so.
“It’s...me?” You whispered, his answer throwing you completely. Noctis sighed heavily, one hand rising to awkwardly scratch the back of his neck. Suddenly he almost seemed... tired.
“Look... that came out wrong, okay? It’s not... it’s not just you.”
“But I... I’ve done something to hurt you?” The crack in her voice at the end of the sentence physically pained him to hear, made him want to take back everything he’d just said. He’d suffer with it all internally if he never had to hear her sound pained again.
“[Name], it’s not something you’ve done. Please, just let it go.” Noctis pleaded, knowing his efforts would more than likely be futile. Slowly he turned away from her, walking once again to the edge of the wooden beams to sit down, dangling his legs only centimeters above the calm lake. Not looking at her made this easier. Her crumpled expression only further pained his heart, and it was getting hard to quell the need to comfort her as it was.
Gentle padding sounds as she walked to sit next to him told him she wasn’t going to give up that easily. Frustrated, he repressed a groan.
Not. Fucking. Fair.
“Noctis...whatever I’ve done, I want to know. It was never my intention to hurt you.”
Of course it wasn’t, pure soul that she was.
Her quiet tone caused him to sneak a peek at her from the corner of his eye. She was sat close to him, legs dangling, an almost mirror of his pose. All traces of previous anger had been washed from her face, instead, confusion and remorse took its place.
He hated that he was responsible for it.
“Honestly, there really isn’t anything you could have done about it. I’m not sure there’s anything anyone could have done about it. My future has been set since day one, I don’t have a say in this stuff... and I sure as hell don’t have a say in who I fall in love with either.”
A quick intake of breath from his immediate right caused him to realise what he’d just said out loud.
Shit!
His head snapped to look at her fully now. She was turned to him, eyes wide in shock as the realisation of what he’d just admitted sunk in. Quickly he began to try and explain.
“[Name], I-”
“That’s not fucking fair.” Her voice was dull as she cut over him. To his surprise, tears quickly gathered in the corner of her eyes which were rapidly becoming tinted with red. She was... really upset. He had been expecting anger. Not sadness.
“That’s really un-fucking-fair of you Noctis. You know... you know how I felt about you. It took a while to get over that rejection.”
“I’m sorr-”
“You don’t get to say that to me now Noctis! I’m with Prompto, I’ve moved on! I picked myself up and carried on living, you can’t just, just waltz back in and say that. It’s not fair!”
“I know.” He uttered, so softly it was as if he was speaking to himself. It was your turn to be surprised at the sadness of his tone. A few moments of silence passed between the both of you, your eyes trained on the almost black waters beneath you. It was hard to really believe what he’d admitted... he loved you?
Noctis broke the silence first with a soft sigh. Well, if the cat was out of the bag, he may as well try and explain himself.
“I tried so hard to stop it. Y’know? I knew it wasn’t fair, believe me, that’s all I’ve been saying these past few months. Not fair on you, Prom, or me. But, [Name],” He took a deep breath; “you’ve no idea how fucking hard it is when I see you cuddled up to him every night.”
Her eyelids fluttered shut as he spoke, a little pucker forming between her brows as she frowned slightly. There it was again, that look of pain. But he couldn’t stop explaining now he’d started, it would be better to get to the bottom of it.
“It’s not like I resent either of you. Honestly, I was happy for the both of you. But I also felt like absolute shit. Took me a while to realise why, guess I’ve never been one to be clued up about their emotions.”
That earned him a slight snort.
“Yeah, guess that’s no secret either, right?” His words were tinged with regret.
Chancing a glance her way he saw that her eyes were still closed. However, she made no move to stop him explaining, so he continued, eager to finally get it out in the open.
“So when I finally realised how I felt about you... well, the fact that it was far too late sucked. And it just got me thinking, if my life wasn’t so predestined, if I had even a little bit of control over areas of my life where I really should, then we’d be together. We’d be together right now [Name]. No pre-arranged wedding duties. And it’s just been eating at me how little of a choice I get over pretty much everything in my life. Then listening to you and Prom giggling and enjoying each other every night... I just wanted that.”
Finally he petered off, letting the weight of what he’d said hang in the air. It was like the burden had finally been lifted from his shoulders - she knew how he felt. He’d told her, in probably the longest speech he’d ever given in his life, and it just felt good to not have it burning him from the inside.
Although that may all go to shit the next time her and Prom start sucking face again. He almost grimaced at the thought.
The seconds ticked by in what felt like hours, she didn’t breath a word. Shyly Noctis turned to face her again, noticing her eyes were finally open, wide and [e/c], staring right back at him. The whites of her eyes were tinged a deeper red, and fresh tears had collected in her lids. His heart almost broke. He wanted to stop the crying, comfort her, take it all back, anything to stop her tears.
Undecidedly, he lifted his hand, fingers outstretched to rest on her shoulder, but froze in mid air.
“[Name], you don’t know how sorry I am.” He whispered, and she replied with a quiet sob from deep in her throat.
Before he knew what he was doing, the one sound caused him to finally reach out to her, close the distance between them. In no time at all, his strong arms were wrapped around her shoulders, her waist. Her head buried in the crook of his neck, holding her close as she sobbed. His fingers rubbed soothing circles into her back as he held her, noticing with a sick, ironic pleasure that they fit together so well. Like his arms had been made to fit her body exactly.
Could this get any worse? He was comforting her.
But she’s not yours.
They fit together perfectly, like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle together at last.
But she’s not yours.
She was all he wanted. But she wasn’t his to have.
Fuck, this sucks.
Noctis wasn’t sure how long he sat there, holding her. Time truly seemed at a stand still; they were lost in this little hidden part of nature. He wasn’t sure when her tears finally stopped, but he could feel her breathing return to normal, her silent sobs no longer racking her chest. Still, he couldn’t let her go. Didn’t dare move for fear of breaking this moment with her, her face gently buried into the side of his neck, wrapped in his embrace. He knew it would never happen again, despite how much he wanted it.
It couldn’t.
“Noctis?” Her voice was soft, thick from the tears she’d shed.
“Yes?” They were almost whispering, but in the tranquil quiet of the night, the sound seemed to echo in his skull.
“I’m in love with Prompto.”
“I know.” His reply was gentle, but the feeling in his heart was anything but. The admission shouldn’t have been a surprise to him, he’d known it for a while. He could tell just by how she looked at him, the pure adoration for Prom in her heart. It still hurt. He wished she’d look at him like that.
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be.” He uttered, one hand absentmindedly reaching up to tuck a stray hair back behind her ear.
“It’s me who should be apologising. To everyone back at camp, but mostly to you. It wasn’t fair for me to dump all of my baggage on you like that. I just... felt I had to.”
“No... I’m glad you did.” She had lowered her voice, and it came out slightly mumbled into his shoulder, but it meant the world to him anyway. It felt like she’d accepted what he said, and that was the best he could hope for right now.
“Thank you [Name].” He whispered, his voice trailing off, leaving what he wished he could say hanging in the air between them both.
I love you.

it’s all alright
Summary: Jon's ill-- they both are, and Martin's doing his best to be okay.
(missing scene from "steady, love”)
Inner thoughts are formatted in italics, and the Eye speaks in glitched text.
QUICK RECAP: Martin's got pneumonia, and spread his germs to Jon. Jon's just regular sick though-- Martin has pneumonia because the Lonely made his illness worse.
---
“…No—yet still stedfast, still unchangeable, Pillow’d upon my fair love’s ripening breast, To feel for ever its soft fall and swell, Awake for ever in a sweet unrest, Still, still to hear his tender-taken breath, And so live ever—or else swoon to death.”
Giving a soft smile and sigh of contentment, Martin finishes his murmured reading, setting his notebook of favorites on the arm of the couch and continuing to move his hand through Jon’s graying locks.  He’d dozed off with his head on Martin’s lap nearly an hour ago, and Martin has been trying to soothe his restless sleep the best way he can.  Placing a hand over Jon’s sweat-beaded brow, he feels an immediate spike of anxiety pulse through him.
Fever’s up again.
This is, without a doubt, the worst day of Jon’s illness.  He’d spent the morning wracked with fever chills, constant fits of sneezing and coughing leaving him exhausted by midday.  Sweeping his gaze over the length of his rail-thin frame, a deep sorrow wells up in Martin’s chest, deep enough to drown him.  Constant stress and grief and hunger have clearly taken their toll; the price steep enough to drive Jon’s body far beyond limits of what might remotely be considered healthy.  He’s lost Tim, he’s lost Daisy, he endured the Buried and the Lonely just to save the people he loves and—
Martin hadn’t been there for him through any of it.
There’s no denying that.
All he can do is wish that he were at full capacity to see to Jon’s every need in the present.  As it stands right now, however, Martin still very much doubts his ability even to walk up the stairs under his own strength.
Pathetic.
He pauses, squeezing his eyes shut and shaking his head.
No, that’s not true.  You know it’s not.
We’re both ill and it’s not your fault.
…well, mostly, anyway.
Letting out a shaky breath, he allows himself a moment to collect all the small bursts of unease taking over his mind, pulling them together until they become something manageable.  As if awake enough to read his thoughts, Jon shifts over his lap, turning to burrow his face further into Martin’s thigh.
Martin feels a blush creeping over his cheeks, and finds himself unable to resist the urge to grin down at him.
I never thought I could have this.
Never thought I deserved it.
He cards a hand through Jon’s curls once more.
Maybe I don’t, but…I suppose it’s happened anyway, hasn’t it?
It’s happened and I’m so in love, I’m so in love
And he trusts me to be here with him. To be here for him.
Even if I am just a soft pillow to cuddle at the moment.
He exhales briefly in a silent laugh.  Unfortunately, this seems to jostle Jon’s skeletal frame—he sniffs miserably in response, sinuses still laden with congestion, before his chest heaves in a weak, echoing cough against Martin’s thigh.
Worry seeps into his bones as Jon’s body continues to shake with chills.  Eyeing the blanket draped over the back of the sofa, Martin’s every impulse drives him to pull it over onto him—but he knows it will only drive his temperature up.  He settles instead for rubbing gentle circles between his shoulder blades, guilt creeping steadily back in to strangle his heart.
God, what is wrong with you?
You’re really going to let yourself enjoy his misery?  Enjoy that he’s probably out of his mind with fever?
Because what, it makes him sweet?
Makes him want you?
Martin pulls his hand back from Jon’s shoulders as if it had been burned.
He doesn’t want you.
How could he?
Something sits heavy in Martin’s chest, threatening to bubble to the surface.
…no.  That’s not true.
He said he loves you, and that felt more true than anything Peter ever told you.
This is just loneliness.
A falsehood of your own making.
Martin sighs shallowly, attempting not to disturb the infection still living in his lungs.  Even with all this, with all his determination that his guilt is baseless—he cannot deny how much it hurts.  He tries to reach out, to touch Jon again, to anchor himself, but finds that he cannot.  Not with the constant doubt of Jon’s willingness to be comforted pulsing through his mind.
Another inhale, and—
His breath hitches at the top, chest burbling.
Shit.
Everything that had been racing through his mind ceases to be at once, replaced by a singular thought:
Don’t wake him don’t wake him don’t wake him
Martin’s lungs burn, beginning to tremble under the lack of oxygen.  Trembling quickly gives way to convulsions, his chest heaving with effort as he claps a hand over his mouth.  Desperate tears pool in his eyes when the movement disturbs Jon, who furrows his brow and moans in annoyance.
No no please no
He can see his glass of water on the coffee table, just outside of arm’s length, and knows he will not reach for it.  Instead, he tilts his head back, inhaling with caution, trying to convince the congestion to settle once again.
Knew I should have taken those cough suppressants.
Jon had let him take them only once before.  The first time Martin had requested them, it had been during another fever spike, and he had apparently been rambling—about how much noise he was making, how Jon needed to sleep, how Martin had done nothing but cause him harm.  Predictably enough, Jon had scolded him thoroughly for this, only allowing him to take them when the coughing had prevented Martin from sleep for nearly twenty-four hours.
“You need to cough, Martin; you need to get it out,” he had said.
“It’s too loud, it’s too loud, you shouldn’t have to—”
           “Stop.”
He had taken Martin’s hands from where he’d been wringing them in distress.
“Listen to me.  It’s loud, and it’s alright.  It’s loud, and it’s alright—I promise, darling.  Please…let yourself get well.”
The memory of these words rings through Martin’s mind.
Please let yourself get well.
He makes a decision.
Shaking Jon’s shoulder ever so lightly, Martin watches as he half-sits up, blinking blearily at him.
“M’tin?” he slurs.
Martin looks at him apologetically before he erupts, bending over his knees to cough violently into his elbow, stars dancing in the edges of his vision.
Sorry sorry I’m so sorry
---
When Martin begins coughing, Jon bolts upright, regretting it instantly as a wave of dizziness threatens to take him straight back down.  He squeezes his eyes shut for a moment, willing the feeling to pass as Martin shows no signs of letting up.
Jesus, what’s happening?
At last, he feels steady enough to blink his eyes open, squinting against the light of midday streaming through the living room window.  The feeling of confusion, however, does not fade, and he’s all-too aware of his climbing temperature.
3̦̺9̗͋̈.̹͖͑2̐
God, shut up.
With some difficulty, he turns his attention to Martin, who is still hunched over, his cough producing nothing but an endless churning.  At last, some clarity makes its way into his thoughts, and Jon reaches out a hand to rest between Martin’s shoulders.
“D’you need the inhaler?” he asks in a voice far too low and nasal to be natural.
Martin shakes his head, of course, as always.  Jon shakes his own head in exasperation.
Stubborn.
After a few moments, Martin’s fit finally ceases, leaving him braced against his knees and gasping for breath.  Knowing now that the worst is over, Jon takes the opportunity to extract himself a bit from Martin’s side, reaching for the tissue box at the far end of the coffee table.  He glares at it in his hands for a moment, offended by its necessitated presence in their home, before handing one to Martin and taking one for himself.
Trying to clear his head feels like trying to force the ocean through a straw.  His head immediately starts throbbing, ears popping uncomfortably as he does his best to ease some of the pressure.  It’s to no avail, however.  He ends up breaking off into coughs, harsh and barking and painful.
“God, Jon.  You sound a lot worse.”
Martin’s hand is on his back now, rubbing back and forth with such a gentle motion that Jon finds himself swaying along.  The tide is pulling him down, back to sleep, back to rest—
“I’m so sorry I woke you,” Martin whispers.
Jon’s eyes snap back open, and he turns his face toward Martin in confusion.
“Wh…what?”
Martin does not reply, instead removing his hand from Jon’s back and turning to stare out the window.
Something about this does not feel right to Jon.
“Hey.”
He places a hand on Martin’s knee, squeezing gently.
“Hey, look at me.  Why are you apologizing?”
For a moment, Martin does not move, does not speak—locked in a staring contest with the falling leaves outside, until—
“Ah, fuck.”
Martin curses himself as he scrubs furiously at eyes, where tears have begun to spill over his cheeks.
Concern floods through Jon’s chest.
“Oh no, Martin, here—”
He reaches back again for the tissue box, holding it out for Martin to take some.  Muttering a wet “thanks,” he swipes at his eyes briefly, sniffling before he forces out a brief laugh.
“Sorry, god, it’s nothing.  I think I might have spiked another little fever.  You know how I get.”
He laughs again, and the hollowness of it darkens the room.
Jon can almost see him fading away, back into the fog.
Not anymore, Martin.
He begins stroking a hand up and down Martin’s forearm, worrying at his bottom lip for a moment as he considers his words.
“Martin, I—I think we need to talk about this.”
“No no, it’s fine Jon, really I—”
“It’s not fine.  You’re…upset, and I—I want to talk about why.  I think we need to talk about it.”
At this, Martin lowers his head, the shame and embarrassment rolling off him so profoundly that Jon requires no powers of the Eye to sense it.
I need to tell him what I know.
“Look I…I need to tell you something.  It’s important, and before I start I just want you to know that I’m sorry, and that it was unintentional,” Jon says, words spilling out of him like ink over parchment.
Martin lifts his head, brows furrowing as he stares at Jon quizzically.
Jon sighs, running a hand through his hair before continuing.
“I…walked through your dreams, the other night.  I didn’t mean to, I swear I tried to leave but—”
“Jon?” he says, ever so gently.
A gentleness I could never deserve.
“Yes?”
“It’s alright, love.  What did you see?”
Honest.  You’ve got to be honest.
He sniffs and clears his throat, trying to force his congested voice into something resembling normality.
“I saw lots of things.  You were a child in some of them.  I saw your mum and dad…how cruelly they treated you.”
Jon stops for moment, hearing Martin’s sharp inhale.  Tentatively, he reaches out for his hand—which Martin takes at once, clutching it like a lifeline.
“I watched you cut your hair for the first time.  How it made you feel.  And…I saw you try to bind your chest with bandages, and end up in the hospital.  Alone.”
He pauses again, breaking off to cough painfully into his elbow, and uses the time to choose his next words carefully.
“I—I know your parents always wanted you to be silent, to fade in the background.  A-and I know that how I treated you at the Institute…”
He trails off, swallowing a lump forming in his throat.
“I know that hurt you.  A lot.  Um.”
Martin squeezes his hand, and Jon can’t help but smile.
“I just—I just need you to know that I never want you to do that.  To fade away.  I-I want to hear you, to listen to you—always, do you understand?  I want to know when you’re happy, when you’re hurting—I want to be here for all of it, Martin.  I want all of you.”
Though his voice wilts and breaks and fades into nothing but a whisper by the end, Martin looks back at him now like he’s the most beautiful thing in the world.  He tips Jon’s forward gently, pulling him into a tender embrace, Jon’s head pressed against his chest.
“Even when I cough so loud, I can’t help but wake up my ailing partner?”
Partner.
Jon smiles against him, giggling for a moment before stretching his neck up to kiss his jaw.
“Yes, Martin, even then.”
Martin plants a kiss on the top of Jon’s head in return, and they settle back in for a second round of their nap.
It’s quiet, until it’s not—and even then, it’s all alright.

where i was to be

When Jordan woke up, he was astonished to find that he wasn’t drenched in sweat. He didn’t feel hot or feverish or weak or nauseous or achy. He felt like himself again. He wasn’t quite sure where he was but at least whatever sickness he’d been dealing with the last two weeks had finally subsided. He was laying in a bed in a brightly lit room with a high vaulted ceiling. It could have been overwhelming on his eyes, made of quartz and polished carved endstone, but whoever had decorated had used tasteful accents of purpur and obsidian and oak wood to mellow it out. He managed to sit himself up in the bed and looked around. He must have been in some sort of infirmary, curtains cordoneding his section off from others. Next to the bed was a side table that had a pitcher of water, a glass and his glasses. He was pouring himself a glass of water when one of the curtains parted and Commander Redd entered.
“Good to see that you’re awake Captain.” He greeted with a nod.
“Don’t suppose you could tell me where I am or what happened?” Jordan asked.
When they’d first arrived in Theadel, Jordan had been secretly excited to finally be in a world where Ianite was the dominant God. He’d spent so long in the minority, worshipping a God that either wasn’t taken seriously or was forgotten all together. He’d also been immensely fascinated to meet another version of himself. They’d heard all about their Ruxomar equivalents but aside from Mot and Farmer Steve he supposed, had not met any of them. The Commander was intimidating, every inch the Champion of Ianite, from the way he held himself to the way he dressed. In a way it made Jordan feel inadequate. But they’d seen the way the townsfolk reacted to the Commander’s presence as he showed them around the town. How they’d cowered and averted their eyes in a way that was just a bit darker than respect. Their suspicions only grew as the topic of Mianite and Dianite came up. The Commander’s eyes had sharpened behind his glasses, his neutral expression suddenly looking just a bit forced.
“Pray to them if you want, not that it will do you much good now that they’ve disappeared. Just don’t do it around me or out in the open.”
Tom and Tucker had been immediately untrusting and had said as much the moment the group was left alone. Jordan had wanted to give his alternate the benefit of the doubt but even he had to agree that it was suspicious. Tom had been the one to find out about the Rebellion and how to go about joining. Jordan didn’t want to believe that the Ianite of this universe was evil, she was supposed to be the balanced one, the one who didn’t change sides. But still he went with the others into the Nether with the hopes that they would find a way to help Ianite.
The moment he’d stepped into the portal something had felt off. Dimensional travel always felt strange but this time, it had almost hurt, like he was pushing past something he should not have been. He always felt the heat of the Nether, all of them but Tom did, but for some reason here it was just so much hotter. His condition only worsened with each passing day and the days that he spent locked up by the rebels who thought he was the Commander certainly didn’t help his health or their thoughts that the Commander was someone to be trusted. Jordan had begun to wonder if this feeling that his God was the villain was why Tucker had mostly stayed quiet about Mianite in Ruxomar and why Tom had never chosen to live too close to the rest of them in their first world. It was a feeling of being an outsider, like no one trusted you because of what your God was doing. Eventually the others convinced the rebels to let him out of their prison but it still didn’t change that his health continued to worsen. He coughed blood more often than not, was always lightheaded from dehydration, his vision blurred constantly and he just ached endlessly. But it was the feeling of being unwelcome that drove him to keep his sickness a secret.
He had been doing well enough at hiding it until they’d been attacked by dozens of enderman who in this world were apparently Ianite’s soldiers. They ran but he couldn’t keep up, body too weak to obey. He tripped and the world faded, his last sight was Tucker and Tom screaming his name.
“We’re in the infirmary in Ianite’s palace in the End. We brought you here to heal you. I thought I warned you not to enter the Nether?” He spoke in a way that could have been teasing if not for the undercurrent of apathy in his voice.
“What does the Nether have to do with me getting sick?”
“Dianite cast a spell upon the entire Nether years ago. It prevents followers from Ianite from gaining safe passage through his realm. I can’t even enter. You must have been able to push the limits since you are not of this world.”
“So the others…?”
“Should be fine.” Jordan allowed himself a sigh of relief. He didn’t think any of his friends had been experiencing the same symptoms he had but the confirmation was reassuring.
“But why would Dianite do that?” He asked.
Surprisingly enough, it was Ianite who answered. “I’m not sure what possessed my brother to banish so many from his realm, but he did nonetheless.” Jonah bowed immediately when she came through the curtains, something Jordan felt a bit strange about doing himself. While he’d always been respectful to Ianite, she’d never once asked him to bow or expected him to.
Despite knowing what Otm and the others in the Nether had said about her, Jordan couldn’t help the feeling of relief at seeing Ianite. She didn’t seem to be any different than the other Ianites he’d known. She still wore a purple gown, flowing and intricate. Her hair was still deep violet and was done up in some complicated looking braided style accented with gold pins. Even her delicate tiara was still in place. The only thing that was slightly strange were the strategically placed pieces of golden armor, a chestpiece, shoulder pauldrons, and arm guards replaced all her normal jewelry. But yet, even with these changes, her soft smile was enough to push away any concerns at the moment. This was Ianite after all. He trusted her.
“How are you feeling Captain?” She asked, coming to the side of the bed and gently touching his forehead.
“Much better Milady, and please, call me Jordan.” He could feel the touch of her magic, the familiar shimmering tingle reassuring and comforting.
“That’s good to hear. You had me quite worried. Your reaction to Dianite’s spell was near fatal.” Her hand moved from his forehead to gently cup his cheek. “I was afraid I might lose you.” He blinked, unsure how to reply. “I’ve been waiting for the chance to speak with you myself. Ever since I felt your arrival in this world I wanted to reach out to you. You’ve served my other selves so loyally over your travels, it’s time that one of us showed you the appreciation you deserve.”
How did she know? He’d never told anyone that he felt unappreciated. Sure Ianite had given him occasional gifts and praises over the years but so much of his effort had been unacknowledged. The Ianite of Ruxomar had been so focused on trying to make him a replacement for her husband while the Ianite in the first world had simply been absent and untouchable, only showing herself on rare instances. Now, he found himself almost leaning into her touch, surprised at just how starved for her gratitude he was.
“This is where you belong, Jordan. At my side. In this life and all others.” She pulled back, smiling at him. “It may be unorthodox, but no one ever said I couldn’t have two Champions at my side. Though I suppose in a way you are both the same man hmm? What do you say? Will you stay?”
He looked up at her, glancing quickly at the Commander before flicking his eyes back to hers. He should say no. He should ask to leave and see what he could accomplish on his own in the Overworld but if something really was wrong with Ianite, wouldn’t he be in a better place to help her right here? The more selfish part of him wanted to stay for the reasons she’d offered, to be appreciated and respected past a follower or replacement. The Commander had said nothing and gave no hint to what he may be thinking but something in Jordan almost thought that the other man wanted him to stay. There was something more that Jordan didn’t know about.
“I wouldn’t want to step on anyone’s toes.” He eventually settled on, letting his eyes fall back to the Commander. Ianite followed his gaze and hummed in understanding.
“Jonah, am I in anyway offending you by asking Jordan to stay and serve at my side as you do?” She asked, putting her hand on his shoulder.
“No My Lady.” He replied instantly. “I am interested in knowing him as well.”
She smiled, sharp and dazzling then looked back to Jordan expectantly.
“Then I guess it looks like I’m staying.”

Jersey on my mind (part 28)
Disclaimer! Mentions of abuse will occur in this part, a flashback from Mila’s past.
With accustomed fingers, Mila tightens the laces in the well-used, dirty running shoes. First the right one, then the left one. Like a ritual, she simultaneously extends first the right side of her neck, then the left. Her eyes flicker between a cluster of bruises on her knee and the man standing with his back against her, looking out of the window of the old, worn dressing room. The warm coat is free from dust grains and hairs. The dark hair is perfectly combed over his scalp and the scarf that protrudes behind the coat collar is dark navy blue. A poster boy for the state, or rather a man, but also her father, state official Sergey Volkov Yuroshenko. With his tall body and proud attitude, he could just as easily have been the president of Russia himself.
“What a day.” Papa exclaims. “Beautiful. Just perfect.”
Had it not been her father standing there, Mila would have thought that the man at the window was blind. Outside the window it’s completely gray and gloomy. As far from a hot, sunny summer day it could possibly be.
Probably an old Soviet-era habit. All fathers who mentally remain in the Soviet universe  probably think the same thing; the grayer the better. If it’s not summer and hot as hell and they happen to be parked at the Dacha, drinking vodka. The greater the contrasts the better.
The fog was dense over the landscape while the car drove over almost deserted roads. Mama and Papa in the front seat and Mila in the back seat, half lying, sleeping. She has been driven out of town, to a large sports facility with an athletics track, and a 3.7 mile forest track for cross-country running. Three weeks earlier it was announced on the school’s bulletin board that Mila had been selected to compete in the Moscow district’s cross-country race. Baffled, she stood there feeling anything but happy, while her two friends Vera and Nataliya happily bounced up and down next to her by the big board, overjoyed to be picked to participate in the same competition, but the one for girls.
“We’ll come and watch, of course!” Vera comforted Mila, as the three girls went to the next lesson.
“Absolutely!” Nataliya agreed.
Mila glances at the window, past Papa and wonders if her two squires are out there somewhere, shivering and waiting for the race to start.
“I have a feeling that you’ll win. I know you will.”
Mila yawns, doing her best to hide it. To avoid questions and admonitions to go to bed earlier, or to hear that she is a sleepyhead. Is it not enough to go to bed at eight the day before a competition, when all your friends are allowed to be awake until ten?
“Mhm.”
“You'll make a lasting impression.”
“Maybe because it’s a race for boys.” Mila sighs, lets down her legs and rests her dirty running shoes on the floor, finally saying something from her heart. “Haven’t you noticed we’re all alone in here, Papa? I am the only girl here.” She holds out her arms, as to point out the obvious. “I wanted to be in a race for girls, with other girls. This is-”
Papa fends off Mila’s proclamation, waving it away with his hand.
“Girls are weak.”
“I am a girl.”
“Don’t remind me.”
Mila’s gaze drops. The statement is short, but says it all. No, she shouldn’t remind him. It only makes him upset.
“This is a great day, for our family.” The voice is hopeful, or rather, full of anticipation. It makes Mila feel a bit unwell, sick. “The whole Moscow district. Many important people are sitting out there watching. A great day, indeed. Lucky us, being here early, so we got seats in the stands. Kirilov and his wife weren't that lucky.” He chuckles. “He works at the office, on the floor below.” The elucidation that the colleague’s tiny, cubic workspace is below his own, real office, with solid walls, seems to cheer him up a bit. “What was the son’s name? Well, Doesn’t matter.” He continues. “They are losers, all of them.” Papa glances at her. “They don’t have what it takes. No. This requires stamina. Discipline.”
He proudly straightens his back while looking out the window, at the stadium and the forest. Mila feels how the knot in her stomach grows to the size of a cabbage head; knows what’s expected of her. She always knows. Only first place is good enough, especially now, at the district championship. As if he could read her mind, Papa turns to her, with his arms clasped behind his back like an officer inspecting his cadets. The only difference is that it’s not a poor cadet he stares down, but his fourteen-year-old daughter, who will run 3.7 miles, and is expected to do it faster and better than teenagers who are both one and two years older than her. Just because Papa forced her to be better, faster, than her peers, than anyone else.
“Second best is not enough.” he preaches and walks up to her. “Only the weak are satisfied. You, Milaya, are not weak. You will win. A second place would be trivial.”
“Like being a damn clerk.” Mila mutters.
It takes a millisecond for her to regret saying it out loud, or barely audible, but Papa has the hearing of a fox. The dark eyes turn almost black and the big hand firmly sweeps through the air before Mila has time to react and duck. It hits the spot where it was intended and Mila falls off the bench and lands on the cold tile floor. With a throbbing head, she feels the large hands close around her neck and prevent air from entering or leaving her trachea as Papa squats over her.
“Don’t talk to me that way, devochka.” he hisses between clenched teeth, while Mila struggles to make him ease the grip around her neck. She clings to the steady, strong wrists and kicks with her legs, but there’s no use. He’s strong and frankly, pissed off. The facade has crackled, as it sometimes does, and anger is directed at her, as always. Maybe because it is always Mila who is the root of the anger, the sadness, the disappointment. One thing is certain, she will not be able to complete the race if he does not let go, soon. “Was that supposed to be funny? Ungrateful-” he breathes through his nose, whereupon he forces a faint smile to appear on his lips, which is anything but happy. He releases the grip and rises. “Do not disappoint me, Milaya. Do.. not..-”
And he leaves the sterile, chill dressing room. The door slams shut and Mila is left alone on the floor. Her heart is racing in her chest and stars dance in front of her eyes. No, she can’t faint now. Instead she coughs, grasps for air. Her chest feels like she’s just been close to drowning. The pain is aching. Angry tears want to escape her eyes, but Mila passes them back into the tear ducts. It could have been worse, she thinks. It could have been much worse. Mila repeats the mantra over and over inside her head as she coughs, and sits up. Bite the bullet, Mila.
She’s gonna show him. She’s going to show them all. Papa should at least have a reason to-
On trembling knees Mila rises, leaning against the bench and stumbles over to the dirty mirror on the wall. She looks past the scribbled “Galina loves Pavel” in red marker pencil and meets her own face staring back at her. A pale face with big blue eyes. The long hair is set in a ponytail and the fringe is a bit tangled, due to the fact that the hairdresser sneezed just as she made the cut, one week earlier. The head is set on a long neck, attached to a pair of sharp shoulders. On the side of Mila’s pale face the bruise is already starting to take shape and the lower lip is cracked at the side. Her neck is completely red.
“Zdorovo...” Mila sighs, touches the cracked lip slightly, to get the blood away. “Prosto zdorovo. Just great.”
Bozhe moy, he really did a winner on that hit. At least he didn’t aim for her legs. Smart move, Mila thinks as she adjusts her jaw a little, making the lip sting slightly. Then she wouldn’t have been able to run.
Swearing, Mila staggers into the small toilet, a sad look; she turns on the tap, which of course only has cold water to offer her, splashes it on her face and shivers throughout the body. She blinks the water out of her eyes and looks out the open door, through the window in the other room, out at the gray weather. Spring sure takes its time this year. It’s freezing outside. Mila looks down at her poor, scrawny, bare legs in the red shorts. At least it’s not the river Volga in the middle of the winter. Positive thoughts.
At the same time, the angry signal bounces over the area, finds its way into the changing room and announces that the race is about to start within ten minutes. Papa has given his ‘pep talk’ and has probably sat down next to Mama at this point in the stands, probably drinking Mama’s homemade hot Sbiten and eating sandwiches. Well, now it’s Mila’s time to do her part. It’s showtime.
She leaves the shabby dressing room and steers her steps towards the edge of the forest, prepared to win a marathon. She has to. Taglist:  @lonewolf471

Heal You (Aizawa x Reader)
Heal You (Aizawa x Reader)
Tumblr media
A/N: my first anime insert and im freaking out I hope it’s not trash omg / takes place after nomu s1 -
“Oh, you’re up. Thank goodness, I was kind of getting a little worried.”
“Where the hell am I?” Aizawa asked trying his best to sit up in bed, only to notice that he was so weak, and moving seemed to be the most challenging thing.
He felt the bed dip slightly. “You’re in the hospital. UA got attacked, and you ended up here. I’m your nurse, (Y/n).” She told him. “You’ve been out for about a day.”
Instantly he remembered what had happened. The villains at the school, the man who seemed to disintegrate his skin, the giant monster who smashed his face into the ground. “How are my students?”
“They all left without injury last I heard. The only one that I heard that got hurt,  was some kid who broke his bones.” She told him as she stood up from the bed.
“Yeah that sounds like my class.” He sighed. “Why can’t I open my eyes?”
“So you had surgery to help reconstruct some of the bones around your eye. I’m actually here to remove the bandage and make sure that you can still see.” She told him. “I’m going to do that now, if it’s alright with you.”
He didn’t say anything, and (Y/n) took that as a sign to move forward. “Do you have a quirk?”
She gently grabbed the bandages that were covering his mouth, deciding that was an easy place to start peeling back the layers. “A really small healing quirk. I can pass on my energy to another person to help heal them. Works really well working here, but I was never trained and if I use too much of it, I pass out.”
“You didn’t go to school for it?” He asked as she worked on freeing his nose.
“I went to medical school instead. Having a healing quirk is nice, but sometimes you need medicine too.” She paused, the last larger bandage covering his eyes was the only one left. “I’m going to get the one over your eyes, and I want you to keep them closed, okay?”
He grunted. “Whatever you say.”
(Y/n) slowly removed the bandage, looking over the large scar that was underneath his eye. “Does this hurt?” She asked him, using her quirk to try and lessen the scar the best she could.
“Should it?” He asked her while she used her other hand to push some of his hair away from his face.
“I get mixed reactions sometimes. Some people tell me it hurts, others tell me it’s nothing.” All his hair was away from his face, it was time for the true test. “Now, I want you to open your eyes.”
He slowly opened his eyes, his vision blurry at first, but after a few blinks he could clearly see the woman in front of him. He resisted the urge to blush, as she was so close to him with her hand still on his face.
“There you are.” She smiled, removing her hand from his face as she continued to push the hair away from his face. “You look so much better than when you first came in. Can you see okay?”
“Well, I’m looking at the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen, so I don’t think I’m blind.” He told her with a slight smirk.
(Y/n) blushed brightly, instantly stepping away from the bed, and he could tell it was because he flustered her (as it was pretty obvious). “I-I’ll go get some new bandages.”
Once she stepped out of the room, it was a doctor who walked in. “Good to see you’re awake Mr.Aizawa.” He smiled, pulling up a chair to sit next to the man. “You got really lucky, if (Y/n) wasn’t working in trauma, you might not be here today.”
“What do you mean?” Aizawa asked, trying his best to be able to sit up, finally finding the strength to do so.
“When you came in and we saw how badly injured you were, (Y/n) rushed over to you and used her quirk on you before you had surgery. Poor girl used it on you for almost four hours straight before we told her to stop. She passed out right when we took you for surgery.”
He was perplexed to say the least. “Did she say why?”
“She’s still pretty new to the hospital, and I’ll be honest, you’ve been the first real trauma patient we’ve had in a long time. Either way, she saved your life.” The doctor said as he stood up and moved the chair back. “For the next week, we want you to continue using bandages around your face to prevent infection. We’re also guessing your quirk should still work, but not as effective as it was. You really did get lucky.” He told him as he slipped out the door.
The room was silent for the next few minutes before the door opened and (Y/n) walked in holding a tray of bandages and creams, placing them on the bedside table as she sat down next to him to get to work, putting them back on his face.
“Why did you do it?” He asked as he closed his eyes, feeling her start to gently push away the hair that seemed to always stay in front of his face.
“Do what?” She asked, applying a thin layer of cream to the wound under his eyes before she placed the first bandage.
“Use your quirk on me for four hours straight. Use it for that long even if you knew it would drain you of all your energy.” He sighed as she moved her way down his face, starting to apply the bandages to his nose.
She paused, reaching down and holding his hand. “I saw you come in, and you looked like you were going to die. I was so afraid of seeing my favorite hero die, that I needed to do anything and everything I could to stop that.”
Now he was more confused than ever. “I’m your favorite hero?” Most people could pass him on the street and never even know he was, and he never did believe that he was anyones favorite hero.
“I was so worried that we were going to lose you. That’s why I did it, and yes, it’s very embarrassing. I’m going to go throw myself off the roof now if you don’t mind.” She told him, standing up from the bed.
He quickly grabbed her wrist, pulling her back down to sit on the bed. “Don’t be embarrassed. It’s the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me.” He sighed, not being the best with words to even articulate any sort of feelings. “I would be honored to help you learn your quirk.”
“Really?” (Y/n) squeaked, tears forming in her eyes as he gripped his hand tighter. “I would hug you right now, but I don’t want to hurt you.”
“Then why don’t you kiss me instead?” He smirked as she started to remove the bandages that she had placed over his eyes and nose.
She wiped her eyes. “I can’t tell if you’re joking or not.”
He chuckled under his breath. “It wouldn’t be something I would joke about.” He said as she leaned down, gently pressing her lips to his so carefully as to not break him. He pulled away slowly, a smile playing at his lips. “When I’m all better, I would really like to take you out sometime.”
“I would really enjoy that.”

Bonus: “Shota, I brought you flowers because that’s what best friends do.” All Might smiled as he seemed to just kick down the door, instantly coughing as he saw his friend making out with the nurse. “It seems I’ve interrupted..I-I hope to see you at school soon..”
