Happy eighth anniversary to my favorite couple and the best LGBT couple of all time, Korra and Asami 鉂わ笍
Every year this account is full of Korrasami and even then it will never be enough, but it's okay because that's why I'm here, I've talked many times about why I love these girls and I'll never get tired of saying it, they are a great inspiration, you want to be them and be with someone like them simply because they are tough, smart, kind and sweet, plus obviously attractive 馃槒
This is how I picture them, going on a date, Korra being sweet and Asami being, well, a little sassy, just how we like it 馃槏

LGBTQ+ Disabled Characters Showdown Round 1, Wave 2, Poll 12
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A character being totally canon LGBTQ+ and disabled was not required to be in this competition. Please check qualifications and propaganda before asking why a character is included.
Check out the other polls in this wave and prior here.
Korra-Avatar: The Legend of Korra
Qualifications:
Korra is not only bisexual, having dated both Asami Sato and Mako, but was and still is disabled by the end of the series. She doesn't magically get better from being poisoned, she's forced to relearn a lot of things: how to walk, how to do things for herself, and even how to fight properly. Her physical disabilities are mixed with extensive trauma and PTSD that prevents her from doing her job as the Avatar throughout Book 4: Balance.
Canonically bisexual, has PTSD, and spent a while partially paralyzed and using a wheelchair.
Bisexual badass who ended up going through about 5038309340 traumatizing events, one of which involved mercury poisoning that had her unable to walk for about a year and left her with lasting PTSD and depression (though again the depression is a little less clear wheras the PTSD was obviously intended to be read as such). There was also her shadow self, but it's unclear whether that was a form of psychosis or a literal spirit. In short, she's bi and has PTSD if you want to stick with the more long term, obviously canon bits.
Propaganda:
She's the Avatar, you gotta deal with it! But, seriously, Avatar Korra was the first onscreen LBGT+ character in the Avatar franchise alongside her girlfriend Asami Sato. While limited in what could be shown onscreen, the two were explictly portrayed as a couple in the 2016 Dark Horse comic "Legend of Korra: Turf Wars". Likewise, her disability never quite went away. She still struggled with trauma, PTSD, and learning how to do things for herself again for two to three years in the time between books 3 and 4 that were shown off in flashbacks during her solo episodes.
She's canonically bi and has PTSD, and disability was an incredibly important theme for her in her show's final season.
i dunno I think i covered all my bases in the qualifying bit but also its 3am and i dont feel like typing more
Anything Else?:
The creators of Korra, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, fought long and hard for their show, including taking a massive budget slash circa book 4 to avoid firing half their staff. Likewise, they took to Tumblr and other social media in 2014 to state firmly that Korra and Asami were both bisexual and in love. Here's a link: https://bryankonietzko.tumblr.com/post/105916338157/korrasami-is-canon-you-can-celebrate-it-embrace
The qualifications and propaganda paragraphs correspond, @foulfirerebel is the first submitter, they also did the anything else section.
Will Kenrith-Magic: The Gathering
Qualifications:
Canon bisexual and lost a limb
Propaganda:
In his debut novel, Will and his twin sister Rowan discuss a boy he had a crush on. During the fight for Arcavios, he lost the lower half of his right leg. He summoned a prosthetic using his ice magic, but he has to consciously keep it formed.

Voltron: Legendary Defender did it better than Legend of Korra
Shiro is LGBT. The war veteran with PTSD and is amputee who competently leads the team as the head of Voltron and is the one that everyone looks up to as a beacon of light and example of confidence, compassion, drive, and humanity just so happens to be LGBT. It's just a part of him; its not in your face; it's not a sound bite; there鈥檚 no contrived mechanics to it. Its natural. This is good writing.
Tumblr media
When Legend of Korra tried to do this with Korra - who I think is bisexual - it was hamfisted at the end and even then it took a comic after the fact to really solidify it. Granted, part of the reason was because of the network they were on (even though said network was screwing them over WAAAYYY before that) but, that鈥檚 only a piece of the blame. The creators have said that they planned for this reveal since the beginning and based on that merit, they failed from my perspective. It simply felt forced and inorganic. Tacked on if you will. Not good writing.
Tumblr media
Shiro is my favorite of the Paladins (with Lance a close second); and now my favorite Paladin just happens to be LGBT. Granted, I鈥檓 still gunning for Shiro x Allura (Shallura) but, it鈥檚 so cool to see a character of this caliber be LGBT. It's even sweeter to see that same team that failed with Korra do it right with Shiro.聽

First Time using the treadmill to jog instead of warmup. I managed 12 min, 5mph for a mile which isn't the best if you go by what schools and fitness people go for but it's a start. I think I'll do that once a week with the HIIT elliptical training and krav maga for my cardio. See if that helps influence any weight loss

Ok, I'm gonna pop off for a bit because this has been driving me nuts for like a decade now - I'm real tired of seeing people (who either don't understand how show production works or are willingly choosing to ignore it) going after showrunner's throats when who they're really pissy with are the corporations that host those shows.
Stuff like plot, internal continuity, and character development are writing issues that can be critiqued in a vacuum, stuff like pacing, representation, and runtime are not.
If you are mad that a show was too short, that it's pacing was shitty or it's representation wasn't good enough, that is an issue with the higher ups in the network, not the writers and showrunners.
You need to redirect your anger at CN, Disney and Nickelodeon, go after them for holding animation back, and leave showrunners the fuck alone.
Do you really think that Infinity Train would end on an awkward fourth book, that Korra and Asami would only hold hands, that Legend of Korra would have such a bizarre second season, that Steven Universe would reduce it's final arc to five fucking episodes, that Gravity Falls would hide it's LBGT characters in the background, that The Owl House would end after three seasons, that so many shows would wait until their last episode to confirm their character's sexualities, if they had the choice to do something else???
Take your torches and pitchforks to capitalism's doors, not creators'.

on the one hand, it's kind of overwhelming how far cartoons have progressed since korra and asami holding hands in the legend of korra finale or marceline and princess bubblegum implying they were a couple but never saying it was as explicit as they could get about including any gay content
on the other hand, the last episode of korra aired in 2014, and the what was missing episode of adventure time aired in 2011. the fact that creators have had to fight studios this hard to get any lbgt+ content at all so recently is absolutely despicable, and studios should do better
