what i think each MHA 1A student would do in a quirkless society

midoriya: nurse. oh my god i saw a fanart of nurse deku forever ago and it was fine asf. but anyways. i think he would still have the desire to help people and save them, but not wanna go running head first into buildings. so, he decides to use his head and hands instead. i could also see emt since it’s still a little dangerous for his adrenaline junkie ass without almost burning alive.

bakugo: i can’t explain why but quirkless AU bakugo to me is always a firefighter 🤷. i think he is a junkie when it comes to danger and saving people is just engrained in him so, even without a quirk, he would still wanna do something whether military or police service.

todoroki: i’m gonna say family business. but he runs it the exact opposite of his old man just to piss him off.

kirishima: public service of some kind. i’m stuck between police officer or a firefighter cuz i could see both. on one hand, i could see him running head fire into fires with bakugo being each others partners and saving each other left and right since he’s the only one that can put up with him. but i can also see him as the police officer of an area. like the one that everyone loves and treats with respect. so much so that even the gangsters and drug dealers are like “hey sir, how’s your day been” because kiri wasn’t disrespect even when arresting them.

denki: i'm gonna say electronical engineer. he might act stupid but he managed to pass the UA written exam just like the other members of UA so clearly there is a brain up there. Having said that, electronics were something he always thought were cool and he started messing around with them as a kid and it stuck.

sero: i feel like he would LEGALLY sell marijuana. like he would have a license to and would sell edible snacks as well as marijuana straight. he just gives me hippie-ish "the world is less shitty when your high" vibes so he sells good quality weed so people get blissed.

iida: i think his family business would be something tech based instead of heroing. i still think they would make bank from it tho. and the family business would make him feel obligated to follow it.

aoyama: model. enough said.

uraraka: probably join the family construction company “temporarily” but then always come up with an excuse to why she needs to stay. “well, __ is gonna be on a 1 week vacation so, i’ll put in my notice after they’re back” “well, now it’s close to *insert holiday* so i better stay and help get the projects done faster” and on and on.

momo: design. whether fashion, interior design, architecture. something with design tho. she likes being able to create things from scratch. enjoys watching what she can turn things into.

jirou: musician. specifically vocalist and guitarist for a indie rock / alternative rock band.

ojiro: i feel like he would totally have a therapy office where you talk about your feelings while doing yoga 😂. his reason is it helps align your body and your mind.

tsu: i feel like she would be one of those people that study plants and creatures in their native habitats. but she would exclusively work with ponds, rivers and streams and has a deep love and interest/fascination with frogs.

mina: model. i think she would start as a model for a fitness brand and would gradually move over to being a diverse model as her career grows.

hagakure: kindergarden teacher for some reason. i can't explain why. it just seems right in my brain.

satou: baker. like come on.

tokoyami: musician. specifically guitarist for a rock / metal band. it just… fits.

koda: something to do with animals. whether that’s working at a zoo or traveling the world studying animals.

shouji: cop. he's really good at spacial awareness and protecting his partners. plus he has really fast reflexes.

half in and half out of the light by gangnamstiles (Kirishima gets discharged from the army, but he’s got a lot of scars left from his time there, Bakugo’s a rock throught it all, and so are their friends. They were a band before adulting, and now they’re tryna put it back together. It’s really emotional and good)

Worth a Thousand Words by awareoftheconcept (Kirishima thinks Bakugo is dating Camie and jealousy ensues but their friendship is so sweet it don’t really matter, plus they make it in the end. Did i say the way their friendship is portrayed is everything? They just REALLY love each other. I love this fic with my whole heart)

Out of the Slipstream by Ashii Black (ashiiblack) (and AU where th boys are professional cyclists and this Bakugo’s really hot and also they soft with some jelly Bakugo, very good. E rated)

In the Dark of the Night by arxaris (Katsuki’s the emperor of rome and Kirishima’s a Gladiator that catches his eyes. It’s a sort of fwb that evolves into something more because these boys can’t resist each other. It’s sweet and hot, very good all around.)

I haven't read most of your fics yet but I was wondering what your own personal headcanons are for modern AU Kirishima jobs. I personally tend to imagine him as either fire fighter or child psychologist (might be random but I think he could relate to kids due to his own past AND I'm probably projecting a lot since I have my masters in Social Work hehe). <3

Ooo this is so fun!

Hmm, I could totally see the firefighter one and even him working with children in some fashion (cause he's so good with Eri-chan!) I could also see him as a personal trainer of some kind, or even physical therapy as well - both very manly professions, and he loves his dumbbells! 😁

Izuku: I feel that Izuku, with his passion for knowledge and for saving lives, would probably end up being an EMT. His willingness to hop into dangerous situations would make him a formidable, if not reckless, first responder.

Katsuki: Katsuki would definitely be a police officer I feel like. He's got this superiority complex and this need to be better than everyone around him. Being a person of the law would let him help people while remaining authorative.

Shoto: Shoto would probably have been born into acting or something of that sort. Corresponding with his backstory, him being a child actor forced into certain roles would make sense, and him breaking out and venturing into new genres would fit.

Aoyama: I feel Yuga would definitely be a fashion designer or beauty guru online. He seems like the type to become youtube famous for having such a unique and funny personality. There's no doubt he has certain specialties he could push out into the world.

Mina: Mina would be a dancer. Broadway, backup at concerts, center stage— you name it. Her creative passion and ability to choreograph in the actual show would definitely support this!

Tsuyu: Tsu would be a biologist specializing in animals you might find in a bog. Snakes, frogs, turtles, alligators, and things like that. I feel she'd do a lot of environmental studies and experiment with the different bacterias in an ecosystem to make sure they remained balanced.

Tenya: Tenya seems like a teacher or professor. His strict nature and ability to take hold of a room tells me he'd do good directing others and teaching them. He'd definitely dedicate himself to his students and to keeping up with the workload.

Uraraka: Ochako would be a lawyer that specialized in defending children. Her kind nature would make her good at it, and her boldness and will when faced with a challenge would drive her forward in the harder times. Her wish to support herself and her family would definitely push her to work hard at her job and help others.

Ojiro: Martial arts for sure. He'd be living up in some temple mastering several techniques and possibly utilizing them in live tournaments. With his swiftness and ability to think on his feet, he'd do great.

Kaminari: Denki would be a DJ that organized events. He's not the most booksmart but I think if he were faced with putting together a killer party, he'd out-due anyone else who dared try. He could definitely make a business out of it.

Kirishima: Eijiro would be a professional bodybuilder and firefighter. His constant talk of manliness and the way he works himself to death supports that he'd be willing to commit to both of these at the same time. He loves to save people and is a lot smarter than he's given credit for.

Koda: Koji would be an animal rehabilitator. His love for animals and shy composure proves he'd probably feel more comfortable working primarily with wildlife rather than tons of other people.

Sato: Rikido would be a professional baker for obvious reasons. Baking is a passion of his and he's already great at it in canon. I feel he'd also have a huge social media gig going on that supported body positivity and going on diets that still included sugar and things people enjoy.

Shoji: Mezo would be a therapist for youth. He's quiet, soft-mannered, and a great listener. He always protects his classmates and has a huge heart. His ability to feel such strong empathy would work well with kids and teens in need of help.

Jiro: Kyoka would be a singer and a songwriter who toured the world and threw killer concerts. Her casual confidence and strong voice would draw in fans in droves, and her talent with the guitar would only boost that. There's no question that she'd be famous.

Tokoyami: Fumikage would without a doubt own an obscure little mystery store in a small town that tourists drove miles just to see. Wiccan oddities, cryptid apparel, and a variety of gothic jewelry. Maybe some records too. He'd flourish in a setting like that.

Mineta: Minoru would be in ✨jail✨

Momo: Yaoyorozu would be the rich heir of some huge company specializing in oil and stocks. She'd probably run a tea business on the side and open a chain of dainty little cafes that she'd work hard to manage herself.

Hagakure: Toru would be a make-up artist. I don't know why it fits her vibe so well, but it does. Possibly feeling unseen, she might make it her life's passion to make others and herself more noticeable. There had to be times when she didn't feel pretty. I bet she would've easily decided that she didn't want herself or anyone else to ever feel that again

come @ me bro by SportsAnimeRuinedMyLife (KnightOfRage) (7k, Teen+) Same author as above, but a much fluffier and funnier. Bakugou is forced to work at a convenience store. Of note: it’s part of a series that’s all really good, but this is the only part that’s Kiribaku-centric.

close the door on your way out by xShieru (7k, Teen+) Goddamn I love a good coffee shop AU and this is indeed a good coffee shop AU. Bakugou is a long-suffering employee and Kirishima is a flirty customer. Shenanigans ensue.

Burn Like the Sun by Kivea (48k, not rated) Well written slow burn where Kirishima and Bakugou are firefighters at the same station. Good stuff!

the sunshine people by dellsey (12k, Teen+) One of my all time favorite fluff fics! Kirishima is a too-enthusiastic zumba instructor at the gym Uraraka goes to and Bakugou is her less-than-enthusiastic roommate.

tour en l’air by oredatte (99k, Teen+) Trans Bakugou fic where Bakugou is a ballet dancer who messes up his leg and Kirishima is his physical therapist. That’s more the background set up though, as most of the fic is really just about Bakugou dealing with a lot of psychological and self-esteem issues and Kirishima inducts him into his friend group. (And of course they fall in love along the way.)

Heartbeat Thunder by Shippeh (95k, Explicit) A/B/O with a good helping of angst and coming-of-age type drama. Kirishima is scared of his own alpha nature and Bakugou is overly secure in his omega nature. The two figure things out together.

Overworked & Underfucked by Kumikirin (12k, Explicit) “Just bros helping bros.” A First Time fic with feelings.

No Secrets to Success by kingdoms (7.5k, Teen+) Suuuuper cute fic where Kirishima isn’t able to go to UA immediately, but he runs into Bakugou by chance and manages not only to convince him to tutor him, but also to become his friend.

In the Kingdom on the Sea series by deviance (17k, Explicit) A four part series, but not too long. Bakugou is a pirate and Kirishima is a mermaid, trying to find ways to be together. Lots of longing.

you looked at me by shizuumi151 (8.9k, Explicit) Queer kids having fun at a college party!!

be gentle, bro by shizuumi151 (4.7k, Explicit) Canon compliant first time fic. Soft smut.

when a rock and a hard place love each other very much... by shizuumi151 (16k, Teen+) Super cute and funny! Kaminari gets stuck as the middleman listening to both Kirishima and Bakugou whine about how in love with each other they are, but neither are willing to confess.

neither rain nor sleet nor all these feels by shizuumi151 (9.7k, Teen+) (Last rec by shizuumi151, but all their fics are generally really cute!) Kirishima is a mailman with deliveries for Bakugou (not an innuendo) but he gets super flustered by how good looking Bakugou is. Meanwhile, Bakugou tries to come up with ways to get the cute mailman to keep making deliveries.

Quietly by chezka (22k, General Audiences) Canon compliant friends to lovers full of lots of soft moments.

The Best Medicine by chezka (14k, General Audiences) Fluff, maybe a smidge of hurt/comfort? Essentially: Kirishima gets jealous when Bakugou starts to relax and open up to others.

the fool’s rush by chonideno (40k, Teen+) Domestic, pining, slow burn, and all that good stuff. Chonideno’s writing style is particularly beautiful as well.

It Will Find You Here by arxaris (33k, Explicit) Set in Thailand, Bakugou’s a backpacker whose life is falling apart and Kirishima is his Airbnb host who helps him pick up the pieces. I may or may not have booked a plane ticket to Thailand the day after I read this fic.

Freshly Ground Coffee by arxaris (19k, Teen+) Another coffee shop AU! Bakugou is still a pro-hero, but Kirishima is just a barista, and a bit of a fanboy, but since Bakugou always goes to the shop incognito, Kirishima has no idea who he is. Pining and angst due to misunderstandings.

Slow to Start (But Quick to Burn) by mousapelli (29k, Explicit) This was the first ABO fic I read for Kiribaku! Bakugou is an omega but is always told he’s too loud/angry/etc. Kirishima is an alpha who likes him just fine.

Fandom by PullingAllMighters and SweetBrew (9.8k, Mature) An AU where Kirishima doesn’t go to UA, so he and Bakugou don’t know about each other until after they become pro-heroes, and they both become a little obsessed with the other before ever even meeting.

The Truth is Out by Maplefudge (4.6k, Teen+) Kirishima gets hit by a truth quirk. Classic!

Tonight, We’re the Sea by idratherhaveyou (60k, Mature) A slow burn hurt/comfort fic where Kirishima goes to a sleepy seaside town to take care of his grandmother. There he meets struggling artist Bakugou.

take your broken wings and fly by bwyn (11k, Teen+) A different kind of fantasy AU. Kirishima is kind of a god and Bakugou is not really a demon.

Moment of Truth by Fanficismything (104k, Mature) A fake dating AU based on the movie The Proposal.

Two is Better than One? by Obsessed_As_A_Coping_Mechanism (6k, Explicit) ABO fic where due to a quirk, there are now two Alpha Kirishimas and Bakugou is about to go into heat.

breakfast, lunch, dinner series by afuzzyowl (14k, Explicit) Another ABO series. The first two fics are pretty light and soft, but in the third Kirishima goes into rut.

The Lost Continent by cattchi and paglykos (98k, Explicit) Kirishima is from a noble family and is kidnapped by pirate Bakugou. Enemies to lovers adventure fic.

Against All Odds, Thriving by jettiebettie (12k, Teen+) The class is given a photography assignment, and what Bakugou isn’t ready to face what he captured on camera. Interestingly, Shiozaki Ibara also plays a pretty big role in this one.

I See the Spine of the World by Lulatic (9k, Teen+) I just really love the setting of this AU. It’s a futuristic, kinda steampunk world? Streetracing and government corruption and all that good stuff. I only wish it was longer.

wild blood by qactus (7k, Teen+) Domestic street racer boys.

Kiss your knuckles before you punch me by Claus_Lucas (11k, Teen+) Bakugou is kind of a delinquent and Kirishima is an underground street fighter. They both need a bit of healing. Angst, hurt/comfort, friends to lovers.

Everyone Knows That Cats Are Independent by PurplePersnickety (39k, Teen+) Interesting world where people each have their own daemon, and the writing is just overall super sweet and fluffy. This is a fic I come back to when I’m having a bad day and just want soft boys trying to flirt.

It's holiday season at the mall. Shouto spends this year the same way he always does: he cashes out the nice old lady Chiyo for her yarn, he exchanges the nice gentleman's order for the correct size of needle, and he sees his old classmates come in and out of the store. It's a small town, so it's not that surprising that he sees the people he went to school with even five years after graduating.

Shouto almost counts down the days each week until he sees Izuku Midoriya walk into the building in his standard issue fireman's jacket. It's been every Tuesday afternoon, consistently, for the past month. Like clockwork. He comes in, stares at the plushies and the children's blankets, and scratches his chin for about ten minutes before he leaves without buying anything.

AUgust Day 17 - Firefighters

BakuDeku from Boku no Hero Academia

It all began after Ground Zero had SAVED a bunch of CHILDREN from a villain. The whole block was on fire, but everyone was safely evacuated, the villain was captured, and Bakugo had even grit his teeth and been nice to the kids. Since his PR rep was constantly breathing down his neck to thank the plebeians for their work, Bakugo was GRACIOUSLY walking over to the firefighters who showed on the scene to THANK them for their work.

Before he could get a word out, he was blasted with a fire hose.

The little shit who’d done it was short, muscle bulking through his arms, green haired, and carrying what looked like a backpack attached to a one-man fire hose. It reminded Bakugo of hero support tech, though he wasn’t sure how a common firefighter had managed to get his grubby hands on such things. Not that Bakugo had a lot of time to think about it. He kept getting sprayed.

Every time he tried to fight his way through, he’d get knocked back by the force of the water. He was already exhausted from the fight, and the little shit was way too good with that thing. When Bakugo was finally on hands and knees, gasping for breath and hacking up water, glaring daggers at the whole team who was gaping in shock, the uppity firefighter spoke.

The guy’s name was Midoriya, and he had a lot to say about Bakugo leaving fires everywhere. He went on this long rant about how Endeavor and his son had actual fire powers and still managed to keep things under control. How come Bakugo left a path of destruction bigger than most villains? Midoriya also launched into a long list of examples, shoving Bakugo’s history in his face.

Nobody had ever talked to Bakugo like that, not even his beleaguered PR rep. On the one hand, he was impressed. On the other, he wanted to pop the guy’s head off.

He couldn’t, however. He was supposed to be revamping his image in order to stop from backsliding down the hero rankings any further. Unable to attack the firefighters or say anything in his own defense considering all of what was being shouted at him was true, Bakugo simply left. It was the most bitter defeat he’d ever suffered, but he wasn’t one to stay down.

If some average schmuck could have hero support equipment made to fight fire, so could Bakugo. He called in a favor from an old UA classmate that night. In only a few days time, he had a new belt full of badass looking grenades. They fit his aesthetic and scared the shit out of villains that knew him when he pulled the pin. They were, however, made to spray some anti-flammable shit everywhere. He’d toss one over his shoulder if he noticed too many things smoking or burning as he blasted by.

It was inevitable that Bakugo’d run into that damn firefighter again. Midoriya had the gall to look impressed at Bakugo’s grenades. However, that look didn’t last long. Instead, he was frowning at the building they were in. Bakugo was checking the place for anyone left inside that may have been knocked out due to the battle. The firefighters were there to check through rubble and drench anything left burning. (Bakugo had become aware that firefighters were called to all of his battles even before they ended. They just ASSUMED. The bastards.)

About the time Bakugo was demanding if his grenades weren’t good enough, Midoriya was shouting for everyone to evacuate the building. Apparently, the villain had taken out one too many support beams. Bakugo did a quick sweep of the building but found nobody else inside. When he blasted from one of the windows, he noticed Midoriya running to another building with a loud speaker. Shit. The building was going to crash into the one across the street.

The half and half bastard showed up in time to ice the building into place, though he had to keep his focus on it since the weight so much cement kept shattering his efforts. Bakugo followed Midoriya’s instructions, reliant on the firefighter’s expertise on which buildings needed to be evacuated. It took an hour, and the end result was three buildings demolished, but there were no casualties. Bakugo’s PR rep was in tears from relief and joy.

A week later, both Bakugo AND Midoriya were on a platform being commended for their bravery and actions saving so many lives. That was when Bakugo learned that Midoriya was quirkless. The media was exceedingly happy to point that out constantly, as if the guy was somehow crippled and it was a miracle he could work at all. Bakugo wasn’t sure how to feel about that considering he’d acted the same way once upon a time. Then again, adults in the media shouldn’t be holding the same world views as punk teens in middle school.

Midoriya took it a lot better, seemingly used to it. Bakugo swallowed down the comments he wanted to make considering how many cameras were pointed at him and shook Midoriya’s hand, forcing himself to do the photo op after with an arm around Midoriya’s surprisingly wide shoulders. Midoriya made a speech about being thankful for heroes. Bakugo made a speech about the hard work of people like police and firefighters. It was an exhausting day.

A week later, Bakugo’s PR rep was having a hayday with how much people loved Bakugo and Midoriya together and how it had spiked Bakugo’s previously shitty public approval rating. He should have known what was coming next. Bakugo would now have to be seen acting like him and Midoriya were FRIENDS, which meant going out drinking with Midoriya’s team or attending the AU sports festival together. Bakugo hated that this was a part of “being a hero” according to PR.

Midoriya, however, was having a blast. Turned out he was a nerd who knew way too many details about every hero there was. At least his favorite was All Might. It meant he had taste, and there was something for Bakugo to talk about.

However, the more they spent time together, the more Bakugo remembered things he shouldn’t be. It had been a long time since he’d let anyone get too close to him. He’d even cut ties with Kirishima, afraid of how much worse things would get. But now, Midoriya was forced to be in Bakugo’s orbit, slowly cutting through the flimsy walls Bakugo kept around himself, walls he’d thought were unbreakable. He must have been fooling himself all this time.

You see, as far as Bakugo was concerned, it was better to be alone forever than to let anyone know he was gay. After all, his approval ratings were low enough. So low that pretending to be friends with a quirkless extra was pulling him up through the ranks. How was he supposed to be the number one hero if people discovered he was gay?

How would he be able to shut Midoriya up if he ever found out?

Things went from bad to worse when Bakugo was forced yet again to spend time with Midoriya’s team. They were at a bar drinking when some nosy guy ended up all over Midoriya. Bakugo kept waiting for the disgust, the anger, the solid refusal, but Midoriya played nice. When the guy pulled Midoriya aside and asked for a date, Midoriya was polite and said his work kept him too busy. When the guy left, Bakugo turned on Midoriya.

Why? Why wasn’t he bothered? Why hadn’t he just said “I’m straight”? Why was he still so damn nice about it instead of insulting the guy? Why was he mad at Bakugo for asking these perfectly relevant questions?

Bakugo wasn’t sure at what point in the argument it happened, but he was suddenly kissing Midoriya, pressed up against the wall in a corner nobody could see. Bakugo grabbed Midoriya’s ass, waiting to be pushed away, but instead, Midoriya wrapped his legs around Bakugo’s waist. When Bakugo ground his erection against Midoriya’s crotch, he wasn’t shunned for it. Instead, Midoriya reached between them and pulled out their cocks, jerking them off with single-minded determination.

When it was all over, Bakugo was on his knees with Midoriya in his lap. The afterglow didn’t last long. He threatened Midoriya — tell anyone and die. Midoriya just looked at Bakugo with pity, and it was too much to handle. So Bakugo left, determined to put the night behind him, determined to forget the taste of Midoriya’s mouth.

He needed to cut ties, just like he did long ago with Kirishima. It was safer that way, for everyone involved. But as much as Bakugo wanted to run, he couldn’t. Midoriya was everywhere — at work, during PR events, at city meetings, and then, one night, on Bakugo’s doorstep. Damn Midoriya for being so kind, for insisting that they talk, for smelling so good.

Damn him for pushing his way into Bakugo’s apartment.

Damn him for kissing Bakugo with emotion that would ruin both their careers.

Wasn’t Midoriya afraid? Didn’t he care? Why did he keep saying that what was between them could be important? That they could change things? Be heroes in a way the city really needed? Why was this, of all things, making stupid, dangerous Midoriya sound like All Might?

It was inevitable that they ended up in bed together, and the sex made it so much harder to ignore what Bakugo had buried his whole life. Midoriya was patient. No matter how Bakugo screamed and threatened and threw things, Midoriya stayed calm and talked through the fear Bakugo was trying to cover up with rage. Midoriya was kind, too kind, and Bakugo was falling apart.

A month of trying to keep Midoriya at arm’s length and failing passed before things changed for Bakugo. He was doing a PR tour of schools, dealing with brats and shortening his lifespan with each autograph and photo op he did. It was when he took off to the bathroom for a break that he found a collection of bullies, using their quirks on some poor sobbing kid. When Bakugo scared the shit out of them, they justified their actions immediately, pointing at the kid on the ground, accusing him of being gay.

Weak, useless, unwanted, pointless, gross, all words they were using to describe the kid, all words Bakugo had been terrified of hearing for so long now. They mocked the kid for crying and cowering, as if that was all the evidence they needed that they were right.

That was when Bakugo finally understood what Midoriya was trying to say, how Bakugo could make a much bigger difference as a hero than simply being in the number one slot. So Bakugo walked up to the kid on the ground, looked him in the eye, and asked if really WAS gay. The kid, looking utterly defeated, said yes.

“Good. So am I.” And it felt like a weight lifted to finally say it outloud for the first time in his life. He held a hand out to the kid. “Now get up. I’m gonna teach you how to fight.”

And that’s the story of how Bakugo got suspended for a week when multiple students ended up in the hospital. On the upside, there was plenty of time for Midoriya to take him on dates during the time off.
