It really shows, repeatedly, that the Stranger Things fandom's ideas of right and wrong are based on a performance rather than ethics. You get so mad at people for liking a character or ship that you hate, but then engage in the most god awful behavior as if being a good person starts and ends with liking a fictional character or ship.

You "perform" your morality by telling people openly and loudly how much you hate Billy because he is a "racist abuser who hate crimes children," and you go on these hate campaigns to surpass Harringrove in popularity because your ship is "objectively" morally good and wholesome. You think people who like this character and this ship don't critically engage in the fandom, or that we are inherently more racist and abusive and homophobic than you. Yet, you all participate in the most vile behavior clearly showing that you don't care about a single issue you've brought up to us. You don't care about racism. You do not care about abuse. You don't care about queer people. You just want to feel morally superior to people who like things you don't like.

It's not ethical to harass and bully the real people who play these characters. It's not ethical to silence people of color and queer people who disagree with your takes on these characters and ships by calling them racist or homophobic. It's not ethical to project your hate towards survivors onto Billy and others. It's not ethical to joke about his dad hitting him then act like you actually care about abuse. It's not ethical to screenshot and humiliate and defame real people for making content you don't like. Et cetera. All the while ignoring very valid criticism of the way The Duffers and Co. treat certain topics. You can perform your dislike all you want but it takes actual work to take things like abuse and racism and homophobia seriously.

...and it's just ironic because I've seen Harringrove shippers actively engage in charities and doing the hard work of talking about abuse and racism and homophobia and other important issues, but you all who hate them have wasted your time showing your misogyny and abusive behavior towards real people and for what? Because The Duffers told you they wanted the character to be a big old bigot for no particular reason? Because Grace gets in the way of your ships so that means accusing her of being a p*do for shipping Hellcheer and stalking her at cons okay? Because Dacre said he sympathizes with Billy as an abused kid so that makes attacking him on social media and repeatedly insulting him okay?

Seek help immediately. And if you think you're not one of the "bad" fans but you passively let your peers act like this and you still enjoy their fanworks and support their engagement in fandom then you are still part of the problem. You need to deplatform people who do these things immediately.

uh... no. this is brainy smurf. i'm not sure he knows how to be nice. he's an asshole to everyone at all times.

the thing about their relationship is that it's incredibly dysfunctional and unhealthy but... neither of them really know how to act any other way? brainy is a bossy jerk, and clumsy is kind and stupid and loves brainy more than anything else in the world.

like. if you're going to ship brainy and clumsy, you should understand that this is not a relationship that would be a good idea in real life. they're codependent as hell. brainy pushes clumsy away, and clumsy keeps coming back for more abuse from brainy.

i wouldn't consider it an abusive relationship, just dysfunctional and unhealthy. "Clumsy kept coming back for more abuse from Brainy" is a quote from danny goldman, brainy's 80s voice actor, while describing the friendship between the two.

to me, "abusive" implies a power imbalance, as well as the idea of the behavior being limited to the specific relationship. and...

while it may seem like there's a power imbalance between clumsy and brainy... there really isn't? sure, brainy's bossy and mean, but clumsy isn't being manipulated or forced into being with him. clumsy's happily and willingly spending all his time with brainy. literally, brainy will tell clumsy to go away, and clumsy will Not go away. clumsy has free rein to do whatever he wants, and what he wants is to be with brainy.

brainy treats everyone like this. clumsy isn't an exception. in fact, brainy treats clumsy better than he treats most smurfs.

so clumsy keeps coming back for more abuse, but the relationship itself isn't abusive.

but it really couldn't be any other way, could it? brainy's personality annoys most people too much to form a positive relationship, and clumsy prioritizes brainy over everything else. and something about that intense devotion really gets to me. even before i realized how dysfunctional they were, back when i still insisted they were purely sweet and wholesome with nothing fucked up going on, i recognized the intense codependent devotion and it's part of what made me ship them.

this was a short ask but i went on a ramble abt this relationship. whoops!

The Case for Hornigold

So like a lot of people I would love to see S2 focusing on Ed’s character arc, him finding out who he really is / wants to be, freeing himself from the constricts of expectations and toxic masculinity and integrating all the different parts of his personality into something wholesome (preferably doing all this independent of Stede, as has been argued really well in other metas that I will link here as soon as I find them again).

And you know who he absolutely needs to meet for this integration and healing to happen?

Hornigold!

Let me explain why this would make for excellent storytelling.

The epic potential of this meeting struck me like a lightning bolt when I was reading up a little bit about the historical version of Edward Teach. In an article somewhere there was one sentence that let the whole story unfurl in my mind immediately. It’s the last sentence of this paragraph:

Uuuuh. So “historically”, Hornigold is out there somewhere hunting pirates. At the end of S1, Ed has just broken his Act of Grace contract after like one day, so we can assume that the British navy will be after him real bad (not just a Badminton brother out for personal revenge this time!) and will presumably start something of a hunt for him / put a price on his head. It would be very believable for Hornigold to start taking up that trail.

Now, we now that this show does not care about historical accuracy, but why pass up a chance of such juicy meeting, when history serves you a cue like that? (An excellent opportunity to go with the “yes, and…” of improv!)

We know from the breakfast conversation with Calico Jack that also in the OFMD universe, Ed sailed with Hornigold, back when CJ and Ed “first became outlaws”. We know that Hornigold abused them, verbally and physically (“worse than dogs”, “stabbed us”, “ground us down into nothing” etc.). So Ed learned the way of piracy from an abusive asshole, an epitome of toxic masculinity. Let that sink in. He (presumably) ran away from home after he killed his dad in a very traumatic experience and first place he ended up in was Hornigold’s ship, which sounds like horrible environment to be at any time, let alone after something like this.

But he got out of there and is now one of the most infamous pirate captains himself. He made a name for himself by telling a ghost story of violence, by creating a creature that came straight from Hornigold’s ship of horrors, if you so will. But we know that he did not turn into that person, it is just a performance – it has been drilled into him that this is how piracy works (and it does! it does work! But for what price) and he performs this role brilliantly for a long time.

At the end of S1, Ed turns into the kraken. He does not ‘revert’ to Blackbeard, his flashy, charismatic fuckery persona, but turns into something much darker, where actually he is all the things that he only ever projected before, dead-serious, stone-hearted.

Good storytelling will show us how he gets out of this again. How he makes deliberate choices that bring him closer to peace and understanding of himself, to acceptance of all sides of him, the soft and the chaotic-violent ones. It will be very hard and obstacles will need to be overcome. And, very importantly, for this to feel like fulfilling storytelling he needs to face his past and tell it: No. I will not follow your dictate, I deliberately and consciously choose to leave you behind and forge my own path – my past does not determine my future!

What better way to spell that out than meeting the abusive mentor (who has even taken a pardon!!! Who has even ‘betrayed’ the concept piracy??) and tell him NO to his face?

It would feel really threatening to be hunted by your horrible former mentor, having to face him, making you inevitably revert back to feeling small, young, helpless and hopeless. (Is there any other character that could possibly have this effect on Ed??)

So imagine how good it will feel to then slam your foot down, because you’re not young and helpless anymore, you’ve grown, you choose a different path, and you stand up for your current self and your younger self.

Imagine how good it would feel to Ed to tell his abusive mentor that he did not deserve to be treated like this, that Hornigold was wrong about life (and I guess piracy) and that he can go suck eggs in hell.

So, anyone else excited for Hornigold in S2???

What made you ship it? Not the elevator choking scene, which is I think most people’s gateway. Not the Supersonic corpse rooftop scene, which was creepy AF and almost makes me unship it. I got a tiny vibe at “hands in the air like you just don’t care” but it really escalated in season 3 when they were forced to be co-captains, he tried to be an asshole and force her into a PR relationship as revenge for the injury to his ego, but then got taken aback when she played it up like a pro (and in my hc he started to have hopes because he’s a sad lonely old man)

What are your favorite things about the ship?

I like enemy pairings, and Starlander certainly fits that mold, with plenty of tension and antagonism.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? Probably not unpopular but the age difference and the fact that he referred to her as “young lady” and used to talk to her like he’s her dad (and not in a sexy way) early on is sketchy AF. Also the fact that there might be real person fodder BTS is sketchy AF too lol.

Homie: Lol, I ship it. But maybe like 3/10 enthusiasm. But it’s the only Hughie pairing I read.

What made you ship it? Hughie being able to act convincingly gay while blackmailing Ezekiel makes it plausible Butcher would make him hook up with HL as part of some crazy scheme. The fact that he’s part of the tripleteam in the herogasm fight was the closest thing to actual canon support 🤣

What are your favorite things about the ship? The contrast between Hughie being very normal and wholesome, without too many complexes versus… whatever the hell is going on in HL’s psyche. Homelander’s utter disdain for Hughie, which makes the pairing funnier. I’m actually not a fan of the darkfics for this pairing, and prefer the lighter, crackier ones.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? This is one of the few HL pairings where I think I can only stomach Top the Homelander|John. Truly a rarity. I prefer not to have Butchie as a backdrop, which I think is an unpopular opinion.

Gavin had everything. A title for prince of Hell. A new life in the 21st Century rather than dying on that ship. Gavin already had it, and literally could have just said "bye" with a neutral expression. Gavin was moved to hug Crowley out of forgiveness and gratitude. He is so sweet and wholesome

He's also such a normal kid lol. Slamming the door in his parent's face and he has such young adult vibes haha

So the oldest Gavin can be, based on *maximum age for the average male to still be fertile* so based on Google [ while there are exceptions ] most men begin losing fertility after 35, so Gavin is 26 at the oldest. But he still acts very much like a teenager [ door slamming ] so his brain probably isn't a fully adult brain yet [ 26+ ] so he's probably around 21 because you can push it to 40 fertility wise for the average guy

I do believe Fergus MacLeod loved Gavin and also hated Gavin because of intergenerational trauma. Once he became a demon that capacity to feel both vanished. Gavin's abuse happened, but Crowley didn't make a demon deal until after Gavin would be old enough to look after himself after the ten years. Crowley could have made a deal when Gavin was 4 and Gavin would be fending for himself at 14, but he didn't. Crowley absolutely would know about demons at a young age, because his mother was into the Supernatural

This isn't to excuse Crowley's abuse. It's to answer a question some people have. Why does 21st Century kind of human Crowley love Gavin but he didn't love Gavin when he was a human before?

It's a combination of factors

300+ years of being away from his son has healed some of that trauma through time

It wasn't just human blood, it was purified human blood

With demon physiology he can handle his alcohol better

He loved Gavin, as Fergus MacLeod too, but he also resented him. People can have opposing feelings, especially with intergenerational trauma involved

That's not to excuse Crowley's abuse, but rather to explain how it was possible for 21st Century human like Crowley to NOT hate Gavin but for 17th Century fully human Crowley to hate Gavin

thoughts on Samantha's main ships

I'm a shameless Samtory shipper, but there are other Sam ships that I am rather fond of and I would like to share some thoughts on them.

Samdiaz 🐙

Miguel and Sam were The Ship. Clearly planned early on by the producers, this ship have a touch of innocence and youthness to it. Miguel was still a good kid and Sam was young, not-traumatized, and just enjoying the company of this boy who was true to her and held no ill intentions at all. He was the perfect guy. At least to a point. We soon learn about Miguel's insecurities and how it hurts the relationship, alongside his descent into the Cobra mentality. I suffered. Despite hoping that Sam would have a queer relationship, this straight couple was just too pure and wholesome. They had THE vibe. If Sam had to date a guy, Miguel was it. Unfortunately Cobra Kai happened.

When they got back together it was fine. It didn't make me melt like before because now things were different, everyone was in a darker place, and they both needed time to heal before getting together.

I still cheer for them. I hope they can make better choices.

I also think people are unnecessarily mean to this ship. People act like every relationship is pure and politically immaculate. This is a ridiculous standard that I hope people don't believe that much. Humans are failable, your partner will be too. Two teenagers will be even worse. So be kinder to them, don't enforce a level of maturity that's not realistic. Seriously.

Samrobby 🌳

Firstly, I hate how this name sound and I wish we had a different better combination of their names. Now onto what metters.

Sam and Robby are THE STAR CROSSED CLICHE we all love -- because we are weak. Children of mortal enemies? Bish, sign us on! There was no way these two wouldn't happen, it's just too star written to be ignored.

This ship is like bonanza and pillow clouds. They have a deeper vibe to it. Despite also being wholesome, their composition come from a more introspective and serious place. Robby has this weight and this baggage that is ugly and problematic. However, upon meeting Daniel and allowing Miyagi's teachings find home inside him, this weight was transformed into something so powerful. He met Sam at a spiritual place they both shared. She, having inherited it all from birth, and he who learned it. And as they shared this connection and this mental space together things were so beautiful.

Robby was at peace, he was growing, he was happy. Sam had someone who now shared the same teachings, someone who also genuinely felt affection for her and had so much to teach about a life she couldn't even imagine.

Of course, again, things happened. And I was so very sad. But I felt worst later on when Robby abandoned Miyagi's teaching's and just turned his back to the LaRussos. It was understandable from his perspective, but it hurt just the same.

In general I see people being impossibly disrespectful and cruel to this ship. It's not a surprise, though, two of the most hated characters are in it, also it rivals the new "popular ship". I once again think this type of behavior is childish and shameful. Sam and Robby had a beautiful thing, their connection was dream-like and I hope they bond again -- even if platonic because the LawRusso babies MUST be an evolution from the LawRusso parents.

To me, at the end of the day, Sam is whom I hold highest. But I'll be lying if I said Robby and Miguel didn't have a place in my CK heart. They are great kids, they have good hearts, they both needed better guidance and better support. I want them to get along, just like I want Sam and Tory to get along. They are kids fighting a war they have nothing to gain from and adults relentlessly abuse them in the name of it.

rickorty review s3e6 rest and ricklaxation

aka the slimy gilf episode, and one of my favorites. they absolutely fucked behind the scenes in this one.

very beginning of the episode, morty’s boutta ask jessica out, but rick interrupts them. jealous old man.

says a lot about their partnership that rick trusted morty to fly the ship in a near death experience. and when they were both freaking the fuck out afterwards, morty said “why do you keep doing this to us”, another confirmation morty views them as a duo. rick and morty a hundred years. ricks reply with “maybe i hate myself, maybe i think i deserve to die”, only morty gets to hear vunerable shit like that. throwback to the time he took morty with him to go try to get unity back.

wholesome.

meanwhile,

the duality of man lmaooo. rick’s a very all or nothing person in the first place. he either shits on morty and pushes him away or he submits himself to the terrifying ordeal of being known and loved and loving in return. both options are bad options to him and he’s fuckn miserable lmao. maybe you should make out with your grandson and you’d calm down

when mortys seducing that chick at the bar, she goes “aren’t you a child” and he goes “only in the ways that matter.” morty’s a fuckn canon teleiophile aint he. his planet girlfriend in s5 was older too, and jessica looks older by a year or so even if they share a class. and those mermaids he lost his virginity to in the citadel episode? doubt they were younger teens. and the girl he's with at the end of the episode was older too. got a type, morty? anything ya want to share with the class?

possesive rick, anyone?

morty looked at his dick again lmaooo this is the uhh second on screen time now, maybe third. also, shoutout to rick peacocking for morty, like he does every other episode. he acts like he doesnt care about anyone’s opinion, but he obviously hold some weight to morty’s.

and then, of course, comes the shit fans have been analyzing since this episode dropped.

look at how deep his fuckn frown is. him gently cradling morty in his arms. soft.

this all happened because healthy!rick realized his love for morty belonged to toxic!rick. he doesn’t view his love for summer or beth as toxic- he’s sweet to them and offers to cook and doesn’t otherwise mention it. but morty? if he had it his way, his love for morty would be gone. partially due to it being romantic, partially due to fear- rick is an all or nothing thinker, but he’s also an all or nothing lover. once he falls, that’s it, it won’t go away, and rejection hurts. diane, bird person, unity- those all hurt the shit out of him. as of season 3, no way in hell does he want to fall in love again. but the heart wants what it wants, old man. and, on some level, he does recognize that what he and morty has is toxic, feelings aside- he doesnt come to fully actualize it until s5, but there’s no fuckn way he’s not aware.

the detoxifier took out everything the person views as bad, and kept everything the person views as good. doting on his family? good. god complex? bad. higher regard for personal safety? good. verbally abusing morty? bad. helping people? good. loving morty? bad. it’s interesting how he considers every part of how he interacts with morty wrong- both the shitting on him, and the caring about him.

and on to morty- healthy!morty tells rick he loves him. he doesn’t seem to expect a response, which is good, because healthy!rick doesnt reply. the machine took out morty’s low self esteem, it took out his willingness to follow rick, it took out most negative emotions, it took out his good feelings towards technology (”i downgraded to a clamshell.”), and it took out his codependence. he views his need to stay with rick as toxic. he’s not wrong, but he’s not fully convinced, either. because ultimately, when rick had jessica call him at the end of the episode, he didn’t hang up. he knew he was being traced, it was the first thing he told jessica- so if he didn’t want to be found, he wouldn’t have picked up the phone in the first place. and what happened to having a clamshell? he was leaving his trail wide open. and i have a fuckn hunch it was from him watching toxic!rick sacrifice himself for morty. he stands there blankfaced during the whole thing, but this is the first time he actually sees this happen. the time collar, the prison, it wasn’t the same. he knows that on some level, rick cares about him enough to prioritize him in a life or death situation. maybe he brushed this off, thought it was different because of the detoxifier, but i’d bet it stuck with him.

I fuckn love that whole scene where jessica tells morty that rick kept drunk dialing her and crying about morty being gone- lets be real, rick couldve tracked morty down at any time. maybe he was waiting for morty to come back. maybe he needed time to come to terms with realizing his toxic half had love for morty. either way, he reacted exactly the same way he did in the vindicators episode- getting shitfaced and crying over presumed rejection from morty. yeah, he’s fuckn whipped, regardless of whether or not he wants to be, or whether or not he’ll admit it.

rickorty rating: 10/10

What's with this common perception of K//taang as this "pure, wholesome, vanilla ship" when it actually has a lot of problematic and misogynistic elements to it?

Part of the reason is that people love to make simplistic dichotomies, which is odd for a show which has a major theme of breaking down dichotomies, but there it is.

At first glance zutara has a lot of the same beats as other enemies to lovers and hero/villain ships. Especially those involving a villainous male character and a heroic female character. And a lot of the appeal for THAT comes from the death and the maiden trope, which is as old as dirt. See Hades and Persephone. There’s also some Beauty and the Beast vibes. These are old, old tropes and they endure despite or because of the way they tap into darker aspects of the human psyche and desire. In a lot of these types of ships, the darkness is the appeal.

And zutara has some of this, which I suppose explains the popularity of the whole “I’ll save you from the pirates” thing, but really, if you were looking for that kind of ship, zutara isn’t really the one you would go for, because it’s like, the lightest possible version of this type of dynamic. Because Zuko at his most menacing is never really that threatening to the gaang, and most of the good shipping material for zutara happens after Zuko stops being such a jerk.

The appeal of any ship involving Zuko is really more of the appeal of the redeemed rival. Despite Zuko’s redemption, though, a lot of people still try to position zutara as the “dark” ship in comparison to KA, partly because the show does this in some ways - although in doing so, they kinda shot themselves in the foot, see episodes like “The Southern Raiders” and “Ember Island Players” which try to push the Zuko vs Aang thing in terms of their relationship to Katara but end up making Zuko look better in comparison.

There’s also the stigma around abuse victims that I’ve seen in other fandoms. Zuko is the “dark” option because he’s “damaged.” Even though his ending is one of hope and healing, a lot of the anti discourse reads as victim blaming, particularly when people say that Mai is a better option for Zuko because she “handles” him or puts up with him. Which is horrible for both Mai and Zuko.

I would also argue that it’s just regular old misogyny. We as a society are taught to view female desire itself as dark, which is why a lot of these types of love triangles follow the same pattern. The plucky good guy in pursuit of the girl who is attracted to a good-looking “bad boy” who is no good for her. By the end of the story, the girl will learn that the guy who is pursuing her is the one she should have chosen all along. This is the reason the myth of the Nice Guy persists. And the show creators themselves have used these words to talk about KA vs ZK, despite Katara never actually expressing attraction to Zuko in the series itself. But the idea that she could be is definitely present in the series. It’s also present in the way the fandom talks about these two ships.

And this is what really sours KA for me, too. I’ve seen SO many posts about how you have to ship it because “Aang is so nice.” And, um??? No, you don’t. In general, being “nice” is such a bizarre criteria for romance, that’s what so-called Nice Guys don’t understand. People who call themselves nice guys also usually aren’t that nice, but that isn’t the whole issue. The issue is that being nice doesn’t entitle you to a relationship.

And once you consider yourself a nice guy, you can justify all sorts of nastiness and entitlement. That’s the main difference between how KA is presented and how Zutara is presented. KA begins with the assumption that eventually Katara and Aang will get together, so every obstacle they face is just a bump in the road. Aang is, after all, so nice. He would never really hurt Katara. Therefore, if Katara feels hurt by Aang, it probably wasn’t as bad as she thought. Aang’s so nice, after all.

Which is...not actually all that wholesome at all. It has nothing at all to do with how nice Aang actually is, but the very fact that no relationship should be built on the assumption that one partner is infallible or “earned” a relationship due to being nice. That’s not how it works.

Contrast that with a guy who knows that he is capable of mistakes, who knows he’s capable of hurting others but is also capable of admitting it and apologizing and working to correct that behavior. That’s actually way more wholesome in reality.

I’m not talking about a situation where an abusive partner acts like they’re entitled for their partner to take them back because they’re sorry. In that situation there’s a likelihood that the abusive person will do the same thing again, whether or not they are actually sorry. But the beauty of Zutara is that Zuko never expects anything from Katara. He doesn’t change for Katara or the promise of her love or friendship. He changes himself, by himself, and it’s only then that Katara accepts him.

The reality is that anything that is presented as pure and wholesome is probably something you should immediately question. This is true wrt relationships, institutions, authority, and the discourse you read on the internet. People who are truly good don’t have to convince you that they’re pure. People who are truly good know that they’re fallible, and anyone who tries to convince you otherwise probably has an agenda that you should be wary of.

That’s why Iroh says that Zuko is pure, truly pure, at the end of the series. Because he’s been through the darkness and come out a better person for it. I’ll take that any day of the week over idealized vanilla white bread with misogynistic undertones.

They do a good job of having Voldemort believably change into a not crazy murderous bastard haha. It also has Sirius interacting with Voldemort and for some reason I find those scenes hilarious in any fic I read.

This story is a delight, it’s tone is very good and they do a great job of writing in the characters ‘voices’ for their pov’s. I especially like the posh way Voldemort talks and acts. This story is also hilarious on top of just being a very good slowburn, AND it has Sirius, which as you might have guessed, I love dearly. They also don’t bash any of the characters, and instead make them well rounded but flawed individuals, which I really appreciate.

“Harry Potter,” comes the soft, sibilant hiss of a voice he has heard in his dreams, in his nightmares, in his waking hours for years.

Slowly, carefully, Harry twists over and pushes up onto his hands and knees. He stays there, short breath fogging in front of his face, and his pursuer lets him. I’ve read two of childOTKW’s fics and both of them are fantastically written and attention grabbing stories. This one was the first one I read, and it has a very interesting take on lily Potter (one which I really enjoy) and the plot can leave you on the edge of your seat at times. The characterization is great, and the process of Harry and Tom getting to know each other is done very well.

“His attention skipped passed the students and moved to the politicians’ pavilion. His gaze locked with crimson, and he nearly faltered under the sheer hunger in those eyes.

It unnerved him how fixated the man was on his dirtied, exhausted figure.

But what troubled him more was the slight smirk he could make out on the man’s lips. It was almost pleased.

On the night of the attack, Lily managed to escape with her infant son, but at the cost of her husband’s life. Distraught and distrusting of her friends, she fled to France with Harry, to raise him away from the corruption in Britain and the rising influence of the Dark Lord. This is a story inspired by the manwha ‘At The End Of The Road’ by Haribo. A comic I read before reading this, which is very good I recommend it. They do not take the exact plot from the comic though, obviously changing significant details for it to work properly as a Tomarry Fic, but one main thing stays the same, which is that this is a body swap. Honestly I really enjoy childOTKW’s works, and this is no exception. The characterization is wonderful as always, and Harry is Fantastic. Plus I’ve always been a fan of time travel fics. (Fair warning this is another slow burn and Harry centric)

“What I find absolutely fascinating,” Riddle said, stalking closer, “is you.” He marched forward, backing Harry up until he was pinned to the cool wall of the common room. “Do you know why?”

“No. And I’ll be honest here, Riddle, I don’t particularly care.”

The taller boy grinned at him, small yet infinitely pleased. “That. Right there.” One hand rose and brushed some of Harry’s fringe from his face. “Nathan Ciro was a spineless little boy too afraid of his own shadow to dare even glance in my direction. But you…”

I am ALSO a huge true crime fan, and this story has a criminal that kinda reminds me of one that might appear in Hannibal (but with less murder). I enjoy the characterization, though tom is pretty tame in this compared to more cannon fics, considering he’s not the criminal and instead an investigator. Harry is also different from how people usually portray him, but I still like it.

It’s quite wholesome though, and I rather enjoy the progression of their relationship.

This story very realistically shows the progression of their relationship, going from enemies to family, and near the ‘end’ (it’s not finished) it becomes very wholesome with Snape trying to help Harry with his mental and physical health after years of abuse/ neglect.

Okay, for all of you who don't feel like watching Miles RP as David

Here are some of my favorite quotes. Context may be added if I feel like it. Reactions are my goblin brain screaming. All of these came from a discord so if they don't make sense . . . see goblin brain comment.

In roughly chronological order:

David: "Teachers are sort of like camp counselors during the rest of the year."

The thing is David is absolutely up his own ass enough to think this.

David: "Trail mix is expensive!"

^ said to show he understands why not everyone can donate to the charity for teachers. Very adorable, am crying.

David's "ooooh" seeing one dude was extremely non-heterosexual. Fucking bicon. Him losing his mind that one of the arenas is called "Survey camp"

David: "A person's hitting me -- I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry this is just pretend!"

This is just canonically how David plays video games. Either this or he's unwilling to commit violence at all, but I'll defer to Miles.

David: "That's very goat of you!"

Spencer: "Is David popular amongst his campers?"

David: "I like to think so! There's only 3 staff members, so I'm definitely in everyone's top 3."

"That also means you're in the bottom 3."

David: "Well, I choose not to think of it that way."

I think the other person in the stream is named Spencer. Friend of Miles. I know literally nothing else about him and am not even confident on those facts.

Every time he says something so non-David in his David voice I die: "I have a lot of grenades!"

David: "Oh my goodness, would you look at this beautiful scenery! Can we hike that mountain?"

This is so goddamn cute. I am dying. Miles looked at his fans and said "they will eat tonight" and I am so relieved.

David: "Not to be a couple of Greedy Garys, but I say we get this [care package] and then I'll drop another one!"

The fact that Miles is grinning like a lunatic the entire time is very good. (Also if this is formatted badly then I'm sorry but not all that sorry. I'm doing my best and David would be proud of me.)

David: "Didja getim? Didja getim? didja getim? How 'bout now?"

Spencer: "I didn't get 'em."

David: "Well, you tried your best and that's all that matters."

He calls healing "a little health kiss." I'm not sure why but it's very important to me.

David: [while jumping to murder someone] "Hi! Scuse me!"

David: "Well you know what gang, we did our best. You don't always win the 3-legged race. You did a wonderful job!"

Then there's a bit where they talk about Spencer's time at summer camp:

David: "ooooh hand-holding's pretty serious!"

David is too pure.

David: [dreamily] "Did you fall in love, Spencer? A summer love?" [puts hands up to his face]

Then there's the fact that David/Miles gets to pick where they play each round, and he keeps insisting on going to the one called "Survey Camp" every single time because it has the word "camp" in it.

David: "Now, I don't like to disagree, but . . . I was thinking we could go . . . to Survey Camp!"

Spencer reminds him that technically since David's the one with the power to choose, his opinion is the only one that matters:

David: "Everyone's opinion matters. And my opinion is we're going to camp."

David just steamrolling over Spencer's interests is very good. There are these little selfish nuggets sprinkled in among the wholesomeness that really capture the full David experience.

David: "Well, he's climbing up . . . he's coming my direction . . . oh, he looks scary . . ."

Spencer: "Is he coming towards me?"

David: "Oooh, I don't know. I'm dead!"

The positivity is relentless. I think Miles said on twitter afterwards that this whole thing was exhausting and I can see why. Being David is no picnic . . .

David: "I have a question: do we have to shoot each other in this game?"

And then a few seconds later:

David: "I'm just wondering if maybe there's a way we can, you know, help others. Talk through our issues."

And a few seconds after that:

David: "I was asking if they wanted to be friends in the game!"

I believe that moved killed him, too. Precious.

Also we're interrupting the real Miles!David content to share something my friend suggested to me while I was watching this and giving her quotes; she said that maybe David just calls everything camp to make life more fun, and then sent me this imaginary exchange that actually killed me all the way to death:

David: Gwen Santos would you go to marriage camp with me

Gwen: I'm going to have to change this story when I tell everyone

It made me laugh quite a bit.

Anyway, back to the video!

Spencer: "How do you sign up for [Camp Campbell]?"

David: "Well, um, you can fax, uh, an application to [email protected]. And . . . you can know that myself and Gwen and Quartermaster and sometimes Mr. Campbell will do our best to make sure they get what they need! Which more than anything is love and support. And friendship."

Spencer: "How many dollars does this camp cost?"

David: "You know . . . it is, um . . ."

And then the conversation switches subjects and David breathes a sigh of relief.

Very shortly after this he changed his character from a woman (she was wearing a yellow shirt, which he liked because the campers wear yellow shirts) to "a Forward Scout with a positive attitude!"

"I like his style."

Spencer: "Does everybody abuse David verbally?"

David: "You know, sometimes people have harsh words. Mostly Max, and Neil, and Gwen, and Quartermaster, and Nurf."

Spencer: "Did you just list almost everyone?"

David: "Mmm . . . I'd say maybe a third."

Poor David. Somebody please protect him.

Spencer: "Yeah, I think people abuse David. I get that vibe. Or at least, I feel it in my heart. Like I wanna put ants in your bunk or something."

David: "Well, I think that says more about maybe some of the hurt you're carrying with you. And sometimes when people don't know how to process that, they act out. Do you want some trail mix?"

David just said his favorite part of trail mix is the raisins which is so cute. "They have a little bit of salt on them, which isn't typical for a raisin."

And he keeps telling chatters to watch their language.

David: "Who is my favorite camper? Aww, you know I couldn't pick a favorite! . . . But I know who has the most potential, even if he doesn't want to admit it."

I KNEW IT!!!!!

I've been saying for years that David doesn't have a favorite and gravitates towards the ones he thinks need him the most AND I FINALLY GOT ONE RIGHT!

David: "Well you know, Gwen swears and that's okay."

David: [gasp] "The moss is growing on the north side of the rock!"

Every time he nerds out about weird shit in the game I gain 3 seconds to my life.

Spencer: "Did you get teabagged?"

David: "What's that?"

Spencer: "It's where somebody places their most intimate bits on you for . . . friendship."

David: [softly] "Oh, I don't know about that."

David: "I know a lot of fun camp songs."

Spencer: "Sing 3."

David: [starts singing] "Bum-bum-bumblebee, bumblebee tuna, I love bumblebee, bumblebee tuna . . ."

Spencer: "Okay, please stop. I immediately regret this decision."

David: "Max said the same thing! One of my campers. And, uh, and my co-counselor, Gwen."

He's literally made of sunshine. I would die for this fictional man.

Spencer: "Are people at camp against their will? I feel like they are."

David: "No! . . . They don't always like it immediately, but it grows on them."

Spencer: "It sounds like they're there against their will."

David: "Well I just think that's a negative way of looking at it."

FWIW Spencer makes an excellent foil to David. Not as aggressive as Max or as dour as Gwen, but he brings a very . . . like, straight-man energy to the conversation. Like how a normal person would react to David IRL. I'd enjoy seeing these two interact more.

Spencer: "It's like your overpositivity is wanting me to balance it out with negativity."

David: "You know, I feel like that dynamic's pretty popular with me."

David: "One day we'll be able to afford safety equipment. Until then, we'll just have to deal with Quartermaster's Ropes Course. And a lot of pillows."

There's point near the last 20 minutes where either it got kinda boring or I just got too tired to keep track. But if there are any quotes you think I missed, please share them! Kay, first off both of those people are Jarley shippers so take everything they say with a grain of salt and then some, cause no. that part isn't about how much Harley loves Joker and will always choose him over Ivy. Literally you can tell ops don't know what they're talking about cause her whole thing in those issues is going to kill him for years of graphic abuse but ultimately falls back with him once she’s face to face with him.

Like wow, congrats on missing the fucking point again but not surprised from people who ship her with The Fucking Joker.

also, ffs, can anyone please have basic comprehension skills and realize that Harley and Ivy are both fucked up sometimes because they’ve got issues and that’s not comparable to Joker’s long ass history of graphic and disgusting abuse.

Harley and Ivy are villains, they're not a wholesome cookie cutter, White Picket Fence, super vanilla ship with no bad moments. They're both bad guys with a fuck ton of trauma that they both have to work through, and have done so at this point.

Gotham City Sirens was published between 2009 - 2011, Harley and Ivy weren't blatantly romantic at this point nor had they had anywhere near the development that they’ve had at this point.

Like don’t go into Harlivy content expecting them to be the perfect wlw rep with no flaws during their arcs from BTAS to current time cause that’s just not realistic. They’re both deeply flawed people who’ve got a fuck ton of trauma that they need to (and have) worked through.

I have talked about the BTAS issues here and this post is good at explaining them too.

Harlivy is not and has never been a purely wholesome, goody-goody ship. They’re messy, they have issues, and they have bad moments sometimes, but they both worked through their seperate trauma and came out stronger and better because at the end of the day, they care about each other.

Harlivy has messy, toxic moments sometimes, but they’re not, and have never been, abusive. There’s a difference between unhealthy moments and a ship being abusive.

That’s completely different to how Joker acts Constantly, because he does not care that his actions towards Harley are abusive, because he doesn’t give a shit about her.

He enjoys hurting her. He enjoys ruining her.

Jarley has always been intended to be written and shown as a domestically abusive relationship.

This is also the first instance where it's directly referenced that there's something more than platonic between her and Ivy, other than the reference in Batgirl Adventures.

Gotham City Sirens is also not connected to any verses.

This didn’t happen in the timeline we’re in rn with Harley Quinn (2014)/(2016)/(2021).

So, Harley's entire thing at this point in the GCS comic in that she's been triggered by flashbacks of Joker's abuse and she breaks into Arkham with the intent to kill him.

The entire thing in these issues is showing her smarts and how she knows people's trump cards to get under their skin so she can break into Arkham.

She’s trained to identify these things in people and she's fucking good at pushing people's buttons.

this is also just one of my fav Harley covers so I wanted to show it jsdjksdks

“Trump cards. Everyone has one. Places where the armor we build around ourselves is weakest.”

She’s right. And it’s now shown that Harley’s willing to use those below the belt trump cards if she has to.

And frankly, I’d say this is worse than what she says to Ivy. And I’m not surprised she did it. She didn’t want to, she tried to get him to just open the door -

“Don’t make me do this, Aaron. There are some secrets that should stay hidden. Things you should never learn about your own life.”

but she’s also entirely fueled by rage and the desire to kill Joker. She came here for a reason and she’s not leaving until she’s done it.

“I’m going to kill you. For everything you’ve done to me. All the times you’ve made me feel useless and small. For all the times I will never forget. For all the things I can never forgive. All the memories -”

“Hello, Harley. I’ve missed you.”

“Memories. That’s all I have left. The past is gone and all I have is... memories.

Memories.

Memory.

Gone.

I guess I too have a trump card.”

“Oh, Ivy. You know exactly what my answer is going to be. But you’re hoping you’re wrong, aren’t you?”

She’s also right about this, they already mentioned this in #18.

“How did I become the bad guy?”

“You’re the one choosing a man over her girls.”

“Are you kidding me? You would never say that to Harley, and we both know she’d dumb us in a flat second if Joker called her.”

“Hey! That’s not fair-- Actually, that’s probably true.”

“The difference is, she can’t help it. You can. And she’s working on it. You’re not working on it.”

“Too easy, Ivy. Too easy. I know your weak spots. Now I just need to push.”

This is exactly what she’s been doing since the starting point of this post. She’s still in that mindset and she knows she can’t beat her on a regular battle field. Neither of them can.

“Like I said-- You beat me in any level playing field. But I don’t fight on those fields.”

Harley’s biggest strength as a villain is her ability to completely mentally stall her opponents and learn their weak spots. She wouldn’t win against the majority of the Big Bads if she didn’t fight on a different field than they are.

so, like yeah, out of context what she says to Ivy seems awful and completely screwed up, and it is, but it’s also built up really well and it’s completely in character for her at this point in her fall during these issues.

Is what she did fucked? absolutely. It’s not painted that it’s not.

Ivy Literally Goes To Kill Her For It.

In the end of this all three of them are recaptured by Catwoman and Batman and that’s where we’re starting off at again.

“Oh, Harley.

The only human I’ve ever called a friend.

To what lengths will I go? Where are my own limits? She is the Strangler fig. And I am the tree, choking underneath.

Without me, she could never grow.

But without her, I would fall if I grew too tall.”

“Will she ever stand by herself?

Will she ever be ready?

She is in throes of madness. She sees him, her brain flooding with adrenaline, it makes her excited, nervous, then the feelings start to fade, and she needs more. And more.

She sees it as passion. She sees it as love.

But it’s not. It’s addiction. And she’s relapsing.”

Ivy is well aware of the nature of their relationship. She’s not stupid and she’s been shown already to know that it’s something that takes time. It’s not a one off break up and it’s over. That’s not how abusve relationships work.

What do I do?

I could use my pheromones to alter her brain chemistry.

I could leave her behind abandoning her to the wilds of her own mind.

I could kill her right now.

Show her how red Nature can be.

There's one other option.

It would require patience.

Even love.

Maybe I'm more human than I want to admit.

"You have one chance to answer this."

I know, if she agrees, she'll be doing it for revenge. For him.

"She put us behind bars."

But maybe if I get away from this place, if I give her something else to think about. Maybe she can break the cycle. But it has to be her choice.

"I'm going to kill her. Come with me."

So yeah, it’s definitely not a just “Harley hurts her and runs off with Joker and it’s just a plain ol’ her choosing him over everyone and that’s that.”

Jarley shippers love to just reduce all her scenes and arcs down to their “epic love” and shit, but that’s taking away literally everything about her and reducing it down to the 3 panels that they’re “cute” in. Her arc in this part is fucking heartbreaking to read.

And Ivy damn well knows what’s going on with her. She’s smart and she’s the one that’s been there throughout all of this. She found her in the park after he shot her out of a rocket.

And she knows it’ll take time for Harley to get over and through his manipulation, that’s just how it works with abusive relationships.

But she’s also not forgiving at first, she’s mad and rightfully so, until she sees the sate of Harley’s cell and realizes how bad her addiction is at that time.

A lot of the unhealthy moments on Harley’s side when it comes to them are directly caused from the effects of being in an abusive relationship with Joker. Because she’s always in this area of her journey in those moments. She’s never fully over him or emancipated.

And that’s realistic. It’s hard sometimes to be friends with someone who’s in abusive relationships like theirs, having to watch them return to that person time and time again and it’s frustrating after a while.

I know from personal experience, it’s really hard to watch someone you care about go back or forgive someone that continues to hurt them.

But abuse victims desperately need a support system outside of their abuser. It’s a crucial part of being able to escape, because when they do try to get out they need someone there or they’ll literally have no where to go but back into their abuser’s arms.

It’s heartbreaking and it’s really rough for everyone effected, but that’s just how it is most of the time. Especially in their case, as they’re not just regular folk dealing with this.

If she doesn’t have Ivy, Harley has no one else to go to but Joker, on more than just an emotional level.

She’s lost her job. Her income. Her home. Her livelihood. Her everything.

Most of the time she has no other choice but to return to a life of crime after she’s released from Arkham because she can’t get a job, she’s a notorious criminal and she’s got a lot of issues that don’t just disappear with a bit of therapy.

She has no other choice but to return to Joker because the other alternative is the streets. At least she knows what to expect with him.

And that’s not even getting into the manipulation, gaslighting and degrading abuse that he drills into her constantly.

He’s made her believe she’s not anything without him. That she’s not smart or useful or anything.

And that’s why it’s so damn important for her to have a support system and why he’s so damn against Ivy.

Because Ivy is the good voice on her shoulder telling her he’s wrong and that she doesn’t deserve that.

And on Ivy’s side, she’s aware she gets very near cutting off all parts of her humanity.

She’s a plant goddess, she’s insanely powerful and she feels everything through the green. Frankly, she’s not even on the same playing field as these villains. She’s significanty more powerful than Harley and Joker.

Her connection to Harley is what keeps her humanity in tack, because despite everything, she does care about her. She was the first person she let in, the first person Ivy called a friend.

The person that was able to get through to her in #14/#15 when she was losing herself. The one that was able to get through to her that the dude was manipulating her.

And Ivy is understandable turned off towards humans considering her origin and trauma around that.

She’s got a lot of trust issues.

But both of them work through their seperate traumas over the years because their affection for each other is stronger than the issues their trauma has given them.

and also, sometimes, they just have shit writers. that’s an issue overall in comic fandoms. Some writers just fucking suck at getting any of the characters right, let alone LGBT characters, who’re notoriously treated like garbage by DC.

Gives me big Blood/Hope vibes. Blood because a lot of the conflict of the dream smp connected to someone breaking his trust or harming the things he cares about, Hope because a lot of the plot of the dream smp stems from Tommy starting shit based on his ideals and what he thinks is right.

bbh contacts him once and tommy keeps cursing until he disconnects from frustration rip

wields Gunkind and his only strife weapon at the beginning is the Vlog gun. He has Gunkind as his strife specibus mainly because he looked up at schlatt and he imitates him.

no i haven’t done their sprites yet bc it would take so much time and i’m not even sure if people wanna see more of this au skjdkdsakdfkl,, but i have Design Ideas.

events of the dsmp revolution are just a FLARP session drawing parallels to how the homestuck trolls had a FLARP session that spoiler alert: destroyed friendships. dtrio, eret, will are involved. eret betrays will's faction and wilbur's still Bitter over that.

on the context of alternia (highbloods and lowbloods) lmanburg and dreamsmp have their roles SWAPPED. the emancipation theme thing is completely gone since highbloods are in more power than the lowbloods (the dream team) .

wilbur made a faction called l’manburg because he wants a place where he and his fellow highbloods could make drugs vibe.they take a piece of land that was owned by the dream team. in normal circumstances, they shouldve stood down because lowbloods aren't supposed to start shit with highbloods (especially a group of highbloods that has the alternian heir among them) but dream turned it into an activism thing about lowblood rights. the story plays as close as possible without tommy or tubbo in it (which is pretty hard ik but this is the best can do).

like in the dreamsmp revolution, dream kinda let wilbur do what he wants but this time he has more reason to because he’s in a lower caste. dream really only fought back when wilbur announced that he’d be building lmanburg on their land and calling it theirs.

eret betrays wilbur by supporting the lowbloods and wilbur and co. technically won but only because he finally called the drones in, as a reference to how lmanburg absolutely got crushed by the dream team in the smp but technically won. l’manburg keeps the piece of land and the dream team scatter away to find a new home.

wilbur soot's a fuschia because a) he's in a position that has a lot of power, b) yknow how he wrote a song about squids and his thing with sally… yeah.

eret's a violet because nobility!! dream looks down on him because he's ambivalent on fighting for lowblood rights when he's in a power to do so "you just sit there, and you look pretty that's it"

also like eridan he has a minor aesthetic mutation (herobrine eyes) that won't classify him as a mutant.

jschlatt is purple because it makes sense thematically because of the gamzee parallels (a. substance abuse b. if you know what happens in act 6, you know this already but spoiler alert, he ruins the main protagonists' lives) also he's a funnyman he deserves the clown caste

quackity's a teal because he’s a law student. moving on--

ok but for real it also makes sense thematically because he's the one who wrote the thing that tricked schlatt into agreeing also he gets manipulated by schlatt which also draws parallels to certain events in the comic

skeppy and bbh are BEST FRIENDS despite being highblood and lowblood respectively. initially, skeppy just wanted to bother bbh but they grew to be good friends in time. y’know like how they actually becane friends :D

philza minecraft is a jade because dad friend. also works thematically, because spoiler alert he gets to murder a seadweller for going batshit crazy.

he also god tiers early. he dies fighting his quick undead denizen (haha baby zombie) but the consorts of his land carry him to his quest bed because he’s treated them all so well.

dream was initially going to be another caste but then i realized that means i have to make his hoodie something other than green which is unacceptable so its a good thing the fact that he's a lime works out

dream was the one who thought of playing sgrub in the first place- initially only planned to have gogy, sap, and bbh in the session but then realized that they four won't be enough so he invited more into his session

he’s also the first to go godtier ez clap blind speedrun not sure what classpect tho

the only reason why dream avoided being culled at birth for being a limeblood is because his rng is That Good. he quickly picked up the fact that he’s not supposed to exist and masqueraded as an oliveblood and kept mostly to himself to avoid suspicion.

george is still colorblind but he has lazer eyes along with it instead. dream lives with him in the same hive since being a mutant means dream doesn’t get a lusus of his own (dnf fans getcha juice “and they were roommates”)

despite living in the same hive, he never really figures out that dream is a limeblood. possibly because a) he’s colorblind and when he sees dream bleeding he just sees yellow b) he’s just that fucking oblivious and it’s so valid of him.

sapnap’s a bronzeblood mainly because i know he’s the instigator of the pet war with tommy also because i associate him with the color orang in my mind so bronze it is

that’s the end of this long-ass post!! if you have other ideas PLEASE i want to hear them. i don’t know the other streamers i mentioned in here very well so if you have ideas that would be fitting to them like with classpect or lunar sway that would be GREAT.

the only thing i’m confident about in here are the kids’ lunar sways. i’m not an expert in classpects and homestuck lore so there’s that too!! i just wanted to make this post because adhd means that the idea wouldn’t shut up until i finished it. This initially started as a single shitpost edit of tommyinnit talksprite but then the hiveswap 2 trailer came out and that means i have to combine my two hyperfixations.

also i have ideas about potential quadrants but idk how much of that is breaking some streamers’ boundaries about shipping (even the non romantic quads such as kismesistude, morallegiance and auspisticism) so i decided not to include it.

Harry Potter Hogwarts Legacy Appreciation Week - Day 2: Your MC Relationships

Hello everyone! I’m back with another entry for @endlessly-cursed’s fantastic event where we show our love for everything HPHL! Right now I don’t have any established romantic ships for Danny. He used to have one but unfortunately it had to be cut due to changes made to his former partner OC by their author. However this day is not just for romance, platonic ships are just as valid! I’ll use this entry to take a moment to explain Danny’s beautiful and wholesome friendship with my friend @beloved-bucky’s amazing Roxie Haley! I hope you don’t mind me writing this about them! I love working on their friendship and they have special rent free space in my heart^^

Only sweet and heartwarming though come from Danny and Roxie’s friendship. Their bond emerged from both being in Ravenclaw house and the fact that they were both foreigners who had to learn to adapt to a new home: England. Danny was an American who escaped with his mum from a dysfunctional and abusive family situation in West Virginia. Roxie was born near Adelaide, South Australia. Most importantly what made their friendship blossom was their wonderful chemistry. Both Danny and Roxie wished to have siblings they never had; she wanted a brother and he wanted a sister. As best friends they were like siblings and were very dear to each other. If Danny was feeling anxious about an exam or worried about his brother, he would have Roxie to turn to for someone to vent to and understand his feelings. Knowing how important it was to give back to return the love shown to him, Danny often returned the favor to show how much he cared about their friendship. They were study partners and even formed their own little book club at school.

Danny and Roxie remained close to each other during their years studying magic at Hogwarts and both went on to train as aurors after graduation. Her life would be forever changed though as she ended up being be bitten by a vampire she was pursuing while working a case. After this incident she was subject to a short-term absence. Eventually Roxie went back to work in the Auror Office but she was acting different. Fearing that now being a vampire that people around her would see her as a monster, she often locked herself in her office. Danny was there to make sure she was comfortable as she got used to her new condition. He reassured her there were still people who would always care for her, vampire or not. Being best friends with her he was one of the few people who was allowed to know her secret. Danny was highly trusted and allowed to use Alohomora to let himself into her office to check on her and get pillows and blankets if she needed to rest.

This experience would only strengthen Danny and Roxie’s bond as they would go on many missions together as partners. Having her in his life is something that he is more than grateful for and she feels the same way. They visit each others’ families a lot, with Danny’s mum being like a second mother to Roxie. When Roxie gets married to Gabriel Sapieha @slytherindisaster, Danny is very happy for her to have someone in her life who can return her romantic feelings regardless of her vampirism. Roxie has always been an important member of Danny’s found family of Hogwarts friends and the hardships they endured is a hallmark of how inseparable they are.

The way that one anon pointed out how being abusive was intrinsic to Claude's nature in reference to your vampire fic was really very wholesome.💖

Like in the manhwa (Don't worry there are no spoilers) folks like to think of claude's character, based on his memories of diana, as some real prince charming/husband material or if not that then he loved her so much/she was such a goddess that only she was able to unlock/experience his TRUE CARING AND LOVING NATURE. And this led to the popular opinion that it was TOTALLY diana's death that made him violent or abusive. That that is what triggered the ruby palace massacre, that he is the way he is with athy and Felix because he is mourning his beloved's death or "has become" abusive because her death has left him miserable or embittered. And that under normal circumstances he is the epitome of a loving, caring and sensitive person/ nothing near to the "monster HER DEATH MADE OF HIM"

My point is that readers blame claude's abusive and violent behavior on diana's death or abandonment.

People treat his abusiveness as some temporary attachment to his character profile when THAT is what he truly is.

Nobody's death ever made anyone abusive. It's true that people can lash out and act coldly or be bitter after suffering such loss.

But loss seldom taught anyone abuse. Abuse begets abuse.

And your reply to that anon and the vampire fic which I read afterwards (thanks to the ensuing curiosity) is a breath of fresh air🌸🌸. It restored my faith in the existence of logic.

To top it off the dynamics bw the two characters of your fic make me understand the manhwa claudiana's dynamics better. Right now I'm convinced that claude in the manhwa was just as abusive and intimidating before and during his stay with diana. I'm somehow sure with the fact that diana too had to walk on eggshells for this dude as athy did, make compromises and struggle to keep him in line at every turn of their relationship. And that the relationship was far far faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar from healthy. Your fic's characterization was pure fucking genius. Keep up the good work👍.

Loss isn't the catalyst for abuse, it only fuels what was already there, and (ahhh I'm so glad that it restored your faith, I only put my answer as what I believed, and am so happy it aligned with what a logical person would think!!! Because it should be so!!!) abusive behavior only gets aggravated by the person who picks out their triggers.

Meaning, it's up to the abuser themself to realize they are the problem not the person/people they abuse, that the abuser's victims aren't the ones who have to change or put up with them so they don't get hurt, but the abuser who has to make real effort to make a change in their actions.

I totally think that Claudiana's dynamic wasn't all that fairy-tale like, cause tbh I don't like it when ships are between low rank x high rank, like a commoner maid and a noble or a baron's daughter and an emperor, or vice versa with a butler and a noble daughter, they're all set up for failure from the beginning because of how the power dynamic is already bad between them. So Claudiana's commoner dancer x royalty was clearly not going to be all that sweet with the political game and concubine nonsense...

(Like please, keep it realistic, most marry for money and power not love. If you're dirt poor and you marry a rich person, chances are if they were poor you wouldn't have married them. And the surroundings as well as the personal relations will probably suffer because of it...)

Anyways back to the fic, thank you sososo much for liking the characterization of the two's interactions, and for the compliment!!! I will definitely try to keep it up ehehe! <333

Hello everyone! So... there was this poll in YouTube asking what people thought about Bakudeku and there where five options: wholesome, toxic, confusing, abusive, other. As always, there was some discussions going on down in the comments. And for the first time I choose to participate and give my sincere opinion on the matter. Sorry for the long rant.

I’m a bakudeku shipper and I think their relationship was unhealthy at the beginning of the story.

Bakugou was an asshole and did/said a lot of things that were undeniably wrong. However, the main reason why I like the ship is because of the amount of growth and development both Bakugou and Midoriya have had through out the story and how it affects their relationship. Bakugou bullied him and told him to jump off a roof. That’s awful, yes. I am not defending him for that nor making excuses for him. He also, though,

took a deadly blow to the abdomen for Deku, charges into battle with him in order to protect him and OFA, help him improve his skills and expressed his concern for Deku’s wellbeing.

Midoriya, on the other hand, has always shown some sort of appreciation for Bakugou and has also express genuine concern not only over his physical health but his mental health as well. It’s clear that Midoriya trusts him (with his secrets and his life too), not just because they knew each other before U.A. but because he sincerely believes in his capabilities to be a good hero and is highly aware of how much Bakugou has changed for the better.

I know that there is still a long road ahead of them in order to become proper friends (Bakugou still has to apologize for his past actions and his atonement is yet to be fully acknowledged by Midoriya) but they are getting there, and as the audience I don’t think we should completely disregard Bakugou’s remorse and efforts to fix things with Deku or Midoriya’s honest opinions on Kacchan now that they have matured despite the way they both started (which yes, was indeed pretty bad, I’m not trying to downplay it. But that fact alone shows just how much they have improved. Bakugou sacrificed himself for Deku, for crying out loud!)

Their relationship feels like one of the focal points in the story and honestly, I would love to see them become a hero duo in the future, at then of the story.

I personally find their relationship quite complex and interesting considering how they started and how they are right now and I love many of their dynamics and interactions. I know that’s not the case for A LOT of people and that’s totally fine as well. I see why there’s people who don’t think so highly of Bakugou or just don’t like them as a pair and it’s understandable.

The only thing that really rubs me the wrong way is how many people in the fandom throw around some pretty heavy insults and accusations, trying to tear each other down over the ships and the story line and the whole Endevour thing is just another Can of worms that, when opened, makes everyone go ballistic. This type of people just make the fandom a difficult and uncomfortable place to be in all together and I really don’t like it, cause MHA is such a good story and having all this people acting so aggressively and harsh and downright obsessive at times... I don’t know, it just feels wrong to me and somehow disrespectful to all the effort Hiroshiki puts into his work.

These confrontations between fans have seriously gotten out of hand and I think we should all try our best to respect each other and debate in a civilized manner while enjoying the story and it’s characters, without bashing on others opinions or likes. I think we can do much better and stop giving people even more reasons to call us “the most toxic fandom”.
