But take into account the boy has to let out his anger or whatever is bothering somehow, so snarky remarks (bc he’s really witty and just sassy it isn’t appreciated enough) and him disappearing for a while to blow off steam would happen. Yet he seems go put everyone else needs first (we don’t deserve him ma’am).

Like most of the dreamies jeno would be hella down to go on amusement park dates !! He loves adventure and adrenaline so im sure that any sort of random ass adventure he’d be hella down for. My typing is interrupted by the banging of my car window. I spare a glance and see Pebble trying to get in. I unlock the car, and she slips in beside me. It’s silent for a bit before she speaks up.

“Can I do you a favor?”

“Depends”

“Am I allowed to crash the confession?”

“No. Z said he’d get footage of everything. Besides, why does it matter?”

“bECAUSE THE WHOLE SCHOOL’S GONNA OWE YOU TWO MONEY?”

“Sounds like a win for me”

“Ok but. She obviously isn’t the person he needs, and at this point, I’m pretty sure he’s no longer interested in her. Why can’t we crash it? He probably won’t even be able to reject her!”

I hum. “He’s not that weak. He knows, and has his boundaries. I wouldn’t worry too much if I were you, you’ll get premature wrinkles from all that forwning.”

“Rude. But really, do you not want to go? Wouldn’t it be better to go and crash it yourself?”

“As much as I enjoy having a little fun once in a while, I don’t exactly plan on being a homewrecker”

“What if he agrees? Then the whole school just calls off the bet? You two are destined for each other! We’ve all confirmed it years ago! Please”

“What’s wrong with taking your sweet time?”

“Of course I’m bothered. What can I do about it though? I’m not jeopardizing our friendship over a girl and hormones. If you expect me to do something, then I’ll let you know that I’m staying on the sidelines for this. Madison is an unnecessary interruption to my life and I couldn’t care less about how much she likes Sun” I seeth.

“Ok. Whether or not you want to believe it, she’s not even into Sun. This would essentially be giving away your love to someone who doesn’t deserve him. Do you want him to get hurt? Torn apart, and then abandoned? Madison doesn’t love him! She never will. Because her entire life here was to get all the boys wrapped around her finger so she could feel superior to us. I thought we’d catch a break since she was going to college or something.” Pebble mumbled.

“I’ll be honest, I don’t want it to happen. But there isn’t much I want to do about it. If Madison wants to piss me off then she can go ahead and do it. I mean she was suspended for a reason.” I sip the cold coffee I got at 3am. “If she wants to continue living in her own imagination then she can go ahead. I don’t care. Sun’s also his own person, what am I gonna do? Whisk him away?”

“You could. But you wouldn’t”

“yEp!” I grin. It hurts to see someone else live out your dream. But then again, I’m not invested enough to fight Madison over a classmate I won’t ever see again after this year.

“Let’s get going. The bell rings in 5” I sigh. The two of us get out of the car, and head to the hallways. My mind had been cloudy all day. The look everyone gives me, one of sympathy, one that begs me to do something about it, anything, there are a few smirks though. The little left of Madison’s “clique” or whatever she called them. A hand makes contact with my head and I visibly relax.

“Morning Cress” It’s Sun.

“Morning Mr. ‘next big bf material’”

“You salty 3 year old”

“Did you expect me to be in a good mood?” I grumble.

“Not really. Z said he’d get the rejection on camera. I’ll deliver my point across. I promise” His voice is soft, and in my ever-loving personality to ruin things, I deliver a snarky remark.

“Ew you’re speaking to me as if we’re already dating or something” I gag. “I trust you. I may be a clingy ass admirer of yours but I like you too much to force you into anything”

“Way to ruin the moment.” He rolls his eyes. “I wouldn’t dream of getting a girlfriend”

“Aww. Have fun watching her cause a scene. Make sure you don’t get too drunk”

“We’re not even allowed to drink yet?”

“Idk make sure Z doesn’t get to the drinks. I don’t want to be taking care of a drunk Z again.”

“Well then, more the reason to have you suffer” I puff my cheeks. “Where’s Madison? Shouldn’t she be clinging onto you or something?”

“Why? You want her to be around?”

“She’s planning the party right now!” someone screams. I think it might’ve been Opal.

The first bell rings, and everyone’s filing to get to class. My mind wanders insanely today, I hate it. My teachers seem to have known what was going to happen today, so most of them let me off the hook. Except for my English teacher. It’s my last period before homeroom so most of the thoughts have disappeared.

“Miss Crescent”

“Sorry Sir”

“Troubles can be turned into words, and words can be turned into stories. I trust you know that?”

I nod. He had a point, maybe an angst blurb would be a nice treat for my blog followers. My hands get to work and I type away. My teacher smiles and my mind is on a one-track focus. When the bell for homeroom rings, I don’t move. Sun has to drag me to our room while I still type away. Our homeroom teacher is understanding, she lets me type away while we go over anything new. My final sentence to the blurb is finished, and I barely catch my teacher’s words.

“The party later. It will be held at the park” The class looks at her in confusion. Wasn’t it supposed to be at Madison’s house?

“There was a change of plans on her part. She wants to watch you” She points at me. “Get your heart broken when our Valedictorian accepts her confession. Which isn’t happening but I mean it’d be nice to watch right?”

My mind goes blank. Was she that much of a sadist? Our class erupts into a violent argument. Saying things about how she just got back how could she do this. My thoughts go back to being a mess, and I’m crying all over again. They’re silent tears, the ones where you don’t whimper or feel anything, just pure tears, honest ones that you can’t control. I’m not sad, why am I crying? Does this mean more than I thought to me? Would I ever catch a break? Or was this about the angst prompt I just wrote? Am I getting too in character? Am I just reflecting on things in the past? Perhaps I’m we-

A rough hand wipes my tears. One that I recognize. It isn’t the pair of hands that I hang out with daily, it’s an old friend’s. One that feels like hours of sports and roughhousing.

“M-mint” I stutter.

“Shhh. I’m here. Go ahead and let it out” I duck my head lower and start to sniffle. I see Sam panting at the doorway, he must’ve fetched him for me. My class is in confusion, Mint and I never talk or hang out openly. So why is he here? I don’t question anything. My tears aren’t controllable, and only when I pass out from exhaustion do I stop crying.

The class calms down slightly after I drop from exhaustion. Mint doesn’t leave, and ends up helping me note down what needed to be worked on for our school. I’m told that Sun doesn’t leave until he gets dragged to the party by his brother. I was out for a good 3 hours.

It’s nearly 6 when I wake up.

“Sleep well?”

“Thank you. I still wonder why we don’t hang out in school more”

“You said it yourself that Opal would murder you”

“She likes you. I don’t like getting involved with unnecessary drama”

“Yet you ended up having beef with Astra and Madison”

“Both of them were the result of them, not me”

“You’re a strange one”

“You got yourself into this mess when you moved here”

“Wanna head over to my place for dinner? Mom misses you”

“I could never miss out on a chance to see my favorite mother figure”

“Might as well call her mom at this point”

Ping! Z has requested a voice call

“Is it happening?” I can barely contain my excitement.

“yeS YES YES IT ISSS” Z screeches. “But before that. Are you feeling better? I heard you broke down again”

“No worries! I’m good now.” I grin, Mint gives me side glance, one that doesn’t believe me.

“That’s probably a lie but you seem excited so here!”

Sure enough, on the other side is Madison and Sun. The group goes silent, and everyone watches the two in anticipation.

“Uh. I’m sure you know already but.” She twirls her hair in between her fingers. “I like you. Please go out with me!”

I hear everyone hold their breath in anticipation.

“I-I don’t see you in that light” I hear Sun whisper out. “B-but! You have one date. To prove to me that you’ll be the best girlfriend”

Everyone there gawks at the words. I hear Z let out a dumbass, and soon, Madison pulls Sun in for a hug. My throat tightens up and I feel my breathing grow ragged. Z is quick to end the call before he punches his brother and Mint offers to have me stay the night at his home.

“You don’t have to. But it really looks like you need some company”

I nod weakly, and he drives us to his place. The home is empty, and his brother is quick to rush me into a blanket fort. His family had always been mine. Maybe I was selfish to think that we shouldn’t hang out openly at school. Too much had been on my mind lately, I had forgotten to take time and relax.

The rest of the day is quiet at his home. His brother calmed down so that I could get some peace, and his mom promised to talk to me about it the next day. Maybe that was why I found myself ignoring the notifications on my phone when I was almost asleep.

Adulting and the "spoiled millenial" stereotype

I have a pet rabbit. I have a smartphone. So does my bf. I have a flatscreen- make that two. I have my own car. I eat out. I take fun vacations once a year. I have cable and wifi. I have hobbies and materials to do them with. I eat good food, even steak. I live in a $900/mo apartment. My bf has a ps4. We have nice furniture. I have decent clothes and jewelry. Yep. I have it made.

Or do i?

Older adults see the above text and think, "Millenials dont know the struggle. So entitled."

Except i do. For every day i and my bf keep the electric and gas on, the phone and cable paid, the rent up to date, the bunny fed, my bf and i fed, laundry/dish/body/hair soap in the house, cleaning supplies in the house, medicine...theres a night of hard labor at a factory. Alot of mornings spent tossing and turning because everything hurts like fuck (and i have chronic pain, so double that). Alot of weekends wasted because i cant break my sleeping schedule. Date nights, birthdays, and holidays missed because i had to sleep. Alot of nights where i eat shit food because i dont have time to cook a proper meal, alot of mornings i go to bed hungry or eat junk food because im too tired to make breakfast. We eat alot of the same things every week and eat lots of canned beans and potatoes and fried chicken, and rarely any fresh fruits and veggies. We eat alot of spaghetti. We only buy milk and pop if its on sale, and alot of sweet tea. We hardly ever buy orange juice or apple juice or grape juice. We try not to eat too fast anything even slightly expensive. We buy lots of bulk items.

And theres more.

Im on a shared phone plan with my bf and some of his family so i can get cheaper service. Our furniture was loaned at a cheap monthly price. My dad bought the smaller flatscreen when i lived at home, and the one in the living room was given to us. Our car is also a loaner from the same person that gave us our furniture. I havent bought more than one new outfit in a long time, and that was with a gift card and i had to search for an hour to find sale stuff that i liked (i paid $13 for a $40 outfit).

Think before you call someone "entitled", just because they have nice things.

Warnings: Cursing, someone gets smacked, mentions of sex

A/N: This is my first fic ever. I’m having serious anxiety about posting it. I welcome feedback (please be kind).

“Yeah so Ho came over on Sunday night”

“Shocker. What’d you guys do? The usual?”

“Yeah. Kind of. We had Daenjang Jjigae and kimchi pancakes for dinner and then we watched The Avengers.”

“Cool.”

“…and then we fucked.”

You probably should have waited to drop this bombshell until Alyssa had swallowed the gulp of Coke she had just taken, because she spit it out all over the table.

“WAIT. WHAT?? I’m sorry, say that again!? Did you seriously just tell me that you fucked your BFF of 5 years, with whom you have the ultimate platonic skinship?”

“Yep. Well, technically, he fucked me, but we’re splitting hairs.”

“We are talking about Yoonho here, right? The tall supermodel looking dancer with the light-up-a-room smile & the damaged psyche?”

“Uh-huh. That’s him.”

“Whoa girl. I want the whole story, and I want details.”

So you told her the story. …and all the details.

Alyssa sat fanning her face. “Ok WOW. I need a cold shower now. Sooo…was he still there in the morning?? I mean the harsh light of day is the make it or break it, ya know??”

“Sort of? By the time I woke up he was out of the shower and dressed because he had to run because he was late.”

Alyssa gave you the look. “Late?”

“Yeah- the dance troupe is now gone for 2 weeks on a mini tour. They were leaving Monday at noon, and as usual, Ho hadn’t packed.”

“So did he say anything?”

“No? He kissed me goodbye & told me he’d call me when he got back.”

“Like *kissed you* kissed you? Or just kissed you?”

“No….like wedding kissed me? You know: it’s a little too long & your lips are a little too soft to be platonic, but it’s not a real kiss either.”

“Mmmmhmmm….I‘m not so sure about this.” Alyssa said raising an eyebrow. “How are you feeling about it??”

Well that was the big question, wasn’t it? Yoonho had been your best friend for 5 years. He’d seen you through through a couple of your hook ups followed by glowing relationships that ended in tragic break-ups, and quite honestly knew you inside and out. You had a secret crush on him that you’d been nursing for 4.5 of those 5 years…and you might have tried to put moves on him earlier, but…it’s just that…well, Ho was a hoe.

A somewhat neglectful childhood, followed by several years as bullied trainee had left Yoonho with waffling self-esteem, somewhat emotionally needy and craving attention and affection at any cost. The fact that he was a) drop dead gorgeous and b) bi-sexual meant that he had a lot of options open to him…and he availed himself of them all. Most were casual hook-ups: one night stands or flings that lasted a couple weeks to a month at the most. His first boyfriend had been a guy who was already in the dance team when Ho joined. He took Ho’s virginity and they dated for a year or so until the guy left to go to dance for Tokyo Disneyland. Then there were a couple girls at the studio he was with for a few months, and a boy at the summer intensive he attended, and then another girl at the dance studio he dated for a few months last year- but those were the closest thing to a “relationship” he had. Really he was just a giant whore, willing to do whatever with whoever to make himself feel loved and needed in that moment.

Watching him live his life this way kind of broke your heart. He had so much to offer- Yoonho was, honestly, a great guy and would be awesome bf material…except for the whole being a giant slut thing. He told you in detail about all his sexcapades, and you made it a point to never be judgmental; instead taking any opportunity to try to raise his self -esteem, and encourage him to see his self-worth and pursue healthy relationships. It pained you to think about how good you could take care of him and how much you would cherish him…but you also knew that a true and solid friendship was precious to him, so he was unlikely to do anything to risk it.

“I feel fine”, you lied to Alyssa, “maybe we’re just moving from ‘skinship’ to ‘Friends With Benefits.’”

Alyssa was so not convinced. “Girl! Don’t lie to me! You have had a thing for him for, like, for-ever! How are you ok with this?”

You sighed. “OK. Ok. I am low key freaking out. But what do I do?? And now he’s gone for 2 weeks. So I guess I just have to overthink it for the next 14 days until he gets back & I see how he is.”

And overthink it you did. Two whole weeks to compulsively check Ho and the dance troops Instagrams…and wonder who he had hooked up with. So much time to replay every single moment – not just of that night, no- all of the last 5 years, and analyze every single action and word. You rushed to check every missed text and call in case it was him. It wasn’t. Most were Alyssa wanting to know if you had heard from him, or Music Plaza telling you they were having a sale.

It also gave you time to berate yourself and feel the gravity of the situation; and if you were totally honest with yourself: you loved being in Ho’s arms – even when it was just cuddling on the couch watching movies. Now you had finally been in them the way you always wanted, and the whole night had been as amazing as you always imagined it would be…but you had done the one thing you swore you’d never do: become one of the random animals on Ho’s fucked up carousel of fun. Not to mention that in doing so you had risked – if not completely ruined- your friendship with the person you treasured most.

At last, the fortnight of uncertainty came to an end when you finally saw a pic on the dance troupe’s Instagram posed in front of the studio thanking their fans for their support on the tour. They were back. You immediately felt nervous and had that slightly naustious feeling. When would he call? Would he just text? Was he going to act like nothing happened, or be fully freaked out??

Considering they had just arrived home, you weren’t surprised when you didn’t hear anything from him that day. But you didn’t hear from him the next day either.

Or the next.

Or the one after that.

Not even the next day.

On the seventh day, you gave up. It was devastating. Tears poured down your cheeks as your heart broke, and you realized that the friendship had clearly meant more to you than him. BFF’s for more than a thousand days, and he had ghosted you without a word.

The sound of your phone whistling a text alert at 10:30 the following Wednesday night startled you. Surprise turned to shock when you saw the message was from Yoonho.

YH: Are you awake?

Y: Yes. What do you want?

YH: Can we talk?

Y: I guess.

YH: Not like this. Can I come over?

Y: …

YH: Please.

Y: Fine. When?

YH: I’m downstairs

Y: Uh,ok.

You weren’t prepared. There was that nervous sick-to-your-stomach feeling again. You silently cursed yourself for not following through when you had decided you should block his number. You took 3 deep breaths and steeled yourself: you were not going to let him know he had wrecked you. Cool and dispassionate was the plan. You’d let him say whatever it was he wanted to say, and then you’d kick him out so you and your broken heart could cry and eat refrigerator cookie dough in peace.

Three very short minutes later, there was a soft knock on the door. You hesitantly opened it to find your (now ex) BFF standing there. His skin was gray, his nose was red, he either desperately needed a new razor blade - or hadn’t bothered to shave for a couple days, his lower lip was chapped and scabbed and the dark circles under his eyes suggested he hadn’t had very much sleep. He was wearing a pair of old ratty track pants and a baggy hoodie…he looked like shit. You were a tad offended.

“Hi.” He rasped.

“Hi. What do you want Ho?”

He looked at the floor. “I know you’re mad at me, but please let me explain.”

You arched an eyebrow and looked at him expectantly.

“I started getting a cold half way through the tour and by the time we got back I was running a 102 fever and my throat felt like it was on fire. I’ve been down with tonsillitis for the last week. I was contagious and I had no voice. I wanted to see you, but I didn’t want to get you sick.”

You glared at him. “You couldn’t text?!?”

He looked sheepish. “I slept for the first 2 days after we got back. …and then I really wanted to talk to you in person, but I couldn’t talk so I figured I’d just wait…and then I kept being sick…and then it had been 5 days…and…” He shook his head “Yeah. I’m stupid. I’m so sorry.”

You slapped him clean across his beautiful face. The crack of your palm colliding with his cheek hanging in the air as you completely lost it on him. “YES! YOU ARE! HOW COULD YOU DO THAT TO ME?!” you screamed. “You were my best friend! I know you don’t respect yourself, but I thought you at least respected me. You took advantage of me and then left me hanging. I’m not one of those desperate horny bitches or fuck bois you love defiling yourself with so much. Why?! Why would you treat me this way? Seriously…why would you use me when you probably have 5 ready and willing holes you can go shove your dick in that won’t give a crap when they never hear from you again?”

“I don’t do that anymore.” He said, so softly you almost didn’t hear him.

“What?”

“I said, I don’t do that anymore. You’re the only person I’ve been with in the last 6 months.”

“I’m the only person you’ve slept with…” you clarified.

“No. You’re the only person I’ve done anything with. I haven’t even kissed anyone else.”

You must have looked confused. He walked over and sank down onto the couch patting the spot opposite him. Ho sighed and took a deep breath before continuing.

“You remember HeeJun’s Chuseok party last year?”

“The one where you got raging drunk and threw up on my date?”

He smiled devilishly. “That’s the one.”

You remembered. Ho got totally smashed, barfed on your date, and then fell down the stairs. Your date went home and never called again, and you spent the rest of the night at the hospital with Ho while he cried and got stitches. You would have been pissed beyond reason had he not been so pathetic.

“I didn’t know you were bringing a date. …and then when I saw you there with that guy…he kept putting his arm around you, and you would smile at him…and you were paying no attention to me…and I was mad. So I started drinking. I skipped the soju and went straight to Tanqueray. But I was still mad. …and then I barfed and I fell…and then I hurt, but I wasn’t mad anymore because he was gone and you were with me and giving me all your attention.”

He laughed slightly, which started a small coughing fit. You got him a glass of water, which he gratefully gulped and sat running his fingers along the rim of as he continued.

“It was the next afternoon, when I was sitting there with ice on my head, eating the haejangguk that you had left for me when I got it. I wasn’t mad. I was jealous. I was jealous that you were with some guy that wasn’t me. I finally acknowledged that I had been lying to myself about my feelings for you. That’s when I really saw myself clearly for the first time…and it wasn’t pretty. You were the most important thing in my life…and I was damaged goods and knew I had nothing to offer you.”

He set the glass on the table, took a deep breath, squared his shoulders, and taking your hands in his looked you right in the eye.

“I took your advice…I am in counseling. I go twice a week. I’m working on building my self-esteem, learning to respect myself, finding healthier ways to fill my emotional needs, and generally trying to fix my issues that caused me to behave like this in the first place.” You stared at him in shock, unsure of what to say.

He let go of your hands, and pulled his wallet from his pocket. Reaching inside, he pulled out a folded piece of paper and handed it to you. “Even though I always wore a condom, I got tested. I’m clean. I have somehow managed to not catch something permanent or that will kill me.” You looked down at the lab report in your hands feeling the tiny knot of worry you had always had for your friend undo itself. He smiled ruefully, “I guess you might have appreciated having this information a few weeks ago. Sorry.”

He reached back into his wallet and retrieved another piece of paper. “I..uh…I went back to school. I know you were disappointed that I cancelled our Wednesday night ramen mukbangs, but I have a class that doesn’t end until 8.” You examined the paper, noting that he had 4 classes, one of which did indeed end at 8 on Wednesdays. “I got a DJ gig on Friday nights at Geumhyuk’s club… it pays enough to cover tuition for 4 classes. It will take me a couple years to finish…but I think I want to be a physical therapist”, he finished with a hopeful half smile.

It was Wednesday. “You had class tonight?”

He nodded. “I walked here after.” You stared at him incredulously. Your apartment was more than 3km from the university.

He shrugged, “I needed to see you. I knew we needed to talk. I’ve been sitting downstairs for the last 2 hours…trying to figure out what to say…this isn’t how I planned to do this.”

He slid off the couch and kneeling down took both your hands in his left, and his right cupped your cheek until you looked into his eyes. “You are, without a doubt, the best thing that has ever happened to me. I didn’t mean for all this to happen now…I wanted to wait- to make progress- confess first…but it doesn’t matter now…and I definitely didn’t mean to hurt you. I’m so so sorry.”

Looking at his face, you could see he was biting back tears. “I still have nothing to offer you...yet. I can’t erase my past, but I’m trying to be better. If you would have me, I would be yours. All yours. …and I promise I will never stop trying to be the kind of man you will be proud of.”

You stared at the tears that had slipped from the corners of his eyes and now cascaded down his face. You flicked his bangs out of his eyes, and wiped his tears with your palm. You shook your head at him. “You were always enough Yoonho”, you said as your own tears fell.

With that, he pulled you into his arms and kissed you with a passion that made you forget all of the angst of the last month. He pulled away, and from between heavy breaths his confession came. “I love you.” You threw your arms around his neck and whispered yours in his ear, “I love you too.”

**Epilogue**

6 Months Later

Yoonho’s body leaned over yours, right hand by your left shoulder for balance as he grasped your right foot and bent your knee to your chest and then rotated the bent appendage outward so your knee was to the side and your foot was near your crotch.

“Mmmm…that feels so good.” You purred. “How many more semesters of Stretching and Mobility do I get?”

He gave a small chuckle, “Two. But you get 4 more of Massage Therapy Techniques.”

“I love helping you do your homework. I knew there were benefits to you moving in.”

He laughed again. “I’d like to think there are others.”

“Such as??” you challenged.

He bent forward and whispered in your ear…and then gave you that heart stopping smile.

You grinned wickedly back. “Ooooo, that does sound beneficial!”

“Allow me to demonstrate…” he growled before carrying you off to do exactly that.

Why BBC Sherlock was ruined by bad writing - Part 1

This post is a part of a long summary of some of the problems with BBC Sherlock which in my opinion ultimately caused the show damage which seems practically irreparable now. One of the related problems actually is that it seems Moffat and Gatiss didn’t get why S4 was met with disdain by fanbase, why reviewers picked it apart, why ratings dropped. It means they don’t want to learn from their mistakes or simply can’t. In fact Gatiss outright refused to believe ratings dropped and that does speak about very huge denial as ratings are facts, not opinions. Both Moffat and Gatiss also suddenly lost enthusiasm about ACD, Sherlock Holmes, although they were gushing about it just not so long ago.

But let’s get back to the problems of the writing I wanted to talk about:

1) The problem with Moriarty

Looking back at first two seasons after clusterfuck of S4, sadly, I could now notice some problems which were already planted in earlier seasons. While S1-2 were the best out of the show some decisions which were made by the writers indicated their true approach to the material even back then. But these problems would only grow like a snow ball and in the end would contribute to the undoing of the show in many ways. Mofftiss were overusing Moriarty from the start. In ACD’s canon he appears in one story (and is mentioned several times) like the nemesis to take down Sherlock once and for all. Since it’s TV series it was perfectly understandable and fair to expand the role of Moriarty, however it was way overexpanded. Moriarty was connected with the cabby, was behind Chinese mafia, then arranged the whole Great Game with Sherlock and then meeting with him in person took place-all in the scope of all 3 episodes of S1. Had the S1 been longer perhaps it wouldn’t have looked so jam-packed with Moriarty and would have been more subtle, but since the S1 is only 3 episodes long it did. S1 also told us that Moriarty killed the school boy, the only case which young Sherlock was not able to solve then, thus setting up Moriarty as this ultimate enemy of Sherlock literally for decades. Then in Ep1S2 we find out that Irene Adler was also working for Moriarty and that he consulted her. Ep2S2 has Sherlock having hallucinations about Moriarty and Ep3S3 have the grand finale where Moriarty tries to destroy Sherlock and kills himself on the roof, and then Sherlock jumps from the roof, faking his suicide.

Honestly by the end of S2 Moriarty was made by the Mofftiss as this be-all and the end-all guy and that already looked over the top. But it still could have been ok, if the Mofftiss could stop there with Moriarty. And that’s exactly what they couldn’t do. They didn’t know how to stop and so they ran this character into the ground. S3 teased us if Moriarty really died or not, with “shocking cliffhanger” final, adding more hallucinations and flashbacks and fake flashbacks with Jim along the way. But the result was that by the end of S3 Moriarty no longer looked liked some threatening dangerous villain, but rather as a self-caricature. S3 also told us that Moriarty had in fact a death wish and that he would have killed himself anyway, making his whole suicide on the roof pretty weak. Instead of some diabolically clever villain with diabolically bold clever calculated plan, we got the guy who just was crazy and wanted to off himself. Big whoop. It got only worse when TAB special was literally dedicated to Sherlock trying to understand that Moriarty, who shot himself standing right in front of Sherlock in broad daylight, was actually really dead. No shit, Sherlock. Moriarty was again present in Sherlock’s Mind Palace, grimacing all the way, which probably was supposed to look cool and edgy, but didn’t, and looked like a tired rehash. Then S4 finally completely killed any coolness or sense which Moriarty still had in the show (and there wasn’t much left by the time). S4 told us how Moriarty met with secret super powerful sister Eurus, spent 5 minutes talking with her or smh and even teamed with her, recording some dumb edgy videos for Eurus, which she used when Moriarty himself was already dead. Since Eurus is capable to hypnotize people after talking with them the question was left open if Moriarty was really compromised by Eurus and was just her puppet since then. Either way Moriarty was pretty much destroyed as interesting and effective villain in the show, because a) he either was hypnotized by Eurus, made into her puppet and lost any personal agenda or free will since then; or b) he wasn’t hypnotized by Eurus, remained himself but was just really unhinged, mad dude, whose unpredictability didn’t seem like a result of his great intellect or scheming or an act, but rather a result of him being a psycho, who wanted badly to kill himself, also hoping that Sherlock would ~ probably~ kill himself as well—and if Sherlock doesn’t kill himself, hey, no biggie, he got those great choo-choo videos for Eurus which she could use against Sherlock, though Moriarty wouldn’t be able to see this anyway, because he will be dead by then. But surely choo-choo videos will work! Surely the world's only consulting criminal could always count on choo-choo videos! Great plan! 2) The problem with women

I already talked once about how Mofftiss treat female characters on the shows and the short answer is: they treat them pretty awful as they pretend to write “strong female characters” while basically doing “Feminism for Dummies: The Male Edition”.

According to Mofftiss strong female characters mean mostly villainous, dubious, criminal, weaponized psychopaths.

---Irene Adler – twisted rewritten version of ACD’s Irene Adler, here villainized cruel sex worker and blackmailer, who is told what to do by male villain, because she can’t figure it out on her own, loses to Sherlock because she fell for him and later is saved by him. Moffat literally described Irene as psychopath, in fact he describes Sherlock as one as well, saying: ”He's a psychopath, so is she”.

Moffat also considers ACD’s Irene boring, saying: “In the original, Irene Adler's victory over Sherlock Holmes was to move house and run away with her husband. That's not a feminist victory." Moffat is a very big fan of ACD’s stories according to Moffat. No comments here. ---Eurus “Ebony Dark'ness Dementia” Holmes – OC, secret sister genius with super powers, who killed a child while she herself was a child, tortured her brother Sherlock and has been put to medical facility- prison for life (where she continued to torture and kill people, and even rape them-well, there was one case at least. She also was able to leave prison at her will and kill people outside). A total psycopath, who fixed her multi-talents on playing some evil games with Sherlock. Turned out to be so, so very needy, that the only thing she really wants is a hug from Sherlock, cause she loses the minute he hugs her. Obviously Mofftiss tried to build her as this greatest villain on the show who ever villain, but it didn’t work out. --Mary Watson – practically an OC, since Mofftiss so heavily rewrote her, that she doesn’t resemble Mary Morstan from ACD’s canon. Even her real name is not really Mary Morstan here, she borrowed it from the grave slab of another person. She is ex-assassin who was murdering people for cash, but retired now, who lies and hides her past from everybody, then she shoots Sherlock almost killing him for good, in order to cover up the fact that she came to kill her blackmailer and Sherlock discovered her. Then Mofftiss make a big point that her main agenda in show is really a new life with a husband she loves and their baby (Mary shoots Sherlock while already being pregnant). Then Mary leaves her husband and little baby girl (the girl given to Mary by Mofftiss in the show, she doesn’t exist in ACD’s canon) when somebody hunts her ex-fellow assassins (yep, they still out there or some of them). Then she is tracked down and returns, but then she is killed off because she jumped in front of the bullet meant for Sherlock leaving her baby girl without the mother and her husband as widower. Bye bye Mary’s agenda, it has been destroyed. (Also what an insult to professional mercenary getting killed by some institutional secretary, honestly). Then it turns out Mary recorded some weird ass DVDs which are now regularly sent to Sherlock and John, and while she makes some kitch speeches there she barely remembers about existence of her baby daughter, if at all. In the process we find out that John, while Mary was still alive, was already heavily flirting with another woman (it was Eurus “Ebony Dark'ness” in disguise) and really wanted to cheat on Mary. Oh, and Amanda Abbington herself described Mary as psychopath. --A small shout out to those Victorian ladies from TAB’s Mind Palace - they formed a secret sect in order to kill men, had creepy secret meetings and basically were an underground murder club on the loose, even were referred to as “league of furies” at one point. Oh look, women are again portrayed as vile, criminal and agressive entities, with attached aesthetic of KKK. Straw feminism is strong with these ones. --Ok, let’s remember Molly Hooper, she is not a psychopath, she is not villainous, she is not a criminal, she is a nice, smart, normal, kind young working woman. At long last something different, right? Real potential? Ehm, nope, Mofftiss still ruined it. Because she is kept in the show as a female character with a deep desperate unrequired crush on Sherlock who is ready to do a lot for him, but repeatedly mistreated by the object of her affections. Sherlock humiliates, manipulates and abuses her emotionally several times during the show, when it gets better between them, but Mofftiss make sure that poor Molly still can’t have personal life outside of Sherlock, her new BF/fiance Tom ins S3 is a poor copy of Sherlock, he even dresses like him (probably it was done for laughs in the show “ha ha, poor Molly, got replacement goldfish, can’t really move on” only it wasn’t really funny), but they broke up by the end of S3. Then Molly is pushed aside for most of S4, and then there is that famous “I love you” scene, which deeply hurts Molly and makes her cry.....the scene, which according to Mofftiss was a last-minute addition to the script and was not about Molly or her relationships with Sherlock at all, but only about Sherlock and his emotional development and how he is more human now. Molly was simply used by Mofftiss as show-case of Sherlock’s manpain. There was no resolution to this scene and Moffat simply said that Molly would get over it, by having a drink and shagging someone. That’s...deep. Not.

It really makes you wonder what’s Mofftiss’s problem with women and why writing for female characters on the show is such a trainwreck? Well, according to Moffat: --“The original [Sir Arthur Conan Doyle] stories had a huge female following, which I'd never forgotten, and that's because the Victorian ladies liked the way Sherlock looked. (Laughs.) So I thought, use this massively exciting, rather handsome man who could see right through your heart and have no interest ... of course, he's going to be a sex god! I think we pitched that character right. I think our female fan base all believe that they'll be the one to melt that glacier. They're all wrong -- nothing will melt that glacier.” --"Women are needy. Women are out there hunting for husbands." Also his understanding of pregnancy and motherhood “Your wife turns into a boat, and shortly after that, you never sleep again and you clean shit off someone. It doesn’t seem like a very appealing prospect”. Also the infamous “There’s a huge, unfortunate lack of respect for anything male.” I guess all of it sort of explains why Mofftiss write women that way. To be continued...

To quote a saying that the Facebook group Weird Secondhand Finds lives by, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Their hauls, taken variously from thrift stores, yard sales, and relatives’ closets that haven’t been cleaned in decades, prove that among the items that people decided they didn’t need are some seriously fascinating creations. Sometimes you can even find incredibly valuable and educational artifacts that you won’t believe somebody let slip away.

In summer 2019, somebody found a pencil drawing of a nude girl composed of distinctively warped lines in a Habitat for Humanity thrift store in New York City. Suspecting that it was drawn by Egon Schiele, he contacted a scholar of the artist’s work, who was surprised to find that it was genuine upon analyzing the materials and comparing it with a sequence of Schiele’s drawings.

The newly discovered Schiele piece was determined to be from 1918 and was valued at $100,000 to $200,000. The gallery that the observant thrift store buyer brought it to confirmed that a portion of the proceeds from selling it would be donated to Habitat for Humanity, the charity that the thrift store benefits.

2015, I found this lovely and large portrait in a local 2nd hand story.

The card on it really caught my attention.

I’m very familiar with Manazanar, the former WW II U.S. interment camp for Japanese American residents and citizens.

My grandfather was a farmer in coastal San Diego county and some of his fellow farmers were Japanese. At the time of the war, only US born Japanese Americans could buy land for farming. My grandfather stored their belongings when his neighbors were sent away. Many others, including churches also stored internees personal possessions.

I had a feeling that this portrait might have been stored for a family and for some reason, they had not recovered it.

A few calls and emails, I was able to get help from the ranger at Manzanar.

Although Itoko was a newlywed when she arrived at Manzanar with her husband, parents and in-laws, the ranger was able to connect me with her nephew Fred who lives in San Diego, not far from me.

He told me that they had never returned to their home in Pacific Palisades and instead relocated to San Diego where they farmed celery. She and her husband never had children and Nephew Fred took care of them in their older years.

Most amazing of all! Itoko was still alive! She was in a nursing home and has memory issues but she recognized her portrait immediately. She told Fred that it was her and that it hung in her bedroom when she was a child.

#37 I See Your Tiny Pets With Mini Furniture- I Give You “My Giant Hare On A Victorian Chair!”

I found this Victorian chair at a thrift store and decided quickly I couldn’t live without it! It’s antique velvet with carved wood.

This is my Flemish Giant Rabbit, Leroux, aka Big Bun. He sadly passed away last year at the age of 9. He was about 19 lbs. and such a character! (Picture on the left for size comparison). He lived everywhere with me including downtown Chicago! He was my world.

Big Bun was always a house rabbit. He even had his own room (included in the photos)! He lived a little longer than normal (lifespan is 7 years or so.) I fed him the best of the best food (Oxbow brand) with plenty of Timothy hay, fresh veggies, and digestive tablets. He was litter box trained and never had accidents in the house. He loved to snuggle and would watch tv with me! Flemish Giants are a wonderful breed of rabbit and make fantastic pets!

I included a picture of him with his dog brothers and my favorite photo of him in his Christmas bow tie. He was always a legend.

#38 Found At A Thrift Store On Whidbey Island, WA -This Old Battered Book Caught My Eye Because It Looked Like It Fell Off A Pirate Ship

Upon further inspection, I found it was a Mark Twain, first edition, printed in 1883 which makes it 137 years old. I bought it for $5

It is a delicate old thing. The pages are chipping with age, and like all secondhand finds, I wonder about its history. How did it get from Little Rock, AR (per the handwriting) to a little island in the Pacific Northwest? Who’s hands have touched it over the course of 100+ years? At one point it rolled out of a printing press into a world that still utilized horse-drawn carriages. I’m unsure of its value, but I treasure this battered old book and will continue to keep it safe

I paid $20 and struggled to fit it into the back of my car as it is about 30.5" x 42", catching the pieces as they fell out along the way. I took this beauty to Fogal glassworks in Chambersburg, PA to be repaired. I spent $320 on the repairs and was informed by the shop that if I wanted this piece made from scratch today it would cost over $1500. I am so glad I could save this beautiful piece of art

#56 From The Ages Of 3-7, I Modeled For The Nearby Theme Parks, Including Walt Disney World. Fast Forward 30 Years - Someone Was Selling The Print And The Photographers Sketch Of My Very Ad On eBay

I grew up in central Florida and from the ages of 3-7, I modeled for, among others, the nearby theme parks, including Walt Disney World. I did several different ad campaigns for them, but one I did with Snow White was by far my favorite memory, maybe of my entire childhood. During the shoot, she sat me down and interacted with me in character and told me about her dwarves and other Disney friends of hers. I was enamored, never once occurred to me this was not the real snow white sitting with me. This ad was displayed in the parks and ran in several magazines etc

Fast forward 30 years-- I often think of these modeling days with great fondness since it was such a bright spot on an otherwise difficult childhood, and one day last month I decided to google the tagline of the ad to see if there was a chance there was an image of it somewhere online

Lo and behold-- someone was selling the print and the photographers sketch of my very ad on eBay! I had no idea a concept sketch even existed, and cannot believe I came across it through a quick google search of the ad

A family member purchased it for me as a Christmas gift and along with the dress that I still have in my closet, it is the most treasured possession I own! (photo of the original dress included, which I have owned since the shoot)

She put a sticker on it saying it's from the 60's but the booklets that came with it state that this is kit no. 10 which was produced in 1947. According to research done in oak ridge, Tennessee, in mid to late 1947, porter chemical company produced laboratory kits for children that included an atomic energy component. Initially, they produced two kits. The no. 10 kit and the no. 25 kit. It's not in the greatest shape and I'm sure there are items missing, but I worked at a uranium enrichment plant for years so I had to have it

I bought this all together as a set, 12 years ago when I was 19 at the Saint Vincent de Paul in Arcata, CA. I saw the plate sticking out of a box and was delighted as I kept unwrapping more pieces from a newspaper filled box! I didn't even have a car or permanent home at the time but I bought the whole set for $30 and strapped it to the back of my bike and rode it back to where I was staying. I moved it around with me until I finally got a place with a kitchen of my own. It's graced every kitchen I've had since, and really makes my house feel like a home

So I found a giant bag of them and didn’t really examine them closely. I bought them and tossed them in the trunk and went grocery shopping. Later that night I was rolling the bag around and could not believe what I was seeing! There was a stamper in there with my dads name on it!! I knew at this very moment that it was going to be okay and that I didn’t need to be sad. I have never found anything with my dads name on it really anywhere especially in a thrift store.

#206 In The Late 70s I Was Given My Maternal Grandmother’s Cedar Chest, Which Had Been A Gift To Her From My Grandfather. When My Mom Died In Late 2016, I Inherited My Grandmother’s Photo Albums

One day I was looking through one of the albums and pulled out a photo, and found a folded up piece of paper behind it. It was part of a love letter from my grandfather to my grandmother about why he was giving her the cedar chest. My mom never even knew about the letter. I only knew my grandparents as seniors with a complicated and sometimes contentious marriage, so this glimpse into their love story is very special.

In case you can’t read the note, it says (complete with his original inconsistent punctuation, spelling and capitalization): “And now, Dearheart I come to that which has been in my mind for weeks my Christmas gift for you. I wanted it to be something of ineffable beauty with that quality which so like you, will gain in preciousness as the years roll by. I wanted it to be something you would admire and use reminiscently, in after years joyfully, in the Dream days of Now. And whose age-old traditions would serve only to enchance its value in your eyes. And so I have sent you guess what? Something I have felt you would want for your very own. Something wholly in keeping with those dainty possessions which will find sanctuary within. Something whose lasting and protective fragrance I ask you to accept as a token of my own tender devotion...A cedar chest.”

I put it in a document protector and attached it under the lid along with a photo of my grandparents from around the time that letter would have been written. I’ve always loved the cedar chest but having the letter makes it even more special. I wish the letter had been complete with his signature, and in better condition.

#214 I Present You With This 9’1” Solid Wood Credenza That Was Originally Designed For One Of The Creators Of “The Honeymooners”, For His Home In The Trousdale Estates (A Neighborhood In Beverly Hills)

I bought it about 10 years ago from his wife’s estate. Our house is a Spanish/Mediterranean and I love its moorish styled cabinet doors and drawers. It’s finished beautifully on its back, so it can be used as a floater/divider in large open spaces. It was for his dining room. The drawers are felt lined and sectioned for silverware (we use them for dvds and gaming accessories). The cabinets are finished inside and have their original linen to provide privacy for stored items. We’ve resisted placing items inside that would cause us to drill out the back (hence, the electronic items on top). I was told by his family that this piece was part of many cool gatherings/parties with the rat pack in attendance. The old owner worked closely with Jackie Gleason, Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Frank Sinatra and so many others. I purchased this for $100. We have an unusually long wall in our family room and this piece works perfectly in it. It is cherished by us and hope at some point to see photos with it from those amazing gatherings.

A few extra facts. It is in one, heavy piece that does not come apart. Moving was done by a professional that I happily paid. The cabinet low price is possibly a reflection of that time period, the economy was still very much in recovery and estate sales seem to have a lot to move but few actual buyers, at least from my experience at that time. Just grateful that the stars aligned for us with this piece. We are a board game family and keep a variety stored in the roomy cabinets. I didn't negotiate on price, it was offered as such. We love the piece and it has been the center of many gatherings here, so I think the vibes are good ones.
