The Good Place characters and how fast they’d pick up on Dracula
Eleanor: If Eleanor came to Transylvania on a business trip it was definitely a scam on her part to begin with, so her mental transition would be going from “I am scamming this rich old guy” to “Maybe this rich old guy is scamming me?” She’d figure it out, but the question is whether she’d do so before throwing herself headlong into seduction by the vampire brides.
Chidi: On the one hand, Chidi would be desperately trying not to judge Dracula for different cultural customs and be polite to the point of endangering himself. On the other hand, William Jackson Harper said Chidi would have survived Midsommar because he would have bolted the second things started to get weird, so by that logic he might have just frozen in place when the villagers warned him about the castle, panicked about whether it was worse to break his business promises or offend their cultural customs, and not gotten on the carriage.
Tahani: Tahani wants to make a good impression on aristocracy. Tahani is doomed.
Jason: I actually think Jason would figure out that Dracula was bad news pretty quickly, just not necessarily that he was a vampire. He’d start by going everywhere he wasn’t supposed to, learn this dude is some kind of serial killer kingpin, and then when Dracula says “You can go but there are wolves outside!” Jason would say “Sweet, bro!” and go out and get eaten by wolves.

Showdown 2k24 Nominations!
alright, redoing this post now that I can give a concrete start date of Monday the 15th of January!
Nominations for the tournament are open up until the start date, and you can submit anyone who could reasonable be considered a companion, either by sending me an ask or by filling out
this form.
If you make your nomination via the form you can also submit some propaganda to go alongside the poll. Anyone who was considered a regular at any point in the last year will automatically be included, as well as anyone who was in the original tournament (+/- a couple I might miss or misremember as being a regular because I don't have old lists anywhere). The exception to this is last years winner, Rose Tyler, she will not be getting a place in the main tournament, however after the final I will run a poll to see if our new winner can beat her. (oh and also maybe I'll leave the TARDIS out but not fully decided yet)
The tournament is going to be run in the same way I did @adventure-showdown, meaning I'll keep companions from different periods of the show and different mediums segregated at first so the nicher ones don't immediately get knocked out, and slowly get mingled together. The exact details are going to depend on just how may characters get included.
Errm yeah, so go wild, nominate whoever you like (as long as they are a companion). If they are from teh TV show they have to be on this list to qualify, and for EU companions I'm going with them needing a TARDIS wiki page, and also I will give them a quick proof read to make sure they pass, the bar is low but it is there
if you want to submit an alternate version of the character sorry but main version only unless you can give a really good reason, eg regenerations of a time lord
also, if they are primarily from another franchise that'll be a no
The full list of contestents is under the cut and will be updated as nominations come in. Its sorted by medium and then to be alphabetical by first name. if an eu companion exists in multiple mediums i just sort of picked one or I put them under the other category, people who exist in real life are also sorted into their own category. There are some characters under Classic Who/NuWho who were not companions on TV but were in the EU. Companions who's names are in green have had propaganda submitted for them, if they're not in green then they don't, and just because someone has propaganda doesn't mean i wont accept more

I know OC posts generally don’t do well on tumblr, but here’s my little horror OC William in time for Halloween. Lore below
William Harper Jones was born to an alcoholic mother and a father who never knew. When he's ten years old his mother commits suicide and he's sent to live on his aunts farm, his aunt breeds rabbits, little white rabbits and as William comes of age he develops an absolute obsession with these rabbits, he sees them everywhere, he can't get them out of his head. He thinks they know something he doesn't. He goes on to study forensics at a young adult and makes a singular friend in college, she's offput by his fixation but pities him and she's lonely too.
As Williams sanity plunges he decides he needs to do something, while his aunt is away he returns to her farm and kills the rabbits, every single one. As she returns home to find a paddock full of blood, her beloved nephew standing blank eyed on the grass William decides to do something in his far from clear mental state to do something drastic, in fear he kills his aunt, he uses his studies to cover it up perfectly. He discovers that the feeling of doing something like this is the only thing that can make the rabbits go away, just for a while.
He kills two more, a young man hiking in the woods near the farm, and the elderly grandfather of a prominent lawyer based in the nearby town. Once again, he covers them up perfectly. His forensic knowledge only improving as he deletes all his traces. A year passes, he spends much of his time in nature now, but has managed to get a job at a private forensic facility. William needs a fourth body, that will end it all, an even number and the rabbits will leave him alone, but as he seeks out the unlucky man or woman he is greeted by a familiar, yet suddenly unfriendly face. It's his friend from college, she's had a personal project, she knows what he did. It's driving her almost as insane as he is. She isn't thinking straight. The two figures are on the side of a ravine, William with his back to her, he turns around, he shoots.
using the last of her strength Williams former ally pushes him, her body collapsing on the now blood soaked forest floor. William is falling, he sticks his left arm out, his right fingers stuck to his gun as if he can't move them, watching himself hurtle towards the rapids below, he hits the rocks. It all goes black.
William wakes up in hospital, everything hurts. He doesn’t want to move. His brain is foggy, the pain is unbearable. The damage is irreversible. After a lengthy period of time recovering but never quite from his ‘accident’ William returns to work, he will never be who he was before. He's died and been reborn, a new person. The first day he walks into the laboratory, limping, cane in hand and decommissioned arm in sling. He sees a folder on his desk. "K. Jackson, cold case". It’s her. this is his punishment, this is his final show of karma. She will not let him forget
In the end he knows that she would have wanted to punish him, but instead of prison he feels he needs to cover it up and simply live with the guilt of what he did unable to tell anyone, it's just what she would have wanted. And so William becomes a hermit, unsure if he can ever be redeemed.

A Cosmic Hourglass Half-Full: A Spoiler-Filled List of Everything I Appreciated about "Quantumania"
Tumblr media
“So… what’s next… Secret Wars?” As someone whose feelings for the last two Marvel movies can be described as “mixed at best,” I was surprised to find myself uttering these words outside my local Laemmle.
It was 3 pm after a matinee showing of “Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania”, and while I found the movie heavy on the green screen and light on just about everything else, I was already looking forward to reuniting with my college friends for the next entry in ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It was at that moment that it occurred to me: the MCU, for better or for worse, is no longer just a franchise of movies and tv shows. They are cultural events. They are a recurring reason to gather with friends and family, and they give us something to talk about besides climate change and the price of gas. For this reason, attending a Marvel movie is almost like a sporting event. Sometimes, as with the case in Quantumania or Dark World, your team has a bad day. But that doesn’t mean you quit being a fan. It’s just more of a reason to celebrate franchise-defining moments, ala No Way Home or Endgame.
Therefore, in the spirit of optimistic fandom, here is a SPOILER-FILLED LIST OF EVERYTHING TO APPRECIATE ABOUT QUANTUMANIA, in order of appearance. Because yes, we lost this round, but the game definitely had some highlights…
Tumblr media
-Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror-
Simultaneously the movie’s greatest strength and most glaring weakness is the way it left you wanting more from the MCU’s newest big bad. Can an actor nail all his lines, even without things like motivation or context? Apparently, yeah. Majors might not actually have much to do in this movie, but you’ll struggle to take your eyes off him.
-Look Out for the Little Guy-
Scott’s post-Endgame memoir has been a running gag in the MCU for awhile now, but seeing Rudd ham it up in a Barnes n’ Noble is joy in its purest form. If this didn’t make you smile, I think you got the wrong theater…
Tumblr media
-William Jackson Harper as Quaz, the Telepath-
Yeah, I didn’t know that character had a name either. Still, this Good Place alum delivered the laughs with every line. I think we’d all watch a comedy sitcom set in the quantum realm if Harper was the showrunner.
“Like Stuffing a Turkey”
Whatever discomfort we endured watching Michael Douglas double-fist a pair of gummy worms was paid off in perhaps the greatest “I’ll drive” moment in movie history. I’ve never heard an audience cheer for anything stranger.
Tumblr media
All Things M.O.D.O.K.
While Cross’s freakish appearance provided some of the movie’s best visual gags, writer Jeff Loveness also deftly turned Yellowjacket from a D-list villain into one of the most entertaining and memorable characters in the entire MCU. And his death scene? Instant meme material. It was THAT good.
Tumblr media
One in a Million Paul Rudds
-Remember that iconic Infinity War moment when Doctor Strange tells Tony that there is literally a one in 14 million chance that Thanos is defeated? Well apparently there’s also a one in a billion chance that Scott keeps his job at Baskin Robbins and never becomes Ant-Man in the first place. That’s pure comedy.
What about you? Which moments saved the movie for you, if even temporarily?

My Top Posts in 2022:

I know we're supposed to believe that once a character is off Grey's Anatomy, he stops interacting with the other characters, but you can't convince me that April Kepner doesn't regularly talk to Arizona and that they don't do girls weekends in NY or Boston. Or that she doesn't follow Cristina's career and doesn't send her flowers to congratulate her for her professional achievements. And you know she definitely managed to get Alex's address in Kansas and sends him Christmas cards every year. In return, Izzie has added the Averys to her Christmas cards list, and April can gush over how Eli looks just like Alex.

Some Japril headcanons I have
– April's middle name is Elizabeth.
– When they were married, Jackson brought April to a Harper Avery gala, and April impressed Harper, though he never said it.
– When she was back in Moline, April named that pig Jax both because she missed her best friend AND because she was mad at him for not calling.
– Back at Mercy West, it was April who sneaked Catherine Avery in the gallery so she'd be able to watch Jackson's first surgery when they were interns. It was then that their friendship started. She never mentioned it to Jackson.
– April still corresponds with Reed's and Charles' parents and sends them a Christmas card every year, with a quick note. They are not ready to receive the next Christmas card, which features April, Jackson and Harriet in matching pyjamas and equally matching grins.
– Harriet can get almost anything she wants from her dad, because he's a big softie when it comes to her, something that April brings up all the time but not so secretely loves.

My #1 post of 2022
Random thoughts about Grey's 18x20
– Catherine making people eulogize her when she's still alive is such a Catherine move. Kinda wish we could have seen April's speech though, I bet it would have been amazing. Also, Harriet on her grandma's lap, looking at her dad is so precious.
– That scene between Amelia and April was so sweet. Sometimes love comes back around <3 I knew it from that line everything was fine.
– From Sarah's interviews I thought we were going to see April in the ER way more. What a shame to put her in charge of the pit only to close the hospital to trauma right away. Liked her scenes with Ben though.
– I knew we weren't going to have lots of japril scenes, but I wish they spent those scenes delving a bit more into what their life in Boston looks like. Let's say they kept that for the spinoff.
– Harriet on a sugar coma in her stroller is a mood. SO PRECIOUS.
– That elevator scene is everything I wanted and more. The fact that as soon as they stepped into the elevator he looked at her and his eyes never left her <3 Man is still whipped. Now let's release the whole scene!
– I'm a little underwhelmed tbh, even though that's mainly because I didn't lower my expectations, but the episode just left me wanting way, way more. The whole damn thing.

So as of right now who would you cast to play in twilight? And it’s subsequent movies?
You’re making it really difficult for me, anon. This is… well this movie would be ridiculous. You see, I watch very few modern movies. Notice how much of this cast is taken from tumblr, "Little Women", and the MCU.
At least there’s no Ben Barnes.
Alice: Shira Haas
Had to consult a friend for this one.
Shira Haas had her growth stunted by childhood illness, she's a teeny tiny woman. She's the right age too.
Aro: Timothee Chalamet
This one is actually great as far as facecasting goes. Chalamet has the perfect vibe and face for “polite but maniacal ancient, frail-looking over-curious vampire”.
I’m not sure he has the charisma or gravitas needed for the part, I think is Paul in the upcoming Dune movie will tell.
Bella: Freya Allan
She’s very beautiful, the right age, and more importantly she looks delicate and protectable. She nails the vulnerable beauty aesthetic. I think she could pull it off.
Caius: Samuel Jackson, because he’d have so much fun with it. That, and he accepts just about every gig so I might actually get him.
Jackson can put the fear of God into a man and very effectively communicates that he has no time for your nonsense. Caius would be easy as breathing. Also he'd look killer in a white wig.
Carlisle: CGI Henry Cavill
Is he too old, yes, he could be Carlisle's father. Does he look like what I picture from Carlisle, no. But he is insanely good looking, the kind who makes you want to go rethink your life because if you can’t look like that, or have that man’s children, then what’s the point of it all.
His physique fits Carlisle, tall and strong, and he has the charisma for it. He’s one of those who can have no lines in a scene and still be an important part of it.
Besides, in my movie I’d use CGI and a trunkload of makeup on all the actors anyway (we’re assuming I have a ridiculous budget), they’re not supposed to look human.
Edward: I looked up current boy bands, none of the images loaded, then thought about CGI Johnny Depp because my god that man has the range, but then a friend tipped me off to some guy called Finn Wolfhard.
He is the right age, he has very interesting and extreme yet symmetrical features, I don't know if he has the range but he appears to be my best option.
Emmett: Two guys in a coat muscle suit. The one on the top is Tom Holland.
You didn't give me a lot to work with, anon.
CGI and the makeup department will have to bail us out for this one.
Esme: Emma Watson.
She’s not a very good actress, but it’s a small part so she doesn’t have to be. She has the right aesthetic and the right age, I can see her pulling it off.
James: Brad Pitt.
He’d nail it, I’m sure, the guy is a character actor who tragically got lost in the blockbuster scene. I’d be so down for Pitt as James, you people have no idea.
Jane and Alec: Dafne Keen.
She’s amazing, looks the part, and as Alec is a bit part she gets to play both.
Jasper: I’m sobbing, but… Clint Eastwood.
Yes, he’s in his nineties, no I don’t care. No CGI either, just Clint Eastwood as is.
Laurent: William Jackson Harper.
Come to think of it Harper could have made a very compelling Carlisle, but if Carlisle were black he wouldn’t be able to become a doctor in the States in the first place. Twilight would have to be set in another part of the world. It’d be a different story period.
I digress - Harper gets Laurent because he is great at panicking, and that’s really what Laurent has been doing in the face of his life going downhill for the past three hundred years.
Marcus: Margot Robbie.
Look, I have to cast her as somebody in this franchise, but I’m running out of current male actors whose names I know. Robbie is very talented and more, I genuinely think she would relish being swathed in petrified vampire makeup to play this super depressed ancient 19-year-old male vampire.
Mostly I’d cast her to see what she made of the part.
Rosalie: I would have gone Sophie Turner, but she's just not a very good actress. Not good enough for Rosalie, at any rate.
I think I'll say Anya Taylor-Joy instead. I haven't seen her in anything so I can't attest to her talent, but she has the face for the part.
Victoria: Zendaya
I DON’T KNOW A LOT OF CONTEMPORARY ACTRESSES.
Zendaya has a face, she’s an actress, she’s younger than 30. She gets the part. And I do sincerely think she could really look the part. Besides, London has always been a racially mixed city so Victoria doesn't have to be white. Red hair is not an exclusively caucasian trait.
-
All these actors would be slathered in copious amounts of makeup and CGI, and good use of lightning and costumes (think the elves in Lord of the Rings), but yeah, this is... well it's a list. Make of it what you will.

hey andrew!! hoping youre doing great today!! Who are your favorite dark skinned fcs? i need more people to love!
Thank You anon for requesting this list I had fun listing them and I’m glad you asked for it and I am glad I can help you. This list is in no particular order just the ones that came to my head as I went and the ones I had in my gif hunt tag, some of these may be the rpc definition of dark skin which is anyone darker than Michael B. Jordan but I had to put them on this list because the rpc really need to know people darker than Michael B. Jordan exist, cause with the way y’all covet light skin fcs, y'all act like they don’t. I will not put this under a read more. the rpc will look at it and acknowledge that people with darker skin exist and since I got a lot of this list from my gif hunt tag, best believe a majority of them have resources and the rest need resources to be made so you have no excuse not to use this list to your advantage and utilize it. If you’re like Andrew, don’t read the rpc while you’re helping them, that’s rude. I’m telling you, ignoring people with darker skin tones is also rude, so get over it. Y’all can do better. So do better.

so this— is utter and complete nonsense LOL. but hey, we all have our weird ways of playing the sims amirite after figuring out the mechanics and getting all the mods i could to make the notoriously terrible ts4 ai a bit smarter, and play testing the conditions, i will finally finish my crack 3 markus x 1 simon simarkus sims challenge this weekend.
i will post about how the game went (maybe even a video of the highlights?), but now that you've seen our 3 dashing contestants. vote for which markus you think will win here! (or just comment on this post if you don't have a twitter 😆)
also: read the ridiculously detailed rules i made up for this challenge under the cut.
Tumblr media
📋 challenge rules:
1.) they all live in one huge house but i am only allowed to control simon when i want or need to. if sim!simon makes any autonomous decisions, i'll also allow it. but all the markuses' fates are in the hands of bad sims 4 artificial intelligence. if they starve to death cause they can't figure out how to cook, then so be it! 😂 (exceptions being if a markus gets stuck between furniture or build-related items or if he blatantly bugs at some point. i'll simply reset the sim.)
Tumblr media
2.) any romantic or mean interactions simon does to 1 markus, i need to make him do to the other 2 as well for equality.
3.) the first markus to get a full pink romance bar with simon (soulmates status) is the winner! in order to help them along, simon will ask each of them out on 1 date. (to the same restaurant so it's an even playing field.)
Tumblr media
(for those who don't play the sims 4, the friendship bar is the green one and the pink one is the romance bar. they can be developed independently.)
4.) i have the wicked whims mod enabled, attraction settings tuned to match with simon's appearance, and 'random sex interactions' option checked. i can't make simon ask any of them for sex/woohoo, but i'll allow every initiation for it that occurs autonomously and keep up with the stats. note though that wicked whims interactions don't help the relationship bars develop so this won't affect the outcome. this is just to see which markus gets to sleep with simon. this opens up possibilities for markus-on-markus selfcest action so warnings for that! 😂
📌 credits:
markus harper by ryuk-marine in the EA gallery
jesse williams (jackson avery?) sim by eslanes

gameplay mods used: wicked whims | slice of life | passionate romance | autonomous proposals & breakups | better romance | personality please | stoprandomflirting

i’m kinda curious on why you didn’t like chidi and elenor
Well on the one hand, I did not think they had chemistry. I just did not believe them romantically, they are both great actors -- I actually really like Kristen Bell -- and they both did a good job in their roles but together, it was just really flat, I didn’t believe romantic tenderness or intimacy, I didn’t believe the heartbreak or the angst, it even felt cold to me that I would just check out because otherwise I’d get annoyed

An article actually perfectly sums up how I felt about it:
For all of Kristen Bell and William Jackson Harper’s impressive efforts, Chidi and Eleanor simply don’t have the kind of swooning chemistry necessary to make the twists in the story of their romance work. Every time Chidi and Eleanor kissed or declared their love for one another, I was left feeling nothing at all. Or worse yet, annoyed, because the lack of romance serves to highlight how marvelously their chemistry works within a friendship instead.
On the other hand, in season one, there was so much done to build Eleanor and Chidi’s friendship, there was all this development that I could believe, even though I didn’t think it was necessary, that Eleanor had fallen in love with him, the realization had me like, oh we’re going there? I can see it but eh ... and it was as if the writers felt like because they did all that work in season one, when they put Team Cockroach through various tests and trials in the later seasons, they didn’t feel the need to rebuild that and usually, that would be fine, usually that would make sense, usually that is what you do with characters but considering that the group or one person in the group has their respective and collective memories erased with each test and trial, I didn’t believe the bond as the series went on because the show didn’t work for it, it relied on what was shown in the first season especially between Chidi and Eleanor where all the show did was be like, Chidi, Eleanor look at these tapes, here are your memories, boom! love! and it just became rushed and unearned because I didn’t see these realizations of romantic love in real time, they were perfectly content as friends or acquaintances and then the plot would be like, OK love time! and then it would suddenly be like, OH I LOVE CHIDI/ELEANOR!  and I just didn’t believe it.
Especially when a character like Simone comes into the mix and she actually does have chemistry with Chidi and they feel natural and organic and they complement each other really well
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and they actually do get each other until the show, in my opinion, tweaked Simone’s character:
but I'm not even talking about her boundaries, I think it's perfectly fair for her to not be open to Brent, this is mostly about how she's acting in relation to Chidi, and while she is in a new environment and confused, semblances of the old Simone should be there but the show has stripped that away because they want her to be an obstacle for Eleanor and Chidi while also not being an actual threat and I think it's changed her character.
It’s also one of the issues I had with Jason and Janet where they relied too heavily on season 1.

Saying Goodbye to The Good Place
Tonight I watched one of my favorite shows in history end. I watched it live with freaking commercials and I tuned out the rest of the world. And I cried my eyes out so many times. And I don’t know how well I can explain that, or how exactly to put into words what this show has meant to me, but I’m going to cry.
I started watching this show when season 2 came on Netflix. I had heard good things about it online and a friend or two had watched it, so I decided to give it a try. (I had watched the first, like, 2 episodes months before but hadn’t kept going or given it a real chance.) I found myself completely hooked. I watched the first season in two days and had finished everything the show had to offer by the end of the week, diving into tumblr accounts, twitter threads, the cast’s social media pages. None of that is uncommon for me when I first become obsessed with a show.
But The Good Place was uncommon. It was unlike anything I’d ever seen, and remains so to this day. It had fabulous humor in many facets, from Jason’s lovable idiocy to Chidi’s relatable indecision to Eleanor’s perfectly captured selfishness to Tahani’s name-dropping to Janet’s cacti to Michael’s comments about humans and the dynamics between them all and so much more. And the show, the writers, balanced all of that with so much heart. With Eleanor’s drive to be better. With Chidi’s ever-present willingness to help. With Jason’s unexpected and loving wise advice. With Tahani’s desire to be loved. With Michael’s growing understanding of humans and our lives. With Janet’s evolution and coming to understand what it means to feel and to love. And it was absolutely beautiful to watch these characters go through whatever they might go through in a given episode. I would watch this balance of perfectly imperfect in any situation you put on my screen.
But the writers and creators put them in a situation I’d never imagined would be on TV: discovering morality and spirituality in the afterlife. These characters navigated dilemmas we all face in our everyday lives. They made jokes and went through ridiculous scenarios and reboots and they messed up and tried time and time again, and through it all, we the viewers were learning. To be good. To be better. Maybe not necessarily by copying these characters, and certainly not their lives on earth, but by inspiring us to think about these questions and the implications of our lives. This show was a lovely escape from reality for 22 minutes until the picture faded and I found myself contemplating the things Chidi’s ethics class had tackled that week, or thinking about my own actions, what my version of the good place would be. All in all, this show made me think about the kind of person I want to be. And it actually made me a better person.
I think a lot about the little speeches made on this show, which have been anything but little to me. (Don’t get me started on Chidi’s wave speech I’ll be crying about it every day forever.) And I find myself thinking about what Michael says to Bad Janet almost every day. That what matters is that we try to be a little better today than we were yesterday. That that’s where hope for humanity lies. And that thought, that simple thought which should not boggle the mind of any decent human being, is groundbreaking. Because these simple and profound truths about the universe and humanity were nestled in every single episode of the good place, right there between jokes about Jason’s dance crew and Janet’s void. And they found their way into our lives, and I know that even just watching this show once a week was one of the things that made me a better person that day. Which is why I’m so grateful to this show.
Eleanor taught me that it’s okay to make mistakes. That being a little trashy is always fun as long as you have a good heart. And she and Chidi taught me that love is out there. That soulmates are something you make, not something you find, and that even if you can’t understand why at first, people who love you are going to come into your life and the real ones won’t disappear. She taught me that the walls have to come down someday, and that when they do, the view is so much better. Most importantly, she taught me that nothing is ever set in stone. That people can change and get better and learn to love and care and be loved and cared for.
Chidi taught me that the little things can’t hold me back. I felt seen by his (albeit, exaggerated) indecision and anxiety. But he grew throughout this show and through his journey, I learned to move aside the little struggles to make room for the big joys. I learned that helping someone is always worth my time, because even if I never see them again, or I never get thanked, I’m putting a little more good into the world. And he would always do that. He taught me that it’s okay to come into your own and stand up for yourself and what you believe in. He and Eleanor taught me that there’s always someone out there who has your back, and that love means putting someone else first. I especially saw that in the finale.
Tahani taught me that it’s okay to know who I am. That confidence is something each person deserves to feel. She taught me that there’s nothing wrong with wanting to be loved, as long as you remind yourself that it doesn’t determine your worth. She taught me that mistakes are a tool for learning, but they can’t be used if we pretend we didn’t make them. She taught me that it’s okay to be a little frivolous when frivolity brings you joy. She taught me that spite can be a great motivator, but the results are much more fruitful and enjoyable when you do things for other people.
Jason taught me that I don’t have to have all the answers. That there’s more to life than numbers and books and school and all the things that give a college student looking at the future anxiety. He taught me that it’s love that matters, and doing the things that bring you joy. He taught me that people are not always what they appear to be at first glance, and that everyone has something worthwhile to say. He taught me that words don’t have to be fancy or eloquent to be poignant and meaningful. He taught me that embracing who you are and what/who you love is what makes a person happy.
Janet taught me that knowledge isn’t everything. She reinforced the idea that emotions are not inferior or contrary to facts and knowledge, but rather something even deeper and more meaningful than trivia or information that could come from google. She taught me that life is a complicated mess full of millions of questions, and there are some that cannot be answered. She taught me that you love who you love, even if it’s unexpected, and there is zero shame in that. And she taught me that one of the noblest pursuits in the world is that of making people happy, especially the people you love.
Michael taught me that humans are complex, and sometimes they kind of suck, but they are still worth loving. He proved that people are not all good or all bad. He taught me that what matters is trying to be good and kind and honest and loving. He taught me not to give up on what I know is right. He taught me that it’s okay to change your mind when you learn new things, and that it’s more than okay to decide to do what’s right at any stage in the game. He taught me that people are worth believing in. He taught me that being wrong can be one of the most rewarding things in the world. And he taught me that the human life we have is a gift.
Together, these characters taught me that we are all capable of changing and improving. They taught me that it’s okay to be who you are, even if a lot of things change. You can still be loved for all of your little quirks and flaws and habits. You are worthy of being loved even if you aren’t the best version of you yet. And they taught me that we can all get there eventually. More than anything, they taught me that the love we have for each other, the bonds we build with the people in our lives, the friends, the family, the significant others, everyone, is what makes us human and what makes us whole. It drives us to be better and to make others happy. It supports us and holds us as we grow together.
So I just want to say thank you. To Michael Shur for creating this show and its characters. To the writers for making me fall in love with these people and stories. To Kristen Bell and Ted Danson and William Jackson Harper and Jameela Jamil and Manny Jacinto and D’Arcy Carden for bringing these characters to life and making them into people that I will never be able to let go of. To anyone involved with this beautiful show that I have enjoyed through the very end. Thank you for giving me a reason to laugh, cry, contemplate, and feel content with a show that was groundbreaking and stunning and hilarious and heartwarming with thousands of good moments and a perfect ending. These characters will always be a part of my heart, and I will always try to be a little better tomorrow than I was today because of them. Thank you, and goodbye to new episodes. I have a feeling I’ll be watching all the ones which are now old time and time again.

Top 5 Media Experiences of 2020
The Good Place
Persona 5
Becoming Invested in the Weepies
Completing Final Fantasy X-2
Bojack Horseman
I'm a Ted Danson fan. Wasn't too flash on Cheers, but I grew up with Becker and I just think his voice, look and style of acting are really cool. My initial interest in The Good Place was to see Ted Danson playing a recent role. I knew the reputation that the show had, and I knew the big spoiler twist (thanks a fuckin lot for turning that into a meme, guys), but I went in with an open mind and expectations that were as clear as I could make them.
And my final thoughts on the show as are follows - The Good Place stands on its own for four great seasons, and it might be one of the best shows of the 2010's.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of redemption arcs - I think it busies up a lot of shows and stuff with plot points they don't necessarily need, and at worst it basically consists of a bad guy gaining a conscience at the last second and dying for it. So if you came up to me at some point in time and told me that one of the best TV shows of the 2010's was a four season long redemption arc, I would have been pissed. The scope of the show is wider than that, asking what it means to be good, and all of the main characters have quirks and idiosyncracies that aren't out and out villainous - but let's be real, The Good Place is a four season long redemption arc.
What makes The Good Place interesting is its focus on the human condition. Any hack can go "my masterwork is intrinsically about the human condition", but The Good Place is actually focused on the human condition. Whether we can improve our own lives and the lives around us through the understanding and implementation of ethics, whether there's a single defining set of ethical guidelines that are objectively the "right" ones, and whether the person we become tomorrow can make up for the person we are today.
This is framed around a focal character who sold placebos to cancer patients, died in a supermarket parking lot after yelling at an environmental activist and dropping a bottle of margarita mix, and spends the first season of the show trying to cheat her way into a heaven she doesn't belong to.
The Good Place proves itself to be a very philosophical show, exploring different ethical frameworks and their relationship with human impulse. Every episode is about the characters fumbling through a dozen different patterns of thought, applying it to their worldview and slowly becoming better people. It also involves post-life bureaucracy, the grey area between straight good and straight evil, and the growing complexity of the world affecting the morality of simple, daily actions.
I could leave it at these grand platitudes, but the show wouldn't work on those concepts alone. The core cast of characters all work exceptionally well together, and it's their relationships with each other that make those concepts as meaningful as they are. Seriously, by the end of season 3, I was tearing up. I outright cried over the finale. The characters are phenomenal, and how they grow and support each other over the course of the show is the real meat of the experience.
And just for the record, since he was the reason I started watching the show - Ted Danson is fan-fucking-tastic in The Good Place. But he's one aspect of a greater whole, and I'm glad he was the impetus for me watching this show because it introduced me to something incredibly thought provoking and emotionally intelligent.
While I'm talking about the acting, everyone is fantastic in this show - Kristin Bell has a great performance over the course of this show. William Jackson Harper is incredible as Chidi, I want to see him in more things - he was one of the best characters in Midsommar, so between this and that I really hope he gets more recognition and more work. Jameela Jamil is a delight all throughout the show, with her own journey of growth punctuated with the most ridiculous name drops ever. And while Manny Jacinto's character has been criticized, the contrast between his first and last moments on the show is unmatched and his character is instrumental in the plot happening the way it does. They all appeal to a specific niche, and they round each other out incredibly well. All four actors did an exceptional job here, and the result is one of the most thought-provoking and emotionally resonant shows I've ever seen.
Also, D'Arcy Carden steals the show as Janet. The way Janet develops over the show is incredible, and it took an incredibly nuanced performance for it to progress that naturally. D'Arcy Carden is the unsung hero of this show, and she deserves all the praise in the world.
The Good Place is one of those shows where you need to watch the first season before you decide to drop it. It's a bit silly to begin with, and while it never loses its humor sensibilities, you would be doing yourself a disservice to watch a few episodes, get turned off by the humor and tune out. By the time episode 8 rolls around, the show has hit its stride, and the best content of the season is still on its way. The way everything ramps up has to be seen to be believed.
The Good Place is my #1 favorite thing of the year. I can't spill my guts about it enough - now is the perfect time to check it out, because it ended this year and it's all on Netflix/DVD/Blu-Ray. Above any of my other interests this year, I would urge anyone reading to give The Good Place a try. It's a superb series.

Interview part 2
Pairing: Tom Holland x reader Request: yes Hello! Can you do like a part 2 to the interview where they confess their feelings and confirm a relationship between them on Ellen or Graham Norton! Warnings: none a/n: I wasn´t planning on doing a second part but since you guys asked for it I´ll write it x Also it´s Kristen Bell and William Jackson Harper from the good place. part 1 here
Tumblr media
After the interview with Jimmy Fallon and the awkward question about you two dating, Jacob had enough. There was a party a few days later, to celebrate Far From Home premiering in a couple of days. Jacob set you both up, locking you both in a room.
“I won´t let you out until you figure your feelings out” he said before leaving.
You both sat in a bed in awkward silence, neither one of you wanting to be the first one to talk first. You were scared that if you let your guard down then Tom would reject you; and that would be humiliating. Tom was nervous, he had thought about telling you he liked you. Tom thought about taking you to a nice and fancy dinner, then go for a walk under the stars, he´d finally walk you home and when you reached your front door he´d tell you how he felt or he´d kiss you. But now he was forced to do it, he couldn´t prepare any speech. At the end of the night you were both making out on a chair in the garden.
The movie came out and it was doing amazing on the grossing; it was the first Spiderman movie to reach a billion dollars. So Ellen decided it was time to invite Tom and you for an interview.
Your appearance on the Ellen show was four months after you and Tom started your relationship, still no plans on making it public.
“So Far From Home is the first movie to earn a billion dollars, congratulations!” Ellen said as she sat right across from you. You had been talking about the movie for a while now.
“Thank you so much, the support that the movie has is unbelievable. We wanted to thank the fans” Tom said; he was gonna reach for your hand but he stop as he realize too much PDA might look suspicious.
“So I know you two said you´re great friends”
“Nah, I can´t stand him” you said as everyone laughed
“How was it like doing the kissing scene? Was it awkward?” Ellen continued
“Not really, it was actually improvised” Tom began
“What do you mean improvised?” Ellen inquired.
“The script said that MJ was supposed to give Peter a kiss on the cheek” Tom said
“In the last shot I told Jon if I could try something” you continued “so we began the dialogue and I kissed him and we started improvising from that”
“Was there a talk after that? Something like ´hey, sorry I kissed you´ or ´wanna do it again?´” Ellen questioned you.
“Not really, we are both very professional so we knew it was something good for the movie and something that the fans would have wanted to see” You replied.
“Not gonna lie, I did want to kiss her again… or properly” Tom said.
The crowd started cheering, all of them in awe. You looked at Tom as if you were about to kill him, you talked about making it public and you both agreed it was best not to.
“By the looks y/n is giving you right now I´m going to assume you shouldn´t have said that” Ellen said before announcing commercials.
-
“Welcome back! We are now going to play a fun game I call ´You bet your partner´” Ellen said as commercials were over “The rules are simple, y/n and Kristen will be suspended in a harness, while the others bid on how many examples their partner can name in 30 seconds for a given category (e.g., "Taylor Swift songs"). Giving the required number of correct responses earns that team one point, while the opposing teams’ suspended partner gets dropped.”
You were given a blindfold which you put almost immediately, slowly being pulled into the air. You held tight onto the harness as you reached the top.
“Tom?” you spoke.
“Yes, angel?” he replied making the crowd awe
“Make me drop and I´ll end you, okay?” you threatened your boyfriend.
“That´s cute, you´re calling each other pet names. Talking about pet names… William how many pet names for a significant other do you think Kristen can name in 30 seconds?” Ellen asked
“I say Kristen can name 15 pet names” William answered gaining a groan from the woman hanging from the ceiling.
“Well I bet y/n can name 20” Tom said.
“Tom are you-?” you said annoyed.
“I challenge” William said
“It´s okay babe, you got this” Tom tried to give you some confidence and also cheating a little bit.
You started naming pet names but the pressure of being dropped into nothing made your mind go blank at number 16. Tom was cheering for you form ground level, saying you were doing amazing. Unfortunately you said 18 words when the timer came to a stop, you lost. You were dropped to the floor stopping only a few feet from the ground; you screamed cursing Tom for making you do this. The game went on, naming cereal brands and US presidents; luckily you won but it was just because Kristen was terrible under pressure.
When you reached ground level (being dropped since Ellen said there was no other way to do it) you were given some cash prices which you were going to donate since you really didn´t need them. Tom helped you take the blindfold and the harness while Ellen said goodbye to the audience and the people at the studio. Everyone could see you in the background of the shot and that´s when Tom decided to give you a small peck on the lips, trying to calm you down from the adrenaline that rushed through your veins. The shot was cut right after the kiss, everyone saw it; everyone on their houses and studio saw it, even people could see it later on the internet.
“Are you aware you just kissed me on television? On the Ellen DeGeneres Show?” you said as worry started to fill your body.
“Yes, I know” he simply replied, his hands cupping your cheeks, ready to kiss your worry away. “Please, don´t get mad”
“I thought you didn´t want to make it official”
“Well I´m tired of hiding how much I like you and I´d like to kiss you whenever I want to and not worry if we´re going to get caught” he said as he caressed your cheek.
“That´s a relief cause I was getting tired too” you smiled at him.
Tom smiled you back and leaned in to give you another kiss, a proper one this time.

hi! so, I finally watched the end of the good place and fucking sobbed. a lot. it was... well, you know. amazing? transformative? redefining standards of what a finale can do and what a show can be? (okay maybe that's just me, and I did finish it about ten minutes ago, so, you know.) Anywho! I see from your tags that you've seen it—do you think you'll do a write up on it? or is it simply Too Much? in any event, thanks for all the write ups you have done! an absolute delight, every one
Ohhhh I don’t know. I’m in a weird place with this one, because I just full on wept throughout the entire finale, and yet the over the course of the fourth season my notes gradually dried up to the point that I hadn’t even posted anything for the previous five episodes. I just felt like I didn’t have much to say. I still enjoyed watching it but lately I haven’t been like…interested? in it? If it’s interest, whatever it is that makes me actually type something.
I was surprised though at how most of the reviews I saw after were vaguely disappointed by the finale, because while that spoke to a similar drifting off I’d felt myself over the course of the last season, I had thought the finale itself was lovely. It did seem that most of those more B-grade responses came from people who were just not that taken with the show & characters overall, though not in every case.
But then I read Linda Holmes’s review, and thought oh, this is it, she understood what I would have wanted to say, and said it beautifully.
I’ll probably still finally put something together this weekend, just because it will bug me to not have a complete record posted of this series. I’m envisioning something just short & sweet, though if I start talking about how fucking good William Jackson Harper is all bets will be OFF.
