PoliZ’s Birthday Self-Recs: WinterIron
Indulging myself in the week leading up to my birthday by sharing some of my favorite fics I’ve written, grouped primarily  by pairing/relationship.
I’m starting with WinterIron - aka  Bucky Barnes and Tony Stark.  While not my first slash pairing, it’s my most-written with   77 Bucky /Tony works  and  9 Bucky & Tony works     Yes, it’s contradicted by MCU canon, but so what?  I see two science nerds  with involuntary body modification and gaslighting/brainwashing in common. 😁 Plenty for me to work with both canon-divergent and full on AUs, as well as a mix of both.
Here  - in reverse chronological order  by pub date - are my half-dozen favorite WinterIron fics I’ve written, at least as of this moment.   If you go read them, I’d love to hear what you think, either here or as a comment on the fic!  (and a No Prize to anyone who identifies the songs that 4 of these titles came from!)
A Quiet Spree
(Mature/explicit, canon-divergent, 14,272 words) -- Stark overextends himself in the workshop after a tough mission.   Barnes, venturing out from under Cap's wing, visits the workshop with the intent of having Stark look at his arm.   Heavy flirting and mutual pining ensues.
So Open Up, I'm Climbin' In
(Mature/explicit, College AU,  17,504 words)  based on prompt: “ ‘we’re on a roadtrip with some friends and we have to share a hotel room and there’s only one bed and a whole lot of sexual tension’ AU Would be nice if it was smutty. Steve and Sam totally set them up. Later Bucky and Tony realise they are both fools since they've been in love with each other since the beginning of their acquaintance. “  Expect  mild angst,  plenty of pining, flirting and snark and a 'bot cameo.
CTRL+Z
(Teen, No Powers AU, 3,754 words) - Tony Stark is finally getting rid of the last reminder of a painful relationship.  James, the tattoo removal technician is both incredibly handsome and a fellow pop culture fan.  Tony finds himself wanting to spend more time with James than the brief sessions they have together.
Wait and See  (if it’s the best you ever had)
(Mature, No Powers AU, 10,322 words) -- To celebrate him finding a full time job after a rough patch,  Bucky Barnes' friends -- Steve and Sam -- take him to a burlesque show.   Antonio, (who may or may not be a drag king), catches Bucky's eye, and vice versa.  Bucky also strikes up a friendship with Ton-E,  a possibly-genderfluid barista working at the  24-hr coffee shop in the lobby of Stark Industries, where Bucky now works.   Will he be able to choose between one or the other?
Upping the Ante
(Explicit, Fantasy/Medieval AU, 6,583 words) -- Sir Anthony of Stark, returning to the capital of the kingdom, comes across a traveling medicine man and fortuneteller who is keeping a man in chains.   As it is the duty of a knight to right wrongs,  Anthony investigates and ends up with more than he bargained for.
And Your Heart Beats in My Blood
(Teen,  canon-adjacent soulmate AU,  12,296 words) -- Tony Stark's soulmate died when they were both young;  or so he thought.   When a ghostly heartbeat continues to haunt him,  Tony's AI proposes an unlikely hypothesis.

All Our Lives - Feysand Writing Circle
Tumblr media
Hello,
I'm Shallyne and a few days ago I posted that I'd like to create a Feysand Writing Circle, and I'd like to a explain a few things.
How did this idea form?
A few months ago, I posted a little poem for an incoming fic called "All Our Lives" but maybe some of you realized I didn't continue this idea. The reason wasn't that I disliked the idea then but I had so many ideas and the overall idea has so much potential and my brain created half a fic and then jumped to the next idea. A few weeks ago I started playing with the idea to start a writing circle and when I stumbled upon All Our Lives again, I thought this was an amazing opportunity.
What is the original idea of All Our Lives?
The original idea was to create a fanfiction which chapters were pretty much just oneshots. Every chapter is Feysand in a different universe. The idea was that all the oneshots are Feyre and Rhysand in a different lifetime, their souls always finding back to each other.
How can I participate in this Writing Circle?
You got an idea and want your story to be part of the All Our Lives writing circle? That's amazing, I'm so glad! It's not hard, you just click on the title of this post or -> here <- and you will be transferred to the AO3 Feysand Writing Circle collection. There you can add your fic to the collection.
But you don't have an AO3 account or want to stay anonym? This is not a problem at all! You can send me your fic in my ask box or send me a message here on Tumblr, where I will give you my email-address to send me your fic. I will then post it on my account but of course I will mention you, or say that it was send by an anon, to post.
What are the rules?
The rules are simple!
Every fanfiction in this Writing Circle will be a oneshot
There is no time limit
The word count is up to you
Every oneshot will play in a different universe
Stay respectful to other participants! You don't have to like every idea but that doesn't mean you need to tell them.
What do you mean with "universe"?
When I say different universe I mean that the fics are supposed to play outside of the canon acotar universe. You are free to chose from almost any universe, as long as it's not harmful to any group of people. For example: Book Universes (Throne of glass, Howls Moving Castle, Classics, Shatter Me, The Cruel Prince, etc.,), Show and Movie Universes (MCU, Gilmore Girls, Peaky Blinders, Burlesque, 50 first dates, Back to the Future, Wizard of Oz, etc.,), different time periods (Medieval, the Renaissance, Victorian, ancient Greece) or decades (20's, 50''s, 60's, 80's, 90's 00's), or even universes that you don't have a name for but so not play in the canon acotar universe (Modern AU, Regency AU, Angels, Demons, Mermaids, etc.,)
What is not allowed?
Canon acotar Universe
Multichapters
Another main couple (see something else?)
Something else?
Yes! So, you can include every other character, from the acotar or SJM universe, and any other ship but the main couple will always be Feysand. The whole story is about them and finding each other in all their lives, so writing around another couple would be pointless for this Writing Circle.
When will the Writing Circle begin?
Technically, you can already post whenever your ready. I would not take your fic down if you want to do that, it's allowed but if you want a direct date, I'd like June 1st as a starting date
I can't tell you when I will be able to contribute but I will be so excited to see your fics, my friends! Everyone is welcome and I hope you will participate!
Your question wasn't answered yet?
Then please don't shy away from sending me an ask or send me a message so we can find an answer
You can always find this post linked on my pinned post

The Burlesque Lounge: Part 11
Part 1 | Part 10 | Part 11 (here) | Part 12 |
Harley
Bethany and Marco are officially married, and I'm arguing with my boyfriend. At their wedding. He was supposed to be here.
"Wait, what do you mean you are still in L.A.? Why?"
"I didn't want to fly all the way out there for a weekend."
"So you just decided not to come?"
"This is my future, babe—"
"Why does every conversation we have end up being about you and your future?"
"I am twenty five, Harley, it's time we start thinking about our futures—"
"You know what, you're right. We should definitely start thinking about our futures." I look at Peter, sitting at the bar, smiling and talking to people. "And I might just be looking at mine right now." I hang up.
Oh my god.
I just broke up with him.
I've never broken up with him before.
Oh. Oh hell yea. I grab a glass of whatever alcoholic beverage is being served, and chug it.
~~~
~~~
I approach the bar, again, but this time sit next to Peter.
"Just water, please." He orders.
"Make it two. Make it two." I agree, definitely more than a little tipsy, should try to sober up.
"Looking kind of lonely there, Harls."
"Liberated, maybe. Libated, definitely. But lonely, no. Never lonely." The bartender sits out drinks in front of us. "Cheers." I hold it up to Peter, but he just takes a sip, scoffing at me. "Clink." I take a drink, then look at him, in all of his glory. I lean into him. "How's it going?"
"God. What are we, in junior high?" He laughs, but pushes me off.
"Ossining, are you still mad at me? You know, because if you are..." I open my arms. "Bring it on, baby." I wink.
"Are you drunk?" I start to nod but then the DJ plays a song that is vaguely familiar to me.
"Oh, I love this song. Yes!" I look at the DJ. "Oh, you rock. Yeah, baby. You rock." Peter just laughs at me. "Are you still mad at me, Ossining?" He shrugs. "I'm sorry for being a class-A prick."
"You were."
"I was." I concede. "And, as of about... Some time ago, I am officially a single man." He looks at me, shocked.
"You and Nate broke up?"
"That we did. Which explains why I am here alone. So... Why are you here alone?"
"Do I really look alone to you?" I press my nose to his cheek and he laughs.
~~~
~~~
"Careful!" Peter yells as we enter our apartment and I knock over my lamp.
"Wait, wait. Be careful!" I tell him as he tries to set it back up.
"I got it. No. No. Stay." I manage to get it to stay
"Good night." I tell him.
"Yeah. Night."
"Okay." I close the door, and change.
Peter
"Cute jammies." I laugh at Harley, the pj's are hilarious, they've got little snowmen on them.
"My mother got me these, thank you very much." He stumbles over to the door, still clearly drunk, though I did make him drink a lot of water and he is definitely not as drunk as he was. "I forgot to lock the door."
"Got it?" He nods. "Good."
"Good night."
"Good night." I shed my suit jacket as the door opens. "Back again?" This time he is shirtless. Not that I am complaining.
"I need more water. Lessen the hangover."
"Smart." He goes back to the bedroom after getting a bottle of water from the fridge.
"Good night. Again." He closes the door again.
"Night. Again." I loosen the tie I'm wearing.
"Now, I know—I know I forgot something else." I look over and see him, ass-naked. I close my eyes.
"Harley!"
"I remember I locked the door. That's it. Hungry. I'm hungry. Exactly." I am laughing so hard. He is so going to regret this in the morning. "What is so funny?"
"Harley! Well, you're—"
"Well I never—" He mocks his own accent.
"Harley!"
"Want a cookie?" He holds the box of cookies so that it blocks his dick. I laugh harder and just cover my face again. "No? Alright."
"You..." I laugh.
"It's your loss." He backs himself to the door. "You change your mind... You know where they are." He kicks the door closed and I can breathe again.
I wait a moment, trying to calm myself down. Then the door opens. He's not naked, wearing his pajama pants. He puts his hand on my shoulder, and kisses my head.
Okay, I am very aroused now.
No more games.
I stand up from the couch and we stand nose to nose. He slowly bumps my nose with his.
"Please tell me you want this as much as I do?" He whispers.
"Yea. I do."
"I'm still very drunk." I can't help but let a little laugh escape.
"Yea?"
"Yea, but..." He puts his hand on my hip and pulls me against him. "I have wanted it for a long time."
"You've been in a relationship for a long time."
"Not anymore."
"So you said." I take a breath. "I think I'm done talking." His face falls.
"Are you mad at m—" I move the inch and a half and cut him off with my lips. I feel him smile as he pulls me closer to him, and starts backing us into the bedroom.
I pull apart. "I'm not going much farther while you are drunk, Harley."
"But we agree there is going to be more of this?"
I kiss him again.
~~~
~~~
"I mean, I don't really know what happened." Harley says as he traces invisible patterns on my arm. It's been a long night, and he's slightly hungover, but doesn't regret what happened last night. "I had won the Nashville Teen Songwriting Contest. I even still have my little trophy. So I took that as—" He sighs. "I thought I was supposed to do something important with my life. Then I got to New York. And nothing happened. Nothing." I sit up on my arm to look at him better. "I left everything behind. I haven't seen my sister, or my friends in so long, they all never liked Nate. I guess they were right about him." We laugh. "He's not a good dude, and I can't believe I've never seen it before."
"Well you aren't with him anymore."
"No I am not. And now I can work more on music and get it ready for ears."
"Well, you know what? I believe your music is ready." He smirks at me.
"The question is... Are you ready?"
"For what?" I ask. He leans in and kisses me.

A Winter’s Song
Chapter 4/?
Synopsis: Sky has to return to work, pretending she has no idea what's going on. With Bucky watching her from a distance.
Warnings: Sexual tension
Lying wasn't an issue for Sky, she's done it a few times even when she didn't want to. But pretending that she didn't witness a murder at her place of work was going to be a challenge.
"What if someone kills me before I can even set for in my dressing room?" Sky asks Natasha, Bucky had gone ahead to find a way in the club and stay hidden for majority of the day and evening
"Barnes won't let that happen."
"You know he was watching me sleep last night?"
"His methods are unconventional." Natasha turned onto the street leading up to the club
"Yeah but... He's done this before?" Sky feels her stomach twisting in knots, however she wasn't sure if it was in anticipation for Natasha's answer or because they were approaching the place where she witnessed a murder.
"He takes his assignments seriously."
"Of course." Sky nods watching Natasha drive pass the club "You missed the stop."
"Dropping you off in a car that your bosses have never seen before will raise suspicion." She pulled off to the side in front of a closed food market. "Remember act as if everything is normal. If anyone asks you any questions, you know nothing."
"Right." Sky nods again "And Barnes is already inside?"
"He'll have eyes on you, but you won't see him. If anything goes wrong he'll pull you out of there."
Sky felt her brain rattle from how much she was nodding and gave Natasha a thumbs up before getting out the car. Her legs were shaky same as her breathing, she could blame that in the declining weather; New York during autumn was anything but warm. Approaching the club, Sky greeted the two bouncers at the door, doing her best to sound as normal as possible. If it were possible the inside of the club seemed colder than the outside, people moved about normally, carrying in crates of liquor and food. The stage hands were testing out lights, making Lucy groan when they would shut off a light she needed while on the stage.
"Leave the house lights alone!" She shouted up at the tech booth
Sky stared at the stage, visualizing Leona's body dropping repeatedly in her mind, blood covering the curtains and the staining the wood flooring. Her throat got tight again, and her breathing came out in short pants.
"There's my girl." Kyle came up behind Sky and gave her a tight hug, she pulled away from him as quick as possible, not keeping eye contact with him "What's wrong? You look sick."
"Bad dream last night, didn't get enough sleep."
"Damn, what was it about?" Kyle brushed a strand of hair away from Sky's face
"Um... The usual- giant spiders, creepy clowns." Sky faked a shudder
"I know what the issue is, you're stressed. You've been working too hard, trust me I know. You should let me take you out."
"What?"
"To dinner, you know relax, explore the city. Maybe even take a trip to Niagara falls, I hear it's nice this time of year."
Nice enough to push me over the railing and watch me fall to my death? Sky bit her tongue, unknowingly looking around the room for Bucky.
"I don't know, maybe."
"Maybe?" Kyle grinned, taking a hold of Sky's hand "One step closer to yes."
Sky let out a shaky laugh watching him gently grasp her hand. He couldn't be a killer, right? Kyle was too nice, perhaps he just got caught up in whatever his brother and sister where dealing with. He did seem like the odd one out from time to time. Maybe, if given the opportunity to choose a side, he'd pick the good side.
"Have you heard from Leona?" Sky asks
"Leona? Yeah, she said she was sick."
"Sick?"
"Yeah, talked to her myself. Why?"
"She..." a gunshot echoed in Sky's ears, followed by shattering glass "Well I forgot the flowers you gave me. She said she'd bring them by on her way home."
"Did she?" Kyle cocked his head to the side, a slight darkness in his eyes took over "I guess she forgot."
"Yeah, I guess she did."
"Kyle, stop flirting with my dancers." Lucy scowled before pointing to Sky "On stage now, we need as much rehearsal time as possible."
"Coming."
Just before Sky could make it to the stage she caught a glimpse of something shiny in the rafters.
"Hey, let's go we don't have all day." Lucy steered Sky to the front of the lineup. Sky felt a shiver run through her body, not seeing one trace of blood in the stage. She didn't know whether to be happy or more frightened than she already was "We're starting with Daring Dames, cue the music."
Sky had to move through the number with her eyes half closed, if she didn't it kept feeling as if she was dancing on top of Leona's body in a way. From time to time she continued to catch the shiny light above the stage. Lucy eased up on the girls, letting them take a well deserved break. Sky raced to her dressing room the first chance she got, locking the door behind her. Another chill ran through her body when she looked at Leona's side of the room, everything was gone, her stage clothes, make-up, everything was cleared out. Walking over to the crooked vanity mirror, Sky straightened it up, Bucky stood behind her in the corner.
"Jesus Christ!" Sky gasped "Don't do that."
"What were you thinking? Asking about Agent Miller risks bringing more attention to yourself." He scowled
"I had to know if Kyle was involved." Sky turned to face him
"Boyfriend doesn't meet your expectation?"
"He's not my boyfriend."
"So you agree to go on vacation with just anyone?" Bucky seethed, Sky raised an eyebrow and folded her arms across her chest
"Why do you care?"
"You’re my responsibility, if you get yourself killed because you want to get into your boss's pants-"
"I don't want to get into Kyle's pants. He wants to get into mine." Sky spoke a bit more proudly than she expected "But I don't sleep around, don't let my job description confuse you Barnes. It takes a lot more than money, a charming smile, or hypnotizing blue eyes to get me into bed."
Bucky paused for a moment, holding back a shit eating grin. He liked seeing Sky all wound up, not taking any shit from people, in fact seeing her talk back to Fury last night was a turn on for him, and having her challenge him now made him want to take her on every surface in the room.
"Brown."
"Excuse me?"
"Kyle's eyes are brown, not blue." Bucky couldn't hide his amusement any longer "Hypnotizing blue eyes?"
"You're missing my point."
"No I got it, step my game up."
Tumblr media
"There's no game. I'm not gonna sleep with you."
"Technically there wouldn't be much sleeping."
Sky felt the corner of her mouth twitch and heat gather in her core. Damn her lack of a sex life and his blue eyes. A knock at the door pulled them away from their intense stare down with each other, Bucky moved to hide in the bathroom, while Sky went to open it. To her surprise Jason, the eldest of the Champion siblings, stood on the other side. Like Kyle, Jason was taller than most and had dark brown eyes, and tied with his brother when it came to the amount of women they had falling to their feet. Although Sky had a feeling that Jason wasn't interested in women. But Jason had a bigger build than Kyle, something he showed off by wearing tight button down shirts that he kept unbuttoned at the top.
"Jason, is something wrong?" Sky asked
"I wanted to talk to you about Leona." He cut to the chase "Mind if I come in?"
"It's your club, I don't see why not." Sky stood to the side to let him in, checking over her shoulder to see if Bucky was completely out of sight. Jason strolled over to Leona's side of the room, trailing a finger along the vanity, as if he expected to find dust where it shouldn't be.
"Leona quit last night." He spoke smoothly
"Quit? Kyle told me she was sick."
"Sick of the job, 'glorified stripping' she called it." Jason turned to Sky "Did she seem off to you last night? Or say anything that raised any red flags?"
"No, she didn't give me that impression." Sky could feel Bucky watching her again and it made her shift from foot to foot
"What about any of the other girls? Any strange behavior?"
"Well Jackie ate her weight in boneless wings last week. I thought she was vegan." Sky faked a chuckle, Jason smirked at the poor attempt of a joke
"Well if that's all, then I guess I'll leave you be. Let me know if you see or hear anything." Jason strolled back over to the door
"Not a problem boss." Sky followed him to the doorway, watching him make his way down the hall before shutting the door again.
She felt him behind her before she could turn around, but didn't know how close he was until she actually faced him. Bucky peered down at Sky, studying her features, she was flustered (obviously), a light pink appeared on her cheeks.
"You did great, kept calm, not bad for an amateur." He cool breath fanned across her skin
"It's my job to pretend, entertaining the idea of pleasure."
"I'm sure you could do more than that." Bucky's eyes traveled down her body before meeting her eyes again "Now, back to my hypnotizing blue eyes."
"If I didn't know any better," Sky stood on her toes, lightly brushing herself against his body "I'd think you were flirting with me, Agent Barnes."
Bucky's tongue trailed along his bottom lip, his eyes now dropping to Sky's lips. She smiled before slipping from around him.
"I have to get back to rehearsal, gotta keep up the act right?" Sky winked, rushing out of the room
Bucky let out an uneasy breath before adjusting his pants.
"She is good, a fucking professional."

So I had the food network playing in the background and would you believe during an old ep of No Reservations I spied Bucky Barnes performing in a Berlin cabaret show?

Masterlist
[Y/n] walked dejectedly back out into the main area. She looked over towards the bar amd saw Steve working. As she headed that way, she heard the waitress and some patrons.
“Hey Waitress!”
“Sweetheart, over here!”
The waitress turned with a glare, cocking a hip, “One minute!” She sneered.
With a determined glint in her eyes, [Y/n] swooped up an empty tray and tied an apron around her waist.
Walking up to the patrons that the waitress had brushed off, she smiled and got their orders.
Walking up to the bar, she set the tray down in front of a shocked Steve.
“A shot of Patron and...tough guy in the hat over there...wants a cosmo.” She smiled conspiratley.
Steve leaned towards her, worried, “What are you doing?”
[Y/n] bounced on her toes, puppy dog eyes as she pleaded, “One night. If i’m not better than boobs-for-brains over there, you don't have to pay me.”
And it worked. The next night, she wore a purple corset with black booty shorts and black high heels. Getting drink orders and walking around the main floor as the girls onstage lip sang and danced.
Maria was sitting with Tony at the bar. Maria noticed [Y/n] walking around and whispered to Tony, “Isn't that the girl that was backstage?”
Tony looked over to where Maria was peering, “I think so.”
Maria swiveled on the bar stool and gestured for Steve to come over to her. She pointed to where [Y/n] was laughing and chatting up Patrons, “Hey Steve, What’s she doing here?”
Steve looked abashed and shrugged, “She really wanted a job...so She’s our new waitress.”
Maria laughed, “When did I make you head of personnel?”
Steve flung his wipe rag over his shoulder and poured Maria a shot of Vodka, “She just picked up a tray and started working.”
Maria placed a finger on her chin as she thought, “Really?”
Tony looked amused and a smile graced his face.
Steve took a step back as [Y/n] walked up to the bar with her orders, “Her name is [Y/n].”
Maria called out, “Hey [Y/n].”
[Y/n] walked timidly up to the imposing woman she had met backstage the other day.
Maria stepped off her bar stool and started fiddling with [Y/n]’s corset, “Look, this is cute. But come on, push up those boobs. You got em, show them. Work them. And don’t ever go behind my back again.” She waved a warning finger at [Y/n].
[Y/n] blushed and smiled shyly, “Yes Ma’am.”
Maria laughed, “And don’t ever call me Ma’am again.”
[Y/n] tumbled over her words, “Yes sir. I mean Ma’am. I mean, Maria.”
Maria waved her off, chuckling. She sat back on her stool and turned to Tony, “Ma’am..What am I? My mother?”
Tony laughed and nudged her shoulder with his, “Yes Ma’am.”

The Burlesque Lounge: Part 9
Part 1 | Part 8 | Part 9 (here) | Part 10 |
Harley
"Look at you." I look at Rhodey.
"What?" He shakes his head. "What?"
"Well, nothing, just the way you're gazing after him." I scoff.
"I have a boyfriend, remember?"
"Yes, I do. I know. Three thousand miles away."
"We still talk every day."
"You do?" I nod, continuing to clean up. "About what? Let me guess, don't tell me. About him... Him... And, I don't know... Him." I give him a look. "AII I'm saying is that, that one there is a good person, on the inside as well and he's not going to be available forever."
"Relationship advice from Mr. One-Night-Stand himself. That is—" Peter runs back in.
"Forgot my jacket..." He grabs his jacket off the barstool and looks at us.
"Oh, no..I was just telling Jack here how every opportunity has a shelf life."
~~~
~~~
I take drinks up to the girls, just in time to see a golden interaction.
"I don't understand why everyone is having such a conniption over him, he's just a tacky circus performer from Ossining." Flash complains as he struggles to open a can of hairspray, as Peter is walking behind him. He grabs the can.
"And we know a clown when we see one." He pops it open. "Don't underestimate us circus folk." I smirk as Peter walks away.
I take the drinks back to Tony and Rhodey. I loiter outside of the door.
"You have been saying that the sky is falling forever. And everything always works out fine." Oh, great. Argument between Tony and Pep.
"Tell that to the people losing everything. I don't wanna be one of them. I love this place too."
"No, you don't."
"I do."
"No, you don't!"
"Yes, I do!"
"Oh, no, you don't. Look, you have many fine qualities, Pepper, and then you've got some iffy qualities, but you've never been a phony. Just tell Stane no."
I roll my eyes and deliver their drinks, then go back down.
"Hey!" I look at Peter in his get-up. "So, what do you think?" It is a very arousing sight, seeing him bare-chested and covered in glitter.
"I think you look..." I am unable to form a coherent sentence. "Uhh..."
"Harley, we're friends. It's not like were brothers." He gets up and goes.
"Oh no we are not."
~~~
~~~
I wake up before Peter and go to write music at the club, and get back before we have to go back.
I walk in, and am about to say something, but I'm greeted with seeing Peter, his shirt completely undone and his pants just below his hips, as he looks at his ties. That image should honestly be illegal. He's so attractive.
I have a boyfriend. I have a boyfriend, who I have been with for six years. I'm happy with him.
"Harley?" I snap out of what I was doing and blink.
"Uh, yea. Just got in." He buttons his shirt and tucks it in, pulling up his pants.
"Can you help me?" He is now trying to tie his tie.
"Can't tie it yourself?" He gives me a look as I begin doing his tie.
"Where've you been?"
"Writing music."
"Can I hear?" I take a breath and he rolls his eyes.
"It's not ready." We say together.
"Who's that?" I look at the picture on the dresser.
"Me and my uncle on my 12th birthday. He died a few weeks later."
"You must miss him." He nods.
"Every single day something happens that I wish I could tell him about."
"And what happened today?"
"Nothing yet." We are both leaning in, until my phone rings, startling us both. "You should get that. It's probably Nataniel."
"Probably." I walk out of the bedroom. "Hey, babe."
"Hey Sexy."
~~~
~~~
After the show, and a painstakingly sexy performance from Peter, he runs up to the counter as people are leaving.
"Starving, you ready?" I wince.
"I can't. I'm so sorry. I have to do inventory tonight. Want me to call you a cab?"
"No, that's okay. I'll get a ride with Shuri."
"Sorry." He shrugs. I grab a box of plates and glasses. "Watch your back. Coming through."
Peter
"Hey, you ready?" I look and see none other than Obadiah Stane.
"Um? Excuse me?"
"Shuri left five minutes ago." I cross my arms and give him a look. "I was coming over to talk to you. I caught the end of your conversation."
"Talk to me about...?"
"Dinner. With me. Give me that." He snatches my jacket. "If you ever expect to see this jacket alive again... You'll follow me." He turns and walks away.
"Hold on a second. Where you going? Hey!" I end up in his car, which is fine, I guess, until he doesn't turn when I tell him to. "Where are you taking me? This is not the way to my place."
"I told you. Dinner."
"Dinner? I'm not going to dinner with you."
"Why not?"
"I don't even know you."
"Well, now you do." A few minutes of driving later... "Oh, damn it."
"What?"
"I just remembered I gotta make a quick appearance at a party.
"You just remembered." I roll my eyes.
"It's on the way. We'll be quick. Ten minutes, tops. Do you mind?"
"And if I do?"
"Then you've been kidnapped." We pull into a huge house.
"Nice house." I gape. He leads me through the kitchen area, a nd a roaring party, grabbing a tray of food and glasses, with a bottle of something.
"What are you doing? You can't just take that. Put that back. You're gonna get us kicked out of here."
"Not if we sneak out first, come on." He leads me up some stairs, and run into some people. "Hey, hey. Greg, Marla, this is Peter."
"Hi."
"Hey, great party."
"Always good to have you, man." We keep moving.
"Wait a minute. You had to make an appearance at your own party?"
"Would've been rude not to, right? You'd like those guys. Greg's an entertainment editor with 'The Times', Marla's a designer."
"Oh my god." We stop on a balcony overlooking the city. "New York looks gorgeous from up here."
"That view cost me three times what the house did. See that strip mall down there?" I nod.
"You own that too?"
"No. I own everything above it."
"There is nothing above it."
"Exactly."
"So you own air."
"Air rights. The guy that owns the strip mall ran into some money issues, almost had to sell. Whoever he sold it to would've put up a huge tower. So I bought the air rights. Now, no one can ever build above one story."
"Well, aren't you clever." I roll my eyes.
"Mall guy gets to keep his property, I get to keep the second best view in the city."
"What's the first?" He looks at me. I roll my eyes. "How many people have you  used that line on?"
"None ever who called me on it." He sips what I have recognized as Champaign. He offers me some.
"I'm twenty, not twenty one."
"Are you a cop undercover?"
"I have a moral issue with underage drinking, are you trying to coerce me?" He smirks.
"What do you want, Peter? In life."
"And why should I tell you?"
"Because you're talented enough to get whatever you want and I'm smart enough to help make it happen."
"How about you just take me back to my apartment?" He sighs.
"Fine, fine."

The Burlesque Lounge: Part 8
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8 (Here) | Part 9
Peter
After showing my old castmates around my current place of business, I head backstage to start getting ready. I catch the end of an argument between Flash and Tony.
"You're drunk, go home."
"I can't go home I'm about to go on!"
"You're gonna go home."
"Relax. It is one drink. What is the big deal?"
"Peter you're gonna take Flash's spot." I look up.
"He can't dance my part!"
"What? No I—"
"Oh yes he can and he will."
"No, no, no. Oh my God, I can't do that." I backtrack.
"No, no, no, wait. You said you can do any number, right?"
"Now, I just don't wanna step on anybody toes."
"Then don't." Flash steps forward as Tony blocks him.
"I don't ca—listen to me. You're gonna go on, and you're gonna go home. Here, put this on." He tosses clothes at me.
As I change I learn that I'm leading a group number with MJ.
We all get in positions and she smiles at me.
The music starts, but stops within the first verse. Everyone freezes. Me and MJ look at each other, and everyone else on stage with us (Betty and Shuri on her side, Sey and Abe on mine).
No one knows what to do.
I hear Tony and Rhodey whisper-yelling about Ned being down and Flash saying Tony needed him.
Of course.
The curtain starts coming down.
"Am I throwing you off?" MJ looks at me.
"Nope." I respond. She smiles.
"Didn't think so." The curtain begins to rise as we go through the routine to the best of our ability while singing instead of lip syncing. The band manages to catch up with us.
By the time we are done, the crowd is on their feet, and everyone is screaming. The lights go off and MJ jumps into my arms. We have a moment of HOLY FUCK before everyone else joins in on it.
"Oh, Tony we just—I didn't know what to do—the music stopped—"
"You sing?" Tony asks, nearly silencing everyone. Me and MJ nod.
"I didn't even know you—" We laugh as we realize we were talking at the same time.
"You guys... You sounded amazing up there together. I..." He takes a breath. "Guys, do you know the songs?" The band members nod. "Okay. So tomorrow, we are going to rehearse all day long, and then tomorrow night, you will be singing. And we are going to go into the show, live." Me and MJ grab each other's hands.
"Live?"
"Go with the guys, find out what keys you are comfortable singing the songs in... I am going to plan an entirely new show." Everyone starts squealing and doting on us. While we just stand there, excited but shocked.
"Clearly one of us has underestimated the other." Flash crosses his arms and flares at me before turning away.
"Ignore him, he's a prick." MJ says, and she hugs Shuri. "Let's go do that."
~~~
~~~
After figuring out the keys, I go out to meet my old friends. Right out of the backstage door, is Obadiah Stane.
"I cannot believe Tony has you guys burried in the kickline." I shrug.
"He didn't know we sang."
"Well you can and you are way too good to be doing it here." Yea no shit, we used to sing while we practiced at the circus. Obviously I don't say that. "How about a drink?"
"Bar is right over there. Tell Harley I sent you." I walk away towards my friends, who start screaming.
"Oh my god that was amazing!" Nat squeezes me.
"I do not support the selling of sex considering you are under twenty-one but damn you are so good!" Steve pats my shoulder.
"Kid you have a great voice and a body built for that business."
"Uh, thanks, Thor..."
"I didn't turn my hearing aides back on until like halfway through but it was really good, Peter."
"Thanks." I smile at my friends.
We spend the rest of the time goofing off, until I have to go back and change, and then we start closing up.
"Who knew that you could do that?" I smile at Harley. "It was amazing, you two are great together." MJ laughs.
"Thanks."
"Who knew any white boy could sing like that?" Shuri bumps my arm with hers.
"How do you do that?" I shrug at Rhodey. He looks at MJ.
"I don't know. It just happens. I just do it."
"I know how that feels. I gotta pee again, so..." Bethany, she's pregnant, gets up, and Betty starts poking her in the stomach. "Stop!"
"We're gonna go get something to eat. You wanna come?" I look at Shuri and Everyone.
"Yeah, I would."
"Let's go."

Burlesque Lounge: Part 1
Part 1 (here) | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 |
Peter
I look around the run down diner. My aunt sits next to me, our boss in the bathroom. We split our tips.
"Sixteen fifty, sixteen fifty." I say, sliding hers to her.
"Are you all ready to go?" I nod.
"As soon as I get my check." I've been packed for months. May thinks I'm crazy but I've gotta go. "Beck, I need my check." I tell him as he exits the bathrooms.
"Pay is at the end of the month." He reminds me, patting my head.
"You haven't paid us in two!"
"You'll get your check at the end of the month."
"Beck, I'm serious, I'm quitting."
"I'll be back before dinner." He walks out. I shake my head as May sighs.
"Yea? Well I won't." I go over to the register.
"Peter?"
"I'm taking what I'm owed. Nothing more." I count the bills out to $1110.
"He'll come after you."
"He'll have to find me first." I look at her. "I'll be home after I close up, then I'm gone."
"You have everything?"
"That's a question for later." I kiss her on the head. "Hey, once I'm big and famous, I'll send a private jet over to get you. I'll call you every day."
"You better."
"And you better come visit me."
"I will."
"It's only a bus ride away."
"I know, Peter."
"Only an hour's drive."
"Why does it feel like I'm leaving you?" She jokes. "I larb you, Peter."
"I larb you too, May." I give her a hug. "Go, you have to be at Whole Foods in twenty, I'll finish up here. I won't go until the morning." She smiles at me, her only blood.
"You're too good to me."
"Nonsense."
"Alright. I'll see you when I get home."
"Bye, May." She walks out the door.
I pocket my money and flip the sign from Open to Closed. I finish wiping down tables while singing along to the jukebox.
I wait by the bus stop after I lock up, leaving my keys hanging on the door.
Once I get into town, I head to the bank.
"Hello, Peter Parker here to make a withdrawal."
"Account number?"
"6 1 3 6 2 9 7 4 0 2 1" I say.
"Alright and how much do you want to withdraw?"
"How much do I have?"
"$1,782.69" I sigh.
"All of it."
"All of it?" She repeats. I nod. "Okay." She hands me the cash and I leave, making mental note of all my cash.
1110+16.50+1782.69... That's about 2910. Then I've got all of my coin rolls which I need to cash but I can do that when I get into the city. I don't even know how much I have in coins so... Almost 3000. Great place to start. That should at least get me a hotel room, an apartment if I'm lucky.
Arriving at the house I go to my room to begin wrapping the rest of my change. I have three giant pickle jars full of change, and a couple old milk jugs. I should be able to get at least halfway through some of it by eight as it's two now, and then I should start dinner. I dump the change out on my bed and start sorting.
See, May did this thing for me. As soon as her and Uncle Ben got custody of me, everytime they'd buy something, they'd save the change. Got me in on it too. We'd roll it as a family, and put it in our china cabinet. They did it for me, but most of it was spent on his funeral. Me and May kept it up, though. So our china cabinet is full of change. We'll have to make trips when she gets back, to different banks, then I'll take whatever's left and sort through it in the city.
~~~
~~~
After sorting through about all of my giant jars and two of the milk jugs, I've got roughly $500, mostly from quarters and even a few dollar coins and the odd bills. It's almost eight, so I begin dinner. Chicken strips and fries.
Once I get that in the oven, I open my old laptop and start apartment hunting. And by that I mean I make sure the one I've had my eye on is still there. I'm elated when I see that it is. It's only $1,600 a month, it's partially furnished, and it's in the middle of the city. I call the number.
"Hello?" A woman's voice answers on the other end.
"Hello, I'm Peter. Parker, calling on account of the one bedroom one bath apartment in Unit 2A?"
"Ah yes. If you would like to see it I can set you up an appointment?"
"That would be great, how's tomorrow?"
"Tomorrow is lovely. Uhh, how about ten in the morning?" I wince.
"Got anything earlier?"
"Seven thirty? That's the earliest I can go." I sigh.
"Alright, seven thirty works. Uh, if I do happen to like the place and there's nothing wrong with it, how soon could I move in?"
"You could move in right then and there if you wanted to, hun. Oh, I'm Hope Van Dyne with Van Dyne Realtors. I'll be the one you are meeting with, if that's okay?"
"Perfect, thank you Ms. Van Dyne." I hang up. I smile. Heck yea! Awesome. I go back to my room and recheck that I've got everything packed, including the air mattress just in case. May is going with me in the morning, since it's her day off, and she's already agreed to help me scope the place.
~~~
~~~
Altogether I have $3,628.75. I'm not letting May give me the china cabinet change. She'll need it for rent. She's helping me move in, as the apartment was completely fine. Ms. Hope is going to be my landlord, so that's nice.
"I'll be down every day off I can." I smile at her and kiss her head.
"And I'll be up for the holidays, if possible."
"You don't sell yourself short, okay? You are talented. You can do anything."
"I know, May."
"And you're so smart. I wish you'd stayed in school."
"I had to help, besides, I take classes online."
"You could've gotten into MIT."
"I know. Hey, I've gotta get job hunting."
"Alright. I larb you."
"I larb you too."

The Burlesque Lounge: Part 4
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 (here) | Part 5 |
Harley
"Says the barely twenty-one year old. You don't know anything about the world." I'm getting upset with him. We always end up like this, it's annoying!
"You are literally four years older. That's not a lot, Nate." He acts like just because he has four years on me, he has infinitely more life experience.
"You're so naive."
"And you're infuriated and belittling. Guys and girls alike come onto me every day but I don't care because I love you."
"They come onto me too."
"And you don't care either. I hop—I know... I just... You know what I miss?" I try to change the subject.
"Sex?" I roll my eyes. We also always end up back there.
"I miss the beginning of our relationship."
"Ew, that shit was cringy as fuck why would you miss it?" I wince.
"Because it was nice. I still remember when we met."
"I don't care about how we met." I stop.
"What do you mean you don't care—?"
"Why worry about the past when we have our entire future ahead of us?" I stop again, and fiddle his class ring on my finger, letting go of the hope I was holding onto.
"I have to go, I just dropped off a coworker at his apartment and I'm just awkwardly loitering in the lo—"
"You were at a coworker's apartment?" I sigh.
"I was at a coworker's apartment building. I didn't go in. I'm in the lot."
"Why?" He demands.
"Because he needed a ride. I wasn't letting him walk fourteen blocks at night in New York."
"Why not?"
"Because it's two in the morning. In New York. And it was fourteen blocks. I'm not letting him risk getting hurt or killed or kidnapped, he's our best server."
"Don't use that voice with me." I flinch.
"Sorry."
"No you're fucking not."
"No I'm not." I snap. "I'm tired of you treating me like a child I'm an adult—"
"You are still younger than me, by a lot."
"Four years. We've been together six. I'm not a freshman in high school anymore."
"You are still a child—"
"Then why the fuck are you dating me?"
"Because you need me." I roll my eyes. "Why else do you keep coming back?"
"Last I checked you were the one who ended up on my doorstep. I gave you another chance. Don't blow it."
"You're so easy to iritate." He laughs.
"Whatever. I have to go, get home. I love you."
"I know." Click. He hung up.
I finger the ring as I rev the engine. What's weird is that this is the same building I lived in the last time me and him broke up.
I pull out of the lot slowly, and also slowly drive the four blocks to my apartment.
He gave his ring to me when I was a sophomore. He had just graduated, and we had just started dating. We met when I was a freshman in shop class, and we became really good friends. It wasn't long until I started to crush hard, and everyone told me it was stupid because he was a senior and I was a freshman but we've been together for six years. Well, off and on. A lot. But that doesn't matter.
I was kinda hoping he'd have proposed by now, since the class ring was a promise, but I don't think that's going to happen.
Natanial is an actor, and he works in pretty big stuff. He's been in multiple movies as extras and a few tv shows as side characters, and this is his first main role. He's the love interest in a Netflix original, and that doesn't bother so much as the fact that it's a gay movie. I could handle it if it was a girl he was having to act with. It would also be easier if he hadn't cheated on me before...
I drive in circles for a little bit. It helps clear my head. I've been thinking about him for a while.
I don't understand him at all. When we first got together things were perfect. But now... He's turned into this... Person that I don't know at all. Its almost like he's drinking again. I'm constantly afraid that he's going to ruin his year clean. He was in rehab and did great and he's gotten his life together a lot since the last time we broke up. He actually came back to me.
I told him that after last time I was gone, but he found me. I don't know how, I mean he probably just followed me home from work, but I never actually found out how he found me. At that point I took up a day job working at a gas station; I needed more money coming in to pay rent and have food and have gas.
I was fully prepared to never see him again, Tony was helping me out anywhere he could. But he showed up and he was okay and looked good and he begged me to give him another shot.
I never could say no to him.
I stop by H-Mart and go to Tous Les Jours to get some sweets, I like the chocolate cone thing. I eat in the parking lot, sitting on my bike. Then I go to the old gas station I worked at. I'm in the mood to talk.
"Harley? Is that you?" I smile at Alyssa, my old manager. She really helped me out.
"Hey, Lyss."
"Harley!" She jumps over the counter and hugs me. "How are you?"
"Living." She laughs.
"Are you and...?"
"Me and Nate are fine." She looks at me. "I know, I know. But he's changed, I promise."
"He changed? That's what they all say, Harley. That doesn't mean it happened."
"He did." I insist. She shakes her head, her blonde hair bouncing.
"What brings you here?"
"I wanted to talk to you, it's been too long."
"Damn right." She hops up onto the counter. "Talk to me, baby." Fun fact, she's from Georgia and is a struggling actress. "Tell me all your worries and your strife." She sings softly. She's always singing. I've missed that about her.
"We got a new server at work."
"Oh?"
"Yup. I just dropped him off at his place. He just moved into town from Ossining."
"Oh that's just a hop away."
"Sure is, but he has no concept of his own safety, the guy doesn't have a car or even a bike."
"Nothing?"
"He ain't got shit, Lyss. He don't talk about no one except his aunt and that's rare. He was walking."
"No." She gasps. "Does he not know how dangerous this city is?"
"Guess not. Anyway I drove him home today, and..." I stop.
"Got into a quarrel with Nate?" She guesses.
"A small one." I confess.
"Did he stray? Why do you stay with him when he's never been loya—"
"He is loyal, Lyssa." I snap, then take a breath. "Sorry. He just..."
"He belittles and berates you?"
"Lyssa—"
"If he treats you like a child why does he date you? You know that's not healthy."
"He's been getting better."
"He's toxic and you know it. When was the last. Time you talked to any of your friends?" I open my mouth. "Six years?"
"They didn't support our relationship." I defend.
"When was be last time you went home? Saw your mom? What about your sister?" I'm silent. "Your birthday is next month. I say you should treat yourself and go home. Reconnect with your family."
"I don't have money to just up and leave, Lyssa."
"Save your money. Is he sending money for rent back at you?" I nod. "Just save as much as you can, honey."
~~~
~~~
We talk for a while before I decide to leave. I take the long way back to I'm my apartment. It isn't until I pass by Peter's building and see him sitting by suitcases, seemingly crying, that I stop.

Burlesque Lounge: Part 2
Part 1 | Part 2 (here) | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 |
Peter
I have no luck finding even the smallest job. No one needs a waiter or a male dancer. I'm about to give up and try again tomorrow, as the sun has began to set, when someone plows into me.
"I'm sorry!" I apologize, even though it wasn't my fault.
The girl straightens as I help her up. She's gorgeous, dark skin and great hair, she has amazing make up as well.
"I'm so sorry, look, I'll make it up to you."
"What?"
"I'm a dancer, uh, come to the Burlesque Lounge, I'll like, I don't know I'll buy you a drink or something, I'm late, I've gotta go, bye!"
I stand there dumbfounded as she runs off. What the heck just happened. I quickly google what the heck a Burlesque Lounge is, only to find out it is basically a strip club without the stripping. Just, people dancing on the stage of a bar. Dancing. I could do that, I'm pretty fit, and really flexible, so it's worth a shot. While I don't drink, maybe I could get a job, and hey, the girl seemed nice. While I'm not all that interested in girls, I am definitely interested in making friends, and also, a job.
I start walking and come across the building, with an older-looking vintage sign that says Burlesque Lounge in neon lights.
I walk in and am surrounded by dark lighting, except for a stage. On the stage there is a group of young dancers, guys and girls alike. One man stands above all of the dancers, and his booming voice fills up the space as he sings.
"We may not have windows," A dark skinned man sits, with an obscene amount of eye liner and glitter on his face, at a booth. "But we do have the best view on the Sunset Strip. Twenty bucks." He smiles at me, his nametag reads Sam. I look around the place, full of loud music and chatter.
"What is this place? Strip club of sorts?"
"Strip club? Kid I outta wash your mouth out with Jägermeister. The only pole you'll find in here is Natasha, the shot girl." I look around again. "Kid, I've gotta club to fill."
"Right, sorry." I did out a twenty. He takes it with a smile.
"Enjoy the show."
I walk in and head to the bar. I'm not going to get anything, I'm not yet 21, so I just sit down and watch.
"Hey, man, can I get you a drink?" I turn, startled, to face the dirty blonde behind the bar. He is also wearing an obscene amount of eyeliner.
"Not unless you are buying, and allowed to sell to twenty year olds." He seems to contemplate this.
"Okay, how about water?" He sits a glass down in front of me.
"Thanks."
"Where you from?" I take a drink of the water.
"Ossining."
"Tennessee. We're practically related."
"Thought you looked familiar." We laugh.
"What brings you to our humble lounge?"
"A girl plowed me down on the streets earlier. Told me to check it out and that she'd buy me a drink. Well, obviously I can't drink, but she said she's a danced so I thought I'd check it out." He gives a short eye roll.
"Barking up the wrong tree, my guy. We aren't a strip club, our girls don't do lap dances." I laugh.
"No, sorry, I'm more interested in getting a job, than I am trying to get a lap dance." He nods. "But, on the subject of lap dances." He raises an eyebrow. "Who do I have to give one to in order to get from down here—" I point behind d me to the stage. "—to up there?" He gives me a look.
"Through that door, ask for Tony. He's your guy, dance away."
"Thanks." I start to walk towards the door.
"Wait, Ossining." I stop. He holds out a small slip of paper. "Use my name." He looks annoyed with himself, but I take it.
"Thanks, Harley." I walk to the door and am surrounded by guys and girls, covered head to toe in body glitter, with eyelashes up to their eyebrows, and skimpy outfits. I feel out of place among the glamour, but it also feels right. Like I'm supposed to do this.
I see the girl from before right when she sees me.
"Hi! I'm glad you came, I'll buy you a drink as soon as my next number is over, okay?"
"Actually I'm more interested in a job, I'm looking for Tony?" She nods.
"He's right up the stairs—" I'm made aware of a spiral staircase. "—and to the left."
"Thank you."
"Hey, I'm Shuri, by the way. I hope you get the job...?"
"Peter." I smile.
"I hope you get the job, Peter."
"Shuri get your ass in here!" She smiles sheepishly.
"That's my best friend, MJ. She loves me, I promise. Bye, Peter. Good luck!" She runs off. I start up the stairs. So far I've made two potential friends if I get a job here, so that's a start, I guess. I look around when I get up there. Dozens of mirrors, vanities, are set up, cluttered with products. I approach a man who is wrestling with a girl's hair.
"Hi, I'm looking for Tony?" He nods behind me. "Thanks." I slowly go to where he nodded. I lean down to look him in the eye through the mirror. "Hi, are you Tony?" It's the man who was on the stage singing when I came in.
"You are in my mirror because?" He gives me a look. I straighten.
"Um, I'm friends with Harley, and I'm looking for a job."
"Okay and where have you danced?"
"Ossining Dance Academy from two to twelve, but I've kept up—"
"Okay, give your name and number to Rhodey over there, we'll let you know when we have our next audition."
"Okay, when would that be, exactly?"
"Rhodes? Honeycake where the hell is Flash?" He ignores me.
"Hell if I know that boy had better get here soon before I put Abe on for him." Tony stands and faces me.
"Alright, you, leave your name and number with your friend, Harley, and we'll get back to you."
"Oh, uh, okay." He puts an arm around my shoulders and guides me to the stairs, kissing the other guy, Rhodey's, cheek. I start down the stairs when I run into another person. "Sorry!"
"Uck, hello. Watch it." He glares at me.
"Oh my god, Flash. Thank god. Get dressed."
"Sorry, the main took longer than I thought." He sits down at a vanity.
"So will finding a new job when I fire your late ass."
"Shut up." He cracks a smile.
"Hurry up before Abe takes your song." I stare at him for a while. This guy gives me bad vibes, he seems like a douche.
"Abe can suck me off before he takes my spot." Okay, yea. Douche.
"Flash, play nice." He rolls his eyes. I continue to stare.
"Didn't your mama ever tell you it's not polite to stare?" I shrug.
"You're just so damn hot I..." He smiles.
"In that case, screw your mama, and stare away." He shimmies, putting on mascara.
"No one would ever know."
"Know what?" He snaps.
"That your actually a girl." Everyone laughs as I head back downstairs.
I head back over to Harley, but I see a couple of the waitresses and waiters are preoccupied as people try to call for them. I notice a treat just sitting on the bar, so I grab it and start taking empty glasses and refill orders. I don't know if I'm technically allowed to serve alcohol, but I'm doing it anyway.
I sit the tray of empty glasses in front of Harley, who stares at me.
"Two Juice on the Rocks, whiskey with lime, Martini, extra dry, two olives, and tough guy with the hat over there wants a Cosmo." He gives me an odd look.
"What are you doing?"
"One night. If I'm not twice as good as the face-suckers over there, you don't have to pay me." He sighs and takes the tray.
I do a little happy dance and smile.
~~~
~~~
At the end of his shift, he tells me that I should go too.
"What's your name, Ossining?" He asks me, putting on his jacket.
"Peter." He smiles at me.
"Welcome to the team, Peter. I'll see you tomorrow, we open at six." I let out a breath.
"Thank you." I reach for a hug, then stop. "Thank you." He keeps smiling.

The Burlesque Lounge P13 (end)
Part 1 | Part 12 | Part 13 (end)
Peter
Sitting at the bar at the club, knowing we are not going anywhere, ever, is the best feeling ever.
"You know, what I would love to hear?" Tony looks at me. "A big fat 'Thank you, Peter.'"
Flash walks up to us, which is weird since I haven't really seen him since the paper.
"I didn't actually do any of that, I just said that to hurt you."
"I know." Tony says. Flash looks horrible.
"I crossed the line."
"You think?"
"I wanna come home."
"Okay, you're home. Go change, you're on in an hour." He smiles, and heads up stairs. Tony looks at me. "And if you ever pull half the shit that he pulled, you will be out on your ass so fast, it'll make your head spin." I put my head on his shoulder."
"Yes sir." We start laughing.
"And don't ever call me 'sir'!"
"Yes ma'am." We laugh again. I get off the stool. "I'm gonna go get changed for the show." I start walking away.
"Thank you, Peter." I smirk to myself as I keep going upstairs.
I smile at Flash as I walk past his station, and he smiles back.
"I've been looking for you." I look in my mirror and see Harley.
"Well, you found me." I turn around.
"I wanna talk to you."
"I have to get ready." I turn back around but he puts his hand on my shoulder, keeping me from turning all the way.
"I know I messed up, okay? Big-time."
"When? When you lied to me about your relationship being over or when you kicked me out of your apartme—"
"It really was over. Okay?" He puts his other hand on my other shoulder. "And he's gone. I'm here to apologize. I never should have let you walk out that door." I cross my arms.
"Go on."
"I want you to come back."
"So, what's the proposal, exactly?"
"Well... I still have that full box of cookies." I laugh slightly and look at him. "And an empty day bed."
"I want the bedroom."
"Half. So are you in or are you out?"
"Oh, Harley. Now, see, I'm the kind of guy that, when a friend's in trouble, I help. That's just who I—"
"Shut up." He kisses me.
"Okay, then. All right." He turns to walk away, but turns back. "Oh, I finished a song. I think it's pretty good."
"Oooh, Can I hear it?"
"No." I give him a look. "But you and MJ can sing it." I smile.
~~~
~~~
After performing, I walk into the audience, mainly to get a drink since I've got twenty minutes until I need to go back to change again, but I see a few familiar faces.
"May!" I hug her and she hugs me back.
"Hey Peter! The guys from the circus brought me." I smile at them all.
"I love you all, so much, and would you all like to meet my boyfriend?" May punches me in the shoulder.
"Boyfriend?"
"Come on." I lead them back to the bar. "Everyone, this is my boyfriend, Harley." My circus friends look at me, giving the 'mhm' look.
"It's nice to meet you, I'm May." May extends her hand.
"May Parker?" She nods. "I'm Harley Keener."
~~~
~~~
"Merry Christmas, May!" I hug who is basically my mother as she beckons us in. Us, being basically everyone the club, and everyone from the circus. She adopted basically everyone into the family, and everyone frequents her apartment.
We all gather around the small tree, even though there really aren't any presents, and begin passing out drinks, and swapping stories. The few gifts that are present, are presented. Laughs are shared. Flash announces that he has a boyfriend, but didn't bring him because he 'didn't want us to scare him away' which is understandable.
Steve and Bucky are, of course, getting married on the Fourth of July, but we already knew they were engaged, we just didn't know the date. T'Challa and Sam are together, again no surprise there.
It isn't until about six o'clock, when Harley says something that I don't really think anyone was expecting.
"Alright, there was a lull in conversation, so I am going to change the subject, entirely. It can go back, but this is important." I look at my boyfriend of nine months. "I made the mistake of waiting for six years for someone else to do something, and I hate to break it to everyone, but I'm not making that mistake again." He looks at me. "I always thought I knew what love was when I was with Nate, and man I was so wrong." We all laugh, and I have no earthly idea where this going, but May is smiling like she does. "Love isn't being afraid of the person you're in love with. Love isn't being degraded and manipulated every day of your life with them. And, Peter Parker, you showed me that. Thank you." I still have no idea what's going on. Everyone else looks excited. I'm so confused.
"You're welcome?" Everyone laughs.
"So, Peter Benjamin Parker." He pulls out a black box and I feel my soul ascend I'm so fucking stupid. I try to keep myself composed.
"What's the proposal, exactly?" He smirks at me.
"Well, you can keep your half your half of everything, and I hear marriage has really great tax benefits, and let's face it who doesn't need help with those?" Everyone is vaguely confused, but we know exactly what's happening.
"Oh, Harley. You see, I'm the kind of guy, that when a friend is in trouble, I help. That's just who I am."
"Shut up and take the ring, you idiot." I laugh as I let him put the ring on me, and I kiss him. Everyone else laughs and cheers.
~~~
~~~
"I don't know about this, Babe."
"You can do this, Harley. I'm right here with you." He looks at me and kisses me.
"You sure about this?" I squeeze his hand.
"You can do it, Love."
He knocks on the door.
"Yes?"
"Abby?" The girl, looking very much like a female Harley, looks absolutely shocked.
"Harls?"
"I'm home."
"Oh my god." She latches herself onto Harley, and he does the same. After a second the pull apart.
"Oh, uh, Abby, this is Peter. My fiance." I smile at the title.
"Harley has told me so much about you." She looks between us.
"You dumped Nate?"
"Yes, I did." She hugs me, very hard.
"Thank you so much for saving my brother from that dick bag." I hug her back. "Now, there are some people who I know will be absolutely ecstatic to know you are back and done with that asshole." She reaches and grabs a jacket from inside her house. "Unlike you, I kept in contact with your old friends. I was just about to go see them, so, let's go."
And so, Abby takes us to an old building, and Harley seems to know right where we are.
"They still hang out here?"
"Every Friday." She opens the door to the old church looking place.
"Oh my god, it hasn't changed."
"Guys, I have a surprise for you!" We enter what would have been the Nave, the congregation room, and six adults are sitting on the stage.
"Oh my god." One of the girls says.
"Is that—?"
"Hey, y'all." Harley breathes. They all jump up and off of the stage, running to hug their friend. I can't help but smile. They hug for a long time. "Oh, uh, guys, you'll be happy to know that Nate and I are officially no more. This is my fiance, Peter." Everyone cheers super loudly and hugs me.
"Uh, hi?" I hug people back as Harley starts introducing me to people.

The Burlesque Lounge: Part 10
Part 1 | Part 9 | Part 10 (here) | Part 11 |
Peter
"Hey Shuri, let's go. Let's go! Five minutes. Petey, you're up next." Rhodey ruffles my hair.
"My uncle used to call me Petey."
"Did he really? That's so fascinating." He pinches my cheek and I laugh, fixing my makeup.
"Why don't I have a nickname?" Flash asks.
"Oh, you do." Shuri laughs.
"Well, he never uses it."
"No, I do."
"When?" Flash goes down stairs.
"When you leave the room." He waits for Flash to disappear. "Slut."
"I heard that."
"So sorry! I had no idea! Oh, my God." We all laugh very loudly. "Children, come on! We have a show to do! Let's go, let's go! Let's go! Hurry up! Come on!"
~~~
~~~
After the show Tony drops a newspaper on the table, and on the front page is us. Me and MJ, and the rest of the dancers.
"That's major." Shuri touches it.
"Oh my god." I say. It's all I can say.
"Major? Check again. The only thing major is the size of Shuri's ass."
"You guys are doing amazing, keep it up." Tony pats me on the shoulder as he walks away.
"Hey, Stane is at table twelve, asking for you." Abe winks at me and I roll my eyes. Everyone keeps obsessing over the article.
"There he is, the man of the hour." I roll my eyes. I kinda want to punch him, but I'm glad he did what he did.
"I'm starting to think, you'd go to any length."
"I just made a call to Greg at the Times."
After he's done trying to chat me up, I go talk to Tony.
"Hey." I walk into his office.
"Hey. That really is a great shot." I'm dipping MJ, and everyone else is doing something similarly sexy.
"It's so weird seeing myself in the paper like that."
"Well, you might have to get used to it."
"I don't think I ever could." I sit in the chair.
"You know, I don't wanna come off like the wise old fairy godmother, especially since I am a man," We laugh lightly, "but maybe you could learn from my mistakes."
"What do you mean?"
"You gotta learn who are the people that you can trust, who are the people who really like you for you, and who are the people who just want something from you." Obadiah.
"You don't like Stane, do you?"
"No, I don't. I don't like him. I don't trust him. I don't think you should trust him."
"But is that really what's best for me or what's best for you?"
"I don't know. I hope it's best for both of us."
"Alright, well, See you tomorrow."
~~~
~~~
"He took you to a party." Harley asks.
"Yes." This is the first real conversation we've had since.
"At his house."
"Yes."
"What happened?"
"Nothing, Harley. He gave me food, introduced me to some people, offered me a drink, I refused, he took me home." He pulls a face as he hits a few notes.
"Then he got us on the cover of the Times." I roll my eyes. "I'm just saying that there is only one reason someone doe—"
"So what if I'm getting a little attention?"
"You're getting a lot more than a little."
"Not from anyone that matters." I mumble. He's seriously starting to annoy me. Not like, in a bad way, I love him, he's one of my good friends, and I definitely am attracted to him, but it's not like anything happened.
"I just think you should be careful—"
"And I think that if you really feel the need to tell someone what they should and shouldn't do, you should pick up the phone and call your boyfriend."
"You—"
"You're acting like a total prick. Is there something you wanna say?"
"It's not just me. The people that care about you, are worried."
"What people?"
"People, you know? People. Your friends at the club. We're like a family there, and we look out for each other."
"You all look out for each other? Like Abe looks out for Caleb and like Flash looks out for everybody."
"And Stane? He's gonna look out for you?"
"I don't—"
"No, it's fine. It's fine. He can make things happen for you. So go ahead, make a deal with the devil."
"First of all, Stane is not the devil. He's a smart businessman who oddly enough happens to be a gentleman who knows what he wants and he goes for it." Why are we yelling at each other? We literally never yell at each other. I don't even like Obadiah, he just has a weird obsession.
"I'm just saying. Life is about the choices you make."
"The choices I make? Oh that's rich. You're a bartender-slash-piano player who writes songs that are never ready." I snap.
"Wow!" He looks at me. "That's perfect. Perfect." He slams the doors to the bedroom closed.
We've never fought before. I'm worried for what this means, what if we never get past it?
My phone starts ringing, and I sigh, happy to hear from May.
"May." I smile sitting on the couch.
"Hey, how's everything going?"
"Oh, you know. Normal."
"That didn't sound too sure."
"Just... The club is going under. I'm worried."
"Yea, but I saw the paper. You looked amazing."
"Thanks, May, but I don't know what to do. I heard Tony and Rhodey talking, we'd need to fill the MetLife for a week to save it."
"Oh, hun, I'm sorry. You can always come home."
"I don't want to need to, I want to be able to come home on my own, to visit, and what about everyone else?"
"I know you're worried, but it will work out, honey." I sigh, about to say something else. "Do you remember when we would sit together and roll coins?"
"Yea." I smile.
"And you asked why, and Ben said because times are tough, and you said that times are always tough. Do you remember what he said next?"
"Tough times lead to good times, sometimes it just takes a little longer."
"Good. Remember that. And remember that I larb you." I smile.
"I larb you too, May."

The Burlesque Lounge p12
Part 1 | Part 11 | Part 12 (here) | Part 13 (end)
Peter
"I knew it!" I'm startled awake by someone yelling and throwing the door open.
"Nate?!" Harley jumps up.
"You are a liar. A pathetic, sneaky little liar!" I look at Harley.
"What is he doing here?"
"I live here. What I wanna know is, why you're here? I can't believe I bought your bullshit. 'He's nothing.' 'He's just some guy that I worked with. He's not even cute.' Well, at least you were honest about one thing." Harley is up, and trying to get Nate to calm down.
"You said that?" I ask, honestly trying not to cry.
"I did not." He tells me, but I don't really know if I believe him.
"He did." Nate yells.
"No, I didn't!"
"Yes, he said that." I get out of bed, glad we didn't actually have sex. I start grabbing some form of clothing.
"Look..." Harley grabs me when I get out of the bedroom, holding me close. "I'm sorry, could you just give me some time—"
"You're asking me to leave?"
"No."
"Yes, you! I'm the boyfriend." I look between them.
"You told me that you broke it off with him." I get out of his grasp and grab my jacket.
"I did." He tries to assure me.
"You think you break up with a guy like me over the phone?"
"I'm out of here." He grabs me again. "You told me it was over." I push his chest.
"No! Peter, Peter—Please—"
"What, Harley?" I look at him, hand on the door, and Nate destroying everything.
"I am sorry."
"So am I." I open the door. "I'm out."
I ignore him yelling and run. I remember a vague address and decide to go there.
I don't have my wallet, so I can't get a cab, and it's raining.
~~~
~~~
I knock on the door.
"Hello?" That is not Sam.
"I must have the wrong apartment."
"Who are you looking for?" He asks me, trying to look like he's not half naked.
"I'm looking for Sam."
"Sam? Uh, what's he look like?"
"Yay high. Buzzed head. Brown eyes."
"Sam." I nod, and he motions me in. "Is that him?" He asks when we get to a bedroom.
"Yeah." He starts waking up.
"Hi." He tells me. "What are you doing here?"
"It's a long story. I shouldn't have come here. I see I've obviously interrupted something. Might be a bad time."
"No, that's okay. " He yawns and sits up. "Did you meet uh, T'Challa?" I shake hands with the guy who opened the door.
"Does anybody want any coffee?" They start nodding. "Yeah. Why don't I go make the coffee and you guys get better acquainted." I make my way to the kitchen to start coffee.
"Alright Peter, what happened?"
I explain everything that happened.
"Well, it's probable that Harley did break up with Nate, and good for him, those two have never had the best relationship. Nate just didn't take it well. Harley would never purposefully hurt someone." Sam assures me. "Where are you gonna go?" I shrug, and my phone starts ringing.
"Hello?"
"Hey." I roll my eyes immediately.
"What do you want, Stane? How did you get my number?"
"I have my ways. I'm coming to get you, so get ready. Where are you at?"
"I'm not telling—"
"Come on." I sigh.
"Fine." I give him the address.
"You're talking to him?" Sam asks when I hang up.
"He won't take no. I don't like him, at all, but he is persistent and annoying."
~~~
~~~
He takes me back to his house, for dinner. I seriously am starting to hate him, something about him just doesn't sit right.
I end up walking around his place, and find a scale model of the city.
"Hope you're hungry. Steaks are on."
"What is this?" I look closer at it.
"Right now it's a model. When it grows up it'll be multi-use space residential, retail—" I see the address.
"But this is the address of the Burlesque Lounge."
"Best view in the city with no windows. When I'm through with it, it'll have a thousand." Oh okay. Now I know why he seemed off.
"Does Tony know about this?"
"Tony knows I've made an offer to buy his space."
"What makes you think he'd ever sell?"
"I don't think he has a choice. He's going under. I've made a very generous offer. It's a win-win situation for everyone." I look at him, and I'm sure that my face conveys my disgust. "It's business, baby, not personal."
"First of all, don't call me that, and second of all, it's pretty personal for Tony and Shuri and Sam and what about me?" He puts his hand on my shoulder.
"Hey, hey, hey. Listen, There are other clubs that you can sing and dance in. Better ones." I shake my head.
"You don't get it." I walk away from him and grab my stuff.
"I don't understand. I'm trying to do something that benefits everyone. How does that make me the bad guy?"
"It doesn't, Obadiah. It just makes you the wrong guy." I try to leave.
"Where are you going?"
"I'm going to my job, because some of us have to make ends meet everyday." I slam the door.
I run to the Lounge and look around. Then I see quite possibly, the only thing that could save the Lounge.
I walk in, straight to the back and hear Tony and Rhode talking.
"No, no. I am way beyond a glass."
"Tony, I gotta talk to you."
"Honey, not right now." Rhodey tries.
"Stane is gonna tear down the club and build a skyscraper." Tony looks at me from the spiral staircase.
"And how do you know this?"
"I saw the model."
"I didn't know that you and he were that close." He is oh so drunk.
"We're not that close. I rushed over here, so I could tell you."
"Don't you think you're spreading yourself a little bit thin? Harley, Stane, whoever." I brush it off.
"I'm gonna forgive you for that because you're drunk, but Tony, I'm trying to help you." Tony just goes upstairs to his office.
"Peter, honey, just let it go."
"No, he's got to listen to me—"
"Just leave it, it's over—"
"No he's gonna listen to me." I manage to get upstairs and into Tony's office. "Tony I have to talk to you—"
"You can still knock! This is still my office, for twenty-four hours."
"Then you really need to hear what I have to say."
"No, I don't. I am tired of talking. I am talked out." He is starting to raise his voice.
"This time you're gonna hear me out." I raise my voice back.
"No, I don't wanna hear you out."
"Do you ever listen to anything other than the sound of your own voice?" I yell. He stops and looks at me.
"Talk." He smiles sadly.
"Have you ever heard of air rights?"
"No, I've never heard of air rights. What are air rights?" I smile, and explain.
"So I'm thinking—"
"Across the street—"
"Let's go."
We run across the street and into the apartment building.
"Now, that's funny." We catch the end of the guy's conversation, and I about laugh when we see him. "Ross, let me call you back, huh?" We sit down at his desk.
"Please sit down, gentlemen, Hello again, Peter." I nod at T'Challa.
"A few years ago you wanted to buy my club and I said no."
"Yeah, and now you changed your mind?"
"No, no but just bear with me for a second because I promise this is gonna have a happy ending for both of us." We all smile at each other. "How much are you planning to sell your condos for?"
"Well, they start at a million and go up from there, depending on the view." He hands us a pamphlet with pictures.
"That's beautiful." I tell him.
"So, what if I told you that a 20-story office building was going up where my club is? That would block his view." Tony looks at me.
"Ten stories would block his view." I say.
"Yeah. Gone. The way I see it, your beautiful million-dollar lake and city views are just gonna vanish into thin air." Now he looks worried and confused. "Because tomorrow I am going to sell my club to this developer and his 20 stories are gonna be well underway by the time you start selling. And so I think that we should talk."
I can't help the smirk on my face.
