How I hc the junior dynamics (w/ oyzz cause we love and support all juniors & w/ Jin Chan, the one junior I don’t love and support):

Jin Ling & Jingyi are obviously just bickering and banter and intense love-hate. Be gay; do crime. But also do crime and blame it on the straights. Extreme chaos when left alone, almost enough to rival WWX. Almost.

We all know that Lan Sizhui & Lan Jingyi are just... childhood bffs since quite literally forever. They’re never apart. Seriously, it’s almost a problem. Teamwork makes the dreamwork, and these two are above the level of reading each others’ minds. Of course, all the juniors have their own secret code. It’s great.

Ouyang Zizhen & Lan Jingyi: fanboying over romcoms and talking crushes and romance books and being amazing besties and scsisfajvsjaag platonic otp. Oyzz made the Jin Ling Protection Squad as a joke and Ljy took it and ran with it. Sufficiently chaotic when left alone.

Lan Sizhui & Ouyang Zizhen playing hot potato with the 4some’s shared brain cell. Also collective facepalms. They work together to stop the other half of the junior quartet from killing each other. They are very tired.

Lan Sizhui & Jin Ling probably talk about future sect leader responsibilities (assuming lxc never has a kid & lsz is chosen to be the next lan sect leader). JL confides in LSZ about a lotta stuff, cause Sizhui gives great advice.

Jin Ling & Ouyang Zizhen would be great friends. Just. Yes. Oyzz is pretty good at calming JL down (he’s gotten used to it after a while) and I kinda hc oyzz as being one of his first friends (‘sides the Lans). Since the Ouyang sect & Jiang sect were aligned (iirc), I think jl & oyzz would have meet through jc or something in their youth.

Bonus: everyone w/ Jin Chan

Jin Chan thinks of oyzz as unimportant since he’s not from a big sect (which is something oyzz feels a bit self consious about but THIS BOI IS PROUD OF HIS SECT) and makes fun of him. Oyzz doesn’t really let it bother him. once he & the other juniors establish a very good friendship, he’s just happy enough to have friends. Jin Chan is jelly, but now he has other people to bully.

Jin Ling hates him with a passion; Jin Chan doesn’t know how to express his feelings of like properly and someone needs to teach these boys proper feelings. Even if he ever confessed, JL would reject plus ultra.

Lan Jingyi almost hates Jin Chan more than JL. It’s a very argued-about topic. Jin Chan focuses on verbally attacking LSZ at first (and Sizhui is unfazed and brushes it off) but Jingyi has attempted to fight him multiple times. Bc no one can insult LSZ. No one. Not JL, not LJY, not OYZZ, not even LQR. [Would LJY fight LQR for insulting LSZ? I ask that as if all of the junior quartet (excluding lsz) wouldn’t.]

Lan Sizhui doesn’t like him at all, but he doesn’t say anything because ew conflict. He really doesn’t wanna start trouble (especially cause his dad is lwj and lan standards) but when Jin Chan insulted oyzz or jl one too many times... he doesn’t go batshit crazy, but well... wwx is his dad too, just saying.

How I feel about Lan Sizhui:

A darling. He is the teacher’s favorite, but not in a way that makes all his classmates hate him, because he’s also the favorite of all his classmates. Sizhui is just a good boy, period. I think he deserves all the love from his uncles and all the friendship from the other juniors. I also have a lot of feelings about him as the last living Wen (because I have a lot of feelings about the Wens in general) and even having memories of it and like...all these little clues there might be of him being slightly different from the Lan or having these instincts about WWX until one day he learns and it all makes sense. (And hurts)

All the people I ship romantically with LSZ:

I’m not especially invested in shipping the juniors but they are definitely cute! I think the best ship would be Sizhui with Jin Ling. (Zhuiling I think?) Actually just today I watched the scene where the juniors were arguing about the Yiling Patriarch in the inn and then LWJ walks in and orders wine and Jingyi drops his chicken wing in shock. Lol. Anyway, when LSZ and JL were arguing about the Yiling Patriarch, I liked that LSZ is mild-mannered but still stands his ground (remind anyone of Wen Ning???) and forces JL to think a bit harder about his ideas even if JL doesn’t change his mind just then. And I think JL’s pompousness but kind-heartedness could be attractive to LSZ. Clashing yet melding personalities is always a good way to go.

My non-romantic OTP for LSZ:

Lan Sizhui and Wen Ning! They are the only two Wens left! I have really been meaning to get around to reading a fic of them post-canon because I’d love to see them going on adventures together and getting some nephew-uncle (cousin & cousin-once removed??) bonding time while they fight side by side and then sitting together talking about their memories of their family. Also WN could teach LSZ to be a healer!

My unpopular opinion about LSZ:

Lol see my post about why LSZ would be surprisingly good at hand-to-hand combat and should have the chance for some friendly wrestling matches with his friends (it’s #4 in the list of hc’s)

One thing I wish had happened with LSZ in canon:

I think LSZ should learn to be a healer as I mentioned above. LWJ probably spoils him a bit...by giving him extra lessons on healing so that he can carry some of his Dafan Wen heritage without being aware of it. I also would’ve liked to see more moments between baby LSZ and Wen Qing or Wen Ning in the Burial Mounds. Really the entire Burial Mounds settlement arc deserves it’s own show but I’ll save that post for another day

Hi! I read your ZhuiYi fic and had been wondering what LWJ and LQR's thoughts of past!ZhuiLing and ZhuiYi's marriage. Cuz both of them know alot more bout LJY compared to JL. And despite his breaking rules tendencies, LJY is trying hard to uphold GusuLan rules and motto and never stabbed WWX. Bonus that he's so alike to WWX in personality (Godbless LQR's blood pressure). WWX was a bit biased since JL is shijie's son so I won't ask about him, but I think he prioritize LSZ's family happiness now

LWJ is that chill parent who will respect their children’s decisions as long as they don’t hurt other people or land themselves in jail. Privately, Lan romantic that he is, it hurt him to see SiZhui marry someone he didn’t love at the time, but nobody involved technically did anything wrong (except get drunk, but LWJ really doesn’t have a leg to stand on here) since LSZ/JL had already broken up and LWJ can definitely empathise with LJY’s alcohol-and-pining-induced irrationality. And since LSZ decided to marry LJY, all LWJ hoped was that LSZ could find it in himself to love LJY eventually.

(This is really long—more under the cut)

I think, prior to the whole drunken mess, LWJ had already accepted JL as his future son-in-law (I doubt he really holds the stabbing against JL). But while he does feel sorry for JL when LSZ married LJY, it is like you said, he knows LJY well enough (and more importantly likes him well enough) not to make a fuss. He dealt with the sudden change of sons-in-law stoically, like he deals with everything else. And when it became clear that LSZ had finally chosen to commit himself fully to the marriage, LWJ didn’t have any misgivings—only gratefulness that everything worked out in the end for LSZ and LJY (because god LJY reminded him so much of himself).

(Having WWX v2 in his family probably doesn’t hurt either. If anything, LJY is like another son—a mix of WWX’s vivacious personality and LWJ’s Lan features.)

Depending on whether you HC that LJY is LQR’s grandson/nephew (biologically or adopted by LXC, as the Chinese fandom sometimes likes to think) or not, LQR’s reaction might be different (although either way he’d be appropriately disappointed in both LSZ and LJY).

If LJY is related to LQR, LQR would’ve spent 5000 years lecturing LJY on his lack of discipline (“WHAT HAVE I TOLD YOU ABOUT ALCOHOL???”) and then spent the next 5000 years sitting with LJY while he cries about how much he dreads the upcoming loveless marriage. At this point LQR probably also thought of LSZ as his grandson too but LJY took priority since LSZ had WWX and LWJ and LJY had only him. To be frank, LQR probably didn’t care about JL much because his duty is to his family first and foremost, and all he knew was that LJY was hurting. He’d been distantly approving of LSZ dating the mildly bratty JL (because look, after QingHeng-Jun and WWX, LQR has no standards at all), but I doubt he spent enough time with JL to be personally invested in LSZ/JL’s relationship.

If LJY isn’t LQR’s grandson/nephew, then LQR’s thoughts would be framed more in terms of “right” and “wrong”, though he’d lean towards LSZ just because LSZ is LWJ’s son. That both LSZ and LJY drank: against the rules. That LSZ and LJY slept with someone who wasn’t their partner: even more against the rules, and definitely LJY’s fault for taking advantage of LSZ at a time when he was vulnerable. That LSZ wanted to take responsibility: dutiful.

Either way, since LQR is a man of duty and obligation at heart, while he approved of LSZ taking responsibility, he definitely disapproved of the way LSZ was distant during the first year of the marriage despite LSZ being the one to insist on getting married. A marriage is supposed to be a union—if LSZ couldn’t commit to it, he shouldn’t have married LJY in the first place. After all, having suffered heavy losses during the sunshot campaign, the Cloud Recesses is no stranger to children with missing parents. They have a system for single parents.

Also, in the fic, because LSZ is the one training to be the next sect leader (even though realistically it’s probably gonna be a biological Lan like LJY 😅) and JL is from a different sect, LQR might actually be relieved that LSZ married LJY since that meant that there would be no sect-related conflict of interest with LSZ’s cultivation partner haha

HuaLian: I know that it is basically the motto of the fandom that “HuaLian created love” and yes, they did. Their dynamic is just simply so balanced, they complete each other: the God that has only one worshipper left and the Ghost King whose only purpose in life is to protect and show his god that he is worthy of love and care. He waited 800 years to finally approach the one person he admired the most and he had the powers to protect him. I feel like they are the most realistic out of all the main couples in the MXTX novels, mostly because both of them are functional adults (yes they are) and their relationship is built on the mutual trust and respect they have for the other. Catch me in the corner to cry about HuaLian any hour of any day.

ZhuiLing: While I really like WangXian, no matter how hard I try, I can’t push down the adoration of the form of purest love. ZhuiLing for me is like a refreshing little rest in the middle of a bumpy road. They have been through so much, yet they are still standing strong, not only for themselves, but the people around them. Jin Ling’s love and adoration for his parents - that he doesn’t even remember anymore - is heartbreaking, his whole existence just screams that he doesn’t know how to show his feelings and is awkward to act around people that he could call his friends. Sizhui is just the sweetheart that embraces this little broken hearted boy and fixes him, shows him the love that neither of them were truly shown before. The pure and clumsy first puppy love just sweeps me away.

MoShang: The idiot writer and his ideal man in the form of an ice demon. They are both clueless idiots and I love them so much. Nuff said. (I just HC them to be a soft and cuddly couple, SQH enjoying his personal A/C and MBJ being happy that his lover is happy.)

Soukoku: Catch me screaming about height difference couples. Okay so this was the couple that actually got me so deep into fandom hell that you can’t even imagine. I love them because Chuuya is just a ball of anger towards Dazai, who is basically the only person that can make him act differently, make him fall out of his everyday routine of killing and death and break the spell of Chuuya feeling like a killing machine, because Dazai indirectly shows him that he still has his emotions. Calculating shithead x Smol, angry but strong boy. Good shit.

GureShin: They just have had a special place in my heart for years now because of Shinya existing and being a soft boy. Guren is just someone that only looks at one person and chases after them, while Shinya has always stood behind him, supporting from the shadows wherever the other went. And I just simply adore the fact that he made Guren go from “I don’t need friends, fuck off” to “Hey, I basically destroyed the world for my friends”.

I forced myself to only include one couple from each series, because I don’t want to put anyone through a whole post of me screaming about all the TGCF couples. Like, I ship them all. All.

Jin Ling Protection Squad

Or, Oyzz makes a joke and accidentally starts a brand. Also, JL gets a huge fanbase (if this were a modern AU don’t tell me that the juniors wouldn’t be like famous on YouTube or something).

It starts with the whole “JL is a Young Mistress” joke. Oyzz & Ljy are really pushing JL’s buttons (insert red-faced JL and a worried LSZ), and Oyzz casually says, “Wait, what if the young mistress gets attacked? We need to make sure that no harm shall come upon the delicate beauty that is-”

He then got cut off bc lsz couldn’t hold jl back anymore and jl pounced. Oyzz didn’t think much more of it (a little busy being attacked), but Ljy’s has a big brain moment.

A couple weeks later, LJY pitches the idea to the two non-JL members of their squad.

“Okay so what if-”

“Wait. Is there a reason a Ling isn’t here?”

“Yeah, but-”

“Jingyi, last time I got a black eye! I had to lie to my dad about getting mauled by an animal.”

“I mean, you’re not lying. You did get mauled. By a wild Jin Ling.”

Anyways, Jingyi gets lsz & oyzz to go along with his plan

That plan is literally just them following/escorting Jin Ling everywhere. For a week straight. Do you know how many Sundays the three of them had to give up for this?? (Actually, ljy convinced lwj to look at it as their duty to help a young mistress in need. Lwj just sees a chaotic gay but lets it slide.)

at first, jl doesn’t notice (cause he spends a lot of time with the others anyways) but soon it’s like... stalkerish levels of weird. Except you know the stalkers and they’re just doing it to annoy the heck out of you.

It’s hard to explain to your uncle why your three boyfriends are following you around everywhere, but they make it work.

Ljy starts a line of clothing for them (he got some other Lan disciples to help him out in exchange for a share) and believe it or not, it works?? It certainly makes JL more popular (just... not in the way he wanted). It also kinda backfired cause now more girls are interested in the Young Mistress (not sure if it’s gay or straight but I think it’s girls liking the more feminine side of a guy so... yeah).

On the other hand, LJY is stinking rich. So yay.

Lsz is tired, oyzz wants to know how he caused this clusterfuck, and jl is researching a way to heal bones quickly so he can break his boyfriends’ and not get in trouble.

the entire cultivation world just looks at them and wonder how the next generation is going to survive.

Honestly, god-tier ship solely for the junior quartet dynamic™. They all just fit so well and we don’t know just enough to have so much hc-able material for ljy & oyzz.

Oyzz deserves love & is so underrated it hurts me. He’s so soft please just give the boy so appreciation <3

Childhood friends jl & oyzz (not that jl ever acknowledges being friends w/ him like the stupid dumbass he is) is so good. And ljy & lsz are already practically canon to me.

That being said, pining ljy (I don’t care for who, he just pines) is sooo good. But oblivious ljy?? Y e s. Lsz is everknowing & a big part in how all these dumbasses get together (but oyzz forces lsz to love them too bc lsz deserves love too).

But the angst potential is like... 110%. oyzz feeling overshadowed by the others 24/7 and being pressured into leading a sect & learning cultivation when he’s very into pacifism.

lsz has so much stress from being the mom friend™ and sometimes he needs a break from all the canon hurt okay... like he just got his dad back guys.

jl... is an orphan w/ mommy, daddy, & uncle issues. must I say any more?

Ljy is hc-ed as having no parents or abusive parents. That... is... uh. Not great. Plus not being a perfect Lan also pits him & his best friend against each other kinda, which he hates.

But the crack shenanigans between these four is *chef’s kiss*

YouTuber AU | junior quartet

I could have sworn I’ve made a post about this before?? But apparently not?? So yeah. This post focuses on their group channel in this au.

Jingyi and jin ling are absolutely notorious for bickering all. The. Fucking. Time.

There are a ton of compilations of them yelling at each other. Sizhui has banned then from livestreaming together unless he or zizhen is with them.

They mostly have vlogs of them together on their shared channel (named the junior quartet for no particular reason).

They have a couple million subscribers, but a good portion of them are Sizhui’s fancult. There are so many fan edits of him that it’s scary??

Ship. Wars. A small but vocal portion of their subs are in it for the ship, but only Zizhen and Jingyi really follow it. It’s not super toxic, since the four of them are close enough that people can mistake any pair of them to be dating. Plus, their entire dynamic fills like every relationship trope.

Zhuiyi = childhood friends to lovers (and just a lot of fluff) + oblibious boiz

Lingzhen = idk why but they give off hurt/comfort vibes.

Zhenyi = they would totally pretend to be in a fake relationship just to see if anyone would believe it or for fun. Literally no one is surprised. Also could be slowburn? I feel like it could be. Mutual pining, but a lotta ships on here could apply to that.

Lingyi = enemies to friends to lover (kinda?) + the epitome of being forced to share a bed. They keep kicking each other off. It’s funny. Also a whole lot of “won’t say I’m in love”

Zhuiling = a LOT of mutual pining. Was probably ling’s gay awakening, or zizhen. They had a meet-cute.

Zhuizhen = soft, fluffy fluffff. They’re just so soft for each other it hurts me. Soft pda & cuddles.

No one is quite sure how they met or became friends (the only backstory known to the public is zhuiyi’s childhood friendship and maybe a couple offhand mentions of jl and oyzz).

People eventually find out that ling is inheiriting

Jingyi made a coming out video. He literally sang “IM COMING OUT, I WANT THE WORLD TO KNOW” as the intro and people knew where this was gonna lead. The other didn’t, but sizhui has mentioned that he’s pan before. In an interview, oyzz has mentioned that he’s also pan. Ling’s sexuality is unknown bc of the four he’s the most private & doesn’t think people need to know.

He’s not ashamed or anything, but he just doesn’t feel the need to let people know. She he doesn’t.

They do a lot of fan interaction videos, like truth or dares & qna vids.

That’s where they learn about Jingyi and Sizhui’s lifelong friendship. A lot of fans knew that they tended to stick together more often (Jingyi’s Instagram is 75% selfies with other juniors and half of them are of him & Sizhui. The other 25% are pics of places they’ve visited and pretty foods and whatever else people post on Instagram.)

Anyways, half of that qna video is zhuiyi being lovey dovey for each other and jl rolling his eyes more often than what should be humanly allowed.

They do reaction videos together sometimes!! Zizhen really likes them. Hc that he has the cutest giggle and it’s great. They react to a lot of stupid vines (it’s really just jingyi and zizhen reciting them all) and even reacted to fanfiction of them once. We don’t speak of it.

There was the one time they vlogged going to the mall bc jin ling got dared to let zizhen & jingyi choose outfits for him. Sizhui is there for the damage control but secretly takes pics to show wwx.

They didn’t pick anything that would make jl uncomfortable though. Just a little embarrassing or things he wouldn’t wear. Ever.

The disastrous duo make jl try on everything from prom dresses & crop tops to suits and plaid. He didn’t hate any of them, and I guarantee that it was a whole lot of fanservice bc jl’s fashion taste is... lacking. He wears a lot of hoodies and sweats bc he doesn’t give a fuck, but sometimes he’ll wear designer. So you’re either stuck with comfy jl or mismatched designer jl. Odd.

at the end, Sizhui is amazed that jl hasn’t killed anyone and jl’s pockets are much emptier.
