PSA ON HOW TO WRITE A GOOD TITLE

KEEP IT FUCKING SHORT

you shouldn’t summarize your story with a title. the title is supposed to be eye catching and help the reader gravitate to your story. It should also be easy to say so that people can recommend it to others. I personaly follow this rule, but it’s important to note that it can be broken as long as it follows rule number two.

2. Don’t describe your entire story with your title.

You wanna save the juicy bits for inside the story. Most people aren’t going to want to read a story with a super descriptive title because you basically just gave away your whole story. For example, One of the stories i’m working on is called The Wishing Star. The title alone tells you that an important object is a star that grants wishes. You wouldn’t know that it’s based off of japanese mythology at first glance. Titles are meant to draw you in. don’t bore your readers.

3: don’t ask a question in your title. especially if it’s not going to be answered at the end.

-Examples of good titles-

My Hero Academia: Short, three words, tells you that it’s about a hero school and nothing more.

Assasination Classroom: short, two words, tells you that it’s about a classroom full of asassins.

Spider man: across the spider verse: While it breaks the first rule, it follows the second and most important one. It doesn’t overshare about your story.

Bad title examples:

The Otherworldly Demon King and the Summoner Girls' Slave Magic: Too long, gives away all of your characters.

"The Fruit of Evolution: Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made": Long, overly descriptive, not really interesting

“is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon?”: Wordy, gives away your story.
