Guess what!

Remember how I said back here that I'm in the middle of a project to edit down Our Song episodes, fix the subtitles, and add annotations?

Well, I'm starting to post them! I've got Ep 1 up now and Ep 2 I need to adjust a few translations but then it's ready. Ep 3 and 4 I've got rough drafts of. The rest of the season (12 episodes in total) will take a while, since I haven't started editing them yet.

I also have help with translation now!! @artknifeandglue offered translation from Chinese in @fandomtrumpshate and will be doing song translations for me - since I'm mostly done with the first few episodes he'll just be doing some spot-checking of things I wasn't sure on, but beyond that he'll be doing full translations of many of the songs!

I'm hosting the videos on GDrive, because they'd probably get taken down from YouTube for copyright violation, and I also have copies of the annotations in docs in the same drive.

But! I am also posting the annotations - with links to the videos - on AO3!

So if you're actually interested, you can subscribe so you're notified when I post a new episode!

I'll post here, too, of course.

Genre: rap, rock, chinese opera

This took me awhile to finally dig up the original audio version that had a martial arts video edit for the visuals (Because that's what this song neeeeeeds). It's a really fun song with an older, bouncy style pop rock with a rap portion and some opera. I feel like it's integrated pretty well! It is also lighter and gives a more humorous vibe than some of the other songs I've listened to. I really enjoy these lyrics.

Here is the Penny Tai and Liu Yunning performance. Liu Yunning has a fantastic voice and just from my own musical tastes, I'd love to hear him do more rock-specific songs. Something in minor key and with rough vocals/growling, or something that would stretch his range. He's already got fantastic vocal control and range and is super talented because everything I hear from him sounds effortless. I am super curious what kind of song he would find challenging.

Blake chose not to be the monster.

Adam chose to be the monster.

Weiss chose not to be like her father.

Jacques chose to be a miserly weasel to the end.

Raven chose not to be a mother. Summer chose to be Yang’s mother. And Yang chose to be the mom Ruby couldn’t have.

Qrow chose to be a drunk and bitter.

Emerald chose to be a bad guy, but she also chose to leave that behind when confronted about it.

Ironwood chose to be a bad guy and doubled-down when confronted about it.
